It doesn't have a stock any sort of park drive. Neutral doesn't have any mechanical way of doing it on the touchscreen. There's a slider were you. Were you with your finger up for dr slide down for reverse now. The car also tries to figure it out for you you pull in your garage at home. Let's say take sunny to a game and there's a fence Right it doesn't really kind of figure out the fence. So it's a little hokey and i did see videos of people trying to just do a three point. Turn walls right. So you're you're spending this thing around with the yoke and you can't grab the top and then you spin up then yeah slide up and you've got a slide down and you know if you're in a rush because you're in the middle of traffic the it would bother me for such a such a smart car. This is a kind of a dumb thing but that being said incredibly impressive performance we have a sedan away. Tesla will return to the ‘Ring in October to try beating Porsche’s EV record
"Porsche versus tesla part two so we went over you guys you you're probably listening the last episode of the podcast where we talked about porsche tycoon am i'm trying to say correctly now porsche ticon is the way i'm supposed to take on a porsche haicang abbott porsche porsche but we all saw that announcement and i don't even know if i can save they technically took any shots at teflon stage but everybody knew that every time they compare themselves to air quotes the competition they were talking about tesla model wasn't the chevy evil it wasn't the chevy volt they didn't really make any nissan leaf jabs onstage they were kinda gone squarely at their high-performance cousin so that happened and you know those kind of silence and there's a little bit of you know people tagging eli like hey what would he say about porsche and i think he did say something like yeah why did you put turbo on the name i don't think that word means it means obviously in this electric car battle but of course the the competitive of nature of a of a competitive CEO just couldn't stay inside and he had to start making moves and i'm sure a lot of this was hush hush for a while but now they're officially working on some new hardware for tesla and i'll probably call this a refresh ya to take on the ticon to take to take the take on take on the tight to make moves so here's what i'll start porsche was bragging about their laptop about the nurburgring right uh-huh thirteen mile tracks something like that very very long lap difficult for an electric car to lap without cooling kicking in limiting performance so they set their record around the nurburgring and a lot of people turn their heads back to tesla like yeah well what are you going to say what are you gonna do like the the porsche is going to be better at driving around tracks than you yeah we talked about it in the episode where we talked about this tesla hasn't been able to do it because it's a grueling track yeah and a huge car so yvonne tweets that the model s. is gonna nurburgring okay like you when you a lot of people don't realize this about the track runs as you don't just show up in your car and just go go and time yourself like this is a this is an officially timed thing you hire professional driver who knows the course well so that he can set your optimal lap time time if you go look at the the best lap times around i think it's both laguna seca and nurburgring but if you look at laguna seconds top like thirty laptops mhm about fifteen or twenty of them are set by the same one guy or in a bunch of different cars which is fascinating because this person knows the ins and outs of the tracks so these race car drivers are hired to yo to go drive and set the best possible app time in that car so you tweet this model ascona nurburgring next week and then a bunch of articles come out afterwards like he tesla doesn't have a reservation or any sort of setup or scheduling to actually do this so if they're doing a record run nurburgring doesn't know about it which is kind of a perfectly aligned thing to happen oh yeah but then shortly thereafter this the shorter track called laguna second am i saying that right i'm gonna just mispronounce a lot the things during this i think we'll bruno's right well it's so laguna seca shorter track it's about a minute and a half to lap maybe up to two minutes and he shows a model title s lapping luna secca in a record for four door car one minute thirty six seconds the the tweet is actually from the tesla count this time and they let me actually read the tweet 'cause i was we were in the airport when this tweet came up and i've been sort of just on the on the fence about whether or not tesla's going to refresh their cars and then i saw this in my timelines let me read it so the tweet is some personal news we've lap laguna seca in one minute thirty six point five five five seconds during advanced RND testing casting of our model s. plaid powertrain and chassis prototype that's one second faster than the record for a four-door sedan and he can see this video of of a driver from the driver's perspective and through the front of the car and if you squint you can see there's a model three steering wheel on this car and as a driver ever in helmet assuming not his first lap but he's doing his crazy fast

And it's it's for one person really as opposed to get in a Stromboli for you know, what I'm saying. With a Stromboli. It's very long get a cut it off. It could be there. It's sitting your fridge for days. Now that right. I know but the cows zone is meant like a one time deal. Just here. It is. Here's your cows zone Edith, finish it you're done. And I like the Cal. Plus the hero from the waffle house shooting Ellen today at three on NBC four, then news for breaking down every twist of the DC mentioned murderers. You give me DNA. You can take that to the back and uncovering evidence that could change everything. So you think there might be someone else a news force special event tonight. It's six thirty. Thing we're in the business again fast, and so the teams and the push it to the absolute limits and sometimes ever and that that's what happens. Just just merged into the into the family thing, the hold alone. I'll even Barrett for that, right to Greece dot intense mania. Some like that. That just is an acceptable from the rice treks across the strategy at he is inside super supercars. Welcome to this week. It's tiny. Talk on regularises spec. Get with Craig. Reveal an interesting weekend, Greg, quite we can with father day and also hype. Everyone enjoyed they Father's Day a weekend. If it were applicable to them modest sport wise because we had India in the states with Scott Dixon closing Nava title that we had Daniel Ricardo and forty game retiring morass. There was some domestic racing young on here, which happened Winton with production cars, good to see grant Denia and Tony del Buto, showing speed and winning. But we're getting ready county up to San in two weeks time and it certainly looks like it'll be interesting rice zig, be showing plenty of form and obviously not quite the rookie card. Anyone thought it was going to be, and it's. Going to be a fascinating weekend to see if those drag strips at the grandstand and the fireside do provide a noticeable assistance to any of the guys out there. And of course, it's also Pat of this. Farewell. The falcon tour that everyone's on. And in this case it'll be falcon Zine old. Falcon liveries baps a few Mustang deliveries, inevitably falcons in falcon liveries is I think, how they wanna play it. Indeed. Yeah, there's big things plan, I think for for Baptist, but more than likely, they'll be quite a few on it exhibition at Santana's. Well. With the b. Obviously, Thailand being was the longest trek, the new guys, they know load grand prix is probably about the same length as in oval, trickling Zid be certainly had full wall. The falcons did a bit of winning. And of course it was when walking shown with Scott by getting his face when the growing private speaking of the grand prix, the Deitz have come out for this year of rather twenty nine eight and they've moved it. So it's a week earlier than this year says the fourteenth seventeenth March, and it's as slightly as a week or so closer to the Adelaide five hundred which is only last weekend in February, going into the early days of March. So. Compression compressing Matama bits the quays teams. Again, we'll have raisins complain as I'm sure others around the country will as well. I think it's gone from mar rough meth seventeen days. Eleven days or something is the expected change in the in the calendar. Formula one have moved their dight. If as long as they, I feel Cape it too. I think it was a bar Randall. There was only one game plight or something like that. Oh, go from wasting away by drove APR's t. t. r. s. Things going to push through some of those title I would take came in. What car west wants to know would you use to set the fastest lap on a quiet day at Laguna Seca even the four, four hundred a day. Not a race, not a race car a day when they have sound limits. So he's got the ninety six. So a fast, the fastest car, they will pass Laguna. Seca sound limits. Most of the new turbocharged nine elevens in quiet, exhaust mode will pass. So I would say I could be one would GT three probably GD three Walt, but a turbo will the nine eleven. I would take nine eleven turbo or turbo as with exhaust car. But yeah, it's can you think of something faster? That's quieter. That's an interesting question. Have you faster faster and also quieter than those. None of those crazy for ours like a no Ferrari Ferrari allow for. I won't pass. Not the production cars dotted shit, nothing naturally, aspirated and fast. We'll pass out now. Yeah, because the turbos really quiet. Those, I would say nine eleven turbo is is significantly quieter is quiet enough to do it so relevant today, but tesla roadster and a couple of years. And maybe didn't someone just, oh, I think was it Geno. Yeah, they he did, but I think Jaguar just went out with the I pace and ran a one forty, eight Laguna and beat that dude, though. "Does that create a unique circumstance for the series being the three of the four races in the month of August our road course races is that like, you know how the trucks have eldora perhaps maybe is the month of August carve out for the expanding cars? Yeah, you know, I think it actually now that I'm not running fulltime I don't really care how difficult it is, but you know, most teams don't have multiple road course cars, you know, you might build one in a backup car type thing. But when you have three racist. Findley, series in a row walk ins Glenn, right? Middle high awake off and wrote America that put some strain on the teams, and I love it. I think it's great unless the teams you gotta work your tails off to make the roadway season. And I think it's fun. I do like it that way. It is kind of, like you said, the Adora carve out type thing road racing season is August for the extremely series. I love chatting, Brendan gone. When did you run your first road? Course race not your offroad because I know you got a lot of you got a lot of time playing in the desert there, Walker Evans, and those boys. What about your first stock car road race? How'd that go Dakar or any car? I'll tell you what, let's start with any car. The first road race was nineteen Ninety-one at Firebird raceway down to Phoenix two thousand car so that that's where my road racing starts. First stock car road race would have been Laguna Seca Winston west, no, yeah. Laguna Seca. Winston west was my first one, and that was in two thousand nine and two thousand two thousand. When we ran the old Cup car when it was really a Cup car, when the west series was a Cup car. Nine and a half one Motors full full-sized Cup cars at Laguna Seca ton of fun. While the first question that begs to be asked the corkscrew at a full fenders stockcar had that traitor bad to the bone. We matter of fact, I got some great pictures. We had a problem and we were down a bunch of laps, but I got lucky and got towed to the garage, a wheel fell off. They didn't talk nuts. I was fastest on the track. Well, I got out and I was mad and in two thousand I'm twenty five years old and I was even more angry than I am at forty two and forty three now damn. Joe. So I so I, I was down a bunch of laughs house mad. I Pat unlike myself three times without a caution and I came up to the corkscrew mad. We'll hopped it and went backwards down this corkscrew and I have a sequence of pictures of my house of Migo and backwards on the corkscrew did a full three sixty and kept going and hit the leader in the next corner in the in the carousel, bumped him as I went in just a reminder that didn't reckon I'm still right here. While you're making a lot of friends that they weren't, you didn't just just like the other day when you asked about Twitter, asked me if I care. From that moment on forward, you obviously were new to stock car racing on a road course. It's amaz-. Young drivers are here for the very first time or will be at the racetrack for the very first time coming up. What do you tell those guys and how did you learn how to because you're, I mean when we talk real course racing and expanded series, your name always comes to the top of the list. You learned your craft, how will these drivers and how should they go about learning their craft? I liked it. NASCAR went outside, look, I love Watkins. Glen, a love the hell out of Watkins Glen, the boot would be making even more special for me the other track, but the road America, middle, how these are real traditional American road races, you have penalties for not being exact. You don't have all the room to make mistakes. So you have to be very good here. And that's the main thing I tell them is take your time pick and choose and learn the track as you're doing it, but I'm done trying to help kids..

"Man, it's going on drew. I got a bunch of talk to you about, so I did. You're gonna like this. So I did one of those personality tests. A lot of literature now supporting what it called the big five personality characteristic, which was like introversion versus extroversion conscientiousness versus not agreeable nece versus not. And I found it has about time. I did one of these tests and see where where I shows it administered, I think I did a psychology today test that just answering question much like that narcissism inventories to do. It's similar to that with a forced. You have questions where am alert, but they force you to make a determination, they'd give you a scale of agree, strongly agree to strongly disagree, and and I thought any took it and I was this all sounds like me sounds like me sounds like me and I was happy with it like conscientiousness and agreeable and things I kind of. I wish it weren't so agreeable, but it's all you know, you get stuff done and your country, you know things I knew and largely things that I've had to kind of choir too. By the way, it's not necessarily that way. Meaning like through training, professional training and years and years of paying attention. You. You can change your personality presentations characteristics. They called me, for instance, I was a quote, complete extrovert on the scale, which is categorically not me. I am quite introverted and quite sort of you probably would have a similar thing, right? I mean, you're able to get out and be extroverted. So on the scale you so to show up, I had to really work at that to be able to be present in the world. Actually pull back. I'm trying to think like. It's not on the test, but like when you're doorbell rings, do you think. Yeah, I gotta go, but it's like deal with somebody or something. I go to the people and I'm interested in what they're doing, and I'm interested in asking questions and I, you know, well, you know, things like that comfort with being out in the world and you're you're, if you answered honestly, you'd get up on that scale to even though I know you're like me, don't you feel. Right. Well, I have an pull it up. You pull it up. Everybody has things they wanna do and things they don't wanna do and and so on and so forth. So if you said to me, here's one of my most enjoyable endeavors. Yes, yeah. Every year we go up the Laguna Seca up north to do a race. I like driving with Matt Deandra and Chris max Pat, and whoever else wants to go because one of the more enjoyable parts of it is derived up the playing music talking drinking, a beer laughing, you know, just riding shotgun in a nice car and enjoying a laugh and other people's company. Now, on the other hand, when I'm going through airport security and air. Airport security bad is on the other hand, if there's some person, I don't know. I usually don't like them to have much. I don't really, you know, they start telling me about their theory. You wanna know where I got these cowboy boots and I'm thinking now now don't don't. You know what I mean? Yeah. So that's equally as miserable. But I, I guess the true introvert wants to drive up north alone. Is that true? Yeah. Or it's really extremely difficult for you to be social or to be attractive or couldn't get on stage? I, it's just you don't. You may be compensating for introversion to be able to get up and do comedy, but you couldn't be an introvert, right? You could feel like an introvert, but you actually are not introverted. When you get up on stage. On the other hand, if somebody said, would you like someone throw your surprise party? I would go absolutely. Place down. Don't ever do that right on the other hand. Let's you and me go out to dinner and enjoy our conversations. Right. I'm with you on that. Now they want to charge me for the fuck that. So anyway, chief, you're in. But but here's question, if you're still bitching about the two ninety nine this cost gun.

"Because the cars just amazing the first thing you bring up about it so maybe you did mind it is amazing to drive and i love retract as in its rock and look at it they're looking in the right it looks like a video game still from that's from cinema snow was very tough track that car that car did really good i did i get to drive it it was a press launch i get to drive it at laguna seca oh not to worry the but like i've gotten to drive some really good cars at at at laguna seca and getting to i'm sorry i was still muster raceway no now it's called now it's weathertech okay you're listening weathertech raceway now i mean how frigging lucky am i get to drive a frigging lotus vora at lagos been like one of the great through well you so you here's what's interesting is i did as well keep going down tim his picture from the corkscrew one more keep going keep going there it is that's a great picture gop shout to got blue milk the trackside photographer it's yeah it's really what they're called god blue milk but i mean that's a beautiful composition for trackside photographers yeah oh the deep in the paint their bro zanardi line curb there no tree is gone asset and so as you come over the hill so for those who've never driven laguna seca which i assume most people actually are vive if you driven in a video game as you come up the hill after turn six towards the corkscrew there's a big tree and you drive at you it's a blind crest looking like the tree trees gone so there's nothing there's nothing left the thing is like so you you you take professional instruction and you expect them to say something like you know okay you wanna go in here about three degrees at break and then turn into and they actually the actual instruction officers give you is is they say turn left drive towards the tree and when you can see pavement turn right yeah yeah that's exactly the instruction they give you and so anymore because there's no not anymore because there's no trade drive the top yeah and then you drove under a certain letter for when you came at.

"That cars go flat out like you know that car little boxer was going well over one hundred twenty miles an hour and so in a big car that worked right yeah you'd be going one hundred sixty miles an hour down that them straight straightaway what kind of latte times you run in the big car at laguna seca we talked about one fifty or so in this car on both tracks laguna seca and road atlanta what do you run in one of the two plus two cars my best is like a one thirty six and change one thirty seven when i'm not really aware of the car it's more like one forty one forty two like if i'm driving portion it wasn't really working like i wanted to work and also it's new for me and stuff like that but i would say the big cars at laguna seca are like the the one higher one thirties okay and so it would stand to reason that you would be in that some i you'd probably be in a little faster there's a math that would probably put you in the mid thirties or something like that yeah but it would be it would be a thrill it'd be dangerous probably to tell you the truth i would rather if i'm doing it in a high horsepower card rather doing a modern high horsepower car and just haul ass in a more modern environment you know yeah i gotcha so for me i would probably not wanna bring when the big horsepower cars there there's just speed and comfort level that's probably just not there yet.

"Well not nobody else but many didn't appreciate it the nissan's datsuns and now they seem they seem to the and the heritage motor sports heritage is starting to catch on more of that brand i felt like brian was a little slow to the table coming with it but it's catching on now in the event was fantastic i great well have some footage to show you the track is it's not technical but i would call it fast and so then fast translates into technical a little bit because it's like elevation changes a blind there's some blind stuff and there's also so you take a track like sonoma's anoma is kind of technical as i'm running through sonoma's i'm kinda running through road atlanta road alanna 's big and sprawling and and and pretty straightforward but straightforward in a fat and that just means you're going fast and so if you're going fast then it becomes a little more technical because you're going fast and you have to make decisions faster yeah we were we were comparing it to laguna seca and laguna seca is a little bit shorter track a little bit longer track but slower than now the what you're trying to articulate and i'll i'll i'll tell you put the words in your mouth that the car i drove that we drive at laguna seca yeah you get around the track and one forty nine one fifty maybe one forty eight if you're if you're doing well at laguna seca in this car the car i drove at road atlanta same thing get around if you're really doing it right one forty eight one forty nine and one fifty if you're going to little slower so about the same time same lamp times laguna seca as like two point two three or something somewhere in that era but it's about two point two miles around rhode atlanta's two point five four or something so it's it's three tenths of a mile bigger and you get the exact same lap times out of a track that's a fair bit bigger you know it's not a mile bigger but it's.

"Okay all right so it's a minivan it has a pod for lack of a better term your that's that's that's on top hardwired right into the van the van as far as being driven in a driverless car i can tell you it feels weird momentarily but you almost immediately get over it i drove around laguna seca in a bmw race car as a passenger with no driver and i was i was i was relaxed by turn three like you do you think it's going to be very i don't know pipe cleaner in the retha but bad name for a car wreath but you get over it almost immediately that's right yeah and we've seen that time and time again we've we've put literally thousands of people in our self driving cars and we have the same sense that it takes ten or fifteen seconds you get that sense almost immediately that the car is in command of the road and you can trust it and then you go off as a passenger and do the things you want to do in a car which is taxed sleep leap oh my god it'd be a beautiful thing no i drove to lax this morning at five thirty it was dark outside and went to bed at midnight like i would like to just sleep as a matter of fact i'd like to sleep and then not be awoken i'd like someone to carry me through security put me on the southwest flight tuck me in that donut pillow thing that donut pillow and feed me my honey roasted peanuts while i was asleep we don't have that part figured out yet well we're getting there.
