"Plant citrus if you want to put citrus in the ground which user are wasted to sell several varieties of citrus can handle our weather with proper planning and placement it's possible to grow citrus in the ground in central Texas at least some varieties citrus would be one of the exceptions to the rule citrus you would plant in the early spring when that last chance of frost is gone the idea of being you want their tree to establish its best route system during the summer so that it will be strong enough to handle a possible freeze in the winter kind of backwards to what we were thinking we want citrus to be strong and established before it gets cold so that it can survive cold weather you may still have to cover you may still have to protect it but it is the exception to the other trees the other trees get him in the ground early in the fall L. A. as your was early as you can do it before it gets hot but citrus can go in the ground is early is it possible in the spring time after the last frost so that it may spend about six months getting to establish its roots and strengthen itself up to handle what could be a freezing situation in the fall so like I said nature always has exceptions it's really nice to go well the general rule is but there's always that one plant that you have to do things a little different for regular trees if you cannot assume you can take care of it during the hottest time of the year try to plant it early in the fall if you can provide a care planted anytime of the year if you're planting citrus it's it's best advantage to put it in early in the spring after the last frost so it will be prepared for the cold of winter so hope that helps hope it's still encourages you to go out and plant trees because we need more trees in hope that kind of clears that up remember he it's not written in stone it's not against the law to plant tree anytime of the year in central Texas folks this is gardening naturally you give me a call five one two eight three six zero five ninety were and take a quick break and be right back now is the chance to use reliable energy to grow your money with the dominion energy reliability investments.

"W. L. A. I. an I heart radio sounds like a pretty good choice to me okay back on the twelve hundred W. good morning I'm bill road and good morning I'm David Rodriguez aligner clock taking your calls answered your questions best we can and I say we David does and I just keep David in in line here the full version of lines let's go to line two and talked to Mike Mike good morning well Mike yeah good morning America I'm gonna leave that I'm at war with its a vertical or very green fast grower and looks like it has seeds on the top of it and I'd love to have a spray just to where I am this is Todd C. like velcro don't feel at night as well as pull some up when they pull up pretty easily visit here related is is row woody at the base or is a very and I'm easy to break and rip up rip out no it it it it comes out pretty easy one out when I pull it okay and where do you have a where do you have this in your turf grass or worry L. and in my flower beds okay so physically physically you can just get in there with a a garden rake can just grab it at the edges the civic just jerks out and then put some pre emergent herbicide out there are multiple well that's probably what out what I'll try next I thought I just researchers to spray well if you if you want to spray for any type of grassy a broad leaf weed that's actively growing then you would use a spot application of a nonselective herbicide of course active ingredients go life is state and whatever you spray that's green and actively growing it will kill so you have to you have to spray when it's nice and warm and course take caution with the wind so do it early in the morning so you might get a big piece of cardboard if you have little plants nearby and we spray kind of put the cardboard next the plant so you don't accidentally spread or get any wind drift on it and then spray as I like to concentrate that I really don't like is ready to spray things is I think there are not strong enough and I like to get a concentrate that you mix it up to the highest rate and then David yeah could you spell herbicide please let's round up this guy facade weeding grass let's see I I hate using the brand name because they have so many different formulations so the key is a weed and grass killer is what you want he is right sometimes you might say a particular brand name and and it's lit and says brush killer on it intensifies we gotta make sure we really fought read what we're using so when I make a boo boo in a got you got you okay David thank you so much process a combine version to call two one oh seven three seven twelve hundred one eight hundred three eight three nine six two four because the numbers lines are open right now so give us a call talking earlier about tomato trials you said you're starting to mate trials this week for this past week now tell me what do you mean show that we know what you mean by tomato trials went well okay so well what we do is particularly Florida without a doubt in the Carolinas states and then California maybe a little bit about Oklahoma and Michigan we do studies with the seed companies and I look for varieties that have been out there a commercially among most of all the varieties we put out our current our commercial varieties so what better of a steward for gardening and farming is American farmers so we get all these varieties well we look at the characteristics that would fit best for central South Texas them up hopefully the state of Texas we look what's available maybe some history of how long it's been grown N. a years years back but we still get a lot a lot a lot of new varieties specifically from the seed companies direct from them but those are harder and harder to get nowadays then we do some research study accumulate the seeds but then we have grown after transplant grower and then we do a random mock randomized block of these varieties a hundred each and then we evaluate them collect the data of overall growth leaf mass quantity quality yields and then hopefully we'll get some other trial sites throughout the state and ideally accumulate all the statistical analysis and I E. this is where we come up like with the rodeo tomato after we get all the the statistics but together and then go from there and then if if it goes above the quality of the tomato of celebrity or tycoon then I might even have the potential being a Texas superstar plant okay so now I know yeah it's a it's a so we're not just a chewing tobacco and willing would you know it's been very tough right now to get on the field but Larry stone Dr Stein I had the opportunity with the cooperative a.

"In your bank for moving costs for upkeep to your house for emergency funds if you don't have it the fact that they're really high third batch about sixteen thousand dollars a year so that quite a bit that payment and you know we're going from a house that was captivated the fourth so we don't have taxes in our payment L. when you add up at roughly yeah now I don't know what sixteen characterized by twelve but it a lot on top of that payment it does put us at a point of where almost thirteen hundred dollars more on top of that you get kind of close to that thirty five hundred and we have N. H. L. A. and that the area as well so that's kind of where I was thinking I should put more down than twenty percent to get me closer to that email but that's I guess that's where I just wanted to make sure that with the economy the far coronavirus doing fell allow and the stock market making sure I didn't get the exact thing that money and status are putting it down on a house but it it does sound like you're an I. agreement that I should be in our monthly payment I feel comfortable with more than investing the money it's not exactly what I'm saying what I'm saying is don't buy a more expensive house because your realtor is pushing it and so that that's what I'm saying I'm not saying don't you know or put more money down on the house and then have less to invest because in fact I think if your payment is a couple hundred dollars a month more than the thirty five hundred that you're comfortable with keep in mind that you only put down a hundred and thirty you've got seventy thousand dollars in the bank for you to be able to then use to help to make those additional payments per month sure so my thinking on this is Indian you mentioned you know with the stock market is volatile that has recently and I get it your fear is if I take that seventy thousand and I don't put it into the home what will happen to it could I potentially lose it if I invested on the stock market.

"In Philly yeah like he said he is L. A. and that's the theme I heard from so many people out here just playing paying respects and telling their theirs their favorite Kobe Bryant story slough Michael Jordan just helping Venessa off the stage after she completed the eulogy of Kobe and and her little girl and it's just too much to take I swear to god what is this the I can't relate with it it feels wrong looking at Vanessa and and and and listening to her words almost like invasive yes a corpsman I don't I mean we you've been here for a few years now have you ever seen anything like this I mean just in terms of the amount of of I don't know energy I guess a in the in the aftermath of someone's life like this I mean there are thousands of people that were there early early this morning like you were saying to get into this at home yeah you know I I wasn't here as far back as maybe Michael Jackson's services but I was here for Nipsey hustles services sometime ago it was similar obviously dear these are two different stars that have two different impacts on what LA is but it was similar down here and as far as the emotion and the passion and power that people felt towards Nipsey Hussle and I remember how the streets were lined off but the jumbo tron had played the services out here which attracted so many more people and I think the idea here there were some reports that maybe people try to rush the line and so forth but again people have mentioned maybe three hundred fifty thousand people have have visited the memorial that's the makeshift memorial that said UP here outside of staples and there've been no incidences and so far today it seems the same way everything was very orderly and ended in traffic is going on there's no backup of traffic in so it seems everything is going so far to be great I think it's also the fact that he came on the scene at eighteen years old he's been with loss and he was with Los Angeles the entire time he kind of watched him grow up you've watched him go through his troubles you watch to make bad decisions you watched him come out on the other end of that and and it be so devoted towards helping women in sports and all of it and it just still doesn't feel I mean ice I remember the way it felt Sunday morning when I saw that was I remember where I was I was sitting on the deck and I'm looking at Instagram and I see that TMZ post Kobe Bryant killed what you know it's like you're in I think you still to a degree can't process this this the amount of loss that went down in that helicopter when you think about all of the families all of the people the entire city that was hit by this so hard yeah and also the game of basketball I mean you like you guys had mentioned Michael Jordan escorting her and his wife a cubs wife off the stage I mean here is that you know there's several arguments who's the greatest player but to hear to have Michael Jordan there and then I've heard other things for Magic Johnson is it not it is saying that he and Kobe was the greatest to ever wear a Laker Jersey think about what that means when there are so many people that think magic's the greatest Jordan is the greatest I mean so many stars in basketball and what this meant to basketball it's just unbelievable corvel check in a couple hours okay thanks guys Corbin Carson there outside staples center of Diana Taurasi long time WNBA player I think she's the all time leading scorer for the W. NBA she's up at the podium right now I guess she had come up with her own nickname she was the white mamba that said that as a kid growing up she would watch every moment of every Lakers game and in a commercial break she would run outside to the front yard and in the drive way try to imitate what she saw Kobe doing on the court and then run back in a couple minutes later to catch the rest of the game if you've seen footage of G. ana playing it is nuts how she was able to emulate her father's style and specific moves let's.

"California corona virus outbreak how would the L. A. and California government officials react to keep us all safe but stay politically correct scary of true but dark secret place tonight at eight on KFI am six forty more stimulating talk you six forty will live everywhere on the I heart radio app this is the most Kelly show if you mention climate change is likely evoke strong emotions either in the support or its denial against the backdrop of the president again denying the urgency of climate change at the Davos World Economic Forum the debate is again front and center as the climate change and what if anything the United States will be doing about it Martin o'malley served as governor of Maryland from two thousand seven to twenty fifteen and is a former presidential candidate his latest book is smarter government how to govern for results in the information age and he joins me on the line right now governor o'malley thank you for coming on the mall Kelly show how are you this evening I'm great thanks very very much for having me on that thanks for your focus on this issue the issue well I have to wonder you've been a public servant for just about all of your adult life serving on the Baltimore city council mayor of Baltimore and of course governor of Maryland as I indicated from an over arching since what would you say are the strengths of government at its best and what are some of its limitations yeah I wrote this book smarter government because quite honestly I I can't thank you do as well the democracies in crisis and the crisis is democracy itself whether we are so self governing people can still deliver the goods whether those goods are combating climate change you're making our streets safer places are giving our kids a better education what I've seen happening though is the dawn of the new way of governing using data using new technology especially location technology to get inside the turning radius of seemingly huge problems and actually cheaper so that many would have thought was impossible before so what I see happening is a whole new generation of leaders coming up and it can curry Jiang but because it happened at the local level against the dark national backdrop get a lot of the tension but I have a lot of folks and a lot of compliments surely that this new way of governing with openness transparency collaboration based on shared understanding is actually there the future of our country and the salvation of this world especially on climate change I really want to drill down on this issue you mentioned leaders leadership and government and they're not all one and the same I would say government sometimes must lead the people and other times must respond to the desires in other words on the issue of climate change is there a consensus among the populace as to the urgency of climate change or is this something that the federal government and even states must lead on regardless of whether there is consensus presently I think the answer's boat Gallup polling does the same questions every year so you can track over time the trend and the trend on climate change and this only happened after Donald Trump selection the very first time every age cohort of Americans now believe that climate changes caused by human activity that's a big ship from ten years ago and even those Americans that are over sixty five we believe that that is the cakes if you look at Americans twenty five and under it is an overwhelming majority who believe that we are the ones who called why is that important because once week knowledge that we're the ones that cause it then we can accept the we're the ones who can fix it what we have yet to accomplish is to pull together the more like giving consent search for how we move our country to a hundred percent renewable energy but look at the progress that's been made on that score you know four years ago when I ran for president I was the only one of the three of us that was advocating a move to a hundred percent renewable energy grid United States of America by twenty thirty ended with a certain car twenty should be but now this year everyone of the candidates and some of them are trying up but by moving ahead the twenty forty twenty thirty so one thing in modern times anyway one thing sure in the Democratic Party platform they tend not to come out until they become reality this move to a hundred percent renewable energy is coming if we can get there first as a nation and we can get there sooner or more planetary damage is done that would be a cause worthy of the truly great people it's easy for us I suppose when you hear Donald Trump still denying climate Garching us on the international stage is it's easy to despair but either courage instead to look at what cities and states are doing a wide declared a hundred percent renewable energy goal by twenty thirty five and they intend to get there California also pointing the way forward every state has been offering their renewable portfolio standards and while the politics at the national level listen in our paper my god the technology and the cost curbs on solar and wind and battery technology is moving in the right direction in a positive direction much faster than anybody with a drink it's actually cost less to build new solar wind today than it does to build new coal or more or gaps so there's a lot to be hopeful about even as we go through this child time when our national governments not at all helpful if you're just tuning in on the line right now with me is the former governor of Maryland and former presidential candidate Martin o'malley as we discuss his new book smarter government how to govern for results in the information age this is the most Kelly show KFI am six forty we're live everywhere on the I "Bizarre CD company, wilderness culture, clash the list goes on what the giddy realized long before L A's. Other large theaters was there is value in supporting L A. Companies and giving them space to create the results have been powerful both at the Getty. And in the productions that these works have spawned a typical trajectory is a workshop at the Getty and then a full production run elsewhere. So this initial support leads to nominally a rich body of classical adaptations, but also worked that helps build each of these companies. I only wish there were a handful of other L A institutions that had both the resources and disciplined to support L A theater. This consistently beginning villas latest production goes up this coming weekend with a site specific show from four larks called a basis for larks. Like the villa is another hidden L A treasure there to full scale L A productions Orpheus and the temptation of Saint Anthony both made my best of year lists for their immersive and layered were creating what they call junkyard operas. There are dense marriage of theatre opera dance and sites. Typic- installation. What stunning about their work is that it exhibits both a rigorous technique and a sort of wonderful rough inventive edge the kind of magic that happens. When a classical musician covers a pop song, though, their musical bent is more new folk it's the kind of work that brings together not only the artists, but the audiences who typically inhabit not just the theaters and concert halls. But also, art galleries and music venues, this latest work cata basis is inspired by the gettys exhibit underworld imagining the afterlife and is a processional peace through the gettys grounds in architecture. The piece was originally slated for the fall, but the Wolsey fire changed those plans. So it's been rescheduled to this weekend. If you can't catch the show, make sure the Getty Villa's theater program is on your radar. It's a great place to see some of L A's best companies if you can't catch.
