"It'd be terry and he was very good. Talker understood the business and He used the right guy. The great the great lance russell was able to help rehabilitate that image so interior talker and he's a fresh face so I think that made sense at that point in time. Anytime you can work with lance russell wanna renouncing skills. He's one of the guys you wanna go to write. Let's mention to that. He's gonna very quickly find himself doing some different stuff including losing the michael wall street stark aid. Ninety that's his first pinfall loss. We covered this and our irs episode. Recently we also talked about him Eventually becoming part of the york foundation Talk to me about what you felt about. The pairing of terry taylor and terry ronald who at the time was alexandra york. The look. I thought it was a cool concept. You know in hindsight. Maybe a little hokey but in the context of the time it was car. Cool cow worked. Yeah i liked it. It was something fresh and new again. You got a new character you know. Alexander york was Was new she was the she didn't make up for larry king for cnn. She's around all the time. She's a makeup or a a wrestling so She was A fresh face Very very attractive woven had a had the perfect demeanor. The only thing that we saddled terry with was hopefully she can learn. She knew more than than we were. We perceived she was green. She didn't know how to do certain things. And that's not a knock on terry. Just the fact that she had no experience in that role and all of a sudden she's not putting developmental she's not sent to vw type deal. She's national television. So i thought she'd for training and her background. She entered that role she didn't. She did extremely well. And i. i like the computers have more topical. Yep and she had that little computer. Thank going so i didn't have a problem with that presentation whatsoever. It's almost kinda michael wall street's gimmick but when he slides out terrence. Taylor we make minor change sanitary taylor. He's terrence taylor slides right in get the oil slick back hair. Going and big cat is introduced as his bodyguard. Of course that's curtis hughes and taylor gets a win over tom. Zink wrestle war. Ninety one and tom's zinc's another guy that i think. Wcw had really big hopes for whatever reason maybe never achieved at the way they would have hoped. Would you agree with that yeah. Tom didn't connect with the audience. Tom had a little bit of that. Terry taylor mentality. I look good. I can wrestle. I can talk so wireline on the top. The cards and that's kind of how i felt about tom. That deal he he. He was a very skilled but he is sometimes A little too defiant too self absorbed shall we say and Battalion no doubt he. Tom think talent. He just had a less than desirable attitude or someone in his stead in life. You know you gotta get along to play at all and sometimes. Tom didn't get along with the office. With thanks he said questioning booking and so it just a matter and i'm not saying that you should say anything i'm saying that if you're disgruntled or disappointed or whatever Baton was just hard to please sometimes. And then taylor got came more. That older he got so. I don't know. I buy like the gimmick you know. We're we're repackaging. Ricky morton telling me rich when i was so it'd be questionable and then terrence taylor So it was a it was a bowl moved. I thought it had some potential. Ricky morton is a heel was thought great Tell me risk out. A new lease on life worth giving. And of course. There's terry and all kind of centered around the alexandra york and she was like i said she for or lack of experience she has. She did a good job eventually. The york foundation would include richard morton and thomas rich of course terrence taylor still here and in hindsight and feels like. Hey this is three guys. We don't really know what to do with. Let's change their names and slick their hair's back in let's just suing do pretty much sh Guys that we all could work. Yeah and so. We didn't have anything specific for them. So this is created To repackage those talents. And i had no issues that that concept whatsoever. I thought it made sense. You gotta use your whole roster. Everybody's got a role and if they're so meaningless that you can't figure a roll out for them are they. Just don't fit your game plan then you need. Let them move on. Go find someplace to work that they that they can that they can be better at so I i didn't have a problem with that situation whatsoever. But it rings to one of the more infamous matches of nineteen ninety one as well. Yeah the One of the worst masses of all time. Great american bash ninety-one that terrible scaffold match in baltimore terry. Terrence is going to be teeming. With steve austin to take on p. In news and bobby eaton. Of course you've got three of the best four performers. Maybe on the whole card and we're gonna put them in a scaffold match. The can't really show what they can do. Work the shit at all but that was creative at times ninety one but it gets a little better halloween. Havoc ninety one terrence finds himself in singles action against bobby eaton in the readers of the wrestling observer. Called it match the night. Probably no surprise though. If you let terry taylor and bobby eaton just do what they know how to do. You're going to get a good match. Is inevitably no doubt about it You know the one thing. I'll say for all you folks are listening to have run into promotions and he won't have a scaffold match. My first piece of advice is don't Because as you said it limits your talents as to what they can do and all the fans are waiting for worst. Nothing unlike a nascar race. You're you're doing a succession of left turns and you're just waiting for survived wreck crash and burn and That's got at nascar. An all do respect. I enjoy nascar But i enjoy the crashes the most.

"Set mack jones would have made sense to him and the patriots and the genius ballot check sits bag not the boy genius with quotes but genius sits back and waits and he gets him at fifteen. So you're saying. Aj is if the forty niners would have picked matt jones. You'd be more comfortable with that than what they did for this year. But that same quarterback that would have been superior in your mind at fifteen. The patriots got without having to trade up. I think most people thought that. If matt jones had gone number three overall it wouldn't have been a just over. And now what what you've been saying is you've been talking about matt stafford and kinda that cop if you remember about a month ago. Kyle shanahan was on sean mcveigh's podcast admitted that he wanted matt stafford so trey lance was said this as a backup option. But that's kind of what he was. A fallback diane and you mortgage your future for a fallback plan. That's the scary part to me. This is great. Let's take our first break. Would he just said. Aj is going to segue into. There's an arms race going on in the nfc west. We know that one of them does something the other one needs to do. Something one is at creighton sub optimal decisions but number two. Nfc west yes in mcvay and shanahan. It's kinda incestuous. But i think there's some competition going on. That might be bad for the teams. And i think that mcveigh perhaps made a selfish move with stafford. Explain that next. This is the fastest growing show on fox sports radio audiences doubled in the last year. Plus why because he. Nfc west the la rams have a brand new quarterback in jared goff the forty niners move up in the draft. And they'd take the quarterback of the future in trae lance russell russell wilson rather is back in seattle for the seahawks looking to make things work there with caroline company. And then you've got cuyler. Marie and clip kingsbury year three as they head into this upcoming season. Yeah this is Talk about the questions. Collar murray is going to be great. Some great topics here Just to wrap up with the colts in right now. The odds of starting week. One for the colts easson is the favorite. He's the minus money favorite minus one. Thirty big nick. Foles plus two fifty than philip rivers. Surge was ten to one now. Three and a half to one philip rivers. We all agree better quarterback right now than carson. Wentz nick foes jonas. Did you hear the tape. Colin plate yesterday here in fsr new folks talking about the colts in his love of frankly. I don't think i've ever heard anything like that. Yeah it's that was an open campaign to come and get me. I'm tired of being. A third stringer here and i'm tired of playing in chicago. I mean i don't know if you've ever had this experience before but let's say there's a good before you were married. There was a girl that you thought you know. If i have a little romance that would be a lucky break for me. And then She says something like earlier than you could ever imagine. That seems like it's like not only is that possible. She's like leading the charge. You you've had that experience wants twice. I'm guessing i. I made it spent so long. Yeah at that point. You're thinking what can i say. Whatever i say. Don't mess this like you've got it now. Now you wanna you. Don't want to act to exciting. You know mackenzie but this happens. And exactly and it's a situation where you just you go from. How am i gonna work this to. How might not gonna mess this up. Well this is an example of. She's walking out the door and you're saying stay. Stay nick. foles is like listed. I played my best under the frank reich system and then and then at the end when he goes yep i guess if not i'll just keep slinging it with a thirteen here it's worth it was almost like a spoof. I just don't know how many press conferences third string. Quarterbacks have had all training camp if you have a statue in front of philadelphia stadium. I think the the issue is like nick. Foles wants to get back with frank reich but since they last dated nick foles his his gained sixty pounds put on some cellulite because you look at his stats the last couple of years. And he's awful. He's just not a viable. Nfl quarterback anymore and he's had chances and every time he's had jat with jacksonville and chicago. Yeah all right. But i mean he was thirty second in the league and qbr last year. I mean that's he's not even competitive. Sam darnold last year or do you want someone who's as good as sam darnold is apparently billionaire and carolina. Mortgage donors sam. Darnold was thirty three. Exactly exactly we're straight out of eggs that's rj and we got jonas an ally who i didn't even plan that jonah's pretty good all right. So carson wentz. We know he's kind of fragile. He's he's kind of fragile. I could see if philip rivers comes any might be okay but who knows. But if nick foles comes in that would be worth the price of admission. I may have in fact. I think i will have a best bat and week once seattle and the colts play. There's been a drastic line move so check back Ordinary check back. But i'll get into that in the last segment right before six fifty eastern but now as we talked about transition into the rams why do i think that mcveigh has been selfish with his tray with stafford self interested might be the best way to say so jonas. Let me ask you is if they had kept jared goff and they had a low average average to below average the rams offensive year this year. Would you agree. The narrative would be Rams offense and mcvay scheme was mighty good but then couple years ago is the bears that some interesting staff and then the genius ballot check took off on that pretty much shot him out in the super bowl and ever since the league has had the cheat code and the rams man you start to question mcvay in his scheme maybe the least gotten past it. Would you say that would've been a fair narrative. Yeah and it feels like Jared goff was the guy who was thrown under the bus. The fall guy in all of this because now you can say hey. I don't i don't want to say anything bad about them but The guy we sent out of things are better. Right now. Things are they. I mean that's been the narrative the whole ever since the trade right. Yeah what was the narrative after the trade and then it was a narrative right out to the season and then their decision to start the backup walford. In the playoff game jared goff came in and had to basically save the day with with an injured hand in that game against seattle. Then he goes to green bay. I thought he played actually really well at lambeau and all things considered and they could not throw him under the bus fast enough afterwards. You make a great point is if they were even neutral on gough. Let's say the and it wasn't a decision to start the other guy but it was rather an injury decision right where i think it was borderline and it was kind of a vote of no confidence when they started wofford is it was a situation where the way he played in that game to win a playoff game with a hurt hand and then go into lambeau and play pretty well. You'd have to say that whatever you thought gough. The opinion has increased. probably by two notches. You know like he was twenty notches on an opinion spectrum. Like a ten percent increase off those couple games. Aj would you agree with that. And do you agree with me. That this is more of a pr that he can then put those last couple of years behind him and not tarnish the genius boy genius label because let's be honest. He's running the shanahan scheme. He's got his anger on it. And you know what his angle seems to have been died and now the question is is the iteration going to be good or not because if you look at what was it. Stanley the The d. guy defense coordinator last year that saw with the chargers. Is that how you pronounce his. I say staley staley stay with. Yeah yeah so. When you look at what brandon right brand staley is you look at him and you say the rams were the one of the best if not best defense last year. How was your offense not that great so big. Does he get credit for hiring staley. Yeah okay but now we've had another year than even making the play-offs had more to do with the other side of the ball. So if it wasn't for the good pr you've got to wonder where mcveigh's rap would be right now and golfing the sacrificial lamb the fall guy feels like a pr. Move in a way it does. I could see where you'd be coming from that much. Felt about jimmy garoppolo in the in the niners getting to the super bowl. In spite of jimmy garoppolo. I kind of felt the same way about the rams. I felt like the guy if they had just a a better quarterback jared goff. They win that super bowl. And so i think it can be both ways. I think it can be sean. Mcvay trying to to rebuild his image a little bit but i also think from a football standpoint. They're significantly upgraded. Jared goff was just not good. Mike sando who did his tears for the athletic and he was talking a couple really interesting concept or comments and one of them was how. He's never really seen a coach. Do a hit job on his own quarterback while still on the team like mcveigh has done they. His point is it's borderline the worst. He's ever seen them. Turn on a guy and my question is if he's lazy or something and and i'm not saying yes but if you was that's something that's gonna get frustrated with over time and there might be a tipping point at a certain point you're like that's enough but feels like it went from hot to cold because let's be honest. Mcveigh checked off on that extension. The you wanna talk about another kind of a victory that might actually be an indictment mcveigh's the one that decided to reopen him. Give me Goff the big contract. I know there was a gm but mcveigh has power there. So now the question becomes you're the one that gave him the contract yours. Turn on them this quickly after two of his better games at least relative to the situation man i mean it feels like this is about one guy and i don't know mcveigh in any way i do. Think think about and this is going. Back bill walsh and then seaford and seaford won a super bowl but it was like it never was the same. It was like a copy and then it was a copy of the copy as time goes on. Because it's the changes you gotta know moved to make but pop is not there anymore wall shores. isn't there to help would happen with the cowboys. jimmy johnson. then you bring in switzer. Yeah they limped the finish line but it was a copy of a copy. And i'm not saying mcveigh's not a smart guy but there's a lot of smart people go to any college. The professors are pretty smart. Usually forget if you go to jail and you know what shanahan's are a special breed. They have proven that their system can iterating. You look at how he keeps. Iterating it really. What do we know for mcveigh other than he. He lifted that system. He hasn't even even changed it in a major way even once. So if you lifted a system which is fine we all get influence. And then the league changes. And you don't hit rate and then you throw your quarterback under the bus. I don't know man. A few as i like feels like he's getting exposed to a final thought on that junk. Yeah and i just think that they put themselves in a spot to wear anything less than a super bowl and it's considered a little bit of a failure because you've got to a super bowl with jared goff so you got to at least equal that if not surpass it in order for this to seem like it was the best move for the organization and i'm just skeptical or not. It's going to have what we've seen. We've seen this in the past. Where where jon gruden is a great example of a guy who's done this multiple times. He didn't in tampa with chris simms. After he went to a super bowl. Chris simms played well then played a little less well than suddenly everything that was wrong with. Chris simms fault and he was gone and he's kinda done that to a lesser extent with derek carr thrown him under the bus rumble of times. So it's not unusual for a for a coach who's had this great success when they don't have it to pawn it off on someone else no by the way first job in the nfl. Through mcveigh jon. Gruden head coach. Okay let's take our final break when we come back two things one. I'll tell you if. I have a best bat and a week. One that will be world premiere right here number two. Why does aj. "More importantly, I remember growing up going to wrestling The Louisville Gardens when I was a kid, Yes. What Alan is team have done is just absolutely amazing with O V W. And so we just got really excited about the opportunity to come in and bring in some new resource is to help continue to support. What out doing And the growth opportunities for OV W for a great local sports entertainment company based here in Louisville, and also AL runs the outs No Wrestling academy, which is part of a VW. And we hope to help out make that the biggest and best rest in school in the entire country, if not world, the only state accredited resting school in the entire country on so we think We can help working without make. Just take that great heights. You, Mitch. You mentioned going to Louisville Gardens. My father would take me as a child. The Louisville Gardens Tuesday night at the guards of the news. That's right. You hear from Lance Russell and a brown yesterday Just by luck. Listen, before I ever knew we had this interview, I I posted a picture of Lance Russell Day Brown. I said if you knew these two growing up, you had a fantastic childhood. It got all kinds of traction on Twitter and that led me to think. Hey, what we need to do is see how many of these rustlers are around From that day. You do a tribute show to him, but I'll snow Were you in that? I guess. Did you rustle up the garden as well? Because listen, that was the heyday. If you started wrestling 82. If you wrestle with the gardens that was still a big time. Deal back then. Well, it was very big time deal, and I did wrestle with the gardens. But I didn't wrestle for Memphis. I wrestled for WB when we came down in Russia. Yes, And it was still It was still an incredible experience, you know? Professional wrestling in Louisville. I mean, has a very long history and tradition back to starting in the low key Alan Athletic Club back in the thirties. You know, there were people don't realize there used to be. It was so popular that we're two warring promotions here in the city at one time back in the thirties. Oh, yeah grew huge audiences for decades. Well, these two have met nays. Terry miners used to deliver milk. He pulled his pull his milk truck up to the front change into his wrestling outfit. Get paid 25 bucks rest in a couple of matches. And then get back into his truck. And because he was the he was the German town giant. And, uh, yes. Yes, yes. Oh, Matt nays. Think about that Matt Nation. Of course, when I was involved in ov W when you're talking about it when W W used to come down and they were obviously pair they were almost one. Entity. Uh, I mean, it was there were 6000 fans. For a for a night of Louisville Gardens. A pact not an empty seat in and it was just I hope, al, How could we get How do you get back to that spot? Well, you just It takes time. It takes a lot of hard work and, you know, I know Chad Miller and Joey's and Larry guns. We're all excited to have Craig and Matt joined the team, and I think with the addition of those two guys with us, it's just gonna We're just gonna continue to do what we've been doing for the last 2.5 years, and it's just continue to build and grow. And you know and really You know, get back to the community. We've always done that with a VW and we're going to continue to do that. We're very happy and excited to be a part of some clearly a part of Louisville and in part of the community, And now that we're starting to expand and get a Television presence nationally. I mean, we're like 150 Million homes were like on eight different national networks, and we're internationally available as well. Now, um, across Europe on go overseas about fine, honestly, about 700 million homes around the world. Um, you know, it's it's our opportunity to show everybody just How great Louisville loses the community and show everybody how great the fans are here in mobile and support for professional wrestling, Talking to house no wrestling Great and listen. You mentioned how Louisville has been a hotbed for wrestling for as long as I could remember, Long as I've been alive is our referenced Lance Russell Day Brown Tuesday night of the Gardens. I want to talk to you about how the popular is here. It's popular enough for you guys could build your own, um, facility. Yes. Yes. I mean, you know it zits Amazing to me because when I first came here as part of the developmental program with a bit of the you know, I You know, I would been grew up in Ohio and you know, I was even I was a little surprised. Just incredible Following and the loyalty of the fans in Louisville, Kentucky, you know, because typically You know, I used to say to the founder in the former owner, Danny Davis. I was like, I just don't understand. Like, you know, how can we not burn this town out? Like you know, we've run it so often and We just never did. I mean, the fans. Here are one of a kind. I mean, they truly are loyal and they truly enjoy and do support. You know, professional wrestling, and they supported Well, we W for over 30 years. I mean, Danny Davis. Created O B W Wrestling back in 1993. So you know, and we're one of the longest locally produced consecutive television shows on the air. I think we're 1100. 17 or 18 consecutive episodes will will produce another one again Tonight will be live on WB n A and eight o'clock tonight and you know that's an incredible track record. Only law to be only raw and Smackdown are close to producing consecutive episodes. As many as we have, um, in fact, smack that we Beat Smackdown Torto 1000 episodes by a week. That's also that's awesome. Craig Greenberg, bring you back in 21 See guide and you're very obviously very creative for helping create those two hotels. Um I got Tonto. I wrestled but and I went to school a couple of times and the what? You can learn it. Zen art form very physical, But it's an art form, Craig or you're gonna actually participate in the school Get least go to the school to learn Maura. About what you're creating here, you, Joe. But look, look what vegetable man that I know what I'm saying. Are you going to do this, Greg? Well, I've learned. One thing I've learned in life is never say never. But that's certainly not my intention. Great. They're great wrestlers, Sal is teaching a great new crop of wrestlers. Is AL mentioned tonight at eight o'clock, people can watch it on W bdni or even on Saturday night, One of the exciting things that we're gonna do is this Saturday night is over VW's nightmare Rumble. And for the first time to celebrate our involvement in the company. We're actually gonna offer the nightmare rumble for free online to anyone who wants to watch it. It's a 30 man, Royal rumble and then also, we've got a championship match with our current champion, Mr Pec tacular Jesse Goddard's, and so It's gonna be a great evening that AL has lined up here, and it's going to be some of the nation's best wrestlers, along with some of the folks from the school that are all wrestling that night, and you can go toe ov wrestling dot com and watch it live. Working great together so far, he hasn't gotten mad enough yet. Body Plan B, but that might happen. And maybe that will happen in the thing you never see. I still have my single it from DOS High school. When I wrestled, I'll join you in the rain like Craig Greenberg and l still win. "Shallow is an ice sinister of sound doesn't it? They did like it but they had to persuade Bon Jovi and Lance Russell to record it the way that it was eventually released. So, the single was released in December of nineteen seventy seven and there may have been a real life event that affected its popularity. You say, just a few months earlier, a guy named David Berkowitz was terrorizing New Yorkers and had already killed six people and wounded seven others before he was finally apprehended on August tenth of that year. Because of the gun he was using he was originally called the forty four caliber killer from a letter. He sent to the police essentially mocking them was released to the press and based on what was in that letter. He was almost immediately called the son of.

"You know a lot of swell, pierce, but So I sent him some books in the maybe like a week week and a half after that. Was At work in a phone call. And it was him, and obviously he's got a very distinctive voice. The Voice of Wrestling growing up for me, so it's. If. It wasn't if there wasn't a way. A GIF couldn't hear his voice I still. WanNa thought it was like A. A joke or somebody who was a mess with me, but it was had and We talked for about an hour and which was amazing to me and he was so so super into like. Are In comic book, Art and stuff like that and such an easy conversation. And he's like all totally. To these coverage for you and then. you know I come to find out years later. That Jerry got into wrestling by doing Doing art for wrestling, you know. He grew up in Memphis and he drew Wrestlers and sent them into the Memphis television show and they put them on the air. And then they hired him to be like a almost like a courtroom reporter where they would have non televised events like he would draw. A picture of something that happened at the show, and then they would show it on the air. and. So for him, Lance Russell who was the announcer on that show took a chance on him and put his art on television. You know just out of the blue so. He's like you know. When he saw my email, he saw that as a chance to pay. That kind is forward to the next person. and. You know now. He's one of my best friends. That's amazing I love that story. I love that it just came from a like a cold email. Because so often I tell people to email me, and maybe you get this to I don't know how how open you are giving the business cards and telling people email you at shows I'm shows and I skipped my email out to all sorts of people. Might my business card our now might gary you know. We talked for a little bit. If you have a question, email, may and I am constantly shocked. How few people actually take me up on that and on top of that when they do how often I get a response? That's like oh! I thought this was just going to go to some like junk folder somewhere I can't believe you actually emailed me back. Yeah get the same thing. I do a ton of breaking into comics in India comrex panels and stuff like that crowdfunding panels and you know one of the things I I'd like to provide as far as the service goes is just helping people sort of stand on my shoulders? They'll have to make all the mistakes that I made. is there is no real roadmap. In the comics and there's really no. There's really no way to to do with the right way so I was trying to provide you know these are the mistakes I made, so you don't have to make them kind of thing but. I always tell people to to come. Find Me. It'll feel like you've you've sat through? You've sat through this forty five minutes of Of Me Talking. Maybe you know you have questions and stuff. But. I mean some people do not not a lot for sure. Yeah even when I'm on my social media account and I'm like responding to people and they're like. I can't believe that you respond back so I think it's even a level like I'm playing at a much lower level than like Jerry lawler is and even then night. You get people who are. Nervous to reach out to you when honestly oftentimes when someone reaches out to me, it's like the best part of my day because at somebody. Well sometimes they say nice things, but usually they say nice. Oral lease least they're excited to learn or or something and a lot of times. Those people who reach out to me. They are. Like. The comes at a at a rough time comes at a time. Where like I'm? I've been writing a book. That's not going the way that I wanted to go or some some problem is is. Presenting itself and so by having that that that person email me. There are actually providing me with a great service because they know Mike. Oh well. Maybe I know. Maybe this is just all in my head and L- actually know what's going on. Yeah. That's I mean that's one of the things that I love about how. You know just being part of the community, and you know especially like kamikazes in general. You know I know a lot of people don't like doing common collins because of. Various reasons, but like I love the energy that you get like I always try to do this. I was trying to set up breaking comics or indie comics or wrestling comics, panels and stuff and. It's really great to see the enthusiasm that people have and that definitely can help because. Anybody you know anybody that's making comics. Infra slog and There are definitely days that it wears you down, so it's always good to. I don't know it's always good to be able to to exchange energy with somebody who still. Very very passionate about what they're doing or excited about a project and whatnot, so we'll definitely feel that. Yeah I. think that one of the things that I. I was look at younger creators because I don't have the energy that they have any more like I've I don't have the passion for every like thing or learning the new thing or that thing that they have so one thing that like I find ferry. That I, find a great about a meeting younger creators, and like bringing them into my circle. It's a learning from them, but be like I. Almost have this exchange where like I I get some of their energy and I get like more reinvigorated to do comics or do the show or do a thing while like they're able to like cut a year off of their of their struggle by like learning the things that I've learned at that time, so it can be, it can be parasitic, but at its best. It's quite symbiotic where we're both getting something from that. Yeah I. Mean. I think that's definitely the way to go and I genuinely want to help. People like I feel like my. My struggle I mean I still don't understand my struggle to this day. You know what I mean like I. Swim it. I feel like I've been perpetually swimming upstream since the beginning of journey and.

"You know what I'm going to guess. The Dave Brown was probably fine with W I have a hard time believing the Dave Dave Brown who introduced take our Lord of the volcano went. Hey are those three. He'll groups all dressed in black now. Sorry I'm out I'm done right. Cross the line. They brought us a quality person. A pro's pro when it comes to broadcasting odd casting called Memphis wrestling for decades and look there is nothing. Aws done or has that comes close to any threshold for Dave Brown. He's unflappable but I mean come on. I love Memphis wrestling. It's awesome if you watch it on Youtube but let's not pretend it's wrestling at the chase in nineteen ninety-one would ultimate warrior was gone from Summer Slam. MEMPHIS created a guy with the same makeup and tassels kind of a bodybuilder look and long hair and called him the warrior and if you're wondering if they were trying to confuse most people they literally used a picture of the ultimate warrior Jim Hellwig on the graphic to promote his debut at the mid South Coliseum and this warrior. I don't even know who he was. If you know. Let me know tweet. Jim Valley Even cut a promo so I'm guessing Dave Brown is Fine Orange Cassidy or anybody else. Actually you know something versus the Warrior Award on Wwe. I think I would rather have the Memphis Memphis Warrior award. You don't have to be ultimate to be a warrior. y'All have him come up. Maybe his wife Tammy Memphis Warrior could give the award. You know what it's not a bad idea. Okay let's table that we should give out the first ever Memphis Warrior award to someone who's deserving someone who's worked hard and deserves the honor by the look it up on Youtube it's under us. W you can see it yourself. I am not. I'm not even making that up. And not being critical Memphis had so much talent Jimmy Valiant Dutch mantell Jolie Duke Bill Dundee the fabulous ones the rock and Roll Express Jerry lawler the dream machine gene ridiculous amounts of talent and they also made people better than they were and they did a lot with a lot of creativity and not a lot the money and they did tremendous work so I'm not taking anything away from them when I point these things out. I'm just saying that I'm sure. Dave Brown's is fine with Memphis and he's fine with with a he w let's keep it all in in perspective. Both can be awesome at the same time. I Love Memphis. I support a w they're not mutually exclusive. So I'm actually looking forward to Dave Brown on Awa dark this weekend. Early Wednesday are Tuesdays Tuesday on dark Looking forward to that look forward to the ceremony looking forward to all of it. I guess. EXCALIBUR IMITATES Lance Russell. I hope it works. I hope I hope it works out well and it comes off perfectly perfect. I really am rooting for everybody in this situation. MEMPHIS is the best. If you've never watched it it's all on Youtube it's all categorized pretty much by year. You can pretty much follow it. From basically nineteen seventy nine all the way to the end for the most part and they do some incredible things that bill and buddy show is awesome awesome where Bill Dundee and buddy landale come out and bring out a table and a desk and basically hijack the show and start announcing and that angle led to last sell out ever for mid South Wrestling for Memphis wrestling at the mid South Coliseum so tremendous work brilliant brilliant stuff but it was ridiculous sometimes particularly Jerry. lawler he loved the Comic Book Stuff. So that's why you got. Dr Frank can Freddie Krueger and I will say this you know some the Freddie Krueger. It sounds terrible. But Tommy Gilbert made it work. He is playing it beautifully. He got over with a Freddy Kruger mask. Something that sounds ridiculous and cringe and low rent. He he made it work through his experience and his knowledge. And honestly I mean Tommy Gilded a lot of cool stuff but that some of that psychology login to do it with your face covered up like that and that's probably up. There in my mind was some of his best work as far as quality wise and shows a German already used this show the wrestling Iq. So I'm sure Dave Brown is totally cooled by the way it's being Lance Russell In Two thousand sixteen at Cauliflower Alley I was lucky enough to talk to Lance Sunshine. Great Guy back. And he arranged a half hour interview I did with Lance and I have it on my soundcloud I tweeted it out. I'll tweet it out again. We don't talk about Andy Kaufman. We don't talk about all the usual stuff we cover completely different things by design and probably the highest compliment I could ever get is when we were done Bowl Shane and land said as one of the best interviews. I've done I mean Russell outside of wrestling a broadcasting God and hear that from him even if he was lying at least he was nice enough to do do that so I'll read tweeted out. It's good it's like I said it's about a half hour. If you WANNA hear Lance Russell definitely check that out and one more thing with the death of Pampero firpo cauliflower alley. I was searching on Youtube and pepper. Virgo was honored by in two thousand one and someone shot the video. It's not the best video but it's good enough and everybody puts over pamper for both Antonio Inoki hokey puts over Pampero Danny Hodge Luther. Says knickknack winkle Bobby Heenan literally like a dozen legends in this tape. As is that Pampero verbal gives his speech Amazing all the re tweet that one out again too. But if you're not a member of Cauliflower Alley I one. Oh my pet causes. It's A. It's a nonprofit. And they give money every year two wrestlers in need not a lot a.

"There was a return of shame. Yeah there was a return of John Morrison Russo. There was the return of the USA. Does filthy. Tom Lawlor was proven to be a prognosticator. I'm not a fool. We'll talk about that tomorrow. Okay and the overnight ratings for the show. Speaking of crest skin to use a dated seventies reference might pulled out of his buttocks. Yes I was dead on with this prediction for smackdown. Two point four one seven million viewers. Exactly I even had the one seven when I made that prediction two point. Four one seven million years for the show. That's that is where smackdown is they have two point four million people. They're going to watch the show live every week. Take and some weeks will very slightly up. Some weeks will be very slightly down. It is not a disaster of a number. It's not that great a number but that's the number ever so you know what I would not be surprised. One bid if also settles in a two point four million and we have smackdown and raw both both doing two point four million which quite frankly is worse for smackdown than raw because smack Dana's on Fox and Ross on the USA network smackdown should all all things being equal have a greater audience but they are back to being what they are which is quite frankly the be show GonNa Accept Anybody tomorrow predicting thing when smackdown going to get canceled do you think that's a bold prediction. Yeah if they're settling in a two point four million. That's a bold prediction that smacked him would be cancelled not that bold because like if they drop in drop in drop like the over the past couple of years and maybe it could be cancelled but hey listen he can make any prediction you want you can make a bad prediction. You will have no hope of winning. You must make a bold prediction now order to win. Wait till you hear my bold prediction tomorrow. Forget about your bold prediction tomorrow for this upcoming year. What about last year? 'cause you keep talking about the fact that you're about to crown yourself but if who who who left you died and left you king of the predictions here. How do you know you were going to win? Have you mentioned to everyone in a way. I think I'm GonNa what's your winner is why because I made made a pretty bold as you. It wasn't even that bowl. I just kind of figured it would happen and it did and I if you over the predictions that we read from last year. We're like nobody guide anything right and so if that's the same thing this year if nobody even came close to anything that I win by default because I was right eight so we'll find out tomorrow. Maybe somebody had a really bold prediction. That's GONNA blow my mind but we'll find out your we'll find out on the show. Oh tomorrow tear win. Last year two years ago I feel like she won't every year we have a tribute to memphis wrestling. Taking part onto my Dave Brown will be appearing and calling. Dark and Excalibur will be trying as best he can to call it as close to Lance Russell as possible on that show. Oh my God. Jim cornets loses ever loving. Mind here in that part of the deal with Excalibur excalibur. Look man and this is what I'm asking. You is somebody that didn't grow up with Lance and David they were like Unicorns to me so when I finally got a chance to see Memphis I finally get to experience variance when everybody was talking about. Don't screw it up. Don't get in Davis Way. Don't do too much all right. Davey just don't have to act too much like like a fool. Just tried to play it honorable and let Dave Carey it okay. He's done this before he'll be okay. We have got Doug Gilbert appearing into me and Eddie Gilbert Shane Russell landers son will be there to help on Lance Russell. Any there to help honor his father Angelo and brother Randy Savage Austin. It's an idol Jimmy Valiant also scheduled Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton will be there Randy Hales Brandon. Baxter working. Then the camera moves like it comes back on and all that stuff. He worth It it. laid out nothing. They all what happens if we know we go over there, vets with regard to paint nucle-. But if it works it works into didn't didn't, but it works. But let's let's bring back to today's current day wrestling because you said something you about Lance Russell of language that was a little bit strong for TV back in that day. And basically when you go back to the old television tapings air, and Memphis that whole show from men for years and years, and when I was passionate through there, certainly in regards to language that was the PG territory, nobody was Cussing carrying on. And no get wrong there. Lots of blood blade jobs, but take that out of the question, y'all had a bad ass show. So my point is I mean, this logic or this gal booking could still be, you know, a part of today's wrestling landscape because you don't want to do anything. Crazy. Did you just tell them stories, but you presented an a serious shoot. Style fashion. Now, many people knew the business was at work back. Then obviously everybody knows it's a work these days, but my point is man, if you just present wrestling from a serious standpoint, or that's your basis as everyone knows it's work, but you present a serious project a product and not everybody's laughing gig win and a bunch of BS storylines that that gets that's still works today. "Production from Hollywood gal by way of the broken skull ranch. This is the Steve Austin show. Gimme a hell. Yeah. Now, here's Steve Austin Harada Steve out and show. I occurred. I don't make Asian recharge batteries. But just because I am recharging the batteries. We still got business. Take care of. In the meantime, we'll be playing some of the most requested Steve outs and show classics and been locked away in the archives. I got a great one for you this week. And here's my producer shown to tell you all about it readings and welcome to classic episode of the Steve Austin show producer, Sean bringing you episode number one forty one with superstar Bill Dundee original air date. August twelfth two thousand fourteen Steve's got a lot of classic. Memphis wrestling personalities in his catalog, and I think it's definitely important to revisit that territory and bring those out here on the classic episodes because it's isn't really cool stuff that Steve hawks about with these guests. So you might be hearing some more of those as we go along. But for this week its superstar Bill Dundee wrestler that was very instrumental in Steve's development in the. Texas and Tennessee. Territories working under Jerry Jarrett and world class and US w way. Bill Dundee a big start his own right in that area. Having many epic battles with Jerry Lawler either across the ring or as a tag team, which will talk about just a second here. But you've got to catch up with Bill Dundee here on this episode. Get some of our presence in the late eighties in the territory as well as a manager in does w in one thousand nine hundred three for Lord William regal. He was known as Sir William back, then but Steve definitely talks about as epic feud with Jerry Lawler Bill Dundee was also in a scaffold match. Not found thing was the first Catholic match, but it was definitely one of the earliest scaffold matches that happened against none. Other than cocoa, beware. Or as he was known as KoKo ware. Also, see talks with Bill about the to below concession stand brawl as mentioned Bill and Jerry Lawler are often adversaries, but also tag team partners. And in this, particular instance, the duo took on the blonde bombers Larry late them and Wayne fair. Better known as Moondog spot and the honky tonk man in epic event known as he Tupelo concession stand brawl, and this was nine hundred seventy nine and if you could find footage of it on YouTube, which is out there. It's quite the event commentated on by the legendary Lance Russell, and a lot of people say that it was kind of one of those small events that set the course for EC w at hardcore wrestling, as we know it today just crazy brawling all throughout the concession stand. And there is tables and stools and mustard being thrown everywhere. So she check that out Bill Dundee awesome wrestler, and he is the guest today on a classic episode of the Steve Austin show today Steve.

"To. I was gonna pay for the whole thing. But but anyway, the point is this was not even wrestling related ice. I forwarded. Yeah. To another friend of our? Yeah. Who is involved with risk? Yes. In Senate to him and said, hey, because I had already told him actually the guy. I talked to me I talked to him. I said I'm gonna send you a link because I know you, you know, you heath they're closer their clothes like you. And I are he said cool. Yeah. Man, send it along. So I sent it to him and it kinda got shared around a little bit among the wrestling community. But this was this was your personal friends away from wrestling pastors doing something nice for you and your family. And that's I I I don't care what any kind of video anybody else puts up I spend my money because I got it more than that guy. Does all day long? Right. I can spend my money, and I know your friends we can spend our money. However, we want to I don't need his permission. And I don't need him to like it. Right. And you don't need his permission. And you don't need him to like it. Right. If maybe if you were a better person than if if you posted something, then people would contribute to right? So that's all I got to say about this was not a wrestling thing. This was he's personal friends decided that they were going to do something for him. And we can do whatever we want to do and don't need. I don't need. Nobody and wrestling's permission. I don't need. Nobody outside of wrestling permission to do something. Nice for my friend. And neither does anybody else. Craig, and I yet so we didn't lie and say this is going to be to pay for this. And then decide to use the money for a trip to Disney. We always knew that we were going to grind contributing to sending you and your family to Disney World. I got no problem with that. Yeah. And. Yeah. And. So like, so many there's like one half of this story. Like, none of the church people even know about this video right about this, dude. And I've tried to. You know, keep injury or. But I it has been, but I will say this when you know. When you know that somebody has. I I'm not making excuses for anything. I've said or done. But what happened weighed on me in? Wait on me. It's weighed on me emotionally and its effective me. And and I don't want to give that person the satisfaction the satisfaction that I wanna have. And I and I apologize for this satisfaction. Is that people loved me so much and rallied around my family so quickly in so fully in a way that they will never rally around that young. And that he lost his mind. Like, he I have never heard such vitriol and anger in hate through. And and gist. But to know like it is kind of like Seinfeld, George, you know, there's this girlfriend. Jerry's who hates George so much. He falls in love with her like, Jerry. And I'll just like to know that. I mean, I I hope everybody. Because there were so many pa- were so many positive people. I don't want him to know about what happened in like I feel like that's but anyway, people who've been great I love people Allah people in wrestling. I love people outside of wrestling people have been great to me. And you know, what the last probably, you know, it's been two months today since we buried, my wife, really and. Or excuse me, two months since her service may not only me get my dates mixed up. It's been too much and the world. Has not gotten is not getting the best of Heathrow Alkan these last two months, and I and I know everybody understands that. And I know listen, everybody's been cutting me slack. I appreciate it. But I do feel like. I wanna say this Marc, I do appreciate Mark that on some things. He does cut me slack. But when he sees me in here's me. Heading taking steps toward being a person that I am not. That that means a lot to me. I don't want to be a negative person. And I wanna be a positive person. I wanna be a light. In the darkness. I don't need. I don't need no contract. You got you got the clash of the champions combing day sign on the dotted line. You side too. All I need is a hug and kiss the name. I don't need you to beg another scum sucking. He. How exciting. The your part. So I, you know, NF I feel like to we have not talked about this. I feel like. Social media. We why do we watch wrestling? We all watch wrestling because at some point in our life in our childhood it captivated us. We loved we fell in love with it. We like we would I would tie Bain Dana's around my legs and razzle invisible. Men in my basement daily. You know, we made cardboard belts. We bought the magazines we hung up the posters. We bought the video games. We I mean, we like we set our schedule sick about this. Wrestling was appointment television where there was noon on Saturday. Noon Sunday, six oh five on Saturday night eleven thirty for Saturday night's main event. Wrestling was appointment television during the attitude air, eight o'clock, Monday nights, people got to get there used to be watched parties, we got we. We we got into wrestling because there was something about it that captivated this. And I feel like social media. Has everything's just become so negative and so many wrestling podcast, including this one has become about what's wrong with wrestling. And let's listen. Let's start a new day. I didn't mean. But I like, I don't wanna watch. When we talk about all the time. I don't I don't watch WWE. I mean, we're gonna talk about resume any today. I'm gonna watch wrestlemainia not great leaks side. I'm more excited to see my friends watched wrestlemainia with some friends than I am. I'm more side about let's find let me just find something. You like life's too short to watch bad wrestling and get drug down by bad people. It is. And I don't even know that they're bad people. I I don't know them. So I'm not that's what other than the guy who made the video. I don't have any use for him. He's proven to me that he's a bad person. Yes. What I see from the other side of it. Yeah. Told you this? I always take you to task you make you make you make a comment. Criticizing would what somebody else has put a lot of hard work into. So for them to get upset when somebody criticizes it at work. I don't have a issue with that. If you're gonna courtesy is them, then you have to be willing to take them. But I just it's not worth getting drug drug done in the pit. You know what I mean to me? It's not I don't want any part of that. As I told you I don't ever if that's what our show is going to become. I don't wanna be that. Then I don't wanna be that. And I don't want to do it. I just think you're better than that. And and I'm I don't know them. So I'm not going to criticize their character. Anything? I don't I don't I don't know anything about them some of the people that said stuff. Do you have always been really nice to me right to my face? I can't criticize. It's just I think, you know. And and you know. I think you said it earlier in and I really took this to heart. Is my the the tweet was was a wrestling was booking criticism. And I do think it's a point to be taken because I'm the same way with this podcast or the or the, you know, the network or whatever we do when people criticize your art, your creative outlet, you do take that personally. Right. And I don't so I meant no definitely didn't want to disparage anybody's character or personality. Because that's not good night. That's not wanna wanna be about. I I we had a long talk about question. I questioned the logic of some of some looking and. We have you know, we had a really good. Conversation about about that. And I don't want again. I don't want to be. I don't want to be you know, negative, and I I don't need any. Yeah. Anyway, I don't know. I'm trying to say now other than we're moving forward. You know? I I I. My blocked the people that need to block. And again, I'm not, you know, it was it just was a lot of noise when you're just getting constant notifications. And it's not people. Okay. You know, it's not people just you know, if you want to criticize, hey, your, your podcast sucks, or your commentary sucks. That's okay. But like. Year bad person, you're bad, dad. You're you know, what that's I don't have time for that. You know? And if somebody says, you know what? He he tried this. Try this on your podcast, try the Sonia commentary constructive criticism. And yeah. So that's I want to be positive as we're surrounded here by some of our great rece-, some of the ones go dusty Rhodes Terry funk Harley race, Jake the snake. Ric flair Lance Russell hooting the blowfish Herman, Mick Foley. Jim. Ralph Baker gunner and heath mother. Yeah. So.

"It's like five bucks and a piece of candy. I'm like the fuck you doing cornet? It's a fucking quarter. You go on the couch. You get a fuck and quarter for a tooth five bucks. And candy. No wonder this kid's freaking out. She's fucking spoil. She. Yes. She's like, well, where's the money? Come from. If the fuck and ferry income. Coronets like, well, at least there are rabbits. There's a possibility that there could be. That's right. He's I looked up chimney. A guy could come down my chimney. He's at least there's historical evidence. Like, Saint Nicholas was a guy. Sort of related unrelated. I'm hooked. That's I know. It's great corn an acronym. I was watching this video that was basically like someone had put together the clips that that lead to the the match the hair versus hair match with Lawler and Austin idol where it was the final. The final match was like if. Idle one she got to shave lawler's head and get the belt and if Lawler one. Idol had to pay back everyone's entrance fee like in any whatever. God. That's it goes all the way back to it goes somehow it went from it goes from like Tommy rich to Austin idol who gets the shot, but the start of this video like the one of the first promos fucking Tommy rich who had one of the most severe haircuts in the history of time. Just like, you know, I always say like, you know, Pete Rose looks like he cut his hair with the hatchet. But this is just like it's so hard, but the promo that he cuts with fucking Lance. Russell is so abysmal. It's like, you know, whenever the there's always the like, well, you just gotta let these guys go out there. Just just give them some points. And all yeah. And he just he comes out and immediately goes, I just wanna say I'm gonna be in, you know, Paducah tonight. So you should come down to Paducah like Hugh remembered he needed to like tell people to come to the show that night. I can't remember the town. And then. And he's it's such a pet that is the thing. Whether like, you know, they just need bullet points. Let him go out there and fucking do it. But it's like not everybody's RIC flair and dusty Rhodes, right? You know, and an or Jim cornet. And here's the thing. Not everybody's fucking John sina or the rock or the guys that they would hand the fucking scripted promo to and they could go out and fucking deliver it, right? That's not. That's not the argument that if he had had a script he would have done any better. It's just that all the way round it was bad. But he didn't know what he was supposed to jure. Right. It was very apparent. But it ain't the scripting of the promos. It's the guy delivering the promo. Yeah. You know? It's that being said though, maybe if they were thrown out there to the fucking wolves. You're you're forced to figure it out a little bit quicker instead of just trying to recite something that you memorized. Right. And there is that thing of like, if if you are established in then you're trying to say stuff that you wouldn't say or or something that doesn't fit. Sure, you know, Rhonda rows these out there, cutting a promo like I'm like, I it's fucking brutal. And for me watching her at hurts. It hurts me. It hurts her value in my eyes as as a fan. Yeah. At hurts as a performer like cringing of how awkward and bad. It's going. Yeah. But mostly it's one of those things where like, you know, the week where Becky gets his. We're Becky gets her. We're Vince puts a squash on Becky, right, right? And the whole night is is Becky going apologize. When rhonette confronts Becky backstage. It was the exact same delivery you had from Rhonda and Stephanie on Monday where it feels like the direction Rhonda is getting is. We need you to be sympathetic or there's it's just what the face and the tone the face. It looks like she's about to cry like, she kind of crinkles the eyebrows up, and she's just like and just it's it's brutal. Brutal. Brutal. Yeah. But anyway, so this this video packages. Memphis is always good..

"Rolling along towards midnight. Here we are. Gamble and Finn reality check on a Wednesday normally Thursday, and we will be tomorrow night. After you see Memphis tips at seven post game typically ends around nine thirty. So we'll take you from that point up to midnight to the ATM comedian. Josh need has been in with us all evening tonight. We're on Wednesdays and Thursdays all during this. Yeah. And thank you for doing that. Yeah. Josh then again recap his resume. Do we have do? We have enough time for this thing. Stand up comedian. Yup. Entrepreneurs since he's shirts social media director for what brands mental heads and mentos do they ever since. I did some work for buffalo trace Wisconsin last year. Okay. Really? All right. Did I ever send you like the occasional extra tube mentos because? Yeah. A fan of the mentos member. Kamara couldn't play at Tennessee. Correct. Continue airhead the okay. So let's see there's that. And then professional troll is that the bottom I used to enjoy the troll back in back in the wrestling days when you're a wrestling fan. Not as much as I used to be. But in college. Yeah. In college, we were really into it. The stone cold in W O stone called the rock those days aim here, and we would pre internet. We would go to events and we would. We would share for the wrestlers that everybody else hate it. And we would make signs that were meant to upset. Whatever city we were in because we would travel and so that's why I feel like. This isn't going to the butthurt isn't going to stop because I can speak from experience. There's there's something fun about stirring, the pot. Yeah. I think you're onto that on Facebook. We were in we were in Detroit watching king of the ring, and we had sign that said support foreign automakers. In detroit. Oh my God. How did you get out alive? Well, we we got escorted out. Really? Yeah. You know in a crowd chance a whole like a referee or an opposing player hottest was at you guys. This was my fridge. Dave. Oh, yeah. He was conducting them like he was the music director of a chorus and they were between matches because they had him. They knew who we were because all of our signs hockey is fake. Long live rocky Marciano because we are at Joe Louis arena. And we got we got really into upsetting people. And even if even if it was funny, it would still upset people. We were in Louisville. This is maybe my favorite sign. We had a sign that said eastern makes a better. Which while still makes me laugh to this day? But see here's the best part. Z to upset people sluggers are made over in Indiana or they were at the time. So that's even better. But what's wrong with that? I mean that can you imagine some of that today? But think about this. What's so funny is at the same time. There are wrestlers that come out with a microphone in their entire job is to inflame the local because they walk. I mean, this has been going on since the the old Dave Brown, Lance Russell days when they would come out and just slam the city or Memphis it happened. It happened at the Royal rumble in Arizona two weeks ago. The first guy that was out there for the rumble was talking to everybody. And he says someone should take a picture and send it to the Diamondbacks. So they can see what this place looks like when it's full. Awesome. That's great. The other night. I was after the Super Bowl. This is something about I don't even know why bother talking to you. This town isn't even important enough to have a football team. I mean, it's just that kind of stuff, and I love that. But people cheer that on and and love that that face versus villain guy. I think it's putting wrestling. I think that's more. I mean, wouldn't you even though they they asked Gordon you out and chanted a whole they probably enjoyed that. That's the thing is no real to some people that it genuinely upsets them. Now. Do you think that what you did because you weren't a wrestler, and they expect that from them and their plan along in their in on that joke? They get they think that's okay. But because you did it as a fan different different mosaic take tanking personally part. Right. Where we started. Yeah. Bow. There's always gonna be that. It's still real to me guy. Oh, yeah. And and people there with their kids who are cheering for the wrestlers that they're supposed to be cheering for daddy. Why is this guy cheering for the bad guy? You know now he's got. Either explained it has like he's a jerk or because he's got a really good sense of humor. Well, I would tell you this. And you talk about that being pre internet. I would go to matches at Louisville gardens very certain the same ones came here to Cincinnati gardens before TV really was that big. And they did they were all house matches. None of a more televised and there'd be people in their seventies. And eighties and the first couple rose all the way around the ring with their canes losing their minds completely out of their minds buying in one hundred percent and the wrestlers would come out and spit on them and throw throw drinks at each other. And they cuss them out. Stupid old man. It was the greatest I always call it. The the Broadway series for rednecks because it was the greatest. The theater for the dumb, including myself. My gosh, it was probably like a well known at WWF or something like, oh, no. This was this was Jerry Lawler when he was still wrestling and Bill Dundee and those old guys gamble. You. Probably. Remember peels palace? Wrestling at peels how those people out boxing wrassling all kinds of stuff, but they bought in hook line, and sinker. It was so great and those guys had to just be laughing their asses off, but the back but to tie a bow on it. That's what I think. That's why I think there's never this isn't ever going to stop is that it's it's too much fun to upset people. Yeah. Easy. And now, it's too easy. It doesn't even have to be clever. It just has to be available. But you know, what it's not that sort of upsetting people. It's the overriding serious nature that people take every THEO. And it goes back to what we started the program with our people can't take a joke. Yeah. They can't. They can't just say, okay. Well, I want to invent a product called skin thickener. I do and I want to market it out just to thicken your skin because I think we've become a nation full of jellyfish. We really have you can almost see our veins we become so thin skinned. But that is perfect bow on Josh view. You nailed it. We're gonna talk to our last call right now or coming up here in a couple of minutes, George Vogel from channel five boss. You're welcome to hang around for that. And we can all run down to the garage together. And see what part of gambles car falls? Somebody please follow me home. Just in case. A fish you out of them. Yeah. Would you follow him? Please take four doughnuts with you. That have air in them. Vogel's next is the last call continues and wraps up this week or this Wednesday extra bonus edition of the weekly reality check..

"J A, double R E double J, Jeff Jarrett. But that's okay. Jared. I gotta tell ya, man. I've got a lot of respect for the wrestling community because you guys are athletes. You gotta constantly work out. And I actually work with a guy here at the radio station. That's in the developmental stop. It you better stop talking, Shannon. The dude. All right. All right now, let's get to what the event is Saturday talk to me. Cooper. Appreciate guys have me. All yes, sir. It's a little bit of a throwback for me almost a flashback Friday, if you will getting into the Bolivian jargon. But no tomorrow night. I was born and raised. I used to come to lower gardens every Tuesday night for seven or eight years. My family promoted their seventy but we're going back to a high school gymnasium. Everybody knows Kentucky has schoolwork right there. Just a few miles away to the east of logo. Everybody knows Henry county high school, but it's a great calls Ray of hope benefit families that are dealing with pediatric cancer. We've got a it's unbelievable card tomorrow night. It's fundraiser set the GM set the ring up right there in a high school gym like we used to do and everything kicks off at seven thirty VIP at five thirty. But yeah, I again, it's a it's a huge night. Some folks right there locally from Ohio valley wrestling out snow at his career. Also, rob Conway the war kings cowboy James storm. We've got a great car top to bottom. We got ladies Russ. We've got flyers a little bit of everything professional wrestling in the state of Kentucky almost go is much handed hands you do with basketball. But I I'll happily play a close second. Absolutely. All right. Jeff jarrett. I've got a question for you. Everybody knows WWF WWE in the explosions the whole big it's a rock concert. But if you had to choose one on what represents wrestling better. Would it be the WWE type or would it be Tuesday night of the gardens with Lance? Russell a day Brown. It's almost like do you like basketball with or without a three point shot? I've gotta get throwing them out. Now. Mike, and I like it. Why is that? It's all professional wrestling. You can call it professional wrestling. You can call it, torture entertainment. You can call it. What you like there's a lot of different flavors. It's like some folks. Like college basketball, something like pro basketball me myself. I am very much pure star. I love my my my kids to play basketball last night. I was just at a middle school game. So it really depends on what you like them today. It's all about scoring all about defense where you folks in Kentucky know, nothing about defense..

"Who is mean Jean of the NHL past or presence? You know, first of all I would say that there's a guy in wrestling who didn't get enough credit because he wasn't national. And that guy's name was Lance Russell. Yes. And Lance Russell in Memphis. And if you ever watched some of that old stuff, and I periodically have looked into it. How angry he gets when the good guy gets attacked or beaten up or something like that. It is hilarious guys. Lance was great Gordon soley was never as big a Gordon soli guy is crimson mass. All the vernacular. And I'm not, okay. He was spectacular. But I would say Lance Russell was up there with Jean. He was right up there. When I was a kid, and you got the mid Atlantic in Toronto, I loved Bob coddle and David Crockett. That's what it was. I love those guys, but Russell milk and the best hockey it's different because. How many long form interviews where a player really lets loose? Can you get I would probably have to say oak because my go-to because he does it. So well after hours he does it so great and on the ice after the Stanley Cup. He does it. So great oak would have to be my guy. And I think the reason is he gets the opportunity and he takes advantage of the opportunity. You know when you are doing after hours or UC Scotto after you've won the Stanley Cup. You have to you know, what you're getting into you know, it this is going to be and the players except that. And I think that's a credit to what Scott is done. You know, what you're getting into? And you're accepting getting into that. If we can bring it back to me, gene. If you're gonna go down the YouTube rabbit hole with meaning Oakland to me, my favorite. Maybe the best one was the one he did with mad dog show. In the mad dog Awa mad dog of Sean crusher, Jerry Blackwell feud, where he's building the coffin for black while it is some of the best work by mean, gene, who is over the top fantastic. Always. Just a minute fat dog. Mad punk Sean been looking high and low for you and hear what? What was here I had to run down bad dog. Obviously some things that we've had that talk about you've been totally unavailable. Hands up if you are listening to this podcast right now in thinking, what is with these to leave. Okay. Back to questions about hockey nNcholas Orrin bowl submits. This who is the most underrated player in the league. My go-to is always Mataya SICOM..

"I know I know, you know, as soon as I heard about the passing of gene, Oakland, I thought of you because I thought well, I need to talk to someone that grew up watching, gene. And I remember for those that don't know I grew up watching burns Awa wrestling because Chicago is a stronghold for the w eight during that time. So I saw Jean as a kid in the mid to late seventies. When did you first see gene Oakland on your television would have been roughly nineteen eighty s when I started watching. And I just it's crazy to think you don't think about it at the time when you're watching what big part of it. He is. And then he leaves to go to the WWF at the time. And then it was obvious. You know, they they lost HOGAN and eventually Bob winkle, but certainly heated which. Those were big losses. But there was just something about the identity and the fabric of the Awa that changed when Gino one left he was different. And that's not necessarily a shot at Larry, Nelson or Ralph strategist Eric Bischoff who came in after him. Ken Resnick to who is very solid. I just I just thought Jason that he was the glue to everything for gene because jeans there and similar to Lance Russell and Memphis. You could just see how Jean could be able to just help the wrestler out with the interview. It's one thing to have a good promo. Also good to have someone on the Mike that can kind of steered the interview, I think that gene was very good at that. He apps. Yeah. Without question. Yeah. That was one of his many strengths. And I would say another was the credibility. You know, anyone can hyper wrestling show. Yeah. Everyone's done a mock impersonation of the of the promo for that. Or like a big monster truck event or something, but he had credibility with the viewers. And so when he spoke about this looks like a big event that's coming up. You believed him. And by the way, I know that as an Awa fan growing up. I did hurt me to see Jean go over to W W have because I'm thinking at the time. Why why is he doing this? But at the same time Roger Kent worked for Vince rod Tron guard worked for Vince. So Al Russia will the one of the producers work for Vince. So that's it was that surprise you at the time. But I think that when I saw him come over the one thing I noticed about jeans career in the in the WWF more. So than the is that he did a lot more play by play slash color with gorilla monsoon. If you you remember that in Madison Square Garden of the Toronto shows as well and maple leaf gardens. Did a lot of that? I'm I'm wondering your thoughts on him as a play by play guy knew he was great guy on the on the Mike as an interviewer. But do you remember him doing play by play? You know, I honestly don't have much memory of that. I just didn't get to see many of those shows for me. He was always. When he went to the WWF. It was cool to see them reunited with Bobby Heenan and hulk HOGAN again, but I I also just remember him just being a handball is getting to take part in some skits with Heenan and different things. Like that that you didn't see in the Awa was just more WWF flavor. But that'd be so you're saying was he was he actually go to on play-by-play, you think. So I think that is you remember in the eighties in somewhat of the ninety s every move was a walk off home run. And for gene, a lot of that, you know, take down, and and the other thing that resonated with me so much is that he came from radio background that rich voice that gene had. You'll always remember because that's a radio voice, that's on television. And so I thought his play by play was pretty solid always hype to know a lot of stuff at the spectrum stuff with guerrilla Square Garden. But I mean, just all around terrific announcer. I thought yeah. And it's funny. The Awa that must've been there thing because Larry Nelson was certainly radio and voice over guy. I believe real strategist was as well for that must've been a formula. They had when it came to picking that. I don't I don't remember what Ken Resnick's background was. And it's funny when you you're running through the list of people who moved to the WWF, and the Awa even jeans replacement Resnick, eventually did everyone that they had that was worth something, and you know, for the most part ended up going to work there. Absolutely. So Jason about gene had you ever get to interview, gene or meet, gene? I met Jean briefly very accommodating, very friendly. But unfortunately, never had an opportunity to interview him. I talked to him when nitro was in town at the United Center in nineteen. Nine hundred ninety eight ninety nine around the same time. Yes. So as a side business, by the way, I'm going to send you my cassette tapes. So I took it find interview for me. So I could play it. I mean, I'll give you a cassette. If you want to transfer to DVD for me or the CD for me. I don't even know if I have the equipment, but I may know someone who does. I talked to him, and he was more interested in in the radio side of things. I talked to him about fifteen minutes. What he said to me? Jason is this like, well, I talked to he didn't call Eric Bischoff. Eric he called him, Eric. He said, yeah, I talked to Eric about doing more radio because radio still matters. And you still talking to me about that? And and ninety eight saying that he wanted WCW to have more radio awareness or more spots on the radio. So I thought that that conversation was interesting. You talked about his career in radio with me not allow about wrestling more lines of what I was doing which comes across as a really nice guy. Gene. That's the thing. He's one of those guys, you know, you you don't hear it often in the wrestling industry. But he's one of those guys people don't have bad things to say about, you know, and he had a fun loving wild side to whom he was certainly not afraid to go out and let loose with RIC flair. But you just don't hear those bad, gene ochre when stories he was everybody's buddy. I don't remember. I don't remember anyone sending a bad word. That's a good trait, by the way to not find anything wrong or anyone saying anything bad about which is great. Do you? What do you? Call things out with dynamite kid. What are you remember about his his run with WCW because as a longtime guy with Vince, he goes over to WCW as you mentioned with hulk with Bobby Heenan, which seems to be a trend. Right. They all come out in the same company. So what do you remember about him in WCW, you know, honestly, the hotline more than anything, and it's sad because he became lived up to the whole scheme, gene moniker. 'cause they always had them go out there and deliver a deceptive headline clogs at all this different stuff. But I remember I it's not like it was all that and WCW, but I certainly have fond memories of him in the Awa the WWF, and I do what they did with him and nitro I think that that he he Naan and Oakland always had chemistry. We saw that at at times in the Awa even though Nick balk winkle didn't necessarily need a mouthpiece. I just think that heathen when you talk to Oakland was great. But I think it just went to a hole. Different level in the WWF the skits that they did doing shows together the syndicated television shows he did chasing that stuff was gold. Absolutely. Yeah. I I mean, just imagine the things those who are doing here is they catch up, hopefully, you'd have to integrate beyond, but yeah, that you're get if you're longtime old enough Awa fan. I'm sure some of it bothered some people because anything that was like sports entertainment flavor for an older generation was just a huge turn off. But they were so good at it. But I I I even know some like much types, it still got a kick out of seeing Bobby G and do their thing together. Just remarkable chemistry between them and Jason had to be man. It had to be tougher gene to where that tuxedo. Twenty four seven with inventors era now that every time you looked around. He had a tuxedo on that was a time in the early eighties mid eighties. I mean, that's all he I don't remember a long time from him very often. Slept in it. Right. I mean, everything was in a tuxedo. All all those promos. He did all those cities across the country. There was him in the boats. I and the the whole tuxedo. What a what a time to be alive as the wrestling fan during that time. Oh, I was. Yeah. I mean, those were some the Awa was a blast. But just those early years of the WWF, even though there were so many people grumbling about cartoon wrestling and all that, and I certainly understand some of that. But man, there were some really good times in there too. And then those two handed in Oakland when we're just such a huge part of it last thing on Jean. I just want to find out what you think his legacy is in the business as far as all the broadcasters that you've seen over the years where where do you place him? What is his legacy in the business? I think he's the gold standard for what he did it being the interviewer. I I always want to say backstage interviewer, but in the Awa days it, well, you know, it was more studio type of thing. And even the WWF when he was kind of. Manning the ship for those spots show for almost or how show promos and things like that. Just anything, you know, as an interviewer. I struggled to think of anyone that really had the charm the witch just everything that he brought to the table. I might forgetting anyone Jonathan that even comes close. No, I think that there is a different gravitas between him and say, Gordon soley. And again, we're talking about two different things here because we're talking about a backstage interviewer, that's that was jeans niche more so than anything else. I mean again decent play by play guy. But I think that no one else did what he did think about all of the announcers over the years. Jason more times not the play by play guy had to have the gene role. Also had to do the interview. Whether it's Georgia class, whatever that way, Memphis. Yeah. It's different. It's different. And that's when you say the gold standard, it's different because other companies did not have a gene that could be. Able to push the cards that can that made you and actually more. So than the wrestlers he sold you on one to go to an event, you know, whether it's at the Mets are Rosemont horizon. He was always there within the event center with those things. So I think that that's what makes him so unique. Oh, the met each brought back. Some good memories. Yeah. Really did. It'd be the Saint Paul Civic Center all of that. He just again, he had that credibility that when he started in some of the two he was gone for the dying days of the Awa would have been interesting how much credibility he would've lost had. He stuck around for those, and he's, you know, hyping lousy card or something special, but we didn't have to live through that. He he pretty much. Always was. Would they good stable company? You know, but he made he was left at the right time. And sure nitro by the end wasn't the same. But neither what is his role. Jonathan hood ESPN one thousand and the ESPN app. Selfless service.
