"And go like junior we get to Sam Donaldson and what he was this offseason. He was that awkward conversation of Should the Jets stick with him. They seem to Namur was Zach Wilson. Timeline wise, resetting the clock that made a lot of sense. You can't have it muddied in the room. You couldn't have those two young quarterbacks in the same room and expect this to be the start for Robert Salad in the staff today, and Golic Jr weekdays at four Eastern on ESPN radio and now watch exclusively on ESPN, Plus That's what with my goals. Get in there and take care of business question. Time's up in my head every day. How great can I be? You know, I'm a cherish every moment. Put your mind to it. You can do it. Just keep pushing ship your chip, right? Bad joke area. What a throw. They were funny people that I doubted me. Tomorrow, Chase Hansen for a touchdown performance by the Heisman Trophy winner down Zach Wilson. I'm not giving everything I have in place as long as I can. Sometimes the bill tells you a little bit of everything. It's amazing. Zach Wilson grew up a hardcore fan of the Utah Runnin Utes. How much of a fan His family had tickets right next to head coach Kyle Winningham on the 50 yard line. Instead, he ends up dead BYU, Utah's arch rival, because the youth had their quarterback turned out well for the coup's. Will it turn out well for the Jets. I think you know where I'm going. Let's have a little fun here right before the break I mentioned you know 2018 was a crazy year. Quarterbacks because he had Baker Mayfield go number one overall. And then with the final pick of the first round, Lamar Jackson comes in at 32. So you have five cubes picked book ending with those two guys in the top three in the middle. This year, Guys like Mike 10 inbound was joining us here for the first hour of the old NFL GM America's GM. He's got five in the first eight. Think about that for a second five in the 1st 32 18 5 in the first eight. Mike has this year. So on that note, Let's play a little game called Better, Worse, or same essentially, will just stack up the five guys in 18 and match them up with the five guys in 2021. We'll see what the guys think. Better. Same. Or worse situation. Let's have a little fun. Okay, As you know, in 2018, the run on quarterbacks began with Baker Mayfield. He was the first of five. Selected at number one overall. Obviously, Mike and everyone else has Trevor Laurence Going number one overall to the JAG XKE. Let's start with you then with Mike Better, worse or same The situation Baker to the Browns. And Trevor to the Jags. Better, same or worse, you get said. I think it's the same situation. If you think about the Jacksonville Jaguars hadn't really had a quarterback stabilizing organization. In a very, very long time. I would go all the way back to Marc Brunel when they had him underneath the center as a quarterback of the future for the Jaguars. I know they drafted guys along the way with those guys that they drafted the Blaine Gabbert of the world the borders of the world. They didn't work out, but you look at the Cleveland Browns. I think this same thing for them. They hadn't had a quarterback to stabilize that organization. They got one in Baker Mayfield now so to me, it's the same. Yeah, he actually different. I think it's a better situation for Trevor Laurence. You've got a great offensive mind in Urban Meyer. He was successful at Bowling Green. Utah, Florida, Ohio State. We got a young dynamic player. I like a lot of discussion. All I think defensively they got a couple pressure players in the front seven like Josh Alan, So I think this is a team that could turn around much quicker than what Was going on in Cleveland the time so I think Charles Lawrence is going to a good situation. So it's better than Baker Mayfield. In my opinion, let discussion all one of the greatest receivers impacto of history Key know anybody else that bold out at the receiver position in the pact? No, not if you want to go to the Vietnam Just look at my face. What should not was really good. I got it. I got to amend it. Keep playing, But it was a Pac 10. So technically, I guess we can both be right. Colorado is nowhere to be found. No, that's for sure. They're in the big 12 back in. Those days for sure. Okay. So the second quarterback taken off the board member Sam Donaldson, third overall pick by the Jets, but he was the second quarterback off the board in 2018, according to Mike's Mark, and practically everybody else that does this for a living. Guess what? It's the Jets again and they're going to go with Zach Wilson. Better, same or worse Key Sam with the Jets. Zack with the Jets. You know, I went back and forward on this and and and I'm gonna probably have to say it's probably better with Zach with the Jets right now, because I think when you look at the new head coach, new new head coach coming in. Joe Douglas understands the situation and Sam went through when he was drafted. They kind of put the team on Sam's back without surrounding him with any players at all. I think they bring Zach along a little Florida kind of take the farm there from Rex Ryan, along with my talent bomb, what they did with marks. Sanchez, run the football, play powerful defense and allow them to make a handful of throws and keep him in games. That's why I think it's a better situation, and Sam had He completely agree. I think it's better and for similar reasons, Michael Floor I'm talking to you. Joe Burrow through the ball 450 times last year in 10 games He bows early, just like he said..

"Not no disrespect events, but I think that those are two totally separate situation. You really? Yes. Do you really How so? Because I think after the why, I mean, a lot of you could say that the he was Jeff fissured or there was a lot of mental is going on. This is separate. You know, Lamar had success if he was found out or if it was just an off year for the entire team. I'm well, see what happened. I mean, that's the storyline that I'm looking forward to to see how Lamar Jackson Bounces back if the Ravens don't think the Ravens have been the same since they lost in that playoff game two years ago, when they were expected to go to the Super Bowl, and it ended up being Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs going I think I'm not sure they recovered from that. But I say is he gonna be like Vince Young? Because He was really, really good and dynamic last year, but he wasn't as dynamic is a year before. Does that make sense to you know, make sense. But not much of what you say Thanks very much, really a bad trait that did appreciate that vote. Vote of confidence in that you want to talk about a quarterback, or, you know, Joe Davin Clowney had a great day. Do you want to talk about someone who had a horrible day? Tell me about it, which one? Any quarterback who had a bad day, although there's two separate stories that Clements either story, All right, Have you heard the news about the Patriots? Trading trading up, Okay? Oh, yeah. Yes. And who would they pick? They would more than likely pick Ah, Ohio State, Justin feel Justin feels to wit Cam Newton would have a terrible day. I don't think so. Why not? Because I don't know if he's going there to start day one. Maybe Cam Still the guy cam got a nice check to stick around for a little bit longer. It got a nice check. But if you're doing that, if you're moving up and they're going to get Justin feels You know, on one of the top six places you're gonna you're more than likely gonna play em. You're gonna you're gonna be giving him so much money. Mr Organ of age is going to say we gotta play that guy. I'm not paying him to sit on the bench fellow. So that's what I just said. I mean, I would allow it. It's still expect Cam to be day one starter. But he's right there. If if camera verts toe how he finished the season, then you know you spent so much money in free agency in this offseason, which you never see. You never see the Patriots trade up for anybody. They never do it right now. Here they are. So you know it. Bella check might have fallen in love. Which is crazy to me. I just It's so foreign that all of that has happened. They're spending so much money. They are right now. Okay, well, but right now, who would you start? If you were the Patriots? I would start Justin Fields right now. Really? Yes, I would day one day one. Okay. Start him in the NFL. I usually don't say that. No, you don't. He's gonna start day one because, however, launch is going to start day one. Oh, yeah. They will. Wow. Hot. Take hot take well, it's the same situation of the rookie quarterback. Rookie quarterback. Yeah, But do you have someone like with Cam Newton's pet? Like, resume on the Jaguars right now? Four Should do, Don't you on the Jaguars? Of course you do. Ugo. Yeah, You too. You're Googling. I'm Googling gonna get the roster real quick. Yeah. No, you you Yes, said you Do Gardner Menchu. Okay, Gardener, man, Come on, CJ Beth third. It's beat hard at his better, but I just the way he's played. He got he's been beat hard and no, I stand gardeners. Mustache. But come on, you can't say mensch. You has the same resume as a cam Newton. No, he doesn't. But with so, yes, and that's what they expect in Jacksonville toe have. That's what everybody was hoping for. You got the new coach You want like this stud with the hair to come in there and maybe lead your team to 45 victories. Next year's Ted with the hair? Yeah. I think the Patriots is a whole different ball that they have the luxury because not have Thing to do that. And Gardner has not been to a Super Bowl as Cam has been to Super Bowl right hand still just beat up to me. I don't know He's not the same camp. He says that he's not same camp to me. I hear you, but this is a year removed from him being in that system. He's had an office. You know a lot of time that oh, Get more acclimating. I'm kind of interested to seeing how he's going to play. But I would I would have bet you I would bet you a case of wine that Cam starts Day one. That is That's interesting because I'm not sure Bill Bella check is so enamored with Cam that he would go out and trade up. To get Justin feels well, then why give him that contract? I mean, just to have him there as a backup. There was better back ups around if they wanted to pay less for someone to have their That's the thing Easy, Easy, Keys, Quality backup quarterback and now your thoughts on Justin Fields have changed in the last like month. Have they know they have, but I guess I started After the season. I kept on in the back of my mind. I was a seat Justin Fields, and I think the wine asking story in asking story in Haskins and Justin Fields is not doing Haskins, Dwayne Haskins stolen Ask It's Dwayne Haskins failed miserably for the Washington football team. But I would. I was thought of them is equal in talent. But I think Justin feels is far superior from what he did for the Ohio State University with the touchdown passes and his running ability Okay? So.

"J Radio. Pro football is right around the corner, will ya Tonight? Let's get it and the Cleveland Browns what they do not the Cleveland Browns. This guy the guy once, Woz. Member of the Browns. Jadeveon Clowney Willie now is a member of the Cleveland Browns. Free agent Pashr Usher. Get this today, Being clowning is signed a one year deal with the Browns today the deal is worth up to $10 million Clowney will have an opportunity. To play opposite fellow former one pick Myles Garrett. Watch out, everybody. Cleveland is doing it, right. Cleveland is doing it, right. You know, they ended up last year, not doing it wrong. And they weren't the traditional Cleveland Brown weren't I would say maybe it was because Odell was kind of hurt. Oh, yeah. They had. They had to play like a team, and they didn't have they didn't say OK, it's you know, third long. No doubt, you know. I think Cleveland is putting it together. And you know the way they played last year in the way Mr Horn's down is playing Baker Mayfield. Yeah. This is a great pick up for you. I like to refer to him as Mr White Bengal Tiger Mayfield. Do you if you like to say horns down? I don't really like to say that. I know I don't like to say it either, but he does that. Clowney was with Tennessee last year, and I thought that was a good spot for him. But I just think this is a really good spot. And if I'm Myles Garrett, I'm going. I'm glad that dude's on the other side, so I'm not getting. I'm not getting double team because they got to do something about today. Being clowning remembered today being clan who used to play for Houston, Texas. Remember those days who with the what he played for the Houston Texans? Were they with one of their former players? JJ Watt, remember those good old days I You are really don't head. I don't know. I just tell you what. I just like this move by by the Cleveland Browns. I'm gonna go out there on a limb and add this to the You better keep an eye out for these teams. Washington, Washington With defense and now Cleveland is, Yeah, I like Washington's I mean, they got a lot of like the youth on their offensive side as well. We'll see what happens and shakes out with their quarterback quarterback. See, That's why I like the Browns much better. Then the Washington Mr White Bengal Tiger. I like Mr White Medical Tiger horns down Baker Mayfield from Lake Travis High School, But I just Yeah, I think Washington is still not there. In the NFC East and I goes, That's my bias for the Dallas Cowboys, Of course, but without a quarterback without a quarterback to me, Washington will not be competitive. Their defense is going to keep him in. But they will not be in the upper echelons, saying that they won the playoff, but Kyle Allen Ryan Fitzpatrick, Your man Taylor Hannity. Hannity Hannity. Steve Montana's a legendary state montage from Colorado. But Colin and Ryan Fitzpatrick will lead the way. And are they good enough to lead a team to a division title? It's the NFC least. But not with Dak Dak Prescott back. It's not the end of Mr Mr One and four before you got hurt. Well, it was a tough one and four beat. Oh, he was wrong. His way he was on his way. Yeah, I just That is. Well, here I am. I'm the bias again. I just think That Doc Prescott is still the creme of the crop in quarterbacks in the NFC East. And I'm still with my Polly. I guess Polly Anna Outlook about the Cowboys next year is gonna be their yearbook next year will be the any good homer that's rooting for his team isn't any year. Your year like this is the year. I don't want to root against the Cowboys. I'd love for them to succeed again. But you got to show me I'm tired. You know the same with a couple of local teams like I want to see to believe. Well, the Browns you're in one of the most difficult divisions. Belief with with Baltimore with Pittsburgh. It's a difficult It's a difficult division there in but they are doing it short Black. Remember that Kevin Costner movie? Remember that movie made about the Browns and draft day when they were doing all the right things? I think the Browns you're doing all the right things. Improve both sides of the ball. Unlike the Cowboys, who continue to, you know, load up, load up, load up on the offensive side and not take care of the defense. But at the A F. C north to me with the Ravens, like the team still Mingles with Joe at quarterback up incoming Browns and then the Steelers. I think you've got a talent, Joe. Let's see how his injury plays out, and he comes back from that, but that still I want to see what they do around him. I think there's other teams in that division that are more ready to succeed, as especially Hillsborough. Yeah, especially, you're adding more firepower to that Brown's defense. But right now, I would select the Browns to win the A F C North. I'll say it right now. The Browns will win the AM not gonna hate you for that. You will not be the Baltimore Ravens. Even though I love I love the Ravens and I love what they've done over the years. I think the Browns you're gonna win that division. But I'm interested to see what the Ravens do to bounce back. You know, banded. Like what? 30 seconds in the league and passing last year. They still have Lamar Jackson is Lamar Jackson. Now in the Vin Chung territory. Oh, come on. Well, I'm saying about being found out. He still the dynamic quarterback, but But But I.

"The mystery guest of all whose name we really talked about. Trade lance of north dakota state. Now mitch mitchell talking about before we started about the was two thousand and eighteen draft okay and if you look at where josh allen went he in in many ways he's he's having kind of a better career than baker mayfield who went number one they year okay and he came from out there and trae lance the kid from marshall. Minnesota is become an intriguing prospect for chains. That also need a quarterback this year well fits. It's the physical attributes and sixty four. Yay six yeah. You know and and it's not you know not to go to state isn't a power five school. God knows but it is a football school and and you know it. So and their world. Now he fits the checks off boxes. Let's put it that way. I just kind of go just to amplify just quickly. Mitch was saying please to the break. What number draft was an draft with pat mahomes. Patrick excuse me seven. Here's here's something that Espn one of their scouts. Matt miller said trae is probably the hardest evaluation. I've had to do an eleven year. Seventeen starts as a very small picture to get complete idea of who a player is and it's not only seventeen but seventeen against f c s competent person. But in those games i've never seen a player so dominant. If you trust the tape. He should be the number two quarterback taken in the draft behind lars. That's that's that's what kind of an amazing quote right. Yeah patrick mahomes. By the way. Tenth pick fell. Kansas city traded up to take him and number two pick that year. Mitchell trubisky bears all. You need it's backing up josh. Allen didn't the bills pickup trubisky tobacco. I think they might have. Yeah well so what all this week but we already three of us know. This people should know this drafts. You know the like the famous line about samuel johnson and second marriages draft is the triumph of hope over experience. And it's never going to change. This is a fascinating group. Though right this is this is as fascinating. A group of prospects as we've had since the mayfield sam darnold there. There's another guy sam darnold. Where's he played or not in new york. 'cause they fell in love with they they. They fell in love with somebody else. And now he's on his way to to carolina and all the way down to a guy last. Pick the last pick of that draft in the first round. Who was lamar lamar jackson. Two thousand eighteen draft folks just to you know what referencing care this this should be. This should be tacked up on every bulletin board if every nfl draft room before they run out and make these selections because it is an exercise in right and wrong number one pick baker mayfield number two pick by the way saquon barkley. That's another discussion for another day. Number three number number three. Sam darnold as you point out number. Seven josh allen buffalo who you could argue is the best quarterback of this draft at least so far where we are in a square number. Ten josh rosen arizona which was a precursor to arizona then taking color murray the following year. That's how effective number. Ten josh rosen was and then you drop down to the next quarterback taken at the last pick of the first round lamar jackson by the baltimore ravens. Who is the only one of those who has an mvp award. Correct maria right okay. Thirty second pick only one with. Mvp board that this is all you need. This was three years ago. This wasn't one hundred years ago. Well we didn't have tape. We didn't have film we didn't have. You've got everything you had in two thousand eighteen. You got it at your disposal now. Two thousand and twenty one. I promise you when we do the sports reporters podcast in twenty twenty four. We'll be looking back on the two thousand twenty one draft at some of these quarterbacks because there's just too many of them for all of them to succeed and the circumstances are going to be different for all them and we'll be looking back at mitch. I had to look up where he is. You know he is. Now he's in. San francisco is in francisco. Is the backup to whoever gets drafted. I think he's a backup. I think he might be backup to backup. Garoppolo is going to be a mentor to whoever they pick with number three and you know what. And here's the thing even in miami even in miami there is chatter about whether they stick with to a or are already thinking. Get imagine this about a replacement for him and so it's yes to to say that it's not an exact science. It's insulting exact sciences okay. Because because it's it's it is it is mitch. it is it is a. It's not just blackjack it's a crap. Shoot it's roulette okay. It's quarterback roulette and they play it and and they believe that this is the one. Okay you hear basketball coaches all the time. Say about the best player they ever coach. You always hope that somebody like that will come walking into your gym. Okay and these guys they. They're not gonna take trevor lawrence because they think he's going to be a bust out the jets aren't gonna take zack wilson. Because they think he's going to be a bust out same with justin field same with trae lance on and on and on it is but it's why we're talking about is an endless fascination the search for the perfect quarterback mike. What would your great friend. William goldman say. Nobody knows anything. Nobody knows anything. Nothing right and by the way. And all these mock drafts. I keep seeing a repeated theme and that is that my detroit. Lions with the seventh pick are going to trade that pick to some team. That's going to take a quarterback in in a sports illustrated one. That's on right now. They've got the patriots trading with the lions for number seven and the patriots. Taking mack jones with that. Pick with lawrence wilson field. Having gone to top three now whoever wrote this might have forgotten the fact that we no longer have bob quinn and tricia. We're no longer the new england patriots midwest so we have no obligation to make our trades with new england. Which is what we did for years. Basically we got a new coach and a new general manager. And i'm not sure whether they wanna give that pick away or not. But there's a lot of mock drafts that have the number seven pick being traded because the lions are not going to take a quarterback And and that could be a very interesting switch around because a lot of teams could trade up for that fourth. Whoever that fourth of these guys is going to be Because you know. The first three. Are going to be quarterbacks. And there are five jones and lance lawrence wilson and fields. Those are the five that some people are..
Fresh update on "lamar jackson" discussed on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed
"Baker mayfield was expected to start negotiating long term contract extension after only out playing his rookie deal. However they're currently hasn't been any progress made on that front between the former number one overall. Pick cleveland sporting to the athletic. The browns could have concerns about entering into an expensive long term extension with mayfield but picking up the fifth year option. Looks like a formality team. Mate mayfield over the next year or longer. If a palatable extension remained allusive that was hard to say for me. Okay shannon will. The brown signed baker long-term. There should be no rush because baker mayfield isn't a guy that's janney read that he's outperformed but no he hasn't paid just pick up the fifth option evaluating this year. Patrick mahomes outperform. Rookie contract dishonor watson outperformed his rookie contract. Let's just take the guys that he got drafted with. He's in the same draft. Class is lamar jackson and josh allen. Up in buffalo of those three baker mayfield is not the best. He's not one guy's going to the playoffs. Three times lamar. Jackson has gone to the playoffs all three years. He's been in baltimore. Josh allen the last two years lamar has thirty wins seven losses baker mayfield has twenty three with twenty two lows. So lamar has several more wins with fifteen losses. Josh allen has five more wins with several pure losses now. Baker has more passing yards. But lamar is more than just passing. Lamar had seven thousand passing yards. But he probably has another twenty. Three thousand yards rushing. So he's a combination josh allen. I don't think anybody thinks that. Baker mayfield is better than josh allen or lamar jackson so for me and what. We've seen what scared people is that when the rams did what they did with golf and what the eagles damn what they did with went and neither one of those guys are currently on the team that gave them that money. So i think that scared. It's like you know what we're gonna wait. We don't really need to do this with two years or two years out. Let's go to that poor here. Let's see how he performed because skilled you see where it is now. ford amelia. That gives got forty so you know the next contract. you'll be forty one forty. Two dad got one for twenty six guarantee next country going to one thirty one thirty five one forty guarantee so the browns they. Now we not in a rush. We go see this thing through one more year. We'll pick up that the auction in there. We'll go from there. So what did the hall of fame shannon sharpe repeatedly beat on the intel me. Why didn't jerry jones side dak way should have. He waited too long and look what it cost him. The debts all our for me for like two years but the problem was is that you had a fourth year and a fifth year option. That had no option because he wasn't a first round pick so you couldn't put an entrepreneur saying pay me nail. Pay me later. I had to pay through the nose later right right. So why wouldn't you go ahead and try to work a deal right now. That would be more palatable long-term with baker than if you wait and do the fifth year option and let him play it out. No no no. I'm not gonna skip out. I'm going to do it out. The i'm just going to pick up the fifth year option. Formality he's not gonna play on the fifth year. He's not gonna play on that contract. He this is his fourth year so he plays this year so he'll be going toys. Fifth year option. Yeah yeah we'll do something after this year. Okay but you told me sooner than later because the thing is he's still have the thing. The contract would actually kick in two twenty twenty three the he'll be playing on the field the austin even though he has the head the long-term security forward so going into baker's draft. I told you. Baker will be the best quarterback in that draft. You said sam darnold would be and we locked horns on that run in and it was shocked everybody. That cleveland took baker. I as most people had maybe inked in sam darnold go at least higher run baker mayfield seemed to be the third quarterback. Whatever i'm going to dig in on this one and i'm gonna say long-term baker will prove to be the best quarterback in that draft better than josh in a little better than lamar jackson. The problem that baker had was he did too many commercials too early. He gained a little too much weight too early too full of himself too early. And he had a clown show of head coaches year for two long years. He had three head coaches and three different coordinators and just for his first two years the national football league as you. Well know that is hard to overcome. Because it's one thing after another and just when you think you're comfortable with this scheme all of a sudden the whole direction changes the franchise and you're never sure from day to day who's in charge. Who's gonna be fired tomorrow. And all sun they hit on somebody they got kevin stefanski to come in and to really be both he's the head coach and he's the coordinator. Alex van pelt the quarterback rich. But again stansky is in charge and he finally brought baker some trustable structure last year. And it started to take off. And i told you dell was not a great fit with baker baker is he idolizes odell. He's socialized. nah. I don't know the case. I think the thing you is that oda needs to go somewhere with a quarterback is bigger than he okay. That's fine too. Whatever but i watched baker game after game. Try to get the ball to odell. His i read in. His head was odell even if were primarily because i gotta get gotta get him ball to his detriment where you get so odell. Centric the start to neglect the other weapons. You have. Like a shark higgins who he loves to throw to open. He's gonna get singled every play because jarvis and odell right so once odell. I'm knocking on wood. Form a hope. He comes backzelina like to talk. He got hurt. It was what week against cincinnati and also they took off and he went eight and three down the stretch but more importantly through one thousand nine touchdowns only two interceptions nineteen to tools. I want to know what road in. Nick chubb and kareem hunt and obviously they got talent so you get a guy one hundred and thirty five hundred forty million guaranteed with you. Tell me. I'm going to turn the argument around on you now. You told me day after day after day. It's price to doing business in the national prize. Now that's what you told me you said dak prescott costs this. Because that's what it cost to have a franchise quarterback back is not going to be turning around hand. The ball three hundred plus time running backs. Either willie should be. Because he's got the highest paid running back and bro football. The highest paid quarterback early. Yes we do. And how did that happen. Jerry got back into a corner and again dak. He was lucky not to start off. Oh and four last year every break so to speak even though he got hurt and was career. I got it but but after that they finished ten so it was like andy dalton took over. It wasn't like suddenly you believe anthony. New she what. You can't play the whole season. you'll believe they don't wanna vision. No i didn't say that they wouldn't want to division. I don't think so not the way they got off. What is it trending. Do they not steal the atlanta games. Yeah okay well. If they had they own four would go in his day. Do okay well. They were down seventeen to three while dax was still upright again and they came back but then it took too late bombs from andy dalton to say today in that game right okay and andy dalton had his moments remember he got concussed and then he got cove it it all broke right for all of a sudden dak became credibly sympathetic figure and jerry was up against because jerry's talking about his mortality and he's starting to think up and try to draft as quarterbacks and just start over and not know for sure..
Dallas Cowboys Reach Multi-Year Deal With Star Quarterback Dak Prescott
"Salary cabin number for two thousand and twenty one is going to be twenty two point two million dollars all right now. Head dak prescott. In franchise tag again this will happen in a procedural sense but had to cow tried to go at this with dak prescott on the franchise tag for the two thousand and twenty one season. We've talked about this a number of times. That value would have been thirty. Seven point seven million dollars so the fact that the cow is now have him onto the books. We're talking about the value that is on the books in the books. However you want to look at the books whether they're e books or physical books whatever the case may be that value is now twenty two point two million dollars now. I know that we have all said some things about the dallas cowboys but they are not complete dummies. They surely budgeted for the franchise tag value. Because let's be honest. They came about twenty four hours. We think you know. Close to having the actually placed the franchise tag and maybe carried out with that prescott. So the cowboys have room for the franchise tag at the very least so you look at that quake matt that adam schefter was kind enough to do for you. That is fifteen point. Five million dollars that the dallas cowboys suddenly have because they've got this long term deal with that prescott. This is something that we've been saying for two years now. If you do this you can. You can kick this down the road. You can prorate it you can extended you can whatever term you want to put on it. You can spread the impact of the deal out of the signing bonus of the overall guaranteed money out over the lives of the contract so it doesn't hit you all at once. That's the one killer about the franchise tag is that it is fully and completely guaranteed in franchise tag is a one year deal so the value of it last year and dak prescott was on the tag for thirty one point. Four million dollars. The two thousand twenty dallas cowboys had to absorb that value all at once and they would have had to have done it again. Here in two thousand and twenty one but because they have adjusted that they now have fifteen and a half million dollars that they were seemingly budgeting for dak prescott that now they can apply to different areas. Maybe it is a safety. Maybe it's a defensive end. Maybe it's a defensive tackle. Maybe it's you know an offensive tackle. But they want swing tackled death whatever the case may be. We know that the cowboys obviously hold the tenth overall. Pick in the draft. They could go a number of different directions there. They wanna cornerback kayla farther patrick's retain do wanna take one of the tackles and rashawn slater as all this is. This is setting up and this is an important thing. I want you to hear me here and watch me here. You cannot waste this money. If dallas cowboys the whole point and getting this done with thac prescott besides obviously establishing having the best player on your team for the foreseeable future the point in doing this is to alleviate the salary cap space now. And i don't like the term when now if you watch us often you know that but you look state of the nfc east. It is by sudha. I mean the philadelphia. Eagles are a disaster. The new york giants doping daniel jones is legitimate. The washington football team has a great team but is void of the most important position of the game and a quarterback. Maybe they'd get somebody this cycle as we all expect quarterbacks to change teams at a higher rate than usual but the case in point is at the dallas cowboys are now. We're going to see this all day on tuesday by the way and we'll talk about it of course but they're going to be overwhelming favorites to win the nfc streit and you think about the conference that they plan is really a contender in the nfc. And i mean that with all due respect to the reigning champion tampa bay buccaneers. But you've got the bucks you've got the green bay packers and then who scares you. May maybe the rams you believe in matthew stafford but the point is thinking about the afc. I mean the. Afc has the bills and the ravens and the chiefs and the titans and the steelers and the browns. I mean you could go. A number of different ways. Did the colts have carson. Wentz ends up getting his act together and so the cowboys play in the weakest division in the weaker conference and so now they have this opportunity to really kind of take their future in the here and now they have fifteen and a half million dollars that they weren't necessarily planning on having use it and if they don't use it it is all for not so i mean we are all imploring the dallas cowboys to ultimately use this salary cap space. This is a very very very luxurious gift. That they now have been afforded that they didn't previously have so shattered of course to the dallas cowboys. Let's see here let's move. I'm i wanna talk of course about the bonus the dak prescott because well. It's stupid large. I mean it's amazing. Dak prescott has now the largest signing bonus in the nfl. You look at joe flacco. Once upon a time. Got forty million. Dollars matt ryan forty six and a half. Remember if you're on the fence about this value. We've talked about this before as well. Matt ryan became the first quarterback in nfl history to average over. He had thirty but to average at least thirty million dollars per year with his new contract that he signed with the atlanta falcons in two thousand and eighteen. That was three years ago. Dak prescott signed a four six year. Deal whatever you wanna call it. That was three years ago. They matt ryan signed that he was the first quarterback to hit the thirty million dollars a year. Mark prescott just hit forty but the reality and we've been saying this forever is that there are so many deals coming around the bend. Josh allens gotta get paid. Lamar jackson's gotta get paid. Baker mayfield's got to get paid extra calories. He's going to get paid the year after that. It's going to be time for joe burrow to finally get paid and when all of those players get paid this forty million dollars a year. Mark the dak prescott got this one hundred twenty six million dollar. Total guaranteed is sixty six million dollar signing bonus all these things that are currently the top of the nfl. The most in nfl history. That's the verbiage in determining that you're hearing associated with this and it's all literally true but it's all going to get pushed down because all of these players on this list. Joe flacco matt ryan matthew stafford at fifty million signing bonus. Aaron rodgers fifty. Seven and a half russell wilson not going to be a dallas cowboy now by the way sixty five million dollars. Dak prescott topped that all of these quarterbacks in all likelihood we'll top that that's the reality of the nfl things are always moving in one direction. It is up
Why 10 Super Bowl Appearances Won't Satisfy Tom Brady
"Hey thanks for joining me man. Good to be here. Seth wicker sham is a senior writer at espn and he's covered. Tom brady since his rookie year in the nfl. Words with you. Seth you are. Espn's resident. tom. Brady you've been covering brady for nearly twenty years. I believe at this point. You're the first person to report. That brady was looking for a way out of new england back when that was on thinkable and honestly kind of dangerous to suggest in the boston area. But your piece out. Today ahead of. Tom brady's tenth super bowl in tampa bay with the buccaneers. It actually begins a decade ago back in new england. What happened a couple years ago. I was in tom. Brady's house and we were in his living room and he was telling a funny story about bill belichick. It was a saturday morning meeting before a game against new york. Jets and bella. Check was watching film of mark sanchez. Running out of the pocket rolling to his right players it is heels and he had a wide open receiver about sixty yards downfield on the opposite hash. So that's an almost impossible. Throw to attempt. I mean few quarterbacks ever would try that throw even fewer would complete it and the way that brady told it to me. That ballot check was just watching the play unfold and he was like just throw it. He's wide open. Why isn't sanchez. Throwing the ball and brady's little thought bubble was hilarious because he was thinking. I would never even attempt that throw. Do you have any idea how i would look in. Tried to throw that ball. And meanwhile checks just like can't get even more open. He can't get more open. Just throw it in. The way that brady explained to me later was very interesting because he said i see each play within my limits at the time. I didn't really see the significance in that statement. But when you watch. Tom brady now aged forty three years old and the entire sporting world asking how. He's done it how he's been able to get another team to the super bowl. I looked back at that statement. And i found a lot of answers in it was brady frustrated with ballot check. Invalid check suggested as much. I wanna get deeper into. Brady's thought bubble there. I think he thought it was hilarious. He he saw it as a defensive coach who had no bearing on the reality of how difficulties throw that ball. He wasn't frustrated with ballot check. He was like a little amazed that bella check thought that that type of pass would be so easy i mean. That's that's a john elway throw. That's josh allen throw mahomes through. There's very few people who could ever even try that and here. Ballot check was talking about mark sanchez. Saying he's not going to get more open than that. Just throw the ball. As kind of an indictment on the quarterback where brady saw it as you know something that was hard to believe. Couldn't believe that that his coach thought that a throw like that with that easy. And when you look at tom brady look at the arc of his career. He's someone who's kind of always understood his limits and by understanding them so well he's found a way to transcend them so those limits that he has this keen understanding of and that being this superpower. It is something that we can. Plainly see in contrast to josh allen and john elway and patrick mahomes and lamar jackson. These absurd physical talents. And that's been clear set ever since we saw brady with shirt off to be honest at the combine in two thousand but because he is also the greatest of all time without real serious dispute at this point playing more super bowls than anyone ever by far at to ask if you fully buy his explanation that that superpower is in fact and understanding of his own limitations. At first i didn't. And i remember. I was once in his house in two thousand thirteen back when we thought he was getting old. 'cause he was going to be thirty seven when the season started. And you know he can't play forever and he said something really interesting. He said there's nothing that will be able to replace football. And hopefully it gets to appoint where there is when i retire in nine ten years and he said it so offhandedly and so smooth that it was it went right over my head. It was a shot across the bow. Here was a declaration to play until he was aged forty five and he someone who has made a mockery of conventional wisdom. And so i thought there is no way when he said that that he was someone who learned how to play football within the scope of his own limitations. But as you watch him play you actually see it on the field. And i think that it helps define him as a football player because he can't do what aaron rodgers does. He can't do it. Patrick mahomes does these sort of amazing acrobatic throws but what he can do and what he's always been able to do is pick apart a defense and bleed teams to death. And i think that that's what he was getting at when he talks about playing within his own limits because he's so deadly an accurate when he throws short.

Lamar Jackson gets his first playoff victory as Ravens beat Titans
"About the final game from day to of Wild Card Weekend the Ravens at the Titans. So Baltimore one 2213, it's Lamar Jackson's first-ever playoff win. Now. I always thought that the kind of narrative about well Lamar Jackson can't win in the playoffs my God still he he lost both games in two years like whatever. I I thought it was always massively overblown, but it was a hard tough fought game really interesting really exciting the Ravens against the Titans is it's really become a public library in my opinion and these two teams do not like each other at all.

Loss to Ravens means Dallas Cowboys' season is over, even if four games remain
"While the cowboys are officially a last place team in one of the worst divisions in nfl history in their first season under mike mccarthy they officially have losing records for the first time since two thousand fifteen in the third time since twenty ten they have more losses by seventeen or more points four of those then they have total wins. Three of those and to the point. You were making mike mccarthy after the game described the performance as disappointing noting. They had a lot of extra time going into this game to prepare Felt that was a great opportunity. And they didn't take advantage of it and then he said of their defensive issues he said it's not because of scheme which was seem to validate defensive coordinator mike nolan. He said what he also seems to imply that he thinks the players are at fault. I just know this. The cowboys defensive coaching staff of the players had twelve days to prepare for the ravens in their one. Dimensional offense now. It is one of the elite unique runoff instance and yet lamar jackson in the ravens of masculine them emasculate them with the aforementioned season. I two hundred ninety four yards rushing only reason they did surpass three hundred like the browns is because our final scoring drive came near midfield following a failed onside kicks. They can only rack up. Half of the available yard orlando brown ravens offensive. Linemen heard shouting easy money. As jk dobbins gain the final yards and scored the last touchdown without breaking a single tackle and neri a sweat. "lamar jackson" Discussed on Jalen and Jacoby
"Interview will more NBA. That's what he's going to be doing interview for more NBA. He's definitely. A high draft pick this year, he's going to be a game changer player as a tall rangy perimeter. A ball eh drop it off. He has basketball savvy a lot of things that you can't teach. So I don't beef into this too much. He reminds me a lot of wind Michael. Vick was coming when Lamar Jackson was coming out to the dream. It was kind of orthodox he wasn't like. The most popular agency. Oh his mom is representing him. Well, he's kind of hard to get in contact with I. Sent a train here. We're not going to worry about the middle of all this is home turf. I just have a message for all general managers. If you have a hydrophobic and you do not pick Lamelo Ball, you will regret it. I promise you. You will regret it. He should be the number one pick. In. High School Sports. Dan Espn two and to to break it all down enjoy. Thank you. I'm pretty sure our new house might be haunted. What makes you say that the furniture is levitating on the Ghost Wilco? Yeah. That's that's spooky. You know what's really scaring. Missing out on Geico, for help with homeowners and renters insurance GEICO makes it easy to save a bunch. Great. You're not sticking around right. Now is just getting started. Go..
"lamar jackson" Discussed on First Take
"Start out as well as you want them to be like that could be a great place for Cam Newton, but that does potentially ruined ruined Jarret stidham going forward, and it could be a great place for Jarrett Stidham if Cam Newton comes in there and struggles, people might be happy to hand it over to Jerry and hope that he does better. Better, but I think Yeah Cam Newton is still a special player and I know a motivated. Cam Newton I don't imagine that he's putting out these videos if he got ashore if he has a sore shoulder or a foot like that suggested me I know it's not a physical, and it's. It's not a substitute for a doctor getting in there during the MRI and testing things, but I'm not putting out videos. If I'm not feeling one hundred percent, I think he's feeling as good as he's felt I'm not drawing. Drawing any extra attention I'm not signing with the Patriots if I don't think that I am a super bowl winning quarterback like I have more confidence in Cam I've had in a long time. I'm looking forward to seeing him in that offense with a Josh mcdaniels awarded by that great defense than they have and doing. It's GonNa. Be Fun, maybe not fun for the teams and NFC or an AFC east. Who thought they finally had shot at this division? But it's GonNa be fun for the rest of us. Yes Stephen, a like you, said the guy after the guy. Sometimes, it's really hard to be the guy after the guy and look only seen a few times Aaron. Rodgers Steve Young were. They've come in after the guy. Was there actually performed? You kind of want to be the third dude in the line on guy after guy after. I'm succeeding right now so. Are the Patriots that I don't know if they're doing that, but but I get where you're going with that and I think that you're seeing a motivated cam which I like to see just like Dominique. was saying I. love seeing all the the videos because it makes me feel like man. He's ready to go. I can't wait to see it and I hope that we have a full regular season sixteen games no. No pause nothing with this virus going because I want to see him play. You're right. I think bill bill. Belichick is not going to be for Cam Newton. Season Video, so we may see the end of the videos was the season starts but I often think about when people say that maybe cans, personality won't Mesh Bill a bill. Belichick has said that his favourite player of all time is Lawrence. Taylor S Guy. Taylor is not a shrinking violet. To be like wow dominating. And one of Bill Belichick best friends is the Great Jim Brown people don't know as much about bill. BELICHICK's history as they need to I mean let's there's a lot of people that will rave about his. Believe it or not. His personality, who he is as a person, and I got news for you. Quite a few of them are actually that's. They got a lot of love a bill belichick. You'd be surprised. No Question Rob I want to get your thoughts on an earlier conversation we had. We asked everybody at home as well as Lamar Jackson, one of the top two quarterbacks in the NFL sixty four percent at home, said No. Where are you on this with Lamar Jackson being one of the top two QB's right now? I mean he's number one in my book I think that he's the best quarterback in the league. You you look at everything that is done so far last year. The season that he had and he's only gonNA get better. He's GonNa. Improve I WANNA see him. Get Out of situations, a little bit better this year I. Don't WanNa. See Him take. The hit, said he took I think back to when they were playing the browns and kind of a meaningless game. And he was out there, just taking big hits when when he really didn't have to take those hits balanced. Please don't get hurt. That's that's so every time I see him trying to fight for extra yardage. I think that he is the best quarterback in the NFL. He's the the best one to watch. He's exciting and I hope that we can see the progression as far as in pocket passing if he can throw the ball down the field with accuracy and run around like he's able to do, he'll be unstoppable. Second and I thought I went out on a limb, but you understand we're talking about an NFL. That includes Patrick Mahomes so you get a chance to draft any player in the League today starring your team. You're going to say Nah. I'm good Patrick Hal and Lamar you. Lamar, in the modern, the way that the modern NFL offense is moving towards that Lamar's upside with the ability to run. What's really tough fits on a defense as a defensive end that had to have the running back and the quarterback and contain trying to contain that guy is offered its arms outlook bar bank. I'm going the more. Lamar Well! Let me! Let me let me show you dominic robb. I'll give you credit where credit is due, I mean I've never heard somebody put somebody at the top of the list with more ifs in the sentence in my life outside of Max Kellerman, you might have eclipsed Max with this one I got to give it to you I gotta give credit. Credit's due because there's no way in Hell I got him number one unless Patrick Mahomes is clearly number one. I got Lamar as top five top six, but I'm. I'm not going to go as far is number one or even number two. Because all of those ifs, you highlighted now clearly you know what the upside is there and I wouldn't blame anybody draft them and they say he's one of the top two draft because of his upside, but I'm alluding to win. He's right now, and it's great as he is, and he is great. Make no mistake about it. It's primarily due to his athleticism when I think about a quarterback I think about your ability to throw the. Accurately and consistently. Accurately consistently those are the two categories, and I can't even have him as my top two right now. He's a superstar. He's big top, but I don't even have him his top two right now. I can't. I think they rob it. Just thinking about it from a former defense event is you. Don't WanNa get caught in that in that situation whereas you and Lamar out there in me as a former DB out I, don't WanNa have to cover. Somebody APAC Mahomes is throw into, but I think that Lamar is obviously in my mind is clear a number to like I don't. Understand Russell Wilson is super talented, but the pressure the Ravens put on Lamar Jackson is more than the pressure that the even the seahawks put on Russell Wilson I know oftentimes they run the ball a ton, and then they hand the ball, a rustic figure it out at the end of the game. That's a lot of pressure but Lamar. Jackson is the key to their running game. He's the key to their passing game. Game used the Keith to their defense, everything in Baltimore is built around Lamar, and he doesn't have the same level of talent around him as far as playmaker, concern is at least household names as these other guys were talking about in the top Lamar, is making guys into pro potential players, whereas I think a lot of these other quarterbacks had the good fortune of being gifted guys who'd be pro bowl players anyway. Well, I knows if you put Tyreek Hill. tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey with the Ravens. With that quarterback, he, he'd be deadly, even more deadly, so you gotta look at what you has in the receiving core what he's working with and I think moving forward his upside. Is. Man He's gotTa. have he's gotTa wear future so bright. He's weren't on the song on the glass. What would Aaron Rodgers do with tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey those boys. Head coaching, call a bad plan. You'd have to run. A true. That's true. True. Right there at. The, Events Right. Now that's what I'm talking about. Here I'll take appreciate you. "It. I went all wrong about this like that. Stick the football. I don't know what this is. What happens on the Friday the thirteenth? Why we're a wise choice? We got a lot to get into. We're going to pick all the games that we can call. Of course I WANNA get into one of the big story. NFL Right now the CBA. The negotiations there the the possible probable expansion of the league as well to seventeen games. And what you think about that but I wanNA start with Thursday night football first things first and the the Baltimore Ravens getting it done once again. No surprise really against the new jets expected him to win but what was particularly interesting. Was this decent jets run defense. It's strong jets run defense. It can stop the Ravens. Can anyone stop the Ravens. How do you stop the rain particularly jibe? How do you stop the module so this is really cool right the first thing I really I like to see good teams play against opponents? They're supposed to win and do exactly what they they are supposed to do. And and the Baltimore Ravens never play down. They always had their standard of play when they got there. And that says a lot about who. We're going to talk about Lamar Jackson. He is is the temple of that team and they follow his leadership. And you see I mean they do not let off the gas right period. So everybody's thinking right right now. How do you stop the Guy and you know me and my Buddy Osi who's your buddy also by the way I'm just saying we're speaking about this early in the season? He says yes something he said you know when we played. We had a running quarterback we had a thing called a Q.. Call which was basically because he's an edge. Defendant so an outside linebacker defense in we. We are coming down hill and we are hitting the quarterback every single. Damn because the way you gonNA call the game is going to change the coordinator if up your quarterback keeps getting hit. And he's done it with Michael Vick. He's done it wh- Vick was in Philly Philly. 'cause they played them twice so I I was like yeah. I remember that in the year. Earl Thomas make this comment about their starting to go after his legs. You know. He's the first person you know they're tackling in his legs. They're doing this that's exactly the. NFL is a physical game were brotherhood. We're not out to hurt anybody but little slow you down you. If I'm covering a fast receiver over and I have and I tackled him. I might roll a certain way to kind of twist his ankle to slowing down for that day and let him know. You're there I I don't want you to be fast all day like that doesn't help me. Why would you let? Let's be clear about that if we go back into the history books and you look at Bounty Gate Bounty Gate story listeners. Listening in on those watching not familiar is when the New Orleans Saints Greg Williams the nation that time got caught out because they were actively Greg Williams actively telling his players to target target the opposition and an hit him hard. Are we talking about that level. No what are we talking. We're talking about the way. The rules rules are set up in the way to competition. Committee said as a quarterback you're protected but when you are a runner you are a runner. And and so the quarterbacks that are running quarterbacks once they do all the kind of stuff that now they're not a pocket passer and they're running. You tackle them like a runner. NFL game they go about a running back. If a running back comes out and you want to slow him down you chip him or a guy like he's coming off the defense in you chip them to slowing down. It's football So now if I have to running threats and I have to go attack one to eliminate them just like a screw in the screen game you know you might hit the guy back there. If he's trying to block you you can it's legal Same thing with the quarterback instead of him running around like he you know he's free and and he's not. He's not a runner. And entreat him not like a writer. You do and thing about it is you think of the RPO the run pass option and was very happy. But that was that was all around the league. Everybody's doing defense defense start to say now. I need to take away one thing. I need to stop one thing so you don't have to option. Yeah I'm going to be weakened one but at least I know I am so if you take away you you attack Lamar. When he's running any kind of option run? You might be weaker in the middle but at least you know. That's where you can be beat Lamar on the outside. It can destroy you almost stoppable. So where is the line then. Because I've heard some people suggest what we're going to start to see particularly we get to. The playoffs is teams gambling following your logic to the degree where they might even get a fifteen yard penalty prepared to take that risk if it means getting in Llamas is faced the degree you're talking about. Where is the line where no no penalty? This is the the rules the rules are you. We've taken the head on and again. We were not doing anything that you can't do to a runner right. It's nothing difference. It's just in. The pocket of quarterback quarterback is protected differently. You can't hit them low. It's a strike zone. I guess is what I'm saying. Do you think we'll start to see when everything is on the line. Line teams taking crossing that line to hit them or Layton's you know pocket. No nobody's GonNa hit them late. I'm not talking about when he's close to being out of bound I'm saying when he's running the option and instead of as in defender on the line plane that how you supposed to okay let me see if he hands it off if he does does. I'm going to go down and tackle him. Let me see if he runs round. Just go right at him. Let's say I'm eliminating. This threat is being number one receiver. I'm not gonNA cover you on one play cover cover to roll up. Put hands on you. At the line of scrimmage and slow you down that's what you're doing and Lamar you're not letting your best weapon go your double team him. You're stopping him. You're deploying assets to eliminate him. It's legal is. That's the way I don't know if it's going to work but if I'm going to do that I'm saying he's run option. We are tackling Lamar. Okay one of the theory of kicked around this week is look at the two defeats the Ravens of had is because they've being behind early on that had to chase the game so the the browns and the chiefs when he put their foot on the gas quickly unforced Arabia's to rethink that game implant. Yes is an eas- donges about right. But that is. There's a fundamental difference with this ravens. Offense when they are chasing the game is to pose to win their control in the game right right. I mean they're not built for Lamar Jackson. Stand back there in a pocket and slaying the ball down to fill all day. It's not going to happen. But guess what they did because they understand Annette. They win traded for Marcus. Peters they got better on defense deal they got better on defense best four corners in the league and they are stout in the middle of the. You know a little bit about this position j but when that deal went down Acoustic Jalen Ramsey was getting all the headlines because he's an elite player he was the name machi signing for Rams bye-bye pizzas. We don't need anymore. What did you think of the time? Did you think time that's a mistake signing Jalen but letting go no He didn't fit what they were at the rams and he's not a number one corner. He's not a lockdown number one corner he's great in Baltimore scheme because the way they disguise things they let him play how he needs to play and he's the third best corner. Marlin Humphries Jimmy Smith and then him right. Then you got car you know. So MARLA humphries is one of the top corners in the League period at the end of the season going into next year. We'll be talking about him being a top three corden done His Dad was running back. Really Yeah Yeah Humphries. Enough Bobby Humphries played for Denver in the blood. Yes that's why he wears number forty four. I was like how does a corner good. Where number forty four this crash number A? It's the dad's numbers so it's not trash okay. anyways that's a season is up there with with. Who Comes your power concordance? Jalen still go there even though it has a strong season right below. More Gilmore Guy. Yeah Hands Down Kil clear cut number number one. It's not. Nobody's even playing in his yard. But but I think if there's a number two with Humphries Humphries Humphries tackles. He can play pressman he can play zone coverage it's about being able think about what they do they did to Peter the other day They blocked up. Everybody made tackle one. Those are the game changing. Plays that happening in Baltimore. They're gonNA fix that because they're going to get on him. He missed tackles they single them up. That's what they do to corner. Richard Sherman is so good because what he's so physical is a coin the run game and he's having a great year by the way he might be top five on Sherman. Do you see this in other sports. Positions is this true with corner as well. The if you've got that benefit experience wisdom and guile you might be the quickest guy. You might not be the most physical the best tackler but that extra split second of perception a section just gives you a message. Yeah and what really helps you if you weren't a guy that was dependent on your speed so if your corner euro four to guy you're flying and you slow down now you haven't got better technically. There's nothing else right but if you're a four five guy all day long this is who you are your four six guy but but people have to realize speed is what it is but imagine this. You're trying to get to a point right speed gets here but what if you have really long arms and you're tall you can be a second slower. You still got to get there and knocked the ball down but you have longer arms. You're taller great wingspan. And that's that's it. Yeah okay so going forward thing on the rabies and we'll move on are they in your mind the strongest team in the NFL. They the team to beat one more than the forty nine yes more than an in the AFC sudden yes and it's because lesson. I believe in defense defense travels well. They play yeah well in bad weather. There often plays well in bad weather. They have a good offense align. Good offense aligns travel well and you have the one thing you need and football more than anybody the body you have a leader you believe in and a leader that just has that magical leadership man you see them guys rally around the Mark We. We can't even we don't have to guess they told US watch them. Did you see the jets players lining up to get Jersey sign at the end of the Game Jaga level and I will say about. I won't say this actually but I wanNA know there's been quarterbacks that have been you'd have to name a high caliber guys great guys great players but the whole they didn't really respect everybody. Locker occur to the sense that I feel like Lamar Jackson. Yeah you know like not that they were bad but you know you'd have to be one of the top ten guys on the team for the kind of hang out with cooler cool which you or whatever this guy's like everyone's back you see it. That's why I love ally. I loved ally mayor just he was cool with everybody. Everybody you know anyways love and Eli bag by the way I want it..

"Well uh-huh maybe put your prediction hat on a little bit. The the Ravens just clinched a playoff berth. How far do you think this Baltimore team can go with Lamar Jackson? I think they're legit super bowl contenders and I don't think there's any doubt about that. I mean look at the teams that they've beaten. They beaten the bills this week. They've been the forty niners beaten the seahawks. They've beaten the Patriots defeating the Texas. I mean these are all playoff teams. You know these are the teams are going to be playing so is IT A. Is it a guarantee or anything like that. No but I do think right now. With the way he's playing with the way their defense is is playing with the way John Harbaugh gives them an edge by being really aggressive on fourth down and kind of analytically typically minded. You combine all those different things their position to have home field advantage throughout in the AFC and see every year. What a big factor that can be so You know I think they're certainly the favorites in the AFC to get to the Super Bowl right now. Doesn't mean it's going to happen but I think they've got a good shot. We'll see you. Thanks so much for joining us. Thanks thanks for having me. You can read shield Kapadia story about Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense and his other. "So she'll lamar putting up all these ridiculous numbers. How has he been doing it? I think obviously it starts arts with his ability to hurt teams with both his arm and his legs. I mean just athletically. He's doing things. We don't see anyone else do the way he jukes. I mean he makes a defender Vendor. Look silly the F.. One of these cliffs on twitter goes viral. It feels like every week extension with his legs. Yeah one of my favorite stats is. He's the the eighth best rusher this season. And he's leading the league in yards per carry. It's incredible yeah all those stats. I haven't seen anything like him before. And you know obviously whenever we talk about Lamar Jackson and we talk about you. Know his skills on the ground his running skills but we really shouldn't overlook his passing using ability. There's no doubt about it. I mean his passing numbers. If you compare them to second year quarterback they stack up very well in what what he doesn't get enough credit for is his ability to read coverages and also his decision. Making you know you saw in that game against the Patriots. They tried every different coverage in in the book with Bill Belichick to confuse him and it didn't work. He knew what he was looking at. You saw that Monday night. Football game against the rams that's going up against Wade Phillips one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL and you can see it on film where he's saying you know. Maybe we can confuse the Mark Jackson accent. He's only in his second year and I mean Jackson just knew exactly what he was doing getting rid of the football so that really is the part of his game that you know it doesn't get shown with all the highlight reel plays but if you're watching the film we're talking to opposing coaches. Were talking to his teammates. That's what's really stood out and we see this in this game. Aim yesterday his ability to improvise. There is at one play there in the red zone and he looks like there's nothing on the ground for Jackson flipping charcoal the goal. Nick coyle these for the touchdown on conventional but effective so good at school yard plays and that's the kind of exciting stuff we've seen from Lamar this season. Yeah just that little flip. I mean that is what has made defensive coordinators so frustrated with this guys you can it almost. No what's coming at times. You can have every player doing what they're supposed to do every assignment and at some point just the improvisational skills that we see see from him where it almost requires a defender to be in two places at one time to stop him and Yeah you're right that that was another incredible play. It seems like he has is at least one of those every week. And what has John Harbaugh had to say about what he sees from. Lamar so far. I think our boys just kinda shocked at how Mature Jackson Ms at twenty two. There's one clip against the bengals. That kind of went viral were harbaugh. goes up to Lamar Jackson. It's a blow out. And he goes up to him on the sideline and says you know you've changed the game locates. He's country refugees twenty years when I know what you're doing knowing you're going to see kids wearing number eight jerseys for the next twenty years trying to play quarterback and Jackson's reaction is like that's cool but I'm trying to win the Super Bowl right now and you can see just like wow. This kid really is special. I don't have to sort of coach him to be humble or WANNA get better. Do those different things. That's just sort of his makeup. The way he's wired. Also can you give us a little background on Lamar Jackson. Yeah he grew up in in Florida. He got heavily recruited. He was the great high school player but his mom specifically wanted to make sure he was going to go somewhere and be a quarterback so Louisville was the school that said we promise you if if he comes here. He's going to play quarterback and Lamar Jackson. Are you kidding me with this. He played as a freshman freshman. I think he started eight games with the. MVP OF THEIR BOWL game touchdown on Jackson Daniela's then he just took off and in had just an incredible sophomore year. The winner is Lamar Jackson of University of Louisville. Won The heisman. Trophy had another good year as a junior and then Enters the draft and gets taken by the Ravens and when he first came into the League there were some teams and definitely some pundits who thought he might be better off else as a wide receiver. I don't think that Lamar Louisville kids in that in that discussion in fact there's a question that he may be. He might be a receiver and it has to do with girth and and and skill set as well we now know. A number of teams have also requested the Jackson workout with the wide receivers as well. They want to see both workouts Jackson's yet to say at least publicly whether he's amenable animal to that. Why was that part of the conversation at all? I mean there are so many things at play. I think you can start with these sort of bigger picture after that. NFL teams are not great. At evaluating quarterbacks I it's hard to do and you see your after year. Where a guy the guy who drafted I is not necessarily the best quarterback out of that class when you look at it three years later so I think that's number one and then I mean there are a lot of these people in? Nfl Front offices just have a the traditional mindset of what they want out of the quarterback position or you know what that person looks like and they sort of lacked imagination to look at a player like the Mark Jackson and say there are so many things he does well. We need to build around all of his strength in a lot of teams. Just don't think about that. I mean there's a scenario an alternative initiative reality where Jackson get drafted by another team. And he's not even playing right now where he's playing in the wrong scheme and so he's drafted last year. The Ravens taken with the last pick in the first round and he's not expected to start. That's right yeah Joe. FLACCO is their quarterback to start the season they go four and five flacco gets injured. All of a sudden Lamar Jackson gets a chance and the team just takes off I mean they go six and one in their final seven games. They make the playoffs. He's the youngest. I quarterback ever to start a playoff game and that really showed them that. You know what we don't need to wait with this kid. We don't need to have him learned behind a veteran. He's ready right now and we need to sort of invest all our resources this offseason into making sure he succeeds and just remind everyone of the type of football all the ravens were playing under. Joe FLACCO I always felt like they were one of the most boring teams in the NFL. I mean not just last year with flacco the last several years you know. Some of these franchises are just sort of stuck in mud. They're boring they're irrelevant. And that was the ravens I mean I always said for those of you who watched the red zone channel you you know there are certain teams that come on and you're kind of like come on. I don't need to see what's happening with this team right now. And then all of a sudden Jackson comes in and they're changing their offense on the fly why they're changing the way they play. So it's incredible how far they've come in one year just with that. That transition quarterback and they've they've really invested invested in building a team around him. How how have the ravens built around Lamar Jackson number one is promoted Greg Roman to offensive offensive coordinator and for those who are unfamiliar with Greg? Roman he was the forty Niners Offensive Coordinator when Colin Kaepernick was playing so well from two thousand eleven two two thousand.

"Yes and the reason I wanted him to play from the jump is I wanted to have other things revealed on the field. is He a good competitor. How does he deal with adversity? When he's not playing? Well how does he deal with close game situations I under I understand Detroit stinks. They're terrible that team they put out. There is horrible yes okay but still both teams trying to win the game and I think that that athletic arrogance that he has on on the field is a plus in people have told me the last last day because I I is essentially said. I didn't think he sucked his much. Wasn't very good for three and a half quarters. I get incredibly inaccurate. But they're all simplicity made and then he delivered in the clutch and people are saying is Jason Campbell. He's the opposite of Jason Kam. That Jason Jason Cable was soft soft-spoken didn't swag didn't have that confidence. This guy believes he's the best player on the field. Yes and the problem with that is he may be the first to tell you that when the game is over even during the game a man. I'd like to see him perform rather than promise before he's performed but Tommy there's a lot that he he does. That's intriguing to me. I was not a fan of him coming out of the draft. Not a fan at all. Didn't like that. They picked him at fifteen. But I am intrigued by what I've seen gene and I I think first of all. This ship has sailed if it didn't already. He's going to be the quarterback for the next year the next year. So what happened to your Alex Smith Theory for what what I'm saying is they're not going to draft another quarterback okay there. There's no way Snyder if Allen still here which which. I don't think he's going to be. There's no way Snyder's going to allow them to draft another quarterback to put this roster. I agree so wh you know we've got we've you know buckling and we've got him for the next five games the end of this year and a whole year next year more likely than not as the starter Alex started. I don't know I mean I guess it could happen. No I mean look at if Allen Reussira could happen if Alex Smith can play. He's going to be here starting next year. I mean he's not sitting with Dan. Snyder Snyder in that box every Sunday. He's there every Sunday for just because he's doing time they're really tight Aleksandar. Yes and we know. That's the key to getting on the field of big key to a lot of things in that organization. So I don't I don't think she's gotta be able to one of the reasons I've said I don't think Bruce's I believe Bruce in going to be there because if people were were revealing something here. Bruce isn't as close with Dan on game days. Used to be no. He hasn't serious some distance than they. They don't make out Smith the general manager. Maybe they'll make Alex Michie did I. Did I tell you that last week. No no I I I threw it out and I don't know if it's here on the radio show you remember Pam play. Don't be shocked if he's in the organization organization in a significant role. You know that that's true that's true. Let me ask you about Joe Theismann. Let's let's get Selfie for one thing. I think you're right. We don't no no we don't we don't we haven't had nearly enough yet to judge if he can play in the. NFL there have been some good moments. I think I would still bet against that. He becomes comes. A franchise quarterback and the franchise quarterback definition. Nobody really has it. I'll just throw it out here. You got to be like a consistent top ten to top twelve quarterback back in the league like not numbers wise but people would say. Were picking starting quarterbacks. And you're one of the first twelve picked. That's a franchise quarterback. I would still bet against it it but I'm definitely just more interested in watching this play out than I would have been a month or two ago Based on what I saw him Do in college and got confirmation last night from John Kim who had a conversation with him he actually has lost weight and body fat from from Ohio. State that's why he looks more mobile title and is faster and quicker than he ever appeared to be at Ohio state but go ahead. I think it's too early. Look I'm not bailing on him as as a quarterback. I think it's too early. We we haven't had nearly enough seen him on the field plus and I've made this point and Brian Baldinger made this point on On the station I'm on Radio station WANNA six seven fan. It's awfully hard to judge him when the towns around him is so bad and the coaching Ching around him is so bad. It's it's really hard to to make some kind of judgments about them. You can make judgments on certain. I know that some of the things we saw Sunday. You know it doesn't matter. The coaching staff is done. You saw guy desperately in urgently competing to try to win a game. which that's why the Jason Campbell? Thing is complete disconnect. Can anybody envision Jason Campbell being urgent about anything. The way he played was was very we. You know I it was. It was not with a great deal of confidence or authoritativeness. I think you see Dwayne trying to be the authority trying the guy out there. Yeah I kind of like that but go ahead okay. So I'm not bailing on him a quarter. Okay let's get to the Selfie right. He saw what Joe Theismann iceman said of course and then. He came on the station with Canal yesterday and I listened to that. I don't know if you listen to that night. And he's sort of backpedaled a little bit and was more complimentary entry and talking about Dwayne but he stuck with the you know. That's a moment you can't miss. It's unprofessional and you should be thinking about celebrating it with your teammates. First just before you celebrate it with anybody else okay so for everyone who had a problem with Joe Theismann tweet when he tweeted out. It was unprofessional in wrong. If it wasn't unprofessional national was a professional. No it wasn't okay so then it's unprofessional. Was it right now. Then it was wrong it was a mistake yes simply put he. If and I said this yesterday if you I don't think he made a mistake. You're immoral less. He made a mistake. And I'm already of the of the feedback. I've gotten a social media. That said that he didn't make them smell. They're stupid now. Now your reaction to the mistake like is it. The worst mistake ever is it revealing of something is it did the world just end or did you feel differently gently about it. That's open to sort of. It's a subjective thing when you're when you have a play left in the game and your quarterback starting quarterback who who is played the entire game and he's not injured isn't out there for that final play. That's a mistake period. He should have been there. Now let's move onto your reaction into the mistake. I'm not going to debate. Nobody nobody with intelligence is GONNA debate that it wasn't a mistake. Well I combine it with his performance at the press conference difference I think it was a revealing moment. most people think it was a teachable moment of immaturity. I tend to think you've got a glimpse of WHO Twain Haskins is and. I don't think that's going to change. I'm not sure what it is but my initial reaction. Well my reaction after thinking about it for three minutes was it's not the end of the world. He's young. He was excited. They just won their first game in a long time at home his first game as a starter. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but I want it to be a teachable moment for the organization. You think it was revealing. That's fine and it may turn out to have been revealing. Only time will tell. We don't know that for sure but I do think in the moment it has to be for any organization that understands understands right versus wrong an opportunity to sit down with him and say look. You're excited you thought. The game was over the clocks. Act The clock actually revealed Zeros on it also just everybody understands. He did. Celebrate it with Kevin O'CONNELL and Morgan Moses and so people on the bench before he went over to take the selfish actually before he took took the selfish he was high fiving fans in the stands. Okay but but before all of that there is the shot of him on the sidelines. REDSKINS are getting ready to kick off fine. The kickoff of him hugging Kevin O'CONNELL Morgan Moses and the whole thing but per- personally. I think you've got the you got to ensure that he understands ends that this was a mistake and can't happen again who teaches well. That's that's a big question. They don't have the I mean who in the organization other than Callahan. Who admitted that? It was as a mistake but who in the front office would even view it as a mistake. Well Doug Williams would Doug Williams would not going I actually think Bruce Allin would actually view it as a missile. Yeah Bruce Snyder. Snyder probably immediately began apologizing for them is my guess. Oh I think that's my my point is if anyone in the organization actually sat down to to tell them that you can't apologizing for rationalizing. Well of course yes. Am I point that would be the biggest teacher in the organization most powerful. Oh teacher the guy who owns the team. Dan Snyder probably thought it was great. Yeah prob- probably thought all this great connecting with the fans. Thought it was great and as long as you're a player and you know the owner probably was fine with what he did. Why would you care? What what Bill Callahan Dan? Or Doug Williams Bruce Allen says the owner thinks it's cool. I don't know if that's the case I'm predicting what I think. Dan Snyder's reaction would. There's no doubt that if you if we had to to discuss What do we think Dan? Snyder's reaction was. I would agree with you and probably was you know on on the phone with Haskins and Haskins the corporate the the the LLC that they've created and told all the people that work for did you see that what a job over there. The Celtics. Yes we're GONNA get pictures of itself fees we're GonNa get that guy that guy ahead on the radio show. I don't know I had him on the radio show. You didn't have that Tommy. Oh I I didn't want to I didn't want to. It was a bit of a debate and I'm like why are we doing this. Does he have some sort of story. That's going to be everything. Tainting be station. PUT THEM ON. Trust me. I did it and Aaron texted me last night and said get this guy and I said Nope I already did on the radio and it was a waste of time. Sorry because the guy was a nice guy I listened to the podcast is named Hymie. I forget what his last name was. But he was very nice and he was a new football fan in the market was the first game he's ever attended but I didn't personally. I mean unless there was some. You know crazy crazy story. There look his camera. Just if you were one was. He said it was his phone. I figured it was. I mean that would have been more excited. Pulled out his phone. Yeah I thought it was but I mean I just think I just think it's foolish to glorify the moment and putting them on the air does that but if you put him on the air if you're one of the TV talking empty heads who put him on the air and they think it's cool. They all think what he did is great. Well what he would haskins not. Don't think everybody thinks skins did anyone who put him on the air and sat down and talk to them. Thanks thanks what happened was great well so anyway You know what that has passed and it'll become an issue like draft night like You know league done messed up like all of the things that are sort of building up a case against him in terms of if you believe that arrogance in character and self-absorption all sorts of play into your reason as to why you don't think he's GonNa turn out to be great. You're you're building up some evidence. It's hard to dispute that. Let me just be on the record. Again I'd run away from this kid after what I saw that Prescott and let me be on the record. I bet against him becoming franchise record record quarterback but I am going to be patient and watch this thing play out because there are things that he has that to me. I'm buying into a little bit and I'm talking about the stuff on the field primarily Okay real quickly if you WANNA listen to.

"Let me ask you a question. You go into the Ravens Game Sunday I want to. I'm going up I really want to. It could be the super bowl. But the Redskins the panthers at one o'clock in that's true and so I do have to rely. I do have sort of a responsibility. Gino Oh and did you know this that the Ravens Forty niners game is on Fox yes and the redskins. Panther's game is unseen BS. I did not know that I thought that that might be the case. I thought they would try to move that around. One of those network across that part of it was because I think that NBC might have tried to get this game Fox blocker do you know Fox and CBS both have a certain number of blocks. And I think that might have been a concession is that that might have moved to see. Well we know Fox blocked cowboys Patriots last week. And that's why are they got forty niners packers this week though you've got patriot. Patriots Texans in the NBC. Sunday night spot and it's a CBS double header. Right and the the forty niner raven game is on Fox so they're not moving brady out of Sunday night for this one. I don't know if it's because it's blocked or because NBC said. You know what we got Brady Against Shawn Watson that's pretty good But it's a one o'clock game and it's it will be a little bit crazy Baltimore Tortoise going to be nuts in Baltimore in. It's also this is could be the opportunity to see the Redskins at one o'clock opposite a another one o'clock game get outraged the other one o'clock game we've seen the redskins numbers dropped significantly when it's up against another big game typically. That's been a game involving the cowboys. Yes yes this is head to head. One o'clock Ravens Forty niners or Redskins. Panthers what are most people in this market going to watch I I. I don't know I don't know I. I don't know why he would watch how you could turn away from Ravens. Forty niners have especially after what happened last night. Especially after that Monday night game I mean all all week people are going to be talking about Lamar Jackson and you know I view him the same way I do. Come one of those yet dozen guys that are so unique that they become has become must wa. I become less watch. I just don't want to link them to those guys. Until oh he sustained something like this I gotTa give credits Martin Conway my my Co Instructor for the Business Sports Media. Georgia I teach towards George down. He said this could be the new crime. Stoppers in Baltimore remembered basketball player. Yeah where was his naming a Keel car. Where the he ever playing college? I don't see hall. He got to Seton Hall. But I think there were eligibility issues and stuff so I'm not sure if he ever actually played a game for those that don't know what we're talking about there was is a basketball player. A high school player named Akil car. Who apparently was just ridiculous to watch and they nicknamed him the crime stopper because is every time he played crime completely came to a halt and Baltimore because they all wanted to watch him? This could be Lamar. Jackson could be the new crime stoppers in Baltimore. And I think that's it. He's come to a halt. Come one o'clock on Monday. I think aren't they. I think they are. They are the Super Bowl favourite after last night after destroying the rams the way they did there now on my book Aaron. They're the favorites the Patriots. I've got them at at basically three two. I'm sorry I've got them at five to two and I've got the Patriots at three two one. It looks explain. It looks like in Vegas for the most part the Ravens are the favourite. And when you look in New Jersey and some other places the Patriots are still the favorite there but it's close forty niners and saints are co-favorites in the NFC to win the NFC championship. So we could definitely be facing a preview of the Super Bowl I raynal don't see anybody stopping the ravens except an injury to Jack Site. That's the only thing that's what I see them going. I if caught. I almost hope that game in Foxboro. 'cause I'd love to see the Ravens go into Foxborough in just S. all over. Well they sent an AFC championship game. As I think the Patriots can stop them although that would be that would be. You WanNa Belichick's greatest achievements. Yes somehow the ravens run roughshod through the rest of their schedule get to AFC title game. BELLICHIK stops them. Yeah I wouldn't underestimate bill But I will be there on Sunday Amity Bank stadium for this okay so that means you can't ask Bill Callahan. Any questions in five minute press conference going to follow the panthers. I'm not driving Charlotte to see to see this team play. DVR The redskin game and watch the forty niner game live you know. I think he can do that in this century. I'm not sure you can do that. couple of other quick things before we move onto the redskins actually before I move onto introducing the audience that we have. And what they said about you before we get started so on Friday The NFL network started this Show in identifying the one hundred greatest players in NFL has watched it. I've not watched it. I think it's a great show. I mean because when we were growing up running backs this this was running backs. This was running back when we were growing up running backs where the starts right and I mean running backs where the guys that you fell in love with that you watch so two things on this number number one Because we haven't done a show since I saw this list. Did you see the twenty four finalists should have been on that list. Of course you know overture own. Of course he should've absolutely on that on that twenty four lists and I talked about this on Friday. I thought it was a disgrace that he was not on. That should have been on the list in front of batteries. He should have been on the list in front of Thurman Thomas In my opinion and he should have been on the list and you can speak to this better than I. He should have been on the list before. Jim Taylor you know I think that was that was just trying to grab somebody from that. From that era well grabbed a Lotta guys from a lot of different. I know they did. I know they did. I think they were trying to do their best. I with that Look I think we go should have been on minimum on the twenty four th on the list of twenty four I think Larry Czanka should have been on the list. I don't work I I watched I don't also inside. So did I watched sonke too so I remember in the World Footballer. He he was he he was for his time one of the most feared running backs in the NFL he will. I would've put song among the twenty four to so Rigaud should've been on the twenty four and the The final list Ahead here moments ago now let me ask you question. I watched it and I haven't watched it so don't spoil spoiler if it's really good in spots no no. It's great. I mean the the the film of these guys running is great so I'm not going to spoil. I've heard Bella. Chicks phenomenal. He is he he really is. He's phenomenal in it But you know I think. Although they don't say this in the stories that they were they wrote they they rated from one through twelve. No I heard that they don't rank them okay but they made a big point of saying of making answer. Why did they introduce Jim Brown? I it was a way to introduce the program. Everybody knows the gym around on the team. I know that put but they touted him. It's number one. Wouldn't you put number. Yes I would. Here's my argument. They were ranking them. And maybe I'm wrong and I you know I could be wrong. 'cause there's nothing online that says they rated them one through twelfth right. They got around to tend to introduce in Walter Payton it was not supposed to be ranked. Okay was it alphabet ICAL. I don't think ground around could have been the first one actually Tommy. Guess what I've got. This medical Emmett Smith was introduced second on the show the way they just the way they laid it out on. NFL DOT COM. He's alphabetically ocassion. Brown is number one alphabet. Emmett Smith was introduced. As was Earl Campbell number two. No he was not okay so Emmett Smith was number two on the show so the list so forget what I said. They obviously didn't rank them according to any kind of order because I would have been pretty angry if they waited till ten to get wall would agree with you so okay but if they put her Campbell number two. I don't know if I would have had a problem with that. I I mean I I mean to me it. It's Jim Brown Walter Payton. It's Barry Sanders. emmitt Smith Earl Campbell's Campbell's always been in that that that group for me so I was glad to see him. Make the final list. The guys that we thought shouldn't have been in by the way I could have been there in front of Franco Harris to do the steeler teams. Tommy were all about their defense number one and then yet you had Franko and you had and you had bradshaw in the the last two super bowls throwing to Swann Stallworth. As a big portion of their offense thought Franko was Great Hall of fame running back. I think we're go was better. Okay I would again. My big issue with Rigaud was was bad. It's on there. I mean there's no doubt good personally I don't even think about. It should be in the hall of fame. There's no doubt Out that was was a running back. Jerome Bettis come on Eric. Dickerson made the final twelve. I Arctic was the third running back that they they mentioned Eric Actors in number three on my list well Eric Dickerson was was a really good running back to hall of Famer top twelve all time. I think he had lenny. You know they'd guys here that I can't speak to Earl Dutch Clark from the thirties. The final twelve they had they had Stephen Beard for either. Did and I understand that you do you know. Yeah what about Marion Motley. Mary Motley we absolute way. Do you see the video on Iranian. I've seen some of those highlights. I mean it's basically. They took Joe Jacobi gave him the ball and didn't anywhere anywhere like a Jersey ever in the seventies and I understand Steve Van Buren the Eagles won two. NFL titles and forty eight and forty nine. With Steve Van Buren. I Ah fullback. Wrote a book about the Eagles you did this I did. Is that one available for a nickel and Amazon. Yes it is. Yeah why did you write a book about somebody. He paid me to write a book about. Of course I wrote a book about professional wrestling. Somebody pay me to do that. I never knew you wrote a book about the. It's called Eagles essential. So you'd like it. It's actually an it's an easy read. It doesn't come with crayons is good Remind me I would resign. Brought it up was Rigaud I but secondly so somebody called. When I was in in the conversation about this on the radio show Friday and and said Jackson's got to be on the list? I he played thirty eight games. I said I I know what Bo Jackson was Bo. Jackson makes the top five all time. Great running backs if if he just plays for two more years but he didn't right he played thirty eight games. So my son Corbin you guys know out of the Blue Do..

"Thanks. So you would never I wouldn't accept it. All right number two rate. Soon. Lamar Jackson the starter again. Despite Joe flacco be unhealthy hawk is this the right decision. Of course, it is. That's just what happened early in the season. Joe you called me stupid. You called me hapless. And here you are. I love making the announcement that I was a genius all per usual. Here the hawk show is the right one. Because for whatever reason the ravens are playing motivated. Lamar Jackson isn't light ended up in the past game? But he's running the ball, really effective. And the ravens are winning the three and one in the last four games down the stretch. I think they're at a point now that even if they didn't feel like Lamar Jackson is the future. They didn't feel like Lamar Jackson has developed to the point where he should be the starting quarterback. They are ready to cut ties with Joe flacco going forward. So this is an opportunity to do. So. And then they will come to the table later. One decide whether Lamar Jackson is the guy in perpetuity. This is the end of the Joe flacco era. He was a highly paid quarterback that one a great Super Bowl forum. But then never really lived quite back up to the expectations that the contract bought. He's been very average lately. Even the drafting. Jackson has not improved his play. Now he's been injured, and it's officially the Lamar Jackson era from here until at least a couple more years in Baltimore. I will say a couple of good things about Lamar Jackson. That's impressed me. He looks a little bit like Patrick Mahomes when he's getting outside the pocket and even inside the pocket the way he has those crazy arm Ingles. And the way he's able to throw the ball in there. Like a dart. He's got great arm strength. He doesn't throw it as accurately as Patrick Mahomes. But he has really impressed so far with his decision making because he hasn't made a lot of those rookie mistakes that you would expect out of a rookie and a guy that really hasn't started that many games has he made some rookie mistakes. Yeah. But not as many as you'd expect and his running ability has obviously really surpassed anything anybody expected, you hope that he's going to be able to stay healthy. He got a little bit ding. The other day on a scramble not even running play. But you hope that right now for the ravens sake he's able to stay healthy the rest of the season because they've gone way. Too far down the rabbit hole of Lamar Jackson quarterbacking running the ball forty. Times a game to be able to switch it up right now. Yeah. I mean, he's a little gunshot for me. That's that's my only issue with Lamar Jackson. It might be a smart thing. He's taking it slow, but he has a little gun shy. I think he's a better through than what he's putting out in the field right now. And sometimes you gotta take those chances, man. But I'm not going to argue with him. He's three in one. And he's get Joe flacco bench. So must be doing something. Right. So those flacco haters are now. Lamar Jackson lovers. Yes. Just like that. All right, guys. Let's say a quick break that talk about our friends over at Toyota to iota isn't just a car company and the new podcast Toyota. Untold isn't just about cars. It's about mobility. It's about overcoming challenges like me trying to ease up on the soda helping people move physically socially, Ed, emotionally. It's about finding solutions. "All right. Let's let's talk some Lamar Jackson here. This was something. Everyone was was incredibly curious about coming to the to the day here. Lamar Jackson makes his first career start for an inner Joe flacco. The ravens snap eight three game losing streak. They beat the Bengals anti. I'll I'll just ask the general question here. What were your impressions of Lamar Jackson? He ran twenty seven times in the game twenty seven rushing attempts. That's a lot for a big running back. That's where he starving. That's I've never heard of that or seen anything like that in my life. Watching the game. I knew he was running a lot. You got the field. The offense was going through that. And the Bengals clearly were not ready for in the first series. It's Marvin Lewis in his first game in fifteen years calling defensive plays. The you come out, and you show them all these read option looks they didn't have those fifteen years ago, and then they mix in some temple themselves. Great tactic against the new defensive play caller the Bengals got better against Jackson's the game went along. But Gary the discussion is because I I guess there's two parts is Jackson playing next week is he starting we got to go over that. And then is this sustainable because I have to believe if they think Jackson's starter moving forward. I don't think they would have ran him twenty seven times. Yeah. I I mean, I right here you have to build something on top of this. As far as the passing game goes. I Don I mean, look they came out. They had an eleven play drive to start the game here. All those eleven plays were were rushing, please. They got a lead. They played with the lead for for most this game. You know, the Bengals did end up coming back. So I guess he did play from behind. I don't know. I mean twenty four run. Playing. They weren't protecting a lead at any point. I mean, I know that. Yeah. Oh, they weren't taking the air out of the ball. Absolutely. But but the question is, you know, when you I don't know who's coming up in their schedule. When you go somewhere you're down Oakland touchdowns late in the second quarter. What you're playing going to be? You're gonna have to figure out some way to throw the ball. I mean, this is this is the Bengals defense that has not been very good at all into only come up with one hundred fifty passing yards. He took a couple of sacks. He hadn't I n t. And this I it's all I have a problem with Lamar Jackson is in terms of his development. I just I, you know, I don't know if I don't know if you win enough gains playing this style of football in two thousand eighteen I don't think and I don't think you can I.

"Like I said, dent to -ception that ability just makes that split second hesitation for the defense that much more valuable for the three thing is really interesting because I think we all saw it now he, she should look refined, didn't play football for a year, but he has a ton of credit hours in the National League as a start, even going to Cleveland, he did get a chance to start for the Cleveland Browns keeping three quarterbacks. How often is that done? When you have you haven't project now you have a guy, but you're going to use Lamar Jackson, the keep three RG three plays well enough to where you like e should be on a teen, but is the ravens. The team that he ends up on med is the biggest question because all of this is surrounding around Joe flacco play, which we are not going to be able to see until the regular season, and that's why it's going to put the Baltimore Ravens in tough. Situation because we know Lamar Jackson is future of the organization were still not unsure if our three is going to be a part of it, and the decision is still made to be met with Joe flacco on whether they're going to keep them or try to trade him. So that's where it's tough situation and put them in a bind. Because let's say you do go out there with Joe flacco. He doesn't play well, and now you're gonna wanna try to switch to Lamar Jackson, RG three. Are you going to be able to take away another spot in another position, whether it is offense of line, whether it's is another wide receiver running back or a pass rusher because when you do take that roster spot and it's not granted to a practice squad guy, you're going to be slimming another department on your team, the ethic if it's not flack, like you said, if he plays poorly through the first five or six weeks and they wanna make a change, I think you go to RG three like I'm with you. I don't think Jackson will be ready yet. No. So it's a tricky situation because RG three, twenty eight. He's I mean with all his talent. You know, it's too soon. To give up on him. So this is really going to be interesting with those two things. What more do you want? Say Lamar Jackson, this preseason once again, we're going to see his developmental just continue to grow thing timing in and out of the huddle at more times. The other thing you know that they're going to run our appeals run, pass options, and you wanna see him really take control and have that leadership of that group. I know for me as a fifth round draft, pick not having the spotlight on me on me like Lamar Jackson, how difficult it was to come into the preseason game, not because it's your only game, but when you're coming out of college, you're used to rolling right out of locker room plane the first half leading. But in that whole first half, you're sitting back, you're getting cold, you're watching everybody and all of a sudden you're supposed to hit the switch in the second half and say, this is my team now and I need to take over. That's what I wanna see out of him come the week, two of the preseason. You gonna practice players. You were game player who you game? I was as good as practices that wasn't a game. That's the only way you could do it. He got to be. Thank you for listening to the first things.
