"And instead of just dropping it straight down. So you let it fall in a tight line and you'll feel him hit that thing on the way down. Ah. So you're kind of working the whole water column all the way down through it. It gets to the bottom and then you kind of work it back from there, but If there's a lot of different ways to fish that spoon, so it's pretty versatile. And you know, I'm staying in the shadows colors. You know whether it's the morning dawn. We're just a plain shad color and then ah There's another teller called the sexy shad, So it's it's It's all kind of mimicking that shed. No. Um, well, that's really a fun fun thing. But we should warn people and you and I learned the hard way last year because we wanted to go over and take advantage of this. And so we We booked a trip. Uh, three or four days out. You had been over there and it was just like you're describing now. Just wonderful fishing. Nice sized fish. Uh and we get over there, and it was just a few days later, it wass over. We never caught a single fish on a spoon. And we didn't catch us. Many s O. That's how quick it can change. Yeah, And that's that's the fall. Bite it. It's sometimes a really small window. Um, but you don't know. I mean, every year is different. I'm hoping With the pendants of bait. That's in the water right now that that it kind of keeps on moving. Ah, No, and we're not seeing as many trout busting the surface, So I'm hoping maybe it's going to extend a little bit more cause. Usually we get trout in the mix, and we see them busting the surface, too. Ozio surface water temperature. It was in the sixties. So I'm hoping to. Ah, see, it's in the high sixties still, so hopefully hopefully will get down into the mid low sixties. Is what I'm going to see. But we'll see what happens with that tomorrow. Ah, a bitch. Another week's going to make a huge difference, sir. With these cooler temperatures that it doesn't take long for that, that lake temperature to drop, so hopefully it'll keep keep from pushing a shad down and that's kind of what happens. Before we will be. We run before we run out of time, which we are close to doing. Give us a brief recap of what's coming up on the fishing in the city program. Starting next week. We start our rainbow trout plants. So we'll start planting all of the plants for rainbow trout from now until April, Um, so those schedules will be listed on the website, they can keep checking the Web site. But yeah, all the pawns will start getting stock was rainbow trout. That's great news. Great news. We'll talk more about that next week because I think you probably have an event next week, right? Well, they're just stocking trap. We're not. We're not. We're not having you know, we're not guys. Okay? Public yet. We're just doing the stocking, but we won't. We're not allowed yet. Start grouping people up. Okay, we'll we'll let him know when don thank you so much. Good luck Tomorrow. The Berryessa. I'll let you know. Thanks. Don Paige Anneli. "Google machine. There the cook. Look up. There was going to say you suddenly got a burst of knowledge there that it was not spontaneous. All right. So listen, let's we'll talk about Chicago weather in the second, but as long as we brought up, uh, what's the latest on this tropical storm that's hitting the East Coast. We will downgraded overnight from a from a hurricane or tropical storm or yesterday and still looking at top winds around Uh, 65 miles per hour. A cz. The storm continues to turn up the call it a kind of a coastal scraper. It's going to be moving up the east coast of Florida. Mom. It's kind of disorganized. The main center of the storm doesn't have a lot of conviction without her brain activity. Most of the rain activity is actually to the east of the storm, so portions of Florida will get by with not seeing a lot of rain. Others will see rain is expected to pick up. And today wears on. So still a storm that needs to be watched. It's still a very windy storm with those winds at 65 miles per hour plus, but it will be writing up the East Coast. Making landfall looks like more of the Carolinas and then riding up the the Eastern Seaboard. So it's going to be with us for a while until about Wednesday. Looks like before its not going to be an issue on the East Coast. But that will not impact us here in Chicago. You know, earlier this summer we had One of those storms in the Gulf of Mexico that the remnants needed up here in Chicago produced some heavy rains. But this storm will not buy the rest here in Chicago, but it looks like this system will be remain a tropical storm. On or very low and hurricane before making landfall. So ah, minimal hurricane that worst for us here in Chicago. We've got emerging sunshine of backed out, just checking some of our cameras. We've got bright sunshine still cloudy here in the city where the heart of the city we've got bright sunshine and Crystal Lake northern DeKalb, Illinois Looking somewhere whether about cameras what my barely a cloud in the sky Geneva So the sunshine out to the west of the city is moving in. So it's gonna be real nice between about you know, now and two or three o'clock and after two or three clock, Dean, That's all we could see a shower storm pop up once again, so Nice window here of dry weather, warming, weather and a good deal. Sunshine emerging before the shower storm threat returns late this afternoon, and Ah, coverage on the storm's about 60% and that could be a pretty good downpour here and there. So look out for a bit of rain later today, but until then, well, I stay coming up here. We've got the rain later this afternoon and tonight Rain tomorrow also, is that right? Yes, and scattered showers tomorrow again about the same type of threat as a cold front sweeps across the area that can usher in the coolest weather since early to mid June. It's been a while. Almost a hint of fall to the airman moving. It's only gonna be here briefly. Don't worry. We're not done with summer yet by any stretch of imagination parts the first thing that went through my mind, yes. Yeah, it's only gonna be here briefly, but but it's it's going to be breathing. It's going to be cool Wind off the lake temperatures, maybe only in the lower seventies on Tuesday for highs, that'll be the coolest day. And then when Stan Thursday look really nice, beautiful, bright sunshine. Ah, mid to upper seventies for highs begin to warm up on Friday and the heat and humidity maybe back next weekend. So enjoy these cooler temperatures while they're here because it looks like summer will make a return next weekend. Give the air conditioners a break for a couple of days. Yeah, and your electric bill because it's not going to be a pretty 1 July was one of the hottest on record across the Midwest, including here in Chicago. And ah, just a persistent heat ever almost every day with above normal. We only had one day in seventies in the month of July for high temperature, and we got, uh, 4 70 degree days coming up in a row. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. When I stepped out of the house this morning, I don't know what the temperature was very, very pleasant. And just that, you know, touching a little on the cool side. But I thought how refreshing it's you know, it was very nice. Had the windows rolled down in the car. You know, just Ah, very pleasant morning. I could deal with that for a few days. Yeah, more of that coming North Woods there. In another note to with those winds off a lake on Monday, Monday night or Tuesday. We're going to start some pretty big ways for summertime season or 7 to 12 put weighs on the lake, which is not good, considering the lake levels are so high. So,.

Great Lakes temperatures breaking records

"You may have missed it in this extreme news year of twenty, twenty climate changes in the north are happening at a record pace this year the data points record setting one hundred re temperatures in Siberia, Arctic wildfires omitting record greenhouse gas emissions, and the Lowest Arctic Sea ice coverage ever recorded in July. Closer to home water temperatures in the Great Lakes have been running high this summer. Erik. Anderson is with Noah's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory Eric Welcome to climate cast. Glad to be here. Thanks for having me. Let's talk about Great Lakes water temperatures this year. How warm are they? So. Generally, they're about one to two degrees warmer than what we've seen. We saw spike in early July that race temperatures up. So in Lake Michigan that's. About seventy six degrees. Fahrenheit. Lake Huron slightly cooler around seventy two degrees. Lake Erie getting close to eighty just under eighty maybe about seventy eight and Lake Ontario? Kind of seventy six point five degrees I would say. Let's talk about Lake Superior why is it different than the other Great Lakes? Well, you know generally there's differences just across the Great Lakes from geographic scale of the region. So superior. Is the farthest North Lake I can see dramatically different weather than you see in Lake Erie you're on -Tario. Pursue the southern stretch of Lake Michigan. So that's one factor. It can get slightly different weather, slightly different air temperatures and winds in that region. But another key feature is just the size and the depth of the lake. Because Lake Superior so big in. So deep the cold water that's down below does a tremendous job at keeping the surface. Cool. Even when we have a streak of warm air temperatures like we've seen this summer. What about longer term trends on the Great Lakes seasonally, what trends are you seeing for warmer summer temperatures in the Great Lakes the data that we have on surface water temperatures has shown that summer temperatures in the lakes are all trending upwards. So we see warmer water temperatures over. Roughly the last three decades when we have consistent or even four decades based on temperatures or we have consistent data sets in that's on par with what we see in ocean temperature changes even may be slightly more rapid rates in it sounds small. If I, give you the number typically it's around a a half a degree for decade, but that's actually quite a. Lot of change for these large bodies of water But we're also starting to see from the data that we see rapid warming in the fall in the spring as well, which is a signature that this summer period is really getting longer. It's stretching in both directions. So the shoulder seasons in the spring and fall are are warming up sooner in cooling off later respectively. What will you be watching for for Trans on the Great Lakes and climate in the next few years? Lakes and really lakes in general are a good measure of the impacts of climate change. So they're small enough that they can. Give us a discernible, a clear signal of of climate trends if they exist. But they're large enough that they do have that climate memory. So they're they're not so tiny that responding to every daily fluctuation in whether they had that long term memory part that US to look at long-term trends like what a climate change might Britain. Eric Anderson with Noah's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory thanks so much for being on climate cast today. Yeah. Thanks for having me.

John, you're on with Dimitrius Ivory from W G and T V. What's your question? Yes. Hi. I was wondering, I listened to the radio Most of the day that I watch the news at 45 in the evening and Thomas 99 o'clock. How come They never put the water temperature. On the TV and the radio. The water temperature. What? Why do you need to know the water temperature, Life Fishing Hammond, Indiana and well if the water temperature in Chicago Lake Michigan's about 70 My leg should be a little bit higher a little bit less and makes the fish you know. Flow er. Catch more, not catch more. I don't know what I'm going to take a stab Dimitrius. What's the water temperature? Now 68. Lake Michigan. It all depends on where you are. But upper sixties I believe downtown. You know what one of those things where until folks The temple start to really get in the water and that not necessarily Christmas different, but until, like a lot of coke get in the water. It kind of had to features. It's one of those things where you have time for so much stuff, but you don't have time for so much other stuff, right? Hey, And you know the temperatures are gonna be different. Depending on where you are right. It's gonna be really lift them all, John. It's going to be different Lake temperature, You know that right? I live in Hammond, Indiana, where I fish in a park and recreation. Late. Does that make a difference with fishing? I thought you wanted cold temperatures. No, I'd rather have. Ah, maybe about 70 where the fish would really hit. OK, You're about two degrees off. I've been doing good over the weekend and today what we catching Jon, What do we got? So I guess I got they stock the lake. And I would vision cut 200..

"Knobs routed. Yeah Yeah exactly. He comes over and we shared a bottle of wine which is basically two glasses. One Guy if anybody curious And after fine I was like oh I gotta get up and so the bachelor quick I couldn't believe how much I staggered. When I got up. I was like oh which people are getting faulk not like some. I'm just going to have a glass or two a wind like no. You're catching up bud. Oh yeah so. According to this chart so the beers about five percent the malt liquors about seven. And this is what they're using to compare the two All of them Wine they say is about twelve percent. Alcohol is is forty distilled. Spirits is forty and above really depending average. Yes well the fourteen percent depending on what kind of wine you get and wish. I was into wine but toby. I'll be completely honest. My enjoyment of how hard alcohol is actually cheaper. While I was going to say your pocketbook couldn't afford wine. If my wine taste would be like my flavor tastes for Saint Ours. Matthew yellow wine tastes like I do for cigars I would never be able to think at all like maybe once every success. I think we've all go there. That's the thing. Is this late wine in in the twenty bucks bad that day. You know it's interesting. I mean yes if you get if you get so many really knows our wine well and can recommend a good pairing with a particular dish Yes I I understand that my problem is. There's something about my wallet snapping closed when they send us bottles going to be anywhere from twenty five to fifty bucks bottle of wine. You know. It's not happening. I don't care how good a pair see the issue the issue. I have a wine to as you could easily. At least I could see myself easily drinking that whole bottle if I spend sixty dollars an equality thing of like whiskey. There's no chance in hell. I'm going to drink the whole thing in one sitting there. It's just not possible for me personally to do. I'm with you. I couldn't either so like all the alcohol in my cabinet right now especially that. Kramden meant some of. Its gotTa die with me. So would you spend hundreds of dollars for a really good bottle of limit? Scotch whiskey or the way I am right now. No well maybe maybe right now during this whole cove nineteen booking kit if if might taste for alcohol was up to the point where. I could tell the difference between say like a Buffalo Buffalo trace versus like a high end Scotch whiskey. I yes but I can't so no however I can tell you the difference between a five dollar cigar in a thirty dollar cigar. There's a big difference to me a between flavor the way drags the taste in your mouth but I can't do that with a with a difference on Like still spirits. There are once I wanNA tried. That are up there Like was Appleton. A states this applejack. There's a couple of are up there just because I don't think they're made a lot And I've heard the ones to get if you can find any alcohol. That's bottling bond is the one get because it's The description I heard it's from a whole years Collection of whatever ingredients in there and so I could see spending that no I. I wish like one of the things I WANNA do. I just never did. I'd love to find a bottle of wine or thing. A whiskey that was made the year. My son was born in when he heard twenty one. It's like Harrison. I've had since you know. Get the get the distilled spirits because what they're like wine or bad by the time it's twenty you get court The year that The from the year they like you're born and you drink it on their eighteenth birthday ages. Pretty WELL YEAH. I JUST. I need if I ever did that. I would need something. That doesn't require like maintenance like with wine. I heard not only. Do you have to keep it in a special lake temperature-wise every so once in a while you're supposed to turn a certain degree in it's just like I. My life is so busy. There's no chance in hell. I would remember it to do that like I know me. I would give my son really explain Hannon's and sped him in everything that needs to there's Tannin's and sediment that needs to be moved that will settle in certain spots. That's why like you.

"Plains residents of the black caucus states mobile home park are dealing with what they say is worse than usual flooding good portion of the park is in a flood zone they're closely watching the rising river levels many basements like this one in Lincoln would also flooding from Kankakee dekalb county's many rivers and streams won't crest until Sunday time for time to tell well guys we have the new information and some new rain numbers and they are good for Saturday night Sunday but tomorrow should be nice the northeast winds as we come here tonight or strengthening and they're bringing a definitive end to what was the second warmest day of twenty twenty we have one day that made it up to eighty today was seventy nine the spread was sixty nine eighty across the metro area midway hit seventy seven little cooling at the lake front that will be accelerated by the strong northeast winds and look we're already seeing the inland lake temperatures spread these are some inland readings but you go into the lake front areas and look how we're already down in the low fifties and the winds are coming up from the northeast it's sixty four here in the northeast winds have accelerator built to fourteen miles per hour and we have a fifty three degree do point this year is drying out we had made sixty eight do points yesterday see the northeast flow it will be coming into the city full fetch so it's going to be pretty chilly and next week even though we've got a warm up late in the week we've got some very cool days to start with it's Friday the new corps of engineer numbers are in on the lake levels Lake Michigan now seven inches higher than a year ago every month since December it's been a record high and it continues that way it's thirty four inches above the long term average for may and it is three inches higher than mate levels on record going back to nineteen eighteen on this date so we continue with these record lake levels trees were high in terms of politics a moderate mold spores and grass on the low side well we're in a dry period that runs through the day tomorrow ends with thundery rain is coming in tomorrow night we've boosted slightly the anticipated rainfall we're getting some models suggesting some areas could get over two inches of rain total that be Saturday night Sunday a Sunday night even early Monday but tomorrow kind of a mix of sun and clouds will clear it was today in the afternoon with the the those percentages of the sky covered up by clouds and the clusters of thunderstorms will arrive it appears down between midnight and two AM Saturday night my Sunday morning with brief interlude of warmer and distinct played more humid weather on Sunday feeling the storms will get perceptible water values tells you how much water is in the air one point seven inches of water is expected to be in the atmosphere backstopping the expectation the ninety five percent chance of rain tomorrow night ninety Sunday and forty five percent Sunday night could even sprinkle and Monday morning across the metro area here it is these are new rain numbers and they're not good we do not want to put this kind of watered down on wet soils but it looks like we might as clouds are building up to the west and see those clouds blossoming down in Texas Oklahoma that's a new infusion of golf player there been thunderstorm watches through the day and there's a heck of a squall line going across Texas but it's the showers on the plains and the Midwest or the upper Rockies northern Rockies that marked the beginning of the systems development and their advisories for flooding and thunderstorms in the Gulf so here's how it all comes together low pressure develops Gulf moisture floods north where you see the rain areas indicated in green and yellow expanding across the area as we go into Sunday we may just briefly get in the system's warm sector before winds turn northeast on Monday they are going to blow with vigor and that's really gonna drop the temperatures and those lake breezes are going to be persistent through the middle of next week we even have a lightly breeze on Thursday so cooler near the lake is the operative term until we get warm after that and here's the rain as it lays out Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon not a good pattern that's for sure here's our forecast tonight partly cloudy turning cooler low forty six north east T. east northeast winds increased ten to fifteen during the day tomorrow a sun cloud mix but an over cast assembles by nightfall big spread and temps low and mid fifties shoreline to low seventies and a few of the warmer locations in here the official thermometer I register about I. sixty six tomorrow tomorrow night showers and storms come in late low forty nine and clusters of showers and storms and warmer and more humid on Sunday high seventy two points to get into the sixties again that's where we were yesterday and that's a reflection of how much moisture is in the air that's why we're worried about rain falls Monday maybe a sprinkle early but strong northeast winds a lot of clouds and each day we'll see a little more sun next week so that we honest here step up to eighty one by the time we get to Friday we might carry an eighty and next weekend so how about that he will be cooler the lake yeah finally we time something right yeah really thank you yeah and so I wish I had something to do with the job but you know I did it is what it is now a we guys will see in a few minutes in about Amazon's founder one day be worth one trillion dollars in new study getting a lot of attention online says you might more on that next seven message and data rates may apply if you're considering going back to school ask yourself the following "Shower producing clouds that's a high pressure that's dropping in from Canada and it will not only reduce the temperatures would bring us a lovely sunny day tomorrow with only some scattered clouds and then there are the clouds coming in with the warm front that parks across the area kind of by six the Chicago area with areas up toward Waukegan Zion can OSHA areas like that on the cool side of the ledger on Wednesday and the rest of the city getting warmer there's the cooler tomorrow and watch how the warm air comes back into the area after that and then over the weekend we mention this weather system late in the week the could come our way we're going to change jet streams there's the water flow coming in from Canada tomorrow that's why cools off entered sunny and dry but that southern jet stream comes up and develops a storm system Friday night and Saturday there actually will be a couple of low pressures that spent up in the next several days but you'll see the one out there in the plains states now in Missouri on this forecast sequence how it spins up the colors brighten up that's an indication of the winds picking up and they'll be blowing briskly from the northeast by the time we get to Friday night and Saturday that is not the direction you want to have winds blowing from this time of the year even though the lake temperature made it up to fifty it's still relatively cool and any wind off the lake because of saw look at the range you expected that late this weekend this coming weekend the temperatures you'll say go below normal Friday Saturday Sunday Monday and they're below normal next week but a little closer to average only a couple of degrees below average so here the temperatures show through the end of the week you'll see we get the sixty six Wednesday settle back to the fifties and even the low fifties at that on Saturday and Sunday but the next week we go back into the sixties again which is a little bit of improvement so we'll look forward to that all right the forecast in text form for tonight of Peary showers exiting the area in the next hour or two then clearing windy colder tonight low temperature down to thirty seven the winds will be around to the north northwest at fifteen to thirty two as we start the day tomorrow mostly sunny windy a good deal cooler tomorrow forty eight compared to R. sixty four today so that's a sixteen degree drop tomorrow night clouds return with the warm fronts approach a few showers mainly late low temperature thirty seven and on Wednesday partly sunny turning breezy and milder by lunch time it'll start cool but be up to the sixties by lunch time from about the city's south and west forties though on the north shore and then fifty nine on Thursday a cloudy day with a sprinkle possible Friday again cloudy winds will start to pick up from the east could be a little light rain that builds in the afternoon to steadier rain Friday night into Saturday morning then we're down to sprinkles Saturday afternoon and a lot of clouds on Sunday with winds continuing coming off the lake so that's again not what you want to see this time of the year because it keeps us cool but nice to you know bring these little sixty degree days along every now and then really feels good double.

period of time where we can think back and feel pretty good about where we are right now I try that all the time one area that doesn't work I realize you're mine is twenty one right now what is the authority on all right so it's you know it's but first we forget all this that stuff National Weather person's day as a Ben Bradlee tweeting to you and thank you for your service or something like that come online it in your outlook on the wallet right what do you do for a weather person on a day like today I think you buy stuff form I mean you know you asked me I I I think he I think you view by whatever you can you know of what it could get to me just what you what you're looking for if you had to sort of just kind of put it out there I couldn't live there to see what people would get Fauria I could even imagine the for the people I work with money right now you can never go wrong with good cash for people I work with your probably loaning Ben Bradlee money anyway so you probably owes you some but you know for normal fears just that day yeah I I think it's a cool funny thing I don't know why they have this I have no idea it it's interesting because it used to be whether man's day but they changed the weather person stay you know that makes sense but it's still there there is still never any exclamation what explanation why my produce it my producer printed out the weather dot gov release on this many of us take whether if information for granted turn on a light switch and you get lights turn on your TV or radio check a website you get the weather forecasts easy to forget that around the clock dedicated meteorologists forecasters are visually vigilantly working to produce the stuff for us to keep us safe and days like today we appreciate you Dimitris really do and I I think it was a famous or like an older meteorologist a birthday or something like that the truth is I think that this was because a groundhog day groundhog day I think that this was a way of just kind of saying okay it was kind of like you know that's the kind of thing Hey groundhog day okay you got all this part here is whether person right after right after that everybody's got a day everybody's I just saw that you had to stay in so appreciate your day and you know be treat hope the tree looking over there like I said Ben Bradlee open up the wild and tell him what I'll do I'll let him know to sex and when we get out there tell us about the snow that people do want to hear what's happening winter weather advisory where is that going to be S. that's like the worst of it that I too that's the worst of it's not it's not you know it's not the worst we've seen but it is that is the worst of it's going to be south by eighty so that when the weather vise re because into effect let's see about two hours and that is for areas south Philly southeast of Chicago so kinky county lake report Porter counties it expires noon tomorrow that's we're going to see the heaviest of the snow some areas four plus inches of snow I think is not going to be out of a reason that especially late tonight into early tomorrow morning and that's mainly south there for Chicago certainly not as much I think tonight one to three and I think we could add another inch or so into tomorrow if we get a lake effect push you could certainly give us an engine and plus for tomorrow but all in all I got to do for for areas kind of north of I eighty and then south of I eighty the potential for four plus and it's starting at around what time we already have some of the some of our southern western county so yeah and I think county yeah Sally those errors though they're already looking a little bit of snow at this time so it should be I think outside your office window probably by the time the sun goes down this will be a little bit quicker than models had shown so my problem I have is still moving in probably after the three o'clock hour downtown so it will affect rush hour it sounds as I thought it was later more like seven o'clock but it sounds as if it's moving a little quick that is what it looks like I don't think it's going to be heavy snow but as you know any snow affects our rush hour commute so there is I think I think it's going to affect us but I don't think it's going to be in the in the case where roads are gonna be ha or to travel it's just slow when it snows during rush hour so get used to get ready for that yeah prepare for that might be a rough commute is gonna be that heavy kind of snow Dimitris swimmer shoveling it is that the heavy stuff I'm gonna watch out for yeah I think a lot of folks are going to get away with you know not selling it at all on any two inches you know maybe I guess you know how to brush it away brush that away get the broom out but it is going to be the the I would say of the heavier variety kind of the ten to one ratio we don't have very cold temperature out there thank you gonna be stuck in the low thirties and upper twenties for the entire night so that's right where you get close to that ten thirteen one ratio area so I I do think that it's going to be kind of the the little bit heavier on the heavier side okay so be it be watching watching out for that that's important yeah did you see this is it for the Kansas City Chiefs are of you know they went won the Superbowl saying that this big the big parade there today and they're kind of getting ready to be snowed on system is kind of is is is is affecting them as well sort of moving in in there Hey there the parades going on its huge celebration the imagine if it were us we do you know funny I heard the saying like it's been fifty years has been fifty year if it has been fifty years for the Kansas City Chiefs you know spent thirty five years for us wow it seems the same context there it's it's just you know we would like to have a so you still go to the break you know down I I've I was surprised at ports of Oklahoma yeah they basically shut down the state numerous school closings there because of the snow and of course in pockets there there's only going to get more you know six plus inches of snow in pockets their but even even the universe I think it's the university of Oklahoma shut down so you know is a big deal for Oklahoma I think into Missouri yeah there is certainly going to be the potential then they're going to kind of get the worst of it because the the way that they said this thing is following the low is gonna tracks south of us so the difference between what we're seeing in this storm and I say like a last three that have come our way is that it's way more south so you in this case you're not going to have that warm air that makes its way in and really bust the forecast was self one inch of rain equals ten inches of snow well what if it's the one inch of rain then no snow yeah right it gets tricky yeah that's where history not this case we're going to be north of that so circulation so it's all gonna be snow for us okay then tell us just about the couple days ahead after the snow so after the snow you know that the events no exits the area tomorrow morning there's gonna be a push of some lake effect snow this could affect us tomorrow you know it all depends how strong the winds are coming in off the lake because right now we are certainly look at lake temperatures which is set in the upper thirty so the waters just warm enough where you will some cold air over is going to give you some snow so we're gonna have the potential for lake effect snow tomorrow that could die that's why we're seeing tomorrow morning's rush hour commutes certainly impacted that's going to be a slow go maybe tomorrow afternoon along the lake shore so come to be on the lookout for that but then after that Friday we dry out and then into Saturday maybe another little light snow shower comes our way is a little disturbance rumbles through but nothing really significant temperatures kind of going back up into the mid thirties by Sunday and upper thirties by Monday and Tuesday with rain and snow next Tuesday so that big cool down and everyone just expects to come yeah right now that's not I'm not here Reisen no and then it looks like it'll warm up enough this weekend to melt the snow will melt some of it away I mean I I think you know with with highs in the mid thirties you're not going to all of it away but I think of you know the stuff to sitting out in the sun is just if we get some sun on Sunday a lot of that stuff is going to melt if it's on pavement if there's any salt anywhere near it it's gets.

"Down there but as i say we get these eighty degree weather for some days that we should not be lying before we get with the lake back into the early sixties and so on and the wind does is bring the shoreline temperature down to about with the water temperature is well once the water temperature gets to be sixty three sixty four who cares if it cools down to that but when it's forty eight fifty two fifty three is it's bad had the situation that it's better in i get as i think i've mentioned a couple of times i get a lot of people who email me horse intellect fishing on the lake of the people email the everything and they all said the commercial boat operators are struggling this year people don't want to go out on the cold it's still relatively early we still have all of july and august left but it's been a slow start for almost all of that like yeah well you are right september is very nice time to go on the late because the water still even though the air temperatures cooling off the water now is still warmer so i'd rather go on the lake in september that jodi especially this year i mean you know right well it's probably warmed up a couple of degrees to gave it say friday of last week that lake temperature was no more than ten to twelve degrees warmer that it wasn't january the lakes thirty eight thirty nine along the shoreline and milwaukee january was forty eight or forty nine that's it you sing the titanic sunk in lake michigan or whatever the titanic sake was do you did you see that from the leonardo dicaprio movie or do you know this for a fact you look it up yeah we're you'll look this isn't like jon wyatt feeding you this seventy so when four o'clock news talk i let's give something.

"In June. This is just been kind of ridiculous in that it just doesn't seem to be getting any better. We have a better forecast coming up for the weekend. But this pattern of cold and chilly, rainy, weather hanging over the entire areas, especially near the lake but even well inland. Just does not go away in the meantime, Lake Michigan remains just frigid which I suspect is affecting the. Pleasure, boating business and just people who ought to take their boats out on the water. It's just frigid along the shoreline of Milwaukee. Lake temperatures still forty nine fifty degrees. I don't have a chart here of what it is every year at this time of the year. But that's gotta be close to a record. I made forty nine is what it usually is in late April, and, you know, the lake follows the air temperature and it starts to warm up, and it can jump up and down the current brings some of the colder water on up, but it's forty nine at the surface at the shoreline. So I imagine the middle of the week. It's still forty four forty five degrees, where on June nineteenth. What day is today? Do you know? Wednesday. I'll come on. I just I can't ask it easier question than the one on. I just asked. I just said it's June nineteenth. What day is today, soon teeth. Yes. I mean, I tap that one in free. I let that what hanging on the lip. Yes, they had, which is always a big day in Milwaukee, and the central city with observances at so on, is suspect, they're being held down by the fact that this is the first time June teeth day is occurred in winter, just awful. Really on this morning. I cut o'clock. I got out of the car in my the. Temperature. Gauge on my car said it was fifty one degrees. I wasn't right by the lake, either, as you know, on port road, where everything else is in mech. What fifty one degrees? Paul said he walked his dog with an umbrella while I. Admit it always rains. It's just spent so cold summer fest begins one week from today. On the one hand, they say summer fest doesn't do. Well, when it's really really, really hot and the weather is expected to start improving as we get towards the weekend, and be very mild. You just hope that you don't get some of those cold breezes off the Lakewood, so cold the nobody wants to go down there. But I think summer fest, actually, is poor was really hot weather than it does Philly cold weather still when you go to summer fest, you want to be warm, but you wanna like wear shorts at a t shirt and stuff. Don't you? You'd want to go to summer fest, like have jackets and sweaters and do do you now. You some people do I don't like hot weather, for crying out loud. well those people are happy they're probably wondering what all they complain about his fifty and rain this is just great stuff also then moved to alaska yeah that's what this is why i've never wanted to do what alaskan cruise this is what it is this is their summer well now here we are this is where we.

Damage was extensive to a motel and a trailer park and in eastern, Oklahoma brags is without power that town surrounded by water because of flooding along the Arkansas river. Well, in Japan on a four day tour, President Trump, downplayed the recent rocket launches by North Korea despite public concern. Turns from his national security adviser John Bolton who spoke to reporters yesterday, ABC news, reporter, Martha Raddatz says the act is actually quite serious. President Trump wants to just confuse North Korea by going against John Bolton who is the one who said these missiles, were very dangerous. And by the way, those small weapons can travel about three hundred miles and probably do violate U N regulations. So I don't know whether he's trying to confuse someone but I think the bottom line is that he wants a deal with North Korea. The summit between North Korean leader. Kim Jong UN and President Trump took place in Singapore last June. A second meeting held in Hanoi in February of this year, but it ended abruptly with no deal warmer temperatures in this holiday weekend, bringing many people to the lake beaches. But experts say it can be dangerous to fully immerse yourself into the water. That's because lake temperatures are significantly lower than they would normally. Be at this time of the year. Some of those temperatures in lake superior are in the thirties. We are only in the fifties for water temperature here in Lake Michigan, and yesterday, or rather today, Amanda Eller is recovering in Maui after more than two weeks of surviving alone. We'll head for highs tomorrow near eighty one degrees and Saturday, partly sunny, maybe scattered shower thunderstorm, late Sunday, soggy. Showers thunderstorm seventy seven little cooler on Monday. "Specially Marquel shows up and tries to run the basis. That's that's another story. I you know, what else is coming up is more snow. This is unbelievable meteorologist with the national weather service out in white lake is they've gurney, and he was recommended to us by our friend rich Poelman, he says, Dave is just the best in the business. And so we imposed on him. He said sure I'll come on. And we want to find out about the story that says we're going to get up to five inches of snow in metro Detroit this weekend. Dave, please come on. And tell me that this is this is fake news fluttering introduction. Thank you. Welcome. It. It's going to be never quite until we get into may. We have a system coming in late Saturday evening into the Saturday over period where we're gonna have accumulated snow, especially in the northern suburbs. Where three or four up to five inches of snow will be possible that'll be mainly on graph areas, those bigger relations. But if we get that much a couple inches of slushy snow on the roadways will be question either. But yeah, we're we're not we're not quite done with winter. Just yet. Now, the good news is it's over the weekend. So affected drive as much right? That's true. And you know, once we get into the middle part of Sunday it'll melt off pretty quickly too. So that's a good. That's a good point to make. So it's not gonna be snow that sticks around for a while and causes us long term problems. That's good. Absolutely not. No. But don't be surprised to wake up to wake up to some white stuff on Sunday morning to get up. So all right. So how did this happen? Low pressure system dropping in from western Canada over the next day or so and destroying in the cold air from Canada comes this way. And that's pretty much that's pretty much it right there. We just have to be on the bulls eye of this particular track of this system. So we're lucky ones. Yeah. Is there a is there a record for snowfall this late in April? It's not unheard of looking back and probably the the best notable storm in late. April was in two thousand and five around here, especially from the northern suburbs up into the area that system was bigger than this one actually in between twenty third and twenty fifth of April that year, we had a foot of snow or more from say say the Clarkston area white Laker here at the office on with you know, three or four inches even down into the rest of the metro area. So it's certainly not unheard of. It doesn't happen too often. But it happens from time to time. And and that's just the the way the weather, isn't it? It's different. That's what makes your job so fascinated. Absolutely Great Lakes is especially all sorts of stuff going on. Samples get we'll just just the the Great Lakes affect the weather of specially say this time of year. Keep so keep our springs really long and cool out of the time. And you know, our summers delayed on the opposite end of the spectrum as we head into default, a warmer lake temperatures at that time of year. Keep our or fall pretty nice weather, and he have Oklahoma delake specs no showers over the winter. We'll give you a localized heavy amounts of snow that you know, you might range from a couple two or three inches somewhere because hero by five miles down the road. So that's always tough to deal with around here. So all sorts of little up like that going on. He would be it's surprising. How much modified the weather of this part of the country. That's why was say initiate, and you just stick around for a few days of you. Don't like the weather. It's bound to change. Sometimes specially in the springtime. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. Well, it's it's a snow. That's gonna fall. So it'll it'll affect the northern suburbs. The most as you said up to five inches, and it should. But the good news is should melt on Sunday and all began. Stick around very long. So. Wake up late. You might even miss a bit. Is.

Study: Great Lakes hit hardest by climate change in U.S.

"Support for climate cast comes from Bank of America financing clean energy, initiatives and advancements in renewable energy and spurring innovation and the growth of environmentally focused companies markets and jobs. Bank of America NA member FDIC good morning. Twenty one percent. That's how much of the world's freshwater lies in the Great Lakes. Thirty four million people live in the Great Lakes basin. Now, a new study finds climate change in the Great Lakes is happening faster than the rest of the US study co author Lucinda Johnson is the associate director at the natural resources research institute at the university of Minnesota Duluth for the US as a whole to average temperatures have increased by one point two degrees Fahrenheit, whereas for the Great Lakes in the states bordering the Great Lakes that is one point four degrees Fahrenheit. And actually if you just look at the base in itself, the increase has been one point six degrees Fahrenheit over that. Period. Of the last century. So the Great Lakes is warming faster than the rest of the United States. It looks like it's also getting wetter. I saw this in the study US annual precipitation increased four percent between nineteen o one and twenty fifteen but the Great Lakes region saw about a ten percent increase with more of this precipitation coming as unusually large events what jumps out at you there in that piece of data. Well, the problem with large events is that they are just so destructive. They are distracted from the standpoint of our infrastructure and just the destruction to people's homes is is heartbreaking. But similarly, we see these large events responsible for moving a lot of the sediment and nutrients from the landscape into nearby water bodies, which has a very detrimental effect on what a quality. And we hear about algae blooms we know that lakes like Erie that are much shallower. Are more prone to those what about lake superior? I know it's a cold lake. We don't get a lot of algae blooms there. But as we wash these nutrients in and as the lake temperatures warm is that's something we might expect more of in the future. Well, one of the things that we are really quite concerned about is the fact that we have been observing algal blooms in lake superior. We've seen three blooms that happen to coincide with these very very large rain events. So just this past summer. There was a bloom around the little town of cornucopia. And although this wasn't the toxic algal bloom that we know of it is a huge concern to us to begin to see elbow. Blooms in water body, like lake superior, which is known to be very pristine. Now, we have a terse base to Konami where people in -ticipant that the water quality is going to be very clear and the thought that we might be. Experiencing algal blooms this very clear and pristine body of water is of huge concern to both the ecologists as well as to society as a whole big picture Lucinda as you look at this study, what changes on lake superior will you be monitoring closely and keeping an eye on in the next ten years or so the most important changes that we think are going to be the surface water temperatures and the number and intensity of these large storm events. So the combination of these warmer temperatures with increase nutrients coming in from the land have the potential to really change the ecosystem along the shoreline. And and we have a lot of concerns about that loosened Johnson associate director at the natural resources research institute at the university of Minnesota Duluth. Thanks for your insight today on climate cast. Well, thank you, Paul. And I. Really appreciate all of the great reporting that you joined climate change that's climate cast. Get out of the way and Wayne County shoot tap up right around thirty nine degrees. Here's a look at. Forecasts here for the day had forty degrees. He advertised now forty four and a record high sixty eight and also back in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight jelly picture, though, show some high clouds rolling in across the area. We do have some snow showers parson northwest Ohio into Lake Michigan. But that's gonna stay north of us here. And I think we'll see a dry day today. No precinct coming in until maybe maybe during the day on Thursday. So today, partly to mostly sunny, more sunshine here farther, south to go and likewise should be another decent evening skies, clearer. Partly cloudy. Six PM thirty to ten o'clock thirty one midnight temperature right around thirty lows tomorrow morning, not bad into the upper twenties around thirty here in the city twenty tomorrow morning back around greencastle during the day Wednesday. I think more clouds around will keep it mostly cloudy, but you should be a dry day against some snow showers into parts of the Great Lakes. Temperatures tomorrow, even milder forty five here in the city forty one Lafayette, fifty one Bedford also fifty one. One that comes in from Columbus. And as we ignore this map here. I forgot this set this map, I forgot to block it out. But these are some of the worst shows coming in this. Thank you. This is where the next year. One shows we'll be down into the lower below zero in someone's got all shook up when they saw the newspaper article this is during the day on Thursday, a little disturbance coming in in this bring us a very slight chance for a few sprinkles, maybe a couple of snow flurries around. And then we'll have a surge. Colder weather coming down for the weekend. Highs on Thursday, a little colder mainly thirties right around thirty eight degrees and the temperatures here on Friday, we go back up to forty six cold front comes in with snow showers. Thirty six degrees on Saturday and check out Sunday's high only right around twenty degrees or Chapman heating cooling plumbing, eight day forecast. No, major storms coming in colder air arrives on Saturday. "Wear a helmet along with their snow gear when they go sledding down those hills. Seattle's woodland park zoo was hoping to be back open tomorrow morning by eleven AM. It was closed all day because of the snow and the ice many of the animals had to stay inside today out of the cold, but you can see in this tweet some animals didn't mind the otters and mountain goats were allowed out to enjoy all that snow not at all take a look at this. This is the view along the Oregon coast pretty beautiful out there a layer of snow buried, the Santa cannon beach. You can see the iconic haystack rock in the background is a sunset of that icy landscape tonight. Well, I don't know what's going on. But this is the first time I've ever heard you talk about what was it frozen. Sea spray. Crazy watchful focal talk about Boston or Gulf of Alaska. Very rattled thing. I've ever had to put up a freezing spray advisory. So. Yeah. Things all of a sudden very out of sorts and winter better late than never sure has arrived. Of course, the kids love it. A lot of adults to look at this picture sent in by Anjelica rose her daughter there along with two snow friends enjoying swinging name the snow today what a beautiful shot there and so much fun. Another view. I think this is my favorite shot of lake Stevens. I've seen today in so many coming in from that neighborhood where we picked up a foot of snow. This is a drone a photo from Jim Jacobson there, and again, it was powdery winter wonderland and very powdery because this has been such a dry snow event. A look at some of the other amazing totals again lake Stevens leading the pack with a foot on the ground, but many other locations right up there, especially in eastern king and eastern Snohomish county summation the plateau about ten inches on the ground and woodinville about the same. So very impressive. No. New snow right now. And none on the way here in the next couple of days, but everything that has fallen is here to stay because it is so bone chilling and cold out there. We're only at twenty six degrees right now. In the emerald city. We have northeasterly winds blow eight nine arising rising barometer. That's a sign that things are quieting down. And you can see that locally from Bellingham to Olympia. That's true. But there is still some lingering snow action. They're falling around the Oregon state line, closer, Longview and Kelso just about out of western Washington. And then in eastern Washington, it's been snowing for hours, we have several inches on the ground already around Ellensburg. And back in the ACA. My you can see the snow continuing on I ninety tonight on your way pass Moses Lake temperatures, very cold. We've got twenty six downtown but most of the outlying areas just in the teens including Tacoma where it's only fifteen it's actually a little bit warmer in Bellingham. But because of those gusty winds coming through the Fraser, it feels more like we're in the single digits again tonight. Even at seatac airport. It never got beyond freezing a high of just thirty to a low of twenty five and again, we're staying in the twenty. As if not the teens overnight saying gusty troop because the area of low pressure the stormcenter that swirled the snow showers back into western Washington continues to dive south into California and the last of the snow going to wrap up here as we head into the overnight. It's still pulling those gusty winds into it though. And even as those start to ease and relax a little bit tomorrow that flood will remain mainly north northeasterly the next couple of days, that's a very cold and dry wind direction for us. So even as it dries out temperatures really not going to warm up too much as we head into the next couple of afternoons overnight tonight falling off into the teens and the twenties still looking quite breezy, especially through what come county and back into the San Juan islands gusts there between twenty and thirty five miles per hour. So that's one of those really embarrassed a wind chill reading sir coming from a beautiful Tuesday tomorrow, so many of the district's at least a couple of hours late, but some have a full snow day in front of them for Saint it. Looks like a beautiful day to be playing outside a little bit warmer thawing out into the mid thirty Sarah ran, CLYDE hill and thirty one so not even cracking freezing again around Everett, but. It will be sunny at least back into the mid thirties. Remnant? I'm oh, we'll see mid thirty s around Ferndale and back toward Linden too. But again with that icy cold wind chill problem. They're closer to the Fraser upper thirties. Low forties near the ocean beaches, lots of sunshine, all the way to the Oregon state line and eastern Washington after the snow wraps up overnight. We'll see high temperatures tomorrow back into the twenty s to about freezing. So all of that snow that's piling up that going anywhere up over the cascades, at least we had a little bit of snowfall up there as well for the resorts, again temperatures back into the twenties pass travel looking pretty similar to what we're seeing down here below which of course, is in great. We have that compact snow and ice and very little in the way of thawing. And what about another round for lowland snow later this week? We'll talk about that. And the rest of my forecast just a few minutes from now. All.
