All those places on its habitat is tropical and subtropical grasslands also like savannahs and shrub lands including shoguns and so it is a her before so it eats trees bushes shrubs so if you see one in the wild it will eat. You is this fact. Forty years in the wild and this is just ill history an endangerment so in the nineteenth century they were hunted persistently and by one thousand nine hundred seventy. They will only sixty five thousand. Black rhinos left black rhino poaching which is legal hunting increased in the seventeenth and eighteenth because of the high demont of the rhino horn in asia and the middle east which resulted in ninety. Six cent reduction numbers dropping as low as two thousand four hundred. Black rhinos left which is not for money. It's current threat remains poachers but with intense protection. In heavy anti-poaching efforts they are gradually recovering. So this next segment is kind of interview style. Somew- segments so. I found a tracker and just told us about himself and his job so i'm just going to be reading out. So his name is sub yuan. Howard right. He works for. Save the rhino trust. And he's been with them for about thirty is now and he. He says i started in one thousand nine hundred thousand nine as a junior tracker then became a senior trucker off to that i was team leader and now i am a principal officer in charge of taking each team to different areas and supporting them with water and food and everything else. "It it shakes you up when you get a press release going update aaa health. And you're like what. I got that i'm opening emails and going on. And he had a cardiac episode or event as they call it. It's a heart attack at overused. So now there's a bit of a euphemism for heart issue. That stopped short of a heart attack. Or it's a broad category. They were clear. Say it's genetic issue which they didn't have to say. But i get why they wanted that. In there we have no way to verify. The percentage of what happened being cardiac versus versus stress or health or lifestyle over the decades or even over the last month. I mean. I don't know i don't have a window and aaa just handling all of this but if if you if you look from afar and i know a of aaa just said you know what's going on publicly is in emasculation of triple h. And he didn't do the press conference with the media in the lead up to take over as he had done i think for every takeover for years and years. He had been silenced There was a story about him. You know kinda being unceremoniously demoted. He pushed back on that a year or two ago. Whenever that was but here he is the the the heart. The ardent fan favourite company is just yesterday's news and now he's getting pushed out of power by bruce prichard in john laurynas and vince mcmahon that faction and his beloved logo is sort of awful as it was for how dated. It was all of that you know. Even that's being stripped away like this was his project. This was this baby. This was his legacy and again in a scene out of succession or an episode succession. Like your what was the dot com thing that they fired everybody because on a whim and you're you're gone. Yup we're serious everybody. Are you kidding. Nope everybody's gonna sorry for spoilers people that wasn't a big thing the show. It's just a little thing. That was an example of a larger dynamic. I won't get into so you know it just feels that way very a just like triple h should just cash out and quit. You know what. And of course there's a family dynamic and there's all kinds of things that get in the way of being able to do what others might do in that situation. But i suspect pure speculation just looking at what's publicly known. That was stressful. And and i think you've probably felt disrespected. Demeaned and embarrassed by everything that's going on in the triple h brand. I mean his. He built his legacy on a really thirsty ego. Who is very attentive to his public image and hey to be rich and famous and successful in a doggy dog business. You have to have a big ego. You've got to be out for yourself. Oh can told me that. In the torch shock. I did with him twenty years ago. You know apologize for the fact that i do people. I'm paraphrasing here. That i do to people what other people do to me if they had the power or the or or or the the awareness of all necessary to stay on top and interpreted that so he has an ego. He might have tamed with agent fatherhood and entering his fifties. But this is like it's a real again. This could be a story this week. And we're getting into it now and half of the show but the triple h story right now is undergoing a really onyx. I would call it. Unexpected chapter from the heir-apparent. Who's got this darling. Promotion that shows. He's in touch with the next generation to your logo socks. You're essentially fired from a job you've had and we're going to just put a coat paint over everything so that nobody can be reminded of what a failure you were up against. W that's comes across and there's no especially now with the health issue. There's no way for him to do an interview or to have a sit down and do any of those face saving just a face-saving spin is what. Yeah yeah. there's nothing you know so now it's just gonna be the train keeps moving in. How do you do you come back later. You'd you know what happens when they finally started saying that won't be they won't be takeovers and you know you have an x. t. japan shit down and that's one hundred jobs gone. Look what mike. My first question when that happened was what does that mean for. Kyrie saying she finally get to no longer be at basseterre which was basically a youth amazing for her. Not being able to do anything and just an annex t you know what we talked about it last Everything and exte- uk The paperwork being put into basically dissolved the company which is we'll cooling also towards astutely pointed out it is easily remedied. But it's something that needs to get done before the end of the year or that's going belly up and what does that do for the indy wrestling in the united kingdom. When you've pillaged and then now you're saying here have flood we're outta here And the the idea to take over the world with all these satellite companies. I mean it wasn't that long ago that triple h was on these pre-takeover conference calls and it was being talked about on the mcmahon and michelle Wilson and george barrios sessions about all this expansion. All of that and it's just niqab comes in and just like what. Why how do we. How do how is that relevant our time and obviously code is is a you know maybe a bigger factor than nick khan and in all of this to it but it shows a lack of commitment to something that the wheels were in motion on in part because a w changed the landscape. It's one thing to a bunch of wrestlers who you don't want four thirty thousand dollars base pay. It's another thing to try to retain talent when w is willing to pay five to ten times that for some of these people that you think were all that valuable and just got in the way of of roster spots for big is i mean. Aws has has changed the landscape. That much so i mean you know. Books will be written on this era that we're living through right now in pro wrestling and there's so many moving parts and so many things to be resolved. I hope and i don't think it'll ever happen. Boy love from from from paul avec I'm not rooting for a divorce or anything like that. I'm not saying that but it might be the only way we get that book even then. I'm sure there might be an india test. We've seen succession wade. We know others works. Yeah i know don't don't don't maybe maybe anonymous can write another book. Oh that would be fun. And i'm not saying it's written by jeremy borsch. I'm not saying that but he might. He might be observing all this going on. You might be able to write a good book. Actually the number of people. There's actually a number of people in thi who could collaborate in right a co author or anonymous book who have been mainstays in annexed. Tea and have observed kept their kept their ear to the wall and Have seen a lot of a lot of what's going on with with triple h in this brand and probably are plugged in enough to really good book on this era someday. We won't need a a poll avec. Stephanie mcmahon divorce in a broken family for us to probably learn a lot more about. What's been going on this last year or two up. Against a w i leading to you know the the the the major changes heading into fall here and if you wanna stay for version of weighed i just wanna be at the whatever you know. "Lovely is a lot. Because i think because there's been a lot of trauma in regards to like racism and all of this like Sometimes my mind tons to go to places that i think some Week were easy to call out like racism or derbent things in sometimes. It's warranted but for my own mental health. That lake assume good hot. So i don't automatically jump to a certain conclusion me with my mental hub. Yeah that's really good advice because yeah you're right in this work it's just very easy for at least for me to blame somebody else for not getting something like understanding a concept or sting. Something the way i do and so yeah. It's part of that humility. But you were talking about in the work that we need to be doing right. What is your superpower. I think just for sure connecting people. I think that this work wouldn't have happened. Or this organization be what it is with foul the connections and people are brought together in it continues to grow because of our ray because of the connections. I continue to make including this. Now that's happening. Without outta and the collaboration there i wouldn't have met you all ray so on and so forth. Certainly nothing super hours connecting connection people. That's a good one all right. That was my last one. Some rockets your turn so the first question is what have you read. Heard or watched. That has influenced you the most one of the things that has influenced the most i stayed a the self-esteem buttigieg documents was talking. Apologist interested always thought they did other life. I would be at apologised out study. Animal behaviour been have this lifetime partner. Humane concerned like a very unfortunate. 'cause you're good. Science mathematics people said. Oh you should become an engineer dr. Yeah but that book was with a letter and i read it in with thirties. Hours blown away so yes ended has informed a lot of what i do. I see the commonality. Life and understanding are true story of being on this planet. And i think that gives me an ethical framework which somebody might say. Why would a biology textbook give freyberg but it training so that's very for king. What's a personal habit. That has helped you significantly in your work. I think it's a habit it's are the most people Could have it. But i get fired up to easily. You've told me about an injustice. And i'm angry and that anger is very useful because if i can control it a lot of fighter but belly and though like i said earlier i've been very privileged my life. I've been very lucky in so many ways. I also think that comes from fire comes from this capacity for that helps me so that habit of constantly getting all worked up about takes gives mediators energy. Yeah okay. I can relate to that. What's the best piece of advice you've received my mentor. Give you the advice. But i was wondering if i should continue to like us to get going into. Ecological economic economics. And he said think about. Can you bake the most difference like what is that you can do that. Other people can walk. And if you audit that space then you probably in the right place right. Just don't try it. I would say it will have to go to this disc and he would say hey. Can somebody else stand in your place in the process. And oh this seems like a strange advice to give to somebody but i was also doing math research and he was said can somebody else from the process to the research that you're working on. I said probably somebody who had visits abed. Maybe you should work on this thing because this thing is important bright the not the best example but i think really sticking do something that others would find difficult to replicate. I think we'll spray useful. And that's how i look at my work in my school. I feel like if i'm not there. Can they have a teacher. Who's lived in another bottle of the world. Who brings this environmental logged teaching physics and mathematics and the likelihood is the answer to that question is no. They probably cannot find another person like that. Yeah it would be that crazy to do that sort of thing so that has really helped me be battle and come to peace with. The work came finally. What is your superpower good in my head. I can trust on versus my head. I love doing that on the so. That's a one thousand five hundred thirty four times twenty bill proxima dancer there. But that's of the. That's what you're looking for. Yeah that's so cool. It's way better than that so beds. I love athletics at the head. And i think that seems like a super barnaby will because they don't see how it's deconstructed there's a process behind it unless your summer like this wonderful mathematician from initial davey. Who is just incredible like. She's a huge computer. I think most people don't see that they are patterns that the us to pull off certain sites just from at. That's not how start math. It was just like you have to like memorize the multiplication table and you have to like memorize like. I don't know how to describe it but we weren't given like smart ways of doing math. It was very clunky wide. And it's funny because multiplication bills are cool and symbolic but they also have to be given the freedom play takes and figured out ways of solving a problem as opposed to single this. You solve the problem though. It's just unfortunate that that's it goes back to that. Starting greedy based learning. That is just said. Don't it's most convenient for making this way. So that's how you're gonna love something exactly just memorizing specia- all right. Well we've come to an end to our conversation our session today. Is there anything else that you would like to add. Lo thanks so much this is about. It was very nice to meet you. I've heard about julia ward. But this was a wonderful way to get to know. More about you and suffolk. Thanks so much for doing this. Sparks and that you're giving voices. Two people lay laurynas about again. I see myself as an outsider here. Because i come from evade for my story very different. We'll give voice to people like isabella. Laura who such amazing more amazing and more vivid baller all three of. Oh thank you. I also feel that even though you do have a different narrative or experience. You're still. I think a demonstration of what i know we over use this word but what an ally looks like or what a change maker looks like essentially in addition to of course nora and isabel. It's the bill. Did you want to add any last words here. Good wanna be uber. You're working for giving a space to share our where it was nice to meet you somewhere i am. I always not an appreciation for educators. And what they do so nice to meet you as well. Thank you awesome will thank you so much trouble if making time and telling your story no be went like way overboard are allocated time but i really do appreciate the conversation. We had these conversations that we don't get to have very often just reflecting on our work and the impact that were making so thank you so much again for your time for sharing your thoughts and experiences and will definitely include links to your organizations and all of your work so that people can continue to learn more and also be involved.

Tenth nineteen ninety four marked the beginning of the highly publicized trial outside the courthouse in downtown manassas vendors. Sold lorena bobbitt t shirts to crowds of enthralled spectators. Food trucks even served. John bobbitt specials like hotdogs with french. Cut fries inside the courtroom. However the atmosphere was far more grave. A jury composed of seven women and five men listened as the prosecution labeled lorena bobbitt is a hotheaded and demanding wife. They claimed she attacked her husband. Purely out of spite their argument was substantiated by an audio recording. Taken by police on the night of laurynas arrest on the tape she told authorities that her husband never waited for her to reach orgasm when they had sex. The narrative of the fiery foreign wife was widely upheld by the nineteen ninety three media. But it was far from the truth. Laurynas attorneys described their client as a battered woman in the classic sense. Who acted out of self defense. She was caught in a relationship. Plagued by physical emotional and financial abuse. Llerena who worked as a manicurist reported that john frequently took her earnings and used them as he pleased. She testified that he forced sex on her multiple times before the night of june twenty third and threatened her to prevent her from leaving him. Lorraina told the jury that she had told four people in total including a neighbor. She hardly knew that her husband beat and raped. Her lorraina also claimed john had a habit of flaunting his infidelities with other women. He had previously strong-armed her into getting an unwanted abortion. He even practiced what lorraina called marine corps torture techniques on her which hospitalized her on one occasion by june of nineteen ninety-three lorraine defense team made it clear that she lived in constant fear of her husband as a result she likely suffered from post traumatic stress disorder and clinical depression laurynas mental state following the june twenty third rape could have caused her to snap the defense stated that the act was a combination of self defense and temporary insanity. John denied the allegations of rape and abuse. But his story shifted each time. He recounted it. He disputed known facts. Sometimes denied sex ever occurred that night and even claimed that lorraina was the one who made sexual advances on him nevertheless the defense successfully presented witnesses. Who could back lorena ob testimonies. Confirm john's clear proclivity for violent sex and his reputation as wife-beater. After eight days of deliberation the jury found. Lorena not guilty. She was sentenced to five weeks of psychiatric evaluation following her plea of temporary insanity in a statement to the press upon leaving the courthouse. A male member of the jury told reporters quote. We didn't believe john. After six years of marriage. John and lorena bobbitt finalized their divorce. John was eventually tried for rape in a separate hearing and was acquitted several years later. He was convicted battery and sent to prison following his release. He was convicted of battery twice more against his second wife. Stone tools suggest earlier human presence in North America
"Coming up I, though he's been looking into some stone tools, new muddling analyses suggest humans may have lived in the Americas thousands of years earlier. The many people bolts. Now the of when humans first arrived in the Americas is a hot debate for archaeologists. Well, it's actually a long debated topic as well. This is an issue that arose in the Americas in the eighteen seventies. This is David Meltzer an archeologist who investigates when humans arrived the Americas. Of the past hundred years, or so since archaeologists have gone back and forth on when this might have happened. More recently, thanks to additional archaeological, Ngoma evidence research, his off, starting to converge, go window from when humans first stepped foot on the America's. What we have coming out of archaeology is a number of sites that are sort of in the fifteen thousand years ago range. And so that gives us a minimum age. We know the people were here by that date the ancient. Is pointing to a split. Between Northeast Asian populations and those groups that would come into the Americas happening around Oh twenty, three twenty four thousand years ago, and that kind of gives us a maximum age so somewhere between that twenty, three, twenty four and fifteen is probably the window within which we got people leaving Northeast Asia crossing the Land Bridge and coming into the Americas within this window for many archaeologists. Archaeologists is most likely. The people entered the America's around sixteen thousand years ago. This is due to the prevailing well-established archaeological evidence, which is also backed up by climatic conditions before this time between sixteen thousand and twenty thousand years ago, it would have been difficult for humans to migrate across the Land Bridge from Asia Ju to the presence of giant bowls of ice in North America. This was a time period within the last ice age known as the last glacial maximum or L. GM. If you get to Alaska during the last glacial maximum your in a cola SAC, and so you've got basically two massive ice sheets better blocking your way out, but this week in nature there are two papers that pushed the date of human arrival back thousands of years before sixteen thousand years ago. One has examined the cave deep in the desert Mexico known as cheeky to the oldest dates. We have our somewhere around thirty thousand years ago. This is sipping our delion, the lead archaeologist examining the cave. Hundred years ago would push back human arrival to well before the last glacial maximum when blocked entry into North America. There were some clues that that cave have something. In those layers belonging to the GM that seemed to suggest humans and I was very skeptical, bought Chiquita Cave. If you go deeper and deeper into excavations without stopping when you hit. The Marker. Of the fourteen thousand orbiting thousand, you may get lucky. You may get into something that's been invisible for quite a while with evidence of human during the last glacial maximum, Ciprian was encouraged to look beyond the SPIRA and dig deeper to older sediments. By taking. SCIPION found an array of unusual stone tools that he thinks made by people that inhabited the cave. flaked stone tools made a very peculiar material, which is re crystallized green limestone. So they searched for this particular kinds of stone around the cave, and they consistently picked the Greens variety and used it to to make very good. Looking artifacts that are already shaped, so it's not the typical flint or obsidian. He would find many places during the Now this isn't the first evidence suggested that humans have been in the Americas this early. That oversights weather have been claims of human occupation born twenty thousand years ago, but these are being disputed by some archaeologists. Also there are comparatively few sites of this age in the US or Canada so far. If, we seem that people initially crossed into Alaska across the lumberjack known as Berangere, and then migrated south would expect to find more traces of them. Well. That's where the second paper in nature this week comes in is offered by one of the researchers who's been investigating Cheeky Wheaty Loretta Devia so we were looking at archaeological and colonel metric, so that's essentially radiocarbon dates, luminescence dates from forty two archaeological sides from north, America and Brinda by collecting and analyzing Archaeological Evidence News Associated Dates Loretta, and her co author were able to build a model of human dispersal as populations found out from Alaska across North America. Whilst? This model doesn't find new dates for out of fax. It uses known dice to suggest when people would have I reached the different sites across North America. We were able to see that. Humans were present in North America before during and after the. Maximum, but that human expansion didn't actually occur until later during a period of abrupt sort of global warming, this only did the populations were low during the last glacial maximum, and then rapidly expanded once things go warmer is also backed up by scipion archaeological evidence from the cave in Mexico as soon as you reach the layers in the deposits of the case that day to about. Eighteen, sixteen thousand you the number forty facts just. triplicated number scipion also things this could help explain what was so little evidence of humans during before the last glacial maximum. It's almost impossible to find them I. mean you have such a huge chunk of our planet with just a few footsteps on it? That's that's how I looked like I mean you can barely coli to. populated, continent, but do these papers roll back the daytime when humans were present in the Americas. Well. It may be too early to tell for David. Meltzer you heard from earlier. It wasn't involved in this research. When it comes to the cave, he thinks of a still questions be asked about the tools that were found based on radiocarbon dates that they have I think the radiocarbon dates look awfully solid. It appears as though this technology lasted for minimally according to the dates around sixteen thousand years with a stone tool tradition bat, long lasting one would expect it to have been far more widespread in the region instead of being localized to this this one cave David. Perhaps archaeologist just haven't found stone tools like this. Unless could account for why they don't appear to be widespread. He did have questions as well regarding wind don't to change over the sixteen thousand year period. They were found. The him is quite strange. CIPRIAN however argues the. Maybe that isn't so unusual. If you look at other places in the world during the Ice Age, the stone technologies did the remain the same for many thousands of years without significant changes. So that's what happens that she reach. It behaves more like stone tool industries in the old world where they remain unchanged for thousands of years for the second. Paper David Vote, but Laurynas analysis was sound. He did have some questions regarding some the sites that were included in the analysis. In some cases, these sites themselves, the data is highly ambiguous, so you've got a well dated site, but the artifacts or the indications of a human presence may just be shattered, bone or cut mark bone, and those of us that do field work that deal with this kind of thing know that there are a lot of natural processes that can mimic human actions on bone or stone, the debate surrounding when humans first came to the Americas is far from solved this newspapers at evidence to it been many ways. They raise a lot of questions as well. Perhaps though they will inspire archaeologist to dig deeper to find the first Americans at the moment subject to change if you look at the converging genomic and archaeological evidence, it looks as though people are coming in soon after the less maximum. So Sixteen fifteen and a half thousand years ago. Could they have been there earlier? Absolutely? But if you're going to make the argument, it's going to require you know well laid out case. That was David Meltzer. From Southern Methodist University in the US you also heard from Cipriani Audet Leeann from the University of Texas in Mexico and Lorena, Sarah Devia from the University of Oxford here in the UK and the University of New South, Wales in Australia, we'll put a link to the papers. Discussed in the show notes
