"How many cooks are in the kitchen? What kind of decision making power do they have jeanie buss? What role does she play in terms of making basketball decisions, rob pelinka, Kurt rambis, Linda rambis also known as the rambi as we call them. You've got them in the mix Magic Johnson has to say, still Phil Jackson does. I think that's one of the frustrations for Lakers fans is where does the blame truly lie? And that's of course something we've talked about quite a bit. But you mentioned in terms of the rush decision. Russell Westbrook. What are the Lakers do with him? Now, it seems like his exit interview was a very sour one. And it doesn't appear like he's all that happened. Obviously, didn't have the kind of season that he was hoping to have, doesn't seem like a good fit. $47 million player option Russ declined to say whether or not he was picking it up. But let's face it, everybody around the league expects him to pick it up. So what do you do if you're rob link and you're trying to manage this situation with rust? Do you even consider bringing him back next year? I mean, I just don't know how you walk in the next training camp. And you go through the season that you just went through. And you say, we're going to try LeBron James Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook one more time. I really just don't see it. I don't know how that is possible to even think of that being a scenario. Now maybe they can't go out and make a trade, maybe they decide, we just have to make it work, but I just, in my head, at some point this year, it was decided that, okay, we're not good enough to win the whole thing. That this rust trade obviously is not working. And whether it just came down to that the season's already shot. So let's not even shoot our bullets at the trade deadline. Probably that's the same thing with Lakers head coach Frank Vogel. They just knew that, okay, let's just wait till the season ends and clean this whole thing up. I can't see Russ on the Lakers again. That just sounds impossible to me. And it also sounds like a really bad strategy. The Lakers have been in this all in mode for a while. We've seen a couple of the different scenarios out there. Maybe there's an opportunity with the Indiana Pacers. Maybe there's an opportunity with Charlotte hornets. Maybe there's an opportunity with a New York Knicks. I'm just naming off teams that, you know, we've been, it's been rumored, may want to clear some of their contracts to go get that one contract that they can get rid of in one year, but you can't bring these three back. You just can't. And I really don't see all that much changing. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's a new coach and a new voice and things will change, but I don't see how what rust brings to the table, compliments what the other two guys do. And I'm sure Russ feels the same way. Russ probably in his own head is figuring to himself. I should probably go play somewhere else. I mean, he said he didn't get a fair chance in LA. Maybe part of that was Frank Vogel, part of that was his relationship with the fans. In any event, it was bad all around. But this is what I've seen on social media from Lakers fans. From Lakers nation, there's concern because LeBron AD Russ, they all mention. Some variation of the fact that they only appeared in what was it, 21 ish games together. I mean, there's got to be a little cause for concern there..

"And now, the low post. Welcome to the low post podcast recording on a cloudy Thursday evening on the east coast where the NBA season is wrapping up. We have a half dozen games left seemingly every playoff race somehow in the balance except except at the very top of the Western Conference where the Memphis Grizzlies have clinched the number two seed and the 62 and 14 Phoenix Suns, 62 and 14. Are 942 games ahead of everyone else in the NBA and have set the land speed record from evolving from bad team to bubble curiosity to, are they kind of an underdog in the first round, even though they're the second seed to juggernaut at least by the numbers that has raised the question of, are we just messing around and making up storylines and the title winning Phoenix Suns are just an inevitability coming to steamroll. Everybody, that's what 62 and 14, that's what an 81 winning percentage means like two days ago they were a laughingstock. Now they're in the same category as the 96 bulls. I'm interested to talk about the team. I'm interested to talk about the evolution. I'm interested to talk about what it feels like to live that evolution as a fan and there is no one better than do that with then ESPN's research guru resident suns fan, secret MVP of NBA today, Michael Schwartz, how are you, sir? Doing great, Zach, and it's funny. Whenever you invite me on, that means the sons are doing something either a curiosity like the bubble or something really incredible. So always great to be here. So I want to start with the zoomed out fan part of it. Again, it's I think all of us thought the suns would be really good this year. Maybe the number one seed in the west, I don't think I'm not sure even 60 wins seemed like possible. They have 6 games left. If all they do is go three and three. They join the 65 win club and we can talk about how few members that club has and what most of them end up doing. And they're 9 games ahead of the grizzlies and even more than that if everyone of everyone in the east, how is this, they keep reaching stages so far ahead of schedule that we as the NBA media and fan fandom have difficulty sort of grappling with what they are and where they are because they sneak up on us. They get there before we're ready to sort of anoint them. What is this been like for you? Are you surprised? Are you like, what's going on here? Do you ever feel like you're having an out of body experience? Like, wait a second, the sons are gonna win 66 games, maybe? Yeah, Zach, I'm probably as optimistic as anyone about the sons, yet the last three years, everything they do. It's like, you know what? I think they could, I think they actually have a shot in the bubble. I think they might make a little bit of a run, but 8 no, I didn't see that coming. Last year, you know, I thought, okay, you add Chris Paul, this is a definite playoff team. I thought, top four seed was where my head was at going into last year. And what do they do? They blow the doors down on that 51 wins. The two seed and go all the way to the finals, like you said, despite for some reason being an underdog in round one. This year, I thought they would win upper 50s games. I thought the vaguest projection, which I think was right around 50 was way off and I think they were underrating how much. Hold up. Hold on. It was 50? It was, I think it was just over 50. It wasn't close to this. I mean, the Lakers were way ahead of them, you know? The Lakers were a few games ahead of them. I think they were right there with the jazz, like maybe 51, 52, somewhere in that range. They were nowhere near 60. I thought maybe 58, something like that, which honestly going into the year would have been optimistic, and I'll probably miss that by 7 or so games. So let's flip it. So that's like all happy feel good, unexpected, like expectations are everything in life. You know, when people over hype a movie to me, I watch it and I'm like, that was all right. It was like a B and then when I haven't heard of a movie and it's good, I'm like, wow, it was amazing. Everyone's got to see this movie. So let's flip it around. Is it dawning on you or maybe you don't think this way? That you have now reached the point where anything but winning the championship is a failure, is that fair? Is it dawned on you that like, oh my God, we're last year felt like just gravy on top of gravy on top of gravy, and now it's like last year would be a failure. Absolutely, I feel that way. And like last year, obviously, go up to O in the finals, you expect to win the series at that point. And they lose four in a row. So honestly, I didn't even feel that terrible at that point because it's like, wow, this was an incredible season. They had the second best record. They made it all the way to the final is they really rolled right through the Western Conference. They didn't have any difficulty in the playoffs until they got to Milwaukee. So it's like, okay, this was an unbelievable year, but I think if that happens again, this season, anything certainly short of the finals is at this point a pretty huge failure, and even not winning it would be a failure. So yeah, I think the expectations have finally caught up to them where the only thing they can do now is win the championship. So how does that feel as a fan? Are you more nervous for the postseason than you were last year? Because you know that those are the stakes that people are going to point to them as a failure, not even point to them that you're going to internalize it as a failure if they don't win it. Does that make this less pleasant almost? I think I'm less nervous 'cause I'm more confident, you know, 'cause last year you just didn't know what to expect it had been a decade since they'd been in the playoffs. And who do you draw in round one? You draw the man who famously has never lost a first round series in LeBron James Anthony Davis. I think like everyone but Bobby marks picked them from ESPN to win in round one. They were vague as favorites despite it being a two 7. So I think especially when Chris Paul went down, it was such a fun season last year. They played so well throughout the year. I was nervous that it almost would have been swept away if you lose in round one. I think now I know what this team is. I'm a lot more confident that they are going to at least roll through the west playoffs. I have no idea who's going to come out of the east and what that matchup might look like. So I think I'm more confident overall, even though you're right, there is definitely more pressure there. It's not just happy to be here anymore. I do look forward to Anthony Davis coming on inside the NBA in like 25 years and be like, you know, if I have been healthy, we're taking down the suns in the first remember that series into a 2021 we're winning that series. It's reaching if the Lakers were healthy is reaching the 2008 Celtics never lost a playoff series when they were fully healthy. It's not quite there. It's not quite there because that is really, I mean, in 2008 Celtics is almost a decade and a half ago and that still a trope that's one of them will bring out every 18 months..

"Without the Anthony Davis trade. So I'm not going to argue against that trade, but yeah, if we're looking at things right now, if you were to just magically put all those players on the Lakers alongside the broad, it might look okay. They might look pretty good. But the reality was also, if you're the Lakers, you've got all those young guys, you're not going to be able to pay all of them under the constraints of the salary cap, moving forward. You weren't going to be able to do that. So that was a factor too in the decision to kind of consolidate all of that and make that Anthony Davis trade. We've got a question here or comment from Facebook. Hey Trevor, what's the point of getting Ellington if we haven't given him a chance? He's a shooter that's we've wanted. You can argue that Wayne Ellington maybe should have got some more minutes, but defensively it hasn't worked out there. He hasn't been that dynamic on the offensive end of the floor. I think frankly, Malik monk has been so good that he's usurped all the minutes from Wayne Ellington. I think that's kind of what's happened there. And rightfully so, I think there's no question that Malik monk has been a much higher impact player. He's more versatile on the offensive end of the floor, for sure. Somebody said, but you pay Russ 40 million. Look, 40 million for us is less than what it would cost you to pay BI and Lonzo and Josh Hart and Kyle, like stacking up all those guys. Don't again. Again, I'm not trying to defend the Russell Westbrook trade. I clearly was not the correct move for the Lakers. By the way, I thought Russ was just fine tonight. I enjoyed what we saw to him tonight. But obviously it was not the right move. So I'm not trying to defend the Russell Westbrook trade or anything like that. But those aren't the same thing. Those aren't the same thing. Schroeder wanted a 100 million. Yeah. And he got 5. He got 5. And yes, it is 44 million this year, 47 million next year. I know for Russell Westbrook. I'm very aware of the contract situation. From this game, tonight's game, again, I thought the Lakers did everything that they could in order to pick up the win, thought the Lakers fought hard. We'll see if they can bring that into tomorrow night's game. Once again, tomorrow night against the pelicans, that is the must must must win. I sure hope I sure hope the Lakers get get that win. Get that win tomorrow, at least keep up alive, continue going down the stretch. If you don't have players on the field with the right skills, whether it's breakaway speed or elite playmaking ability, you're going to have a tough time winning. The.

"If he isn't coaching next year, just to kind of decompress. He's talked about how this has been his most difficult season that he's ever coached. And he's been on teams that have lost a lot. He coached the magic for a little while. So I understand the frustration that he's got to be feeling too. Wouldn't surprise me if you took a little bit of time to kind of recharge and then got back in the mix. Takes a season off and then we'll see him somewhere next season. That would not surprise me. Or season after next. Wouldn't surprise me at all. I think we're pretty sure that Vogel is not going to be back next year with this Lakers team. It's rare to see a coach hang on to this to their spot after a season like this. My guy, bad dog says Lakers need defense. Yeah, they definitely do. They absolutely do regardless of who the coaches. You could say if it's Frank Vogel, you need to find defensive pieces for next year. That's absolutely true, but even assuming it's not. You need guys and we've said it all along. Alongside LeBron James, it's not rocket science. You need guys who can shoot threes and can defend. That's what you're looking for. You need guys who can do those things for you. And I don't feel like the Lakers got enough of them. At least they didn't get enough guys this off season that could do both things. You've got guys who can shoot but not defend you have guys who can kind of defend but not really shoot they really need some two way players then they can put alongside LeBron and whoever else is here Anthony Davis. Whoever else is with the Lakers. Ricardo said, I don't understand the Lakers decision to keep Vogel if they will fire him at the end of the season. In soccer, for example, you either get rid of a coach for a short term bounce, or you get players to fit his vision. So Ricardo, if I'm understanding this correctly, you're arguing that the Lakers should have got rid of him already. Why did you keep him for the remainder of the season? I'm in agreement. I thought for sure that at the very least, if the Lakers know if you know you're not going to bring back Frank Vogel, which we're probably at that point, let's be honest. You're probably at that point this year. You might as well at the very least find out what Phil handy can do as a head coach. And you mentioned the short term bounce, there is an effect that usually does happen where when you remove a coach and you bring in somebody else, there is a short term boost in the play of that team. Here's the team goes, oh my gosh, something is new. It can kind of snap teams out of it. It's like it's like getting a bucket of cold water thrown on the team, right? It wakes you up and suddenly you're suddenly you're alerted again and you can get an improvement in performance. Now it's not usually a long-term effect. It's a short term thing, but I'm in agreement with you. I think that they probably should have done that. I think why the Lakers didn't is they looked around and thought, I don't see the guy who's going to take over this team. Do we want to hand it over to David fizdale? Probably not. We saw what happened when Frank Vogel was dealing with health and safety protocols. What happened there? It wasn't a successful stretch..

"If you were someone you know as a gambling problem, call one 805 two two 4700. Maddie James from YouTube, the super chat feels like every team in the NBA is kicking their chops and happy about the Lakers struggles, no matter who they play, they're looking to beat this team down. Oh yeah, absolutely. Look, I mean, the Lakers have beaten down teams for decades. For decades, and so that then gives you, if you are another team, that gives you a little bit of the extra motivation to come back in and say, yeah, remember when these guys were pounding us into the ground, they were beat notes every single time they played us. Yeah, we're going to go, we're going to get our revenge now. It's a thing. And they also know if you're an opposing team, you know that when you play the Lakers, that game's going to have more eyeballs on it than your regular games, right? If you're the Utah Jazz, you've got more people watching this game if you're playing the Lakers and it's on national television that if you're playing the Orlando Magic or whoever. And so that matters too. Players want to look their best when they're on national TV when they're playing the Lakers. There's a lot of eyeballs. That's something that also matters. People say Covington sucks. No, I think Covington is very versatile. I think that he fits in a system. Carol is Reeves just suddenly stopped scoring. Why is he not playing good anymore? His shot has gone missing recently. It's been, you know, he's zero for one from the field tonight. He just hasn't been in a rhythm. I still think we know Reeves is a lot better than what we've seen recently, but he's just kind of in a little bit of a funk right now. Hopefully it's something that he will pull out of here. Matty James of the super chat says, I love these young players. We have for the Lakers, the effort and the fight they put into every game no matter what, the only positive to come of the season..

"Augustine, three O four from DP continues to light it up from behind the arc for your Los Angeles Lakers. So that was something there. Sean Tate, do you believe the Lakers will make the play and right now it is less likely that they will make the plan than likely. So let's say if we're looking at the Lakers schedule and you're looking at the spur schedule, both have really different difficult schedules down the stretch. The Lakers have two games where you'd look at it and say, okay, they probably have a pretty good shot of winning those games. And that's the pelicans game tomorrow night. And the thunder game, the second to last game of the season. Those are the two games that stand out on the schedule for the Lakers. The spurs have two games as well. Two games against the blazers. Those are kind of give me wins at this point because the blazers aren't really playing anybody. They don't really have much of a team anymore. They've had so many injuries, so many guys out for the year. So if that's the case, if the spurs win their two games against the blazers and the Lakers only win the two games against the pelicans and against the thunder, that's it. Lakers are out. Lakers are out. That's how it goes. And the Lakers they have to win one more game than the spurs. And so because of that, I could see them not making it. I also saw a spurs team that was really competing really, really competing, really getting after it. And they almost beat the grizzlies last night. I think grizzly's without John morant, but still, we've seen that team be successful. The Lakers got very, very lucky. The spurs Kelvin Johnson missed a layup at the buzzer to beat the grizzlies last night, otherwise that would have really put the Lakers into tough spot, had the spurs managed to get an upset win over the grizzlies, but the spurs, the way they're playing right now, they're playing like they want in the plane and they really want to knock the Lakers out. So if the spurs managed to pull off an upset win here or there, even just one. I think that's going to make it very, very unlikely that the Lakers do make it in. Abdullah Ali said, is there any way we can get Gary Trent junior next year?.

"Anthony, Davis, for better and for worse, how healthy and effective LeBron James Anthony Davis are. They can camouflage any problems. They can obviously make things easier for teammates. So that goes without saying, it's the same importance as it was. Their first two seasons together. How effective and healthy can they be? I think the number two thing is, I don't doubt the sincerity in guys like Russell Westbrook and Carmel Anthony. And some of the other new pieces are Wayne Ellington, a Kendrick nunn are with buying in to their role and adjusting. But I think that there could also be tactical challenges when it comes to that. And the most notable example is Russell Westbrook. I think that he's obviously at a stage of his career where he's accomplished a lot. He obviously set the record, the league record for most triple doubles, but it doesn't have an MBA championship. I think he is eager to collect that ring, and also dispel the narrative that he can't be a part of winning basketball. But I think that even if he has to write intentions, there are going to be tactical adjustments of how do you divide ball handling duties with him and LeBron James. How does he reduce the weaknesses in his game with the three point shooting to the Lakers have enough reinforcements in some of the three and D guys that they got this off season? So the offset Westbrook's weaknesses. So I think that the second factor is not only the buy in, but how well tactically can everyone adjust their roles? With all that, I think the Lakers are the championship favorites. I would pick them. But it's going to be a competitive landscape when you look at the Brooklyn Nets. When you look out west, the Phoenix Suns, I think are still the real deal. Obviously the Milwaukee Bucks, you have to take seriously after winning the NBA title. So it's going to be a challenging. But I think the Lakers obviously have what it takes to win another ambient title. Well, you know, you mentioned everybody kind of buying in, accepting their role. That's what it's going to take. We think back to the 2020 title team, right? And obviously that was a disjointed season. Everything that happened there. But they started the season off with their training camp in Vegas. Their mini camp and that's what's happening with this team here, and they had this mantra of be a star in your role. And I felt like they kind of got away from that last season. You didn't quite have that same chemistry..

"Lakers today got a special guest joining us to talk a little Lakers basketball Mark Medina from USA Today. Mark, how are you doing, man? Trevor, I am good. It's crazy how another NBA season's just around the corner, but here we are. It really is. And you know what? It's felt like it's kind of taken forever for a lot of fans out there, but at the same time, it's gone by pretty quick too. It's been another short off season, but as we were talking before we came on here, at least it was long enough for us to get a little bit of a break a little bit of a recharge and now we can fully dive back into basketball. Yeah, and I'm sure that the Lakers are gonna feel that as well. I mean, as you know, when the Lakers won the 2020 NBA championship in the bubble, 71 days later, is when training camp started. And that was a very short turnaround. Guys weren't really able to get rested, weren't able to clear their heads. It's challenging enough that there was still a pandemic going on. And here, while the Lakers obviously were not happy with the fact that they lost in the first round of the Phoenix Suns, they thought that they could defend their MBA championship. There is an unintended silver lining about the fact that, you know, LeBron James Anthony Davis, most in particular, have a chance to rejuvenate their bodies and minds and get after it with their off season regimen. And that's something that those guys and the rest of the Lakers supporting cast didn't really have that opportunity to last season. So a little interesting to see how that factor plays out as well as all the new faces that will represent this team this year. Well, yeah, let's talk about those new faces because when you look at this Lakers off season, maybe a little bit of a surprise. Three players total three players came back from last season. The rest of the roster has been turned over, what did you think about what the Lakers front office did over the summer? You know, it was interesting, Trevor, because when the Lakers after the Lakers lost in the first round, the Phoenix Suns. I think the message from the front office, coaching staff to the players was, hey, this is a one off season. A lot of the season long failures just had to do with the compressed nature of this season. Coming off the bubble injuries and that they would be totally content with running it back. Now, me know in the Lakers, me know and how opportunistic we're uplink is..

"Story and look. This is the kind of flyer the lakers were going to have to take. They did not have any capri left to go. They're going to have to get guys. They're chasing rings on the minimum and carmelo to his credit. He wants to do ice. Oh and shoot it portland. He bought into a role as a spot up. Shooter shot the three well. That's the role. He's going to have to play for the lakers. But with all of these guys whether it's ellington as more reza carmelo with the exception of res. I think the big question is going to be when push comes to shove when you're in the conference finals when you're in the second round the place whatever it is. Can you stay on the floor defensively. Do the lakers who have made their bones all the sexy stuff. Whatever they have made their bones on defense have they hurt their defense. Too much in this in this. All of this rosser building. I think that's they. They are going to be a really interesting team. Well let me ask you a question which also reporting maleek monk to the lakers. Where do you think now as you look at the whole roster and where where it sort of sets or great flyer for the lakers. I haven't seen that. I looked at my phone kind of nice bounceback season last year. He could really shoot. He can play make as a secondary playmaker that is. That's that when they lost caruso they needed more guys in their prime and maliki manca stolen is prime. And i think that's a that's a great move by rapport guys so great flyer parkway where you see what i love the move of getting mark. I think he's a hell of a addition. But you see. Zach is still trying to find holes and talking about defensive prowess in the defensive identity. They still have anthony davis they still have the white. How would they still have lebron. James look when you have a veteran group like is. This group is built for a seven game series because you have a veteran group. That's gonna bulk down. They know what it takes. You have a lot of championship spears. Look stop trying to find holes and find things. That's wrong with the lakers. Instead of just saying listen. I know they have an old scoring but they have a lot of talent on this team. They have a lot of death and they have fixed these holes joe trying to talk about depth. I don't know talent. yes and look now in one place. I just want to put this out there. Lebron james anthony davis russell westbrook carmelo anthony. The list goes on to show on. Talk about showtime. I think is going to be pretty incredible right across the street here. I'm personally happy. We have another orioles fan here in. La our friend. Kyle goon from the orange. County register is very excited. I know about that as well. So the newsgroup so Yeah i think that Overall this is a win all the way. We are going to be talking a lot. More about the lakers. "Find a situation. Where lebron james on the court and he thinks somebody makes better decisions and is a better exposer of mismatches than him and because he feels that way he'll say all the right things and i'm not saying he genuinely meet until he gets on the court and purview the landscape and looks at what he's playing with a who he's playing against and he's like net is i need to be the one to make this call data what i guess james. Let me tell. Joe nielsen's children. They go back and look at him and rondo played together when they want it. We saw a lot of times. Bra would give the ball of rondo and play off the ball and he trusted rondo because wando is one of the best floor generous to ever play the game right. So when you look at russell westbrook i think we don't give him enough credit and his for his decision making we talked about a guy who led the league in this last year and you had a lot of g. league clip around him and now you add lebron james anthony davis gonna find shooters along with a guy like tucker. He's one the floor is way. He's going to lead the league in the city. When you're in a stoop basketball mind greenie like my man kendrick perkins ultimately become a little bit slick and you got to know what the hell you talking about mc up to catch him because can't you perkins knows what i'm about to say yes. Lebron defer to rondo. Because we're rondo. You go get the ball back. You see the difference because dorando in china shoot. You're saying rondo is literally looking past body like that. It's very easy for lebron referred to in terms of a decision maker. Rondo is brilliant. He's a basketball savant. And what have you. But also he's a basketball savant. Who's not looking to shoot. He's absolutely looking to defer first second and third option before even thinks about shooting in most situations that's not russell westbrook and russell westbrook. Here's the thing that i think needs to be said in a positive way about russell westbrook. He's not he's not selfish the fact that people talk about him like he's selfish. No no. that's not him he's dogged. He has a strong belief on himself. He as scared.

The Wizards and 70 Sixers started softened one o'clock Lakers and sons are on ABC and ESPN Radio at 3 30 Hawks. Knicks foreign five seed in the East at seven o'clock tonight. Then you've got Grizzlies and the Jazz one versus eight in the west at 9:30 P.m.. If Peter Burns always does this if you had the keys to a private jet. You're leaving Miami this morning. Which game would you want to see in person? You can only choose one. A lot of fun stars and all of these games. Frankly, that would be fun to watch in person. I don't know why Peter Burns has to fly private. I mean, I like what he's doing there, but there are commercial flights. I think they go to all of these cities where these games are, so I don't know what we're doing with the PJ, But I'm down to get on a PGA at any point. So if I had to board one today to go to a game Honestly, I'd probably go Lakers Suns, even though I don't necessarily think that's actually going to be the most interesting Syriza amongst the teams. I think that For me. Hawks Knicks is the Syriza that has a ton of question marks, and obviously they're both coming off of significant postseason droughts and rebuilds and I think that that is going to be a fun series. I don't have a sense for who's going to win that Syria's I do think with Lakers Suns, though. Obviously you want to see LeBron I think it's fun. A fun story here with Chris Paul is well on the other side of that one. The signs are like the most disrespected two seed in the history of the world, right like I think there's one part I think Bobby marks is the only person at ESPN who chose the sons in this Syriza's Everyone's choosing the seven seed Katie in this Syriza Lakers Suns and I feel a little bad for the sighting to regard but I'm one of them. I'm also taking the Lakers in this series because If I was a gambling woman, I'm not betting against LeBron James. Okay, Well, you're not alone. J. Williams, host of Keyshawn J. Well and Zubin. He agrees. Every team has flaws me, especially for the Lakers. Two guys coming off injuries where they find that chemistry. Where's the outside shooting for the Lakers is a narrative that always follows his basketball team. I like that. They grind it out and let the one thing you know when you're going to play against Phoenix. Yeah, the banana boat boys. Banana boat boys will be back competing against each other. Cp three, But the fact is look there young basketball team. This is a better in basketball team. They should be the favorite. That's actually a very good point. In terms of you know the sons being young, although they do have a veteran leader, and Chris Paul, who I think is one of the best leaders in the league, But I feel bad for the sons and then the qualified for the post season for the first time in a decade. They climb all the way up to number two in the West, only to be forced to play LeBron James Anthony Davis and the Lakers in the first round after L A, you know, sunk in the standings because they had so many different injuries that they were trying to overcome so I feel bad. For the Phoenix Suns in that instance, and I hate that everybody's picking the Lakers, but In my mind. I hope they prove everybody wrong. I think they're so gifted and so much fun to watch. They certainly have been, you know, and throughout the regular season, and you know, in the times that the Lakers and sons matched up in that regular season they played three times May 9th the most recent where you know the Lakers actually 11 23 21 10. LeBron was inactive for that one. But the other two games On in March, both in March, the sons 11 11 to 94 1, 14 to 1 of four and LeBron James played on March 2nd and he scored 38 points in the center still able to beat him, so they've won two out of three. Against the Lakers. Now, hopefully that can give him some kind of confidence as they go into this first round. But it'll be interesting to see now that LeBron James and Anthony Davis are close to being full strength and healthy again. How that a bold for Ah young team in the sun, So that's a good one into your point about the Hawks and the Knicks. I think it's going to be I really gritty one eye experts are saying, you know the next pretty defense versus Atlanta's finesse filled offense. You know who's going away out there, but No Alan Hahn, host of Barton Han. He thinks it's going to be a close one, too. It's going to be. I think a very even serious I really do and I think it's and I know it's 45. So they're supposed to be right. A 45 Syriza's supposed be even because of the closeness in the seedings. Have the same exact record, and despite the fact that the Knicks were three you know against Atlanta this year, which is how they got the fourth seed. I feel like these air very evenly matched teams and there's a couple reasons why number one. They both have good benches. They both have good veterans coming off those benches. They also both have Core young players, and I include Randall because he's only the sixth season. I have never been to the postseason is their first borrow it for a so for them. It's all new experience. Right? So for them, it's also who is going to shine and who might be a little overwhelmed by it. I think both coaches are great coaches. They both are great coaches, and they've also got some really fun players, right? Obviously we all of watching Trey Young. I think it's interesting. A guy that grew up in my neck of the woods and play for Kentucky down the street from me. Julius Randle. I mean, who would have thought that this guy would jump from 28% from behind the arc to 41% in his seventh season like he's somebody that I found is hitting his stride. He's been great for the next and in their resurgence to prominence Finally, so it'll be interesting to see how these two teams fare against one another Could New York when the first round On, then move on to face the 76 years. I mean, that would be great for the city of New York. I know they've been waiting a long, long, long time for this. It'll be interesting to see what kind of fight Atlanta puts up. And so for the winner of this round in New York and Atlanta, waiting on the other side, and I hate to just dismiss the Wizards like this, but It's going to be the Philadelphia 76 years and my question to you, Amber is do you feel like they have the easiest road ahead to make it to the Eastern Conference finals? Well, they certainly don't have the most difficult. There's that and listen. There was the one seed right. That's the advantage of the one seed. I don't mean to discredit what Russell Westbrook has done this year. Obviously, he's an unbelievably fun player to watch. That's going to be a lot of fun today. What Bradley Beal is done for that team. I'm with you, though. I think that the 76 years role in that syriza and they have easy street to get to the conference championship if they're able to, But you know whether we get the Hawks or the Knicks..

"There was some not so nice things said about him and Co I Leonard and that article, and they also got Doc Rivers fired. So look at all the drama. Look at all the dysfunction there. Can they win a championship? Sure, they could win a championship. Right If I'm quite Leonard with some of the things that Paul George has said maybe I'm questioning if I recruited and I got the right guy to join me in a way. And for the Nets. Maybe it's not the full percentage of this, but I have to imagine it's a certain percentage. Where going in and getting James Harden? Yes, it's the appeal of having all three superstars there, and all three superstars working. Also, though, it has to be a Kyrie Irving insurance policy, bringing in James Harden in case of Kyrie, who is expected to come back after hearing Sean Marks speak today. But who knows how long he's going to be committed? Because Kyrie is the biggest enigma right now in the MBA? So the bottom line I look back at those three teams. LeBron James made the best decision. LeBron James made the best decision of who's going to be his number two piece. Because Paul George as good of a player as he is Lot of questions and who knows what he's gonna look like in the postseason. Kevin Durant. His two guys. James Hardin, Jim started and show up in the postseason. Kyrie Irving. We just hope he shows up on a basketball court in the near future. I'm with Kyrie. There's been a lot of ugliness since he's left Cleveland with Boston and now what's happening in Brooklyn, so give credit to LeBron James. He knows how to build the championship winner and only that he knows how to pick Who's going to be that number two superstar. That's not only going to be the most effective It isn't good to create drama and isn't going to cause issues like the others have in Paul George. And and, um Kyrie Irving and also James Harden. He's out of shape right now. Look out. He playing that? Accidents from a from the Rockets. So there's drama. Around the Nets. There's drama around the Clippers. Is it Amazing? LeBron James Anthony Davis was same team no drama surrounding those two superstars because they are in lockstep in everything they do 855 to 1 to four, CBS. Let's go to Amos and Tennessee next up on CBS Sports Radio. I do. Thank you for taking my call. I am. You know I can't help. But just just think back on 2011 when a large portion of the country was really happy when the Dallas Mavericks be the newly formed super team, LeBron James and, um The Miami Heat. Well, you know, Thinking back on this. The only difference is those guys were actually professionals. Chris Bosh, you could always count on, just show up and play LeBron James. He always knew that he was gonna bring his a game. Dwayne Wade. That was his team and he was the face of the franchise. These guys, you know Kyrie Irving, who even knows where he is? James Harden sold out. And quit on his team to get to where he is. I mean, who can even pull for this team other than New York market And you know, Houston, where they say is what the third or fourth best or highest sports market in the country. We're a lot of people in Texas right now. Really? Pig pissed off because James Harden quit on the team, So I mean, It's a big market, but it's a It's a bad sport City. It is a bad sport city. You know, I know the Astros have had some success for awhile. Um, I know the Rockets have been a playoff team for a while. You look at a team like the Texans. They never are legit title contender. It is not a great sports city. They got some good teams. They got some teams that are interesting. But I would not say that those fans are great fans. But yet if I'm a Rockets fan I'm annoyed. I'm definitely annoyed at James Harden. That relationship brand its course. And James Harden. He wasn't classy in his departure. Just look back at that press conference, But this is not the new when stars one out. Hey, if I'm gonna be fair, and if you're gonna get on James Harden Anthony Davis basically did the same thing. Maybe, he said more of the right things in New Orleans. But for a whole year Anthony Davis wanted out in the worst way. I'm just kind of numb to it at this point, because you see it all the time and sometimes guys leave via free agency. But this being under contract and there's just guys they're able to get out of their contracts because they pout. And they are disgruntled stars and the organization's cave. The Rockets with how bad heart and got this too. They couldn't keep him on the roster anymore, and they ended up, you know, working out well from it. How many picks they're getting their four first round picks and then four picks swaps, too. Made out okay, and we'll see where that team is, because let's be real hard and was one of the championship there. All right, we'll take a time out. We'll come on back. We'll talk about some changes with the Steelers 855 to 1 to four. CBS is the number to get on in first up with the latest CBS Sports Radio Update. We get to Rich Ackerman. See me? Yes. Sports flag.

Lakers-Clippers Christmas game may tell us a lot about them
"Christmas night LA clippers versus the Lakers both lebron James Anthony Davis are expected to play coming back from injuries up deathly still plenty of time left in the season but do you think this game is a western finals preview well it certainly could be I don't think there's any question those two teams are first of all they're loaded with star power which is you know such as such an important ingredient for that they're they're not you know the Lakers do have the best record right now clippers not but again clippers have invented a hundred percent all year it's amazing you know sometimes we those of us in the media hype things to March in before this year started everybody was talking about clippers and Lakers and I wasn't sure the Lakers were going to come together as quickly as they have add well guess what the hype is legit and now that the clippers are getting close to a hundred percent obviously the Lakers gonna get healthy right now was a pioneer you mention whether broader eighty reading a play but I mean when it comes to April may and and hopefully June certainly for one of them possibly it's going to be special and they have the two of them in the same building in the you know the bragging rights and all the targeted you know it's the one to build another bill they have their own building it's great you couldn't ask for a better story line and it certainly makes lebron's decision to go to LA look look pretty look like a pretty good decision for both from a personal standpoint and certainly from a team standpoint yeah you can reference that they're the Lakers have lost three state straight but still as best twenty four and six as such a solid thirty games start a love is which team right now do you think the Lakers or clippers better constructed for an NBA title does either team need to add anything you take by the trade deadline of February what well I you know I did that's what the that's with GM's and coaches do you start looking you over analyze your play a game or two I mean that's the three losses at you know a video game was a great game that the game Milwaukee they you know they they kind of got handled injuries clearly a part of it I think the coaches are starting to get a feel for their teams right now and you know they'll come up with what we don't watch the missing ingredient what what are we going to need it for the last couple years was pretty easy to figure out you had if you had to do whatever you need to do to be able to beat Golden State it's not as easy now at you know was flying back to you you knew you had to score points you have defended three you probably had to make a budget three is yourself this year it's a little harder to figure out like with his one team on top for one team that everybody shoot for when they go to five straight finals you know you kind of say well the road to to the championship used to go through local like how do we construct our team to beat Golden State it's a little harder now to make those kind of decisions because you don't know like who is reported to be the two LA teams look at each other but you do it carefully by Denver you can't sleep I'd Houston the east is forget it try to figure out who the best team in Houston he got the records right now Milwaukee clearly has been the best team but they were the best team last year to in the regular season and didn't get it done in the playoffs you know Boston can make a good case everybody kinda wrote Toronto off which is proving to be a mistake Philly is always hard to analyze their dues know when they're good they're so good they've been great at home this struggled on the road so it's I I think that makes a little tougher for the GM's this year I really think it was easier as you got your trade deadline you started tweaking your roster like what's you know what's going to help us to be this particular thing this year it's hard whether it's east or west I think you got to just you know obviously you want you to to be as good as you can sometimes what dictates it is an injury you lose a key player you know guy goes down I happen to live in Seattle it's forty are already backs went down a large shop which now sometimes it's a when you have an injury and it's a big hole in your rosty's there we got to get somebody to replace this guy we need another point guard we need another rebounder so I I I think some of those answers are still to be figured out by the various teams yeah I agree it's definitely more parity this season and Pat and then the password is more teens say they have a shot but it's true everybody says that the beginning of the year to coaches and teams that we can win it this year but complied you had to be gold status you're going to win it the last four five years this year who do you have to be so I think there's a lot of teams look at each other saying Hey we're as good as anybody we can win this whole thing and and I think that's
