Great great website the affair is coming to an end is that right Alex, what do you know about this that is correct we. Don't know ton of information is currently running a season. Four that ends about mid August but. Decided to end the show on their own terms they're gonna do one more season after. This season five? And then that's, it for the shell we don't necessarily know how. Many episodes or what's it going to be on this plane what is this I'm sorry the I've never Yeah it's been? A big hit for oh Oh Attorney is really. Love More attorneys, the actress in it right from turning west Ruth, Wilson and Josh Jackson aka pac- from Dawson's creek Say they're going to wrap it up after another season which is, a very, nice for the actors, very nice for fans of the show to habit, and on its own terms Over at HBO they've got a hit on their hands with this Amy Adams show sharp objects haven't seen it yet, here great things about it people were hoping, there'd be more but it looks like maybe one season an app for this Yeah one of our great writer editors Megan keys it's actually currently out at the TCI which at the, television, critics association tour where there's ton of panel's going. On so she has a lot of coverage going. Up about it and one. Thing that happened was Casey. Is the head of. HBO and the very first panel, came out and said Nope new season two for sharp objects You know it's it's, interesting when, you look. At that compared to save big little lies both of them were based on books nobody really expected to, be a second season of big little? Lies, because there's no other books beyond, that but. According to him all of the actors on big allies were super into doing more they really wanted to pursue it. So they ended up doing on the other hand sharp objects. Very dark it's really hard character for Amy Adams to play with story is going to be done after one season, so, no season two for the show This is a story? That I, read, the sporting Alex and I didn't clear it with you I don't know. If you're aware of it but I. I'd love your comment on it Megan Markle the new Princess there in England there's now been a ban. On British television saying, that her family you know she has an extended family with a. Half brother and a half sister. I happy and say beat up the half brother, it gets, it gets. A little crazy they say that no member of Meghan Markle's fat family is allowed to appear on a. British reality show did you hear this No I haven't heard about that they say that damaging to, the reputation, of the royals so they've put out an edict saying in America if. You wanna do that, because I think her half. Sister is up for some American reality. Show but they say as far as great British television is concerned they won't have it good for I. Mean listen that's okay Not everybody needs to be on a reality. Show right I think ultimately. There right get something that. Megan Markle do and she. Was getting into royalty is, that her tire life would. Change forever and ultimately it is, going, to change your family's forever, and, it's it's kind of, nice that the other. Folks well just, profit offset. And, drag you know potentially dragged. Her name through the mud as things off it happened. With reality show so I'm all for that I'm still watching big brother I don't care about Julie ten less moon Vizor anything and I just have, to say please if if you like, fun television maybe a, little violent but I love preacher. I love, it, love it That. Show is absolutely bananas. Insane and it's only got crazier I was talking. To? Some folks most recent episode? Which opened up a pretty much, opens up with about five to ten minutes it takes place in one room. And honestly they have some of the best staged fights. On television it's all mostly one take the camera just. Kind, of zips around the room, has four, different characters are fighting it's funny it's exciting I love. It and three words crazy. Betty Buckley I mean I'm. Telling you Betty Buckley for. Betas enough but he is, Madam Lansdale and she is. She is a main Maine woman, wow, she's really a great actor, I, didn't know she had, that inner that's excellent. Right I'm watching. For that Do this story for me Carlton chooses is one of the guys who I created. Lost and I know he did some work with net. Flicks on a, show called locking key that I don't really know too much about but there's been some news about it what do we need to know there yeah so this is actually based on one of my favorite. In general pitch, for the, weird house up north has a bunch of magical keys that each do different things a family moves into the house and battles a dark entity who wants possession of all the keys sounds good Yes it's. "Go allies because you know lansdale was was really a leadership westbury he was somebody who knew how to get along with folks like ramon magsaysay sigh and node ins yeah and we've really lack those kinds of advisers today and in dealing with very difficult personalities like hanley karzai in afghanistan or nouri almaliki and in iraq in you know if we just had somebody like an ad lansdale type of iaea close to them an influence them in a positive direction you know we might be a lot better off today in iraq and afghanistan than we actually are other things that interested me up at the book as it of a longish level that the way lansdale operated for the cia was almost outside of sort of the the station chief structure is there anything like that in the modern cia safaris you know not really i mean again lansdale was a true maverick who was an air force officer but wasn't a pilot or an avid gator and he was a cia officer but you know he wasn't really a case officer didn't really believe in recruiting agents because you know he thought that was a waste of time he believed in making friends and he would just go to his friends and have his friends give them information instead of the kind of the traditional case over case officer methodology in the cia of you know blackmailing somebody are paying them off into stealing secrets that wasn't at all the ed lansdale mindset and you know one of the tragedies in vietnam is that when ed lansdale left at the end of 1950 six were his role is to be no dens eoms political adviser he was not replaced and the cia sleep station in in in saigon went back to kind of its comfort zone which was instead of trying to influence the they would pay a cleaninglady in the presidential palace the steal the contents it was wastebasket.

"The inspiration from one of the main characters in the ugly american and he was at one time you know really a legendary figure who has written about by david halberstam neil sheehan francis fitzgerald every rider who wrote about vietnam wrote about edward lansdale but what happened is that as i got into riding the spoke about him i found that a lot of the stuff that was written about him was just not accurate that people had not had access to the kind of documentary record that i was able to get my hands on including the letters that he wrote not only do his wife but also to his longtime mistress this filipino lady who eventually became a second wife as long with all these newly declassified documents and that all that together really enables me to portray lansdale in the fullest than most in terms that has been possible to date and to provide a much more rounded picture of his exploits in the philippines and vietnam the highest rate he achieved was what he actually retired as a twostar general he was probably the least likely general in the whole history of the air force are probably any other service uh because he wasn't a pilot he wasn't an an avid gator he wasn't a conventional intelligence off serb he was really a covert operatives in in some ways his field was psychological operations and a cultural understanding and that's really what he focused on was understanding the philippines and vietnam in order to influence those societies and that's not a skillset that's routinely cultivated by the air force or by any other military service and this was a time when a cia or oss operative they usually come from the ivy league schools they join such a service is an act of noblesse oblige but he's.

"At the situation in indochina the french had just been defeated an indian beyond fu vietnam was being split between north and south with hochien men in the communist to control the north and the question was what would happen to south vietnam how would you create a noncommunist state and so it was natural after ed lansdale success in the philippines they basically said lots senate lansdale let's ask add to do what he did in the philippines sale they sent him tear south vietnam where he becomes a big supporter f f d m and was he a true believer in dammar did he sort of see him as a kind of corrupt and compromise leader who nonetheless was the best chance that vietnam hat it's absolutely correct to say that in in a 1954 ed lansdale embrace no dens em who is the newlyappointed prime minister of of south vietnam and at a time when few people thought he would last nine weeks much lost nine years and he really lansdale really orchestrated ziems attempts to consolidate power but not in a heavyhanded kind of way i mean he really wanted as em to rule in the consensual fashioned a win this support of the people and he pushed back against some of his autocratic tendencies i mean he was very aware of the fact that that see com was not a charismatic democrat like ramon knocks ice i had been in the philippines that he was somebody who was much more of a confucian mandarin who was reclusive and shy but he also i saw some positive qualities ncm and that others did not discern because he thought that sihaan was personally honest than personally committed to the people of of vietnam he was not corrupt and he had some legitimacy as a nationalist because he had opposed both the communists and the french in so even though lansdale was often argued with cmr in and was very aware of his flaws his judgment was that there was no better alternative if you were going to consolidating noncommunist south vietnam you mentioned earlier that of research came from declassified documents and i'm wondering is there an equivalent on the vietnam side has there been an opening up of the archives in the way that our has in the former soviet union where you can allocate access to you have what was going on.
