"Just be sure to choose. Is guilty tonight. In a era of distrust in this information, there's a lot of fake news out there has a former journalist developed a way to know what's fake tonight on W. G and T V news at nine. I like this text, by the way, it says John the kids first trick or treating. So here's what we did. We put clothes pins out on a string. And we stuck the candy to the clothes pins, and then the kids could just pluck the candy bars from the string. That's a nice idea. Sort of like hanging out. Your laundry only hung out the candy. I don't know if they had it on a wheel like they could pull it in and rotated out. But That's a clever idea. I had a friend who set up one of those PVC tubes with the black and orange tape around it, and they slid the candy down the tube to the kids. Into their basket, which was kind of fun. I still thought it would be fun if you just poured a little vodka down there, and the adults came by with martinis. Little glasses. You could roll in olive down there as well. I don't know if anybody did that. We're talking a little bit about what it's like for the kids Learning at home. And by the way, you teachers, I'd love to hear from you, although I know you're busy, but we're talking to a couple of parents. Let's finish our conversation with Patty. She's the mom of a swimmer. Who is a senior at Lane Tech High School. The swim season just ended. How did Lane Tech do? Patty? Wonderfully. There. The city champions again. They've been city champs eight out of the past 10 years. And additionally they have now been ranked number 20 in the state. According to swim clouds, So they've got a pretty good reputation number 20 in the state or 20 in the country. No 20 in the state. And so then I guess a pool is a big area. It's not like wrestling, right? I mean, they were able to do so safely, huh? Um I think it depended on the individual school. We have 56 women in our swim club. Um, so in years past, it was not that big of a deal because They did practice four hours a day. So, of course, you can rotate between time on the white machine time in the pool and other dry land exercises. But The appearance met with the coach is after the coaches met with the athletic director and GPS and we decided to downsize a little bit. Typically, I think of the time they allowed 50 people. In a group at a time and we've only got six lanes. There would have been enough room, but the parents didn't feel that it was safe environment. So you kind of cut back on that. What? Unfortunately, everything was cut back on the swimmers. Instead of practicing four hours a day, the kids on ly practice between 1.5 to which I'm okay with it. I mean, swimmers have to make the biggest commitment. It seems they've got to get up at four in the morning to get the pool beforehand. Then they swim afterwards. The regiment for swimmers is just crazy. Yes. What did you think about you guys? Sounds like maybe just got under the wire right? Like I don't know what they would have done with swimming since the state is trying to shut down athletics. I know the NSA wants them to continue. We'll see how that That ends up But you know, we were starting to worry about that. Last March, when they shut everything down Girls Polo, which cancelled altogether Typically, when the season ends for the high school girls, they immediately go to a club swim. And they swim all your around while unfortunately everything there was cancelled, too. Go. Pardon? I wanted to ask you one last question about your daughter's academics. So she's getting tests online, and she fills out the test or quiz or assignment turns him in like that, right? Yes, pecs quizzes, and they're still giving AP exams. I heard about that. And so then what's your daughter's plans after high school? Um, I just found out that she wants to go into economics. Okay, That's it was between neuro science and economics shirt. So who knows? What have you guys toured schools. No, no, because of you know, my nephew did, but he he went to some campus is nice is Oh, what fun. How was that They go well, there's no students on campus. There's nobody to lead you around campus. So you go to the school and you drive around. You look at an empty You know, little village with us. Nobody going on and you imagine what life will be like there, but it's so strange. Yeah, well, I told her Apply for anything you want. We will look to see who you had accepted from, and then we'll narrow it down and make those small trips. Well, good luck to y'all and congratulations to Lane Tech. Patty. We were interested in what it's like for the kids. I appreciate you telling us your story. Thank you very much. Have a good day. And Susan, are you there? You're on wg. And that was the mother of a senior in high school. You have kindergartners that right, Susan. Thank you. I have a kindergartner. Where does what's this person's name? She Harper is a kindergartner at Charles J. Sod in Central Stickney. Gotta gotta gotta. How's it going? It's actually going great. We've had struggles because that's to be expected. When you're in China have 25 kindergartners, learn letters and numbers and All of that, But she's grown already. You can already tell that she's been learning a lot and the teachers are putting a lot of time into it. I really respect or appreciate our admire. I'm not sure what the right word is, but How challenging it must be for the teachers to find a new way to communicate with these kids respond to them. The extra effort they must be putting in Yeah, And I know we're lucky because we are in a pretty small district. So her classes relatively small, but her teacher has been doing amazing and I know it's hard for her. She's been doing this for years. Now, all of a sudden, instead of the big, beautiful classroom, or she can have kids play and get to know each other's you tryingto help five year old through. Oh, that's right treatment. So your daughter's kindergarten. This is her first school experience, so she's not used to anything right? I think that's actually a good thing. She did have preschool last year at the same school, but it was only half a day. So She didn't have any expectations of being able to go into school because she hasn't had that yet. So I think that actually benefited us. What's the attention span like for a kindergartner, then thie teachers, which we only go to school, from 8 30 to 11 30. Then they get a lunch break. And after that they do some small groups. But she only does that maybe once or twice a week so that the time that the teacher takes to focus on Individual students shall break them into smaller groups. So luckily, we've only got about three hours where we have to keep a really focused and the teacher does a good job of keeping things pretty varied. So that they're not trying to spend 20 minutes in one activity because it just wouldn't happen. And this is a public school or private school public. Well, that's good to hear. Yeah, they're great. I can't say enough good things about our school and her teachers and they're just all around. Amazing. They're very supportive. They're handing out They're doing through distribution for kids who are supposed to be getting free lunches. You go to the school and pick up a box. There's monthly pickup and drop off for paperwork and homework and searches. They thought about everything. They're really thinking about the parents. What's the name of that school again? Charles J. Size instinct. KNEE Illinois. Well done. I'm kind of curious how this has been going. I really appreciate the feedback if something else unique, fascinating, tragic or interesting happens, let us know. But so far so good. Yes, I will take this. I would much rather have her at home where it's safe, mostly for our sake, but also for the teachers, too. So I I'm not pleased that we have to do it, but we'll do it as long as we need to. Nice of you to call. Thanks for your time. Susan. Thank you. You have a good day. 10 26. W g on radio news comes your way Next. I said it between 10 30 11. We're going to do this. I want to play some of the John Mulaney monologue from Saturday night. Let's talk about that. Get.

"Bill, Graham civic auditorium and lane tech high school like that was by far the cleanest day in the history of that school forever forever after like it will never be as clean as it was the day that apple meant there. Right? Yeah. I guess there's the argument that like, oh, keep keep the Steve Jobs theater for only the most important special events, the iphone event, but that doesn't really know means anything. Yeah. I think. Made sense maybe for the first event to be there to be for last year's. I, you know, the biggest event of the year is the iphone announcement. Sorta made sense to christen theater with that event. But now just to me makes sense that you'd use it whenever you have something to announce. And the reason they only used it once last year is it was a year where they just didn't have anything else to announce. I mean, one of the reasons that people are so excited about new ipad pros is that the ipad pros, our current ones are really two generations old. They sorta skip the whole eleven. CPU cycle. So I think people are really excited people who love the ipad are really excited about them because it's the, you know, a hate to use the word overdue, but there may be a little overdue. No, I think I think that's super fair. I mean, you know, if you look at, especially, you know, not even just in a vacuum, but if you look at competition like it's getting better and you know, that's not to say that they have to respond to any sort of increase cadence pressure, but they there needs to be a new ipad pro like now, so, and it seems like especially if the idea is that it won't have a home button and there's probably more to more to the story that's not just going to be a press release, update like that. I think that commands an event. So. Remember the when they did the apple watch in, I think what was it. I forget what you're when out there was a twenty fifteen when originally announced the apple watch. Maybe it was two thousand fourteen but the and they had that event on the college campus in Cupertino, what's the name of that college. Yes, I don't know, but they built like a gigantic. I get a literal building out front for the his- hands-on area like. Yeah, they built the equivalent of of an apple store all temporary just to have an open air. Hands on area after the event. It was crazy. I mean, even the stuff they do in that convention center where they have WW DC is pretty is pretty intense like the. I think last summer they had a big demo area and I don't remember now making. Now making things up. But yeah, the construction they will do inside of someone else's space like is pretty is pretty intense. So to to go back to earlier. Yeah, I think that if it, if there's going to be something and they don't have a good reason for it to be somewhere else, you know, in the past they've had like events like what the blending with Amazon too, but like they'll have something at a library somewhere, something like that. Or you know, the education event, the spring was at a public high school, but there doesn't seem to be a place like that where they would have an ipad events and they used to have a member these to have events at the what's that place in San Francisco..

"Next weekend at six and seven from eleven AM to ten PM both days there is nothing to miss here. Suggested donation, and it's the the money goes to the friendship center in friendship pet pantry. Which is a really really cool. I love that. And this is just two blocks north Irving park. I used to live in Belle plaine years ago. Yeah. Over there. It's banned further east, and it was it was pretty. It was sketchy. I was a pioneer. Yeah. Growing up, and I remember growing up and hugging you can talk about this. We both went to lane tech high school at the same time. A lot of people hung out there at the zephyr restaurants, not too far from there. But that was the kind of restaurant, you haven't had neighbors like mom and pops you diners, and yet a lot of that kind of thing exactly the centralist for ice cream, though. Right. Did you go food? It was they did have food now. Great good, grilled cheese. Yeah. And then the sparkly kind of cushy, you know, kind of seats zephyr, though over buys efforts. We're gonna have mutual. Efforts. Yeah. This is true. All right. Let's go through the beers here. Because we've got beers. We might as well, do I walk down memory lane. But I'd like to drink some beer now mind, you the beer who wants who's gonna get three guys Kevin's been doing all the talking Bill. Yeah. He's like teller of Penn and teller doesn't and we got Haagen. All right. So where do we where do we go here? What what are we starting with? Well, it's about believe the first beer is a big aisles blonde. Flagship beer. I think it's one of the best beers. They make man that's good. We drink a lot of blonde at at one point. I did when we were doing construction. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. How many how how big are your two breweries here. In terms of like, how many how much goes out the door every year? Less than an Heiser Bush spills in a day. Combines but you can go by this. I mean, you got a see both of you guys in the bars. Yeah. Right. All over the north side on the even places like that. They get a billion handles. And then in the stores, right? And then people can go the brewery, you'll hang out and could drink a debris to the best. That is the best. That really is the best. All right. So this is a this is a nice very over here. Now, why why is it that beer is better now than it has ever been? We can anybody anybody wanna take that. Why is fresh? I mean, there's been a renaissance since you know, a growing Renaissance's like nineteen Seventy-six. Right. And it's and it's just kind of snowballed since nineteen seventy six home brewing became legal. Yeah. Which was which was a false branch on the tree because everybody's cousin would have you over? Try our beer. Potted plants were killed. Time for beer, but then the micro breweries start, right? But the but the guys who did it. Well, and and women who did it. Well, they started breweries, and and they became more successful NAN spire to others. And and that was a change in all this. But I'm saying after after seventy six oh nine hundred seventy six there were forty breweries left in in the United States and today, we're approaching seven thousand that's here. And they're good, man. I mean, you've got really great so good. But I would say in Chicago there. There are probably a dozen. And some of them, obviously, you know, like anita's started. Here goes spices. Like that great. But they become kind of bigger enterprises. These the I can think of a dozen of these small batch breweries that I think just blow anything else water, and there's there's complexity like wine to these beers. Which is really great because you can because if I drink wine too quickly. It turned into bread cavenaugh at the here yesterday. Yeah. Back. Player man, Jermaine. All right. Hold on a second..

"Into thursday march twenty nine gordon deal jennifer kushinka some of our top stories and headlines trump fires the embattled v a secretary north korea's leader will meet with the south korean president next month today is national vietnam war veterans day opening day for baseball today facebook curbing the info exchanges with companies that collect and sell consumer data for advertisers swearing at work apparently isn't so taboo anymore and the new jersey guy who thought he had a beer gut until he demanded a cat scan here what doctors found that story in about twenty minutes apple has sent the ipad back to school literally entered events at chicago's lane tech high school earlier this week apple unveiled a new model of its entry level tablet designed to appeal the teachers and students here's a review from washington post technology columnist jeffrey fowler jeff would it be found dominant schools reading something seven so associates them with with the school market but they actually cliff and the last couple of years the reason is the rise of google chromebooks shubert cheap claims out laptops that keyboard but they only run kind of web based software those cost two hundred bucks and now make up sixty percent of the us education market it's kind of insane i has just fallen off a cliff on that as i said they're closer to to sixteen percent so put them the best way to kind of strike back in the us education market is with ipads they're cheaper than laptops to start with and also they sort of allow apple to kind of pick your belt as being more feature oriented it's a little bit more about using your finger at our services to create things it's just giant screen they can talk about augmented reality and that's what we heard a lot about apple events all the things that you can now do with an ipad that you couldn't do with an old fashioned laptop.
