"Lawmakers have put together joining me on a KOMO Newsline. ABC's? Lana Zak on Capitol Hill. Good morning. Lana. Many members of the president's own party are urging him to accept this deal. But the we're still hearing that it's the final draft is being put together. That's right. They are working on the final language here. On Capitol Hill, we expect that the committee will look at it later this evening and a VO can happen as early as tomorrow, I the house and the Senate where as of right now is expected to pass. But as you mentioned, President Trump continues to be that uncertain factor that that that leaves everyone guessing a little bit about whether or not we will in fact, avoid a government shutdown come Friday, but. Much more optimistic now than they have in the last several times we've been we've been groundhog day day. Yes, we have. And you mentioned the president is kind of the wild card here. And he made it very apparent yesterday. He was less than thrilled with this deal. What are the Democrats feel about it? The Democrats are feeling pretty good though. They know that they didn't get everything. They wanted Nancy Pelosi. The house speaker today was saying that it is a compromise. And as such there are other issues and other opportunities to try and get some more of the things that they wanted including permanent resolution on the question about temporary protected status for for certain immigrant, DACA, which still remains a big question, Mark and something very important to Democrats. But, but of course, she said before that she would give one dollars towards the border wall. Now, we know it's about one point four billion dollars towards protective border barrier. But but all in all this would be more of a win for the Democrats is for President Trump, certainly when you look at how much President Trump had been offered before we even have that first government shutdown, and the fact that it looks like he's poised to sign an agreement now that lesson that just shows how much more negotiating power, the Democrats have this time at the table. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell as this would be seen as a good sign. Normally he is recommending that the president signed the Bill into law, but the president does seem to act on his own accord. And some people have called it. His Fox News cabinet. How other people like? Sean Hannity, how dob how they respond to this. As you can expect some people on on the more conservative punditry side are saying that this is not a good deal for President Trump. Ann Coulter really coming out hard against the president. But these people don't have skin in the game. And they were urging the president to take that could take this action in the last government shutdown. It did not play well for him. And and it didn't like wonderful Republicans overall, according to the polling, so this time, the president seems like he's more willing to to to stand up to them rather than than now, what seems to be a United Republicans and Democrats here on Capitol Hill as well. As the American people who who are skill kingdom boarded with headlines like what happening over the IRS returns are not going to be processed because as quickly because of this tremendous backlog, all of these problems that continue to. Resist because of the last government shutdown. They would be they would be awfully upset if the government could not come together and have another deal. And so when we hear both Republicans and Democrats say it's now on you, President Trump that puts a lot of additional power on a pressure on the president that he didn't have last time. All right that could happen tomorrow. As you mentioned. Thanks again, Lana. Lana Zak on Capitol.

You need to know to end our show today. Right at starting at one thirty we'll get through some of the whacky est. Craziest stories that did not make it onto the air. We gotta give those things a chance to breathe one of the big stories of the day is a report from BuzzFeed news about the president told his fixer Michael Cohen to lied to congress about a Trump Tower project in Russia will be getting into that next. But we kick off swamp. Watch with this Pelosi V Trump match. We're going to drain the swamp of Washington, we're gonna have fun doing. We're all doing it. On one side of the ring is the president on the other is Nancy Pelosi and sitting ringside Lana Zak. This this back and forth between the house speaker and the president is taking on an interesting an accusatory sense today because Nancy Pelosi says that the president endangered her lives. Sorry, her life and the lives of other Americans by talking about the travel plans. Can you fill us in on this? Sure is great to be with you. Gary and Shannon. So I'll Seger Nancy Pelosi said today that she does not think of the president purposely created a security risk for members of congress and military officials and herself. But that is in fact, what her office says happened Pelosi said, quote, you never give advance notice of going into a battle area. You just never do. Perhaps. The president's inexperience didn't help him understand the protocol. The people around him though, should have known that because it's very dangerous. So the president is is being as kindly beaten up by by Pelosi. As possible as you guys know the congressional delegation was scheduled to meet with US troops in Afghanistan. And it never happens at those types of visits would be publicized in advance. Because it does facts pose a security risk on high level American targets. Go into a battle zone is this. I mean, the trip was already canceled. But is this because she then plan the plan was then maybe she could travel commercially there instead of using the government's plane. That's right, Shannon. So after nine eleven the speaker of the house was given was given military aircraft supported when especially when travelling over to a battlezone because the speaker of the house, according to the constitution is the person that is third in line in succession to the presidency. So so the president in his letter cancelled the the military flight that they were all supposed to be on. But he did say if you wanna go over there commercial that's up to you would that ever happen. Like is that even a possibility you would think not? It's crazy bizarro through the looking glass Washington that I currently live in apparently it was going to happen. And we're told that the congressional delegation was making plans to try and make their way over there commercially. But that they allege the White House leaks, those plans making it unsafe for any of them to travel, and so they have been they have been grounded. I guess I'm just confused is the suggestion that the White House started telling people. Hey United flight seventeen from DC to Frankfurt is going to include a high level congressional delegation. Or is it just that? There was an acknowledgement that they could fly commercial. Well, so it was certainly that acknowledgement was probably saw that in the letter from the president to Pelosi which was really which I received from the White House directly from the White House. Office. I it wasn't like this was something that was that was secretly linked or at least or anything like that. It was it was made public this letter. And and the president does go ahead. Fly commercial try me what what Pelosi's office, and and Democrats who were involved in. This are saying is that they're alleging that the White House. Actually, what does that beyond that? And and and leaked the information that they did intend to fly on commercial flights over there. The detail. Those specific details, I don't have an and and they are supposed to be confidential. So who knows the extent to which it was disseminated? But apparently, it was enough that the security and risk officers who were who were working on this plan said this can't happen. Well, Lana I think you hit the nail on the head yesterday. When you said that this whole fight over the flights and everything and moving the state of the union is just. Proof that these two sides are are pretty far apart when it comes to getting to any agreement on border security. That's right. And what we saw today we heard from the White House another another release that that that any military flights are not to be used by any members of congress without the express prior approval of the president's chief of staff, so anyway, that that it seems like these two can bruise one another it seems to be happening, and and all of this it's worth mentioning is happening without negotiations taking place. So these things are happening. But there aren't people sitting at the table who have any authority to negotiate an end to this shutdown. And that's the frustrating thing for Americans, click technicality, and I'm not sure, you know, the answer to this does the speaker of the house get secret service protection because they're in the line of succession. I believe today. Let me let me try and figure out the extent of that secret service protection. They they certainly do have do have protection from at a minimum capital police officers members of the leadership have that. But the extent of a secret service detail changes depending on on how you rank in the hierarchy. And so we do know that there are members of the president's first family, for example, that have the secret service. And and I, and I imagine that that there is some level of secret service coordination and protection for speaker Pelosi. But the extent of which I have to say well, gosh darn it Lana I'm gonna watch your Twitter feed. And look for the answer that up. All right up. Gary Zach you can follow her as well. "Thanks for joining us. President Trump apparently ignoring for now house speaker Nancy Pelosi's suggestion to delay his state of the union address in a letter to Trump Pelosi said, the annual speech should be delayed. Until after the partial government shutdown is resolved one of the president's top Republican allies is asking him to reconsider his plant exit from Syria after a deadly suicide bomb attack there today. South Carolina, Senator Lindsey Graham said he hopes Trump will look long and hard at what we're doing there. At least four US troops have been killed in the US patrol city Bj. Komo news time eleven sixteen. I believe it is vitally important that special counsel be allowed to complete his investigation that is attorney general nominee William Barr yesterday responding to one of the myriad of issues on the forefront of people's minds like whether or not he was going to allow Robert Muller to complete his investigation into the Russia probe if he is confirmed with me on the KOMO Newsline. Lana Zak ABC news. Correspondent on Capitol Hill. Good afternoon. Lana. Your time at least listening to his answers yesterday. What did we glean from what he said, and how it may or may not align with the president's views? Well, the the big headline here at the capitol were really dead barge. Said that he didn't believe that Robert Muller. The person is heading up a special investigation would engage in a witch hunt that the direct departure from what we have heard so often coming from the president. He also said that he has a strong personal relationship with Robert Muller and believed him to be a person of integrity. And that if the president had ordered him to fire Muller without causing that he would not do. So so in many ways, he checked off all those boxes that that Republicans and Democrats were looking forward to see that the attorney general would in fact, be a person independent of the president and and able to fulfill their duties and bar having that obligation as holding as the holder of the office during the first Bush administration. I think had an a certain advantage in coming to the table. What about the democratic response thus far their confirmation hearings continue here in just about twelve minutes? But what what soda vibe did you pick up from the Democrats yet? Today with regard to his responses. Nary positive Senator Dianne Feinstein, issuing a statement, of course, one of the areas in which there was more of a departure between Democrats, and and William Barr with over the issue of the the southern border in that bar said that he was supportive of the president's plans in sort of a general sense saying that that that the border having some sort of border barrier is impacted effective in stemming drugs that are trying to come across the border illegally, and and saying that inserting places along the border that that was necessary. He when he was short of exactly what the president has has claimed when it comes to the border wall. But but in many ways seem to be aligning himself, theoretically at least with the president is switch gears here real quick lineup. What's the story there?
