Charles Thorngren Predicted This Banking Crisis Last November

"Today none other than the gentleman who told me back in November, Trish, this is going to be as bad as 2008. It's going to be some kind of banking crisis different, but something major well, I guess he got that one, right? Charles Thornton, welcome back to the program. What do you know, here we are, Charles Thornton, reading the tea leaves pretty well on that one. Good to have you back. Oh, it's great to be back. And I apologize for being right. We have to remember, this is very much like 2007, 2008, but worse. If we have runaway inflation, and unfortunately, and I know I said in the past, but we still have two years to go, folks. Cost. How much do things cost? No, we're going to whip it. And the budget plan is insane. And it would be a disaster fortunately. I don't think it would ever go through, but it gives you some insight into how this administration thinks. I'm troubled by the reality that even regardless of who's there, Charles, we've gotten ourselves so far in the hole that there's no easy solution out right now. It is like massive debt and deficits for decades to come, which is going to do exactly what you just said, a road, the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar. It's also goes back to, can we default? Gosh, I hope not. You have part of the institution refusing to accept financial responsibility. So at what point does the other side say, no, we're going to force you to have to accept it. And there's where that conversation of some default comes in. Maybe not all default, but maybe there's certain items that are willing to let go into default. But we can't afford that. The last time we had a really bad budget battle, the United States got downgraded. You know, our credit rating got downgraded. We haven't read that up yet.

How the White House Gave Putin a Green Light for Ukraine

"Now, we're talking about a Pakistan here, Chad and before we go, I want to make sure we have you wrap up on that, but I also want to get your take on what's happening in Russia, Ukraine, IRC, Xi Jinping, visiting Russia. This is absolutely insane. All right, so just if you would ramp up what you were talking about as far as Pakistan and the ISI yeah, I mean, just I mean, this is our enemy. This is who we've been fighting for the last 20 years when we fight when we say fight and Taliban. And the truth is, we didn't negotiate with our allies. We didn't negotiate with. We didn't negotiate with the Afghan government. We spent 20 years in place. The only people we talked to when I say we, The White House talk to was the Taliban, our enemy of 20 years, and we left Afghanistan without the consensus of the rest of the world. And we had 2500 troops there. We had 2500 troops and 20 places that can name around the world. We still have 50,000 troops in Japan and 40,000 in Germany and 35,000 in South Korea. This is not how the United States strategical leaves places and it created a catastrophe. And left Americans behind cost American lives left a 100,000 Afghan allies behind and left a 40 million vulnerable Afghans including 20 million women and little girls that we raped and for the rest of their life because of this. And so it's complete tragedy. And the world is watching our enemies are watching, which leads us into why Putin invaded Ukraine because he could. Because of the weakness in our White House and he postured against the imposture and the border with a 100,000 troops. Right. Joe, Joe Biden flinched, moved our U.S. troops out of Ukraine, moved our embassy out of Ukraine, the rest of the NATO partners followed and gave a green light for Putin to come in. And now we're sending a 113 plus $1 billion to Ukraine. None of that money is making it to help those people. It's a complete catastrophe. It's only it's only emboldening Putin and continue doing what he's doing and it's incentivizing people like zelensky who are getting all this money and never in this war because why they're making veins and dollars off of it, including corrupt politics in the United States.

What's So Special About Oil?

"We're exploring a new theme on the podcast called the anointed. Anointing is taking oil and smearing it on someone. And it has a very specific purpose. Foil marks a person replaced that the bridge between heaven and earth. Cool. But why oil? Why not wine? What's going on? So what we're going to trace down in this conversation is there's a recipe for special anointing oil. You can find it in the Torah. The recipe for anointing oil is given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai. And it's not just oil, it's oil and fused with pungent aromatic spices and it makes this incredible perfume. How creations packed with these plants that if you just ate the leaf, you would not enjoy it. But you crush it. Pulverize it, we're soak it, and then it can infuse this with a taste that just is like otherworldly. Well, I think the biblical authors want us to see in this anointing oil is the life of Eden condensed into a little dense liquid. The life of Eden begins with the water of life, filling the dry ground and forming the human, and then got spirits. Fills the human. Water and spirit. Marking humanity as a place where heaven and earth are one. And so to remember that place, or even to designate a place to be like that, we anoint it with oil. There's moments when through liquid and spirit, a person a place is marked as a special portal between heaven and earth to bring about that reunion of heaven and earth in some way. And I think that's where all of a sudden all these themes come crashing together. Of the liquid life and the spirit are joined images. And that's what anointing means in the Bible.

A Prayer for the One Feeling Overwhelmed

"You see, the world says to have peace, you have to be on a luxurious vacation in Malibu. Or to have peace, you have to have complete financial security, a great job, and a 401k to boot. The world says that you'll finally have peace when your life looks like someone else's Instagram feed. This world offers fake peace that leaves us chasing a moving target. Jesus said, you will have peace when you have my spirit because the fruit of the spirit is peace. Galatians 5 22 through 23. This is a piece that we can get from this world. This kind of piece only comes from a relationship with God. This kind of piece is at rattled one our finances aren't where we want them to be. Or worse when we are in financial despair. Jesus piece is still there as we wait for daily breath. Sometimes moment by moment. The peace that God gives helps us to celebrate others accomplishments. And gives thanks for what God has generously given us. So when my heart is troubled and anxious, I have to ask myself, where are you looking for peace? We signed our peace and God, the Holy Spirit empowers us to live in a way that baffles the world. Onlookers, don't understand how we can be so peaceful. While they frantically search for what can only be found in Christ. So today, when you're overwhelmed instead of looking to the world for a reprieve, ask God for his feast. Let's pray. Dear lord, thank you for giving us the gift of a relationship with you through the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Look how you don't stop there. You also ensure that we know you have not abandoned us by giving us the gift of your Holy Spirit. Laurel, we face difficulties, and we get overwhelmed, we have the assurance that you are with us because we have your spirit living inside of us. And God with that you give us the unshakable gift of peace. Lord, I pray you would help us to remember where we find true rest and true peace. Or forgive us for chasing down peace from this world. Lord, as you know, it never lasts. More money does not lead to more peace, it creates no problems. More security just leads to more frenzied attempts at managing our lives. In attending to live someone else's life, robs us of all joy. Jesus I pray you give us the strength to turn away from these false sources of peace. Help us turn to you that. You give us peace that the world can not give. In the world can not take away. Jesus help us believe and trust that every word you say is true, you are with us, you are for us, and you will give us peace, so we don't have to be troubled or afraid. In Jesus name,

Barry Meguiar: "Our Growth Spurts Are in Times of Trouble"

"My friend Barry Maguire, the book is ignite your life, defeat fear with effortless faith, sounds like a lot of baloney. Here's the problem. It's 1000% true. And there are people out there that say, I don't know, I don't know. And I believe you have to be around people who live this way because if unless you see it, you can't believe that they're the people who do this way. So I began that when I first became a Christian in 1988, I was at St. Paul's Darien. We've had my friend Keith junta on the show. I saw people who live this way, and then we all started going to Times Square church. And the people at Times Square church tended to live this way. David wilkerson, who was your friend for 40 years, lived this way. And I remember he preached a sermon. We talked about it at dinner last night. The sermon was titled right song, wrong side. I love it. And I was so affected by this sermon that over 20 years later, when I was asked to preach a Times Square church, I said, I bet you most of the people in this room have never heard this. So I halfway preached that sermon again. And that sermon sums up what we're talking about. David wow, because I mean, it's such a brilliant idea. He says that when the Israelites were trapped at the Red Sea, and pharaoh's armies coming down on them, and they're freaking out. Well, we know what happened. God parts the Red Sea. They go through. They come out the other side. The seas come back together. Pharaoh's army is drowned, and then when they're on the other side of the Red Sea, they sing the song. Then they sing. They sing the song praising God and praising God, and David wilkerson preach a sermon talking about they should have sung that song of deliverance before God delivered them because if you know who God is, you praise him in the midst of trouble. Yes. When bad things happen, you say, ah, this is a Friends are perfecting us. I thank God for every bad thing that's happened in our lives. Karen and I both do because we see our growth spurts are in times of trouble. We don't grow when we're in the mountaintop. It's during those tough times that we learn who God is. I thank God for all the tough times, including the death of our daughter. She's in heaven's celebrate. She's having the time of her life right now. And I'm going to be with her for eternity. So a thousand people came to her funeral. And I spoke at the funeral. There's a video of her funeral, okay? Nicole Maguire celebration of life. 11 thousand people have watched that video and hundreds have been saved. By watching the video of funeral. You know why? Because it was like, I knew most people watching me would not be Christians. And I wanted to say that my joy was not affected by circumstances. You know there's an interesting happiness and joy. We can be happy and unhappy throughout every day. That circumstantial. Joy, when you have joy, you just know God is there. It never leaves you. You have joy no matter what the world throws at you.

"leafs " Discussed on The Ray & Dregs Hockey Podcast

"To see a ton of it because you were traveling, but double streak has stopped at 13 and I say weird because anybody watched it, there were three disallowed goals. Two of her goalie interference, one because Erika directed the puck into the net with his skate. That had devil's fans absolutely fuming. His amusing until they start throwing stuff on the ice and it's hitting players and it becomes a dangerous environment. I mean, we haven't seen that in a long time. Here's hoping we don't see it ever again in the National Hockey League, but just one of those kind of combustible situations. Yeah, it's a real scary place when things start flying out of the stands and you're on the ice. There's just, there's no where to go. You can't see where anything's coming from. When I was playing in Portland in the western Hockey League, we played in the old building in Seattle, which was an absolute zoo. It had chicken wire fence. Instead of glass, so the fans, like you'd be standing there, the fans would literally throw beer through the fencing onto you as your stance. There was stuff flying on the ice all over the place. And you just, you just never felt safe in there. Gets out of hand to become the mob mentality, and it's dangerous. You could throw anything on the ice and the potential for danger is there, right? Like it doesn't have to be something hard. It could be almost anything if somebody steps on it. If they don't clean it up, you know, or get it all off the ice, it becomes a danger. Greg, we played a game I was with Hartford and we were in Quebec and Carrie frazer was officiating. And he called a bunch of penalties and late in the third period on the nordiques and I don't know what the hell they did, but I think they opened up a supply closet. There were literally hundreds of rolls of toilet paper thrown on the ice and it would hit and then on travel. And so we're watching it. We're like, what the hell is going on? And so they eventually just canceled the game. I think with just less than a minute left. What's happening yesterday? That's dangerous. It's stupid. Because the potential for injury is there. Well, it forces the National Hockey League to do something knee jerk, right? I mean, you talk with your security people, you find out, okay, did we do enough? And I think the answer is yes. I mean, you can only stop it to a point, but the league pro sport in general does good things when it comes to incidents like this, because they have internal conversations, and they strategize, and they try and figure out ways to prevent it from happening again. So we'll see if there's any form of aftermath. A couple of small trades they want your opinion on because small trades don't always end up being small trades. The Toronto Maple Leafs acquire Connor Timmons from Arizona, no shock given the history of Timmons, right? A former Sioux Greyhound so that's right on there on the list of criteria that Kyle dubas holds near and dear to his heart. Given an opportunity, I don't know if you've seen enough of Connor Timmons at the NHL level. To ascertain what he's going to be, but I did a bit of reading today and some who know him well dating back to the OHL days talk about how good a defenseman he potentially will be terrific in exiting the puck out of his own zone, all of that. What's the risk, right? When you're giving up a piece that isn't going to fit into your plan moving forward. Now, I haven't seen Tim's play at the NHL level. He's had concussion issues that have plagued him throughout his career. When he was on the world junior team, he was really good. Like he was a well thought after prospect. I think second round pick by Colorado, out of the draft, and then he just never got on track. And so he's kind of lost his way through really no fault of his own just through injury. I don't mind this trade at all. I mean, if you're looking that maybe maybe there's lightning here, like maybe you get a player that can play. It's not like he's never played in the NHL before. He just hasn't stayed healthy enough to build any kind of resume to see what he would be like at this level. I was trying to think today. In the mid 80s, the least drafted every first round pick out of belleville, I think. It was one think you're right. I think you're right. And it's like, is that where the whole scouting department was or did they just live in belleville or like what the hell was going on there? Saint Marie Greyhound float around that chances are he's ending up in Toronto. So I hope for Tim and sake. That he can get his feet under him. I mean, he's had a real hard work. To really no fault of his own. Right, and leafs fans shouldn't be confused by this. I mean, he's a depth ad. If he places way into a higher role, then good for Connor Timmons and good for the Maple Leafs been Kyle dubas is still going to continue to the work from the market. He needs some more significant upgrade. Well, in the other thing, Drake's story Drake's just a touch one thing. Aside from cap issues, which are the same for almost everybody, is there at 50 contracts. So they're in a tough spot in Toronto. They play her in player has to go. Aside from the money, player has to go up because you're only allowed 50 contracts. So the challenges are great right now for them. A friend of the podcast Billy garen swinging a deal acquiring some size, some personality, obvious toughness and Ryan Reeves from the New York rangers Reeves going to the Minnesota wild and I'm always amused by the opinion and the aftermath of a deal like this, right? Some who are quick to jump out and say, oh, jeez, well, why didn't our team get in on that? A 5th round wrath pick are you kidding me? Like, you know, this team could have used Ryan Reeves, this team could have used crime Reeves, and then you've got the others that say jeez, I'm surprised they even got a 5th forum. I mean, the word was the rangers were going to put him on waivers in a week. We don't know any of them. But what we know is that Billy garin is history with Ryan Reeves and obviously likes of what he's going to bring to the wild that makes it a worthwhile experiment. Well, yes, I mean, so you got to remember like last year when the wild took that big leap. One of the things they were was a great strength that theirs was, they were really hard to play against. They were physical, they had a forge line while they had that third line with greenway, Eric snack, and felino and they were good and their big, like they're big. Then that branded douhan was on their fourth line. He's been hurt. Foligno's been hurt. Green wave's been heard. They lose Ryan Hartman, who had a great year 30 plus goals, but just an agitating guy to play against. So they're clearly trying to build again add on to that type of game. Now, I've seen Reeves a couple of times this year. And I don't know exactly if the pace is something that's favorable to him. And the other thing is probably find less and less volunteers to fight them. Many guys that are around that are going to want to even attempt that. So I'll be interested to see where what Minnesota does. I mean, they had a little cap space because they cleared some out. They've got some guys that hurt me in particular could go on LTIR. They lose Tyson jost on waivers. So that's a little more cap room. So they're kind of moving some deck chairs around to see if they can find a stride a little bit better. Let's go to Vancouver. All right, we have spanked and kicked around the Vancouver Canucks with good reason for much of this podcast season. But a nice win last night against the defending Stanley Cup champion avalanche. They scored two in the third to beat the abs, which is significant because the third has been a weak spot for the Vancouver Canucks this year, full horvat with another big effort. Second in time on ice only behind Quinn Hughes, Oliver ekman Larsson, I mean, he seemed more engaged than we've seen him. Patterson, he looked good all around. I mean, it's something, isn't it? It's something. It's something that the market can kind of just relax a little bit. I mean, it's not to say that they're heading in a completely different direction for the rest of this year, but it's something. It adds, I mean, they lose to Vegas with another two goal lead on Monday, and then they go to Colorado. I mean, that's a pretty tough week. And you got to give a check mark here to Spencer Martin, who is the a picked him up off the scrap heap and Colorado last year. And he was in the American League and they gave him a late season chance and man, all credit to him. He took the ball and turned it into an NHL deal. And he's been terrific this year for them. So you go into Colorado and I know Colorado's banged up, but by the way, their record with the amount of people out of the lineup is really quite remarkable. Like significant pieces out of that line. But Vancouver goes in and horvat's had an amazing start. This is the Patterson that I thought I saw in his rookie season, the one that reminded me a little bit of Pavel datsu. And they get a win. And Matt, just to breathe a little bit. But how about this? I'm looking at the stand. They got 17 points. In Vancouver. You know, it's been, you know, it's been a tire fire for parts of the season. And Edmonton's got 20 points. They're not far from what a playoff spot might look like. How's that all going to play out? I don't know, bull horror bat's not going to score like this the rest of the season. But if they can, I mean, the whole key for them is can they find a way to defend well enough? To let their offense carry the load because they're going to score. They've got enough people to score. I was going to touch on this and insider trading tonight being Thursday, but out of respect to for a solving in his passing, we've just decided that we're going to focus on the tribute on TSN. So we're not doing insider trading, but curious speculation around four. And we understand that, you know, because there hasn't been a contract extension. It seems relatively quiet on that front. So that in and of itself fuels the speculation of trade, but I know Vancouver wants to keep him. I mean, they recognize his value. They can see the type of character he is and to your point, okay, he's not going to, he's not going to go wired a wire with this level of offense that they've seen enough to know that he's in the interesting and needed peace moving forward. So we, in the media, I'm not looking at you ray. I'm looking at me and looking at others. We get a pump the brakes on the speculation just because the negotiation hasn't concluded to this point. Maybe even as in started with any sense of vaguer to this point, it doesn't mean they're shopping them. I know they're not shopping them and I know they want to keep them now in Vancouver. So I was going to share that insider trading. Let's see what that I mean every day until there is a contract done or a trade made. It's always going to be talked about. I mean, the one thing I would say you have to be careful of is if you don't think your team is good enough and you sign before that to 8 years times 7, if that's the number, then you've basically got the same team and you've just paid for that more money. And so you have to find a way to change the team outside a four vats deal. If that's what they're going to do. So I mean, it's amazing to watch. It's like he literally scores every game. It's unbelievable. I know. So I'm happy for him though. You know, he's one of those guys, I'm happy the puck is going in for him when he's playing this well. He is. He's done everything. Everything that he could ask. Everything that they could hold for. He's done. And where that leads, you know what the next couple months are going to tell us. Yeah. A couple more in the headlines. Then we'll move on. Your thoughts on Dallas, man. I mean, new coach Pete deboer we know is an excellent coach. No surprise there. Goaltending has been good, the old cliche, their best players, are contributing like top players do. That's helping the Dallas stars. But have you seen enough to know they're going to be a force? Not just in the west, but maybe in the league this year, right? Well, I mean, Jake gottinger gave you no choice but to stand up and take notice of him last year in the playoffs. He's going to tremendous player. Jason Robertson's on an amazing run right now coming off of 40 school year. What about Jamie band kind of finding a little jump in his life? Yeah, it becomes really interesting. A different style of play, a different approach to the game, much like Bruce Cassidy took a different style to Vegas, Jim Montgomery took a different style to Boston, Pete the board took a different style to Dallas. Sometimes it's just the right thing. How about every year, every June we go to the draft or we watch the draft and nameless kids outside of the first round. We don't know who most of them are. They just get drafted and they're like, oh, I heard that guy's a good prospect. This guy's a good prospect. The Dallas draft with mero hey skin and also included Jason Robertson and Jake. Same drive. Not bad. You know, it's almost like the last draft that Al Murray had with the Los Angeles kings, his parting gift was Audrey Cooper and Jonathan quick. And so these guys get drafted and you don't know how they're gonna turn out ridiculous. And here they are. So Dallas is Dallas is starting to make me go jeez, I gotta start watching them a little closer. I got a game coming up in Dallas, I'm really looking forward to it. All right, thoughts on Shane Wright. I mean, we pay attention nationally because the kid goes forth overall and was touted as going first overall until he didn't go first overall, but he scores his first professional goal in the American Hockey League as the Seattle kraken scratched him for 5 times, which then allowed him to send him to the AHL on a conditioning stint. High school, too, but really, but he'll get loaned to team Canada. Yeah, you'll get loaned to team Canada for the world junior championship. And then you wonder, well, what happens after that? And feel bad for the kid because he's stuck in that gray area, right? You and I are strong supporters of the Canadian Hockey League. We want the best available players playing in the. But there comes a place where player needs to also push his development. And with all due respect, the Kingston or if he gets traded in the OHL, I honestly, it doesn't feel like that's the right place for Shane Wright, but the press box in Seattle is in the right place for Sheen right either. Well, I know that's not the right place for sure. Every time I hear a coach or a manager say, oh, you know, he's learning and practice and being around the NHL team. The only thing that he's learning is that his paycheck is way better. Because you can, what do you think he's thinking, game after game after game? He's just finished practice. He's just finished the board 8 skate. He does a bag skate. Then he goes to the gym. Like this socks. I mean, I'm sure I'm sure those kids love being in the NHL, but it sucks. It's just not the right place for me. The one thing about the NHL that is always kind of interested me is that they're not very open to exceptions. It's like, this is the rule and there's no exception. Like, what if each team was allowed one player? Just one. To jump to the American League. Not for shrouds in case the team has three of them, just one player. Kind of like the exceptional status and in major junior hockey. What if there was an exception that a drafted player could go off your salary cap? Just to open up some options. So she writes stock in like he's going back to junior's not the best place for him, but I do know sitting around and not playing that will get old in a hurry. No doubt about that. It's time to wrap up another week on The Rain rigs hockey podcast with a good pal Chris Abbott, who joins us twice per week, brought to you by botana dot CA now available in Ontario. Here's the catchy tagline, but tano, the game starts. Now, we will get to the NFL game of the week, but it doesn't seem nearly as important than what's going on in Qatar. And that is the World Cup of soccer. I mean, I was in a pub with a couple of buddies watching Canada and Belgium on Wednesday. So I'm now hooked into it. So we're going to spend a little bit of time looking at Sunday's game Croatia and Canada because according to John herdman, Canada is going to F Croatia. That's what's going to happen. Does that work into a betting line in some formats? Well, I tell you. What did happen is the betting lines came a lot closer for Canada after their performance against Belgium because I don't care who you are. Nobody saw that coming. We tweeted a little gift that reminded me of the movie miracle, right? When her Brooks says you don't defend them, you attack them. And that's what I felt like happened in that match on Wednesday afternoon. So what has happened is Canada is now come a lot closer to Croatia. So yesterday I bet Canada to win or draw, which was still almost two to one odds. That's now minus one 33 to do that against Croatia. So let's say there's some believers already in the Betty markets with this Canadian team, which us Canadians knew, right? We knew this was a pretty good squad. Maybe didn't know how well they'd show out on Wednesday. No, I agree, except I do worry that you got to be careful with emotionality of what we saw. I'd say the two things I worry about is that a Canada played their best game and they can't get to that level again. I mean, I thought they were amazing. It was so fun to watch them and they literally had Belgium on their back foot. Most of the day. That's worry number one. Number two is teams that seem to do well in this tournament get better as the tournament goes along. And I think Croatia will be better in game two than they were in game one. I mean, historically as long as I've been watching it, that's kind of the way it seems to go. But I'll tell you, I just thought it was amazing to I was in a large at air Canada flying over the Germany here and man, the place was going wild and, you know, I had to leave the kid with a boat 20 minutes left at all, I couldn't believe it. I had so we saw a good portion of that first half, which was so great. Abs, like run us through some betting options here. And if it's not just, if you can be specific to Canada Croatia, if you want, but World Cup in general, I mean, it's virtually endless. Yeah, I mean, that botanical we've got like 500 markets per match available as you get closer to kick-off. Even right now, with the Canadian match on Sunday, there's 300 options. So some of the ones I ran through the money line and all that that we're used to betting the over under, which has both teams to score at minus one 15 or you can bet over two and a half goals itself at plus one 12, or you can bet both teams to score and over two and a half, both teams to score or over two and a half. But there's one that I really like, and this is how granular you can get with it. What will happen first in the match, a goal throw in at minus one 82 all the way up to a goal scored at plus 4900. Free kick, goal kick corner kicks. You can bet which of those things will happen first in the match. Method of goal, whether it's a shot, a head or an own goal, a free kick, a penalty. There's so much out there and it's because, you know, the Europeans who really put sports betting on the map. This is their big event. So if you can, if you can, if you can dream it, it's up there. So what do you got, Drake? What are you going to take? Are you going to have one? I think both teams are going to be. There's going to be mine. I think both teams score. I disagree. I don't think Canada scores. I think Croatia wins. I think it will be tight as it was against Belgium. They missed too many chances against Belgium. And I know nothing about soccer, but even I was confused. While Alfonso Davies took the penalty, in a I'm yelling at my TV, where's Jonathan David, along with all the other soccer experts in the pub. So I'm saying that it's Croatia. Ray, I'm wondering what the real analysts that we care about for this sport had to say out of your house. Incredibly sour, so excited and so disappointed. It was really cool to watch, watch my boys be excited as they were. The 12 year old Reese, one of the great negotiators on the planet, somehow he stayed home. And I mean, the game was 11. There's no point going in early. And then, come on, mom, dad, whatever. Wreath was at home, Riley, Riley went to school, but they left school at 11. And the academy went to the cafeteria to watch the game. So I'm sure they had just good for them. Yeah. What should happen? I was really happy. Even non soccer people. Non sport people were drawn into the enormity of this and the excitement of it. It was an amazing day. And there's two more cracks at it and you just

"I'm sure there's going to be a lot of overreacting but, you know, I think it's kind of warranted. I mean, that's embarrassing, do it? Anything is the Bruins had a legit number one defenseman, who was their captain that the Leafs game, greatest, Morgan, Riley is points-wise. I wouldn't consider him a perennial number one defenseman in this league. I just I wouldn't and I just find it hilarious like this morning. I opened Twitter dead. And J fresh on Twitter tweets. So... Mitch Marner for Seth Jones and it's just and that will help. That'll be the most Maple Leaf shit in the world. Yes, that'd be another young person. Taylor Hall, type type deal. I just, I can't get over. I think it's hilarious. I think it's funny. It's embarrassing. It is perfectly Toronto and you and you expected it. Like, he just couldn't believe that. It's like, no, it's the leaves. You, you can go, right? You can believe that's par for the course. So another year, another another first-round exit for the Leafs. There's so much to dissect from it off and it's I feel so bad for the front line workers in Toronto. You know they do their first game, they get to their vaccinated. They're so excited to go see their Leafs play in person. It's like damn, you know, all this work. I get to go watch the Leafs game 7. Well, maybe for them. It's like the the the first reminder that life is getting back to normal and that you know the the like leads are once again, choked noise first round exit so it's your ceiling off. Course so yeah, that's the Leafs that's our leaves minute. They still suck and they'll probably be back in the division next year. I'll be back with the Bruins, the lightning. So have fun with more first-round exits guys cuz there's no way out of that one. I wonder if they do blow it up, though. I do wonder if you know they make some big move to kind of send a message, cuz I mean what do you do? After you picked a tough year, like I'm completely changed his right because you've got a flat cap, you've also, I mean, never doubt a dumbass team that's kind of like take Monitor and like over pay for them when she hasn't shown up and hasn't scored a goal. What is it? Eighteen sixteen to eighteen, eighteen straight, playoff games, a lot of goal? Which, I mean, maybe some what? What seems like the the wage? I don't like a dogshit franchise, like the coyotes where it's like, well, he's going to score a bunch of points. The regular season, get tickets for us. So we don't, we could give less of a shit but still it's even if you found a team that would take a guy like that. Yep. Just been done in terms of moving the pieces. Now with the flat cap, you know, we start last year where we thought, there's going to be a lot more movement and the guys were signing, one year deals or you had a nice. It's like, you know, do Clan these guys signing contracts, like right ahead of Camp. So not really the best year too. Clearly change gears with your cord that you've expected to probably be making multiple to The Cup Final by this point. But it's yeah, it's embarrassing. I mean, you ever think they hit a new low, but I think that one's right up there cuz you as much as I think, Bruins fans hop on 29th and how they'll never have a better easier road to get to a cup..

"Repeat offenders steve. He's a repeat offender within ninety seconds. Okay okay so he doesn't want he goes back into it again. Okay as you're talking. I didn't see it okay. But all they gotta do. Steve is forget everything. Okay forget the safety guy. Okay for now. Okay forget the whole department of player safety. Forget video review under these circumstances. Okay guys are repeat offenders steve okay. That's the only that's the number one thing we're going to look. And if he's a repeat offender. Okay we don't care about anything else. Okay you got ten fucking games right you. If you start to repeat then you got. It's gotta be no problem. Ten minimum ten minimum. If you've got suspended for a game for something or two games okay. If you do it again you're getting ten under. What law the repeat offender law. That's what's happening. That's what they gotta do. Some certainly some nuclear deterrent would be helpful for sure. I don't think that concept of i for an eye like okay. How long is the victim out four. Well that the hitter or the offender. He has to stay out exactly as long as them. Because let's say it's I don't know mark stone and not ryan reaves mark stone. The captain of the team probably their best ford and you could easily say okay. We're going to go ahead and Tell our guy he's out for the rest of the series as we we'd rather have mark stone out of the series than have our guy in. So that's the flaw. In that. But i i like the intent for more severity in terms of the consequences is just a silly. If it's a spendable offense okay. right if if if if this thing is obviously suspended okay so you need that for sure and then it's repeat offender number one right ten games. I don't care who is. But i'm all about it. Yeah i i. it's all about and i deal with this quite a bit in in the world of autism. In when you're teaching kids it's all about Behavior analysis and if the consequences aren't there you just you have to have appropriate to the positive and the negative and it just it. It's basic human skills right. That i just don't know why they don't deal with leg. Take a note from tennis because When you look at the french open. They're all over. Naomi osaka right away. She basically not threatened but she just let everybody know going into the tournament that because of concerns for a mental health. She was not going to be speaking with the media at the tournament. Hope you're cool with that. The french open after the very first round when she wins her first match basically hits her with a big fine and also a lot of dialogue and language. About all right just so you know that this is going to get bigger and you also are in a position where we might kick you out of the tournament altogether right and so. That's that's harsh punishment. Harsh consequence and osaka took that like okay. I'm i'm leaving and she's now out of the tournament she's withdrawn completely from the french. Open this the number two tennis player in the world. And that's where she's at right now. She didn't want this to be a distraction but she did talk about. She's medically got a mental health issue. She's got anxiety and She didn't want her thing to be a big thing with everybody. Else in distract from things and So it's too bad it came to that. I'll tell you what steve. this is. One of the biggest stories. I've heard in a long time longtime biggest sports story. I in a longtime for a couple reasons. So i can't backpedal on on what i said yesterday or the previous show about i understand. She has mental issue. Do not wanna mess with people about that You know but but that was her reason for not. Granting interviews at the french open was because of anxiety stress and all that stuff so my issue there is but you but you're involved in making a living in a highly stressful anxious thing right. It's like parents. Steve who say there's nothing i wouldn't do for my kids wouldn't do for my kids. I would lay down for my kids. I would take a bullet for right now. I'll do all that and then when someone says well one of the problems with your child is acting out. Is you know maybe if you could spend every off if you could spend afternoons with them at home that maybe that'll help the child while you're no no i can't i'm working. I'm working. i can't oh okay so you're really not prepared to do anything for your kid right. And so my point with her is it's the same as sean penn saying you know. I hate photographers. I hate the attempt on all that stuff and yet. I'm going to be an actor and i understand. She has stress. Okay i understand. She has anxiety and that stuff. But if it's that big problem than maybe maybe the the deal you're in his is causing a lot of it. Generally steve okay high performance athlete. Okay so. I can't take back what i said about. I think she has to do the press conferences. I think she should now. I'll tell you what this kid gets. Unbelievable kudos for me for what she pulled off today. Okay it's absolutely the best move that no one ever saw coming as a follow up to what could happen when the french open says. Oh yeah we got you okay. So you're sitting down steve. Okay you're an organizer to the french gone. We got her colts here. We got her quarter. This girl wakes up and goes okay. How about this. I'm pulling out of the tournament. Right boom stevie. I don't feel like her. Withdrawing was know sticking it to them or anything like that it may well have been. I don't know but it sounded like she was sincerely concerned that she was being a distraction and And didn't want that to be the case but you know what who knows. I mean her agent may have said you know what this is. How we handle it and She wants change. I think there's no question about that. First of all serena williams had a good quote today. She said the only thing i feel is that i feel for naomi. I feel like. I wish i could give her a hug. Because i know what it's like like. I said i've been in those positions. We have different personalities and people are different. Not everyone is the same right me me. i'm thick. Other people have thick. Everyone is different and everyone handles things differently. And asaka those questions obviously get to her again. She deals with mental health issues. She deals with anxiety. And i guess the question is do you want to. Should there be some sort of concern. I other players really looking at boycotting the media the way oh sokha was talking about. Because that's that's the only concern. I would have if this is a one off for a tennis player. Who has a different personality in psyche than most. Maybe you go ahead and say hey. If you're a tennis player was a doctor's note that says you deal with this stuff than than maybe you do get a pass and only once in a while. do these types of these interviews. The question becomes are other tennis players. Going to take advantage of that and it's because they don't like the media they can handle the media but they just they just rather not yeah. You know there's a few examples. I first of all my my point about is there. You won't do for your kid you know is if if someone's going to and say is there nothing. Would you do anything to help with. Mental illness is there. Nothing will do to improve your mental health and her answer is going to be. Yes and then someone's going to say okay. Well you pull out of the french.

"They went three one. Yeah i've i've heard guys you know you need the good goaltending right. You have to have a good goaltending of course to win the stanley cup. You don't always have to have it in the first round. You know you can get away with some shit but you can't y when you're up three one stevie was talking to rusty When you're up three one in a series okay. The goal tender's job is done okay. He's done he's done. He's done his deal okay. He's done what you give me the three one. Don't you worry okay. We can't miss right. I mean it's not the first time a teams lost in avesta seven being up three one. But no that's what russ was talking about If you're up three fuck. I mean how can it be right. How bad can it be so he started tonight. They could use them again. One more time. I mean i know what you're saying. The goaltender has done a very good job to get you through the first four games of three one lead. But that doesn't mean. I don't think that you can call it a series either and then tonight to just to give up a goal. The timing of that was just awful. Meanwhile carry price was outstanding. Though the referees didn't want him to be. I guess ready or something. You know the start of a hockey game. The referee brings everybody to center is opening face off of the whole thing and he'll point at one goalie. You ready down there buddy right and then you pointed the other goalie h. E. you ready. Okay let's go and they drop the puck with forgot to do that and carry. Price has got his back to the whole play. The play the game had begun. He's got his gloves on the top of the next and he's looking all of a sudden he whips around like what the game started. And he's got a turnaround. Get his gear on and they're really lucky that That didn't come back to haunt to make it easily ice. The puck and scored right. I would have been. That'd be funny very funny. Very weird very weird for sure. So i carry. Price was excellent again. And i think he's men and a lot of people complain about his big insane long term contract. But that's a guy that if i had to play the olympics right now and i'm gretzky running team canada whoever's running at night forget exactly who's Who's the gm of the club these galardo. I love galardo anyway. I actually think it's armstrong from saint. Louis come not mistake anyway. If i'm that. Gm i'm making carry price team canada's goalie again. Despite his advancing years he was. He was that good in this series. So what's your deal now. Stevie on on montreal going forward here are they. Are they know a saint louis are. They contend to here where where they sneak into the playoffs. They're the lowest ranked team. They were the the least favored to you in the first round for sure right for sure right it was it was wildly lopsided or supposed looking like it was going to be absolutely not to answer your question. Have no chance. Winnipeg jets are extremely well rested and now healed up as well. They've been sitting back with their feet up in the autumn and watching these guys kick the crap out of each other. Remember the jets won in a sweep as you may remember jason anyway montreal. I think they You know i say one point tonight was an shirati. Looked like he was injured in the game and he's been one of their best defenseman montreal's exhausted probably banged up and they're going to be full letdown mode after winning a series like this when there are such underdogs a sort of their many stanley cup and then all of a sudden in a without very much time off. They're going to be asked to get right into the bee's nest of a new series and the jets are sitting there laying in wait. So what do you think. Lee fans are saying. Then steve what what what. What's going on tonight in toronto. What's going on on twitter. Well i can tell you exactly because a buddy of mine is a lee fan. He was like he just he just basically said three words to me it's just demoralizing and he's like i don't know what i don't even know what the logical management response is to that you know i mean maybe martyrs and matthews figure it out some day and run off a couple of cops but right now it's certainly not feeling like it and that's probably a good snapshot of what the average daily fantasy taking the window to me. Let's take a time out of the program when we come back. We're going to give you an update on naomi osaka at the french open. She's actually gone now from the french open. She's walked away from it. She's withdrawn after her media ban that She put out there Going into the events. We'll talk about that and You know ryan reaves. Just of the vegas golden knights. Just another tom wilson scenario He got two game suspension for what he did in game one Between vegas and colorado. So we'll talk about that coming up after these words. Did you know that jim. Kaye ford has been around since eighty to one of the longest running dealerships in ottawa. The k. family proudly strives to provide the best service in the automotive market with the help of their fantastic seem of professionals. They're continually training and improving to ensure you always have the finest buying experience. See what they're all about shop for your next vehicle and make your today at jim. Everyone knows that to get the best price on home and auto insurance you have to shop around but who really wants to do that with access to all kinds of insurance markets not only can get you the best price but also make sure that you get full value for your money. Call me under all insurance ontario. Your modern boutique broker. So biggest ford ryan reaves. James was suspended. Two games by the nhl today for roughing unsportsmanlike conduct on a greaves ryan. Reaves ryan graves to say green ryan graves. Anyway that's happened during the seven. One loss in game one of the second round series on sunday and i think the guys actually lucky that he got away with a two gamer like basically ryan reaves is a skirmish in front of the colorado net and puts the full weight of his knee on ryan greaves. Head no no raise grave stuck. He's saying greaves. Wanna say the ryan regan identify at names. Get noisy yeah exactly exactly. And it was ugly and he went to a twice. He had his knees straight on the guys Head neck and then went off for a minute and then the skirmish continued and then fights broke out elsewhere and he took that to mean. I better get my knee. Backup on graves head again and graves his injured. I think he left the game. And just what is this like. It's not the usc buddy. What are you doing and you just. It's another repeat offender. We've talked about it with Nazem kadri we've talked about with tom. Wilson why these guys are continually allowed to do what they do committing. Their mayhem is to me well. You don't they gotta do steve. I'm we've talked about it right. There's a everywhere from and there's some merit to it where And though it's never happened. One of the one of the really good arguments one of the really interesting sides to this thing is they gotta miss at least as much as the guy they injured. Okay right that's that's that's been floated out there for a long time That that's if if if they're not going to do that. In lieu of that. Then steve if they were saying well. We can't do that right. Which which you know some people go. Why not you know if i had the answer if you want okay but but if you want to stop a guy from not only.

"You guys play just like your high on man. It really was only a matter of time. All what a glorious day i'm strutting. I'm crowing celebrating. I'm busting jerry. I'm boston james tonight. Hang on. I want to do it. I to live blues rock close. I mean remember the national media season. They're out there pretending to be objective but in reality tongue bathing the blue team at every turn they keep asking like these slobbering bull terriers. Is this the the year for the leafs. Finally all the pieces are in place. Is this the year. And i don't know if you mean is the leaves year to lose to the lowest ranked playoff team in round one. You amine. It's the leafs year to blow a three one series. Lead is at the year the leave suck ass again. Yes yes it is all those things. You don't feel sorry for them at all. Steve a little bit. no nothing. maybe. I've got a couple of reasonable leaf fans. I feel kind of badly for them but No no it says because because of what the media does and what lee fans due in their here in ottawa. I have a hard time feeling any sympathy whatsoever. It's it's in my nature really well. It's it's fun you know it's fun right. Of course right i. it's sorta the gentle ribbing happens fan. I am beliefs in helped win. The peds lose although in my neighborhood. Cvs always driving around. There's a couple sitting in their driveway. It's beautiful here today. Nice weather it's going to be nice. All we nice guy. They've got the television out okay. And they're eating dinner and they've got the game on okay so the fun thing so i stopped. What's up. you know. I go up out of the car. Watch a bit of it there. The guy goes What's the score at. At that point it was one. Nothing okay one zip and a cheering for him. The guy's frenchaccent halves again cheering for the apps and his wife's there and i go you who you cheering for the leafs right. I said okay okay. That's my and the husband goes. But but i don't know why you're cheering for the leafs. She says fuck you. Oh wow gonna little stevie. He got a little heated with the couple. Okay i thought this whole thing's supposed to be sort of a deal. I guess right you live in edmonton. You know you've got. The little leafs. Halves rivalry gone might might be grounds for an old man. Steve maybe in the ad inside that is going to be a very romantic ending to the evening. I don't think Somebody is sleeping on the couch one or the other and the other one had party favors going on whooping it up. Yeah there's there's rabid fans out there stevie leads nor will ever compare certainly in this country of course right the they'll be nothing. Nothing will ever be like. Nothing will ever replace it. No rivalry nothing nothing. I can't think of anything. Steve any sport in our country. And you know you don't travel very often the states but i have and You know the leafs fans irs like there's a million more than that more than a million canadians who live in la. You know right right. Who's who are who are hockey fans but anyway it's it's it's a great rivalry now. It's divided the nation really. I mean what's funny though is that they've really not met very often. This is only the third time since nineteen sixty seven. I guess They've actually met. They met a couple of times in the late seventies. And then this year and it's kind of weird when you think about it because like for most of the nhl is history started in nineteen seventeen. And they're only four teams so for the most part through the entire first fifty years of the nhl history. There were only four to six teams. It was a very small league reizo. The lifson has represented a third of the league and yet they only have met in a hundred and four years sixteen times. Oh it back in that day. Oh yeah sixteen. Times total in the history of the nhl. So it's kinda weird they they haven't gotten together more frequently than they have. And so i think that's a little something something to it. Not only is it a great first round upset for the montreal canadians but it's against a a very good team and for older fans in particular who used to watch one of those teams every single saturday night when that was all you really had to watch. It had kind of a special feel to this year. Well i'll tell you what else is unique. Which makes it unique for. Sure i've had the i had last night. I was watching television and a local newscast. Now the oilers are out. Of course. So i don't know if they're glomming onto try and create stories but i think they would have done this anyways even if the orders were in there they had a whole they had. They had a fifteen minute piece on lifson halves fans in edmond. Ok like the on the street. You know showing people's houses. How their decorating is this is. This is kind of crazy. The old leaf the leaf sent thing so yeah like like a full on full on ten minutes stevie on the news last night i loved the least in the house with a history of it and all this stuff so there you have it. How do they loose tv. Leave people so they let fans into the game which was weird. We knew that In game six montreal had twenty five hundred fans in quebec seems to be a little more relaxed. I guess when it comes to shutdown stuff but out of the blue earlier today because we're recording this on the game day itself and They actually had a deal where they let five hundred fifty fans into the game and it was was they let all the All the frontline workers although the nurses and doctors and all the usual suspects who helped us through cova here and the gag online was got having those poor people had enough. All sure senegalese game. Now dare you anyway. It was a it was a kind of neat to see everybody there and and it just makes the game to have fans in the stands couple of notes on the game itself. I honestly thought that you got crap that really set the leaves back. I that gallagher goal jack. Campbell is pretty good for the leafs through this whole series but there was a couple of glitchy moments and that was exactly the wrong time. I mean the lease of already got the whole world of pressure on their shoulders given their history given the constantly being talked to about the this rivalry in the and this this long drought. They're on and they're in game seven. They've blown the last two games right and all the pressure was already on them. The last thing they needed was to be chasing the game and giving up the first goal and really starting to doubt themselves and that was a garbage goal. By brennan gallagher. No basically steps over the toronto blue line so he's a right shot. If you can picture that you're a right. Shot going on the left wing over the blue line. And so basically you're you got no leverage for the most part you get an all from the shaft of your stick and it takes a snapshot on the ice somehow. Some way beat jack campbell and that made it one. Nothing montreal in. They really didn't look.

"Brand we know it's An incredibly busy time of year or not just in toronto but around the national league so we really appreciate you taking the time to join us here on the podcast extras. Thanks read all right. Thanks again to the president of the toronto. Maple leaves brendan shanahan throat. Punch not a big challenge. This week you know. I i i feel as the hockey gets going then. Obviously more game specific throat punching candidates for. You're going to emerge but renew at all surprised. Because i was at how much reaction there is been do the national hockey league selling ads particularly the helmet ads. I don't i don't. I don't understand why people care i don't care if there's an ad on the ellen or not that is my throat punch to the people that are complaining about this because in anything you do was advertising it so why can't the nhl advertise on their most notable product. Which is the players. So people always send. Oh yeah it's going to end up like this. Where the european teams have ads. All over their sweaters and pants and socks. I told you and i spoken about this. I went to the game and berlin last year landed was playing there right. Nobody looked like they weren't having a good time. That was the best game atmosphere. I'd been at in a long time. Remember back in the day. Because i was playing. I hate saying that. Jesus back in the day down anyway. There were no ads on the boards and when they put the first few ads on we were like. That's ridiculous those save never last. Now you're like you don't even notice them unless you see it in its advertising. What about the four places on the ice where the ads are what. I can't believe they haven't done. Why isn't there ads in the faceoff circles. That to me makes sense because everybody's stopped. You're not skating across the ad right where you might only catch a.

"Winning battles That's vital to any team to have success and that's something that That regardless of kyle's interest in analytics like you said to me analytics is just information. And if there's good information in his bad information but what's most important is what you do with that information. And when i first met him one of the things. I was really impressed with was sort of had a good idea what what bad information was. Valuable information was and As he's grown under lou lamoriello and the success that he had with the with the marlies And and sheldon what he's done is coach. coming up through the system. I just thought that they really had a good concept of how to balance the to your you mentioned sheldon rate at the end here so this is first full goal forum and it's pretty clear he's putting his stamp on how he wants things to go and not taking over a team that was in mid stride or mid stream or whatever you played for arguably the greatest coach of all time i just came from the world junior tournament in eager larry on told me that it was like sitting in the front role of a classroom with a professor but it was never always easy. So can you think of one scotty story because there's eight million that you can about how you had to figure each other out because it was not always the smooth path right. Oh no it was never smooth that you know what behind it. All status scotty and it wasn't It wasn't pleasant every day. And that's the other thing people think all when you're a winning team you want your your winning these championships or you're a contender. It's just pleasant every day. No it's it's still tough every day. You still have controversies and things like that but At the end like behind it all no matter how we felt about him on that particular day you might be. You might be happy with your coach. Might be mad at your coach. you know. Inevitably he made and so there was a trust build up there and sometimes we almost like grudgingly look back and add a line change. He had made or we'd sort of what is he doing. And then we'd score. We'd be like oh man. He did it again. he's smart he's smart But we all wanted to have a relationship with them but he wouldn't let that happen and he kept us he. He likes for us to be off balance he liked for us. I think to have to deal with adversity On the flip side if there was no adversity in a game of we were winning six. Nothing against the last place team in the third period. Scotty would not be quiet behind the bench. He was honest. Like it's like we're winning. Six seven eight nothing in scott. He just won't shut up now. He just he's talking about a show. You're not supposed to say shadowed. Scotty stop yelling. Stop seeing them. Wanna shutout up. Complaining about dropped passes complain.

"I mean that gets our attention and it creates more of the buzz reynard talking earlier in the podcast about the influence of the graybeards of the trial. May maybe even around the league a little bit and lyon matters. You've got jumbo. Wayne simmons bogosian. You mentioned jason spencer. How involved were you in that process of maybe dates back to acquire jake muslim where you recognize. Look we're still a young team are young so bring in these experienced guys now like joe forton could and probably will make a pretty big difference. I mean there's there's you describe young a bunch of different ways and some people would just use young as an excuse or or a bit of a crutch and to me That's not what this is about anytime you can like. I am foremost you've got to be able to play because it doesn't matter Who you are what your name is like. If you don't feel like you're contributing to the team in your corner of the team you get kleiner you get quite in the dressing room. You'll get quieter on the ice. So so we all recognize that that you have to have an important role and you have to feel good about your game to have a presence. In to have an impact on the mariners into matthews and in the young players in our organization that are still maybe not even in our lineup. Maybe not even making the leafs but get to see what these guys doing the gym every day. And get to see what these guys do. Practice every day So it's incredibly important. What what i would say to. Everyone is You know we we believe in balance. And i think that you're constantly seeking that out just the nature of the way that you build things in that you build. Nhl teams You don't always have the balance that you're seeking Like instantly and so. I think that You know constantly trying to move you're constantly trying to improve You're constantly trying to make your team better Other teams are are trying to be better than you trying to knock you a knock you down and and that's the nature of the competition. But i think that you know everything we did in this offseason Was meant to do to add more balance and get make ourselves a team. That not only. We've we've had some or some regular season success and we haven't had the kind of playoff success that we now think that we're capable of. I think that it's just trying to get over that hump get to that next level and you know the players that we've drafted developed Are great players and they want it. They love being maple leafs They you know. I've seen not only one difference. I've really seen here as a lot of ontario guys wanting to come home wanting to play for the leafs Wanting to be a part of that. So that's exciting. But ultimately everything gets decided on on.

"I would lean to him being a too but only for that reason you know like he he can be your franchise centerpiece. Isn't it funny. Just a few years ago. People were shocked that you cake line and walked past a finnish player and yes he. Rv to take the dubois and we've seen in short order now. Cake line was was pretty bang on so when all these rumors are coming around. Drake's if i'm calling. I know that i'm not giving the will. I be prospect in a couple of extra pairs of shoes. Like this is a costly deal. He's got two years just signed on his contract plus when he's out of that contract he's still in your team's control right. He's not at unrestricted free agency yet. So this is a costly deal for whatever team is acquiring but if it's winnipeg it's lying back the other way however they can figure that if it's if it's montreal as it kotkin hammy coming back with you know maybe one of your better prospects like guli or dot right. But i mean that's that's a big cost the right. If it's calgary you're starting with sean monahan like that's not even a it's not even a discussion like the guy you're getting back isn't four years from being a good player already a top end. Nhl player. i'm getting that back. And if you don't wanna give me that back i can't make the deal and therein really lies the danger for not danger. The the trouble for dubois is you can ask for the trade. And then his agent will say oh. They're asking too much. The line is going to say. I'm not getting offered enough. And the answer is probably. He's not getting offered enough right. Because you've got a rip the heart of your team out of your forwards that's the heart of their forwards right and you have to replace the you. General manager need to have permission to speak with the asian papper saw to make sure that this isn was season and a half and he's gone or less he's not going to stay right Because that's the reality admits. Yeah but the problem with that. So i can ask and pepper song and do block and say yeah. I'm going to stay. The can't even signed him to an extension. No not until summer correct correct. Yeah so you would have to be working in the desk drawer there to to get an extension done. That's gonna come in fact be july i. I don't know what whatever that day is going to be right when it's eligible but that would be the way that would be the only way i could strip my roster of assets to make this deal and some managers will do that. I won't give permission. I understand that. So oh and i. And i get it to get it to. You're like wait a minute. What if i give you permission. You can't get a deal done now. I've got a player. That's now three quarters of the whale. The door he's already in his head fought. I'm outta here. Yeah always not..

"Everything else. It's been kind of lingering around that senators franchise for awhile. It's really cool to see. Drake's i don't think there's anything. Dj smith can hand this kid. Did you won't be able to handle. It doesn't mean it's gonna get fifty goals. But i don't. I don't think there's anything he can't well. And i also like derek step on is just trying to shepherd this kid into the national hockey league. Having fun william talk about how he feels like. He's is adopted. Son things of that nature so right. Well i'll tell you now. You're here's a funny. Thanks so when when patrick stephan came to atlanta was nine thousand nine hundred ninety nine and my oldest son was eleven matt and patrick was eighteen and i was thirty five to the house for dinner. Patrick had more in common with match step in for cheryl. When he's got he's got a radio he's got his own kids. Who are that much younger than him. Tim still slow. So it's a weird as you get older it's like wow that's a weird sing are wrap-up headlights talked about The new kubois scenario. And i feel like we're going to talk about this on the podcast locher and season two. Obviously tell you it's dealt and there are some who believe it's going to be sooner rather than later just to avoid the distraction but you're talking about a guy early twenties six three two hundred twenty pounds center who always at least the number two in teams. The national league is dan near a number one center and who knows what the upside of of dubois is going to be here. I think conservatively we can stay. Three of the canadian teams would have of interest. And i'm talking about montreal. Winnipeg calgary and there's probably. I mean probably every canadian team would would inquire i don't know how edmonton can make it work. But why wouldn't why wouldn't ottawa inquire for sure. Why wouldn't you of course when you've got a plethora there's that word again right. Yeah i like it two weeks in a row too. I can't use the third week in a row. otherwise you do. But ottawa's got that great collection of of young players that have been at sea for sharing. Belleville like and peered oriented. He's gotten crafty during his time in in ottawa. So that that might be something can pull off. And then you look at them with the the the american based teams. We know the new york rangers are going to be in their los angeles kings anaheim ducks love to acquire. Pierre-luc watt am looking at chicago. The uncertainty of jonathan toews. What's going on there. you know. Maybe stan moment can lob something at your milkshake align in that that makes sense anyway. Give us your assessment. A beer liuyang. If a general manager for any of the teams that i've just mentioned how hard would you be on this guy. I would be on the phone right away. I man the guy is the guy has untapped offensive potential. And i say it's untapped because he's not gotten to that maturity of being able to do more to his game or columbus plaza direct straight line style fitch really good with a big really good skating Powerful centerman now. What i think of a number one center i think of the slickness of mcdavid or a dry. Seidel are matthews herb. That's that's a number one center to me..

Pierre-luc watt patrick Patrick eighteen fifty goals Three jonathan toews Dj smith third week two weeks Drake eleven nine thousand atlanta los angeles thirty five william derek step chicago stephan

"So is that is that good management recognizing that you know you're really inexperienced tears still so let's bring in more of these proven performers and an kinda goats to try and lead the her. Yeah it well. Yes i mean i think any of it like adding a goals yet. Simmons tried to address a a toughness sort of thing. It's all looking at. What our weaknesses in our strengths. Now the older guys not so sure on only in that i remember being an older guy and like your. Your legs are there. And then they're gone. You know it happens pretty quick right. It doesn't happen to a twenty seven year old happens to a forty year old. You know jason spetsnaz thirty seven Going to be You're going to be thirty eight at the end of the year. Thornton of course is plus forty. Y'all simmons has unfortunately had a lot of injuries to him that we don't really know how the pace of the game is gonna look this year because it didn't look great last year so the the list of forty year old effective players is really short. Like it's almost non existent. So they're they're asking joe to fill that spot with massey's and more they're asking him to play on the power play. Can you do it. I have no idea. I guess they probably don't know either. But for that cost the probably feel a luck. We're getting a great a one person. Which is what they have inspects it to and what they're going to get with simmons and so we're gonna put these eighty one people in the room and then probably hope that their on ice performance helps because if you think of it those three who are not gonna win any skating that's twenty five percent of your forwards every night like it it matters. Yeah it matters. So that's the unknown part of this. As far as the people anna.

"And so his his age. Probably you can multiply it forward a little bit now however vancouver had myers hughes schmidt adler and then jamie benn and a free untested totally untested players like. How is that going to work. It's not and so they get hammock in there and now you've got hammock to play with us right. That's nate schmidt's a good player so really good. Gifted is a great word that they were gifted. So now you've got schmidt playing with adler and now you know in some form. And then you've got myers with probably lady their first round pick from a few years ago who seems to have come around the corner injury wise and play wise. Now you look at the blue light and you go man. I could see that this was a good signing for them. Now i don't know drags you know this like. They can't make it official till they put. Michael furlan lt. I correct correct. And that's the league has stepped in on that too by the way right frank. Seravalli was doing some reporting on social media and whatnot. Where they're saying okay. You need to disclose us and you need to file that contract otherwise roster that you have today is the one that you're going to work with Because it is a form of cap circumvention. Right and i believe. That's why the saint louis blues did what they did in announcing hoffman. So again as we're recording this. Maybe it will be announced when people are listening. Furlan has been placed on lt. Ira that's the wiggle room for. Jim banning in the to make the one year deal. Travis helmet worked. It looks like eriksson is going to be either on a taxi squad. Or i guess that's where he'll be so a million dollars comes off to cap one point seven five. That's a you know. That's ed pebble in the shoe of cannock fans out here. That's for sure is that and they're just you know they've seen enough of of what didn't work but they're still got you know they still got some clogs in the salary cap there but this this whole division is going to is going to be a bit of a scramble and i think we all know it's gonna be really interesting but vancouver's okay i i don't think they're calgary. I don't think they're toronto. I don't think they're montreal. But i think they're in that group with edmonton winnipeg. And kinda you know. It's a in my opinion. It's going to be three team scuffle to see who gets in you mentioned. We had a brief conversation with corey. Perry and fully fits into that category too. But i call it the collection graybeards right and it seems like veteran players players was down in cup experience just experienced period of always mattered. So let's let's twist this in a different way. But i look at what the toronto maple leafs have done. Here and man. I'm intrigued by it. I am and i think this goes back to the jake. Muhsin trade with the la kings where they went. Okay we're acquiring this piece and then they realize okay. Muslims pretty good defense than but manny's good and he's good in the bench. He's good with the media and you know they'd special there again The experience factor they bring in jumbo joe thornton and they bring in wayne simmons. So now it's become more than two incidents or just trying to mix things up a little bit right..

jamie benn Michael furlan Perry schmidt Furlan Seravalli nate schmidt eriksson hughes schmidt Ira Jim wayne simmons corey first round today one year joe thornton edmonton winnipeg more than two incidents seven

"It's incredibly difficult and challenging thing. It really truly is an and then to skip from cova to injury potential fifty. Six games as a tight schedule you. I'm going through that. North division and know to winnipeg opens on thursday and then when a plague plays five games in south of nights and the majority of the seven canadian play. I think four games in six nights depending on right outbreaks gone initially no preseason games a shortened training camp. This smells a lot like muscle polls growing strains like can't dry. I just just think of this. Like guys come in really good shape. They've had time to predict when the start was going to be. Nobody's been hit. Nobody's i'm telling you the difference between being in good shape and then when somebody is slowing you down or not letting you go where you wanna go the differences miles at takes time. That's all strain on your muscles as you're trying to allude innovate and then somebody's talking and near you know there's a growing there's a low back there's something something something and it doesn't even have to be anything major but as you out the schedule somebody pulls a groin in winnipeg second game. They're going to miss five games. Just the season's only seven. What seventeen weeks long. Yeah you know that that stuff is going to be so much unknown and is gonna so much determine I think what what is probably going to play itself out so as we're recording this year. We've just had the luxury of consuming. An incredibly long list of players placed on waivers. Like i mean. I didn't count l. Eighty eight eighty nine. Today is eighty nine n predictable. Yes because again to clarify to be placed on taxi squad. You i have to clear waivers and i look at at corey perry Because i i. I believe very would have known that the montreal canadians were very like big going to try and squeeze in through to their taxi squad. I would've been discussed before he accepts. His is one year seven hundred and fifty thousand dollar deal with apps. Maybe the same for mitra leak. But i don't know i mean.

Six games five games Today thursday six nights four games fifty seventeen weeks second game one year seven corey perry this year seven hundred and fifty thousa winnipeg Eighty eight eighty nine montreal mitra leak eighty nine canadian
