"So the Democratic Party does not make it easy for for us to get again that night at at ten black guy. To get involved and I think Jason had exactly the right point when you're when I'm. You know I knew this. Elliott sell fired up he free. Back. into. How I actually go back to you for a second 'cause, they only did make a good point about what what Lebron James is doing and how he isn't really included at all in the Democratic National Convention. And I think there is an interesting intersection between sports and activism. We've gone from Republicans by shoes to know we are fed up and we're going to be active voices here. What are your fellow athletes in the NFL? The NBA What does political activism look like and your crew? Were non-existent. We don't we don't participate. We don't talk about it. So the last couple of months reason why I'm so passionate about learning. And being transparent and honest there as because I've seen professional athletes that grew up with that I play with share the same locker room with. Come. Out and say. I don't know how to vote I. Don't know how to register. There was actually there was a big group chat with the University of Miami, all their star players that ever came through there and you have legends hall of fame players saying, well, what happens when I get to the ballot box and I think that's what we need to start. We need to educate people like myself on that process like I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was one was one white family and the in our neighborhood. From the Poorest County and all of Pennsylvania we didn't. We weren't talking about voting we were just trying to survive. Like Utah Charlestown me about voting under trying to get a some food in my stomach. For my demographic and people like myself, we need to educate ourselves because the power is in a ballot box. But when you start talking about Electoral College does my vote matter that's when you lose us. So I I love what you guys are doing. You know we just need more access to that and I think it starts with the Lebron James I. Think it starts with me. Think. Starts Colin. Kaepernick saying. Hey guys not only vote but here's a book to read our. Here's a here's a show to watch right like we need you on the show all the time doing exactly what you're doing, but we need to support you. We need to have your back and we need to have Lebron is show we need to have calling on his show and that's what's going to get the job done for my demographic. Well, Lebron wants to come talk to me I a wide open to that conversation. Thank you. Every everyone loves you. Of course he's GonNa come on. You for that Plug Brandon. I appreciate that Brandon is going to be back with me later because you brought up something that we're talking about but I just wanted to say quickly that I, totally hear what you're saying. We're asking men to believe in a system that has harmed them and we need to tell people we're not asking you to believe in the system we're asking you to believe in you brothers stay strong and thank you for that note. You Steve Phillips, Elliott, style and my friend you know have to give you a hard time, Jason David Johnson you brought it home for next steps millions of Americans great by while Mitch, McConnell and his veil of POWs slowly creep off on vacation don't go anywhere. We're going to get an all that next. You'll see all walks of life in here. People that never thought that they would ever be being foodbank line. You'll see professional people that had their jobs for twenty years that have lost it now and or having to ask for help I message to Washington DC is stop bickering with each other. Meanwhile people are starving people did not get. That money on Friday got two hundred forty dollars from Arizona. What is that GONNA. Do for anybody. On, Thursday the Senate left Capitol Hill for recess until September, which means Americans will see no corona virus relief package for several more weeks at least the Senate went on vacation while millions of Americans are out of work facing eviction and unsure of where their next meal will come from. It's the reality that's already overwhelmed foodbanks in cities across the country and the Senate just made clear that no help is on the way. Joining me now to talk about this and more mayor Jerry demings of Orange County Florida and Joel Burg CEO at Hunger Free America and the author of America we need to talk. I'm so grateful that you guys are joining me for this. So thank you both for being here. I I really wanted to have conversation because I know what it's like to not know where your next check of coming from. I, know what it's like to be worried about how you're gonNA pay your rent or your mortgage, and sometimes when you watch the conversation, that's you know Speaker Pelosi said this. And Schumer, said, this and McConnell said this none of that matters when you're hungry none of that matters when you can't pay your rent and you don't know how to feed your children. So I really wanted to have a conversation that bridge the politics with the humanity of the saw because it's really is a tragedy were saying I'm going to start with you mayor demings because you have been out front. On addiction moratoriums tell us what it is that you're doing in your area to stop people from being homeless. I let me say good morning to you tiffany. I'm concerned about where we are at this point of Florida is through most late state now within the union behind California and Texas, and my county Orange County. Is in central Florida in Orlando was the county seat. We have about one point, four, million people in the county and fat to the Cobra virus a we had about one, hundred and ten thousand. Households that were chronically stressed, and so all of that has now been exacerbated by this pandemic, and so what we wanted to do with an Orange County was to avert a calamity of issues occurring with individuals being evicted the governor here within the state of Florida, has suspended evictions and foreclosures of for several months about at the beginning of this mom He changed a modified the executive order that was put in place, and now evictions can move forward with exceptional bills representing individuals who have been impacted by the virus itself, and so we have a program here within Orange County..

"For hanging out with us. This is the all new sports map Radio network. My name is Bill Schmidt Appreciate everybody being a part of it today. News off the day Alvin Gentry. Dismissed fired. After five seasons at the helm of the New Orleans pelicans. You could have seen this coming. When Alvin Gentry. Gave his answer after Game one in the bubble as to why Zion Williamson did not play more than 15 minutes. The team was down or was up. I want to say, like 15 on the Jazz that night, first night in the bubble Member Zion had gone home. For a family emergency. He arrived in the bubble like the day before the game, and they're like, Oh, no. Yeah, he's on a minute's restriction is Ana riel minutes restriction cause they didn't let him play any more than 15 minutes. And Alvin Gentry was none too pleased after the game. Said. You're going to have to ask the medical people about that. I wasn't my decision. I mean, that's the kiss of death. You start. You throw anybody on the medical team under the bus say anything bad about the decision. It's probably going to be curtains. A lot of teams aren't gonna mess around with you. Saying anything bad about the people making the decisions medically. And Alvin Gentry's been in the game long enough. He e knew what he was doing. He knew that wasn't gonna end well for him. And it didn't as now he is no longer the coach of the New Orleans pelicans. I got a couple of Ideas as to where they go. But if there's another job in the league That makes sense for Jason Kidd to get To me, it would be New Orleans pelicans. A guy that has Ah, long history developing young talent. Allowing them to kind of grow. Their style of play as well as No. The point guard. Lonzo Ball reminds me of Jason Kidd. By having that's the clearest cop you could probably get. People here in Milwaukee thought that The camp was going to be Michael Carter Williams. And when was the last time you heard that name? Former rookie of the year. Fox traded for him because Jason Kidd said I could make that guy the next great Now he didn't actually may be honest, The next great had something to do with it. And I think that's why he's going to get another job in this league. I think he If how people always Believe that LeBron James makes every personnel decision. LeBron James runs the Lakers. He obviously didn't make that decision. Jason Kidd was the guy that he wanted to be the head coach. And instead, it was Frank Vogel. Huh? Really? Lionel Hollins here. We got Jason kid, and we got Frank Vogel here. A brown. Which one would you say? I mean, I'd say Jason Kidd, Hall of Famer. One of the biggest reasons why Yannis developed the way he did. Yeah, I go. I go, kid. Yes. So we're going to give it up, Frank? Because we really like the way he had Roy Hibbert play post defense on you. And you beat him when you were with Cabs. All right. Whatever we'll get rid of him soon. Like that. That's where my head was that when Jason Kid didn't get the Laker job, I thought that one was clear cut. Couple. Other possibilities, I think would make some sense. What about Mike D'Antoni? Is Mike D'Antoni gonna have another year in Houston? If God forbid the Rockets don't get past the Oklahoma City thunder in the first round. He's for sure going at that point The kind of talent on that Rockets team. I'm not sure that Dan Tony's there They don't make it to the Western Conference finals. The clock's ticking on that decision, so you could have Another old veteran guy, come in there and take over. You know David Griffin running that organization. I just think it's hi, Lou. Very comfortable with him. Knows what he could do when they were in Cleveland together. I think that one kind of makes some sense. But unlike in, you know, football. Baseball is just a complete wildcard. Who's going to be the next up and coming manager because it's just whoever the front office likes. In basketball. You kind of don't see The turnover of young guys getting the opportunity right? Like the offensive coordinators that you know we're going to be the next head coach in Canada. When Sean McVeigh was going to get the head coaching job with the rands. You knew he was going to be the hot name Kyle Shanahan. Same deal. Matt LaFleur, saying the luggages The list kind of goes on and on. John de Filipo was supposed to get one because he was the quarterbacks coach of Nick Foles. When they won the Super Bowl, so let's give him a head coaching job. And the N B. A. I kind of just seems like they keep going back to the same well, right. Tom Thibodeau just got the Knicks job, He said it was his dream job. Hey, good for you, dude, but it had to be somebody's dream. And it wasn't James Dolan's. Well, maybe it is maybe James Don't James Dolan should just coach that team. Just like I thought..

You've got to get to that spot first. It's still too good. A team There's no I did not see LeBron James losing in the first round. Would hurt Brian or not hurt groin. There's not a chance in hell LeBron James loose in the first round of N BA playoffs. And if I got to eat those words later on, fine, So I wish you would have said if he if he were the best player in the bubble. I would have said Yes, I would have said straight shooting brother. "Getting back into the N B. A. Of course, you know, never shy away from that. From my end and help me do so I'm joined by Ben Steiner off the big lead N BA writer and reporter, also of the Court Vision podcast presented by N. B. A All Star Jameer Nelson and Ben Steiner himself, But I want to run something by you real quick. I was talking earlier about Damian Lillard and his performance. Not only that, it's It's great, but to me. One of the takeaways isn't about a Lillard, Steph debater or the Blazers versus the Lakers. Which is how absurdly skilled the players in the N B. A R Now where Daniel is a point guard. Back in the day, he'd be asked to distribute the basketball. Now he's putting up numbers that put him in the record books with Bill Chamberlain and pulling up from beyond halfcourt, something that you never had to deal with before, and Lillard isn't even in top five. Player conversations. Maybe he's working his way there, but he's not really there. It just shows me that that the players in the N B A or just more are better than they've ever been. First of all, Thanks for having me on and Damian Lillard. You are totally correct and the players in the end, they just keep getting better and better and better. You look down. You see, Damian Lillard was a four year college player, Weaver State. It would not ranked well out of high school and look at him. Now. Today, there's just so many good basketball players about the right opportunity and right by culture and franchises. And think about Damien Lord. It's just I watched that whole next Trailblazers game. That was one of the best games I've seen in a long time I meet after that game N BA bubble basketball is from the best basketball ever. I mean, they are playing really good basketball. That's nothing to play for. And it came right down to the wire cares. Lover could have sent the Blazers home. But Daniel words put a show on bladers got a good chance to make the playoffs. You know? Why do you think that is? You know, I've said. I've said before that it started. I thought that the basketball was going to be a high level because one though the focus is going to be there. I mean, guys are there. That's what they're there for. Right? Ah, there's no travel. You know you're sleeping in the same bed every night. It's hard to have too many distractions. You know inside that that environment There was time off. People are healthy. There's no fans. So so none of that factors in and I've also heard from players that the line of sites are better. As a result, you just think it's a mixture of all those things. Yeah, I think players one place near me like they play for an extended period of time. You've got 18 right now or still not playing, And then they'd love to play. It seems like all my cover closely, You know, they don't want to play their coach wants in the play. So these 22 teams that went down there they were thankful for the opportunity. We're going Phoenix so I mean, everyone said, Why are they even invited? They went eight No, and had a good chance of Paris over hit that shot to be in the playoffs. I think it was just a mixture of Yeah, There's there's no fans every focuses on the in basketball. But also I think just being grateful to play and we didn't know if they're being embassies and three months ago, think back to April. Who knows what that was gonna happen, and they're all grateful in and really giving the fans to be thankful for as well. No doubt Now, when it comes to these playing games, or I guess it's a play in game. If the Blazers wind seems like everybody's acting like it's a foregone conclusion that the Blazers are going toe in a move past the Grizzlies. You give the Grizzlies any shot to win these two games. I think it's funny like when everyone thinks a team and energy something especially from a gambling perspective, like well doesn't happen. What I really do think the Blazers will win. Who knows by how much you were speaking about that, But I think the lady will win the find a way to win, just like they did next. I mean, they were 10.5 point favorites for the next. They one by one. So you're getting in the gambling side of things. I think that the Grizzlies could be a great place today. But guess what? I think that we were gonna end up winning in terms of just who's going to win the ballgame team you love is not going to let The young John Moran greedily feed it. I don't care how what it comes down to. If they're down by 10 before quarter, the blade will win today. Robin Lundberg talking to Ben Steiner, MBA writer and reporter for the Big Lead. Court Vision podcast. Presented by N. B. A All Star Jameer Nelson and Ben Steiner here on CBS Sports Radio. It's the Robin Lundberg Show Now when it comes to the Blazers if they do, win and move on. The question, then is how they match up with the Lakers and the Lakers might not have that natural guard to go up against Dame. But I think people are overselling Portland's chances against L a a little bit because you know, once they beat the Clippers, and once they clinch that number one seed they really were playing. For nothing we've seen with the Lakers were about this season. We've obviously seen what LeBron James is about in the playoffs year after year after year and having watched Portland they're definitely more dangerous than they were for the bulk of the season. They're healthier. They do resemble more. The Western Conference finals team from a couple of years ago, the subpar team for much of this season. However, I just don't see them defensively. Being able to compete with Ella and I don't know who guards LeBron James on that. Yeah. I don't think that the blades were gonna beat the lazy But I will say it could be a very interesting theory. It could go six. It could go. Seven. Now would be a little kind of lame, but it really could go six games. I think that's the biggest concern for me about the Lakers. Here's the Lakers. I agree. LeBron James is right now the best player in the world you can't you can't knock that what he has done average over 10 assists per game. Oh, and Newport, the Lakers and what they're doing is incredible. The planes are really good. Like you keep saying you're column no churches back. He was hope for so long. It's a big thing is How are they gonna go on LeBron? Like you said? How pleasant guarding the moon. It's like Avery Bradley. I mean, that was a big piece of their defense is missing. Rondo was late. So there's there's gonna be some parts for the Lakers that had been a struggle inaccurate to think, but I think they're going to come out on top. That being said they have a talk room in the finals. If it's broken the Blazers think about that, if their easiest mashable Trailblazers well, they're gonna be nicked an act along the way. Yeah, I think the one regal could be ill. The Siri's that that I was looking forward to the most is Houston in Oklahoma City. Thunder is kind of a bummer about Russell Westbrook because you know, I was thinking. The entire Rockets team could be facing a referendum in that Siri's harden obviously going up against Paul, who you might have feuded with a little bit. Westbrook hasn't been out of the first round since Katie left. Mike D'Antoni's On the last year of his contract. Mori traded for Paul, then traded assets, Tio Ship him away. Still, I'm interested to see what James Harden Dozen in that Siri's. What do you think is the most interesting first round series? I got kind of agreement. I want Pacers and heat as well. That's a good that's a really good theory in the Eastern Conference battle. I don't know who's gonna win that. I'll take the heat, but I'm saying I really don't know who's gonna win. That would be a battle. I was with you that the rockets and thunder That's a great shoot. Like you said so many story lines. It's annoying that Russell Westbrook won't get that chance. Hopefully healthy could come back at some point soon. But Chris Paul going up against James Holden after they basically said, you know, dumped all CP 30 K..

"Of these leaks kicks off like, actually the the ball is in the air, and somebody catches it and runs that's going to be a topic of conversation. And and I don't know if anything's final at this moment. And again, it's been politicized. It's it's Every it's ugly. College football situation is ugly and I love to hear From a variety of opinions. Because one of the things I love about doing this show is I get to hear from so many people I wouldn't otherwise get to talk to you and and your perspective is important to me. So please weigh in if you candidate 55 to 124227 Like I said last week. You know those topics? Aren't that fun, right? Like who's having fun? When we're talking about like things we like shutting down. Or or, you know, I'm even thing we like continuing, but I feel guilty about it. Or, you know, everybody yelling each other at each other about this thing that generally in the past was once you know. Something that people enjoyed together. You know, like an activity that people enjoyed together. Now that I know you're wrong, like it's wild. It's not funny, but you know, I laugh. T sort of process the whole thing. And last week I I made a concerted effort. To avoid covert related stuff because it's been so prominent In In sports and the world in our country, obviously That you can't not talk about. And people get inundated by like you hear the same stuff over and over again, and at some point it's like no, just give me a break. Let me let me get away from this for a minute, man, please. It's S so that's what I tried to do last week. I be professionally irresponsible if I wasn't talking about the college football situation this week, but Something that has been An escape for me. Has been the MBA. You know, and I I get it there with the MBA like there's some people. You know, I have that. Never mind. I'm leaving a drop it. I'm not going to bring that up. The NBA has been escape for me. And It's been super entertaining, I think personally am an MBA fan. So unlike what I was saying about college football where I said, I think I can be a pretty good, impartial arbiter there. Uh, I'm not impartial when it comes to the embassy. The NBA's my favorite league by favorite sport basketball, my favorite sport, But I also think objectively. It's been a success thus far and entertaining on the court, like it's hard to ignore. But the biggest story has been the play of Damian Lillard, who has been on one of those runs. Like, you know, a special kind of run. Not not like He's playing well and has the Blazers in the spotlight. Ah, the kind of thing you'll remember for a long time forever. Really, You know, this is the kind of thing that I won't forget 154 points in his last three games. And what Lillard has done has been something else and the Blazers play the Ah, the Grizzlies today. In a play in Game, and the playing thing is cool. I think they should bring it into the league permanently. You know a lot of times the end of the embassies in is a drag. There's just nothing to be played for. Thisa least increases the chance. There's something to be played for, and it's been the most entertaining thing. About the the bubble restart pre playoffs, right? What Dame is He's been doing stuff that Is just out of control. Good, silly. Philly. And you know, I've seen a lot of different reactions to it. One of them is how they would do against the Lakers. Man. I was just talking to Omar, who called in I don't think the Blazers could beat the Lakers. I don't think their defense is good enough. I think people are forgetting who they're talking about. When it comes the Lakers, you know, like LeBron James in the playoffs. Is has proven himself over and over and over and over and over again, so I think it's sort of silly that people are just jumping because they haven't seen the Lakers at their best yet. So the the idea that the places are going to beat them because they've seen the The Blazers win tight games against the Brooklyn Nets without Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving or or whatnot, So that's not the spin. I'm going with it they ever spin has been, um Damian Lillard, now being the best point guard. In the league and surpassing Steph Curry. And and I don't even want to go with that spin because that does feel, you know, look the way Damian Lewis plane is absurd, but I also want to pump the brakes on that Steph Curry did. You know, was the best player on a 73 win team Isa multiple time. Champion and M V P, and it was just a year ago. Literally last playoffs when Curry set the record for most points ever in a sweep, as the voyeurs beat the Blazers for games to zero, and that was without Kevin Durant. Um You know who it was hurt. At that time. So I don't wantto Use that spin either. Here's what I'll tell you. I really Took away from it. And this wasn't even after the logo shot. The logo shot only added to it was when did the logo shot having Thursday night, right? It was after Tuesday night's game. I was watching Tuesday night's game. And It's not even just Lillard and that thing that was the Mavericks. Game against the Blazers and You've got like Chris stops Poor Zynga's Taking these shots from 30 something feet away. You know Chris stops, forcing us who's 78 feet tall, basically eight feet tall. I believe he's eight feet tall when I see him out on the court. And he's shooting from 30 something feet away. And it's just like Man times have changed..

We chat more about how he first got started with icebox neoprene and also take a deeper dive into the science and also some of the best practices behind some of these recovery methods and devices. Hi Anthony I'm excited to have you on the show today. Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself to kick things off? Yeah. So my name's anthony cats on founder pipe price. I founded the company about ten years ago it started out really just as an arm project like I was before this I worked in education was a high school teacher I was married to professional. Athletes and I was still really active and I still play sports and was sort of looking for ways to improve my body and sort of slow the aging process and I started my by started kinda get more soar after do things and you kind of start to see like the wear and tear you know grown up in the in the Dark Ages fitness in the ninety S. People used to basically do bodybuilding it wasn't very functional and that control my body in in. So I start looking at like, what would it winter pro athletes doing? You know because obviously they put the biggest premium on. Their bodies and sort of the new kind of things if there was anything new that they were doing that I can adopt and when I did sort of the research on, it was funny like the word recovery didn't really even a quiet sports like that. We use it now and there's a category now but they're back then. You know recovery meant like alcohol recovery or something you know. It didn't mean the same and so the industry was really dominated by like sort of these like medical device companies that would make products that would live in athletic training room for in professional sports and mostly what guys were doing for like you know just. To recover faster faster was was ice was ice tubs. Getting, getting a cold tubs and then, and then they were icing their joints and then if you getting a massage in athletes paper massage and stuff, and that was kind of that was kind of what the recovery will look like in two, thousand ten and so I figured okay well, you know if you can't really market a cold tub but athletes are icing their joints every day and they were doing it with plastic bags and ace route or Fight in every single day. Yeah. It's really wasteful and just like you know it's just not really convenient leaks in you know Dallas is kind of what they were doing. So it Kinda struck me and around this time two, thousand ten. So beats by DRE was relatively new. You know they debuted at the two thousand, eight Olympics and the Osa basketball guys were wearing them kind of adopted this idea that you if someone wearing something right and you know if I could make something that was good enough for like pro athletes to wear that people would see it on them and because it's on their body because it would be like wearing potentially like wearing them, you know on the sidelines or Photos, in your starting, it was Kinda before instagram. So it wasn't really the access to like the behind the scenes of what these guys do is not really the same level of now because I feel now we have a much better window into what what sort of the athletes are famous people do in their you know when the camera's not on. This kind of struck me. If there was a documentary called the last dance about Michael Jordan and it was showing how different famous then where he was the most famous person in the world and he'd get off the team bus and they would just be like a thousand people waiting at the hotel just like watch him walk in the door and we don't need to do that anymore because now everyone has we see what people do in the cameras. And we have twitter, right? Yeah and so people and and then there's way more content right? So there's just way more content of like, okay. What is sort of what is an athlete? Do? They're not court in got used to be pretty mysterious people in an intriguing so I figured that if I could make an icing product because athletes have to is every day people see maybe what sort of kind of catch on A in obviously not a school would beat because it's music that's universal but I still felt like young athletes might adopt it. So I had the idea to make like a really cool looking is compression device, and so I started researching therapy. The. Compression was import element of it and I had. A friend of mine who's a college basketball coach was regularly working out with Kobe Bryant and in Kobe was known as the biggest like that. He he is more than anybody and there was articles well-documented about how he really took care of his body. So I thought if I could make a prototype and I could show it to him and maybe you know maybe get into weirder sort of my thinking and I showed it to them I. so I literally was cutting up wetsuits and going into like wetsuit factory's GonNa live in a beach community southern California. So like there's some of the old Lexi factories that are still around back then so I was kinda compression sleeves and then taking ice bags from like you know from like rite aid or whatever, and and and just kind of like putting them together these compression sleeves. Trying to make something and you know he was really receptive to the idea that there could be a product that would make more efficient and it would actually look not just be so wasteful. So I a couple times in he kind of gave me some really good criticism that was constructive and what I realized like this can't be an art project like this is not how businesses have to like if I'm. GonNa do what I gotta do it. Right. So I gotta go get like. So I was calling manufacturing companies and it was during the recession and people weren't really interested in talking about no experience at all and just sort of this but one company believed like, okay. I kind of had proved that I was like interacting with Koby in the disciplinary doing for him and they kind of just took a flyer on. Maybe we'll try helping sort of developed sort of come the extra separable and so took about a year I. Got I, finally convinced him to do it. We took about a year to kind of develop the product properly I had the idea to put an air release valve at is bag because when ice melts, it creates like air pocket in compression doesn't work because it blocks a compression. So if You have a button that releases the air. The compression always makes contact with the ice and then you get your eyes compression therapy and that's that's the whole idea behind it was that I would watch guys ice and then I would see these like there's a big air bubbles forum. It's like because the heat from your body is exchanging with the ice and then that creates natural gas, which is A. Form of like air and

LeBron: BLM is a lifestyle, not a movement

"The social justice conversation players. We're having conversations. Debates fought for the ability to make sure that they're returned to games and playing in this bubble did not distract from the larger conversation around racial inequality, Social justice police brutality. Happening in this nation. Now what has happened is you'll see players that have elected to can put messaging social justice messages on the back of their jerseys. They've got black lives matter on the court. Now one guy who elected not to use the message, he's going to keep his last name on his jersey. Is LeBron James. But he absolutely always steps up to use his platform to discuss social justice initiatives in the US Here's the latest, he had to say coming out of the bubble. I love the game of the NBA a lot. What we built Not only here in America, but all over the world, I think is the most precious, beautiful, impactful game in the world. But a lot of people kind of use this analogy. Some out black lives matters of movement. It's not a movement when you're black. It's not a movement. It's a lifestyle. We said, Here's there's a movement and okay How long is this movement going, Lads? Don't stop the movement. Oh, this is a walk of life when you wake up and you black you That is what it is, is not. It should be a movement. It should be a lifestyle. This is who we are, and we understand And we know that for one step that someone else might have to take or for one yard. Someone else may have to take We know we got to take five more steps. We know we got to take 10 more yards to get T end zone. I mean, we understand that we know that so but also what makes us Ah, I mean, a strong powerful makes it so unique. The Unified is that we have so much starships in our life either from personal experiences or loved ones or reading history or seeing videos. Rodney King, just being a part of just the communities that you and where you just raised the profile from the time you come out of the womb, So it's not a movement. I don't want to hear. I don't like the word movement. Unfortunately in America in society. Ain't been no damn movement for us. Maybe we'll end in this wood. Ah, just for Briana Taylor. We will continue to harp on it.

Boston Red Sox Incorporating Black Lives Matter Movement Into Opening Day Ceremonies

"The thunder in their first exhibition later today, But last night, LeBron James took center stage after the Lakers opener, the face of the N BA became the latest player to discuss Briana Taylor's tragic death in March demanded the Kentucky police who killed or be arrested, then spent the next several minutes talking about racism in America in his experience growing up black, a lot of people kind of use this analysis about black lives matter movement. It's not a movement you black is not a movement. It's a lifestyles, Way, said. There is a movement and okay, how long is moving on last? Don't stop. No, This is a walk of life. When you wake up, you black you That is what it is, James said. Facing uphill battles as a result of being black is also what makes the community strong, powerful, unique and unified. Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James Demands Justice for Breonna Taylor

"Will they lost an exhibition game last night in Orlando, But the postgame conversation was all about Social justice in the late Briana Taylor, LeBron James cut to the chase early in the postgame locker room. We want the cops arrested who committed that crime. Taylor died when undercover police in Louisville, Kentucky, stormed into the wrong residents in the middle of the night and began firing their weapons when Taylor's boyfriend thought burglars had broken into their home, and he fired his gun, which was legally licensed. James calling the Taylor case heartbreaking. I want her family to know and I want the state of Kentucky to no way feel forward and we want justice. You know, that's what it's all about was writers writing was wrong is wrong. And this is the wrong situation that's going on in my mind a lot of a lot of eyes not only here in America in the world, James telling reporters, You can never really truly understand what it is to be Black in America.

Zion Williamson Leaving NBA Bubble For Urgent Family Matter

Zion Williamson Leaving NBA Bubble For Urgent Family Matter

"We begin today with news that Zion. Williamson has left the NBA bubble. Bubble in Orlando to attend an urgent family medical matter. The New Orleans Pelicans Zion intends to rejoin the team at an unspecified later date. We'll bond your thoughts on Zion leaving and what this could mean in the bigger picture, well Tony Me. The first thing is I hope this urgent family. Medical matter turns in becomes not urgent, and whoever this is, and whatever it is is improved better. So, that's the first thought and my second thought is. This is what people as they get older as they move from Zion's twenty today in their twenties, and thirties and forties is what we do it all the time. This is what deal with and players and coaches, and this is what your life becomes as you get older sadly, but necessarily the difference of course is this pandemic? The difference you you you normally you leave, and these guys have enough wherewithal to fry fly privately. If they want and most times they do and they they come back. Back and they juggle their tension between what is going on with their family member and ball, and they still have to do that, but now it's only you have protocol that you have to answer to, and you could be gone anywhere from say four days to fourteen days depending on things like if you're tested every day while you're gone, so we. We don't know and let's face it. There's twenty two teams in the bubble and not sixteen largely because Zion is one of those six extra teams in the NBA wanted to see him in the postseason. No question about that there's there's no reason on earth for the Washington. Wizards and the Sacramento Kings and whole bunch of these teams to be in this round, Robin and playoff to get into the playoffs in his created right because Zion, Williamson, second only in my opinion to Bron James as a television draw, and they WANNA. See Him in the playoffs. I Echo your statements that we hope that this isn't something traumatic for the family that should go without saying but testing the. The protocol by understanding correctly is you need to test on your own every day? In order that? When you come back, you can spend only four days out instead of fourteen. That's asking a lot of anyone when they've left the bubble to be able to do that to me. The larger question is, do you make exceptions know and to me for people like Zion and Lebron James who try to make an exception, but where where there is contagion, you can't do of course. By the Way Zion has team. Okay, and his team can help in that regard. They may have to send somebody WHO's in charge of testing. They want him air. No, there's no exception is the is the is the virus make an exception? Is the virus go? Lebron is gone, then look a little bit too big and strong for. Let me let me go over here. No, they're not doing that, so there's no exceptions, but you hope one that that this urgent matter becomes less urgent, and to that Zairean could get back quickly. Administer this I mean. The the Pelicans come on David. Griffin is not some dope going to do what they can as a franchise who support him and make sure he has what he needs to transition back to the bubble.

"Win wanna get that record? Lebron James is chasing something greater than player of the month. Couldn't you argue though that we need both. None really. I mean, you don't wanna just unplug sometimes and watch tooth fairy. Never. Does need a light movie every once in a while while the light movies, a hangover's hysterically funny? I'm not saying I don't like comedies. There's never been a point in my life. I thought you know, what I want? I want to spend seventy bucks on popcorn tickets and watch tooth fairy revenue was the level of every movie I'd go to the movies more. The problem is half the movie stink. Now, I just stay home. And wait for vice to come out on you know, on at home, and I'll watch it my finger. We go to the movies a lot. But I mean, I think that you need balance and everything so you have the Russell westbrooks stats and then make it exciting during the regular season. And then you appreciate the guys like MJ and LeBron who win the championships in a different category. I just think everything can be the same and one one. It depends on what you're motivated. But I think in sports it's about winning. I agree with this you, and I have gone back and forth on this a lot. I prefer championships MJ. Even championships. It's not just you prefer team you prefer. We over me. Because sports is about a collaboration a community a unit you're building together a momentum. Right. I don't think basketball's better with Russell Westbrook shooting twenty eight times and shooting forty percent. I think the Westbrook now who's this tribute or still can't shoot Oklahoma city's better the games better. It's a better example. Like, I think Westbrook's game now is about winning and he still can't use his plus minus is the fourth best on his own team. Right. I think like even with will and Bill Russell when you use as examples when we look at Wilt Chamberlain. We talk about his career in a fun way. You know, he's still someone who contributed to the game. He still put up incredible numbers. You just put Bill different category winning category. Listen, I got I liked the rock. The raucous. James harden was I would watch him play like to your point. If harden was in town tonight. I go on. I just think that there needs. There's always a sports is entertainment. Right. There's always this'll be a balance and everything. But I don't really think that I think the NBA media tends to fall in love with the less relevant stuff and not pay attention to the more relevant stuff. There's too much fan. Boy. Yeah. We know. I don't think we do a show. I think our show is the wet blanket side, we try to balance things out. But of course, everyone gets excited and attracted to the new funding interesting thing, and that tends to be at the patriots in the warriors like winning gets boring. Because it's consistent. You know? I went yesterday. I got a physical physical yesterday. This is just a minute of wasted time. But I have to say about this. So I go to get a physical, and you know, it's just not that much fun. They're poking and prodding and stuff, and you know, whatever. And then I get my blood test at the end, and and so I just closed my fist, and I turn away. I don't mind giving blood give it three or four times a year. I don't wanna watch it. And I'm sitting there talking to lay blah, blah, blah. And then I turned over to the right is like six vials of blood over there. One of my vampire, what's happening to me. See guy you six vials. I'm exhausted today. I mean, not be able to do the third hour who gives orders that blood going? I don't I don't know. Where's all that blood going places in labs and make sure that you know, you're you're good comedy. How much do you need? I that's what I don't understand. Don't. They just use like one little draw draw on the input one drop in a slide. You literally no my levels of rival Flavin. You know, my I mean, you know, everything about me six vials a blind. Okay. This keep things in it's proper perspective. The broad James has to deliver a championship in the four years that he's going to. He's committed to the Los Angeles Lakers. There's no other way around it. We realized that any way we want to, there's no way around it. LeBron James has to win a championship. You size it anyway. You want the broad. James has to do that. It's so pivotal for LeBron James to win a championship as long as he's in LA. Because every more key major superstar who's ever won the purple and gold other than Elgin Baylor has won a championship. "Pay their superstars way less than the market value they wanna keep some of that money that otherwise paid a brown they want to keep that for themselves and in fact it's actually illegal under antitrust laws for owners of other businesses to collude about south salaries the way that owners of nba teams do but the nba like other sports leagues got itself exempted from these antitrust laws but it's not just colluding owners are the ones hosing lebron james his less talented teammates are hosing out of his money as well so remember these salary cap rules that came about as part of the collective bargaining agreement between the owners and the nba players union itself here is our other economists kevin greer will the union is is union votes on contracts by majority rule right so we would think if it's like majority rule that it would be the guy in the middle who would be the crucial voter right if you could line if you pick pick an in a thing like salary cap in line everybody up for who wants it the most versus who wants at least it would be the guy right in the middle of that distribution of players the medium player what are their interests and the answer is the medium player the non superstar they don't want all the money to go to lebron james either they want some of that money for themselves so when i think about this mike miller like one of lebron james teammates chances are even a casual fan knows about lebron james probably you've heard of lebron's superstar teammate dwayne wade but mike miller no one outside of a hardcore basketball fan really knows who mike miller is and he's a good player is an excellent shooter he plays pretty good defense but in a non salary cap world he probably wouldn't be making nearly six million dollars a year which is what he's making now in a non salary cap world teams would probably wanna pay lebron james a bit more and mike miller a bit less so perhaps an even bigger reason the ron james teammates really like this crazy system of the salary cap in the draft is that expands the total number of jobs and here might be instructed talk about my washington wizards do we have to unfortunately i think we did ok okay because it's possible that.

"The case for how a multimillionaire like the brown james is getting hosed and to do that let's imagine a job description then they might see a monster dot com or a newspaper wanted once in a generation nba superstar skills required must be able to soar through the air in order to execute thunderous dunks check lebron takeaway by him show must be a team player who works well in small groups of five who can facilitate performance by executing impossible seeming cross court passes to barely open teammates check must thrive under pressure preference given to tall strong and extremely agile candidates and ability to play suffocating lockdown defense as a plus check rondo drives all there's the fake but again economists victor matheson so by lots and lots of measures lebron james is the best player in the nba if you keep playing this pace that he has for the last ten years and has a link to career that is not interrupted by injuries he may go down as the best player in the history of the game all right so say you work at an imaginary human resources department lebron james resume with i gotta figure a highlight reel lands on your desk and you got to figure out how much do we pay this guy what is he worth how do you figure that out if only there was a way to determine just how much value he adds to a team like say this job candidate somewhere in his employment history saying he'd switched teams and you were able to compare the economic impact of that switch if only the answer to the question everybody wants to know lebron what your decision so to anyone with even a passing interest in sports you'll remember this it's win the brian james decided to leave his old team the cleaver cavaliers and go to his new team the miami heat and this form we'll take my towns to south beach and join the miami miami heat that was the conclusion woke up with this morning that was the conclusion i will go with his more this decision it was actually called legislation it was broadcast on prime time around the world this was huge sports news for everyone that cleveland cavaliers they felt betrayed fans there burned his jersey lebron james was reviled on sports talk radio for weeks and months and basically a whole year to come but that's not why we're talking about this moment no it's not no we're talking about it because it gives us a pretty clear picture of how valuable lebron james is when he left the cavaliers the value of the team that is how much it would have been worth if the team's owner had tried to sell the team exactly that value dropped by about twenty five percent and the value that team that he went to the miami heat when up thirty percent this is all according to calculations done by forbes magazine and when you take all this into account how much ticket sales would go up how much tv revenue would go up the people who study this will tell you that lebron james should be making around forty million dollars a year more double his current salary and there we have it the mathematically precise amount by which the brian james is getting hosed is getting hosed out of over twenty million dollars a year all right so if that's the case let's say i'm the general manager of my beloved brooklyn nets we're not that good we're stuck in the middle of the pack i'm sorry that's that's all right with the stop me from saying we'll get to your team in a minute what's to stop me from saying hey lebron james i will pay your full value i'll pay you forty million dollars a year if you come over and play for my team was you know alex you're not allowed to do that no i'm not no there is a salary cap in the nba there's a limit on how much owners can pay their players yeah there's a limit on how much they can pay in salaries overall and there's a limit on how much.

"Thirteen times in his nba career lebron james has reached the postseason and when the story of his career is told it a likely begin with the many memorable moments he has created during those thirteen trips eight nba finals appearances including seven consecutive three championships three finals 'em vp awards a triple double average in the finals the list goes on and on but there are other moments some you might not know about and some might have forgotten that helped shape lebron story stretching all the way back to the days after he was drafted right through fashioning the greatest finals comeback in nba history if you're not familiar with these thirteen moments then you're not getting the true full story of the career of lebron james the first summer of lebron summer league wasn't he had a big event in two thousand three but that year at the pepsi pro summer league in orlando games were moved from a private gym to td waterhouse center to allow thirteen thousand fans to catch a glimpse of james playing a meaningless game and an nba practice jersey for the first time outside the arena fans swarmed the cleveland cavaliers as the arrived in a fleet of suv's according to longtime team communications director tad carper it was a playoff like atmosphere you couldn't see who was inside the suv's and fans were tapping on the window and trying to scout the tickets carper said a week later at the reebok pro summer league the cavs wised up and chartered a bus to take them to the tiny three thousand seat clark athletic center on umass boston campus summer league organizers arranged for makeshift parking in what carper remembers as a mixed dirt and gravel lot which was supposed to be secure from fans who had also park there it wasn't several fans in the lot by laying on the ground underneath their cars when the cavs piled off the bus the fans rolled out into plain sight hoping to get an auto.

"We go into the second half of the nba season now everybody's got a little film on george hill inla braun and jordan clarkson and lebrun and larry nance junior and lebrun and rodney hood lebrun they first got together nobody'd seen him play together for four games they look great best team in the league now everybody's got the all star break look at film all the coaches breakdown the film a rodney hood and larry nance junior and george hill and jordan clarkson they looked at the film a lot of football teams are good in september new england's generally good in december and january so now look braun is figuring out what everybody in the nba knows is that those four guys were spare tires and when you have a flat tyre spare tires feel really good but that's all these new cavs arsal abroad started complaining about the referees after getting beaten badly by san antonio here it is that the rule of thumb we protect the shooter more than a driver there is no reason i should be going to the life fourtime can again when i drive a hundred times to the pain i'm getting hit slaheddine grabbed whatever whatnot so what we protect the shooter not so that's what is tired into uh no chicks dig delong boll and uh that's what it's about no that's not what it's about what it's about is lebron james's shooting fewer free throws this year than almost any other year of his career why because lebron james is settling for 3pointers at a higher percentage than almost any year in his career when you settle for three pointers and don't drive the basket you don't shoot as many free throws but that's not while lebron's upset lebron is upset for another reasoning you see this in relationships were you complain about breakfast and the toast being burnt but what you really want is out of the relationship see a pick fights lebron james chose to come back to cleveland and lebron james would prefer staying in cleveland because it believes cleveland he's going to be the villain of the nba for at least a year nb called a ring chaser i've always said his heart is in cleveland people move out of cleveland to miami he moved from me.
