LeBron posts historic first half, questions future after Lakers eliminated

"LeBron James 20th NBA season came to an end after his Los Angeles Lakers were swept by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals. Afterward, the NBA's all time leading scorer hinted he might be contemplating retirement. We see what happens going forward. But I don't know. I don't know. I got a lot to think about, to be honest. The 38 year old James had a personal playoff best with 31 of his team high 40 points in the first half. James is under contract for a $46.9 million next season with the Lakers. I'm geffen coolbaugh.

"When I spoke at Stanford many years ago, I've spoken since, but many years ago, I spoke at Stanford, and I had Stanford students and faculty on my show. I was there for a number of days, the Hoover institution invited me. And I remember thinking, wow, the only clear thinkers I'm having here are the guys in the athletics program, I specifically remember the football players. They were the only conservatives. They were the only ones who made sense. Now, obviously a lot of athletes have been poisoned now, like LeBron James. I live in LA and I'm not rooting for the Lakers because he's not a good man. But nevertheless, a lot more wisdom from this football player than from the prime minister of New Zealand.

Dinesh and Debbie Review the Twitter “Blue Check Mark” Controversy

"Thought we'd start by talking about Twitter and the so called blue check mark. The coveted blue check mark that once signaled, I'm an important person. I am officially verified on Twitter. I am who I say I am, no one is impersonating me. And in fact, you and I in this conversation because I've been verified. I had to check mark for a long time. And you're like, why can't I get a check mark? I tried for years, and I was like, yeah, you know, people didn't impersonate me. And they were, you know, obviously saying negative things and whatnot. And I was like, I need to be verified because I'm married to a public figure and a public figure myself. And so I need to be verified and I tried, I would submit my license, my passport, all kinds of things. And I never did get verified. Well, this was the old Twitter regime and Elon Musk comes along and he could have just said, well, listen, I'm going to create a fair process of verification so that only people who do have this kind of public figure status, but in fact, he decided to democratize Twitter itself. Basically, say, listen, if you want to have a confirmed identity, you want to have a blue check mark. Pay 8 bucks. And then show that you're you. And you'll get it. So he opened up the blue check mark to everyone. And it's funny is that the left is like freaking out over this and getting really annoyed and they're elitism. They're shocking elitism. It's coming out in spades. Here's an article in slate. Now it's a disguised article. They don't want to say what aristocrats were better than everybody else. So here's how deep they frame it. How Elon Musk turned the blue check mark into a scarlet letter. So supposedly Elon Musk has made the blue check mark something negative instead of something positive. And the subtitle is a weekend long masterclass in business failure. So, you know, the article basically says you've got these celebrities think of people like LeBron LeBron James or I guess the novelist Stephen King and they say I will not pay for my blue check mark. And so Elon Musk will sort of like really, all right, fine, I'll pay for you. So evidently, Elon Musk has covered the $8 cost of some of these celebrities.

Joe Biden Stumbles Over Words Again

"Joe Biden says he's still not prepared to announce the 2024 presidential run. As he stumbled over his words and sound like he literally got in a car accident and had brain damage before he said that. God is my witness here today. If all is fair, right? None of the cheating and stuff that happened in 2020. If Donald Trump runs against Joe Biden, I would argue it's going to be a political bloodbath. First of all, Donald Trump's momentum is at a fever pitch. I don't know if that's the right word, but it sounds like it sounds good to me. Donald Trump's popularity is probably at an all time high. I really do believe that indicting Donald Trump reinvigorated the base. Because it reinvigorated me, I was a little on the fence about Trump like, and I don't know, man. He keep talking about desantis. You know, I love Trump, but man he got a line it up a little bit. Because if Donald Trump asks presidential, quote unquote. I mean, he would kill it. I mean, there ain't no politician that can test Trump. Not even close. If he would be more presidential in certain areas, like, hey, when you talking about the deep state, go after them, talk as much trash as you can. Bash them, whatever you need to do, verbally, you can do that. But when you start telling my celebrities and stuff, just leave that to the pundits, man. Because these people can somehow they fans are going to have to vote for you at some point. Just leave that to the pun. I talk about Rihanna's halftime show. I talk about LeBron James until I'm until I can't see no more. I talk about he'll try to go blind. But Donald Trump just stay in the middle on certain things.

"LeBron James is the new NBA scoring king. He's not done yet by Sean Gregory. The historic number is not imprinted in the minds of sports fans, like the records of baseball. Roger Maris 61 home runs in one season, for example, or Hank Aaron's 755 for his career. In basketball circles, Wilt Chamberlain's single game scoring mark, a tidy, round 100 points, is probably more cherished, which makes sense. 38,387 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's long-standing NBA record for career points scored is so astronomically high, most humans can't really relate to it. But this all time scoring record still means so much, the pound your body, year after year over a grueling 82 game regular season schedule and postseason. And continue to pour in points against some of the best athletes in the world who are all trying their best to thwart you, counts as a colossal sports achievement. And this majestic Mark now belongs to a new NBA scoring king. On Tuesday night in Los Angeles, LeBron James at a 14 foot fadeaway jump shot over kenrich Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder, with 11 seconds left in the third quarter to score his 36th point in the game, and 38,388th point of his 20 year career, passing Abdul jabbar on the league's all time scoring list. The game stopped, James hugged his mother, Gloria, a video tribute to James played on the jumbotron at crypto dot com arena. Commissioner Adam silver and Abdul jabbar joined James at center court. Abdul jabbar, the Lakers great, presented James with a ball. James started crying as the crowd cheered. He thanked his family fans and the NBA. I would never, ever, in a million years dreamed this would be even better than it is tonight, he said. Man, thank you guys. The record breaking moment was a reminder of all that James has accomplished. No basketball player in history came into the pros with more hype surrounding him. ESPN broadcast his high school games, for example, and Nike signed him to a $90 million contract when he was just 18. Unlike so many athletic prodigies who came before him, James exceeded expectations. He's won four NBA titles with three different franchises. Four league MVP awards, and will soon play in his 19th All-Star Game. And now, this record. Whether or not you believe he's the best basketball player in history, the contender list is probably down to just James and Michael Jordan at this point. He's inarguably one of the most influential athletes of this century.

"Covering all the trade rumors because the Dodgers are just linked to literally every player. So that's fun. And then there's the Lakers, continually being used in trade talks is leverage. And here's the thing, like we're kind of waiting for all these other teams to figure things out. It's like every team is dependent upon the something else happening with someone else, right? They're all waiting for a domino to fall. But every domino is dependent upon another one to actually take place. So it's a situation where they're stuck. It really needs a deadline. It needs something to happen. And maybe the LeBron James contract extension date is something that can be some kind of adolescence for positive or for negative. I don't think it's going to set the entire trademark at a blaze, but we'll talk a little bit about that. Joining us now, we've got Sean spaces Davis. Sean, how are you doing? I'm doing all right. Literally feel like I just got off a plane an hour ago, and now I'm here with you guys. Welcome back from Chicago, was it? Yeah. Yeah. Dedicated to the job, love it. That's right. Welcome in. Welcome. And I've got people that chat that are frustrated that there's not new news and they're upset with us. Hold up. Let me call rob pelinka right now and tell him to do something. Let me fix that for you guys. No problem. I can easily solve this. Easy. No problem, everybody. We've got a call. We've got to call the Knicks. We've got to call the raptors. We've got a call every other team. Can you guys overpay for Kevin Durant now so we can get on with the rest of our off season? Right. That's the move. That's really, that probably is the biggest domino. Like if that were that's the one thing where that happened, I think everything else will start to fall into place. Holding pattern, fun times. Brawny Braun said, if the pistons didn't use up their salary cap and said they would take Russ for only one first. Who would you guys brought back? Well, I mean, but they did. So I haven't even been looking at the pistons as a possibility because they did use up their cap space. So I can't even say who's on the pistons that you're necessarily target because they have a lot of younger guys that they're trying to build around moving forward. Yeah, they don't have a lot of movable salaries. Yeah. Would you want Alec Burks in Ireland's Noelle? And I guess Kemba Walker, that the Knicks dumped on them on draft night. Kelly Olynyk.

"To podcasts. Oh, Chris, I was not anticipating us having had this much to say. Somehow we're really kind of run up most of our typical podcast time here, which I'm just impressed. I'm just impressed. It's the doldrums of the off season, but here we are, just chopping it up, which is to say I was hoping to spend a little bit more time on this very last topic. Let's do it. We got a few emails about things people want us to talk about. Shout out to Don, by the way, Don, we will get to your email soon. It was a great email. I promise I saw it. We will get to it. Chris asked us if we could talk about Top Gun: Maverick, which I'm pretty confident you have not seen. I have not seen it. Oh, come on. I've never seen the original Top Gun, which means it has to be one of the biggest movies I've known. I've also never seen jaws. And I'm also someone who I used to really call myself like a movie, aficionado. I watch movies from the 30s and 40s and black and white. From the 30s and 40s, why, dude. Yeah, man, because film was made differently back then, but you had some good stuff. And some Kubrick in there. 39 steps, some Hitchcock, I guess. Yeah, I was sitting. I was watching opera Hitchcock presents yesterday. But short ones that are only 12 long. Hitchcock, Hitchcock has bangers, bro he does, he would have gotten extremely canceled by the me too movement. So maybe this is the, who was it earlier in the week, neo was like, amen. But I listened to his music. So I really don't listen to him anymore, but I do, I mean, Hitchcock was really, really good at filmmaking. It was a creeper, but those movies, I watch a lot of older stuff, I've never watched Top Gun, I have not seen Top Gun: Maverick. I should because Anthony Edwards is in the Top Gun. I'm a huge ER fan. Okay. So I should watch it. I know he's not the star of the film, but I know he's got a big role in the original. He's a very good Tom gun maverick was fantastic. I took a friend who set up to the movie I wanted to love it. Ironically, but I actually just loved it. It's very emotional. I genuinely a beautiful movie. It's also the movie is about how Tom Cruise is the only person still making movies. The subtext of the movie is very clear. Like there's a point where like Tom Cruise is walking out of a room and a guy's like, no one really does this anymore. It's really ridiculous. But so sorry, Kris, we'll have to save the Top Gun: Maverick talk for another time, but shout out to niv who hit us up. Well, he addressed this email only to Michael, which I think is kind of messed up. I guess it was a follow-up to original email that he addressed to all of us. When he goes, Michael, just finished listening to the most recent episode, congrats to you and your wife on the new baby, which may or may not have already arrived, niv, we will definitely pass along your message to peanut. And he wants to know, first of all, he said he wanted to hear about my Mexico City trip. Thank you, niv. Unfortunately, I think that window has passed. But he said, please consider sending in some more book suggestions. He's asking for some book suggestions because of the off season Chris. Listen, we got a New York Times bestselling author on this show. I don't know why Pena and I don't know why peen and I are out here giving the book suggestions. So Chris, I just want to see if there's anything you've been reading recently or lately or anything that you'd like to share with the open floor globe. It could be a good off season read. I'm sitting here looking at full bookshelf. I've read more in the last two, three years than I've ever had before. I'm not the most voracious reader. Nor am I penis really peanut butter. He's reading him and then my friend mirin fader puts me to shame. She reads like 700 books a year. But I had to read a lot just because I was really insecure about my own book writing process and I was like, maybe I should read before I try to write one myself. So I spent a lot of time reading other books to try to get a better grasp of pacing and reveals and stuff like that. So I really enjoyed not a game by Kent Babb, which is about Allen Iverson. A really good one. He also has a book I think was called across the river that I want to read about a high school football team that just kind of has so much the players have so much stuff to deal with off the field. It's kind of amazing that they're able to accomplish what they do on the field given how much they've got off the field. If people haven't read it already, a book that's in a similar vein to mine about the Knicks, which is called blood in the garden. Three ring circus was fantastic, but Jeff Perlman about the Kobe Shaq Phil era Lakers. And there are three titles that they want. He's also got a book coming out on Bo Jackson. That I have read a huge chunk of already that will come out later this fall. And he of course winning time, which sometimes show, yeah. Right, right, right. So he wrote showtime the winning time is based on, which is in the same vein again, just to championship era. Team, what else would I suggest trying to think? I'm thinking about sports stuff can I throw out? Have you heard of the book chaos by Tom O'Neill? No. I don't know that I don't know that I've mentioned this book on the podcast yet. It's very hard for me to talk about it without sounding like a full on conspiracy theorists. So I'm going to do my best to give you the soft pitch of this book, but it's the full title. Let me pull it up. The full title is, oh God, I'm somehow ended up searching Chase Bank instead of the title. Well, while you go ahead, go ahead. It's called chaos, Charles Manson, the CIA, and the secret history of the 60s. And just to give you an idea of this Tom O'Neill, I need to reach out to him because he's clearly a fantastic reporter. Tom O'Neill is a journalist, and he gets a signed in the late 90s. He gets assigned a story for premiere magazine about the Manson murders. Do something for the upcoming anniversary of the Manson murders. He never files the story, instead for the next 20 years he's researching this book because as he, as he starts reporting, he starts uncovering more and more things. And it's just one of the most well reported, most interesting books I've ever read. Again, the title, it's all about kind of the CIA and the federal government's kind of involvement and knowledge with regards to Charles and activities in the 60s and it's fascinating. Again, I don't want to sound like a straight up conspiracy theorist, I promise I'm not, but this is, this is a book based entirely on facts. And incredible reporting testimony from people who are involved with cases, et cetera, it's genuinely genuinely fascinating. That is a really man. I'm thinking about chilling that probably is to read in some ways if it really heavily involves Charles Manson's stuff. I've got a couple others. There's one called franchise that is that I've started that's about just McDonald's is role in the black community. And I have very strong feelings about some of that just as it relates to food deserts. Yes. And stuff like that and just kind of what sorts of healthy options communities have to begin with. So there's that. There's another one that I've started reading called. Oh, that sounds fascinating. Yeah, the three mothers, which is about Malcolm X's mother, named Baldwin's mother and Martin Luther King and kind of like, wow, these men were kind of molded, as children by really strong black mothers. So there's that. I mean, there's always interesting stuff outside of the sports world, but there's so many good sports ones. Again, I think mostly about the ones that are in the vein of what I did, but your own widespread did a great one. On the sixers, which was called taking to the top, which I think came out maybe two years ago. And there's more stuff on the way. Did you ever read, I know where a few years apart in age, did you ever read Matt Christopher books? Growing up? This is probably something that only really hit the white suburbs. If I had to be honest. Well, I mean, I grew up in one that was pretty. Okay. But I've heard oh, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Okay. Never read them. Yes. But I feel like when I went to the store, these books were always on sale. Yeah. If you're looking for sports books. I know all these books just having looked at them, but I've never read them. Yeah, yeah. Did you read these? I did, dude. I was like, there was some of my earliest some definitely some of the first books I read. I was like, they wrote books about my suburb was definitely wide enough to have had all these books on the bell. I never read them, but I floss more Illinois definitely had these books on the shelves. There we go. Yes. All right, well, shout out to Matt Christopher, the goat, I don't even know if that's that person's real name. If someone else is writing under them as a pseudonym now, which I feel like happens a lot, but yeah, I was steady, steady reading those Mac Christopher books that the hardy boys. I bet the hardy boys is like if I read it now, I'd probably still be pretty good. Probably. You're probably enjoying stuff. I feel like most of the stuff that I enjoyed as a kid now that I see like movie adaptations and stuff. I still enjoy it as a full blown adult. Especially my nephew called me, he watched Willy Wonka for the first time. And my man's mind was blown. And he wanted to have like a full on conversation about whether there was like a place that actually existed. Of course. I wonder why that's what his concern is here. It's just a hungry boy, but yeah, but my imagination is still really big for 35 year olds. I still rock with stuff like that. There we go. If you didn't, if you read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and didn't immediately think like you were going to get picked one day, you're doing it wrong. You did it wrong. Exactly. All right, Chris, well, I think that will do it for this episode of open floor. Once again, thank you for taking part in this swift sudden necessary regime change. Things are going to get a lot more fun around here, a lot more anti Boston. At the same time, we wish wells, so very big week for him. Thank you. Could it be crazy, man? "Of a weirdly huge season for AD. I think Anthony Davis now because I feel like it's dog years with him because it feels dirty in March. Wow, so his next playoffs is going to be his age 30 playoffs. So I mean, that's what we're talking about here. For a long time, he was so young and that's where I'm saying and it's too drastic to say it because he hasn't had like career altering injuries necessarily, but just the way Grant Hill late in his career kind of was able to get his health straight I would love I mean obviously I would love for everybody to be healthy but I would love for Anthony Davis to just, I don't know how it happens but Steph went through it early in his career where he was just constantly battling ankle stuff. I would love for him to kind of have that stretch that Steph has had most of the most part. The Grant Hill had toward the end of his career where he's not injury prone. Because I do feel like that is a lot of what holds back because when he was healthy enough to play this year at times for stretching. He was really good. Yeah, absolutely. You know, so I do agree with that part from Curtis, but there is something to be said for like when you can only do that for 40, maybe 50 games a year, what are we really talking about here when you're playing with a guy that's 37 and 38, whatever. And it's also going to miss a lot of games. We're not used to LeBron missing a lot of games, but it's just probably a reality of where he is. Age wise. Not to mention a team that's got Russell Westbrook too. So I hope AD can just kind of have a healthy season, a healthy rest of his career, because I think we're taking for granted now the guys can play till they're 37, 38, but we've also seen Blake Griffin. We've also seen Russ just kind of diminish very quickly and Anthony Davis is almost 30. So I hope he hasn't got another couple of really good years left in him, where he's just healthy. Hey guys, it's Cindy and Sarah and crying in public is officially back. You've been with us through a pandemic, breakups, half of college, graduation and all of the ups, downs, and drama in between. "If he gets drafted to a team that has all the cap space in the world, they can work something out. But whichever team drives brawny gets LeBron. That's the bottom line. And I'm fascinated to see what this means for bronies drafts. I don't think we've ever seen this before. In the NBA draft, so I'm interested to see we're still a couple of years away, but I'm interested to see what this does to his draft stock. Does this bump him up simply because that team gets LeBron? You're not just drafting brownie. You're getting the final year of LeBron's career most likely. Who knows? Maybe you know what? He said he just wants to spend whatever the last year of his career is with brownie. Maybe he decides 2028 is going to be the final year and that's when they go team up. You never know. But right now, the way most of us are reading it as though, okay, 2024, maybe that's it for him. If you are a random team, let's say you are the Sacramento Kings, you're a team that hasn't made a lot of money, you're a team that hasn't made the playoffs in a while. You're a team that doesn't have a very positive air around them. Don't you have a little bit more incentive to do what you need to do in order to get brawny and then you will get the final year because think about all the attention think about all the revenue that's going to be on your franchise because you got LeBron James for the final year of his career. Wouldn't that matter? So I think that's why I don't see the Lakers being his final landing spot in the NBA. It's possible. Maybe the Lakers wind up drafting brownie. There's something that something happens there, and that works out. Maybe that's the way it goes down. But LeBron made a very clear, very matter of fact, whichever team drafts brawny, that's where he's going to play..

"Everything, Lakers, your Lakers, just picked up a nice wind of the Orlando Magic. Okay, a team that you would expect them to beat, but still, the link was got a great performance out of LeBron James. The third quarter, how much fun was that? The Lakers got a win that well, they kind of got close to. They took their foot off the gas quite a bit in the fourth quarter, but they wind up winning by 12 and this one by 25, one point, but final score one O 6 to 94 Lakers gotta like it again, I know it's the magic. So we can't get incredibly excited. It's not like, yes, the Lakers are back. This is a win over the best of the best. This is proof. They finally found their way. No, but this is important. It's important that you pick up ways against the teams that you're supposed to be. You've heard me say it on here before. You have to, in the NBA, you have to beat the teams that you're supposed to. That's the key to playoff city. By the way, I'm Trevor lane for Lakers nation dot com. You guys can find me on social media at Trevor lane on Twitter at Trevor lane NBA on Instagram and Facebook. If you're joining me live from YouTube from Facebook from Twitter, welcome man, I'm going to be going over your questions in comments tonight. We'll be discussing everything that happened in this game. If you're listening to the podcast version of this, make sure you do follow us over on Apple podcasts, Spotify, wherever it is, that you listen to podcasts. All right, let's start things off with the box score for this one because there are a lot. Actually, I've got a few comments coming in here, a few super chats already. Somebody did a super chat and said, Anthony diva should be the MVP of this game for not playing. You know what? Like the Lakers. The Lakers played well, the Lakers won, and then they immediate reaction is no, we got to go negative again and say, see? See, this is proof. The Lakers don't need Anthony Davis, trade him, get rid of him. Really? Like, that's the reaction we're going to have after you beat the Orlando Magic. Now, look, if they went on this huge winning streak without Anthony Davis and the offense look better and the defense looked better and everything looked great and they're beaten to the top tier teams in the NBA. Okay, then maybe we'd have something to talk about. But Anthony Davis is objectively a good basketball player. I don't think this is evidence that the Lakers don't need Anthony Davis or anything like that. Frankly, I think that's a little.

"Like, he really, man, that looks that raging buffalo coming towards me. That looks really dangerous. Come on, man. Yeah, what's the funniest part of the video though? Russ. Yeah. Putting his hands up, Daniel Russell, I got, I gather. I got a technical. What do you mean I got him? You got to punch somebody, really? I mean, here's the thing. Go ahead throw and you do something, man. You really should do. And this is actually truly believe that. Should let him go. Should let him go and let him go to LeBron and see what happened. They vote for the past out and pay it. Nobody was gonna put nobody. I don't know about that. But Joe swang. No. Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. You come up, swinging, as what you do. You don't go to a match when the man why you do that. Yo, I get you, I get you with that, but again, to me, it's about the blood, man. These NBA players, they don't want to be a meme, okay? They're not trying to live on the Internet for the next ten years. And to that same to that same message, LeBron doesn't want to get knocked out. He's like, wow, wow, he's grabbing all his teammates to build a wall. Deandre Jordan, come here, come on, help me with this boy later. He didn't want that either. And Andre, Jordan, shouldn't he be, shouldn't he be suspended or was he on the floor? Already. That's what he's there for for shit like this. I mean, but I mean, was he on the Florida claim? I want to say he was in the play, yeah. Okay, well in that case he would have been suspended. You know, he maybe he was on the flood. But but here's the thing thereby forgetting. The truth was up by 15 or 16 points at that time. The Lakers were given beat by the worst team in the league. That's when LeBron goes like that. Come on. That's when that happens. So look, and LeBron's on a dirty player. I think the dirty player, but when he's in the heat of the moment, he will do stuff like this. I believe. He's not a dirty player, but he did a dirty dirty move. How about that? Let's just get to the chase. I mean, that's accurate. You think his LeBron? And how many years 19 now, he's been this illegal, whatever numbers he's been to sleep. Have you ever seen LeBron James punch anybody? Much. I don't even I've never even seen him smells. That would be held to the no no. You've never seen LeBron James punch anybody. Man, you tell me the last person that actually threw a punch that I remember. Serge Ibaka. Now that my Serge Ibaka, the other been somebody knocked the hell out. That's what would have happened. But because neither one of these guys wanted to fight, you know, these, you know, they want to act like they want to hit somebody and when we have somebody at the elbow and all this stuff, that's what it boiled down to. All right, well, even so, even if that's the case, lapping around the court, where everyone's trying to continue and you're going into full sprint. You can't scare why people like that. Imagine take a holder's win there. Look at that dude..

"If I get paid more money every time I see that, or say that, I'm going to be in business. So in regard to the issue with LeBron James on the floor, adult actress, pornographic star, Kendra lost bob Ryan. Do you know who Kendra lush is bob Ryan? No, I do not. He would not admit it. Maybe maybe Goodman does. Kendra lust has said that Isaiah Stewart is a fake tough guy. No, she said that Anthony Davis is a fake tough guy. So she is one of the most popular adult film actresses in the world. She has 7.2 million followers on Instagram and she says that Anthony Davis should have got involved. She says that Anthony Davis is soft. How do you feel about Kendra lust by? I guess she's entitled to her opinion as well. So I can tell you. I don't have any. I have no opinion about her. I'm sorry. I don't know anything about her. I just wanted to get a porn actress. This is pod. I'm sure you did, but I can't Jeff Goodman's dying right now. Bob, you're fine. We're taking you off the hook. I am because I think maybe ten ways worked with her before bob. I don't know. I don't know what she is either, but she may be honest something. She might pay the bills. Well, listen, Anthony Davis is not the toughest student in the world. Isaiah probably would have broken him in a house. And it's probably would have been out for the year. If he had gotten involved in the scalpel. So let's be honest. This is the right move for Anthony Davis. Anytime something breaks out, this is a guy who can get hurt anywhere anyplace in any way. Run the other way. Go ahead, get the hell out of there. And let Dwight Howard get in there and mix it up. Let him have some value for this team. But my guess is the white Howard probably ran in the tunnel on this when this whole thing was going on. Yeah, she said, something like Anthony Davis didn't want any of that smoke or something along those lines. Anyways, hey, look, 7.2 million followers on Instagram. Well, that's a few more that could not have any followers. I got to tell you that speaking of not wanting to get involved in a fracas story, I was sitting on the bench and my junior year at the lines for school. But a lot is the fastest and easiest way to bet on all your favorite sports that align with stuffed with deals of Thanksgiving. Thank you better in line for making this show possible. All right, guys, to me, the big story is, you know, LeBron James. Okay, we saw the video. We saw the incident Isaiah Stewart gets two games, which I can't believe that's all they got. That's beyond me. And LeBron James. Bob, I want to start with you about the altercation, you know, LeBron elbows the guy, didn't look attention. LeBron turned around and said, my bad, but Stuart goes crazy. And all your years of covering this league, how bad was this? Well, let's start with the incident. I mean, let's talk about the background. My first question was what was there something leading up to this? Was there a reason why LeBron James went out of character? He is not known for anything like this ever. Did I know of, okay? Right. He's not known for this. So was there something that started done earlier? And he said, all right, I had enough kid. I'm going to show you who's boss. Don't mess around with the king. Or something. I don't know. Okay, no, but look so that's a B and LeBron. It's nothing that LeBron is known for. Okay. He did it, though. And then it appears and certainly that's what his teammates think and I know in the Davis we saw the soundbite from him afterward said the bond immediately want to say, I'm sorry, okay, let's go. If that's the case, now everything is on Stewart. Yes, he's bleeding. Yes, this was I'm going to pick my words carefully. I've been covering this league directly for 52 years. Since 1969. I have never seen him terrifying person at the moment on the floor. Even including people who have thrown actual punches, you know, which you never got to do. You know, but that was a frightening, terrifying individual a large, powerful young man. Listed at two 50. God knows what he weighs who had a look of just frenzy. They couldn't subdue him. He wouldn't let it go. Wouldn't let it go. What triggered that? That's what I want to know. I don't know. Jeff, I watched him and I liked him in college and by the way, I thought he was and I have no idea he kind of reputation of any kind, Jeff, you would. Bob, I will tell you, he is the nicest kid the most soft spoken kid you will ever meet. He's 20 years old. I've spent an hour with him two years ago at Washington and I could not have been more impressed with Isaiah Stewart as a human being high character. Any anybody you talk to about Isaiah Stewart? Those are the first words that will come to their mouth. This high character, sweet, innocent, almost too nice off the court, but when he gets on the court. He is a man. Like he plays with a motor. That's what's got him into the league. That's what's gonna keep him in the league. His motor and listen, I don't know what it was exactly either, I don't know if it was one of the blood started flowing and he felt it that all of a sudden he lost it. But he lost it..

"Two stars had to step up. In this case, both Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook did in LeBron's absence. That's exactly what we wanted to see. I don't think it's a surprise that this is Russ's best game by far given the lineup that Frank Vogel was trying to put him out there with as far as spacing the floor and giving him room to run to the rim, hence the 15 out of 27 from shooting. I thought he was relentless attacking to the basket. Obviously, the thunderous dunk in over time in the half court was impressive, got the crowd going, loved that. But that was basically Russ and attack mode all night, Russ with the space floor is the best version of Russell Westbrook. We saw it before, and now we're seeing it with the Lakers. So it's something that I hope the coaching staff and vulgar look to use going forward. But yeah, you'll take a win how you can get them, especially as the Lakers have looked so far and after those two game struggles to start the season, you absolutely are happy with where they're at now. Yeah, a 100%, right? You're happy that they got the win. There's some concerns, but the stars were able to step up. In fact, let's just let's get into it. The 360 award for tonight to the best star. Obviously, LeBron not in there. So he's not an option. So Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Matt, which one is getting the 360 award for you tonight? It's exactly Russell Westbrook. I think he was the engine tonight. Obviously AD was a spectacular deny, as well, like you mentioned 35.17 rebounds and four blocks. You know, you can make an argument for each of these guys. But I definitely think it was Russ because again, I think he was the one that really ignited the team, especially in the fourth quarter and over time. I think, you know, we've been talking so much about energy and effort, especially when we hammered those two points in the Lakers first two losses. So to see, you know, Russ really uplift the team and get them going. And to be honest, like, be the driving force that they needed to get over the hump and get over the finish line tonight. I think absolutely has to go to Russell Westbrook. See, so before we came on the air here, I told you I said you said who's going to be your 360? I said, it's going to be whichever one you don't pick. Because they were close enough to where you can make an argument for either guy. And I think that's a great thing. On a night whether LeBron James isn't an action, you've got both guys making big plays for the Lakers. You've got Anthony Davis 15 for 31 shooting 17 big.

"Just picked up an overtime win. Joining me is Matthew optimist Peralta mad. The Lakers beat the spurs. I feel like I just lost years off of my life that was a stressful another stressful game, but a win nonetheless. Yeah, at this point, given the Lakers were without LeBron James, first road trip. Clearly still figuring things out defensively, which I'm sure we'll talk about. I think you have to be just looking for wins at this point, no matter how you can get them. Although I will say that, I wish the winds were not in these kinds of fashions where they're down to the wire and like you said, I feel like I'm a young 27 Trevor, but I definitely feel a lot older today than I did yesterday. Technically I am, huh? But way older. But like a lot, not just a day. I don't like a lot. Well, welcome in everybody. All right, so the Lakers get the win over the San Antonio spurs the LeBron list Lakers the Lakers decided to rest LeBron James, dealing with an ankle injury from last game, Desmond baine got knocked into LeBron's leg by Dwight Howard and resulted in an ankle injury and now LeBron, he was first probable then questionable then, no, just kidding, he's out and not playing for this one. We'll have to wait and see if he plays tomorrow night in Oklahoma City. That's right. The link yourself to play another game in like 21 hours after this overtime game. But Anthony Davis 35.17 rebounds four assists four blocks 15 to 31 shooting Russell Westbrook. This is the Russ. We were hoping to see 33 points ten boards 8 O 6 three steals, 15 of 20 7 shooting. Russell Westbrook, getting it done with LeBron James off the floor ten points chipped in from. That's right. That cagey veteran, Austin Reeves, HBK. Chips in ten points of his own for the Lakers and 17 for Malik monk who I thought had a very nice game, especially in the offensive end. The spurs were not going away. You got 27 points from Jakob pearl. Yeah. That's pretty much my reaction to Matt 27 and 14 from Jacob pearl 13 to 17 shooting dejante Murray, 21 points for him to go along with 12 boards in 15 it says that's right, the Lakers defense gave up a triple double to dejante Murray. 21 points for Lonnie walker who was 7 of ten shooting 5 of 7 from three. So if you're looking for the random role player that just blows up against the Lakers out of nowhere, it's Lonnie walker. Oh, wait, but it's also Devin vassell who dropped 19 points with 7 rebounds something only the Lakers seem to get on a night tonight basis. Matt, at the end of the day, though, they get the win. And that's the important part here. They got the W two and two on the season. We talk about process over results, but still, it feels a lot better when you get a win. Right. I haven't had haven't had that problem and nine years. After i want some of that we have to. You guys got it recorded here. I'm going to you guys love that. Lebron i wanna know like you know everybody associated with the obvious things that we see the talent and basketball the talent on the screen when you decide to address what is the thing that would be so surprised. Like would i ever find you at the hollywood bowl. Listening to some classical music was funny that you say that i love classical music like if you if you were to happen to pull up on a side and be when. I'm not in the dark dark car you could catch me out of light. Listen and says some old beethoven mozart. Come on that's as opposed to the new ones. I'm fully. i'm fully addicted to that stuff. And so shaun. Shaun classically trained pianist. Right yeah And that's cool. I love that now. Are you ever listening to classical music on your headphones. As you're getting ready to play or you listen to something. That's that gets gets a blood flow in a little bit more now listening to some get the blood flow a little bit more for sure for sure and that changes each game or is there like a to that. If you you need to really get it going like who is it. You wanna share it. It's not it's like it changes. It's not going to you know you know. I'm listening to a lot of like hardcore hip hop you know it could be like the wu tang or it'd be like You know some some some early diem eggs some nwea you know. I wanna get into a real or even like eminem like when he was doing his thing like a high level too. So like you know. Tap into a to a whole 'nother. I'm not the father at home with the kids. Lebron when tap into that mode. I'm ready for war. War should listen to our podcast before the game. Coming in give you the fighting spirit. Tell us a little bit about about space jam before we before we let you go. You've been very generous with your time. But i'm very very curious about about this because that's that was a great first film this this this one is Pick up where it left off. How is it. How's it different than what is different First of all totally different from the first one that came out twenty five years ago. But i was very intimidated just from when i got when a script came to me and i'll set it on my desk. I was very intimidated. Because i understand you know the legacy behind the first one. I know i was. I was one that was like at all of it. I was twelve years old or eleven when it first came out and love the looney tunes. Obviously my ass for michael jordan is out of his world so very intimidated. But i was able to get myself to a point where i was like. I wanna i wanna do this. I felt like you know the space jam. Legacy is so iconic is so great. I wanted to be a part of the legacy and obviously the movie is now called. A legacy is kind of how about but We were able to. I worked with a great director of malcolm. Lee don cheetos is in a film as well opera. He's so i love him. He's helped me out a lot when we're all set but i just dove into it. I gave everything to all that green screen. And all that. I need you to look over here and just trust later. We're gonna we're gonna paint in a little character. You gotta look at like a little stand with an x. On it it's like working with just a nightmare right sean. Or the green screen. Green screen gives more. It was a nightmare the first few weeks. Of course it's weird right it so he's super weird because they're like no no no you're you're you're you have to be looking up so is that was that like a three picture deal or we're going to see how the first one goes or what did you do. Is it just the one. no no. it was just the one But i mean. Let's i'll be hearing so much about people's reaction to a so far. It has actually seen a movie so far screen. And so you know warner you know wants to Tackle it again. I wouldn't mind trying to see. We could fit the right script in and and keep it going but i think this one is gone on surprise a lot of people. This is a family movie as a family movie with a lot of last obviously a lot of looniness dealing with the damn tunes they daughter excited about it or are yourself or what. My daughter is super excited about it She doesn't know. I mean she's too young to know about the original tunes but now because of our dads she's getting back into the sat and was she like. Wow look yup. My my whole family stopped by set. You know a few times and they just like wow and my boys are sixteen fourteen. They only care about how. Cool that the person that's playing them in the movie. Looks like daddy look like me as he wear. My hairstyle is dressed in a right way. Like i don't want to buy plan me. Not lonely kassim actors to play your son's yes. We cast actors to kind of look like my family. We changed the names but they are yes. I got older son younger son and a daughter and a wife in the movie. so yes. that's kinda. Your kids didn't have approval over that casting. No i didn't let them because they would've took too long to work and after after a long hours did you mix them up. All the kids much almost fixing family whole ones logs on fixing to whitehall was good. Yeah right so so lebron. Let me ask you after all this stuff and everything. You're doing get back to to basketball. You've had a lot of the lakers already. I don't wanna put you on the spot. But i mean you could conceivably just keep going. You're so good at what you do. You're still the top of the game. How long do you see yourself playing for the lakers. And how cool is it. Playing for the lakers. At great storied franchise. Yeah i may. I truly hope that. I can finish my career with the lakers. And how many years that is if this is four five six whatever said we all continue to play a game you know. I love being in. La my family loves being la. Being historical franchise like the lakers or something like is like me being a space jam now. I never thought it'd be possible. You'd think about kareem magic and will in jay west and elgin baylor. Kobe shack off. The whole list goes on and louis k lewis case. You did a great louis case. The greatest lakers fan of all time. Greatest well lebron. Can't thank you enough for spending some time with us. Really exciting thrill. We're all huge huge fans of yours and Feel very very flattered that you each spent some time with us so thank appreciates as the wheel shot. Appreciate me you guys purchase. Oh man yeah. All right pal wait man such guys thank you bye bye. I could've talked to him all day. But i wanted to his his time. He had a hard out. And i think we chess we were like one minute over it but man i couldn't i could talk to him forever. A cool bowl career. He's had so. I have to be honest. Like i was floored to studying. That's better h. e. l. p. dot com slash smartness. And now back to the show. You know you do all this stuff. You've got the school where you you provide opportunities. Jason brought it up. I love the way by the way as you were talking about growing up. You kept saying we. You know that the people were around. You're saying we have an opportunity we have in our. You know we we gotta keep going. We gotta keep doing the things the way that you were part of something and that you relied like as you talked about these people that you leaned on it love that you talked about in that we. I think it's so important to have that kind of support system but as you talk to kids who don't have the shot that you had as you. What do you say to those kids who are like look man. I hit the lottery. I had a tremendous amount of skill. I great people around me. I'd god given gifts and i had the willpower to do it. That was the perfect storm. That's not going to be the experience for ninety nine point. Nine percent of the kids no question no question about. That's the one thing that we have at my school here. we don't. we don't even have a basketball complex at my school. You know but we have. We have art. We have art room. We have a music lab. We have a technology lab work computers. So we're we're we're all every single day acts our kids. What do you want to do. A lot of them say sports but a lot of them like listen. I wanna be a doctor you know so we have. Doctors come in to talk to our kids a lot of say okay. I want to be a cop. You know we got cops you know obviously at the front door when they walk in and so kind to our kids and they can talk to them and give them guidance. Like what do you want to be like. what do you want to be. What's your ass rate. What are your dreams. You might not even know what your aspirations are right now but you do have dreams. We all had dreams about what we wanted to be. So you know if it's something that they have passionate about we try to bring it to the school and try to give them the resources to in. Let's let's see if we can tap into it and it might. You might fail. have i one you know. Let's try it again or you might say i. Let's try something else in us all about being a kid. You try so many things until you finally figure out okay. Oh this is what i wanna do. They'll try to give them the resources. That's that's my whole thing. I want to just give them the resources to be tapping so whatever they want to do. I love that now. I wanna i wanna ask you stuff about playing in the game because you know i played basketball when i was a kid and i was like. I don't like buying. No i did and i was like when everybody when we go way. You're lebron you're describing playing basketball. I was a kid. I play about your experience play basketball. And whenever there was a rebound and everybody would run to the end of the other opposite end of the court. I go go do you guys go. I'll catch. I'm right behind him. I'm so close. I'm just gonna take a beat but i'm writing but wait but i look because i've been a couple of lakers game live. I was lucky enough to have courtside seats and seeing seeing seeing you play live and seeing the whole team player is so much more thrilling than tv but tv sterling to but to see it live is just unbelievably exciting. And and i. I couldn't even possibly begin to understand how you do what you do. But here's the thing. Here comes the question guys. It's worth the wait.

"Think for me. The drive comes from upbringing and You know growing up the way. I grew up. You know. i'm a part of a single parent household just me and my mother. No siblings Not much care. Mom worked on and off. You know my whole childhood so you know. Every day was kind of a struggle for us as a family. So i felt if i ever was even put into position. This is also part of my inspiration to growing up. I was ever put in a position. Rock succeed at doing anything. And i can make any kind of dollars anything as far as capital That i want to give a lot of it back. I wanna give You know a lot of a back to mock community. Because i understand what those kids are going through on a day to day basis. Because i've walked those same streets of tackle dose same corners. I know the hardships of what a single parent household kid ca- feel like and the pressures the adversity and all that stuff that comes with so and to see that change change of happened from your efforts. It's gotta be unbelievably rewarding. I mean yeah we hear. Some of the family sean. Will you know you guys. I mean just to see some of the. He's come until you know. Either you know the falcons he members is that my school or the teachers that op changed their lives or tell my mother because now my mom is huge into the foundation and she welcomes allotted. I she part of it. what yes. She's a. She's like one of the head advisory boards of my foundation where basically have an apartment complex here is where i welcome a lot of the underprivileged families and and we set the mobile room and board that we're not in a position where they can afford they all living so You know it's pretty cool. Mom welcomes all these families in. That's awesome says she second like an ambassador. Yeah exactly exactly but you say you came. You know you talk about your own childhood and wreck to recognize. Look i really struggled. And so i wanna be able to give back and really do it in a way in a really practical way a lot of people talk about it but you actually to it you know. Look at sean. Sean grew up. You had a tougher childhood and stuff and you turn your back on your community. You've kept things simple. Imagined spends his money on. And i said i send people truly free them. Yeah and jason doesn't know what the jason jumped align famously in line for the first iphone so we all have our own. Let me just lebron. You could've incarnation of the point. Is this my point is you could have gotten you've had you've had so much success. You could have just sailed away on a yacht and never looked back. He's finding time to do that too right. We get some hours each year. Yes we just hours at relax. We'd have you been on a yacht with lebron and you have how to get to the daily mail right so so you're a kid so your kid you're hanging out and you're thinking boy. If i can ever get this jump shot to really go down in a consistent way. I might be able to get myself to a place where i could either get outta here or stay here and help give back to this. What was the moment when you thought yourself. Oh you know what this is going to work. And i think i've got a very realistic chance of making it. And now i'm starting to think about what i'm gonna do if i do. Make starting your plans about philanthropy and you know. A lot of kids fantasize in school. When i'm older. I want to be a teacher so i don't have to do any of the score i can like. What was that moment like. And what were those first few plans you remember. That was there for like the beginning of my junior year i was sixteen years old. I'm right after my sophomore year in the summer. Going into my junior year. I was on the cover of sports illustrated. That'll do they. They dumped me. The chosen one at sixteen years old and pressure no pressure right right and the jinx of the cover on top of it all right and instead cover it a so a lot of nba execs. We're talking and they were saying that. You know if i entered the draft you know right now could beat the number one pick and you know but you know what those so i felt like i seen the success that i was having and the reason that i knew i wanted to come back and give back to my community is because i knew the success that i was having yes ahead to do with my god given abilities and my talent and he put in the work but the support that i had for my coaches and my friends and my mom they stayed on my ass everyday like listen and this is this is what we do and we all listen. We have an opportunity to make this beard and even other people are saying. That's not fuck it up like. Oh you know so you know. It's tough when a sixteen year old because less than me and my friends we wanna do. We know first year in. We want to go to house parties. We want to go you know. Hang with other high school kids and do kid things but you know right. Jason knows about the kid things driving off the warner brothers. Lot when you're sixty but listen. But with the brian with your kids your own kids. What an incredible story you have to pass down to them about your struggle and then how you turn it around and how you're giving back. Is it something that they get. If they don't get it to. You grinded in their brains. You got to keep looking at me. You gotta keep blinking my star. You have got to learn how to give back. I mean it's so cool to have a dad that that does all that there's absolutely nothing. I can do nothing. I could do to give them the same moment or aspirations or like us ri- that i had to. I mean you can't teach ambition. No i i grew up in akron. Ohio in in the inner city and the hood is what we call it. The projects and my kids are growing up for years in miami on south beach. And now for five years and brentwood. So you know when we we're here for those four year. When i was in cleveland they were younger. You know we're in. We're now in the suburbs. So i went to public schools and challenge in public schools until i got to high school because of my basketball ability but these kids are growing up in private school so the one thing that i can do is still the morals and what we do in his house. Yeah and this is how you need to represent yourself when you leave the house as a young man. I got two boys two teenage boys. I've got a daughter. I seven years old. So you give them the blueprint and then you gotta let them. You know we i. I hope that they have some adversity. You know they need some hardships. They hope they find some along his way. Because you really only know who you are and you only going to be over to come back from situations because the best teacher life is experienced. Yeah and i bet you lean on mom a lot to write. Your wife of white is incredibly important to with all the time you spend it on the road. I mean i. The three of us know as well. The amount of time you spent away from home is is immense and you really have to lean on your your partner To like my.

What might be our greatest of all time. Oh have with us. Someone that would be best described as a true force. He's taken the gifts he's been given and the influence he holds and pointed them towards a full menu of things that are truly too long to mention in an intro however a couple to throw out there would be the creation of a world class elementary school and a family foundation. He's part owner will of one of the world's most famous soccer teams. What and he has starred in five films. He's married to his high school sweetheart. He has three kids. He was recruited to play football by notre dame but instead this fool took a gamble on basketball where he just can't seem to find any success guys. Please meet mr. Lebron james did i have you full jason. That's pretty good. You've never been introduced like this before right. People go on about is a good one. Oh my god but truly let me tell you something. Lebron going through and i don't do a lot of research as the guys will attest my will go to a wikipedia page though your page is more of a book and i just i just hit f. It real quick. I didn't know where to begin with so much stuff. But truly this stuff about philanthropy and family and all that stuff. We're going to get into. Because i think everyone else knows the other stuff but men go ahead. Will you got something to say. First of all. I was going to say i just took off. I was wearing a lakers. T shirt this is crazy. I just took it off. Because i worked out. And you don't wanna get into my workout routine lebron. Because he'd love to the shoulders you know they don't quit. I mean i've tried to feel natural. Yeah but what about what about the liverpool element. That was a real shocker to me. That's not a smart guy but we'll did you know that wills a huge soccer fan the bright read that i'm a big liverpool big liverpool supporter. And i have been for a number of years in friendly with a bunch. But i had read that you were part owner which is so crazy. Because i'm like another thing. That lebron i have in common. Oh yeah shoulder is soccer to shoulder four. Two sodas and liverpool brian. I have to say this is. This is especially exciting for me. Because i know who you are. Yeah we we've had a few athletes on the show. And sean just goes starts playing candy crush and we pick it up After the the guest goes away thrilling. I i can't believe You're here. This is so exciting. I have so many things. I want to say to ask that. I just thought about one of the things is. You're such an incredible jason's right. You are a force and you've been such an incredible you're so iconic already which is which is crazy because you're you're still relatively young man A lot younger than we are. We can his dad. We could be established. You've done you've done so much and it's and it's so impressive to watch you do it and you do it with such. There's a grace about you. The part of the problem. I think about being on top and i wouldn't know but part of the problem is that you are subjected to a lot of you know slings and arrows you know from from people from all sides not the least of which is i think every year since you got drafted people are like. Who's the greatest of all time is like they have. There's a coal every six hours. Espn will put it on their page. Like and who is lebron greater than michael. Jordan's like guys he's lebron. he's his own person that that shit must get exhausting. Be honest it must be exhausting. Can't can't be exhausted. We i mean you said it but You know i've always looked at it like anytime you compared or you even mentioned what the grates that ever played his game. It's become humbling for me. 'cause you know the same people. They put me in a category with or saying compared as compared to that guy or the same guys that i looked up to for inspiration when i was growing up and i needed to in growing up in the inner city here in akron. Ohio so You know to have the michael jordan's and to have the kobe. Bryant's to have ken griffey. Juniors and dion sanders autos unbelievable sports figures. You know when when i needed it you know they helped me so it's like wow you guys are preparing me. These greatest players that i've ever seen when i was growing up as such humbling man. Yeah the stats will certainly put you in that category without even trying. but what. You've what you've done off the court the stuff you don't need to do but you find yourself drawn to do. And as a result of your success on the court has given you access to do in the capital to do. I find really really admirable I'm envious of it There's a there's a drive though that that has to fuel that because you're tired i'll bet doing the stuff that is your day job. How do you find jason starred tired for you. I'm sure you have a great infrastructure of people that can identify some charitable endeavors. That are worthy of your time and the attention that you can put on them I'm sure you rely on them a bit. But a lot of that's got to be your own self drive and to motivate those people to be diligent in how they assess certain charitable organizations and whatnot. Where does that drive. Come from.
