Thanks for having me on. I appreciate it. Now we appreciate you. I just feel like we're spending so much time on her devices. You know, I like to try to be text heavy. I'm not. And I and I'm always finding that I'm way behind the curve on stuff like this. Um and I just, You know, you've got some interesting things. You kind of wanna remind us that would you just give us any kind of blanket statement? Since we're spending so much time? Honor devices. What would you say is something that most of us really aren't doing, but should be doing in order to protect our devices. Well specifically regarding personal devices. We always make sure that you keep things up to date those annoying patches and updates that you see on your device devices usually related to security, and they're very important, often the ones that will usually ignore When we see those updates. I come in. Yeah. I mean, it doesn't just seem is annoying to do it. Go ahead. Oh, yeah, Absolutely. So, you know, really were trying to really build awareness across multiple different cybersecurity fronts for organizations And now, uh, specifically, we like just to talk about ransomware and What ransom Where is and it's a type of malware AK also known as just a virus that encrypts your data and threatens to permanently blocked your access, but not only blocked your access to publish that data to the public unless unless a ransom payment is made. Now this this type of payment he has usually made through crypto currencies such as the Bitcoin and Hackers used Cryptocurrency as their favorite choice of payment because it's untraceable and allows them to cover their tracks. Now It's just common hate, John. Let me ask you Is this coming? I don't know anyone that that's happened to would you say? How common is this? It's something that's very common. You've probably seen in the news, especially as it relates to businesses, and this is the type of threat that has had organizations scrambling to protect their systems against such a threat. A long time now, however, with the increase of distributed workforce and more people working from home, especially due to the pandemic, businesses and consumers need to be on alert because The threat is real. It's literally happening every day to businesses and people. Mm. That's interesting. Email. Fishing is another thing. When you hear about that a ton. Tell us what we need to know their S so so fishing is when we talk about fishing, especially when it's from a cybersecurity standpoint, we're not talking about that popular card game. It's really just a fraudulent attempt obtained sensitive information. Such as passwords, credit card information or other sensitive details by Impersonating a trustworthy source. And especially just do tive. Um the This is increased significantly, especially do the pandemic and relief packages with fraud and identity theft. We're seeing this really on the rise. Yeah. I mean, I hear so much about this. This has happened. You obviously I get these in my email inbox is it seems three a day. Sometimes some are better than others. Some will have tons of misspellings and I'd be obvious. Others seem really like they are a bank or really like they are, um, apple ideas when I could just think of lately and Amazon. Also, there's a fraud alert. You must, you know, gotta respond right now. Click this link. And sure enough, you figure it out pretty quickly that that's what it is. You know any advice there about how to watch out for it. You have a perfect example with the banking and you need to do something. Now, when you see e mails that express and display a high sense of urgency. You should be suspicious of those emails. But when you see e mails from sources that you do not recognize, be cautious. Regarding multi factor to FAA. So two factor authentication is something that can protect your systems beyond what your password can do. They can also, you know is an example send you Attacks message or push notification to your mobile phone. But even if you recognize the sender be cautious, because if something seems out of the ordinary, we recommend that you contact the center directly. Not by email. Don't reply to that. You know that you received but call them or text them Because if you send them back and email in the person who sent you that email has a compromise email account than essentially, you're communicating with the hacker. Hmm. Yeah, That's the thing that that has caught a lot of people. You start to get on the phone. Sometimes they even give you a number to call for their fraud line or their fraud department and I've seen folks fall into the trap. They're giving out personal information that leads to Horrible fraud, So it's not good something there's an alert today that sort of ties into this conversation. The better business bureau is saying Don't share photo of your vaccination card on social media. Hey, I got the vaccine. People are doing that, too, And they're saying there's enough information on there. That your full name Your birthday is information about where you got your vaccine That gives them a zip code to start going to work to steal your identity. They're just a few pieces..

"Back in the lower thirties and still breezy right now it's 33 degrees at midway 28 into Calvin 32 degrees. I don't hear your money on W g and the Dow is up. 243 points. NASDAQ Up 327 points the S and P 500 up 59 points. I'm Lauren lap on Chicago's very own 7, 20 w G and 2 33, the former Chicago police superintendent, Eddie Johnson joins the show. And Eddie I want to ask you. Did you get everything shoveled out out there? I heard you did some digging over the weekend. You were pretty busy. How are you? I'm good at a paper. As you know, be quite honest. I got one more little piece of parking space that complete Then I'll be done on the way. That's good to hear. You know, we got a lot of ground to cover a lot of things to talk about his want to thank you for coming on. First of all, it's not easy to talk about a lot of this stuff, and I know I wanna get your perspective on crime. I also want to talk about the circumstances surrounding your departure from police department. And you're cool with all that, right? You told me that Yeah. Yeah, you know. Look, I would tell you this, uh, right off the bat. You know, I With a lot of time. You know, this is the most significant amount of time I've been not working 31 years, you know, so I had to take time, especially after everything happened. Was just important to me to take time to reflect on things you know, and both professionally and personally and you know, I was asked the question before. Why am I speaking out now? And to be quite honest, you know, I had to take that time. Reflect on thing things and take care of people that were closest to me, you know, and really kind of look at my own mental and emotional health, you know, And those are things that you know, you just can't say you're going to be a better person will come out of something about a person you actually Have to take the time to put the effort in to try to learn from things you've done in the past. And to be honest that you know that's a job that's never done, but you still have to take the time to do it. Yeah, There's no doubt about it. I mean, and I've made the point. I have spoken out when this whole thing first unfolded with the situation of you being found in your car slumped over and those rank and file officers not knocked on your window, and that was sort of the beginning of All these other events that occurred and I want to ask you about that. But I made the point that sticking up for you that time because I felt like 31 year career does not get a race and all the good you did buy the that one incident. We've learned more about it, though. And I want to. I just want to ask you now. You know he as you look at what happened that day. Obviously you want to do things differently. None of us is perfect. How do you reflect on that moment? What those choices you made that led up to that. Yeah. You know what? You're absolutely right. I appreciate you, you know, give me the benefit of doubt. Or or just Acknowledging you know that we're not perfect people, you know. And of course, if I had things do differently, Of course I would, You know, And I think that I As a superintendent. I think I did a pretty good job being the superintendent. But where I failed was just or where I fell short was being a person you know, and being a husband. And you know, when I look back on that thing, that particular incident, you know, I should have protective All of us that were involved in that better, you know, And you know, I've never I was never interviewed. Of course, you know, before everything happened, so you know, as I said, I had been drinking that night. But the other part of that also was that the medication that you know I had had the kidney transplant and my doctors had picking the office certain medications, and I was supposed Replace him with a new one, and I did. You know, And that's my fault, You know, but that particular night I have been involved that night, right? We know we know the story now that there was a lot of drinking. You should have got me on the wheel. You know that? Um And then that's how you got to that point right where those officers were knocking on your window, trying to find out what's going on with your boss. Right? Yeah, I shouldn't have. I shouldn't have been drinking like that that night, but at the same time, the reason I pulled over watch what I said it was. You know, I kind of Uh, felt the same sensation. I felt be flying passed out once before. Now, don't get me wrong. I had been drinking and you clearly I wasn't planning on falling asleep. But that's what happened, You know, and I'm not personal. I'm not. But what I do think differently. Of course I want Yeah, I guess the mayor's decided New York Weeks away from retirement, The mayor decided to fire you because of you lied to her is what she said. She said very publicly. You lied to me about it and had no other choice than to do that. Do you understand her perspective there. How do you feel about that? Well, I can't believe me. And at the time if you think back to it, that's when the teachers were going on strike, and I can understand her anger with it and frustration. You know, I did try to give her an overview of what happened. But, you know, honestly, I knew there was gonna be an investigation. So you know, we know at police officers. When an investigation is launched. You're not supposed to really talk about it until the investigators talked to you, and it's not a defense, but it's just so that you don't appear to be trying to steer things one way or the other. So I understand her anger with it, But to just say I flat out lied. I would not agree with that. Characterization of it. But if that's the way she started, and that's the truth, that's virtually Yeah, I think one of the things I think that is always stood out about you two as being in the department and rising as you did first. It's your story. Any of us who've grown up in Chicago and see someone like you who's from the neighborhoods. You were in Cabrini Green, the 1st 10 years of your life. No stranger to seeing crime in your neighborhood and the impact it had on you. And how that shaped your views on D rose to be at the top of that department. It is incredible success story, and I just I feel I feel for you in many ways. I don't.
