NBA Fines Philadelphia 76ers’ Daryl Morey $50,000 For Tweet About James Harden

"Last of basketball operations daryl. Morey is getting in trouble with the twitter again all right. He's been fined fifty thousand dollars for violating the nba anti-tampering policy the finest in response to a to a december twentieth tweet about the houston rockets superstar. James harden obviously gio more used to be there. The tweet was deleted several minutes later. Celebrated the one year anniversary of heart and breaking the rockets franchise assists record more told the league. It was an inadvertent post from an automated app. Now more was hired by the seventy sixers less than two weeks after resigning as the rockets manager. And obviously he. The sixers are one of the franchises that have considered trading james harden john. Do you think that maury deserve to be fine for tampering. Here for that. Automated tweet just congratulating james or the one year anniversary of breaking the record. I don't think he should have been fined. But let me say this. I think adam silver is the best commissioner in sports. I think he's super smart. I think that daryl didn't endear has been a guest on our show. Many times may mason. And i both loved daryl. I think daryl didn't read the room here in other words. Tillman for tita. And the rockets are in a mess. Right now with harden. He has their best player. He wants out. Everyone's connecting the dots saying that darryl would love to have him in philadelphia so for darryl to poke that particular bear at this time is a bad look the way this went down and tell me if you agree is as soon as that tweet happened. Somebody in houston called the league office and said this is bs. Were in the middle of trying to navigate a crisis down here. And this guy's congratulating a player and making us look bad. And i think the league had to react at that point and so i wouldn't have find him but i understand why the league did. What do you think yeah. I think i was surprised when i saw that because i thought his tweet was pretty harmless. But i think you're right. I think that that you know james. Initially when he first asked for the trade didn't really have any representation. Okay didn't have an origin at that time is he's always kind of just like his mom and he's he's since tapped into wasserman those guys'll so he's got different representation now they can handle things but initially. There was a lot of consternation amongst the rockets. When darryl was interested daryl's sixers darrow. Were interested in trading for him. Right you know is there. Was there. Contact with darrell. James like there's this. There's a lot of stuff that really doesn't smell right with the rockets and the sixers and james harden and so whether this tweet was made it on time serving. It's just he. Daryl needs to be way more careful and the whole automated app. I just. I don't know if i buy that. I don't know if i bet either. I so i understand. Let's just say this ninety probably ninety eight percent of the time out of silver gets it right so i think that there's probably a backstory to this that all of us don't know and darryl poking the bear in houston at this particular time was probably not the smartest move. But it's not money they're owned by a bunch of hedge fund guys in philadelphia. It darryl can afford it. I think it'll probably go away now.

Rachel Nichols On NBAs Return To Action Outside The Bubble

"We've been getting clarity about what this season is actually going to look like so it scheduled to start december. Twenty second and the finals are expected to end sometime in july. But i wanna talk to you about everything may or may not happen. I guess between those two dates because this is not going to be a bubble situation. Now what are the broad strokes of what the league is planning for this season. I think one of the most interesting things that's going to happen to the nba. Is that the situation in the country. Should hopefully all fingers crossed significantly change. Through the course of the season rachel nichols is the host of espn's nba show the jump. She's been reporting on the nba for nearly two decades. It could be. Maybe i'm being optimistic that there's enough people in this country vaccinated that the numbers of of infection or lower in deaths are low and that we have a full city to city. Travel fans in the stands. Nba finals when right now a majority i think of nba teams or at least a big chunk of them can't even have a single fan in the building. And i think that the nba is smart and taking sort of month by month approach. They're not even planning to release the full season schedule at the beginning of the season. Has it ever happened before. I don't think so in any sport like it's it's it's all a little bit up as they go along because that would imply that they didn't know what they were doing. And i think the nba has shown they really do know what they're doing as much as anyone can right now but we don't know so much about what's going to happen in this country that i they can look at the first chunk and just say okay. Here's what we're gonna do at the beginning and we'll see after that give you the basics. Though in terms of how many games we're playing year where they're going to happen. What are the fundamentals of what the first half of this. Season's gonna look like right. Well they're trying for seventy two games in quote home markets in home arenas. They've talked about trying to do the puzzle pieces of the schedule in a way. Where teams if they're you know a lotta times. Nba teams love to tell you how bad the league offices screw them on their travels. Because you know if you're portland and all of a sudden you're going to miami and then you're going to utah and then you're going to new york and then you're going to denver and then you're going back to brooklyn you're like i was just in new york. They're going to try to not have that happen. The thing that they have on their side this time is that there's really not concerts at arenas to schedule around the ideas that if you travel to a certain region of the country baseball style you can maybe play all the teams all of which is great and they've told teams when you do travel. Obviously they take their own plane they will get to a hotel but a hotel with other people in it so they've given them rules and there is this you know. Nearly one hundred fifty page rulebook. They dumped on the teams and thanksgiving weekend and one of them was. Hey when you're at the t. motel. Your guys can't use the gym and the only way they can use the gym if the hotel agrees to clear every other hotel guests out of the gym keep it closed for the entire duration of the stay. Have it cleaned between each player when they use the hotel gym. I mean there's just that's the level of Of sort of detail. They've gone into which is great but the bottom line is you're playing a sport on like football. Unlike baseball that has played indoors. Where the guys are breathing and sweating wreck on each other with no helmets or equipment in between so the league. That didn't have any player. Positive cova tests through this whole last. Six months of on-court play is going to have them this season pretty much guaranteed. So you're in the bubble.

Los Angeles Dodgers' Justin Turner pulled mid-game during World Series win after positive Covid-19 test

"Win three one, win the series and six, but being completely overshadowed one of the grandest franchises in sports winning the World Series Championship after three decade plus drought is being overshadowed by one player having to leave the game doing a positive corona virus tests and that is just turner but that is also so twenty twenty Jeff Passan is with us this morning Jeff have little more details on what went on that allowed Turner to be on the field for the post game celebration. Hasn't been nothing really allowed him to be on the field. He just chose to be field and nobody was going to drag off after he won the world series. He essentially said I'm going out there and nothing's GonNa stop me I want to pose with the trophy I wanna be with my teammates I want to choose celebrate like somebody WHO's won the world series for the first time and nothing was gonNA stop him and the fallout from that we're GONNA see over the next couple of days hopefully there. Are No other positive corona virus tests on the Los Angeles dodgers. But you know that all remains to be seen as does how they're going to get back to Los Angeles. When they're going to go back, there are a lot of questions still jeff. I don't put this on Justin Turner nor do I put this on the dodgers but how big of an indictment is this on the MLB? They're the ones that pulled him from the game in a there's the one that told him he needs to quarantine. When we see these Leagues Have Championship Games. There are people in the League office who were their security from league offices are there where where is the MLB and all this? Well I think the security tried to stop him from going on there but he you know this is a guy who's covert positive. So is security going to put their hands on him or are they GONNA to? Contract the virus themselves probably not, but they they didn't stop it from going out there and they did remove them and I. Think Rob Manfred got some questions answer about how that happened about what protocols were in place and why they weren't followed. Let me ask you this Jeff Obviously La in second biggest market for Major, League baseball outside of New York in the Yankees Major League Baseball don't want the headline story to be about covert the day after the second biggest market had just won the championship. Course not but I think regardless of weather. Justin Turner went onto the field or not it was going to be pretty interesting part of the story I. Think the fact that he did go back out there makes it a much bigger story now because there are questions, why did he go back out there? How did he go back out there? Who allowed him back out there? How did they not stop it? Jeff what are what are you hearing around the league this early morning about his teammates embracing the fact that he was able to join them for big celebration. GonNa go on up checks message here that I got from general manager. It's A super spreader event on live. TV. Welcome to twenty twenty. And I'M GONNA PULL UP A. Dm I got from an active player isn't here. Now it's nice, but essentially it's What the F. is going on. And that's kind of a thought around baseball and yet. You guys were players let let's put you in that same situation you gotten cut. Seven years ago, and this organization gave you a chance you blossom into an all-star to guy who gets MVP vote someone who's made fifty million dollars somebody who's a leader in the clubhouse and is seen as one of the voices and wants to celebrate this thing that he has worked so hard to celebrate. Would you have gone back out there As a teammate I'm okay with it I don't know if it was me dead had tested positive. I. Don't know because it would had to have happened in the moment and I would have probably responded reacted to my teammates, my coaches in people around me if they was embracing situation most likely I would have joined. But if Jay Wheel for instance is tested positive and he's my teammate I'm. Come on man we me. Yeah this is so subjective Jeff because I'm different I would have wanted to celebrate with my teammates. I just would've wore masks I would have done it differently but. turnage Justin Justin Turner did wear a mask out originally, but there were a couple of instances where cameras got him. He was talking to his wife taking pictures with her gave her a kiss mask was off and he was sitting down on the field for the team picture. To his left was the championship trophy to his right was Dave Roberts the dodgers manager who ten years ago was diagnosed with Hodgkin. Lymphoma. So He's a cancer survivor. He's the person who has a pre existing condition and Justin Turner daybreak spoke for mascots at that point now Dave Roberts told Fox later on I think it was something to the effect that I didn't touch him. but you know he was he was in the same vicinity wasn't for fifteen minutes wasn't close contact defined by CDC but the optics on it as Andrew Freedom and the president of baseball operations says not good.

Sports leagues face challenges amid plans to reopen

"Sports world, facing setbacks as leagues hope for a return according to reports several NFL. Players including cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott testing positive for covid nineteen. It comes as Brooklyn. Nets star Kyrie Irving reportedly said he was against the NBA's return. Due to nationwide protests, CNBC DOT COM sports business reporter Jabari, your US tonight along with mark, Ganassi's the CO founder of Sports Marketing Powerhouse Sports Core Gentlemen. It is good to see you mark to the NFL I. How is this news of the positive test playing out? You think in the League office or better, yet Roger Goodell's basement. and which which holds which basement that is into night? Here's the thing Scott. The NFL fully expected that there would be. Positive cases the NFL players are part of society, so they knew it was a matter of when not if it protocols in place, they've been working with doctors and medical with the Players Association. They're doctors and with doctors all across the country and the CDC and they've got this sudden got this covered. This was now it said the phases isolation then the next protocol. Protocol will be participation, so they actually expected this. They actually specter will be will test positive even in the fall when Games are taking place. I was GONNA ask you. What is the League willing to tolerate? Do you think in terms of a case number? It sounds from you as though they are expecting that these cases could rise in. They're still gonNA play. They are expecting. There will be cases, but they do expect you know. Three months ago we just got the virus just took root and look how much more we know three months later. The NFL season doesn't start for three months from now imagine how much more information image the protocols that will know that are better and how to deal with it that we'll know in three months, so the NFL is going to use this time wisely it's GonNa Learn. What happens with the NBA Major? League Baseball, the NHL MLS on the soccer. Soccer Teams in your even the Australian rugby they're in contact with to make sure that the NFL the NFL players, association, have as much information as they can have the best procedures and protocols, so the season takes place, and if there are players that that get virus, they will be isolated. They'll be treated in the games will still take place okay speaking of the NBA. Let's bring in Jabari young now in Jabbar. We have issues as we said possibly. As it relates to the NBA coming back as well. What can you tell us tonight? Well, it's just the same. The internal friction! Players probably. Did Not were not aware of all of the dynamics of what debt bubble Dannon. Landau was going to tell. They know that the MLS is want beat. They didn't know that a Disney up. Employees were not going to be quarantine is so now you have a whole bunch of questions from a league body. That's wondering okay. What's going on? And what are we going to do? Sky's get tested nothing. Obviously you see God like the White Howard and Kyrie Irving. Having their own issues with going back because of the protests in what's going without country from a social injustice standpoint, they have every right to stand up for what they believe in, but from an economic standpoint, the players stand to lose a lot of money. If they don't go back so I don't think there's anybody around the league right now. Thinking that July one NBA wants to come back. That date is not gonNA still be fulfilled I just think as a matter of. of WHO's going to go on the NBA has made it clear. They're not forcing anybody to go, but if you don't go, you don't get paid so if the players don't go, they just sit out. They don't get paid and I think that'll have their own form of protests. Some are voicing their concerns. That may be going would be better because of the high profile that the players would have maybe Lebron James Among those taking that stand. What do you know about that? Absolutely. That's the platform you when you down in the NBA platform and I don't think the NBA, nor espn a northerner sports which the Games will air on would have any problem with the players expressing themselves and I think if you players right now. Maybe you kind of go to the table you go to the owners, and you try to get more, and you say. Hey, listen you want us to come back. How each owner donate to some type of social injustice organization, some type of economic reform in a neighborhood. How `bout to force the owners to give back. You guys want us to go back down there. You want us to risk our lives you. You want out health to wants to go play Hibachi give back to black communities are more than which doing set initiatives aside use this platform to not only makes a Mega Stan, but use it for economic purposes, because guess what the owner Dan and make a lot of money from the NBA players coming back down and Landau and risking their lives and play.

NBA working on relationship with China after controversial tweet

"Lakers are in China Darren Shanghai right now they're gonNA play a game there Thursday morning early our time four thirty our time and then they're gonNA play another game Saturday in Chins in but there is a lot of controversy swirling around something more the rockets GM tweeted last week it would be would it be misleading to say things have calmed down but Adam silver's over there he's in Shanghai he's attempting to deal with it and it's hard to say if it's down or not the original Durham won't Daryl Morey tweet fight for freedom stand with Hong Kong and China and when I say China it's not just the government it's it's actual NBA Fans in China have responded and said they basically cancelled the Houston Rockets. Yeah I which I don't know that's fair enough but it's it's realistic they really have they shut down the Houston Rockets The Houston Rockets have been the heritage beloved team in China going back to Yao. Ming and that tweet is unbelievably incendiary in Hong Kong there's a separatist movement movement and the Chinese are and when I say the Chinese it's not just the government Chinese citizens an NBA fans in China are dead set opposed that separatist movement and so it's caused a gigantic controversy here's a little bit of what Adam Silver said about it this afternoon. CCTV announced that because of my remarks supporting Daryl Mores freedom of expression not the since of his statement but his freedom of expression they were no longer going to air the Lakers Nets preseason games that are scheduled for later this week a and it's not something we expected to happen I think it's unfortunate but if that's the the consequences of US adhering to our values we still feel it's critically important we adhere to those values my plan long has been to travel to Shanghai tomorrow and I plan to attend the Lakers Nets game Thursday night it's my hope that when I'm in Shanghai I can meet with the appropriate officials and discuss where we stand and again put those remarks from Daryl Morey and my remarks in an appropriate context of a many decades long relationship and see if we can find mutual respect for each other's political systems and beliefs but I'm a realist as well recognize that this is this this issue may not die down so quickly Daryl Morey has apologized actually James Harden also made this state apologize you know we love China we love playing near I know for both of us individually we go there wants to twice a year they show the most important love so now we appreciate as a fan base and we love everything you know they're about in in no way appreciate the support that they give us individually and as an organization so You know we love you if you're wondering why Adam Silver has is kind of taken the position that he has he is he's issued a couple of statements this was too and and you know to give us a little more background Shanghai is fifteen hours ahead of us so it's tomorrow morning in Chiang it's Wednesday morning Adam Silver's already there and he's hoping to have those meetings today in his statement that he issued on Tuesday when he was in Japan he said the NBA will not put itself in a position of regulating what players employees seasoned team owners say or will not say on these issues we simply could not operate that way so he is standing up one hundred percent for not necessarily anything Darryl said or tweeted specifically but for his right to say it yes in in that's why and then as you point out there are many many people's very upset in China and we'll see what happens next but you know Michael and I are hoping touring the Games a Thursday morning and Saturday morning it'll be four thirty am both days if you want to get up early you can listen to us or we're going to simulcast those those our call on spectrum sports net too so we're just waiting to see what happens next in the story but we're looking forward to doing those games I said earlier in the show it one thing I've learned about sports and you understand this steve better than most people because you've covered so many Olympics is sports can be a great unifier it really can it can bring people together you can you can see people jumping up and down and hugging each other we don't even speak the same languages so I I'm hoping we can play the games we can bring him to you and that cooler heads will prevail but we'll see we'll see yeah there's a lot of upset people here is Rachel Nichols who's actually in China the conflict with China top of mind for the League office the NBA is actually facing backlash on both sides here they're facing backlash from those who support the anti-government protesters in Hong Kong who feel that silver hasn't gone far enough to support rockets GM Daryl Morey but they're also facing backlash inside China from those who feel that silver has not gone far enough to condemn what more he actually said one of the loudest voices in that WHO's actually hall of Famer Yao-ming who is now the chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association Yao is one of the people but silver is hoping to meet with when he gets to China which will be on Wednesday yeah he sort of he's taking heat from both sides now sober both from both from people think he didn't go far enough to support Daryl Morey and people in China who think he didn't go far enough in condemning them here's Doc rivers this is new uh-huh doc rivers talking about what's going on with the NBA in China hit for saying what we believe we did as we disagree disagree I disagree with everything you say I have the right to do that and I have the right to Silverstone Tom and that's good that's good that's what this is about freedom of speech and and we should always have who consequences for what you say and that's why we get back to the Lincoln Body before you say there could be possibly and that's by the way what we're seeing we're seeing enormous consequences for Daryl Morey exercise his freedom speech and as of now Darryl still the GM of the rockets tillman for t- to the owner of the rockets came out right away soon as Daryl tweeted that and said he doesn't speak with Iraq it's he doesn't speak for the NBA. I have no problem with Daryl does her his personal views I don't think they're gonNA lose his job over this we we shared with you earlier in the show if you don't listen to US regularly we uh-huh Darryl he's been a guest on this show probably ten times he's one of the reasons he's crazy we'll talk about anything and so Adam standing behind him and saying look whether you agree with what Tara said or not he has the right to say it I think probably means I was going to hang onto his GIG but I'm speculating I don't know yeah a lot of that came up over the weekend and it seemed to calm down a little bit but again this story is continuing to unfold and we don't exactly know how it's going to turn out when all is said and done what will the relationship between China Chinese fans in the Houston Rockets be what will the relationship between China Chinese fans in the NBA be how will the be altered how will that be changed in any way we don't exactly know where it seems to me the one of the things that will be important as if Adam silver can sit down with the Ming who is a great ambassador for Basketball Chairman of Chinese basketball so that could go a long way in mending the damage that has been

NBA exploring options to shorten schedule, add mid-season cup and postseason play-in tournament, per report

"This thing popped out on wednesday with the n._b._a. and i laughed because you start to read a little deeper into the kevin arnovitz from e._s._p._n. reports and it just doesn't make much sense and i'm not saying kevin arnovitz doesn't make much sense he makes a lot of sense it's just the n._b._a.'s going full n._f._l. right now and making tweaks and changes or at least proposing that's probably the operative word here some tweaks and changes about what to do in the twenty twenty one twenty twenty two season the seventy fifth anniversary year and it's like because it's the seventy fifth anniversary year day adam silver and the n._b._a. front office i guess owners feel compelled to introduce a ton of changes and it's just a lie lot all at once and i don't think that it's going to be totally overwhelming because you know the people that are looking at this like the purest so the ones that are thinking never gonna watch it again the n._b._a. doesn't care about you if your response to the change right now as well i'm not gonna watch any more than the n._b._a.'s clearly ready to move on and i have to be honest that's a something of a successful league okay that's a sign of an entire league not organization not one franchise but league that's able to just say okay we've got somebody disgruntled sir of disgruntled customer doesn't matter were that big we have that much going on right now that we can allow somebody to just simply walk but you look at what's going on i think a lot of it stems from the raptors successfully resting kawai leonard that not impacting anything clearly in the postseason one thing and i guess at the start is they want to reduce the number of games they want to change the schedule from eighty two and limited i magic sixty six is a name that's thrown around there but in kevin arnovitz this report a committee that consists of approximately a dozen top team executives from both basketball and business operations discussed with the league office ideas for alternatives to the traditional n._b._a. schedule for that twenty one twenty two season sources characterize a wide ranging brainstorming session with accompanying documents participants contemplated how the n._b._a. could introduce the f. for mentioned tournaments get to that in a second because arnovitz mentions it earlier in the report i did not mention it yet To accommodate all these additional events, according to those with knowledge of the conversation. Sources regard as very exploratory the proposed reforms would be adopted initially as a pilot program, the NBA would have the chance to observe the trial run, and so on in quote. so one thing the n._b._a. wants to do which the n._f._l. has been trying to do which i don't know how long it's going to be before major league baseball realizes they must do this is tweaked the schedule now the n._f._l. wants to expand but same thing tweaking the schedule so for the n._b._a. the biggest problem that there could have right now by shortening that schedule like if you go from eighty two to sixty six guess what you just lost some games you lost revenue you lost gate so what they want to do is create a champion sleek what they want to do is create some midseason tournament where i guess you would remove the all star game and maybe have that at the end of the year i don't know what you would do that or maybe have that in lieu of but you really wouldn't have the best of the best playing in this midseason tournament i don't know what the actual reward would be but in order to get your top players playing in that mid season tournament the reward would have to be some sort of seating in the playoffs and then that would negate i think the regular season so this whole thing just doesn't really make much sense because if you want to go to eighty two or let's say to sixty six from eighty two games you know that you need to make up those games you know you need to make it up and you can't just do it with sponsors from the on add on jersey ads throughout the arenas you just can't do that you're going to need to do something else that's why they've created or at least propose this mid season tournament idea at according to this report teams would play for a second separate title as i mentioned we've seen in european soccer and i told you the champions league so that the idea here is that they're going to raise enough money for this tournament with broadcast rights and everything else sold separately as part of it and that offsets the loss the n._b._a. the larry o'brien trophy is looked at as the end all beal now i got a credit the n._f._l. it's not like the n._f._l. just created a new lombardi trophy or a second trophy because they know how foolish that would be the n._b._a. nobody could do this nobody is just capable of doing this and the n._b._a. is not nearly as powerful as the n._f._l. so i don't know what the hell's going on here but it doesn't make much sense that they think that this play in tournament of the playoffs combined with this midseason tournament you keep adding tournaments you keep adding these round robin these playing type tournaments to offset revenue but the reality is that nobody cares about a trophy unless it's the end of the year trophy unless it's the how many rings does that guy have compared to lebron james or michael jordan nobody's gonna start factoring in midseason tournament rings when you talk about well does he have to six that jordan has what technically the guy won three n._b._a. championships putt let's be honest he's won four straight midseason n._b._a. classics who freaking cares if that's the case nobody's going to look at that like it's serious nobody's gonna look at that and attribute it's anybody's legacy it's the same thing it would be looked at similarly like he got voted into an all star team why guys made seven straight all star games yeah because he's one of the most popular players in the n._b._a. even though he's only played a combined forty games over the last five years but hey people vote in and we still put a lot of weight on that this thing is bizarre adam silver talking about changing and tweaking and adding things and they believe that if there are fewer games there would be a higher emphasis or at least more emphasis put by the teams of value on the regular season just overall these changes i get shortening the season if you wanna short season that's a good premise it's a good theory but i don't know how you put it into action when you're actually looking to offset the revenue loss which is why major league baseball has not gone from one sixty to

Rockets GM Daryl Morey Talks Draft

"My next guest is a guy who I've gotten over the last couple of years, and he's terrific at his job, and he's always been kind enough to call him to the show and he's calling into the show of the night after the NBA draft in which by the way, his Houston Rockets were the only team to do nothing. A Miami obviously, something was happening, I soon, but no activity, no picks acquired no picks traded no players drafted. That's the Houston Rockets, general manager, Daryl Morey, how are you Daryl? Happy birthday. Thanks, brother. Mocking to compete with your other guests today. Holy cow. No, no. You're what we call a newsmaker Daryl Maury you're on. News. We, we had lots of news and then did nothing first time ever, we, we've, I think it's first time we've ever had a picks crazy. What? So what did you do last night? Daryl? Probably made one million phone call so with our staff even and it's, it's pretty amazing. How many things you work on to how things get done the number of deals? You talk about versus nine we got real close to one where basically basically pick had got a certain way early in the draft, we would have gotten it, and if not we wouldn't so that was crazy. And then the second round had a lot more demand than usual like, the, the pick for flying around, but we usually try to buy one but none were ball yesterday. They're all attached to second round pick. So so we, we weren't able to get in. All right. So walk through again. The best you can without, I guess giving away, whatever store, you're you don't want, you want to keep in house. So the top of the draft, you're interested in a pick at the top of the draft, Daryl. Was that it was in the early twenties? Okay. And basically it was on the clock. Everything had been agreed to and we're counting has never happened to me before we were counting down the seconds and just said, hey, if, if this guy goes, then we have a deal, but otherwise, we do and usually I've had that happened a lot. And I've never had happened where the guy went right one pick before. So anyone who's been in fantasy football leagues knows what it feels like. So you, you wanted a guy and then the team you had to deal for that guy if it fell to the team that you had struck a deal for, but the team right before took player wanted. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Okay. So you never know sometimes these deals reconstitute later. We'll see did this deal that didn't take place on your part require you to give up a player on your current roster or future considerations would have involved involved a roster and draft pick. So but you know. Yeah. These things all the time they get close. It's just one had never gotten this close before. So pretty pretty crazy. Daryl more rockets, general manager, why do you think there is so much demand in the second round? This is just a normal draft like pretty solid players, but nothing special deep but I think other teams sought his deeper. So I think there's a lot of activity trade in. There's also the probably boring listeners, but the capris and that a lot of teams are trying to jump into the second round this year as well in the second round pick pick contractor cheaper than others. And it and it allows you to maneuver under the capital easier. Sometimes. Well, I mean, I think it's interesting to, to the viewers and listeners of the show, Daryl because there's so much conversation being taking place about that. Anthony Davis trae, but the Lakers and whether the Lakers, did, the, the right do diligence and figuring out when's the best time to strike a deal or want to make it official because of the cap space that you can offer free agent, etc. Etc. How, how does that? How do you keep track of all those things? Very complicated. Santa Rosa gone pretty Houston. I think I'm in my fourteen to fifteen th year. So you get you get comfortable. You also have really good people around you like we do and most teams to and yeah, I mean, the rules action at this point, make no sense whatsoever. And we've talked to league office about it in the league office wouldn't say has bought Lee as I said it. But basically, the overtime the Kluge is have been have been wrapped upon. The Kluge is have been wrapped deposit Niklas. I mean it's like the all the rules, they set up made sense in the nineties, eighties and two thousands when they originally were put in, but then as time goes by they have to plug holes and gaps and to go shit, and with the players union, and, and over time the rules really have morphed into something that makes almost no sense if you look at it holistically, so I'll tell you one thing that makes very little sense for a lot of fans. And I guess, Daryl Morey rockets, general manager, you're good guy to ask about this. Are all the picks? They were twenty five of the sixty picks last night. The picks were take made by teams that were not picking the player for themselves. They were taking for another team for whom they've already made a deal. And sometimes that, that, that, right? Got transferred to another team. That makes a deal and it is so confusing. It it's, it's really like my friends who wanna follow our team and why it's just it's just impossible, and the nights when he picks and trades and, and they're out is it doesn't have to be that way. What the NBA is still allow is tentative deals, be announced, and the NFL does that I know. And there's really no reason not to accept, you might have the occasional error where a deal falls through and because of that guy something it's announced that has to be, you know, backtrack. But that's way less bad than the entire universe watching our draft, not understanding. What's happening? So I think we need to relax those rules a little bit. And let teams announce their deals like they do in the NFL so that the telecast, people aren't putting on the run hats and stuff like that. What about the idea Daryl of maybe moving the draft to after free agency? Would you be good with something like that? No, that's, that's an interesting concept as well. That we've, we've. Discussed the league other other sports do that. You have no no other sports. Well, I think NFL does that. So, yeah, no, it's I think it's I think it's totally fine. I, I would slightly prefer, I think of the draft after because a lot of the lot of the trades, we, we make a draft picks we have to make tentative later for free agency. And, and then that creates complexity. So, yeah, I would probably I'd probably put the draft after I. Yeah. There are trade-offs the age Sounes less clear that, that answers less.

Rockets audited '18 Game 7, say Finals bid taken

"But we're talking about the rockets and their audit of the last game of last year there that they played game seven of the Western Conference finals with Golden State. Now what I kind of insane, listen, if you're Houston, you got to suck the sup you've got to be able to just get past it. But I wonder what the overall purpose of this was again, you're right. What were they looking for? They weren't would they try to get them to take away the championship from the warriors. Probably not without question. They probably knew that. That's not gonna happen when they try to make the league understand where they were coming from that might be the case, right? Are they trying to get the league to understand how the officials are affecting the games and try to have them do a better job. Yes. But I think Ron you made a good point that the problem with that is what where do you want the? Eyeballs of the league to be on right? If let's say the rockets are saying look there were eighty one possible non calls in this game seven from last year. We're only bringing it to your attention. So that you have the officials make sure they pay attention to what's going on in this series. We're only doing we don't care that they won the finals we accept the loss. But we're doing it to remind you haywar in this again and don't let this happen again. You know, we know Golden State's really fun popular team around the country. But you know, what eighty one non calls are are really agree GIS? Okay. That makes sense. Don't you think Sacramento number two thousand two Western Conference finals? Everyone. The Lakers went to the free throw line like twenty seven times in the fourth quarter. You don't think the Sacramento Kings would love to have an audit situation. I'm sure I'm sure they let the NBA. No. That that that was a game six it was before. I'm sure they let the the NBA know that L teams do this. But he does look like you're whining a little bit. But maybe maybe this is the only way you can make your make your point the league office to pay attention what the officials are doing. But what exactly do you want them to do? Okay. We'll watch you guys closer. But then we are watching warriors close to and maybe Iran's, right? Maybe there was eighty one possible non calls. But if they didn't watch for the warriors, maybe there's seventy eight non calls for the warriors or ninety. We don't do because this report by by. Houston says eighty one are the warriors gonna pay people to sit in a room and go over game seven and go out could have been a call. Here could have been a call there, by the way. Do we want our games officiated like that think of this that game seven against Golden State last year? Are the rockets saying they would've wanted eighty one more whistles in that game. Now, I know this is an old argument. Believe me, I get it. It's an old argument. Do you want everything called or do you want some things called or important things called the game bogged down, but we don't want a free for all either. You know, we need we need. We need an officiating purge. What I mean by that, you know, the movies the purge everyone's allowed just one night to go out and do everything there's no law. And so everyone gets those the bad tendencies, those bad thoughts, and they get to act on them. And that makes for a better society. Right. I don't know how that's possible. But it does in the movies. So maybe we need -ficiating purge. Maybe we just need one night where the refs call everything. Yeah. Just to see what it would be lies to see what it'd be like. Yeah. Everybody goes on watchable basketball. I cannot believe they're five hundred whistles blown because I mean, if we really want to get down to 'cause we you can't have you can't have it both ways. You can't have a you know, you need to call fouls. Hey, you need to. Let the kids play, you know, that whole thing. Just I would love your just to just to lay to rest if we called every single little tiny ticky tacky foul. Let's do a one game one. And then you'll see it, by the way, the rockets just reiterate did not send this memo to the league that communicated. The message in person they did claim, of course, because they probably realized on a piece of paper, which probably look stupid probably said, oh, let's talk about this instead of marching there with briefcases and suits. Yeah. Right. Thumb bumba. They also claim the trip to the finals would have netted at least twenty million dollars in additional revenue. I'm sure the NBA just listen, she'll just relax just chill for a second. Stop stops. We get it. You want the officiating better stop telling us how much money you lost. Because of it. -ficiating purge thing. I think you

"No now, there's report from the athletic that says the league office awards the listen to this. This is really odd. The league office awards the team that keeps the salaries the lowest orchestration a WWE style championship belt, sell you the Bill as disrespectful to the players and the process while the league said, quote, it's just an information recognition of those clubs departments. That did the best. This is a weird one, by the way, Tony Clark, the executive executive director of the NFL the need glass. Yeah. Yup. Issued the following statement in response to the store that I just referenced quote that clubs that clip. I got that clubs make a sports. I'll I'll add in. What's not said the fact that clubs make a sport of trying to suppress salaries and a process designed to produce fair settlement shows the blatant lack of respect for our players the game and the arbitration process

"Missed by New Orleans. Yeah. And I think there are owner. Gale Benson has missed out on an opportunity to take a stand for her team. And for all small market teams in the NBA. Anthony Davis one of the best players in the NBA publicly demanded a trade. And now the NBA is trying to bully her and threatened her with unduly harsh fines. And if I was her. I would say I'll pay the fine. But at the end of the day, I'm going to do what's best for my franchise. I'm not gonna put him out there at risk for injury and reduce mice lottery chances or my trade opportunities. I think the league is wrong. I think they should allow door Orleans to to exactly what is best for them. Because everybody else is doing what's best for themselves. Anthony Davis and the league let the pelicans do. What's best for them? What is Van Gundy? Referring to Brian Windhorst reporting. The NBA told the pelicans that if they sat a healthy Davis. The team could be subject to a one hundred thousand dollar fine for every game. He did not play time for straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones, best networks, no contracts. Whoa. Gin Wigmore Waie has to play down the stretch. The league office did get involved in they inform. The pelicans that if they did sit a healthy Davis. They will be subject to potential game by game fines for the rest of the season one hundred thousand dollars a game. So there's twenty some games left. He'll be two point something million potentially. Ultimately, I think the pelicans came to a decision that they wanted to do the right thing. That's just under the league rules. But they wanted to do what they have described as the ethical thing which is to play Anthony Davis. So he's not gonna play every game. He's gonna play tonight. It's a home game. We'll see what the reaction is. Then tomorrow, they're in Memphis. The intention is to sit him. He's not gonna play him back to backs his minutes reduced.

"No. And I think really when when you look at this as a whole, and I think the league has look at it that players are taught to protect each other and incidents happened like that we have certain jobs, maybe the twelve man on the team. Maybe you're the captain. Well, if I'm the capital, are you the captain then we have to respond to incidents like this. Whether it's the go and try to keep players on the floor of what have you? So I think this incident with with yolk it, he basically felt like his leadership to probably with seed CJ McCollum. Yes. I am. Okay with but probably even with CJ is like, I'm the captain. I meet the ref before the game. Like gimme some space to rally my pull them back. And I think the league has really pulled back on this because I see this sometime guys stand up. It's nothing more than a speeding ticket. Thank you. You can't. Go that deep into these players pocket for incidents like. It's not lost in the league office at the nuggets are playing the on tonight that I it was not lost on them. I'm almost sympathetic to the league on this. Because there everything is with the malice in the palace in mind and just the any escalation of anything. They're paranoid about it. And it's easy to say. Well, he doesn't do anything. But if the wrong player on the jazz sees Yokich coming at him in a way that is a little bit aggressive like something happens. I just I do think it's worth the league in the union sitting down and trying to find is there a way we can rewrite this rule that eases it up for players who really just just sort of stand up and take one step. I just need to see what that would look like it's ten because it usually happens a lot closer to one bench than another. So you are baiting almost the players on the bench where it's happening right in front of because as you say Scotty, your instinct is you're seeing this happen right in front of you. It's two feet from you. You wanna protect your guy. Help your guy get in there and the guys on the other end of the court. By nature. I mean running across the court is totally different. Great distinction could right back into the rule. And so that, but my point is that like, I think the guys on the other bench on the opposite side of the court. They know in their head even if they take Steph or two they're not gonna all the way down the court. That's a big deal. So they're already have like a natural disinclination not to do it. It's the guys at the venture right in front of. And I think maybe if it happens in front of your bench, you get those two steps look where the three point line is. Maybe it's if you don't cross the three point arc rate. You're okay there you've got to take human nature into accounts. Gotta I think your point about especially the leaders on the team CJ McCollum, Damian Lillard as you point out. They do a lot of stuff official sort of business at the game sort of you know, when when there's pictures to be taken with fans when that like once a month, they bring the sponsors out before a game that kind of thing, they're the ones who go do it. So there is a little bit of that national. At least able to stand up. See what's going on not as the players. It's the bag. You know, even the fans stands up. Yeah. Mike Malone, by the way, top three in my top three of coaches to break up a fight in an MBA game loan is tough. You see them getting there? He's got involved in. Yeah. Jammed goes coming up the near times is reporting that the Knicks are making some of their top players available for trade. Who's should be buyers of the Knicks assets our borders coming back on the job. I can't wait buyers and sellers stick with us..

"Idea. I'm just saying that's all those are not out of an innocent, man. So stop playing everybody out. Sorry. Sorry. Radio. I'm just saying this is this is the fact that the situation there's a better argument. And let me just explain what the concern is. Patriots fans are upset that click blatant is refereeing. The game on Sunday. Not because he was the referee of the Deflategate game wall. Anderson was they're upset because Clete Blake men was one of the alternate officials who actually put the gauge into the footballs to measure the amount of air pressure at halftime of the Deflategate game from four years ago and the easier point without re-litigating deflate gate, and I disagree with a lot of what you're saying. Because ultimately, the findings should have been that the science renders everything inconclusive at all should have been thrown out. It was impossible to come to any real and binding decisions on what was happening, regardless of all that Klay Blackman just stuck the gauge does he says if the patriots were victimized by the league office, and I believe they were and if I think the, and I also believe that. Ted wells was hired with an outcome in mind that has nothing to do with Clete Blake. All he did on that day was put the gauge in the ball and say what the gauge read he was a very very small player, and he had a very very defined but had nothing to do with trying to frame the patriots. That's where I thought that was going to go. I didn't know it was going to be. Well, listen, I. Tom Brady, our boss. Sam flood is a very big pagers fan. And I was afraid he might fire me on the spot of. I went down that worm hall. So there's still time. I was sweating it out already recommended that he do. Oh, he's not listening to you. But he did send me a text and say, you're fired. How dare you? Twelve. So I might be done after this show everyone. Well, let's make it. Well, let's make it count. Then. All right. Let's see I got one more that I want to get to and and what? John Elway earlier this week talking to Peter King. He had some comments about his experiences in hiring coaches. And and here's what he said about Vance Joseph. I was wrong on that one. I don't like to say it out loud because I don't want to offend Vance. Who is a good football coach. But things didn't work out. I mean, anytime there's something that you say and you follow it by saying, I don't want to say that out loud. Probably a good indication. You shouldn't have said it. And trust me, I've been there. And there have been plenty of things that I've set out loud, knowing I shouldn't say it. But thinking what the hell I wanna have some fun. Yeah. Plenty of other times it just comes out. And it's like, I probably shouldn't be saying this. But I really don't think especially in this setting because it wasn't alive recorded interview. And I'm sure that after the fact he could have gone to Peter and said, you know, that thing I told you about Vance Joseph let let me let me give you something else there because why what's the point? Why are you dumping on Vance Joseph? Why are you making him look worse than getting fired already makes him look worse. And there's a chance at some point John. I always going to be hiring another head coach. Maybe he knows though in his heart. He's not going to be that Vic Fangio is it that he's gonna ride or die with Vic Fangio because of the coaches he's hired and the quarterbacks he's acquired. But I thought it was a bad look. And and I think John Elway knows it's bad luck. And I think he should have intervened before this went to print and gotten Peter King to revise it because nobody benefits from him taking taking that that shot at Vance Joseph. On the way out the door. Yeah. I know. But at the same time, I don't know if I necessarily took it as a shot like, you're right. He could be rephrased it better and said something else he said right after he offended him by. No. So that's hard to defend. But I think he was trying to take accountability to himself more than anything. That's where I would defend John in that. He's trying to say I messed up there were warning signs there. And I still went ahead with it. When I knew there were certain questions that bothered me. So I give them credit for being transparent there. Yes. But I think there's maybe a better way he could have got that point across and after the point is made in after you realize in your heart that maybe you shouldn't have gone there. There are ways to work with the reporter and and try to massage a little bit. So so you don't have to deal with that on the on the back end. All right. We're going to take a break. We'll return we want to bring back the comments from Jerry Jones, let you hear them again, and you can come to your own conclusions. We've come to ours. As to what Jerry Jones may be thinking about. What he may be doing with his head coach as soon as next week more after this..

"Service stuff. Right. Like you see in auto coaches, I'm sideline in their green. You know, like their army green type stuff to hoodies or whatever it is. And Bella check doesn't really do that. It doesn't really do. He doesn't do it at all. Yeah. And so bell Jack was asked why he does not wear the salute to service attire. You know, the stuff that you seem to coaches wearing the camouflage type stuff the army, green or whatever. And so I'm kind of surprised somebody as Bella check this. But this answer. I don't know man usually wear the same thing for every game. I mean, not the same thing, but dependent on the weather and so forth. Every game. Change based on. Is. Services, look military, and the jobs our servicemen and women do and sacrifices that they make are very important to name. I family always have always will be. Always wanna recognize those. So. Jackson. The with what anybody else does. The. Sweatshirt. Gordon tonight is what? What your actions are what you do. Try to make those count. Yeah. So a couple of things to no one is that people have long said that bell Jake is not fond of the NFL league office initiative league office since down he'll try to find some way to avoid or someway to not do because he's not with it. But this one I think was interesting, and I thought it was a good question. Because Bella check his dad worked at the naval academy and people who things about him like the military servicemen women and all of that. That's a really really big thing to him. And so one would think that he would be all in on what it is that the NFL is doing with the civil service. And so I found it interesting that he basically without saying, so he basically looked at that and wearing that in his like and. That's the that's that felt like the conclusion that he reached in looking at people doing all of that where he just looking up at. And he's just like I mean. And. As over me this kind of stands out. And if you've been listening to these shows that I've done for a while. This is a kind of a point that I make all the time. Usually around Veterans Day, I suppose that this is probably has a podcast of this format that will do before Veterans Day. So I guess it all ties together in that way. But I always feel an I'd I don't do enough myself on this actual cause. So I'm not really finger pointing in that way. But I do think that there is a kind of logic thought process that we need to think about as we do this which is. We collectively do a lot of like thank you for your service right needed. A little discount on your meal at golden corral. Oh, you know, along those lines with things that the gopher life, salute service and people really get into it in though, the where you know, where the coup shirts where are Baz the camouflage come flaws and everything like that. You know, as you know, this let them know we're thinking about them and stuff like that. And I've I've not talked to a lot of, you know, folks in the military about like how they feel about that I found the response that I've gotten about it is kind of mixed where there's certainly an appreciation for the acknowledgement and kind of, you know, this is ultimately a harmless form of it. No matter how you look at it. And so there's impregnation that comes for that. But also just kind of like, what are we really doing here? Because like I was looking at those those those hoodies. The coaches were wear and so they'll have like the two things like where the name plates are. And once is New Orleans and the other one says saints that's one Sean Payton head on. And I mean like is that are we honor of people or is that like Qasr play..

"That's hot spot. Hot potato hot seat, very very deft. Very very non obvious. Segue. Hot potato for the NFL linebacker, Michael kendricks and the speed with which the Browns dumped him last month after he admitted to insider trading led me to believe that this guy's not playing in the NFL anymore because I had thought and suspected and assumed that the end result of a day of discussions between the Browns and the league office with the league office realizing, you know, what we can't put this guy in the Commissioner exempt list because the Commissioner examples there's only available for people who commit crimes of violence. There's nothing we can do. This guy's gonna be eligible to practice in play because under the personal conduct policy. We can't keep him off the field until number one. We impose discipline and number two the appeal process runs its course. So the easiest thing to do is just cut him and hope everyone shuns him and. Roundabout way. The fact that the Seahawks have now reportedly signed kendricks to a one year deal one week after he pleaded guilty to federal insider trading charges for which he faces up to twenty five years in prison. Now, I've heard the more realistic sentences thirty to thirty six months. But the fact that the Seahawks did it. That would tend to cut against the idea that collusion is a constant occurrence doesn't mean there wasn't collusion with Colin cabinet or greed. But if there was collusion with Michael kendricks, obviously, the Seahawks don't sign unless the Seahawks called the league office and said, hey, we're thinking about signing this guy is that. Okay. And they said, okay. I doubt that though why did they want a guy in the league that is facing federal insider trading charges, unless they think people aren't going to get up in arms about it. Victimless crime is what most people think, although it's really not victimless in regardless. It's a crime a crime, the victims are all people who are trying to earn money by making investments without having the benefit of insider information insider information, it's cheating. Period. You're cheating. Those who are trying to to work the system properly. You're trying to rig the system hashtag rigged, you're trying to rig it. So I asked the league last night. Essentially what's going on? And leaks spokesman Brian McCarthy. Toby via Email, the matter is under review kendricks, currently permitted to sign and participate in activities, including games, and he will be allowed to continue to do that number one as long as he's still employed because you know, if you're not employed by team, it's kind of hard to. Participate. But the the NFL will I assume I assume this falls under the personal conduct policy. The language is brought enough and why wouldn't it? I mean, if you're going to have a personal conduct policy, and if you're gonna freak out about guys who smoke marijuana in their spare time now that falls under a separate policy. But if you are going to regulate the off field behavior of your players, I assume that if you engage in any conduct that subjects you to a felony guilty plea and a sense of up to twenty five years in prison. You're probably on the wrong side. Of the NFL's personal conduct policy. I would say that I would say it's safe to say, you you you have a problem with the league office. So I don't know how long Michael kendricks is going to be available for the Seahawks. But this is not a good look for the league at a time. When Colin Kaepernick can't get a job anywhere. Even though there are still plenty of bad quarterbacks to go around, and he violated, no laws of any kind people. Just don't like him. I was surprised to see this development. And look that mindset, you know, from the hawks perspective. Hey, we're just trying to win games. Go out and get the best players because we're trying ruin games. And they were the team. I don't wanna make this about cabinet. But let me make it about cabinet the Seahawks were the team that brought him in for a visit earlier this year, or no they were going to remember that stats. They brought him in for a visit last year this year they were bringing them in. And there was that very bizarre. An awkward, well we wanted to have a conversation with him about the anthem and from his perspective. The argument was that they wanted him to commit that. He wouldn't Nieto during the anthem. They acknowledged there was some sort of discussion that was along the lines of well, we just want to know what his plan is. Well, why do you care what his plan? This plan shouldn't matter plans his plan. It's unrelated to his football abilities. And the same team that was worried about Colin Kaepernick and want to know what his plan is during the anthem. They bring in a guy who currently has a plan for you know. Where he's going to be which prison is he going to be in. Hey, what's your plan for prison? I don't know wherever they locked me up. Okay. That sounds good. You can play football with us until then. It's just a strange disconnect. There. Very strange. Brit Sunday a game still to come the the biggest game of the day. The AFC championship game rematch. We'll get you ready for that. When PF continues right after this. NBC sports radio update starts now. Bingles made. It look easy in Cincinnati. I'm rob Bush. When's the last time the Bengals started.

Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones ready to make some noise

"You feel and and President Trump is convinced you and a lot of you echoed what he said that guys that are Neely are being disrespectful to the country to the flag until the military. Even though that's not the case, even though they've told you why they're Neely, Jerry doesn't care scale all care about is money. And if it doesn't make him money or he feels it might stop him or prevent him for making absorbent amount of money because he's making money, but Jerry field, this might stop him in some way because he's still gets. Pushback this, even though this policy might go in the playoffs Steele might be allowed to kneel. At least I was pushing back. He can always fall back on that and the fans will stay with Jerry. One of them saying it was just the league, voted him and this what the players are allowed to do. So he'll always have that in his back pocket. If he loses the final, the final vote. But I am so disappointed, but I'm not surprised here reacted like this. So I'm going to reiterate to everyone wants more. I know Jerry very well. You could say all too well, I spent literally hundreds of hours interviewing him for three books that I wrote on the Dallas Cowboys one on the Tom Landry Cowboys. One on the Jerry, Jimmy Cowboys. One on the Jerry Switzer Cowboys that somehow in spite of itself won the Super Bowl. I don't often agree with Jerry's politics or his stances on lots of things, or he's worldview or sort of his perceptions. But I do respect one thing about Jerry, Jerry is who Jerry and he will let you know between your is exactly what he thinks and he doesn't care what you think. He's just going to tell you what he thinks and that I do respect that. He just is going to lay it right on the line that my players who collect the checks that I saw are going to literally toe that line as in, they're going to stand for the national anthem with their toes. On my line, it's my, it's called Jerry world. This guy nickname, but with toes on the outta balanced line along their sideline, your toes, you're going to be up on the line. You're not going to be back on the bench. You're going to stand. This is this is a decree from above in what. Did he call the big media session that he did yesterday, he calls it his state of the union, his annual state of the union as training camp opens out in Oxnard, California, not all that far from where we're sitting right now because he is the president owner and operator of the Dallas Cowboys. And he operates. Well. Argue he operates that way because these are his decrees for this year. This is how he feels about the end. He doesn't care what any other owner things. He doesn't care about the ongoing dialogue between the legal fishing, the players association. This is his policy. And originally it was said that each teen could sort of operate its policy the way each team one voted on his Gill. Okay, but, but within the confines of those rule, right, which was insane to me if you want to protest, you can stay in the locker room, right? Neil Bryant them. You can save you if you come out and you have them. But if you don't want to, you can stay in the locker. It was insane. Wasn't gonna work, and now it's not going to work because they're back to the drawing board trying to come up with a new idea. But in the end with Jerry, he's not going to hide what he thinks. He's not going to camouflage what he thinks and he's not going to do what Mike Brown had just done is the owner of the Cincinnati Bengals the day before, what am I Brown say? I was in St.. Acted by the league office not to comment anymore about our anthem. Paul's because there is ongoing dialogue. Well, that's the politically correct thing. Say I have to stand down. That's what might Brown said the Jerry standout. Did he care what anybody else said? What not improbably league wanted the owners not to comment because if they don't comment, maybe someone else won't comment, but we know that's not gonna stop when there's controversy swirling around daily. So I want to be very clear about this, but this is the one thing I appreciate about Jerry Jones. You know exactly who he is, who he's not..

"The heart of the issue you know i think anyone who is a football fan is going to absolutely loved this movie though all that said one of the most interesting things to me that had shed a light on in considering work here at the patriots are in the super bowl just how successful they've all been was robert kraft and you could tell just how absolutely incensed he was at that not only the new york jets folk really the league office holds the league office accountable for trying to orchestrate getting bill parcells back to the new york jets because he believed that the league office this had a vested interest in making a team in new york good making the jets good getting parcels back to new york that he says in the in the documentary this is the first time i learned not to trust the league office could just all the sense at that moment why he has such state not only be wunderlich what he actually sucked down to taper quick when he actually did the but also made me realise about why robert kraft than wanted to get involved in so many of the highprofile committees bitter he was a guy who is very influential in the tv deals he was on one who had really had the aarebrot ear of roger goodell for still until recently you know their relationship was super tight i think he realized hey i need to work this better like i need to be the guy who's in the ear of the commissioner so instead of people saying hey i need a favoured new york they want to favour the new england patriots owner the other one here's a tough thing for the joke further here is when they talk about parcells leaving and he decides to resign when they get the facts from the patriots asking for permission to interview belo chuck parcels gets it wrong downstairs calls the code meeting of the staff he resigns because he wants bell check the be the the jetsgo parts designs on the spot on the spot did a really quickly so that pella check couldn't go and curtis and so bella check kids up leaving we know the hoping curtis martin says at the.

"You know he is i mean i think we'll have a couple of options deal nfl office would be one option on the competition committee surely work in the league office will be something that would make sense for him um and uh that would be one and you know i think being in personnel is something that he would really like um i talked about a last weekend so uh i think that's probably better off job these into go via coordinator anywhere uh as far as being a head coach charlie possible uh but i'll probably not characterize that is likely let's wrap it up new wig lynnwood this curious story do you know why tom brady's longtime trainer a business associate alex guerrero's no longer allowed to be on the patriots sidelined or travel on the team played i think a better question is why was it allowed to begin with uh i i don't feel any other instance where a player's personal trainer slash friend is allowed any of those things you know he has an office in july at which is truly surprising um you know he is allowed it was a lot of people ages all black read that those are the kinds of privileges they're not allowed from any uh so i was surprised at this whole thing and uh you know the fact that it's sort of back to normal and he's being treated like everyone else his personal trainer uh is not uh you know it major space it brings it back to the status quo would of course i can understand why turkey would want to side with the road medical people their own trainers that's why they have them there to work with the players um those kind of odd situation but i really they can be fought great information as always look forward to chatting with you on sunday when we get to nfl forcing go on to new premium thanks ian all right thanks crash you're listening to win in film no.

"Our legal analyst ryan smith joins us on the shell pennzoil performance on a ryan we're gonna throw a little bit of a curveball here because i the original plan dan at was to have you want to ask you some of the questions about the fbi investigation into angie aa basketball coach is that we will get to that but with this coming up here this morning and some of the president's most recent comments on fox news i would ask you this if the national football league office slash the owners decide i'd they want to implement a rule that states that players must stand before the national anthem rather than it being suggested in the game operations manual but they wanted just unit unilaterally make this a rule canvey and what legal recourse with the union or the players have if they strongly opposed it it okay so the first thing is earlier in the week i asked the nfl hey would you ever imposed penalties if for example the protests went on for too long or somebody did something out of the round what we're seeing right now they didn't want to go there they didn't want to deal with that kind of hypothetical and it makes sense because you don't know where that's going to go what they could do is under the collective bargaining agreement you would argue that they couldn't do that that they could make a rule this is again a contract between two parties they could make a rule saying hey you have to stand or you can find what could the players do they could try to drag this kind of thing into federal court is constitutional argument i don't know how successful they would be because they of not all the different things you can find players over right now different things from different gestures thing fit in society we could do but in the nfl you cannot do.

"Do you see the that that could be a trend that's it you know upcoming the season with quarterbacks mean could you see brady being flagged by the actual league office and taken out of a game um you know just because of the way that they're going to tree quarterbacks a season there you know the security of those guys that a premium level at this point especially right waded in boston university report comes out were they say it on ninety nine out of one hundred players have some form of brain damage have played football and john or so i think his name is retire hamad ravens because of a smart kid it really had probably some other things going on outside of football but this latest decision easy four i i think this really is going to be a huge factor because the commission they're gonna be watching games in the league office and just hypothetically you know the verse no record that that brady had any concussions because they never reported any and i'm not disputing to sell and i'm not the speeding anything and i montana sterren anything up here what i'm simply saying this this quarterbacks gonna be watched closely by the league office and because there's communication between new york city and those game fields it's easy for them the buzz in and say hey standing neutral send the neutral physician and just check out the quarterback okay yeah because if goodell was responsible for player safety that's something he has to do you can say it's not fair you could say it's not right now if you look at a player and we've often watch games we've often seen quarterbacks faces and we've also seen guys like got looks hurt even always plant it's happened all the time but they see that they have a duty to at least ask it and i think that's one of the things that that teams have to have two quarterbacks because because of this mechanism that they have now it's also going to be to protect the quarterbacks and i think what you're gonna see is a guy like cam newton gets hurt like the cam newton hit in the opening game against denver everybody knew he got hit hard okay he stayed on the field if that play happens again.
