And I just think she's going to fit so perfectly into what latoya Sanders did. She will roll more, I think latoya popped a little bit more. And she's never ever played with spacing like this. And I think it will really allow her to take over that latoya Sanders role of hitting wide open baseline jumpers and posting up mismatches. So I think those two things on offense are going to be so huge for her and the fact that she can learn from the player that she's pretty much taking over for is massive and I'm really excited that she can also on the defensive end, be seen providing the value that she does, right? Like her room protection is legit in my opinion. Her length is going to be huge for this team. And I think that's just something that happens in basketball and you have to kind of change the way you talk to folks like that. And I think that has turned into Minnesota kind of leading the league and honoring their vets in leisha Clare and then Sylvia fowles and that angel McCartney. I think she's going to get that shine that she deserves. "I think even the CEO games joked about how long it took him to add the S to write games. But then I think he was the end of 2020 when they announced or 2019 every year. But they announced 7 new games, right? So these things take time and it's super hard. And I think outside looking in, it looks like, oh yeah, these companies are printing money, the successful ones they are, but even for less like Fortnite, right? I think the early version of Fortnite weren't as successful and they had to build their game engine. And all this stuff is just kind of like decades of investment and then they've got hits. And some companies have hits, and then supercell, I would argue they probably haven't had that many recent hits. But they're still around and they're holding your quality bar. They're not launching crap. So I guess the conclusion is gaming industry is so cool to work in, but it's also kind of stuck to work in two. Depending on the timing and situation, the company you're at. And I guess it's just like entertainment in general. It looks glamorous on the outside, but it could it probably sucks for more people than less people. That's it. So where do you think the future of gaming is? Is it a web three and sandbox gaming? Is it some intersection of eSports and education? Where are you putting your time? Where are you putting your bet on the next iteration, I suppose of our industry? That's such a good question. Gaming is just so prevalent now that there's so many experiences that have like game like components that I don't know we're going to call gaming gaming in the future. "Especially with the PC Bond culture in Korea and in China. So I did join Amazon said to be sports. But before that, I had this interim year where I was working for this VC firm called ray ventures in New York. And I mentioned it because that was a very interesting experience because I worked a lot with so it was both VC slash consulting firm. And one of our biggest clients, which acquired us was Turner. So I got to learn a lot about Turner because that wasn't a world I worked in. And at the time, Turner was really heavily invested in illegal. So it's very fast to see their investment in that. It's going to Elena. In line with everything's Turner, radio and CNN, all these things. Looking at their broadcast studios, wow. They really took best in class TV level stuff. It applied to eSports and they tried to do it right. So that was interesting experience to learn about the media side of it. Ultimately, a former colleague at riot who joined Amazon recruiting me as head of eSports for the Orange County studio. And that is that's a whole whirlwind, but the quick summary there was, there's a game there was a game called breakaway. Which if you don't look up, I just gotta like it. And there has been recently a couple of games that look like it and they're like moderately successful. But the idea was it's a game where you had a ball against a score goals. But you're not like soccer or basketball players, you have weapons. So you can also do a little like FGC action in the middle while you're getting the ball. So it was a lot of stuff. It was kind of innovative. I kind of liked it, but I think as it pertains to this podcast, what was interesting is that we focused so much on what eSports teams wanted. And not enough on what the general population wanted. So all these eSports seems, they were like, yep, great game is going to be a huge success. And there are all behind it. They're all going to create teams. But then we just think that much general traction. And I think that was a major lesson learned for me twofold one is you need a huge player base to have these mega games that are going to last for ten, 15 years like league legends. So you can't just cater to one segment. And the second thing I learned, which is mainly around game development, is that eSports teams are an example of also streamers,.

"Been there's always a balanced and even when when the game is new You know some of the some of the most iconic moments are also making fun of bad play absolutely like that sucked every time someone says it like medic said at this last week or whatever i got flooded with with the men's stuff because you know some of the some of the moments are like laughing at you know comically funny vendors or whatever so you. Yeah it's definitely always balanced. I have examined this more from the solo q. Mentality and something that people have always been complaining about for league legends which is you know the deterioration of ranks community and and the interactions of players there to i've i've thought about it. I've always felt like no matter. What game it is when it's brand new. There's so many new things to try and so everyone speaking about what can i do. What can my team to you know positively and so you're trying to figure stuff out and so naturally the longer they any game goes on lease now been a very very long standing game. You're going to have more and more buildup of you are solidified in what your view is and what you know is right or you think is right and so that will cause you to shift your your area of examination from this creative place to nitpicking and and taking away other areas yeah and like you can create some systems to try and minimize that. But i think you know there's a million reasons people circuit more negative over time just like i don't play the game as much now so i took quicker old grumpy man. For whatever reason there's a million reasons could be that. I also look at it from like the traditional sports because there are a lot of people in the thread about and then talking about how it feels like just less than traditional sports. I think there's a lot of really interesting reasons behind that because league is like zero-sum game like in order for someone to make a cool place someone has to die whereas sometimes someone just like hits a nasty fadeaway. They played good defense. You play good offense and like you celebrate the guy who like hit the shot. But i feel like the league would be shitting on the person for bad defense even if they played good exactly. But i think it's still more obvious because if you take on trade and you fight each other both night which happened in africa which game it was this weekend. There was the verse. Gwen and the gwen is the guy taking ignite and so miscalculated the level one all their level to whatever it was. You know like people just naturally. You shouldn't have done that. 'cause mathematically you lose that now versus like. I think you have the video game which is like more numerically base. You could argue Like makes them more binary where it's like well. I didn't know of the thought. And one major league baseball announced which they did an opinion. Lindbergh COLUMN earlier that year. Uh Is that it was thinking about it. A e don't think it would have been possible, particularly in 2020 for them not to follow through with the right thing. So I wasn't surprised that it happened. I was surprised that it happened on that marvelous day and December 16th was definitely the The best day of 2020. That's the way I felt any way too. Yep, it's been, and it's taken such a long time. But it came so quickly after iftar looked like we We're going to get there for one reason or other. And so What? Where do we move from there? Well, first, it wasn't universally, uh, a potted, of course. But I was very happy that most That to my ears of the disagreement came from Negro League supporters. Oh, criticizing it thing for late being late. But of course The alternative was for it. Not happening. Oh, yeah? Yeah, And they criticized by whether authority does Major league have to declare the Negro. There was a major league and I I'm in sympathy with that thinking, but it was the same authority that 50 years earlier. The major leagues designated six Thank you gated white leaks as the major leagues and did not even consider because I've asked officials Do not even considered the Negro leagues. 1969 So whether you like it or not. They not only had the authority but they used it to the detriment of the Negro leagues. So I don't think they're redeemed yet, but I hope they get there. The Negro League players.
