Bill O'Brien: Head coach fired by Houston Texans
"Coach Bill O'Brien has gone from the Houston Texans and nobody can say they're surprised last January. He had his team up twenty four nothing over the chiefs in the playoffs then got outscored fifty one to seven. But as a coach O'Brien can at least say he won four division champions in six years. It's as a GM that he made. You scratch your head in one year he traded former number one picture Davey clowney to Seattle he traded two first round picks a second round pick for Laremy Tunsil and Kenny stills and the whopper of the mall. He traded the Andre Hopkins to Arizona for running back David Johnson as of now. Johnson is thirty seventh in the League in rushing and Hopkins leads the NFL in receiving. Yeah. That'll get you fired but not as fast as an oh four start despite having to Shawn Watson and Jj Watt on your team a heated argument with what may have been the last straw for O'Brien. Then again, have you ever stood next to Jj watt they can't say O'Brien doesn't have courage. He just doesn't have a job anymore.

"Okay. Here's how you got to flip the guys had one year a defensive end from wide receiver and he already put together production for you. Number two he's going to get better he's going to get more skilled with more times, his hands, GonNa get better. He's GONNA learn how to attack the edge a little bit better. At Greasy, edge I I didn't think he was sought after he was kind of finesse but I didn't think he was soft and there's a big difference I think he has some dog. Mentality inside him because I could see him take on double teams. He's just not a big burly guy and has got to learn to to bend better but I didn't think he was soft but I don't know. But this is all I got bucky. This is all I got Caleb Farley cornerback for for Virginia Tech I'm like man Kayla Farley gets lost in coverage from off coverage, but I like them from press, but he only pressed twenty-seven percent of the time according to pro football folks as alignment numbers. So I only press twenty seven. Twenty seven percent of the time I liked what I saw when he pressed, I love the the size I love the makeup speed but the tape was a little bit on even. In. The Saint and I'm GonNa tell you something that essentially the same guy that was beating upper. So He told me I needed to be careful about beating Farley because he only had two years at cornerback. He was a quarterback in high school. So there's kind of some of the inconsistency of an NFL guy saying I don't care you know You gotTA give this corner more time to learn a position. He's only had two years, but he didn't extend the same courtesy if you will to resolve. So it's it's tough, but it's tough to use this on these projecting two year guys who are changing positions. So so is the challenge, right? So first about the Russo thing. So think is a little concern only because like that's not. A typical transition that you see, you don't see guys that go from being wide receivers to pass rushers, and so we talk about his game being finessed but the thing that we're really reveal who he is, how does he handle the run game at him when they line up and put the tie in Adam and sometimes in the college tape to see them ladder, put a knit overtop and run. Right Adam, how's he going to do dillon with George? Qudos, how's he gonNA do with the Laremy Tunsil that are gonna be tried to to find it. I couldn't find in college right so so you won't see that also when you move get inside and you're moving them around to allow them to use his speed and quickness like this. Great. But as the scout you've got to. Figure out. Well, how much of that is transferable Kenny do that into big boy game Kenny, go down inside and do those same things. I just don't know because man when you get down there you dealing with the monsters like it. You don't like to put guys down to if they don't like to Kinda, get into Briar Patch when it comes to those guys with Caleb Farley. You never scout the helmet, but here's what I will tell you about. Virginia Tech and Virginia corners. Virginia. Tech is a under bud foster heavy blitz system. The ball has to come out typically Virginia Tech their corners do not have to cover for a long time. They've had a lot of corners that have come out of there..

"So you know drafting players high and getting good draft picks is great. But if you dump all your your big name guys, you just have to replace them and I feel like you gotTa Try and Win Games they did a good job at the end of the season beating the Patriots like. They did but you gotta play the Games that you're in the you have in front of you and I believe that winning breeds winning, and if you can just win a couple of those games, you know even if you don't get the highest draft pick, you can sign a trustee veteran or you can find somebody in the later rounds and the late around and still come up with a key player for your team. So I with one hundred percent I think tanking is not the way to go. I love the I love the. Miami Dolphins Angle that we're all collectively taken guys. Interesting. So I've heard through. The Grapevine. Just different rumors apparently I mean Ryan for it Austin young coach as we all know he was brought in there with a mandate of sorts saying we're, GONNA panic. We're GONNA take for two of what they want it. They want they want budge board games with its Fitzpatrick. and. Now, he's considered like one of the best young coaches you kinda put his foot down and said, we're not thinking so like as progressed the dolphins turned it on and I agree with you guys it's never it's never beneficial thing I mean the coaches are trying to stay employed. They don't to go to enforce in. in but the bigger thing the players in the game. Players when the Games on Sundays and Mondays and Thursdays. GIVES, it instills in them confidence if they start winning games that Patriots Win Nate, that's massive for the next five years. That Locker Room in Miami they know they can be dealt check. So I mean, yeah I never want WanNa. Support Tanking. That's all. I'm going with what you were saying need about trading off to play these players they did add maybe those players were of the problem maybe they had to get out of that losing atmosphere and Goto place like Texas and get around a bunch of guys there used to winning Jj Watch watch they would start winning again. Sometimes these guys get into as you say that you know the the the culture of losing and it affects them and you can't bring them back. So you have to get rid of them. So maybe that's part of the reason you know Florez, those guys saw it is is the fact that You know tunstall and you know was just never going to turn it around there because he had losses that because of all the losing I, don't know if that's true or not but I don't know what you think. No I agree I mean I think that there was they didn't think they were going to be able to sign him to the long-term deal. I I know we talked about on this show a couple of weeks ago. You know the Houston's where able to reward Laremy Tunsil with the highest offensive lineman contract in the NFL right now and I don't think the bengals or excuse me the dolphins were prepared to do that. So you know there was reasons and and sometimes, and change of scenery is the best thing that could happen to some of these guys but you know it's Just. My point was if you get rid of a bunch of guys, the first thing you've got to do is replace them before you can take that next step up, and that's you know one thing we've talked about on the show is that the the dolphins to overtake the Patriots to overtake the bills and Win The AFC east they've got to get to that next level..
Arizona Cardinals land DeAndre Hopkins, send David Johnson to Houston Texans in blockbuster trade
"To this between the Laremy Tunsil. Judean clowney and Deandre Hopkins Straight. The Texans received Laremy Tunsil. Kenny Stills David Johnson Jacob Morton Bahr Bark alias Mingo a second of third to force and six and just for that they had to give Davian cloudy De'andre Hopkins a corner named Johnson Batum Mosey Julian. Dave import two first round picks and forth they shipped out. Clowney Hopkins and two first round picks.
Jalen Ramsey's agent requested a trade after sideline clash
"Jalen Ramsey who is to me extraordinarily annoying jalen Ramsey has requested a trade aid from the Jaguars over the fact that he got into it with his head coach Doug marrone because he didn't like the idea as I did did like the idea of Jacksonville going for the win on the road and doing the two point conversion. What Dean is this brand new. What do you make yeah. I wouldn't couch this this this situation and potential accidents in those terms. I mean this. This goes back to last year. Ramsey was disciplined by the team early early in training camp for some stuff that was going on between him and some some teammates and some comments that he then put on his Social Media you know he's one of these guys who who has lost it and let his emotions get the better of them time and again on the sidelines and that runs counter to what Tom Coughlin stands dance for although I would say that it's pretty much been hallmark of these jags teams under Doug marrone. You know the the the lack of discipline when the selfish play the the guys putting themselves before the team with some of the silly penalties and and antics you know we saw it again even in week. One with miles jackets ejected from the game refuses to get off the field. I mean that's been far too prevalent so it's been brewing between him and marrone and really the whole Organization for over a year and he didn't get paid after year three even though he would make the claim he's the best corner and football ethic. He thinks he's better than half the quarterbacks in the League to if you go back to g q article a year ago so this is not like a new development I had to. NFL personnel guys reach out to me last week and both say you know I guarantee you. Jalen. Ramsey is traded before the deadline and that was before this sideline blow up if you're not gonNA pay him and he's planning on already not looking at potential holdouts next year and if he's as much of a malcontent and you could get a lot for him and Nick foles out. I know you don't want to admit that you're rebuilding but you should have already started to rebuild and now you know foles hurt and it's going to be tough sledding and you may need a road to getting a young quarterback. It might be time to stock up on draft graphics. This is a guy you can get a lot for. There's a market for him right. There is a much the the attitude and some of the antics give others pause as well and it may it may end up limiting this this market somewhat and maybe they don't get you know every penny they should get in terms of draft capital and or players like he's a better player than Laremy Tunsil but they're not gonna get you know to ones in the two to go bill. O'Brien O'Brien only has a limited amount of draft picks he can't he can't trade you know every draft pick for the rest of that organization's history so I don. I don't know I think I didn't think a one plus something else for him for Randy. I do really awesome

"You the most in week one from to herbert from and jordan love which which one of those guys to me create the most buzzer caught your eye. The most one one caught my eye. The most was actually the one on still kind of on the fence on and that's justin herber and he's got a huge arm. He's athletic. He's really smart in the first half of that game he and marcus arroyo the o._c. For oregon were on the attack and that's a really good defense against terrific d- line pretty talented on the back end to and i thought they were regressive in the second half and again. I don't know if it was a function of this really limited in what they were able to get open because because they're the receiving core is a little banged up. It's not great to begin with <hes> but they looked very passive and i think that's a concern sern because when you watch him as talented as you start to you know i made this comparison to people i know in the business and i was like i i don't know if there's a little bit of blaine gabbert in him where he's got all physical tools and you're like man this guy's not pro bowl or and he'd never play in the n._f._l. You wonder if he is i pick of the draft kinda kinda guy <hes>. Is there some josh allen. Is you know it's just i don't know oh <hes> so that's the part where again i was expecting him. I guess it was. I don't know probably like nine o'clock eastern. I'm looking at this is the first pick of the draft warsi and now now and then by the end of the night. It didn't look like it looks like the guy who struggled against michigan state who has a really good defense to struggled on. Some of the other big stages struggled on the road so <hes> that's the one i was most intrigued by because the other guys were were especially to a great receivers. He's in better shape now. No doubt about it. I was lighting up inferior. Physically i think he's he's he special. I mean there's no doubts on him. The one i said the one i keep going back on his justin. I think he's kind of thing the point i'm with you on on herbert to me. Josh allen was kind of crept in a little bit but even josh allen i would say just maybe a little bit more instinctive and reactive. I just feel with herbert man even like the stanford game last year he can look unbelievable for these stretches than all sudden. He just kind of loses. It loses the feel just some of the reaction stuff. That's almost backyard football. You want to see some of that. Just natural instincts takeover and i know it's this this is nitpicking and and i know some people think it's silly but it just bothers me on the very last play of the game that you don't have enough. You'll for the football that you put that. I think ten yards out of the back of the end zone. I mean that just is just. I don't know that that bothers me because i feel for throwing the football that isn't that is at the goal line to two to three yards into the end zone and you've got a chance even if you don't catch it for tip up to catch it but the elite guys can control the ball to ten yards out of the back of the end tone yeah. That's the thing that was the issue. I'm watching the game with with my colleague brock. You're obviously a former n._f._l. Quarterback and that is not. It's not a hail hail mary that kid dorm. That's just the show and he makes that throw and i'm like man. I'm gonna put something on a line and then it's like give somebody a chance. I mean it was just it. Almost also look like was that wrapped in practice. You know it wasn't like he was at the at his own forty five and he just got up into it each and that's i'm with you on that. That was like just disappointing. Yeah no doubt <hes> i wanna ask you about to defense guys. I'm gonna let you get back to <hes> to baseball practice here. <hes> what can you tell me about. Terrell lewis <music>. I'm no he's had the injuries they're at alabama but man bruce when you watch alabama's defense and always you're going to see some freaky guys on that tide defense but he looks freak the all of them men that dude is a specimen and he is explosive. Yeah you know what he as long as can be staying healthy. I mean he was the guy i remember number a couple of years ago at the national title game you're around more of the alabama staff at that point just because they're all out in force so a little more comfortable to talk off the record at face and everybody's like that guy and it's funny because you know they have so many five star guys in that program sometimes the guy who might have been high for store or kinda gets glossed over and it's not because they weren't you know a big study highschool or a touted prospect. Just they get overshadowed in. That guy is a little different. I mean look you know guys who who may have run or you know like a reported four forty seven and a combine or vertical jump says but then can you talk to in this is your world you talked to n._f._l. Scouts look yeah when we had accused like a four six something or they're not quite i mean there's there seems to be able to nebraska but they're not quite right as what they were touted to be <hes> and this kid. It seemed like almost the opposite where you talk to people inside the program no no. He's really really special special each scott it. Just gotta stay on you know it was it was fun to watch him. Run around hopefully to stay healthy one more guy now. You've got a chance to see him in person person there and talk to the coaches having done that stanford northwestern game <hes> pulsing deebo. I liked him when i watched him over the summer. I didn't necessarily put him up with those. <hes> those top op couple guys when you look at the corner at l._s._u. And you look at the corner at ohio state but man i watched that game and i haven't got a chance to watch the tape yet bruce but i remember thinking like whoa no yeah he. It looks like he belongs up there. In that class pulse in absolutely duane akina who is cranked out more he leaves defensive backs probably not any other coach working in college football right now now from his days at arizona at chris mcalister had all those all those earl. Thomas michael have all those guys at texas and he puts you. You know this is possible depots third year he puts all right in there with mcallister and those other guys and what's interesting with him. Is you know he had told that. Akina kina told me last week he was. You know we move you know. Sometimes there's a guy who is such a lockdown corner and like you know we're gonna give shots and nichols to keep him kind of engaged not something they did with paulson this in training camp and they said you really really took me. He's a he's put on about ten pounds from last year and they said his body fat is drop op three and a half percent which crazy math. I'm not sure you're i could be able to pull that off of kind of diet. He made a big play made a big big picking back in the game on saturday. I think they're crazy. 'cause only had one <noise> all american defensive back in its entire history. That was tangling. I'm pretty sure our barring injury that policy but it's going to be the number the second one gas. John lynch wasn't an all american bruce. He was not obviously like richard determine who had a big splash in the n._f._l. Was was not at that level as a <hes> as a college player. I mean they've had some really good players. You've come outta there for good prose but this one was this one man it's funny because he was a lot of people have done a receiver was committed to notre dame but just once he got that stanford offer jumped at it and akina was telling me take them as both in camp we liked him weren't sure and then he goes. I went to watch him play basketball and a practice and he goes like he was a very good shooter but you're watching his flippers hips asia and move and i'm like oh my god. We've got distance one. I found totally in on this kid. Well dwayne like you mentioned is the best in the business when you <hes> get a chance to visit with him i love over the years and scouting getting a chance to talk with him about all different guys that he's coached and and he's a darn good evaluator as well as a developer there so that's <hes> that's that's big stuff there on paulsen and diva look for watching him the rest of the bruce skip active baseball practice buddy. I appreciate your time man. Oh always a pleasure to be here. We'll talk to you soon. Well there there you go back. <hes> bruce's always generous with his time even when he's out of the literally game <hes> giving us some nuggets there about some of these top quarterbacks as well as some intriguing defensive players the buck. I don't know if you're with me or not. I thought the star that we can wasn't a player. I thought it was actually a lincoln riley. Oh absolutely what the lincoln riley did and waited. He has gotten jalen hurts up and going. I think is another resume builder just past his resume. When you look at the game i i think <hes> looking at the game not only as a scout but as a fan and as a spectator spectator you're looking at the game and looking at jalen hurts you trying to envision how could jalen hers play at the next level. How can you be a pro is a legitimate n._f._l. Prospect and then what lincoln raleigh did is he gave a blueprint for how he potentially could play at the next level use a mix of his legs his arm make plays and do that and then you look at it and you're like like wow like just think about this guy in the last three years has at baker mayfield number one overall pick calum murray number overall pick. We don't know what jalen hers will be when it comes to the draft but the fact that you as an office of innovator can take our say three different style of quarterbacks and allow your system <hes> to steal be successful to me. That's a huge credit on the n._f._l. Level the only got it aca related to would be joe gibbs. Joe gibbs went to the super bowl with three different for quarterbacks and because he was so flexible in his thinking that he was creative enough to find ways to put those guys in situations where they play to their strengths. Lincoln riley on the collegiate level is demonstrating that ability and i think if i'm looking for a college coast to come to the league one of the first the things that i believe you have to have you gotta have adaptability meaning. I can take what is already here and can be like okay. This is what i have where here's what i'm gonna do with what we have until i can get all the pieces that are want and still willing games link rallies kinda showing that yes he needs some more seasoning seasoning in my mind when it comes to be ready for the pros but his innovativeness his creativity mankind of sets them apart for some of the other guys because not justice justice system is his ability to mod around what he has to me..

"And i'm talking left or right just guys you can play with and you can win. There is there is none. There's not enough talented left tackles coming in the n._f._l. Fell so you get one like you said. It's a known commodity. That's number three the last one and this is part of the discussion. I think book is we talk about having a head coach and general no manager. The head coach is always right now tomorrow today he <hes> what's going to help us win a general manager long-term that's why it used to be general managers could hire a couple of coaches because they always had to look after the long term of the organization. We're a head coach is trying to just make sure he survives another year so this was a right now decision not saying it's right right or wrong. I'm just saying head coaches. Look at it and say we gotta play next week. I need some help and that's why you see a decision like this. Being made is funny. I i love all these points like because all these points i think are apply several situations but in houston it is all about the quarterback you have a legitimate quarterback you found him in a draft identified them now is bid around you brought up the example with gerry goffin what the ramsey jared goff in terms of surrounding him before his mom and he's played like a king since their point <hes> <hes> the championship window being open right now as much as we like to speculate a man. This team is going to be good to go for the next two three four years. We never know on a year you to your basis. Due to the chemistry continuity of the team changes if the window is open you gotta some you got to bust through the window right now. This is your chance in terms of the pipeline there you're right. There isn't a pipeline at college there. There isn't a single college. Debt is pumping out offensive tackles office of lyman at a rate where we're saying. Hey these guys can absolutely get you just go to university. You can get it. We talked about stanford and all the office of lima date have come out of stanford last year's. Those guys hasn't really panned out at materialize realized so if stanford is at the upper end. Maybe one of the elite programs them in iowa and maybe wisconsin hordes noted at notre dame has been the best been the school is hard to find him in so if i can't find him then what i gotta do is i got overpay because someone else in the pros has developed develop my guy now. I'm gonna take it from me. So that's what you do and then the head coach versus gentlemen. A debate is one that always goes on and and meeting rooms around the league. The head coach is short term. He is singularly focused on. What can i do to help us win week. One week two week sixteen the general manager is supposed to be the one that acts as the checks imbalances to the head coach a coach on. We still got to set this up for sustained run but the way going now d._j. The way the volatility in the league is you. You can't even really think about a long-term plan. You gotta find a way to get your team into the playoffs and win some games and hopefully that playoff run will buy some time to then rebuild field on the fly. There's no long term plans to as a project metairie down and don't build it back up. Even though the dos are trying to do that owners want to see if if you can win dan repair while you winning not reveal why you winning and last thing and then we'll move on and talk talk to <hes> to our buddy bruce feldman but i know they do not have a first round pick the next two years but now is the time and as i'm guessing it's necessary. I think that's that's what most people in the league expect to happen that wants the year's over that nixon syria will make that leap from new england in general manager there for bill o'brien and houston texans but if it's it's not next somebody else you better get the right g._m. Because next year while you have no one i believe they have a second round. Pick and with picks even peter king might have said this they have they have three third round picks next year and i believe two fourth round picks so while you don't have a one three threes fours you've gotta to you better. Make sure you're scouting. Accounting department is led by the right guy and you can go out and find those key players and because now the the margin of error is not there. I mean you've got you've cutty hit on those picks. You can't afford to miss on them so that to me is is <hes> underscores the importance than hiring the guy the we can talk about this we saw the seahawks hawks kinda take a loaf of bread and feed the masses they slice and have many picks slice it off and they were able able to get <hes> a plethora picks that allow them to fortify their roster. We will see the next day comes to houston. He has to be one of those guys. That can be a miracle worker worker. He has to be able to take the hammer the picks they have trade parlay those into multiple picks and then parlay those picks and two players and so is a waltari tiered process but they got expanded picks to have and then they got to bring in the right place to feel the knees on that team and also going to have an opportunity to be active in free agency. I i would believe too when you're not gonna have a first round. Pick the next couple of years. You'd probably get a big ticket. Item there in free agency so it'll be answered the follow this texas team and see what they end up doing going forward. We're all right buck. Let's switch gears here. Talk a little college football. I had a chance a little bit earlier today to catch up with our buddy bruce. Feldman bruce says if you don't bruce works for the athletic is one of the best writers for college football and has been for a very long time working for various outlets and does a wonderful job on fox as a sideline reporter order for one of their top college football teams. Nobody knows these college kids better then bruce feldman. He's been a great resource for us over the years and had a chance to visit with him about about some of the goings on from week one of the college football season abors appreciate you joining us man. I understand. We're at a baseball game right now so we hear a little noise in the background. You're not actually participating in this game. They'll right. We're watching. We're watching youngsters out there. We are watching. It's my five year old steine. It's the beginning of all baseball practice which yeah i know about. What kind of swing what kind of are we working with. <hes> not bad. He's a little <hes> but he's really into red so he's favorite player as to which she's profile. That's good. That's good copyright. There and scouting got to have a good copy already got it. I love it. He's already payment. I want to jump into some of these. Some of these college football topics here for first thing. I want to ask you about because i thought watching football all weekend and get a chance to to watch a lot of tape of these games. The thing that kinda just stood out to me. I thought the star of the weekend was really lincoln riley highly. I mean what this guy's been able to do year. After year. After year we know about the transfers to first round picks to first overall picks and here comes jalen hurts and <hes> bruce to me. Look look more comfortable more confident as a passer. The scheme seems to fit him and i just keep coming back to lincoln riley and and i don't know that we've seen anything like what he's been able to do. In terms of of really getting the best out of this position yeah user friendly to the extreme and i think what's really interesting to here's your three buried distinct personality. All maker runs pretty well. Obviously kyla runs really well. In jalen hurts bigger dude who runs well with the personalities are really really really different. I think to make them all fit is impressive how he gets guys comfortable and remember. The first guys were transfers and they sat out a year. <hes> ah jalen just got there in the spring hit the ground running also new offense of line. I think i've said this a couple of four. I think the best kept secret in in major college. Football is attached to lincoln riley and that's bill meanwhile the offense a line coach they only had one guy back and what what he does not just develop and his guys but also in the way they scheme scheme up some stuff in the run game. That's a lot of beedon law and riley working together and i i just don't think <hes> he probably gets enough credit for what he does but but lincoln's lincoln's ability to attack defenses and get people off balance with things it just like he always has a lot of interesting little wrinkles and i think that's what that makes jason berry different from the other guys but leach does what leads does and he does a really adds stuff because he doesn't want to take anything away from the system lincoln field because always adding stuff and he makes it where it's pretty seamless and how able to get these guys to grasp but this is really early. I know it's just one week into the season but it just kind of begs the question you know three years from now five years from now is lincoln riley still is he still in norman at that time in your opinion or do you think this is eventually going to get to the point where he wants to scratch an niche and then go try. It tried out the next level eventually. I think we'll get to that point. I don't think he's there now for a couple of reasons one. He has a really young family family that they've gotten settled in there too. I think he knows he's got a great situation. He's got the best in college football. He works for joe castiglione. I think he sees an opportunity to really make an imprint in college football what he can do there and i think he knows that the n._f._l. Is going to be there. <hes> you know five years yes from now. I think what if you're him you're pretty close to to ask a real shot to win some rings and i'm talking to national titles not no big ten title the big twelve titles and the addition alex grinch as a defensive coordinator now. This is his staff. I don't wanna say that you know. He didn't feel any sense of ownership. When when mike stoops bob's brother was running off run on the defense but i do feel like there is h window here and again you know he he recruited at quarterback. Who's a freshman from arizona spencer rattler who is a really good fit. I mean it feels like almost everybody. If you have talent is a good fit for what lincoln's gonna do 'cause is he gonna fit it to you but i think i think he's gonna be there for the run of at least wherever happens in the next four or five years with these recruits and then i would see i would not be are you surprised if he jumped but i would i would. I would be surprised if he jumped within the next year or so. Well might have to wait for them the n._f._l. Might have to wait for him. I should say but i know one thing. I guarantee you that these these oklahoma games aren't just being watched around college football guarantee. There's n._f._l. Teams in n._f._l. Off of coordinators studying what lincoln's do him because he seems to got a couple of good <hes> wrinkles each and every time you see this oklahoma team play a couple of other quarterbacks want to hit on before we get over some other guys from from these four what stood it out to you.
"laremy" Discussed on NFL: Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah & Bucky Brooks
"And now move the sticks with daniel jeremiah and bucky brooks everybody what's going on walker to the move the sticks d._j. And bucky and man all that time in the off season. We're we're trying to figure out what we're going to talk about. What can we do. Oh no shortage of topics for us to chop up today coma. You gotta love it. You gotta love like man. I think everything is better. When you have a deadline i think when you put a cut deadline or something like that like you get all the flurry of activity and i never anticipated what we were able to see the deadline just the amount of trades the amount on a people leaving places some of the guys that were cut some of the guys that were picked up after they were cut it has been a crazy crazy weekend and and don't forget you sprinkle a little college football lender and made it a very exciting weekend in no doubt and that's the ground. We're going to cover today. We're gonna talk about these. Two big trades involving the houston houston texans shipping out cloudy bringing in laremy tunsil to humongous trades. We'll dig into our thoughts on those deals. We're going to do a little college football football switching over to that side getting a chance to see the first full slate of games a lot of fun. We both had a chance to dig in. Watch them tape study what we what we saw from some of the top players there's in the country. We're gonna focus a lot on those quarterbacks while some other key players from the week and we got our good buddy bruce feldman. I had a chance to visit with bruce actually while he was out in a little league baseball game <hes> he was kind enough to join me earlier today and <hes> and talk about some of the top players in college football talk really about lincoln riley. Who would my opinion book. I thought what was the star of football weekend and somebody. That's going to generate a lot of discussion in the college as well as the n._f._l. Circle absolutely is a great time to talk about all these guys because i think the more that the college game infiltrates the pro game the more you have these owners and general managers ages decision-makers look into the game to see who can be the next big thing and even though we have all eyes on kingsbury. There may be some skepticism about him. I i do believe the way the game is going more gas or looking for innovators and the way lincoln rally put on a show with his third quarterback in three years. I think you have a lot of people are going to be knocking on his door and no doubt all right well. Let's let's jump right in here because it's rare. You have trades like this and the n._f._l. We we saw it last year with the khalil mack trade about this the same time and we see another one the guy who was picked ahead of him in his draft class at having cloudy he did not report for the houston texans would not sign his franchise which is tender the fact that they were unable to to make a move with him prior to i believe it's july fifteenth was the deadline meant that he could no longer sign a contract extension so just a matter of him signing the franchise tag and showing up the plane houston or signing it and allow himself to be traded and once that deadline had passed once he wasn't showing up he kinda got to call his own shot book where he was going to go because you want to train the dolphins that's fine. I'm not gonna sign my tender. You can't treat me so they had to find a team. He was agreeable to go to do that. Ended up being the seattle seahawks for really a small price talking about a third round pick in two thousand twenty backup linebacker jacob martin and arkadiusz just mingo kind of a a a swing guy can rush little bit be linebacker a little bit of a disappointment through his career <hes> but <hes> bring some athleticism to help the depth there for the houston texans. I guess <hes> just get your overall thoughts on this thing. Wow there's so many so many thoughts on these trade <hes> let me first say based on some intel and talking to people around houston <hes> the whole issue today being clowney and bill o'brien in the houston texans kind of centered around the fact that the texans didn't believe that cloudy was a great worker they had questions about his durability and his injury history and then his overall desire to be a great player. <hes> bill o'brien come from where he comes from having ties to the patriots organization having spent time there. He's used to a certain way of going about your business. Gazzetta professional guys that kinda relished the opportunity to do extra stuff extra work extra time into film room extra stuff on the practice field all of that and today cloudy wasn't a guy based on what i talked to you know based on reports that heard from people down there that just wasn't his thing being and bill o'brien had a tough time envisioning giving him a ton of money knowing that he wasn't going to turn around and be one of those model citizens jason when it came to work ethic and that stuff and so looked damian cloudy never has been a fan of training camp and all those things and so they knew that this was going to be an opportunity for him to be away but bill brown was just hell bent on. I'm not paying him big money. When i know he's not really that guy <hes> that is gonna take the money and elevators game he would rather just keep them on a one year deal and move on and so when this trade opportunity came up with the seattle seahawks he was more than willing to to make the deal and even though they gave up seven billion in cash to go with him in the third round pick holiday other stuff <hes> bill o'brien just did not want that kinda gas said into standard in the locker room. That's why he parted ways with yeah. I mean i think you hit on a lot of the key points there buck and and when you look at clowning it let let let me just say this way. It's possible to be a great player and also be a disappointment as crazy as that sounds but cloudy bucked the ceiling has been so high from him in the expectations so high while he's been i would say even a great player dominant against running a good pass rusher. He's never had double digit sacks ax. I mean you're looking at the sack totals. It's four and a half one year six nine and a half nine <hes> those are good numbers and easy great run-defender and he's had a chance to play the opposite or alongside one of the best pass rushers in the history of the n._f._l. In j._j. watt so you know you're going to get some opportunities to rush there but it is. It's it's fell l. short of what the expectation was for him. I think this'll be good for him. <hes> go to seattle even if it's just a one year rental for the sea hawks pete carroll will be good for him. He'll be able to get him gone on. I'm hoping is good been. I'm hoping we're going to see a more consistent cloudy and and give us fifteen sixteen year that you know he's capable april of with his ability it just hasn't happened there and and we look at the houston texans miscalculation was they thought he would show up and they would get him for this year and that didn't happen happen. He didn't show up in that change their plans and they had to do what they had to do now. They had to do it they had to do. I think this is also a great lesson for us. S cows d._j. People i don't really change right so the same questions that we have about today cloudy now we had those same questions that concerns when he was coming out of south carolina because remember last year there were people people that believed that he shut it down that he didn't really give maximum effort for steve spurrier that he was a guy that would milk injuries and he wouldn't show up and do all the things that you expect a high level player to do and he did flash but never really fully produce we saw the flash we knocked the helmet off and that kind of put them on the map we saw flashes of great athleticism and stuff but we never saw him become a refine rusher. We never saw him take his game up from good to great great when it came to technically and fundamentally dominating the position and so he does kind of leave you wanting more and now i won't say see that he is displayed because i don't think he's as good as a player but i do remember when we were in carolina we had julius peppers and you'll peppers was the second overall pick julius. Who's peppers got a bunch of sex but there was an internal feeling pamphlet. He could be doing this even more now. What so we overestimated. We underestimated like how hard it is to find someone who can do what julius was able to do and that's why they brought back at the end of his career because there was a greater appreciation for someone who fell out of beta could get you twelve to thirteen fourteen sex. The difference is davy. Cloudy isn't quite julius peppers level when it comes to his ability to get to the quarterback. Julius was more refined with clowney what i see as a raw athlete whose explosive he's powerful but he still it doesn't have a plan for getting to the quarterback and i don't know if you can teach somebody to have a plan for five years into the league. I do know that pete carroll loves loves. Athletic is with instincts and he'll trae does traits over anything else so we'll see if it works for him but seattle has proven. They're not afraid to duties one year rentals. They did it a couple of years ago. Where sheldon richardson it didn't work out long-term but for year this clown can do gives them a top hash in a league where you need pass risk did not quarterback now yeah. It's a it's a good move. I think by john schneider and he's he's getting a lot of praise for what they're able to pull off here. In the limited amount they had to give up to bring in somebody like cloudy. Now you go back to having frank clark in the decision. They made to move on from frank. Clark ended up trading him <hes> for picks one of which ended up in l. j. collier their first round pick on fortunately hasn't been healthy chintzy much of him but now you're kind of got a committee of guys now with l. J. collier cloudy and they are able to get a couple of other players players ziggy so well yeah. They got some money for my only thing. Though book is if you look at the collection those were a lot of players. There's players. We talked about cloudy. Hopefully hopefully finding that level. Frank clark's better than all of them. Well you know what he is a better football player right then all those guys the thing. Is you know what you have in front clark like you. Don't know what you're going to get from judean cloudy inzaghi <hes> both guys have what injuries typically you like to trade the homegrown thing for the unknown especially when you draft a player typically the premises to draft develop and resigned whatever issues they had with frank clark. They believed they can get more and so. They have three guys trying to do the job. They're frank clark dig. We will see how it turns out but you're right. Frank clark is a really really good football player. <hes> frank clark is a better football player than we've seen from both of these guys at their best <hes> so we'll see how it works out but kudos to them for being able to get. Maybe maybe a three for one deal in terms a hall. I mean look you let go of frank clark today via clowney ziggy ansah for less than what you would have paid for for the franchise tag if it works so you like an economic genius but we'll see what it looks like to me again the creativity of john schneider. That's what what what what impresses me. He's got a plan and he's able to maximize his opportunity there are let's get to the next trade here but because this is a huge one <hes> texans make their trade for laremy tunsil with the miami dolphins the the the texans receive laremy tunsil kenny stills fourth round pick in twenty twenty sixth round pick in two thousand twenty one. Here's what they gave up. They gave up their first round. Pick in twenty twenty twenty and their first round pick in twenty twenty one their second round pick also in two thousand twenty one and then some some fodder for the back end of the roster there for the dolphins <hes> tackle jillian davenport and corner johnson batum osa who is really a special teams player so again. I reacted this deal was what man i cannot believe lead. The miami dolphins partnered with something that we say is. Maybe the second most important position maybe third most important position in the pecking order of team building a left tackle. Oh it is hard to find a left tackle that emerges as a great tackle in the league labs also has been all of that laremy..

"Beef with your article was you had Laremy Tunsil at number two, and Xavi and Howard who just got paid line with what is the best contract for a corner in the league. Yes. Avian Howard at number four things. Avian Howard is proven more than bam on a bio at three. He's proven more certainly than Laremy Tunsil. He's right. A Barkov I think is a clear number one. Why did you put that there was that just you projecting Tunsil and bam to be better than saving Howard to be better than someone who's paid best at his position? Well, Tunsil is going to be paid the mound to extend tonsils contract. And, and make him a possibly the best paid left tackle. I think tonsils done as much as exhibiting Howard tonsils the, the best tackle not to make a Pro Bowl, yet similar, because playing for the dolphins you're sort of a no man's land, but you certainly could make an argument that Howard should be the highest rank dolphin. You know, the whole list is subjective, you know, and I wrestled with a lot of well, should my guy ranked thirteenth be hire them. I guy ranked night, you know, but I. Want it to be a conversation piece. You know, I want fans to read this and say, wow. This guy's rank way to lie. Or this guy's ranked a little low south Florida sports. Thanks you in the next segment. I want to tackle something with Greg, Cody that he doesn't really tackle because he's notoriously. He hasn't seen a movie in the theaters. Sing since swing vote the Kevin Costner via. But I wonder if he's seen, because I know your big Elton John fan, right? Rocket man. We get your thoughts on rocket man. Next. Donlevatar. Okay. John. Yeah. That's a good question. I was going to ask that is everything. Okay. Oh, cough night, allergies. So it makes me okay. No problem, Stu. Gods? You'll get. Yeah. Y-. Okay. Jeff yoga. How about you? I'm thanks for your concern. Never had anyone I've never met this concerned over the house. I appreciate it. Okay. I'm a big fan. Let me now I'm not okay. I don't care how I'm doing anyway. More. True. Even now. She sees the donlevatar show with stugatz on the ticket, Greg. I have a bit of a conundrum that I'd like your help with your along with the listeners of possible. Seven eight six four five six four three seven. I thought about making this a helping container but I don't want to abuse the power of the helping container and the help from the audience. So I'm not going to do that. Also, I need the help and usually I am moderating. The helping container. So it would be difficult. So here's the deal. I'll just give you a quick little back story. This weekend was a long weekend, obviously. And I went to siesta key, Florida lovely place. It was very nice, whether it was great. So when I was there we were, you know, preparing to have Long Beach days, and I went, and we took a tent to, to go have our, our beach days, and I was setting up the tent and I quickly realized I left a very important aspect of the tent behind. Can you guess what I left behind Greg, you probably left behind the hammer that pounds in the pegs more? Than that. I left the stakes behind that would hold down the tent themselves. Oh, yeah. And an a helpful friend Samis struggling with the fact that the ten it was a windy day. And the tent was kinda kept getting picked up by the wind. So he said, hey, I have extra stakes if you'd like to borrow them. I said, oh my God. Thank you. You're an angel. Why don't know if I said that. Exactly. But I was thinking he wasn't ngelo. So then the day, you know, we had a nice day. He was next to me him, and his family were next to me. We shared hamburgers stranger Aures. Yeah. I didn't know him. And then I saw him panta packing.

"So I got a quick sample of how angry he was. I've never heard John this step by George. These are the same GM's the ones you're still there. He strapped guy that of the old days hockey. I have new respect for Yukio banging my head against the wall. I wouldn't go back and forth with it'd be quiet. You know, but look, everybody has their opinion about where people should go. And what type of draft this is and, and, you know, certainly everybody's saying in sports, and sports, Geno. You've been around Jaafar longtime the moment that one person says this, the second person says third. Everybody else gets lazy easy for them to say. Even even when they think even when they think they know in their mind that that's not what it is. They're still going to say it. I see it in football all the time. And I tell people in football, tell these guys they're not looking to draft high. Anyway. They looking for value. Right. They can push a guy down and get a guy who's project the top five if they get him into twenties. They're like, yes. Look what I've done. I've saved money and I got the guy that I want. That's just there's a draft controversy like Laremy Tunsil. The kid Miami took. And he'd got smoking weed, and he dropped Warren Sapp drop. Yeah. But he wasn't known we. But anyway, that's I'm just saying that your point. They, they like. It they'll, they'll say, oh, it's a terrible situation for the young man. You're exactly right. They like all right. So did you get a chance to watch the game last night? I watched about three watched about three and a half quarters of the blazers played great. They just blew the lead in the seventeen point lead. And I think it got crushed to about thirteen and we'll at, at the end of the third quarter, it was tied. They arrays the entire lead in the third quarter. And at the end of the game, the warriors had a three point lead came and let at a chance to tie it. He had found we talked about that. But key, the thing that came out. That's interesting. Is it Kevin Durant tonight, even going on the plane to Portman he's out for games three and four. And I think the words are gonna win the series I think Portland's got their hands full but, but as long as Durant out in my opinion, Portland has a has a punchers chance. Yeah. That's true. They, but the problem that you have is always going to travel guys yesterday, or today before, even is when you are a veteran team that knows how to. Jumpstart yourself you never panicking. You never get down when something starts to go Rominger down seventy points. I never sat there was like I wish they had Kevin Durant. No. Because they can race lead like that. I did. And they, they could hit the reset button from four five years ago when they wanna championship when Durant wasn't on a team even though they would love to have Durant. They still know how to win without Durant in there. Steve Kerr and right Brown still knows how to put the right team on the floor in the right things. Do Steph curry, obviously, since Durant's been gone is basically taking completely over. And can we stop with this? With this thing. The warriors are better without Durant. They are there. They're all they're two different. What the point just made? Yes. And what I just said are two different things who why do you why do you think they're better without because hates Kevin, who doesn't like, Kevin Durant. He crybaby said he always wanted to do. Every starts acting like little animal. Weeping in panoramic..

"The sporting life and this week with the NFL draft upon us. We're talking about many facets of the draft. And that's the reason why we invited our next guest to be on the show. Mark kiss. Do is New York City police officer his new book is with the first pick. And it's an exploration of the NFL draft in decisions made by teams concerning players who have off the field and other issues that aren't necessarily related soli their football steals, Mark. Thank you for joining us. Thank you. Appreciate it, Mark. This is a privately published book it's called with the first pick. It's available and Amazon dot com. And I was reading it with interest. First of all because it's it's unusual to your active New York City police officer of picture book that he is written particularly about football. What led you to this project? Well, germy I was looking at the two thousand. Sixteen draft. And there's this one player that just just gained my attention. And they were talking about how high he was going to go before the draft start in his even Laremy Tunsil. And somehow his the footage video of him possibly doing drugs. And how teams were just start. He's you're starting to dropping draft and young men I felt bad for him. I was just wondering I say whether more prospects like Laremy Tunsil that their misbehavior or misconduct. While they're young men just is gonna fix them by them losing so much money. And I guess a police officer, you know, I always thought to myself. I said you deal with young men who get in trouble every day, but they're not on this level of like they're gonna lose millions of dollars by by by the way, they act you use a lot of case studies in the book talking about decisions made by teams either to take into account or to ignore off the field behavior that took place before the draft when they're making their decisions. What's your jets fan? What's your big takeaway here? God. Big tickly was basically like how I guess some teams some teams do pick tally over of the person's past. And it's just like this alarm when these players when it comes up again, and they do the same act, and it just everyone is there's no one no one takes fault. No, one takes blame. Because I guess the, you know, the main goal is to make money or to win. And it was just and there are certain players. I did mentioned and they're coming to light for doing the same exact thing today, you know, like like Tyree till tyreek hill was he he was you know, a fifth round draft pick. But he was suspended from college for salt and his pregnant girlfriend and just recently it came up where he was involved in a domestic violence with his fiance who is child of his mother, and he just raising custody of his son tooth investigate. Violence and the Kansas City Chiefs. They still drafted him because he's an all pro you know, he's on everyone's fantasy team. But at the end of the day, he's still doing the same thing getting college. What are the examples? Use Johnny Manziel who. Of course was famously drafted by Cleveland Browns in the first round that turned into he turned into a bust. Of course, there was ample evidence for the Browns to draw upon before making that selection that would lead them to believe the Johnny Manziel would be of bus or would not pan out. So I if you were working instead of a police officer, but instead of for the NFL advising teams or or the league itself drafting players troubled past when you decide that okay? It's worth taking a risk. And when you side it's not worth taking risk. Well. The thing with the NFL is they have a like a large personal conduct policy. They have almost everything covered as I guess if I was in investigating the player for NFL team. I looked to see, you know, was individual charge was charges dropped. What is where the dieted? Did they have to take anger Benjamin classes to to what extent and it's like to report back team ownerships like listen, do you wanna take a chance on player who has been arrested in that might cause, you know, bad? You know media, you know, back, you know, complaints for us or fan complaints to me. It's just me personally, if anyone's been arrested in college for anything violence, I I would tell the team owner like don't take a chance, you know, where there's some players that you didn't they weren't even in troubling college for for violence or anything. And then when it comes to NFL it changes. So you really don't know what you have you know, which are.

"If Tae to listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast talking to match stench comb that his playing days and twenty years ago man want to go back to talking about it may go because we we had a brief conversation during the break, and I want you to share those I was asked this trial and New York gift between college basketball and college football. And I I would like you to elaborate on that. Because their college football has its issues, but leased as of this hour things could change over the next five. Sure as we saw three years ago with Laremy Tunsil. It doesn't seem to be as much of a cesspool as as basketball. Why I think there is a point of distinction in that when you look at this what's transpiring unraveling in college basketball. Is the corporate involvement? And I just don't know where the entry point is the point of value would be corporately speaking for corporate brand to pursue high school football player. I don't think it's a function on football has higher mores. I don't think that basketball's irretrievable in that regard. Although there's a lot of work to be done by do think that the I think the most distinct element is not enthusiasm. It's not I think the opportunity for transgression or impropriety. I think it's that there is not really a reason for a brand a corporate entity to wonder. Because I I mean, his contracts are going to be emits. Yeah. Where I'm trying to think in in recent memory, a college football player that would I mean, there've been valuable college football player, no doubt. And ultimately, they will become valuable Cam Newton does a lot of endorsements others others have done. So but not there's not a standalone they didn't come out of high school. Like that though. I think that's the biggest point of distinction is that the awareness of the individual in basketball, and it's a function of the sports. They don't have a cage in front of their race. It's less of a collective, you know, there's five players on the court. You can run clear out plays and one guy can dominate a game. You can't do that in football. I think all those things adds to. I think what we're seeing unfortunately happening. And thankfully, I think that it's being unearthed in basketball. It's unfortunate, no doubt. But the hope will always be that what will come of all this is not necessarily a cleansing. But some level of progression towards a model that works that will eliminate the steering of kids to certain schools just for the the embellishment of their personal brand for somebody to sell. She there's almost a model that does work and just let them go straight to the NBA. They could do that. Well, and I and I will say this. They don't have to play college basketball, right? Go play in Europe. Go play in China for your to. I don't. But you do not have to play college basketball. There's nothing in the arrangement with the NBA that requires them to do that. However, I will say this you go play in Europe and China, and your brand is going to take a hit versus playing at a Kansas at a Kentucky at a Duke or wherever and I'm not implicating any of those programs. Those are the blue blood basketball programs. And of course, there's a lot of cameras in eyeballs on them helps that brand a lot of cameras in eyeballs on the draft tonight..

So how loose with the truth? Were you at times when dealing with the media, not saying, you're flat outline, but maybe throwing smokescreens one way or the other, you know, coach Parcells my mentor. He so he's talking about he's Mr. T, we're in the business of collecting information, not exchanging it, and truly that's what you're doing this time of year. You're really trying to collect information. And we're just telling a story about Durell Rivas going back to the seventy and Marty hurting ironically who still the GM and the Panthers we had talked a couple of times about, hey, we're at twenty five we'd like to move up to fourteen for one player, and we basically had an agreement principle for what was going to turn out to be our first round pick, which was twenty. Five and are around which was fifty nine. If this one player was there turned out to be a great win win. We were able to go up and get rebus. They actually drafted in the first round John zombies. Linebacker and then Ryan Kalil. At fifty nine. So it was a great win win. And that was just an example of hey, three days before the draft. Here's actually what we're doing. We're making calls, and there was a lot of trust there where you know on the clock. He was going to ask some more or we were going to try to trade up for less when do call start like that. And how much can you actually pull off before your back's against the wall? And you're on the clock during the draft really goes back to trust. Because Marty was a guy that I done a lot of work with. So those calls really worked for us here a little bit too. Well, that's probably why. So those calls are actually starting right now. Thursday's the first day of the draft. So yesterday today, you're five ten spots ahead five ten spots below. You're having those conversations you try and collect information. And I say like when you have the privilege of one of these jobs. You're the point guard of information you're going back to your head coach you're going back to your owner and say, okay, hey, we had three cores that year. We had Aaron Ross Leon hall from Michigan. And we said, right? We want to get one of these three corners. And here's the price. It's gonna take a we comfortable giving up our second round pick to go up and get the real reebus felt good about it. It was Coachman Jeanie. And we obviously went ahead. And that that's a trade that worked out talking to Mike tantamount with us in studio here on Golic and wingo. How often does it go down like that? And then how often because we see so many of these big draft day trades. How often can it just be certain things happen that we're outside of your control that all of a sudden you're reacting to on the fly. Yeah. That happened a couple of years ago. Mike with Laremy Tunsil. You know, we're sitting there. Oh, yeah. With the thirteenth pick in the draft and Tennessee, you know, they had the first pick for a long time. And everyone's like, oh, they're gonna take Tunsil. They need to tackle. And we're sitting there at thirteen just hoping to get a good player. Adam gates, his first year, Chris cours, Joel manager. And then also like, oh, my God eight nine ten and unfortunately, St. Rosser owner, case grit were also right there, and we're like, wow. This is unbelievable opportunity. Obviously he had made a mistake. But you know, we fell back on our preparation, and we've got what we felt was the best player in the draft at thirteen for those that don't know the Laremy Tunsil story that was the one where former agent or social of his put out the video of him smoking weed in a gas mask bomb, basically, that's why I say draft. That's why I say the draft is the ultimate reality. And so he dropped to in that time period when he was dropping did you call him and ask him about it. Or did you just go on your your research? You no, Mike scrape point. We were getting as much information as we could we felt good about our preparation and our sources we reach out to him and his represented. And it was a good kid who had made a mistake. Now you fast forward. He's playing forty four games. Great. And he's a great teammate. Good example, too of like, hey, when you're young person sometimes you make mistakes that happens. But when you look at all the information, we had we felt really good that we knew that. This guy was an elite player, and we can get him in our building. You know, it would be good move for us. So with that in mind because no one was prepared to see that video when it was released and the way it came out in twenty seventeen in Chicago. I always call the draft alternate reality television show because there is no script. Nobody knows what's going to happen. How weird is it? Like starting now in going through Saturday when you have literally no idea what may or may not pop up in the call. You may or may not get. Yeah. That's exactly right. And one thing I can tell you for sure that's one hundred percent certain is if you're seeing there eight or six players you love, right? Correct. Twelve there's ten that you have to have it always works out that way. So you just want to be prepared within reason that hey, let's go up a couple of spots. Maybe we'll move back. But when you want to move back the phone never rings like it always seems to work out that way. So it is the ultimate reality show. That's what makes it fun at. Yo you just want to come out of it. We always say, hey, let's get you know, four or five really good players at a good fit for a locker room. And if anything that happens, that's great. But they're so little of this that you actually can't control. I'm so interested. You talked about falling back on your preparation with a guy like Laremy Tunsil. And as important as tackles are they're not quarterback. So we. Know you're judged differently. When it comes back to vision. What is the difficulty in Scott a quarterback because we're hearing all this stuff about Daniel Jones on the giants. Now, a guy who has climbed up draft boards almost inexplicably. What is it about that position? That makes it so difficult for front offices coaches to all come together and agree on Mike. I think it's a developmental position. And he just don't get enough reps. And I give Sean McVeigh and the Rams so much credit because if you look at Jared Goff when he was drafted. He was drafted by defensive coach Jeff Fisher his first year five touchdown center interceptions. He came in. He had every right to say, hey, you know, what this guy is a good enough. We're gonna move on. But in your to he goes from five touchdowns to twenty eight. They went eleven games and there were three quarterbacks in the first round, Mahomes Trubisky and Watson, and he passed it all three, and if I'm Steve and cliff Kingsbury, I'm looking at Josh Rosen the same way I'm saying that this guy he won three games as a starter. It was below average, obviously. But in year two I got cliff Kingsbury now an offensive. Head coach and why not try to you know, coach him and get him. Better. A thousand percent agree. I liked Roseanne coming out of college. I couldn't agree more as far as Mike just brought up Daniel Jones in the case. We're at right now when you as a team zero on someone and say, okay, we have a quarterback need. We think he's a franchise quarterback. But you have to picks you chance that that a guy like that is going to be there at seventeen or you just say everything else be damned we know. It's probably too high for them. But we gotta take him at six. We think he's our guy. Yeah. I think if you go back to two thousand fourteen I think that's really instructive for the giants. We look at what the Vikings did. They took Anthony Barr at nine, and then they came back and took teddy Bridgewater at thirty two. Right. You know, if you go back a few years know Baltimore did that in three when they took Terrell suggs. And then they came back and took bowler. So there's a lot of examples or even the Browns have done that a couple of times. So I think you gotta play the board. If you look at the giants they were thirtieth last year in sack so they can get a pressure play. Or at six where the draft is loaded and then maybe come back and take the Jones at seventeen. Now. You you pair that with Barclay you get site ler. Like, I think that's a better more efficient way of going because I think the strength of the draft is in the front seven. So to me if you get that pressure played six that's a great place to start because there are a couple of on the quarterback needy teams ahead of seventeen you have to be ready to maybe jump up if you really want Jones after that. Yeah. No doubt about like, I've always been a philosophy. If you like a player, and it checks all the boxes. Character ability. Go up and get them it. Listen, it exactly. Right. Because at the end of the day, if he if he turns out to be what you thought he is then nobody cares. That's exactly right. I listen. We know you gotta run because we gotta do some other stuff we stop and by Mike Tannenbaum, whether it's by the way, he'll be part of the SPN radios draft covering all three days ghosts, get out get out of available to heighten anytime. Skills are experience. Underrated movie up the draft hikers..

"Tell me Laron is no stranger to controversy. I have a question for the self righteous Hollywood liberal, Tommy Laremy Laron, Tommy, Tommy Laremy, Larry. Welcome. Tommy, Larry this country the country that you have so much. Disdain that allows you the right to speak your mind. Protect your rights. He'll whiny indulge attention seeking. Why did? My name is Nigel Jason hammer is here. We'll go speak to the Highland and bring on Tommy Laron from Fox News and FOX nation dot com. Tommy happy new year. How are you? Happy new year guys. It's going to be a good one. It's gonna be interesting for sure we'll start with. We'll start with Bernie Sanders apologizing for these these allegations of sex harassment within the inner workings of his two thousand sixteen campaign. You know, male staffers preying on female employees e claims he didn't know anything about it. But he went on Anderson Cooper. Instead, he sorry. So it's everything's okay. Because he apologized. So something tells me, you know, there aren't going to be any demonstrations or protests or calls for him to step down. What do you think? Really simple for those molested anytime. You're accused anything. They simply Paul everyone forgets about it. And then they're on their merry way. Not. So with those of us on the right? But I think it's really funny for those on the left, especially those social warrior type like Bernie Sanders when this happened within their own campaign because then it really puts Messina rock and a hard place, and all they can do is apologize fitting them, no one. Really cares. They can do anything they want. The like, I don't think I personally don't think Bernie Sanders needs to step down. But they've set their own precedent. This unlike alls, I want is a little bit of consistency here, and there's absolutely no consistency. When it comes to this type of thing. Absolutely not. And I think that anytime you have a big organization or a big campaign have a lot of staffers and a lot of young this kind of stuff is bound to happen. This doesn't shock me. That doesn't surprise me. Of course, any allegations that needs to be taken seriously. But for those that immediately called for everyone to step down and resign pulled their horses on that because it could really come back to bite them in the by Tommy Jason hammer here and staying on the subject of potential twenty twenty nominees from the left here. What was your take on? Elizabeth Warren's I'm connecting with the young people Instagram live video or grandma shot gunning. Some brew. Yeah. Well, you know, Elizabeth Warren I like to call her chief Elizabeth. Candidate me at all. Heard that she was launching her exploratory committee. You know, I thought it was really interesting that Elizabeth Warren we'll be exploring anything and as I said yesterday in my final thoughts. No word yet. If Lewis and Clark Welby joining. We're still awaiting those. Looking forward to the next stuff eight-foot live video, and my you know, I tuned in you know, what's funny is that for years. We heard the left say all the Republican party nothing, but stodgy old white guys and the first to name for talking about today, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, good Lord. This could be the next cast.

Somebody's gonna step up and hit somebody. Yeah. In Joe Pearl needs to do this. I think it should have actually been a late yet. Joe girl gave himself up was one full step out of bounds with his right foot. It wasn't much of a hit by Brandon more. But it was enough that quota of propelled the quarterback into the bench. And that's where people get hurt. But at the end of the day, you're right. It's about to get chip point. Point LSU acts like they should act like they need to be out here player. I intent UCF thirty nights. Snap to burrow. Handoff Edwards e Laremy stacked up all two on the plate of the forty one yard line. Second down and twelve coming up four fifty three to go. First quarter, PlayStation, fiesta, bowl, fourteen three UCLA. GB? I think the biggest advantage LSU has is upfront offense of wine big running backs running downhill, but right now LSU's offensive line is having trouble with what they call the landmarks. It's who to get and how to get there to get him and LSU is just not getting people had it up on that offensive line in the run game borough told us how important that run game would be on the first quarter second out snap. He unloaded to throw its tip that incomplete batted away by Clark who was riding Jefferson to the ground on a quick hitter from borough third at twelve once again, very. Little separation between the receiver running. Dig row, a Jefferson and and Clark. And that's what we've seen most of the time very little separation the passes that had been completed have been thrown in to narrow windows by Joe borough. Out face with a third down and twelve from the forty one at UCF territory. He deploys trips to the left. We're all out of the gun takes the staff. He dances back at three pressure. Coming pets. They're down at the forty eight yard lied. Kyle Gibson a safety with a sack for UCF. There are flags doubt on the play at the forty nine yard line. Let's play was over sportsmanlike conduct number fifty eight defense his first of the game fifteen yard penalty. I style. It's outta Randy Charlton the freshman out of Miami. And a first down LSU. Just a needless penalty was celebrating waving his arms in the air. And he draws the flag. Kyle gifts in.
