And your forecast now from storm team four's Chad Merrill. Lots of cloud cover here this morning. Watch out for some light rain developing, the ring will not be heavy, but just enough to make the roads a little slippery for the morning commute, our temperatures will be steady in the upper 40s that rain will end before the evening commute even gets underway, temperatures upper 40s this afternoon and guess what? We only drop a few degrees into the lower 40s overnight, some patchy fog west of Washington, mostly cloudy, a little gusty on Wednesday, but no supply of cold air temperatures upper 50s, steady rain on Thursday, mid 50s, Friday, early sunshine, little cloudy and breezy. "At WTO dot com search free lunch. Four 28 traffic and weather on the 8s back over to around Fox and the traffic center. And then Virginia brake lights still the highlight on the 14th street bridge. You do have the 14th street exit shut down on the load balance side, and as a result, folks are still trying to get through there and then realizing that they're going to have to take an alternate and it's just extremely slow through that area. You've also got some slowing on the case bridge and because you can not get off on the 12th street expressway, so folks needing to find an alternate there. We did have an earlier report of a vehicle fire that's in the area of north capitol street at New York avenue, not seeing any major concerns through that spot, but something to watch for is you're making your way through, and on the capitol beltway seeing some heavy volume for folks that appear to be leaving the commander's game. You're seeing delays Largo through Glenn Arden, both on the inner and outer loops. So you're going to want to watch for that also. Looks like some delays on the inner loop as well. Once you get past Largo through forestville and as you make your way down in the area of temple hills, taking a look at two 95 in the district, you've got some delays in both directions on the southbound side, you delay starts actually before you get to the D.C. line so you're going to be slow through nanny Helen burrows through benning road. It'll pick up after he capital on the northbound side, some delays that pick up just after Pennsylvania and the area of east capital as well. 66, no reported concerns, 95 on the Virginia side. You've got some delays once you get into newington, that'll take you through Norton across the aka Kwan real heavy through Dale City. It'll pick up just before dumfries and then you've got to monitor delays through triangle on the northbound side coming from Fredericksburg, themes, and fairly good shape at this point. So modern delays through del city and woodbridge, but other than that, okay, heading north. On the Baltimore Washington park, while you do have some delays on the southbound side, that's going to start just before one 75, and it'll pick up once you get past actually just before one 98 outside of that on the northbound side, things are in pretty good stead there. "Now in Tyson's 90 in northwest Washington. At one 41, there are few details still available after FBI agents search former president Trump's estate in Florida as part of an unrelated federal probe into whether he took classified records when he left The White House. A former Justice Department official telling Politico, the evidence was likely so pulverizing, it would eviscerate any notion that the search warrant was politically motivated. Politico senior legal affairs reporter Josh gerstein joined us to talk about what exactly could have led to the warrant being issued. There would have to be evidence that there was some kind of a criminal violation. There's two different categories here that lawyers involved in this case have indicated to us are at issue. One is classified information. Somebody who either intentionally takes classified information out of the place where it's supposed to be kept or someone who willfully refuses to give it back when a government official comes asking for it. That is a felony. It's something that Congress actually has increased the penalties for just a few years ago following the Clinton email saga. So that's one violation. And then there's a more general violation of taking government records without permission if you go into say a court clerk's office and stuff, the official files in your bag and walk out. There's a statute that covers that kind of information, even if it's not classified, but most of the experts we've spoken to have said they think the reason that there must have been a very high bar of evidence here is because it does involve a former president and this kind of a search at a former president's home is unprecedented. Now we know that Trump has been in discussions for months about these boxes of documents that were taken when he left The White House. Is it possible that any of these materials that were marked as classified were declassified before his term in office ended? Yeah, it is possible. And that's what makes this a little bit different than some other cases where you have classified information that gets out. Until January 20th until president Trump became former president Trump, he had the complete power to declassify this information. Some people have said that you need to follow a certain process. I don't think that's right. I think as long as it was clear what he was doing, either he wrote it down or he said it in front of many witnesses and what documents he was talking about. I think he has a very good argument that this information was declassified. I think the issue is, we don't really know the scope of all the classified information that may have been in these boxes. And if it was a matter of just one or two letters, that would be one thing, but if you've got reportedly 15 boxes of information that contain different sort of classified details in them, it becomes hard to see how Trump could have just declared all of it to be declassified, although at least one of his former aides is suggesting that that's what he did. Politico, senior legal affairs reporter Josh gerstein. One 44. Hi, I'm rich Mackenzie, owner of metropolitan bath and tile with a little straight talk about growing old. As we age, what we worry about most is falling. In the number one place where falls occur is in the bathroom. Stepping in and out of the tub or shower or wet feet on a slippery floor. It is disgusting. But it's going to potentially be a crime now in the state of California, and if it does become a crime stealth thing. Stealth thing is what it's called California would be the first state to make stealth thing a crime. Now the practice of stealth thing. Uh huh. This is an interesting one to go over. I've never heard of this before. So when You perform a sexual activity. And when you're involved in sexual activity, use protection. A lot of people use protection of the menu protection. Well, stealth thing is where you remove that protection. Without verbal consent during the intercourse, so the intercourse starts protections their mid intercourse. It's removed without The verbal consent of your partner. That is, what stealth thing is. Now. Legislators sent the bill to the desk of governor Gavin Newsom, where have signed into law that would add stealth into California's definition of sexual battery and one signed into law. The victims could then sue the perpetrator for damages, including punitive damages. Now, I don't know. Unless the woman got pregnant. I don't know how you could actually proven even if they did get pregnant. You know, I don't know how you could actually prove that the person took the protection off in the middle of the intercourse. And then you know, I wonder why the guy would do that, anyway. It's a dangerous subject that I'm just going to stay away from that answer, man. I mean, that's just seems crazy. It's not. It's not right. It's horrible because we're talking about something you're doing without the consent in intercourse with your partner, and that's not right. It's never okay. It would be interesting to make that a crime and I'd be interested to have feelings. Agar legal analyst line just to see how you could actually even prove that in a court of law. Oh, yeah, that would be almost impossible. It really would be the least it would be. If I was an attorney. I'd be It would be easy to get that you know that person off your client. Yeah, definitely. So we got a lot coming up in the seven o'clock hour. Chris Shankman will join us in just a few minutes for his quick takes, plus plenty of more on the way we'll catch up with the Tampa Bay business. Wet Notes - 7-4-21

"This is wet notes here on scuba shock radio for sunday july fourth two thousand and twenty one first up today i wanna talk about re fest two thousand and twenty one this october. The reef environmental educational foundation will again be holding refenced from thursday october fourteenth to sunday october. Seventeenth in key largo. That's four days of some great activity. The festivities kickoff on thursday. And one o'clock. You can then get a couple of days of diving in on friday and saturday morning with a two tank dive from either key divers amaury dive resort or essence. Those charters run about ninety dollars and they go out at eight am. If you wanna do a kayak tour you could also do that. For sixty dollars with florida bay outfitters. There are seven afternoon workshops and seminars and activities at john pennekamp park the coral reef restoration foundation. The history of diving museum and the florida keys. Wild bird sanctuary. Wow this sounds like a great event. Unfortunately i won't be able to make it down due to a family obligation but this sounds really good. Be sure to check out repressed. That's reef fest. Two thousand twenty one on their website. Well who watches the tv. Show curse of oak island. I think matt has watched every episode. And i think they're still searching for treasure but i came across an interesting article about one of the guys on the show. I guess tony sampson had a strange situation happen about a year ago tony's frequently on the show and he runs a tour company called salty door. Salty dog tours. Well he was taking some tourists out when one of his guests hat blew off so quickly turned the boat around to fetch the hat. And that's when he spotted something else a voter in the water. Apparently the boater was on his maiden voyage with this new boat when it capsized and he couldn't get to his life jacket because it was tied to the boats seat ono so tony fortunately rescued the voter in what is called the oak island triangle triangle. I guess the boat subsequently washed up on oak island now at least those guys found something there about a year ago. Olympus announced that they were getting out of the digital imaging business and that they would not be making cameras any longer and that would have been a shame if these Tech this technology went by the wayside. I really liked my Olympus t g six. well don't worry. A new company named 'em digital solutions is producing the old olympics. Cameras binoculars audio gear. They took over in january. Two thousand twenty one. Their website is get olympus dot com. Now if you want to know more about the company checkout oem dash digital solutions dot com. This company is based out of tokyo. And it's led by sha guinea saga motto all digital solutions employees about two thousand people with evaluation of twenty seven billion yen or about three hundred and thirty three million. Us dollars the oem comes from the nineteen seventies oem solutions that they put in place to make cameras smaller more rugged and quieter. This is great news especially for us olympus fans. Here's some sobering news out of florida. The manatees are under stress as of june fourth. This year. Seven hundred and eighty two manatees have died in two thousand twenty one alone and that's a one hundred and fifty one percent increase from the three hundred and thirty one that died during the same period last year to put this in perspective. The record number of deaths for manatees in a year is eight hundred. Twenty one or eight hundred and twenty four and that was in two thousand eighteen. This increase is so dramatic that representative vern buchanan from florida wrote a letter to the us fish and wildlife services to change their status from threatened to endanger and that's the highest level of protection here in the us. The florida manatee used to be on the endangered list until two thousand and seventeen when their numbers rose. Above six thousand six hundred they now estimate a census of about seventy five hundred but as we can see that number is going in the wrong direction. Now what's the cause food availability. The seagrass is being killed off by oversaturation of nutrients and the manatees simply. Starve to death. Not sure how a change in status will solve the sad scenario but we need to start someplace. Well it's summer. And i know that a lot of people like to catch up on summer reading while they're on vacation we'll scuba diving. Magazine just published a list of books that you might consider in their armchair adventure section. A couple of book stood out. One of them was in oceans deep courage innovation and adventure beneath the waves. And that's written by bill steve. And it's a history of our underwater presence. He covers submarines saturation diving and recreational gear. Bill also goes into the impacts of aro vs versus in-person exploration. You can pick up this book in ocean deep for about fifteen dollars in paperback. Now the second book is exploration deep ocean the first descent to the bottom of all five of the world's oceans and it's written by josh young. The book covers the exploits of victor scovill and his team on their history-making mission. You can find this book in hardcover for a little over twenty one dollars time to kick back with some good summer reading and finally here on wet note if you're a collector of vintage gear or want to start mark your calendar for the vintage scandal auction on july seventeenth. The auction is run by the nation's attic and you can register at live. Auctioneers dot com now. The auction starts at ten. Am central standard time. You can go to the site now and take a peek at all the cool stuff you can also register embiid early. The first part of the auction folks who focuses on vintage scuba gear from the nineteen forties to the nineteen seventies things like regulators knives mask cetera. Then it switches to maritime artifacts and closes out with the really expensive stuff. Those classic military commercial hardhats. I missed the last one. Because i was out diving. But we'll definitely try to tune into this next one get set up early and register. It moves pretty quickly when when the auction goes off. And don't miss out on that special piece of scuba history. Well that's it for wet notes. For sunday fourth two thousand and

Your Next Dive - Key Largo

"Last year my goal was to do a segment of your next dive where i featured key largo dive mecca here in the united states. I wanted to time this segment for just after we returned from key. Largo in april of two thousand and twenty. Well we all know how that turned out. We did not get there and again in two thousand and twenty one. We were not able to plan out an excursion as we would have hoped to. Two thousand and twenty two however is on the horizon. But i didn't wanna wait any longer to talk about key largo so here we go with your next dive where we travel to key largo florida. I think i've mentioned it before here on the podcast that my first is after getting a certification where with it's a dive located at the marriott hotel on the overland highway in key largo and it was fantastic. How about your first real dive being on a real historic wreck the city of washington a ship that was in havana harbor when the us main exploded and sank now. There are many reasons to choose key largo as your dive destination. Especially if you live in the eastern part of the united states first off. It's easy to get to. You can either fly into fort lauderdale. Which is my preferred airport. As i find it logistically navigate or miami which is a little closer to key Key largo you just hop in your rental car. That is if you can find one these days and head on down now. Let's talk a little bit about the dive. Operators in key largo as you can imagine being to dive. Mecca that it is. There are quite a number of operators to choose from it's a dive at the marriott is no longer operating but i will talk about two of the operators. I'm familiar with. They are horizon divers and rainbow reef now right after only a couple of months. After i did that first trip to key largo i returned and at that time. I drove with horizon divers back. Then they were located in marina at mile marker one hundred of the overseas highway and that was right next to the courtyard by marriott. Which at the time was a radison. It was very convenient to roll out of bed. Get a quick bite to eat and stroll over to the dive. Shot horizon has moved however and they are now located on the overseas highway at mile marker. One oh six. That's the dive shop in a retail store. Their boats are located about a half a mile up the road next to a place called shipwrecks oceanside now rainbow reef has taken over the old horizon diver facility at the mile marker one hundred marina additionally they also bought out ocean divers on the other side of the marina and have quite a large operation. Now the last time we were in key largo. We stayed at the courtyard and dove with horizon. We were going to go back to key. Largo in two thousand twenty and planned to die with rainbow reef. We didn't make it down there now. If you're looking to do more technical diving then. I think horizon divers maybe a better choice for the shallow reefs that i like rainbow reef might be a good option as they have those big forty six foot newton dive boats now. I have to admit that. I've never done the deeper wrecks down there like spiegel grove. Where the dwayne bid. But i love the shallow wrecks like the city of washington. The hanan bell. Also known as mike's wreck and especially the ben would. They are teeming with fish life and are great places to do fish identification and surveys. You can also experience of great dives on elbow reef molasses reef and french reef another great shallow dive through the book spurring grove. Karl is christ of the abyss. Dry rocks you can grit some great photo opportunities there. The water temperatures in key largo range from the mid seventies in the winter months to the mid eighties in the peak of the summer. When i dove in april of two thousand and nineteen. I was pretty comfortable on the shallow reefs with my three millimeter wetsuit. Only wanna do to morning dives. You can free up your afternoons for some topside adventures. A trip to reef headquarters Is interesting or you can take a tour of the coral restoration foundation and just down. The road is the history of diving museum in l. morada. I was really looking forward to getting to the museum last year and hope that i can make it down there next april. Talk about the dining. While if you're staying at the courtyard on the marina you don't have to get in your car and drive someplace you can just scroll stroll over skippers doc right on the marina. They have some great conch chowder. There and if you want a burger or some pub food than walk a little bit further down to dr sharpies shark bite grill. You'll probably run into some of the dive staff there hanging out now. Another great place to eat is the pilot house and that's located right near the coral restoration foundation very close by and and if you're in the mood for pizza then upper crust pizza at mile marker one zero one point six. Just make sure it's not. Wednesday is their closed. We made that mistake. So as i wrap up this segment. If you've been diving in key largo. I hope that you will agree that it is really a cool place to dive. And if you've never been there. I would encourage you to consider putting a trip there on your counter. I regret having taken fourteen years between visits. I'm not gonna make that mistake again.

Oh, we have the drugs in the leg. The old drug in the leg routine. It was ugly. He was smuggling drugs in his prosthetic leg. Hey, had fentanyl and zannex hidden inside his artificial leg, And she's like that's the first place. They're gonna look when you go to jail, like, Hey, sir, please take off your cross thesis so we can look look inside it for drugs when they're doing the pat down and they get to the leg area. And he said no on they said, We need to warn you. You'll have more drug charges. If you do have drugs in your leg, and he was like, you know, my leg is drug free. Is he talking about? Flash Flood Warning Issued for Broward, Miami-Dade County After Eta's Landfall

"Very heavy rainfall. There's a flash flood warning now in effect meeting Flooding imminent or is occurring and that's for Broward County, northern Miami Dade County. That's until 11 this morning. One area of rainfall looks like it's lined up from about highly up toward a Cooper City into southern Broward County and extends out over and just east of Key Biscayne. There's another band now just west and getting at the homestead and getting into west Central Miami Dade County. It extends back into North Korea, Largo and it is raining Jimmy, probably at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour here, so more flooding possible Not likely, along with some strong, gusty winds of some of the winds make us 40 possibly the 50 MPH. I do feel that we should be out of the worst of the rain and thunderstorms. Sometime today, but still lingering showers and better storms tonight and tomorrow. Yeah.

Stacey Abrams Spearheads Campaign Against Voter Suppression

"It's morning edition from NPR news I'm David green and I may tell Martin after the chaos of the Iowa caucuses there is new scrutiny about how the US conducts selections when you partisan voting rights group is focusing on elections in swing states this year it's called fair fight and it's led by Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams Abrams got a lot of national attention in two thousand eighteen after she lost a close race for governor in an election that was clouded by allegations of voter suppression here's an here's Debbie Elliot a few thousand volunteers are spending a Saturday morning in a hotel conference room in Macon Georgia for a boot camp of sorts on voter suppression good morning in everybody Hillary Holly is organizing director for fair fight action the group that's waging a campaign against voter suppression in the twenty twenty election we are walking into year that's going to be exciting little bit stressful we're gonna be working a lot participants call themselves democracy warriors people like whole worker of lane Morgan Johnson make every single cam Johnson is motivated to be here in part because her sister was removed from George's voter rolls under a mass purge of people who have not voted since two thousand twelve or responded to mailed notices from election officials Johnson thinks it's part of a broader strategy to curtail voting rights reducing their opposition don't wanna lose power I mean we're seeing that nation why it's depressing and that's why I'm just trying to be active in a way that I can my parents worked for civil rights in and we're not for going backwards this training is part of an effort launched by Georgia Democrats Stacey Abrams an African American woman who broke new ground in our two thousand eighteen campaign for governor she energized new democratic voters and lost by less than fifty five thousand votes in a largely Republican state there was a record turnout for a mid term election but also hours long waits at some polls election server security breaches and allegations that strict adherence on signature matches dampens participation Abrams says the defeat galvanized her to launch fair fight in the wake of the election my mission was to figure out what works could I do even if I didn't have the title of governor what what can I do to enhance to protect our democracy because the voting rights is the the pinnacle power in our country verified is training grassroots advocates lobbying for new election laws and arguing in federal court the George's election system is unconstitutional Abrams says long lines precinct closures and purging voter rolls are all barriers that disproportionately impact minority voters most of us understand voter suppression as the nineteen sixties images of Billy clubs and hoses and dogs barking aggressive interference but in the twenty first century voter suppression looks like administrative errors it looks like user error it looks like mistakes but it is just is intentional and just as insidious George's current secretary of state Republican Brad wraps and Parker acknowledges there were some problems because of the high turnout in two thousand eighteen but rejects the notion that cleaning up voter rolls is an attempt to gain partisan advantage no what we're trying to do is make sure that the you know Lexus are clean fair and accurate this is something that has been going on in Georgia long before Republicans were in charge in Georgia and courts have upheld the state's authority to purge the voter last after fair fight suit but other election related lawsuits are pending attorney Jack Evans is chairman of the Georgia chapter of the Republican National lawyers association Georgia is ground zero for election law Evans says the focus is here because Georgia is becoming competitive the reality is you know George's changing and there's a lot of transplants coming in from the west coast and the northeast and there's also changing demographics so I think it is time for Republicans to grow the tent but I definitely think it's woke up a lot of Republicans in Georgia now Abrams is expanding fair fight to reach in hopes of putting other states in play she recently traveled to Florida for a town hall with college students to talk about ways they could protect their vote for verifying voter registration for learning how to ask for a provisional ballot if you're turned away at the polls political scientist Andrea Glaspie of Emory University says there are a lot of national groups doing voting rights work but fair fight stands out because it's been able to use the energy around Abrams electoral defeat to try to reap benefits for other Democrats in this election cycle her story was compelling she got a lot of
