When Egregious Injustice Occurs, You Can't Just 'Move On'
"In the last segment, I talked about how the Supreme Court might be taking the view that one can't do very much about the past election, but the court might take steps to tighten up the process, bring it more in line with the constitution for the 2024 election. But I think that we shouldn't take the view that 2020 is in the rearview mirror and that somehow this is something that we need to quote move on from. Yes, in the end, we do have to move on, but I think we don't want to move on without some reckoning of what happened in 2020. And I came to this view really not initially, but after I did all the work I did both to do the movie 2000 meals and the accompanying book, which by the way comes out at the end of August, you can pre order it now on Amazon, it's called well. You guessed it. 2000 meals, but there's a little tag that says the full story why because there's going to be more in the book than there was in the movie. Now, initially when I began work, went through the vote, Debbie and I did. I took the view that look, we want to make a movie that's going to tell the truth, about 2020, and we want to try to fix things in the future, but it never crossed my mind that we want to do anything about 2020 itself. And yet, the more I dug into it, the more I realized, well, if a grievous injustice has been done, then you can't simply quote move on. Think about I mentioned this example other times the Tour de France. If Lance Armstrong cheated 7 or 8 times to win, she did during the Olympics. Well, I mean, don't you take away the guy's medals? You just say, let's fix the Tour de France for the next round, so it doesn't happen again, let line scores have his glory. No, we want to deprive him of the fruit of the cheating.
Fresh update on "lance" discussed on The Rich Eisen Show
"For everybody else, somebody out there if he can stay healthy and doesn't throw 28 interceptions is going to pay Baker Mayfield because look around the NFL. That's why I was surprised, say the Texans weren't that interested. And we know that Davis mills was the number one high school quarterback in the country, had a cameo at Stanford, but looked okay last year. But are you telling me the Baker Mayfield's not in the top 15? Starters in the league, he was certainly always in my mind going to be a starter at Carolina could say whatever they want about a competition between baker and Sam darnold. I've not seen any official reaction from the Panthers. That'll come out later. Baker's going to start, and now it's up to him. And if you view him to be prickly, I keep using that term with intent. And I have a little bit of that in my personality. I know shocking. No, that comes through the show. Prickly people can be motivated. Tell them they can't do something. They're going to try to prove you wrong. So baker has all the motivation he needs and all the financial incentive, especially because and no need for a bake sale with all the commercials that he's on. He's leaving three and a half million bucks on realized waving that to get out of Cleveland. I think of all the potential outcomes, this is the best for baker, Seattle could have been even more challenging because I have no earthly idea what the Seahawks are doing. And then lastly, what do we do with Jimmy Garoppolo? So cross if you have your list of landing spots for Garoppolo, cross Carolina off the list, there is a school of thought, that the niners don't think Garoppolo is worthy of worrying about trading him in the division. That they might be open to sending him to Seattle because they know him better than anybody and they think they can beat him twice within the division. Because we know it is Trey Lance's team. And it's Trey Lance's team, all the more, obviously, because Garoppolo is still banged up, coming back from the shoulder procedure. So the questions questions to be answered. Moving forward, and I think it goes in this order. What is the league discipline for deshaun Watson? If it's less than ten games, I think the browns ride with Jacoby Brissette. If it is a season long suspension or indefinite, I think Cleveland's then open to finding somebody else. And that somebody else could be Jimmy Garoppolo. Once we know, he's medically cleared and he shows he still has a functioning arm. So, much like the Kevin Durant conversation the Kyrie Irving conversation that we went through all of the machinations and possibilities early in the program, I don't think we're going to have any clarity on the other things, namely Garoppolo and what Cleveland is going to do to fill in the blank for deshaun Watson for quite some time, step one, getting the ruling from the federal judge, what she decides is appropriate discipline for deshaun Watson and remember if the league's not happy, they have the right to appeal either to someone designated by Roger Goodell or Roger Goodell himself. I don't think they want to overrule this judge. I think they want to prove their system has been refined. It's more fair to the players. I don't think Roger Goodell wants the optics of overruling a female judge, just to be completely transparent with you. Still, I'm the guy who told you an hour ago the baker may be able to stay in Cleveland because it made the most sense. So in the words of the phenomenal screenwriter, William Goldman, summing up Hollywood. Nobody knows anything. And the longer I do this, the more applicable it seems to the world of sports as well. Had a great time with you. Thanks for hanging with me. I know I was spending a lot of plates. That was a poor man's impersonation of Brian wintour. On the other B dub. Sean 'Diddy' Combs receives lifetime honor at BET Awards
"The BET awards were held last night in Los Angeles and a lot of attention was given to last week's Supreme Court ruling on abortion I'm about to get into my feelings How you feeling At times the BET awards ceremony seemed more like a protest rally against the high court's ruling Lance week to take away most abortion rights opening the show Taraji P. Henson denounced the ruling saying it was sad that guns have more rights than a woman these days before the show she described the ruling as Disgusting How dare you tell us what to do with our bodies And as any mane And it's a dark day in America And she wasn't the only one Janelle monae used both the profane word and a profane gesture toward the court for its ruling after she presented the award for best female R&B pop singer The winner Jasmine Sullivan also criticized the decision she called on men to join women in the fight to restore abortion rights noting that men are often the ones who benefit from a woman's decision to end a pregnancy I'm Oscar wells
Human Relationships Still Matter!
"Human relations still matter. No matter how technologically it lanced our worlds could be coming no matter how technologically savvy we are becoming, you can't separate out the man from the machine. And that goes for programming, it goes from social media. You can't separate it out. This is also one of the concerns and I wanted to start with this one because I see this so often if the machine is being substituted for social interaction, we see this in social media, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, all of these YouTube platforms, Roman platforms, all of them. All are good things when used in proper perspective. But what we're seeing right now and probably wouldn't envision from this movie top that matter was that when you remove the man from the machine, when you remove the human element out of the social interactions, then people will begin to believe that they're their own best, they're their own best advisers, their own best interests, and that they know best because they're never challenged. Because if you can put something out there on the Internet and you can top a comment or a tweet and you can send it out an anonymous fashion, you're not able to receive the instant feedback like I grew up when I was growing up in high school. If you had a problem with somebody, you had to tell them you had a problem with them. Otherwise, nobody would ever know. You couldn't go to some anonymous electric site, electronic site in tweet, I hate or I'm mad at so and so. No, you had to actually get front and that's where human interaction skills were lacking in a leadership lesson. If you want to hear it today, the best leadership interaction I can give you is the demand. You can't separate the command of a machine and you can't separate the social interaction that we desperately need is humans. And when you do, you start isolating people. We start seeing the rise of the mental health issues that we see. And we start seeing more and more of a pervasiveness in our culture that is
Canadian Parliament Member Respontds to Trudeau Attack
"BEE dot com slash hi everybody. Dot com slash prager. I think while I had prime minister Steven Harper previous prime minister of Canada on the show and I did a PragerU interview with him at one of our gala events, but I've never had a member of the Canadian parliament on the show. So let me introduce Melissa alliance. She is a member of the parliament of parliament in Canada. And she is a woman of courage, let me give you an example. February 2022, I reported this, by the way, on the show. In response to a question raised by Melissa alliance regarding the usage of emergency act the emergency act, prime minister Justin Trudeau replied to her by stating quote. Conservative Party members can stand with people who wave swastikas. She's a member of the Conservative Party. In response, Melissa Lance been stated I am a strong Jewish woman. And a member of this house, and the descendant of Holocaust survivors. I have never been made to feel less except for today when the prime minister accused me of standing with swastikas. I think he owes me an apology, I'd like an apology. So folks, even if you're not into gambling, what would you bet? That Trudeau apologized or not. Also she has been fighting. The man I consider bringing Canada to be more like Cuba than any other North American example. I wrote about that few months ago. She's been fighting his COVID dictates. And supported the Canadian trucker protest, again a member of the parliament of Canada. So Melissa lancement, you're a woman of courage, so I have a question that is nothing to do with the philosophical question because it's one that I think about a lot. Why are you courageous? That's a really that's a really good question. I think there needs to be somebody that stands up in this parliament for common sense, you know, whether it be against deployment minister that is othered in entire part of the Canadian population and in one who shows his true colors on the floor of the House of Commons or whether it's the everyday things like the nonsensical restrictions and vaccine mandates that we are still clinging to in this country. I think somebody has to be courageous and I figure that I'm already here. So here's a theory and then I'll get to the specifics of Canada in just a moment. I think I've asked this to all courageous people. And I think that people like you almost have no choice, it's almost like saying to somebody, why are you a righty or a lefty? I just am. And of course there's an element of choice on whether to be courageous. So anyway, thank God you exist. That's my bottom line. So first of all, I'm
Lance Christensen: Parents Are Being Confused Into Waiving Consent to Kids' Vaccines
"Have you Have you seen these forms Lance at all I know your dad have you seen anything like this I have 5 kids and we seem to be signing all sorts of forms these days I don't know I've seen this specific one but I've definitely been hearing from a lot of parents that just feel frustrated that in order for them to do basic normal things that they are now being required to wave away all sorts of rights and in California legislation has even been passed to wave consent for providing not just the COVID vaccines but all sorts of other shots as well Parents are being left in the dark And when these kinds of forms come it doesn't do the public health any favors when nobody knows why this is happening or what it's all about
Lance Christensen: Politicians Forcing Vaccines Should Be Concerning
"The thing these forms have shown up in parents in parents folders or packets with no warning My kids played sports throughout their younger years I signed all kinds of waivers I never signed a waiver about their heart health And yet we have evidence that the vaccine could affect could affect your child's heart health So these things are obviously connected and yet Lance we have politicians not just here in California but across the country who are still insisting They're just waiting till after November elections to see how it all shakes out They are still insisting that they are going to force our babies to get vaccinated even as a pass out these forms that are basically telling us well you might have coincidentally an increased chance of heart disease in your healthy child by the way post vaccine It's frustrating especially when the duty of a doctor is to first cause no harm or do no harm So if we have the numbers and as we've spent the last year or so trying to figure out what the vaccine does and doesn't do I think that parents can make informed decisions about their own children but if they're being forced basically under penalty of the participating in any kind of sports or education activity unless they do a forced medical procedure it should be concerning And again I'm not opposed to vaccines by wife and I are all vaccinated Our kids are all vaccinated when it comes to all the regular stuff that's been around for decades and generations But to come out all of a sudden and require a shot for something that doesn't impact kids 0.0% of these kids have died Statistically 0.0% then we have to step back and say why are we administering some sort of medication that may or may not be helpful
Lance Christensen: Why Do Education Adminstrators Force Medical Decisions on Children
"But I don't mind if a parent wants to make that decision for their child But what we're talking about is parents being stripped of those decisions Here in California we're about to pass a law that it's passed out of committee now It's got one more step to go before it comes law that a child can consent to give the COVID vaccine at school without their parents knowledge or permission Lance your child do your children your children fully aware of your family's medical history or what's in their file No not their own I mean I have kids who do regular medical treatments for asthma and allergies Do we get regular injections for You've got to be very conscientious That's how he thinks mixed with other things And you can't just go out and blindly put things into that bodies Remember to these teachers and administrators at schools that are so in favor of this they're not the ones that will be with the children during the summer or at night when something goes wrong They're not the ones that are going to be rushing into the hospital or trying to schedule an appointment or try to figure out the billing and costs when all these things come full fruition So if a pair wants to make that cost benefit analysis and they decide that this is the direction we go well that's fine It's on them But the second that we start coercing and that's most of these parents are having to sign these forms under duress These their children want to just live a normal life They just want to play soccer and go on activities and field trips But they're being or even in California They just want to walk at graduation They participated fully in class but now they can't walk to graduation because we have people who are dictatorial in their approach And frankly I don't understand why especially a lot of the education administrators feel like they've got to force a medical decision over something that has no impact on these children
Lance Christensen's Theory Why Education Admin Want Power Over Children
"But if you step back and understand it used to be the education began and ended in the home That most activities begin in and ended with parents We over the last 120 130 years have created this warehouse effect where we've actually now sublet it or contracted out or co parented our rights away with the government And so in order to for them to be successful and to continue on they create massive bureaucracies and programs and requirements for our kids to get through this account call And what we do at young ages and it was different for you and I when we grow for roughly the same age we had roughly the same experience and probably public schools I grew up in suburban Denver Colorado I know what it's like to go through a regular public school with a normal experience that's far different now these days and I can say that was great effect My oldest is graduating today My youngest just finished kindergarten this year I've seen how things have changed in 13 years It's been very dramatic but when you put these kids on a basically conveyor belt kindergarten And then you just play You pray that it all work out the end in the meantime they're subjected to a whole bunch of garbage that has nothing to do with their minds being clear or education or enlightenment or creating good citizens or noble characters We just basically create a whole bunch of robots that once they ask the assembly line if they can't do the job we need them to do we toss them aside And I think a lot of these kinds of requirements are people that continue to want our children just to be servants of the state It was certainly all parental rights and I think parents are waking up And that's what I'm seeing in California and there's stepping back and saying no I'm not going to do this I know that we did this before I know that I did this as a child But it's not necessary Let's step back and let's not do this Let's take a pause and let's decide what's best for our kids and our

"I disagree. I think it's time to take the gloves off. Ever since Trump slept office, we've lost the power and it's just time to play their game. We can't probably nice anymore. Well, I don't want to play. I'm not planning on playing nice, and we better roll our sleeves up. I mean, don't worry, Lance. They're not giving us any shortage of stuff to go after them over. Believe me. I mean, we all see with the condition of the country under their leadership. I'm just saying we ought to be a little bit consistent. Do we want people to act normal and get rid of the masks and stop the social distancing or don't we? Oh, I think we did, but I don't think there's such thing as a normal Democrat. You got me there.
TSA Reveals Illegal Migrants Flying Without Proper ID Can Use an ARREST WARRANT as Identification
"The transportation security administration revealed that illegal immigrants who are unable to obtain proper identification proper identification are being allowed to pass through security using an arrest warrant to prove their identity. Congressman Lance gooden a Republican from Texas had sent a letter to TSA after a whistleblower claimed the agency was allowing unknown migrants to board commercial airlines in the U.S.. The TSA administrator responded. Saying that certain Department of Homeland Security documents may be considered acceptable alternate forms of identification, including a warrant for arrest and a warrant of removal and deportation. We're letting illegals board a Delta Air Lines flight using their arrest warrant as a form of ID. TSA is so bad is so awful is so screwed up. That illegals who don't have proper identification can use their arrest warrant as proper identification.

How Virginia Became Ground Zero in the American Culture War
"Virginia, which is now being called a blue state, how long is it going to be blue? Or is it going to stay that way? Again, the counties around Washington, D.C. are reliably blue for a variety of different reasons. The first reason of course is its proximity to the power center to the kingdom of Washington, D.C.. The second is the amount of universities that are in Northern Virginia, which is extraordinary. If you look at the amount of universities in D.C. and Virginia, the third of which is, of course, the fact that a lot of first generation low wage worker immigrants move to Northern Virginia to be able to make the life of luxury possible for so many people that live in Northern Virginia. And many, many of the refugee resettlement programs and the immigration, the mass immigration programs come to Northern Virginia, which has resulted in a totally different political type atmosphere to win an election in Virginia. And so Virginia Democrats have been able to win, reliably by running up the score Northern Virginia, being able to win in Richmond and win on the Virginia coast. The rest of Virginia is very conservative, by the way. Lynchburg is very conservative, Blacksburg isn't because of Virginia tech, but Virginia, Virginia used to be a very conservative state. Charlottesville is obviously not very conservative because the University of Virginia, Blacksburg is Virginia tech, Charlottesville is University of Virginia Lynchburg's Liberty University which is actually a pretty conservative area. Richmond is a very, very Democrat area, and so Virginia seemed dead on arrival for years. There have been great candidates before, running for governor as Republicans, and they always get disappointed. And right, of course, the current governor of Virginia's give and a Ralph northam of Virginia and he won against a pretty good candidate who was the Republican canon in 2017. I can't remember Virginia's goofy. Virginia has elections in off years for their statewide elected officials. So 2017, 2021, 2013, they do every four years and in coming up in a couple weeks, is the Virginia governor's race. And Democrat operatives all across the country, they are going a full court press they are trying to California recall the Virginia race. They're going all in. They're raising money they're bringing in surrogates, so Terry mcauliffe, who is the corrupt Clinton surrogate and wants to be governor of Virginia, I think, again, he was governor once, right? Years ago. He says, look, yesterday I had Jill Biden here. I've had Stacey Abrams. Now, let me just say this. What constituency gets excited about having Stacey Abrams I've got Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance bottoms. Oh, I see the type. He's building a constituency on how to fraudulently steal elections. That's who he's bringing in. President Obama and, of course, Joe

"As long as there's been bike racing, there's been. In bike racing. In the nineteen o four, Tour de France the second year, the race was held. Several riders were caught taking trains and sabotaging their competitors. The malfeasance was so pervasive. The race was almost cancelled, and yet it wasn't hers. The years passed the to grew in prestige and popularity, becoming one of the world's biggest sporting events, but the more is there were on the race, the harder it got to cheat instead of train, hopping and putting itching powder and their rival shorts, racers turned to more pharmaceutical. Pharmaceutical techniques by the nineteen nineties. The Tour de France was more of a medical operation than a sporting event. It wasn't about who trained the hardest or had the most guts it was about to take the most drugs. The world's greatest endurance race had become a farce that is until Lance Armstrong came along. He descended on the nineteen, ninety, nine tour, de France like an avenging angel, punishing those who wrong the sport he was fast, he was strong and best of all. He was clean. Over the next few years Lance earned the title of the most scrutinized man in sports. If anyone doubted him, all the to do was point out that he had never tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. However, that wasn't true. Lance is incredible. Rise wasn't fueled by sophisticated training methods, intense desire or good, old American pluck. It was powered by the most sophisticated doping ring of all time..

Let's go straight to the source. The reds first round pick twelfth overall. That would be Austin Hendrick Austin Lance. McAlister, how are you? Doing Sir I'm well congratulations after all the the work over the years after all the games over the years with mom and dad driver, you'd have practice. What was that moment like for you last night? moment that I'll never forget something like you said you worked so hard for all the hours you put in something you never forget and he really work hard for. What have the last three months been like no, no baseball season and everybody's world turned upside down. What's it been like for you during that period? Yes definitely definitely been different Xiaobin on been on the field playing some games, but it's been a lot of indoor work. Indoor facilities to begin my work in the weight room, hitting slowing and just keeping in the best shape, possible very happy with my body right now so. A lot of work that's been paying in putting. Did you have a sense going in of the reds interest for you? Did you think there was an opportunity at twelve of you're there? their my opinion. I didn't know exactly what was going to happen. I had an idea from some different places. But I'm going in and hearing that I'm hearing my name called and number twelve is unbelievable, experience and like something I will never forget any idea over the months any idea how many zoom meetings you did with teams or what? What was that process like? There is a lot. A number. A really cool experience, though this town with everybody has to say and seeing where I landed as well You know I'm very very happy very excited and you know There's no way to get out there. Get the red uniform on and Get out there and play. You know that's something that I'm very excited for win. Reds fans, watch you or even when they go to Youtube and watch some of your clips to this point, what do you? What do you hope they see in you as a player in the way you play the game? This together does outplays hard plays away. You know what I mean I like to go out there and you know I. Bring a sense of confidence, a little bit of swagger, but Um, not not not a person's financial at all. Go out there fighting in the right way and you know I love the hit so. Actually you know had a couple of home runs and pity game with a lot of passion. I laughed last night. You talked about going to youtube and watching King Griffey Junior. Tell us about your appreciation for for junior, not not just the player, but the person it seems Oh. Yeah, he's A. He's a role model for me. Most definitely something. I look up to and I'm Kinda resemble my game after just a swing and his carrots there on and off the field. You know, but a great husband. Right father. Someone that you know you Kinda WanNA strive to be speaking of your swing. You simplified it last summer. Did you find confidence after that change? Oh, absolutely I'm I've always had confidence. Chain, and I'm seeing some of the things I did. more consistency felt great. Um, you know not only still even now over the whole porn pain, continue to keep them better with that and very very happy with what I did and continue to keep growing into Austin here. Here's what jumped out to me. That impresses me about your decision to when you change your swing. You were I believe at the time line is right. This was this was during some high level competition showcase events. Some guys might be Leery of getting out of their comfort zone against top notch competition. You went right to it and did it right through that, didn't you? Absolutely how most definitely There was a mike the night before decision You know playing a great. You know that's on. The next day. Really nerve wracking. Just gone and. Not. Knowing what to expect came out really well at home that day and Bad and constantly been working on that conflict on ed working with that. Here's another thing that jumps out to me and looking at your junior year. I know you were walked a lot. Few teams wanted to pitch to you that had to help your disciplined, because it doesn't seem like you chase you instead of trying to do too much. You kind of just took what they gave you. Absolutely you know PA they're definitely. A Lotta walks at high full season an anyway anyway to help the team in on base, though second and third, and I'm getting scorn position for Dada hit me in so whatever it took to help the team out and. You know being a team player and help out 'til till reds fans about your outfield skills. Is there a position out there you're? You're most comfortable play. Now on a theatrical play all three Coach those and. To play I'M GONNA. Go out there and play one hundred and ten percent now I'm getting very strong arm, and I'm love for people out on. Routes that are baseball and Myself know thoughts and you know scar off the game hard in the right way without a senior season for everybody to watch. How big were those showcase events that you played in last summer? They were awesome and other. It was so much fun I'm going out there playing some grey competition on even even the coaches that were there sure so much knowledge and I'm just being there enough for me to be a sponge and listen to it all, and and just try to help me and put my game as much as possible. You were at Wrigley Field you won the under armour Homerun Derby. Take me back to that moment. How cool was that? That was awesome exchange. Being around great competitors, and you know coming on top and him. and..

"Mcallister Saturday welcome in our next guest. Big Fan of his work. He is a local filmmaker and writer and composer Jacob Traits He resides in Dayton Kentucky. He's done over Over forty seven short films since two thousand five. He's featured today in it great piece by Shannon Russell Athletic by the way he's done a project on the the professional baseball team Covington Blue Sox played in the Federal League back in nineteen thirteen The one thousand nine hundred World Series crosby field. His latest project is on the legendary Cincinnati Boxer Hazard Charles from our Annette. Pleasure to welcome in Cam. Miller how are you I am doing well? How about you good there? I am fantastic. His great to catch up with you. Do this for someone listening right now who who might have just said who was. Charles. Give them the cliff notes. Give them a couple of bullet points about who Charles was. Well I think he he was a world champion and to come from Cincinnati's west side and to make it out of their back in the forties and the fifties and the come out of that that environment To to fight the likes of Rocky Marciano Joe Louis. Cvs Joe he with his idol. His story is so fascinating everybody the drives around town knows as Charles the St the road but they don't know that there was a man behind that street name and there's a reason why he was a champion a lot apart work. Of course there's a lot of luck but I don't think that enough people know about his greatness and I hope that I can do small parties injustice and Kinda give him his due. Take me back three or four years ago. You're in Washington Parker. Drinking a cup of coffee and you decided it was time to do it as Charles Project. Right. I'm sitting there. I'm having my cup of coffee and as these two young gentlemen and they're arguing one says hey as a child. He's musician no politician on just shaking my head thinking. I want to go over there. Throw my phone in their fate. Google images this is Charles but I already had an idea about doing a thumb but that really set in motion that aspect of it and then watching the Dave Parker a documentary that was last year. That got me really excited because of the westside connection about neighborhood that rough and tumble area that Kinda gets glossed over. And the greatness that came out of there and other is one of those guys Tim. How do you begin? Researching a guy who fought in the forties and fifties and died forty. Five years ago. Thursday of this week right it was I stumbled upon a book by William de la. The Ring Ring magazine and he has a fantastic book going through youtube footage and just watching clips. Just it was unbelievable. How this guy who was known as a kind of a meek. He's really a boring guy. I mean he was shy. Iran's and fights as a kid he didn't want to be involved but when you put him in the ring he became this beast and I think that there's a story there he might have been boring and you might have not had the glamorous note the Mike Tyson esque streetfighting persona but he. He just woke up into this beach when he got in the ring and the likes to he fought. It's just unbelievable. Local filmmaker Cam Miller checking in tonight for a few minutes latest project. Charles I I loved and we traded notes this morning. When a boxer gets ready to fight he has to get his mind in the right frame in get going in to get in the right frame. You were buying things on Ebay. I you know how that goes and you want to get it pumped up. So I'm buying programs tickets then looking up things what can I get? I'm trying to make t shirts and then of course do that. You pay the Rocky Soundtrack. Yawning imaginary polly. And the next thing. You know you're in the zone and you're ready to go the I'd tigers lasting and Kinda give me right frame of mind to make much of it now you were. You were already into this one. And the pandemic hit talked to me about The complications there right. I had scheduled some interviews that I wanted to do. But it's kind of one of things it's well this happened but it could have been for the best because he completely change the dynamic. My film I went for making this. You know typical last dance. Kind of documentary. You're talking to people about what happened in going into and just letting tell his story. What did he want to say? I go through interviews. I go through clips. Were in a radio broadcasts where commercials and just kind of get to where he was like kind of led me into a different style of still not the talking head approach but more of let him tell his story. What does he want to say? Really let me interesting fascinating avenues. I'm just so thrilled with how it's turned out. We're on the track to being done. Where are you in wants done? What will you do with it? I probably will be finished by the end of July beginning of August. I'm looking at the end of August is showing it premiere probably a few online but maybe we can do something outdoors depending on how things are at that point but I WANNA do. Qa from like do with all my films and kind of get people together to celebrate this whether it's online or virtual or whether it's in person to kind of give him his due. I think is long overdue. He gets the story told so. I'll do that. I'll do a soundtrack that will come out. Hopefully in a couple of weeks if I finish it if I thought about the tiger a little bit lower me they'll get motivated and that'll be on spotify James and whatnot kind of like the soundtrack to the film kind of getting the mood. Because there's nothing like boxing and music. They kind of go. Yeah Yeah no question I WANNA go back in time and a little bit. And for those who don't know the Strand mentioned off the top of the Covington Blue Sox people have perhaps been too or heard me talk about smoke justice in Covington owned by Richard Dickman. There is a connection there between the Covington Blue Sox and you and smoke justice. Take me through that story. Well I showed my stealing the Kenton County Public Library and unbeknownst to me and the audience was once or Mr Richard and it comes up to me afterwards. And he's like you don't think about opening up this sports bar and I think I got an idea for theme. Well of course you want Major. Not He's got this fantastic idea to name Walter. Smoke just as after. The famous pitchers pitch for the Blue Sox and opening day on. May Ninth nineteen thirteen and I had no idea what to expect but you can only imagine going through the microfilm machines. You know those bad boys going through those nine hundred ninety eight and your board and your that sound is still embedded in my head and you're going through and and you and you get to this point where you discover the Blue Sox and then fast forward twenty years later and you've got this sports bar that opens up all these clippings of all these things you've found and photos. It's just a real ca carries on tradition. That's why I like to do is pass on things that people might have forgotten to the always remember what they did very well said for those listening. You have a youtube channel. You've got twitter. Tell them where they can find all the stuff films. I'm always tweeting. I'm always sharing things and of course. Today we'll do an Ode to that later on in the eight o'clock hour and a couple of guests to toss your way go front and center or leadoff hitter tonight sits any waits for the return of Major League Baseball and Chance to broadcast another season for Fox Sports Ohio. Let's dog little reds and baseball and acting and the rules academy the broadcasters challenge with from Fox Sports Ohio Chris. Welch how are you? I'm doing great and that's a lot to cover. Land is you're up to probably yeah. I'm I'm getting used to it. I'm try I've been finding things to talk about for a long time so so I take it. We've talked once before during all this. You still hanging in there. I guess you know what. We talked about You talked about attitude. I hope that Those that are making the decisions about Major League Baseball Right now. Have the right attitude. All country could really use spurts. We could use live sports. It was fun to watch what was going on over the weekend with the charity. Golf There's been some other sport sporadically on TV But I think baseball would go a long way. Especially now that you've baseball is up in planning a little bit It would go a long way to kind of getting everybody all minds off of how the latest to thirty seconds ago. Update on the coronavirus. Chris I ask you this the last time. I'll ask you again because I like to draw your pitching expertise. If in this this plan and I do air quotes. It's a three week spring training. Is that enough from a pitching standpoint in your mind. Yeah they should be throwing. Won't change your your level of expectation for what this baseball is going to look. I have a feeling it's GonNa look a lot more like what it used to roll the clock back a few years. Maybe even a decade or two. Because there's GonNa be more guys going out there with with your analytics with preparation time. Uh managers making more gut decisions because you've got something completely unknown which is a half a season scheduled that if you get the Pie and so it's going to be very interesting from that standpoint. Yes I absolutely as be able to get in shape after nine. Don't be on the roster. Go ahead go somewhere and training until you get ready. Let's talk movies last over this past weekend. Chance debuted at starlight drive in and Amelia Matthew. Modine had on the show last week. Jake hurts but I had on the show. It's a locally based movie filmed here in the area. I did not know until you tweeted about it. You had a role in chance do tell I do. Small Role Played Myself as a a coaching amateur baseball team. There was Art Team play against chances to and There was a play at the plate and I went over and and happened to be the game winning play and we want to talk Matthew Modine team a little bit chances to them up a little bit and what my byline started out to be almost maybe one or two minutes. I think they got it down about ten seconds so they weren't taking any chances straight time. Tell you Michael Bailey. Who he and his son row row produce the entirely. It's a very good movie. It's about teen suicide about how things can just get out of hand for teenagers and I recommend you know from an entertainment standpoint. Yes but also some educational standpoint. I it is. It's a fabulous movie and a great tale. They did a super job on it. You know I in talking with Jay Kertzman last week. Who plays at Sycamore he? He joked he said Matthew Modine taught him acting and Jake said he taught Matthew Baseball. What kind of sense did you get as as Matthew Modine in terms of a baseball guy the sense that he was a little bit of a baseball fan? But I don't get the sense that he played a lot growing up So those are always the tricky part of a baseball movie actor. It doesn company now under. It doesn't come to them. Secondhand is others but hey as a coach he's got great stage presence Modine does and you know. Stay back so many realize why. This guy's an actor and I'm not very interesting. It was great. We had him up Last year Actually a couple of years ago. Now that we wouldn't they feel mad and we put it We got him on the air a little bit and talk to the TV booth and it was really. And I thought now that's overly complicated as That's like Kinda depressing now. Going to get people all worked up. I just WANNA do some baseball conversation at least for the first hour tonight and I was struck by something. Jayson stark wrote in the athletic. And it's something I was asked about. I'm going to say a two or three weeks ago by listener and it came in the form of an email and and I politely answered an e mail. Something along the lines of. I really wouldn't worry about it one into if it happens. I really wouldn't worry about what everybody else thinks. And then Jayson Stark wrote about the very subject today and got joy vodka to comment on it and Bob Costas to comment on it and others around the game and I said all right maybe I mean maybe I was too quick to dismiss this. Maybe there is something here. For some conversation. I'll setup pert one of it and it's this the way sports are going to unfold are going to create a lot of different scenarios and it's GonNa look differently. We're going to view it differently. We're going to attend sports differently. Because you're going to be a whole lot different. This question was the one posed by Jayson Stark. What one of two? What if say the team team? Abc winds this world series in an eighty two game season. How will that world series title be viewed will it? We'll be were. The joy of it be lessened for for the fans will. The validity of it will the credibility of a championship. One in an eighty two game. Baseball season be damaged. He asked it in the form of what if the Indians win their first world series in seventy two years and Bob Costas. His response was well. You'd hope it doesn't happen this year. That meaning something that special that iconic after seventy two what happened in a more air quotes here legitimate season. Let me ask it in in this form because this is the way it was presented to me by the listener. What if the reds win the world series in twenty twenty in a season that will be reduced to just eighty two games? Does it lessen the validity credibility? The joy of that joy vodka was asked that question and he answered it for Jason Start. I will give you what he said. Heck I'm going to open up the lines. Five one three seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one and pound seven hundred on. At and T. Maybe I did. I didn't put enough thought into this to begin with because now there's like legitimate people discussing how this would be viewed. How will you view? It will exchange ideas next. I'm worried if the reds win a world series we won't get credit for it and I thought I man I told him I said jeeze things going on. I wouldn't worry about that and some that. Sometimes I pass on obvious things because I just. I don't view anywhere to take it and I'm not gonNa like make up something just to offer the other side. I don't. I don't like to over complicate things because I'm not a very smart man to begin with. Why wouldn't you whoever it is if the reds the Indians after seventy two years what the parameters are what the parameters are and that's eighty two games in this case. It appears like it's going to be the reds win a world championship a year. You'd better damn well believe I'm going to be on Fountain Square Celebrating World Championship Number Six. And we'll be able to enjoy it and he said I'll be honest with you. The more I think about winning the world series this year. I think it's freaking worth more. He said I think it would be even more enjoyable because these championships are associated with cities. So Oh man he said I think it would be fantastic winning it for your city in a year like this. I think it would be as good as it gets and quote. I love the line from Terry Francona. He said quote it is what you make of it if our guys are jumping into pile at the end of the year. They don't I don't know two hundred something days a year And they got a couple of guys. That are pushing eighty. I mean they are daily and now all right. Now tell me the truth. I miss you on facebook today to tell you about this anniversary. Were you aware this was the anniversary of your first Major League home run. I was not You know one would become you know I. I been remembered pretty well. 'cause I don't up to the plate. I'm not sure how I got into the game. We were up eight four. You replaced replace Joe in the seventh inning. I looked it up. Okay all the close to bunt. Yes can't win two three and one and I looked down at alleys grandma's and he didn't have the button on and about that. All right. I know Miss I or stepped out. Look back down to. Alexey went through the signs again. No but all right. I'm probably GONNA get fined for this but I'm swinging in peace and years later Johnny. Bench told me he said you can thank me for your first home run. Said how's that he said well sparking a button? A second sparky eight to four and let the kid hit. Wow that was a pretty historical game because I faked. We went on a pretty good run after that. In fact you did from that point forward you one forty one of your next fifty games. How about that? That's pretty impressive. And we put at least separated. It was an unbelievable run. I think we had a ten game winning streaks in there and just made it so fun you know. That was my first year so not knowing what to expect. Or how did this team really what they seem to be a lot of pressure on on that year because they had one in seventy and they didn't win and seventy two seventy three got beat in the division with the mets and now everybody was starting to say i? It's the big red machine. But they haven't won it yet. So you know that started just relaxing everybody discipline credible run from there on out and Doug me a special moment because it was your first major homer but your family was there that not right but you know they came up because just see miles south so they would come up to quite a few games and there were so many things here when people say what was your highlight of your career or your first year. We'll good night. You know you get cut. Bring Your College team three years later. You're in the big leagues. I hear you in the locker room with so many superstars and then golly it's hard to really put in the exact context. Yes exactly how fabulous and everything was. I'm so fortunate to be there at the right time. Doug I also I listened to the I found that game on Youtube. Today I listen to it and and you were the star of the game so and it was it was. It was funny because you you sounded so young and so nervous talking with Nuxie in the Post Game. What a moment that must have been. Well you know those guys that I've watched what the kid growing up into the game and then all of a sudden you're the guy sitting in the dugout with Joe Nuxhall. I mean if you listen to the broadcast the home run. He was more excited. I think than anybody. Yes and then s you know Joe you realize wow that's how special guy he was could not only was A great player and admired by so many people but I don't know of anybody that has a better name throughout Cincinnati history than Joe Nuxhall. Think about it. You're you're twenty four at the time you're from Lexington. You're playing on a team that becomes the big red machine. What what a moment in your life Nobody has built that bad. What so much of it. So much fun with it and But you know the great thing about it is anywhere you go and people say you're part of the big red machine without even thinking making name a starting lineup and There's not a whole lot of ball clubs that have people that remember the starting lineup Except for the ones you that when their local fans but shoot everybody can tell you who was on that team they were like Rockstar. It was just so fun to be around. Catch everybody up before I let you run and manage great catching up with you. What are what are you up to these days? What keeps you busy well. How did you become involved in a project like this? Well my daily who runs that flash baseball is white is really good taste. And she suggested he hired me moving and I read the script and and it was just so terrific. I love baseball and and so really. That's all they had to say the first couple of pages was that it that it was about baseball and I was. I was pretty much in Could kick give me an opportunity to put put on Baseball uniform and go and spend some quality time with with young athletes Who who always teach me about life? It is a Boy It's a. It's a powerful story. Powerful message isn't it? It really is and just say it's based on a true story about a young chance. They grew up there and and and I I don't know how. How put it in words? You know that you and I did grow up in a time of texting. And it's one thing for you to say that somebody or you're an idiot and I'm gonNA I'm GonNa kick your butt after school or something but with texting when you when you put it in writing and send it to. Somebody'S PHONE. It has a different impact than than than if If you say you know what I mean you've actually put it in writing and you send it to your personal device your phone and and it it. It carries a greater weight than than the words used to when we were in school. So Teen teen suicide is is a real problem and and We all have to do what we can to try to provide opportunity and and resources for young people who find who don't have somebody that can speak to them and help them through a dark period. Matthew how much time did you spend here shooting the film. I feel like I was. I was there for a couple of months but I think it was. It was probably the only about six weeks of you. Know a little bit of pre-production you know getting there and getting to know the kid and and kind of you know what I call get in baseball shape Getting to know Mike Daily and and his family and his son wrote the screenplay and His wife is in. The film does a wonderful job in the film and You know I I like to get there early and kind of soak it up a little bit. You know to for those who haven't seen the trailer. You play the role of chances coach. You alluded to baseball. Are you a big baseball guy? I am I'm a New York Yankees Fan which will probably make a lot of your local. They're upset but Yeah Yankees Fan and and I. I GREW UP IN UTAH. We didn't have a professional baseball teams. I've got to talk with him. Because this is clearly like sweeping the tri-state it is Joe Borough Jersey Mania that has unfolding the search for the number nine Joe Borough Jersey and who better than the epicenter of it. All the iconic cook sporting goods on Fourth Fourth Street downtown. Let's welcome in Eric. Cook Eric Lance McAlister. How are you? I'm doing great? How're you doing tonight? I am very well and I'm glad you could spend a few minutes. Take take me. Back Joe. Borough was drafted April twenty third. How would you describe the demand for the Joe Borough Jersey since that night? Well to be honest with you. It started about a week before that we were taking pre orders for these and really didn't know what we were getting ourselves into. We ordered a couple of hundred thinking. Well we older too. Many of these are people really going to be buying into this. You know and then you know we we we. We were closed down for a couple of weeks. We opened up last Tuesday morning and it was like Christmas morning. We had twenty boxes or burrow jerseys waiting for us and by Wednesday they were just about all gone bad. Oh Man I think everybody's frame of reference is back to Curson Palmer. D Do you have a rely recollection of anything like this when Carson was drafted. It's not even close. You Know Carson with Heisman Trophy winner first round pick but he wasn't Jodhpur phenomenon. Either I don't really understand it fully but the build up around Joe Burrell compared to Carson Palmer. It's night and day thrill. Media is much much bigger so as you mentioned you are. Now you're open right now. Is that correct? We are yes. We opened our doors. Turn the life back on last Tuesday morning. We have all the faith measures in place by the glass masks are required by anybody coming in so we've been Having walking customers as of last week yeah do you. Do you have the borough jerseys in stock or do you have to order them? At this point. We're still okay if you have if you're three. Xl Or if you're a toddler or a youth size we have those in stock still Every other size he ran out of like I said before. Probably in a day or so We went through a couple of hundred so we actually have more on order. They are telling us at Nike that we should expect him. Hopefully by the middle of June. Or give me an idea of what say for an adult size. Something that I would wear. What is the cost of Joe? Borough JERSEY. There eighty nine ninety nine. There's three different Nike Jerseys. If they make this is the cheaper of the three And Really Nice. He's had a manufacturing issue because of covid nineteen. It had to shut down a lot of their capabilities. Where they make these jerseys so really there only able to do the cheaper one four now. They told us during the season. They should have more. Hopefully knock on wood Capabilities to make all the others. I just checked my twitter feed and I have a question from listener. Only one of my listeners can have this question I will toss it to you. You See. Chris wants to know he has a Curson Palmer Jersey. Can he bring it in? Have you strip the Palmer off in so borough in? Yesterday I had a feeling that might come up. Yes we have done that before. We can certainly do advertising. Get in touch with us You know the of the great things about the bengals. They love recycling numbers you know from Rudy Daunton. The center dent then Jeremy Hill. That might be more of a cost. Effective way of doing the The burgers even buying a new one. Absolutely talking about Joe Borough Jersey Mania. That is unfolding. Were at the epicenter of all of it with Eric. Cook from Cook Sporting goods on Fourth Street downtown. Let me let me switch over to the reds for a second they had built up so much momentum in the offseason with so many signings did that translate into reds fans wanting reds jerseys. This off season you know I have a feeling it would. That's one of the negative things. And of course we have to keep everything perspective with everything going on in the world but we were really looking forward to a bigger red season than we've had in a Lotta years and because we were shut down for a couple of months we haven't seen it You know which is a shame but again I think whenever they start to play ball again. I think there will be that excitement again so I think everybody in the city is open for that question related to the Regin Shogo Akiyama if someone wants to show Jersey does the back have shogo or does it have well. I hope it has ocoee on our current store. Not You can go the other way too. That's beautiful. I love the flexibility. I've also always struck by this and I saw this when I went to your website again today. You guys have been around this true. You guys have been around since eighteen eighty eight. That is correct. Actually myself my cousin Ryan Cutting Kathy. Where the fifth generation? We're all working there now. "O'clock tonight. We are Loaded up pack tonight. We have a lot of different guest on a lot of different subjects between now and nine o'clock and then it's gambling fin with your reality check. Let's go straight out of the chute with early off hitter tonight favor of the show front of the show second round pick of the reds back in nineteen eighty managed for years in the reds minor league system than the Yankees System. Whatever twenty one hundred games? He's in the International League Hall of fame. He went in at two thousand fourteen. He managed Your Cincinnati Reds in two thousand. Three two thousand and five is always a pleasure to spend a few minutes with Dave Miley. How are you my good friend? Good to hear your voice and Me On argue. Well everybody good great what about you? We're we're hanging in. Their kids are going a little. Stir crazy but we're good. I thought of you last night because you had sent a text in the middle of the show I had. I was talking with Rick Green last night. Who made his Major League debut with the reds in June of ninety nine it was his only Major League appearance? He pitched five and two thirds innings. Gave up three runs. He never got another shot in the major leagues. You Happen to be listening. You recommended. The red sign him. You had him at Triple A. You got to tell him he was coming up. What what do you remember about grade? In that moment I'll tell you what he One of the best things about AAA managers. You know televised debate leagues and he was granted access. We call the Minneapolis and also can be so on Toledo tigers and then He was with the Milwaukee As his last year as a free agent and You know me and Buck always thought. Highly of sudden reached out to To Jim Bodenham. There are indirectly time and they're recommended them. They signed him and did a job force and it was great that he got a chance to go. Especially WHAT CINCINNATI. Boy As you said when you and you're probably so many stories over the years but that moment when you're able to see the look on their face when you tell them they are being called up. That's gotta be really cool. No doubt and I heard a little bit and it gets to hold a conversation with him last night but I I do remember When we told them we were on the road in Norfolk and Evidently couldn't get a hold of his wife. Lady the Ballpark and I looked at bucket. Grant Jackson Cohen said. Well thank you she calling me for and then you know. I didn't want to tell her over the phone. But now she gave Rick and it all worked out but Yeah that's definitely the best part of you know AAA stuff you can talk to the guy that. Aaa manager You know having to release guys was the worst but sending guys especially at first time like you. I remember Dan Balloons and guys like that of the world that they're going to the big leagues or something that to look on the face and they're coming through you I earlier in the week ahead. Eric Davis on the show. We were talking about the the decade the all decade team. The fans voted on you You played with Eric all the way back in one thousand nine hundred one with you gene. You played within through the system did you. Could you see his his greatness unfolding as you were a teammate of his our I tell you what he probably wanted. Best Athletes Ever seen her plate with he you know. I don't know if they're told you. The originally signed his shortstop and kind of like the Reggie Sanders story where he made of how many errors and they moved in the Senate filled and that was the year that that I the first year that I played in eighty one and you know just the adjustment. He made out there. I mean it just came so easy for them and You know like we talked to. It's probably been over the winter that last time I talked to Eric but You know just. He probably could have done anything. He wanted on high school basketball. Football didn't matter and Larry Bar and was drafted him out of La and And you know that just tells you how bad scouting was back in the day before him side. You mentioned Aaron Boone. And you had him with the reds did you. Did you ever think that? Get the at the time. That guy could be a major league manager someday. What do you think of him? becoming a manager where you would. What is bloodline I? I never gave it much thought that that first of all aid money. Getting that side of it You know with the blood line with the grandfather Ray Boone and Bob and you know Brett playing and all that kind of like the bell situation those guys they were just around baseball so many times. Peres's and guys like that I thought Aaron did a terrific job. Obviously New York's not that it's not the most easiest place to manage I'm sure but You know what I mean. I think it helps them going into that. Espn side of it where you know the the communication and different things like that but Aaron probably could have done anything. He wanted her baseball general manager. Or whatever so Very happy form talking little reds baseball with Dave Milo the former reds manager member of the International League Hall of Fame Whenever Twenty One hundred games in the minor leagues during his time. You also I forgot about this. I went back and it was looking this up. You had dion for about Twenty Game. Stretch it Louisville in two thousand and one and he was just odd. He'll almost four hundred for you and a twenty game stretch and got the call up. What was it like watching Dion? The baseball player Michael Right. He know we had a little past. I guess it was around. I guess it was ninety three after after the Yankees and all that we were in Atlanta and I got to talk to him for a long time and hadn't seen him for a while and then Jim Jim signed him as a free agent and You know he. He did twenty game stretch like he said he had. Most I remember about the is watching this guy. Go if it's not from first to third but if ever watching them hit a triple just amazing but he I mean he had he had the tools and You know what he was able to do on the football and baseball side of it and not miss a beat just terrific. But he did you. Are you mentioned scouting and between nineteen eighty five and eighty six those Denver teams you guys? Have Eric Davis Barry Larkin? Chris Sabo Paulo Neo. Rob Dibble some guy named Tracy Jones. I Dunno whatever happened here but how about that collection of talented Denver in those years. Oh my gosh unbelievable they have you have just physician players at that time and that was One of 'em that I think we had five catches on that roster. At one time it was alaniz nicely in and Keri McGrath and Joe Oliver Myself and getting anybody heck most time. I got playing in catching. I played who I believe. That's the thing that you could be around. Just watch those guys that they came in. You know like you said with Barry and you know it was a lot of fun to watch and You know that was a that was a great summer. Those guys were very unique and it was great to watch him. Go on and help reg do some great things and win the world series. What was it like as manager? The Cincinnati reds. Come to the ballpark knowing you could write somebody like Sean Casey into the lineup. One of my favorites. Yeah it was great. You know the toughest part. Probably there was nothing about it. I guess it was You know Bob who like I really had a lot of respect for. Is the one that that about doing was one? That was fired When they brought me up as the interim at first and we still had Aaron on the team and just the way that Aaron handle it was you know. It's something that I think about whenever you know when you brought up his name that's the first thing he doesn't mind. It could have been you know could have been an awkward situation you know. We ended up trading them to the Yankees as a matter of fact and I think that's the area that they run the beat the red sox but Gave a different governors out there. You Quick Story. Whenever I would give him a day off you know he'd never shut up in the dugout and I'm like I tell Jelly. And and you know mark various gadgets. Like this guy killing here anymore. So in the National League the Double Switches. So it'd be about the fifth or sixth anything like my kitchen change case gets you whatever and goes miles at that. Had the day off. I see man not anymore. Okay Danny graves that's That's Beautiful Hey. It is so great to hear voice. I got such a big kick last night out of you text in the middle of the interview with Rick Green. And it's it's good we could hook up but I'm glad you're you're doing well and stay safe and opening. We can talk again soon. All right pleasure you know you can get a hold of me anytime buddy. And hopefully we'll get through all this next time withdraw cow. Sit in the I'll be governed. W and then sitting in the booth. Hey that is a deal thanks. They'd take care all right there. You Go Dave Miley. He's one of my favorites. Yeah right in the middle of our interview last night with Rick Green and rick was talking about Dave and it was dave who so. I'm an recommended. The red sign even and was pitching. Well at triple eight eight year in Got The call and rick spoke glowingly of of Dave Dave sends me texts. Hey say hi to him before. He's he's done still ahead.
