Fresh update on "laporte" discussed on Bill Handel

"It is a Saturday morning as we continue on 11 o'clock, it's Leo Laporte. Here on K. If I am a 6 40 live everywhere on the I heart radio AP 805 to 01534 is the number to call 805 to 01534. This is handle on the law. Marginal legal advice, Jake. Jake, Tell me your problem, and I will try to care. Go ahead. Yes, I was sitting in my car. It was on attaining street. Ah, cold effect that people should normally be going. The maximum Maybe 10 and 15. Miles an hour. Is that and this woman was coming? Probably about 45 50 and ah, almost blew my door. Ah! I was just getting out. But I saw her coming. So I was gonna pull the door back in. Had I done that? I will probably be an F U T right now. Yeah, I just screwed it over to the right a little bit. And I'm going. I haven't done any professional advice where most people are saying that it's going to be my fault and she's going to end. I'm gonna have to take for her door and my dog is okay though. Yeah. Here. Yeah, Here's the issue. She cannot hit you. Clearly. If she hits you of here parked and comes behind you and hits you. That's the basic rule. You're also not allowed to open a door in front of or in front of oncoming traffic. If you're parked in the side of the road, and a car is going past you You open the door in front of the car. You are at fault. However, the argument is going to be Hey, I opened the door. There was plenty of time she was speeding down the road. And then it becomes a, he said. She said, Now tell you what's probably going to happen. Jake is you're going to pay for your door you're going to pay for She's going to pay for her door. And with the important part is you have your insurance company. I make sure that you're not tagged with a at fault accident because that's that. That's what you don't want. But since there's no, there's no injury. It's no big deal. Have you had any other accidents in the last year or two? No. All right, Then I think you'll be okay because usually have one forgiveness. But you call your insurance company if she's files a claim against you if you got have you gotten a letter yet? A claim against you. Yes. Okay, turn it. Turn it. Turn over your insurance company. That's all. And okay, and they'll take a statement and you tell him what happened. She was speeding. I opened the door on that I looked back and she was coming so fast. I had to get out of the way and she tore my door off on its her fault. That's your argument, okay? Okay, Thanks. It's not simple. Okay, Tom. Hi, Tom. Welcome, Tio. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. What can I do for you? I had a traffic accident in my motor home. Ah, the driver did a U turn in front of me? No way to miss him. They're accepting responsibility for their insurance company, the estimate of the repairs like 13, some $1000. The value of the motorhome, which is 22 years old is only slightly more than that, and because it's within 90%. They want totaled out, Yeah, and the only the value of it and then I'm stuck with just about buying some use motor home, and I said, I want to get it fixed. If there's any extra cost, I'll pay for it. And they're willing to do that. But to do that, I have to agree not to sue the other driver for any other out of pocket that I'm stuck with. And they wantto have a registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles as a salvage, which means when I want to sell in the future, it's useless. Nothing right. So getting so just get get the money. You're right. So what happens is you got to get it repaired. It's gonna be a salvage vehicle, which means whatever value you think that motor vehicle will be worth, you can cut that in half. So you can get. You have to release liability, which you would, anyway. Eso if that's your only cost. I'm assuming there's no personal injury or any of that, so I wasn't okay. All right, so I That's not a big deal. Releasing a liability against the driver for anything else. You know what the damages are? The issue is salvage and are and if you're okay, If you're gonna drive this thing into the ground, it doesn't matter. If you're going to keep driving it for years were effectively become scrap anyway or close to scrap. Who cares? You're not going to get hurt if you plan on selling it and the next couple of years Or in three years. You're going to sell it for Nada because it's salvage your call it but they said they could do it. So what's your question? Do I have Ah, case that I don't want to get a list of salvage, because no, no, no, That's totally operation, right? I once had a car that was perfectly operation. It was salvaged and it I got nothing for it. No, those air their terms. Right there. You are changing their terms. They said. We have the right to either pay you the value or weaken. Totally. And you're saying tell you what, Give me them, and they decided to totally. So you're saying Let's change that. I'll pay you Give me the money of value Whatever extra I'll pay and don't salvage it. They're saying no. You're changing the deal, and we're saying Ah, no. I mean, that's the way it works. Now, let me tell you about Norton 3 60. If you've really recently gotten a device, a new device you're no doubt leaving your personal information on it Exposed to criminal cyber criminals. Your.

FCC Tweaks CableCard Rules

"This is probably pretty inside baseball, but I know some of you like me. use a cable card at that is capable card. This is the thing the FCC used used to require. the cable companies offer you so you could use your own instead of having to use the cable companies boxer. DVR, the cable card was really Kinda neat idea. It was a credit card device for people old-timers Internet and technology people going back a ways you would recognize it as what we used to call. A P. C.. M. C. I. A. Card P. C. M. C. I. A.. Yeah that that card, there was a credit card but had electrtonics in it. And the idea was it was kind of like nowadays, you could do it with the SIM card truthfully. But this was an old technology around a long time. Nowadays you can do is assume card but in the old days, the cable companies still seems to be living in the old days. They they would make this. MCI Card that you could I left at an end deny PCMCIA. Lot. Letters card. That you would put. In a device, like Tito, for instance, and it would make it the cable box. So you didn't have to use the junky cable walks the cable company provided and you'd read it from them. They're making money on a couple of bucks five bucks something like that. FCC. Has. Just ruled. put a little ruling didn't didn't really pay any. You. Know didn't make a big deal about it and didn't it didn't get a lot of attention. because I think it's a small market. But thank goodness for David Zach. That's Absu. That's not funny. Dot Com. Because if it weren't for him, I might not even be be aware of this. But I use I have three cable cards my house three tvos three cable carts. The FCC has in effect said. We are eliminating a proceeding in which we saw comment on the adoption of new regulations for navigation devices. The FCC calls him devices consumers used to access video programming, and other services offered over multichannel video programming networks, cable networks. and WHO's important part eliminate outdated cable cards, support, and reporting requirements. FCC's Adele worry the market will keep the cable car to live I don't know. According to the FCC. There are half a million cable cards in circulation and they drop every year about ten percent. People aren't using them anymore. You know why? not, because everybody's saying, Oh, I gotta use that comcast box or that Cox box the spectrum by now. Because people are saying, I, just needed her neck. Give Me Internet. I'm I'm I'm curious what you think yesterday Dick Debartolo and I were talking about predictions. We. Had a read back my prediction from two thousand nine, which are wildly inaccurate. But I'M GONNA make. Another prediction maybe possibly wildly inaccurate. I don't think it's could take ten years maybe it'll take five. But more and more of us are going to start getting our our content over the top. You know through the Internet not through the Cable Company and that really in the long run, it might make more sense. For eliminating cable cards just eliminate cable. Not What the cable company wants, but I think that maybe the unintended consequences, this just eliminate the cable. and go over the Internet. Of course, I think most cable companies realized that's the future and are starting to offer more and more on demand stuff over the Internet, and of course, certainly, the content companies no, that's the future. That's why all of a sudden there's HBO Max and Peacock. And Disney plus an apple. TV. Plus these are all over the top. Streaming networks where you you pay a fee, a monthly fee ranging from five to fifteen dollars a month who lose another one, and you get your TV from the Internet, and now you can subscribe to Youtube TV. which. Is really a cable company, but it's just over the Internet fifty five bucks you get your local channels. You get a basic cable package for fifty five bucks over the Internet. How long this is the question I'm posing how long? Before cable companies just become Internet companies. I think that's I think that's happening very rapidly and this getting rid of the cable card is kind of a way of of saying that it's bad for not though. I feel bad for. Tiba owners who have the cable version, the cable variant. But. As you can see, it's not very many anymore. Not. Very many anymore. So the rest of us will either go to you know the the cable provided box which my in my case and I would say suspect many cases is not as good as Tibo offers. Or? We'll just go with a over the top service Youtube TV. It has built in Dvr. You can have six different users can have each have their own. Recording and it's easy. You just press plus on a show and it'll record the show forever. It's got no. I don't maybe there are limits, but it doesn't seem to have any limits on what you can record I. Think it's very easy simple not as there are some things missing. Tibo you can skip commercials I like that they. Put Press. The button boom to just jumps right over the commercial I like that. It's in fact to scrub through shows or move back and forth on a Tivo with a remote than it is on the youtube APP but you know we can live with that. WILL IT BE CHEAPER No No No. I don't think. So there are right now freeways there's a an APP maybe you've seen it called low caste. CAS. Lets you. Watch TV, your local channels free. They're getting away with this, but somehow they are. So there are people help always right enemy say you can. It's cheaper you can get. Pluto. Or other inexpensive solutions, ad-supported solutions and that that's probably the case that'll probably live live on.

S. P. there's a lot of factors that go into internet latency at all it really is is you know there's switches it's going out you know it's not merely the distances traveling because it travels at the speed of light it's all the other stuff in the way and of course a you know as a musician even a fifth of a second or even have a second throws it off the Jamul is his knife nice but it's kind of it looks like it has a central server the server but we all have a like I've got my own insurance group were we trying to be sure we can handle up this week right lotion sort of war three of us that would work better sure yeah yeah and we do that and that sometimes works you know depending on all the other conditions genderless is nice because it's open source and it's free there are commercial services that do this as well and you might wanna look at jammer J. am am are checked out you too many great reviews on it yeah this is a you know if this is a hard thing to do and you know people think you could do it because there's all these great YouTube videos and tick tock videos stuff where it's all sync it up you see the cast the Hamilton all singing together they're probably doing it individually absolutely later on they're doing a click track they sent a click track to everybody they recorded individually and then they sink it after the fact you can't do it live rest right airy difficult yeah yeah so that that was my question so you're saying that the what you were talking to Chris you're on Skype which didn't seem like there was much where we're now closed please in Germany that's what I figured out he's not close by yeah and that in some way you don't have to say we have so my podcast network we use Skype for everything we've tried everything and Skype seems to be for our purposes I'm not even looking at latency as much because there is latency but I'm looking more for quality and Skype doesn't really get the best on Skype apps it is March I thank Geoffrey Fowler The Washington Post just tried a bunch of video conferencing tools and Skype came in number one there too so that kind of confirmed it but latency has more to do with the kind of network the amount of bandwidth and I've noticed that you would think it is about distance but I've noticed that when we get callers from Scandinavia Germany they almost always have better connections not been able to see someone United Kingdom see more okay because we have the crappy used internet in the world here in America the place it invented the damn thing you know it's just it's because there's a lot of reasons but yeah it's weird but often I get better call quality for people not in the U. S. yeah I know and I've got a really fast internet speed I got spotted grant you permission the other buddies of mine will have pretty good internet has not merely speed latency is is related to speed but really it's more about G. something called jitter and ping times latency and at the end yeah yeah so I you know if if you try jamming unless you've tried jammer there are few other services but if they don't work well for you I don't know what's going to work well for an evening people want to do in life whether for rehearsal or two later formalized yeah it's really really hard to do somebody in the chat room is is recommending clean feed I don't know what this is Colleen that's another one here that works don't use the actually website clean he got really right yeah yeah live audio and high definition with anyone in the world the idea is if they have a centralized website some of this has to do with how good the backbone is because most of the time in transit is spent on the backbone and then the last mile if the last miles bad then it doesn't matter so there's all these things involved in this I'm sorry to say what what music what kind of music I'm older I like you know we love my music stop with the Beatles sounds good to me can't complain about that is it just for fun or is it a professional manner well actually we used to we used to play together like fifty years ago we still get together every now and then replace it spot is is so bad that it's jarring or it's just not ideal each one when you try to look at the video it is jarring a little bit cannot charge you each so we're doing our champion this week we've got it down where it's pretty good what we find as we start for some reason it starts everyone starts he gets slower when it starts running slow pretty good and it was sort of trying to play catch up with everybody yeah it gets out of sync in other words over time yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah that's a I wish I knew a good answer to this we've recommended all you know all of these solutions in the past to people but I'm sorry to hear doesn't work all that well yeah yeah well I'd say I've been a long list of outlook word a lot so thank you very much Hey it's my pleasure by Liz but when I got on the iPhone yes please the only thing more than like three hundred down like I've got to get up and down on my server by zero yeah shares of the speech online forms okay you know that's a really good question because I've never been on the think that fast the whole what I don't get it on there are there are limits to the radio and I would bet in the phone they're not they're not building anymore yeah but I know that's a really good question how fast can you go got your presume you're on wifi yeah well a lot of fun yes are you you're not using the cellular system yeah I you know I in theory we're on a ten gigabit network here I I I doubt I'm all run a speed test right now but I doubt it's going to be faster than maybe a hundred megabits or so I just think that's what you're right I think it's a limitation of the year of the wifi built into the far away but let me see all the way up to three hundred seven maybe three hundred is the limit hello yeah maybe that's the limit three hundred seven down I was able to locate each circle we don't I think there may be just you know yeah three ended six up at three and seven down I bet you that's the limit yeah well this is a gigabit why well actually that maybe the wife I remember I don't actually know if that's what it is it's the wifi itself if you got a wifi six router might not Esther what did you say the topic on the white line on the universe they only go about three oh Christian so I'm that's right that's right that's probably a newer newer newer routers might be a little bit faster but you know who.

"Pleasure. Thank thank you for your inspiration. Thank you Leo. LaPorte the tech guy more calls right after this so I downloaded fast here. Oh good just just a brief little look look more mechanic for a long time But this one is so fast and they claim yeah they claim they really do a good judge Roy conversion and there are a lot of single keystroke things like I love it. If you tap J you can see the J. Peg rendering during There's a lot of if you look in the settings there's a lot of single keystroke you could see what the you know learn entirely. No no because all I use it now all I do three or four so they they copied that from him. Yeah good if you if if you go to a command K.. You can see that you could change every keystroke too but there's though I do use that JP 'cause sometimes I wanna see for instance the raw rendering sometimes as weird. So if I hit J. I could see what the J. Peg rendering looked like and that was and that's usually more like what the picture is. So sometimes I just use the J.. Peggy duggan ditch. Yeah exactly yeah They're not I don't know what raw engine they use. I don't think I don't know I don't know what they're doing. I mean with that speed I would think they use use their own. They have their individual cameras aboard. That's different from the other so I would think they have written their own. And I. You know it's a problem with sixty one mega pixel raw files. They must they must they must Look at the screen resolution and just use part of that data. The I don't know what the optimized ads yeah. Yeah but that's the ideas. I can quickly pick go through. I used to use mechanic for this but this is a little bit faster. So that's what it feels like it. Yeah I think fundamentally so that's maybe.

"Leo laporte. Is it dole Ston or doylestown doylestown doylestown? I gotta right. I don. Hi. What can I do computer on the internet? It just has a database on it. Okay. Run run in windows ninety eight. Oh, my and those were the days. Yep. Is my dad had this computer? A lot information on it, which I need to get off of it. I shut the computer down pressing than normal shutdown mode. Didn't go all the way off. So I I just shut the power off. Okay. And when I started back up it starts to start up. And then I get a message. It says replace the disk and press any key. Oh, boy that doesn't help doesn't do anything though. Of course. Not. So it's older hard-drive eventually wears at all hard drives. We're out if they have spinning media, actually, I think it's safe as they all hard drives where out eventually the problem is you don't know win. It could be a month. It could be a year. It could be ten years. It could be one hundred years. You just don't know when it's gonna wear out. Sounds like yours might have hit its life span doesn't mean all the date is gone though. And you want that date? I understand what you said it's a database is a database program that he was using. Or is it just? To a file with a lot of data. That's a program. It's called Q and A. Okay. Yeah. I don't queue a so now I can when I started up I can cross F one. Yeah. The bios I o setup utility. Yeah. But I don't know what to do when I get there. Nothing. Your hard drive. Is you know that that's not on the drive. That's in a non volatile memory. It's called the firmware the computer. So you can get that far. But you can't get windows to boot up and that probably now, here's the there's a variety of things that could be wrong. The hard drive could be completely dead that A database gone all of that. Or let's say it's not let's hope it's not you didn't make a backup. Did you have this vital database? Did you know not really? Okay. All right. Real old. Yeah. Yeah. That was so so but with any luck it did what most drives do most drive just blown die. Most Dr start to fail over time..

"Leo LaPorte detect. Leone excited, you're taking my call. Thank you. My pleasure. Thanks for calling. I've been wanting to talk to you for a while. I have a small private hobby where I collect landscape photos, and I would really like find a way to my television as my digital frame. Oh, how nice 'cause digital frames are usually kinda small, and yeah, let's have it on the big screen. But I don't know how to do that, you know. It's funny because almost all now these internet connected TV devices, like the Roku in the apple TV have screensavers that are often landscapes apple TV has a beautiful. Slow motion landscapes. So they're moving because they're screensavers on a TV yesterday. Yeah. Location that I figured it was probably built into the television comes with the apple TV. It's awesome. So that would be one way to do. It is to get one of these devices all of them have a photo capability. So for instance, the apple TV, if you use a MacIntosh, you'd upload your landscape pictures to your you put them on your apple photos, and you could actually have have a particular folder. Let's call it my special landscape collection, and you'd say to your apple TV. That's my screensaver. How does it get from my? I know through the through cloud is through the internet. And that's the whole point is that you are now. Now, this is not the only way to do it. I'm gonna tell you some other ways, but that's one way to do it. And the advantage of that is you can update it without having to do anything. He just put new photos in the folder on your computer. And the way it works is you've you using the I cloud photo library. So apple the MAC is uploading all your photos to cloud. It's it's cloud storage. Yeah. Apple TV. It's called the apple TV. And so the idea is that this is one way I'm gonna finish until you some other ways. But it's because this guy cost you money because apple TVs a couple hundred bucks. But then the apple TV, let you watch movies and TV, and and other stuff, you know, it's the idea is it it makes an internet connected TV. So you connect the apple TV to the internet. Now. You TV's connected. The apple TV, and you've added internet capability to your TV many TV's already have this does your TV have net. Flicks on do. Yeah. I do watch. We we can get on YouTube videos on it. Okay. So it does already have internet. You might investigate. If your television look in the menu and see what apps it offers. It might already have a photo app in which case you'd have to just figure out how to get photos to that photo app. Lots of TV's have slots for photo cards for ST cards. So that'd be another way to do it requiring..

"Leo LaPorte tech. Mark halio not a question Tell me. Something and here's, why, I wanted, to, tell me that wonderful pixel She, has the service contract so they'll replace it so it's gonna Tomorrow Clearly old up and he noticed she had a screen protector on Piece of plastic Also noticed. There's a screen so I was wondering there's a crappy Actors Yeah Touch. We I don't actually use screen protectors because the problem with any screen is, that's class and I don't care if it's, gorilla glass three or what the very nature. Of glasses if you strike it with a, sharp object it. Will crack so every, phone cracks I don't care whether you put a screen protector on. Or not the screen protector might help, with scratches like, if you if you tend to, scratch it the screen protector, get scratched not the glass you could pull. It off put another one on if she's prone, to. That maybe but I don't use screen protectors because they get in. The way so modern screens are what we. Call capacity, they actually you know the. Old screens it was how hard. You press there was pressure, in there but modern screens just use the flow. Of trinity that's why you can't use them with. Gloves on you have to have something moist watch your finger or I. Don't know a sausage would work one of those, string cheese things that would work because basically the capacity of touch made a electrical sensitive substrate Alexi electrostatic aesthetic grid.
