"Announcement at the afternoon briefing, 30 Year Old man with no travel history started developing coded related symptoms on the 27th Hey was tested yesterday on the 29th around 10 A.m.. The results came back in covert positive around 5 P.m.. This way. The first case of the strain in the U. S, was discovered in the UK and was reported yesterday in Colorado and National Guardsmen working at an assisted living facility. While the mutated virus is suspected of being more contagious, it's not believed to be more deadly, and experts believe the vaccine will work. There are questions about the strain of the virus. Dr. Christian Anderson is with scripts research and says some of those questions can't yet be answered. Final question is that often is Ask could this effective vaccines and pre existing immunity for people that have recovered from infection? Hopeful what they want, But I will say that we just don't have the data yet. So this is unfortunately one of these times where we need to say that we just don't know and Corona virus. Vaccines from Fizer and Moderna are already being distributed across the U. S and other countries, But more vaccines are in the pipeline, the first to appear Will likely be the Oxford University AstraZeneca vaccine, which has been approved in the U K this week because it doesn't need to be stored in freezing temperatures. That vaccine may be crucial for inoculating the less developed countries and a vaccine from Maryland based company Novavax is in the final stage of clinical trials. Johnson and Johnson's working on a vaccine that can be delivered in a single dose instead of to San Diego's mayor says he is tired of those who have a blatant disregard and defy the covert 19 guidelines. And now he's doing something about it as we head towards the New Year, Mayor Todd Glory of signing an executive order Covert 19 is surging throughout our state, our region and our city mayor working with police, the city attorney, he says. They will enforce you could be fined up to $1000. Just for violating state or local public health orders. This executive order is not designed to further punish those who have consistently done the right thing. This executive order is to hold accountable those who are responsible for prolonging this pandemic with their selfishness, parking enforcement also in effect, so people don't gather at a certain destination. Phil Farrar, KOGO news. Have introduced him today, releasing the state safe schools plan for all, and he plans to get kids back into the classroom early next year, and he's calling for phased in person learning, so the idea is to begin to cake to six with special head and populations that have been disappointingly impacted by this pandemic. We also want to get everybody moving. Similar direction to be back on track across the spectrum. The plan calls for getting all students into school. By early spring. It implements intensive covert testing, contact tracing and the use of PPE by everyone on campus, he says. Distance learning will still be an option in San Diego, was used as an example of schools that are operating some in person learning with no spread of co vint. Getting more people to be a part of the solution and not the blame. That's county Supervisor Jim Desmond Suggestion As the state extended the stay at home order has been tells KOGO news. We need to follow the protocols. But there is no data that complete shutdowns of businesses help slow the spread of coronavirus, he says. Cases surge during the three week lockdown really, the only way out of this is the back. And if the vaccine keeps coming enough, quickly enough. I think that's what's going to happen because it seems that this virus doesn't care if your businesses are open or not, it's spreading. And, quite frankly, actually, people are in better behavior. When they're outside does been saying they're being able to more freely go in public makes it less likely people gather at home and not be safe. Some experts believe the recent surge is duty, ignoring the shutdown orders and record high travel during the pandemic. The stay at home order is extended until further notice. "Sixty talk and breaking news coming up today on the Brentwood herbal show. We'll get you all delays from the big news at breaks overnight. We're gonna talk with Kyle four twenty about a very worthy project. Stick around for that. The show AM seven sixty talking breaking bread. We got cow crafted with his right now. Sports stretcher, CBS say what's up? Oh. I'm doing very good. I'm sitting you chair, by the way. Thank you. The weather. Get back in the in the squeaky. Wobbly chair come on. Now, I feel so I don't feel so smart and important. I feel not true. That's what it makes you feel. Is there any sporting event that the week prior more people ask you dumb questions about than the Super Bowl, of course, dot no, no all the talk is about the Super Bowl. It's all about the Super Bowl prior to March madness. Do people ask you equally dumb questions or is it really just the bowl? It's the biggest one. No, no, certainly, you know, March madness people come with their brackets. I remember when the legends Larry Himmel used to come to me with this bracket. Legends and say help me out. Kyle helped me out I want to win this year. Of course. There was no gambling involved. My dad never never put any money down on. What happened to you coming up four years ago? Well, I think everyone probably in your audience knows one level or another but four years ago, February tenth I was shot six times pulling out of my driveway. When I was on my way to work what kind of bullets there was nine millimeter twenty twenty bullets were sprayed through my car. The windows and six of the bullets went through me two of them went right through the center of my chest guns or do you reload? No, no to he reloaded. It was it was twenty bullets. He re- reloaded, and then emptied it again, the second time, and then finally, thankfully left and left me there to die. But like I said six of the bullets went through me two of them with through my chest. When through my by one through my my leg. My quadricep went through my back the bullets that went through my chest went through my lung in my liver. So. My lung head was destroyed, and I was basically bleeding to death and gasping for air. And it was I was very very close to death. Did you feel anything any pain? Oh, yeah. Hurts a lot. Yeah. Yeah. You look down the horror. Obviously, I was alert people. Ask me very common question. Were you alert you still awake where your unconscious? No, no. I was I was alert. I push myself out of my car was on the ground and was in a quiet cul de sac, three o'clock in the afternoon. I looked around. And there was there was nobody home in the cul de sac show. I knew I had to get to a place where hopefully someone could see me my phone, which I pulled out of my pocket had been destroyed by a bullet as well, thankfully, because that bullet was stopped by the by the the battery in the camera phone, and if it had gone through me that would have been the fatal blow my phone save save my wife, literally where was your phone and your box in my back pocket. Just literally saved my butt. And my wife, you know. But why do you think that one would have killed just when you think about it? It was would have gone straight. I mean rights with my midsection, and there's just so much there that could be damaged. I mean like just would have done a lot of damage. So when I when I was there and and realized. Where I had to be. I just crawled from from my driveway crawled out to an intersection where where I hope to there would be more activity, and thankfully, there was a a car came up the street and saw me and was able to call nine one one and get an ambulance. They're crazy. So it's interesting when I ask did it hurt. It's funny. How I and other people. Could think it didn't hurt and you were like in a daze and unaware like as soon as a bullet hits you you kind of like a adrenaline and be you kind of pass out put the exact opposite was the case super painful and very alert. You've you feel I didn't I wasn't aware of the extent of all the bullets that it hit me to be honest. But I was very aware of the ones that went through my chest again because one went through my liver in through my lung. And so therefore, I was gasping for air literally gasping in when I tried to to yell out to the person who had come up the street, which by the way, I I know a lot of people know the story, but it was a off duty police officer Scot Bartolomeo with these San Diego police department. He is a friend of mine we have seen each other at the gym earlier that morning he left to go pick up his son. I went home to get ready for work. And when I was when I was shot, he just happened to be pulling into his driveway, many, many blocks away, but being the police officer that he is he recognized the nine millimeter shots ring. He needed came look driving through the neighborhood looking for someone and thankfully by the time. He got there. I had crawled out into an intersection to where he basically ran right into me. So when I saw him fee, basically fell out of his car in a prone position with a handgun drawn. And he saw me and I saw him we locked eyes from probably fifty sixty feet away. And I tried to yell out Scott helped me, but it just came out, you know, very horse, and I couldn't breathe I couldn't talk couldn't breathe. So my chest was I was in massive pain in my chest and bleeding from the chest. And he he compressed my wounds with his hand until the until the ambulance arrived. Does amazing that he heard I wonder how loud it was to him. Because I think we've all been in situations where we have a little voice inside of. It's it's like I should check that out or I should. Yeah. Even like silly things. Like did. I turn the, you know. The other off. There's like literally we don't turn around because we're like sure you just think oh someone's lawn mower just backfired in the neighborhood. And that's why I say to a lot of people I had the worst day of my life on February tenth and yet at the same time. I had the best day of my life. And I know that sounds crazy. But I- horrible thing happened to me. And yet so many other people did things that I call him miraculous. And I call these people heroes they are all of them and it begins with Scott because not only was he close enough to hear the shots. But being that he was trained, you know, he's ex military police officer. He knew exactly what those shots were. He knew the caliber of the bullet what he heard the shots. So he knew immediately to come looking for me. Whereas like, you just said other people may have been like a what was that? Oh, that was a weird noise. Must someone lead up some fire crackers in the neighborhood. But he didn't he came looking for me. And if he had paused even five minutes, I'd be dead. Yeah. Yeah. That's a good lesson for all of us there too. So what are we doing to help these heroes out? Well. The first couple of years on the anniversary. It's been very personal for me. And I've reflected on what happened to me. And I've thought about the people that say my life, I've even gotten in my car and driven the root of the ambulance to scripts Memorial Hospital on my way of thought about those people in the ambulance. And when I got there, I celebrated with the doctors, and nurses, and we hug, and we cry and we talk about what happened and I thank them for what they did. And this year, I decided it's time to make this thing public. It's time to turn this into a celebration of all these heroes. The doctors the, nurses, the first responders fire police people that save not only my life on that day for years ago. But people that save lives every single day and very rarely get recognized for what they do. So in honor of them, I'm hosting my very first celebration of here's blood drive. It's Dave and Buster's in mission valley on Valentine's Day, and I've invited everybody all these first responders and doctors and nurses. They'll all be there. So we'll all those sports teams. I've invited the seals in the soccer's of invited the Padres I've invited you name it everybody in this town, the the brand new fleet. It will be there with their players. Landon. Donovan is going to be there of soccer's. They're gonna be giving out tickets and shaking people's hands and thanking all of these amazing people for what they do every day. But also we're going to give blood on this day. And and we're going to save more lives. We're going to save as many lives as we can in honor of these heroes. Let's give them the tools, they need in the form of blood in order to do what they do every day in their honor. And we are at such a crisis right now, the American Red Cross issued an emergency. We are down to a three day supply of blood, which is scary. It's we're just so low we need blood San Diego, and and Mike, I know this from listening to your show, and I know the kind of audience you have, and I know the way people respond to you. And I know how they respond to need in San Diego. I know how they rally, and I know that San Diego's gonna come out in full force for this. And I really hope to see everyone there to register sign up. So you can reserve a time. So it'll it'll shorten your wait time at Dave and Buster's. And by the way, you could say there was one. As you want come on down. Hang out with us party. Celebrate all my friends from channel eight are going to be there. I'm inviting everybody police fire fire trucks going to be there..

"Doing being Santa. No they hired a professional Santa patchy has the the connect. He's got guy, of course. And they're gonna have Santa. And they wanted a time. They have a kid come up. What do you want for Christmas? Hopefully, it's the same thing. They said a couple of weeks ago, which is always a gamble. Right. Has it works out? Great. For. Different on what to do about. This thing. You said you wanted kid. What that anymore? No, I think given the president, and that's pretty cool. So able foundation being a part of them, Eric what's the website for the Larry Himmel foundation believe it's? On the board. Larry, Himmel dot org or something. Larry, Larry Himmel foundation dot org. Yeah. That's right. The other wife snuck away this past weekend. And they went up to two miles is mansion and wrapped a bunch of gifts for the pretty good. So kudos to miles for spearheading that last couple of years, pretty cool. So we're kicked off the show talking about. Yes. It's already over. I. I know. Okay. So there's gotta be a terminal velocity. But have you seen that? There's no host for the Oscars. The headline up here the list. Well, what are we what are we going to do? So I always frequently contemplate. This kind of ties into the story. We're talking about with showers. Back in nine thousand swimmer. So back in nineteen forties. The fastest freestyler 100-freestyle fifty seconds. He broke fifty seconds. Forty nine seconds per hundred four legs. How can you beat that impossible world record? You can't be fifty seconds. Now, they're going to thirty eight seconds is a crazy crazy fat. And we're like, oh, you can never go faster than that. Shakra faster and thirty eight seconds possible. But what is it going to be another fifty years? How fast you're going to be maybe set the more relevant is running right? No way. Can you beat a four minute mile? It's impossible. They literally thought you would die. They thought if you ran for four minute mile, you would die, and then someone did it and then a bunch of people didn't right away. It was like a fear level there that once they broke through like, oh, and now I don't even have the world record for a mile. I think my record for a mile in high school was about twelve and a half minutes. Well, is that the three mile? No, no, no, just four laps around the old football fields. Sure. At full speed full voles, the reaching maximum heart. You mean at the end of the year when you guys have like fun games, and like the three legged race you're talking about the one mile three like up next to your friend, and you tie you together. It was me and an all out mad. Dash just as bad as fast as I could move the wheelbarrow racing. Hold your legs. My legs. You're doing done better with the wheel. Three forty three right today would no way no way could someone beat three forty three. But you give another fifty years, and they'll crush through you have high school going three forty three which is weird to think about how the human body the so the human the human body would actually have to evolve. Yeah. It's a weird. To.

"Eight four two five three keyword, Holly. Don't miss it. It's spectacular. Steve. We'll talk to you next week about this as well. And and thanks Steve. This is what I was going to get. I forgot about the politics question. I was going to ask you about this. I was so excited about the carols. What do you make what's a word or a phrase or a thought did you your race in powei went? Well. You were retained as mayor. The city council went. Well, I think of alcohol and Bill wells same thing out in these county here, my I know, I know, but the reason I had to bring those up as you guys were like the only good races. I felt in San Diego. What did you make of not the national, but here locally because when we talked about it, it was depressing Wednesday morning following the election. Yeah. It was really stunning. And I'm I'm worried about the direction of the county in the direction of California. I think the direction politically going is unsustainable. And I think God for people like Bill wells, Jim Desmond who got elected county supervisor. And you know, we had a clean sweep for the folks that I was supporting on our cat. Our council. We've got to do a better job of getting our story out. What we stand for? You know, in a way. Well, actually, it may be the only council and the county this whole five conservative. Well, I'm worried about the other jurisdictions. Yeah. And that one, and I don't know I wasn't here last week. But I know Eric you guys talked briefly with Mike about this Dido race, which I think everybody by surprise with Sam Abed up there and the implications that has Unsan sandbag as well. Interesting. I mean that that council flipped now. There are some good people on that council. Don't get me wrong. Good people from both sides of the aisle. But I think philosophically we're going to see a change in. Yeah. Having just been elected the chair fantastic. I'm a little concerned about what we're going to be able to get done, and I'm reaching out to people on on both sides. And you know, it's all about listening and talking and figuring out how we can share priorities and move the region. Steve thanks for putting your mayor hat on there at the end. And we'll talk soon. Hey. Thanks mile. Awesome. Thanks, Steve Vaas right there. Okay. What we're gonna do. I've got how many tickets I've got a pair of passes right now to the twenty ninth annual carols by candlelight benefiting Rady children's hospital. You heard from Steve right there. You get ten dollar tickets. If you wanna go right now and call the box office twenty nine Daniel. They've got some awesome tickets as well. You can get closer hunter Hayes, Jamie O'Neal animals Steve singing their favorite hits hits. So you're gonna hear hunter Hayes sing hits. And he's got a bunch of them. And then you're also going to hear him sing Christmas some songs as well. Which is so cool, and like Steve is talking about it's like being in the living room and just hanging out with the guys it's not like this raucous concert. Where you're going crazy. It is it will put you in the Christmas spirit. It's so awesome. I feel so fortunate to do that last year it was EMC this year. I'm going to be the MC, and I'm going to tell this story Eric that in one thousand nine hundred ninety four. The chargers made the Super Bowl and they were playing in Miami who the San Diego Chargers in one thousand nine hundred eighty four when they were still here we're playing in Miami where the Super Bowl was. So my dad who if you guys don't know my dad was Larry Himmel, the reporter here for CBS eight my dad and his cameraman in-between the Super Bowl or in between the game and the Super Bowl is two weeks. There's a two week period. So they thought it would be fun. If my dad and his cameraman drove from San Diego to Miami and told stories along the way in these small towns, and so they drove through Texas, and they did some fun stories and they drove through here. And they did some fun stories was cool. Just the heartland of America. Well, they stopped in. I believe it was Mississippi. I believe it was Mississippi. And there was a little kid think it was like six years old. My dad talked to him, and he was the local musician in the town. And everybody knew that this guy was going to be something that guy was hunter Hayes. So we've got a video of hunter Hayes when he was like six years old. Playing the accordion. I think it was as we're going to talk about that. If the show is well, I've never met hundred Hays, but I'm very excited to tell them that story as well..

"Welcome to the Mark Larson show miles simple filling in for Mark. Larson's gonna be back on. Monday though just a one day absence we know where he is. That he gives us a good reason I think he's being waterboarded wow Wow that's intense? Go out and what are you. Gonna do what he gonna do I've got. To, make a shameless plug here, okay I'm going to do it but is really cool and. I'm actually super passionate about it. So My dad was. Larry, Himmel TV reporter here for thirty five years and he passed away from pancreatic cancer which. Dan Your dad passed away. From pancreatic cancer not too long goes well which this. Isn't the point of the story but pancreatic cancer absolutely sucks it's, the worst Aretha Franklin just died from, pancreatic cancer Now? When my dad passed away we he was, sixty eight years full life full of energy and. We thought we gotta do something to. Remember him to keep his, spirit going what can we do and a, lot of the folks around. Here a lot of the folks that work with him Said we, should come up with a charity and I said great I said you go start it and I said how do. You do that and so that was about three and a half years ago and we actually. About four years ago at this, point we we've, done that and in his memory and we've done some events and we go around helping individuals, and groups and people big and small helping, them out and in my. Dad's, motto was to make people feel better about the, place they call home we have. Essentially one big use big quotation marks but what signature. Event a year and it is this back to school haircut event which. Actually Eric came up with the concept, for Eric and I'll just, be honest fortunately I've never. Had to worry about paying for haircut it's just it's just been able I've been, able to been fortunate? Enough to do that Eric comes from a, little lesser circumstances is said it was really hard My mom always couldn't afford a haircut and I go, to school kids would make fun of me, or your hair is looking. Long, and things like that and I said wow I, had no idea that that was. Even thing but I do know San Diego's a super. Expensive place to live you know twenty twenty five dollars on a haircut Some some places more expensive Can can certainly add up especially if you have. A few kids as well So we started in tomorrow in fact will be our third annual back to, school haircut drive at. The California bar Barbara and beauty college on el-kahan boulevard really an, awesome event last year we had, three hundred kids come and get their haircut, I really highly encourage if you. You've, got kids if you wanna, bring it it's eighteen and under no. Kids again I know San Diego unified the reason we do it this Saturday, I know some schools have already. Started San, Diego unified starts this upcoming Monday so we. Tend to tied around then again it's right on. Alcohol and boulevard we're, doing, I fifty kids get a. Pair of Padre tickets we've got Disneyland tickets mission federal is our main sponsor. I hop comes provides, breakfast for all the, kids and, what else we have we have six flags all sorts of tickets zoo legal in all sorts, of things that were given out where we're. We're doing prizes throughout the day and it really. Makes for an awesome event, and I would love to see you guys out There again. Starts at ten AM tomorrow we've got we've got on Facebook Larry Himmel neighborhood. Foundation and again I, wouldn't just plug it, if it, wasn't super super passionate about it and it ends up being just an awesome event every year, seeing the kids smiles all sorts of things. Oh get free school supplies as well backpacks etc Hope to see. You, guys out there tomorrow starts at, ten, AM All. Right, let's get into it we were monitoring the hurricane in Hawaii again you, heard the news, at the top of the hour with John McCain speaking of cancer, very sad that he's just going to stop. Treatment very difficult decision but want to get into this story here it's funny because I've seen tweets and last week you saw a lot of the newspapers in the country band. Together to combat President Trump Saying the. Press is the enemy of the people you've heard that from the president right you've heard that at the campaign type rallies that he's given And the media last week the. Newspapers band together and. So. We are not the media or we are not the enemy we we, are not the enemy of the people in granted that's a blanket statement okay when, President Trump says the. The media is the enemy of the people he's. Doesn't mean, grow smart enough to. Know. Doesn't mean every radio station AM seven six every. Radio station it doesn't mean every, person? That writes a blog every journalist it's a blanket statement okay It's a generalization but I also don't. Think it's, that far from the. Truth When Trump talks about the. Media really he's talking. About cable news, networks right CNN MSNBC a few networks maybe NBC ABC whatever So the other day Newsday. That. The media just ate it all, up? When Cohen and Manafort all that stuff was happening CNN and MSNBC anchors and paid contributors use the word two hundred and twenty two times in eighteen hours They used a one word two hundred and twenty two. Times isn't there there's an interesting gosh I forget where I heard about it then maybe. Can help me there's that we only use humans not humans only use like five hundred words like, that that's like our average. That even though. There's like tons and tons and tons of words out there people's lexicon is very simple simple minded folks this word they used to hundred and twenty two times over an eighteen hour period So someone examined all CNN and MSNBC coverage between six AM and midnight, on August twenty second counting. Every time the. Use of the word and I'm gonna get to the word here in a second Or some is it Nancy Pelosi's favorite word it may be, the, word though word yes? Exactly analysts found one hundred and fourteen instances. Of the term on MSNBC one hundred and eight on CNN for a. Total of two hundred and twenty two times you say okay what is that work the. President of the United States of America.
