"And what he knew or didn't know, but I think it would have been I wish I had an opportunity to kind of have this conversation with him. Kobe, Kobe to me, the thing that I am so I don't know, I guess regretful is where I think Kobe was going to do some things be after basketball that we're going to have an incredible impact on the world. I just think he is thinking after basketball and his approach to things after basketball was going to have a like I said an incredible positive impact on the world. And I just think that it's a tragedy that we lost someone like that who I think, again, aside from his basketball prowess and all the great things he did on the basketball court. I think Kobe was destined to do some really incredible things off the court and you know someone that I always from the time I first met Kobe always liked him, I always thought he was just like a really cool guy and you know I would see him and we chat about a lot of different things. And you know, I just, I think, like I said, it was the last for a lot of us. People are still, I still have a hard time accepting the fact that Kobe was gone, just like that. That does challenging. And I know, I know he and MJ were really close and it was a major blow to him as well. So it's a hard one to deal with. It is. It is still. And it's hard to believe it's been two years. It is still hard to believe he's gone. And you mentioned Michael and the bond that they shared, you probably knew better than most of us, but when Michael spoke at the memorial a couple years ago, it was the first time I think a lot of us realized the depth of their relationship and how much Michael meant how much Kobe meant to Michael, we knew how much Michael meant to Kobe. And I mean, that was a very revealing moment, you know, one that I wish we kind of had known before, right? Yeah, and you know, and I think they both kind of kept it kind of quiet how close they were, but they talked on a regular basis. You know, Michael looked at Kobe like a little brother. And that was his little brother. And to me, Kobe is the closest thing to MJ that we've had to this point. But yeah, this is still tough, you know, accepting the fact that he's gone the way the way it happened. Well, Larry, I know you've got some more of these interviews to do today and I appreciate all the time you spent today and as well back in September. I do want to encourage people to go ahead and pick up the jump or not the jump. It's just jump. No the jump my secret journey from the streets to the boardroom, by Larry Miller with his daughter, Lila Lacey, and I just want to close with one quote from there that I just feel really resonated with me. You note this late in the book that we are not defined by the worst things we have done in our lives that we need to have mercy for one another and a hope for redemption rather than the American way of locking people up forever. Amen to that, thank you for writing that. Thank you for writing the book and for spending the time today. I really appreciate it. My pleasure, Howard, thank you. Okay, that's it for today's show. "How I'm feeling at this point based on what I did might change their perspective. We've gotten involved with an organization called the various to for justice math short and I don't know if you're familiar with them. But they do a lot of really good work both with people and currently incarcerated and folks who are formerly incarcerated. They do a lot of really good work with helping people educationally with job skills with adapting and re acclimating to society. So we're connected with them and we're going to do some work with that group. There's also in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia June, our justice system, high school, inside of the high school inside of the juvenile justice system. The juvenile jail there. And we have connected with them and going to be working with that group. So maybe help some of those 16 year old Larry millers in there who maybe we can change their perspective or change their outlook on life. Because, you know, to me, one of the things that we talked about in you and I talked about this changing the perception people have of formerly incarcerated people, you know, being able to quill in a given opportunities. But I also think that a big part of it is for people to change the perception of themselves. People to really change the idea of who they are or who they can't be. Because I think that's a big part of the issue. I think in a lot of cases, people in that environment in that situation don't see themselves as being able to change their life. They don't see themselves as being able to do anything differently. And I think, you know, hopefully, this story can lead people to understand that they can do something different with their lives. They can change their lives. They just have to, you know, be willing to do to work and look for the opportunities, and hopefully the opportunities will be there for them. But for me, I think it's really about changing the perception of yourself. So I had to I had to think about and change the idea that I can you know I can do something different. I can change my life. I can go down a different path. I had to really accept and believe that about myself. And I think that's one of the hardest things for a lot of people who are incarcerated or formerly incarcerated. It's changing that perception that I can do something different with my life. And, you know, here's some opportunities for me to take advantage of that will allow me to do that. On the education release, work release type programs. I think you mentioned pell grants. And there were other things that were available to you at the time that you were in prison that you were able to get your degree through temple university. You mentioned that some of these programs just don't exist anymore. Are you spending some time as well, whether it's working with lawmakers, legislators, in Pennsylvania or maybe at the federal level to try to restore some of those programs? That is absolutely one of the goals of this project is to start to work with and figure out how I can help to reimplement some of these programs. Because again, to me, if I was there today and coming out, I couldn't do what I've done because I wouldn't have access to the program that really started the whole process for me. So, you know, looking at how I can help change that perspective or help get those programs reimplemented or in places where they do have programs like that, helping to enhance those programs and make them even bigger. That definitely is a goal. We haven't directly connected with any one yet. And I think through the various we'll be able to really have some of that kind of impact as far as changing roles changing laws changing how the correction systems actually treat and provide opportunities for incarcerated people. In reading the book, the time in prison sounds harrowing at times. And I think it could have certainly pushed you further down a certain path. You recall an incident where you witness an inmate killing a prison guard basically right in front of you right in front of everyone. And you note that that was that night in your cell you decided I'm gonna learn my way out essentially. Is that the actual turning point or there are multiple turning points along the way. I mean, I think the two questions people might have would be how does and you described yourself as a model student up until the time that you had drifted into this gang, you know, those are the two things, right? Like, how does a kid end up in a gang who was a great student and really smart and had such promise ahead of him? How does he go down this path? And then the second question becomes the, oh my gosh, once you're you've gone down this path and the gravity of the crimes and being in prison, how do you turn your life around to the point where you've spent obviously a very fruitful career with Nike Jordan brand, obviously the Portland trailblazers along the way. I think those are for people who are actually interested in the human experience and what we are capable of, both good and bad. I think those are the questions that I think resonate the most. Well, I think starting with starting with the situation of turning things around while I was in jail and really, you know, to me, when I first heard about this educational release program, to me the incentive was, well, this is a better way to do my time. I get to be able to do my time outside the jail and leave every day and go to school. That's a great way to do time. So that was the initial motivation for me. It was like, hey, I know I know I can handle these classes. I know I can, you know, do this work. So this is a way for me to kind of get out sooner and have a better way to do time. As I kind of got into it and started taking the classes and started, you know, talking to people at the different schools that were coming into the program as counselors and things like that. You know, I started to really believe like, okay, you know, I'm rather than just use this as a way to kind of get out or to do my time easier. Really, maybe there really is something here that I can do to really change my life. And I think that was a gradual situation. It wasn't like overnight. I'm like, oh, you know what? It was more of a gradual, like, you know, this could really work for me. And if I focus on this and dedicate my effort and my time and my energy to trying to make this work and trying to see if I can change my life, maybe I can. And I think that's what kind of spur that change from me. It was more of a gradual, like, okay, you know, I think I can really, I think I can really do this. I think that can really get out of this lifestyle and get away from this situation and then not come back here anymore. And I think, you know, the more the more I got into it, the more I started to believe that, and then, as I started to believe it, I was able to, you know, to manifest it. But and then, you know, the other part of how does young go straight a student? I think to me, for me, it was the allure of the street. And I don't know, you know, I know that's not that's.

"Of that, and I can give all credit to mister white's family. They are the ones that, you know, that we're willing to extend this forgiveness. And so I give up on a credit to them and I think they are, you know, an example of what people can do and how people can forgive. And I think, again, they're a great example for the world today, just with everything that's going on in the world today. I think that family and the way they have approached us are a great example for people. I thought about this in the days after the story ran and recently, as I was kind of diving back into this and reading your book, I think some of the backlash to the extent that there is what's some backlash to the story is colored by your success, frankly. There's a resentment, I think that after the crimes you committed that you were able to build this incredible career with a degree of wealth and an influence and close to famous figures and celebrities and all this. And I think people wouldn't have cared as much if you just become, you know, a software engineer or an insurance salesman or something. And so I think there's that aspect of it. But again, one of the things with your book is that wherever you come from and whatever you have done, there is a chance to have a different life of better life and more productive life. Do you yourself sometimes find it hard to reconcile these two aspects of your life and how do you think people should view your success in light of the path that preceded it? You know, I do a lot of times how to have the pinch myself and say, you know, how did I get to this point? And I know, you know, I know I've worked hard. I know, you know, trying to do everything I can to be successful. It's a build a career. It's not like anything. I feel like anything was given to me. I feel like I worked for it. But I do understand and realize that I've been extremely blessed and fortunate in my life. And you know, I would hope that instead of being resentful about it, that people would look at it and say, wow, you know, that's an incredible story that this person was able to come from where he came from and involved in all the things that he was involved in was able to turn his life around and really become someone who's made a contribution to the world to society. And I think, you know, if folks don't see it that way, there's nothing I can do about that. But for me, you know, I know and understand and realize how fortunate and how blessed I've been. But again, I think I know nothing's given to me. I worked to get what I've what I've been able to do. And again, I know that, you know, when people look and say, okay, you know, yeah, you did this and you know, now you're here doing these things. Again, I agree with you. I think if my career was different if I was, you know, like you said, you know, software engineer or something. I think it would be a little different because my careers has been kind of public and have been involved with a lot of well-known and public people, I think that adds another layer to it that, but again, I'm hoping that people look at that and say, wow, this guy was able to do that, then maybe I can accomplish the things that I want to accomplish, or maybe I could, you know, take my life to a different path or go to a different direction. And, you know, and again, I go back to the opportunities that I was given, even when I was incarcerated in the ability to get involved in the educational release program that I got involved in, that was a game changer for me. That was something that, you know, I was able to take advantage of that really put my life on a totally different path. And, you know, so again, that's one of the reasons that I've done this that hopefully to highlight those programs like that and the fact that the one I was involved in and Spain doesn't exist anymore. But again, like I said, I'm just hoping that, you know, I can't control how people view my story. I can't control how people react to it. But my hope is that, you know, people would see it as something that can be aspirational. And maybe inspire some people. Yeah, and I guess my question for those people is this. And I'm not here to tell anybody how they should think about it. And everybody views these things their own way and through their own values, prism, I guess. But what is the alternative? For us as a society that anybody who commits a crime and especially obviously a serious crime as homicide, okay, you put them away forever and their life is forfeit and there's no chance for redemption. There's no chance for renewal to move on to do something else. Does that mean that everybody's just locked up in the keys they're thrown away? I don't really understand the mindset of people who have that resentment. I understand, they might be horrified at some of the things that happened earlier in your life, but you know, the point of our prison system, as I've always interested, the justice system is not just to punish, but to try to rehabilitate. Like somewhere in there, they're supposed to be rehabilitation too. So if people don't believe in second chances or the ability for a human being to evolve, especially someone who makes a mistake as you did at age 16, then I don't know where that leaves us. And so I'm trying not to judge too harshly those who are judging you and your story, but I also feel like this is part of the problem with where we are. Sometimes society that people do not have any ability to step back and say that people can evolve and that those opportunities should be there. I want to read a quick passage from the book if you don't mind. In terms of you're trying to or processing, you say that the remorse over my killing another black boy in west Philly when I was 16 would never ease nor should it. Owning up to the fact that I had taken a life might begin to free me, but only to a certain point, I will forever mourn his loss, moving forward. I know true peace will only become will only come by offering up opportunities to other kids in my old shoes for options beyond the streets and the violence. And you and I Larry talked about that exact idea back in September. So tell me about that aspect of it and what you're doing now at this stage of your life and trying to help those who might be walking down a similar path or at least coming from similar backgrounds in rougher neighborhoods, violent neighborhoods as you did. What are the initiatives that you're getting into? So again, one of the purposes of reasons for doing this is that, you know, you know, maybe there's a 16 year old Larry Miller out there somewhere who is headed down the wrong path or about to do something that they'll regret for the rest of their lives and maybe, you know, reading this or.

"And hearing, you know, what I've been through and what I've been able to accomplish in spite of that, the whole idea was that, hey, this could potentially motivate and inspire some people. One of the things that came out of it for me that I again didn't know would be a part of this was the fact that being able to get that forgiveness from the family and start the healing process on both sides. You cut a touch on this, but looking back, do you think you should have included his name in the book or more about him in the book? Obviously, you didn't know him. On the day that this incident happened in 1965, he was just a stranger on a street corner who you assumed to be a gang member of a rival gang and he was not, but what was the thought process in writing the book of deciding not to use his name? I guess the family has also asked, could it be included in later additions? Where does that go? So, you know, for me, the reason the reason we didn't include his name was that I thought I was in some ways protecting the family by not including the name. But I realized now that was a mistake. And that, you know, I should have reached out to them before this became public and had a connection with them beforehand. But again, you know, I thought I was doing the right thing by not mentioning him and I realized now that was not the right thing to do. I mean, I'll be honest and I don't want to make this about me or about Sports Illustrated, but I mean from a journalistic standpoint, I think we struggled with it a little bit too. It was a discussion. Look, we don't have the book in front of us, but we know that Larry did not name the victim when we discussed when we sat down for this interview. We know that from what we gathered, the name is not in the book. But we found something. Our researchers found it. And we felt that was our obligation journalistically. I guess look, it led to a good place for all of you. And so I guess that's the good part. Yeah, no, I mean I have no issue with, you know, the fact that you guys were able to find the name and put it in the article. Again, you're doing you're doing good investigative reporting. And again, I think where it ended up has been beneficial because again, I knew and we wanted to try to connect and try to find them. But like I said, I didn't push it as hard as I should have. I didn't wasn't as aggressive as I should have been with trying to find them. But I think in hindsight, you know, you speed it up something that we were trying to do because again, we would have eventually gotten to reaching out to them. But I think by you, including his name, mister white's name and the article that kind of speeded up the process. And it got us to where we are today. So again, I'm grateful that we have been able to make that connection. You mentioned trying to work with the family on some things to kind of create a remembrance of a tribute to mister white. I think there was discussion of maybe a scholarship fund or maybe other things for the family. To the extent that you can talk about it right now because I know things are kind of in motion. But what possible yeah. So we have agreed that we're going to figure out how to develop a scholarship fund in his name. We're in the process of trying to figure out what that's going to look like and how that's going to work. But we have agreed to work together with us and mister Weiss family to figure that out. And to come up with something that we both feel really, really good about it. And again, I think this is all part of the healing process that we're both both kind of feeling. And, you know, and I think, you know, at this point, we're at a good place where we will be able to figure out something that we all feel a memorializes him in a way that we feel good about. Larry, I feel like that adds even an additional layer here to your deciding to come forward with your story, right? Like you went into this into the book with the thought that you could provide an example and also that maybe you could change the minds of people on the outside of how we view people who are incarcerated people who have committed felonies, people who have committed various crimes and about the possibility for people to turn their lives around and find redemption. And so those lessons were baked into your thought process for the book. And when you and I sat down some months ago, this is adding another layer where I feel like, you know, in this very, I think cold and sometimes very cruel society we are in sometimes. Empathy is, I think hard to come by forgiveness even more so. And I don't want to start getting all luxury here. And I'm sure you don't either, but I do feel like you and the family coming together and the possible positives that are coming out of this, the scholarship fund and other things like the possibility of people finding empathy and forgiveness in the most extreme of circumstances here. I just think is really important. And I think that layer that adds on to this, I think, should not be forgotten either as people kind of try to process your story. I agree a 100%. And you're right, I think, you know, this was the whole idea of forgiveness and empathy and healing wasn't top of mind in terms of when we started out to do this, but it's evolved and become I agree with you. I think it's become a really important part of this whole project that we've got going here. I mean, for people to see mister white's family in here, mister white's family being forgiving and being willing to work with me and my daughter and, you know, in terms of helping to determine or come up with a way to moralize him. I mean, those are things that maybe people can also learn from in terms of forgiving and redemption and empathy. I think those are things that the world may be needs a little bit more of these days and if this can be an example.

"Way I've kind of approached doing this, how does that I believe that I've done the right thing by telling this story by putting it out there? Yeah, there were some bumps in terms of things that I probably should have done different. Like, you know, connect with mister Weiss family before the story became public. But I still believe that this is the right thing and that it will have a positive impact on a number of people. So, you know, I like I said I didn't read a lot of the stuff positive or negative. And I just am continuing to focus on why we did this and why I think this is going to be something that can benefit and help other people. So I really didn't get too involved in the negative or the positive feedback. It was more and to me, you know, most of the feedback that I got directly was from people that I know. And people who reached out to me to say, you know what, what you're doing is the right thing. I know who you are today. I know that's not who you who you are not who you were back then. And again, to me, that's where that's where my focus was. Not necessarily on any of the negative stuff, because once I was able to connect with lister Weiss family and spend some time with them and kind of, you know, start the healing process with them. I wasn't really that concerned about the negative stuff that was out there. Yeah. Well, you know, look, your book, a very strong theme and one of your motivations for writing the book was that you want to convey to others who have taken a turn a wrong turn in their lives and might have ended up in prison or other things that they might have gone through that you can be an example of how you can turn your life around and still have a productive life and be part of society. There's that theme, there are themes of redemption in your book and in the interview that you and I did back in September, there's lessons here that, you know, certainly are part of your motivation for telling your story all these years later you didn't have to finally do this. And there is part of this that was kind of for your own I think peace of mind and inner peace, but this other aspect of it is that you wanted to further some of these issues, you want to bring back some of these programs to the prison system where people can get on an education release or a work release. There's a lot of these things and it got lost, I think, for some people because of their harsh reactions of vitriolic or judgmental reactions, which I understand. And I'm not judging anybody for their judgment or the way they reacted. I understand that people took the story in a variety of ways. Some criticism that came up though Larry, I definitely understood and you've kind of touched on some of it. That you hadn't reached out to the family of Edward David white ahead of time and didn't tell them. And so they were as The New York Times story a month later, put it out there. They were blindsided by by my story by your disclosure in my story. The times did a story a month later as I said, they spoke to several family members. They were pretty anguished about it. You and your reps declined comment, I should note for that piece, but there was another piece that just ran a few days ago before you and I are taping this. That you and the family did meet on, I believe December 17th with David white's sister and his son and daughter and you did speak to the times for that story I should note, give me a little sense of how that meeting finally came about and what that meant for you and for them to be in a room together discuss. So I have to go back to your story because you including mister Weiss name was really what opened this all up because to your point I hadn't mentioned this name. And to my I should have, I should have reached out to the family. I acknowledge that, but your story actually opened the door and then The New York Times story, even though it had some maybe negative connotations to it, it really did allow the connection because we reached out to the reporter who and asked if he would put us in contact with the family. Because up to that point up until the time that New York Times article ran, we still hadn't made contact. We were trying. We had a private investigator who was looking to try to track down because we had no idea who from the family was still around or what the situation was. So that really in hindsight was a positive thing because it opened up the door and allowed us to make the connection through the reporter. We reached out and asked if they would be willing to meet with us. They were. And it was an amazing situation for me. Walking into the meeting, I was nervous. I was anxious and didn't know what to expect from him. And I'm sure it was the same on their side. You know, the meeting started out. I sat down and you know expressed my sorrow and remorse for what I had done in the pain that I caused their family. And they then each spoke their feelings shared their feelings and then but at the end of each one of them speaking and sharing their feelings, they said, but I forgive you. And to me, if nothing else comes out of this book, that is the most important thing for me personally. I'm still hoping that other people can benefit from this and that was the reason we did it. But for me, personally, having that forgiveness from the family, it means everything to me. And it's the most important thing that could have come out of this. After we talked about after day art, said the peace and forgave we talked about how we would work together to memorialize mister white. And we're in the process of doing that right now. We're in the process of working that out right now. At the end of the meeting, they each hug me and I couldn't have asked for anything more than that to have their forgiveness to have them, you know, say that, you know, they forgive me and they want to move on together and figure out how we can heal together from this. So the meeting could not have gone better from my perspective. Yeah. I imagine that must have been a very emotional and emotionally taught room and you know I don't know how long you guys were there, how long this conversation lasted, but..

Joe don baker care to bat with him and he smacked everybody and as well as movies. It's of course. It's not going to get critical acclaim. So it's not gonna be eighty percent but i don't know twenty three or possible like fifty nine fifty five because it wasn't a bad action movie i'd the rock and they're not going to give it great notices because it's just this kind of movie which i don't like by the way we go. Hey this kind of movie so can't be one hundred. One hundred every category should be able to have a potential hundred hampered by genre right. I'm going to say fifty seven percent. Sixty one fifty. Walking tall is rotten. Twenty six twenty seven or something like that people had at sixty see there. Being snobs like it was fine just for fun. What was the score of the score of traffic gorgeous. "That great are the writers. That great is glee. That great like is john. No kane clinch. Yeah that's what the fans call themselves. Sure that people who like it are super into it. And i mean her character is kinda fun evil. All right remember. Made the case for being the most underpaid after in hollywood ca everything she does get better as a result of her being in. It seems that way like her. Her senior movie was fantastic and one of the best seems. The movie was Yeah i'm glad you liked it. And she was great like she knew she owned it like she had a whole bunch of technical stuff to remember. And she memorized ole shitty independent film. And i don't know why she even gave a shit and she was there and she was ready to go and she was nice as hell or bitchy agent when let she she had to go un credited because every agents horrible in this town but She was sweet. She was right there and never complained. Or anything you're begrudging are her moment in the sun moments moments. No i'm happy for. But i mean it's just glee whenever there's an award show just nothing but glee also a lot of social network yup and couldn't happen. Oh by the way. I had a weird little moment. i I was sitting around on sunday David gell golden globes was about noon and i was looking at Jesse eisenberg's Email that he sent me. He sent email while because i told him to was standing. Stan i was standing backstage of the tonight. Show just chatting with him and Not backstage but backstage backstage. Like in front of his dressing room and We're just talking. And i asked him if he was in town. And where he lived in new york and blah blah blah and. I said you know christoph. Waltz came in and sat down with us and i said kristof next embassy. You you'll be holding the holding the oscar. Any laugh teams a gentleman all that stuff and next time he came back in town. Sure enough told me oscar. So i said You know jesse you want an oscar. This year combined do the podcast. And we'll give you some of the mojo and he was real sweet guy real nice guy wanna call him a kid because young but it was sweet. And he said he's fan and blah blah blah. And i said well. I said Once you give me your email and You know we'll exchange information and You know when you're in town combined do the podcast so It straight and that was a couple of weeks ago and it was just sitting on my computer. Just suggesting his email and so He just emailed me his email. So i was just sitting around seven sitting on my computer and yesterday or sunday about Noon i was just sitting around. I was looking at his thing and i thought I bet he's in town for the golden globes. He must be in town. It must be. I'm i'm stupid like i didn't know there nominated for all the stuff are nominated for so i just thought you know i'm gonna shoot them an email and i'll shoot him an email that says Hey come down and do the podcast and You know if not we can come to you. We've done that before and we'll we'll show at the hotel. It's fun it's easy. Whatever you wanna talk about and No problem but i wasn't. I didn't mean imply today today was golden globe. Did we supposed to be hanging out with jesse right now. Should be dammit. I said So i send him emails saying you know when you have some time or when you're back in town or when you're around or something like that. He emailed me back like eight minutes later. Nicely saying that well. He couldn't do it today because the golden glove. I and i felt stupid like i'm not asking you on golden globe day that day at noon. Hey what are you doing. You wanna go throw the frisbee down at the park. So guy old dude who you don't know so he said i can't do it today but i i'd like to do it and i thought oh. I sent him back when said no. I'm sorry wasn't asking for today. But just whatever and then it just starts guy got right back to me on the email the golden probably fitted for talks. And then i thought well you did do the social networks. There's a certain responsibility. He kinda got to be good on the computer. That's an email about the fact that you sent him an email. I'm not good at that. He did it well today. I did. I figured it out. Yes thank you all right Let's see one more story one more story. My favorite story A boston cat. Sorry boston cat has been called to jury. Duty sal esposito. That's the cat received. A summons after its owner received a summoned after its owner filled out some info about him on her census form. And that's the human tried to get sal out of jury duty by saying he didn't speak or understand english and she included a letter from her vet saying that the animal was a domestic short haired neutered feline. Strangely the court ruled. Sal must actually make an appearance. If the matter is not resolved he will have to report to suffolk superior crown court in boston on march twenty third and jury of his peers tabbies. Right his saying god that god damned jury duty once Thankfully i was tossed off. And i want no part in that system. I wish they've just let a computer or chicken or something. figure out. someone's guilt or innocence. I i don't want the why should well weird way. You're you're you. Punish people who decide what punishment should be meted out because you've ruined their lives for last month all the people on the jury that just shows that your life is not in a bad way at all. Because i'm the kind of person who i was working a job and got called to jury duty and i was like yes i work day and all the salting saltines i can eat some tunes i can eat and i'll i'll talk to some strangers. Well no i mean all i did was sit there with my laptop blogging jury duty day one and i never even got called onto a case. I just got to get out of work furniture. Lille i had the worst The worst jury duty timing ever. Which is i think the first year we did the radio kayla's sex or maybe the second year. Our christmas vacation started in our last day of work was like you know friday the seventeen or something before we came back you know after the first and my jury duty was the following monday so literally. The first day of my christmas vacation was the first day i had to report down to Van is which is a punishment enough. All right so we do a little Made up movie Allison you know this works. It's been explained to me all right. The following is a presentation of jeremiah. According to an ancient mayan prophecy in the year twenty eleven hero would rise to turn your movie. Titles into blockbusters that eero is adam corolla and that could be and this is made Movie let me float this one quickly before we get into the made up movies but before we get into the fake made up movies. Let me give you an actual made up. A real made up movie that i was thinking about. When it's tonto on bill simmons podcast last week How about this. The year is twenty twenty one. I like it already ten years from now we have a By the way black female jewish president who's confined to a wheelchair now and Here's the deal. Oh by the way. We're going to give Motorhead tickets away to One of the college no moving. Here's the movie We're we're we're getting progressive enough now. We're going to take all the guys. Combatants that are in guantanamo bay. And we're going to try them on the mainland and this is something we've been talking about anyway. Obama was talking about it and it's got a little air actually almost all kinds of essential as wherever it is kinda and so we take these. You know the the the scariest guys or oh by the way since. It's in the future. Since in the future. We can show the second attack that took place in two thousand seventeen where we showed the 'plain bridge being destroyed and the eiffel tower being destroyed. Actually probably a good thing and The statue of liberty. Mount rushmore plane..

We are the kind of thing but Trying to turn a thin the populist down a little bit we you know we. He said You know of a sect amies like twelve hundred bucks. Fourteen hundred bucks and i said we should be given these things out and we should be given out for free and as a matter of fact then said you know how they'll do that thing in south central every once in a while ago man. You got a handgun. Turn it in. We'll give you a free toy or we'll give you two hundred dollars and the whole community. Everyone just piles in and turns in their handguns and they walk away with train sets or the two hundred bucks. Why not do that with vasectomy. Why not just say the guy an. So rich banks came up with this nope and wars that killed at brick good screwed doing still black rapid dry coming on the white stain. No more fact of grain or mosquito bet coming on the drops on her chest like paratroopers instead just finishing up her simple do with dick then leaves man pace downturn tips coming on the tip coming on the tips coming on the tits coming down here. I went back today and i read the transcript of the interview because i knew i was going to be here. Wow that's dedication right jessica. Golden didn't do that bitch. Tina grad into that did she well. She can't sit down. Because i sit up because this is where but yes. We'll give them a free pass but so anyway in the interview. Many years ago after the forgettable hand job Mum i was asking you sort of shenanigans. It happened backstage at the show. Ninety eight yeah. I was like four years old. And and you're like they don't even let me backstage. I can tell you about what happened front stage so my point is you are bitching about mtv. Then well we would have difficulty getting tickets to the show even though we were very successful and on their network right but mtv's sort of works that way comedy central's a lot that way as well. It's kind of weird. Do they claim that like. Oh we don't know what happened. We lost them or do they. Are they straightforward about the fact that they are not going to let you into their things. There's two approaches that entities networks radio stations cable outlets have their sort of two postures. There's a oh my god thank you for helping us be successful. And there's a without us. You wouldn't be on tv mtv and k rock for many years out here in los angeles. They had much the same posture. Which is we make you into a celebrity. You're not a celebrity. That comes onto our network. We make you a celebrity carson daley or whoever else we're dealing with and if we want to pull the plug we'll pull the plug and you can go back to selling vw's at mckenna. They w irvine. I feel like that's just a show biz posture so frequently because so many people want to be involved in show business and that people are willing to work for free that it's so easy for them to just take that attitude. Yeah i mean they're doing everyone a favor there and they are except for somewhere around season three when you have a very successful show on their network. They should change their posture. A little bit right. I hope they're listening now. And i hope they felt bad. I'm sure they don't and now. I'm sure they're not but Anyway blow me. Mtv and comedy central has got a lot of that rolling in as well kind of weird but Said but true. That's a cable. I just. I've never really encountered anyone in a position of power and i sound really better and i feel that's your thing being better. Well positive way. I've never really encountered anyone in a position of power in show business who didn't abuse it or act as if they were doing you a favor. I really like. My ass has not been sufficiently kissed. i mean i'm probably not the ass kissy level yet. I hope to get there one day the next day. Yeah why not start today. Yeah brian do. You heard me all right here. We go start kissing ass. Let's go all right so Yeah ask thank you coming. Thank you and of course if i were. I like I like your hair. Oh this hair hanging off my head. It looks very nice on you and allison by the way. Rosen has a few as long as we're kissing ass these. She has herself a little show called that. Alison rosen is your best friend best friend. Yeah it's on you stream. Yes and Interactive and you can find her. At alison rosen dot com and also an. Oh eight one. New york's funniest reporter award and That ain't ill then you know that's not Illinois and that's not Iowa that's that's that's the home of comedy right homa funny reporters. Yes when you think new york you think hilarious weather people. That's pretty good. But i wanted two thousand eight and now we're in two thousand ten and i'm still talking about it and i feel like i need to just sort of keep adding more years on it because if it's two thousand fourteen i wanted in two thousand twelve with the i bring up Being all central valley high school football about four or five times an hour. Maybe you want to change it to like you are all. That was the one thousand nine hundred eighty s sports thing was like a couple of years ago. That was eighty one. He said. believe me you got no prowling. Take it away from you. Know our remapping. That i do i do you have to deduct the eight hours. I sleep a night. And then we've that into the equation for our average twenty four hour arun slept last. You could mention it more. You know what my wife is suggested that. Maybe she was being facetious. I gotta i gotta think about that all right. Should we do a little news i can. I can bitch a little bit. My god i had to do I got this book. That's out so i had to do the radio. Junket thing and I did the You know get up at six. Am and do the radio junkie thing in the podcast last night so i went to bed a little bit late and my daughter woke up about five five fifteen throwing up all over self evidently had too much drink last night and i i. You know the thing that the only thing worse than having that early wake-up thing is when somehow you get woken up now you woken up five minutes before the early. Wake up thing. It's not great but it's it's five minutes and if we get woken up three hours before they wake up thing all right. Don't go back to bed but if you get woken up somewhere in the forty five minute to our range before you have the early wake-up you're screwed. That's when you do your best sleep..

You must've looked at the paper before the show anyway very easily playing the game. You go eighty-five-year-old black blues musician or blowhard running for local political office. This is easy. I would always go with the eighty-five-year-old midget musician. I cannot stand anyone running for any office. Because i think they're seriously out of their minds. People like you and me all of us here are supposed to be the crazy people in the world and showbusiness greater people. I don't think so. I think anyone who wakes up in the morning looks in the mirror and says maybe i'll lead really think about politicians. I mean the guy running for district. Select the guy running for vice. President is a horrible individual. How about guys running a constituency of basically his call the sack. Yeah you may be right on this one. You may be right. You're all can. I say rules are rules. "Panther comes out. Please please pants sixty percent of the time. I saw that from real bits of all right. Well you're right. It's a risky risky comedy. I mean there is. There's know cartoons in that. There's there's everything kitchen sink. As i've said from a guys made a couple. It's this fear of you. Just gonna look at it and go. I guess we were wrong about the ingredients or i can't argue with ingredients but this is not a great aunt. Yeah and there's always that that risk and and so when you shoot shoot like fat lot. Lot of improv. Lots of fun. So there's the blueprint which is the script and you gotta make sure that's good and i'll get to takes of the script right because we've worked really hard on it and the actors study their lines but then we go off. So i'll i'll find like a run that maybe we when me and my writing partner brendan. O'brien were writing it. We can't put this in the movie But on the day have them do it because who knows is a house. I've never worked with will ferrell the nicest human being alive. He's so sweet and like you turn on the u turn on cameras and he turns into like somebody else. It's awesome. Yeah he's so gifted and it's nice when the gifted guys can just be nice. You can just enjoy your success or don't have to have the really good like why why he's so mean like it's not say nobody says that about will but also weird because it's the calm it's comedy. Yeah you know why. I don't know i don't know maybe it's a jim carey or eddie murphy. Or something like why. Why must we deal with this comedy. Just make people laugh. It's just the greatest gift of all. Collect your millions of dollars and then go home near palace. It's not sitting a great comedic environment when somebody's deriving alex. Exactly i mean. I definitely the set. There's no jerks that's that's very carefully orchestrated. Just don't want anybody who's who's throwing fed will and amy and jason soukous. They're so cool that everybody else you know wants to hang out and wants to have a good time i think for will. It comes from a place of joy rather than pain you know for certain. Comedians we forgot about Mariah carey on the news. So did we. That was A little a little a little diva into the stay calm. Yeah what was can you. Shed live not not to throw. Can i let me let me andrew. Let me say yes sir. i don't. i'm not one of these people that likes to suck stuff out of people and get them into trouble. But i have had this policy. And i've told people thank i've told this because their wives get pissed he's got a mouth full of them in you. I stole people this all the time. You can simply say what happened. And then they can decide who the pitches or who the dick is. You know. I've had my problems with kevin smith but all ever done is explain. Exactly what kevin smith did to me and then they can go. Why are you being a douche. Talking smack about comes with. I'm not talking smack about. I'm explaining to you exactly what he did to me. And then user throbs conclusion that he's a huge. But what would we be doing if we didn't explain what happened. And so now you have artistic freedom and you can explain what happened mariah carey. She gave me the business. That's all i can say. Gave me the business. She went twenty business Showed up a little late. It was tough. It was heard well talking about it for a first time. Director make requests and then get them made fun of in front of whole crew. Wow for some friendly hazing as be fair. No rain news. As like mariah carey said that we've all marvel their specials and our uso shows with all the comedy bits bits all that spring to mind. Yeah hump. i'm proud of myself though. I you know i. I've worked at a mental health. A really institute. Yeah yeah between high school and college. So i got a thick skin. I've said schizophrenics have said some really mean stuff to me. Well the thing that's difficult is when people say things to you of any kind in in private you can have a choice. Yeah of how how you respond and usually for me. It's the path of least resistance. Yeah so if you said to me. h-have You made Gino greece minnelli's joke and and it was just me and him and billy bush. I would pretend to laugh and then leave the trailer but if you said it i wouldn't think it was funny. I would just go let that guy. I think what he's thinking. I don't want don't need to confront him and the trailer. But if you had a whole group of people around. I would have to go. That's not funny. You should say that. And whatever. Because now i have a group of people i mean. I mean this joke. Why don't we just plug for more and get the whole week off from this day. Four p. known as gary bit. Gary greece manelli. Joe so i did. The opposite of everyone is watching you. And she's doing it on set. What do you do. I go all right. That's all we're doing. Just ignore it. I did not. I did not take it head on I just ignored it. I had a plan. And i needed to get certain shot and need to get a certain way and i just pretended i didn't hear and she's tough. I am adam. Hold this stand up. Nails all the stock for one seconds. Gary i literally can off air question for no way around this but they do not have half engine stock you would have to order. It would not come until the sixth however they have three eight and the gentleman believes it would work. Tell them to get threats. Got thank you. You're saying we buying we. Why don't we just plug for more and get the whole week. The first time he said all right do we have a. We have a clip of the grease man. Do we do we do. Not we gotta read here. Why don't we just talk for the whole week. I'd want someone else. I want something. I'll look class. i don't need. Yeah that's right. I don't think anybody. I'll give me any money. Look.
