"Kingsman. For some reason I read that every time instead of having read at once, ingest running that tape over and over and over again anyway. The long wait is over you guys. We now know that the kings will pick second in two thousand and twenty NHL draft. We just have the long wait until it actually happens now so here to tell you what we're gonNA. Do with all that free time as Jackson Lonski as we sort of give you a some reset where the franchise is, and where it might go from here, hope you enjoy it. Joining me now Jack Lonski. How're you doing today? Jack? Doing well, it's been awhile. Back it has now Friday night. There was a zoom call. For La Kings, employees and I was on the call, but I have to confess I have no idea how many other people were actually on the call. It was a lot. Were you on that call Friday night? Unfortunately, I was not I was in the midst of some physical therapy, so I was watching. Watching the? Draft on TV, but wasn't able to to join, so the instructions were for all of us to turn on our cameras. Once the selection process began, and the idea was that we would all in a probably probably revealing stuff. I shouldn't, but the plan was that we should record ourselves on. In case, the Kings wound up getting the number one overall pick, and now way we would have this collection of recordings to you know. Put together into a you know a reaction video of all of us. Reacting to the potential good news now I did not turn my camera on, and I did not on mute myself because I knew. That! If we didn't get the first overall pick I wasn't interested in anybody seeing my reaction and I wasn't particularly interested in anybody seeing my reaction, even if we had the first overall pick. And as soon as the number seven pick revealed. To be not the Kings I started clapping and screaming and every Reno every card that kept turning down. Every time it was not the Kings I would. Shout out some obscenities and do a little fist pumping clap really loudly and. So so there's no record of that and I'm perfectly happy with their There being no to that, but the kings will wind up taking the second overall pick in the two thousand and twenty NHL. Yeah, said two thousand twenty NHL hundred. Initial reaction. Well I mean. I think we knew going in that? It was unlikely we were going to move up. Obviously looking at percentage, wise so having the bitter taste of what happened last year from moving from second to fifth I think we were all hopeful that it wasn't going to happen again, but you know the numbers weren't necessarily in our favor, so being able to move up and get the number. Two pick is extremely Great for the Kings Organization in terms of the luck, but at the same time It's going to be good. You know excited..

"And. No hope everything works out as well as it can treadmill. As. AG. CEO Dan Beckerman. said the. We were one of the first industries to stop. And will be one of the first one of the last industries to resume in any sort of normalcy. And it'll be a long time before. Get back to that. The great thing about sports is that it does bring people together, but the brilliant thing about the way that we consume sports in our modern life. Is that you don't have to be there and for the moment. While we were not going to be there. And that's going to impact the economics of where we are, and will and the entire industry you know we were looking at. Articles the other day of how television production is going to change. You'd think about how radio production is going to change. You think about all the employees in Beyond AG. You know all the employees who work at Staples Center on a regular basis who work in our productions on a regular basis on television who assist with parking assist with concessions, and how life has completely been up ended for everyone. And, we cannot wait to get back to some sort of normalcy, and it won't be normal until we can get a full house to watch a game or to attend a concert or a music festival. But I will leave you with this. That day will come. We have come so much farther in three months than I think a lot of people would have imagined. And we'll continue to make progress. It's going to be halting. It's not going to be easy and the sense of normalcy. We'll have to adjust based on how we conduct our daily lives, but we'll get there. I have no doubt. And with that. Want to say goodbye for. The season a big, thank you to our producer, Jesse, Cohen who was done phenomenal work with all the king's men with this podcast with all the content and see it La Kings Dot Com and All the work that he's put in behind the scenes and editing down these podcasts and consumable fashion but also all the work he does. would with Fox sports, west and coming onto our telecasts in. And, giving us a little bit of levity during the year as well so a big. Thank you to Jesse Cohen to everybody with the LA. Kings for allowing us to put this on and Jen. Thank you as well as was new for both of us. At the beginning of the year. I think it turned out, okay. Thanks Alex a very well. Again, you know the ability to. To break something down a little bit deeper. I really enjoy that. And A. Many Times. It's about hockey many times. It's not but. Just something A. Debate is something that I I like we will probably develop that more we. Learn how to do this. And but always always always. Enjoyable, thank you. Yeah, it's been a lot of fun and we will talk to all of you at some point down the line, but until then we say goodbye for now, thanks..

"Make the playoffs. You know I think you'd feel a little uncomfortable if any team that was going to be at like Montreal or something that was clearly going to be on the outside. And maybe Arizona have made it. Who knows but I. Just that as I wanNA root for them. They're great people down there. They've they deserve the winner for how long they've waited to get back into the playoffs, but man you know. I I want us to to get their first before they do. One one thing before kind of going to listener questions. We're going to have a bit of a longer summer. Now. We might both be working. Either TV or radio in the playoffs, but it is summer. any any summer. Reading recommendations here before I kind of transitioned into listener questions. What are we doing here summer reading? Wow. What's your homework for the summer, so you can come back? Started already. It's just Mostly historical. Non Fiction. On the. Wine Industry specifically in California. I studied it before have gone over before done a lot of reading. Of course had a chance now to become part of the industry, but still have to brush up on. The, no, the the people that came before me A. I'm such a small, small, small, small small part of it, but. Just really getting up to date on. On the people that opened the doors in the people that both technically also marketing wise and brand wrecking all those areas in California within the wine industry, just trying to. So I've started a few bucks already in. Just. Usually those types of books to where you can, you can go look at at the chapter and say okay. Want you don't have to go chapter? Not Chronologically, you can just take okay. Let's take a look at this area. Let's take a look at this region or this gentleman did this. This lady did that? You know. Take it apart that way. I. I like that I'm a big I can't do fiction as much I like nonfiction books so I've got a book called. by Andre Agassi Autobiography just fascinating character in the sport of tennis, and then a hockey book called bear town fiction from Frederick Backman That? I want to dive into so one of each and. That'll be my summer reading and we'll see where we go from there. Who knows we may be busier than we we think. Over the summer, if if we work the play offs for radio or television all right, let's dive in some listener questions here Let's start with the king story in this is a broad question. What are you looking forward to by the way if you're not following the king story and I don't know who this person is there. It's an incredible follow. They have birthdays and this day in Kings, history, and some really really deep stuff. And they do a phenomenal job. What are you looking forward to most next season? We're a long way off from that. But we can start dreaming I guess. I, I think. It's really GONNA be how the king sort out. How many of those highly skilled younger players are going to be in the lineup at the same time..

"Where you know you don't go framing quick You sacrificing your sweat it out, and then it comes sooner or later. Probably, not there yet. Some real fun players to walk right real fun to watch after shut. And of course Hugh's back on the Blue Line. A besser who can snipe. Up. More. More I think of Kelly for the kings now just righty lefty, but just a guy who can snipe shoot. Hopefully. Arthur. Happen that way for the Kings. But the just team I. long term rivalry with king's but I kind kinda like I'd like to see them do well. Yeah. I can't argue with that. You know. What under the radar Alex. Was One of the best goalies in the NHL, the second half of the season I I was doing the NHL video game challenge in talking with the the Minnesota guys and they were like. Yeah, he's just. He found something and basically stole the number one job in Minnesota and that changed the paradigm. They're. And now they get a second chance to the tournament, so I'm fascinated to see how. How he carries them into this play in tournament, if you will qualification round, guess, the official term and then the final series. I think this is the one series that it's a shame that the fans you know forever series aren't involved, but especially here the Sea of red and Calgary and the Winnipeg white out. There are going to be silenced, but you have Calgary and Winnipeg in a series where the flames were kind of finding their way most of the season and the jets a team that. Again, I put Paul so my on my top. For the for the coach of the Year award, the Jack Adams Award, but you know. This is going to be a fascinating series because I. I think this is a total tossup. I yeah, I mean. What a matinee were, they were built to win then. Within the space of three months. Your defense is devastated. Yeah! The power! There's power on those teams upfront. There's some there's some scale. That'll make it very interesting. I think it's more of a skating type of series. But. That'll that'll be something to keep an eye on if. In if you way that factor of goaltending into it. I guess. The edge goes to Winnipeg there. Fella but can. Continue to put up the numbers. He still has that. Next Hill to climb as far as Is he the guy you can hang your hat on? His numbers are slapped me in the face, saying yes, he's proven. He can, but. I still think people waiting to. To see the final pay off their. Team that you would wouldn't mind rooting for in the West. Yeah get while. It's hard in our conference. You know it's it's it's it's began their their long shot. Yeah, Longshot just. Their makeup through the guys at the topper pretty good so. That's GONNA. Be Tough once really gets through that first little round. I think for me. It's Arizona and you know it's one of those things where as a you know I want the I want the Kings to succeed within our division, and I would feel really weird, if in a in this strange time and is different tournament that you know if the coyotes went on a run, I'd be thrilled for them, but at the same time it'd be like man in a year, in which they were clearly not gonNA..

"And it's make sure you let everyone know when the Games are on and where they can find those games on. Well, that's where brackets help because of building availability. It's easier to plan. You know where people are going to stay within a certain area because it's bracketed, you're not receding. and. Let's face it. and. We're fortunate because we happen to be. Part of our industry but TV because of the dollar generated is a huge priority for the leap and it should be. But yeah, maybe you know by receding. It's just a different. We just talked about. It's different right, so let's let's experience something a little bit different here. Because the way everyone is going into this playoff situation. Maybe they should shake things up a little bit, and maybe it should be different than normal and. It's. Man It's it's interesting. It's really interesting for me of. Something, I mean I. Think we're all looking for something to look forward to. And this has caught my attention of what's going to happen when we get back on more than anything else during the pandemic I think we've all missed something to root for. We've really struggled in in that part of something to root for something tangible to root for before I get into the the individual playoff series. It does close the book on the La Kings Season Seventy Games. Very different teams start to finish. As we're as we take this season for the kings and perspective What is your takeaway? We've talked Tom. McLaughlin a couple of times, and we've heard from him on these zoom calls that that have gone out with the season ticket members but I. he had a very very positive outlook at the end of it for her how his team came together. What was your take on the season? Where I'm sitting right now. I look at it this way. I am glad. And happy. that the kings and Todd McClellan did not go for wins early, and they probably could have won more games early. I'm not saying they were a playoff team. I really don't believe they were a playoff team regardless of how their approach was going to happen. But I think they built or started to build that foundation, and sometimes you can take shortcuts sometimes you can. You've gotTa keep going how many times they don't. He didn't change that first power play unit for the longest time. He wanted to give them the opportunity..

"If you're listening to this on June, eleventh twenty twenty, it's been three months. It has been a long three months, and a lot has happened in those months, but I'm almost at a loss of belief that we've made it this far because it seemed like it was going to take a lot to just to get to this point how you doing. Doing fine a I know when. The. lockdowns started with the corona virus issues. We were uncertain was going on. I think they're certainly. How I say that there is certainly still uncertainty. About. How quickly things will get back to the new normal is everyone's talking about. All we talked about I, did talked about anxiety issues and things of that sort again. I think since the first. Ten days to two weeks or so when? We know the information is changing. We know that the research that's being done. It's it's a novel corona virus getting a new. We have new ground here. A plan in place for the NHL. No certain steps have to be met, but there is a plan in place so. Pretty optimistic about what's going on in our industry. As far as getting back to play, and that's something that we can look forward to. A lot to look forward to over the summer the book is closed. If you will and we'll talk about that. The book is closed on the regular season and the season for the La Kings. We have a playoff format. It's expanded. There are twenty four teams. They will be playing in hub cities. All the speculation is finally reality. There's still no certainty that it'll happen, but we will talk about that will assess the kings season. We will handicap the first round playoff series maybe. "Podcast duty. Oh I'm at home joining me from her home Robin Dutton. How're you doing today? Robin doing okay. Considering all things that it's nice to be here talking with you today we are going to recap the last week's events Bring you some updated information about where the League's answering teams dance. Then we're GONNA get into player. Polls eventually we will hopefully steer the show back onto conversation strictly about La Kings hockey but for now Robin What was Wednesday like for you watching at home? Wednesday night was crazy We took the option. Our digital team worked from home. We figured better safe than sorry We had a feeling it could be our last game with fans and maybe our last game for awhile but there's so much uncertainty around it And then while the night just escalated so fast I saw. I think it said what a year these last two hours. So yeah I mean I was just kind of sitting at home watching the tweets refreshing twitter every five minutes Saw the NBA was suspended. Tom Hanks in his wife tested positive. And I think things really escalated from there. You were at the game right. Yeah I didn't have the option of staying home I had to do the pre-game show on Iheart. And you know there are moments where you start a sentence and at the start of your sentence. The world is in in one state of flux. And by the time you finish the sentence is completely changed and I was. I don't remember what I was saying. But Jackson Blonde ski was in the booth with me and Jake our producer was. They're both of them. Had their phones out and both of them were scrolling through twitter and both of their jaws hit the floor at about the same time while I was talking then I grant you I tend to ramble on so they had plenty of time but they were both trying to get attention in point out that the NBA had cancelled the season. Or at least I. I may have that time line slightly wrong but the NBA had shut down games. Basically and you know we were in the middle of doing alive show and and I assumed at that moment that the NHL would follow suit The players had not yet taken. The ICE for warmup. So I wasn't sure that the game would wind up being played but it seemed like a fifty fifty bet at best and I certainly assumed that the Games will be canceled the following day when we did the post game show after the win seventh in a row You know we talked about will. What is what happens. I mean we tried to focus on the wind and celebrate the team but it was also Dave Joseph Of saying well this could be. It could be the last one we do for a while. the weird feeling very weird. I mean it's nothing like I've ever seen in my life I think even our parents generation haven't seen it and They feel I wasn't around working in the league from the lockout happened but I think it feels a little similar for a lot of people working organization. Obviously Everyone Mrs Hockey and and we want to be back playing soon as possible but the health of the greater community is more important than so. Obviously we really respect the League's decision and we're following suit end just trying to take day by day. This is one of those Moments where I like being old because I know a lot of younger fans or newer fans don't remember the two thousand four two thousand five lockout but we recorded an episode Fox Faust earlier today in you know they were. Alex was asking Jim about that year. And I remember distinctly in February of two thousand and five one of my dearest. Closest friends got married. I was the best man at his wedding. And we were in the lobby of the hotel that we were all staying at The night before the Before the wedding and we were walking from I don't remember the rehearsal dinner or a party or whatever but we were walking from the outside through the lobby to go up to our rooms and ESPN was on in the bar in the lobby and they were a huge think. This was when this part of the story haven't but I think Lemieux Gretzky had been called in to sort of trying to salvage some version of the season at the last second. You know like I said it was February. Two Thousand and two thousand five season but at that point this season was on the verge of essentially being cancelled in no Stanley Cup. But of course the huge difference between that and now is no one's going to a hotel known going to the bar in the lobby. Nobody's gathering for a wedding. Were all just sitting at home staring at the screen. I think it's I mean it's bringing out the best and the worst people really is You take a step back and you have to slow down and you have to really rely on people around you to get through it. And so yeah. It's definitely a shock for everyone involved in I was actually browsing on the nextdoor APP. Which is kind of like a neighborhood. I don't know why Awesome. Teenagers and young adults offering like run errands for their elderly neighbors and You know seeing people just all pitch in and income together. It's it's Kinda cool. I tried to look at that over the toilet paper tackling ESCO but Yeah I mean I think it's it's just a matter of time where we get through it and Just hand Saniez your best friend right now. Having their some you know obviously we love our mantras here on all the king's men and I think the one that I'm close to adding recently is I'm GonNa blow it right now because of the hat. The gist of it is it hard. Times don't character they reveal. There's a shorter version of the more succinct version of that. Yeah saying but that's the gist of it is that you know you either have character. You don't and it's times like these when it comes to shine so I know that we have been tasked with supporting the message to you know. Be careful and how to be saved what what are what is the. Nhl Like to tell their fans at a time like this. I mean I think it's the it's not even as a child but like the World Health Organization. Cdc everyone is saying obviously be careful with your hygiene practices washer hands. He's hand sanitizer Don't touch your face your mouth which I've never realized how much I eat with my hands. I'm like I'm an I'm an animal But I think yeah practicing those safety measures limiting your time In social circumstances obviously now in California restaurants and bars reclosed so it makes it a lot easier but Stay home because even though you may be young and healthy There is someone's family member. Who could be at risk and you just a lot of times? Don't know that you're spreading it inadvertently. So Listen take it seriously. We definitely have time now to be careful and be smart about it. So don't be stupid for the last ten days or so. Every time I would do something I would think to myself I wonder when the next time I get to do. This is the last game for example as I'm leaving staple center in the streets are empty. And there's a ton of news vans outside of staples like midnight which I'm assuming was so that they could. Do you know that pointless live shot of the reporter in front of a place where nothing's happening so that they could say nothing happening here? Jim and what in about but anyway? I'm curious you mentioned in Barsha down. What was the last food you ate that? You didn't prepare yourself. I honestly don't know I need to think about that. I thought so every game at staples like Saturday night to treat myself and I get the press box chips with Jalapenos. That's retreat treat at. I know for those are unaware. It's basically a pot full of stale chips under a heat. Lamp with some melted. Felty but yeah. Diabetes are actually bomb like Tangy but hot anyways. It's the little things you got to take money. Need by. Seven of 'em hotdogs led George. Yeah but that's the first thing I thought it was. Oh God I'm not going to be able to get some Jalapenos in me now for the rest of the season But just stocking up on some foods at home. I feel bad for the people who never learned how to cook. I saw a tweet saying shout out to all my ex boyfriends who don't know how to Cook writes the I'll get my last food place but that so I went shopping on Thursday or something like that before at and I went through the end. Of course the entire grocery stores ransacked and there were very few things leftover and the bread. I'll I mentioned this on twitter but I'll say it again here. There were only brioche loaf with chocolate chips and Irish Oda bread. Leftover now I happen to have grown up with a mother who every march would buy three lows of Irish Soda Bread. Put THEM IN THE FRIDGE. And then we would ration them out over the next three or four months just eating a piece a day and join it so. I was thrilled at Irish And Brioche loaf with chocolate chips I have the pallet of a four year old Which I've been mocked for most of my adult life and I have never pushed back on but I'm in heaven now because there was a the only things left. My grocery store were lay's potato chips peanut butter and chocolate chip bread. So like I'm I'm not even look at the vegetables section. Actually I have more produce in my fridge now than ever have but on the way home and this is why I brought it up out of curiosity on the way home I was hungry and I was like well in an effort to make what I've just bought from the grocery store last a little bit longer. I will go get fast food with the knowledge that this could be the last time for a while that I go get fast food. Yeah even like I had a haircut plan for Agile in. It's just those little things that you really take for granted That you don't have access to on a daily basis during a time like this so I'm proud to announce the Kentucky Fried Chicken which I almost I almost never ever eat at Kentucky Fried Chicken. But I I we all going to gain the quarantine fifteen. I'm hoping to lose the CORENTIN hundred fifty but I I was saying to a friend. I'm either GONNA get really fit from doing like home workout to go for like three walks a day because there's just nothing else to do or I'm going to get really fat. We'll just see what happens. We'll find out we'll find out together. I know but anyway it all be okay so We we've been tasked with doing a an appropriate transition from Talking about what's going on before we start. You know headlong back into hockey stuff and obviously there are no games to cover. But that shouldn't be challenged and we will be producing more content about the team in prospects in the future and all sorts of stuff you're used to but earlier this season Robin we. We did a player polls correct. We did yeah. We talk all the guys and ask them hard hitting questions about their favorite books. Food travel spots things like that so We wanted to share their book movie and TV. Show recommendation. So that you guys at home can ask ideas on what to watch and how to entertain yourself during this time before we jump into that. I also want to stress. We are doing bobby. Ores Book for the Book Club And that will that episode will happen sometime in early April. Hopefully the first week. We're trying to work out the schedules given everybody's situations but if you need you. "That's that's something that I would have to defer to someone who maybe has some type of marketing man background in research. I'll take a stab at Asian. I think having a regional connection to a team helps. Let's say if the stars played preseason games in Albuquerque or had the kings went on those barnstorming tours with Gretzky rate and all of a sudden team started popping in areas where they played Florida Texas Arizona. It didn't have one in Idaho. I don't think I'd take a long time. Still may be the case. Where Texas has the most professional hockey teams like depending on? How many different levels should go down the point? It was Dallas. They had Houston with the arrows. They had the Allen Americans. They had another team somewhere else. They have now they have the Texas Stars San Antonio Rampage though. They're moving right. Yeah I think it's a combination of you have to see it in person but the professional teams that exist like the Kings nurtured the Las Vegas Market for years and built up attention Fox. Sports West is carried in Nevada although they don't air are games anymore because blackout restrictions. But I think the kings played a large part of the reason why Las Vegas is a successful hockey market today. That that's my take at least I don't have to take all right one all right. We'll move on to deep tristen asks. What brand and what amount of hair product is Jim? Fox us to get that amazing head of hair. Wow well first of all we'd have to go to Robin Felix. I just got my hair done today. I am he has done. My hair is what we say. Yeah he is. Cut My hair for at least twenty five years if not longer. I'd have to delve into it a little bit deeper. Let me see reaching right now because I really going back of the brand name you carry it with you well. I have my broadcasting bag so I have my makeup with me and it is d colon. Fis who defy extreme hold styling cream styling cream for extreme cold and Cheyenne is. You do have extreme hold and Shine Crema Pot. Melita actually lawsuits foreign okay. Cream poor wound success. Y'All Britannia X ray. I've been pushed onto something called Fido P. H. Y. T. O. But I I bought something just. Cvs called Fixture Lid. So defy. I defy anyone to find a better accidentally cream this well. I don't want as much shining my here. That's answer for me. All right. Jessi our producer. What do you have for our final question? Was there ever a year where the quote unquote wrong team won the cup? That's an extremely Jesse Cohen question because Are If you're not familiar with Jesse and all the king's men and that podcast he. He asks a lot of questions in a very whimsical fashion. Sometimes the wrong team won the Stanley Cup. You are yes. Nineteen ninety-three nicely. I like that answer. Well don't leave Jesse hanging. Hi Five even though we're supposed to not hold. I've handed high-fives anymore for those out there and I've got I've got a really brush up on my gibbs's rules k. Ncis the question reminds me of like. There are no coincidence. So I know the team. That wins went team wins. That's it never wrong team. Now that we've been through it and I've been able to a chance to see it day after day after day. During a playoff run that ends up in the Stanley Cup. They're so many things after come together so it's never happened taken aback not even nineteen ninety-three. I would say I don't believe in Jinx's or curses but I believe. Canada has been jinxed and cursed by way of the Marty mcsorley incident and they have not had a team win the Stanley Cup. Since wow if I even believed in those things which I don't but if I did that would be my boss. I think the game is won on the ice. It would have been interesting in hindsight. I know it. It's you know means a lot to us here that that we were a part of that Stanley Cup final but it would have been interesting to see Toronto Montreal. Final that year and given crazy that kings may believe series was how that's one of the best playoff series time still That's still would have been an interesting series. Then you know when we were there obviously in a member Barry Melrose the head coach of the Kings at the time and he almost put a little bit of a ban on talking to hockey night in Canada. Of course they were very middle of the road. An unbiased and they wanted to. They wanted Montreal. Toronto yeah played. We played all Canadian teams. If I'm not mistaken in that playoff year so we were the hated team you know. They're they're all wanting that next Canadian team to win a Stanley Cup. And we put a Nixon that until the end of course with Montreal but Yeah there was for a national broadcast. I guess I can certainly understand it because they are the national broadcasting the Canadian heavy public team so broadcaster for all Canada Yep so it was it was A. They were rooting and Barry. I think very smartly used that as a motivational tool used as a distraction he used to get away from certain negative that were going on and turn it around and build up the Kings in the unfortunately built them up as good as he possibly could and just didn't have enough the. Yeah if they had one gene to would history of changed yes the. Kings would have been up to nothing. In that Theresa we go.

"But you know it's again it's the skillset Gimmie three weeks. I think you'd be good at it. I really do. You see the game really well. Yeah but again. It's a it's a different skill. Swipe I had never done it before. Yeah and people they say you're an announcement and they jump all and then they were. You know it was an even hoover my producer. Yeah he was. You can do it. I think it was. Hoover might've been Bob Working Geez. I can't remember who it was but it was like after the first you know. Oh you can do it. You'll you'll be fine after both the first five minutes. I could hear your voice going home disaster. This is that would terrify. Imagine you don't say ever did was in the NHL first game so it was an interesting moment. It was a learning experience but again I try to now when I talk to any group especially kids are coming up or wanting to be no. I'm talking about the wise of things of how things are happening To have a rhythm is completely different. No for play by play guy you build up rhythm and again you you you get to sit in situations where you're ending a phrase after a save or or the plays developing you have those Safeway's I had no clue though that's the one thing people do ask a lot is like how do you you know you've almost got to the point where you finish each other's sentences and I'm like well you know when you work with somebody long enough you you pick up on certain verbal cues and certain cadences with how they talk that you just jump right in. But we're we're in your three though I would say in the last three weeks. I've been jumping on you more than I have. Maybe the previous two months so I told you I got. I think it's going to take five years before you have yet for me. Anyway to get to that point where we're I really am comfortable knowing when and they're still going to be times when I just it just happens to you. Know it's my job to stay out of your way when you're calling the play and then you know when the whistle blows. It's up to you. Drop to get out as quick as possible for the for the color analyst and then in the middle of plates. It's you know that's that's what some people don't understand. Why is he talking in the middle of play on like guys like sometimes? We don't have whistles. Optima need to actually hear the how and the why even when you're in the middle of play and the parks in the neutral zone I every once in a while there's a shot and goes in from there but that helps us every ten years kind of like when the -mergency goaltender comes in and winning exactly I'll hedge. They'll take that risk all right. Surely what do you enjoy doing on your day off? Surely you can't be serious. Gosh don't call me Shirley. To what do I enjoy doing on my day off besides the Elliptical Sometimes I enjoy the elliptical voice times. I do not enjoy it. Looks like you're in pain every time you use. Well I'm paying about ninety five percent. You got a lot going on. But I would there's sometimes on the elliptical where I can actually. I can almost fall asleep. I close my eyes now. I'm on every day for an hour every day. I can close my eyes and I find myself almost asleep and I'm still going at the same pace. I'm still burning the same amount of calories as I normally do to me. It's you know it's dinner with my wife. That's all just dinner with my wife. Sometimes there's other couples there you know we've been out together many times and I was growing up. Never had the opportunity never went to a restaurant. I enjoy being served. So that's I love to go to a place where someone takes care of the cooking and everything else and you know you pay for it and you pay a service fee and gratuity. But that's what I just like to. I like going on like a long walk around the neighborhood. We we We live in Playa Vista and the trails are right there. And it's you know you can spend two and a half hours and do the entire between all them me and my wife walked. Walk Round those all. The time really enjoyed that. Then I don't I don't like too much idle time especially in season. And that's why the ten daybreak. I was so fortunate to be working because otherwise you just do start to like drive yourself crazy. I had an anxiety attack in the in the break. I every once in a while have them. I'm sure people out there who struggle with it. No you never know when it's coming but exactly what you're talking about Alex for me that idle time boom. My head starts spinning. What's going on? I've been there I I like. I like time off but that was a little bit too long and I started to go if there if there is a term for stir crazy. That's that's what I started to do and But one thing now that I've struggled with it for many years as this I do have it in my brain. Now that it will go away it will go away at least it has for me it. Pops up less and less now. Maybe it's because I've come to understand the how to feel it. I feel the tightness in my chest and then I can kinda get around it that way and sought professional help to to help me with that type of stuff but man stir-crazy it was it was it was weird there There has been talk. Just one kind of relevant. No there was talk at the general managers. Meeting is not something they can sort out there of of getting rid of that ten daybreak and maybe doing something with it I would love to that. Cut It up right five daybreak that you can put within that but I think they want at least you know more than the normal church Just now coming out right. We've had. We've got a lot of injuries out of the bye week. This year that I think concerns. General managers should concern. The players like that will be studied. That will be data will be compiled on that stuff. Yeah all right so the LA kings ask which regional broadcast team in the NHL would come out on top. An anchorman style brawl. Wow good question so regional yes Louis debrusk does. That's true. Does the ten count. She probably? I'd leave him out because you take him. I don't observe partner. I don't want to face those fists about that would be. That's that's difficult to hire. His own has got some tough guys. They got national. They got Biz young. Yeah what we're combining radio and TV. Now he does pre and post insure intermission features. Kind Accounts Yeah Biz. Tang Saint Louis. I think you'd be okay with that. I think it would make short work of him but now I think that's that's interesting. I know the back in the day we used to talk about that. We used to say. Hey before the game is something breaks out. You've got this really just for fun I'd still. That's WHO's WHO's around. Let's go well. Gosh Danny pop recently retired. I mean that was probably the most intimidating guy like you shake your hand and he break your hand. I remember playing against him for the first time and everyone on the kings are saying watch out for pot and he's GonNa come across. He used to go low for a hip check. Which don't do anymore and you know. Watch out watch for trump coming and that he would be an he catch anyway. He just kind of like Rob Blake. If you can't figure out how common that boom he's there. I WOULDN'T WANNA face Andy Brickley that Nelson. He's a big dude. Big Jack Jack. Edwards is kind of he's cunning in that way. Oh Jack is he's crazy. I wouldn't want to go psycho on. Yeah exactly and he would call it at the same time. He's got it right. He's about in a in an all out. Anchorman style brawl between the kings and ducks tres. who's got hayward well together. We've had the head that like some NBC Games. Were all together at once that this is the rule right. I'm the ex player so you can't get going can't pick on all right so you have to take that would just be against the the unwritten rule of just can't grab the goaltender. I find it really amusing. Actually that when we worked together knowing how much kings fans hate the fact that we worked together at all and then when he when he's on a kings game and know. I have to preface it with the fans like just so you know this is happening still. I think Rubs people the wrong way. I don't make those decisions. I only get told aware to work. In with whom? I don't have any say otherwise you know? Obviously we wouldn't be partnered up exactly Speaking of since I mentioned Andy Brickley Boston. Bruins this is from Shukri rights. Do you think the Boston Bruins. At least make it to the Stanley Cup. Final Again This Year Well oiled. Machine is the way I describe them. I think once again. There's something missing. I don't know what it is to feeling more than anything else I think if you break it down they match up. But they're kind of a sum of the parts team too. I know their top line is where the call the perfection. So they do. They have every element on that line. It kind of drops off of that but then when you go to the bottom section the bottom. Peres they always seem to find guys that are going to play with the same style in the same speed. The same urgency I'm going off the board this year with some teams that I let off the West. I'm going with Dallas Right now. Which is just you know. They're not at the top. They're not at the bottom now solid. Yeah and in the east. I'm going with Tampa Bay. I know they bend at the top but they haven't won. They haven't had success in the playoffs. So I it's just really difficult to tell that way. I think Boston if you're looking at if you were a betting person tough to to look the other way because of the elements and the precision in which they asked execute as you know. I've been picking them from the beginning of the year they are. They are my favorite for the Stanley Cup..

"All right this week changing up the format a little bit. There are a few few news items that probably WanNa hit right off the top but after we play that wonderful new intra music in just a moment. This is like the all request Radio Hour. It's all listener questions that have been backlogged and We haven't had a chance to touch yet so I've got one thing to ask right off. The top general managers were meeting in Boca Raton. What a life right to go to resort Georgia one in Boca Raton. And they have the off season meetings. It's a great great little resort thing there as an aside anything that came out of the that you liked didn't like -mergency goalie things staying the same salary cap is. We might have two years of clarity versus one. Offside anything all of it stood out to me We mentioned before that they have been looking to try to figure out something with the emergency goaltender situation and when we talked about it. We admitted that it's it's just very difficult. It's it's not one of those subjects where you can go okay. Here's the answer. It just didn't work that way and they ain't found that probably because it happens so rarely they don't really need to tweak it The salary cap is good for everyone as far as cost certainty. I think everyone wants that. I think the fans want it. I think the players want it. I think the owners want That that just helps. The offside more than anything of the tweak of the rule is breaking a plane as opposed to having to have your skate on the ice to me it will. Certainly they're still going to be some times where that edge of the plane is still going to be very difficult to see but I anticipate much less time. Being spent now uncertain circumstances to try to find the best view the view that just ends all questions and I think that'll happen less and less than faster and faster and if anything we've talked about on this podcast is with a replay. Just have to speed it up and this must be cut down on kind of very small margin reviews. I've had this argument with Luke by the way Lou. Bataille is all in favor of keeping your skate down on the ice and the Blue Line and whatnot and I told him dude like we'd have your views we'd have more goals and it would just be easier for everybody once again. There will still be times where even though you don't care where the state is touching the ice where it will be difficult to tell whether it's actually breaking the plane. Sure there's still going to be that in cultures and conclusive video and then go on. Let's move over at move on. Great I actually you know what I I lied. I'M GONNA GET TO ONE QUESTION BEFORE. We hit our wonderful music from our producer. Jesse Cohen Should the Carolina Hurricanes Retired Jersey number ninety. Jack Wade asks this. Because that seems like a very Carolina Hurricanes thing that would happen Carolina. Hurricanes can do anything. They want to say that I would say this. And maybe I'm overreacting to the situation. One of the everglades would diminish every other retired Jersey. Ever done I agree I and you know what for a guy who is playing for them right now whereas number fourteen. I'm sure he would May Be a little slighted. Okay One other thing from GM's meeting I. This was a very under the radar nugget. Because I've talked before about player in tracking and it's coming and supposedly is going to be in for the playoffs. I'm a little bit more skeptical now than I was a couple months ago that the NHL will actually do it. Because GM's you know they get scared of these sort of things sometimes. Apparently the NHL secretly deployed these pucks. That have the chips in them. Unbeknownst to twenty four different teams they were using the new pucks and nobody knew and nobody could tell. Nobody I love it. I love that. Why would they be able to tell nuts? There's no difference. It's basically the same thing. It's just got latronic thing in there. Did you hear the story about when they did the Old Fox? Oh Yeah Jackson. Eager Larionov had a bucket of pucks and they put in the one or two of those pucks every time of twenty and every single time when he took it out he could tell exactly when you were worried about and supposedly Sidney crosby at all I can tell the edge. Work is different than then came out. This little nugget from GM's means Total Baloney player tracking. Here we go. I like people used to hate. They used to hate it. When you actually saw the score on the screen corner you have. All the technical terms for scoreboard bug. And oh the the Scroll on the bottom. All hate all the lines on the field. You know that just now. You can't live without it. You can thank Fox sports for a lot of that in the NHL was one of the first to have the live score bug and that was the revolutionary technology that got the first and ten line in for the NFL in the NFL came to Fox. So you can thank the NHL for a lot of those technological enhancements all right you ready for an all request. Radio Hour I am. I will preface by. I have not seen any of the questions..

"We're here to talk pocketbook stuff today on talking tech that you've heard me say over the last few months how concerned I am with both the rising cost of cable and streaming youtube. Tv cost thirty five dollars monthly in twenty nineteen. Now it's fifty dollars monthly. The reason all those sports fees that. I don't WanNA participate in so I found it rather bittersweet this week when Youtube announced it was dumping some forty two regional teams from its network due to excess pricing demands from Sinclair Broadcast Group. Which owns the streaming rights to games from the New York Yankees in La Kings for example? Good Move Youtube. But where does this leave us? I got some ideas. I'm Jefferson Graham. And you're listening to talking Tech Youtube. Tv is one of a handful of cable. Tv alternatives aimed at streaming fans. Who want to pay less for fewer channels than cable. I'm a youtube subscriber and the last I look. I'm still paying fifty dollars monthly for the service which as good as it is is still drastically overpriced. I liked it. I get the broadcast networks and the news channels but there are so many channels. I will never watch from cozy and Smithsonian to TNT TBS and especially the sports channels. I don't know where they are. I've never turn them on. Don't kill me but there's some of us who just aren't interested in sports and happened. Feel strongly that they shouldn't have to pay for it if they don't watch that's why I like Filo td a streaming service aimed at non sports fans with sells for twenty dollars monthly. How do they do it? No sports fees. Well that's all well and good but there's no news channels either and I need that so scratch. Filo Youtube decision to stand firm against the rising costs of sports is a good one but because it didn't lower the monthly fee doesn't help me so. I have an idea. Get rid of all the sports all of it. Put It on a separate here for the fan. Who wants the programming? Let me subscribe to Youtube for what I want. I'll be happy and not subject to the endless contract battles which nine times out of ten seemed to involve sports fees. I know I'm dreaming here. But it's my dream and I'm entitled to

"Can we get the Florida teams to do an outdoor game humanities issue with the ice-making there? I'm I'm I don't like Warm Weather Stadium Games for outdoor hockey. Do it in cold weather cities. Even if you have to repeat some Seattle comes in. That'll be another opportunity to do outdoor thing. I I just the I understand for team like Arizona to want to do something like that. Here's where it can work. I in this is my opinion. I think the next stadium series game after Carolina should be at Army West Point and it should be Vegas Golden Knights against the New York Rangers. Bill fully connection to the army that the whole idea of the Black Knights. That's why name the Golden Knights put them against the Rangers. Mikey Stadium Hudson Valley perfect perfect to me. This is what I would do because I've been there before. I would put up bleachers for twenty five thousand people on the beach in Manhattan. I love this. I've heard this before I love this idea. And that's where I have. I think that's brilliant. Now would only be twenty five thousand four free. Adp Vance and back in the day. I don't know if the bleachers were actually twenty-five but the a lot of people it gets infrastructure you know to me is something that will now change traction and we get an ice January dropped to like sixty two degrees. Kathy gets in the fifties sometimes the waves coming up. I've softened up Jim whenever whenever whenever that little chill in the air and I'm in the South Bay like Oh man I could really use it cold right now and I've I've all my east coast friends they're like. Oh you softened up. Yeah Yeah I have all right. Let's keep going This was a topic we talked about big time on the plane back. I believe it was from Winnipeg. Evanger CAIN former Winnipeg jet pretty blunt comments about the Department of player safety. I'm going to read his comment. And then I know we had a great discussion about what the what the players are thinking. Right now about department player saved because let's be honest none of them ever like punishment. But here's what he said Let's see that there is a major lack of consistency with NHL Department of player safety a completely flawed system in so many ways from suspensions to appeal rights. It is baffling to me. How we is players agreed to this. You can't continue to give some players a pass and throw the book on others. There has to be an outside third party making these decisions to remove the bias. The transpires in this department headed by George Perils. None of it makes any sense. The context of this you got a three game suspension for eight clear elbow that deserved a suspension. But then he goes off in spouts out against the player safety. What's your take on this completely unprofessional on needed? If you have a beef. Don't get personal by mentioning George Perros by name. I think it was a personal attack. As opposed to an attack on bias he mentioned and also Vander. Pick your battles. You went into contact. You extended your elbow well away from the normal with your shoulders. I don't know if there's a better example of targeting the head that I've ever seen that one right there yes? There may be some inconsistencies but I know given the opportunity player safety can explain their thought process at the end of it. I know there's a lot of players that don't agree with the explanation but it is there and we will talk about one more time and we'll probably talk about it again. I think the only addition that player safety needs to do is. This is three to five times a week. You take an example of a play that was not deemed to be fit the criteria for supplemental discipline and explain why not the explanations they put out on the why should be and why it is. And how many Games thinker? Well done detailed but if they could do the same thing in reverse this reason for this reason this was not deemed to be into the criteria of supplemental discipline. I think that would go a long way to the process of educating and eliminating would evanger. Cain feels is inconsistency. I would tend to believe that every time. The regime change meaning the head of that department changes. I think there is a subtle moven. How they view things but I would think that. They are more consistent now than they've ever been built up a case history us. That's the thing with all these explanation videos they it. It's hard to contradict themselves. We did it with Reinhard in Buffalo and I'm going to give a vander a little media one on one training here It's unfortunate that I use my elbow to make that head contact. I think I've seen similar cases around the League at the time and I look forward to discussing that with George. Perros where he can help me and I can help him and hopefully move on in the future so these things can be dealt with on a more consistent basis. I don't like to pick and choose your social media responses. I take on this and I think this is. I saw this on twitter. The this one really spoke to me. Hey Vander stop throwing elbows at the head and you won't have to worry about it. The NHLPA should be more concerned that their members are regularly attacking each other with dangerous plays and then have to sit there and defended. Its strong takes quick but I I. I like that point of view of just like well. If you don't WANNA get suspended don't throw high elbow. He used the wrong example to try to make his case. Because this one was pretty clear to me and what I mentioned Reinhardt and I mentioned Mister Cain here vander. It's I know at the moment. There's emotions that happen but then you can fix it the next day when the emotions are gone you can you can re assess and offer another verbal opinion on what just took place and I think when you're more under control vander probably doesn't feel that way and I know there are players that feel that the inconsistency having been a player Rep and he mentioned. The players agreed to this. I know how it is because as a player up I would go back to information to our players and distribute the information. They wouldn't listen. They didn't care asked him the next day. What you discussed no idea. So I'm making the assumption that similar communications nowadays. It's a little easier because they can send clips to all these players via email. We didn't have that when I was playing player up. You have to just hold an actual meeting and but I I think that you know he he. He's raising a point and the point is if he disagrees with what they agreed to. He has to bring that up in a formal setting with. He's sticking point of view. I don't like the way he does. I too personal now. You know when you heard about it. You're mad you're emotional. You do it. I can live with that but the next day you've got to come up with. I look forward to sitting down with George perilous at a later date so we can figure out and get on the same page here and you know part of the reason why he wasn't thrilled almost exactly a year prior Kane got elbowed in the face Biza Dino Chara. It went unpenalised in the game. I was no hearing no disciplined. Cain missed several games and just days prior to this year. Chara got fined for a cross check. That looked fairly violent. And so he I'm. I'm just making the assumption that he's connecting the dot saying well he didn't get suspended for that and I'm get suspended for this player. Safety did make the announcement in both cases and they talked about height differential ends. Edina would be one of the few players on not saying I agree with it especially with crosscheck but they did have a tangible reason why they felt it was not suspended. He got five grand a fine which now not get supplemental discipline but they and they know players know that if there is a huge discrepancy in size that can be used as one of the factors. You can disagree with how they use that rule at that time but that was the reasoning for it. There was a tangible reason. You can disagree with the reason. I'm sure he does. I just WANNA see us going back to players exacting. Vigilante Justice that to me is a step backwards for the league because that's how it was in Europe and and and you know there are some players that are still around. We've talked to them and they wouldn't mind him but those are usually the guys that have been around town. Yeah yeah I I just think as a League in the twenty first century having a Department of player safety which granted they operate Kinda on their own. Anyway yeah the consultation from hockey ops and Colin Campbell and all that but they're chartered with doing this on their own without having the commissioner or the or guy like Colin Campbell and hockey operations to have to chime in like. They're tasked with being able to handle this stuff on their own. It's it's not independent but and the appeal process. I'm sure so many fish Some of the players have a problem with that. But that's what collective bargaining is for. That's when you go in and make that a priority that we need to change this process so if it goes to an appeal. You're not appealing to Gary Bettman. You're appealing to a third party. Independent group Y'all have a CBS negotiation. Using all right one more before we For he had some questions this week. Big Celebration or last week or so was the fortieth anniversary of the miracle on ice. And I've I've always been curious because it was before I was born and we always you know We we see the film from from ABC Sports and then we see the Disney movie. Come Out I've been curious this week. What was that like from a Canadian point of because we've talked about your experiences with Russia? And how almost personal that sort of thing was for you at the time but night take me back to one thousand nine hundred eighty and that experience. It was interesting once again for me because in seventy nine I played in the world junior championships and there was a handful of players on the Russian team that I played against the crew. Tops Larionov's Yari careers playing for Finland and I played against them so I had a little bit but it really was too. I was auto at two time playing my lascher junior. I remember watching the final game. Which was the game against Fillon? I remember not thinking much about it at all. Because in Canada we were able to use their best players because the best players were professionals at that time. Canada really didn't have a process to develop and put together a national team. They did but it was kind of makeshift. Your thing was the summit series to that happened before then. So you'd already had a crack at the rush and you know it's I didn't i. It was it was in the back of my mind but then I remember watching the gold medal the last game against feeling and I'm gone guys. Don't blow it. Don't blow it. You got this far. You can't blow it so I found. I found myself cheering for the US team. Where previous to the I just didn't have. I didn't have any thoughts about the US rush. I knew what was going on the turmoil in the world. I knew the political things but it didn't hit me. Canada had removed itself from that discussion. The Olympics were weren't that important and then I found myself watching on my bed in my bedroom in Ottawa. Going jumping up and down on the bad guys. You can't blow it and they were behind world you can't you can't beat one of the best teams ever assembled. And then and you know there could be an emotional letdown. Let's face completely but so I was. I was engaged way more than than I thought it would be. And it wasn't until their chance to win the gold against feeling that I I was just I was in it. Jimmy no what you've just revealed to me You root for the underdog or they weren't the underdog against Finland were they. They were okay. I heard I think it was Lucero talking about Atari was. They certainly weren't the favorite. No not a heavy favourite by any stretch. It's got you got you on one. Yeah all right. Let's get to some questions here. We got a lot because the the La Kings twitter account re tweeted US so ton poured. I'm going to see if we can get through this. Do I'm GonNa put a clock myself okay. So that which is goes against the whole reason you do. A podcast a podcast. You have a chance to explain yourself but to get to as many court. I want to get these menu and we'll just try to put like a like thirty thirty to sixty seconds Favorite Sport to watch other than hockey This is from Chris. Ramirez Soccer for me. It used to be baseball I I do watch tennis. But not a ton. Outside of the grant I've worked in the sport obviously I still like watching college basketball. March madness to me. I stay glued to it during a tournament. The most amazing sporting event. I have ever been to outside of hockey the Stanley Cup Championships. The women's World Cup. Ooh Yeah final. You went to that ninety nine Roseville. Wow wife Susan and I were sitting in the end zone ongoing. Pass my thirty seconds. But this is great. Yeah.

"la kings" Discussed on Fox and Faust | LA Kings

"Who happens to work for the team. Wow how crazy was that on Saturday night. Intermission was very important for Carolina to get to that intermission because Toronto is getting right there. They go to intermission to make it happen phenomenal story. I know that for at least a year now the NHL has been working on. I'm talking about the management of GM's. Gm's on working on a different scenario and it's very difficult to come up with because that position of goaltending is so unique. Once you get into the game it's even more unique because I don't know if there's any other sport where a certain position whereas completely different equipment than the other positions so you would have to change the player coming in wouldn't be used to that. So what teams are looking to do now or as a league. They're looking to try to find a way to have a third goaltender. Maybe non-roster so cap doesn't fit all those but still would be almost traveling with the team. What's your take on this? I want to know? Are you in favor of the way it currently is with emergency goaltenders or would you want to see this traveling third goaltender or something like pro? I just can't see it working with the. There would be more familiarity with that guy if he was on your roster but again. I don't think or non roster player that was on your team I don't think like a bullpen catcher. And they wouldn't really. I don't think they would participate in practice so to speak. At least you want your normal guys to get their normal wraps maybe post practice. They'd be out there and taking the extra shots because one goaltender usually leaves the next day starter usually leaves early so it can happen. It's just a very unique situation. I know they're trying to figure it out. I don't have the answer. What would it does end up being a great story? But there's a little bit of a quirkiness to to that you just in no other sport no other sport which you have this football. You're not gonNA find some guy out of the stands to be a fourth string quarterback baseball position players but Ching but these backup goaltenders the merge sickle aren't out of the stands. They have been selected Wesley. They they've had to pass some type of a test. I mean it's not like you just go up and say hey who's kings how to try out a couple of years now so you know but I. I know where you're going. I know where you're going. It's it's really weird and to that extent I kind of I don't know if it's positive or negative. Oh I think it's a huge positive. I'll see I didn't I don't land is the NHL going to be on the today show. Yeah no no no no I think the story great story that comes out of it but I think because of the unique situation that surrounds the goal tending position to come up. The answer. We're looking for is so difficult but again when you when I hear you say no other sport to me. There's a negative there. It means that what you should find an answer to this. You shouldn't be happening that way. But it's a great story these guys do come in. We've seen it a couple times guy recently so it helps foster and they know they can handle themselves. They they've practiced. He was a practice goaltender but playoff positions are relying. You know you get into. How can you imagine if the leaves? Every leaf's fan is thinking this right now every single one. Can you imagine if they missed by one point and Carolina makes it? Can you imagine that happen? Oh talk about great story. Then oh my gosh but I I mean I'm thinking of it from the perspective of what if it happened eighteen and okay. It'd be a great story. How would you like to be on the other end of that? You don't want to be on the other and I thought the best part of the story was and it was not g rated but when it handed out was that in two words summarized it was great. I you know what my take on this. I love the quirkiness of it. And I've been thinking about this in recent days This is maybe a little bit of an aside and I I was thinking again. This is a topic but baseball. Recently with the announcement that there's a consideration of a metal with our playoff format and change it. Make it interactive. Some team can pick their opponent the NBA looking to tweak their thing. And I'm sitting back and looking at the NHL the NFL looking to expand their season right. I'm sticking sitting back looking at the NHL. And knowing what Gary Bettman loves about this league is that there is for the first time in a long while stability Labor wise schedule wise. They're expanding their growing. And I think right now other than some rules tweaks that we've talked about on this podcast. I wouldn't change hardly anything about this league right now. They're in such a good space And both sides I think our agreement right management side the ownership side and the players side. They're both in a pretty good agreement of what's going on the only thing we've talked about and mentioned one more time because it happened in the NBA. Game Lakers Celtics. The video review has to have a time limit. It has that we've talked about it and we do know that at some point it's going to happen where the winning goal in overtime of the seventh game of the Stanley Cup. Final is going to happen. And there's GonNa be a delay to verify the goal. It's going to be the worst but as long as they can get some time limit set in you brought it up because you experience it firsthand when you do tennis just the immediacy of how quickly they have to make the call but then also how much time those video review officials. I'm ex player. I'm all for getting it right. I would hate to be in a situation where a minute later they found. This new look showed conclusively that the ruling was incorrect. But I think the fan experience. There's a little bit that that Celtic Laker game. I mean it was a great fourth quarter back and forth one point two points hardly three and then you know twice really long extended delay Swan again. That's why I love for. The sport is right now. This mortar hockey. I think they've they've one thing they have nailed with some bumps in the road like anything else but they've nailed this idea video review. We talked about it a lot reviews down. Challenges are down like success. Rate and challenges has gone up. Because it's only the obvious ones. I think they have done a phenomenal job in getting this right. I'm going to move on because we got a lot to cover We were at the stadium series. We had glass seats. Were doing radio for Westwood. One really cool experience. I thought The only thing I will say that was the most negative thing from our perspective. I know there are others. That had trouble getting. The stadium is a different story Toe warmers completely useless. Hold on don't you remember what happened? What we got onto the plane lower now aster we get onto the plane. Taking my sticky. Foot warmers off. The toll warmers because you have stickiness to put them on the top or the bottom of your toes I had both coverage sides covered did not activate at all during the game. Nothing I get on the plane half an hour later I go to pick them up and they are red hot. It was like Kohl's well thanks. I need it now. That's I'm going to my huge complaint would be to the to`manufacture for both of us. They did not work when we were outside when we needed them. Most a hand warmer fine activated around your hand. It's cool but yeah that was it was. I thought it was perfect. I'm not telling anyone anything they don't know if you were there because you need it to be called That's hockey. That's why you want that experience doors but the wind was under control because the son had already gone down. You don't have glare. I thought the ice conditions were phenomenal. We were right there. You could just see it to players the it was really working well And then of course you know the military aspect and the cadets that are there and their chance to be upfront close and personal it was Justa and Tyler Toffoli Patrick Dinner. I always a fun of it was a fun event. Yeah I know that there was an issue with folks getting in and out of the avalanche the avalanche bearing the brunt of a lot of it and I know the Air Force Academy Heads in trouble with as well. There were warnings to get their super early. And we got stuck in that traffic and we could understand why because military base. The parking situation isn't great. They're even for Air Force Football Games. I've heard But there are some folks demanding refunds so just a cautionary tale for whoever wants to host next every local news channel. The previous day the day of the game when I was watching. That's all they were talking about was parking and how difficult it was going to be if it was a surprise to you then. That's your fault but I still understand people off with what would happen because of it just went too long. It went a wound up being a meaning disaster for those who missed a good chunk of the game. I don't blame them for for asking for a refund. Swag bag hall man. Thank you. La Kings beautiful. Oh my gosh two. We get hit with just amazing. Slagle everything the players got. Here's an interesting one and then I'll move on Note and Elliott Friedman's column last week before the trade deadline the Arizona. Coyotes are pushing for a game in Mexico City at the estadio s Decca. Or maybe somewhere else. I don't like warm. You did the two stadium. You were there for the two stadium series here in California. What did you think of those warm weather outdoor hockey just and you were there for Caesar's Palace ninety-one Yup I th dodger? Stadium is iconic sure. So we're down there before the game and you're on the pitchers now and you're looking up. The view looking up reminded me. I mentioned at the time like I was Russell. Crowe in gladiator. I was looking up and you could just see the the the deck round but baseball stadiums. Because they're not symmetrical to the way. The ice rink fits it. Just you know you can get some bad seats there. So that's a complete experience. Yeah I think I think the Colorado Springs cold you need that and it was a perfect size stadium but forty five thousand people's pretty intimate bowl. We're we got the Mexico City altitude thing. That's true considering up those stairs at the Air Force Academy. That was good feel it. Yeah Yeah I know they've been talking about you know..

Wild 6, Avalanche 4: Minnesota stays resilient in thrilling road victory

"And the college football playoff games today and tomorrow but when a Georgia Glendale Arizona so we have a ton of college football to talk about the timber wolves return home to get the Cleveland Cavaliers more on that a little bit later on why don't we start with the wild big win on the road over the Colorado Avalanche a wild one six four I sent out a tweet state Eric if they shrunk the goalie equipment we've seen some high scoring games as of late particularly you for the Minnesota wild this is like the old days yeah it's amazing I know that I know the wild at a shot out win on Monday against Calgary but you look at what happened last night that was six to four they had a six nothing loss a week ago today against Winnipeg they one eight to five nine days ago in the desert against the Arizona coyotes yeah it's just become video game hockey all of a sudden when the Minnesota wild are playing and I think most well fans would tell you and even the wild themselves that you know that's not the kind of game they necessarily want to be in a shootout I think they're more built to win three to two or two to one but they get it done last night in Denver and Devin duplex stopped forty of forty four shots so that's a season high saves for due back in the wild got that late empty net goal to ice the victory at Pepsi center that's pretty good Colorado team they beat on the road any road win the while get I think that's a bonus because we know it home they're one of the better teams right now in the NHL and they have a ton of home games coming up twenty twenty is back loaded with games at the axe for Minnesota so are they in the playoffs yet no but they're definitely in the conversation and as we've seen with the St Louis blues last year all you have to do is get in in the NHL and you and you never know I can't get over this turn around they were dead in the water early in the season I know they played a ton of road games early on they didn't look good they looked old they look slow goaltending looked to be a problem early on in the season and all of a sudden things of magically turned around and a lot of signs point to the veteran guys and Bruce Boudreau the head coach for being able to hang in there and stick with it once again in the NHL we know as much as any league in sport is all you need to do is get into the playoffs and you never know yeah yeah I just need to get in I I mean January of twenty nineteen the St Louis blues were the worst team in the NHL and they had a remarkable turnaround breeding and ample Harley that into a Stanley Cup the LA kings a few years ago or an eight seat and they took that all the way to a Stanley Cup so you're right get in you never know are you brought up Bruce Boudreau let's start there because I think a lot of of folks figured he was on the hot seat early on look he wasn't hired by bill Geren it wasn't even higher by Paul Fenton the guy gear and replaced so you start sluggishly and the team looks listless you figure Hey Boudreaux could be in trouble but the wild stuck with their guy and he's a veteran coach you have to give Bruce Boudreau a lot of credit for for keeping these guys focused on Hey it's a long season we we can still get this thing turned around if we start playing better hockey and then you look at it as you said the veterans Erica Stoll I think you know as a goal and seven of his last eight games including last night he's got thirty two points that leads the wild fifteen goals that leaves the team Ryan Suter is number one and assist with twenty there's another one of those veterans and a guy that eats up a lot of their salary cap because of that mega Bucks deal he in as Zack Parisi so getting the contributions from the older guys is huge because how many times have we talked in the past the V. D. this is a team that doesn't have a lot of wiggle room cap wise to make deals to bring in other players you know that it's it's a hard ceiling in the NHL with the salary cap so to be able to get production from a stall a suitor a Parisi that bodes well for Minnesota's Zach Parisi by the way third on the team in scoring their top three scorers are are the veterans stall so room Parisi Jason Zucker is a young guy who's battling that injury that we know he's fourth right now with with points but none the less the wild have made a dramatic turn around I

"For northern California hockey fans at the tank that's the shark tank where the sharks play they had the skills competition tonight. Edmonton star Connor mcdavid won the fastest skater competition beat out six other all stars as well as US women's hockey star kindle Coyne. She impressed everyone as she scooted around the ice. Among the other winners were Calgary's Johnny Godhra who was the best in the puck control contest of the Rangers goalie, Henrik Lundqvist Lundqvist won the best goalie competition Edmonton's Leandra Seidel won the premier passing event in L. A defenseman drew doughty. Meanwhile, was asked what impresses most about some of these younger players who are taking part in the all star competition. Some of these guys moves in the in the shootout, and they're all the young guys to the guys for one or two years. Some of the stuff they can do in those shootouts. They're amazing and obviously the puck candling drill. I thought was pretty cool to the how quick they can give up on their stick. I can't do that. Drew doughty of the LA kings, not a favorite among sharks fans, but he takes all the rich. Bidding and all the the jeers good naturedly. And of course, the face off tomorrow night's games at five o'clock our time for the NHL all-star warriors back on the court also tomorrow at the same time, five o'clock, west coast time, eight o'clock east coast time, they'll be looking for a tenth straight win. Detroit, Detroit Red Wings And Hockey discussed on 31 Thoughts: The Podcast

"If you hadn't won the Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings. How would you look back on your career? I don't know. But certainly winning it capped it all you know. I mean you move on. This is something bigger in our life than just playing hockey. And even what we wanna do, you know? But I know now that you never know what it takes to win until you when you think you do every hockey player every athlete for our and I want to win and. In hockey such a team sport. You wanna play a win you want to be successful? But you wanna win and everyone of us play better when we wanna win. But you really don't know what it takes until you win. And I think that's for me. Even after my after career, I take those lessons. I learned in Detroit every single what does it take them? It takes everyone like when I was in Detroit. And I got in Detroit, I can give you a quick story LA kings versus Detroit. So the year before when LA we had a good team. We beat Detroit actually and silly things. This is one nutrition started being kind of people were talking about. And we chipped in to buy shakes guys doing protein shakes post game. So we went to management's look at while buying shakes you'd think at team would pay kind of just ask. And he said, no, we don't have a budget was. Okay. So all the guys were every month different veteran would vita shakes for the team. So the next year I go to Detroit, and I get to Detroit the nets about two weeks before cap, and we're skating and Turner comes to me, and he's got a no, Pat, and he says, you know, what's your workout with chain? And that's why I like to do this post game. I like to do this. He goes Cerny machine. Unia go down. What you if you remember Detroit a gyms, right? You got everything. And this is great any asked me do drink any protein, shake, I go. Yeah. He goes. We'll what brands on like, I don't know. I figured timeless call ES. You know, what flavor flavor vanilla draw brace? He writes down egos. I'll have it tomorrow. You're gonna have like my own brand, you know, like, you know, my own flair. He goes, don't worry. We want to help you. You're here to help us win a Cup and he walks away. So then the next day. I come in the little girl that worked for their foundation. Every team we sign autographs time journey year. Four five times, she says the same thing. Just really nice had little no pants. You know, we do autograph session. We do these things. And I think they were doing stuff at the time where you'd sign your steaks, and whatever they give you credit against the store. She says all the guys like sign them. We had the big signing. We do three years. She goes one you like to do it. I dunno known. I've make Joe non game this. We would never do that. But she says some guys would rather do them before breakfast after practice some guys don't want to do it the day before the game. I'm like, why don't care as whenever it's easier for you. If it's as long as it's known game, damn, okay? And if you give me a couple of days, I'll do it. I go, thanks. She was no problem. She goes which want to help you. She says we want to make your life as possible, you know. So you can help us win a Cup. She walks away. I'm like this whole thing of this entire organization was so ingrained on what their goal was an everybody works. And it was like these nice kind gesture, but it kept reminding you that that's what we all in it for. And then when you win you realize that it's not just a team is not just the players. Not just it's everyone, you know. And it takes everyone to be successful. And that's why you know, I think Detroit is had such success for so long because everybody was on board. It was it was really interesting for me to see and to live that.
