Afghanistan War: What Do Veterans Think About the Withdrawal?

"Americans served in the war. Nearly 2500 service members lost their lives. James Laporta is a former Marine infantry rifleman who first arrived in Afghanistan in 2000 and nine while on patrol. He would sometimes take videos of what was happening. This is a typical day in Afghanistan. It's about 110 degrees outside, but as soon as you walk into the fields, the fields are irrigated and So they're incredibly humid. It's almost like someone turns up the temperature, so when you start to walk to those fields, it's almost like someone's taking a breath away. Doing two tours of duty, James held many jobs, including infantry Squad leader and working in intelligence. Today. He is an investigative reporter for The Associated Press, James Thanks for joining me, Thanks for having me. So how long had you been in the Marine Corps before you got sent to Afghanistan? It was about three years. At that point. I come in in the summer of 2000 and six basically, 10 days after high school, I showed up to boot camp. Was being in the Marine Corps at that point, like what you thought it would be when you were in high school, dreaming about joining No. Hi. I was in jail ROTC in high school, which is junior reserve Officer Training Corps, which was a lot of fun. And you know when you wear uniforms and you march around, and I was sort of naive, you know, when I joined in 2000 and six, the focus was still on Iraq. Still looking for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, so Afghanistan was sort of an afterthought. When you first got deployed to Afghanistan, were you excited? Did did you want to go? I volunteered. Yeah, I was with the second Marine Regiment. And second Italian eighth Marines. The battalion that I became a part of they didn't have enough personnel to go to Afghanistan, so they came over to second Marine Regiment asking Marines. Does anybody want to jump on a deployment? And I had not been to Afghanistan. So I

"I'll go yeah i'll do. This is this. I just how this house last segment you could tell. Leanest is gonna play this me. He's back i don't know if he's he's back because if so that's my that's i think that's fair. Alex cuts in. He's he's after. I think we can all agree after what we saw. Last season within a year is fantastic. And i'm very excited for him like it. Good call good. Call area tommy you. Es as much as i would like to give it to myself for this episode. I'm giving where the kid who ran on to the field of the fc cincinnati eight year. Old mugger success we ran onto the field picked up the kid and brought him back to their seats without any stock which of clay or were coming over even fell. She picked him up just fell. Or how how. Many bob said she and her in or you know husband parter had like how did they let a two year old. Just jump climb over the fence like that. I wasn't watching. I just didn't really. I watched the video and looked more like a railing and the go under snuck. The wonder front seats. It just wasn't much. It has some good pickup ago yet. Move yeah that was awesome because the play was just going down to the other end of like nobody in the mississippi but yeah that was that was quite a quite a little clip. Mikey The king is back and he's better than ever and i love him now. I am the world's biggest josie marino manager of romance see fan. That's ever lived the fact that he didn't bring a trophy spurs and now is back to its bullshit makes me love him and i don't know if you watch the bettys friendly which i did on saturday. They went down to not ten not nine but eight men and and him and his assistant were sent off. He walked right behind the bench vancouver and sat down four behind his bench. They went down to eight men and they played with seven outfield players for the last twenty five minutes in a five two loss to bet this. It was to put it lightly hysterical. Like the most fun i've had. It might have been a match. The i might have watched my favorite game of the year last saturday but josie marino. I will be following that roma team intently for the remainder of the season. I am all back on board. I love josie marino now with firs. He did nothing but go well. That was always nervous. You were going to have a trophy. And that i wouldn't say that you've gone five thousand years trophy but now he's come and gone. You didn't win anything. So i'm fucking back in love with him again. Well god bless roma for bringing him back so quickly. So we're gonna have to go. Not this eight nine and a friendly finishing eight men and he got a red card. Just a mini tried to fight. The refugee walked out all the way halfway. A just an unbelievable hull the guy. I love him more. Roma tell you that much But i still love the guy Good call outs all. I'm going to go. With the joanne. Laporta president of barcelona who came in promising the world the moon and stars and to bring messy back and it was incredibly clear once the all. The full details became apparent that he brought nothing to the table. He did absolutely nothing and he didn't even come close to really messy back just a quite a snake it till you make it move on his part while done to to him and now. He's going to oversee. Barcelona and god knows where they had. If i was in barcelona fan i would be scared shitless right now. I will say that i don't feel too bad for them because they were trophies than you know than my club has ever won in its hidden existence just a couple of years but it is not a good time. We barcelona joined the porta is my goya annette's it. We got the english premier league. Starting on friday saturday morning early sunday morning early. It is back off feels so good. "Do that job. I'm i'm just saying that people shouldn't you know. Jump to to conclusions yet. I i still think. It's gonna be fascinating. The on as much as i hit this project. I can't wait for the book that's gonna promoted. Yeah the ex g philosophy. Jj they tweeted the expected goals per ninety minutes last season for messy. It was point eight. Two neymars was point. Eight four and bought they was point. Eight seven so the x g per ninety minutes was two and a half goals per game. We're talking. We're sitting here talking about like i don't know if they're gonna be able to defend well if they're tina scoring three goals like at least on a nightly basis like how much i don't know how much defending or you're going to have to do all of a sudden all of a sudden mass. He's going to be on a team. Because i i know. I'm not not obviously speaking for everyone. In the in the you know the spanish speaking world because i knew it's not the case that there's a lot of rail madrid finds out there fans of other teams too. I understand that. But where i come from a was such a joy to watch messy that you you root for barcelona unless they were against your team you root for them always and now he's going to be on a team who are the debt star. They are the bags and it's going to be It's gonna be fun to root against them. So keep your eyes open for the The interview that we're going to have coming up probably early next week. I would say most likely tuesday. You'll see that. Come out. With simon cooper the author of this book about messy in barcelona. I can't wait this. I have so many questions. It because again the big thing the biggest question that i have for him that you and i can't answer. We can only speculate on is i. Just keep wondering. Jj if barcelona if joan laporta if if he knew all along because you hear these stats about even if messy had volunteered to play the season for free they still would not have been able to do it within the parameters of lolitas rules and it wasn't even close and so like i know barcelona and laporta were saying that you know what we just got back our financial audit. We don't we didn't know until now bs there's just no way. The numbers are not close. Enough where you couldn't have possibly known until hours before messy was supposed to sign this deal. This felt to me like they to me. I'm saying my conspiracy theory. They always knew they always knew that this relationship wasn't gonna continue but they were trying to save face. Remember laporta basically won this election by we always said a vote for laporta was vote for messy to remain at the club so he got into office on that. I think he knew we can't do this. But i can't i can't make it look like i'm the one who's forcing him out now. After saying that. I want him to stay so i think that this was the way that they went about it. That is my opinion. I can't wait to ask simon if what he thinks if if barcelona always knew that this relationship was going to have to end and they just didn't know how to manage it andrew going to stop you there. I could talk forever about that. That particular wrinkle. You're in in this amazing story You're onto something there but we will save it. We all know otherwise. Who's gonna talk about. Brentford you really have a way of transition. Your master of the transition. I'll tell you what. I'm not even going to attempt a transition from this into brentford or whatever. So let's go ahead. Let's take a quick break. We'll we'll gather ourselves. We'll take off our messy jerseys. We'll come back. We'll put on our brentford kits full kit f. k. w. brentford. We'll come back and we'll begin our two thousand twenty one twenty two. Epl preview there. Some things in life that. I like to pick out myself so i know i've got the one. That's best for me. Like cuts of steak mattresses bottles of wine. Well what if you could do the same for hiring chooser ideal candidate before they even apply. That's where ziprecruiter's invite to apply comes in. "With cooper about that before we get off of this and move to the epl preview. Which i know is why most of you are here. Although i'm guessing all of you who loved the sport are interested in this topic on messy. This is unbelievable what we've been watching Real quick on. Ps g So now we're looking at a team that has messy imbaba neymar as a front three They've brought in. I mean and the fact that they've done all this business on free transfers with ramos and messy and wynalda Who there was. There's somebody else do that. I'm forgetting But at any rate this team is insane. And i've i've kind of heard the narrative put out there. Yeah donald trump that's right there goalkeeper. Who won the tournament the euros. I mean my god. It's madness And so like. I will say credit to ps g. Yeah they gotta pay all this money in wages but they've done a lot on free transfers so You know at least they're keeping their spending in check somewhat in that way the thing i've heard now with regards to the upcoming season and moreover so with champions league is that this champions league now almost feels like a foregone conclusion. I would caution people to pump the brakes on that. I don't feel that way. I'm not saying the. Ps g won't be great and they would probably be my probably. They will be my favorite to win it but a front three. Let me ask you right now. Front three of of messy at thirty four Imbaba and neymar imbaba at the beginning of his prime name. All right in the middle of it is that a more intimidating front three. Then the messi neymar suarez front three at barcelona. And then i mean every year and that team had any esta and other greats. And i'm psg do to but it wasn't a foregone conclusion necessarily that that bar team was gonna win every year saw. I'm not willing to say that. This is any kind of foregone conclusion whatsoever. No and sport has a way of of humbling. The mighty and i think it was only a couple of weeks ago. We were talking about the business. That ps were doing signing donna room by the way signing sergio ram also will now be a teammate of lena. Messy yeah unbelievable but We we talked about this team. And you know. I'm not fully convinced about them. Defensively as good as martinez says as experienced as roma's Compound not convinced by you know. There's there's ways to get them and also you might have to get them because look at their record of the last few seasons. Maybe the changes this season but neymars never be one hundred percent fit for them when it came to the business. End of the champions league on imbaba struggled with injury last season two so i would tend to are on the side of caution before i go pilot money on with them. Yeah and there's a lot of players that are gonna be on this team. The back three that you mentioned martinez compan- day rama's i actually do think highly of those players. But we all know that in this sport. Defending is a team concept. It doesn't necessarily just fall to those players at the back. So i just wonder okay. They've put together outrageously talented. You know all time. Great attack-minded team but do they have players. That will buy into any kind of team concept when it comes to defending having to track back. I don't know so like back. Might be very good. But i just wonder is like like could any back three without help from other parts of the field be able to withstand that. Yeah i know. But i'm gonna correct course at a bit on this like someone like variety is top quality professional and. I don't think you could question him. In that. regard there They've got other midfielders as well. That will do that job. I'm i'm just saying that people shouldn't you know. Jump to to conclusions yet. I i still think. It's gonna be fascinating. The on as much as i hit this project. I can't wait for the book that's gonna promoted. Yeah the ex g philosophy. "But that's where my end at jammer. If this was a moment that surprise lionel messi which we did see obviously. It wasn't anything that he expected when he arrived to the offices that day. How did it go down in barcelona with all the boss a funds. Nobody was expecting this. Were they know que. No one was expecting that funds. Everyone was kind of prepared last year because a player who wanted to leave but one year later he wants to say that club wants him to stay and it didn't happen so it chocking it surprising i agree with. Gabby there are many things that still we don't know and a part of that. Of course award has starved. It starter four months ago with that. These are combination of less super league but definitely 'bout celena not taking money and leaving sacrificing his beloved captain layer massive means. They will try to go for that. So we have a new war of football with that super liga project so you rightfully asked a lot of questions last time around urban your article last week before we'd heard from john laporta in his press conference before we'd heard from lionel messi now after everything that has gone down. Do you believe that this is. It's over between the two parties. But i'm not going to believe it on jill. Leonor massey's unveiled as man player. I think this whole situation is so illogical so absurd all happen before which from the audit that but then they weren't short and the audit turned out to be worse than expected to them. Can meeting all these bums. I mean make community about on this formula as it can get something brian about fifty million dollars which is roughly messy would have cost. I don't know what kind of business are they running when you do that. But for you have the audit i to me just too many questions. i think. Part of something bigger something that the part is doing for whatever reason and turkey into it's in the best interests of the club plus i can only assume that you know. Even now this is part of a bigger story perhaps being probably melita possibly involving around the the super league as well And i think there's gonna be more stuff to come out because too many people but to connecticut have come out and said this is wrong resignations. We've had as i mentioned before you know. Somebody like john. Otis saying you know i. I know that the contract was ready and was approved by the league up until a few games ago. So it just resorting me. It's this is a power play between join the potter and heavier tie bus. Doesn't everybody lose. If messy leaves of course on the one hand laporta was down in infamy as as the president who allowed messy to to leave the camp. No i'm not under macy's message. Tombs fatigue us. of course. this is a strike against the league league at loss. Christiano renaldo couple years ago no you lose lose messy to the best players of this generation and it detracts from the league as as a spectacle as as something that draws spectators to it regardless of of support and and. That's that's a difficult to swallow as well but until says defense if he's strict with the rules and is not being flexible. I don't have an issue with that on laporta a going on in infamy but it's a situation is not a tall of his making. Yes yes answer for the four signings that he still coming register but being in this position at a club in this much debt on the salaries out they have committed as not been his making. Maybe estimated it but now we have this rather ridiculous situation that it seems only french football benefits from but temperatures got problem here because has once will be hall a. He bought tracts on financial shenanigans at barcelona..

Tim Cook's Bad Day in Epic vs Apple

"All about the apple versus epic trial epic versus apple. It's i i was safe backwards. Epic versus apple epics the planet literally the testimony portion of the trial wrapped up minutes ago from you and i are talking. There is sort of fake version of closing arguments on monday where both layers are. Just gonna get asked questions. Bu the judge from what. I understand which is probably going to be way more fun than normal closing arguments probably way more fun also the term. Everyone is using for that. Closing argument is a hot tub ing which is very funny. Laporta will be in the courtroom for the hot tub ing but the actual testimony all the witnesses on the stand all the presentations of evidence wrapped up today. This week saw phil schiller craig. Federici tim cook on the stand. There's a lot to talk about their but wish to start with what just happened. Because the absolute end of the testimony portion of the trial with tim cook on the stand was fireworks. It just went sideways. There was very boring for a week. Lots of experts that we're not even talking about because they were so boring and then the judge kind of just in the tim cook. What happened at he. Yeah so you. A judge yvonne gonzalez rogers who is gonna be writing the opinion on the case and who occasionally interjects with some usually pretty interesting but very short questions. They more or less finished examining tim cook. And then judge rogers two steps in with a question and she's like okay. Well it seems like most of the revenue in the app store comes from games. So what's wrong with telling people that they can go and making purchases elsewhere. And then that just kicks off this ten minute long discussion where she and tim cook this like surprisingly testy exchange over whether it makes sense that once apple put like once a developer put something in the store apple brings enough value that it should get a cut of like whatever happens in that out forever. Yeah and to me. This is kind of the central question at the heart of this. Trial is who is in control of your phone in apple's answer kind of nakedly. Throughout his win we are in control of your phone

Michigan State will kick off Charlie Jones back there in the deep spot, and we knew he would be with a mere Smith gone and the kick is up. Through the endzone. Matt Coughlin has a strong leg. He's a redshirt senior from Cincinnati, Ohio. And of course, if you're a great football player out of Cincinnati High School, you probably attended Archbishop Moeller High School, and he did. So it comes out to the 25 in the Hawks. Spencer Petrus will be looking into the sun, but his receivers will be looking back at him. Trump reportedly called service members "losers" and "suckers"

"Again in the Atlantic and it sets the scene all the way back in two thousand eighteen when trump was in. Paris he was supposed to visit a cemetery for soldiers who died in war and if you'll remember he didn't actually end up going because he said the helicopter couldn't fly because it was raining. And there was a big deal about that obviously because he was afraid of a little rain. He also tried to claim that the secret service wouldn't drive but Jeffrey Goldberg says neither claim was true. In reality he says trump rejected the idea of visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain and because he did not believe it was important honor American war dead in that is according to four people with firsthand knowledge of discussion that day. He goes on to say in a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit. Trump said quote why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers. It continues in a separate conversation on the same trip trump referred to more than eighteen hundred marines who lost their lives at Bellawood as quote suckers for getting killed. Bellawood was apparently consequential battle in American history I don't remember it off the top of my head, but I'm just reading what's in the article here. And it says that in that same trip talking about world war. One trump asked who are the good guys in this war? He also said that he didn't understand why the United States would intervene on the side of the allies. Now you'll remember he said this about John McCain back in two thousand fifteen but lost. So I, never liked him as much after that because I don't like interest. But but Frank Franklin. We get to He. He's war hero. He's a war. He's a war hero presumes capture. I like people that weren't captured. Okay. I hate to. The article says that trump had remained fixated on McCain in that when he died back in August twenty, eighteen trump told his senior staff this time according to three sources with direct knowledge of quote we going to support that losers funeral end quote and that he became furious when he saw flags lowered to half-staff saying quote what the F. Are we doing that for guy was a f Ing Loser The White House denies this whole report by the way saying, then the Anti Yadda trump's supported the military more than any president. The article continues according to sources with knowledge of the president's views. He seems to genuinely not understand why Americans treat former prisoners of war with respect. Nor does he understand why pilots who are shot down in combat are honored by the military on at least two occasions since becoming president according to three sources with direct knowledge of his views trump referred to former president George h.w Bush as a quote loser for being shot down by the Japanese. This is where it starts to really get cruel on memorial day twenty, seventeen trump went with then department of Homeland Security Secretary John, Kelly to Arlington Cemetery. The article says the two men were set to visit section sixty, the fourteen acre area of the cemetery that it is burial ground for those killed in America's most recent wars. Kelly son Robert is buried in section sixty according to sources with knowledge of this visit trump while standing by Robert Kelly's grave turned directly to John Kelly in said quote I don't get it what was in it for them. Kelly said he originally thought trump was making a ham handed reference to these selflessness of America's all volunteer force. But later he came to realize that trump simply does not understand non transactional life choices. This is coming from one of Kelly's friends who Goldberg says a retired four. Star General. This friend says quote he can't fathom the idea of doing something for someone other than himself. He just thinks that anyone who does anything when there's no direct personal gain to be had is a sucker. There's no money in serving the nation trump can't imagine anyone else's pain. That's why he would say this to the father of a fallen marine on Memorial Day in the cemetery where he's buried. It goes on to talk about how trump is basically used the military as props how he thinks they answer only to not the constitution as evidenced by his gassing of peaceful protesters in officer who had firsthand knowledge of trump's views says quote. He has a lot of fear. He doesn't see the heroism in fighting and then Goldberg says several observers told me that trump is deeply anxious about dying or being disfigured in this worry manifests itself as disgust for those who have suffered. Than it tells another story about how trump falsely claimed he called quote virtually all of the family members of service members who had died during his term, and then when family started speaking out and saying, no, you didn't trump had to begin rush shipping condolences to those families. Felt last paragraph ends on, which is actually pretty profound. I didn't expect you know something. So big to be saved for the end I thought would be the author's own thoughts but it says in a twenty eighteen White House planning meeting for such an event trump asked to staff not to include wounded veterans on grounds that spectators would feel uncomfortable in the presence of amputees quote nobody wants to see that end quote. I think to me the details really do add credibility and he says he's talking to three or four sources all the time. But it got really interesting here when the Associated Press confirmed his sources essentially this tweet from James Laporta an investigative reporter former marine infantryman. Now, obviously, with the Associated Press, the port a tweeted out yesterday a senior Defense Department official I just spoke with confirmed this story by Jeffrey. Goldberg in its entirety especially the graphs about late senator, John McCain and former Marine General John Kelly president. Donald Trump's former chief of staff. So before that, you had people trying to push out, wouldn't say this. Of course, he didn't say this this is false. Trump. Himself devoted three tweets to claiming that was just a hoax made up by the media who are hungry to You know and his political career. But yeah, that was definitely a big shock when she came out in essentially confirmed most of the story. Republicans are doing their usual remaining silent or denying that it's still true. and. I just don't know how you could say it's not true. He said this in public but. I never liked him as much after that because I don't like. It was right out there and this other tweet from just some random twitter account but it made me think the commander in chief was found guilty stealing money from kids. Cancer charity mocks disabled reporters, gases, protesters for photo ops over twenty thousand lies kills one hundred, ninety, thousand Americans violate civil rights, incites violence calls, fallen soldiers, losers, and suckers. Yeah I guess if you put it against everything, we know about trump name calling certainly seems to be in his wheelhouse. Mentioned surprised that this came to be a big story

"We're getting continued reaction tonight to this reporting of the Atlantic tonight from Jeffrey. Goldberg their pieces titled Trump Americans who died in war are losers and suckers Gobert rece-. Citing several anecdotes with multiple sources for each of them which the president is. said to have derided US service members who have died in combat as losers and suckers. And who has expressed who expressed even standing over the grave of John Kelly son who died in Afghanistan at age twenty, nine that he doesn't get why Americans would choose to serve in the military. The Associated Press has just posted James Portas new piece as well confirming. The core reporting Jeffrey Goldberg's piece tonight in the Atlantic Laporta, confirming it again with multiple sources just Goldberg has but I want to tell you we've just had response from Vice President Joe Biden with a statement in response. Quote if the revelations in today's Atlantic article or true there yet another marker of how deeply president trump and I disagree about the role of the president of the United States I've Long said that the nation we have many obligations but we have only one truly sacred obligation to prepare those we send into harm's way and to care for them and their families both while they're deployed and After they return home. That's the foundation of what Jilin I believe. That's why we've always prioritized the health and wellbeing of our service members, veterans, and military families. We have visited troops coming home wounded, and Walter Reed we've hosted wounded veterans in our home to share Thanksgiving meal and it's the proud parents of a son who served in Iraq. We've made supporting military spouses, caregivers and children are focus. Of Our service generations of American troops have shed blood around the world and defensive our freedoms and to protect vital interests from the frontlines of our own revolution to Bellawood to the Normandy beaches to the mountains of Afghanistan, the sacrifice and bravery of our troops and their willingness to serve our nation should be honored duty honor country. Those are the values that drive our servicemembers. Those are the values. That, have formed the core of America's defense for centuries in. "Not only did the media run with and treat the story. As fact all sorts of commentators immediately jumped on. The proof that we have that we live at a racist society. You now have white people just driving down the road gutting down children because they're black. That was the narrative that was just bought. Now, again, I'm not saying I saw through it because I didn't really give it much thought. But. That narrative never really made any said stated. There's been an arrest made in the murder of jasmine Barnes. And there are no white people involved in this at all. A twenty year old man named Eric black junior has admitted his involvement saying that he was in a car with another guy. It was a mckay's of mistaken identity. They thought it was somebody that they had a run in with earlier that they are out there looking for and they shot into the wrong car. Kind of crap that goes on all the time. With people that just put the guns ablaze it over anymore. Whatever grievance they have. It's the kind of senseless violence, the tears apart African American neighborhoods at all the cities in the United States. Just that other stupid case of okay, let's go kill this guy to settle whatever. The score is only in this case as you've seen so often. And usually it's not a car. It's the house they shot into the wrong house. They thought it was the right car. It was the wrong car. But and here's the key. Neither of the shooter's that neither the people involved in the car from which the shots came from white. So how did this happen? How did the mother? Laporta Washington come up with this story that the shots came from a truck a red truck with a couple of white people in it. The sheriff down in Houston says his name is Ed Gonzales says she thinks he thinks that she just made an honest mistake. He doesn't believe that the mother was trying to deliberately to mislead anyone any pointed out, and I think he's correct about this that when things happen real fast. Our perceptions are all screwed up. A comment about that. We did a stunt on the show. I bring this up all the time because. It was a perfect case of having something work. When did I do that thing, right? Started the show by yelling at you. And made it sound like it was mistakenly added open by but that be ten years ago. Pause about a decade. I wanted to make a point. And I didn't know what it was what story in the news prompted, but I opened the program, and I made it sound like by mistake. My microphone was open. I talked earlier than normally do. And I started yelling at Paul. In fact, I planted. I let him in and a half pass. And I said to the audience what just happened? I want people to call up and tell me what just happened. What was said? And so on. We took calls for thirty minutes and everybody had the story, right? Everybody had a detail wrong. Read this wrong and that wrong. You said this you said that thirty minutes. And these are people that were sure enough what happened that they were prompted to actually call into the radio station yet. They had it wrong. Police officers have been telling me forever that the worst kind of evidence is eye witness evidence people never know what they're seeing and their minds are racing. Now. I think I'm a pretty good observer. I think I keep my cool in most situations. I'm pretty good at this stuff. But a lot of people aren't. I think it's very very possible hears gunshots going on the road. She looks up and she just thinks the people are white. Was she tried to create a racial caused celebs? So that she can turn this thing into a money making opportunity for possible. But probably not she was probably just mistaken..

"The story the year so far in Houston, Texas has been the tragedy that unfolded on a road as a mom and four daughters, drove to a local coffee shop LaPorta Washington says she was driving with her four daughters Sunday morning when out of nowhere that truck pulled up next to them ours shot start firing and they came through my window. One of car pulled up next to them and opened fire. The mother was shot in the arm. A six year old was injured by shattered glass and seven year old. Jasmine Barnes was killed her grieving family begged police to find her killer. No matter what we have now about a what rock we gotta go. And the descriptions led activists say this looked awfully similar to an unsolved murder a year ago because the suspect is thought to be a white, man. There's even a chance that the shooting of seven year old jasmine Barnes who was black was racially motivated. But suddenly police had a breakthrough made an arrest. All the required was up ending everything. We thought we knew about the gunman ABC's Marcus more is in Houston. He's been covering the story since the beginning. So I mean, Marcus how did we get here? Well, Brad good to be with you. This is just as you mentioned just a terrible terrible tragedy a seven-year-old girl passing away. And after the shooting a police were working on a number of descriptions and information for witnesses as they always do in these homicide investigations. And they also had the moms witness description of the suspect. My daughter said, it was a way man forties. Rich the killing of jasmine bars was race related. There was some thought that this may have. Been the result of a hate crime. We believe that there's a white supremacist element in that area that needs to be trotted out found and brought to Justice so police for several days, we're working on that information. But keep in mind. They're also getting tips he became a target in investigation based on a tip that initially went to journalists and activists Shaun king. And it's that piece of information Brad that really changed this investigation. And it went a completely different direction over the weekend. They were now talking about a case where jasmine and her family may have been the victims of mistaken identity that the suspects in this case were targeting a car that they thought was someone else's. So now instead of a white suspect and questions about hate crimes. It's a black man facing capital murder charges. Another man's in custody as well. I mean, how does this happen? We'll we'll keep in mind. Again, it was it was nighttime. And this is what this is. What the sheriff told us during the news conference on Sunday. It was nighttime of the sun hadn't been up. This is a family in their car going to a coffee shop all of a sudden there's glass shattering their shots bullets hitting their car. The sheriff said that is entirely possible. That the last thing Jasmine's mother saw was the red pickup truck that was there. And she saw this person. She was just describing what she saw. And that was the information police were working with. Yeah. And Marcus you spoke to the father had a chance to sit down and really more on the death of our daughter. So that's what we're gonna do on morning. We're going to get through this other family. Obviously, we can't imagine what this family is going through. Now. This added layer is made it even more distressing for them Marcus in Houston. Thanks for filling us in Brad. Absolutely. Thank you for having me. And we'll last thing my favorite old guy comedians, Nick Kroll, and John Mullany were right? It's just too much tumor..
