"X five warming up even more for today, as high pressure builds in, so we're starting off your day in the fifties and sixties of mainly clear skies as we had through our afternoon. Those daytime highs about 5 to 10 degrees above average for this time of year inland, topping out in the upper eighties too low to mid nineties with that sunshine around the bay mid to upper seventies, too low eighties. And along the coast in the mid sixties for tomorrow, very similar with our temperatures with above average temps that ridge of high pressure continuing to build in for us staying above average Saturday. Looks like the peak of our heat will be on Sunday. The hot are extended forecast. We're going to start off next week still above average. All right, Traffic and weather together on the eights on all news, 1069 and AM 7 40 k. CBS. It's 5 20 The crews fire burning their girl Laura is now 70% contained. It's an 8.5 square mile fire that broke out Sunday afternoon near Cruise Road and Sunlit Oaks Court. Forcing many people in that area to evacuate. One structure was destroyed a second damaged But Cal fire said that firefighters are making significant progress. No one has been hurt. And a theory that has been gaining steam in recent years. The California is in a mega drought. KCBS is making goals. We reports that's not always the story, though about rain totals. Excuse me. Rain totals were not always telling the full story. This was the driest February on record, but, says Michael Anderson, state climatologist with the California Department of Water Resource is coming off a really what year? In 2019 where we had one of the larger snow packs in the record that goes back to 1950 we ended up getting rained this march as well. So he says, When you put all the data together, we're at about normal rainfall. But what's not normal is when and how that rainfall is coming. Trick is those larger storms make it larger on DH Mame. Tip the scales from beneficial the hazardous and not sure how many of them we will get in any given year. And that, Anderson says, is because of climate change. And.

"We're also seeing some insurances. Say that they will bill for Tele Consuls right now. Telemedicine consulates And so again. We live in this crazy. Things are changing by the minute. You asked so I don't have the dress codes that we have seen insurance companies. Come down and say that councils right now. Candy Bill You know there's a dental consultant or or two out there. That would have have much better handle on what codes those are and how we can. Bill Zayn the platform we can. We can as Ben if he knows of anything he can you know. Share that information in regards the insurance side of things. Okay SO SUPER. Super Simple for the patient to us. I'm GonNa Marco Polo Style. I only use Marco my wife. That APP like crazy does. Does your wife use that APP. You know she doesn't okay it it's for some reason it's popular with my wife and her friends and they're always on it and it's it's kind of like what you it's like walkie-talkie Video. I heard about it. I've heard people use it. We just haven't gotten into it. Yeah it's driving crazy to be honest with you but it's like those old phones. What were the phones back in the early thousands that you could just like beep beep and you could just walk you talk you. Oh yeah the Motorola phones. I told you remember those but okay. So it's super easy for the patient to get on. And and what do they do a video records it it uploads it then notifies the the dentist yesterday they take photos in their smile. They they fill out the basic information at that. You know we progress them in the form of the dentist. The dentist You know is able to go into our dashboard. You know you're able to. It's really kind of a crm in a lot of ways. Yeah you're you're you know. Increase in come in and you can click into them. You can get the information and then we progress you through some easy steps. One thing I like about our platform is it's not just a video. It lets you provide some treatment recommendations. It lets you share before and after photos if it's going to be cosmetic and it also lets you record video packages all that up and it creates an individualized landing page for that patient or perspective which is really powerful. I mean imagine sitting there and saying okay. I hope my dentist is GonNa Spendable Time. Virtually talking to me. And then you get a whole micro sites and back to you. It's like check this out. Here's everything put together. That feels really personal. And that's the kind of support especially right now. I think a lot of dentist want to be able to give to their communities. I think that's awesome And like you said I like the idea that you brought up like the the remote waiting rooms in their cars. If if if the patient's pain or anything and I think as a practice owner or or office manager or somebody in a team member of the practice educate you know using social media to educate that. Your offices is doing virtual consultations. I think this definitely timely Hopefully the we can move quickly through this. But it's a everything seems to be uncertain. I haven't felt like this way since the big recession years ago you overlapped with two thousand eight hundred. We've got a time having flashbacks from two thousand eight. I'm like like tst from two thousand eight. Because I was I was in the dental industry I was. I was managing my dad's dental back. Then I remember as so I I was you know it was it was interesting time but I'm hoping I'm hoping that this is a will recover from this quickly and as a industry especially the dental industry because this is such an awesome industry and in everyone will always need dental care even if we shut down like people like. That's the beautiful thing about this. Industry is that it's just really a stable So all right. Would you want to repeat your your your Your website again. So people can go in and get on this because I do want to publish this rather quickly. So people can take advantage of of your platform and And just started just take action now get started and St- and keep helping your patients through this tool. It's amazing we. I mean the last time we talked and again it was just a couple of episodes ago we talked about how awesome you know. Technology I mean all industries but specifically dentistry dentistry in advance. And everything. Like that and I think this is a perfect example of that from from last episode. It's amazing how the conversation is supposed to just from that point. Seven adjusted to your virtual console dot com. There's information a lot of stuff we've talked about down there so you can do a little research and then you can really just click get started and you're GonNa go through a little setup form. It is going to ask you for your credit card. Promises NOT GONNA get bill? That's you know we're trying to move as quickly as we can. So there's a code that you can enter when you get to that part and it's going to be light coated nineteen all upper case and your car will not be billed. We're going to give you two months. No no cost at all. There's no setup fee no anything we just want to get this out here. We want people to learn how virtual councils can help their practice specifically right now when the entire world is having to go virtual and so it's it's a great opportunity for Dennis to really try to catch up and be leaders in their communities and and really have the best tools for their patients. Here's more of like a data question because like you said we're nerds What are you seeing like location wise? We're seeing a lot of practices on your platform. Where you were there. One sign up from is a lot from from San Francisco. Because I know. That's been can lockdown. Are you seeing any patterns out there? It's interesting I think that you know from Lauren. My perspective we certainly since we're on the west coast. We're in California. I think that we feel we were probably probably been about three days or more ahead of the rest of the country. Get in. We've observed casino. I remember even two weeks ago. We were talking to our pediatrician. We just had an eight week old at home. We're like Hey. Should we be worried about this is like have you been to China? You're fine that's that was that was the joke and then I think we saw it kind of Hit. And so we've been about three days ahead so the west coast probably Again that's broad. Area is probably reacted a little faster but since we do happily work with. Dennis across the country at this point we're seeing Dennis on the east coast others everywhere. I was on the phone with Dr. Brian Packers from precision dental this morning. And he's in Nashville area in your. He's he's doing this. They actually had to switch only to emergencies this morning on the phone last night. With another dentist out of Louisiana I think that board has really mandated thirty days in Louisiana. And so they're going virtual. They're going remote so yet it's really all over the country right now so I think unfortunately not not one specific area. Yeah no that's good. I was just. I was just curious to see if there's like trends in certain areas or if it's just kind of everyone going towards your platform a tip that I give everybody Michael. I heard this from one of my customers. We've we've we've talked a lot Of Our with our clients boom and. I've asked him like you know everything's shutting down. I'm still seeing today. We track all the membership patients signing up on our platform right. So we're still seeing now. It's down from last week but we're still seeing patients signing up for membership programs and I think you know if you do virtual consultation and if they need to come in and do an emergency examiner emergency procedure One of one of the practices that have been really successful using boom cloud. It tells her patients that the emergency exams covered if they sign up the membership program today. If they're obviously uninsured. And that seems to be a good tim to just keep. Just keep the your own personal economy going and afloat. You like And you know me Michael. I'm a huge fan of recurring revenue. And I'm not shy about it. I even have a shirt that says recurring revenue on it. Because I'm asked send one the But I think you know attract you can still attract patients to your practice. Utilizing your tool. And then obviously if they're uninsured or or need extra help set him up for your membership program is a lot of these emergency exams. are or a lot of programs allow for emergency exams and makes patients feel like you care about them as well as as well as when when these get back to normal they can get other Procedures and treatment. They need from your. I know a lot of dentists are wishing they had that recurring revenue. Come on talk about this stuff when when when it sounds like everything's going great and then you run into a brick wall and you say boy. Seatbelts really really good idea. And you got article seatbelt for for a lot right now. All I'm I'm I'm I think it's really cool What some of our practices are have been able to do I know there's one of our practice. Ice spoke to they. Are they have forty grand a month coming in every month with membership fees automatically? And they're like Kay we. If we need to shut down we can do it and we still have cash to two separate man. That's awesome so. There's a lot of those on a platform that earn that key in that category but It just cooled to and I I think you feel the same way is cool to to build. Boom cloud do like us. Covert nineteenth coming in here. You know in years and it's GonNa help these practices right but it is cool to see like in these in these strange times that something that both of you on your virtual console end in boom cloud It helps you know these these practices and in their personal economies. I call personal economies because everyone's affected differently. Genevieve PAPI was just on the on the show earlier today. We talked about just 'cause she talks so many practices across the nation. As you're aware in she was talking about how there's just a vast amounts of situations out there that she's I think she's overwhelmed with you because you have no talk fees to talk to these practices about laying off people and and just difficult conversations that you've gotta gotTa have sometimes and Hopefully that I wish everyone the best out there during this time and I believe there's opportunity in every everything that anything that's negative if you read the book Thinking grow rich Michael. Have you read that book I? It's fantastic Polian Hill. I'm a huge Napoleon Hill Fan and there's a quote in there. I think I tried. I tried quoting. Genesis was on the phone or on the on the podcast earlier today and I pushed so I'm GonNa push again but with every with every negative situation there's always a positive seed So take advantage of that and focus on that and and get out there in what once everything is back normal get out there and hustle work hard and and use these tools like like a your tool mitral that we've created to your benefit because that's what we do is we. We tried to focus on the industry and how to make it better You know you're you're an entrepreneur. I've I've I mean how we know each other now couple years now. Yeah I think you don't none of us do this just to make a bunch of money. We'll we'll go real. We'll go straight up here. We had a guy come in and talk to ethnic here at our company tall employee's and a lot of my players were asking..

"And their enquiring difficult thing is she can't really just be like let's come in a consultation and check it out right. Because their limit delimiting the gathering counties right. So it's more it's easier to be like you know what let's jump on over to a console and check it out. Let's see what's going on. And then yeah absolutely so less than even think right. Now that we're we're trying to pitch this product and and you know in a moment when people. I think are really tightening their budgets. Get you to spend more money. We recognize the crisis. That's on hand. And so we're opening our product up to everyone. Any dentist wants to use it absolutely free. There's no setup fee. There's no monthly fee. We're going to do that for two months. We're very hopeful. That will all be packed to business in two months and so for the security time when everybody I think is trying to figure out how to go. Virtual we're going to give you any Dennis. That wants to use it at no cost. You can do that by going to your virtual console dot com and you need to put in a code as you're signing up. That code is light. Cova nineteen all upper case again that's fight coded nineteen and you'RE GONNA ask for your credit card bill. It's just part of our normal process that we've had the move so quickly here. You can't rebuild that we're not able to do that fast enough so just go through the whole process get it set up and I think now we've seen like sixty sign ups in the last day right now. People are really adopting this as a way for them to get in front of the problem that I think will increasingly presents offered us. That's awesome man. We appreciate it. Thank you so much so for two months. As long as there's things going on too much listen to cross our fingers knock on wood. I'm really hoping that's the period of time that we're looking at but of course we're all watching the news. We know that as this curve flattens. It's going to take a longer time. This product is going to serve people as long as we're in this acute moment of time and so So we're certainly certainly. Here's a resource to help. Yeah Hey I saw if you've ever wanted to try your virtual console or virtual concerts. Now's the time now is the time to do it. Especially now's the time to communicate with patients and let them know how you doing asked him if they haven't questioned concerns and like that like becoming the go-to dentists like brand authority in your community. This is a really really doing and it's for free like two months for free so I mean it's good and I know Michael so it's not like an sense of like Oh after that we're going to have their credit card information and then we can build them third. It's never like that. It's just like to genuinely helped out in this time right. Now we'll notify everybody as the periods expiring and I fully anticipate many people will will be back to business and in consoles in person which is absolutely the best you can do and for those people that are interested in using it in its true form which is a way to communicate with people that are looking for cosmetic consoles You know again a great technology that I think we will absolutely see more awareness about both from patients and from dentists as as we as we grow into the year and certainly music awesome. I appreciate it. Thank you so much Michael. So where can people go? Yes they can go to our website. Your virtual console dot com and you can just get going and there's there's a little button that'll kind of help you set up. The Senate process is easy. You enter some basic information about your practice in business profile and we automatically create a landing page from you. So that's a little micro website that you can use can lead to it from your website from social media or from an email and once you do that you just start getting notifications when people submit virtual consoles to you though in on your schedule on your time. Line and you can and originally. How much is it normally? It's there's a five hundred dollars setup and it's two ninety nine a month and obviously right now we're waiting all of that. There's no set of guys it's going to be and the comments below. That's going to be in the description as well and if you're watching us in the course it's also going to be scripture as well so awesome. I appreciate it. Thank you so much for your time to always a pleasure.

"Number one and number two. Oh my God but no I have seen it. We know Steve. Carell is a great example of number one on the call sheet and the tone is set because he's such a gracious decent human being and no one would dare step out of line and not that group would anyway. That was a pretty great ensemble on the office but I found myself being very protective of the crew. Like that's where I started using it. You know maybe they they're the messenger like the PA team and they'd get in trouble so I started then. I changed my language like tell them. Amy Asked so it was on me. How much longer till the scene is ready to the cameras light? You know whatever it was so I always framed by myself and try to give them lots of food and candy when in doubt at them. One of my favorite things I used to do my artwork junket kind of things and watch other journalists like leave a room that had just interviewed Michael Shannon. Because he's one of those actors that a lot of actors like especially being movie stars they go out of their way to ingratiate and like make someone feel comfortable. "Did you ever have to get rid of stressors in your life? Toxic relationships may be toxic things. Putting in your body that kind of changed her kind of freed your body up of even more of that or. Yeah. You don't. So when I was modeling. I was yeah. I was I grew up in Alabama. So that's kind of middle America fast food central. So I literally would eat fast food like people drink water news, nothing. All right. Every day. I would be arby's or beat Wendy's or order pizza at night. And I remember one time in high school we had this exchange student from France. And we were talking one day and has Dr said, you know, so how often do you eat hamburgers in France? What do they do the French hamburger quote, and she's thought about and she goes, oh, probably once a year and my jaw just dropped. Like, I couldn't even imagine. How anybody could get through a week without eating at least half a dozen hamburgers. So you were doing and she said, yeah. Every day every day all day. So that's the extent to which I was like basically living on a fast food diet. This does the standard American diet. Yeah. So fast forward I'm in. I'm in Miami now and trying to get into the fashion industry. And and I was had been tracking this one guy. His name is Michael Anderson, and he's really handsome guy kind of a mixed race. Lou is like just you know, he was getting so much work. Like every magazine, I spent hours and Barnes and noble, just looking through magazines. And I always see this guy guy. That's getting so much work. I want to get as much work as he gets. And so anyways, I'm walking down Washington boulevard or avenue, whatever's call him, I in south beach, and I see Michael Anderson standing on the freaking corner. And it was like, wow, I'd spotted Jesus Christ. Some like all nervous, and he's a standing there. I don't think he didn't have a shirt on. He was on an escape us chain smoking a cigarette and. And so I kind of nervously walked over to him. And I'm all dressed up like, you know, like how I thought model should should cells. Meanwhile, exactly the opposite a homeless person if you really want to do industry. True. And so I walk up to Michael, and excuse me, I big fan of your work and this and that and he's standing there looking at me and he's like picking drags of the cigarette. And and I tell him new to modeling, and you know, this and that and he finally says, you know, what you should give up me. And I said what he says she give me I said, okay, why he set your job lines would be more pronounced if you gave up meat your your skin is holding its retaining a lot of water because of the salt in me. And so it was like God telling me the top eating me. So knew I was going to stop eating meat. The only question was house. I going to do it. So even though it was purely for vanity purposes because I just wanted to be able to compete for those same jobs like nothing, I had no no idea about the health consequences or anything like that. I started. Cutting out meat, and then I noticed that I stopped getting headaches. I used to get headaches all the time so much so that I would take extra strength excedrin every.

And I was just gonna throw in a little bit info as far as the fly fishing side of the kind of the thing that I really spend my time with and of course, doc Lee, he's been a good friend of mine, and we worked together trying to catch some of these specs right now we've been using we have to kinda up the size on the book for the fly fishing. Typically, we'll fish maybe fourteen or even sixteen for the you know, the brim show cracker. But what will jump up to ten eighty even? So you can kind of keep a hook in the mouth. But they're definitely we're not seeing you know, sponde- up fish at all there. We're catching mostly in that deeper water that chin. Out there. Ten twelve feet with with all the rain. I imagine lakes backup. A now. We may have another two foot of water who knows? But. We're catching a few. They're not real planning for we add. But it's been a good solid fishery force. That'd be interesting to go. After my we were using sick and six bound test on.

"What about presidency think about it isn't this the thing that's most likely to contain novel information such as that carried by the tone of voice we will have a chance to explore these ideas in more detail next month because the episode is actually going to be about language in the brain another topic that is very important in goldberg's new book is his discussion of networks and though he seemed to downplay the importance of networks during our conversation this has been a consistent theme for many guests in recent years if these ideas are new to you i encourage you to go back and listen to the interviews of dr olaf spoerndli's my also enjoy episode one twenty four where i talk with dr michael anderson about his neural reuse hypothesis one of the key themes there was the idea that neurons can actually participate in multiple networks three of the networks that are currently receiving much interest are are the central executive network the default mode network and the salience network i want to expand briefly on my discussion with dr goldberg by noting that the central executive network is also called the cognitive control network because it's a very active during outward directed tasks this is in contrast to the default mode network which seems most active when the brain is at rest relative to the outside world in his book goldberg is floors the evidence that these networks appear to have complimentary roles when it comes to creativity we didn't talk as much about salience as i would have liked but one of the points he made in his book was that salience may be generated either internally or externally this is important when designing experiments because it can affect the results when you hear about salience dopamine is the neuro modulator that gets all the press but there are a couple.

"Well i think rules are important but i read just read a book i'm a big sports fan i read a book by a great football coach and he said i'm looking for players that are obedient but not tool be because if they're tool bdn they don't have the passion in themselves to bring to the field and i thought that's a good metaphor for repair teen is some of the stuff that about guidance are we really putting that scriptural principle on the kid in a wrong way um tim and i were talking and i said you know imagine i have a daughter he has coupled daughters imagined that they came down stairs in their mid teens are junior high with a top on that wasn't appropriate okay we would suggest that we say take the top backup and keep the receipt 'cause that's going back now i can't think of anything more to say to teach than that i don't have to go and talk about why the top is inappropriate because they know me and so i think all of this teaching is a little bit of a misnomer because we teach just as much by an example and by the rudder it by consequences and we've misperceived it as a talking thing our guests on focus on the family today are michael anderson and dr timothy johannesson and your host is jim daily i'm john fuller and you can find the book gist the essence of raising life ready kids.

"And every over the brain participates in multiple functions this'll sound familiar to anyone who's listen to the interview with dr michael anderson in episode one 24 when he presented his neural reuse hypothesis but of course when i did this interview back with dr utah that was two thousand twelve long before the conversation with dr anderson and the neuro res hypothesis so he said several times that challenging localization is a minority viewpoint but even in two thousand twelve i thought that that was changing in the show notes for this episode all include links to several other relevant episodes especially ones that have been released since this original interview well i continue to agree with auto utah that we may be overcommitting limited resources to brain imaging i don't think there are prospects for understanding how the brain generates the mind are as bleak as he supposed dr olaf's bornes has been on brain science several times exploring network theory as an alternative approach and of course just last month i gave my own overview about this effort to understand the mind on the other hand although i only featured one doctor utah's books he was an important voice reminding us that wear is not the only question that we should ask and it might not even be the best question i followed up on the dangers of over emphasizing fm our eyes a tool in episode one hundred and nine which i called avoiding neuro mania.
