"For 25% off your order. Well, Alex, last time we had you on the show, it was to talk about the latest on Kyrie Irving. We're basically a quarter of the way through the regular season now. Where do things stand there? Are there any updates or has it just been crickets? Not really. I mean, we've asked Steve Nash every few weeks and he'll just say they keep in touch and they don't really talk about basketball. So that seems to have become his go to line when asked about him. Kyrie's kind of flown under the radar. No one has publicly shared anything about what might be up for them with shaping if he's working out and his teammates haven't really divulged if they're talking to him or what that interaction's like. Does it seem like the nets are expecting him back at all? Or does it seem like they kind of moved on? I think it's definitely out of sight out of mind for them right now. You know, their stance seems to be. If he wants to come back great, you know, they've kind of, I don't draw on the line. Is the word because I mean, it is the city mandate of being vaccinated to get in a Berkeley center. So they've just kind of let their stance be known. He hasn't been shy with where he stands. And it just seems like that really hasn't changed. Well, we did the big picture flyover of the nets 15 and 6 start to the season earlier. But focusing a little bit more is there a glaring weakness you see on this nets team? Yeah, a few, actually. I mean, their depth has already been tested, you know, Joe Harris is out. One of the league's top three point shooters for it looks like up to two months after just undergoing ankle surgery this week. Nick claxton, who's arguably their best offender, has mistimed you in a non COVID illness and that really seemed to impact his conditioning. He's still ramping up to get back with them. They're not a very good rebounding team. They're ranked towards the bottom of the NBA in rebounding. They rank towards the top of the NBA in three point shooting percentage, but they don't really have a lot of healthy shooters right now. So they only really rely on a handful of players and if an injury happens to any of them, especially without Kyrie, obviously they're in more trouble. And if one of Kevin Durant James horn has an off night, that's not often, but if it were to happen, who steps up is kind of a bit of a guess at times. And finally, Alex, coming back to Lamarcus Aldridge, when it's time for him to retire. Can he do it? Or does he need to win a championship to feel like he accomplished what he set out to do? And then he can feel content retiring. I mean, I think he should already be proud of what he's just gone out to do. You know, I mean, coming back from a heart issue, he's made over $200 million his career sent an all star appearances, no Hall of Fame caliber resume. I mean, no one would have blamed him if he retired given the reasoning he had for it, but I think right now you know he's happy he's healthy and he's still showing that he has something to give an NBA team. So it might be a while before we answer that question. Well, thank you so much Alex for telling us the story. Thank you for having me. "Out. Like, oh, okay. You know, he went back to his apartment in Brooklyn, his heart was still racing. And he just was up all night dealing with until he started texting team doctors until 7 at 8 a.m. and that whole experience spooked him. And it's like, all that research was kind of like first down the drain with one game because then I had never been in that position for. It was a very scary night for me. A scary experience during the game. A few days later he tweets that he was retiring, which was a bombshell to everybody at the time. He went to the hospital for an irregular heartbeat and retired. Today, Lamarcus Aldridge, jockey, says it's time to put my health and family first. So he retired from the NBA at age 36, and with 15 seasons under his belt, how did he start spending his time? And how did he deal with that transition? He was searching for himself. He made an appearance on NBA TV, you know, kind of see if he'd be interested in maybe getting on our side of things with the media. He dabbled in some real estate and commercial stocks and he talked about, you know, with our own sham Shirai in a sit down in June about battling depression, you know, he wasn't expecting to have to walk away like this. You know, he said he was having a lot of fun playing for the nets. And obviously, you know, as we've discussed before on this podcast, I mean, the nets came very close to the Conference Finals last year with Kevin Durant's shot over PJ Tucker. He said that was a hard series to watch. Because I think if you're a competitor and you always feel like you can help and you could try to make things better. So it was definitely tough watching it. And I did feel like, you know, if I was hearing, I could have definitely done something. Kyrie ever got hurt in that series James Harden came back injured in that series. It was really just the Kevin Durant show for most of that series against Milwaukee. So he said it was tough just watching Kevin Carey the nets without much of a supporting cast and wonder what could have been if you were healthy and able to help him. So he's out of the game, trying to figure out what's next. When does he get that spark of an idea that maybe he could come back? It's funny. I asked him this specific question and he said, he doesn't have an exact moment of realizing that he could play again. He described that whole period of his life that we've been touching on as a bit of a blur. And throughout all this, he was trying to find a way to just stay in shape while retired. So, you know, he would be trying to just get on a treadmill and see if he could just work out like, you know, you or I would without having issues with his heart. I just remember each step I took, you know? He just felt better and better. I felt more confident with, you know, he said that I passed and you know, I think. And that's kind of we really went to his comeback was he was able to kind of slowly build from that without really any issues with doctors monitoring him at the same time. But as you wrote, while everything was headed in the right direction with his health, it wasn't so simple as just snapping his fingers and getting back to the NBA. Can you tell us about some of the hurdles he had to clear there? Yeah, so first he needed clearance both from the NBA's doctors and then the net sent to Rome to clear him. And in truth the bigger pushbacks he got was one from his agent Jeff Schwartz of excel who kind of thought maybe, you know, how about you take a little more time on this, you really think it through? And then also, you know, that's general manager Sean marks. He said to him, you know, why would you do this? But I tried to talk him out of it, you know? You don't need this. Why would you come back, you know? And I think it's important to see the conviction. And if you want to see the passion on this play and the urge and not that he was just bringing the sky back to kind of feel like he could do it again, but also, you know, that he wants it as bad as they want it for him. And that's exactly what he got. That's why he's back with the team. Hey, I'm still capable of helping his team win. I still can bring some to the table. So that's why, because I still love the game. I want to play. So Lamarcus Aldridge gets clear to return, officially rejoins the nets. And his season started a little slowly, but you wrote about a big milestone moment in late October. Help us relive what happened in the second half against the pacers and why it was so significant. Yeah, so when Lamarcus retired, he was 49 points shy of the 20,000 point mark and prior to him only 47 people had reached that Pinnacle and you haven't Durant talked a bit about how when Lamarcus retired, he realized how close he was to that and he's like, man, you know, he came so short, you know, and that Adam a bit. And I'd actually ask him a few games before if he knew how close he was in 20,000 points, and he said, he wasn't really keeping track of that. What he did take the time was the rest of the team was and kind of reminding him monitor he was conscious of it. So, you know, here's Lamarcus in the huddle against the pacers. Friday night hoops at Barclays center out of the timeout Craig met by Durant. That's how he trolls Kevin Durant. I think I'm a basket away and Kevin Durant said I want to pass you. I want to have the historic assist on it. Patients defense had other plans. They kind of blitzed Kevin and he had to get rid of both. Durant gives it up. Carter mismatch. Aldridge really feeling it. Marcus Aldridge has now cracked the 20,000 point plateau in his career. 48 year he was laughing on his way down to court. He was kind of pointing at Kevin like didn't go the way we thought, but here we are. Came out of retirement to return to this team felt there was unfinished business that's been a mantra for this organization and gets to experience that. 20,000 points. Less than 50 he's talked about since his time back how after having the game taken away from him in such a unique sudden circumstance he has tried to live in a moment more. You know, just soak in the moments more, you know, enjoy the camaraderie and you know just being here. And I think, you know, when you see life, I Kevin Durant, running down the court after that shot against the patient that really kind of comes out. Los Angeles Lakers Could Fill out Roster With DeAndre Jordan
"Just give us a little on. What you think's going to happen with andre jordan was traded to the pistons. Everybody's yeah he's going to be out and that means he's going to be the next guy that the lakers will go get what do you say i think he is I think they're the most likely team to get him But there's just. I never say never with bio guys even because this is kind of been the rumor for three or four weeks at this point That this happened in brooklyn and it was just a matter of were they going to do the bio for him was he going to have to be traded. I if it say brooklyn a whole lot of money the fact that they they just save millions of dollars on their luxury tax bill by doing it this way. Also nicer de'andre like deandra got that because he was part of the kevin durant kyrie irving initial big three in in brooklyn and he was just. He's friends with all those guys. They played on team usa together and he was essential for them in signing with the nets. A little while back and it was a him signing that he gets paid twenty million a year that is not his market value. They overpaid for him. In the beginning as part of a like a sign let sign kevin durant and kyrie irving and it was you know finally worked out that way but at some point you make so much money and your they have a lot of guys at that position but they you know straight into detroit. They they They're going to do a buy out. He's going to give back a little bit of money. Detroit gets four second round out of it so they get something And also some other some other complicated salary cap things but we all thought lamarcus aldridge was going to miami. Last year on the market he ended up going to brooklyn so until he clears. Waivers and intel other teams have a chance to approach the andre. I wouldn't i wouldn't say it's likely or expected or anything like that. I would use much more. Vague words. you know. He fits with the lakers. He would fit in that role. I think would have a pretty well defined role and if you're on the buyout market and you're gonna sign for minimum like that's what you're looking for is someplace you can play.
Paul Millsap Agrees to Deal With Brooklyn Nets
"The brooklyn nets just signed paul millsap which is actually a really good signing and up for them but now they are also the front runners to sign lamarcus aldridge. Who is coming out of retirement if you remember aldridge retired just a few games into his nets time over the last season. Is this a big deal or no deal. This is a no deal. I don't mean to be critical. But when i saw that headline run across the bottom the paul millsap. There was a reasonable reasonable amount of. He's still in the league question marks that came up for me and under this kind of hard to say so. If you're going back to guys who were literally not in the league as well lamarcus aldridge. I mean i just don't see these being impact. Pickups i mean good for them forgetting contracts but it's not. It's not moving the needle for me in the nba circle.

"Some really intrigued to see. I hope we see them in the playoffs at some point. But i'm not too worried about the nets. As i said when we did the the expecter episode like i didn't even consider i said like if aldridge were to get hurt for the rest of the season i wouldn't be couldn't like that nervous about brooklyn so don't think my stance has changed. No you were wrong then. And now you're gonna pay for it. Michael that's the only way i can see it No i hear your point. I mean it's not absolutely devastating but they had assembled all deep record there with different options. And you know depending on how things go across the course of a series. I could see that frontline getting worn down or getting into foul when we saw with embiid really having his way with brooklyn At least what was available last night before we dig into 'em and how sensational he's been this year. I just think we need to tell the sixers fans. They made a big mistake on wednesday night. michael they should not have boo'd kevin durant in the manner that they did if the nets and sixers meet in the playoffs. And there's a game in philadelphia. I promise you kevin durant will score at least forty points in that game right it down. Now he was looking around all miffed on the bench. I'm sure you saw his reaction. Why are they doing me on. Not even playing big mistake is not going to forget that and you should've taken that one back sixers fans. I know you're happy to be back in the building. Everyone's glad to have fans back in the building when it safe and appropriate big mistake. Michael big mistake i. I'm calling it right now. You said forty in the game. He's gonna have forty at halftime. I'm sorry that was a big mistake. I totally agree with all right man all serious this year with them beat. I know you wrote about him this week. I got the sense that maybe you were doing some of your dork stat diving and coming across some wacky stats and you were like. I've got turn this into a column. Am i right. Well you told us before you know you like to kind of just dig in deep into the database and then when you find a number you want to explore it and ask about it and so forth. I think this was your explanation for your clink cappella defensive player of the year nomination. Call him a couple of months ago..
Brooklyn Nets make waves for bringing Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge to New York
"It up. The Brooklyn Nets are now a quote super team. I mean, they kind of already were after they traded for James Harden earlier in the season, the pair with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, but now that they've acquired Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge via buyouts, the cynical MBA social media sphere is crying. Foul. This nonsense has to stop all your lies. Most have been hating hard on both Alders and Blakes is gained for claiming them washed up has been, But now that they can ride the coattails of the Nets Big three and potentially win a championship. It's unfair. Come on, then. That's your doing what any organization would do if given the opportunity, acquire as much talent as possible, and if they do win a championship?
"lamarcus aldridge" Discussed on Open Floor: SI's NBA Show
"Three. Wow maybe yeah. I don't see it. I'm sorry i might be like a four point five but you know my heart. I kind of want something good to happen for lamarcus. I do feel like he's kind of gotten a bum shakes out throughout his career. Okay one to ten for drummond. One being the lakers just decide. This wasn't really a good move at all. We're sticking with markelle saw because of his basketball iq or sticky with mantras harrell because of his energy. And you know. He is getting dp throughout the playoffs. Ten being it's this new return of big physical lakers bully ball and andre drummond. Lebron anthony davis are out there as an all-star trio just dominating the glass and bringing rebounding back going all the way to the title one to ten where drummond fall also a three. I'm sorry i just i. I actually think that the the the likelihood of him doing potential maybe damages probably too strong of a word but ruffling feathers in the locker room is higher than him. Impacting winning on the court is kind of how i view that addition wow i actually go five simply because of the the yokich matchup and this could just be influenced too much by dwight shenanigans. But i do feel like they might be trying to encourage andre drummond to get into that kind of clown mode right just being like super annoying and bouncing around. He really shouldn't do that like he's thirty. Five years old yet like settled down. Well that would be my strategy. If i was the lakers because yokich match problem. I think he's better than he was in last year's western conference finals. He's got a better roster. He's got more help. And the lakers are coming in. Probably in that potential matchup without quite as much continuity and chemistry as they enjoyed last year. So i'm just saying they could be motivated to pull out all the stops in that one. So i could see him being very helpful there in a way mark assault i may be. My treasure aren't quite as much but past that i'm with you likely finals. Matchup with brooklyn drum is probably not help too much. He could also help as a body against embiid. You know that could be another one if if philly made the finals. Where have you ever have. You ever watched Joel embiid play andre drummond. I'm imagining it's not going great. But here's here's the other thing that i'm imagining is that you know mantras herald just giving up five consecutive And so it's more about limiting the scope of the damage as opposed to like. Hey andre go there on a lockdown joel. I'm sure that's going to go. Well no i mean that's a that's a really accurate point. But i think i'm just generally more down on these than you are and we haven't even talked about Gorge jiang going to san antonio spurs not a glimmer market At all but a team that could use some size some space at the five win. Jaka portals on the bench you know. They're playing drew eubanks attend. And he's okay. But if they wanna. I think they've upgraded at that position and kind of replaced. Aldridge a little bit. So that's an and just generally kinda. When i look at like..

I'm going to spare you the entire details. But casey us solid. I don't know six thousand words taking the nba's competitive balance landscape to task by virtue of these buyout situations where a team like the brooklyn nets can go out and grab lamarcus aldridge. A team like the los angeles lakers can just pick up an drummond and drop them right into their pocket It looks like the milwaukee bucks might be able to add austin rivers. Which i think is actually kind of a sneaky edition that maybe should really be infuriating. People accept milwaukee's not that big market brooklyn l. a. team that tends to get so much of the backlash in these conversations. But casey's general premise was that small market teams should be livid and their fans should be livid because players tend to go to the larger markets in these situations the a lot of times a smaller market teams. Whether it's a cleveland and drummond's case a san antonio in aldridge's case footing the bill for these bio players in other words there almost paying them to go away and and gravy train onto a title contender. And i'm curious when you look at the state of this developing buyout market here which i think has accelerated over the last five years or so. Do you view this as a critical problem for the league. If you're adam silver would you be tried to rain this in because we are seeing some really big names also including blake griffin sort of exploit. This loophole to give themselves a second chapter for their careers. Yeah i mean. I want to start just by saying that Howard beck wrote a really good piece on sl dot com kind of outlining why this is viewed as a humongous issue particularly from the perspective of those small market teams where there is a disparity in the league. Everybody knows it. If you're glamour market you have an inborn advantage to building a consistent championship contender. That's just kind of how the league is when i look at the buyout situation. I mean it's obviously not perfect. It's not ideal. It's not even fair. But the way i kinda see it. I think there are some tweaks you can make to improve it. But i i kind of like there's two things one blake griffin an lamarcus aldridge. Are they both signed with the with the nets. I'd think that either one will be on the floor in crunch time of a playoff game for that team. It's not to say that they can't help in the regular season and that they will won't be in the rotation potentially in the playoffs. But like i think their names are a lot more impactful than their actual production like. They are not even close to as good in all. Seriousness is bruce brown or joe harris or jeff..

"He's probably still one of the best of the best defensive player in the entire league now. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of voter fatigue when it comes to jaanus but how do you handicap the mvp race right now. Yes so it's funny because the first half of the season is very much been about your it. Start off with lucas. The front runner because vegas so the oddsmakers said so and that was more about you. Know a lot of luca enthusiasm and excitement but the mavericks were never going to be good enough for luca to be the mvp. You got to be as we've discussed top two or three team and your conference top four minimum unless you russell westbrook a few years ago which we won't discuss so it very quickly became embiid versus lebron and i think maybe three or four weeks ago. The consensus was the bronx kind of has the slight lead. And then we got to the break and it was embedded got the got the lead. Meanwhile yoke it just creeping up because the nuggets have gotten their footing and they're looking like they will be the team we expect again. Same thing. Denver's gotta finish top four. I think in the west where yokich to be at the top of a lot of ballots. But he's gonna be in there. Chris yokich it's been incredible this season and so at a minimum. I think there's a three way race as of right now because the nuggets the record will be there. I believe. and he'll be in the conversation with lebron embiid then it becomes okay or the clippers dominant enough that we consider coli. Can we separate from paul. George do the blazers. Cj mccollum back as they get back. Maybe they pick baldrige. Lillard been incredible and has kept them calm more than competitive. He's he's he. He helps them. Just rebound from that rough start without any help. Really lillard is going to be in this discussion for sure. Then we jaanus so. I always take offence at the voter fatigue thing. Oh they're tired. they wanna move onto something else. Obviously i'm saying this as a voter. But i don't think i've ever been for teach by mvp say like. I don't want to vote for this guy anymore. Well he's vote for the. I personally have never had that happen. What i will say about yoenis though. Is this because it's a different standard and people will say it's the same thing for you. Get the youngest. Our you go back to. What was it twenty eleven. did you vote for. Mvp the new york times. Then in the times did not allow us to vote on postseason awards so i had a nine year span there where i didn't vote okay. If you had been a voter back then would you have voted for lebron or derek. I'll be totally honest. Chris it the years that i didn't vote because i was not voting. I didn't do the same exercise. I don't think i even wrote about it. We didn't even do the perfunctory column. And so it's hard to even some of the. Here's i voted if it's far back enough. I can't remember what my rationale was. So look it's easy to say now. Lebron should wanted over. derrick rose. it's easy to say now that voters got swept up. Indie derrick rose chicago bulls frenzy and narrative of this young amazing team coming together over achieving best record and league sixty one wins or something that year right and why they also got swept up in the negativity. Ron joining yes. Lebron had just done the decision. Which at the time was viewed as a high crime and misdemeanor and people didn't want to vote for him..

"I've seen phoenix suggested as a spot for him back up to deondraye. Make a sign there. Before we went to san antonio almost phoenix ends up and say you know brooklyn does he supplant deondraye jordan as the starter so like you know if he goes to fill that we're again and i've seen that's just a two. They could use a backup center but he'd be backing up embiid. But you're willing to be a backup more more more amenable to that. If you are contending for a title now so portland is just like i say i think aldridge is strictly a center at the stage based on his mobility or lack thereof and who should be guarding and they've got to centers once nourish comes back so he'll he'll land somewhere good. There are plenty. I just mentioned a bunch of in milwaukee's another there are plenty of good to contending that could use lamarcus aldridge assuming he hits free agency. Yeah still good player and you're right. Context is king here. Because if you're aldridge and not only do i think it's about wanting to be a backup on a rebuilding team but you sign there in two thousand fifteen. You're a big reason why they won. Sixty plus games went to the western conference. Finals is got to be some ego in in that situation. Where it's like. You're the starter forever there. You don't wanna be a bench guys sitting behind like jaka pertile with that group as they Kind of scuffle into the playoffs. So obviously what happens if he gets bought out after march twenty fifth. Because i do think he can make an impact on a contender. A couple of things. I wanna get to what it comes to the second. Half one of the biggest stories. I'll be following is if the jazz can continue this torrid pace jazz. Have the best record in the nba. They've gotta great offense. They've got a great defense. They've got three all-stars. They've got the front runner for sixth man of the year right now. They're extremely well coached. They check a lot of boxes howard but there are still plenty of people skeptical about the jazz and their ability to be a real championship team. When i look at u-top one reason i'm optimistic. About their future. Media future is that. I don't see anybody on that team doing anything. That is outlandishly over their heads. But i i don't see anybody doing playing so above and beyond how they normally play that it has to come back down to earth. Maybe you can make the argument. That jordan clarkson will eventually revert back to the more radic shooter that he's been and not the six-man front runner that he is but donovan. Mitchell this is just another step in the progression of a great player. Mike conley last year was kind of the aberration. This is the mike conley. We know from his days in memphis. This is a really good player. Rudy gobert still great defensively. I mean he's always been great defensively offensive with this year. I think he's having the most impact that he's had from screen setting some of the rim running that he's been doing so nothing that i'm seeing suggest that there is a big fall set to come now. They could still lose some games. I mean when they play some of these top tier teams. They could scuffle. But i'm not looking at the jazz as being poised for any kind of big fall now when we get to the playoffs what happens. There is donovan mitchell. Ready to be the alpha in the fourth quarter of a big series. Is mike conley able to be that. Second offense option could joe angles make shots a lot of questions there but as far as the second half of the regular season goes our. If they're healthy. I'd be surprised at the jazz are not the number one seat. What do you think. I think they're going to be the number one seat..

"Some of the second. Half story lines and there was some breaking news on wednesday night. When gregg popovich the spurs coach announced that lamarcus aldridge would no longer be with the team as they have mutually agreed to part ways. The spurs will try to trade aldridge. Who's in the last year was contract. If they can't the expectation is that they will negotiate some form of buyout and aldridge will hit the open. Market i would. I'm not shocked by this development. Howard surprise the little because san antonio is very much in the thick of the western conference playoff race aldridge while being significantly removed from his all star form is still averaging about fourteen points per game. He shooting around thirty six percent from three still a very effective reasonably effective offensive player but he was moved to the bench last month. And this is first time since aldrich's rookie season that he has been he's played with the second unit and i don't think that sat well with him i think he still fancies himself a starter and early starter on that san antonio team so i guess i give me your reaction to the spurs and aldridge agreeing to part ways and what do you think the market is going to be for him. It points up again. The spurs are always going to do things the right way they you know. They're in the midst of a basically a youth movement. They're certainly trying to develop a there. What they hope will be their new core. Going forward and lamarcus aldridge came in at a time that they were still highly competitive and their best. Now a low playoff team that will get knocked out in the first round and so you know they needed to recalibrate and if lamarcus aldridge is not a starter and if that doesn't sit well with him and and they wanna do right by him. That's that's the spurs way. They're doing right by him and he's they're doing right by each other. Both parties are of course you on board with this that okay we're gonna we're gonna put put you know Let marcus aldridge. Sit for while we figure this out. I don't think the trade scenario is that likely. I mean this is not quite blake griffin territory. It is andre drummond territory. It's a lotta money lamarcus. Aldridge twenty four million this season. It isn't expiring deals. Twenty four million. Just hard to move in this league. There aren't that many teams that can put together the contracts to pull that off and not give up players that they would rather have. And if you know that everyone else's balking if you're one of the four five six teams that might want lamarcus aldridge and trying to figure out whether it's worth trading for him and you look at those other teams and you think well none of them are going to make this deal either. Then you're assuming he's going to get to the buyout market. He's going to be bought out and you're going to have a crack at him in free agency. So why are you giving a bassett's a they'll do their best to to attempt it. I just i don't. I don't see it i think ultimately he's a free agent. I think that's the most likely outcome. I do think there are a couple teams to watch. I think boston is going to be very much..

O. A. I. San Antonio Michael Bartlett back to you and you know and everybody outperform the way it they've been performing you know you don't expect ten points from doctor put in double digits he gets eleven Patty mills has been right now Patty has been probably one of the more consistent guys on this team next to demarre in brand he's averaging right now career high in points at twelve he has sixteen tonight the martyr Rosen is putting this team on his back right now so I don't understand if there are people out there that are saying well tomorrow the Rosen is the reason they're losing demarre Rosen had thirty one tonight I don't know what else to do more to Rosen can do you can't say he shot the ball bad nine of thirteen thirteen of seventeen from the free throw line at the end of the game yeah there were a couple costly Turner are costly missed free throws but if that's what you're gonna go at your food Nick picking very very finely bring Forbes nineteen points tonight get out he would basically he was our only three point threat along with Patty you know the guy I've been criticizing all year Marco Belinelli Marco finally showed up tonight Marco had ten points tonight off the bench you know do John say coming off the bench tonight he only had six meant he would he'd only played like six minutes in the first half and he winds up getting fifteen points in the second half Rudy gay Rudy gay been kind of law of a little bit of a law all the past couple games Rudy goes for eighteen the night you know Trey Lyles only get seven minutes doesn't score demarre Carroll gets ten minutes doesn't score but right now I'm not big on on on wearing as that as a crutch it's you gotta have your your main guys that are here for scoring do their job and right now lamarcus Aldridge is not doing his job and I I I just right now we said in the past couple of games coach Mitch Johnson said the other day we just cannot have a complete game you know if one can if one thing goes right another thing goes wrong get out again we have another night to where we only have twelve turnovers yeah we lose the game you only have thirteen personal fouls which we pride ourselves on is committing the Lena committing the fewest amount of files you shoot fifty two percent from the field nearly fifty three percent you shoot nearly thirty eight percent from three point range on numbers like that we're only expected to win right yeah you you score one thirty two you got those numbers will you out rebounded them we're supposed to win this game but yet right now we just can not find a way to put everything together we we take basically twice as many free throw attempts twenty nine for us fifteen for them again right now it's unfortunately the NBA is coming down to the hold the the one word that a lot of GM's hate to hear and we hit what hate to hear the analytics of sports right now is take as many threes as possible and even if you make thirty percent three is a more than twos unfortunately you know in in Washington made sixty percent tonight watch sixty percent is a lights out shooting three point shots did you hear sixty percent you think okay wall maybe that was like a low number you know maybe they only took ten ten threes you know just quick man you know six of ten that sixty percent I'm not gonna try to do any any other map besides that but you think it's a long number of three attempts per makes but no they Jack up thirty and hit eighteen we Jack up thirty two but only had twelve you know that six that six three may differential eighteen points like you said right there eighteen points and it's just I just I I I don't know right now what they can do to fix this unfortunately you know the defense we just have to accept the fact that we're gonna give up a hundred plus points all hundred and ten plus points a night it's being able to make the stops when you need them is what alludes us right now and for god sakes right now are acutely fuel is going on your available horrible offense of drought we go on a twenty two to three offense of drop which based on what we were up ten in the third in Washington goes on a twenty two to three one in the third quarter completely flips it and we could not come back from that it's good I I mean right now it's just it it's our story right now you know we just cannot have a complete game unfortunately and you know it it's depressing it's depressing because I'm not used to it as a purse fan I see a sandy and Renee of been waiting there for a long time I want to since they've been waiting I want to get these phone calls in here let's go to sandy spurs lose to the Washington wizards one thirty eight to one thirty two sandy thank you for waiting your on spurs react on twelve hundred W. away I go ahead sandy this is our game winners I mean come on guys we can't have that rainbows every day this guy's probably feel worse than any of us ever will the way the way the ball rolling for we don't have any real difference in foxtrot compared the past like because the players of the year like quieter did or a bridge call in and you know that's just the the way the the trade show we need you know we need some help that's for sure but man just stick with the spurs manages our city our team one man yeah thank you it makes me sick to hear this crap thank god give us the bloody bones over the years and we just cried about losing seven games it's disgusting thanks a lot man a call sandy it's good to hear some spurs fans who get it have an appreciation for who the spurs have been for the last twenty three plus years and where the spurs are in again as Elizabeth said it's still November there's a lot of season left there's time to turn this around let me go to Renee to one OO seven three seven twelve hundred Rene you're on spurs react welcome Renee Hey Chris how are you Sir I've been better man thank you okay we've been friends two thousand seven when I make use at that time with you yes yeah use of the play the song goes first go but nobody paid attention until seven years later at that time the spurs won the championship yeah well one of you know was going on and then they expressed in you because of your guys it took seven years for this first you get what they were at twenty years you're right but remember what's been spoiled we have four or five superstars it takes time to make your co stars so it doesn't really matter I struggle along time you never once asked where anybody of station begin we did I don't know what the fans and these plans today it's not the same what he used to be okay I'm what is up to you all right Rene thank you for the phone call I I I didn't totally follow you there at the end but thank you for the phone call thanks for waiting final phone call is get Steven here spurs allude to the Washington wizards one thirty eight to one thirty two that seven in a row lost for the spurs Steve thank you for waiting you're on spurs react welcome Steve Hey guys how are you we've been better you know what actually we shouldn't even feel like we've been better because we it's still a beautiful place to be this first hand and what the tradition and and everything but that would accomplish but I wanted to give a little perspective as well and I or not you know like you said there's a lot of she's lost a lot can happen and the power is I think that they're not tell level if they are but I am be will all use the term bewildered by some of the decisions as far in New Jersey they were mentioning rumor that got to market Gerald they had held off on what's retaking his decision to come to us first because he was getting significant menace in New Jersey last year and I I looked out your to the P. Wilder's meet defensively because there are some broken issues defensively Amari Carol is a defensive player and if your if the spurs are going to play a half court offense with their starting unit which arose and Aldridge and that's the way we're going to go it's okay it's very difficult to do that where wait for and and a rosary in the lineup and so so I I you know I think there needs to be some some personality judgments I'm just telling you but what I would like to see is your need Jon J. go back to the bench permanently bring light to the starting your neck starting you're not and and he gave the starting and I know it's a significant changes and I don't know that would happen with Forbes putting chords in the bass but the first one big and went back to their defensive identity they control big thank you bill half court they have the personnel to do it slow down started again and then look back at your run let those get let Murray for our you know you would have you would have guys that could that that would come off the bench you know I I I'm not a I've never been a fan of Belinelli because of potential liabilities but but these birds are using players like Belinelli that significantly struggled defensively and it's how do you spell Nelly's game when you shoot a lot of ballots shot but strong words struggle to get back defensively so I it's your little constructive thought sensibly we can't we have an identity potential it's just not there yet but it's still Gloria thing to be a first take your word bar looks of of of win or lose this year it's one year and and the.
Aldridge's season-high 39 lead Spur past Thunder 121-112
"Lamarcus Aldridge had one of his most efficient nights ever hitting nineteen of twenty three field goals for a game high thirty nine points and San Antone you snap a two game skid with a one twenty one one twelve victory over Oklahoma City Thursday night Aldridge would struggle to find a rhythm this season said he knew his shot to eventually start falling distrust in a moment you know from a deadly nor for the work and so there's just no way for much hard to come by the first of the two that you know most times they were chante Murray just missed a triple double with seventeen points ten assists and eight rebounds for the spurs the thunder got twenty seven points from the middle of Gallinari and Shea Gil just Alexander added twenty one what floor is San Antonio

"Field career thirty eight percents. You different three point range. This do could do it. All right now, we can look at a wild Linnet. And we see what we're seeing from him. And especially I got news for y'all is greatest Kawai Linnet is and he is great. Make no mistake about it. I understand why messiah Jerry took his chance because we thought damore Derosier and lamarcus Aldridge and those boys. San Antonio go down in the first round game seven against ever on Saturday night. And by the way, just as an aside. Let me say this about lamarcus Aldridge major respect for his talent class guy came out and post game fessed up acknowledged he made a mistake. All true, but it still inexcusable lamarcus Aldridge has been in the league entirely too long to not know to out immediately. You're down four points. It's less than twenty four seconds left. What the hell you mean? You didn't hear great Popovich telling you to go foul guy. Why did you need to? To what is doing standing out there taking sightsee unless it's four your. So let's twenty four seconds left in the game. You Dow four they got the ball who the hell of not. It's game seven of a playoff. How can lamarcus Aldridge? Make that mistake, you gotta know better than that, bro. Respect for your skills. Moore respectfully, your skills and classy as well and credit to him for fessing up in acknowledging that he made a mistake in a post game news conference, albeit he expressed himself very matter of factly, nonchalantly. But nevertheless, here's my thing. How do you make that mistake? You'll lamarcus freaking Aldridge you played for years in Portland, you're better than the league over twelve years. How do you not know in a game seven Dow four were less than twenty four seconds left to foul immediately. How do you not know that? So what you didn't hear great Popovich? You knew the clock was wanted down. You knew you down for you ain't J. Aw. But I digress. Only say that point to say this. As I sit here. And get back to Golden State of what we're seeing from. Kevin durant? Look Steph Curry's been foul trouble. We know Steph curry explodes, it affects Golden State Warriors. Like nothing else, we recognized that we understand it Steph. Curry is the star. But we have never confused Corey star with the Golden State Warriors as him being the best player on the squad. When since Kevin Durant has gotten there. Kevin Durant is on another level. And then we get to this issue involving the fouls because James harden, obviously launched a three and did they get called for it? In his favor near the end of the game. And after the game James harden has some words for the official. I don't know if we have that sound when he's talking about how the game is being officiated. But if we have that let me know. James harden, non or twenty eight from the field. That's thirty two percent shooting four of sixteen fifty point range. That's twenty five percents shooting. Hit thirteen of his fourteen free throws finish the game with thirty five points. But it was a somewhat unimpressive. Thirty five point performance on a partner James harden. And obviously he didn't get a call at the end of the game. So that affected him as well. Listen to what James harden had to say in the aftermath of the one oh four one hundred game one loss to the Golden State Warriors. We're gonna do about it. I was told her saying. It's probably a couple more. I just want a chance man caught a game. I was supposed to be called. And that's it and I'll live with the results. But especially we all know what happened, you know, few years back with like that can change the entire series. Just call it a game. How was supposed to be called?.

Because when he was in Portland. He was fantastic. He is not good. Then he caught them the game last night. They won the game. But had they lost Absolon. You it would have been a lamarcus August. And the only reason it's not as because they won the game. I'm still going to crush them. Even though they want DC's libertas show with this two guys on ESPN radio. Oh. What the hell? There. It is okay. On the day of the NBA draft truck solid NFL draft truck solitaire, oh has fired off a Salvator Pedo. He is the person at the bottom of this particular. Drew Loppy not the show ESPN entire jalopy is being run by him sending way too many emails and the latest one he has sent so that everyone can feed on content. I believed to be perhaps the worst thing he's ever scent. His just sent out should the field. Collectively be favored over the warriors to win the championship now. And then the story the story is. Snell. Ings colon buy or sell a non warriors team is going to win the NBA title. And when you asked as I did smelling. Yeah. It's Andre smelling road something for ESPN dot com. And what he's writing is something that has been a PTI topic for twelve years by yourself. On a not on the field. Right. So he stole it from them. I like this smelling guy. I mean, who is he? And I mean those as no offence. I just I saw that didn't recognize the name by. So. Roy. Melton. The field. You guys are buying the field at a clippers won last night. That It was was like. like. Oh concerned. That's all it took who how do the clippers won the road game facing elimination against the bow. Steam, the Embi a it's the rare time I've gone to bed with the team losing that. I thought was going to win and woke up and they lost gamma. Put it on the poll at lebatardshow did the warriors lose last night because news broke that. Kevin Durant is selling his house. It's happening. Broke. There was a story. I miss that. Kevin Durant selling his how pictures online if you want to he hasn't done. Well, disguising this. How much the asking thirteen point? Right. Never mind. Yeah. He made a million on it last year. We bought it for twelve. I'm all over this, great views of the ocean. He has one of those things one of those walls that I've always fancied having. But I don't think that I ever will because it seems super expensive where it's sliding doors at basically opened up, and you have an entire open wall closes all the way. But if it opens all the way, you'd have like an entire open while now on the beach. That's they don't into explain it to. Okay. Well for those of you who aren't in. It seems like a great idea but impractical down here in Miami. Because it gets so hot that if you were to open that up, right? Your entire house would get super muggy and full of mosquitoes where you wouldn't actually want it. I don't think. Santa problem the bay area. Yeah. What other information? Do you have for us on the selling of Kevin Durant's home because God's an I were laughing looking at this box score from the two thousand eleven finals when what Westbrook did this and a game..

"Even though they've been talking about the last dance for Dwayne Wade. It's been publicized. We haven't treated it that way, you're right in the media and the fans, but also I think the way these players have handled it has made it a different feeling than what Kobe did, you know? And to that end when you talk about the way, the players have handled it sort of speaks to who these guys are, right? I mean, Dwayne Wade and Dirk Nowitzki or synonymous with the cities that they're playing in at this point, and they're sort of synonymous with the sort of it's it's just different for whatever reason. Neither of them have have ever come across as let's say fame, thirsty as some in the past half. So, you know, in in some way. As that's part of what makes them special in some ways. That's also part of what makes it harder to to. Appreciate it in the moment. I don't know that the the right way. But I just know that in this in this moment right now feels like there should be so much more reverence across the sports world for what tonight means for both of these guys to likely be playing their last game at home. Yeah. I mean, I think what what we said about Duane how clear it's been does it rate that point that they're they're maybe should have been a little bit more attention paid to these last moments of his career, lamarcus Aldridge as of an hour or so ago was still saying that he thinks Dirks coming back. So to knows right. You know, he said he hasn't talked to him. He just thinks he's so competitive he loves it so much you might come back. So we might be making this big deal, and he might change his mind. Right. And we know that while there's plenty of tributes going on a lot of guys don't want the attention Novitsky has not really seemed like he wanted it to be this big hurrah. And maybe that's because he's not entirely sure of his decision. Wouldn't that be interesting? Well, and let's be honest. I mean, not only has the development of Luca Donncha, Ben key. But they also traded for Kristaps Porzingis who's gonna come back. So, you know, there's a there's gotta be a little tiny inkling of a flame inside a Virk sane. You know, what I could come back and hang out with Chris tops and Luga. Thanks, go. Get pretty good. I mean, I wouldn't blame that logic, especially as you sort of step away from the season in his instance, and you sort of get away from it as your body recharges, and you get away from the grind looking at what the Mavs could be for the future. It's going to be pretty darn enticing..

"Now is there a huge surprise waiting to happen? We'll get that answer and AB wants out the Steelers want to make sure he doesn't back to bite them who's really in control here as we approach today. This trae can be made we've got you covered and time to get starting right now and the house run. On Monday morning. Thank you so much for starting your week with us. We are delighted with jam packed with Chechen Jalen and Maria Jade will and Mark to share is looking tan. It wasn't a three piece. Employees into that. And there's a little bit of weird buzz in the air because odyssey last night was very special night. Vinick won a game at home. Sure. The Knicks taken on this. I my favorite highlight of the year is coming up right off the bat. Oh, okay. First quarter one minute into this game. Lamarcus Aldridge misses the jumper Dennis Mitchell and Kevin Knox combined to knock it in. Not pictured is Britain. Forbes who gets credit for the bucket and pensive rebound for say Antonio, David fizzed ill, your thoughts, you have to surrender basically just surrender to all of the crazy stuff possibly habit us in the game. They make of new stuff every time these Hindus. And so I just had to laugh, you know, at some point you just out resisted, and you just laugh, so I guess at some point Jalen all you can do lap. Gordon house Burs down eight this is not so funny. Trying to get back in it. Lamarcus Aldridge turns it over here goes Dennis Smith junior. He went scored nineteen. The Knicks are gonna win porzingas won't be a terrific player. However, Dennis doing your show on the Knicks while adding him with a great pickup. He's going to be there guard if you look at that that's one of his thirteen assists on the night throwing it up for Mitchell Levinson. The Knicks win your thoughts. You say that we were prophetic on defense Lord. So would you like me to do you like me to slit my throat, or what was pathetic play softball or something like that? And get more specific about. No, I'm not coaching clinic. Jay wheelbarrows. The Knicks won all four quarters last time that ever happened two thousand eleven. They snap their eighteen game home losing streak, which was tied for the fourth longest in North American major sports history. Meanwhile, this was really big news last night in case, you were wondering just how big it was the news travel all the way across the country Hollywood last night, give listen. First of all, spike. So glad you're sitting down after eighteen to second home losses. The Knicks won tonight. I repeat. Knicks won tonight, the feelings San Antonio won thirty two one eighteen. I'm trying to say we're gonna tank. Not happy. Lot better Spike Lee won his first ever Oscar last night gradulate despite a friend of the show he won..

"Deep eighty four the line. Obviously amazing numbers has ever since. Jimmy, Butler got traded killing it. Got him in. I do I did too. He was going to be a closely for me. And then he had a huge game last. Okay. Super recency Burris. It's like, I'm watching it. Like, wow, he is balling, close the dock goodnight. Killing it. I actually do think he'll he'll get selected. Those those numbers are just too impressive. And so really. Yeah. That comes down. So that's we all agree on six guys. There comes down to the seven spot. I had three guys in the mix. I really am torn on who to pick. And I know there's a ton of snuggie name too. But Tobias Harris I have on my shortlist. Lamarcus Aldridge, I have on my shortlist and Klay Thompson. I have my shortlist. No derozen you had to rose and couple of weeks. I did. And he he's the exact opposite of Donovan Mitchell. He was on fire at the start of the season. He has been in the tank for the last couple of weeks here bad timing for Droese not to be able to hit a shot. It's bad. Like it's like he's like down to sixteen seventeen points per game. Wasn't last two months. I think it wasn't even on the coal for the last shot. I don't have them. You're right. I was very high early. And that's I mean, should the Spurs have agai should the clippers have a guy. You know, is that why you take clay out of the mix because they've already got a couple like what do you do here? It's a tough. It's. Tough stuff who do you who do you pick? I went back to clay. You went to. Okay. I think I know we've talked about he's a lot this having down dance as in percentage wise, but overall still brilliant, and he has those incredible mom's like he did this week when he hit the ten threes. I think it was and he's just he still incredible to what the warriors do. And so I had auditor water in for that twenty two points per game. Yeah. Forty six from the floor thirty eight from three it's getting up it'll end up over forty. I'm sure to okay Klay. Okay. That's his got clay as well. I had Aldridge, but you guys have convinced me I was like I'm gonna sleep on Phelan in the morning. You guys are making a good case. It'll be a lot more fun to have Klay Thompson and the all star game than lamarcus Aldridge steady. Lamarcus is good. He's very very he's been there. Six times. That's good. He's Joe Johnson. Like that. I'm not one of these guys on the Spurs or or the clip do is hair. Seventy great year. I mean, he's he's numbers are better than lamarcus Aldridge in terms of just straight up your points in rebounding, not rebounding, but close points what I'm getting at scores. More than lamarcus Aldridge. Yeah. I think he's just a little twenty one points per game for Tobias twenty point six for Aldridge. The rebounds Aldridge a little bit. I mean, I I know Cooper's right there. Yeah. They would earlier on in the season. I think they sorta surprised a little bit. And then was like these guys definitely owned, but they have regressed a little back to back to closer to what you expect. It doesn't scream all star. Lamarcus olders has never spend all star. But he does get in. Yeah. I know. That's why I picked clay. I think. He's just he's one of the best in very important skill one of the top two guys or whatever. And yeah, he's having technically off the year at thirty percent. But he's he's picking it up Tobias team has fallen off. They had their their eighth in the west. And I don't think they're making the play offs. Lebron's gonna come back, and they're gonna get bounce most likely in in a couple of days. So yeah, you got to have to have. I don't know. He's like towns is also in that category. You know, his team is five hundred not in the postseason. So you can definitely make that argument to say the towns isn't good enough. But you watch towns you watch Tobias Harris downs is a better ballplayer. And so there's yeah, there's there's an anti antibi- here is that a better season. So far than all of these guys. He has he has. But you're making five cases he doesn't scream all star is the problem. I don't think the coaches that is as well..

"It's your job for the next year and a half to be an assistant coach and make Jaren is as good as you possibly can be. I to me, I guess if I were them even though Conley's significantly better player than Gasol. I would be more motivated to move Conley van Gosol based on how much I think they could get back, and then how much I think that they might be able to help differentiate is in other ways the single funniest into that what they should do is trade calmly and then use that cap space. Take on bad deals, and this is something that that Moore has hammered over and over again like the play for some of these small market teams is to use keys to open up cap space, and then take on bad contracts and try to stockpile as many picks as possible. And I think that should be the blueprint for the next two or three years at Memphis and sorta like see how many assets you can you can accumulate and then and then just go to draft and try to build a team that will be able to compete in two thousand twenty one and two thousand twenty two and I think clearing the calmly space will give them enough room to do that. And take on like, the part, the Jabari Parker of the world or whatever. Yeah. No question about it. Now, the my final Gosol thought, though is that the single funniest Casale trade idea is also like fairly plausible. What if what if he gets traded for his brother again, what if it's Marcus all to senatorial for Pao Casale filler, and you basically undo the huge blockbuster that you know, made everyone so. Mad at the grizzlies back in in the Lakers days with with Powell go into LA. And now you've got demar derozen. Lamarcus Aldridge and Marcus all as your core of just you know, we're going to try to grind you up in mid Rangers. And yes, slow you down festively like it's not crazy as it. Well, I support that idea because I don't know what the hell the Spurs do, but they're able to extend guys careers about three or four years longer than anyone would have ever expected. And I think we're seeing pal hit the end of that line. And so he's kind of like he's got one foot in the grave, basketball wise, but it would be also dec- CNN Tonio exhume Marcus, Saul bring him back to life for a couple of years because like the good version of Marcus oil is really really fun to watch Powell was done when he got to San Antonio. And if somehow he's still playing. Yeah. Well, he had kind of like a year or two there where he looked. Okay. I still have no idea why they paid him when he hit free agency of leave that was the summer before this one. But wasn't wasn't a great idea at the time. It hasn't worked out. But yes, walk him for Mark bring him in. And I have no idea how the hell the Spurs continue to win. So let's just like continue to suspend disbelief and watch them try to pull it off. I think if I could have any dream trades. It would be Marcus oil to the Spurs. Mike Conley to the jazz. Keep all the grit and grind in-house with the winning franchises that play the right way, and writes funny stories, do you think New Orleans is desperate enough to get in on either of these guys because like are they with shades of light the two thousand eighteen Cavaliers where it's like we have to like put together a win around the Bron. This is our last chance we've got to do it. And you look at the he's injured right now, they've still said they're not. Gonna trade him. He hasn't asked for trade. Don't you pretty much have to go for broke this season for the pelicans? And like show him that you're not just a franchise that led boogie out the door that you are serious about trying to build a winner around him. Like, could you see a scenario where they make a deal for Conley? And now they're backward. Conley. And drew in their cores commonly drew Davis..
