A historic impeachment trial in Texas to determine whether Republican attorney general Ken Paxton should be permanently removed from office will begin no later than August in the state Senate. The Texas Senate has unanimously adopted a measure that calls for the trial to begin not later than August 28th. Paxton was suspended from office Saturday when the GOP controlled Texas House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted to impeach the three term attorney general. Cruise ship passengers left terrified after ship sails through rough seas on return to Charleston
"A cruise ship that navigated rough seas off the coast of South Carolina over the holiday weekend has resumed sailing on its next cruise. Can Bitcoin Avoid the Partisan Curse?
"Today on Long Reads Sunday slash Saturday, where I want to start is with some further analysis around Ron DeSantis's announcement that he was a running for president and B in so doing was hoping to protect Bitcoin. Because this isn't a political show, I didn't get into the politics of DeSantis in America, although they are, of course, very complex. Plenty of people have pointed out that his focus on the freedom that Bitcoin creates is perhaps inconsistent with some of his other positions. But holding aside specific policies, there's also questions of what his embrace of Bitcoin suggests about how it fits into the larger partisan framework. CoinDesk's Daniel Kuhn wrote a piece this week called DeSantis and the Growing Culture War Around Bitcoin. Daniel writes, This week, CoinDesk published one of the most thought provoking and balanced articles on Bitcoin mining I've ever read. The report is focused around the Greenwich Bitcoin Mining Company in upstate New York, which was at the center of a protracted media cycle last year after environmental activists claimed the facility was boiling the waterways and poisoning delicate ecosystems. Those claims went on to influence an actual policy decision by Governor Kathy Hochul restricting Bitcoin mining in the state. The thing is, most of the worst claims about Greenwich were straight up wrong. CoinDesk's Nick D, Doreen Wang, and Cheyenne Ligon took a trip to Dresden in upstate New York to take the temperature of the lake and speak to locals, finding that not a single lawmaker visited the Rust Belt town or spoke to its mayor before drafting what is essentially a freeze on new Bitcoin miners. Most of the Bitcoin mining debate today has centered around the Bitcoin network's environmental impact. Greenwich became a lightning rod because before the company moved equipment into the plant that now uses natural gas, it was deactivated, meaning that when the miners were turned on, they weren't just drawing on electricity that would have been produced anyway, but actively releasing quote unquote fresh carbon into the atmosphere. The Bitcoin network uses as much energy as a country like Norway, and trying to wrap your head around whether that is or isn't worth it often comes down to your point of view on how you value permissionless money. Individuals can certainly make up their minds on the matter, but how a state should treat Bitcoin, for instance, whether mining should be encouraged or banned, is a societal level conversation involving politicians, stakeholders, and those affected.

Ledger's Shocking Move: Has Our Trust Been Betrayed?
"Every Saturday, I ask what the week before will be remembered for when it comes to crypto and the larger economy. And to me, there are two big things that stand out this week. The first is, of course, ledger. For those of you who haven't listened to the ledger episode from earlier this week, the TLDR is that on Tuesday they announced a feature called ledger recover. Now ledger recover was a way for people who were maybe new to the space or who are just generally insecure about keeping their own seed phrase on a piece of paper, which is how ledger normally does things. This new feature ledger recover would allow them to effectively have a backup. And the way that it would work is that the ledger device would send out a copy of the seed phrase split into three parts. It would go to ledger and two other companies, and the person would have to use ID verification services to request to have it come back. Now you might already have spotted some of the issues here. All of a sudden, a hardware wallet which is supposed to be a self sovereign device and totally outside of the realm of tamper ability, has introduced a whole slew of new weaknesses. There's a KYC and identity verification process, there's these three companies that are involved, but the biggest thing that had people upset was that in the past, ledger had made it seem like there was no way for the device to ever send out a seed phrase, however that seemed to be changing. Because of the device could copy that seed phrase and then encrypt it to send it out in these three parts, didn't that break the relationship that people thought they had with their ledgers? Now, over the next couple of days, ledger really dug itself into a deeper and deeper hole. At one point, it's team tweeted technically speaking it is and has always been possible to write firmware that facilitates key extraction. You've always trusted ledger not to deploy such firmware, whether you knew it or not. It's important to understand that at the end of the day, any hardware wallet solution to user chooses to go with will always require that person to trust the developer to build and maintain a secure device to store your assets. This was exactly the wrong thing to say. And just further outrage the community.

"North Carolina's democratic governor has vetoed legislation that would have banned nearly all abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy. And I replaced the belt Tension or poorly. Mhm mhm going to say about three or four months ago. Okay. I was hearing um A lot of noise in that area, right? Which sounds like the bearings were going bad. Uh huh. Almost sound like you know, when you come out and late And the evening when you hear a bunch of crickets. Yes, Yes. Uh so I determined that in that area, I replaced them. There and it stopped. Okay, well for stopped for about I'm going to say maybe two months. Did you replace the belt also? No, I didn't. Okay. I just replaced the polling. Uh huh. And the north Stop. Two months, Uh, lady in the north Begin again. And what happens is, is that When I come out in the morning, I'll stop the car. You hear the noise and then the North will cease after about two minutes. All right, and I never had that problem again that day. And it hasn't happened since. No, no, it has happened. I never had a problem. That resident I got you doing that day. Yeah, once I thought it up in the North will stop. The North was seized the entire day. The next day. When I come out, it will repeat yourself the same. All right? Well, you either have a problem with the part that was replaced. The tension of that was replaced as having a problem. Or it is the actual belt. And that has to be determined. You don't want to spray anything on the belt. Okay, That's the first thing of anything has been sprayed on the belt. From the previous diagnosis, meaning that when you first had the problem if anybody sprayed anything on the belt to find out if it was a belt or not, that could be some of the issue, too. So it's either the belt or you've got a part that's going bad. The brand new part that you put on two months ago. Is having a problem. Okay? And I did when I heard the noise, uh, spray on the belt, and I was trying to diagnose to see what areas that was giving me the problems like spray on it. Would it just spray on the belt? Um mm. Was CRC CRC or? Yeah, Mother Nature. First of all, Go ahead and replace the belt. Okay, That's you're going to need to do that, anyway. And let's see if that solves the problem. Yeah, you don't want to spray stuff on the belt. The older belts the V belts, yes, but the serpentine belts. They don't like that at all, And it could be slipping on a pulley making that noise, especially in the morning when it's drier. So that's what I would definitely do first is I would replace the belt and let's see if it takes care of it. If it doesn't take care of it. It could be the CRC, which is a fine quality product, but it just isn't meant for this application. Could have gone on to that poorly also and caused the problem. So let's let's do the belt first. And if it turns out the belt doesn't take care of it. It needed to be replaced anyway. Okay? Then then replace that the attention of the and take it. Send it back as warranty. Okay. All right, okay. He ended up stepping on a referee. That's what happened. I believe last Sunday in what injured his ankle last Saturday and injured his ankle. And he was not able to go for several games as the Hawks fell behind in the series, paving the way for the Bucks to make their way to the NBA Finals. JD for the first time since 1974 betraying insisted That he was going to have no regrets at the end of the series. He did not want to be thinking about this all summer long wondering what would happen if he didn't play. No, he was not 100% in Game six, but he decided to give it a go anyway. Here's what he had to say after the game about why he made that decision to play in Game six. I mean, all I wanted to prove coming into this season as I can win. I mean, I remember Sarah asked me that, uh, before the season started, not. I mean, I just remember telling her that I didn't care about no individual things, accolades. Anything else. I just cared about winning, and, uh I think, uh, hopefully people Have a different mindset when they look at me and that type of light So I understand what he was like What he's what his prerogative was. And I don't think you can blame someone like Trae Young. I mean, he didn't really get much help from any of his teammates last night when they needed him the most. I mean, they shot 41.3%. From the field and outside of a really good performance from camera dish. Um, the rest of the Hawks were six for 26 from three point range. That's not enough, and especially when someone like Trae Young because we were talking about this on ESPN radio earlier in the week that You could see this thing going to seven. If Trey is able to go lights out and just have a tremendous shooting performance in spite of how good the bucks could be inside the paint, which again they were, Um, but man, it's just tough to see because he is such a, you know, young, rising superstar who established himself as such in this series. And I'm sad that we don't get to see Trae Young in the finals. But you know nonetheless what an unbelievable performance from him throughout the entire postseason. And I'm really excited to see what this Hawks team can do next year and I don't fault him one bit for playing in that game. I mean, You can't have it both ways. You know, people expect their superstars to come out and perform. And he's the superstar that Atlanta Hawks team they are trying to stave off elimination. He felt like he could give it a go. He went out there didn't shoot well at all. But you know what you expect him to try to play in the game that matters the most the last game of their season. So I I have nothing but good things to say about Trae Young, where his career is going just the way that he has been emerging. Um, I think Atlanta you know, could be good for for many years. Quite frankly, they've got some decisions to make in the off season. But I mean, I think he makes that and it's more attractive place to play Courtney and that's what the NBA is all about. It's all about, you know, superstars getting other superstars. To play with them, and Trey Young is is phenomenal and I like what he said to You know about. It's not about my stats. It's about winning, proving he's a winner. And you know what? He is a winner because you had a little bit of that. I mean, there was a little bit of that perception that he was just such a big numbers guy. It was he Was He really like a guy that could be the star of a winning team. Sure, and I think he proved no question. He is a winning basketball player, and I think he proved a lot this postseason. I'm sad to see it and but I think for him the best is still yet to come, and stats were not great. In his return from injury, 14 points, his fewest in a postseason game. He's four for 17 from the field. Which is his worst second. We're shooting percentages postseason over six from three, his first postseason game where he did not make a basket from long distance, So I mean I look at this, though, And when you mentioned the free agent market in the free agent destination right now, typically Fourth of July weekend is when we start to see teams change in and rosters change because you have free agents going different places because of the landscape of the season in the schedule. That won't happen for at least another couple weeks. But I'm curious to see how Atlanta's roster changes now that they've established themselves as a place where you can come and play. And you can be with some really, really good talent. Trae Young. I don't know where you put him in your top 15 top 20 if he's even in there among your top NBA players, but he's established something there. The whole Atlanta Hawks team has. I mean, think about this, like they make a coaching change midway through the season, and this was a team. A lot of people pegged to be a first round exit once they get into The playoffs and and I think a lot of people wrote them off early. Trae Young was easily the most frustrating player for opposing defenses in the in the in the in the postseason. I mean, think about it took three rounds for someone. Mike Budenholzer and his staff to figure out how to stop this guy, and it really came down to one game, which was game to where it was an annihilation, where they were completely able to eliminate Trae Young. But beyond that, he still got his. And I think that that's why you know he's going to be such a big storyline going into this offseason and wondering who can you pair with him? JD. To try to make this thing go even further. I mean, they're one game away from making the finals and had it not been for an injury to him. That was just a freak thing. You can't blame it on, you know, load management, any of these other storylines and narratives that are out there like he stepped on a referee and he's a bone bruise on his right foot and sprained right ankle. You couldn't prevent that. But now, as you move forward like Atlanta was a year ahead of schedule, I'm really curious to see what they're able to do next year and how they can upgrade this roster even further to make it into the NBA Finals in 2022. I mean, the selling points are very easy. We've got Trae Young and oh, by the way. We went to the Eastern Conference finals and we were ahead of schedule. So I mean, I I get it that you know they haven't Atlanta historically, um, you know, hasn't been a championship caliber franchise. But again, you can say Hey, look at what we had. And even though we're doing one today and an ace hardware store that can be a different Game altogether, but frankly, in July in the months of July and August, I'm not around much, so it's hard for me to kind of stay up with and agree to do these appearances and book signings. So with that said today is the last one. Until we start the home and garden show season back up very late August. So it's really a little over two months. You don't get a chance to let me be that pair of eyes. That's really what I love to do. You guys have taken total advantage of the last 34 weekends. We started the first one on June 5th. And that was at jnr. Ace up in, uh What is it? New Caney Porter, Actually, Um, And then we did one on the 12th at Cinco Ranch. Ace Hardware we did. The King would Garden Center last Saturday. You get a lot of good insight from what's going on in the industry. What's going on with products? Um, you know, it's just It's just something that we always have tried The Foster. Uh, Theo, you know, just make the better experience for consumer with the best of the products and, uh, that's for the service. Okay, Um, when it comes to warranties, how does that work? Does it depend on the project? The windows the roof, deciding, Um, how do you figure that out for your clients? Well, I always tell people there's trumped up words in my industry in today's world, One is lifetime warranty. And you know when it comes to, uh, lifetime warranty. Hey can mean something very substantial. Or there could be a lot of writing below that basically diminishes what that means. And the other word is certified. There's some certifications that hold a lot of quote. And hold a lot of substance when it comes to products. Installation practices and what you need to be certified. And there's a lot of warranties that you know. I mean, very little or being a lot with J. F were master elite. Um, there is a 50 year, non prorated warranty that transferred one time. There's no smoke and mirrors with that whatsoever. The registered warranty and not only is it the warranty on the private roofing product itself, but it's a warranty with all the components that go along with it. And David, I'm sure you know that. You know you can get a good product. But if you get, you know, crummy, complimentary accessory products that this diminishes the life of what's there, right? Indirect. You want to speak a little bit to the window certifications and warranties that we have a JB Served with our two main lines. We carry paella and Marvin, which are the two really best known brands in the window business. We do offer pretty much everything else when you were pretty well connected as far as able to source products from other other suppliers. But the warranties in certifications, Um Tele does offer a limited lifetime warranty and other products today. Um they're the only would manufacture that. That really does that, Um, where take comprehensive warranty. And were all certified contractor, which means we've gone through the certification process with Tele. There's a handful in southeast Wisconsin. Uh, we mean, we always maintained in good standing that we have power support. They do a phenomenal job, making sure we're doing things right. And that the homeowners Gonna have that. That warranty you're going is there in the home? And with Marvin were one of two in southeast Wisconsin. A, um, credited remodeling contractor by Mervyn which again we've gone through training. For the installation process to make sure everything's done the way the manufacturers wanted to be done. Not the way the contractor wants to do it on day. That's a key to the success of any product. It's really the it's only As good as the installation. You can have a great product. So on Wednesday, I got up at 4 30 in the morning, our time knowing Trump was leaving the White House for the final time at 5 A.m. our time after the four years of absolute horror. Trump unleashed upon this country. I wouldn't miss that for anything, and I will never forgive Donald Trump for what he did to this country or those who sat back and neither did nothing or worse. I will also never forgive Donald Trump for his final act of cowardice on Wednesday, and the way he fled and slivered on a Washington on his yellow belly before Joe Biden's inauguration. I waited four years to see him refused to leave the White House and have to be dragged out of there kicking and screaming and handcuffs and preferably chains. But like all bone spurred bullies, Trump is a coward and ended his so called presidency with a typical act of cowardice. And as you might imagine, I got lots to say about the inauguration of Biden on Wednesday, as well as the departure of the worst so called president in this nation's history. What are these strange anomalies? You earthlings call normalcy, decency and honesty. And how are we supposed to react to a president who actually wants to save lives and not cost them? This is the most special Saturday of the past four years as it is the last Saturday, Donald Trump will spend in the White House. I don't know. What does And how refreshing it is to witness a genuine act of pure, selfless decency like this after a complete absence of decency for the four past long years. I mean, when Trump last went to a hospital to visit shooting victims in El Paso in August of 2019, he essentially abducted this two month old baby to make him and his blatant photo up. He thought Look better. Problem was the baby's parents have both been killed in the shooting. And he had Melania hold this orphan while he stood there with his stupid signature showbiz, the smile on his face giving a thumbs up. At the same time. Who commemorates a mass shooting with a broad smile and the thumbs up holding an orphaned wave. Answer a certified psychopath who was incapable of expressing normal human emotions because he doesn't have any including empathy. Hey, Your parents died a week ago. That's okay. You're only two months old. You didn't know you won't remember him so big thumbs up and smile for the camera, You little bastard. Sick, twisted, demented psychopath. And yet there are millions of people who are so brainwashed and stupid. They actually wanted four more years or even more of Norman Bates in the White House. Which begs the question.
