"Hello everyone and welcome back to the love island up. We're here it has been a year. This has been taken over by all hot demos on islands. But the oggi's are back summaries here. I'm your host. Kirsten mcinnis joined as always by a wonderful. Brian scalise kelly. How're you doing. Hello i'm good. I'm overwhelmed. We had both the big brother and levion premier today been a big day as the thunderstorm. Outside is celebrating to along with us with dealing with that but otherwise i'm good. I ended up. You know got a new cast for us to dive into not ahead of schedule which we would have liked but otherwise can't complain. Yeah i just. I think we need to take a second to just be really upset with cbs. Who like they announced the gassed kind of last week. With like press with parade with mike. Bloom had an amazing articles of anyone. Hasn't seen that. Go check it out. But cbs didn't release anything on their website about the love. Island cast into literally today and they. We didn't even get a bio. We got name location. Profession not ideal. Let me dive into these people. Especially i know that people compare how big the big brother cast released was trending and because they didn't really do an official release and even the big brother cast release was even more limited than in the past. The love island was even more limited than that. So it leonard to not trending at all. I feel like they really hyped. It up a little bit but instead they seem to want us to be going in pretty cold on this cast outside of thankfully we have mike blum giving us the interviews that he did but otherwise. I don't think we would know anything. Like give me their star..

"Overlay get outta cola. Let's go you know. I just so much. Enjoy the keynotes humor keynotes. I like writing on. I've got Hopefully get some big. I had some big writing gigs. That were are on hold until the world opens up. The corporations open backup I think i think i'm doing at the moment. What i enjoy doing or was on the track of doing what i enjoy doing I don't ever see myself retiring. I think my goal would be to get a little more so that i'm not having to go after as much work it comes a little more work comes to me. I get a number of people calling me for work but I do a lot of booking way on my part time assistant who works with me and she does a lot of my book. And i'd like her to not have to do as much marketing just kind of glide. But maybe that's when. I'll start cutting back in semi retirement or something. I don't think i'll record as a comedian. You also mentioned sleeping in your cars for for the work. Is adversity that you have faced. That either helps or hinders your work as a comedian but you can also use that adversity to encourage others in the university. They face in their work. Well i'd say one starting out not so much now. Starting out women beat a woman was good and bad all right it was bad because it would never put two women on a show together. They call it women show. You'd never think twice three white guys show but the black guys would you put you would for two women but it. It was good. It was good in that. If you if you're a good woman comic you stand out more now. If you have a bad show you stand out more to and you're bombing for every woman out there If a woman has a bad set woman comic debt you know everyone's gonna walk away saying women are good twice. i've had groups..

"I do a lot of call to you. Know to something i said. Twenty minutes ago And so it just crafting. I mean it's just it. It's time you've just gotta sit down and write and as you're on stage if you come up with stuff off the cuff be able to write that out you know. Put that into iraq. A lot of trial and error on the get you the bill draft dino since you started as a babysitter newspaper delivery person as well as in the nursing home but you've also switched careers. Do you have any advice for people just getting into work no matter what field. It is and even getting into comedy. Yeah i would say any regardless of field You gotta do it a lot. I'm a cross pollinate. Look at other industries. You know i am. Don't just think of yourself as comedian your marketing person to your in different industries. And you've got to find do so the tasks you don't wanna do many comedians successful. Because they don't want it market they are. They don't wanna do the pr worker. They don't they. Don't like get on radio or podcasts. Or they want someone else to do stuff. Don't leave it to someone else to do. Especially when you're starting out. When he get they can famous. Maybe but not when started out in any industry do the things you don't wanna do make yourself do them because if you stay with your little i'm going to write jokes are there are so many very very talented. Comedians only wanna do is wright jokes. And if that's fine if that's stay at that level and you know right those jokes and get on the stage do them the same venues. You don't wanna move. That's your prerogative pitcher. Now if you wanna move. You're gonna have to broaden yourself a little bit. Is there a mistake that you made in your comedy career that that that well especially i think if you if you're thinking about what you would have said staying on the clean side of comedy kinda keeps you a lot safer than i've seen someone last year who like a youtube Comedian said something years ago. That came back to bite her and then she cancelled her channel which had twenty five forty five million people on. There's so the idea of so saying the safely or the clean lane would keep you but even there there's some issues you could say something just off hand where could rub but is there a mistake that you made it helps you carry through and.

Not not to jerry springer himself to Guest people Isn't that show reality. Say they needed jokes to be brought up. So i think so. I don't know. I don't know what didn't watch it not. I wouldn't even watched the episode. The person i sold the joke store. I just said i'm not watching the episode. All right. i'm not. I'm just you send me a check on so that was an inch. That was kind of a sign that must be even if he didn't watch it or listen to that particular thing being on the late night show. It must feel pretty good to have written a joke. Oh it's fun. Yeah it's fun it's fun to. I wrote a lot of radio stations around. The country sold allow material. I'll be driving around the country and here the dj sale. "Comedians who cuss or dirty as long as it's funny and there's a punchline for me i wanted my family and friends to be able to come out and not be embarrassed either and i don't wanna talk about. I just don't want to talk about certain things on stage and i. I don't wanna make anyone uncomfortable. Also was very very fortunate Brian at the beginning of my career working in the marketing world. I first of all my marketing materials were way better than my act at the beginning. But also i was able to see the corporate market I remember having in putting together a big business convention for major corporations and we hired entertainment had the capitol steps out of who the singing. A comedy troupe. Out of off of capitol hill. Very funny and i remember handing them a check for the time. This is thirty years ago. It was like ten thousand bucks. And i remember thinking. Wow they're making a lot more than i make in comedy clubs and their clean and you know and as a corporate as a whole market here of conventions in i would tell say that the comedians. They like christmas parties. Must know. I think there's more here so i kind of went that new. That a new of that or knew there was something else out there. Besides comedy clubs. I love the clubs. They're freeing and you can do what you want and say what you want but a kind of like the convention market as well. Do you have the temptation to kind of push. The line though is there. Is there that sort of thing you can see where this joke can go. You can see you know if the and the difference in the convention market. Is you know the person who's drunk and being a jerk to you might be the ceo. Who's pain right near check. So you can't go after you just can't the comedy club you can't and i i have i mean i've had some dicey jokes when i started out. Because he did his bar gigs something to have to. Just go into a little bit. There was no facebook. Or iphones back. Then nobody could you know. Fill me and put it on twitter and ruin my career but i was never even a even. The dice divided cuss word. Or kinda get me at someone. It wasn't it wasn't i felt like it sometimes on really you know my act was never also one that people feel like they want scream stuff and yeah and be mean and try to get into it with comedian. It was never one of those kind act. So i never really had a.

Put comedy question right like how long was okay. Three to five minutes. I remember Maybe three minutes finish up. I was so freaked out by the lights. Because i can't say anything. It looks like can see anything. I'm so that was so foreign to me but people are laughing. It was great that i've walked out of club and this the professional comedian. That was there that night. He was emceeing over michael's he followed me out and said will you please do this again please. You really good please. Do this and i waited seven years. I missed the whole eighty boom. That said Comedy coming thing. And i did great. The structures wife and his girlfriend were the Judges and they. They loved it and they came up to me. And they're just like you gotta try this guy and so then. I still didn't do it. Yeah i was. I'm trying to think if i did anything to make. No an and i you know. Did the newspaper route. When i was sixteen was when we were allowed to work. I did the nursing home slash retirement home. It was new concept back that to put people into these Sort of Not they were nursing home type thing. They were sort of a What we now you would go in if you like. Sixty five or seventy. You don't really help but you wanna have a community. Yeah and had they had a memory care function to it but it was sort of People could move in. If they were in their apartments they could live on their l. sixteen. I was sixteen. Yeah as you got into college or sorry as you got into high school. Did you start thinking about college. Did you think about a career. How old were you when you start thinking about what possibly could have been your future. Well gosh good question. I think since i was a kid. Probably tanner nine or ten. I wanted to be thought about being a comedian. I never told a soul. I never told a soul. I just thought you gotta work. My dad didn't seem to like his job very much. So i thought we gotta to do something fun. I was never the class clown. Nobody ever only one person came in and said you know. They had the superlative senior year of high school Like best dressed and most athletic. And i'm better than you. My friend judy came up in. Uh so you know. Sometimes you say funny things. So i'll put you down as funniest not so. I got two votes being judy. But at my class reunion couple years ago. Judy is the only one that came up to me and said oh you're comedian. That's perfect everybody else's greeley. You weren't funny in high school. You used to live at home with your parents. But so i want. I thought it'd be fun. I thought you gotta work okay. "I learned a long time ago when i first started out. Don't run it by friends because if it doesn't get a laugh if you just try to throw it into a conversation and then it just sort of like maybe it wasn't funny when you never want your friends to go to tell you what's funny you don't want to. Hey what do you think this. Because a lot of times if you're not onstage. You're not in a moment. You're not you're not performing it. It doesn't come out funny anyway. So you know i just shy away from doing any of that stuff and i have to say friends really. Don't want i want you to be on all the time. That's no fun for anyone. We've all been around. There's people that are always have to. John always up to pop off jokes. And it's i friends are like wow. This is really a job for you. Don't you aren't always on if you met me on the street you wouldn't an airplane people ask what you do you know. They're shocked because you're not sitting down talking thrown out lines and all that it's annoying here. I think it's one of the hardest professions to be in to sit to have someone sit in front of you. That's a comedian and say be funny. Make me laugh young. Yeah yeah we get that when you do over the years i've done a hundred radio state interviews and you know you have once you get one that doesn't know how to really interview and they'll be like so tells joke it's like no that's not how it works. She got you. Gotta you know. I'll give you some setups. You know an advance. I'll tell you asked me about kids. After work and then i can had throat and casually in conversation. Not tell me a joke. I don't plan on being a humored here i'd i want to get into the nitty gritty of the work lady. So when the work lady become the work lady as as a teen or preteen..

"If you're just joining us, we're talking about white supremacy. Even John Roberts from Fox F A U X News went to town and said, Can you denounce that? The president is not a riveted denounces white supremacy. I mean, my God, Kaylee Kenney went over and over. It's not good enough. Because if they continue this morning monarch brain programming because that's what it is this repetition there hoping and counting on a lot of people that don't pay attention, But they just hear sound bites that they hear this. They catches their home from work there eating dinner. They're catching a little news time. And they hear this. And like, Oh, my God, The president really must be a racist. The president really did say, stand back and stand by towards these proud boys. He must really be a resist and then the president had to clarify Now people giving him crap that it took him a whole day. Hey, ah, Whole day to clarify that what he meant was to stand down and let law enforcement do its work because the president said, Hey, look, I don't even know who the proud boys are gonna have to give me a definition of who these proud boys are. But he said, whoever they are, they have to stand down and let lawn full enforcement do its work. That wasn't good enough for anybody. Not good enough. No, Mr President. That's not good enough. You have to know the proud boys because you're a white supremacist and the proud boys or white supremist, even though they're not Even though they're not. They may be extremists, but they're certainly not white supremacists. It's funny, because, as you know, I watch Newsmax TV a lot. That's my new place to go because look, I'm a frequent guest on used Max. It's not only because of that it's because it truly conservative. And they're gonna give you conservative Truth and fought. So is watching Purcell Cedo. And Krystal Cedo had the founder today off the proud boys, Gavin McInnis and Gavin McInnis went on to say that he is tired of being labeled a racist. He is tired of being called a Nazi, that he's now going to sue the Biden campaign. And he's going to sue for this. This this accusation that he is a Nazi and a racist. He went on to say, and I want you to hear because I want to answer this question. He went on to say that being called a Nazi Is just a cz bad as someone in the black community being called the n word, he says. That's the new end word for whites that are blamed to be Nazis. He said Nazis killed millions of Jews and to be called a Nazi. You're putting us in this position. And it's offensive and it's derogatory and therefore it should be classified every bit as derogatory and offensive as the N word is For the black community. Do you agree with that friends? I'm gonna open up the phone lines specifically what? I want to know your feedback. Do you agree with that? Does Gavin McInnis make a point here? That being called a Nazi who, well, Nazis killed millions of Jews. And it's every bit as offensive and derogatory as the N word to the black community. 7022575396 Is how you weigh in on the conversation. I don't got a lot off folks in the audience that are black, conservative and black liberal. So let's take the conservative and liberal stigma off of ourselves for just a moment. And ask yourself this very question. Does. Gavin McInnis have a point? Is he accurate and what he's saying. I mean, I think he brings up a good point. Because who wants to continue to be called a racist? When you're not a racist who wants to be called a Nazi? I mean, Nazis put Jews and ovens, for God's sakes. Gavin McInnis says it's time to fight back. I'm suing. I'm not going to allow this if and you know. Look, I'm not a huge fan of Gavin McInnis. I'm not a huge fan of Gavin McInnis. But when you try to say that the proud boys the organization that he found who's not even leading Okay. A black Cuban is the leader of that organization. To say that they're white supremist is a far reach because they're not They may be extremists. They maybe militants. There's nothing illegal about that. Yet. Antipas an idea. But yet black lives matter. They're peaceful protesters even though the founders are Marxists, Do you really know what a Marxist is? Do you? Have you really sat back to understand exactly? Who these people are what their ideologies are. I'm not seen right wing groups, even right wing extremist groups burning down buildings. Are you? Me? This is a legitimate question. This has to be discussed. Are you seen any of these? So are you seeing proud boy groups? Burned down businesses. Are you seeing them? Lieut. Right?.

"And he was kind of a defense of minded coach. And. So him, and I had this needy and. Basically came to cream that. He said once the puck is in our zone. He says you have to play my system he said as you have the puck over the blue line. He says you could do whatever you want and I didn't spend more than five minutes in my own zone. The rest of the that season. And I went on a terrible tears and the guys seventy four points and forty games. And then I got called up to Calgary. On January first nineteen eighty nine. And then six months later was scaring carrying Stanley Cup around the Montreal forum. It's so incredible. And and seeing the roster of guys, and I'm also wondering, you know, you were twenty years old at the time. Gary Roberts is twenty two Gary suitors twenty four I mean, there's a lot of guys your age you hanging out with all those young guys. Or was it a team where everyone just pretty much hung out together on the road. Yeah. It was a pretty cool Steadman and. Still it's you know, and we had incredible leadership. You know, we had guys like land. Lanny and Jim Flint ski Tim hundred Dougie Gilmore L McInnis. Joe noonday, Joey Mullen. Jeez. It was incredible Pete. And and you know, as you know, close teams usually that are talented out pretty chance of Lee's Allan Cup of your like we mentioned the rookie on the eighty nine Cup. When inflames team by way, I realized brushing up they were the only team to ever when the Cup on Montreal's home ice. I I was unaware of that. But you had five members of a hockey game on that squad possibly six if if they elect you someday, they'll alma Guinness. Joey Mellon, Dougie Gilmore Joe new indict, and like you said Lanny McDonald, which of those guys like you the most about leadership in what specifically did you learn about leadership on that comprom- from those guys? Well, I don't think I could have been mentored by better group of guys. But I think. You know from top to bottom, you know, we had incredible leadership from everybody and. You know, I. To single out one specific guy would be. Probably not right. You know, we had guys like wreck wom Walmsley calling Patterson. You don't make fern, and you know, it so many incredible quality human beings on that team. I think that's the reason why we had the suggests that we did all we were counted team. But we have a bunch of really humble humble hard-working. You know, talented guys. So Lanny was. Guy that drove the Boston. And he lead, by example, and. And. You know, it was just I couldn't have been a part of a better situation on the one that I you know, I write two on on January. First thing. That was Gary Roberts off the off ice as far as the training and stuff back then. No, you smoking drinking at that time like rest about all school guys were we were all smoking drinking and oven fund was anyone smoking between periods. We used to in the miners. We had a smoking room in the minors. But we got the NHL they were a little bit didn't like that stuff. So so we chewed instead. So right, not quite protein shake era. But just like, hey, guys can't hacking darts in the locker room anymore. We'll give you a six pack after the game. But let let's draw the line there. Well in the old much forum their cigarettes, ashtrays, in the soul that were built into the stalls hockey was that's hockey was awesome. That's crazy Astra in the locker room. Now as young guy. You know, you're a Cup run your first season. Did you think, you know, you're going to have that chance every season one of the guys pull you aside, the eight kid, you might never get this fire again, so make the most of it? Oh, you we've probably should have one other one in Calgary. Not don't maybe two more. But you know, that's why that's why they play eighty two games. And now the playoffs artist trophy to win. And we had some really great teams Jari. But unfortunately that running eighty nine we couldn't get out of the first round of the out of the playoffs. So, you know, let's talk more about the happy times. What about that celebration?.
