Who is the most intimidating man in the history of the NFL?
"Who is the most intimidating man in the history of the NFL since you brought it up. Meantime, for some reason is sitting in the seat of Billy Gill. A Hello to see you. You can check out her podcast with their dog als. Ada has to be in that conversation was the most intimidating man in the history of football. We about to have him on the line, James Harrison. Or is there someone else you would nominate in the conversation with James Harrison? It's Lawrence Taylor. I think that's I don't want to say that in front of James Harrison. He's not on yet. Right James hers and joins us now on ESPN radio. Thank you for your contributions. You know, always solid James. Is there anyone that you've run across? And thank you for joining us where you're like. Yeah. That guy is comparable to me in terms of giving off menace and fear. And this person is not to be trifled with. That I've run across personally. I would say, you know, like like, Greg, Lloyd. And that's a good. That's that. Yeah. Yeah. He you gotta you gotta go back a little further. Yeah. Met amac Lambert. He was a guy that had. And I would have to agree with LT. They go. They don't have to worry about it. He James Harrison agrees with you. Even though Meena is mortified now that she said that around Dame's Harrison who's a guy James if you don't mind, and by the way, he's a five time pro bowler. He's a two-time champion. He was the two thousand eight NFL defensive player of the year. And he played till thirty eight years old thirty nine years old. Who's a guy though, James that you looked at in terms of body because your weight room freak? And you're like that guy should be bigger. He's got all the muscles. He looks the part that guy should be better. At what it is that he's doing. You know, it's a number of, you know, I wanna you know, like name a lot of guys that look like Tarzan play lights ain't so I just had to be forced to look like Tarzan and trying to a little bit like through. Was there any issue in these Steeler locker room when you were there that James Harrison had to be summoned to go fix? Not really I mean, the only things, you know, if you know, we weren't planned up to par you know defense. And it was something that needs to be said, you know, if I talked, and, you know, people listening because I felt that off. So if James Harrison had been a Steeler last year, and you know, lady on bell is not around. None of this happens. You just you just drag wavy on unbelted facility by his hair like air, you're gonna play and you're gonna get in the huddle, no way no way that is this decision, but is for each individual. And I cannot comment or another man's money or how each shoes to make or not make that much. I haven't how about Antonia because if you're on the team, and he's already played all the games and you're in a big spot trying to make the playoffs is anto Brown playing Sunday that final week of the season. If James Harrison tells them the plot. That that was a decision that obviously to him from what I heard, you know, the press conference released that might sound at that was something that Tom decision. Also that is not up to my decision. You know, you can't go ahead. Hey. Hey.

"Atlantic 'cause you play on Sunday. Stone boston. What are you doing? The go-to chance right there. What other people enrolled there is countless times over the Weirs still here quotes, and you know, how much I like Tom Brady I've been on the team Brady forever. I just find that. I find the disrespect card hollow most of the time more time now. But I thought I thought I talked to you window at that, the we're still here is it about people thinking they state which is false. It's about people being sick of them. It's marked the security guard are outside who who'd rather see, you know, another guy come in and play. Well, then you just taunting somebody were still here. You may not want to see if you're tired of me. But what he said to the two I think it was Tracy Wolfson after the game where they beat the San Diego Chargers. He went directly to the sock. Right. Which isn't true, which is not true Bill. Ballot. Check. So on Monday at the opening night Bill. Check was asked about who the greatest player of all time is and he said, it's Lawrence Taylor. Remember he was the defensive coordinator on those great giants teams in the eighties under Bill Parcells. And so then the say the most accomplished player he said. Here's the quote, he said Lawrence did it for thirteen years. He dominated Taylor's the best player I've ever seen certainly the best one I've ever coached. And that's that's amazing. So he says the Tom Brady hasn't even the best player. He's coached so then ballot check then yesterday was this yesterday or this morning. Yesterday, was fouled up then. Okay. You said that about Lawrence Taylor. So at least is Tom Brady. The best quarterback of all time. Great quarterback, certainly put him up there against anybody. But. I feel.

"Adapting to the Lawrence Taylor's of the world with the west coast offense. So Lawrence Taylor was the kind of player who changed the game with his ability. So you don't just put people into his class willy nilly at the same time. Khalil Mack is is a game changing type type of guy. I mean, you're you're talking about somebody who who's not only making plays defensively but making game changing defensive plays with stripped sacks. And the like I I got to wait a while before I'm putting people in Lawrence Taylor class. But in the class that he he's currently part of right now, there's nobody better than than cl- MAC on the defensive side of the football. And that should be enough for the moment. You you're talking about probably the best defensive player in the NFL. Another one has perfect appears to have avoided a fine for his elbow to Antonio Brown's head and last week's game. Joe Thomas said this week that he should be suspended for the rest of the season. Other players have spoken out as well is perfect dangerous. And do you think the NFL should think about banning him from the league? I hadn't really thought about that extreme, but it's a dangerous sport. Right. And you can't have people out there making it more dangerous. You know, he's a good player. And sometimes there's bang bang plays that you can't always put on a guy. But does now have a habit of the sort of place. It's habitual. And if that's the case. Yeah, you have to start throwing him out games. And then eventually, you know, consider throwing him out of the league, if he cannot contain that, you know, I was talking to Marcellus Wiley. He's a friend of mine a couple of days ago. He's promoting his new book, and he put it in a way. I hadn't heard somebody else put it. He he said he he tells people bring down like, they're your son, right? If you're playing in the the yard, you don't try to send a message to your kid you bring him down to the.

"The year that Lawrence Taylor won the MVP. You got a lot of votes. Did you not just I did how many votes did you get eighteen hundred twenty one yards fourteen touchdowns? You were second. Yes. I have a good. A good year. So it's I is this the voting right here. Here's the Eighty-six voting for MVP. You're second. Dan marino. John Elway about Walter Payton. Okay. So you played against Lawrence Taylor. The idea. Why don't you? Tell us the story. What is my Rick is my rookie season. And they tell me this air. We gotta gotta gotta play where we go as you the black lines Taylor. Now, you've got to think I'm a rookie is my first this is my first NFL games a season opening the jazz in New York. And I said block it what you mean blocking and Bruce now he said, we just get his hands down. But I got to block him then he's in his hands down. I'm like, okay. So sure enough. You know is the game starts, you know, he's he's cursing the rookie you park. Pretty good day as the game goes on to the Kostya color the play the plays coming. So is the play where Mike probably gonna cut inside and LT come free. So let them come free. And I cut him and I couldn't so as I'm walking back to the huddle. He grabbed me about arm. He said, hey, I can't say what you say. Don't you? We cut me. I'm like. Cou okay, I'll leave. I'll leave the field. I go to the sideline to sideline. And I'm standing over. You know, we got the first down area. Nope. Not going back. Not going back. Eleven. Don't kill me out there. Us. No not now. I'll wait a few players and I'll go back. And so Finally I go back into the game. And after the game, I can wait to the game. I could apologize to him. Lowest Taylor says it game say, Mr. Rogers, one apologize may say don't cut me. I say man, I'm sorry, man. I'm just joking. I don't do me like. But let me tell you something when you played against Lawrence Taylor. He was the X factor in a football game. He changed the way office of Landman gotten this dance as you remember the three point stance, Detroit. He changed where they couldn't get out of it's fast enough. So they started putting their hands on their knees. So they can stick it stick it up. I didn't know that that whole deal because that's how fast he was on the corners. Well, the story I've always heard that ballot. Check Tedy Bruschi talked about this Bella check used to come into meetings in New England, and he would put in Lawrence Taylor video. And he would say just do that. We'll win if intent was a hell of a player just do that. Oh, yeah. Let me tell you something. He was just he was just that good. He really was. And you know, the thing is he could he could take a talk you down. I mean, make you like like talk you down. You know, I'm a rookie. I'm a little nervous here. But after that, I got used him talking, and I would talk back to him to shut up, by the way, I want to segue. To this in Jared goff's first game on Thursday night football. He played the Seahawks and he got crushed. And we bailed on him. And now, we know Jared doffs good. I locked I watched Josh Rosen last night and the lines terrible. They just fired their offense coordinator. And he reminds me this was Jared goff's. I there's a Nike. Remember that? We all said he was a bum. I gotta tell you something you watch Rosen last night. You do realize that both Goffin Rosen Pac twelve came from some money, not overly mobile throw beautiful football. I'm not saying Rosen's gonna be Goff. But I I'm reading last night. What people are saying. I think Rosen compla-. Oh man Rosen Rosen to me possibly should have been the number one pick. I don't think he would feed in Cleveland. I think they have the right guy in Cleveland. Baker Mayfield Baker Mayfield would most definitely he can throw the football. He has a beautiful pass. I mean, I talked to my buddy, ROY green and Zona a couple of the draft. How's he looking to camp? He's Eric may he can throw the football. He said he's future, by the way. You have a cousin who tied in regard, Ricky sue Jones. Yeah. He's great. He's great play your cousin. He's Michael he likes him too. I mean, this key can throw the football. But you know, it's funny how you can get away from a player in the eyes of buses the bus. But look Jared Goff may be in the same situation. If we had out same office coordinator saying head coach Fisher, but Sean McVeigh has done a great job of coaching this young man, it just shows the different you have the coaching it changes everything because a quarterbacks have to have the coaching. I mean, it's not like the NBA where I can get mine, regardless of coaching LeBron's gone through a lot of coaches. Magic was good with or without Phil Jackson for the quarterback position. Bad coach equals, bad bell. Come bet. I a good example. I can say is Jeff George and Jeff was a great. Teammate had a great arm had a great deal of the game. But the coaching just didn't have had no one to coach him. How to play that position? By the way. Andrew luck had Bruce Arians his first couple of years numbers. Aeriens leaves luck gets slaughtered. Frank Reich comes back in and looked having his great year the same guy. They argue is not as healthy now as he was three years ago coaching everything Eric good seeing you on a Friday some thoughts about LeBron last night. It's interesting. How fans don't like the move to Los Angeles. But I think fans are being hypocrites on this would LeBron. I'll talk about that coming up. Listen, there are smart ways to do things even in sports, and there's not so smart ways. If you're a hail Mary on the final play of the game. If you trail by five is smart kicking a field goal down by five is not smart at the end of a game to same with hiring ZipRecruiter. There's a lot of job sites. Overwhelm you with resumes and the wrong one's not smart. But zip. Recruiter's powerful matching technology scans thousands. Tens of thousands of resumes. They're gonna find somebody that has the education and the skill the experience for the job you need to fill and then ZipRecruiter. Actively invites them to apply. See you get a candidate who's qualified and quickly. It's rated number one by employers in the US. Right.

"Anything can happen in sports in often. Does what's right? What's wrong? And who's just crazy? Decide. Inbounds in out of bounds. Now. With GT and cheered paths. Prepare to face. The upstart bears and Khalil Mack coming up this weekend. Bill Belichick was uncharacteristically chatty. Bring up the name Lawrence Taylor. Good. Career starting Lamar state. Up there. Lawrence taylor. No. I'm up on any by laws Taylor last forever. Down below that. With a lot of respect a lot of it players now, but with my lawn service. All right. So Bill that you coach dealt with the giants from eighty one to nineteen ninety Taylor. Amassed over one hundred and thirty sacks and just thirteen years. Good for thirteenth most in NFL history. Interrupt L at a class by himself amongst defensive players in NFL history bounds. And maybe it's because I'm a giant. But maybe because it was my those romanticize years when I was young and impressionable LT was he was just a man. He did he changed the game. I mean, it's a it's a cliche, but it's actually true Cleal MAC and others. It will come behind him are great players. Blowback his first defensive player to be all pro has an linebacker in the same season. But LT was vicious, and he was means saying, yeah. For a lot of lotteries. I totally agree. There's no doubt Lawrence Taylor on an island by himself. I you could make.

"Like you're running down the line, the line of scrimmage, and he's just gonna light you up. And so we put in this play, we call the counter outside. So I come screaming down the line of scrimmage, like I'm going to hit him and I it the last second I bubble out in miss him and then tackle that is running behind it was Joe Jacobi cuts him and we were a team that never cut anybody when I played in Washington. So we do the play. The first time we run. I just about the point of contact. I slip him and I go up and I'm in charge of taking the whoever. The fourth player is whether it's a safety or corner, right? So I get on the safety. We get twelve yards and Jacoby comes down and cuts me are cuts him behind me and we get like twelve yards. I'm so happy because now I don't have to hit Lawrence Taylor. I get a hit at safety, right? I mean, this is like a good thing for me, and so we spend around with get twelve yards and he's hunting me up man, and he is MFN me Mike. Like you mother at Ben, you like, oh, like I was like, literally is just cut him. No, no, he knew I, I set him up. I'll do. The other guy could cut him and he's like, listen, mother. Well, you know, I was like, oh, he's doing q. To literally pissed down my leg so scared and that's how it started. You pissing during y'all my gosh, he was. He was so good. He was frightening. So he was, you know what? He was my, you know what the big deal is. Now is these marvel movies, right? Superhero like the wolverine, you know, I think aqua man is coming out. You know you had the who's the guy that flies around the superman. No, the suit he puts on the suit. Superman? No, no, no, no, no, no. I don't like me higher man. I superman, I think superman. Okay. This is gonna be nerdy 'cause I don't know, but I think like he's DC. I'm talking marvel. Oh, I see. Yes, you're right. Yeah, good call Ed pool. Yeah. Like like Lawrence Taylor was a living version of a superhero bat, like you put it on the film and he was like a marvel superhero. Before there was marvel superheroes in movies like that's what he looked like. He would do things that you just be like rewind that rewind that again, rewind it again. Like that's impossible. How does he do that? I'm curious how he would how it would work in today's game. Would he be even more dominating more scary because offensive line play sucks like compared to what it used to or would he be less because of all the rules designed to benefit the offense and especially to protect the quarterback? Well, I think I think probably because in our day there were a lot of seven step drops. There were a lot of, you know, reading out the progression, it just wasn't go from this side of this side. It was read one, two, three, then get to your backside, four, five. Like I think that that the way offenses structured where you only have what maybe eight legitimate pass, rushing opportunities game eight, twelve. Maybe depending on how the game is going to where in his day. You probably had twenty legitimate pass, rushing opportunities. So the effectiveness would would probably even with bat offense of lines. I think you'd have less opportunities and then the intimidation factor would be different because I mean, you're not allowed. You're not allowed to eat onions, pre-game in breathe on a quarterback. You're gonna get fifteen yards. So like that port, there's less intimidation factor because frankly, the game is shied away from it. You're not allowed to hit them like that anymore. So I think probably I, I wanna say Lastly, I mean, I don't wanna say it just goes, you know, I don't want him to listen to this podcast and then bump into golf tournament and having with my ass I'm just frightened. He still frightening. I saw him last year. I was calling game in Miami and he stay at the same hotel. I'm staying at and unlike literally he gets out of a car and I'm walking down the stairs because we're, we're going over to, you know, the visiting team's hotel do interviews and he just coming off the golf course and I'm walking down the stairs. And he steps out of the car, like literally tinkled in my pants a little bit. I did, and he's like, hey, Mark, how you doing? I'm like, hi, Mr. too. Splotch in the pants..

"Buddy man, Mark IMC. Still blown away just like just gobsmacked at what I heard from Bill Belichick the other day, I, I've never heard him so fired up. I've never heard him so loud. You know what I say my, the unmitigated passion it was. It was on. This is what he had to say about a question that was raised about Khalil Mack as as a pass rusher here it is. Career starting tomorrow stay little MAC. Third, rank up there better ones. Lawrence Taylor now. Yeah, I'm up on anybody, Lawrence Taylor's class. So whatever down below that, that's with a lot of respect a lot good players now that we're about Lawrence Taylor. From the top rope. The right old passion and through them there. I've never heard heard him like that. He could actually discern the words from his mouth. That was wasn't. I mean, you could actually hear him say Lawrence Taylor, a couple of times, man. Oh, man. Oh, man. Lawrence Taylor sauce. Hey, but I gotta tell you having played against Lawrence Taylor. I'm with him. Really. Oh, she. Not only like you can't intimidate today in today's game with the way the rules are bent toward offense of numbers and making this league a fantasy football league, like you could win. Lawrence Taylor was playing Lawrence Taylor was frightening. I mean, frightening, just down the line of scrimmage, froth in at the bit just ready to shorten your neck or murder your quarterback. I mean, it just and in back then you could murder a quarterback. You wouldn't get charged. There was no, you didn't get charged for that. You could just slam that do pick him up and put them on his head. Yeah, he was. He was frightening. As a matter of fact, we got the point game planning for Lawrence Taylor. First thing you're sitting in the meetings, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and you're like, okay, here we're gonna run this play. How are we? Gonna block fifty, six. Okay. Now we're gonna do this. How are we gonna block fifty six. What are we gonna do about fifty six like every. Single play. You game planned for fifty six and we got the point on their forget. It was probably my rookie year. We ran a counter away from Lawrence Taylor, and so he got penetration the backfield he jumped over three people, Gerald Riggs went forty some yards down the sideline. Me big win, and we're going in to, you know, to to be able to kick the winning field goal in late in the fourth quarter, Lawrence Taylor jumped over three people made to people miss on a swim move, took off down the middle of field at an angle, Gerald. Riggs caught him forty some yards down the field. Stripped the ball and took in the giants took over two plays later. They kick a field goal, you know, amid to win the game, he, we got to the point in Washington where we said, screw it. You can't run away from the guy and you can't block him in pass pro. So let's just run at him every single play and just try to wear the guy out and on there forgetting like Br. In the huddle. I mean, I called him Mr. Taylor literally I did, oh, hell, yes. I call them like we were running. We'd run counter and I like I break the huddle and you just kinda pick out of the side of your helmet like you just move your eyes. You didn't wanna look down there because if you looked into his eyes, you know you just pissed down your leg. You'd be so scared like, so I didn't wanna look just wanna peak to make sure like is he down there is the only in the line scrimmage ago shit. He's down there and I just knew like I pull on counter and I'd just fly down the line of scrimmage and the whole time I'm thinking this is gonna hurt me a lot more. It's gonna hurt him, edgy. I mean, you have these ethic collisions, and I mean he just unquote on your ass and just why. And then a huge hit and you're hurt like your neck and everything else. And he just be like, hey, good hit. You don't go take off and you know, get downfield make attack or whatever, but I'll never get. We put in play. Playing for the skins. And you know, I mean, this is just like I said, this is just brain damage..

"Remarks table map for rank up there. Lawrence Taylor now. I'm up on anybody Lawrence Taylor's. Plus, so. That that that's a lot of respect a lot of good players now. But we're Lawrence Taylor and endless go again. Obviously, he's a football genius. But I would put Reggie White up in that class. And now now again, I played when people are going to say, I'm biased, but I also Bill coach. Without by exactly right. I got I saw them all as I said the three players in my era that were okay, we're gonna game plan to open one. We're just going to throw was Dion Sanders. Reggie white. And LT LT and Reggio had game plan for DeAnne. You say, okay. He's over there. I'm not throwing over there. Those are the three most dominant players, and I would put Reggie up in the. Up in the Lawrence Taylor category. For sure read you probably would have been even more appreciated in this era, where we see the premium for interior pass rushers guys that can be versatile along the line. Reggie isn't. Appreciate it. Transferable skills. You are trying to you are trying to make a bit of a push for Colo Mak. This is my only because that's what the basis this whole thing is Coloma up in up in that category of like players hate the idea that anyone is unassailable. Like, we're having this conversation of who is incomparable in the world of sports. I don't think anyone's off limits. I think because we associate with us some buzzwords, you a great for a long time that doesn't mean someone can't come along and challenge that thrown we can have fond memories of you. You can be a part of a lot of great things. But all I'm saying is you can look at enough of the circumstance and say with what modern pass rushers have to deal with as far as the changes in the rules. You've increased the difficulty there for what these guys are able to do. And it's not like Khalil Mack isn't a greatness that over a long enough time period couldn't be mentioned in the same breath. But two things in that that sentence sort of undermine what you're going for. If could you know, I mean, we we it's a known with Lawrence known. We're looking at max career right now. And saying is he a guy you could see becoming like that. And the answer is absolutely. Yes. I would agree with that. But it will take time. Is it a guy that you put in the Lawrence Taylor Reggie White category? Now. No because it's incomplete still he just hasn't played enough. But you see his athletic ability and what he's able to do an even playing the run as well. And if you say okay stretch that out over ten years, but that that's that's a that's a long stretches. Well, you know, we haven't even talked about injuries. And and and also you brought this up Mike, and I think you're right. He is playing at a definite disadvantage in today's defenses. Then Lawrence Taylor and Reggie plate and Lawrence Taylor. Played his entire career in New York. So he was at a place with hall of fame coaches in a market that was always going to have him well notice, and it's not like he needed the help. But I'm saying all that stuff factors into our perception in the folklore that Bill Coolmax spent the first portion of his career in a literal black hole. I'm sorry. I'm sure you've made some great points. But I'm watching Moore's Taylor highlight. And are incredible. Just amazing one of my favorite things of all time. Lord sale was miked up. Now this is important now for a preseason game. It was a preseason game against the jets. Okay. We all know how we feel about preseason. He is before the preseason game. He's up and down the sidelines. Right, y'all. Let's go out there like crazed dog every play. And at what point he breaks through the line and sacks jets quarterback, Ken O'Brien? And as he's lying on the ground. He stands on the kneeling over him looks at Kent O'Brien says son, y'all got to do better than this. It's one of the greatest clips in the history of NFL. He's he was intense. So who is there MAC comparable to him? And then we've talked about J J watt being comparable to Reggie as far as down lineman. Because if you start to sit there and go by positions, the one thing Reggie did as Reggie moved up and down the line. JJ watt moves up and down the line. So I made that comparison a couple of years ago still again a long way to go. But with the way they're able to play one end the other end on the nose on the on the guard out playing all. Over the place. I mean. I just look at it. And again, if the whole obviously, no one's unassailable in this JJ watt. I mean Lawrence Taylor three defensive player of the years. JJ watt already through the early portion of his career three time defensive player of the year in the NFL a guy who was a pro Bono pro guy every year that he wasn't injured in the NFL. That guy's got to be in the conversation somewhere around more unique defensive talent. We've ever I completely agree. But for still a lot of these guys you can say they can be in this conversation. If they do it for another X amount of years and the tough part with JJ is coming back. Nice. He started out slow this year. Man, you gotta worry about the back injury without a doubt. But he's picking it up nicely now. But there's no way I figured it'd make you can't say Reggie White Lawrence Taylor. Khalil Mack JJ watt and put them in the same breath of greatness without those other two last two guys I mentioned playing more and doing it at that on a consistent basis when your star shines bright early on if you're that fever pitch look at gronk like I'd already called gronk the greatest tight end ever play football. Yeah. I think that's I think I. That's true. I think that's fair. That's been years now. Yeah. I think that you can look at his size and everything else that it's hard to dispute, especially the way he's been used and the things that he end it's it's hard to say, no, wait. There's someone I can say definitively in like production. However, you want to measure he can be up there. And that's before the completion of his career. And that's without the longevity of some of the guys this is his ninth year. That's a that's more than JJ watt and more than Khalil Mack. I mean, if his career were to end today, you would we could say that if Khalil Mack or JJ watt career ended today, you're not putting them in those other categories could have said this all after year seven for guy rob gronkowski because he spent all last year banged up. We weren't sure. He was gonna come back from that. Back injury wreck this year going into your nine we could have said all of this about gronk two maybe three years ago. And then maybe there are select people that you can say that about and I great rock, and I agree would be one of them. I agree. He would be one of them. I'm just saying that these guys are not beyond reproach. It's not a patently absurd. Conversation to have. That these guys are guys that are talented enough to do this quite honestly JJ wipes his eighth year. So he's not far behind Bill though. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Definitely stability. And I'll give you this. Because Lawrence Taylor walked in as the second overall pick to the New York Giants, and that makes a huge difference. There's no question, but they they invented slide protection the term blindside because of Lawrence Taylor. Those things just happened as I was watching these clips I mean, the violence with which he played it would be hard to legislate that today. I mean, it is a different dynamic. I mean there there is a different playing field. The bar has been moved for a variety of reasons. But my God Lawrence was just he was all of it really hit it out of the park..

"This map up there. Lawrence Taylor now. I'm upland anybody Lawrence Taylor. Prevalent. That's lottery. A lot of it players now Lawrence Taylor. The best part about that. Is that lets me a Bill Belichick goes out of his way to say nothing at all times. Right. He does he could not have wanted to say that more about Lawrence. Yeah. And you played against the the the way we would put it Bill went. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. And that was the closest you're going to get to build. Listen the era. I played in the best in since he's talking about the defensive side of the ball the three best defensive players that you game plan for one. You didn't you just didn't throw his way was LT was Reggie White was absolutely Deanna was easy. You just okay. He's on that side of the field. Kim not gonna throw their I have other receivers we have other routes, and we can cover the other two thirds of the field. I'm gonna lead that side alone. But for LT. I heard you talking about it. Mike this morning. You had to do that. That's where we started that slide protection because you needed help for him. And with Reggie Reggie was great at Reggio, go up and down the line. So he wasn't in one fix spotty played left and most of the time, but on the nose, certainly in the forty six at a time, we'd put them on the guard as well trying to search out that that the weakest lineman there and see, you know, who's gonna kind kinda is we're going to go wide. So you had a game plan him as well. Those were the three at least a Meyer, obviously, there are others. But that's kind of we're looking for. Now, we're asking at Golic and wingo. Is there what other player in your mind is there? No comparison to you can use the dole go there. Don't go there. The only one other that I could probably think of as right off the top by stats anyway. Jerry Rice, Jerry Rice, Wayne Gretzky comes to mind, right? I met full. But yes, Wayne, I would say Wayne Gretzky. Yes. Ali. I think is close in a lot of people's minds. It is amazing though, we say these guys are unavailable. Michael Jordan felt that way for a long time. We've been taking shot down a lot. We have. I think a lot of people still would say, Michael, Jordan. But there has been other conversation for that. There hasn't really been that about for for me LT in Reggie White. I mean, there are other great. Let's deacon Jones. If they counted sacs, correct? They didn't start counting sacks until eighty one to eighty two LT was was just coming in his ear. Yeah. How convenient so deacon Jones? The the record for sacks is by Bruce Smith, which with what two hundred I think are a little over two hundred deacon Jones, we would have had in the two twenties. I mean, how they didn't count the amazing how long that took. So there are definitely other players, but to hear Bill Belichick go there. What were they player was pretty pretty interesting and people need to remember before Bill was a head coach he was the defensive coordinator for the New York. Giants LT was his guy. He built his defenses around LT. And one of the greatest coaching decisions of all time was Super Bowl twenty five the giants against the bills were the bills had that k gun offense where they were spread and everything all over the field. They did all this kind of stuff they had Andre Reid. Don, Beebe, they had all these guys all over the place they had Thurman Thomas coming out of the backfield and Bill was the defensive coordinator. And he told his group with Lawrence Taylor guys. We're going to let them rush for two hundred yards. It's the only way we can beat them. And he unleashed Lawrence Taylor in that in that Super Bowl and. It was amazing thing. He's an amazing thing to say to see if we hadn't wasted the initial part of Coloma tenure in Oakland to start this and he'd been in a major media market like years now we'd be having a different conversation about him. And you know, what we'll still see you. You gotta give it over time. That's the one thing we have the full, you know. On spectrum of Lawrence, Taylor, Colo MAC. We're we're really just starting on this thing. So pro it to positions. A place where no one care because the defense is bad. He's the fixture of a great defense. Now, if it had been that way, the whole time. Lt is still LT. You're not you're not competitive with LT. Are you know?.

Greatest defensive player of all time. I mean, he was number three on right on the all-time NFL top one hundred list off to argue with that, but you're also talking to a native New Yorker. So I'm biased. I'm sure some folks in Philly would say there's a guy named Reggie White. Don't forget about the minister of defence. Who do we just have in your recently talked about how frightening he was, how fast and frightening he was or is that I, I'm sorry, I as, you know, I'm I'm here in NFL network. I think it was. "And every Thursday he will be on the call for Detroit Dallas this week. I watched him on the Green Bay Washington game last week. That was one of my top plays. The weekend was watching it and win the game outright. But enjoyed your call Charles on that game. What was your takeaway from Aaron Rodgers after that one because I saw him limp into the sideline of thought? I don't know how this guy is doing what he's doing is. He's he's got a lot of heart. Oh my God. We can say whatever we want to. And you know, how it is rivalry Chicago and Green Bay. You can understand why giving credit to those guys from from Wisconsin isn't a whole lot of fun for Chicago fans. But let's be honest about it in this case, we all get together. Just go do something else. He has a lot of people would not do what he's doing especially when things get difficult teams behind. You know, it's all those things that you can let let me get out today. I'll come back tomorrow. He gave me one of the great quotes. I've had the cover NFL football. And I asked him about the name before the game. I said, hey, you know, we can week out doing this Aaron really, and he just looked at me said everyone's landed on the line, I need to lay it on the line from my teammate. And I let rehab takeover on Mondays. And that's it. Well, I'll tell you what Charles Khalil Mack what he did to Green Bay and opening night and what he has done in the last couple of weeks. What thing is is being double and at times triple team and still making plays. It's incredible. How this guy makes everybody around him better? And until you watch it weekend and week out. You don't realize it. But you know, the secondary wasn't coming away with takeaways. The last couple of years lo and behold there coming away with interceptions. Danny treve thin couple of weeks ago NFC defensive player of the week. Khalil Mack true. Definition of a good players when you make other players around you better. And he does that he's like an NBA point guard, isn't he with violence? Right believable. You make everyone else better. You know is John Stockton. Magic Johnson leading an assist Nate Archibald. Many may not remember that name Nate the skate at one point in the NBA. Let this led to see for the sleek in scoring and assists in one year. Save made everyone else better around them. So which about with MAC and was so funny is before I got on with you guys punched up headlines of the league. And of course, bouncing right at me was Oakland Raiders lasted sacks and stop in and pass rush percents. God that's to be prevailing all your law is Khalil to destroy people. But no-one happier than Leonard Floyd no-one happier than than than roquan Smith. Right. No one happier than it came Hicks. And as you noted no one appears in the secondary. I'm gonna end up with this. But I actually ran around a football field, many moons ago. Obviously, I wasn't an NFL player, but I played at Tennessee bad conference at the time. Yup. And my freshman year when I read shirted, okay? Our defense at the time. Let's just say there were ninety seventeen division. What we were like ninety second ninety third in total defense somewhere around that same number past. The next year. We started to freshman me being one of them and two sophomores in the secondary younger kids. Reggie White was our pass rusher. No we finished in the year. We finished a I think I finish top seven in both total defense and pass defense. I wonder why. Yeah, I wonder for what I don't think it was our coverage skills. 'cause when I look back at of that secondary one of us played NFL for a very short time. So let's get let's let's see what the common denominator. Oh, that's right Reggie. And that's MAC does for you. Do you agree with the comparisons? That MAC is the modern day Reggie in a lot of ways. Yes. But it's just they're doing it differently. Because Richie is also eating up two or three in the interior versus the run game and Khalil obviously can play on the perimeter and play the edges a little bit more. But it makes sense in terms of where you have to account because you're watching plays. I mean, I go back to that Green Bay game. Just just right out of the gate knew nothing, and he's beating as you mentioned two three blockers at the time. I still remember play. Reggie made in college where he beat the offensive tackle. He beat the back who tried to chip out and pick him up. And then the guard had pulled back and tried to block him at the last second. And he took the guard and threw him into the quarterback and knock them over for. That's what Khalil Mack. You know, it's funny because Lawrence Taylor was in town for a football fan here few weeks ago that Pat him seed and a friend of mine talked to Lawrence for quite a while. And they asked him compare Khalil Mack to who. He goes. He's me. He said, wow. Leo MAC can be me. That's how good this guy is is that a fair comp. If it comes from Lawrence Taylor, certainly no question about it. And and and think of it this way. Do pretty women typically give out compliments about other women. Not always know rare though. Here's Lawrence Taylor. Keep you the prettiest woman in the bunch with about pass rushers off the edge. Right. Oh boy. He just gave out a heck of a compliment. He did. All right. So let's talk about this game against Tampa. Because I talked with you about this last week, and you are fully on board with me that if they beat Arizona, and they found a way to do. It wasn't pretty but they want to go to three and one going into the bye. It's one of the bigger games the bears a plate because they haven't been very good. Where are you on this game? I'm in the same spot. We were last week. And actually, I'm even more impressed because to me Chicago one last week without their again. You know, as you mentioned, it wasn't pretty but good teams. Find ways to win those types of games. And when you win those types of games it set you up for the opportunity to have the season you're looking for because you, and I both know you been around with longer than I have obviously Chicago long time. How many times have you watch them lose games like that? Whole lot all set up for them to win it right there. Probably the better team. Now. Probably and this is what they were. It may have been on the road. But still the better teams find ways to win them, and it was ugly. They made the comeback. They got it done. Now, you can kinda back sail a little bit, you know, because I think that there was a little bit of that holding your breath going into it last week like not as much less win this game more. So let's not screw this game up. And it's a different way of play. I think this week it's much more of us win this game. I don't think this is a game about screwing up at all. There's enough out there to have their attention. This magic is still there. I don't think anyone doubts for a second. He'll be the starting quarterback. I thought they tipped their hand. They said we're not gonna tell you who's got a start. But both guys already know. Well, how do both guys already knowing the guy who hasn't been around the team for three weeks just walked in the door. Exactly. You really you really think he's starting like, hey, we haven't seen you in three weeks by NFL rules. Able will be around us being beatings being. Wave room. But you know, something we feel very confident. You're ready to go about seeing you throw a ball that made zero sense to me, I actually laughed to myself when they said, we're not telling you guys, but the the two quarterbacks already know that case we know because you'd go through a week of practice. Otherwise what percent? I mean. No other NFL quarterback has thrown for over four hundred yards and three consecutive weeks. That's bits Patrick. He's starting this week. So so that's as I turned a Mitchell Trubisky defense is carried this team the first three weeks aghast fits magic. And this fucking ears offense you'd like to think that Mitchell is going to have to have a solid game via the pass. We Dan Alaska on yesterday. He said, you know, what throat you gotta throw out last year. And this now is his rookie year saying that the Nagy offense more complex, and that that you know, that his digestion of that and his maturation is leading to some of the happy feet, and some of the things we're seeing I said to cap earlier as I watched it, I I can buy some of that. But one there's a receiver. That's open. I see him over shoot him. I see him under throw a where are you at with were Mitchell's at with this quote, unquote process? How much do you think is learning the Nagy offense and how much of it is his mechanics in his ability to make the throw. I I have more on the the ladder, Pat. And I do the former and for this reason the Nagy offense is much more geared towards what he did in college. And then obviously, he ran with John FOX dialogue that crew. So that foot work those mechanics should be a little bit more muscle memory. You know that that's more of what you were used to doing because they're going to cater to that. And play to that. They're very smart crew between have Markelle bridge. I think some of this still the adjustment to the NFL game. Danilov ski has the right to tell me I'm wrong because he actually played the position yet that fell. I don't totally buy that you throw out the entire year. It's still NFL football. Right. It's still experiences. It's still pass. Russia's is still all those things that go into it. The footwork and learning it under that. That's why I have a little bit of skepticism in terms of that being the issue 'cause I still think it caters more to what he did before. But here's the thing. We have to keep coming back to its hard to do. I need to number two pick in the draft. Thirteen starts in college. So he's still growing maturing. Getting snapped think about guys who came into the league. And the Shawn Watson team may be only three right now. You put up a nice performance. How many stars? Did he have in college? And played in two national championship games. You know what? I mean. It's those types of experiences that go along with it. If you built ourselves quarterbacks formula that he didn't want a guy who had less than twenty five starts at college cetera, et cetera et cetera. I don't totally adhere to that. But I think that there's a good basis for it..

And then I interesting your take on this. And I mentioned a bunch of names. Did you see this and talk about this already the hall of famers with the letter to Roger Goodell? Now, our now so I saw on a couple of different websites. ESPN had it for sure. All hall of famers have send a letter to Roger Goodell asking for an annual salary and paid insurance saying they deserve to be treated better. They say Goodell's overpaid, and they will not attend next year's induction ceremony. If their demands are not met Eric Dickerson is leading this. Colin says Odell Beckham Jr. is everything the New York Giants are not

It doesn't work out with Odell Beckham and he's saying that you know, Odell Beckham a little crazy, a little sexy and the giants. They are the opposite of that. And this is what he said about the giants and their history was star share. You look at the history of the New York Giants look at their stars Mark beforre, Phil Makanji, David Tyree, Jeff, Hostetler. Phil Simms. Anybody, anybody got an Espresso, even your stars are boring. Who I mean, you know, he did a really good job of trying to not name like the biggest stars, which would be who I, I mean, Lawrence Taylor. I mean, yeah, sure. Lacks co bursts.
