There's always that there was always that tint of nervousness. Oh now that we finally have a date i can distort the countdown. Yeah exactly in your. Is this kind of belittle overshadow. By the fact that we know that it's not going to be co op or forge out the gate and funny too. Because i we had spoken about this on the game cast. I thought people were going to be more upset about the co-op speaking with you last week. It seems like you know forage is also a big deal to people as well so too big features not coming out. The gate is a little disappointing. But you're right. We're this deep into a new generation of consoles. Xbox doesn't have any first party games out. they they had they had to. I i feel like they had to. They couldn't have gone this holiday season. Without this game releasing so i'm pump. This is also a game past day one game as well so you know i'm i'm be playing it and now i have a deadline for when i have to finish the other halos robbing into this campaign. Luckily i can still play multiplayer. It doesn't happen but yeah it's it's good to know that there's actually a date on the books canals kind of the same camp as you dude i was like. I don't know that it's necessarily gonna make it this year. you know. i think they're pushing real hard but for them to solidify and actually have a day. Makes me very confident. What are your thoughts on it. Travis how do you play halo at all. so i'm very Dwelled into the hill community. That's actually how i met right here. So here because he he me on one of the handle groups lan party thing one of the bigger hillary groups so anyway though i do applicable since i was like a little kid actually i used to think i was horrible halo but my cousin was like he was good and we did. What i didn't realize was playing against him losing a thousand times over actually. Nba live. yeah. I got my butt kicked up and down all the time until one day i finally beat the claimed and he couldn't beat me again and i was like ooh. I've gotten good. Never i never be. That never had boss. I never won a single match. But and that made me think i was horrible. So halo two slushy sixty on way back. In the day. I went online for the first time because i had that amazing horrible kentucky internet got in there and started winning. And i'm why up. That's my thought in thousand twenty two. That's eleven years away man. It's like five months from now. All right let me start with in november of twenty twenty. Lan said they'll be a button coming to your car within a month or two. I think it was then. They did a small beta to a small group of people who got the beta. I wanna say somewhere around bay ish. Maybe a little bit before that maybe actually. Maybe the beta group got it a little earlier. I don't remember we've been watching people this select group of people who've been putting youtube videos showing how it works. No one has it. No one outside of that small group of people have got have it in their cars and every time you keep hearing. It's it's coming it's coming i. I stopped watching the videos of it. I'm like when they release it comes. I really care less about it. Because here's the thing about hype. Hype works really. Well when you tell me about something and i get it above or two or even three later hype doesn't work when you're now flirting around ten months later and i'm not really interested because it's not there's no wheel defined date like you could be hyped up on something for twelve months but the only way to hide twelve months when they know it's coming and you deliver on time when the dates you have keeps slipping. I don't really care anymore. Like when when when they when they issued. It's great. i'll use that. I'll be excited. But i have not watched a single youtube video about their full. Self-driving stuff since probably the after the second update. Maybe i was like i. I could care less i. It's not in my car. And i don't really care what it does until i get it. Is it safe to say that. The iphone was probably the most hyped.

"I did. I did want to ask one more question myself I know originally when we spoke mike. it was just going to be on playstation. There was no talk of even though you guys had built on in xbox you didn't really plan on releasing guys just Regionally announced there will also be coming out on xbox so tell me what change what what made you want to expand the platforms and the ebony other plans to Put it onto any other platforms that it may not be right now Yeah the decision It basically came down to like we started with playstation. Because that's just what we were most comfortable with and we came to a point where it was like. You know what it'll just get out to more people and more people will have an opportunity to play it and we had a lot of people asking for for xbox and our last game we couldn't get it on xbox because it it was working on it but it wasn't working good enough and that's pride because of graphical differences between the two systems but this new generation xbox is just powerful. Ps five for the most part. So i don't think we'll have any issues so it was just like you know what the more people that can play the game the better and only made sense get on the next xbox to the thing with other consoles Actually i contemplated switch but then let's say i'm not so sure the game would look very good on switch. It would probably look like pasty garbage. Can you see on the switch. But every time. I'm thinking like how in the world is quantum era going around the switch. It's just like for the ps five and it will run amazing on the xbox. As well that the switch would would a switch peru have changed that thought lionel. Maybe i don't know maybe. Because if they announced another switch and that was when more powerful. I think it'd be more possibility. How close in power would would a theoretical switch peru have to be to appear five for that to be a reasonable thing for you guys to consider probably would need to be at least as powerful as four as at a minimum need to come close to a ps four basis for but hopefully maybe closer to a ps four pro. I think that that would allow us to easily quantum error on an x which you know..

I told him like look. His name is alex from lucia. Look addicts that. I need to try as well. I was like you twenty years ago. I wanted to try. And i cannot hold you back from trying and that was really were. We wanted to to go and we said well if it doesn't work we'll see soon enough but if it does then that's really what we want to do. And that's how we started with just four Four people the company nor spending in twenty thirteen. We focused on on various game. Saw firstly more always multiplayer against would we started more on mobile as it was easier for him to tackle in scope and then we slowly but shirty grew the company to now Twenty eight people Now in in two thousand twenty one so yeah. It's been an amazing journey It was always core to us that we would do. Multiplayer games and or a slogan or moto was always that we wanted to forge new experiences. New games new genres that bring people together. that's the core of what we do and we bring people together. We don't own the mean within the game but for us something that's extremely important and and I think it shows that we're involving our community also in designing face and for us within. That's one of the reason why why try given so much traction so early it's because we kind of shifted the model and our community resolve that yet. You know that's a wonderful model. And i love that model. You know to to put that into practice and an to to really form new genres to bring people together. What are you looking for in in concepts and ideas that will be able to to act on that model. It's it's very hard to answer in the sense that I think just starting points basically trying to see what we like as a team. It was definitely the case with tribes of mid guard. We were huge. Fans of don't starve and especially more don't starve together and with harvey superfund but it's still not very easy to get into. It's kind of rough on the edges not in terms of design but just in terms of target audience and. Yeah it's it's definitely like i i'm Play ten minutes because you're gonna be dead and so we thought hocken we kind of expand on that and make a game. That's a survival game. 'cause that's genre light but it's way more accessible way more accessible to a large audience so that there is that aren't as hardcore. That are more. I wouldn't say casual but that are not looking for that type of super hard challenge can also appreciate the beauty of design of a survival game. That was ready to starting point for tribes was to make sure we would create And we created a new genre was. It's it is..

Riot Games VALORANT / MSI Plans Show an Esports World Leaving LAN-Hibernation
"In Eastport during a pandemic is difficult thing to do Valor has done a pretty good job getting up and running without business as usual to rely on but today where I walk ins and outs of these Sports first land over a year since the game came out in beta in late May for VCT stage two masters. The top teams will be traveling directly vik Iceland to compete with that's still a long ways away, but it's really cool that we can actually have lands booked into the schedule again, even if fans still won't be able to attend this event the only major land to go down during the pandemic was Riot games pulling off League of Legends World in a bubble like environment at the height of the outbreak as cases shoot back down to earth and more people are vaccinated events are slowly going to pick back up cautiously optimistic is how I said, At this rate, it seems like fans will be in stands by early summer at least At A reduced capacity for I'd games they put all their chips in on Iceland this year. In addition to the stage two masters Iceland be the host of MSI running from early May up until a few days before VCT. I mean if you're going to hold multiple events in one country during a pandemic Iceland probably makes a pretty good choice. The back-to-back of MSI and then the stage two masters is kind of reminiscent of the old Festival like feeling of ESL and dreamhack events and honestly should be a ton of fun. It's a Fortune, of course, the fans won't be able to attend and receive that long but for the players will have a great time for people who aren't totally up-to-date on Valor and Esports. I'm getting a little ahead of myself here considering the first stage one Masters event still hasn't even happened that event is taking up in mid-march and it's also really noteworthy as it's going to show the first time since first strike that the overall appetite for top Valerie T sports events. I'm really curious what the viewership is going to be like on that one because it'll really highlight the fan favorite teams and how much will foothold Valerie has been able to take on and its first year certainly isn't make or break. It's the very first year of the Eastport but comparing that viewership to see us go off OverWatch and Call of Duty viewership benchmarks should make for an interesting thought experiment once it happens.

"I am loving most of what i'm seen now. Let me purposes and add one exclusion to that. Dave talked last week about the controls and said that it was a choice to make the controls. Not as precise as you've seen other games right ted. Add to the effect of you. Not being as powerful as you would be another games. Which does do that for the most part. But there are certain instances when you need that precision where you're like running and you don't really have that much time to sit there and try for five times depressed something and then i just died like there's a part of their game with my girlfriend was just laugh at me because i had to do it like fifteen times and i'm sitting there going. I'm doing it like what else. What what else am i supposed to do. I'm pressing the button. I think i'm where i'm supposed to be an one time. It just finally worked so be warned about that but overall a really good experience. So far and ryan. I know that you just bought the first game. Didn't you yet. And i announce thinking about it being a game that may we run as a family I think could be cool. 'cause they're really more into an and they enjoy puzzles. I think the artwork. I think my daughter would love artwork. I absolutely loved the artwork in this guy. Status story is legit and whatnot. So and and the other thing too. I think that's like really appealing to me is the fact that it is a shorter game. I know that you know i can. I can focus on a crank through it and we can knock it out like a weekend or something. So i'm excited to play it and then jump into the second one again. It looks gorgeous. I'm i'm excited to see. you know. also to where they go with the stories or or what. "So emily why did you want to focus this story on. Columbia am the philippines. So remember that report i mentioned earlier. Yeah the one from global witness yes. So they're an ngo tracking threats against grassroots environmental actus subsistence farmers opposing mining tribal leaders condemning logging. Journalists lawyers organizers the un calls these folks environmental defenders and most of the murders that global witness documented took place in just two countries columbia and the philippines and in columbia indigenous communities are especially targeted. including the. Why you me known. His and nicole's piece this is on halacha or ortiz. A member of the y. You in northern colombia. In luck waheeda heater. We spoke over a secure video chat. So she is the secretary general of where side they mujeres y you mounting protests against mega mining projects in la guajira particularly. This project called l. said horn and what else to hone. That is the largest coal mine in latin america and it's right in her backyard. This is illegal operation owned by multinationals digging up coal that's exported to other countries but the practice of open pit mining. Mattie has proven really disruptive to the people who live there and harmful for the environment right. I know open pit. Mining can mess up local water resources absolutely and can create pollution that is physically harmful to communities that live nearby el cerro hone overall is really polarizing. Its construction has provided jobs and wealth to some in colombia for decades but it's also displaced indigenous and afro colombian communities forcing them from their lands without real resettlement consequently they are exposed to violence largely at the hands of paramilitary groups and criminal organizations groups that harass and target defenders like on helicopter who out against human rights abuses and environmental issues like those caused by the mine and this is on top of the violence. Colombians have already faced right. I mean. I know that colombia's kind of coming out of decades of conflict a conflict. Some say is an over because of armed groups still active in the region. GameStop Stock Soars as Reddit Investors Take On Wall Street Bets
"Stop the video game retailer. Stock has rallied over six hundred eighty percent this month and in the last couple of days the stocks volatility has pretty much everyone talking. So what's going on. First of all game stop is for the average mall going consumer dying brand a relic of simpler times when we used to have to physically go to the store and wait in line for the newest call of duty or for the latest harry potter book. So it's no surprise. That game stop has been a target for wall street shortsellers its demise has been foregone conclusion. So short and game stop. That is betting that game stop would continue to. Depreciate could have been a good bet except short-selling is risky and your losses if you lose that bad or basically limitless since there's no cap on how valuable the company has bet against could become so even riskier if stock you've shorted starts going up. You can essentially cut your losses without getting too in the weeds market mechanics here. When a lot of short seller's designed to cut their losses on a shorted stock. That's now suddenly going up it triggers. What's called a short squeeze. Demand goes up. Supply goes down. Price goes up more shortsellers. Try to cut their losses. It's a vicious cycle and one that can result in massive losses for their shortsellers and giant prophets for those who've invested in the stock on the way up which is when a popular reddit. Forum called wall street bets figured out that game stop was the most shorted stock in the us markets. It wasn't hard to convince reddit users in the forum to buy up enough stock in game. Stop to trigger that short squeeze making retail investors of bundle and sticking it to the wall street big guys in the process. This was all encouraged in many ways by high profile investors with a hefty social media presence. Jamaa only petia tweeted that he'd bet on the stock increasing himself cameron winkle voss of the winkle vi- suggested he might go along on the stock and must only tweeted that he was aware of the situation just aware of the situation in game. Stop took off again. In after hours. Trading and to wall street bets credit. The plan worked amid game. Stops rally shortsellers on wall. Street have accumulated over five billion dollars in losses year to date and that includes nine hundred million loss on monday and one point six billion lost on friday. As you're about to hear hedge fund. Melvin capital took an enormous loss on the bet so much so that rumors of bankruptcy were swirling on that wall street. Bet sub reddit. But the founder of melvin told our own andrew ross sorkin. The rumors aren't true. Here's andrew now some breaking news this morning on this game stop story. We've been reporting all morning. Having talked to gay. Plock into runs. Melvin capital gay. Plotkin saying that. Melvin capital has been out closed out its position in the stock force. That company was Firm i should say with short looks like lost a ton of money but short that company up through Before the end of the close yesterday but Gabe saying that They got out yesterday afternoon. Of course the question is what happens now. Game stop a game. Stop shares Melvin capital had to take in an additional close to three billion dollars in new capital citadel. Coming to the rescue along with point seventy two. This is a remarkable saga With game stop so many of these investors no really no longer really investing on the fundamentals of what's happening against up but more just continue to push up the stock and we've seen so many folks like you on musk. Go take to twitter about it. Chihua- polly fanning the flames. So there's a lot of fan fan. Flame fanning taking place right now big questions about regulators where they are what they should be doing a lot of criticism and critique online as saying that if you think manipulation what do you think wall street is doing everyday to us the retail investors so. There's a sort of a pop psychology dynamic at play. And i think we're all we're all learning and try and understand what it means but also what it means in the future for the ability of retail investors to get together on places like read it and other places Form an army of sorts and try to push up The stocks in in certain cases like this. So i'm at a loss for words. Joe i really am where are the regulators and is this just the beginning situation. We all do have a lot to say on this but you you obviously have a lot to san. That's interesting but obviously the plane with the calls. And you're you're seeing calls that are one hundred dollars out of the money going for nineteen dollars and things that you've got markups going from two billion to twenty five billion. Obviously everything you're saying we understand. This is this is a game obviously and these guys. When i put five dollars on a ncaa game that. I don't care that much about that's the same as jemaah putting a couple of hundred grand on some calls or lan or any of the guys were talking about this. I think it's kind of responsible. The kind of laughing about it laughing all the way to the bank. But you know there are market makers that have to take. How'd you like to be short some of these calls. Can you imagine being short some of these calls. Especially if you're not covering i mean you can lose. You can lose ten times your money. Unlike a regular investment where only lose one hundred percent. I mean this this this makes this makes bitcoin look like t-bills if you think there's speculation and crypto when you when you look at something like and now they're looking for the next mark right they'll find another game stop once they're done with game stop but in the meantime there's gonna be blood all over understand why i understand why elon musk is doing it. He hates the shorts. They've you know he's right. Thinks it's a game where he's playing a game to understand he's playing the game too. I don't understand why tomatoes doing this. I don't understand why the winkle loss guys doing this. I mean this is i. It's nothing about me. Said too much money it and if you if you think people look unkindly at the wealthy at this point like wait till you see what happens with with the retail investor who gets sucked into thing and gets caught in the trap with who can't afford to lose the money like these guys are doing. I'll tell you the thing there. There really is a merry band of retail investors. Out there both already but increasingly and this is what i think even more concerning i spent a lotta time night reporting this out but also spending time on the in some of these rooms there are places people are going out into encrypted rooms onto telegram onto signal where they where they effectively are planning their next raid. Where they're trying to look to say. Okay where can we do. You know who can we take down next. In this case it was capital that they were seeking to take down. That's why i think the news today that they're out maybe potentially a turning point. I don't know. I don't. I don't know what turns this stock back into some kind of a normal

"There was something ryan. That gamers definitely did not enjoy last week win. Xbox announced very briefly that the price of xbox live gold membership was doubling essentially from sixty. Two hundred twenty dollars for a year end then. The reaction was so strong that they went back on that and ryan. That was a pretty crazy story. Like i don't know why or how they thought that was going to go over well and i was also then a little bit surprised that they caved right away. What is you doing baby. Come on microsoft. I don't know who made this decision this this to me. This is like one of the most are moves that they can do. My understanding xbox live gold gives people the ability to basically play online through the microsoft service. Here's the deal. If you know about game pass you have game pass. Ultimate xbox live gold is included in it. What what what has been need for gold. I don't understand why they don't take gold roll gold into game pass rate charged an extra five bucks. Those that are just paying for the nine. The nine dollar <hes> <hes>. Xbox live gold and by the bank bought a boom. You eliminate gold. This seems like they were sitting there trying to get rid of fans and make people angry. It makes absolutely no sense to me. They double the price you get no free games with it. What are you doing and not only that but you made that decision. And then the next day you have to go around and and o. r. bad we didn't realize it's going to make you guys upset site back to original prices. It will just foolish. Whoever and here's the other thing too is not one person just makes this decision right. The thing goes through a numerous people checks and balances things like that. Hey there's a good idea. let's go ahead and move forward with this. So this went through. I you know i. I just can't fathom what's the thought process behind making. This decision was made at. It made no sense. Zero centered so ever that i. I don't know whether i i it's it's weird. It's weird it may be think back to the xbox one days in microsoft was seemingly getting gamers mad at them for every decision. They're making a half expected. Sony to save we're dropping the price of ps plus just to kinda stick their thumbs out them in that moment but yeah. I don't know it super weird decision. Don't know it was hilarious in kind of sad to see them the next day as you said we invest never mind. I mean my thing too. Is i mean i feel like microsoft and xbox have been making some really really great moves here over the last year so to see a major not major because they went and turned it around but just to do that. Make that decision and have that kind of misstep. It still really goes to show you that. At times i feel like microsoft has very disconnected from their community. And and how they're going to respond to me. You know what i mean. That seems like a no brainer. I'm going to double this thing has less valued in this other thing that we offer like i. It just doesn't make sense to me. It's like they were trying to lose fans or make fads mad like oh are you guys. We apologize about that you know and that may be an indicator. Can i feel like since the new consoles have launched. You really haven't i. I personally haven't really heard a lot about the next gen. Xbox and what people's experiences are something like that. I guess i'm not really looking forward either but i mean maybe it was a way to try to get back into the news a bit i. I don't know it's weird man

"It's going to have the elements to at but it's not going to be a one hundred percent strict adapt adaptation of it and. I think that that's where you're going to be like okay. So there's the model for what it can look like and with any luck the halo. Tv show that's coming will have some similar success. I'm a less hyped on that A little worried about that one. Because it's showtime and they don't have the same quite the same track record. We don't know yet. But i think that if these continue to hit we get the halo show. The last bus in the witcher which has a second season coming. If those are still critically received we should be able to translate that type of storytelling that mature storytelling that diverse storytelling. You're talking about ryan into film. They're gonna see that that's what people want and maybe just maybe we can finally start to swing this pendulum over a little bit. Yes definitely you know. My final question aired. What is your favorite video game movie. And why oh boy. Gosh i who voted. It's like the thing is there's no great one. There's no there's no masterpiece that makes hard for me because there is a level of video game movie enjoyment. I get from quite a few. But they're all a notch below perfect and so it makes it tough. I think that the the newest tomb raider review is up there for me simply because again. I love treasure hunting. And i'm a big fan as well and so that when plays in there. I think maybe my greatest. I don't like the word guilty pleasure too much. Because i think if you like a movie that that means it has quality with its issues the only real issues i have with this movie are related to the casting even though i somewhat enjoy the casting In racially speaking. It just doesn't hold up these days to be honest but prince of persia underrated fun movie. And then i just went through the resident evil series and so i've got to put that up at the top..

"Let's talk about time then. In the next thing i was thinking about what are some effective time hygiene or time habits that we can about to institute in the new year. And you know there's just so much of this thinking in the entrepreneurial world that the idea is to just go out there and to work all the time to sort of sacrifice other areas of your life. I caught myself seaney. Lan must describe how he puts ninety hours a week into his business. And i have a hard time relating to how that's possible and the reality is it's i almost feel like a little bit ashamed to it in the light of how this kind of hustle culture is so glorified but i spent more time. You know working on businesses. When i had a job and i sat in a desk from eight. Am in the morning until seven pm at night. Then i do for the businesses that we've run together and part of that is having good time hygiene and focusing on the things that count tell you what my trick is. Dan and it has been the last three. Years is just have a kid because that will clean up your act immediately. It's kind of a joke but it's kind of serious which is like there's a limit now on my time. That was never there before so when people had said to me in the past like oh man. I got so much more disciplined with my time. When i had a kid. I can totally relate to that so i guess what i would try and tell myself before is like how could i engineer that into my day like pre kid because actually used to pull it on must end like you used to make fun of me for it. You'll be like oh. This diesel just like sits down for like twelve hours and the reason i did that is because i kind of enjoyed it and one hand but on the other because i was like super inefficient and the way that was approaching some of these problems so it worked out because they didn't have anything better to do and certainly that's a okay position to be in. If you want to sit there for twelve hours you can do it. If you don't have much else going on which i didn't but now i can't afford to do that so i just have to be a little bit more deliberate about the way that i spend my time. It's weird because like besides being braggadocious on youtube about it. No one's keeping track of this stuff anymore and no one cares right and so it doesn't matter whether it takes fourteen hours a day or four. It's really a matter of practicing the fundamentals simply asking yourself. Are you being efficient with your time if your being efficient with twelve hours a day and what you want to do is grow the biggest company in the world and become the richest person in the world. Then more power to you. Know that's really cool a couple of things. I mean for me. My time hygiene habit in two thousand and twenty one is calendar in a lot more and the strategy essentially is time boxing and time. Boxing is an approach. That leverages parkinson's law which suggests that task expands to the amount of time that you a lot to it and this is particularly true in knowledge. Work and men. You've been through this a million times. Essentially you finished the task by the deadline. Yeah and especially in knowledge based businesses where there are these moving grey lines as to what constitutes being finished. I think time. Boxing is a really excellent approach. The so typically in my calendar has been only for meetings meetings blank space and in two thousand and twenty one. I'm going to get more serious about time. Boxing and putting in projects deliverables deadlines and areas of focus in the calendar. You know one of the small examples started happening in our businesses one of our team members. Alison i would set aside an hour to work together on our sales literature every week and it was simply a matter of like. That's a time hygiene thing. This is a very important thing it tends to get put off and we think it's important so how about we just work on an hour week together and keep each other motivated. This is something. I really wanna explore in two thousand and twenty one interesting. I mean that is a real example. And that's something that we've talked about behind. The curtain with our businesses like ourselves pages needed to be updated. And i like the conversation that we had is like. This is an ongoing project. And so you know with these habits. Die ideas like identifying what's valuable and then making it a habit one of the thing. I'll add to hygiene dan and this is something that i implemented in twenty twenty as it relates. A time is a bedtime. I to stay up really late and i know. Sometimes you're up late to text. You still be up but it is rare. These days dan that i stay up twelve thirty. The reason for that is because i get up later and then i can't be productive during the day as much as i'd like to be. I don't know. I guess this is being part of an adult or something. I don't know. I've always kind of you know moon lighter on the night owl. The best stuff happens at night really. It doesn't for me the best things that happened at night or like more interesting so i cut myself off. And this is one of the habits that i implemented for twenty twenty. I'm looking forward to in twenty twenty one as
