"They actually driving racing cars co. What a great experience. How how tough was it then. Let's talk about leaving home and making that move to europe. What we age seventeen something like that yet around seventeen. How tough was it to go and live in europe thousands of miles away from your family. Yeah i mean it was. It was definitely tough. Something even at points now. Still find difficult i mean. I did most of my racing over in north america. Starting karting thirteen years old from me which was quite a late start i did. Maybe we also don't know the exact number. But i could count on both hands. Probably how many races. I did outside of north america in my my car in career so not very many at all of see you know the goal was to try and make it the formula one and to do that and you had to go over to europe to race maybe. Can i stop you right that. The goal was formula one yet north america. There's a there's a great following for indycar and other forms of open wheel racing. Where did the passion for former one come from. Because there's even an indycar race was in toronto. Yes your home city so why formula one guess at the time prior to getting into carting itself you know. We always go to the formula one race in montreal and to be honest even when i started karting i didn't really have an intention or ambition to make it a career and get the formula one was only a few after a few years. And i'm like yeah. This is great. This'll be cool to try and pursue a career formula one just it seemed at the time and it obviously is not the most prestigious racing series in the world. I mean that's got what i walked on. Tv that's what seemed cool other other members of your family. Mcdonald's is a great team yeah little slight on dams. But i'm just the whole time. And i mean to be honest it after the first year was a question mark and they they kind of knew. It was a question mark as well. Yeah i mean. At the time that i went into form the to bam's was one of the top teams. I think they were in the top three or top five teams in the first year. I was with them. And that was the euro teammates with alex. Lynn ann in two thousand sixteen and then was a very very difficult year. For whatever reason it just seems like the team had taken a step backwards. And i was for sure. Not the benchmark driver means first year. But i know i know. "He's cars are they're so fast you have to be so on the limits and when you're on that limit it's like a knife edge if you go too far and really get but if you don't get to that limit then you're on the other side of it. You're you're giving up time and no one wants to do that. How much more is to come defeo. I definitely think there's still a lot to come for sure. I mean i think naturally probably from the first year to the second year there will always be a big improvement. I think when you when you don't have any experience that the rate of improvement will always be big. But i i do feel that once you kind of get over that let's say initial hump though experience and you start to get settled into a bit more rhythm more comfortable you're then also able to analyze things much better and kind of start to understand more what you know. The steps needs to take to keep improving. And that's kind of where. I feel like kind of a maui. Comfortable much more comfortable with the car. And i can still be improved. I can still be doing a better job. But i feel not a point now where i could stick. Estaban analyzed much more. Okay now now. Working i keep improving. I know where. I need to keep improving. It's been highlighted to me in the past races. And then you know obviously when you know there's still room for improvement you could take it two ways you could say all that's not good because it means you're not optimizing we can right now but i see it. It's good because i see i'm improving. The potential is getting better. And i still see this room to keep to keep improving so if i can get the chase those steps and get that extra improvement then. I think the performance will be where i want it to be. Let's talk williams. How different is the team. Now to the one that you first joined back in twenty nineteen. It's quite a lot that has changed to say the least. Yeah i mean now. I think the team is definitely has has the foundations to you..

"Forward compared to last year particularly over one lap. Is that how you sit. I definitely feel. I've i've made some big improvements in that area. It was for sure my biggest focus coming into this year to kind of close. That gap down to my teammate. In qualifying from seattle ver. Very good reference to you. Know to see what is possible with with the current car. I haven't ultimately. That's what you always want do is try and get the maximum out of it over over the one lap and you know the way i kind of explain. It is if you look at it on paper and maybe it doesn't look like it's been such a big step because if you just look at the disparity and qualify positions itself. You've lived the gap. Is that the actual. Oh i didn't know that. Obviously track the numbers throughout. I just kind of see. I mean it fluctuates from restaurants. Ac it's often. That's no yeah. I mean i definitely feel much more comfortable in the car. It's still no doubt a tricky carter dr in many situations and ultimately i feel. I'm doing a better job of driving around. I still feel. I need to be doing a better job in certain situations of driving around some of the issues both qualifying race. But you know now that the car is you know consistently can be in q. Two no question in the last year of a bit more challenging you really have to nail perfect lap and you still do have a very good but last year the difference between being half a second quicker and reality sometimes even gives you an extra position in qualifying still be towards the tail end this year sometimes an extra half tenth or ten is the difference between making it the cue to or not and then everything is much closer. You know you build the rhythm you can improve it more. Get more confidence with the car. And we've seen the car's potential to be in in q..

"And i usually do bathing indoor carty and they said do you talk to the former landrover about how similar karting is to driving a formula. One car oviously massive differences. Are there any parallels. Yeah i mean there's definitely parallels i mean i think specifically with the shifter car so gearbox car i think it is really one of the probably the closest thing to an f one car in terms of like power to weight ratio than fullerton. I would say so. I don't know the actual numbers by harbour. I would. I would think so before being informed the one. That's what i was always told. It's the closest thing to a formula one cars. But yeah i mean obviously it's very physical as well. Karting and formula cars is a completely different kind of physicality. I mean carting. You get beat up much more especially. It's a bumpy track having to use a gearbox card you know what's driving with one hand and a lotta time on the wheel and you just really get the bruised and battered whereas if formula cars whether it's know formula two or an olympic car formula one. It's much more kind much. Wears you down much more. Because it's you know very progressive but prolonged. Jeez let's say so. Not as bumpy smooth ride got gotta seat. That's to your body so it's more comfortable as well but it just kinda wears you down from like the time on time under tension type thing. Yes interesting so bitter that before belgium. Maybe would it be about idea to get back driving something Before belgium every time after the radio so weird when you jump back in the car. It's almost like going to jump in. After the winter break is the first time you sit in the car and the first lap just like. I'm going to be a bit bigger which i'm sure that's the first thing my engineer will call me up if you know just about because obviously is always a thing with tall drivers at a very funny dream. I've been told you could eat a bit more but Yeah i scarred a bit from last year if you don't wanna give any numbers out. But i'm quite interested to note. What is your fighting weight so basically with all of my kit because of my probably you know shoes boots helmets. Hawn's everything like that probably weighs about anywhere between four and a half to four point eight. Those obviously the taller. You are the heavier. You're should way because you have bigger shoes. Bigger suits more material. Maybe a bigger head helmet just defense so my race away. "But yeah, cool. Right that right. The way he's doing call outs in shit so top-five garner. That's weird. It is because there's only like a couple of guys who I look at it. Like it raises the guy like he's the next guy in a division. Everybody else is just kind of hanging around. I feel like Anthony Smith is going to get pushed into a title fight. And if he ends up fighting John Jones is gonna get murdered. So like I feel like like I like Anthony Smith, but the rate is better chance than Smith is what you're saying. Oh, absolutely doubted gray is is got all the tools like Anthony Smith has actually striker. But I feel like somebody like John Jones gets them on the ground. It's over. He has no idea what to do so ethics. We he's had a great run kind of like how ill Latifi had a great run and they'd just get halted. So I think it's smart if the US wants to put them in a title fight now to do that. But the rest of the division is shaking. Excel. Call us Condit versus Michael key. Esa fight in the first round second round kiss a quick submission here. And I mean, the only thing I took away from this fight is how the hell do Michael hokey lightweight. He was huge at welterweight yet, collectible fine fine. But I mean, Doug, he he cut fifteen pounds off of that frame. Like, he was huge. He looked huge against conduct. And again, this is why we need one hundred sixty five pounds at one hundred seventy five pounds. Yes,.

"Your riot hall third round o kale, and I can't figure out what the hell is going on. You're right hall 'cause he'll pull this out whenever he wants he just chooses not to he can't. That's the problem, mentally, he can't do it. Like if he asked to find he's one of those guys who go to a restaurant in look at the menu for like, twelve hours. He's that guy until he finds like the perfect combination for his meal. No, he's not he's he's the guy who goes in. And he goes to the same restaurant every damn week and he gets a burger, but guess what he's going to go the next week. Look at the menu for twelve hours. Like, you said at the end of looking at the menu, guess what he's going to get the burger you can only do one thing. There's no other choice. Like, you're good at one thing being aggressive and throwing wild fucking strikes in action people out when you don't it's ridiculous. The does nothing else. Choose from. He's never going to get the salad. He doesn't win decisions because he doesn't throw enough because he wakes for the perfect opportunity to counter like if you watch every single one of his vice even that highlight reel roundhouse kick on the ultimate fighter was essentially account off of a fake like everything to me. Yeah. Like everything he does is built off with the other person. Does in him finding the perfect opportunity throw. It's it's almost Adrian Brunner esque where he throws like one punch at a time because he thinks that's going to be the one. And that's always been my problem with your iheart. He's never going to get past this. He's never going to get past. He's never gonna put together punches. It's a mental block. There's nothing he can do to fix it. This is it. Me. Brightly for that too. And then chat Mendez get starched in his fight. Volkogonov skeet, which is nineteen to one ten minutes was rank faith in the division Alexander's skyrocketing of those rankings right out here, man. I'm invoking off like when I saw him before. Like, you knew what it was like I picked him to be mended life. You people that you're picking it'd be Mendez. Like, absolutely like have you seen this guy fight? He's a tank, and I figured it was going to be a great fight. And it was it was a great great fight. But looking he's just he's guy. He's not too far away from a title shot. Let's put it like that. He is not far away. Like, you'll probably find somebody else in the upper echelons of the featherweight division in beeline for title shot and chat Mendez ticks that loss and calls it a career yet, which is a smart move by Mendez, and then featherweight it looks real interesting. So people are calling for, you know, the chance to move up to lightweight and all that stuff. There's a lot of young guys still there for them for him to get tested. By you look at Alexander. You look be there. There's some guys there who can legit give Holloway some problems to that. That's going to be interesting to see how that plays out over the next year. Allaire Latifi lose Corey Anderson. Corey Anderson has nine lives to always pull these things out of nowhere. So okay. Sure. I think he gets right to this next fight. But yeah, cool.
