Fresh update on "lamar jackson" discussed on Bet The Board

"To Derek Henry, the guy had a 190 yards after first contact. The Texans got steamed part of it was the quarterback change. But Houston's responsible for some of this. There's no doubt. I mean, I'm not absolving Houston in this. I mean, put 13 people in the box, put your cheerleaders out there, your front office, do something to slow him down. Add another human. Another life form into the box. But the Texans came in third worst in defense of Russia efficiency. They were down two starters along the D line. I think you just question what the heck lobby Smith was doing. And I know by percentage people will look at it and see Derek Henry went against a loaded box at the third highest rate and it sounds fine. Once it's obvious, Malik Willis can't complete the forward pass. Why isn't that number 80%? How could the defensive game plan be anything other than playing press man and having 8 guys in the box virtually every snap? And that just wasn't the case. I've seen the Titans weapons on the outside. I might play ten men in the box and dare Malik Willis to complete a pass more than 5 yards downfield. Probably not a bad approach, especially yesterday, what do you have 55 passing yards? Yeah, it wasn't good. It wasn't good bob, that's for that's for damn sure in terms of what he did, but they get a big win in the division and the Titans of course will be featured prominently under the bright lights at arrowhead. This coming Sunday. Other good. I love that I've got you to start quoting a show that you have not yet. Oh, I know, that's what makes it even better. But I do have it on the short list of shows that I will watch once the NFL season comes to an end. I took your advice. It may have taken me three months to get all the way through Sons of Anarchy. But yet again, you do not let me down. So I have mad men on the list. It will be watched, and I know the listeners who are out there shaking their head right now and consternation can point a finger at me, call me an idiot and tell me what I'm missing with that particular program. Yeah, mad men's a little bit different, but it's fantastic. So that'll go on the watch list to end football season. All right, moving on. Would you like to go? Other good that you had, I have a couple running backs that I want to mention as well, but I want you to take the floor. I think what's interesting here is sometimes by Monday morning, the Thursday game is so far removed from your mind. You forget about it. But I was really impressed with the mar Jackson in the second half. Think about what we've discussed over the last handful of weeks because we've been trying to figure out why Lamar and the ravens are struggling late in games. And the only thing that we could really come up with was fatigue. Lamar just has to do everything. Whether it's the run game, whether it's the pass game, and he was just doing so much. And then potentially defenses adapting and Greg Roman not making those halftime adjustments. But on a short week, with travel, specifically Lamar Jackson, outstanding against the Buccaneers in the second half, 71% passing success rate, 0.91 EPA per play for Lamar over that stretch, right? Of all the quarterbacks to play in week 8, Lamar Jackson number one and second half EPA plus completion percentage above expectation. I was really impressed with what Baltimore did started getting the ball out of his hands quickly, letting receivers make plays after the catch, ground game got going. This is really a vital stretch for Baltimore when you think about things in the landscape of not just the AFC, but their own division, creating space and separation in the north. I mean, the ravens right now. 6th easiest schedule from this point forward. Their main competition in Cincinnati fourth toughest. So it's time to make a move for Baltimore. And the ravens as well get a little gift from the scheduling guts. I mean, after that game on Thursday night against Tampa, they play one game over a 23 day stretch, I believe, is what the math works out to, which is absolutely unprecedented. So if Lamar showed any fatigue, this is the time you sit in the cold tub, you go through your massage therapy and you get yourself ready to go for a second half of the schedule that as you mentioned is extremely available for the taking for Baltimore to make a little bit of hay. Running back in the other guys offensively. Get angel a little bit dinged Gus Bateman running back there from Ohio State whose name is escaped my mind. Yep. Dobbins. There you go. Yep. So, I mean, there's a lot to be excited about four Baltimore team who, again, you look at their record and go, man, this team could actually be undefeated if they held on to double digit leads, something they've been extremely proficient in doing with Lamar's leadership so far. So I mentioned Derek Henry, I want to throw a couple other running backs out there and it's part of the reason when you do all of this, you talk about running backs being a dime a dozen. And I know that doesn't always translate from a fantasy football perspective to the way that you go, man, you know, I lose Christian McCaffrey, others Jonathan Taylor to top my lineup. I'm never gonna be able to refill that productivity, not the same for NFL teams. Deontay forman steps in as RB one for the Carolina Panthers in the wake of the Christian McCaffrey trade. Gained a career high, 87 yards after contact scores three touchdowns in his first start of the season. Foreman is now gained a 175 yards after contact over the last two weeks trailing only Derek Henry and Tony Pollard in that span, and I may as well mention Tony Pollard as well. We've been banging the drum for this guy to be featured more in the cowboys offensive attack. 15 touches nearly a 150 yards and three touchdowns, 64 rushing yards over expected his most in a game over the last three seasons. And when you look at Paula, he's gained a 192 rushing yards over expectations, the third amongst running backs. And I'll throw one more in there for Chicago Bears fans out there. Maybe eventually the bears will realize that Khalil Herbert is the most dynamic option they have in the backfield. It's not a knock on David Montgomery. It's just facts. Dante forman was wildly efficient again yesterday. And he made comment about how much him and CMC got along, but this is a business. This is a profession, and this is a guy who's been cast in out of the league for small stints. And he said, this is my opportunity to step up and prove to guys that I belong in this league and sure enough, that's what he's done the last two weeks. Taking the bull by the horns. And he is really helped this Carolina offense. When you think about PJ walker, certainly made a fantastic throw late in that game, which patty mahomes tweeted about and said was the best throw of the season thus far. But guys were wide open in that secondary and as many passing yards as PJ walker had his completion percentage was nearly 11% below expectations. Getting that ground game going. And quietly, the one thing that we thought this offense didn't the off season was improved the row line. Added a couple guys drafted another and they're starting to get some real push up front. Yeah, man. What could have been for the Carolina Panthers in that spot? But we'll get to why that game unraveled late even with the ridiculous throw that PJ walker made to DJ Moore streaking down the sidelines. Other good that you wanted to highlight, I have one thing left on my list, but I want to make sure we don't leave any stone unturned. I think you have to look at the forty-niners. There's one other one I have after this.

"lamar jackson" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show

"The things like that and I feel like that helped me out a lot. Lamar Jackson Baltimore Ravens quarterback here on the rich eisen show. And then this off season non playing season. You're getting together with your guys. What was that about? Can you tell me some of the off season stuff that you've gotten to see the fruits of that labor already through the first 8 weeks of the season? Lamar? Yeah, just trying to build chemistry as much as much as we can before the season kick off and what it was Super Bowl week. I don't know if it was after the Super Bowl or right before me payment Richard Bateman changed facility without encounter with me. We was working out there, then I went to Florida. Benjamin, it was where we was with me. I had some other receivers. God got some of my hometown and guys who was from my high school playing with miss well. Just ripping them things like that and I feel like you know, we just got to keep going because of seasons, not over. Okay, season is not over. That's for damn sure, and you got yourself a game against the saints here. And so before we get into the game with the saints, let's jump into it Lamar Jackson here on the rich eisen show with your off season. Was it difficult for you to negotiate a contract while you were getting ready for a season? Yourself, Lamar? Not really. Not for me, it wasn't because I knew what I was looking for, you know, I know I was going to focus on the season when the time was right. And that's just what it was. And is there anything you could add to just the national conversation that's still going on? I'm sure you're aware of it Lamar about what you were looking for. What were you looking for from the ravens that you didn't hear? Yes. I was just looking for basically you know how they said it was surface mandatory. Those guys put it out there. You know, what I was looking for. So I don't think I need to take it back. You know, that was already out there. Like I said, at the beginning of the season, I was talking about it. So I'm not going to just talk about it now. Okay. And in terms of the here and now for you, the concept of you representing yourself, is there anything you want to say to people who criticize you for that, Lamar? Why are you representing yourself and you don't have an agent that is a conventional agent to help you out with this? This is me and my situation, you know, not knowing what else is situation. No, I don't worry about them I'm giving them pain on what they should do what they situations, you know. And just so I mean, did you get dive into and figure out like cap ramifications and things like, I'm not a math guy. I couldn't do it. I'll tell you that right now. Honestly, I'm more verbal. That's why I do what I do right now. You know I have people in my corner, you know who want to help me out with things like that if I don't see things the way they might share or if I need if I need a question on certain terminology or something like that. I have guys that back me up on that. So I feel like I was pretty good. And then, you know, Lamar, do you walking off the field in Tampa off of that big win on Thursday night? You grabbed a sign from a fan that's to pay the man. And folks see that and think that you're carrying with you maybe a chip on your shoulder against the team and that potentially this could be a final run for you, obviously they're still franchise tags and things of that nature. Are you are you going through your business with that mindset this year? Lamar? I'll be honest, no, I wasn't. The sign just happened to fall, you know, I think it's not for us. I was just picking it up. I thought somebody was just dropping the sign. I've seen, I just started and I just signed a fourth line. It could have just said go ravens and you'd have done the same thing. Is what you're saying? Okay. And then betting on yourself, walk me through that process. I've done that a couple of times in my career, not to say that I also have your similar skill set. That's why I talk about stuff for a living, but what is there your mindset on that betting on yourself like that, Lamar? I mean, so I know my words, you know, I know what I bring to the table. I feel like I'm a fair player, you know? That's about it. And throughout my life, you know, I always better to myself, you know, I feel like I better myself going through, you know what I went through, my rookie season, or the running back and stuff like that, or you know, whatever, whatever else, the niche is a better life, and I feel like it's going pretty well for me. I got God on my side, so. Lamar Jackson here on the rich eisen show. Okay, the saints just shut out the Raiders. What do you see on film already that leaps out at you? That's a challenge for you on Monday night, sir. You know what I'm saying? I can't join those guys, you know? Tyrann Mathieu know addition to their defense. God's flying around to the ball. Looking at physical NFC team. Has you ever played a game in the Superdome before? I'm just going to throw that one out there. Have you played one? I heard it's pretty loud. Oh, you played in loud places before, but I'm just I'm sure you've watched games in the Superdome growing up. I'm sure you watch some big college football games while you were at Louisville. I don't know if there's any sort of meaning for you to go into this building in Louisiana and try and show off your craft here at all. Yeah, you know, just going to tell us. That's how, you know, I never really had a fair share of being in the stadium. Like that. Okay. And it's loud. I mean, it is loud. What's the loudest stadium you've ever played in? Jackson. What's the loudest stadium you've ever played in? What is that? Yeah. And I feel yeah. Yo, college too. Give me a college one. That too. I feel like I feel like Clemson in Houston was pretty loud in college. And they used to? Arrowhead with arrowhead what arrow had be in the pros? What about that? In Kansas City, what about that? It's pretty loud, but I wouldn't say that's a lot of state in my opinion. I really don't know, NFL. I don't know. Okay. The bank went crazy the NFL, so you know it's pretty fair. Most of the teams who are facing them have out loud fans so I don't really know. The bank is definitely open when you're doing their thing for the ravens, you know? The bank is open. Are you talking openly Super Bowl in your locker room? Lamar, you talk. Is that a way that you talk and lead at all? Lamar Jackson? You can say that because that's everyone's goal. I feel like if you playing this game, that's a goal. And you know, we always got to throw that out there, but even though we focus on the task at hand, you know, the next opponent and you know, we're taking it a play out of time, but we know what's in the back of our mind at the end of the day, you

"To get started. So Connor, I have invited some guests onto our show. What? Yeah, so here's the thing. You and I, we often partake in. I think a certain brand of nonsense. And that's especially true when it comes to the business of sports. I mean, we've tried it, we're just kind of firing off against nonsensical takes, though that is kind of our brand. But it's been like two years that we've been doing the show together. And I think it's time to finally bring some smart people onto the show, people who know what they're talking about maybe when it comes to the business of sports. And sort of get their takes. And maybe inform our audience and make everyone a little bit smarter than they are listening to us every week. We're taking a major risk here by exposing our audience to intelligent discourse because then if they know it that sounds like they might not come back, but let's give it a shot. Let's try. Even worse, these guys have their own podcast. But we're going to do it. We're going to do it. Please welcome to the show. The host of sports trades new businesses sports podcast, the bag. This is Lindsey McCormick and Rashad Jennings. Guys, thank you for joining us. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Glad to be here. So let's start with this because this is a story we talked about a little bit. And while deshaun Watson's contract was probably the business story of the off season, I think that the Lamar Jackson sort of saga here with his second contract negotiation, that's kind of like the biggest unresolved business of football story. We have going on right now. And number one, as I said, you guys can talk about this more intelligent than we can. But especially you were shot being the guy who at one point represented himself similar to what Lamar is doing right now. I just kind of wanted to open the floor and just say, can you guys give us some good takes on this? What should we think of this? Should we be sad? Should we be happy? Should be frustrated. How should we feel about Lamar Jackson, who we love as a player? I think Lamar Jackson is definitely in a position where he should be getting paid. MVP, once in a lifetime type of. Well, he's generational talent for sure. And there isn't any quarterback that is comparison to him and what he's been able to accomplish in his short period of time. And he's been the backbone of that team. He deserves to get paid. I understand, obviously, coming from a standpoint of the worrisome of paying a player that is mobile, especially at that position and he takes it some hits, but he's obviously Sean he's been pretty durable throughout his time. However, you know, it's business. Nobody, nobody wants to pay anybody if they don't have to. It's kind of one of them things I can't stand for somebody to say. How much do you want to pay for this? I don't want to pay anything. Seriously, if you give me an answer, I think you're weird. So it's like he was such a budget. That's your price. And let's move forward. But I think he's going to get paid.

"Second, you know, him being a human come first. Remember, they wanted a world championship. In a pandemic with no preseason. Yeah. So Tom's gonna be fine. Yeah, Tom is always going to be okay with football. The thing that is not always promised is time and family, as we know, is always first for Tom Brady, especially at this point in his career. The only thing I think that is concerning at this point is not having his presence there at training camp, especially with the injuries that they've adored and a lot of the wide receivers that are not going to be out on the field right now losing his center. Besides that and not having everyone kind of live up to that Tom Brady effect when you have them in the room and you have them on the field, that's the concerning part. Other than that, Tom's going to be fine. He's always going to be fine. He is the greatest of all time in that position. Hopefully everything's okay, and hopefully it's not a medical emergency with his family. That's just at this point. You just hope it's okay, and he comes back in good spirits and happy and then you can move on. As you mentioned, maybe even take some time off in the middle of the season. It's Tom Brady, why not? All right. We'll move on a lot of star quarterbacks are sitting out week one of preseason, including Tom Brady, Russell Wilson dak Prescott, Josh Allen. But don't count Patrick Mahomes as one of them as Andy Reid announced all four chief quarterbacks will start a quarter of tomorrow's preseason opener against the bears and here's mahomes on playing in the preseason. Yeah, I mean, I like to get in there. Like, one time. So once you get hit one time, you kind of see what it is to get hit again as a quarterback. I feel like after that, you're good to go, but it'll be good to get in there with the new group of receivers that we have. All the running bags and kind of show how we do it in the game because obviously we're doing it here at practice. But the show how we do it in the game before that first game against Arizona, who's a great opponent. I think it will be good for us. Yeah, if you want, it's really for years, Brady played in the preseason. Yeah. Aaron doesn't want to, but I kind of think it's useless, but if I do think there's a handful of players, like Daniel Jones last night, 13 plays a field goal against the Patriots second team, I think upstairs, there's value you're seeing what he can't do. I also think if you're a borderline guy, like I don't think the jets are going to be very good, but I think if Zach Wilson lights it up in the preseason and they don't win games, that helps Zach Wilson's reputation. You can say, you know, maybe it's not Zach Wilson, it's the people coaching Zach Wilson. I think you get wins wherever you can get him as a player. And if you need to show off a little exhibition football games, wherever it is, those are wins. That stuff sticks in people's mind. Dak Prescott won a nation of fans of an exhibition game. I think it was in LA at the coliseum against the rams. He had a great first couple first half for the cowboys, and at that point it had Romo was still part of the organization. It had huge impact cowboy fans saw that as the next chapter of a preseason game. And I remember I was like, folks, it's pre season that doesn't matter. It did to people in Dallas. It did to Jerry. It did to Steven Jones. It did the Jason Garrett. It was the bright lights of LA. So the idea there's no value in preseason. You can win a room off big preseason performances. And a lot of players need pre season. I don't know if Patrick Mahomes is one of them, but he's played in every preseason game minus COVID 2020 when it was canceled, and there's no other way to get in game shape than actually playing a game. And he wants to get hit. All right, Alex for the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd lie new. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays at noon eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. On Fox Sports radio, FS1, and the I heart radio app. Hey, I'm Doug gottlieb, the podcast is called all ball. We usually talk all basketball all the time, but it's more about the stories about what made these people love their sport, and all the interesting interactions along the way. We talked to coaches. We talked to players. We tell you stories. You download it, you listen to it. I think you like it. Listen to all ball with Doug olive on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or ever you get your podcasts. Hear that. That's the sound of a patient whose health data is protected from a cyberattack. And that, that's the sound of a financial system that's digitally secured from bad actors. Right now, there's an invisible war being fought on a digital battlefield that impacts what we do every day. That's why it periton, we do that can't be done to help protect the vital systems we rely on because if we don't, the alternative is unimaginable. Periton. For endless hot water that is easy on the environment, go tankless. At tankless made simple dot com, it's navy and so I saw this this morning that Lamar Jackson contract situation, his mother, Felicia, is his agent, which is different. But he is asking for a fully guaranteed deal. This is what was never even really asked for before deshaun Watson. This is the new world, and I would pay Lamar Jackson pretty much whatever the market bears. It is interesting. Let's say they didn't pay him and he went to the market. You'd have to go get Lamar Jackson, but it would be fascinating. He's a unique player who has to be kind of uniquely coached. That's okay. I think people forget how much he wins. So let's just forget Lamar Jackson. I'm just going to say there's a quarterback. He's a rookie. His franchise is 20 and 20 in their previous four games. They start him in week 11 as a rookie. He goes 6 and one. He's the only difference in the team. He wins 6 of 7 games. The next year that player's MVP, the next jury goes 11 and 5 wins a playoff game. He's 24. And then last year, he's leading the division is a number two seed in the superior AFC gets hurt and the season's over. Nobody's ever won this fast this much. This is not baseball where we glamorize history. It is not the NBA where you can be a losing player, but Carmelo is still going to go in the Hall of Fame. Carmelo Anthony. In football, it is winning. That's why Philip Rivers through fewer interceptions than Eli Manning had more passing touchdowns more passing yards, but didn't win enough big games. And so Eli is considered a Hall of Famer and you suggest that with Philip Rivers and people roll their eyes at you because that's what football is about. Fools about winning games. It's why I'm a fan of Garoppolo. I'm a fan of Kyler Murray. I'm a fan of Lamar Jackson. Too often we're looking for the perfect quarterback. Does Lamar play better with a lead than behind? So does everybody, including Aaron Rodgers? Yes, but I did think he took a big leap. He has 6 fourth quarter comebacks in his career. He had two entering last year. So he clearly is a quarterback is getting better playing later from behind. I don't think he's Josh Allen. I don't think anybody in the world except Patrick Mahomes looks like Josh Allen. But if you just, if I just told you there was a quarterback that took over a franchise that was in the middle of a 20 and 2040 game slog. He stepped in at quarterback, only difference goes 6 and one to MVP to 11 and 5 in a playoff win to leading the division gets hurt. You'd be like, of course you're going to sign a people want to put everybody in a box and he's just a different player. He's a unique player who has to be uniquely coordinated. He has more wins before 25 than any player ever. In fact, remember how good Big Ben and the Steelers were

"He have to be? Because I know what I get from pulisic. I don't know what I get from him. So I would say the question about freya is an interesting one, because you could say, who's the most important player to the U.S. having some success? I could name pulisic. I could name mckenney. I could name Tyler Adams. But Ferrera, and it doesn't just have to be goals with him. This was a game he actually scored four goals in a match against Grenada. But the job of the center forward and Greg berhalter's system. And this is why you have to trust Greg berhalter that he's doing the best that he thinks for the team with the personnel he's got. That position oftentimes you drop a little bit deeper, you try to bring defenders with you to open up space in behind for pulisic for aaronson for Tim wea. So it doesn't always have to be about the goals in the system that we play. France won the World Cup in 2018. Do you know how many goals their striker Olivier Giroud scored in that tournament? Zero. Not a single goal from the number 9 position. So I know we scream and yell and we think, hey, strikers have to score goals. They can do a lot if you have the pieces around that can produce. Our most talented players, as you know, are in the wide areas. We have depth beyond belief we can rotate geo Rena and pulisic and aaronson all these guys. The number 9 position though, you have to be effective, either scoring goals or holding up the ball linking up play. And that's why Ferrer is in the lineup. Not because I think Gregg thinks this guy's going to score 6 goals. Yeah, I don't think the team's complete yet. They can tweak it up until like, yeah, up until the very end. I'm 26 this time as well, the roster. Do you think I don't think it's done yet? No, I mean, September, we're going to find out. We got two games left. The last two games you're going to see the U.S.. We have the game against Saudi Arabia, which will be the last two friendlies. And you're going to get a look, I think you might see this guy Vasquez who scored 14 goals in MLS, striker is a position of your red hot and you got that hot hand. You might work your way into the roster. Okay, it really is amazing. So you got pulisic 23, played Chelsea. You got McKinney's 23 Juventus Sergio desk 21 Tyler Adams 23. He's trying to make me feel old. But I'll throw this at you. And when we went to Brazil, the conditions were daunting. And I think there's an argument to be made, Qatar, it's going to be really warm. And I do think it benefits our youth, we're going to be young, fresher legs, my guess is we're kind of built for these conditions or am I being too patriotic and optimistic? You're right. I mean, one of the interesting things you're going to see in Qatar is these air controlled climate controlled stadiums with these big fans that blow on the field and it was amazing during the summer, it was a 110° out. They played a game inside the stadium, a player took a selfie with a thermometer, and it showed that the temperature on the field was 65°. So it was about a 40° difference from outside to end. Actually, during the winter, the temperature is going to be about LA's in the 70s. One of I think an area where the United States can have a real edge is in sports science and the fact that we invest a lot of money in that. I went to the U.S. practice in Kansas City and they call them red hats, a red shirt 'cause there was the staff around. There was more staff than players. And I'm talking physiotherapist, sports science sports scientists and tracking data and the rest and recovery for these guys. This is going to be the first World Cup where teams do not have to travel outside of one single city. So you're going to go to a game, you're going to come back. You're going to go to a practice you're going to go back. You'll be in the same hotel the entire time. So that means the U.S. is loading up with a game room. They're going to have, you know, all the stuff that these kids, these 20 year olds want. They have xboxes and PlayStations and rest and recovery centers. Hypothetically, chambers. I mean, the U.S. is going to throw big money at that to ensure that they can maybe find an edge that other teams don't have when it comes to investment in that stuff. I think that's where we can find an edge. The world cup for the uninitiated here is a little like two tournament. You have group stage. So our group is England, arguably the best team. I don't think they'll win it. It's England. They're going to expect to win it, but I don't think they will, but I think they're really talent. I think they can play with anybody. And then we have Iran and then Wales, Wales is viewed as the smallest. It's the weakest team. They have one great player, right? Okay, so my feeling is the World Cup becomes two tournaments. There's group stage. I feel like we're the second most talent team. I think we get out of the group stage. Realistic, realistic, and that should be the baseline expectation. Every single World Cup and I would have said that before, but then we didn't qualify for the World Cup. Right. So Greg berl halter again, he was talking to you. He said, we view this as two tournaments. You get through the group stage. It's kind of a slog it out and you find your way, you manage the three games, you're probably rotating lineups to get the best versus each team, your first game is the most important. And then I think Greg, and I would agree. The last game against Iran is also a game you view, we need points out of that one. England, we go in and we try and run it up, and that's the team that we're going to finish first or second. And it will determine who we get in the second match, which would be us paired with the host group, which is Qatar, Ecuador, and then you have the Netherlands in there as well. And I think Netherlands is the team you would want to avoid out of those and maybe you get Ecuador. Netherlands, I think they're back this year. They didn't qualify for the last World Cup. They were in the final in 2010. It should be noted. We all, we all get anxiety, last World Cup, who didn't get Italy didn't make it. Netherlands didn't make it. Think about Italy. How big saw career is. So by the way, Germany's had downswing. Two straight world cups for them. Crazy. So this is not, I really do feel like if you're a soccer fan or me, a casual as I would be called by you indie rocker. But I do believe this is exciting because I feel like there was the Kyle wrote junior stage of soccer where we couldn't compete. Guys didn't play internationally. Then there's the Stu Holden Dempsey. Alexei lawless, some of our guys do play internationally, may not star, but they play. Now we're getting guys that go internationally and are viable scores, stars, stars. Yeah. Those are the three stages in my life. Now, I do not, I think the next World Cup is the one where I sound so patriotic here. I think we're about four years away just an experience, but I think we get out of the group stage. I think we win a game out of the group stage. And I think we're really viable. That is my hope. Again, how does it land for you? What will you see that will concern you? If you see something early and go, uh oh, what would it be? So the game against England is a game where we're going to find out a lot about day after Thanksgiving. Yes, the day after Thanksgiving on probably the best lineup of sports television sound like a company man now, but we're going to have the cowboys Thursday. And then Ohio State Michigan on the Saturday. So look, I think what I worry about with this team is that they are so young. They're fearless. They don't know what they don't know until they see it. And we're going to find out when those bright lights go on and you're on the World Cup and you're the big stage against the Welsh team that is competent. They had a good run at the Euros, not the 2020 version, but the one before that in 2016. And I just, I hope, and I don't believe it is going to be this way, but I hope that I see that look in those eyes that the guys that we belong here. And we're not happy to be here and be happy to be back in the World Cup. And we're these young guys and we play it big clubs, but we're not expected to go far. I think this team when you get to the knockout stages and you get rolling, you pick up some momentum, they have players that play against the best players in the world weekend week out at Barcelona at Chelsea at brucea Dortmund, et cetera. So we have talented players as a team collectively. Did they believe in themselves? And did they not make those little fine margin mistakes at the back or at the goalkeeping position where we might have a little bit of inexperience or guys that aren't playing regularly. That's the thing that concerns me a little bit. As a team ever won the World Cup with poor goaltending. Has anybody ever been bad in the net and you don't have to be great? I'm trying to think here. France had Hugo lauris, Germany had Manuel Neuer 2010 Spain, Devi, I believe it was or E care Casillas. No, I would say

"To talk about a few things on this show. We got some NBA labor stuffed heads going on. I want to get to the top on Disney and Spencer talked about it a little bit. But that Lamar Jack, that Lisbon Lamar Jackson, not in the list of top ten quarterbacks. I mean, it blew my mind just a little bit because I think part of what gets me when this happens, especially with quarterbacks. And I get it with every other position. Every other position doesn't really have ups downs, ups downs, right? Like when a guy has a bad season, that means a worse season is coming after and worse was coming afterwards was coming after. But quarterbacks, there tends to be a little up down, right? There's a lot more that goes on a lot more circumstances. And I'm like, okay, so even if you think Lamar Jackson was bad last year, which I do not because I remember when he was carrying that team early and we were legitimately talking about him as an MVP candidate and then the injuries to him caught up to the injuries to everybody else and then they didn't win. But man, I'm looking up at that list, and I'm like, y'all got Joe burrow number 5, which feels a little bit premature, though I understand why you might do this. You got Justin Herbert over this man. I just had a whole lot of y'all already forgotten like that fast? Yeah, I bet recency bias is outrageous, but I mean, that's the magic of a list. You know, it works every time. It works every time. And this is the time of year where we love these lists. And it is confirmation bias, they don't believe it, they don't want it. So many people, they don't want it to be true, and they don't believe that it can be true. And so when they get an opportunity because you're right, he was, we were talking about him as MVP and his numbers weren't MVP numbers, but if he was watching them games, you saw what happened. And he doesn't get the credit for making people around him better. That's something that we say about quarterbacks. And we say it about them without anything tangible. So it's like, he makes everybody around him better. And like maybe it's true of Brady because when Brady shows up, you practice a little harder. 'cause you know that Tom Brady is there. But Brady's ability, there's nothing that he does on the football field, like physically, that we can point to. Making good decisions, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But Lamar Jackson, once he steps out there, everybody's job gets easier. And it's not just the guys on his side of the ball.

Well, Jeff, the other big questions surrounding Lamar Jackson right now is his contract extension. He's currently up for an extension and you'd think with his track record, the ravens would have locked him up by now, but that hasn't happened. So what do you think is holding up a deal between the two sides? Yeah, it's such a complicated process for so many reasons. One, they don't have any salary cap space. Now there's ways to structure the deal where it won't have as big as impact on the current salary cap. You know, future sauerkrauts, they're not worried about. They're going to figure that out for Lamar Jackson. But right now they just have no wiggle room. I mean, they've been keeping 51 guys, too fewer guys in the roster, just to save money. Two, Lamar Jackson represents himself. And they respect him for it, but these contract negotiations can kind of get sensitive and you don't want to offend the face of your franchise and you're starting quarterback, though it's a tough spot. They've tried to be as upfront as possible. General Maduro Eric dacosta has met with them to talk about different things. We've got a great relationship. He's got a great relationship with this organization. He's a very easy person to talk to. And certainly deserves a contract. He has played phenomenal football over the last couple of years. And our intention and my intention is to keep him in Baltimore for many, many years. And they've made it clear this is going to get done. What they have said is both sides are being patient with it. They're prepared to be patient. I'm really focused on the season, you know, I'm focusing on trying to win. I'm not really right about it, if it get done this year or next year, you know, I'm just trying to be on the stack and we're going to see. I just think they see it as a formality that he's going to be their quarterback for many, many years. So they really don't feel a sense of urgency like you'd think they would, given his contract status and given his stature as rising stature in the game and the ravens are a team that once allowed Joe Flacco to kind of bet on himself and not sign a contract before his final year and he went out and led the team to Super Bowl and they wanted to have to give him a lot more money because of it than they normally would have if they got on the contract negotiations earlier. But if that's the deal with Lamar, I think that's a problem, they'll deal with. If they have to pay him a little more because he takes them to his Super Bowl. As you mentioned, the ravens are even more dependent on Lamar Jackson this year because they've been absolutely ravaged by injuries. Now they're currently at the top of a very tough AFC north, but is there concern that the sheer number of injuries they've suffered could come back to haunt them at some point? Yeah, I think they're realistic about where they're at. They haven't even played a division game yet and we all know how tough the AFC north is any of those teams can win. They play the bangles very soon, but then after that, all their divisional games are in their last month and a half of the season. So the big thing with the injuries, it's left them with not a whole lot of margin of error. The popular saying is always next man up. But what happens if the next man is already hurt? So now you're already on your third or fourth string guy, and they've dealt with that. Every week, they kind of piece it together as best as they can. But it's the reality in the NFL. They've gotten hit harder than anybody this year. I think they have about 17 guys on IR, which is unbelievable. This stage of season. But it's not an excuse, it's just reality. And they've champion all the time about how they have such a deep roster. And this is when you have these injuries. This is your opportunity to show it. Lastly, Jeff, our colleague, Mike sando, pulls coaches and GM strength, all the quarterbacks coming into the season. This year, Lamar Jackson was ranked as a tier two quarterback. Basically, the guys below the mahomes, Rogers, Wilson level. What do you think Jackson needs to do for the rest of this year to vault himself up to that level in the eyes of people around the league? I think he's doing it in a lot of ways. You know, he's need to show he can beat teams with his arm. He needs to show he can lead, comebacks, and he can still win games when the ravens bread and butter is getting taken away. And we've already seen that. And I think he'll have to continue to prove that, especially again, as they play against better defenses in a bigger games down the stretch. But the other thing about it, and it's just a reality, fair or not. Some people will not believe in a quarterback until he leads a Super Bowl run. You know, don't necessarily have to win, but he has to have more playoff success than he has. So I think for him to completely make believers that he even the doubters that remain, I think it's going to have to be done in January in the playoffs. I'm trying to win a Super Bowl. MVPs and stuff like that haven't win a record. So that's cool, but I want to bring in my body and myself, then I can sit back when I have grand kids and stuff and be like, yeah, we did that and talk my trash off over his dude. Well, thank you so much for breaking all of this down, Jeff. All right, it's great talking to you. Thank you for having me. "The ravens plan to do before the season even began? Yeah, that's a great question. And I do think it's a combination of things. This is a team that's lost in the divisional round two years in a row. And they have not been able to make enough plays downfield to win in the playoffs. Things get tighter and teams honing on your weaknesses and take away a little of the run. They've not been able to get it done. They worked all off season on trying to become a more dangerous offense downfield that was not just the coaches. It was Lamar and the receivers and all that. And they knew they were going to have to be that offense. And that's what they've been working on. So we're seeing some of the results. But yeah, like you said, a lot of it's been necessity. I mean, they just haven't been able to control games with the running games like they have in the past. So I think in a sense, what we've seen now is a good sign that they've been able to win when people have taken away what they've done in the best. So, you know, if you're looking for a silver lining for them, not running the ball that well. They've been able to put this new passing game to the test. And as of now, it's past all the tests. While a passing game that really stood out and the next game that we want to talk about was Jackson's epic comeback performance against the colts and week 5, one of the criticisms that come up the most with Lamar Jackson is that he can't bring his team back from behind, and he obviously did that in the colts game. What do you think has been the difference for him in situations where he has to dig his team out of a hole like that? Yeah, and he has three comebacks in the fourth quarter of this year and that's something everyone said he couldn't do. You know, I think the improved personnel around him, their improvements that they're receiving core has really been a significant reason for that. Jackson for duvernay to catch in the first down gain of 15. This is a formation they love to get in three by one and you're gonna see the number three receiver just runs a crossing route and this is something you'll see. Marquise Brown run these routes, you'll see duvernay run it and duvernay has started to pick up his face. Nice throwing catch. You know, they went three receivers throughout that game down the stretch against the colts because they need to score quickly and that never was kind of a formation that they used to use because they were running team and they didn't really have the strength with the receivers to do that. Their ability to do that and put more talented receivers on the field has made them a more dangerous team down the stretch of games. Lamar loads up for Marquise Brown. Makes it look easy for 43 Greece. They go right over bothe keys for the touchdown. First, but you know, the biggest part is he's just in control of this entire offense. He's much more comfortable in those situations. He's confident in himself. And he is mechanics are better. It allows them to put the ball more places that could result in the ravens making big plays downfield. Lamar steps and throws finds Brown in a seam and he's down at the 12th game of 20. I think it's just natural and athletics until you start doing it on the consistent basis and bring the team back and you have proof of that. I think that's when people really start believing and you kind of take it a step further with the respect people have for you.

"Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens just keep winning. Jackson gonna throw. Touchdown. Mark Andrews. After hammering the Chargers on Sunday, the ravens are now 5 and one, and sitting at the top of the AFC standings. Today, the athletics Jeff three Beck on how Jackson has taken his game to a different level this year. And what he still needs to do to silence his doubters. It's just a reality fair or not. Some people will not believe in a quarterback until he leads a Super Bowl run. You know, don't necessarily have to win, but he has to have more playoff success than he has. From wondering in the athletic, I'm Tiffany ocean Shinsuke. It's Monday, October 18th, and this is the lead. Well, Jeff, before this very comfortable 34 and 6 win over the Chargers on Sunday, the ravens have been in some really Epic Games with some wild finishes. What's it been like to be a beat reporter trying to cover these games? Yeah, it's crazy. I mean, first of all, you get the deadline aspect of it, and they've played three games at night. So, you know, I get home by the time I'm done writing. Probably around like two 30 in the morning. And I can't go to bed after this dramatic game. You know, like, and so you wind up staying up for an hour and looking at Twitter and looking at social media and watching some replays of some of the plays that you feel like you missed because everything was moving so fast. You know, it's great though. It's exciting. It's the reason why you want to do this. It's been so electric this year. But each week I keep saying, you know, can we just get an easy game? Can I just get a game where I could start writing in the second half and not have to worry about some dramatic finish that's gonna change around the whole tenor of my story? They are a roller coaster, you know? I think it's kind of the nature of the NFL. And they're good enough to beat anybody, and they're also flawed enough to lose to anybody. So I think that's why you see so many close games they're playing. Well, Jeff, we had you on the show after week one of the 2020 season to talk about Lamar Jackson. In keeping with this brand new annual tradition, let's talk about how Jackson has taken yet another step forward towards superstardom this year. First, can you just give us a sense of how incredible Jackson's been playing this season? Yeah, you know, more than ever, they've needed Lamar Jackson to be a superstar because really they're offensive line is struggled. They lost their three top running backs on the eve of the season and injuries. So they're asking Lamar to be better and to control more than they ever have, and yet he's produced and he's doing it in a completely different manner than what we've seen from him. I mean, 5th and passing Ethan rushing and he entered week 6 with like more total yards than 18 teams by himself. He's always been able to throw the ball. He's just never done it in the way he's doing it now, which is down the field, outside the numbers. He's been consistent. He's been clutch. We're just seeing just his all around maturation as a quarterback and he's been able to beat teams with his arm and that's the thing that people question whether he'd be able to do. Coming into the NFL and even early in his NFL career. Well, Jeff, when we spoke to you last year, you told us how Jackson went through a mental off season to prepare for that year. And didn't spend as much time working on mechanics and things like that. What was his approach to the off season this time around? And how did it differ from 2020? Yeah, you know, he wanted to work on his mechanics a lot more this year and be more consistent with taking shots deep down the field, challenging every aspect of the field. Like everyone always would talk about how, you know, if you shut down the middle of the field and make him throw elsewhere, he's not gonna be successful. Well, he wanted to combat that. People always say you know we throw a short intermediate route and stuff like that. 5 yards in ten yard routes, but we had some chances last year we hit some of them. But we were just trying to be more consistent this year and that's what it was happening. You know, it starts in practice and hopefully it's transition to the game. And he went to work on his throwing motion to be much more consistent with it and his accuracy. And it's kind of started in camp, you know, he had COVID-19 and we didn't see him for the early stages of camp. And so we didn't really see the changes much early in training camp, but it got to a point where more and more, you could see the consistency with how he was throwing the ball. I was working on my footwork. That's a big emphasis for me. You know, just working on my footwork, making sure I stay open for the Balkan drive, you know, so I can put a little tight spiral on the wall. And it is still throws from different angles, you know, he likes the sidearm, but overall his mechanics are much more consistent. And he's kind of committed to mental memory or he's doing it over and over again rather than in the game where you used to see some throws where he clearly didn't have the proper mechanics. Now you're seeing much more consistently deliver the ball with accuracy. So obviously he put in some work to improve his game, but what about Baltimore's front office and coaching staff? Can you tell some of the things they did to help his growth as a passer as well? I think just in general, a the front office surrounded him with better weapons. You know, they went out and signed Sammy Watkins, who was injured now, but he's been a quality receiver so far and they drafted Rashad Bateman and another receiver. And they just made it a point to get more weapons for him in the passing game. And then they also went out and hired a new wide receiver coach in a new pass game coordinator. And I think they've diversified the routes they're running. They're much more attention to detail with the receivers on where they need to be on certain routes and then their quarterback coach James urban has been in Lamar's corner since the beginning. He's been here since the beginning. He's the closest person to Lamar Jackson in this organization. And he's just drilled some constantly on the mechanics, you know, just always constantly reminding him of stuff and watching tape and even the veteran quarterbacks will say, something you have to stay on top of all the time. And I think that's what it is with Lamar. They're just constantly working it and working on him. And doing the things that are going to help him succeed on game days. Well, let's look at how some of that work is actually playing out on game day. Let's start with the ravens week four matchup against the Denver Broncos. This really seemed to be the game where the balls were passing attack took off. So what did Lamar Jackson do well in that game that really stood out to you? Yeah, I think the thing was the Broncos were really one of the first teams to just say, look, we're going to shut down the run. It's hurry. And does not get it. Mike Purcell and a host of others grieving latavius Murray and it's fourth down. We're gonna make him beat us up top. And you know when he threw the touchdown of Marquise Brown where he got behind the defense. That's kind of thing that they haven't done enough in the past. Jackson has time. That was taking a deep shot. Brad is down there and he's got it. What a catch. He saw the maturation of Lamar Jackson, not trying to force it too much. You know, there's been times the last couple of years you see him get frustrated. And then you see a mistake because he's trying to force it. This year more than ever, he's thrown the ball that running backs, which he hasn't done a lot of in the past. He's using all his receivers rather than only throwing to Marquise Brown and Marc Andrews. Jackson, wide open his crochet first down and much more proceeding knocked out by Jackson. What a play on third down a 32 yard pickup. You just see him trusting what he's looking at more and just kind of spreading the ball around more and being willing to take shots down the field. The ravens also struggled to run the ball a bit in that matchup against Denver. As you mentioned, that was part of Denver's game plan. That has kind of been a surprising theme for this team so far this year. Do you think that the lack of a running game partially due to injuries has forced Baltimore to be more aggressive in the air? Or is that something that.

"He can win by throwing. Yeah but like. I feel like i said i feel like he. He puts his team in that scenario where they have to be like that because he runs when he shouldn't run. I remember explicitly. It was a third down in that game in. He ran for for three yards. He had nowhere to go running the ball. He had way better chance throwing the ball but he was really opened. There was people wide open. Mark injures was just on a coral route right there. And you just disregarded and try to run and i'm like yeah i mean well the decision making argument it makes a little sense. I'm not. he's no aaron rodgers thrown the ball. That goes without saying. But i'm not arguing that he's the best in the league but i definitely think he's in the elite here and other than a couple of guys i think you can. He has a good case for being better than any of them in like with their argument with like the braun. And the cavs. i think. That's more russell wilson. I think russell wilson absolutely carrying his team. I don't know i think. If you put other quarterbacks in In the ravens i feel like they would be d says well i mean i feel like lamar. I dunno offenses so tailored for his. Yeah i mean yeah. That's the thing is like they're they're decent with joe flacco but when they have lamar and it was kind of a different thing But i i. Don't i don't know i like i think he's not a russell wilson. I think i definitely lifestyle or values team value to his team. I don't know i. I think he's not a russell wilson. I think that he kind of hurts them in also helps them if he gets. I just think it comes down to his decision. Making with which mainly primarily is like with the running his when he decides sarojini decides to throw. But yeah. I think that because normally with quarterbacks elite quarterbacks they always looked throw it they don't look to run first the and that's what separates them and i i don't know i just feel like if he has his better decision-making than he'll be an quarterback but for now i don't know i don't. I haven't heard time without owner's time to. He's still only twenty four years old so that decision-making could could come. I mean that's a fair knock i. I don't think it takes him out of the elite here but if you're arguing against him that's probably the right thing to point to and i just wanna quickly. We'll probably go into next week but My front runner for mvp right now just in herbert. His carter's is lamar jackson. So there's that. I just want to throw that out there And yeah just you know this hit us up and think think of your opinions on our argument and who had fair argument and i feel like we both had a decent argument. I feel like it could go either. Certainly arguable subject. That's what we gotta keep finding everywhere exactly. I think the next one is justin. Herbert versus patrick mahomes. Which is i'm coming off my stansell juicy though that's the thing coming off my stance a little bit so that chiefs game. I don't think it would have been better. But now it's it has less to do with the chiefs game and more to do with what herbert's doing. It's hard to take anybody over him for the future right now..

"I think there's only like three or four teams that would for sure take their quarterback over lamar jackson. I think the rest are arguable. Or lamar's clear winner. You think think chargers definitely charges charges have so much. Here's the thing injustice. I like to. I like to argue like this instead. Like if you're starting a franchise to win a super bowl in one year so not talking about potential. Yeah how many quarterbacks would you take him because that that disregards team fit. Which i don't want to talk about so i would probably take. I mean mahomes. I think alan is arguable. Herbert is arguable. I really think everybody's arguable except for probably mahomes. No i would take rogers. I would take rogers over lamar but other than those two. i think. Everybody's arguable really and browns fans who say that baker mayfield in the division man. I don't know if anything pisses me off more. I can't lie. Baker is insane. Like you're the you're the negative here. And i think even you can recognize. That's crazy right. Yup okay so anyway. Lamar jackson is an elite quarterback. Okay now you did have a really impressive argument. But i am here to negate that argument and honestly i think when i watch them are i think he he's. He said some up to get these big performances. I think he is the cause of the downfall as well that team. Because he's a ball hog he hogs the ball he. He shouldn't have run it on half of those plays that he did in the game and he only got like sixty yards when they should have been tied right next to him be ended up figuring out that he shouldn't he should be throwing because you have more use of throwing the ball by later in the game and i give him credit for that the end of the game. He figured it out but he seems like he always always tends to run because he gets more recognition from running and he gets more of the fame. Ooh he ran the ball. He got he duke defender. Did you see that like i. And he fumbled on the one yard line. He should have thrown that ball. He should not have. He fumbled at. He gave up a possession. And i think that if he will play a team like the bills or like the chargers or even the browns i think the browns they would have lost game. They definitely if they played the browns in that game they would have lost. There's no i think lamar. His decision making is questionable. There's no doubt that his legs are elite. But i think that. I think his decision making make some not as elite in. I think that is just him. Playing is his decision. Meeting has to be better. And that's what does disciples him from or changes. Like i'm missing the word. That's what separates himself from aaron rodgers and the justin herber and even to shell matsen. I feel like forget about him..

"This is strong opinion sports episode 300 and 85. Oh, man, NFL week two is incredible. Like, so much good football everywhere. I'm really excited to talk about it. I really don't want to waste time. I want to jump in, let's talk about Sunday Night football. So on Sunday Night football, the ravens beat Kansas City, 36 to 35. And geez man, what an awesome game. Really fun to watch. You had two Titans of the football world, Lamar Jackson and it gets Patrick Mahomes. And if you're a football fan, it was kind of everything you could ask for and then Sunday Night football game. Now, I want to talk about the more because Lamar and rough start, he had two interceptions in the first quarter, both of them, by the way, went to tyrann Matthew. One of them went for a pick 6 his first one. Horrible way to start the game by the way, a pick 6, you're down, a touchdown early on. And then you also had a miss early deep down the middle to Hollywood Brown would have been a touchdown, but he threw an inaccurate pass. And so Lamar was just in a really bad spot early on in this game. And what I loved about this game was that Lamar bounced back. He found a way to turn an early start that sucked into a really good football game and ultimately one of his defining moments of his NFL career. Lamar finished with 239 yards passing and a touchdown. He also ran 16 times for a 107 yards and two more touchdowns. Now I will admit Baltimore got some help from Kansas City. There was a throw, mahomes had a really, really bad costly interception in the third quarter where it's one of those places where you got to eat it. He's getting tackled falling to the ground, trying to force the ball into coverage. It's not really open. It's not there. And I know Patrick Mahomes has made all kinds of crazy plays in his career. So he gets a pass to kind of do whatever he wants and freedom to be creative and make mistakes and do this and that. But that was one of the worst interceptions he's thrown in his entire career. And one that I'm sure he would love to have back and unfortunately, it led to a ravens touchdown and then later in the fourth quarter of the minute 20 left, the Raven scored again to take a 36 to 35 lead. Now Kansas City had an opportunity to put together a game winning drive. But they're running back Clyde Edwards hilaire, fumbled and gave the ball away. And that led to one of my I just it's really, really special moment. One of the key plays of this entire game and this really incredible moment where the ravens had the ball and a lead late all he had to do was run out the clock. And I always say that if you want to beat Kansas City, you have to take risks, especially you have to go for it on fourth down. You can not be conservative.

"Have won the game on the road and baltimore hideous to turn over the medium. Talk about mahomes. Just pick with love the guy. That is the dumbest interception i've ever seen. I mean that was the jason that was at saint throw that pick their so. He throws an awful pick. You you have a drive early in the game. they're backed up fox turn thirty eight because he had a bad snap and you have a penalty on top of it. They had opportunities to really put the ravens down and out. It couldn't do it. The biggest one ended with mahomes. Pick dan opportunity to win the game. All likelihood bucker is nails on every field goal. I every february attempts words lara's carrying the ball gets a loaf of bread. He fumbles then and i get. It's hard they shot if they stop them both more going for it. Yes i agree with you pass tuba. And if they don't get that the ten yards to go and kick a field goal. The cheese had chance after chance after chance after chance after chance they blew it and now to me we. We'll tell me point. What do they do coming out of this game. Do they go play the chargers and give a five hundred yards or they go kick los angeles his ass and walk out of their winning thirty eight twenty and you go all right a bad game baltimore you move on to and one who cares. Don't worry about it. And we're off or does herbert throw for four hundred yards and the cheese after score. Forty five point these game. Yeah we got another question this one from from michael brown and maybe this goes to use darling because you already mentioned it. Is it time to end the chris. Jones defensive end experiment now second game. This is first time. Basically in the nfl. Playing against lamar jackson in matt. Remorse said maybe the most complex running offense. He wasn't prepared. It looked like he wasn't ready. It's it's it's too early to make a judgment. I'm not gonna say yet. Cut it. Scrap it moving back to demons of just inside. It's too early first game. He was phenomenal. he took over. He dominated the fourth quarter against the browns was to call to go back inside after back. He's gonna Growing process is going to take time figuring out. He's too talented to athletic. I personally prefer him on the interior but with the lack of talent lack of pressure on a d. end young was needed to put him there. I don't have any problems being the guy. i mean. look to saxons cleveland. I don't like what chris johns like. Every bit of defense night was atrocious. I mean i. I'm not sitting there watching the film you. May you go back and look better or worse happened. As as a unit they get an f minus and they were they were about as bad as you can be and especially when you look the raiders. Defense up front baby up. The ravens did beat him up like kansas city. Could do anything of fry. I'll say the thousand. I don't even care that. They've lost his game in the grand scheme. I really don't i really. I know probably infuriates and people guys get their schedule even with the injuries. that's probably the hardest rogaine. They're gonna play all year. Probably i mean. Maybe the chargers on thursday night later. And you're maybe. I didn't baltimore's tougher. Okay there are other road games. This year aren't anywhere near as hard as this game. You said you're talking washington philly. The raiders the broncos. The bengals cares. Titans maybe it's tough game. I could win their thirteen fourteen games. I really do..

"That was down in tampa bay that that j. maxx right. So you guys like j mac just raining on james wednesday. This wasted run on himself has brought it on himself right. Okay if you're calling plays where you're challenging jameis winston to try to sit those balls into those those pockets and it gets picked off. That's why you had those percentages you either. Choose to take to take the chance or you. Don't take the chats okay. They did not take the chaz lamar jackson. It's not worth risking it with lamar jackson. Now you add these receivers would that tight end and you're able to open this up. Here's some more game for you. You know we're quarterbacks. Love throwing the ball in the scenes in the center of the defenses crossing across those defenses. You want to know the worst place that most quarterbacks throwing deep outs. i don't want to throw the ball deep out. It's a very nerve wracking. Throw to make most guys. Do not wanna make those passes in the mid range too deep areas because it has a very high potential of getting intercepted. Go figure so when you think about what they're doing with lamar jackson. They're keeping within that ten your fifteen max yard radi radius ratio race. Whatever it is. You know what i'm talking about. You want to go too far down to fill get outside of fifteen twenty yard area where he has the vision and he can automatically either deliver the ball or pull it down and run. Those are the things that lamar jackson will be able to do more. Because they're going to open the filled up. There's gonna be more there's windows you break the field into three zones you had this zone over here. Say to the right. The right of use one's own the center zone and the third zone is to the opposite side. Now you break that down and you see how many defenders are in each one of these zones you have windows of opportunity at different levels and each one of those three zones. So when lamar jackson comes into this season he has a guy that can run routes. That's in that that third zone in that first zone and that second zone then now it becomes easier passing opportunity for lamar jackson and it becomes easier forties offense coordinators to put together plays that are gonna work to his advantage into his favor and then he looks like a good passer problem. Lavar is that in the playoffs. Everybody knows what's coming and that's why for three straight years. Lamar jackson has struggled. The offense has been bottled up in the postseason. The cornerbacks come up. And say i dare you. Lamar jackson severi predictable. Hunter is predictable. Runs coming and the defense is bottled up then. The narrative builds well lamar jackson the playoffs. Because they've become so predictable but under the new bateman bateman a lot get far but they do one other note they do really miss hayden hearst. If you remember two years ago they had the two tight end sets was andrews and hearst and they just were dominant then it came to the playoffs and they bottled them up. I i'm optimistic for this year. I have two questions about the offensive line but go ahead. Well lavar hollywood brownwood beg to differ with you. He he complained he tweeted out and then deleted it. He thinks that they should throw more to him. He thinks he's capable of making those catches are. I don't know if he is or not. We have a really saying it but my point is i'm outlook i wanna see. We haven't seen the mar- make those throws so i. I don't know how you can sit here. And say he definitely can make learning because of the improvements that he's made in his passing game just these few years we've seen i mean that's the big question not consistently you heard j. Mac just give the numbers and then when it gets to the playoffs they really go run heavy and become predictable if you can make the throws that time to make them support offs and so we trust and the confidence make the calls are in those moments so you got to keep in mind kenny make the throws consistently or can they get open consistently those are the things when you become predictable. What it is that you're gonna do because you have the weapons you know. Marquees brown can complain all he wants. But if you're the only one out there that can really get open outside of your tight end. There's really nothing to complain about. Because defense is going shale their defenses to be over to stay over top defense him or keep him in front of the defense. It makes it a much easier proposition. That defense team. That's trying to run. Bottling them up and taking away that one real real receiving threat versus having to more threats to that one marquee should have a better year this year. Now he wants to complain this year. Having sammy watkins in bateman out there. Then that's a different story if you wanna say. He can't throw the ball after this season the now. That's a different conversation but until that happens. I've seen lamar make enough throws listen. You never mess up lamar or lebron. You know why. Because i know i'm lavar and most people don't do it the same way they say. Look more in lavar. Lebron whatever it may be. I always get it right and i got this right as well. We'll have a good year all the amount of good he has. He has a good amount of throw it outside if he can do that. Then watch out because obviously that would open up. Even i am optimistic but avar errington note. The ravens had a top ten offense. According to football outsiders all season seventh trailing by a touchdown or more that offense fell down to twenty second now that from behind. He's not good at playing from behind the football. It's not he's not they are not see this. Is you gotta be careful again. Who's the entire the entire lavar yet. But you have to live within the parameters of what your offense is going to provide you if you get behind. You're your year to be able to play fast paced from behind. That's not all on your quarterback. That's all schematics. That's all play call. And that's on personnel. If you don't have the personnel to do that then you're not going to just saying when we talk basketball. If you have a personnel grouping that can shoot threes then then you know what you're going to have to play them differently than if your team that catch shoot. Three's if i gotta play you style that says to me. I got a bottle. You guys up because we got to score two pointers to be able to win this. You're gonna play vastly different. That's your comparison with brooklyn versus the lakers. It's the same thing here you have guys on historically on this ravens team and you can look outside of west out a win flacco. Was there with the titans receivers that he had to throw the ball. When have you ever had a quarterback had success playing in baltimore in the passing game. This is not a quarterback situation. This is an offensive scheme and offense. Identity. this is a team that has has been favorable to the run. They run heavy and they play defense. They're not going to play well.

"Where eagles are struggling. They throw some hurts. Plays in their and success. Have some misfires there. But eventually hurts comes in again he obviously. They're not as good as the ravens word in twenty to twenty nine hundred. We didn't leave them to playoffs but they were kind of in the mixed in by week. Fifteen sixty yeah so The friction was a wooden say like it was nearly to the level that the eagles are experience with whence hurts and and the that saga However word yes As as for. Joe flacco you know. He said he was confident. And i think He he earned a bit of that respective like. I'm still the starter. Like i'm here for a reason and i plan on you know not giving up my position you know. I think it was more of a competitive Vibe than it was Friction but i think there definitely was some like anytime. You are the starting quarterback and your team spends their first round pick or a first round pick on a possible replacement. You're gonna be concerned in a little bit Agitated i think output it Joe flacco in Harsh or didn't like show. Chris criticism publicly Outside of just saying like i. This is my position. I plan on competing for it and it was You know in week one. I believe he threw three touchdowns against the buffalo bills that year and performed a great in a forty seven three blowout to begin the season. So you know. Joe looks very much. Ready to continue competing. Meanwhile lamar jackson needed to get up to nfl speed And that's not due to Is literal running speed. It's studio the mental game in the mechanics game because amar's speed is is among the elite in the nfl. He just had to get in the playbook and and operators mechanics and get him up to nfl readiness. I look at the mar in a tearoom soft when it comes to speed and that dynamics schism at quarterback position. Let me look at tier two. I think jalen hurts is right there similar to a guy who also played in oklahoma. Kyle mary not as murray better quarterback prospect better passer clearly at this stage of their careers. I think they have similar styles and heard a nice blend speed in size played. The cardinals last year had a very memorable run. Where he knows truck stick a bigger goes in for a touchdown and that was one of those moments where he got this guy something. Can he be doug. I can be a franchise. Guys flash pam. How did the ravens are balls. Thereby greg reminiscent Offensive coordinator seen so integral to the success. That lamar had kind of making a unique offense. That's not really seen as much in the pro game college down. i don't mean that an a negative connotation because mara obviously add tremendous trim one of the most accessible college quarterbacks of all time and sometimes you see pro pro coaches little reticent to bring those odds those intricacies to the pro game. It seems that roman did that so well for the mar what do you think how do you think they put him in a position to succeed because he essentially immediately in two thousand eighteen and then runs away with the mvp award the followings. Yeah absolutely once. He joined it on the team. He went to six in one as a starter in the only loss being in overtime loss to the kansas city chiefs the bane of the ravens existence. Right now but more importantly your answering your question. Be significant aspect was the the ability in the unwavering confidence to just switch Schemes they knew. What lamar's Strengths were everybody knows. What lamar art speed agility and acceleration among the best in the world and he does so under center in the gun and the pistol. Whatever what have you. And they also had a pretty staunch offensive line that they could run behind lamar Assuming marshall yondo is still a part of that squad. Far too frequently we've seen plays and All throughout his career of let's run behind number seventy three onto onto hot like that was. That was the running game Help that gus. Edwards was part of that team a perfect complement to lamar speed. And agility is an absolute hammer of a of a heavy running back. That's capable of gaining yards on just about every single kerry. I think just the confidence to do. So and and i like that. You put that switched to a little bit more of a college system in which they're allowing the quarterback to the more mobile they're allowing easier throws in. They're trying to scheme up an easier system for him. As compared to win. joe flacco was under center. I think not having any shame in in doing so is a is a key component there because some people like you mentioned it's not necessarily a negative but you're looked at differently when you include a a lesser system quote unquote and the ravens said. You know what this is going to help us succeed john. Harbaugh was was getting mutterings of being. Let go at season's end with crazy in rodgers absolutely free but they make this switch. They know lamar strengths and they said you know what this is going to make us successful. We have a tough offensive line or a tough ravens team. We are known for playing defense in running the football now. We have an extra mobile player in lamar jackson. Let's utilize these drinks. And they came out. They did so In that is what was so in a rural in getting him going in the. Nfl was they knew his talents. They knew how to execute it. They had the players to do such a scheme and they were already there on the roster and that allowed for such a tr- smooth transition more than anything support for this episode comes from forward..

"Has three championship arguing. Ring rod night. Also garissa paul. Because he's made one nba finals appearance. I don't know how he suddenly jumps into the top five. Were saying you can't late team. Success would individual greatness. We're not going to do that okay. We should great flying. This is the jason right now. nash. I mean i any way you cut it. I can find five guys who have done more either individually or collectively. We go ahead and our because he puts us in a rundown of the second confirmation by you. Got the numbers to support. You want them out. You got the numbers disappointed as well. But i was saying. Is that chris. Paul been so great needs playoffs there. We don't respect that. His points per game actually went up into finals. But now we go slide him his assist or to say but now we go slide him and his three point percentage is even better in the finals and has been arrested away measuring man against themselves. That sounds like greatness to me. It sounds like top five. All time covered up video asphalt. We'll tell you if we like his response. We certainly don't like asphalt best next and we'll see for yourself. I like your saturday man socks battle the yankees plus the giants based apart and astros take on the white sox. Saturday six thirty eastern box box for chip level. Loosens game your show up. Forty water and lamar. Jackson took some heat earlier this week for video. That went viral him. Playing defensive back catching a pass against the teenage fan. Asphalt lamar was called out about football player. Closing in on forty million dollars per year. Should be taking these risks. Just for kicks responded wednesday tweet. It's better to have the kids out there having fun. Playing with guns and bleep next year running it back even more fun. So you like lamar jackson defensive by ask video due and don't okay. I like it. Because i liked lamar jackson as a human being. Do to stay true to himself since day. One like the didn't come in and try to make himself a company man. He didn't shave off the twist at dreads. He didn't come in there and try to go with fresh fade. I know so many. Nfl players have actually done to make yourself more marketable. I've talked several agents about fat several clients. He ain't do that. He didn't come in there and try to change the way he talked to speak to different people differently. No do he came into the league just like he left college same cat. He answers random kids face times audience classroom hops on. I live with kids. Lamar jackson is as real and authentic as they come. Lamar jackson train of thought. Sellers like look is gangs violence when i was growing up sports drugs. Violence and those are the options. I'm trying to make sure they choose. The right option. Like i chose however don't drown yourself trying to save somebody else. Oh i the on car little bit the aspect that i don't like is don't drown yourself trying to save someone else and that's the only potential allama here. Okay because lamar jackson the reason they care to play the game of football with you on the court is because you play the game of football professionally. Because you're lamar jackson unanimous mvp. I could go onto a concrete asphalt court right now and nobody's trying to play which boy wouldn't wasn't all that special lamar jackson. If you cease to be lamar. Jackson a great. Those games are not going to exist as they continue to lamar jackson. Great by getting hurt. It all comes back down to getting kurt. So hopefully we are on the back. End of the cove nineteen pandemic but assuming we are not. We all had to learn that when a loved one contracts the virus do what you can to support him ubereats. Leave him some water outside the door. Leave some food if you need to some flowers a car but you might not want to get into the rule. Massless up close and personal. Because you don't wanna drown yourself you don't want to infect yourself while trying to tend to the needs of somebody else. I love the intention of lamar jackson. Kudos to him for that but in the same breath don't get hurt while trying to do a good deed. i love that take. I love that. Take him a push back after. Get mine out there. You can see where they land homeboy. I love what lamar jackson said. Now wholeheartedly like you said put. Most of me loves what he said. Because i love double down statements. Double down says oh you. You'd hear me the first time we'll let me say again but louder and that's what he did. My floreal take debt. Take that take. And i like that. I don't like clarification statements because we are too damn smart too damn intelligent too damn sophisticated been on this planet to law. Patrick mahomes to be acting like oh you oughta hear me correctly. What i really meant is now. You've meant that the first time you just don't like how we took it. So i like lamar jackson for doubling down. I'm gonna be there again now. Here's the part. I don't like which leads me a little to push back on your take. Let's not act like in. The only options are wake up in the morning. Play on asphalt lamar jackson or go rob and kill somebody who. I hate that because that was the narrative me growing up. And that's why. I had the we leave around narratives around individuals who believed in a stupid narratives that that was the only options we had and i talked to the mayor competent so many times because this was something i wanted to highlight what compton because competition just got glorified and known as synonymous vyas me. You don't mean vice presidents. Come from compton you know. What many chairman. Ceos just managers teachers come from company. And all we know order rappers and a few ballplayers and i was like. That's the same thing that's getting lost is all other avenues. Not just a major boulevards baltimore if you get it but even between how real it is a baltimore. There's a student. There's a kid who's going to harvard. There's a kid who's like look. I'm a walk and we've around all these narratives that this is all we can do violence or play ball. And that's the only thing. I want to push back on the mark jackson now to your point. Don't drown as the lifeguards. Say go out there to save them. Both your not drown. So if they don't wanna be save on you. I love the fact that he is engaging in the three ts. The three ts. This time talent treasure. You have to give all three. Hopefully you do it. I see it all the talk. And i do it as well now. You could pick the times where you pick time talent treasure. He's using talent in this one right now. And he's giving them his tongue respect but also in that time you can also help them navigate into a mindset that there's more to do being on this asphalt plant football or being out there being a victim or having a victim mindset about what surrounds you and circumstances but all things considered i respect when he say because he doubled down and said it with his chest unless preface with this because now we can almost but to the aspect of is hard to ever condemn somebody for doing a good thing. What seems like it seems like in theory. We come up here how you're picking the margins but getting back to the hood as not even that. It's just a more efficient way to do that. There always is so. You don't know this because i came on the show during a pandemic. Every summer i go to nigerian medical mission. Trips with my family forty doctors and nurses were living hope ministries. We go there. We do roughly two point. Two two point five million dollars free medical work. Finally we built a hospital after several years of doing it. I realized we'd be doing a lot of stuff. Inefficiently like just as far as navigating the crowd in navigating the crowds out. We should probably sort the lines outside before bringing people inside and then asking. Hey what do you need. Is they go through triage. Let's bring them in based upon their needs..
