"With us from Lake Forest Hospital is Michelle Young. A dietician Michel Good morning. We're very confused about all the news stories that have come out lately. About coffee and tea. Are you ready to help us out here? I'm ready, Bob. How are you? Well, I'm I'm caffeinated and wondering how much is too much caffeine. Well, so as far as the recommendations out there. So what, like first, some like 200 mg of caffeine for, uh, for like a person. It's typically what's in a lot of your drinks out there. Um, you know, one or two cups of coffee right? So there's a lot of factors to consider when determining how much caffeine is safe for someone. So generally speaking, an average of up to 400 mg of caffeine per day is shown to be safe for healthy person. But it isn't one size fits all. So for someone who is pregnant, for example. 200 to 300 mg or less of caffeine and suggested as a safe amount, or if we're considering someone who you know, has cardiac issues so their doctor might limit them on their caffeine intake. And then you know, you also want to consider the individual tolerance of of Kathy and so, for example, someone who is anxious all the time. Caffeine might make them even more jittery and more anxious. Or someone who is just not used to a lot of caffeine. They might not be able to tolerate much, So it really is individual on the amount of caffeine that one should in just But, you know, for General healthy, non pregnant, pregnant individuals up to 400 MG is a safe women. So the other morning I had this, uh, drink that had 200 mg of caffeine in it. So, uh, On average, a person who has a drink with 200 mg of caffeine should they have maybe the maximum of 200 more milligrams in that day, and nothing more than that. Yeah, I would say so. Just because of that recommendation. Um, you know that that's based on research and studies, so you know, spread it out. But again, It just depends on individual tolerance. If you're working out, then you're going to be using a lot more of that. It's going to go through you quicker. So you know that. That that drink that you're referring to have 200 mg maybe one beforehand? Um, you know, there could be one consumed a little later to for that energy boost, but you know it all. It all just depends. Well, what about people are like me who I can have caffeine like in the evening and fall asleep immediately. My problem is not going to sleep. My problem is waking up. So does that mean I I I have a high tolerance for caffeine. If I can go to sleep right after, uh, coffee. You know it. Could you hear that? A lot like some people, you know, like like yourself who can drink coffee throughout the day and still go to sleep. It could be that your tolerance is just increased. Right? Um, but that's you know, case and playing how it's so individual. Because you know, your neighbor might not be able to sleep for hours on end. Just having a cup of coffee at five p.m., you know, And what about, uh, Coke? Pepsi Drinks like that is there I can't remembers are more caffeine. I remember Mountain Dew had a lot of caffeine because we used to drink that to stay awake for college exams. Oh, absolutely. But yeah, with those kinds of drinks. It's both the caffeine and the sugar rush. I would say, um, but it actually does have a last caffeine in general. I'm not sure what Mountain Dew is like A diet Coke has, like 46. Mg, you know, compared to that 200 mg of caffeine and a lot of those energy drinks. And what about teas? Uh, yeah, I know. Somebody told me that you have an herbal tea. It says no caffeine, But there still is a little caffeine Is that true? No. I mean most of that. Caffeine has taken out. Um So, Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about that. You're getting any caffeine there. Um, maybe the red, you know, residue, but very little is which is better for you green tea or black tea? Well, they're all different. And the thing is, um He's all just contain a good amount of antioxidants that reduce inflammation and help to prevent chronic disease because of the accidents, and that's kind of why they They are toted as so healthy, right? Um, and green tea, in particular has been advertised as having the greatest health benefits. But there's there's been a lot of research on the levels of antioxidants in just a lot of different keys. And in reality, they all just have varying levels. And some teas have higher levels of other in accidents that then green tea, so they just vary. My recommendation is really just to Drink the tea that you enjoy. He hasn't black tea have more caffeine than green tea, Or does it depend on which it depends, but usually in the box? It tells you, um maybe some, don't. I don't think it's necessarily required. To list the amount of caffeine in there, But I have a friend who, uh, swears by. I think it's red Bull. He drinks and that stuff can't be good for you can it Unless they're a sponsor here, then there then they're not bad for you. So, Yeah, so again in general energy drinks like that. They they're considered dietary supplements. And they're not. Uh um They're not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Therefore, you should still be, you know, should Take into consideration all of that. And, you know, consumer and moderation. The thing is, they've been, um, you know, recognized as this kind of dangerous because they are advertised for you know the adolescent population. That really kind of abuse it in general. So it moderation. These drinks are okay. I mean, it can be a lot of sugar if you're consuming it on a regular basis. So we just went through this hot spell. And by next week, Tuesday, Wednesday, it's going to get sticky again. And question always comes up after you're exercising outside. Are you better off with one of those sports drinks like Gatorade or not? That is a really good question. So, yeah, it depends on how much you're sweating. So if you're sweating a lot, you need to replace that fluid. So even in the summertime when we're not sweating You're still losing fluids through your skin through your breathing, And you know, you might not even be visually sweating. So then when you're actually sweating, you're losing a lot for those sports drinks. Yeah, they can replace energy fluids and those electrolytes that you're also losing in your sweat Marceau than just water. Absolutely. Because if we're just replacing water, you're not replacing those. Some of those electrolytes that you're losing, But of course, I feel like in general, we might go overboard on those drinks as well. So you don't need a whole lot. You mean maybe just like 88 to 16 out thing of Gatorade. But then the rest could be water depending again on how much you're sweating. And of course in the summer you you do recommend root beer floats to keep you refreshed and replenished, don't you? Absolutely adamant that away. Where Covid-19 vaccinations stand in the U.S.
"Weekend. Let's talk to Dr Jeffrey Copan. Now with the top medical news. He is the chief medical officer at Northwestern Medicine. Lake Forest Hospital, Doctor Copan. How you doing? By the end of Good afternoon. Good after you knew into the listeners on this beautiful, snowy day. I know you got appreciate it, don't you? And then, then it gets called super cold. I don't know if I appreciate that as much doctor Copan, but that's the way just that's what we have to deal with. Hey, I want to ask you about the vaccines in general get a lot of things to get to, But I just sort of, you know, I feel like that's top of mind for so many people getting the vaccine and I wonder sort of big picture. If you could just kind of give us your view. It seems we have to and distribution and others could be in the pipeline pretty soon. Just where are we right now? Yeah, I thought we wish we were way had more the quantity of vaccines that were available so we can move faster and get more jabs into people's arms. But it is what it is. We know that there's more coming. From the federal government s. Oh, that will be good. That will be helpful. And we also know that Mo Derna incisor had been able to pick up the pace of there. Manufacturers, So we should be seen Morva vaccine coming from those two companies over the next month or so, so that would be helpful. Then we fully expect the Johnson and Johnson will be bringing its data from its faith retrial. To FDA that should happen any day. It will then take f d a couple of weeks. To do its analysis. Then there's an independent advisory board that will look at the data and make its recommendation to FDA and our hope is by the end of this month. Johnson and Johnson's vaccine will be Proof from emergency use, and we'll start to get Johnson and Johnson's vaccine into use in the United States, and there's several million doses that apparently is ready to go. Once they get there, okay, and they're picking up the pace of their manufacturer is well. AstraZeneca, which has been its vaccine is the mainstay of what's been used in Britain. That data in its you ask trial should be coming to FDA shortly as well. So hopefully we'll have AstraZeneca in the United States Per happened, perhaps in March. And then there's also the number of that vaccine that hopefully will be seen that data pretty rapidly to So there's a bunch of new vaccines that should be giving into the pipeline within the next month or so, maybe a little bit longer, so there's a lot more coming. So all that's good news. It is good news, and it's not soon enough, but but we have to be patient. And it does seem as if how fortunate are we right that we have this many vaccines developed in record time and making it out. Folks, right? We just It's something. Yeah, I mean, really, you know, we we've talked about this before right that it's just It's incredible what the scientific community and the vaccine industry's been able to do. Get vaccines out to us this quickly. You know, we're coming up to the Anniversary next month of the first cases in the United States, and we're already giving vaccines. I mean, we now I mean, think about this good news. There are no more Americans. With gotten at least one dose of covert 19 vaccine, then his tested positive. Covert 19. That's a great great threshold that we just passed and I was so happy to see that obviously, they're more people who's had covert infections and have tested positive. But the fact that we now control that we've had more people getting at least one dose that is tested positive. That's a great place and that should make us all feel good that we're on our way. To the end of

Exploding California wildfires prompt evacuation orders for 100,000
"About 100,000 people in Orange County are under evacuation orders this morning as the region braces for another blast of dangerous weather. That could push two wildfires into residential areas. Forecasters are predicting Santa Ana winds with gusts of up to 50 to 80 MPH at times over much of Southern California, with some the strongest expected in Orange County. Two firefighters were critically injured yesterday fighting the Silverado fired their Irvine and Lake Forest each suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns over much their bodies, according to Orange County Fire chief Brian Fennessy. I was at the hospital shortly after both firefighters were brought to the hospital. They're gravely injured. An investigation is underway to determine how the firefighters were overcome by the flames. Southern California Edison reported to the state's Public Utilities Commission last night. It's investigating whether it's equipment might have started the fire. The utility said a wire that last two telecommunications line to a supporting cable may have struck a high voltage conducting line. Silverado Fire has burned over is 12,000 Acres and is now 5% contained. Irvine Mayor Christina Shay says residents need to be ready to go as soon as they get the word. We're urging everyone to comply with the evacuation orders, please for their safety and safety of our first responders. The winds were so strong that firefighters had to ground their aircraft for much the day they got back up by late yesterday afternoon and work through much the night a second blaze. The Blue Ridge Fire started in Santa Ana Canyon yesterday and has now grown to 8000 acres. That fire near your blend is also is completely uncontained and has forced about 20,000 people to evacuate.
Silverado Fire: Two Firefighters Seriously Hurt, 7,000+ Acres Burned, Zero Containment, Los Angeles
"Well of course, story today is been the wind and eventually what came with the wind event some fires. The biggest of which is over four thousand acres burned in. Orange. County. They call it these Silverado fire it's in eastern Orange County and the area affected the most or some neighborhoods. In Irvine. They have had difficulty because of the winds using air support to help contain this fire. Burning out near Yorba Linda. But the tough news we got a couple of hours ago with regards to the Orange County fire near Irvine is at a COUPLA, firefighters were severely burned covering this for Kfi news is Corbin Carson with the latest on what's going on in Orange County forbidden from the looks on television the wind is still blowing very strongly. Yeah it picks up an in. It drops off I'm still over here at the O C Global Medical Center where those firefighters were were were abroad. But yes, as you mentioned all throughout the day, we have seen these really strong winds is knocking stuff all over the streets kicking down a flagpoles and you know campaign signs you name it it's just it's mates from for some really tough conditions in and as we've just heard that the Fire that started in Santiago Canyon. This morning is now to seventy, two hundred acres, and then the fire that I'm about to be headed to. Now that over near your Yorba Linda has grown to over a thousand acres. We're hearing that there's a possibly one structure burned. So I'm going to check that out right now, and we just recently also heard all the new evacuations for the area we got that update from division chief Shane sure would. Mandatory evacuation orders here in the city of Irvine, their impacting approximately ninety thousand, eight hundred residents. So all residents north of Irvine Boulevard from Jamboree to Bake Parkway. As well as from Irvine, boulevard south to Bianca, road from Jeffrey Road East to patrol high high school all under mandatory evacuations. Also the communities in the city of lake forest, Baker ranch and Foothill ranch are also under mandatory evacuations. So as you just heard ninety thousand people more than ninety, nine, thousand people affected by these new orders. So a lot of people being asked to move those people around those areas that are not specifically affected they are being told stay ready in case. The wind shifts or they are told some at some point to move and that people can check with their local areas too as to where to get the latest updates and make sure that they're ready to go if needed. But earlier as you also mentioned, we had a couple of firefighters this afternoon that were out there they were they were on the hand crews and one was twenty, six years old one was thirty one years old the the the hankers part of their. Clearing the line and making sure they're trying to get some kind of containment on these fires as they're moving as fast as they can, and unfortunately we heard from OC fire authority Brian Fantasy that two of them were severely burned. This afternoon here is him making bringing this tough news to US earlier one of the hardest things? Any fire chief can do is is to report. Out on one. One of the firefighter family members have been injured or. Or worse. This is. A tough for me. Tougher all my firefighters. And certainly for the families of my two injured firefighters. One of them, a twenty, six year old and one of them at thirty one year old. One has sixty five percent burns both second and third degree. The second has fifty percent. Both second and third degree burns, and so what we're hearing is currently the families are here with them at the OC global, medical center that both have been intimated and aren't able to speak and they are in critical condition. But again, as you guys in, we were talking about a couple of hours ago just these winds that have been going through this area. I. Was Talking to a meteorologist about what to expect earlier on this and he told me that Sandiego. Canyon is his right in this wind corridor of OC. In that, you know this morning he had seen and we've already heard gust close to one hundred miles per hour in different areas. He says, these wins did a complete one eighty from onshore to offshore all part of this massive system bringing snow from Canada to Mexico this week. So we're really expecting these winds where everyone's keeping an eye out and being ready to go of necessary. The

"Let's go to Maggie from lake forest Maggie. How are you? Hi. Good today. But not yesterday. Well every day that you feel good is a better day than yesterday. Isn't it? Today is better because my mother slip last night finally possibly because she was very tire because she sleeps before in not even during the day or at night. No your question. I believe is your mom has Alzheimer's, which were very sorry for you. And we're very sorry to hear. We hope she will get better. But we have a panel of experts that can give you some advice. Let's go to doctor hall of. I hi Maggie. So how's your mom's diet? My mother, I give a green juice, everyday, organic juice. Okay. And then I give her and morning. I gave her I make some oatmeal out of Qinghua. And blueberries, okay. Or in organic pear or apple or papaya because she has very hard stomach. You know, like, she gets very, okay. So. In the green juice. I rotate the vegetables every day. I don't try to not to give her the same vegetable. But so what can what can Maggie give her mom to help her with sleep and to just give her a general better overall feeling everyone? We're going to go doctor hall I and everyone can jump in here. Okay. Give her meet because so she can just better, you know? So. Okay. And I I don't give a rice or anything like that. Because also custody. Okay. So the number one thing you need to do is to take out the oatmeal for breakfast. Okay. But how about if it's made out of Keno? Keno here. And there is okay. But you know, your your mom does need some sort of protein, even if it's plant based protein with a good carbs. So you're doing the good carbs, which is good the vegetables. But your mom does need a little bit of protein for breakfast at each meal. Okay. You do need to reduce her as sugar in his her fruit. So stick to Berry's, you know, there are a little bit lower in sugar an increase her good fats in her diet like put some of KADO in there. So if you look into the Kito genyk diet, what that is is basically you eat a lot more. Hi, good fats in your diet, which your body starts burning fats for energy instead of sugar for energy, which is a better fuel for for for her brain. Okay. So that would be basically and stay away from gluten, grains, and. And and you know, which you do which is really good. Okay. Well. Oatmeal. But I don't well. If if I made Trump pin in here, dear maga- is I have to disagree with my college. Doctor holiday about away. I don't understand. I don't know. Maybe I had too many confidence more. He's the Simon Cal of her show. I know but this. Yeah. What did you say spit it out? Well, I agree with the that diet that you guessed it because if we're talking about out Heimer, we're talking about the muscle note at e one or belt ninety nine percent of the time. How old is she? House. What I'm sorry. How old is your mom? She's ninety ninety gutless shit got nine more years ago. Ten passed up assured on her own, but as the Knicks ninety years goes, I won't keep a strengthening her nerve and muscle. Stop from losing does. Now the hall. Good pond if the more protein to give her smaller poor friend 'cause her aid is better definitely agree with her takeaway breakfast credible hike rates called can always come come a little bit and a complex or form emit. They it settle. But if she goes to that catered Rennick diet, I'm afraid but all the tone. We're going to see in day year round. Her body will start burning further her muscle mass and another is already compromised. So. Possibly to asleep longer a complex carb would do better with a smaller protein on that awards. More protein for breakfast. Let's have a car to that trigger balance and stop flexing. Her state of mind at night depends on how wakes up in the morning if you wake up in the morning hypoc Elissa make which a urine test can Cal then should be eating more complex carp because many times when the brand runs out of medal of night. That's what you get that hands hitting back of your head. That says wake-up me some sugar so that complex called night with a smaller protein can be easier kidneys. However, keep the trigger more balance give her more restful sleep. You know, Kelly before we took to call you had a question for Dr Maggie. This all relates to your mom. I have a mother-in-law's ninety five who's. Going to the same situations. So all the answers that you're giving. And you're getting are great so Kelly. What was your question? My questions actually about my brother-in-law. We've been working together on a fitness routine. And he is he has type one diabetes and. Hasn't been doing anything to kind of keep himself. Okay. I mean, interesting terrible. He drinks six Coca-Cola's before he goes to bed ticket this blood sugar up, and he just has no energy. I'm so we just we recently started working out together. And the first time we worked out together we were doing some high intensity earned training and in five minutes he was on the floor. And so we're trying to work together on improving his interest in as well. And I have some things I can suggest but what what would you suggest? So definitely stay away from the Coca Cola. Okay. So that's a lot of sugar yet pay. So make sure he's eating his protein each meal. So he's building muscle. Okay. And he's having good carbs. So instead of you know, breads and us he's having three times as much vegetables at each meal. So that can go into producing energy into his body. Okay. Okay. Maggie hope we're answering your question and giving you some food for thought haha. But anyway, it's more the fact that there are experts here that want to help you and after the show you.
