"AP sports I'm Josh rowntree. We start on the NBA where Memphis took a game over Dallas with multiple stars sidelined. Correspondent Robert Stevens has more. Desmond baines scored 23 points as the Memphis Grizzlies completed a two game sweep of the Dallas Mavericks, one O four 88. Naz played without Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving both injured while the grizzlies were again without John morant. Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins says his team up this defensive intensity in the second half. Come out of halftime with just a renewed energy and mentality. Hey, we got to raise our level both sides of the floor. We made a couple adjustments defensively that paid off for us, which got us going with our groove on offense. And obviously that third quarter kind of changed the game. David roddy and Dylan Brooks had 19 apiece from Memphis while Jaden hardy led the Mavs with 28. Josh green at 23. Bob Stevens Dallas. In Houston, the rockets knocked off the Celtics one 11 one O 9. And jabari Smith scored 24 to lead the young rockets, one of the best teams in the league, where it was in the finals last year, you know, just competing with him. You know, going down to the wire like that with a great team like that. It's just real promise in this room. It's really good for us. The bucks beat the kings one 33, one 24. Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 46 in the win. The warriors took down the sun's one 23 one 12 behind 38 points from Klay Thompson, including 33 in the first half. On the ice, buffalo scored three third period goals rallying to beat Toronto four three. Alex tuck at the 30 goal mark with a pair in the final frame. We kind of got back to just trying to work and make simple plays and you know I just roll over one line after another after another and it makes a huge difference out there and big news in the opening day of NFL free agency. The Raiders reportedly filled their QB void by agreeing to terms with former 49er. Jimmy Garoppolo on a three year deal worth, 67 and a half $1 million. The bears are set to give linebacker tremaine Edmonds a four year $72 million contract and the Steelers are bringing on three time all pro corner Patrick Peterson for a two year deal. "Bestselling author of the book. Blood in the garden. Chris Heron, Chris, how's it going, buddy? I'm great, Roman. How are you? And not complain, just got back from a work trip that I'll talk about of his podcast, certainly at some point because I have a lot to say about it. So keep an eye out for that. Chris, not always, are we gifted blessed? With such an easy topic to discuss. Every now and then we got to come up with something, figure out a way in. How are we going to talk about the league this week? Not today because it started with Kyrie Irving requesting a trade, which was already pretty hilarious. And the nets obliging him did a full 48 hours even pass before they decided on the trade. Kyrie Irving headed to the Dallas Mavericks along with Marquis Morris poor Marquis Morris, he has forgotten to be mentioned almost every single time people discuss this trade. Luca and Marquis Morris headed to Dallas in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney Smith, two second round picks, and a 2029 unprotected first round picks Chris. Let's dive into it. Your reaction to the straight? A little bit surprised, like you said that it happened. Before the trade deadline, not before, but so quickly, I guess, how quickly it came together. There was obviously a market for Kyrie. Not terribly surprised it's Dallas. It was a team that even over the summer when this stuff came up, made sense. For him to land with. Largely through their own fault, you know, through the fault of the Mavericks for not resigning jaylen Brunson. My first thought is not terribly sure that this moves the needle from the standpoint of respect to Jason Kidd if you're saying that this gives them championship aspirations. I'm not sure it does that. There's a defensive price that they pay here for this move. You know, they were already looking to deal Dorian Finney Smith, so maybe they had already come to terms with that. But I'm just not sure in watching this team. They needed a second guy. Clearly. They also need defense that was closer to what last year was than what they've shown this year. And I don't think this gets them closer from that standpoint. So if the option is just score more, that's great, but at some point I'm kind of convinced they're going to need to play more defense than what Kyrie provides. So from their standpoint, that's how I feel. Obviously you jump at the chance to add someone who can do the things Kyrie does offensively. We haven't even had a conversation yet in terms of the other things that you may be considered. Do you want someone like that around your team? Do you want someone like that? Dictating things. In terms of do you want someone to potentially quits on your team, which is a question that you have to ask with him. So there's all of that to consider too, which, okay, I have Dallas wants to take that gamble that's fine. I'm just not sure on the basketball fit, which is a weird thing to say considering that you jump at the chance to get someone that takes the ball out of Lucas hands a little bit. But this takes the ball out of his hands a lot. I would think it does. So we'll see, but we'll have to see on that front. If you are the nets, I think you probably would have wanted a little bit more. I thought just looking at it, the clippers and what they might have been offering might have been a better deal for them. If they wanted to go for a title right now, Terrence and man, you know, some of the, some of the things they could have gotten back from the clippers, I feel like we're maybe more appealing here than Luke canard would have been someone that they could use to shoot the ball even more than they do with spacing, but it was a trade that had to get done. If you're Brooklyn, I guess you could have held on them, but you want to get something back for the guy. And they did accomplish that. They can realistically look you in the face and say they're still trying to contend with this. So I understand that Spencer Dinwiddie is someone that's been in the organization before, but they were also trying to add on to the trade to get a third team involved. Did I think that speaks volumes about the fact that they probably wanted a little bit more here? Yeah, so I graded this deal. I was, as I mentioned, I was on the road, and I was waiting to interview the main person. I was speaking to for my story. And this broke, and I was like, oh my God. What am I going to do? And I started writing something up on my phone just praying that this person would take longer than they said they would in the training room so that I could finish writing something up real quick. I gave them mabs a C in my grade in the moment. And the more I sit with it, the more I wish I had the courage of my convictions to give them a D, it feels a little bit mean to assume Kyrie is gonna ruin this at the same time his history would tell you he's unequivocally going to ruin this is not left a team. And anything less than an acrimonious manner, whether it was Cleveland, remember he had the thing where he was maybe threatening to get surgery if they didn't trade him and miss time and obviously we saw it. I forgot about it. Austin, yeah. Now we have this situation, you know, I don't think the Mavs are gonna go any further than they did last year. I thought they were a fluke is too hard of a term. We need something one level below fluke, but that's what I thought their run to the question card, so I know as well as they just sometimes you catch the exact right playoff breaks. You know, they get a jazz team that's imploding, they get a Phoenix team that just got old, like the week before that series. That game 7 is also credit Deluca. He was incredible. He took the will of that team in that game. I also think that game 7 was not a normal game 7. You know, and then they get kind of gentlemen swept out of the west finals. I don't see them making the Western Conference Finals with this team. They maybe are going to move Christian wood still ahead of the deadline. If you play Kyrie Luka and Christian wood together, your defense is going to get shredded. It's going to be, you know, Dorian Finney synth was their best rotor defender and I understand that they need to go out and get a star, and he is attractive contract, et cetera, but he's someone who I'm trying very hard to not have to give up in a trade. I'm trying to move Dinwiddie Hardaway. I mean, point being, that's the exact type of player they now need to put around Luca and Kyrie and shout out to nakai Duncan who wrote about their on court basketball fit. We both love Nick hyacinth a lot of respect for his work. And he wrote about some sets and ways carrying Luca can play off of each other. I think in theory, there's ways for them to play two main game. In practice, this is a massive change for Luka Dončić to undergo in the middle of the season. At least when you bring in someone like porzingis, for example, you can run pick and rolls with him. There's a natural fit between kind of a wing and a big

"The Lakers don't offer both first round picks, if you're Sean marks and the offer is Russ and one pick, do you do it? Or do you just say screw it? We're playing it out. Like that's just not worth it to us. We're playing it out. I mean, I would probably play it out. I don't think it's worth it to you because you're just going to let Westbrook expire, and now he becomes a free agent, and now you're I mean, Irving gives you unless basically Kyrie just sits out the rest of the year, right? I mean, that's the only if he goes to that way, but Irving on the roster, if you continues to play and I know we'll have the whole drama of the trade stuff, gives you a better chance because I think this is going to be it, Zach, as this team constructed, gives them at least one more chance with Durant on the roster compared to where Russell Westbrook is. Even if even if the threat is for him to leave as a free agent, and then where are you going? I mean, where are you going as a free agent? I mean, I put out the teams that have room. I know teams can create room and they're signing trades and all that stuff. We're going to go to Houston, you're going to go down there. They're going to pay 36 million to play with Jay on green. Is that what they want to do? So I think for me, if there's such a little bit of a discrepancy too, Westbrook and Irving salary like something else got to come back because you're taking on some money, tax wise, if I'm Brooklyn, but if I'm not getting, I mean, it's got to make sense for me to do the deal or I'm going to call his bluff and let's play out the season. Which they did with Durant. Now the difference is they had years with Doran. And they also had a player who I think they were confident he's going to play. Kevin Durant's a pro and he's going to play. By the way, it seems like ancient history, but it was only June 2022. The glory years of 2022 way back when. So whatever months ago, when member of the Kyrie opt in opt out drama was at the center of the league and I'm looking at the world story right now, Kyrie submitted this list of teams that he'd be willing to accept a sign and trade to in the event that he opted out of 36 million in the nets were to trade him and here's the lead of vulgar story outside of the Los Angeles Lakers. There are currently no known teams planning to pursue sign and trade deals for Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving. What happened a day later? He opted in because the market was completely dried up. Now in some ways, it's almost smarter to do it now on his part because you do have teams in the middle of the season who are disappointed, desperate, reaching, and maybe one of them reaches in his direction. I just don't know who the team is if it's not Dallas or the Lakers, and I don't know that those teams are gonna offer me enough that I just don't say screw it. Now, I have to have a meeting with Durant though. If I'm the nets, I need to sit down with Durant and just take his temperature on all of this because ultimately Bobby, all the noise, all the drama is always around Kyrie and before that hardened and currently Simmons, the guy here who really moves the league is Durant. That's the endgame that actually matters. That's what all the vultures have been circling overhead for since they got a limited from the playoffs last year is what's going to happen with Durant. Yeah, and I think if you take Durant's temperature, he's probably going to say, let's get through the season and we'll talk about it in the off season where this roster is. And that's probably that's the Durant position. You mentioned Miami, this does coincide speaking of teams that are kind of getting Nancy midseason with a series of games with Kyle Lowry has been benched late in games and in crunch time and has just one of 5 two of 6 every game. That's interesting. Don't know that they want to I don't know what this just happened. I don't have like really super hard Miami Intel you outlined what the off road would be and why it might not be appealing to the nets. The clippers have been mentioned, so my take all along about the clippers who have been linked to both Russ and Kyrie is like what if point guards, everything I've heard for a year is leading me to say, I would be very, very surprised if the clippers actually dipped their toe into this Kyrie Irving situation. Maybe that'll change if Kawhi goes to them and says, do this or else or whatever. I just don't get the sense that they have the appetite for it. Yeah, I mean, I don't either. I mean, they're not training turns, man. I mean, it's basically like, I mean, I don't even know like Covington canard and fillers, right? Like that's kind of what you're staring at if you're the clippers have to. You're not trained. You're not trained in the first round. Pick, not for basically a three month rental.

The Key Issues Involved in the Tyre Nichols Killing

"I'd like to offer some thoughts on the Tyree Nichols killing. Kyrie Nichols is a black guy lived in the area of Memphis and on January 7th of this year, he was in his car, according to police driving recklessly, although we haven't seen any video of that, the police nevertheless, and this part of it is on video, they pull them over and then they walk up to the car and yank him out of the car and tell him to get on the ground. He seems to be complying. He says, okay, okay, okay, man. And while he's on the ground, they tase him. They hit him with a taser at which point I think natural flight kicks in and he begins to run. So they chase him down and unbelievably. Beat him to death. So this is anyone who's seen the video, Debbie and I watched it. I watched, I'd watch one version of it yesterday I watched another version this morning. It's really hard to justify. In fact, David's reaction where she goes, well, this is worse than what Derek Chauvin did to George Floyd. This is inexcusable. However, the policeman, the four cops who did this, were black. There wasn't a white policeman involved at all. And so for the left, this has become a little bit of a problem. Obviously, it is a clear case. I think it's a clear case for anyone who sees the video. Of police brutality.

"Like, Kyrie every single season he's been in Brooklyn has put the organization through at least one major drama controversy strain and all of that bears watching. I still don't think it's a given that Kyrie Irving finishes the season with the nets. And that's just my gut. I'm not saying that's sourcing or anything else. I just think that, you know, every day when you have this guy on your team, you're bracing yourself for what may be coming next. And I think the nets are going to have to think about that over the next couple of months as we get toward the trade deadline. Yeah, I thought Kyrie looked average in that game, looked tentative in that game. Some of it I expected that was a long layoff. He's gone through a lot. I'm guessing he didn't play a lot of basketball during his time off, at least not the kind of basketball that would keep him in game shape. So I kind of saw what I expected to see on the court. I didn't expect to see the Israel united in Christ group outside all decked out in the same wardrobe. Demonstrating in support of Kyrie Irving. It's really not in Christ is a group that is identified as a hate group by the southern poverty law center. Not good. Everything you read about this group is not good whatsoever. Kyrie was asked about this group being outside after the game. And I understand Kyrie getting asked the question about this group and his reaction to it. I also understand in that moment, Howard. Kyrie not really willing to talk about it. Like he had just finished a game, right? An NBA game. And I'm just guessing, but I'm gonna guess that you never want a time in the locker room to dive into who this group was and what the hell was going on outside. Like, that's just my guess. At the moment. So I also didn't mind Kyrie kind of punting on any kind of answer on that question. He did a lot in, again, I agree with you what you said. All his wounds are self inflicted. Like this is all a mess of his own make. But he did an extended interview with our friend Ian begley over at S and Y. He did a media gag with reporters that where he addressed all the questions that media people had about him over the last couple of days. We kind of got into this last week and this is where I predicted this Sunday game would be the game to watch and it was.

"Nike drops NBA star Kyrie Irving after his suspension On Thursday the Brooklyn Nets suspended guard Kyrie Irving for at least 5 games for what the team called a repeated failure to unequivocally say he has no anti semitic beliefs On Friday Nike canceled next week's launch of the Kyrie 8 ending its relationship with Irving that began when he was drafted as the number one pick in 2011 Irving was suspended by the nets for posting a link to a documentary that contains anti semitic material Later on Instagram after the suspension Irving apologized saying he was deeply sorry to all Jewish

"In which case he'd be inviting obviously a much stiffer punishment. It was after that that the nets then finally issued their statements, the strongest one they had issued and issued the 5 game suspension, pending an apology. One thing I'm curious about is that what Kyrie Irving's apology did come late late last night, and I thought it was heartfelt. Listen, if people are already picking apart aspects of it, whether they thought it was insincere, whether they thought certain things were still too qualified, whether he still, because he still saying he doesn't disagree with everything in the movie. Now we're still left to wonder, okay, which parts do you agree with and which parts are you disavowing? All of that is fair, but I did think it was a heart failed apology. If people want to be cynical and say, well, it's only because now he's losing paychecks because of the suspension and he wants to get that cleared up fine. I get that too. I do wonder are the nets going to say the 5 game minimum is still the 5 game minimum or given that he has to apologize will they perhaps lessen that and allow him back sooner? Not the most important thing, but a detail that I'm curious about. At what point do they decide that he has made amends? But in the meantime, the anti definition. Sean marks, Sean marks spoke Desean Mark spoke on Friday and it sounds like while the apology was a step in the right direction for the nets. It wasn't enough. So the going out on this two game road trip, I'd be surprised if we saw Kyrie back before the end of this 5 game suspension. The question becomes can he do enough to satisfy the nets satisfied the league and get back with this team? And I don't know the answer to that at this point. Look, if I look at if past is prologue, Kyrie Irving will be allowed back because the nets have done nothing but enable him since he's been there. They have done nothing but tater to him since he's been that they've caved on multiple occasions when it comes to Kyrie Irving. Last year with the vaccine stuff, they sent him home. When the going got tough, they invited him back into the mix. Here you have it this year where they were just doing everything humanly possible to not issue a suspension. And it took and I have to believe that when Kyrie Irving stood up on Thursday to do

"Ben Simmons playing for the first time in over a year. I mean, I interpret this decision by Kyrie as a big win for Brooklyn. They get, they get their guy back, and they don't have to commit massive long-term money to him. Yes, all of that absolutely, it is a huge win for Brooklyn on top of that. Let's go back to something I said in the opening about posturing about positioning about spin and everything else. In my notes, my extensive notes. By the way, I think I might just spend the rest of this podcast just laughing out loud. In my notes, one of the things I had noted was that the nets saying do Kyrie, as was reported by the New York Daily News earlier today. Hey, you know what? Go ahead. You're a permission. Go seek sign in trades. You know what? Kyrie Irving likely found out there when he went and sought those sign in trades. That they're not there. That not that many teams want to take a flyer on Kyrie or that want to acquire him in a sign and trade in which he's going to be asking for four years at or near the max. And then taking on all that comes with him. How many teams out there? Very, very few. I was asking a couple of people in this earlier today. And aside from the Lakers who have, you know, look, they're desperate. They're desperate to do anything right now. The only other team that somebody suggested to me might have some interesting Kyrie and could handle all that comes with him was the Miami Heat. Yeah, I heard that too. And yeah, yeah. Right. So Chris, this is the logical endpoint of what just happened over the course of not just today but the last several days. Kyrie wants more than they want to give him, kairi's pissed off that they don't want to commit as much as he thinks he should be committed to. Well, then fine. Somebody else will give it to me. Go ahead, Kyrie. Go see who will commit to you. Go see who out there wants to acquire you in a sign and trade with all that comes with it, not to mention having a hard cap by doing it, there's nothing out there, Chris. That's the bottom line. Kyrie decided to opt in because he realized the market for him does not exist. At least not at the level that he wants it. Even if you just, if he were a free agent tomorrow, I'm telling you, there are not teams knocking down his door. This is not, by the way, meech throwing shade. This is just the reality. As talented as he is, as gifted as he is, and we have all seen him at his best and he's an incredible player. It's all the other stuff that comes with him..

"Hard for me and maybe you've heard something, but it would be hard for me to believe that Miami and the clippers would not be interested, especially the clippers who have been looking for a point guard. And then Miami, as well, Kyle Lowry hasn't quite worked out the way they were hoping. And I think you can kind of look at the series they had with Boston and you can say, maybe they were like a star away from winning that series. So I mean, you put Kyrie Irving and in Miami and again, the Miami culture, you know, maybe that works. It would be hard for me to believe that they would not be interested. That being said, my personal opinion is this is all just leverage. It's posturing. I think there's such a little chance that he's not going back to Brooklyn because again, Brooklyn wants to please Kevin Durant. They don't want to risk doing a trade that's going to lower the value of the team and lower and when I mean by lower the value lower their ability to compete. And that's really they have a superstar to please as well. As long story short. So I think it's just posturing ultimately, I think they're going to find some common ground. They're going to give Kyrie four years or whatever it ends up being Kyrie takes three years and maybe an option or whatever it is. They're going to find a way they're going to agree on the money because it's just too difficult for me to see them not bringing him back when it really comes down to push comes to shove. So, you know, and I would rather that than him go somewhere else. Yes, right, right, right. Yeah, I mean, I would rather Kyrie just stay with the nets. If the options are stay with the nets or go to the clippers, stay with the nets, Kyrie, just stay. I get what you're saying. I think that I think you're right. I think ultimately the most likely, despite what's going on right now, most likely outcome is he stays. I think that a lot of this was from Kyrie initially at least about creating leverage. Maybe we've gotten to a point where the back and forth got so heated between the two sides of Kyrie's like, eh, no, then forget it. I'm out..

"If LeBron goes, they could. But this guy really really don't want to be a Laker if LeBron is gone. Stuff to consider. A lot to break down here. And I haven't even gotten into a philosophically basketball wise. Do you want Kyrie Irving? That's coming. That's coming. We'll get there. Jarrett Nunes said realistically, a three team deal would be the way to go. Yeah, look, a three team deal is if Kyrie's going to land with the Lakers the most likely outcome is a three team deal and Kyrie ibsen to that final year of his contract. And that's the path we go down. That's the most likely thing, the most likely scenario to take place. But again, then you complicate things with you got to trade Russ. And you've got to find somebody who will give stuff to the Brooklyn Nets for Russ, that that's actually one. That's not easy. So again, there's no easy path to this. There's no just direct path. It's not like the Lakers are sitting there with max cap space saying, hey, Kyrie, come on down. Here's a max contract. That's easy. The paths the Lakers have to get Kyrie are not easy. But if Kyrie is out there enough to say all forgo $30 million, you take it, you take it, if you're the Lakers and you say, okay, let's do this. Let's build this team out. Kyrie LeBron. Anthony Davis, whatever we can trade Russell Westbrook for. Off we go. Bomba mentality says if we get Kyrie for the MLE, now I'm open to trading Russ for Hayward and Uber or look for trade similar to that. Our next move should be getting a power forward in a wing agreed. Agreed a 100% if you trade Kyrie of if you get Kyrie, your next move is to trade Russ and to get that depth. To get the depth that you didn't have last season and if you can find wings, that's fantastic. That's what you're looking for in any kind of a move after that. In terms of rounding out your roster, you need those big switchy winks. Again, easier said than done. Everybody's looking for those guys. I'm blown away. The rumor is PJ Tucker's getting a three year $30 million offer from 76ers. Now there might be some non guaranteed money in there at the end of it. Who knows? Maybe it's a team option for the last season, something like that could be in there. But PJ Tucker is 37 years old. And he's talking about getting a full mid level exception. That goes to show you how weak the wing market is and how high the demand is for wings right now. The supply of wings out on the market, it's almost nonexistent. The demand for them very high, 30 teams are looking for wings right now, basically..

"They're no longer screwing around here. The question is, you know, what do you take away from the reporting that Kyrie is at impasse with nets? Because to me, certainly not knowing the source of the reporting, this felt like Kyrie Irving's team softening the ground a little bit out there. Putting it out there to put some pressure on the nets to suggest that there are other options for Kyrie that are yeah, it came across very much like a leverage play by Kyrie and his camp. And again, as you said, this is not to doubt anything about the reporting that brought this to light in the last couple of days, but listen, we've all been doing this a long time. Sometimes it's just pretty clear that some of the framing is being created by one side. This framing that Kyrie himself is the one who's saying, well, or that Kyrie feels that he's going to explore these other options. What other options? So he's trying to create the idea of leverage with the Lakers and the clippers and the Knicks. When none of those three teams have salary cap room, if he opts out, he's now he's now got to deal with the market as it is. The teams that have cap rumor can get there or needs the nets participation in a sign and trade. Granted, the nets will be incentivized to do so. But you are now introducing a massive number of variables. Do any of these teams actually want him and how badly do they want him? And since they don't have cap room and would have to do it via site and trade, what are they willing to give up in a trade? Are those things that they're willing to give up, things that the nets actually want? And on top of that, are these teams because of salary cap machinations if you acquire a guy in a side and trade, you're now subject to the hard cap, which means it's a lot harder to finish building out your roster, which for the Lakers in particular, I'd say the next two, but especially the Lakers as a team that's trying to be a contender, would really, really hamstring you to be hard kept by.

"What it is? With Kyrie Irving, Irving still on the roster, and I say no, because you can't play emea DOCA defensive system. No. With Kyrie. Out there for 40 minutes a game. It would be a disaster. We've seen it especially in the postseason. We're seeing it in this series right now. We've seen it for years when he doesn't have an amazing defense around him to protect him. It would help. It would still be a great defense, but it wouldn't be this good. And so in a way, now if the subjects continue this run and somehow get to the finals here, again, a long way to go, but in terms of their long-term trajectory, I think the possibilities of what this roster can become, the upside is almost better without Kyrie in the picture and all the baggage he brings. Yeah, because and I love this. I mean, this is homegrown. Like this is the approach that I wanted all the time. Back in 2018, right? So I'm writing for the sports hub website. I write a thing about why the Celtics should not trade for LeBron or sign LeBron or whatever, when LeBron was a thing and people were going out there trying to court him. And a bunch of people picked it up, you know, like deadspin kicked me around a little bit. It was just like, oh, great, you know, this is good. I'm getting some attention for my quote unquote, hot take, but really I just didn't want LeBron on the Celtics. And I wanted them to be a team that I could get to know, watch, grow, maybe raise my kid on a little bit, like these are some players that we can expect to see here, you know, we have a real kinship with them, like this is the ultimate goal. Again, I will keep saying this. I'm not going to come on here and get yelled at and called green teamer because I'm praising the Celtics right now and they haven't actually accomplished the ultimate goal. I think there is some reason to say that we really like what we're seeing here. And it's just, it's fun for me to have it go this way, particularly when everyone was naysaying. You know, that this wasn't the approach or the Celtics needed that third star. You know, like all the conventional MBA stuff they need to build a super team..

"I'll be pretty sorry walking the dock here. Sure. This is going to do it. I just want to talk about Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. You know, Kevin Trent is getting what he richly deserves. And if he should be irritated, he shouldn't be irritated with Kyrie, but himself because he hitched his wagon to a guy who missed a bulk of the games this season due to not getting the vaccination. Then decides to do the Ramadan, which I can respect, but you're in the playoffs right now. They're not gelling and you know how they're not young is because they didn't have an opportunity to play together. I mean, if he's irritated, he should be irritated to Kyrie, but more of himself. I mean, you hit your wagon to the sky, this is what you get. He bailed on Boston's last season and, you know, he's going to mail it in again. It's just, he's richly getting what he deserves. I just wanted to touch on that. You know, I mean, I'm enjoying seeing the collapse of Brooklyn, you know? They wanted during the, you know, during the all star break, wanting to get together. So, you know, what comes around goes around and I'm enjoying the karma. That's all I wanted to say. Yeah, thank you, Joe. And I mean, that's certainly the mentality around here. You know, you look at it from a national lens P rob, do you think that a lot of the folks out there are looking at Durant and there's always legacy talk and this and that and just kind of saying it's easy for bostonian to say, oh, the nets, they're no good. They got that dirty bump Kyrie, but you know, when you kind of go out and take the 10,000 foot view, is it, is this like really damaging to that conversation for Kevin Durant? You have to at this point. I mean, look at it the three years they've been together in Brooklyn right now. Year one was a wash since Durant was hurt, and they knew that going in, but Kyrie gave up on that team halfway in regardless and got Kenny Atkins and fired. Good coach. They had a lot of emerging young talent there that they cashed in on for James Harden last year. Last year was their chance and Kyrie got hurt in the postseason, which has happened a lot in his career, which he's always had durability, which is one of the biggest knocks on him. And then this year, Joe covered.

"kyrie" Discussed on The Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix

"Durant. And that's what you need. If you don't have a big three anymore and then that's do not right now, and if you have no belief that you're getting that big three any time soon and I don't think they should have that belief, then the next best thing you can do is say we're all in on our big two and when you have a big two, you need to now make up for that lack of a third star with higher quality roll guys. The nets have a huge gap between their stars and the rest of that group. They could use some punch. And a deal like that would work. By the way, it's not that big of a sacrifice. One because Kyrie's not playing at all. And two, he's got an option to leave this summer. And before you say, oh, he'd never do that. I mean, look at his track record forces the way his way out of Cleveland gets to Boston, leaves Boston. You don't know what Kyrie Irving's next move is. He's making 35 million now. He's got a $36 million option for next season. He could turn it down and walk away. And even if he doesn't walk away, even if he wants to return, after all you've been through with Kyrie Irving for the nets and this is not a decision they have to make right now, but are you sure you want to resign him to another max deal? That's going to extend for four years, starting next summer? I know it sounds crazy to say that. The guy's incredibly talented and has, you know, a lot of success in this league, but man, Kyrie Irving is is right now sabotaging their championship hopes. Are you really gonna bring him back next summer? And if you're not, then that's one more reason to say it's time to just trade him for whatever you can get. And there are 27 other teams that will not have this problem, right? The only teams that have to worry about local laws regarding co vaccines are New York so the Nixon nets and the warriors in San Francisco. You can play for now. I mean, like Los Angeles, I wouldn't be surprised if it trends in that direction. Sure. And other cities. Right. But half the league at least could accommodate Kyrie Irving right now without any COVID concerns, other than the possibility that he gets it. I think by the way, I think Kyrie ops out no matter what, because I do think, even if it's not a short term deal, he'd be able to recoup that money. Like, there's gonna be a free agency class next summer stinks. So Kyrie somebody out there would clear space to give Kyrie to your max, maybe I don't know if you want to commit four years to him, but maybe someone will, but somebody will be out there to pay him that..
