"We just knew that an element was going to come in. And they were going to be any. And they did they started out by being active at night and pinpoint accurate with mortar fire. They they gave the the the special Rangers that arrived in Mogadishu the buck lockdown down, drew. They they gave him a welcome their their second night in with a pinpoint mortar barrage right into their little birds hangar area. And if you go back through our podcasts, you'll hear George hand arrived in manga do like the the day after or the day of that that happened. So yeah, it's interesting how these stories intersect, and we didn't know till later that it was. Was bin Laden's guys. And then later on when I when I was in Khartoum he was their operating. And so and so is prime cohorts were involved in the Asian terrorist activities and lot of people around the world don't understand because it was never really highlighted. How critical those operations were to the worldwide threat huge. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, the the idea behind fine planes and the things came from brands use who was working on that plan in Manila when he got discovered and disappeared so much of what was happening in the Philippines, were at that time was the Saudis were financing a series of Madris's as I recall over there that they're using a finance terrorist activity, and you know, through through what you guys were doing in the agency and through a lot of hard work from the Filipinos a lot of that stuff has been neutralized. Absolutely. There were some when I was in the Philippines. We found out that Mbeli was the mastermind behind the failed. Singapore attack had actually been targeting Milan, Vesey that was his backup plan, and we caught that guy a famous bomber named father goes -i. And he was a prolific bomber. I mean, he was an expert is the guy who blew up the movie theater in Manila. He he he said five bombs in Manila one day, then call it the result, a bombings thirty December twenty two thousand and I actually have again, I was in Manila at the time doing a die proof with my brothers. And we had to divert around Manila because it was being blown up and. When he was caught he was able to actually Riggott cell phone and back then that was that was new technology. So very interesting guy. And he was he was getting prepared to do the Manila embassy when he was caught with a thousand pounds of cook commercial, great explosive in six pools dead cord, so there's all this. It's all kind of interwoven. I mean going back to do you wanna go back then to some Malia then and flush that out a little bit. Because I actually I wanted to ask you to now that it starting to jog my memory. There is a an agency team or maybe I'll let you elaborate if you can. But there's a team of Americans that went over a land mine back in I think ninety three before the Black Hawk Down incident. The battle of the Black Sea happened. Delta force a former delta. Individuals kill Larry Larry Friedman. Yeah. Interesting nickname. But. And Larry was are of a group of ground branch, special division personnel that were doing route Cobra Coniston's in advance of the military and..

"We've got temperature of thirty degrees. Yikes. Hi today, though. Good news, get up to the mid fifties. Coming up later in the hour. Kathleen damone Jay talking about holiday shopping, finding some great value out there. In the meantime, is the time of the week when we we'll be discussing some of the things from the courthouse. And from the jailhouse will have our guests coming up in just a moment on Memphis morning news is we are lining up to talk about just take a break away from politics and just some of the general discussion, and we will have a little discussion about what's happening with our usual seven fifteen topics and joining us this morning legal expert, Larry Friedman, checking in Larry, thank you so much for joining us here in Memphis. How are you? My pleasure to be here. Thank you. Well, we are Larry we've talked about over the last couple of days, Sarah, Huckabee Sanders and Bill shine sending out a letter to Jim Acosta, restoring his hard pass what what's the latest on Jim Acosta and the members of the press. How are they reacting to all this? Well, I think there's some mixed feelings about this. You know, it's a mixed bag from a legal standpoint. The there's never been any rules for the press corps. You know, there's been tradition. No rules. So the legal ruling is basically this when there's a an important first amendment rights implicated as there was with the cost of when they took away his press credentials. The court narrowly ruled that there has to be rules, and the journalist has to be has to have notice of what the rules are the reasons why his press credentials were taken away at an opportunity to appeal that ruling and there's precedent for that. And that was a very narrow ruling by the court. Journalists are concerned by the new rules promoted by the White House, and the proposals are huge journalists will now have the opportunity to ask one question and the follow up will be at the discretion of the president or the official taking questions as you can imagine what problems arise through that. When you're when you're asking a politician a question how good they are at dodging the the question and not giving answers. Yes. And what if one of them slips up and says, how are you, sir? I'm fine. There's your question next person. You never you never know. What that does is? It really puts the journalists in a position to gang up. On the president all of these journalists gentlest today are competitive all looking for an opportunity to to shy or get to the head of the pack. But these rules in my view. Pushtu journalists together they have so that they may line up and say let you ask one question. I'll ask the follow up. I'll ask the question after that. And I'll ask the question after that. So I I think it's a mistake for the president or the press or the communications a White House communications department to make rules like this. Because what they're forcing the journalists to do is to form a view that and gang up on the president. All right. So from the White House to get out in front of the grocery store. That's where I find my girl scout cookie. So a woman is accused of stealing a bunch of girl scouts cookies. Yeah. It's a crime. Yes. Yeah. Apparently, I guess this was in Ohio, Ohio. And and they're saying over a thousand dollars over fifteen hundred dollars. Sixteen hundred dollars violation that'd be eighth amendment. Dow shalt not steal ten stealing is stealing when when you still sixteen hundred dollars worth of girl scouts cookies. It's the same as stealing sixteen hundred dollar car, stealing sixteen hundred dollars in cash or TV or cell phones. It's a crime. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. One quick thing. Larry before we go bear. I guess is rounding up some cash. There's in trouble. Because it's not only this particular judgment Pandora's box. That has now been Oakland. All right. We got about a minute and a half left. What's what's the story on this? No, go ahead. Say we got about ninety seconds. What's the story? What's the story behind all this? Well, they're five thousand other pending cases now with now this judgment will open Pandora's box for every other person who's had been exposed to round up, which is the most popular agricultural chemical used worldwide who has who has. Been exposed to that. And who has had? Issue with cancer to file a lawsuit. So bears Monsanto bear trouble. Oh boy. Oh, boy because Monsanto merged with them recently. Right. So they're going to take on some of that liability or or or a good portion of that too. Right. Yeah. Bear bought Monsanto. Okay. Six billion dollars. Wow. And that's just the beginning. Wow. So bears on the hook down for two eighty nine. And that's just the beginning. Larry thank you for joining us sitting in today talking about these and have a happy thanksgiving. You too. All right. Thanks, Larry Friedman. Joining us on Memphis morning news. We'll have cuddling damange may coming up in just.
