Were just commenting on this sixers. Saying she looked grimy. She'll terrible bubble blonde. She's like i feel very bad because they show the comments that these kids are getting through twitter. Her parents mentioned that they had her going to therapy before she even became someone because they used to live in connecticut but then moved out to la to better their kids future opportunities that they were getting and yeah so hopefully she still in therapy if not. That's absolutely none of my business. Just doing what's best for her but the thing is too like when they are getting these comments. They totally ignoring the good comments. Because they see the hate karma and there's a million people could tell you you're funny and smart crazy but then one person tells me i'm stupid stupid like on. Social media in general especially for young people can be so damaging for their mental health. Like you know that comparison or that that race competition to like try to one up other than most follower skinny is the i remember you know my my niece struggle with that in high school. She's like you know this girl that i know from school has all these guys commenting on all her stuff bala. I wish i was like her. I do you want anything about her like. You don't know her at all posted the best parts of our lives if you look at my instagram. It's very carefully curated with all the highlights. Never see all the like the craft costly every day. "Film but it is so much better than honestly i would top five out of the. Mc you like really really good first time in a while the view as a without a kind of like an origin story right. Yeah i mean. I knew nothing going into it and i really i feel like usually i. I knew the characters claim. Even you know. Even i think maybe the last one where i'm like i didn't know anything about it. Was maybe doctor strange. Because i haven't really read much about guardians with for me. I was like. I don't know much about the guardians of the galaxy but then we all fall in love with them right and the thing. The thing was strong cheese like knowing. Nothing is a big task. Because you have to build the backstory up to the world you have to sell everybody on this brand new character and they do it flawlessly. The world is crazy. I mean it gets nuts and there's some stuff in there that there's no way you're going to see it coming because there's there's no way you could see it coming the fight. Sequences are the best in all of marvel. Oh my god. I also excited. I wanna go tomorrow and just experimenting on know very well. I really wanna see you tonight. I really honestly. I wanna see it again. Aquafina scenarious for duchy's in it. Yeah and there's there's two credit scenes so there's a mid credit scene and post credits scene at half of my friends left after the mid credit news and sure enough so be sure you stay for both. I'm really excited to see it. So we can talk more about and boiler. I fully believe that you would enjoy this because you don't have to have any previous marvel knowledge. Half of my friends who came with me are like not even nerds and they walk down. How does the rest of the universe without spoiling visit at all or is it just like case so you do see a minor spoilers. That just came out happier than ever sing the songs from beginning to end in the order that she likes him. Because there's three different modes on spotify. There's billy mode lyric mode. And there's another mode i don't know what the mode whatever i listened to billy mode all the time because i'm like if that's how she wants to listen to it that's all she played in that order and it was so good. If you like. Billy bush urges wanna see something and music definitely watches disney. Plus so does she She directing credits on on this. Because i remember when amazon day came out and she was doing a music video. She had directing credits to be completely honest. I don't pay attention to that. But yes i would definitely pop it. It was very good. I love billy and she looked absolutely amazing. She is reforming herself and she looks great doing it. The other show that i started watching my mom actually watches it. Like religiously and i just started because They have that labor day special going on on paramount this weekend of yellowstone. So i didn't actually get to sit down and watch seasons one through three all the way through because i worked this week unfortunately but i did catch some episodes and the episodes that i did catch. Were incredible. I was hooked very fast on this. Show is with kevin costner. Wes bentley. kelly reilly luke. Grimes cohost sir and gil birmingham and it is about a family who owns a ranch and the ranch is kind of on the verge of being sold or taken by other people so they are killing off these guys that are trying to seal their land country.

Well i didn't time travel back to one thousand nine hundred twenty thirty two. I stayed right here in twenty twenty one and i watch. I checked out two things this week. And i'm super excited about both of them. The first is only murders in the building on hulu. With steve martin and martin short and selena gomez and i knew pretty much nothing going into it other than it has to comedic icons and so. It's probably going to be pretty good. The first three episodes dropped all the time and then the fourth episode is out now. And it's about these three people who don't know each other but they all live in the same apartment building and someone is killed and the cops think it's a suicide what they are convinced that it was a murder and so they decide to create a true crime. Podcast called only murders in the building. And it's all about trying to solve this guy's murder and but secrets abound and each of them has their own little back story and a lot of things that they're not telling each other and it's a comedy but it also has serious and dramatic elements. Which kind of threw me. I didn't see that coming at all. But i have not laughed so hard in a really really long time. The first episode was amazing. And the end of the third episode in particular. I would say to anyone checking it out. So if it's not obvious. I pop it but if you're watching it and you're like i'm not sure. Give it to the end of the third episode episode of into the end of the third episode for sure because the end of the third episode to me was like a cliffhanger so well the cliffhanger but it was just so unexpected and so funny. There's amazing cameos in the show and i'm sure going to be more the that pop up before. It's my partner's been watching the and i've been like working while she's watching it and i can just see her dying laughing and what's going on. I see it in a freezer to watch it on my own. Because he's way ahead of me. It's one of those shows that like sticks with you so like you're thinking about it when you're not watching it you know and you're just waiting for the next one to come out. I don't like i was with one. Division where i was just like in the next episode. That's what's happening with this. So give that a try. I love it. And then i am like the lone ranger here. Who went to go. See sean this week okay. What can be said about the movie that has already been said online. It is everything that you would want and expect from a marvel movie but like way more. I'm not a big fan. Usually of martial arts movies and so going into it. I was like this is going to be like crouching tiger hidden dragon like am i gonna really kinda like this as much as i would like a traditional superhero.

"No yes man. So i subscribed don't even know sometime in high school in high school. They're like seventeen. Probably i got hired at hollywood video. And even though i didn't going to college and i took a bunch of classes. I always say that my real film education was like five years or something. I worked at video. I hope closed my store down like i continued to work there. Even after i graduated college. I was working like two other jobs. Like i was like still schedule me so that i got three free reynolds a day at hollywood relaxing so i would like close up at midnight. Twelve thirty and then i would go home. Am i watch a movie. That so i yeah. I got my film education video. I'm a huge boy bands choices now like the most problematic boy band and it crushes me. I'm a huge backstreet. Boys going with fan. And i gotta reconciled out later. But i don't care how long i'll keep going to concerts whatever So and then like semi recently very recently pandemic recently like last summer I am a stallone enthusiast. Im massive sylvester stallone fan. I watched nearly every film in his catalogue last summer And even got to when we reopened as alamo last over labor day all of our watching came into play because i got to program seven weeks of sylvester stallone under the banner. Sequester still load. Is that so you just like sitting down. You thought about so rest alone. So i well so my my gateway drug which claude van damme. Everyone was like watching oscar. Lake catching up on all of their like oscar winners and like i tried. But i didn't want board. I couldn't focus. Just wanted to see stuff explode. I wanted like just action. He's art foodies blood bombs grade that i've always loved action movies but i i don't so i started with jean claude van damme but it ended up being a lot of the cannon films and i realized i really like cannon films like i really like going globus productions like i really am into all i watch runaway train like so i started making money through the canon canon and a lot of it had. Ged in it. So i watched a lot of those movies and then there was obviously some dolph lundgren. I've always had. I think for dolph like even before stallone dolf moment but Watch got to cobra. Which was a canon that i'd never seen and over the top. Sorry over the top. Was i had never seen it. I programmed it. A bunch of times. Never assume watched over the top loved it moved onto cobra was blown away. It's in my top five stallone. If not top three i loved cobra This is so funny to me. Because i did a similar thing over the pandemic with the fast and furious films. I did not become like a fast and furious stan weight from it and it was like one way to spend my time. But it's funny to me that you like we're like oh i don't check these out and then just fell in love with silvester stallone. I love it. Yeah i just cobra is also. I watched see this last week. It just came back for season two. It's on apple tv. And i was excited about the show. You heard jason. Momoa weather keeps on in this season. Anything brothers lights. This premiered when apple. Tv started doing their streaming service. A came out in like two thousand nine thousand nine hundred and i was like super amped for it because i was. I loved the first season so the premise is really like. It's like centuries into the future and somehow some way humans mess things up and people become blind so most of the population is blind and it kind of gives a game thrown sorta vibes. But in this time there's this woman who's pregnant. And she gives birth to two ends who can see if all those this family and jason momoa plays baba and he's protecting these kids that's pretty dope chance season two came out just recently is say like drops all at one time or drops a new episode every week dubs a new episode every week. I haven't watched all of them. I just watched the first episode. And i think it kind of drag sometimes not going to lie but it's because you have to like really like pay attention sold me on it. Does your heart me actress. And he does a great job. He does a great job he played you know. He can't see the choreography and the fight is very gory so again. Ready for blood everywhere. Heads getting chopped off people just like it from hall arts. It's really good. I really enjoyed it so pop on apple. Yeah this is the pop culture junkie podcast where you get your weekly news and reviews on everything pop culture and as i mentioned we have lauren hair. Laura night of majestic theaters. And of course we have the arrest of our resident junkies. Let's go one by one and introduce ourselves. I'm shawna i'm hayley and i'm nicole and this is alex and again. Welcome to the podcast. Junkie stat was chaotic. You're welcome so let's get to know lauren. a little. so welcome lauren. and so you work at the majestic theatre formerly known as alamo yes. We are formerly. Three alamo draft has cinema locations here in the valley so we have not closed. We are still here. These come see movies. I'm still doing all of the programming. We all have our jobs were still locally owned and operated all three locations all changing their name majestic yes. We were franchises originally anyway. So by out of corporate and there is one location gilbert one in tempe in words that their location chandler. It's our first one. Actually chandler's is they're still going to be beer. Oh yes thank the brand new eight page menu. So we're not using a limited menu anymore. I mean you got the front. The back cut lake covers but yeah and then got inserts liquor cocktails and milkshakes and pizzas and we got vegan before the movies over what what like for majestic theaters. I guess what sh- can people look forward to kind of with the changing. Why should someone choose majestic over. Amc or hearkens elevator pitch time. Oh my gosh elevator. Elevator pitch for lake majestic theories in general. But not for like me specifically why you should come anyway. I appreciate it i mean. I guess if you weren't familiar before with aloe draft house it's kind of like a huge learning curve to try and fill you in but if you were for your without draft before we get one hundred percent i quote unquote get one hundred percent control of all programming now. I don't have to get approval of from anyone. Higher up budgetary stuff is localize. You know that's all discussed in house. So i can do bigger and better more programming and without having to keep like you have to play these dozen titles this month and then you can just kinda fill in with what you need et. Cetera et cetera. So we're still keeping the thirty five millimeter. Projector were the only are tempe. Location is the only location in the valley to have a a constantly active 35-millimeter film projector of the loft is really the only other one. That's valley we're still going to do interactive events. We will call them propped up cinema before they were known as movie parties. But you get to sing dance old along get interactive goodies like goodies with your ticket. Sometimes you wear the goodies. Sometimes you like use them in conjunction with the film toasted the scenery exactly. It's kind of like that we we do. We're gonna do beer dinners feasts. We have afternoon tea. That i want to start up again. Trivia unites yes. We still have trivia nights every wednesday we alter locations but it's like earth's wednesdays tempe. This month is a bit wonky because of like shutting down for like the as and having to back up we will still be doing trivia launch. A lot of new genre series with her friends at agfa. The american genre film archive will be doing Like i hate saying like chick flicks in guy movies but basically like action explosions. Miniskirts type stuff. And then we've got like rom coms I coined the term rahm drum today. So we have those series and we have our our weekly horror series will continue every tuesday at tempe and that is now called cinema terry so every every tuesday at tempe at eight o'clock we play a different or ub mine. Especially i love. I always love scary movies but especially during october and my sister-in-law tried to watch as many as october. I just completed. Most of the calendars today in october is like chock-full full for everyone and some non horse stuff. You got a sprinkle. I mean you can't just do a whole of or letter people that don't necessarily care for that. So we've got memorial screenings casino elbow. Mondo just died so I love it's really gives that community feel even though there's like more than one but you know it really brings people into really engaged in the atmosphere and the environment with the movie and might really like spark conversation and even friendships. Last time i went over there there was this guy that just showed up and we just started ramon over there right now. Ramon if you're listening that's awesome. I love seeing black widow. And i remember going in and then being like i'm not really hungry. I'm getting anything. And then they're like here's our special interest those yes. Oh my gosh yeah we. We really were rebranding majestic phoenix but neighborhood. Cinema grill is like what we want to be your neighborhood theater. I know the names of the actual of a lot of actual you know guests that come through at least i recognize faces now or the names older but but neighborhood cinema girl with like you know the people who work there you know their names and if you go to another eater in the valley like you don't know who the manager is. You don't know who programmed tuesday night classics that week. Like you don't know anyone is really accessible. Yes that's great that's great. You're gonna have a sing along for deer. evan hansen. Because i of that. I i know you have to know the words ahead of time. Though is what digest everyone everyone printed show man when i remember the show came out in the we we saw it and then we saw it again and then to sing along one and it was atrocious because no one can actually so fun. "I heard that the new last era bender is coming out on net flicks live action on the live action. Last air bender is coming on athletes. I wanted to be excited about it with the last time. There was a live action remake for the last night. I was completely disappointed. I was just like yeah. I'm not sure how i'm gonna feel about this coming up. And if there were to ever be a movie i would have to erase from existence. It would be an nine shamlan. Velocity so bad. That's how much i was disappointed. I don't even remember the proper name. You guys have a movie. You'd want to erase from existence to okay. My first one is in the similar vein of live action remakes that were so offensive to anime fans. Dragging ballsy dragon ball movie dragged evolution or something. It's just so bad like doku in boma or like high school kids. I i don't even know how to explain it. The only good thing about it is that mobile. James marsters and he plays spike and buffy. So of course like he can do. The movie is so bad. But the movie i think i would have raised from existence. Is this movie called. The love guru was going on my so so many levels so problematic his last week he got hired for anything to that like storm like it was so bad. It's just a fake indian accents the whole time like how could you possibly you would never be created twenty twenty one super racist not funny it like really gross like austin powers. Also i think probably wouldn't get created today but still kind of holds up like you go back and you know what you're getting into obviously so you're like ooh but then the most of it still pretty funny with the love guru. I i remember seeing theater being. Like what did i do. Watch the you went to your boyfriend. And we were like should we leave. I wanted to watch the trailer. Myers is a reference to merge in that movie that does. He's like meditating and says her name. Oh gosh how right. Thank you for bringing that back into my mouth. -solutely you're welcome all do the same to you. So the two movies that i thought of i would erased from. Existence are both superhero movies. If you could call them. That free marvel cinematic universe. The first is cat-woman berry which i got a free ticket to. And then i went to the front and asked if i have my money to you for making me. That's how about that like an to get to a different movie. Because i yeah. And then the other one is electro with jennifer garner. And i love jennifer garner. Jennifer garner electra. What's the other daredevil. And she played electric in daredevil ben affleck and then she got her own spin off movie so wasn't electric michael fusing this only a lecture on his own. Better probably call her. I'm like no not at all the only thing they come out of that elektra. Movie was the music video to evan. Essence like bring me to life mashed up with a fight sequence of jennifer forget some abandoned warehouse but other than that those two. I remember being so excited to go to the theater. And cds like how women just like destroy these characters and then they destroyed them but not in the way that i wanted them to so yeah. That was disappointing. All about steve is one that i definitely wanted to raise from memory and as earth. It was the search dumbest movie i've ever seen in my entire life. it was just very dumb. i remember was it. I don't even know one thousand nine not recent but let the two thousand. Yeah yes bradley. Cooper yeah here. Like rahm Obsessed with him so description of the movie. I've seen a lot of bad rom coms now that think about it. It puts me on the spot but when you said the love guru shana immediately. I jumped too shallow. Hal off has the highest rating out of all of of it as a forty nine percent tomato meter and a forty five percent audience score but like him unloaded them. My hollywood videos dude that movie but thinking back it's so fat phobic hoping she's stay i think when it stay skinny at the end so jets likely joe get off in love with her and he sees her in her normal fat sued and then he's like wow you're beautiful and then they right away on the motorcycle but i'm pretty sure she liked dips the motorcycle. The movie she loses a bunch of way breath feeling who you are impressive. Why too shallow. Hal would you said love guru. But i was like show how combination hawk from olympus games in mesa arizona.
