Mariners president Mather apologizes for remarks

"Mariners President Kevin Ma Ther, um, has had to apologize Sunday night after wide ranging comments he made two Rotary Club surfaced earlier this month and He says he wants apologized every member of the organization. But in his remarks the CEO of the Mariners I mean, it's unbelievable, said this about former Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma, who was hired this past January as a coach with the club and about his need for translators and in his English skills is what he said to the Rotary Club in Bellevue. Washington, For instance, we just rehired Iwakuma. It was a picture for us. Wonderful human being his English was terrible. Mother said. He wants to get back into the game. He came to us. We quite frankly want him as a scout interpreter, Blah blah. Here, he's here says I'm going to say I'm tired of paying his interpreter when he was a player. We pay you a coma X, but it also have to pay 75,000 year. Have an interpreter with him. His English suddenly got better is English. Got better when we told him that I mean, really The CEO of a major League sports franchise, and you're gonna complain about paying and an interpreter 75 grand. Are you kidding me? And this is what he had to say about Mariners prospect. Who? Your Rodriguez, who's the number nine overall prospect in baseball, according to ESPN. Who your Rodriguez has a bigger personality and all of you combined. He's loud. His English is not tremendous. What? And by the way, this is the same guy. Mariners CEO who had to workplace complaints filed against him by female employees who left the team and he gets promoted to CEO and president. So I mean, come on, man.

"It as Something more like minor league professional sports rather than the student athlete. Construction that currently and then has been the case for a long time with the NC double, eh? I wonder if you have a strong take on this or if you're still processing it, which is what I'm doing. Well still processing it, But I have I definitely have opinions that that I don't know. You know, you're You're very smart guy who often you sit there You go to buy paint all work with each other. You know, I mean, don't have any inconsistencies or self defeating ideas here, so I don't know that any of minor cohesive yet, But here's some things that I think, um First of all, I'd like amateurism. I believe in it. I believe a scholarship is good compensation, and I believe attending college is a choice And if you choose to go to college With that as your compensation. You're not some oppressed person, you know, kept on this horrible work situation that is college football. I do think that anybody should be able to go pro whenever they want. I don't think the nth should have these rules where you're Required to stay two years or one year in basketball or three years in football. Whatever it may be. The point is I still like amateurism. What college football is what we're talking about here. Is big time college football programs. This is my suspicion without having been fully read in on this, but big time college football programs, not just divorce him from the inside, double a butt from small college football programs as well. So all the big revenue generators create a super conference. They all start making more money. They could have their own debate about what they want to have compensate. They're athletes. He was like, Don't Here's what I like and don't like about that. But I like it. It's probably inevitable and it's reality. And you do have to face reality essentially at some point, But I don't like is guy went to a small school. I went to University of Texas for law school, so I root for the Longhorns there about as big as it gets. I went to a small school for undergrad and I still love the Cinderella stories. I love the idea that David can be Goliath. I like Central Florida when they have one of these years like they had whatever it was 34 years ago. Can they really take down Look at BYU or what is a coastal Carolina this year? There's some really good teams. There are some good teams, you know that there's the Power five in the group of five. I know you know this and what you're talking about is most of the power five conference teams divorcing themselves in the NC double life this year. There's not a group of five team that really no. BYU is having a nice year. It would really go while we have to get them in the playoffs. But I still hold to that idea, man like I was one of these guys in sports, who said No, I want to see Central Florida play, you know, a big time F c C team. I want to believe that your boy think of Boise State Oklahoma, right in in that Fiesta bowl years ago with the hook and ladder play and just know the Statue of Liberty play, and I was like one of the most wildly entertaining Games. I remember I gasped watching in my basement at the time. The way that game ended on and I I agree with you. Basically, your stance is my stance and as the northwestern alarm like we actually We take the student athlete combination seriously. We have the number one graduation rate in the country and have at least top three for years on end. And you know, we're probably tomorrow. Barring some shocking developments, we're gonna clinch the big 10 West Division. I know it's a weird year. But like I think these things can co exist in a way that's healthy. Even with all the men left the end NC double is a mess in a lot of ways, and I get that I'm just not sure going Mork commercial, more semi pro And Tearing the sports side, the revenue sports side away from the university collegiate experience even further. I'm just not sure that's something that I'm terribly excited about personal. Let me add one more things that we don't need a football and mostly what? We're talking about your football. We don't need a football minor league Professional league. You know, we don't everything. One of the cool things about college football is it's regionalism. It's largely being lost. Local rivalries. Yesterday there was a big article in ESPN that I read about the death of the Southwest Conference. I grew up with the Southwest Conference. It was basically all teams in Texas, but ultimately this set. What we're talking about happening at the national level happened to the Southwest Conference in the nineties, And that was the big money programs like Texas and Texas A and M. Said. You know what? We just can't carry Baylor and TCU and rice anymore. They don't have the same revenue generation and I would just say, Well, then let's take a look at the last 2030 years has been a couple of national championships for the big 12. But is it really that much better like the college football experience? I don't know that it is. Last question will and it's just shifting very jarringly to another topic is we don't have much time. How holiday plans Christmas plans Christmas decorations. It's been a major theme on the show this week. We've got the Christmas tree. Project tonight. As soon as we're off the air gonna go get our Christmas tree.

"There's been a preview podcast already posted to the feet on Monday and there's plenty more. There's a picks PA that's already published as well. Well so follow the event Saturday. Because Brian Campbell is going to be there to give you full instant reaction in podcast form for USC to fifty one. That's the state of combat podcast, and it's available wherever podcasts are found all right GP. Let's go back to it former. Penn! State player Bolt now at Iowa state made headlines this week when he publicly said that he transferred because Penn State coach Pat Chambers. Once told him he added quote noose around his neck. norlander. You wrote about this. I'll let you handle the. Bolton came out with. The story on Monday of this week it was. Published, by Jesse Washington writer with the undefeated and the reason we are even talking about this was Bolton saw earlier in the spring that Pat Chambers was one of of many coaches that was speaking on. Zoom panel for the NABC Abou- Racial Equality and pushing this movement forward. And when he saw that it just didn't sit well with them because he. Distinctly recalled all the reasons that led to why wanted to transfer from Penn state, but the central issue here is that back in Twenty Nineteen Pat Chambers. Approach Bolton and used the phrase quote. Loosen the news. That's around your neck end quote. Pat Chambers has admitted to using the phrase and has subsequently put out obviously. Put out a statement apologized. He told the undefeated in the story I quote I didn't realize that word would hurt him, and I'm truly truly sorry for that. Bolton and his parents dispute that chambers. Officially are properly apologized back shortly after. The comment was made. So. This is the first the second, really the second incident Danny Casper down at Texas state has been. Accused of racially inappropriate comments and there there was. There is an ongoing investigation we've got. We've received no updates from that institution about that and then Pat Chambers becomes the second coach to be. Caught up. In what is? Rightfully been an elevated sense of discussion about. Racist comments or racially inappropriate comments. There's no reason for chambers to ever say what he said. Him admitting that he didn't realize where it would hurt him. Ignorance is not an excuse. Bolt was not calling for him to to fire Pat Chambers is not going to be fired. Pat Chambers should not be fired. What what we saw happen on Monday. My opinion parish is exactly how it should be. If? A player goes through something and choose to disclose or not to disclose it is their choice, okay? Bulletin live with this for more than a year and didn't make public, and that is entirely fine. When he saw action from his former coach that made him uncomfortable, he said I'm going to speak out about this to clear my conscience because I. Think it's the right thing to do. He does so. All of the information is verified on the record. Chambers receives public ridicule for from this. He doesn't lose his job over. It is a learning opportunity, and he can go forward now hopefully with a much higher sense of what. What is and is not appropriate as a coach as a white coach, predominantly coaching, black players there have been plenty a the majority of Penn state players who have come out in support of chambers as they should. If they feel if that's the right thing to do, and that's what's happened including miles, dredd, who was Bolton's roommate, and at the time that chambers made this statement chambers was actually serving and was handed down a one game suspension because he was caught on camera during a game shoving dread in a moment of. Frustration not to be excused chambers was sanctioned for that act, and it all came. All of this stuff came within the same period of time there so to me. I thought exactly how the story played out is how it should be. This isn't canceled culture. This is a coach saying the wrong thing, the player having the ability to speak out on it when he feels, it's most comfortable doing so the coach receiving criticism ridicule some Liping shed on it him, acknowledging the problem hopefully moving forward and educating himself and his staff and everyone connected to them in the process, and then we arrive here receivable, and by the way transfer to Iowa state where he was granted immediate eligibility, because he presented his case the reasons why he transferred the instability. Instability rightfully said you're good to go. You can play right away. He was one of the most important player for C., Probes Iowa state team last season, and should we have a season next season? He should be a standout guard as a junior. You said ignorant is not an excuse, and that's exactly right. It's not, but it can be an explanation and I think that is the obvious explanation here that pat chambers was just ignorant to how his comments would sit with a young black man and I say that as respectfully as I can say it like the definition of. Is Lacking knowledge or awareness like that's what this is. This is a coach who was using terms. He didn't even know how they would play with the person. He was talking to in addition to the news comment. As the story goes pat met with results spirits. And how the meeting went whatever but afterward according to receive their. Coach. Pat told him that he was really. Impressed or surprised that his parents were so well-spoken, an organized which is an obvious insult. I've been railing on for years every once in a while. I'LL HAVE A. A black athlete on my radio show. Let's say it's Jaren Jackson Junior, and like some person who's like an actual grizzlies fan. We'll tweet me and say oh. I love that interview with Jaren. He so well-spoken. Like what like why wouldn't they be? The implication is like can't believe. He speaks so well like if I have Grayson Allen on. Nobody will tweet me and say Grayson Allen was well-spoken but for. I was GONNA say for whatever reason, but we know the reason if Jaren Jackson Juniors owner John marantz on somebody will say Ooh, well-spoken, and I promise you. That person doesn't think they're being insulting. They think they're delivering a compliment. And it comes from a place of ignorance, and so I'm with you. Pet Own this pretty quickly very publicly. Apologized and then said he will learn from it and I'm GONNA. Take him at his word. When drew, brees went through what he went through as it relates to kneeling. During the national anthem he owned it..

"Is the Ivy League announcing that they will have no sports competing in the fall semester, and what that means as it pertains to the sport of college basketball is that no ivy league programs? Not Harvard not pin not Yale not any of them that play college basketball game before January and the Ivy League has added. There is no guarantee they'll compete at all so norlander. Here's the question. Is this just going to be an Ivy League thing, or is this a sign of what's to come for college athletics? Part of me thinks it's the sign for more of what's to come to college athletics GP. I hope that I'm wrong on this front I did speak with Multiple Ivy. League sources on Wednesday one of them, being head coach in the Ivy League for men's basketball program and There's actually. I spoke with with multiple coaches assistance head coaches. They're still. Like weird room for interpretation at this point on the basketball side, the football side is what it is the football. I think gains more headlines because where we are on the calendar. But as it was explained to me by multiple people, you know football loses more money. It is a bigger net loss for the IVY. League than any other sport, which obviously makes sense when you consider everything that has to go into holding a football game having a football program and all that stuff. But people are waiting to see okay. Football hasn't been canceled yet. Would it be put on the spring? I was told. That's highly unlikely. In all of these things are interconnected that the Ivy League level because Ivy League Athletic Department institutions with their sports programs It's basically it's. It's always been an interesting dichotomy. GP. It's a mom and pop operation largely you have these ivy. League institutions eight of them and those eight. Figure into you know. The top fifteen richest endowments among all American universities, but from athletic standpoint it's always been viewed for the most part as another piece of your college experience, but not the primary piece, and not something that the Ivy League ever sought to profit off of the entire history of Ivy. League sports is totally fascinating because the Ivy League was like the first football power going back more than one hundred twenty years, and then as college sports. Evolved and progressed the Ivy League slowly, but surely fell back fell back fell back. In football and men's basketball, we've seen searches as of late. What basketball coaches have described to me is we haven't heard for sure that we can't in theory play a non conference game three days shy of Christmas, as a hypothetical, because it's all-sports can't be played. For the entire fall semester, that's not necessarily until January, but I had another coach say we're not playing. January I've been told that we're not having any non conference games. It's just a matter of a formality at this point, and that's significant in terms of scheduling. Or maybe it's just a big nothing because as you said GP. Is this a bad harbinger for what's to come specifically with men's basketball, and are we kicking? The can down the road that we'll discover five weeks seven weeks. This is going to be the case across the sport. I worry that's the case you've already had. Rick Pitino tweet and this was. GP I think this is about two weeks since he said he said. Let's just push everything to January only have US play conference games and go from there. I do think that's a possibility. We wait and see on what can happen across the country parish. Texas there was a report a superintendent. Down in Texas says he doesn't think there's. GonNa be a high school football season in Texas in Texas that that is arguably as impactful as anything that the Ivy Leagues could do even as it relates to college athletics at whole on the whole GP so. I still hold out some hope that they're going to be able. Have Men's Division One college basketball in some forms in November and December, but make no mistake about it. Combined with this news from the Ivy League and conversations that have been had at the. Power Conference level with those commissioners, they are beginning the early stages of having contingency plans because it could wind up being an inevitability because our country can't get its act together and we are seeing. Daily records of positive cases, and until we can get that under control on the whole across the United States. It's obviously bad news for sports particularly college sports when you consider everything that has to go into. The the reason. The Leagues Announcement is getting as much attention as it's getting. It's not because people are gonNA miss. Ivy, League! Football like I. don't even know of Ivy League students are GonNa. Miss Ivy League football. It just doesn't really register the reason it's getting a lot of attention is because if you go back to March specifically on March tenth, it was the Ivy League. That was the First Division One conference that canceled its conference tournament, right? That happened again on the morning of March tenth that was a Tuesday morning. And when that announcement came down, it was ridiculed, it was mocked. I even got text messages from Ivy League coaches who were frustrated because they didn't understand why they couldn't just play the tournament without fans, which at the time is something that other conferences were considering? And I. Just remember telling at least one Ivy League. Coach I. Understand your frustration and I know your players probably devastated because suddenly this opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament for many of them the first time, and perhaps the last time. Has Been ripped away abruptly so I. Hear You, but I'm just GONNA assume that the university presidents wouldn't make a decision like this unless they felt like they had no choice. I'm just GONNA. Assume the people who run Ivy League institutions. Know what they're talking about. Maybe just maybe there are a little smarter than the rest of us and I tweeted something along those lines on Tuesday afternoon. I talked about it on radio after that and obviously twenty four hours later on that Wednesday night is when Rudy, Gobert tested positive, NBA suspended season fast four to the Thursday, March Twelfth, and every conference tournament was cancelled, and then the NCAA tournament was cancelled in other words the Ivy League was the first. Division One conference to see what was and act definitively. It's so now here..

"Has been postponed that was march eleventh when an announcer called off the Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz game. Just before tip off. Most of US remember that day it was the day. President trump announced the travel restrictions from Europe. The day Tom Hanks and read a Wilson said they had tested positive for Kovic nineteen and the day the NBA suspended the rest of the season after Rudy. Gobert the Utah Jazz Center head tested positive for the virus. You may remember go bare as the player who touched all the microphones at a Utah Jazz media event as a prank. He didn't know he was positive at the time and later apologized for it. I'm a huge basketball fan myself so I was crushed when I heard the news of the NBA suspension. But of course public health comes first to me that really was the watershed moment in the entire. Corona Virus Cova nineteen conversation and not just sports but in our culture. Christine Brennan has been covering sports for three decades. She says she hasn't seen anything like this in her entire career. I think it woke the nation and the world frankly up to the significance and the seriousness of the corona virus pandemic after the NBA suspended season. It was like a domino effect. Major league soccer in the NHL have suspended their seasons for now while Major League. Baseball is hoping to open season in May according to ESPN and the NCWA cancelled it spring and winter championships as a wolverine go blue. I love March madness. It's one of my favorite times of the year. I even had tickets to the final four this year so I was really disappointed when that didn't happen but the threat to our health and safety was too great and it wasn't just the safety of the fans it was for the safety of the athletes to eleven thousand. Olympians expected to compete in Tokyo. This summer had their plans. Put on. Hold the Twenty Twenty Summer Games now postponed until twenty twenty one. The Games have been canceled three times before. But this is the first time they've been postponed and of course even a date. That far ahead doesn't come without concerns. Christine Brennan told me well we in the summer of two thousand twenty one. We'll people feel comfortable. Flying on planes overseas will the Japanese fans feel comfortable being in big stadiums and the answer is over and over experts. I've talked to. We have no idea. We just do not know but by that point of course a lot of these. Olympic athletes will have lost months and months of training. I just don't think we know yet and I think that uncertainty is so difficult for athletes. Consider that Olympic athlete. Their whole lives for this one moment. I was hardly know just as we train for for almost a year to two years. Just make the Olympic team. That's odd the beater Amman. An Olympic distance runner twenty twenty was the fifth time he's qualified at forty three. He's also the oldest American to run the marathon in the Olympics. You know before before the device you have a goal does the one thing you have like road races coming up you. Have you have something to get ready for this time? Everything's on the air. I just training just to stay fit and the sports world isn't just waiting on the sidelines. In the midst of the Pandemic Major League Baseball is now participating in a nationwide Corona Virus Antibody Study League employees spouses and players volunteered to participate to help give a better understanding of how prevalent this virus really is so I go is not to get an obese specifically back to work go in our research is really to get a bit of understanding of what the true prevalence looks like across the nation. I spoke with Daniel Lichner. The president and lab director of the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory. They were great pot down in a great organization because the head nationwide coverage that we could access individuals that were I seem to matic regular part of the general population. You know from team owners all the way down to hotdog vendors and be sales people on Game Day and everything in between you're looking at the MLB it sounds like sort of a microcosm then of the country Representing different demographics of our country. Can Can you talk me through how it was administered? Then in how quickly then did they get results? Some people could do drive-thru program where they have a bunch of their technicians. Physicians trainers and the Individuals with the drive through. Stick their finger out the window get fingerprint can get the result literally in a matter of minutes and it seems like most people would fundamentally want to know. Then am I now essentially immune can I get infected again? I think which too soon to say what that immunity looks like now. The federal government is slowly making plans to reopen the country. As I said earlier president trump has asked major league sports commissioners to be apart of that conversation the commissioners have a tough job. They're weighing a lot of things. In making the decision of how in win to get back to work commissioners work for the owners and their league and and the owners are going to want to start playing. They're going to want to start making money again. They're not liking the losses the financial losses that they're taking of course no one is the commissioners also have to weigh the very significant health risks. Not just for the players and their families and the referees and the coaches and the TV people and the and the media people But also the fans in the stands. And if you're drawing people into a stadium and if it becomes a corona virus hotspot and all of a sudden explodes. That is the fear of every commissioner in every sport you open up too soon you bring people together and all of a sudden you have another corona virus bomb sports says we know it may not be the same for a long time the NFL draft. Which starts tonight. We'll be held. Virtually for the first time as was the WNBA draft last week. The League plans to start its regular season in September and the draft helped set that into motion. Here's NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in an interview with ESPN. Obviously it's a different year for all of us. We had to make modifications in our offseason program We've had to make significant changes to our draft And those are all appropriate and their right to do. And we you know part of what this is about is continued to work from home by-product from home continue to do things we're supposed to do and be prepared. There's also the possibility that spectator less sports will become the new normal Christine Brennan predicts that will happen at the PGA men's golf tournament when it comes back in June and the masters in November. We could see an a masters without spectators. And that's GonNa look very strange to a lot of people. Although my prediction here is that within a couple of days of watching some of these sports events. If you watch a baseball game without spectators day is not gonNA look a strange the next day and by the third or the fourth day. You're going to be totally used and you're just going to be happy. You're watching baseball again. I think sports is walking a very fine line. It's kind of a tight rope. We want sports back. It'll make people happy it'll signal this openness that maybe we're we're coming out of this and yet you don't WanNa move too fast. Olympic runner of the Bearman thinks that the twenty twenty one Olympics will be a history making record breaking year. But I think he's GonNa going to unite us. I'm just GONNA have so much energy like a lot of things. Going every athlete winner represent contract because they know what their country went through so everybody wanted to do when do their best Magic Johnson also remains hopeful America. All of us who live in this great country that we live in. We need sports especially in a time like this but only if everybody is safe

"Be that things call of bores. This is a fine woo. Why an episode? ooh Wow KALSA fabulous having you on here I feel like I know so much more about sports. That's what happens calls around before we get to the fact check. I do wanting it to the tweet tweet of the week. Remember that we have a twitter. Don't be afraid to use all YA. We're at minority corner on twitter. Roslyn instagram's I'm you have been digging in there. I'm excited about the INSTAGRAM. I use I know how to use instagram. A little bit more than I do. Twitter a lot of it more if you will so I'm hoping to Fun Things on there like quotes and like Videos with upcoming guests and just all things that instagram hold but on twitter this week. Big Shot out to at Dion Dude. tweeted someone who has. What are some of your favorite podcasts? At that Dion Dude said minority corner hands down the best out there topics range from pop culture everything black LGBTQ. I A friendly and allies expanding. What's going on in the political world and so so much more I have is how you that this we came the most perfect time for me? I think the I the Senate has just announced that they were going to not have witnesses in my head exploded and I was like Oh my God. Democracy is over and then I looked at the twitter. The mystery was there and I thought okay. You all understand what it is that we're doing here and it fought like okay. What we're doing here is important and it? It just gave me strength and it gave me faith so I appreciate that three so much. So let's get to the fact Chad y'all like this fact check tweet about it. I enjoy doing the fast I track. Sometimes you know we just be talking when it comes to the Super Bowl. There was so much happening. We even mention that J.lo's daughter M A slate up on that stage so dope love a mother daughter. Duo The seems amazing. And it's going to turn out a lot better than license. Judy although lies is doing okay but judy that didn't workout so well. Also I have to say even mention this but performing the superbowl this is point is so challenging especially for black artists and I think that it was really doped to see. I think we did talk about this but just seeing a Latin. Latin acts duo up. They're just laying. I would've loved to see some glorious too fond but can't always get what you want Taylor Swift. I was actually born in Pennsylvania. I know so much about Taylor Swift. Now I'm kind of embarrassed but whatever she's Pennsylvanian. Aged nine went to Tennessee said that that she was born in from the south. But she's not but she did move down there to go chase her dreams. There were waiting for her Nassfeld. Also I was citing Britney because she hasn't come out and to be political or anything but caveat before she did the end zone album she had tried to write. This album called original doll and she was going to come out now and have a gay anthem and she was writing all this music. Her own shoes China. Step out and be on her own record. Label was pretty much like nope. This isn't you. That's it's not your brand. You're not going to be political. You're not going to be that. They were controlling her and then she broke her leg met Kevin Federal Line. The rest is history stories. Firearms GonNa stay in my lane. Make a dollar make some music toilet pretty dresses and make some paintings. I think he said I said the phrase wrong I think they. He said beating a horse to death. That's not a saying this is a terrible thing to do or say the saying is beating a dead horse I misspoke we also just off. The Katkov mentioned like Bruno Mars is uptown funk sounds like uptown faulk uptown music gonNA funk you up it sounds like fuck you up and it's purposely done that that way and then when you hear kids say it's like But we also casually just dropped in if you seek amy which is Britney Song and if you seek amy the song is like if you you seek amy like you're looking for amy but if you say it fast enough it just sounds like if you seek amy f you see K me fuck me this fucking psycho kids and parents parents but kids gotta learn so for the exact dead mouse quote. Couldn't find it I do and if you just google dead mouse homophobic. He's said tons of homophobic transphobic transphobic. Staff so upsetting really dig as beads but his comments a terrible but he does this thing where he says these comments but he's like I'm not really homophobic Brecca transphobic but he says these things online because it's like he's just the eight year old boy who just doesn't really get it and really understand. It's so frustrating. Sometimes these folks don't need social the media and just better to be silent. Some artists just actually shouldn't speak. Just keep your mouth hat on and spend the track DJ. But I couldn't find the exact exact quote where he said. I don't make music for gay people or ballroom culture something and he probably dropped the F bomb and I don't mean fuck and don't mean he he meant he was gonna Uptown funk up and I couldn't remember the name of the other out player in the documentary about Aaron Hernandez and he is Ryan Thomas Callahan. He played for the New England Patriots. You're drafted in the fifth round of two thousand six and he also also played for the Kansas City chiefs. Who just won the superbowl? But he did not come out until after he had left. Really Great. Three part documentary series it. Also I will be linking in the show notes a link to the petition. That if you've seen the Taylor swift video you need you to calm down. I'm not a Superfan y'all just highlighting some good work that's happening but she has a sinus petition. Support the Equality Act and she's looking to get one million signatures. Taylor swift is leading the charge. We're about halfway there so I'm going to link it in the show notes. Make sure that you signed it because there should just absolutely we be the Equality Act. Let's get Well maybe not this Senate after look at it well. Let's get this now and then after he doesn't twenty we can push it to the new blue you senate and get some equality because it's about damn time. Oh a really fun thing. I curated a playlist of the music that I talked. It's about from our minority corner halftime routine of the queer black musical trailblazers. There is a link in the show notes also posting it in the minority corner kids facebook playground of that will be there so you can listen to some of the artists that we were talking about. "Now a high five was GEICO. Do each other in the Castro that you were gay around and if they would get yeah exactly so if you do a high five means a guy that's when you and your friend both games go fuck which other baseball thing but isn't that amazing that is so and so so gay's make so much of our culture. Sure yes absolutely invent so much for so creative so creative and so it's such a cool story. Why is there not a bio pic of this man like called the high five life? Yeah the hi fi or something like that. He did idiom related causes in the ninety S as a lot of our brothers and our our forebears is dead. Yeah all reasons. That's an Academy Award winning movie right. Yes absolutely yeah another vehicle for me. Okay actually that'd be wonderful but so cool. And he has this really important quote that he said the wording in front of me right now he said a really great. It was basically along the lines of. They said that a gay man can't play baseball. But I'm gay I played baseball so it can happen. Wow and it can happen in the future it can happen again. Basically and to this day no other. No Man has been Enga- wildly play baseball. Always come out now. There've been a couple that have come out afterwards. There have been a couple that have been part of like satellite minor league teams. That are making it up there and maybe there's a chance on the future but nobody else so sad that they're not like after all this time and they're still so far and few there's so few you look all the men that are playing these sports. Statistically I got the numbers I did some research so of course the fourth league that we I have to talk about the National Hockey League National Hockey League there is not a single person who is out while he played nor has is there ever been a single man who come out as gay after he finished in the NHL NHL has eighteen thousand players approximately that have gone through. Its ranks over the years. It's not a single game in any of them row. None Zero but statistically if like I don't know these numbers are skewed because I don't think people the answer correctly anyway especially if you can consider like bisexual as well but that would mean there'd be at least like two thousand men or if not here error because again we don't buy is hard to measure because people don't know how to really and homophobia in self selection like this straights are the ones that are going to make it through so those numbers Chris my it actually really be different. Yes there are. There's no world in which there are not a really large number of closeted gay men who never came out and hockey and in a number of these different sports now. There are rumors flying around for a number of different really high profile. People in the sports I don't I don't I don't love to talk about like sure. Is he gay rumor. I it's it's that's a little I don't know but there certainly is a big portion people out there so like that's kind of crazy right between all of these leagues accounted up the numbers on basketball's Escobar's only had about three thousand people since NBA. It's kind of a young. NFL twenty-five thousand people over its years approximately. He's really rough. Numbers are big MLB Melby About fifteen thousand National Hockey League about eighteen thousand that rounds out to very very rough seventy five a little bit less thousand ish people uh-huh and every single person between all throughout history could fill a small dinner party. That's like one pool party and like Palm Springs. Oh yeah which the amazing party. Don't get me wrong there. Yeah sports seem to was. But that's crazy. That's that's wild out of all of these people and as I've been doing the research for the show it shocked me. I thought that there would be more. I think especially especially like a white guy. Whatever we imagine that like this idea of gay representation? The struggle is won. But the thought is that we've come far. Yeah right the thought is moved. We have moved the needle we you are allowed to be game public now you there are some gay characters in movies and TV. There are some movies and TV that are about gay people. I'm not saying that we've made it. I'm not sure if there's room to go you would think we've made progress but sports is sports awesome place. We're really not. Yeah well and it's interesting too. I have been chomping at the talk about this. Yeah I you watch netflix documentary about Aaron Hernandez taken out now. We're doing it. I have to I highly recommend it. I haven't seen you part documentary series. I will watch it for sure. socked me because I had heard tidbits about Aaron as he played for the New England patriots articles here and there and the documentary a wild wild ride because essentially Aaron Hernandez murdered one person who then also probably murdered two other people years before that and shot somebody else who you still survives. And he's a Latino playing in this football league and it comes out as it's going along that like you know there. Was this guy that in high school that he was on this football team he had folded around with and that essentially long story long that Aaron Hernandez was probably struggling with his homosexuality or his or he could have been by the guy but he was struggling with that his dad who was a football player who end up dying when he was younger was very homophobic out ideas of what should be and then also. The documentary makes us other case about Aaron Hernandez when after he killed himself spoiler alert I he. He looked at his brain and he had terrible seat is like chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Yes and there's a number of NFL players actually in the killing themselves stops who also NHL to is a huge problem with. And I think and so there's also like there's a case that gets made in this is wild but not saying that's why Aaron Hernandez did all the things things that he did. But I think it's a recipe for disaster. He also was sexually abused as a child. So interesting documentaries. I've watched whether it's the Michael Jackson documentary or the Whitney Houston Y. I mean people who have these traumatic fucked up by some sort of oppression of their sexuality or child abuse and then if you mix in the people that have these brain damage brain isn't functioning like a correct level and the NFL is not doing enough enough to fuck organization. Absolutely like it's this gladiatorial sport. I applaud like the NBA. Because you just you might get injured but you're not. There's not a record of brain damage. There's what's happening. Well yeah because just the nature. Football is inherently violent. Throwing yourself at somebody that full force. Yeah when you throw a two hundred fifty pound man onto another man. There's just enough force going on. That is GonNa Fuck your head up. It's going to back up. It's going to fit your legs up like it is. It is violence silence with armor. On top of Yeah Yeah just go. Crashing ends each other. And it's hard it's can't we move into a B instead so because there are out rugby players are outraged. They're ready players. I it's still that sort of adrenaline aggressive thing. But you're not had budding. You know cutting no tackling. Let's move into rugby also does not pause it doesn't stop and reset and nearly as often if all during the sport and the guys are hotter because Asano fucking on and you can see it. They wear short shorts height. Polls muscles. That you're like there were in the armor and it just makes them a little weird and just yeah. I'm so here for let's move over Anna Fowler. We need the ARA foul. Rugby is like number one hottest is player. Sure well and again to there are again like they're out rugby player. So it's more supportive community like that happens there and so it's kind of this weird thing where you do seeing the smaller sports that maybe don't pay as much attention to secretly. You can actually get a lot of representation and it's not as big of deal because you don't have the super super giant major American. NFL style mechanism behind. And so you can't have a gay rugby player. There are a lot of gay soccer players who have played in the different international leagues. The fucking NASCAR. When I did my chauffeur NASCAR NASCAR has had gay driver without an issue Right Multiple Female Dr Ray Multiple Black Drivers comparising short compared to every other national? And that's actually NASCAR's the biggest downfall like there's there's just gay people NASCAR. This is probably not as there's not as much I guess maybe capitalism let them an rent trailers so afraid to take risks. And there's there's a lot less profile while you're playing the game. Yeah 'cause you're in this car right. We can't really see you. Yeah I will say in the documents about Aaron Hernandez player who I forgot something McCowan or something. He came out after he laughed laughed. The the the league and he had a psychiatrist. NFL Psychiatrist and he was coming up. His thing was. He was trying to gain as much weight and make himself off as ugly as possible so no one would think that he was gay or that they went dot while he's not dating a woman in high school. I know of but like in in so we'll suicide because he was like this people won't be like well this is. Why isn't he dating someone like me? And she said to him. You're not the only only player in the league had this conversation with. So they're they're they're all absolutely And then also too like they are shooting these players up with all these steroids steroids and stop the it's literally like gladiators and it's disgusting. Anything we just need to take. There's so many reasons to give pause on the NFL somewhere into the Iowa caucus in there that when there's something that shows you that there's so much problematic shit let's pause on it. It's a rotten. We've got to start digging. Yes that's it absolutely okay. We've talked so much about sports. Yeah we can't have a full discussion about sports without talking about women Ga- no yeah and tell us the women's leagues all all of the gay representation that we've had as far as their I think again. We see really similar trend with maybe some of the minor sports in the of women's leagues don't have such a large magnifying glass. Under them said Queer people are allowed to flourish and be part of it in a way that they aren't over here Meghan Pino us us women's soccer team. The ICE I S- The the the history of like really prominent lesbians and Queer People in Women's sports is long and storied people playing at every every level people playing the professional levels young soccer a WNBA. Come on like there are a lot of really great examples there as well. L. Women's soccer had an all-star game last year the year before where forty percent of the people on the team or lesbians and one one of the teams was over eighty percent gay people. Wow now on the all star game. It's also crazy too because they do believe that the women's soccer they make their are better than the men. And the money yes significantly less money disgustingly less amount of monies men's leagues. But you know it's kind of an interesting thought. Why is it that women can be gained sports so much more than men can and I? I'm not trying to imply imply that any sort of privilege or anything like that. It's just I think it's a combination of we aren't paying as much attention to women's sports even though we should be there mazing mazing women and men likely even you know there's such a such a patriarchy like not no one's paying attention but like there's not enough of is on. Yeah Women's sports and there should be. Yeah and I think that there is also just this culture. There's this really powerful toxic pushing boys sports to be the ultimate Masculine v Manly man the most heterosexual actual and I think in girls sports. There's more room for that not to be the case. You're not expecting a woman to be the height of femininity all the time like there are absolutely absolutely pressures. I'm not saying that but it's really interesting to see how like it's so reversed an and it's two completely separate worlds that are going on also never really prominent a woman. I ever feel coach. I ever gay. Coach is one missed. Katie sours on the forty nine. I saw her in a commercial and I was like we turn the volume up..

"You're not really supporting you know. Colin Kaepernick yeah and so they didn't stand for the National Anthem I- I- confession. I got a sports games. I don't Tan for the National Anthem. Either be stopped. I I supported Poor Colin Kaepernick. I wish that we did the national black at them etc.. Something like Yeah not enough conversation has been going on. I think it's Bullshit Colin Kaepernick doesn't have a contract absolutely absolutely. I think it's bullshit. It's I do support like I understand. What Jay Z is coming from? Where at this point? He's saying it's been three years and and we need to keep the conversation going. It's a very like infiltrate the system from within and change it a pro which I see the value in you know. I think it's important that you know black men become business owners especially in the NFL. Like of all the places that you are white and the players are black. Yeah yeah let in the the freeze owners charged all the different kinds of stuff so like it's it's hard. I hope that he can make change. Range but systems also have a way of changing the people that they're in well especially when capitalism money. Yeah 'cause they did do an. It's this weird thing because we have the side businesses but then at the same time when businesses are at least trying to make an effort even though the angle is to make money but at least they are. We're having the conversation. Yes okay and so this wraps back around because we derailed from commercials there were political commercials were gay commercials going on. There was one of the first in the very first commercial break or something. That was like we're lesbians we're Lesbians skin-care was like the thing. It was like this really horrible. Add like re to women like took off their helmets like they're women and then are they lesbians Mike that was the commercial and then it was like dove or something. I think lovable commercials. You never know like a dragon and then tampons Y- arrive. There was Shamlan twists. Everything everything I mean the the commercials they definitely I think largely there. There were some political commercials that were like cashing in on like like activism in some shit but like for the most part I think a lot of the businesses just went weird like not even good right weird just like doc. Let's do something really fucked up and then everybody's going to remember the turbo tax commercial. was that the one where Jason Momoa takes off his arms. No it's why we leery have one. Why would we have Jason Momoa? Take off his unless they're going to like the TV was muted. Yes okay can email them to me just sleep next surveys. Memo's arm yeah okay. Just wrap them around me he can go off and do whatever and deserve us God. I always hugging me. There was there was so much going on in the commercial. I think we also had it muted or people were talking. I don't remember but like what was the arms so what I remember from. This adds Jason Momoa. Big beefy man walks. This home takes off his arm does and he's like skinny. Little chicken arms underneath breath takes off his ads and he's got like a week like flabby kind of thing on. Sounds like a peels back his hair so he's like balding and his hairs all stringy stringy and then plays a mandolin or something. I think it was home insurance and then something about. They're trying to get his skinny arms to bench present S in Canada. Yeah I guess it's what it is trying to get you just like Remem- I there was a lot of like I notice. There's a lot of like LGBT commercial. Yeah which I always think of like come get my money okay. I'm included in the conversation. There was an olive in Portugal Rossi. Jonathan Ben Nez had a very weird pop tarts commercial advertising for pop tarts art. Pop tart money like I'm not above that. I definitely recommend watching the turbo tax. When it's doing this weird sort of dance like this right? Oh it's like a lizard s crap but it's not as though It's very entertaining. It's like a minute long and it just the same song over and over again. Oh little gnaws Nice with commercial barely know who I've any sense. They're like going to the grammys like Hawaii. And they're like little nausea in up in a pink cowboys too. I'm like I don't know who he as like. You have twitter right thirty five off the 'cause one little not thank you so much recognizing hello. John I actually seventeen years old. You're what what's after generation Z.. Because so few is still room like six years to figure out what the summary letting you decide what your yeah. Yeah it's very you know new wave we're naming ourselves No but we'll not sex. I'm twenty five for the record. Low mass x not on gay. He's a gave rapper awards. Yes how long did not know about him. Song Old Town road. I've heard about take my horse or the how of you I I would my defense. I've heard about it the ladies and I haven't heard it but I've heard about controversy because it wasn't allowed like the con- country top radio. Our guest yes. Yeah okay so okay so you need the actual full story. Wow that's crazy. Yeah so I. I think this was just literally. I mean. Everything's happened so fast summer. Ish Rush of twenty nine thousand nine hundred will no sex young rapper. soundcloud rapper small profile. Not Going on comes out with a song called town road. It is a rap song that Has This like twangy guitar over it and country based it's a it's a country song. Yeah you know it has all the trappings of that has a little bit of like this wrapping kind of going on. Because that's what he's he's doing. Yeah people really liked it. People really responded to it. It blew up really quickey Super Catchy Song. It's really accessible. You know like even little kids like it because a words words or really even little kids Vo Kim and it's so infectious and so got really big got on the billboard charts and then the country whatever powers powers that be again gathering information through twitter. And I'm just picking up little bits and pieces of the stress new source. Some racist country person said this country song that doesn't belong on our list. He's black. Yes exactly found. This was a hip hop song. Fuck off like you. Don't you don't get to decide. And so then at that point billy ray Cyrus steps in and does a remix. Okay Old Town road to a much larger platform rays of it. He's very cool very trendy. Shout out to Billy Ray. Cyrus did a real solid also fathered Miley race. Eisai father my Li all the good and bad that comes with that but again he has gone to one hit wonder that it's going to keep them relevant for the next ten years and he won a grammy anyone. Anyone a grammy. And he's gay and Blah absolutely but so billy stepped in they did the remix. Now cannot be denied. This right yeah and so and and I actually would like his voice. Billy Ray Cyrus voice sounds really good in that version. He's does commercial too. Yeah Yeah probably with the doritos commercials little axe and and then Sam Elia Mustache. Yes yes deanne saw in Las XS dancing and then similarly. It's mustache sure dances yes. Yes just playing the guitar. And he's like I'm not Danson. Yep doritos three does. But I mean that's and and then so just a lot more remix of the song come out very trendy. Very popular loss is very very very funny like a natural memer always on twitter. Always has the perfect. I love that is a phrase A. She's a natural me is I. Don't know how else to say like he's really. I'm good at math funny. So do you think some people are just like naturally talented at members and some people have to work at it. Yeah I think so. I think that there's just a certain type HYPOC person who sees a random picture of spongebob and it's like I know what your phrase blank blank Dick down last night. Oh this is me drunk in that Uber. Fort like when she says yea yeah yeah and so some people just. Yeah that's fair. I think I have about about thirty percents on a good day. You know what I mean because you just need to get the ten thousand hours that you need to log into time memed enough. You'll get at their. Why didn't ever think of that? I need to spend more time for my problems. Obsolete adult solve everything perfect. I'm a less fun going back. A little fucked up Ari Ari five lots. I wonder if from the NFL again. Okay okay. Well they did have they had a commercial to yes. Let's talk about fucked up weird commercials. So they had a commercial that was a PSA Working with some of the mothers who have lost their silence to police violence. So they're working with Jesus rock nation and he's mothers and so again it's sort of like NFL. Yes you're saying something but then Khan Cabinet doesn't have a contract but then these mothers were saying like listen. I'm Colin Kaepernick Fan but the same time a mother. They said this on the commercial. Oh sorry they said it was on the view of you know in the commercial just sort of telling their stories of how different like. PSA's USAA sort of die. And see I feel like it's so complicated. Everything is so cancer not cancelled. You know. I think there's room for humanity the same time we gotta get these stories out now. There's no ethical consumption under capitalism lying. Put that on instagram. I mean they're probably going Nazi. That's a that's a really common. That's already. There are one hundred percent with that. I did not invent that phrase on but like yeah in in in Japan right now like just because you know if the. NFL wants to talk about police violence. That doesn't quiet That doesn't negate what they did with Colin Kaepernick. The Future of Gaming

"For high school athletes. Getting scouted to play on a big league. Sports team is the dream they hope. Someday Day recruiters will be standing on the sidelines watching during practice or come to their games and sign them up for college teams or even sometimes professional ones. That happened a sixteen year old. Kyle gears door. He goes by the nickname Boga but the recruiting process was a bit different gears. Off wasn't out on a field field joe he was in his parents house in Pottstown Pennsylvania sitting in front of his computer playing the video game Gabe fortnight streaming his games almost daily for Amazon's twitch a website for gamers and. That's where a scout for an eastwards team called the sentinel saw in play. He signed a one year contract with the Sentinel's back in March and that paid off for gear store and the sentinels almost immediately. Yup Right here. This was in July at the Arthur. Ashe Stadium in flushing New York. That's the same stadium where tennis is players compete in the. US Open gear stuff. was there on the field for the first fortnight World Cup and it was a spectacle spread of players across the screen. There's your talk ten on the left side. The top players in the world sat on the field behind computer monitors side by side playing against each other in the virtual game which was is then projected onto multiple matrons for thousands of fans and stands bogus parents in the audience of course as well cheering him on and they weren't the only ones fortnight has about two hundred fifty million registered users and more than a million of them or streaming the World Cup Competition Jim Champion and the prize. Money was worth a lot. The three million dollars of that gears dorm took home about two point. Four million the sentinels got to keep the rest according to people familiar with the matter but even so boga and other eastport competitors like him are living. The teenage dream getting paid to play video games epic the company that makes fortnight. Isn't the only game in town. activision blizzard and take two interactive software have launched professional professional leagues around their games. Electronic Arts has a fee e World Cup a video game version of the soccer World Cup with thirty two players competing in multiple apple rounds until one country player comes out on top revenue from EA. Sports is expected to climb around twenty six percent this year to reach about one point. Two billion dollars hours while at the fast growing need it's still just a small part of the global video game. Industry is estimated to be worth one hundred fifty billion from the Wall Street Journal. This is the future of everything. I'm Qatari Yokum. This episode is part three of our highlights series where we bring you the best from the Wall Street. Journal's Tech Live Conference in Laguna Beach California for Three Days Wall Street Journal editors gathered alongside leaders in the tech community to discuss everything from the future of artificial intelligence to data privacy today. We're focusing on the future of games. Hi Jason Gay. And I'm a sports columnist for the Wall Wall Street Journal. I'm speaking Andrew Wilson the CEO of electronic arts electronic arts or EA as a global leader in the gaming world world especially in sports games. They're the ones who make madden NFL. Fica need for speed apex and of course the Sims the company has more than three hundred million registered players around the world and last year two thousand eighteen to posted a net revenue of five point. One five billion in dollars Andrew spoke to us about how e sports mobile gaming on social networks and mixed reality Games are changing the way people play and also also starts on the industry overall. I want to ask you right at the top. What you were excited about right now like what is happening in your trade? It might be something you are doing but it might be something somebody else's do what is getting you excited right now in gaming if you think about how cloud is going to change the consume everything right so we watch more TV and more music and we listen to music and AL belief is that we're actually started out a blue the lines between real and virtual with the cloud. So you get to place where you get up in the morning and every activity you perform through the day has has some kind of payoff out of a game. You might run to work. It means you have more energy and fee for. You might have a dozen eggs in the fridge. Which means you're sims a fed? You might drive fast. So you'll need speed game is better. You may interact with a whole Gotcha people so you have more power in. PG So this blurring of the lines between the real and the virtual kind of moving getting from a discrete experienced went industry experience. So are there applications locations for businesses to actually game by the workplace people showing up for the nine thirty meeting on time. I think that's happening already. We see that in schooling to where we use game fixations a lot of schooling education is becoming more compelling for a new generation so inevitably it happens in our workplace. That's for sure. Do you think that people can burn out on it or do you think that that is something that will stay the idea that people want that kind of competitive metabolism where they gamified experience social interaction and competition competition at two of the most powerful motives of human behavior that positive so guilt obligation addiction causes as human beings. Do all kinds of things until such point in time is actually actually. This is just really bad and we kick the habit cold Turkey and then we tell all of our friends not to do it as well but social direction and competition the two things that we don't we don't get tired of it kind of drives us throughout our lives and so really the very core of gaming these to call positive motivators of human behavior and provided you do it right and you build over time and and you get the rewards and benefits of those two things that it's not something you boone out on. It's actually something that enriches and extends it enhances your life. What's an example of something that you've experimented with yourself that that you've been surprised? It's been a very sort of exciting satisfying gaming experience candy crush. Who would've thought like doing this and doing this? I mean here. We are five five you six years later and we're still doing it. Yeah Yeah it's a good segue to the next question. which is that? I think of gaming as a business where every now and again there are true phenomenon that just crossed the culture. And what is it like. And you've had some of them. What's that like to have a game? That isn't just a business success but just sort of vaults into the cultural conversation station I think every day you up to build entertainment. You hope is that you're going to detain you. Know tens or hundreds of millions of people I mean as as the providers and creative at a time and I think that's all of our objective when we get up in the morning every now and then it actually happens and all kinds of good things come from that no kinds of challenges come from that. We had a game earlier this year. Old Apex Legends. We brought fifty million people into that game in a month. And that's that's a wonderful thing. I mean that's mind blowing and we we're running around the office cheering. How compelling this game and then all of a sudden you discover there are all kinds of negative manifestations of of that kind of broad appeal cheetahs in in the spice and you get people trying to counterfeit currency in spice and you get bullies in the spice? And then all of these kind of negative manifestations of human behavior that we see in the real world quite frankly also manifest that skyline a will that has this many eight people interacting with it and so there's a whole nother victor of work that we have to do to keep that that experience fun and safe and enjoyable for the people who play. How do you see around corners to predict predict and anticipate? What kinds of Shenanigans might happen at a game or been doing it alone time here? We spent a lot of time thinking about if we were bad bad people. What would we try? And do we go out and hire some bad people to see an awesome. What would they do that works? And then the other thing is is we've written a whole program. Set that that really looks at by human behavior over. Tom's human compensation over time and we're getting better and better through machine learning at predicting where positive energy cartoons on itunes negative or

"Is just really exerting your will on the opponents knowing this stage of the game that there's really nothing. They can do. Remember this? Dr started back at the Tennessee nine eaten up a lot of clock. Five twenty accounting in the third quarter tightens up twenty four ten. REO two hundred center Dion Lewis behind Louis gets the ball and Louis gets hit backfield. And he will be dropped. They might even progress back to the line of scrimmage. It might be a one yard lost Danny Shelton there to make the stop for the patriots. I mean, I think what's credible for Lewis is, you know, where's he been this year? Ciller leading rusher. But their offense has been so honestly bad. Yes. And and again, he's average under four yards a carry after leading the league. Yards per carry among Russia's with one hundred and fifty or more carries last year second down and eleven from the patriot thirteen shotgun for Mario. Thanks to Lewis don't own the middle and two high in the end zone intended for Tozzi sharp, and that's good coverage there by Devin mccourty. Third down. Yeah. That that pass, you know, it's very hard difficult. Trying to throw a pass that's low because you have defenders with their arms up and there's really a very short distance to try to drop that ball into in the end zone. Third and eleven from the patriot thirteen ninth play of the drive coming up. The Mario will go empty backfield shot gun three receivers left to to the right from the New England thirteen. Gets the snap. Pump fake gonna roll to the right? Peak chased throws it away. Smartly patriots. Did a good job of keeping? Mario from running the ball. John Simon and Dante Hightower. Stayed in their lanes. And the fuel goal unit will come on. For the tight dry and suck up. We'll try this one. From the twenty one yard line. So a thirty one yard attempt. Stock up on the year. Sixteen of nineteen thirty three yard earlier this one for thirty one is turns it into a three score game. Yeah. Let's not balls down kick is away. And it is just good inside the left upright. Time out on the field. Four fifteen to go into third the titans. Extend the lead Tennessee twenty seven New England ten you are listening to the National Football League on sports. USA? Results.

"Troy west back at the Coliseum in Los Angeles. Two minutes to go fourth quarter. The Rams lead the chargers thirty five twenty three. Let's pause ten seconds for station identification. This is the National Football League on sports. AM HD one Colorado Springs. This is southern Colorado's sports leader, Xtra sports thirteen hundred. Third and one for the Rams who are an impressive seven of ten. Converting third downs in this game. With two minutes to go that give us the Brown. He's converted the first down and he sits down as it gets to the forty nine yard line. Make them eight of eleven simply the Rams or to make it through physical and have overmatched darker pink today. Today came came that came back to back let by their throats spider Philip rivers, but when you've got Jared Goff home for three fifty four three sixty four girly rushing for one zero five Robert woods receiving ten for one four. That made you physically outmatched, and it does look as the Rams go back to work tomorrow. They got their playing right back here. Thursday night against the Minnesota. Vikings. Let's go back to work to the campus of California Lutheran university where the Panthers they'll go back to work tomorrow. And it does get easier. Put the chargers chargers. We'll have that game right here on sports USA next week. They will be hosting the San Francisco forty Niners Goff takes the chargers. Can't stop the clock under a minute to go. This broadcast is presented by the authorities. Sports USA, the Los Angeles chargers and Las Angeles. Rams. It may not be reproduced a retransmitted in any form the accounts and descriptions of this game may not be disseminated without the express written consent of sports USA the chargers, and the Rams you brought up an interesting point woods went over. One hundred yards is. A knee again woods going over one hundred yards on them. They only gave up one receiver all season last year went over. Oh, no, no, Corey legion. Yeah. By the way, and the Niners will be coming into Los Angeles without rally new starting quarterback. What we think it would be CJ Beth was rookie last route of Iowa grandson, of course, at the former charge of GM, Bobby Beth third and would that be some kind of historic? Jimmy garoppolo. Have we heard word yet? They initially was was born here. We've got premature fireworks here at the Coliseum. Those went off a good fifteen seconds before the game clock was complete. But now, it is wound zeros the teams have met at the middle of the field and the first ever battle of Los Angeles. As residents up the city between the chargers and Rams goes to the hometown Rams. They have now won seven of the twelve all time meetings between these two teams as the Rams, prevail. They never trailed in this one by a final score of thirty five twenty three now. Perfect three and all are the Rams on the season. The chargers drop to one and two. The Rams will face some adversity at some point in time. But not yet this season. Hey, we're gonna find out because both their corners left the game. Both off point for the Rams left the game in honor sworn week when you have key injuries. That's double indemnity now for the chargers, you get a break your the Niners coming in coming off the tough loss. And losing what we think is losing. Their quarterback. So the the targets to meet today was it was clear as this. Once you got the pump block for the touchdown. You had the charges had to play nearly perfect football to compete with a better Rams football team. They made the big mistake early and could just couldn't recover and something that won't show up on the stat sheet when you pick up the paper tomorrow, if you didn't watch this game was how much time and how well protected Jared Goff was most quarterbacks in the NFL will thrive under that system. The offensive line for the Rams today. Did a great job protecting their young quarterback. Philip rivers was under duress. I know the Ramsden get did they get one shot. I don't even know if they got they got to saps. But gosh, he was he if he wasn't sack. He was getting hit every time. He let go of the ball. I think rivers when you look at his numbers eighteen thirty two to twenty eight two touchdowns kopecks, but he played great. And speaking of that great offensive line play from the Rams, let's go down Detroit west. He's with Andrew Whitworth. Andrew another thirty point officers. Lotion woes itchy. And why is this often? So good week after week. I think just attention to detail every week we come to work the same way. I mean, you know, coach McVay, and I had a little conversation whether Friday, it's just you feel proud how hard guys work and really put their minds under the plan every week. You just got to feel good about that kind of effort. Every in the NFL is important. But this was kind of battle for LA Bill that locker room we win this game. We kind of take the hearts and minds of the LA area. Yeah. I mean, you want to continue to build your fan base and win those kind of games that are get attention and get people excited about watching the Rams play. And this is another one. Now. No rest for the weary. Here comes the Minnesota Vikings with they're going to take victory against outstanding defensive front. You know, it's going to be our greatest challenges born. I mean, they're great football team top to bottom, and we'll have to have our best to beat them. Thanks a lot spend a little time with. Thank you. The four time. Pro bowler knows they'll be back on this field on Thursday. But at least they don't have to travel. Do the Rams who are now Korean oh after thirty five twenty three win over the Los Angeles chargers..

"I try not to upset the apple cart too much but i i agree on a couple of points one it is a business foot national football league all sports teams and leagues are businesses they're in the business of making money and paying employees we work for a company we get paid to do a job and in the process of doing our job there are rules that we must obey if we do not obey those rules we do not work for the company and so that given that flat piece of evidence that what they the protest when they were told to stop doing it and they continue to do it the players throughout the league then the teams the owners have the right to take action and they have they have now come out with a rule saying if you take knee or any other way do not honor the the national anthem during that time in an appropriate manner than you have this action of staying in the locker room during the national anthem or coming out and standing during the national anthem and here are the fines well new york jets owner has already said that if any of his team's players violate that agreement he will pay the fine he has come right out and said he'll pay the fine for them so he's siding with the play players who feel as though taking a knee or in any other way showing their concerns with the treatment of and this is what it comes from it's not a disgrace of the flag or the national anthem or america this originally was a protest to show anger about the treatment of african americans by police departments in the united states what was considered unfair treatment and.
