"Mike McConnell. Well, now at least there is some sort of certainty in Ohio, the governor said yesterday, Mike DeWine said. High school sports can continue this fall. So at least now there is a map and a roadway to playing sports at at all levels in Ohio, but it still is going to have to be navigated and navigated smartly. Standing by to talk about that is the athletic director at Lakota West. Scott Kaufman. He's also the Vice president. Board of directors. Ohh. Eh, eh, Scott? How are you today? I'm doing great. Great night's sleep in Great night waking up. Good day for kids. Ah, Long time No see, I hope you're doing well. Sounds like you're doing well, well, This is good. There's atleast some sort of directive now and you You don't have to worry about. Well, is this going to happen? Is that going to happen? So now you can go ahead and plant tell me what the What's the next step for you A Lakota West? Well, the biggest thing is we want to get a really good grip on. You know what the restrictions are going to be? I mean, let's be honest, This wasn't just a matter of open up the floodgates and do things the way we used to do them. You know, at the end of the day, I think every school in Ohio and every athletic director for that, you know the virus is still out there. This virus still riel, all the precautions and all the safety guidelines that we've been put in place a memorial day. Those become even more important than they were before. Because I, you know, I've been saying for a while Getting to this starting line was huge. Finishing the season is going to be one of the hardest things we have to do and how the kids respond with and not only the kids, but their families wearing their mass distancing when they can washing their hands and doing everything we can together to minimize the spread. Now you're not back. Students haven't come back yet. Have they? Lakota West. Look, Lakota, they have we started on Monday. Okay, so they're back. So this will be a real test early on. I mean, you know how You know, 15 16 17 year olds are they? They want to, you know, socialize. And even though they know what they're supposed to do, I mean, force of habit would be that they want to do the things that kids that age normally do. So I mean, what is the What is the police in command? Who helps you enforce? What the governor is outlined here about social distancing and about the things you're going to need to do to complete the season. Well in the aspect of who polices on campus. It's it's It takes a village mentality. You know our teachers. Our coaches are staff. You know, we're doing everything we can to model things appropriately, but also educate the kids appropriately. The challenges What they do with you know 10 to 15 hours that they're not on campus. You know they're going to have to make some sacrifices and some choices that they want to see this season through and we were really open with the kids about that. And you know, like I said, we've been really hard at it since Memorial Day, and we've been pounding into the kids about No proper distance, saying in keeping things clean and doing their wellness checks and taking their temperatures and monitoring symptoms, But more than that, and and probably the most important thing is I'm making good choices. When they're not under our supervision, and and when you look at what's going on at the college levels, and they show those pictures of some really poor choices by kids, and then they're surprised that they get shut down. You know, getting to the starting line with huge for us Finishing is going to be solely on the kids. I guess financially. It was a huge hurdle when Dwyane did not mandate testing For players to be eligible to play band members eligible to play, But that still doesn't take down what we just talked about how everybody is Goto going to have to be vigilant on that, but I think if there was mandatory testing I think most school systems would not have been able to afford that right Total agree as an association we flat out have been saying to the governor's office since they changed the order back in July. That testing was a requirement. We just wouldn't be able to move forward, and I think they knew that and I think Lieutenant Governor Hughes did a great job of explaining that when they put that into the order back enjoy, it wasn't intended for high school sports. And you can't unless I'm reading this wrong And I know Tom Holden loves to dress the entire city. I mean, he was good, but you have a limit. Now as to how many you can you can dress for these games. Right? We do. And this is one of those scenarios. Where you know you get on one hand. You're a little bit disappointed because yes, there's going to be restrictions. But this is the beast, you know, and And the alternative is that we don't play at all. And so we have to take the positive with the negatives. We'll figure out how we're gonna manage the sidelines and be able to stay in accordance with With the roster restriction of 60, You know, we checked their other roster restrictions and you know the number of kids that were cut. You know, we didn't reach those numbers anyway, so that's not an issue but for football. We have 98 kids on the roster. You know we're going to we're gonna scrimmage say next this weekend. I think they have about 200 on the roster. And so you know, this will create certainly some emotions and some frustrations. And I get that. But this is what we're gonna have to do to give the kids a chance to play and I'll be honest Can that's been my only concern for the last two months, giving these kids a chance to play? Yeah, not not just football, but all sports all all of them and silvery activities and things like that, Scott. Good Look, you run a big system there. I know it's it's not an easy thing to do. Good to talk to you again. I hope you will always good to hear from you Take care. Scott Kaufman. Athletic director Lakota West High School. Yeah, it's going. It's going to have to be AH, vigilant kind of thing on not just from the athletic directors in the football coaches, but everybody and the parents You know if if you want to keep your kid eligible, If you wantto have high school sports, then you've gotta have that kind of vigilance at home. And if not, then what you're going to have is what we're seeing at a lot of universities right now, where schools are reporting in And they're testing for co vid and schools are big have put their sports on. Hold on pause. We'll see how it works with the green light given yesterday. "News from the governor today, it wass now talking about 31 minutes to get to the point that ever ever wait to see Holly, but he had some kind of a glitch there in the middle of the thing Was that about Well, yeah, something like that, anyway. So, Yeah, Just a boil it all down, I said, is issuing an order. All sports may go forward, contact and non contact. The superintendents of each school can decide. What they want to do if they want to proceed with the fall or if they want to go in the spring. I know there's some schools up in Chi Hogan County, Parma city schools that the superintendent really wants to go to her. And you're talking to Willie about that sits in the Cleveland area rights. So, though, so we'll be able to do that. Spectators. None other than the fact that you know the family of the kids, and I'm sure that will be each school will handle that differently was that means? I mean, just your mom and Dad. Does that mean your aunts and uncles Your brothers sisters? We shall see. But let's say there's gonna be a lot of extended families in the case of people. Dressing up is grandparents and uncles and aunts, Your and my grandpa on Uncle Tom and Aunt Betty and the whole nine yards very go. Let's bring on our good friend Scott Kaufman. He's the athletic director, Lakota West High School and also on the board of the essay. Scott, How are you? Now it's been a really, really good day. Good. What's been your reaction? Just the news of the government gave out here earlier. You know, the initial reaction is probably a big sigh relief and that quickly turned into you know, kind of some of those pre game jitters that you get before you coach or play that just so excited for the kids because it's been such a long journey. You know, we've had Six months of not a lot of positive things and Boy. What a great day. That's all I got. I mean, what a great day for kids. So, Scott, let me ask you Did you guys have an inkling of what the governor was going to say? Or did you find out when the rest of us did? Well, you know, I think you know, we all try toe interpret things on our own. You know, you'd think about some of the things that the governor did last week. With his press conferences. You know the doctors he had on Tuesday and then the doctor he had on Thursday because I think it's been really important for him to be very specific and open. About what you know there are risks with this. I mean, Virus Israel The issues with it are riel, and I think it's been important for him to be able to share what are those risks associated with with that and then being able to turn around and say, you know, with those risks you as a parent, I get to decide what's in the best interests of your child, and I think he did a really good job of setting the table. And giving people time to reflect on it to ultimately today, coming in and saying We know what the risks are. We had another doctor on today. And if you want to take those risks, take go play, and and I respect him for the manner in which you want now like a lie. I would love to have heard this two weeks ago. Uh, total disregard for my heart condition, you know, but bottom line is this's all in time to be able to start soccer this weekend and be able to start football next weekend. All the other sports have already started. You know, we know we have to have a new normal and this is one of those ways that helps us get back to a new normal and I'm just so excited for our kids. Now, Scott, the Devil is going to be in the details here because if anybody thinks that when all 88 counties of athletes and football soccer men men soccer women's soccer etcetera are going to come back to sports, and there's going to be zero positive cases out of this is dreaming. There's going to be some spikes. There's going to be some positive cases. Some kids are going to test positive for covert. What happens, then? Any details? Scott on it Does the whole team have to shut down those that individual have to stay out a certain amount of time? What's that? Well, like you said, Devil in the details, but the simple fact that matters we've been working through these type of things all summer long. You know, when we talked a couple weeks ago about our workout started, you know, right after Memorial Day, and the simple fact that matters Yes. We know there will be positive cases. No one here is suggesting that there won't be You know how we deal with those? You know, we have protocols in place and the aspects of immediately isolating the person that has tested positive But in the same respect prior to that were isolating kids who have symptoms because we're doing Bailey Wellness. Jackson. We're doing daily temperature Check Shen. You know, when they're outside of the field of play, they're wearing their backs and we're doing everything we can to minimize that spread that goes with it. But at the end of the day And that first kid test positive, You know, then we bring the county in and then we bring in our school nurses and we try to trace back and try to minimize the number of people that have to be isolated, but in the same respect that it's really important that we get a grip on. So where does that close contact occur, and we talk about the aspects of the definition that we've been given for a couple months now, close contact is, you know being within 6 ft. Without a mask for 10, 15 minutes or more, and there's been some talk of reducing that depends. But everything that we've done has been designed around minimizing that type of close contact, whether it's in a locker room or weight room or even on the playing field or in a gym. And so, you know, we're hoping we were able to trace back that we'll be able to minimize those close contacts. Just got if a kid test positive. Are they going to be quarantined for two weeks or they offered two weeks or is it a test contention thing? How's that work? Anybody that test positive? You know, I guess I like the way I've kind of been claimed it to my coaches. Once a kid test positive, you know, similar to a concussion protocol. They can't come back until they're cleared by a position. So you know, Once they test positive there immediately out of school, the removed from the playing field on then you know they go through the healing process. Hopefully, that's uneventful, and in most cases that's uneventful. On Then, Once they're cleared by a physician, then they'll be able to come back on. Those aren't necessarily school decisions, Those air going to county driven and Dr driven Now, Scott isn't the NSA have any say or recommendations for House schools will proceed with having fans and what that's going to be limited to how they're supposed to do the seating in the distance, singing all that any details on that. So we were expecting, you know, and we'll get a little more detail from the governor's order. Some of the things that I've seen in advance, you know, he is certainly and he reiterated that today on the phone that it's really going to be centered around family. At the nice thing about when it's centered around families for all intensive purposes. They're already in that pod with the kids that are on the field. You know, we did an inter squad scrimmage last week and we had fans and It was just parents. We give every athlete two tickets to give other parents and our parents were phenomenal. We took the temperature upon arrival. They wore their masks, and they spread out in our bleachers. And I think by encounter we had 183 people in the stands that normally hold 3500. So they were ableto spread out very effectively. I think what we're going to see from the governor's paperwork. What I hope to be tonight or tomorrow will probably be, you know a 15% of permanent seating capacity that is supposed to be geared towards focusing on family. What I think will be a local school district decision is how they're better. How their best able to deal with That number of tickets. You know for me as I look at what? Cody West. I got my football players. I got my cheerleaders and I got my marching band members and we're going..

"The ridge community funded Scott Kaufman the athletic director Lakota west high school get into not only the the high school scenarios obviously schools being shut down at most campuses now are closed essentially down June thirtieth Boone County schools Kent County schools over northern Kentucky but we also started talking about colleges in the fall and they've been shut down as well did this semester I'm presuming end of the summer in and I know your daughter is going to go away yeah Bob lots of college students are in and it's you know it's one of those in the back to the do you know they talk about that congregating and and how that's not good what is a dormitory right I mean it's a you know even just gonna going to eat in the cafeteria hello last June soul I'm scheduled to teach another course as an adjunct professor at northern Kentucky university spent ten years full time on the college of business faculty there from two thousand to twenty twelve I co founded their undergraduate degree program in sports business top before that at Xavier University for a number of years as an adjunct I can tell you this they don't nobody knows yet but they're talking about you know you you have a couple options right now they're doing the virtual learning right remote then there's obviously the normal in classroom and then there's actually what they've kind of kicked around as a possibility is what they're calling a blended kind of course a hybrid where you might start all off the beginning of the semester remotely and then you would come back for the latter half of the semester in class so kind of the a combination there's also been talk well if you had a class most of them are traditionally two days a week summer three but in the college of business are mostly to and and you would have half the class on a Tuesday then the other half on a Thursday in the day that you wore in class you would be doing something virtual right so I mean they're they're they're taking a look at all that kind of stuff well you don't have a choice now in case he was not a a big it's not a huge residential campus but they run a lot more I mean I would say you know out of there in a museum really round numbers here but I would say another fifteen to sixteen thousand enrollment probably three thousand or I mean you know so right twenty percent not depended upon campus housing correct as much as other universities are out now and I have to wonder you know how does that affect and how is it affecting like housing rebates for those no question came home meal plans and we're looking into meal plans and all these different things and it's like how are they going to rebalance that it's funny you bring that up so I'm not going to mention this school but it's a it's a college or university could talking and somebody told me that their son and this is the current semester the day quote unquote capped the dormitories open so they take because they didn't want to give a rebate so don't you bring up an interesting question think about this I will tell you I will guarantee that and and I know there's gonna be faculty members out there in higher education I would argue with me feel free I'm I'm willing to argue with you that I'm not about some classes remotely I get some classes should not be taught just remotely sure right they can we talk to Scotty he talked about that interaction that social aspect you're the one I think the problem told me this years ago but you go to college you learn how to live that's part of the high school you live to learn in my college you learn to live so so my question to think about this or they come out so from that standpoint they get a refund well that's a great question because that's what the parents are gonna be concerned with that information the the students I would tell you this and maybe that's what this is all been preparing them for this living on the phone and the social media and having your head bent down the block maybe this is oddly enough what they're going to have to be faced with moving forward so it's not a complete shock to the system because they're already sort of automated to that level and I was also told get a get a load of this number that twenty they they are projecting and this is in I believe this is universally that if they have remote learning in the fall twenty to twenty five percent less enrollment a decline by then surprised so but think about what that's going to do I mean they're most R. St most are state funded can you imagine so if you have one out of four one out of five students not there man I mean you talk about budget cuts no wait that there will be brand new economies of scale only hope the deficiencies com as a result as we've talked about you know with even bringing your office back know how many people are essentially need to be in the building on the given time don't forget if you're on floor three you walk to the left if you're on floor floor you walk to the right I mean it's well let me ask you this with regard to what's new in the future because what we may be looking at and I saw this article I thought it was just click bait when it comes from medical xpress dot com now again right I don't know if that's a legit site or not but the the the headline is after locked down a world of masks you know you're looking back at China and some of the eastern countries that I've used masks for years and years for pollution reasons another last do you want to live in a region of the world where masks are going to be part of your everyday life I don't know what I've heard some of the I've heard some of the talk about like you know you wear your mask until you get to your desk or you get to your get to you're not again yeah I prefer I don't want to hear the new normal I'll take temporary normal until we revert back to what is our normal yeah I want to get back to where we work in a get if you get a vaccine if you got me come on man I mean you've heard all these people talk tonight about the great medical you know professionals we happen there has to be at some point we have to get back to living and this is what all the all the noise just starts to take over right was it man made wasn't not man made was it from eating a bad were they trying to teach bats to give it to other animals right I love when all of this stuff settles to the ground who the hell knows about Lee were still never going to actually know it's going to be what you choose to believe all again I would say is over the last couple of hours we say here's how you look forward yep you look forward with the opportunity to do it to behave in a way that is good for the other person right try to help someone else yes it's not about us it's not about you individually it's about the other person so how do you move forward going that way it's the only way to do it without I agree going completely back nuts craze now gonna get a check on news but when we continue you and I are both planning to do so coming out of this here's something to think about future planning right how about this for a long time but it's going to be months of hell in probably the last time yes but we will I will tell you what that is when we continue but first a check on news of Campbell.

"Every PP that we had we were standing up to the hospitals you know whether with Glover weather was masked they told me I could open tomorrow as long as you can so long as you can properly sterilized I don't have the supplies for the nor can I order because my understanding is the FBI basically intercepted her stepping any type of PP big order so we have to restock those things in the press and be prepared for that still at the school in a D. I'm telling my trainers okay but get in line so we can start getting the supplies so when they do give us the opportunity to open up we're ready to go well that makes sense yeah in your writing credit check the great in helping us with that in it so we're going to be ready to again we hope for the best but we're going to prepare for the worst and and that's just the way we got to move forward and that's three weeks at a time for me to look at anything beyond three weeks from now would be a waste of anybody's time makes perfect sense I appreciate we appreciate your time and that's why I knew you'd be good to talk to about this because it's realities got a good talking to you I'd rather keep that family sees got Kaufman thanks for joining us the average rector at Lakota west high school in there you have and will continue right after we get a check on news here it's Campbell adventure how to make a little money for and I think we got a basically got a windfall common talked about next time she's well on the show it's going to be right yeah Gabler figure we can rally check news radio seven hundred WLW Cincinnati traffic and weather radio seven hundred W. "All right Scott Kaufman who's the athletic director at Lakota west high school we got lots to discuss with him so let's welcome in the program Ralph good evening Thomas how you doing I'm doing all right now let me ask you first with wife and daughters everybody healthy safe all that kind of stuff everybody is doing great the you know make informed school obviously but yeah everybody's home doing well and healthy and at this point now the person in question is you've been working I know some from home are they tired of you yet being around they're tired of me when I'm not around so yeah that it's it's it's a lot of meetings in a lot of discussion about but now I ever everybody's great you ready to get back at it what I'm sorry about that but the router Scott you mention your daughters back from school she's she's back from college yeah yes she's not because I my daughter is a senior in college this year are in high school and looking to become a freshman in the fall and will be a freshman in the fall of stencil if everything opens back up blood and and a lot of what we talked about is the psyche how this plays on the psyche of the seniors of high school heading into bed with your daughter coming back and playing sports and all that you're saying this remote not just as of athletic director of Lakota west and all your students but how it's affecting your daughter and her athletics psychologically did you have any tips for me with regard to my daughter getting ready to go to school she doesn't play sports but she she is just as anxious to get out there is anybody else you know I I think the biggest thing that we keep talking about is the aspects of you know part of life is learning how to control the uncontrollable well in in right now all of us have been built for European in the best thing we can do is is one from it try to listen to the advice that we're getting from those that they that have more answers and we do understand that this is going to come to the end to end you know the simple fact of matter is we have some of the greatest medical minds and make medical technology in the world and then don't be an end to this you know we don't know how quickly but we know we'll be better off the more people if we just listen and be patient and allow everybody keeps talking about a new normal I'm not sure that I necessarily want to talk about a new normal except for the fact that no this is going to this too shall pass in in the brighter days ahead and I think we just got to be optimistic at the aspects of I know it's hard for a high school senior it's hard for a college junior because you know they're they're getting ready to spread their wings so to speak and and do some some neat things in their life and those things are still going to happen just probably not as quick as they want them to happen but you know the best thing we can do stay in place be together and get through this and move on well let me ask you and obviously you guys about a school like everybody else in there will be going back to school this academic year what what if you were hurt in an and I'm sure you still stay in touch and you do a lot of stuff on social media you recognize all the seniors they're local to west what what advice I mean what are you hearing or seeing from seniors and and student athletes and students in general but you've got to know out west how are they coping with this because I mean all of a sudden you have no prom you know you have a if you have a graduation is going to take a much different scenario they would have hoped for these I remember back to my senior this was supposed to be the time when you were ready to have this much fun go on your senior trip that's an awful lot and I and I'm not naive and I get the fact that people are very ill with this and some of di I understand that but if you're a high school senior you're dealing with what's in front of you as a high school senior there's no doubt I mean it's hard for anybody who's sixteen seventeen eighteen years old much more beyond you know tomorrow you know what I keep trying to share with with people that I talk with is that this is such a short clip in the radar of their life in the big scope of things if their disappointment at each other as I you know I I I get that no we we all are looking for specific moments but I truly I would get in the aspects of their third grader moments ahead and yeah this is disappointing you know sometimes we get we get thrown some curveballs and you know we we got a reaction A. E. L. but there will be brighter days ahead they'll be great memories ahead and and quite frankly thirty years from now they'll probably talk more about this moment in time then we probably do from our high school times yeah because it is out of the ordinary and it it's it's not normal I will not comment yeah they'll they'll have more things to talk about it are there disappoints absolute there's nobody we're all disappointed you are prince welding card an artist you print for your teeth and actually we are always talking about the aspects we want our kids back you know we've we've given our lives to put them in situations to be able to do things in the school and can we not we hate not having them around if I have one more virtual meeting my head's gonna spend much rather be meeting with kids and and talking about you know them and their lives and their future that I would be you know at trying to figure out what's next then and so I think if it's in the short term of this yeah it's hard I get that means disappointing and but at the end of the day we got to get through this we have two cabins many live stages we can we gotta get and be able to move forward with all of our families being said I'm the best big question I think all of us get is how's your family how are they doing in that respect well we can help foster that environment in the best way to do that is listen to what they're telling us I understand that this is such a short period of time in their life and we're gonna get back to a normal even though you know maybe it isn't such a bad thing times you need to wash your hands for anyway so you know there's certainly some lessons they're going to come out of this I think for all of us and and we just got to take those and and move forward it's got company athletic director Lakota west high schools our guest here on gambling senior weekly reality check yeah and Scott I wanted to ask if we can address this if you don't mind hanging over the break because I think one of the important things with with my daughter at least his band and I'll give you a great example she walked out of my house the other day to pick something up she lives down down the street primary her primary residences with her mom understaffed at but she walked down I thought what is once you have that hang dog look on her face and why was she walking because even though it's only a eighth of a mile C. tends to drive what's the matter she goes my car won't start clearly because it just had been driven and I don't know how long and she burst into tears it wasn't had nothing to do with the car it had everything to do with the night before should have been her prom and all of this she had left the house there is essentially the property to either go back in for the my house or elsewhere in almost forty five days so it tripped and triggered this reaction so what I found useful was I just sat down and I told her the truth I tie dye was very honest with her I said look you know you've been to dances prom is just another dance and what's the best part of it getting dressed taking the pictures going to dinner what's the thing about prom that you've been to that you didn't like the most the dance you couldn't wait to leave you had to stay until a certain time so here's the thing you can get dressed up you can put do this you go to all of these things you can recreate they don't really to a level know what they're missing that will change for athletes who are waiting on scholarships and all of these different things whether it's financial parts of it versus just experience and if you don't mind hanging out over the break think about that for a minute and see if we can parse that out into two different angles sure nice got companies against to be with us when we continue easy athletic director Lakota west high school more to talk about we talk about maybe that he gave me he told me what he told some of his coaches and I think it's great advice we'll get.

"About fifteen minutes got Kaufman administrator athletic director he's been doing this for almost twenty five years at Lakota west high school talk about a lot of things including what's been going on in high school said the summer to fall he's got a daughter in college you got one about ready to start I got two in college will talk about what the fall looks like for counties I teach will get into that box right now we're talking a little entertainment and sports so one in five Americans say that they are essentially based on research say that they're ready to return to their normal life right which seems low to me seems low all of my all of the doctors and everything on Facebook these days so what about this two out of five so forty percent right now a great mathematician say that they can't imagine attending a sporting event for the rest of twenty two not only two in five I think they would yeah no yes yes correct say they feel comfortable attending a sporting event in Toronto two one five and all I'm saying and I guess is because my pages the derivative of my page is rock radio so everybody that's definitely on my page is a music fan right one concert right sure understandable but I can I mean I can certainly see that with the some of the paranoia and the different situational set ups and what not but I I still feel like that number is low I think are a lot of people are talking a good game but they'll be like you go first you know right well it's it's just like school so we're getting that was Scott but but the rear yeah do you want to be the first school to open up whenever you open up and then have an issue have a recurrence which everybody sees the prop part that bothers me about all of this is it and I understand it could spite okay but we're we're living everything now off of it cool right well I understand that but my my point being at some point somebody's going to have to get in the water right well and I think some some senses being talked about this from the health care community in that listen we're going to have to roll this out if you are one of the people that doesn't feel like you are ready to correct have to that's absolutely that's correct thing you have to keep in mind no one's going to make you do it right so but there are people of financially have to do it and if they are comfortable putting whatever risk you know themselves at risk because laws are not putting someone else at risk then you're gonna have to let this happen because herd immunity is something that is ultimately going to have to be built up as move forward but if you don't feel comfortable you don't have to do it let me ask you this I know you and I love when there's nothing we love to being just smashed in a section with tons of peace great revitalized and sweating I love it are you an American I love concerts but I'm like you I have gotten to the point where I've been to so many of them you more concerts and Mimi sporting events that I'm okay watching on TV I'm okay listen to music just listening to the music but would you feel I mean would you if you want an opportunity to see somebody I'm just making this up in November S. suing that you assuming that you were able would you be okay I'm I'm not a good test case okay for this because the only reason I would go to a show now has nothing to do with any of that I was this was my mindset already correct I've seen everybody I want to say now there's when couples I haven't seen that I would like to see what I what we'll do is I will go with many fan right watch her watch a show and see through her eyes because that is the joy that I get out of the situation and getting her an opportunity to see some like when she wanted to go see motionless in white river band I said well we'll go do that but you have to stay on watch Alice Cooper and she loved Alice Cooper so that was the fulfilling its most fulfilling part of it for me outside of that I don't need to go do that insure but there are so many people I know that still do whether be sporting events or concerts let me ask you this yes in Lithuanians they've decided to get back to live music by utilizing drive in movies the bands are setting up on the stage of the front of the screen accounting out staging cars are ex number again apart as they would be in a drive in movie and that's how they have approached it in look interesting analysts await one the wrong guy to ask because I love drive ins yeah back in the day what we used to go all the time I know there's starlight album yeah I know there are very few there's only two or three in the entire yeah kind of the DMA Ross Hamilton that was on right Ishtar years ago yep we're the only car there they've also done well I don't think we're going to see that happen in this country right but here's the other thing ever is like I love this idea let's do all we can send our trunk and what we'll do here's what I would tell you if everybody can keep themselves on their own car you know maybe it would be worth trying with even with a local band or a tribute right but we can't we cannot lock ourselves down around and seen so many now doing the dumbest nonsense we can't keep to ourselves and even given that opportunity no one would be able to do that with the American mindset you couldn't do it now here's the bigger problem okay you can't make any money doing it that's the S. it it's on to Saddam right that's and that's the problem with the what a lot of ideas sound really good to to us perhaps as consumers but again are you you're not the one footing the bill right you know making the suggestion is one thing being able to actually operate as a business venture is another yeah if you want to charge five hundred dollars a car I don't think that's going over really gonna happen some of the cars are probably worth at that point it goes right back exactly and to twelve people on your try I remember those days but but to your point about you know doing events for a living and everything else people don't understand excellence so you have to build out you have to build out the PA right the lighting page article you have to pay the bad it have to be worth it to the band yeah it's not financially here already it's me now no you don't we we had Dave moody right yes Sundar struck and I mean it in this in the one thing that I've come to the conclusion we start to see a lot more of the in home you know it's a kind of virtual type stuff but this is taking a massive toll on the music well and I would say to them I'm I'm in contact with him a couple times a week because they have spent essentially for five years developing thunderstruck as the pre eminent ACDC tribute whatever you believe about triplex doesn't matter they've developed this business model they're packing festivals packing right huge balls JYJ and it is just every day he says I'm just hoping it is not throwing away everything we've worked hard for because there's a chance you may not have any shows before the end of the year I think there's a good chance family yeah but I don't think that way but I but I do I mean basically if you look at or talk about a vaccine perhaps in January but until then well here's another one all right our buddy Kevin fox who we talked to a couple of weeks ago guy who came off the medical issues already had some issues with regard to his gigs being filled in by other local musicians well now he and I'm seeing a handful of others that are in this group that we share on our Facebook page they're finding out now that some of their regular accounts and bars and restaurants where they normally played if they are opening up we're not gonna have any more live music through the end of the year so even if they all right sure there those guilds are long gone yeah it is well I'm telling you that the disposable income factor is one thing but will people go back out it is a is a thing that why I think by with well into next year is going to be a by agreeing in you just brought up something that's very interesting too if you're re opening if you're the owner and your re opening you don't know yet you can't project because nobody's ever been through this yeah so think about it what are you going to be looking to do and this gets right to the music cut cut down expenses yeah until you know that your back I saw a television on the news tonight it was the resists cafe in mount lookout you know they've been closed since not long and you know that they were asking him about he goes and you've been this apps and I love the eserver right I mean in there your what a photo I mean just a modest seating yeah so can you and he and he basically said that he goes we have four or five people in here I mean I think that's a huge piece of the puzzle that's well not easy to figure out we've talked to where we are we've added the larger than live to our portfolio yeah we're doing I'm working on another project with Jimmy king for making karate girls are gonna be doing something online on Tuesday nights but I have another money making idea I want to run by you after the news and see what you can do it after the news you can do it after eleven after eleven after eleven and I got a little of music question for a minute test you test your music metal all right fair enough it's not spelled M. E. T. A. L. just for the record all right ask your music metal well we'll do that after we check with rob carpenter he's gamble I'm said it's your weekly reality check on newsradio seven hundred W. "Buns and rolls at your local market ballpark. Bunsen rolls. The official buns and rolls of the Cincinnati Bengals. He was the big twelve player of the year and one of two third round picks with Sam Hubbard he's played mostly special teams. But with the rash of injuries at the linebacker position. He has to be ready to play more than at the beginning of the season. Maliki Jefferson is up next with Dan hoard in this week's facs. No. Fantastic fun facts with. Time for some fun facts with Bengals linebacker Balik. Jefferson from mosquito Texas not too far from Dallas, the so-called rodeo capital of Texas. Tell us a little bit about where you grew up and what you're into as a kid mosquitoes. It's a great town. I love it. It's a very small community we've made up of five different high schools. So we're all kind of relatives when it comes to anything. We do outside of you know, when we leave Muskie, you know, growing up we always used to be around each other a basketball football baseball. We always knew who the guys were in the town. And so it was really cool up. We just hung out each other. Speaking of brothers. You have two older brothers how much older and how tough were they on their kid, brother? I won the thirty one that's twenty five. So they were really tough on me. Barely I brakes with them everything. They did I had to do, especially, workout wise and best. What kinda made me? You know, who I am? And of course, I'd I was very tough on us. Oh, I will get the same treatment they got. But it was is very I I can appreciate my brothers more than anything because they did give me a lot of tools for life skills. And and of course, my physical abilities. Tell me a little more about your dad. What did or does he do for a living Modesto architect? He's white that many many years and. Retiring soon, so congrats his long longevity with that. Because sacrifice. I mean, a lot of things that wouldn't happen in my life wouldn't have happened. So. He's a great, Greg is my life mentor. He tells me everything even though we argue about things I have mounted on the thing is I like how we could be. You know, have our opinions, and of course, Sabam like men, and I appreciate the respect. He gives me for doing facsimile Jefferson. There have been books TV shows and movies done about high school football in Texas. Was it like that at petite high school? Of course, we had all the crowds and every rivalry game people to come see as because not only myself, but I had two other teammates were highly highly recruited out of high school. And so people come to watch us play. And my time in my school. I was probably the first person. I am the first version they go pro athletically and make an active roster. So the EPA stool, so hopefully, we have some guys in the future that, you know, follow them up and become to the to the highest level of football. You won the Butkus award in highschool top high school linebacker in the country. Dick Butkus showed up at your high school to give you the award. Was that a surprise? Yeah. I had a feeling though he began hold water. So. I had a feeling he's going to become in. And it was a cool. It's it's know. Know people didn't know much about him, but super legendary I was hoping to get it in college, but you know, things with their own ways. And you know, you got to learn and grow from that stuff. You're a highly touted recruit did you enjoy the process or was it exhausting? Actually, it was a mix his house where you just want to put your phone down and talk to your family BYU family. They wanna talk to coaches because you knew half of it wasn't real. They just want to be honest with you. They, you know, trying to feed you what you want to hear not what you need to hear. So. It was very tough, especially financially going places with the rules and regulations. I wasn't able to bring both my parents so places that were far that I really considered I really get the opportunity to to get the fool look at them. And visit the university like I wanted to. But I think it was a very fun experience. Overall. I really do it. One of those more distant schools was UCLA and I read on your visit that you met actress Carrie Washington, aka Olivia pope on the TV show scandal when people magazine's most beautiful women in the world. Tell me about that. It was really my mom. We didn't get thought too much because she was with some kids day respectfully, we were like that's perfectly fine. Not I'm not big into going up to, you know, famous people in, you know, going on especially when they're doing something to to bother them because I do that sometimes, but I don't mind it. But the realm is different. They get it everywhere. She goes, but a mom was able to speak to her, and I took a picture of them just talking we got to actually meet her. But it was really cool being around here. Some more exciting for your mom, then you. Yeah. Very excited. She was very polite to my mind was they hand with the kids, and what they want pitcher more people are gonna come. And I was like, okay. Stand that. So it'd be the experience though, so we're doing fun facsimile Jefferson. You went to Texas where one of your mentors was a former longhorns linebacker who's from here. Jordan Hicks who went to Lakota west high school. Tell us a little bit about your relationship with Jordan Jordan was actually the the first president I made going into UT being my sophomore year. I showed it to easy game unofficially and the locker room, and he gave me pay close. And I was like oh, man. Appreciate it. Like, he was found me the keys, and he was on the car with he gave me a dozen forever since then I looked up to him like a big, brother. And I appreciate his mix worship. He's advice. He's giving me especially throughout this process because it's very tough people who who know what you're going through to be able to get through it. So he's a very big mentor my life, and I still consistently thoughts on how did he react when you were drafted by his hometown Zing. Be wedding you big reaction or anything like that. But hopefully now season it can leak, you know, he has the family and the new baby now so congrats to him Maliki left Texas with one year of eligibility remaining. And you put out a thank you video when you announced that decision that included some sign language how much do, you know? I'm pretty fluent in it. I can sign actually have dreams about doing sign language. They say that's a sign that you know, you know, what you're doing. Actually, you kind of know the language so I try as much as I can practice, especially like sometimes when I'm in meetings in Nashville and stuff. I always thinking what what it is. And sign language is a lot of this stuff is the stuff. We are. You know, kids. It's just little things that. You know, you gotta get used to do a day to day lives is different and stuff. But it's a very funny. We should learn the people I've met doing that is incredible. When did you learn it, and why did you choose to learn it? I learned it unco. I'll really starting my sophomore year and just kept practice in take the classes, of course. And. You know, I took in Spanish questions before I wasn't really grasping. It is more of a process. I wanted something that could actually grasp and make an impact influence with. So do American sign language and made some great friends got friends everywhere now, so is really good experience at heavy do some, but it's a radio interview. So it wouldn't work out. Very well, you got invited to the NFL scouting combine. And we've all heard the horror stories about being poked in product, it's cetera. But I read that you enjoyed it did not do it. I read incorrectly. Apparently did. Like, it's not a process for the player because you sit around for four days after you've done, massive amounts of trainings. The weeks before your training every day. You're not used to just interviewing especially China, your mind or just just torturing your mind with the things you're seeing and. The exposure in less sleep again, you don't train for that you chain to get more sleep and be ready to work out the next day. So haven't four days off before you actually work out. What's my biggest issue? A lot of people get hurt from that stuff. I think it should be you fly. I you work out then next day in the you can do all of you processes up like that. So got to be performing a high level without being retired. So I think that is something they should definitely change because that will help the performance of athletes instead of you know, is really make or break situation. Do good he'd be bad or you don't do it. So I think it's definitely something to help out the players if we're going to continue to do that process processes should be something like that. All right. A couple more fun facts for Bengals linebacker, Molly. Jefferson you with the fourteenth pick of the third round this year the so-called Pizza Hut. Pi- pick three point one four. You were supposed to get free pizza for a year. But you went through your stash before the year was up is that what happened? I see. The thing is. I had some friends and family members. You know, people ask for things. Get the free pizza, whatever they always taught me. Can I get a pizza? Okay. He's not a hand. But at the same time, I was a, you know, I'm really not using the pieces all the time because they gotta you help the watch my diet things like that. So I was like, okay, he'll he'll give them to people and do it. But I ran out, but then pizza actually sent me some more. So anytime, I run out fantastic. I can give more pizza cards. But they you know, they they've done a pretty good job with that. All right. I was worried that there's some fine print that we weren't aware of five really deal with that. I really appreciate them. All right last thing from elite Jefferson. Are you familiar with the term diasteam a-? No you and Michael Strahan and David Letterman have that in common. If I'm saying it, right? That is the gap between the front teeth. You've got a magnetic smile lights up the room. But the kids used to kid you about the gap between the front teeth. Yeah. I was thinking about doing actually maybe there's a line in the future. But you know, mom, I get this mile for mom. It's it's a gap. She has us. So I was like that's not fair. You have your close a hassle open. But you know, it's it's a it's a beautiful thing. Everybody says new and I'm not smiling and stuff. Wrong. And so can't. Problem facing show, people happy, I am a you do have a smile that lights up the room. I genuinely mean that. And I appreciate your time very much best of luck the rest of the land. Appreciate it. Thanks, dan. And no one thought so many young players would be forced into action so soon, but the phrase.
