Logano passes Keselowski on last lap, gives Ford Atlanta win

"Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski battled side by side cleanly for almost 50 laps. We both know we're good at this. I feel like Brad is one of the top 5 best speedway racers on the racetrack, but Logano pulled away on the final lap for the win. I knew we were going to raise the heck out of each other and I think we both understand it. We want to win. You kind of leave the feelings at the door. Towel Reddick finished third and Corey Lajoie gained his best career NASCAR finish in fourth. After that re rack after the green flag stopped in stage two is when track position became a premium and you had to just go wherever you could. By making strategic moves through the field. "If your team looks like mine, you have 5 uses left and 6 weeks to use them. And any one day can be another garage day for Elliot. So it's best to put him in there for this week at Talladega Superspeedway blah. All right, and further spreading out the picks, we're looking at the 47 car of Ricky Stenhouse. He's got 18 races run with an average finish of 15. He finishes in the top 5 33% of the time and get this in the top ten 50% of his races. He's got 9 out of those 18 races that he's finished in the top ten. He's also led a few laps at a 104 that's almost 6 laps per race there. And he also has one win at this track. His collected stage points in 9 out of those 22 tries and also one stage win. Now looking at those top tens is why I picked him, he top tens better than anybody else. Simply put this is another survival race. And it is another driver use to better spread out your picks to help with choices towards the last couple of races of the season. You don't want to run out and you want to have options as the season winds down. Okay, so there you have my three driver picks. Let's take a look at our current playoff picture here at the final half weekly. This week we have a new man on top. That is hello, man. And in second, and third, respectively, 24 chase 9 and freight train with those good scores this week. We'll them up into the top three in the playoff picture. Looking at our current points leader, Troy Clark. I'm mate from Dan under. He's followed up by sparks or flying in second place and dugong up in the third spot. Now looking at the top 12 in the fantasy league, there is less than 100 points separating. Everybody up there. It is still anybody's game. Especially considering all these issues with the tires and parts and whatnot. Well, it seems like this whole playoff season is going to be about survival. Especially this weekend at Talladega super speedway blah. All right, well, there you have it. That's this week's picks for the super speedway, and heads up, there is no practice, there is just qualifying for this race. The cars are impounded.

"Whispers of a double, though. Yeah, would that be cool, man? That would be so awesome. Indy 500 cook 600 double next year, Jimmy may attempt at he's looking at trying to possibly do it. He's also talking about a whole bucket list of items that he wants to do in racing. So I think we're going to see Jamie Johnson competing in quite a few different things in different disciplines. He was testing Alex Bowman's dirt car the other day. I saw that. Jimmy Johnson's not some dirt and this is just interesting. I think this is a cool thing. I'm actually happy to see him stepping back from full-time IndyCar. Not because I don't think that IndyCar could use him being there. I just don't feel like where he's at on road courses is a fair fight at this point because he's been an oval guy for so long and the road courses he had done. We're in a big heavy stock car. And it's just a different world when you're in that IndyCar on those road courses. And these guys have been doing it their entire lives. They aren't slouches. Even if you're a 7 time Cup Series champion, it is very hard to go into somebody else's discipline that they have been training since day one on. And beat them head to head like that, especially at the age Jimmy is trying to learn new tricks and stuff like that. It's really, really difficult. That being said, he has proven his ability on these ovals and IndyCar and I think it'll be fun to see him compete in more of those. And then go do some of these bucket list items. I'm excited to see what he does next year. We had so many things to talk about in this show. You guys already know about Talladega. You know it's big, it's bad. Lottery, wild card, all that stuff. Let's get into, you know, Bubba Wallace won this race last year. Ross Chastain won their in the spring. You could check out all the edge of your seat Talladega action. What could happen Sunday? 2 p.m. eastern on it's on NBC. Wow. Boom, boom, boom. That's good. That's good. This is a good one to have on NBC for sure. Drivers doing damn good at dagger. We begin with the points leader and we'll continue through the top 6 here. Joey Logano has three wins at Talladega 9 top 5 11 top tens and an average finish of 17.5. How about Ross Chastain the guy that everybody's saying they're going to take out at some point? Well, now they get penalized with the taking them out. So you should be running free here at this point. One win which came earlier this year at Talladega one top 5, one top ten average finish of 19.5, 7 one. Oh man, I just realized we're about 37 minutes in my right rear just blue. Oh no. That's a problem. So I got to head to the pits. Well, you shouldn't be having those tires that low to start, man. I guess my crew chief is to blame. William Byron has two top 5s at Talladega two top tens and an average finish of 19. How about Kyle Larson? The guy who's kind of sneaking his way through this thing with no controversy. He's got one top 5 three top tens and an average finish 23.133. He's not been super great at Talladega over the years so I'm sure he's probably nervous and I think he's had some engine problems here the last couple times out of Talladega. So I think he just wants to get through this thing cleanly and get through the race. Oh, my car just caught fire. Oh no. It's flaming problem. Yeah. It's those cheap crappy ass parts. Do you think you could score like a Cheetos flamin hot sponsorship if your car caught fire like that though? I don't see why not, yeah. That would be like perfect, wouldn't it? Ryan Blaney doesn't have a doesn't have a win this year, but he's got two at Talladega, three top 5s, 5 top tens, and an average finish of 16.8. Yeah, he's really, really, really, really good at these places. So it'll be interesting to see how he does on another guy who is supremely good at these plate tracks. Denny Hamlin, the guy who's been in the middle of all these controversies throughout the year. Two wins, 9 top 5s, 14 top tens, and an average finish of 16 .909. That's 11th best. There you got your stats, which means right around the corner. What's going to happen? Is it rowdy dragon? Oh, oh, before we go into that though, how about we were talking about Brad Keselowski and how good he is this place as well. I know he's not a playoff contender, but man, he has shown some speed the last couple of weeks. And you have to wonder if the guy is feeling really good. Going into a track where he has multiple wins and has shown amazing ability over the years. Could Brad Keselowski become our 20th winner of the year and become the 5th different non playoff driver to win in the 5 playoff races we've had to this point. We'll have to see. But that's interesting. All right, rowdy is queued up ready to go or he's in the green room ready to go and here he is. Rowdy dragon with your fantasy NASCAR for Talladega. Hey, what's going on, everybody? Rowdy dragon back again with this week's final app weekly fantasy update. Well, we're fresh off Texas Motor Speedway. Where it once

"Doubt. Yeah, so you throw that in there too. He's a dirt threat. He's an oval threat. He's a road course threat. I don't know much that this guy can't do. And I think that's why 23 11 made the move as early as they did to get him. And I think that's why RCR was kind of hurt as badly as they were that he left. How cool was it, by the way, chase Elliott, his car in flames, giant explosion, and he's walking away like he's in a movie trailer. That was pretty cool, yeah. That was pretty cool. But yeah, concerning man, these playoff drivers, we've talked about at this point. They have had a rough start to these playoffs. We're four races in now. I don't know, has anybody had a complete, clean start here? I think maybe Logano is the one guy who hasn't had like a bad issue to this point in any of these races. That would make sense to me. I think that might be it because Briscoe's had some rough races, but he squeaked through. To this round, but I think everyone else has had some kind of a scare. Some kind of a weird moment where it looks like, uh oh, they could be done. So this is a situation where it keeps piling on each week, but Christopher Bell chase Elliott were the ones that had issues this week. Christopher Bell had a spin because of a flat tire early. Got things recovered and was working his way back up. Another flat tire spun again pounded the wall. Couldn't get out of that one, and then of course chase Elliott cut a tire while leading as well. On the exit of turn four and boom into the wall hard car, like you said, burst into flames. They showed the in car video because NASCAR's got in car cameras on every car on the playoff or every car in the field now where you can kind of see what's going on. And the flames were actually inside Chase's cockpit, which is something they did a couple weeks ago to address. But apparently when you get a jarring impact to the side, it kind of moves things and the flames were in the cockpit again. Christopher Bell also who was leading the points just a few weeks back is now not looking so good. By the way, if you look at the playoff standings on NASCAR dot com, they have adjusted them with the William Byron thing. So he's actually out. Yeah, currently he's out, so the appeal is in process, but until the appeal is overturned. Until the penalties overturn, the penalty will stand. So you're guilty of to prove an innocent at this point. My notes here are wrong. We've got Austin centric William Byron Christopher Bell and Alex Bowman on the outside looking in. Chase Elliott, who has previously teetering on the edge there, has got 9 point cushion. He went from way, way, way good. 11 point cushion. Okay, but still 11 points is nothing to be like. Yeah, I got this. From like what, 40 points or something to the good and now just 11 and he's having issues here that he did not have a smooth round one. He had problems in just about every race. Now starts off this round with more issues. Chase Elliott, who's been kind of the only guy that's really been able to put together sustained success in this car has found himself in trouble and once the playoffs started. These aren't playoff drivers, but Kyle Busch at the wall hard. His woes continue in 2022. Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Junior, wrecked while leading with right rear tire issues, these right rear tires were the talk of the race and we're just getting to it now. Yeah. And so the thing I have, so even Rodney childress kind of took to Twitter, which these guys have all been going to Twitter now. That's the thing. Because they've voiced their displeasure to NASCAR and nothing's happened. So they feel like they need to go to Twitter and air out their grievances. But the thing I took away from roddy Childers thing was he admitted to running their pressures too low. Right. So what do you expect to happen? I understand that you want the car to handle better and you want your driver to be able to have a chance to be fast. But Rodney childress said in all of his races as a crew chief, he's run lower tire pressures than what was recommended and all but about 5 of them. And people are blaming Goodyear. I don't understand that part. That's the thing. So, and I feel bad for Goodyear because they're putting minimum recommendations on these tires. And if the teams don't listen to them, then you have tire failures. That's where we're at, although the drivers I will say, we're not blaming Goodyear this time around. They blame NASCAR. Well, there were cars out there that didn't blow tires. The very, very true. And so the issue I have here, the problem I have with this whole thing is why are we complaining if we're going below minimum recommendations? Like, Goodyear says this is what you need to inflate it to at minimum. And these guys are going, well, damn, I can get an extra hundredth of a second if I bump that down a little bit. Well, yeah, you do, but you risk popping the tire, which is what's happening. And these guys are like, well, the next gen car is too hard to handle and we need yeah, but you don't have it. The whole point of this car, was it supposed to be hard. It's supposed to have no down force. So your little tricks you're trying to do to make these things happen where you have those things, it's a reward, but it comes at a risk. And the risk is your tire blowing. So do you want your driver to blow a tire go on the wall and be out for weeks due to concussion? Or do you want to finish the race? Maybe finish fourth have good speed, but not race winning speed. You got to decide that. But to take it to Twitter and act like there's some kind of huge problem with the car based on the tires blowing and stuff like that it's just ridiculous. When you're setting the damn tire pressure's too low. Exactly. Exactly. That's just stupid. I don't even want to hear it. Up next is Talladega, then we've got the Charlotte roval road course to round out this particular round in the playoffs and Toby. Sat down with Corey Lajoie. I don't know if did you sit? Yeah, we were both sitting, actually. Yeah, it was a good time. All right, tell us more. Yeah, so hey, we're going to talk about his upcoming event at the kickball tournament, and let's go out there right now, Corey Lajoie. How are you doing? Yeah, buddy. It's been a lot of work putting together that kickball classic. Everybody has been helping out Leigh Anne and Phil from the YMCA. Those guys are

"I'm actually more content seeing the 7 in 21st lot of than I would have been second or third if they wouldn't have worked out 'cause I bet even more men. But Rick Hendrick said we couldn't win. I really warned him to win. We do the motors for him. We share a lot of things with them. And he's a great guy, and I think a whole lot of Dickerson in those guys and that was a Cinderella story. And I would have loved if we couldn't win. I wanted him to win. Because he drove a heck of a race and did a heck of a job. He looked as good as anybody in this field out there today. That might have something to do with the fact that spirometer sports runs Rick Hendrick engines and has a technical alliance. So there's a little bit of a little bit of a tie there, but I mean still Discord the joy move up in stature a little bit based on this finish. He lobbied at one point, KP to try to get the 48 ride when Jimmy Johnson retired. So does this help him long-term, do you think? So that's an excellent question. And I can answer that question, but I'm going to step on some toes. Okay, okay. I won't step on toes, but I'll say this. There are guys that have won Daytona and Talladega that struggled to drive their way out of a paper bag post other places. Okay. We're not naming names. In other words. But they're good race car drivers. Right. But they're great speedway racers. Yeah. But they're just good race car drivers. I was never a great speedway racer, so they're better than me there. And I was never a great race car driver on these other ones. So listen, I understand that. But they were, they were exceptional speedway racers. And I think Cory has proven he's an exceptional speedway racer. And I think Michael McDowell has proven he's an exceptional speedway racer. You know what I mean? And I think he's also an exceptional road racer. But, you know, that's what a third of the season, 25% of the season. I was gonna carry me the other 75% of the season. And that's where Cory has to prove himself. Yeah. That's where that's what I want to say. I want to see you take that spiral motor sports car and run in the top ten at Martinsville. You know what I mean? Because we know they're operating on a tenth of why Hendrick is operating on. I looked up at one time and you look at it and there's track house, JGR, Hendrick, and spire. And I'm thinking, oh my gosh, any of those other three teams spent more on dinner last night with fire. You know what I mean? It'll get just because they have that many more. Because they have because they have, you know what I'm saying? So when you look at the position and hold a mirror up to it, it's like, Corey Lajoie is a God for taking that car up there. And run it. It looks exceptional. And he has exceptional, because he is an exceptional race car driver. When we go to speedways. But I'd like to see more someplace else. You can say, okay. Yeah, I'd hire that guy. And as the jury always going to be out until he gets in top caliber equipment ladies. And listen, I know we're going to get to Ross Chastain. Yes, we are. But let's look at Rawls. Ross drove for a who. Gosh. In cup, he drove for like premium motors. Johnny Davis and Xfinity. Did you even know who he was? No. No, you know what I'm saying? Because he didn't have the car didn't showcase his talents. And I don't think that Cory's ever driven any card that has showcased his talents. Yeah. Then been able to. You know what I mean? And that's a plus for Corey, because when I look at him, I say, jury's still out because I don't know what you can do in a good car. So I think from an owner's perspective, an owner would be willing to gamble and look at it and say that. But at the same time, you know, go back to Ross, Ross has been here 6 or 7 years and run a 130 or 40 race, whatever he's running his total. But he's really only been in a car at the last year and a half. So Alex Bowman, you know, let's look at another example. I wouldn't believe that he was going to win 7 cup races. Alex Bowman gets a net 48 car and everybody says, man, he's running for Ricky of the year. He's been here 6 years. He's not running for tricky of the year. I do the same thing with Ross. He's run multiple seasons. Ross and we're running multiple cups. Same thing. Full seasons. What are you guys talking about? And the guy sitting in the grandstand is like, what do you mean he's been here? Yeah he's been here. You know what I mean? Right. It's such a funny game. It's such a fun business. It's hard to really tell. But I will say this. If there's an owner out there willing to take a gamble, Corey moved to the top of the list because at least you know there's four or 5 races, 5 or 6 races now that you got a shot at doing something where you can do something special. All right, so you brought up Ross Chastain's name, and that's where we're going to end up. I'm probably derelict in my duties as a journalist here that I've waited some 30 plus minutes to get to. But so much has been said already. I heard a little bit of what you said post race KP that I think essentially you said that maybe people were being a little bit too hard on him just for being who he is as a racer. Yeah, listen, I think he's a guy that's easy to kick right now. And that's how simple it is. It's like I said, if we're in the kitchen and a cookie's going from the cookie jar and everybody's gonna say Ross got it. Rob's got it, man. It had to be Ross. You know what I mean? Because that's just where we're at. You know what I mean? I don't think that's fair. I don't think we're all sitting anything wrong. I don't know who could look at that and say it was intentional and the first place. These guys are running fourth and 5th. And Ross didn't drive down in the corner saying, I'm going to take Denny out. I mean, he had damage to his car.

Elliott holds off LaJoie, giving Georgian 1st Atlanta win

"Chase Elliott threw a massive block on Corey Lajoie on the final lap at Atlanta Motor Speedway and went on to take the checkered flag under caution as Lajoie hit the wall hard and was relegated to a 21st place finish after being in contention for his first NASCAR Cup Series win Elliott said he was in a tough spot but it was the final lap and the win was on the line Lajoie said he had to make his move because his team doesn't usually get a chance to go to victory lane Following Elliott to the finish was Ross Chastain in second and Austin syndrome and third I'm Jerry

"Maybe North Wilkesboro, even though that's payment doing dirt there? And second part for Dale Jarrett, one of my all time heroes. Would you have attempted after watching practice today back in your prime? Would you attempt at the Indianapolis 500 back in the 90s? Because watching you drive that interstate batteries carve with against Dale Earnhardt back in the day. I saw Jimmy Johnson car just now and it just brought like a thought that it would have been awesome to see you take a shot at it. So I'll take that first one. So in terms of bristle going dirt, if guys like you would have showed up and actually gotten the grandstands and filled the place up then we wouldn't have had the conversation to go to dirt. Because the spring race always battled weather as we saw again, we saw we struggle with weather last year the dirt race this year at the dirt race. And it was just tough to get a crowd out there and TV ratings kind of reflected that as well. So with the new TV deal on the horizon, I think it's all all weight poles to try to get as many viewers as possible and it's new. It's exciting as fresh fans one on tune in. To watch something interesting, I'm not necessarily dirt fan myself, but if it's good for the sport right now and it seemed to be with the numbers coming in pretty strong. I think it's here to stay so you need to get used to it. Yeah. But as I said the other day, I think that it needs to go to another dirt track. A real dirt track. Yeah, fair. That's my choice. And I appreciate the kind words, Andy wasn't something that I looked at to get an income, but I did won't and talked seriously about getting in one just as a test, not to run a race, but I wanted to go to Michigan. It was at the time that they were running between two 35 and two 40 at Michigan and two 15 was the fastest I'd ever been in a stock car at Talladega and so I just wanted to go there and a test session and see how fast I could get if I could get somewhere close to that two 35 to two 40 and see what that sensation was like. Whose car would you potentially have driven? Well, my curb on cars at that time. And so that was an opportunity that I was looking at. But I got in it and it just didn't feel like that a guy 6 two needed to be in there. So I've heard that. I agree with that. Yeah, I've heard that from Graham Rahal. It's a little bit difficult when you're taller. Well, even though you're never going to race in 8500, you're going to attend your first one. I am. I'm going. I'm so excited, yeah. And about a month there, I'm really looking forward to it. So Andy was one of my favorite tracks. I loved it in a stock car and actually won an iroc race there too. We took stock car. What's your all too soon, Jimmy Johnson finishing position? I'm just going to, I'm going to be, I'm going to say, I believe he runs in the top ten for sure. I really do. And I think there's potential there for him to do a lot better than that. I think Kurt Busch finished his rookie 8 years ago. So who knows? Got a little bit time left with you, Cory. So I want to ask you about you talked about those resource management discussions that sounds like you have with the team. Are those some of the hardest discussions you have and do you kind of go to them and say, look, I finished 5th at Atlanta or whatever with a car that was as battered as I've ever driven before. Let me do what I got to do here. We can beat this thing up a little bit. Well, you can also, they can also argue the contrary as well as I could, like we finished 5th because we did be conservative as unlike the video there was a fly backwards up in the air. But if we hadn't bite at our time, if we hadn't have attacked when we attacked it at the moment we did, then we probably would have been in a crash and not finished the day. So man, it's tough because there's really no right answer, and there's no wrong answer. I upset it all the time. The only way you win a speeder race is if you attack from the start, maintain track position, control the race. If not, you have to get really lucky that the cards fall your way at the end. Cool. All right, I think we got one more call for you, Corey. We've got irv joining us on NASCAR American motormouth earth. You're on with Corey Lajoie and Dale Jarrett. Hey, Corey first Dale, you have always been one of my favorite drivers. Love sandy landy. And Corey, you just no problem. Corey, you just said that before the Talladega ratio decide who you're dancing partners are, then you go race. How do you determine who your dancing partners are going to be before you start the race for Talladega? Yeah. That's a great question. I think we've seen the OEM battles, the speedway races have almost turned into OEM like partitions of Toyota's work together Ford to work together. They have the strength of numbers because they have the most amount of cars. And then Chevy's. And I think Chevy's aren't as really stringent as to working together some of the other two other manufacturers. Hendrick obviously marries himself together, track house gun mayor themselves together with RCR. And I think a team like ours, we generally gravitate towards the teams on our kind of level of performance, like a caller grace and they'll have two cars there. Noah gragson driving the beard car will probably be in our group as well. The GMS cars is usually ones we find ourselves trapped in with. So the ones that aren't necessarily in the click. Find our own little click at the side of the playground and work together. And everybody's time to engage is a bit different. I've been lucky enough to catch some breaks and finish weld Talladega before, but finish in third, finish in second, finish in 5th, doesn't get you into the playoffs. It might be a good point today, but if you want to finish, if you want to win the race, man, you got to tighten the bells and get after it from pretty early. I think you got a race from at least the start of the third stage on. And let the cards fall where they may. All right, well, even though you're not in the click, I know you don't necessarily have to be one of the popular kids to win it at Talladega. I like your chances. And good luck this weekend. We really thank you for coming by and joining us. Man, it's been a lot of fun. Hopefully having back. All right? We will. We definitely will. So that's car lajoy. When we come back, we'll have Kyle Petty once again, and we'll be talking quarterly progress reports in the Cup Series in the 2022 season. Join us on the other side. Welcome back.

"That one phone call. What a story. I mean, that's tremendous. And so much of many things like that that Jimmy's not only for competitors, I like yourself, but for people that community that he came from. So it's just a very caring guy, along with being an outstanding driver and only hope that he can go up and have a great month of May. And so to put a period on the story, I don't know if he helped you out on this, but when Jimmie Johnson announced he's going to retire from the number 48, you kind of threw your name in the hat, I guess, put your name in the hat with Rick Hendrick. Well, if you don't ask, the answer is always no. Did I think I had a remote shot at getting in that car? Absolutely not, right? But I wanted to figure out something to stand out because I do feel like in the right situation with the right people. I could be, you know, a race winning cup guy. I would love to think so. And I think that you see a lot of guys, Alex Bowman's a great example of guys who have grinded out, get a shot with a great team and succeed. So yeah, I called Jimmy. I said, hey, what can I do? I don't want to do some phony social media thing. Hashtag and funny enough, we want to go watch Hamilton the play on Broadway, right? And they're big about writing notes, and I was like, I got pretty cool cursive handwriting. Let me Rick Hendrick a nose. What he said. So I asked Jimmy if that was a good day. He goes, yeah, dude. So I handed it to him at a Hall of Fame night. He might not have read. You might have crumpled up a photo of the trash, but it caught a little traction on social media and like I said, man, the answer is always know if you don't ask, but it's sort of came full circle. We run Hendrick motors in our spire motor sports Chevy car. So man, you never know what bridge you got across and I'm still going to still grind and they let me show up and drive that thing every week. Which is a great guy too, and he did read your letter and had nice things to say about it. And very appreciative of that. That I know that. So you're not come from similar backgrounds in that are dead, dads were very successful racers. Help hindrance, I always get that question though. I never found a negative side to my dad. Oh, then the fact that I was never going to live up to everything that he accomplished. But I always thought that as a positive thing, but how has that been for you and talking about racing continuing to this day? Yeah, I know. I've been a part of some conversations on the other side of the phone that my dad turned down several cup rides because he knew the time commitment it would be away from away from our family. So dad enjoyed being a Saturday guy, winning race is one in championships 96 and 7. And for me to be able to race in the Cup Series now for 6 years, hopefully can get the little joy name in victory lane on a Sunday afternoon is my ultimate goal because I know what my dad gave up, right? And so for me to be able to do that and raise a family of my own around the garage, miles mango is to win a Cup Series race and it's a light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully the tunnel is not too long, but it's certainly a grind, but I think it's possible. I've got both of you here, so I'll just ask 'cause I'm curious because you said it DJ mean help or hindrance and I look at it and think it's always got to be help. I mean put the cries of nepotism aside, which I'm sure you're going to hear, but is it ever a hindrance? Because you're so ingrained in an industry where it's so important to make connections and be able to talk to people and be able to lead on people for help. Man, I can go a lot of different ways with it, but I look at guys like Matt Martin, who Matt Mark, if your dad, why wouldn't you give every single opportunity to your kid to race? Him and I grew up with the same age, race and bandoleros. He had, he was sponsored by Gatorade. When I was 12, I want to be Matt Martin when I grow up. And almost burned him out, you know? So my dad gave me just enough. He knew what buttons to push to keep me motivated and knew what to piss me off enough to I put my head down and get to work. And I think one of the common misconceptions is that I'm sure you're the same way is that my dad gave me everything. I was working with the best people driving the best cars when my dad they went the swung the pendulum the other one. He was like, man, I'm going to make you work on your own cars. I'm going to make you cultivate relationships. That way, when you get to Sunday, you can get the job done. Yeah. Much the same way. Yeah, I mean, people just assume that our dads were successful race drivers, they had plenty of money, so they set us up and it was far from that. You know, I didn't know anything about a race car and started building started working on them and learned that from the ground up. I also ran the business. I'm sure you did too. You found sponsorship and you paid the bills. And that's what we did. Yeah. Certainly interesting story. I can't relate, but I love hearing about it. I think the fans do as well. And I think we've got some more questions on the phones here on motormouth. Let's talk to James. James, you're on with Corey Lajoie. What do you have for Cory today? Hey, Corey, how you doing? And I wanted to ask after 14th place finish at Daytona, as well as your 5th place on the newly configured Atlanta Motor.

"Media member in syndicated radio host of all things the final lap. Our co host of the show. Toby Christie, founder and editor in chief of Toby Christie dot com. What did you think of a Corey Lajoie there on the program? I don't think I've ever talked to him. I think you have. Yeah, I've definitely talked to Cory before. That was a good interview, man. You did good. I think the solid start to the season. This is what our second new fresh interview of the year? Yep. Second interview of the year for fresh stuff, no more of that old stuff. We should have called it that. Yeah, that really paints a good picture. We fluffed it up and called them encore interviews. Yeah. Now it should be regurgitated crap. Time filler. So here's a cool thing, Carrie, I don't even know if I told you about this. But this week, Monday night was the season ending race for the season four. Monday night racing, rowdy energy pro series season, which I sponsored David shield house in. Okay? They had their finale. This was the first time this has ever happened, but an iRacing event live at the Charlotte eSports arena here in Charlotte, North Carolina. I went to it. This was an amazing event. It was awesome. So you get in there and they had the four championship four guys up on a stage with their rigs up there. And as you're walking through, they had another 1516 or so drivers that were there racing in person as well. On their rigs off to the side and it was a really cool thing. Wow. It has about 200 people turn out. This thing was full, they pretty much sold out. It was an incredible event. We got to go on stage, talk about Toby Chris dot com and stuff a little bit and you did. Yeah, got to mingle. I mean, it was a good time. We had a great time, the event was awesome. Any video of that? There is some video out there somewhere. I'll get you on stage, I guess. I want to see that. Wow. Yeah, so it was a good time. David, unfortunately did not win the championship, but he led the championship for the majority of the night. And then in the closing pit stop, Adam Cabot pitted a little early or a little late, so he had fresh retires down the stretch and passed David with a few laps to go..

"Looking ahead because you're going to keep adjusting your notes and you're going to keep learning stuff with this next gen car to apply something new each and every week. So this week I'm preparing for LA next week I'll prepare for Daytona for a couple of weeks and look back at previous race notes and things like that to maybe they apply to this new car maybe they don't. Can you remember a season where there has been this much excitement? I mean, we have the. We've had schedule changes, but I mean this season is like next level. NASCAR's throwing so much stuff at us. It's my head spinning. It's great. In my, you know, 6 or 7 years being around the sport being familiar with it, granted, I grew up in it with my dad being an Xfinity series champion, but really, truly paying attention to the Cup Series. I haven't seen the excitement level be anything relative to what it is this year with we saw the other day that Floyd Mayweather is going to be having a car to be talking about hundred. We've got MJ and Danny ham. I mean, there's so many there's so many new things in NASCAR and the energy behind it with the new TV deal and things like that. So I think we're going to continue to build on this energy. We've got as a sport and I think that there's only onwards and upwards for us over the next foreseeable future. And back to your podcast stacking pennies, what do you guys plan how far in advance do you plan for topics or did you just crack the mic and go for the best? Yeah, we usually prepare for a solid four minutes when we're sitting around before we fire the mics up and kind of what makes it good. You know, we just kind of come off the hip and we'll have a particular topic so we want to throw around and get some different ideas, but we're sitting down and it's off the cuff. None of it's scripted, none of it's really planned. So that's kind of what people seem to enjoy about it. Yeah, absolutely. All right, his name is Corey Lajoie. He drives the number 7 for spire motor sports, host of the podcast stacking pennies with Corey Lajoie. I appreciate the time and the best of luck. The season, the 2022 season and we'll catch you next time. Appreciate that, have a Dylan. Like us at Facebook dot com slash the final lap. Like us. The final lap weekly is.

"Really appreciated the insight into just again. How he approaches the podcast and siriusxm interesting to know stacking pennies as i said is the podcast name but if you followed corey and the podcast for awhile you might remember. The one last year was sunday money and that was through. Marin this year was stacking pennies. He has teamed up with nascar dot com chuck bush. Jonathan merriman and ryan skip florez. Who has a tire changer for brad kazlauskiene team penske. So it is a different podcast. Because he was doing one last year. So from sunday money to stacking pennies and a nephew. Follow corey or know much about him. You'll understand we're both of those titles came from so thanks again corrie for coming on the show. Thank you to lee an eagle for connecting us and getting scheduled to talk. I appreciate that as always another note about our conversation. Coroner recorded a couple of weeks ago and about a day or two. After we recorded this conversation it came out that he had been in close contact with someone who had tested positive for covert and he missed the race at michigan. So if you're wondering why maybe we didn't bring that up just to discuss it or why. It wasn't a footnote or something. It's because we recorded just a day or two before that happened. So i don't know if it means anything in the grand scheme of compensation but just a little background information there but everything's well corey's fine and healthy. He missed. The race in michigan sat home and watched it. I think he engaged with all of you on social media. While he was watching the cup series race came back. A daytona had a fantastic run. In that seven car was in contention. I think even led some laps wanted to go up there and flex his muscle he did. Just that and was in contention late of course. Superspeedway racing can be as cruel as it is beautiful. And that's what happened to corey. Didn't walk away with the wind but he definitely got a lot of attention for himself. Spire motor sports as well as sponsor. I think it was built bar. That weekend was really cool to see all right. I hope you enjoyed the conversation as much as i did. You know by now. Hopefully that you can leave a rating in review on apple podcast or wherever. You may be listening to this if you have that option. If not find me on social media very easy to do my handle. Everywhere is just my name at kelly crandall on twitter instagram. The public facebook page. I stressed that a lot. Because if you send me a facebook friend request on my personal page. It's going to go on answered. I am never over there. I can't even tell you what's going on with my family or my friends. Because i don't use facebook in less. I am over there.

"Podcast is not really focused on racing. Corey has spoken many times this year about what's going on with his team so i wanted to instead focus on his side job. I guess you could call it. Corey is doing his own. Podcast called stacking pennies. You can find that on apple google wherever you may listen to podcasts. And he's also done a lot more sirius. Xm nascar radio this year as basically a permanent fill in hosts during the fox portion of the schedule for larry mcreynolds. When larry mack was needed for his fox duties on tuesdays. Corey was on the radio. Alongside daniel trotta so the focus of this conversation as i said is on the media work that has been doing because i've just been fascinated on how he continues to find ways to interact with you the race man as well as offer inside information on the podcast or the radio and just sharing more of a driver perspective. So that's what i want to talk about. And i was actually really impressed with corey. Saying it's become a job for him. The work he puts in particularly with the podcast so again. That's what we focus on today in this conversation with that let's anymore time. Here is corey. Love joy on the racing writers. Podcast.

I feel like you know marcus in bruton entered by a semi. They're not scared to swing the bat and take chances and lot of times they. They're making the right choices. It's going to be a lot of variables going to a brand new track with brand new car And you're going to be hall in the mail around atlanta motor speedway now system be pretty well okay so real quick we only got about a minute left the way you look right now. "With them. We see austin dillon. We see tyler rettig. We see eric jones. We see so many of these teams that are chevy based teams that are having great runs and having solid daniel schorr and track house race. And you see these guys. They're having just solid. And that's the chevy camp so you know we talk hendrick but it's chevy at the same time and again here. We see in some shots of race. Like i think that gives there especially with kyle recently but to your point it feels to me is if until you have somebody besides kyle busch winning and crystal real chris. Sale finishing second is impressive. But until you have somebody winning regularly it is still a hundred discussion. Look if we if we just sat down and look at if you just sit down over the last the last six races six or seven races and just look at stats of laps led how many times their cars have finished in the top five. How many times records finished in the top ten. How many laps they've led. How many quality passes you can go through all those stats. Okay but if you put them over here this is the table is going to cave in under the hendrick weight of what they done and this side's not over under everybody else nobody's been able to penetrate that on a consistent basis and that that for me is the big telltale side is they just do it week and week out and nobody even though you get to reveal that slides in there and run second even though you get around blaney or you get somebody will pop up in there. Oh yeah but third. Is we embarrassing. But fourth is whatever it may be. So they're still there. Those four drivers are capable win each and every way yet at hendrick motorsports right now no question. of course. A lot of discussion Let's talk to an expanding series driver. I think we've got austin syndrome. Both races at road america hill. Join us when we come back after the break here on nascar. American motor mounts..

"Does not surprise. Me braced slinger. I've raced at some of those short tracks up their stock car racing as may have been born in the southeast and we may consider nascar southeastern sport and a lot of ways even though. It's an but the hotbed is wisconsin. And minnesota dick trickle dave markets. Alan quickey magazines. We can go on and on of the guys who have come out of there who have had an impact on nascar. That fan base and those fans are there they. They're passionate about motor sports. They're passionate about nascar. they watch it. They believe it. They pull for their drivers. So one hundred thousand people come out incredibly excited for me. We saw to kyle. Larson fans actually chose that moment again gauged as well. Dj chase elliott talked after the race. It kinda caught them off guard as somebody who grew up in georgia rarely spent anytime wisconsin. The amount of nine year he saw but also just the again the amount of passion for nascar to callous point. I guess we won the championship. That was when i sort of understood that they raised nightly yes up there in a way that you know. Maybe they do here in north carolina area. Did you know about that growing up in this area. Did you know that like yes. Everything's stockcar racing is synonymous with the south but there was an outpost up there in wisconsin. That has a lot of it too. Yeah i knew some of it. And then as i got into my career and got the opportunity to go in that part of the country and get into some of the tracks. You understood that that's no different than what we have here. In south matter of fact they may be more passionate about it on weekends going to these short tracks and the big events that they would have up. There were incredible the driver that they withdraw from all across the country. Which just unbelievable. And you knew when you went there to race that you were going to be racing the best of the best from everywhere because they paid enough money and you went there on a short track and every good short track racer great short-track racer was there. So i got the experience that and see that first hand and so that was the first opportunity i had then when i retired and started doing tv and had the chance to go up and do the finnity racist at road america. Oh my gosh just you know. Walking around seeing the people that were coming out for that going to the little towns. They're just the passion that they have four this. I've always said and told my hilton. This a number of times if you can ever get a cup race there. It'd be one of the biggest things to ever happen. And i think they turned out and showed that this weekend and then chase elliott but on the show that they wanted to see man coming from almost the back of the field.

"Take a look at this graphic that sort of explains that atlanta twenty eight degrees charlotte of course it's been around forever mile and a half racetrack charlotte speedway twenty four degrees texas twenty four las vegas twenty so atlanta really goes into like its own category in terms of mile and a half tracks and i asked marcus about it. Roddy children's said yesterday that he believes again remains to be seen someone because of the next gen carbohydrates variable but he believes this could be flat on all the way round and create pack racing superspeedway daytona talladega style racing at a mile and a half crack. Is that is that conducive. I guess too good racing. Do you think that's something that the fans i mean. Those are four races that we have daytona and talladega every year. That are totally different. Is that something we want. More of. I can tell you. The drivers aren't going to be happy. And that scenario just because it's so stressful. But they get paid good money for things to be stressful. That the the key is is that what the fans want to see in is that what fox and nbc are putting their money towards To to support a nascar racing and to make pack racing and had that a lot more. I mean it is highly entertaining to watch. I'll be honest with that. But you know gotcha talked about saving the owners money in the long run with these cars while hell we're gonna tear what they're able to save. Go do pack racing every weekend. Remember when you tore up the most stuff all year long at bristol. Martinsville now is talladega and daytona. But and i say this. I say this in this kind of way as i can if we're sitting here trying to predict how they're going to raise take it with a grain of salt. I don't care who says. I don't care if if running children's says it i don't care for ever him says i don't care if the france family says we don't know we don't. I don't think we know we all. We all looked and said well. This is the way the car tomorrow is going to be. Well this is the way the gm ford the jim. This is the way these cars. They didn't work that way. Nothing has worked the way that we predicted. Are we thought we talk about racist. Sometimes men are going to run the strange check. This is the kind of race. We're going to see you know what they'll do pre-race we can eat crow at the end of the day because is not a way we said it was going to be because it just changes so. I don't think we can predict yet until we see what this car. The next gen car how it races. How how it reacts to these transitions how it reacts to the arrow until you see it. I i don't know and that lack of uncertainty jamie and there has been some feedback and driver's car. Larson said he wished you know maybe they had talked to drivers denny. Hamlet i side as well i mean is that just kind of maybe a natural reaction from drivers because they don't know what else is going to be like and they'd just like to maybe have a little heads up. I think they would like that. You know just to get just the common courtesy of saying. Hey what is it about race tracks that that provides good racing that you'd like and give them a list of tracks to say. Hey give me your ideas about each of these and what we should do and and just consult with them. I think is something and you know. I told you earlier to the best racetracks that people talk about having great racing over the years. They consulted rusty wallace on both of them that i know i think richmond actually consulted more than just rusty. But that's one of the best short tracks that there has been for great racing and then the other one was our speedway and we've seen the type of racing that is provided for the expanded these series for different series there even the indycar series of putting on great racing there and that was solely designed by rusty wallace. So drivers do have an idea of what could not just what suits their style but but what might provide some good racing. So i think they should at least talked to them about it and marcus said that they consult some admits to maybe. What kyle larson. Yeah okay so listen out. Though it out there there was a driver council. They would've been consulted if there was a driver council but the drivers council that. I'm sorry. I put that back on the drivers in some way shape or form. But you know i look at i look at at some of this stuff that we're talking about and you look at this this race track and you look at how they're trying to do something and there are certain race tracks you know and i'll go back to this and i'll go back to this. Do you think they consulted. Richard petty david pearson. Ko or bobby orr dining when they went from the big money. Carlos the little buicks in eighty and eighty one. They said no bill that car and show up down here. We're going to race and that's the way it was. We're going to raise these cars. And i'm still a little bit of that. Old mentality is these. Are the rules. This this is the field. These are the rules. That's the ball. You wanna play play. You don't wanna play. Don't come and i don't care it's no skin off my back and i'm sorry that i don't live in a world where you have to consult with everybody. You know what i mean. It's not a group decision. Someone has to make a decision. Someone has to pardon my french sack up and make a decision. And i think these guys have said this is what we're gonna do. You can either come play or you don't have to. You know you can sit on the sideline and complain about it on social media all you want to or you can come play the king bobby. Allison david pearson. My bad they showed up and tracks. They'd never seen before what it was and we went ryan. Yeah we went to daytona with those luke cars and they flip those things down the backstretch. Those things were on the roof and people were like man. We can't drive the short cars. We can't drive these narrow cars they get on the roof but you know what they figured out a way. They made it work and some of the best races at daytona. Where we're through the eighties and early nineties. The decision has been made. Like i said exactly how it turns out next year atlanta motor speedway in the meantime more to come here on nascar. America we'll talk some drivers from racing atlanta this weekend on motor mounts. Are you tired.

"A lot more thought through a lot better process than what we can can can wrap my head around. Yeah i in this world and we talk about how racing and and for racetracks to be designed like this for the this specific cars Something that i can't even fathom in mind cause i'm not smart enough to do all of that if it works at the gosh the what it opens up is just incredible Some people are gonna have to open up. Jen books to change but if it if it does present and bring us what. We're what everyone wants to see. And that's great. I mean there's always going to be racist that are better than others. I don't care what you do so that that's not going to go away just because you designed his track to to match up with these cars because you're gonna have drivers that are better than other drivers so things are always going to be that but but this does work and it's just it's fascinating to listen to that versus what i just read you know and so i look forward to seeing how this work and i hope. It's a huge success. Yeah i i will say this speaking about an and you hit the nail on the head you talk about the track designed to the specific cars. That will be racing there. I think the last time that happened was in nineteen fifty darlington when they ran the fifty mercury fifty. That's because that's the car the day and they run one hundred ten or fifteen miles an hour and that's what that track was designed for it to run one hundred ten or fifteen miles an hour. No matter what no matter what i think. I don't think you'll get an argument from fans or drivers or anybody out there. S emma is moving the needle. They took a race from texas. They gave it to kota. That was the least deal. They don't own code. They leased the race traitor. They put dirt on bristol. They're changing this racetrack. They're trying to do something they're trying to do. Something for the fans are trying to do something for the sport. They are attempting to make the sport better. So my tip of the hat to market smith and that whole organization because they are trying to move the needle well to dj's point mile and a half racing race tracks have been a huge part of the discussion nascar and quality of racing last twenty years. And your point to marcus or question there about you know what kind of repercussions could this have. If it's a success and this is a racetrack like really any other in terms of mile and a half where you're increasing the banking to twenty-eight degrees versus a lot of the other racetracks in nascar.

How can I successfully pre-launch an online business?

"Product launches have have been around for some time even before internet businesses you can remember when the iphone was launched on windows ninety five was launched and before that launched there's something called a prelaunch this is preparing for the launch this is collecting and gaining the interest of potential customers before you launch why because an audience is really what you need in order for you to have the most success launch as possible the large the audience the better chances of success and of course targeted audience you want people that are interested in what you will potentially launch in fact there are people that are experts at this and made aid their whole living in business at of the idea of a product launch and in that sequence is the prelaunch the expert on this topic is jeff if walker he became a popular or famous because a very successful online courses launched called product launch formula but he also released a book recall launch i really recommend you pick up the book because the book covers the main principles of his idea of how to launch a product including the prelaunch relaunch and we'll give you a good foundation without necessarily needing to buy the full two thousand dollars course of course you want to go deep you can go ahead and buy the course later on but i would say pick up the book as your first step but in today's episode we're going to focus on the pre lajoie prelaunch does is it allows you to start seeding or what's called old planting seeds in your audience to allow the flowers to grow in the flowers is obviously the product launches what you wanna do you wanna drip feed information nation insert educating your audience about your product your service your business and this could simply be done by having a simple landing page the talks about your product it's about to launch and why they should be interested the simplest form of a prelaunch is a landing page with a video in the three long it'd be five ten minutes walking people through this new business this new offering and then the call to action is hey leave your name and email address to sign up for updates for the launch and for a launch offer or discount or bonus you're really incentivizing them to sign up so they can know as soon as the product product launches you might have a window during the launch like a week or two or they get a special offer and if you don't wanna miss that offer you wanna be on this list and this could be bonuses this could it'd be special coaching or mentoring this could be early access whatever it is the point here is is that you're trying to attract people that would want your product before you sell the product why because when you launch you want to launch people you wanna launch to you to an audience that wanna listen to it you have to have to say about about this product and if you have an email list prior to that this will really help you create that buzz i recommend pre launching about three weeks before the actual actual launch so this means are posting on social you're maybe running some ads towards that page so they can wash video and opting for updates and in in that update you wanna send an update at least once a week talking about another feature of your business in the future of the product why they're gonna wanna buy come launch day what are the benefits fits of signing up early all that kind of stuff this is the simplest form of a prelaunch some people do this a little bit more elaborately so they'll have not just one video but they'll have have three or four videos and each video will be released each week before long show let's say for example you're launching three weeks ahead then you'll have three videos one will be ready right there on the page and then the next one will reveal itself after the week goes by the first week goes by and then after the second week the third one comes out and then of course come week three you launch your product and of course this launch page will no longer exist after the launch the patriots needs to be forwarded to the actual homepage of your business of the product now you might be thinking well what's the point of prelaunch wanna just launch and just you know tell people about it and hey by the product well people need some time to think think to wrap their head around your product to be convinced that they need the product and this is what the prelaunch does educates them about your product or service your business what you you do what are the cases they may need it or the situations they might find your product or service useful they need to be convinced of the value you know your products have a price they're going to try to make a decision is worth my money and the prelaunch those videos and those emails their job is to convince them of that and by doing doing this before you launch they're ready to buy come launch there's no convincing anymore you've done all the work so come launch day you have buyers now not not everybody that signs up to that newsletter or that optin on that launch pages going to buy but the point here is that a good number of them a good percentage of them will and knowing that and knowing that it's a numbers game you wanna get as many people signing up for that prelaunch list you can also include in that pre launch sequence a webinar elected to this allows me to interact with that audience and build some trust and report but also to answer their questions they may have about the product this product work for my businesses product worked for this situation relation remind needs and you're able to answer those questions so they're all yeses and you breakthrough all the rebuttals and all the what if and does this work for me questions so come launch day the ready to buy i sometimes running a webinar before launch and then one on launch day so i actually say it's launch orange day jump on a webinar with me jumping ask any questions you have this kind of last chance for them to kind of clear up anything and at the webinar they can just by all the weather or 'cause it's launched some people have really elaborate product launches and a prelaunch where you know they save you sign up today you'll get this discount you sign up today you'll get this bonus some people have on lunch the day of launch day one we're giving away these bonuses come day to a different set of bonuses day three you only get this with this to encourage people to really check their email and know exactly when launched a is in the sign up on those days a second third chance to get something special when when you sign up early if you listen to this show you heard me say a billion times one of the most important assets in your business is your audience and when you're starting a business and you don't have an audience yet this is what the prelaunch four is allow you to have somebody to speak to to sell to offer your products come the day you open your doors there's nothing quite like that a feeling when you actually open your doors and you have buyers versus when you launch and crickets right you don't want that feeling you want people to actually check out and give you money in exchange exchange for the value offering them so eric who's asking the question has a subscription box business one of the things you could do with launches say hey you're part of the prelaunch launched list if you're on this list at on prelaunch before we launch when you buy you'll get a limited edition box or limited edition special founder's this kit or founders bundle and we're only giving those two the first hundred people so this allows people feel special there some scarcity here and they get something that nobody else gets you could do something like have a founders facebook group only the people that sign up during prelaunch and then by during the launch will be part of this this exclusive coaching group on facebook and that's not going to cost you anything but they get exclusive access to a small intimate group and he feels special they're early adopters now just because you launched our businesses i mean you can't do these strategies you can definitely do them with any new products or services you launch make make a big deal out of it this is a chance for you to market and bring in new customers and get your current customers to share until other people about the launch
