Yes, saying and they made it happen. Big play big time players make big time players and big times games, man. All right. So you got the Joe and Joe show but tomorrow with a J, You got the J show, Huh? Everybody. First name begins with a J. Joe borrow 20 or 27 to 61 2 touchdowns. You've got a century in the air, A century guy on the ground and a pastor for over 2 60 can tell you, uh, there were a bunch of Grady's Yeah, A bunch of Grady's out there. I mean, you guys regretting your tails who one degree contest out there? That's him, Mr Morrow. I've got some work to do, but it's coming along. You know what I'm saying? It's coming along you go. Just go Look at the film when I scored trying to spin it real quick and get up in here like that was good stuff. The trio the force him, including Dave Lap of Joe Mix, and Joe Burrow and Jamaar Chase and Dave. In that moment, it had to be pretty cool. Just to sense the excitement of those three coming together really was and I tried to get Joe Burrow one on one and he goes. I got to go to the doctor. I go to the training room and get my ankle checked. So he goes in there gets it all checked and everything because I catch up with you when I come out. Well, he sees that I'm standing there doing the deal with his other two J boys, and he comes over and it's the three of the three Amigos. The three J's j cubed. Uh, you know, it's just what a trio. "And to your point There's no bias in in Vegas. There's no there's no fan. There's no emotional. Yeah, they're just money. It's about money and you do it. So I think the number is is accurate. I think it is fair to say. Zach Taylor. Better be over that number, right? But we're about 6.5. Yes. Um, and also keep in mind. We've talked about this before, and this is the story line is going to follow Joe Burrow. What? We know the significance the importance of the rookie contract window. When you have somebody like Joe Burrow under a rookie contract. You've got that window that if you don't take advantage of it with his rookie paid number, Joe Burrow is going to be eventually the guy who makes picker number 30 year. Whatever it is, Um, if you don't do your work now and take advantage of his lower cap number And use that money. And that's why it's like there's a clock ticking in the back of my head related to Joe Burrow in the Bengals, and it's why I think Zac's in a in a tenuous spot because you don't think you can have any doubt about Zach at the end of this season At the end of Joe's second season, you can't say Well, we're kind of torn on Zach. Let's bring him back for another year. If you're torn on him at the end of this year, then you've got to move on from it. Because time's wasted on Joe Burrows contracts, then you'll have three more years left on his contract. And as we've talked About The formula to win in the NFL is when, while your quarterback is chief Russell Wilson with the Seahawks Pat Mahomes chiefs because because that means you have more money to spend on the rest of roster. And you're right. There is no room Prairie. You can't go into Joe Burrows last year, second last year's contract, saying, I think this is the year we got to know, and we've got to know by January of this year. Alright when we come back, I heard you tell a story this week. You told it before In the years we've done it, But I always love hearing it because, um, I'm always struck by the emotion that players must feel on final cut down day and what it's like waiting. To find out you've made it And you're you're realizing a dream versus you've been cut. And perhaps the dream is over. You have an amazing story of my party cut by the team, which I I can't even comprehend going through that, And I want you to tell the story of Peyton Manning's Hall of Fame induction. What this great it was, like, Can we do all that to it? All right. He is Rocky boy, man. I'm Lance McAllister. We are on this three hour journey that is the furniture Fair Roundtable show. "Manager David Bell You opted to go with Art Warren to bring him back. What have you seen from him? That stands out and does that just kind of fill a need after as many Relievers were used yesterday. Yeah, I mean, art deserves to be here. He's pitching. Well, um, you know, we really liked what we saw in spring training. He spent time with us. You know, in the first two months, either on our active roster or on the taxi squad got to work closely with our coaches. Sweet. We've seen him. Comfortable with him. We feel like he's making a lot of progress, and we wouldn't hesitate to put them in and you know important spots in the game. He's going to get in an opportunity while he's here. Vladimir Gutierrez gets the ball today and I have to imagine you've been really impressed with what you've seen from him, even his last time out Labor a little bit in the first inning, but really seem to turn things around. Do you anticipate any nerves, making his first start here at home? I don't think so, You know, I mean, I think you know, Obviously, the butterflies are a good thing, but he seems to have that under control. He has a good perspective on it. Really? Uh, calm, you know, smiles a lot. You know he's excited to be here, but at the same time he's out there to compete, and I think that's what really stood out. It's just, uh, you know his competitive nature and and he loves to page that's Reds manager David Bell. The Reds and the Brewers play the middle game of this three game series coming up shortly. "R and L carriers on $700. Well, John, you thought home, but the Cincinnati Reds racer red wind things up on this part of the road trip. They wanted their series up in Pittsburgh toe today and then move on to Denver. Colorado. Strange Road trip way. This thing is played out. Uh, but this is a ball club. The right now I think for one of a better term is really trying to find itself now naturally in injury's impact team's planning, but at the same time Everybody has to deal with that. You know, this club gets a big win like it had the opening game of the Pirates Erie's, but then they stumble. They're still trying to find themselves and figure out the best approach. Talent wise to really get off on a long winning streak. Marty, I enjoy watching this team very entertaining. This team rakes. This team MASH is that this is Baseball lingo for they can really use them because of why. Well, because I played the game. Yeah, I just want to make sure we're on the same. I mean, they are the best hitting team in the National lake. Here's the catch. And I'm gonna sound like that dork. Lance McAllister yes. You know what they're hitting? You have no idea. You want yourself what? Having no Here it is. Don't want people to think about this for a minute. There the best hitting team in the National League. They're average. 2 47 and that some. You know what That's not a good so they gotta figure out a way. But that's a topic for another day, right? But what kind of sad you know baseball. There has to be more hitting because you look at the Reds they really hit but yet their averages 2 47 kind of strange. Talking about the Reds. They are wrapping up things in Pittsburgh, and we'll be back with more in just a moment..

"We close in on Xavier's basketball talk with atom bomb from the Enquirer, and you'll hear from Barry Larkin coming up in about 25 minutes or so. Just after the seven o'clock news I am I'm looking on Twitter at Lance McAllister, Twitter feed presented by Bar records three locations during the Kentucky We love barley corns. And I see the following in my question about Panay Sul, but a soul fill in the blank after that, Eric 10, plus year book End for Borough Andrew, Run to the podium. Tyler Jamaar Chase. Ah, Tyler pray he's available. Today. School, Uh, Rick on Twitter. Refers to put a stool as the Samoan Moon Joo's John on Twitter, Future Hall of Famer. And I see Joe Danamon Fox 19. He has written on a post it note and taking a picture and send it to me. And it says, Skill position, no matter what. And that is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. There seems to be no. There's no sitting on the fence. Now I'm not when it comes to open a school. I'm not sitting on the fence. But my problem to this point has been. I found myself jumping back and forth because I have found myself making the case in my head for open a school. I will admit that more often than not, I found myself talking myself out of police school for a variety of reasons. Um, he's on one hand. He's he's 20. He didn't play football this year. He missed about half his freshman year because of an ankle injury. I think today school has played 21 games in his entire college career. And yet Pardon me. Believes That at 20. And with Frank Polich here, there is a case to be made for the the analogy to be made of a a block of clay and give this block of clay Still 20 years old. An unproven block of clay. Give that to Frank Polich and let him mold and shape him without a whole lot of time to have developed bad habits already let him be shaped and molded into the offensive lineman in the vision of Frank Polich. And then say, son, you're over on this side. Um, do this for the next decade, and he looks down the line at the other entity. It kind of leans his head back, and he sees Jonah Williams and they say, all right, let's do this. And that's kind of exciting, but at the same time I have flashes of Cedric. Oh, boy, he I have flashes of Jake Fisher. I have flashes of Jonah Williams and I refer back to what Skinny road and it's one of the reasons I brought him on. And he wrote a couple of weeks ago for local 12 dot com. Again. He looked at how the playoff teams had constructed their offensive lines. Of the 40 offensive lineman starting in the playoffs this year. Six. Six were first round picks by their current team. Let me give you the rundown and some other teams Buffaloes offensive line. Here's where the players were selected. Round 2424 undrafted free agent. Baltimore Ravens this year, their offensive line their starters drafted in round three. 346 Undrafted free agent. Green Bay Packers third round, fifth round, second round fifth round. And an undrafted free agent. I'll give you one more of the Rams 2nd 2nd 5th 2nd 7th. No first rounders there. Tampa Bay Buccaneers his skinny referenced that they're Super Bowl starting lineup. Offensive line. It was 2nd 2nd 1st 6th undrafted. In fact, we we talked about this. I think it was like we could go tonight. While we discuss this because the tape of Bay Buccaneers, another starting offensive line have to division two players in a division three player. So I'll ask this again and I've got the lines open at 5137491 7800 the big £1.700 on a TNT pin a sul What is somebody they can't possibly afford to pass on today. Soul is somebody who Scares you at this point based on this organization's inability to identify stout draft and develop offensive lineman or I mean, it is awfully difficult to pass up. Somebody like Jamaar Chase. Had wide receiver and pairing with Joe Burrow in this offense, is it not? But again, it's that the first round's gonna come and go. And if they don't draft an offensive lineman, you know what's gonna happen. Then the second round's gonna come and then the third round is going to come. And then there's rounds that following around 45 and six and Oh, by the way, starting one month from tomorrow. His free agency. Just I find myself more firmly on the other side of the Panay Sewell fence, and I say if you've got the money Go get me something that is proven. That's been there done that. Especially in a season. Where Joe Burrow, We're gonna need it. The most difficult thing in this coming season is gonna be watching Joe Burro drop back to pass because let's admit it right now, Every time he drops back to pass, we're gonna hold her breath. And do you really want You really wanna run the scenario through your head? Do it right now. Off police school. Who hasn't played since January of 2019 the bowl game. The learning curve that comes with that. And today Sul on this offensive line with Joe Burrow. Verses, a known proven commodity that you've bought in free agency. On that offensive line. Paired with Jonah Williams and maybe a B level free agent. Let's assume they go a level free agent and get either a guard or a tackle and then B level to get the other. I just I can't convince myself that today soul is is all that and all due respect. Everybody comparing him to Anthony Moody was my goodness. He didn't play last year. How the heck would you know if he's history? Buzios or not, But I guarantee you this Most everybody other than Mel Kiper, who's chosen to compare a mint Anthony mood. EOS and ideas say the same thing to bill he didn't play last year. So his body of work is what And that doesn't mean his body of work ultimately won't be Anthony MOOD. EOS But I'm I'm already holding my breath on Joe Burrow. I'd like something. I don't need to hold my breath on in terms of who I add to the offensive line, and that would be through free agency and ultimately, we're going to know because free agency is going to come before the draft. So we're going to know what their efforts were like to add often an offensive lineman or offensive linemen in free agency, and that will dictate a large part what you're gonna do it number five. I just I can't. I can't stay in one spot here and I'm more inclined to be on the side of the fence and looks over and says you guys sure you want in a school? Go to the folks. 5137491 7800 the big one in pounds 700 on a TNT have got to stop the sale. Chad. Welcome to sports talk. What do you make of all this? You 100% have to get a skill player in the draft. Spend the money on the proven free agents. And then later rounds. You get the free you get the draft all linemen to replace two guys. You stand the free to see the two or three year deals. You have Frank Polich Groom them guys up. You cannot take again. We've been through this road before. Every, you know. I mean, you get the proven guys. Did you know where they're successful in the NFL draft the guys for their replacements. Let them coach him up. I just don't see how you can pass up something. You need a proven you just can't gamble with jumper anymore. They've done that. You cannot do that. In my opinion. You have to get guys Proven in the NFL and spend the money and get him another weapon. That's what you have to do in my opinion. Yeah, I think it makes a lot of sense. I mean, the last night chair I think was Dane Brugler is top 100. He had 10 offensive tackles and his top 100 players. There are going to be other offensive lineman who don't go in the first round. Who will be available to hand, too? If we're if we're calling Frank Polich, the guru and the Bengals answer to Derrick Johnson is a Reds pitching coach who could take things and build him up and get the best out of them. That I'm willing to trust Frank Polich identifying somebody beyond a first round offensive lineman. And I will, I would run to the podium to get Jamaar Chase right now to stick him. Can you imagine Jamaar Chase and Tyler Boyd and T. Hagen's with a competent offensive line behind in front of Joe Burrow? Holy town and keep in mind last time? You know, the whole thing would burrow Admission is the last time he laid. Yes,.

Frank Polich Barry Larkin Joe Burrow Lance McAllister Tyler Boyd Joe Burro Derrick Johnson Mel Kiper T. Hagen Anthony Moody Dane Brugler Baltimore Ravens Green Bay Packers Jake Fisher 20 Tyler Jamaar Chase Jamaar Chase 21 games two January of 2019

Last week. To administer 30,000 vaccines here in Cincinnati, just this one health group ready to go. They had the personnel they had the facility. They only got 800 doses. This health group only got 800 doses. Well, if that's one health group Look at the others. Look at look at places like Kroger. Look at places like your particular doctors. It's Zsa ply, and the demand is high for right now, but that doesn't discounted all the science that went into this thing. It's It's absolutely when you step back and you look at it. It's staggering. People were coming into this country and whether or not they have cove, it We gonna talk about that it to think to 35 also on the show today. The Reds and the Reds Community Fund are gonna work to connect parents to local teams in time for the spring and summer for the baseball and softball legs. If you want more information. You got a Redd's dot com slash sign up to register for more on that and talk a little baseball. We welcome in Eric Davis, Eric Lance McAllister. How are you? I'm doing great last are you doing? I'm well, It is great to hear your voice. Take me back in time to the days of a little Eric Davis running around, Maybe on the playground Who was playing baseball? What? What Got you interested in baseball? What did you love about the game as a kid? Well, uh, actually, number one. Uh, it was It was a gang that my grandfather paid. It was dream and my dad created came that my uncle's played all of the black men in my life. Um Play baseball, and that was the thing to do. That was our favorite past time going all the way back to celebrate. That's what stickball came to. So having said that Uh, it was always a part of me. And regardless of whether you had nine guys or or three guys two guys, uh, you just wanted to swing the bat. That was the ultimate, uh, competitive game was Can I hit this round ball with this round back, and I've just gravitated to it. And the more credit tomorrow Love We all grew up with favorite players. We mimic their batting stances. Did you have AH, Favorite player Growing up my favorite family? Well. Fraser of the New York Knicks was a big basketball fan and It was great for me because in 87, I had a chance to go on. Good morning America with Bryant Gumbel and Walt Frazier was there because I I Ward number 10 as a child on the way up through high school. I had my Afro, my kid. My sideburns couldn't get the way he is. But I tried like hell to get my Firebird, but he was that he was the first player That it was black or white, but he was the first player that I saw. That war, his athleticism on his flea. I mean, because you know he worked the he had to have to coach. He had the Rose voices He had all of and that was his swag. And that's why they called him, Clyde. So that's what I gravitated to, But from a baseball standpoint, I could do anybody I was Pete Rose. I was wondering where I was really amazed. I get all of that. And a zoo kid. We didn't have the instruments that we have today. I couldn't see Willie play or or go to Google it and find his his highlights and things of that nature. That's when Tony Kyu BEC and Joe Guys, we all know what the game The week was so inspirational because you've got a chance to see the highlights. And here the, uh, the legs and kind of put a face to that. So once I started to be a part of that Then I started to flap my wings like Joe and I did a lot of the thing that most kids wanted to do in the sixties and seventies. Eric what's what's changed over the years? How was how were other sports being basketball or football or soccer? Able to chip away at the game of baseball in and grab kids to their sports, and and what? What should be drawing? Kids to baseball these days? Well, the excitement of How the fans view the sport. If you talk about basketball, and you talk about baseball, uh, it's a difference in the dynamic of the fans who would turn basketball games. The black fans that train baseball games, even at my high school, even in high school, we would sell out the gym for that. The barbell. We get eight people for baseball, so historically, it was never something that was attractive. You didn't walk around in your baseball pants. And in spite that the mall's hard to be cool off the diamond with baseball here on and then when, once you started to have a few tournaments and the way the MBA and the NFL marketed the game It became a fashionable stat for the black Youth of America and then hip hop transcended into when the jerseys and doing different things and so the kids could resonate with that. It was cool and then for you to play basketball, and then you get a Free pair deters horse, Nike the sudden he wanted to be a part of that. So the cultural organization behind The youth was not marketed with baseball. It was marketed with basketball and football. So the athlete He's still there. He's still being gold. He's being grown to a certain level in baseball. And then once you get a certain age, basketball or football takes over and when you don't have that male figure in your life It is hard for that mother to to raise three boys, and I'm just using that everything and to work two jobs to put food on the table and then try to figure out which one to get my kids in school baseball historic. It was not a D one sport where they was. Bringing black kids to college to plays a most like it when the college either they walked on their parents paid for something. So it was easier for them to say you got a favorite sport in order to get an education or to further your education, basketball or football added that baseball didn Even today. If you look at college basketball in college baseball is predominantly back. If you look at college baseball outside of the swagger, HDC used predominantly white I think there's clearly some young guys today in the game who can carry the torch of the game that Fernando to teach juniors and and you've been around one who's on the minor league level with the Reds? Hunter Green, who seems to really get it and have a passion for giving back to his community, and then the baseball community. Give me your impressions of your time around Hunter Green. Oh, honey phenomenon. 100 is one of those red kids that you see that ahead of their time and just not citizen toe. But Miss Lee, how he views the world. His parents did a phenomenal job of him. Even as a high school stud. He wasn't a third and stuff. When he could have easily been that, But he wasn't brought up with those type of mannerisms. And he cares about people, not the state of other kids, Don't but he goes out of his way. To make sure that he's a role model for kids, even though he's still a baby yourself and for him to have that intuition about how he wants to be remembered now. That after he made a whole lot of money and want to Cy Young and won a World Series and all that kind of stuff, how he wants to remember He's taking that bull by the horn at the young age, and he's building his resume, as well as building other kids up to either follow him or even even go side by side with him. Absolution questions about hunting. Talking with the Reds Great Eric Davis. He's teaming up with the Reds to launch a campaign to encourage youth baseball and softball participation around the area. Parents of your interest to go to.

"My name's Milagro. That's a sports talk on 700 wlw filling in for Lance McAllister. Lance will be back on Thursday night. We are excited to have him make his return before you see basketball on Thursday evening, Jerry Jeff Walker coming up at 905, you and I Between now and then, on a slew of different things. We've done a lot of Bangles and some you see stuff and a touch of reds, which I'm gonna get back to coming up at 8 35, but I thought Sunday night in the NFL. Was interesting. The last game of the regular season. Feature the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Washington football team. If the Washington football team wins the game on Sunday, they win the NFC East with a seven and nine record. Philly wins the game. The NFC East goes to the New York Giants, who finished with a six and 10 record. They beat Dallas earlier in the day, so they put themselves in a position where if Washington lost the Giants win the NFC East go to the playoffs. Pretty competitive game between Washington and Philadelphia who's starting Jalen hurts a quarterback. Late in the game for what ended up being Phillies final four possessions in a three point game 17 to 14. Doug Peterson, the head coach. There. Who had been playing Jalen Hurts, who said during the week we're probably going to give this other dude in eight sub felt a chance abruptly. Changed quarterbacks now with a lot of people who took Doug Peterson saying that he was going to play his backup. A swell He's going to get him. Some ribs of the game gets out of hand or he's gonna play him early, but Jalen hurts, had played the entire way We get late in the game. It's a three point game. There's there's a playoff berth riding on this game, not from Philadelphia, but for either Washington or the Giants. And he makes the change. If you watch the game you saw Nate son felt come in, and he was comically bad, comically bad. Also earlier in the game, he elects to kick a field goal down by three points again. His team has won four games instead of going for it. The offensive play calling certainly lacked imagination. They didn't exactly show a lot of urgency as they were trying to. Ah score on their last two possessions. It was visibly a tank job. They went from being slotted ninth in the draft to six in the draft. By virtue of losing the game, it was a tank job. On full display on national television. The game of the week effectively Sunday night Football. The Philadelphia Eagles tent. New York Giants players are upset about that. My response to them would be Don't go six and 10. Like in life. Never put your faith in someone else's hands, right? Control your own destiny. All that deep stuff, right? Don't put yourself at the mercy of a bad Philadelphia team playing out the string. I feel bad for Giants players felt bad for Eagles players who in a game that meant nothing. We're still going hard. Who have pride who are competitive who want to win, But that's Doug Peterson's problem. Aside from Giants players in Philadelphia players, though, boy lot of people upset that they saw a team tank on national television. Hear my questions, number one. I spent the last. I don't know, 456 years watching and listening to a lot of sports fans and media members. Celebrate tanking. Times, even promoted or advocated. I'm a big MBA fan. We're tanking happens all the time. There's typically not You know what playoff berth attached to it? But I mean, it happens all the time in that league. It's not pleasant to watch and there are front offices that effectively tank right. Be tanks Saturday through or Monday through Saturday, and then the players going play on Sunday. They trade away guys in their prime for draft assets. They released players who are not as good as the guys who are going to replace him because they cost a lot of money. I mean, to a degree. I don't like how this was framed, but you could say the Reds in the middle of the decade tanked. I think the word tanking implies that you're intentionally trying to lose. I don't think the Reds ever did that. But let's face it. They traded away all the good players. And they stunk for five years because of it. Even in 2019. The Bangles played the Miami Dolphins Week 16. They lost the game. Despite the players trying really hard. We celebrated that man. Might be the best Bangles development over the last five seasons that lost to the Dolphins. A couple of weeks ago, the New York Jets are playing a game against the Las Vegas Raiders. They hadn't won a game. Their defensive coordinator with the Jets, needing just a stop, decided to call it zero blitz. The the Las Vegas Raiders complete a pass downfield. There's nobody back deep. It's the easiest touchdown you've ever seen. And the defensive coordinator was celebrated by fans and media for doing the right thing and effectively calling a defense that was destined to fail now. The defensive coordinator, was fired by the New York Jets a day later. But still everybody, everybody that I read, follow, Listen to was saying Boy That's the only guy in the Jets coaching staff who knew what they were doing. He was tanking. That's how you tank, you got a tank. So here's my question. Wasn't what we saw on Sunday night, just kind of the next step. The purest of me doesn't like it. The idea behind sports is everybody's trying their hardest right. But When tanking is something that is celebrated, advocated suggested promoted. Isn't the next step that a coach or somebody who could actually effect the result. The next step is them. Engaging in tanking. In the fall out that he's gonna have to deal with with his own players. That's his problem. I don't think he owes the New York Giants anything. I don't think he knows the Washington football team. Anything I think coaches priority. A coach's obligation is to His team, his organization, and maybe there were people above Doug Peterson, who were either in on tanking or told him the tank. But it's interesting to me, everybody that I always see all you gotta tank. You gotta try not to win. If you're a team that stings get the draft choice, but it's interesting when you actually see it unfold in front of you, isn't it? So there's my first question. Wasn't this kind of the next step in the evolution of tanking? At some point when front offices do it when owners do it when media members talk about how it should be done when fans celebrated, somebody's going to do it in the game, right? Here's my next question. It, Zain, Not the first person asked this, and I'm certainly not going to be the first person to answer it..

"Sounds good 23 minutes away from eight o'clock. We're going back to the cold play Well, twice in the same show, huh? All right. My name is my leg her in for Lance McAllister. This is sports, talking to Tuesday evening land to be back on Thursday. Justin Williams covers you see football and basketball for the athletic and there's there's a lot to get to The aftermath of the Peach Bowl. You got schools coming after Marcus Freeman. You have players making decisions about whether they're going to stay at school or jump to the NFL and the basketball team that use he's lost five straight games. And that's not supposed to happen. So there's a lot to discuss. Justin is here. You could subscribe to the athletic and you could read his work. He doesn't awesome job and you can also follow him on Twitter and Williams underscore Justin. How you doing? I'm doing great. How are you? I'm good. I'm better now that you're here. Let me uh, let me start with the Peach Bowl. Third until you got to run the ball, right? Yeah, but it's bigger than that. Reno right? Cause it Z to place where they didn't let the play clock right down. And, you know, Yeah. You can't really go back and do revisionist sister. I get that. But if you just let those Play class run down. Everything else remains the same. You're looking at. What a minute 20. I think for that third down, basically, If they would have done it right. They could have cut a minute off of what George got when they got the ball back. So instead of getting with a minute, 30 they get it with about 30 seconds left on the 20, and they have to go down and score field goal. Now, you know who knows what happened, But it certainly would have been a lot tougher and Then you know, on the other side of it, if if they make a complete that 32 or there, Michael younger help Pierce. They're just they somehow you know, through that pass, you get a get a completion. I mean, maybe behind Pike defends, but there's probably not aboard. Finding play in the history of the program. So you know it was a zero to hero call, and obviously to him not being a zero and then that's what people are gonna remember. So but but I think it's bigger than just that 13 to call. It was really just kind of the way that whole driveway. You're right about that. Here's here's what kind of sticks in my craw. It's It's not the mechanics of what they could have couldn't have done. Second guessing is easy. Second guessing is a part of the gig. It's what makes sports fund Luke Fickell. I think behind closed doors would be willing to admit that certainly not right after the game, but fine. The thing for me, though, is and I wrote about this for the athlete for the athletic that the publication that you work for it, and I think there's some people who took this as me being cynical or negative, and it's not that It's an appreciation. For what that moment Woz you are. You are two yards away. You're a minute and a half away from achieving the greatest victory in your program's history and to do that. You've got to finish your season undefeated. You've gotta win your league. You've got to be the highest rank of all the group of five schools and you've got to go toe to toe with a powerhouse for 58 minutes. All of those things are hard to do it the same time. That's not to say that you see football is gonna be bad or not being a big bowl game or not being the top. Those things very well could happen. They're gonna have a good team coming back next year. But it felt to me like the planets were lining and the planets don't align all that often. You only get some of the opportunities like that. You're right, especially with the situation there. And I mean, look, you see, a football has been really good for the past two years, but What it's been at least three years now, since I've been to a New York six bowl and they've been good. They've had good recruitment had successful seasons. You know, Memphis wins the Commerce title s last year and then, obviously like this year, they're not even playing for a championship. So as much as I think the bear cats, they're set up for success moving forward, and I really do you know, I think there's a good chance that the last thing Kind of memory of this game is just the fact that Cincinnati belonged on that stage. They didn't go into that game and get blown out. They went into that game, and they should have won. But you were right that if we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that just getting to that point, you know. Yeah. Everything's set up really Well, you have Luke Fickell. All that stuff is great. But even with all those things getting there is hard and they were there and they had a chance to win. And they didn't so e think you're totally right that even if they do get back there next year more the back there in a couple of years. Let's not lose sight of the fact that how difficult that was and how great it would have been for the program to get that win. We have spent the aftermath of that watching players decide whether or not they're going to jump to the NFL or State University of Cincinnati. And I think the big one that that everybody is paying attention to his Desmond Ritter. I would expect an announcement here within the next day or two is does your gut tell you either way, whether or not does is going to stay or go Yeah, I've always been lean, and then he comes back, and I'm stunned. Still definitely leaning that way. Um, you know, he's gotten some attention. Certainly, you know, kind of an NFL draft circles, and I think it became definitely from the start of the season. But even just over the course of the season, you know became something he really had to think about. I mean, you wrote about this think back like If you'd have told people in the second week of the season third week of the season, the decision he's gonna have to make everyone had been like, please, you know, go into the draft, and so you know his credit. He's made that a viable option on he's done that by playing really well, so I think he realizes that there's still some things he work on them to be an NFL quarterback, and so because I think he comes back, But you know, all christened him. The fact that he made this I think probably a tougher decision than even he expected entering the season. If you would have said to me that in September we're gonna be talking about Desmond Ritter being the offensive player of the year in the league, and we're you know, he's gonna maybe leave early to go get it. Go, You know, end of the draft and maybe get drafted. I would have laughed at you. I mean, I would have taken that bet right now. I guess the way I look at it is a It's a great success story because he advanced so much you wrote about this during the season, not just as a thrower, but the mental aspect of pre snap aspect of it. The timing the runs better all that stuff. He really evolved into a complete, well rounded college quarterback, But he's not a finished product. He still has a ways to go. He should be the quarterback of a really good team next year. It's also a loaded draft class. So I mean to me, there's I certainly would never begrudge anybody a chance. Toe go and lead to an opportunity that awaits And who knows what's gonna happen. You could get hurt all that stuff at the same time. I think there's more upside T staying in school than there is to testing the waters in the NFL draft. Where, as as great as it is that people are writing about him is as an NFL draft choice. It doesn't strike me as somebody who is going to be taken on Thursday or Friday, so why not come back to school? Yeah, And, you know, let's not discount the fact that like he can, you know if he comes back and have a good season next year, he's up there with, you know the Dooley. He's an all time great. You know that quarterback and football player and he's from right down the road in Louisville, his family could come up and see him play. Obviously, this was not kind of the normal college experience this year that The starting quarterback player of the year would would want to have, so, you know? Yeah, get the NFL stuff. But I.

Bengals rookie, Tee Higgins, getting more comfortable in offense

"Lance McAllister. He is Dave Lapham. It's welcome in a special guest. He's the Bengals rookie wide receiver for catches on Sunday. 16 catches on the season. We welcome in tea, Higgins t. How are you? I'm good. You're doing good. He had a 26 yard or yesterday. That was the longest play from scrimmage for the Bengals against that Baltimore Ravens defense If you played against a defense on any level that was more aggressive than what the Ravens took us a posturing yesterday in that football game. Um, I mean, I've been in the league knows. You know me plan against other sue in the national championship there, David, Mrs. Really aggressive. So that's the first time I've seen that since that game. See, I mentioned 16 catches. Now It's 16 times you've hooked up with Joe talk to us about the the comfort level in the chemistry you feel it's developing between you and Joe, Ah, utility and better and better each week. No, you listen to me more and more now, so just go out there and practice catching those, You know balls that he's given me, you know. With this behind me, or in front of me. He knows over the shoulder, so they're out there making those plays. Giving him confidence in me is, you know good so It seems like on a week by week basis you're learning and the one thing you talked about early, and teammates had mentioned it to you don't flash. Don't show your hands earlier. These defensive backs the guys at this level, You know, just kind of feed off of that. That type of thing. What other things have you learned little nuances that you've already applied in the early stages of your NFL career? Yeah. I can't do too much dancing at the London coach when you were going to get Stevie, you know, you gotta get point from point A to point B. And you know a lot of guys. Honestly, they're they're really good for defeat, and they're going to read you. So you just You can't can't do too much Daphne Blonde scrimmage. 85 games into your NFL career, Is it what? You thought it was the game? What you thought it be from a speed and everything you have heard? How was it played out for you? Yeah, that will be a new is gonna be a lot faster, if not more physical, You know that. It has been exactly that. Nah, just really well, and you know, really Now so plated Ellis you like you said, Death Valley. I've been to Death Valley Broadcasting games for that environment. There's nothing like in a night game of Death Valley. You haven't lived until you've experienced something like that. And then in the SEC, all the visiting stadiums that you go to, of all the crowd noise mirroring what's it been like? Plant in the National Football League with covert, You know 19 in the year 2020. That's been so different for everybody. What's that been like a Zen experience. Yeah. You know, having a no fan and stuff like that been really, You know really strange And we're you know, you know, I've been playing football on my whole life. Always have fans, and so is it really just feels like a scream? It's you got. Ah, Brain Accutane. Gotta bring no energy, So I mean, that's what we try to do. You make a play to bring all energy I'm getting so tight, you know, came allowing the crowd when there's no fans in the stadium, so That's really how we go about it. T fans get to see you play on the field, but I don't think they have an appreciation for everything that goes with it in terms of following the protocols in the testing, and that's got away. I would think that's gonna be on your mind. And yet you have toe push it aside to play football. What's it like dealing with everything else beyond just playing the game right now? Yeah. You know, you got to get tested everything the day at a certain time. And, you know, get our math everywhere. So I mean, It's been really, you know, really weird, But everyone's going to just too and you know, just following protocol just so we could go out there and play the game that we both. Yeah, it's an interesting year instead of going on the road and facing these hostile crowds. Your face in a hostile enemy and covert 19, you know, and it's like you never know when it's going to crop up like it did in Tennessee, in Miami and other places, And I guess this This is the year where you have to go from a mental standpoint, be mentally strong and be ready to pivot on a just, I mean the team that pivots and adjust the best, you know, be at the Patriots with what they're going through the Titans and other teams. And teams that really don't get affected by covert. But after almost, you know, work to make sure you don't every single day of the season, the team that handles that type of business best this year. The teams are going to be okay. Right. Just like you know, you just gotta be careful with the alpha people, not people, not always. In the building every single day, you know, just really quarantine yourself for what? You know a few more weeks. The season go through and you know everybody be alright, so To your body's taken hits now for five weeks. How Just how In general, do you feel physically at this stage of the season? I feel really good, You know, just getting treatment. And, you know, getting massages every week, you know, just got to take care of your body. You know, you don't take care of your body. You won't be able to play under sentence on Sunday. So You were exposed to. Ah, tremendous leaders, coaches players at Clemson. I think you thought that Joe borrow fit that category. A za an outstanding leader as he lived up to everything that you thought. My understanding is after the game, he instead to the to the defense. You continue to play like that. We won't lose another game this year. I mean, that's that's what you're looking for. From your guy at quarterback in it. Oh, yeah. 100% You know you want to go out like that is going to take Take ownership of you know how we play it off. As you know, we gotta compliment our defense when they go out there and get stuff. You know, we gotta go out There is four points where they'd be a field, road or touch now. And him. Coming up in, you know, speaking on it in a zoo, the game is really big, and that's what you're going to. God has run the offense see one. Ah, when all hick has been breaking, lose either good or bad. What has he been? What's job in like in the huddle? What kind of influence in leader has he been? From that standpoint? Got encouraging. You know he's gonna pick it up for my job. Go get a false start. You know he's going to talk to you encouraging you have that play behind, you know, And you know, we have a good place He's gonna you know. Giggle and laugh about it. Sometimes in the dependable know what the situation is. You know the guy that is the guy that you really want, you know, in the huddle. See how much carry over from Clemson in in your routes. The actual routes themselves are there to the to this offense here with the Bangles and National Football League? I know them different terminology, all those kind of things, but there are only certain number routes in a row tree, right? I mean, is it just me or is it just applying? You know things that you already know that you've done a million times? Make sure mentally you know, with the with the language and everything involved. You're on the same page as the quarterback. Yeah. Yeah, it comes and he basically ran everything. So I mean, you know you just from Beit was just you know, the different, you know, Route names and what? What The plate concept is So that was the biggest thing for me. But other than that, you know all the routes of the same You have two NFL touchdown catches. Do you have either football? Go out first. I have to keep down.
