How to Build Killer Reporting to Uncover New Growth Ideas

"Welcome to another episode of marketing, school. I'm Eric Su. And I'm Neil Patel and today we're GONNA. Talk about how to build killer reporting to uncover new growth ideas so killer reporting. What does that mean exactly? What do we mean by killer reporting Neil? So killer reporting is anything that gives you actionable insights so that way you know what to focus on because you go into Google analytics or data studio, whatever one you're using, and you end up spending your time looking at a ton of reports and attended numbers, and then I bet you I literally had about one hundred bucks. I bet that you probably don't do anything with that data other than I add better odds worse will. Will Cool, but what are you GonNa? Do with it and if you don't do anything with it, you're just wasting time looking at reports. Yeah, so I like coaling. What used to do in the early days was I would look at all. These people really smart analytics People Auch Kasich right Super Smart. Guy and there's another girl. Her name is Liz, so names Anne. It's just any lyrics, and they always have really cool templates to. To share. I'm like Oh. These guys know what they're doing. So what I would do is I'll just swipe a lot of these templates out I think about what I need I do. I need a really good paid media template. Do I really need a good seo template and that I would look for the people that are often writing about analytics, and oftentimes they're sharing these templates on their websites. War I would use something like. Like super metrics, which has a ton of templates out there specifically for social media paid media Seo, and then I would find what works for me. Then what I would do is I would customize it based on my needs. Obviously, we're all in different businesses raw different stages, but you've got to think about what your needs are. I find a template an adjusted attempts your needs, and then it's GonNa make your life a lot easier. The other thing too is funny enough. I released whole Youtube. Course teaching people how to use Google analytics instead of reporting. But if you go to Neil Patel dot com slash spraining. Click on SEO unlocked I. Believe it's under week six I breakdown literally how to set up alerts in Google analytics as well as a setup reporting the correct ways you can actually get insights and focus on making changes was also a ton of other you videos by other people that breakdown how to do that as law, but that's the key is if you don't set up. Up Your Foundation right and it's not just gold. Tracking tracking is one thing, but you also don't want to be spending your time in analytics every single day. If you don't need to. Because you're busy of tons of things to do so I love setting up alerts, where notifies me when things are going really good or really bad, and what's causing it to go up or down so that way nowhere where to focus on what ted? Just when things go really good account for like for example someone writing about US and driving a lot of leads as We had them up and try to buy a AD campaign from them or try to partner with us, so that gives us ideas as well, but the key is to up your reporting correctly, and if you don't do that from day one, you're just going to waste hours in garage and I know we've all done it some. Have you guys avoid doing that? If you have a little money. I mean there's a lot of these great analytics consultants you can pick up from upward could be a great spot, but even marketer higher dot com, and this is a guy named G, a Ninja or analytics Ninja Jeff. Sawyers another guy. If you have some money to pay them for you, ultimately, it saves you a lot of time. That's great deals. Point I've had. The same alerts set over nine years ago from Google analytics. I still get those alerts I. Forgot to turn. Turn them off by these alerts will tell me what might traffic up ten percent down twenty percent. Right they on day. How am I doing week? On Week House conversion rate doing right? You want to have these things informing you, so you can make a swift decision. Otherwise what happens is you're so busy with their day to day that you forget about these things or whoever's running your? Whoever's running? A reporting should be tracking that that we can call it out. There was a big issue.

How Sasha Merci and Dee Nasty Found Their Comedic Calling

"So. Do you to know each other? Okay, so my family and her family were friends way before we were even born, so we were always see to their at family gatherings when we were younger, and then we started getting very close in our teenage years. And that's when we find that. We were identical. Identical yes Indian. D- what was Sasha like as a kid? Sasha was very artistic like I remember when I would see Sasha's especially, because when we were kids, we kind of hated hearing about each other, because our parents were kind of against each other like my mother would always be like Oh. You Know Sasha is doing a plane school in her middle school and high school. And I, and then her aunt, who was had would be like. Oh, well, you know D- Get straight as all the time so. Tired of hearing each other about each other all the time I don't even want to hear, but what we started becoming a little older, and we were forming our own opinions about one another I just remember her being so bad cystic always drawing, always thinking always creating. So loving energy always the first thing you would see when you see especially when she was younger well still. You know as a first impression is. She would always argue she has always like loving, so that was how I remember her as a kid. Sasha! What was do you like? D. was very smart like I. Just knew if you WanNa, know something is I d, Goretti, she. She knew facts all the time, so my aunt was telling me that she has straight as I was very impressed by how young she was, and how she was how she was able to articulate herself and I'm like man animal. He'd been an artsy fartsy and I can't even express myself like she. She can, but. One of the things that I do definitely remember as has a huge heart, and she's just willing to help anybody she she's. She's willing to save everybody and that's one thing I admire about her. She's amazing. Do when you were kids. Did you think that comedy was in the cards for you? I knew that it was going to be in the cards. In some shape or form at come from a very funny family, everyone's always roasting each other. And then my older brother also was very into comedy, and there was one TV how I would have to, but he was watching because there was another option, and he at a very early age I knew about Richard Pryor Eddie Murphy. So I knew that I wanted to do it because. It was something that will show my humor, and also my phone very strongly about something where I wanted to just talk about some recently learned the vile that can be a sluice fast, but if you make it into humor, if you make it funny that everybody wants to listen to it. And Sasha for you know. I didn't think comedy Liz. Ever going to be something that I was going to pursue because I wanted to be a singer. I wants to be the next Whitney. Houston and I didn't like her, but I wanted to make songs and. Just, people were always tell me like you're funny like you're you have a for a funny personality or you not to make jokes, and that also stems from my family, because we don't know how to be serious and if anything. That's. Dramatic happens in the family. We always tend to figure out what's funny, but they also put me onto Dave Chapelle Eddie Murphy and all these. Great giants that I look up to these these days you know.

Organization Expert Declutters 150+ Homes

"My name is Lisa Hobie I live in Seattle. Washington and I was featured on episode three hundred fifty. Three. Yoga teacher cleans up and I'm also in the one hundred side Hustles Book My side. Hustle is as a home organizer I like to say. My superpower is my ability to create beautiful functional, highly personalized spaces for my clients. I got the idea for my hustle kind of like a bolt from the blue during an interview with Chris. Gilo I was at a live taping for Gretchen. Rubin Liz Crafts podcast happier. And of course I was sitting right in the front row because I'm a superfan. And Gretchen interviewed Chris About his book born for this how to find the work you were meant to do. And I had this epiphany. I love decluttering organizing and making things beautiful. It's what I do to play. I lose track of time when I do it. Because I'm so focused, I'm like a dog with a bone plus I twenty five years teaching experience. So at that moment, it dawned on me. People actually pay me for. This skill was featured on the show in December two, thousand seventeen, and since that time. A side Hustle of home, organizing became my full time job. And my full time job of Yoga, teacher Yoga decreased down to a little side. Hustle so in that time I am I worked in a hundred and forty nine homes for a total of one, thousand, eight, hundred and seventy five billable hours. This is pretty much a three year span. and delivered three hundred and fifty two carloads of my clients donations to places like the refugee women's Alliance, where I volunteer, and to the local food banks to goodwill as well as delivering specialized recycling, so things were going great. I was working five days a week. In clients homes, I was booked out weeks in advance with a wait list. And I love my work and then the pandemic hits. And everything changed and I. AM recording this on Day. Ninety of Seattle stay at home order so I'm right in the middle of a lot of uncertainty and change. I would characterize these past three months at home as a time of service and experimentation right away when the pandemic head I knew I wanted to serve my clients because this. Is US super stressful time for everybody so right away. I started teaching Yoga every morning on zoom, and so I went from my group twice a month to teaching seven classes a week. I knew I wanted to serve my organizing clients. And I have been working with clients virtually op zoom throughout the stay at home time. I wrote an e book as a thank you for joining my mail list I rewrote my Introduction ladders. I added online scheduling option I gave a few talks on zoom for a couple of different companies. I wrote and sent out three newsletters to my mailing list as constant contact. So all of this. All of it felt like a pretty steep learning curve actually. Feis I get to someone who's thinking about becoming a home organizer. This is a really good time to do a lot of reading I would read books on organising home design housekeeping habit change. Time Management Paper Management, digital management I actually pretty frequently. Get requests for informational interviews so I have a pdf of my favorite resources. I'm happy to yet email it to anyone who's interested. You can just reach out. I guess the last thing I would say is in this time of. Such huge transition. Happen All I can do is keep offering excellent service to my clients between home, organizing and teaching Yoga and getting donations to people need them and keeping stuff out of the landfill. I feel like I'm living in integrity with my values, and that I'm being of service to people in ways that are easy and enjoyable for me and beneficial for them, so we'll just take breath time.

Trump denies knowing about allegations of Russian bounties

"Madeleine brand. It is the age old Washington question. What did the president know? And when did he know it? Theus Associated Press reports The White House knew more than a year ago that Russia offered bounties to Taliban link forces to kill coalition troops in Afghanistan. And The New York Times first reported yesterday that President Trump received a written briefing in late February on the matter, say Director Gina Hospital and director of National Intelligence. John Radcliffe criticized leaks to the media. But they didn't address the facts in the stories. President Trump says he never heard about it and claims it could be a hoax. Republican lawmakers went to the White House for a briefing yesterday. And today, Wyoming Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney did not mince words. I want to be absolutely clear that America's adversaries should know and they should have no doubt. That any targeting of U. S forces by Russians by anyone else will face a very swift and deadly response. Democrats received their own briefing today. Adam Schiff, Burbank congressmen and chair of the House Intelligence Committee says he doesn't know why the president hasn't said he will get to the bottom of this. I do not understand for a moment why the president isn't saying this to the American people right now and is relying on? I don't know. I haven't heard. I haven't been briefed. That's just

The Golden Globe for Best Picture and one of AF is ten best pictures of of the year for consideration in all categories from them on broadcast center. KPCC this is the frame. I'm John Horn born and thanks for joining us during our winner membership drive today my guest for the entire show is singer and songwriter. Liz Fair Hi John. How are you elgood Indie rocker? who was at a New York studio when we spoke burst on the scene in nineteen ninety-three with her debut record exile in Gainesville? She followed that with a number of albums and then sort of retreated for a while to raise her son now fifty two years old. Liz Fair has a memoir. It's it's called horror stories and in the prologue. She describes a phone call with their manager. Following the death of Prince in two thousand sixteen. It was a very funny phone in conversation. A unique conversation where he kind of challenge to me in a way. I wasn't expecting I didn't think of myself as old but he was like Liz. You know none of us know how long we've got you know you don't know. Are you GonNa be here tomorrow. You don't know is what you're making right now. What you'd WANNA leave behind if it was the last thing you ever did and it just shook me up because I suddenly thought like no I have more to say? I have more to say that I would like to say and sort of when I started writing and your book is out now. This may seem almost like an existential question but as the songwriter and Liz in the author the same person we are we are says the royal we we are are the same person I would say. Liz Fair is a narrower if you picture a pie chart right picture in eighteen percent wedge of that a pie chart and then extend that wedge outward is if it's a focused beam of energy that is so strong just like shoots out of the Pie chart that would be he lives fair and then the person who wrote the book is sort of all of me the whole pie chart everybody because very early in the book q wrote and I'm quoting yourself back to yourself. You say I'm trusting you with my deepest self and I'm wondering if you think you can be more honest s ask a writer than you are as a musician in a way. Obviously you have more room to explain a situation. Listen get more granular with it and really sort of muse about the unanswered questions. I think that was maybe the most fun thing about the pros. Writing is that I can russell with the problem that I can't find a solution to and I can wrestle with it page after page and it's interesting but but it doesn't resolve and I think with a song you kind of have to resolve it and kind of say like do. Here's here's what here's what I'm setting up. Here's what's happening and here's switch your takeaway as it's just it's almost symbolically stated in the song I'm GonNa give you the intense points and nothing thing else and in prose you can really slow time down. Bring you into the experience. As if you're looking at a my is feeling everything I'm feeling and and I can really take you on a journey. I'm going to play a bit of a song from your first record. Exiling Guy Hill. This song is called.

"A little special bonus you can give them sure i don't actually live on my own way website so i'm easiest to find on facebook where i run a page that i call archetype universe i'm thinking about it now that we're talking so much about branding in using your own strengths in your business in actually creating your business around your own strengths in who you are i think the best thing i could give away is a free branding archetype test were you will get all your archetypes listed in in the order with the most points at the top in less points at the bottom but were the two top archetypes will show you your strengths and when you have taken the test it will be taking to some links that will show you what's your strength as your archetype art and what your challenges are that you best overcome so using your strengths of course and then how can they find that what is the website so that's an http dot slash slash okay and then it's jamie c dot com slash branding and my name is spelled j a m i e s ib dot com branding jamie seib dot com branding and then branding and s will they'll find this freebie the they will find the the okay yes and they just registered there and do the test and they get results well it sounds like a lot of value in that jamie you bet great and then you're a facebook group is archetype universe well that's not actually the group that is the page.

"And why it does so well is because it is ever changing exactly jacking to the needs and the stimuli that it gets from its environment ohio sounds like that's what you are doing as well as you are getting a feeling for maybe your product or for what's going on at the time and then a da putting to it by putting expression into it with your branding yeah that's accurate that change is good because at the same time what you're doing is entertaining your audience but could document to they will they say that when you're creating text don't make all the text the same make some capital makes them different colors underline some attala cise some yeah right because you're keeping the mind stimulated you might say it's like if you walk into a living room and everything was brown yeah the pitchers all the pillows everything was brown i was thinking about to see other day you walk in and it's kind of boring it is or did he put her rain pillows on the brown couch and a pitcher that his colors in it and the walls are different color than the furniture then it creates an ambiance definitely and it's more stimulating which makes it more entertaining yeah yes do when when i think if you want to brand yourself as a business using different kinds of colors and ways to do things and maybe not always sit at the same place or it actually can wake up your audience and let's good good way to show your business office well it's but it's not just the color is though but a if since we're talking about colors would you can make everything stylish in sick if that is the type you are than there is nothing wrong with that so i would never teach my clients to do what i do i would rather teach my clients to do what is best for that at what is more according to their personality or in accordance with their personality i can hear what you're saying all the way and jamie who provided us with a wealth of information i am sure you or going to have the flynn our audience wanting to know where you are to get in contact with you do you have some information on how they can contact you in maybe.

"It's almost taking it away from what the brand new material is and the right colors and i know that's important but a brand that signifies one thing creating an image that is not true to the person that created it exactly so i have a funny example of that because i was gonna have my logo made not because i really felt that i needed a logo but because i thought it was really fun so i had a logo made it wasn't really good so a designer looked at it and she says i can do something with if you want me to go collect yeah but that's awesome and then we started talking about colors and i said to her you know i would like it to be like three colors that fade over into each other in that's going to look really great in those three colors will be my branding colors so it talked about colors i like and she says well i'm just gonna make some suggestions for you and she she came up with five different color schemes is i'm like i can't decide between these that's impossible so i thought about it for a little bit and i thought okay so it's really fun and cool and awesome for my brands to this not do what everybody else does sound just gonna use them all so now is like orange red purple or archetype coaching in us line blue purple for something else and sometimes if i'm tired of one color i use the other and nobody has even reacted to that because the logo is always the same it's just changing and colors which is also a way to brand yourself you know i want to things to be ever changing i love change i'm i'm one of these people in life that actually love change so why not just reflect that i completely agree with you there because i am an environmentalist i'm all about nature and that's what nature is about the reason nature's so's acccess ful.

"In and what are their challenges i believe that is a good thing oh i think what i'm talking about when it comes to systems is that you have to build your business assertain way you need to build a list and then you have to have a lot of people on your list and then you have to email them at least every week in have to have consistency and you have to have this to have to have that in i am sure that is working for a lot of people it just wasn't working for me in i think a lot of entrepreneurs are just like me they're sitting there in the can't make it worth it's not that they don't want to it's not that a they black imagination or gills or anything it's just not working for them so i started building my business of very different way i do grow my list in i am paying attention to everybody who signs up for my list but might way of connect eating with people is a little bit more personal little bit more intimate and talking to the masses was what wasn't working for me so i started inviting people into facebook group and i started working with people in my group where i could connect with them either personally one on one in the group or with a lot of people in the group and that started actually working for so my face the crip has my list a lot more than my actual lists so whenever i write an email to buy list by always have thompson going on in my grip that i invite them to participate in at the same time like integrating the two systems yes said information out to ballistic and then have them take action somehow in the facebook group exactly you providing a wealth of information that is going to help our audience tremendously have definite faith in that.

"Shout your brand from the rooftop i know there's a saying that if your brand your business clydes will come which is partly correct in you can do it that way or you can combine the two methods which is what i do so i have a really clear well defined archetype that i have actually written a lot of things about this client avatar what she reads where she goes a what she's interested in what your problems are what our challenges what are her strengths of what does she dream about and stuff like that where does she feel extreme pain that cetera et cetera but then i'm using my tipple language to address her challenges your particular archetypical language as opposed to her artistic language exactly i'm glad it didn't have to say that fast five times i'm glad that you did not do that i'm certainly not gonna try cheesy okay well i'm getting this on i mean i still i think this is brilliant because now you've taken to the next level by not only finding a way how to resonate with specific clients new then turned around and define that even further by using both who you are and your language in relation to your client avatar exactly i think you are extremely wise thank you you're saying is really really good i like what you're saying about instead of doing what everybody else is telling you to do with other systems yep thank online right now it has become flooded with so many experts that know what's good for them although at the same time the main strategies you're supposed to take on is who is your fly.

"Saying which i think is genius is that you went onto the online business and you're trusting other people to tell you what to do yes but when you found that that wasn't working for you you were able to adapt to this online system and find something that did work for you i did and we're using these words that fit of specific archetype tight when you do your business do you use those words or do you use the words that resonate towards the audience you're dealing with well actually use why branding it's my brand is an alchemist maverick in a use words that go together with those two archetypes when i market my business what i seem to attract as not so many mavericks i attract a lot of alchemists and a lot of nurturers and basically people who are fascinated by a different way of doing things like people who are attracted to doing things wrong way that's what i seem to attract no matter who they are which means i also attract a lot of the archetype artists i must say that a lot of times when you go into business they say you need to find your target market who who you're going to address and so we do that although kind of what you're telling me is that when you work from a archetype platform you putting the information out there in relation to your archetype and what you are tracting is other people that are within that same archetype yeah within that same archetype or archetypes that relate to your words even if they don't have exactly the same archetype i strongly believe the building a very good client avatar is extremely important because you need to know who you are talking to you can.

"Studied the archetypes and i went to a new business school right alert to use the archetypes for branding the archetypes are actually perfect from branding let's say the cure romantic archetype in i am maverick empowering words for romantic would be words like beauty and luxury and indulging in admire while the words for a maverick would be words like edge break rabble freedom breakthrough and words like that and when i was using my maverick words to work with romantics that wasn't working and when i was address saying the mavericks challenges to an audience of romantics they didn't recognize the challenges and i thought okay so this is what happens when you try to build a business system and you're trying to build a business system as if you were a romantic because your teacher is a romantic and you are a maverick yourself you're trying to build a business that isn't resonating with you those that make sense yes i can hear that when i finally discovered this i started putting together not a system fought a message and a message that let's my clients make their own systems based on their strengths and their insights in where they overcome their challenges and they choose which audiences they want to speak to and then they can word their marketing messages can point to to that specific audience it's a little bit like building a client of atari and actually goes a little bit together this is like the builders business from the inside out instead of building it from the outside in i can hear what you're saying and understand that completely would i am understanding from what you're.

"There might be some people that would just back away and says okay i can't handle this right and there's a quote that i really liked that says that you know when times get tough we don't rise to the level of our expectations we fall to the level of our training that release speaks so deeply to me because i think that we can get up in the morning i mean an expectations are so important but at the end of the day you know when you get pushed and prodded and you fall you know all these things happen it's like you're training is what keeps you on and i think that's what's important you my martial art that i practice is called aikido and i keep show is all based on spirals and what i love about an when my i got involved in an his nike oh you learn that strong sense of center and calm that for you know an i'll use the example of a hurricane or a tornado is the spiral and you have that really strong sense of an i as a matter of fact a hurricane tornadoes are both have more power the more clearly defined and the lower the pressure of the i and i think that's just like people so how do you stay in that center with all the turbulence that is a round you that's a skill that she developed and what i love about aikido is meditation and mindfulness and all those things are so very important i love about my art is you learn how to stay in that center when things come at you we do a thing called rondor where you have multiple people attacking you at one time and that is training and that is a skill and so it's the same thing if person walks into their work and there's you know the computer systems down there's there's fifteen phone calls there there's all those things going on and then all of a sudden your boss changes your priorities this like so do you have the training and the skill to be able to stay in the center with all of that that's what makes me excited about.

"Are in such exhilarated change and not everybody may change at the same pace they have their own experiences in their own up positions and right a place a balance or not like a balance that's kind of like we're going down a road and we have our behaviors that have always worked for us and then all of a sudden we have some construction in the road now we might find a way around that construction and then continue on down the road like we always have and that's i think what a lot of people do with their behaviors they figure out a way that they can keep moving down the road doing what they've always done whereas in times like now it's an avalanche that comes down in it totally blocks the road and now you don't have a choice but to change your behavior because there's no way around the construction and i think a lot of times we allow people to have bad behavior we might talk to them about it but really holding them accountable to it is really cutting off that road where the old behaviors it's continued to be accepted i love the word choice they have a choice to change their behavior they do what they can turn around and go back home that's right they can turn around and go back home it's it just gets all down to that so if they want to pursue and go along with the business relationship and help the organization thrive that the end of the day is having a culture that people like to show up in third excited about working together and they're doing something that they really believe in and mark at a job that makes them feel good when they wake up in the morning yes i love that help organization thrive absolutely i know i keep going back to this accelerated quote and what you were doing seems to be so very on target with addressing that because things are moving very very quickly and in very challenging times where.
