Two new candidates, Brianna Thomas and Mike McQuaid, seek seats on Seattle Council
"New candidates who are running for the Seattle City Council are familiar names in some circles. The story from Cuomo's Gregor Shoals, Brianna Thomas is the chief of staff to City Council president Lorena Gonzalez and Mike McQuaid is a South Lake Union community leader. Both are running for seats that represent the entire city, the rather than a district. Thomas previously worked on several campaigns, including the one that created a $15 minimum wage in Si Tak and the campaign that created the publicly funded democracy vouchers. She's running for the seat that Gonzalez is giving up to run. Mayor McQuaid owns a strategic communications business. He's served on the south like Union Community Council for much of the past decade, and he's challenging incumbent to racing Mosqueda.

Why would you have an office in downtown when you can set your your Letterhead up in Bellevue or somewhere else and have your people still work from home? Five hundred dollars but I didn't, see in the police yesterday Writing ordinance I didn't see anybody out with a ticket book canon Moreland sixty dogs in around the lake saw some. Dogs rafting I saw some. Dogs boarding I saw, some dogs swimming. And fetching we even saw a couple of the. Older dogs they had the audacity to Sunday fully nude was sleeping Software great Danes some had open, containers I think is probably Alpo do dog still eat Alpo sure they do of course I, have to admit it felt less like a beach for humans. More like a Seattle waterpark for dogs and. If somebody who's going to put together a calendar called the dogs of south lake union this would be the spot. And then don't think we. Didn't see a few, dogs relieve themselves. But I also saw a few humans do the. Same thing so I think we're even Stephen on that Other signs at the. Divers swim so we hit the trifecta yesterday we saw lots of dogs my son and I, there's a tremendous amount of diving my son was actually one of the divers so I think, we we broke that law we saw a lot of swimming. There was so much swimming yesterday in Seattle And then every single bike share rider didn't, have a helmet on they didn't announce that they. Were on the left when they pass and I rarely heard the bell that you're supposed to hear ring when another rider passes you. I, did hear a few hey what's up bra and also hey you're running the bike lane. Which often do and. I think Seattle's helmet law might be. They have a place to land. In so boats all have room to dock Seems a bit elitist to me so if you have a boat or. You, can afford a floatplane or ride in one the beaches yours but if you're a family. Just starting out you're. Looking for some beach access either have. A boat a plane or a tent Because we've seen tents everywhere, in the city of Seattle And we know who stayed in those sets I hope you had a great weekend and I'll take some of the dog versus humans anytime at least they know how to. Doggy paddle and we'll see at three on the. Radio so that was my time at south. Lake union it's interesting because that that's that's my park I live two blocks away from there and I go to the park all the time. And you're exactly right in that it is very bewildering, I think if I was going to interpret the signs keep the dogs on the sidewalk in, scoop up, and then but going down to the beach of. Course every dog wants to go, down to the beach so there's the little beach there but I didn't know the part where you just said. About the planes and the boats because it is nonstop and I get that Kenmore air has been there, for probably. Going on close to seventy five. Eighty years I think and. I've written on those planes I actually love those. Planes I would recommend those over the ducks any day it's a little bit more expensive than on a lot More expensive it's a superior trip in a superior safety record so I think that Kenmore air. Does a great job however they are coming in and, out in and out in and out and you have the kayaks and the standard Palo borders, and but, the swimmers in that cove of course you want. To swim in there it's Eighty-six, degrees that's the place you want to go and I'm right on the other side of Mohiuddin is the center. For wooden boats so sometimes you'll have twenty five little wooden boats that go out at a time and, so you. Have everything on the lake at. The same time and here. Comes a seaplane that wants to land it can. Get a little bit scary on those really crowded days And you're right it makes no sense the, dog situation dogs love water in typically I would. Always take my dogs to water in a more secluded. Area, but if you're in a city dweller that's the push you're gonna water sign though they're posted right next to each other. It doesn't make any sense dogs are, not allowed, is the one side and then. Right above it. Says leash an pet laws obey all. The scoop law so those particular laws on that beach don't make any sense at. All in the amount of people that were drinking in south lake union which I. Don't necessarily have a problem with right was insane but when you. Go to other area beaches where there's more black. And Brown people and then you see people being cited for that That I don't think that's. Really fair so I, am, just trying to be. More more sensitive to microaggressions in there wasn't a cop. Site yesterday and there. Didn't need to be a cop insight there did not need to be a. Copy people were out in Seattle that, we're having fun I didn't mind, swimming with those dogs. To me a lot of those dogs. Were, a lot more fun than some of the navy rated people that I. Saw I'd rather be in the water with the dogs, then with some of those. People there needs to be an additional. Sign above this sign that. You dispose it said human waste scoop law should be a thousand dollars my human waste sightings on sidewalks last week was three. And that is walking in the same exact park area that you had so the dog thing yes that's a great law we might need, an additional law on top of that people need to scoop. I was making about half a beach access, because we're all looking for that if, you have a boat or plane you have access Or even. If the other tent because look all, over the city Somebody cut this. Out of the story and I don't know why they did that so I'm gonna have to go talk to mynorthwest dot com But I made, the point if you have a tent you. Have all kinds of each access because a campground is open And you can put that tent, anywhere, saw, some, of. That yesterday to hey what are, your thoughts why don't you send us a text message, at nine eight nine seven three we'd love to hear from you It's, the, Online, Trading. Academy tech slot Online.

"We did, find some makes you cookie materials we can't pause but there is suspicion. Neighbor says smell smoke and I don't know if they're cooking or anything yeah there you go and they, are now talking about homeless people here here's what's happening here, in, the city of Seattle. And I talked about this before because a lot of people. Say why don't we see tents in other cities number one it's. Because we, allow tents but? Number two we just don't have space because we're. The fastest, growing city in, America right Now in a lot of cities you don't see, the homeless population there there but they are? Living in, abandoned buildings when I lived. Down in south, lake union before south lake union was south lake union was thirteen years. Ago In I live down on yell street there were a lot of homeless people that were living in. The abandoned buildings down there and i remember one day i would wake up every day and a here these kids across the roadway for me on yale there's a little school there you could wake up to their laughter it was so cool and then one day the laughter stopped and they were gone and somebody said that a company had come in by the name of vulcan bought that building and then and then the economy started crashing and people are like well this company called vulcan is still down there and they're buying properties and they're just sitting on those properties and the properties that they're buying up now they are now boarding up at a lot of the people that were homeless a no place to go they bought tens it spilled out on i five am i blaming this all on paul allen balkan i'm surely not but in a boom city that's what's happening here you knew that in the seattle times building there's over two hundred people that were living in the seattle times building think about the jungle when we close that hundreds of people were living down in the jungle think about when you drive under the ballard bridge now it's all fenced up emerson offense up you put those fences up it doesn't mean that the homeless population has gone it means that had to go Somewhere in work goes is. It spells out on I five I talked to a friend of. Mine who had to deal with, the homeless all? The time he's in the police forces said you know what I'm going to transfer to a different part of, state because every call that I'm on involves a homeless at I didn't sign up for, this and so he ended up leaving So we, can sit here and we can come on people, that are barbecuing and there's open flames and everything else and closed the campground. Which always say but this is a little heartbreaking to this is a little heartbreaking to and the thing is. When we closed the jungle we, didn't have a? Plan and if we asked people if we asked politicians to close down the campground then we have to ask, ourselves this question Ron's always good. About this too and then what And then what And then what? Do we do and I don't think we have a. Plan. For that Mike I just don't think we have a. Plan for? That who, does I mean I don't think that. Makes Seattle unique I think that's true. Of every city and we talked earlier about New York and route under, Rudy Giuliani saying you, can be homeless but you can't be homeless in. New York City. Not in Manhattan that's not an actual plan. For the homeless that's a. Plan for Manhattan if we want to create a, plan for Seattle we, can do that but it's not going. To solve homelessness you know? What I, mean, I mean we we can remove people. From I five we can put people back. In the jungle we can make homelessness. And visible, again I mean there's a lot of different things we can do here. In the city they're not going to. Solve the problem and a some point I my guess is this is my guest people are, going to say I don't care about. Solving the problem I care. About the visual that's gonna. Be my guess it. Hasn't happened yet as, of right now we're still sort of battling back and forth and trying to figure out. What we do but at some point I think they'll be a an a crisis point of friction point and people. Say it anymore Seattle is to wealthy Seattle is, doing too well my guess is I'm not saying. I'm advocating this But what do I predict. Will happen. Somebody will, come along and say yeah I just. I don't wanna see this anymore let's. Find a way to remove it from our site don't you think I, think so and I, have somebody write.

More adventures away All right you here we talk about cruises all the time the last few weeks I was chatting about traveling to Ireland on air. Lingus, when our newest partners at at seatac airport also talking about Japan and how you can fly to Asia on so many nonstop options well, this time we're thinking a little, bit more on the local, side of things and, traveling. Throughout the north west and portions of British Columbia and joining us. Is Chuck Perry the chief pilot of Kenmore air sea planes again Chuck thank, you for making us. Current adventures awaited. Part. Of your Sunday welcome again to the broadcast Oh thank you very much to help yeah always good to have you here and our friends over at Kenmore such a huge operation, that you can do out of, lake union and you guys, fly to so many, places. First off what's your favorite spot to fly or is that like. Asking someone their favorite child Yes We we have something like forty four scheduled. Destination so you, know it's it's really hard to pick a, favorite but I do have I hope two, or three favorite places that I do all, right tell us though Probably my first favorite. Would be Victoria really you're going to another country it is very different than US. And so you d- you definitely get the flavor of being in a different country. Probably my. Next favorite Vancouver Up until the time that we started scheduled service at Vancouver I did. A lot of trips there I enjoy it a lot Unstuck A moment going back to Vancouver and then I want to hear more what you. Say but Vancouver is your brand new destination and you fly right into coal harbour which is. Downtown that takes a huge. Truck I, mean when you factor just so you have to travel from downtown Seattle to downtown, Vancouver getting to, see tack know is is getting to seatac mean there's nothing you, know great about. It you gotta go, on I. Five you got a good, light? Right you gotta do. Whatever then you land in Vancouver at the, airport you gotta highway by way their. System this literally takes you downtown to downtown right It. Does and and frankly it. Does it, in less than half the time that it would take you if you were to, go to sea, TAC and take a larger carrier we we did the math on, this before we. Started the route and, we estimate, that the time to go, to? Seatac in time for. An international departure and then wait for the, departure and go and then clear customs. And then you know take the train downtown You know what's in the five to five and a half hour age and to, fly with us, downtown to downtown total from. When you walk in. The door at our terminal at lake union to walking out of. Customs at the day Cooper. Harbor spot two hours so it's it's a much much more convenient way. Of doing things if you need to be downtown yet talk to, us about clearing. Customs do. You do that, before you get to Vancouver or do you actually land in Vancouver and probably go through it easy breezy customs note imagine over at coal harbour it's. It's, so easy you get out of the airplane and you walk, down the dock the customs facility is floating it's a little a little floating building that's tied right to the doc it's between you and watching up the. Ramp to to the, beach so to speak So it's it's.

"And because it's in the court system right now these buildings sit there and they are vacated in there is nobody in these buildings there's a little church there there's a chow hall and there would be lots and lots of places for people to sleep let's say that you were having an emergency going out with housing and your city there would be a place for people to go this is my this is my question because we often talk about we don't want specific things in our backyard not in my backyard and i certainly don't want people injecting heroin in my backyard even know it happens every day about seven houses away from me there's been a lawsuit filed over tiny houses that are supposed to go into south lake union there's also been a big pushback because people want to start a shelter in seattle city hall and now there's a push back with that and some lawsuits being filed it seems like we beat up the city and politicians in the mayor rely lawn but the question would be this at what point do we as citizens stop filing lawsuits and we say you know what we're with you this is an emergency maybe we should put some tiny homes in south lake union maybe we do need to do something right now at seattle city hall before another winter hits and maybe we need to stop taking a beautiful park like discovery park in china that up in the court system maybe it's time to how some people what say you well those are kind of two different things i think nobody would disagree with what you said on on the stating the needs i think what we have here is a profound mistrust among very capable people in the city and our government and i think it's because to me we're becoming more and more heavily weighted towards these white collar analytical jobs and when you look at the demographic traffic's of of the city and you have a many people like i was talking with someone from amazon the other day and was not i i don't know why i was surprised that surprised just how well schooled they were like this person could talk about statistical analysis in algorithms and had traveled the world and was just very very smart and so that's that's the peer group that's coming in so this group of folks who is making more than the average person and is careful about their city careful about their own careers they look around and they go this is a clown show like you wouldn't run a gas station this way like they know how to run businesses they know how to manage budgets they know how to program computers they know how to do supply chains from china to the pacific northwest to fulfillment centers they know how businesses work at a at a grand scale of solving very difficult problem teams like if you're getting a product produced in china assembled in the united states distributed into centers around the world those are those involved hundreds of people millions of dollars in budgets so they look at the city and they go what are you doing what are you doing and so when they come up with these sort of hackneyed half baked plans and they tried to go hey trust us people are going no i don't trust you because you have not shown to be trustworthy and so the city in a lot of ways has a huge image problem with people and so they go okay well we're just gonna sue you because i don't trust you're going to get it done if there was a trust relationship between constituents in politicians in this town there would be a wholehearted endorsement of some of these things but they've proven themselves and by that i mean the city they've proven themselves to shoot themselves in the foot as often if not more than fifty percent of the time so and you can go back no further hey let's park rv's on the waterfront in ballard huge disaster you can go down the line and just name all the disasters but you can't name the success stories in so that that's the problem you and i can rattle off the disasters one after the next but we can't rattle off success story degree that i think before you give up discovery park you wanna know who's going in how long will they be in there what is the.
