"You and you take a 103s every day and how are you day one versus day 100? I like this idea Andrew Lopez. I think we'll pitch this. I'm sure Fred vinson has a lot of time to spare to just turn you into a big three point shooter. Yeah, the Fred vinson who is now working with Athena like everybody on the team with their shot. He mentioned Brandon mentioning yesterday him and herber in there at 7 o'clock in the morning before oh, more herd propaganda herb does not go home ever. We asked her if he had caught any fish this year, he's like, yeah, I went out one day, I didn't catch any fish and were like, that was like one day, like that was it. Larry Nance was offering to pay for vacations for her Jones because herb Jones would not leave the gym. Or her Jones problem. Herb Jones, that's great, man. Go see Paris or something. Like go live a little herb Jones. I like it. I like the fact that your arms are so long that they almost from three point range, you can just put the ball into the basket without throwing it. Like you should be a little better three point shooter just because of your arms, but go see Rome, go see the coliseum. Go have some tapas in Barcelona. Go do something. Quote, I don't take many trips. That's a quote from her job. Take a trip, my man. Take a trip, live a little. Have CJ. Tell you where the good wines are in nappa or something. Dyson, I think when you're as dice and continues to grow and you can put Dyson in some of those lineups with herb. I think that's their kind of vision you have two very good plus defenders on the wing. Obviously we're going to take some time before we see dice and do that, but Dyson does look like the guy who can be special and I think he takes somebody's spot by December and again that's that was the Lakers pick. That was a top ten protected pick that they were sending in to Memphis in that and they get the pick. I don't think anybody thought that they were going to have a lottery Lakers picked this early and now they basically are adding Dyson and Zion to everybody who played minutes last year. The Lakers, they de trade has already yielded the number four pick which they could have been Deandre hunter or Darius Garland and they flipped into 8 and 16 or whatever it was. And number 8. Two top 8 picks out of that AD trade already. And Jackson Hayes, the action haze was at 8 pick and Nikhil and now he may be in kiel was the other one and now we'll see where Jackson is at this rotation because I think, you know, is he here for? Is he your backup for? And you're going four nand men. I mean, again, you just get into positional well, he and he and you can do a lot of things. He and even Kyra Lewis, people are still interested in them as sort of second draft guys around the league like at the trade deadline or people are other teams are monitoring them. Especially kaira Lewis has been forgotten him at his knee injuries. People are still intrigued by him. Like I'll wrap by saying this. If I'm imaginary Lakers fan like hers, like hers, if I'm that guy making the L and bringing the signs to the game. Like ours. And I'm like, man, we gotta get into the top 6. What's our path to the top 6? Well, I mean clippers, they're awesome warriors awesome. Denver awesome. Phoenix seems a little crazy right now, but we'll pencil them in S four. Dallas, Minnesota Memphis, I know they're gonna be good. Like even if they slip a little bit, they're still gonna be really good. And they have the upside of exceeding at least one of those teams that I just mentioned in the top four. That's 7. Plant match is getting tight for my Lake or so, oh my God, like a LeBron at age 37 that's getting a little tight. We're gonna be in the play in again. Well, at least we're 7th will have home court, which means, you know, we're just one of those teams slipping up away and us staying healthy away from being 6 5th, we're cool. If I'm looking in the rearview and there's one team that I'm worried about, it's not Portland, it's not Sacramento, which is one team I'm worried about like, man, they just might be better than us. It's the pelicans. I think the pelicans, if they could just make this the 18th best defense, which they were last year, didn't have Zion, didn't have Zion who's been a big net negative on defense, but they could just make this 18th, 17th on defense. I think they could sniff 47 48 49 wins and make a world a hurt for all those Western Conference teams trying to get out of the play in. I think when we did our ESPN, like wind predictions, whatever it was, like, a month ago. I think I think I penciled them in again at 48. I think I was where I landed. But I think I still had them 7th. I think it was just I was looking for winds. Maybe Minnesota is going to fall, but again, going back to, this was a team that played at a 44 win pace in all of

"All right, as we continue our tour of interesting Kevin Durant trades that are not on Kevin Durant's list and teams that have had maybe not a nice decade, but a nice week. Let's turn to New Orleans where our buddy Andrew Lopez is in the house to talk about Zion Williams extension and another team lurking lurking like they're hunting for an unsuspecting fish off the coast, the New Orleans pelicans, Andrew Lopez, how are you, sir? I am very good. It has been a very, very good week for the pelicans. If you would have told me they would have had this good of a week, maybe 7 months ago, I don't know if I would have believed you, or even a year ago, so. But nice to things have turned around here in New Orleans. Pelicans, by the way, when you see a pelican dive, just straight down into the water. It's a badass freaking bird. By the way, people who think the pelicans are nice and cute and it's a goofy mascot. Tell that to the fish because they don't see it coming. I would say if you think it's a nice goofy mascot, let me go pull out scary Pierre from the closet. Somewhere lurking on airline drive in a we'll pull that one out and see how see how cute it is. So there's a Mardi Gras themed summer party where I lived it's coming up and we were talking about people go dress up for this. I don't have the energy. I'm the Grinch who's like, I can't be bothered with the dress up. But I was telling people what I should do is get the original Pierre the pelican costume and dress up as that, even though it's not really a Mardi Gras thing. And they didn't know the story. And I told them the story of Pierre and how Pierre was some mutant combination of like a bird and Pennywise the clown from it. And so off putting that the team had to construct a fake story where Pierre has plastic surgery. Remember, they posted a video. Everything was wrapped, his beak was wrapped, all this thing because he got the oh yeah, it was great. Is he still called Pierre? What is his name now? He is still Pierre, but what you are telling me right now, I think the king cake baby needs to make an appearance at this thing. So I sent people photo. I met the king gig baby at all star, one of the all star New Orleans. He came to what was then the jump and it's king cake baby, look, if you're listening, I love you. We're friends now, king cake, baby, okay? We're Friends. You're not off putting to me anymore. I'm a fan. I've learned to love you the way you are, but God damn that thing is a strange. There's some king cake baby socks that they gave out one year and it's one of those things that I think where if you flip them inside out, they just look completely like if you think it's terrifying as is. You know what it is, it's the big baby head and the skinny little arms in the white gloves that just sort of come at you like claws. It's just a very strange I don't really know how that thing came to exist. But I think the kink baby may have to make an appearance at this. I think we may be able to arrange this. Well, when I told people about the Pierre plastic surgery story, they couldn't, they thought I was making it up. And I said, no, here's a photo of what this freaking thing looked like. And the horror that came across their faces upon gazing at original Pierre was like visceral, like Michael Myers is chasing me in Halloween level terror. Just looking at the photo of this thing. Okay, we've really lost control of the podcast slash I have. Do New Orleans pelican Zion 5 year extension at the max, no player option in year 5. Apparently some injury protections that we don't know the specifics of yet according to our own Bobby marks. And I think did Griff say something about that so far. Griffiths, Griffiths said it before that, you know, when we go back to when John talked in April, he told us, hey, look, of course, I wouldn't be able to sign it fast enough. That was his quote about the extension. And Griff kind of mentioned, look, this is going to be a long process. It is going to be something that we have to talk about. So I think they know we know their stuff in there. We just don't know exactly what it is. If it's games played or anything like that, but I'm sure they have protected themselves a little bit against injury stuff. So here's their current starting 5. I'm guessing you can correct me if I guess is wrong. CJ McCollum, herb Jones, Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, Jonas valentinus. Yes. And I think they will continue to make sure her drones is listed at the two so he gets that guard eligibility for all defense next year. That lineup is awesome. Offensively, if the pelicans are not a top 5 offense, someone has gotten injured or something has gone wrong. That is a dynamite lineup offensively. I don't care about the only one ball problem. Zion can be a screener, Zion can be a ball handler, Zion, and Jonas valentinus are going to destroy people on the offensive glass Zion can post cyan could screen and roll. There's going to be some spacing stuff to work out with Zion and yones, but I don't think that's going to affect the offense at all. Offense is going to be dynamite. I mean, we saw kind of what they wanted to do essentially with that starting lineup when they put Jackson Hayes at the fore. And I mean, obviously, we know Jackson Hayes and Zion Williamson are different human beings, but stylistically on the offense, Jackson wants to cut Jackson is going to be around the room. He'll hover around the three point line at times. Obviously Zion can do a lot more with the ball and do he can post up and do different things, but we did get a little taste of what they wanted to do there. And I think the biggest thing right now of those groups, I mean, you can put two of those guys on the floor at the same time at all times. And I think that's going to be the key how up to how this team really gets going offensively. If it's CJ and Brandon, if it's Zion and brain to die on a teacher, you can mix and match a lot there. And I think that's going to just continue to lift those offense. Off the bench, I mean, I would headline the bench with Trey Murphy, who I really, really like. I had a nice rookie season. Everyone's favorite Internet sensation Jose alvarado, Larry Nance junior, and you can go down from there to some of the other guys. I love the idea of Zion and Nance playing together at the four and the 5. I think that's really interesting. You can go down this roster and say, I think now pelicans fans really do not like Garrett temple and I think I get the sense pelicans Twitter has tired of Garrett temple, Kyra Lewis is coming off injury and has not really found his footing in the NBA. You could argue this is maybe the only team other than the clippers maybe who has 15 legit NBA players or guys that you would be comfortable playing in an NBA game. I mean, they are super, super deep, and we didn't mention Dyson Daniels who they just drafted. Now he might take some time, but people are really high on him. There's a lot of talent on this team that can be deployed in lots of different ways. And right now, so they're at 15 guaranteed contracts right now because they obviously went into the off season with 14, drafted Dyson Daniels, who was 15. They still have their second round pick, EJ Liddell, who they like a lot.

"Chris. Don't worry. Don't you worry about us. Alvarado felt like he played a hundred minutes in that game. He only played 18. It was a loud 18 minutes. We talked about how Wiggins could be out there for an hour and I'm not even sure he's out there. All right, are you just aware the entire time? He's just doing stuff. He's doing things. I love guys like that. There's a very playoff E kind of feel to them, even devonte Graham, who I'm not a huge fan of, but at least when he feels kind of heat checky. You know? You could see him making a couple threes and 5 minutes. Totally. I mean, you know, he's basically was like 17 minutes a game in April and then just kind of beyond that wasn't even a factor. Yeah. But I mean, I've seen him make big shots for the hornets before. You know, like I've seen him at least, you know, I don't think he's as good as Terry Rozier, but you understand the point. If he got you a couple, just like you said, I don't need to add to it. If he got you a couple buckets in a big spot, it wouldn't shock you because he can create his own shot. What team, what team do you think was watching tonight's game? And was the most excited about it? That wasn't in the game. Kuzma? Gold state, Kyle Kuzma, maybe. He's been getting a lot. Well, Kuzma's, yeah, he feels left out. I know golden states what you're looking for there. No, I don't know. If I'm the Celtics, that's another one where I'm like, man, now Phoenix is going to have to probably go 7 just to get out of round one. This is all looking up Celtics. These days. And then I think the other one is Dallas. Where Dallas is thinking, man, all right, we blew game four. But if we can, if we could just get through this Utah series, this Phoenix team we're watching that can barely get by New Orleans. It'd be pretty juicy. Do you like the plan more or less? Because this is happening. They literally went, I think, 29 games less than the sun. Well, I'm not going to feel sorry for the suns. If they blow this, I'm not going to go, well, the plan. You know, I won't do that. I wouldn't do that. So you're pro playing now. No, I love the plan now. I can see it in your ass. No, I don't like to play. I think it's a ridiculous concept that a team can win. As many games as 7 seat will some years and then there's going to be some shitty 31 win ten seed. Like, all right, let's see if we can make the playoffs now. What was the point of the 80 games? But it doesn't mean I'm not interested. It saw one of the tanking issues. Which was the incentive for a team if the first half of their season did not go the way they wanted. If they had some injury or whatever, that there was no incentive for them to try to salvage what was going on, which is what New Orleans did. So I guess I owe David Griffin and apology. You've already apologized. I don't even know if it's an apology. I think it's a recognition that through all the Zion bullshit, you're right to stand higher was terrible, you know, and then when JJ Redick went off on Griffin like that added to it. The team culture stuff. Right. So all of a sudden it's piling on its pilot on and while all of that was happening in all of it was fair, criticism, the front office were putting together a really nice roster and they seemed to be hitting on a ton of these picks, whether it's Jones, whether it's alvarado is not even a draft pick, or it's Murphy, who I think it can be even more than he showed, but he's playing real minutes. I still let Kyra Lewis, which I'll just keep saying over and over again. They did a great job of the CJ trade. The valentinus trade to me is a win. I know that Memphis looked at it as they wanted somebody who fit the atoms profile more to help Jaron Jackson, but.

"In a second. I have some quick sixers raptors thing for you. Tough weekend for genius coaches? Did Bilbo check a basketball tie loo? Blowing up blowing a play in lead to the raptors? Nick thurs getting undressed. The rivers I thought? Oh, Nick nurse. Nick nurse against Doc, yeah. I mean, look, that was make Thursday a little undressed. I mean, the atoms, I want to save it for part two, but the atoms was 2014, Kendrick Perkins ish. Had an aurora as a role in that series where you just go, all right, how long are you going to stick with this one? But yeah, tough round for the genius coaches, the clippers, not making the playoffs. Wow. You think they were supposed to? No, there was a moment in that game where I was like, I can't believe New Orleans was going to win this. So the clippers have all these battle tests that dudes. God, I'm so stupid. I bet on New Orleans. And then all of a sudden flipped again. And they had a better New Orleans I thought I had a better team. I mean, they have the alvarado and the herb Jones. As playoff ro guys at home, like talk about the difference between what we saw today with grant Williams and Tyson, some of those guys that I wanted to step up. Those alvarado and herb Jones were like in the mix. This guy's had never played an NBA game like that ever. I was impressed by them. I think I get their asses kicked by Phoenix, but I was impressed. I want 30 seconds on the pelicans. Yeah. David Griffin that staff, do you want to talk about not getting enough credit? I don't get any fucking credit, all right? And because we'd heard all the rumblings, the Griff might be out, you know, this is disastrous, this back and forth with Zion, which I've heard ten different versions of. That's why I probably just given up talking about it. But if you think to all the young players that they've drafted and how they've put together this team with the problems that they've had to have herb Jones, even Murphy, the kid from UVA, who I knew, there's more to his game and he doesn't seem to want it, but that was a nice pickup to have Alexander walker in the Josh Hart trade to add somebody like CJ where you talk about tears of players and you go, whatever you've given up, like CJ's at the other tier. Now we have a tear beyond what we gave up here. I still like Kyra Lewis. That team has done a very good job with drafting and developing, you know, I don't always love Jackson Hayes, but like I thought the yona Steven Adams trade was a good one. The CJ trade was a good one. Ingram's a good player, granted. It's going to be more limited when Zion's running the point. The whole fucking time. But that team doesn't get any like no one ever talks about my guy alvarado. Yeah, right. El Dorado two, I mean, you go on and on. They've done such a good job with this, but the Zion thing has been such an overshadowing headline that I don't feel like I've heard anybody nationally talk about. Hey, you know who deserves credit to pelicans? Well, he's literally overshadowing people when he's sitting on the bench 'cause he looks huge. He just does look like he's in shape to me. Still. The foot's healthy, but it's rough. Last thing on the Philly game, the hardened stuff, I think will become a storyline. I don't think it's going to be this serious. But they went up 15 in Toronto is kind of and then all of a sudden that was hard to make a couple step backs. This is James Harden time. We're up 17. Who knows? I mean, he's such a good passer. That he can get away with the diminished first. He's just so skilled at playing basketball. He can kind of cheat code it a little bit. But it will become a storyline at some point. The game I just went to, I don't know how hard I could have played in that game. I honestly, I don't know, I don't know what happened to him in that game. How many bodies were banging and how fast and quick everybody was. I just can't see him surviving in a game like that. In the shape he's in. You said something and I know we have a bigger part too coming up here. Yeah. Bulls showing a little life. I got to go to score by win this by 40 when it started. I don't know because I'm not calling you out on this, but I imagine in transit. Did you get to watch much of Miami? Because you started by saying you.

"Like if they offer him a max contract and it's $200 million, something like that. And by the way, this is no statement on whether or not the pelicans should or should not offer him that deal. I mean, based off of talent, they should. I mean, we've seen enough in my opinion to where if you're willing to bet on Zion Williamson, you're betting on the conditioning and thus your betting on his defense improving. I think through conditioning. But like I just, he would be nuts based off of where he's at now to turn down $200 million. Regardless of who it came from, it would be absolutely insane of him to do that. I just, I don't know, I feel bad for pelicans fans. Like this is such a complicated situation for them. It's such complicated situation for the pelicans. This is a team that hasn't, like they didn't make great moves this off season outside of the herb Jones draft pick, which was phenomenal. Kyra Lewis is obviously out for the year. There are a lottery pick last year. Jackson Hayes is starting to come on a little bit, but the previous high level draft pick that they made. He is not turned out as positively as what they could have hoped. The Devante Griffin devonte Graham, I'm sorry, signing has just been not good. Let's go with. Let's go with not positive toward the team's bottom line. It's tough. It's really, really tough for me to look at what David Griffin has done when also taking into account the fact that he's now problems with JJ Redick. He's now problems with Zion Williamson. He's now on coach number three. It's hard for me to look at this and go like, are we sure that David Griffin's the guy worth keeping if there's friction between him and Zion Williamson as was reported earlier today? I don't know, man. It's a complicated deal. I feel bad for pelicans fans. It's ultimately my takeaway. But I think that at some point, Zion Williamson is going to talk, and we're going to hear from him before the end of the year. I don't think the people at CAA are done. And I think that they're probably starting to understand that Zion Williamson is doing a good job of tanking his value right now. Not only in terms of his basketball value, but his off court value, which is considerable if things go right for him as a player. So I would imagine that at some point here he's going to speak because the people at TA aren't stupid when it comes to brand management and image management. Tony, you're up, bold prediction number one from you..

"Tank in them, but they are third worst in the standings right now. I mean, is there have they even begun mentioning the possibility of like, hey, there is a possibility that we can add another blue chipper here. I think right now they have not, I think they still see they're looking at it. Glass half full, they see themselves over 5 games out of the play in. If we continue on this path and we're like you mentioned, they're 5 and 5 in their last ten, they are, they've got a new kind of starting 5, like you mentioned with Graham valentines at the ends and then the herb Jones, Josh hart, Brandon Ingram wing combo. I heard Jones arms are so long and so skinny and they appear like out of nowhere for rebounds and deflections. Like, you just start watching the game and then there's an arm. I almost feel like his arm is gonna come through my screen and slap me in the face. So I think in two or two, maybe the last three or four games, he's blocked like a few three pointers. And I asked him about it the other day. I was like, how do you like, are you trying to time that? Or he goes, he told me he's like, look, man, I don't think people realize how long my arms are. I'm just putting my arm up there and sometimes I get the ball. He goes, I want to try to be the second jumper. And I just sometimes I surprise myself. So I think maybe maybe herb doesn't realize how long his arms are either. Clearly opponents are still figuring that out, but he has been a great pickup right now for them. They pick them with the 35th overall pick in the second round. Obviously, you knew that they liked him because they gave him the guaranteed deal, but this was a guy who didn't even start on the summer league team. He was like a finisher for them. They weren't even getting to that. If you told me that, at this point in the year, they would be a rookie starting. I would have told you it was Trey Murphy. But of some of the things that came out of Nashville with this team, the one about herb Jones being a really, really good defender has been the one that's been true. And they have been much better when herb Jones is on the floor this year. You know, I think Josh hart has kind of stepped his game up. And it's funny we're talking like these top guys have been great. I don't say great. There have been really good JV's been really good this year. He's now matched, I think his career has seasoned best three point total. He's got 32 so far and these 29 Derek Valentine's Valentine's, they were in a pin down screen for him in that clippers game to get a three pointer, which is one of the more amazing plays that I've seen in the league this year. But with them stepping it up in that in that area, they just need better play from the guards right now. I mean, the Graham has been up and down. Saturation has been not very good. I know he's been dealing with that injury. He came into the seas and dealing with the injury that he suffered in the Olympics. I don't think he really maybe came into the season a 100%, now they're dependent on him since Kyra Lewis towards ACL. So sad I was getting all of the backup and Kyrie Lewis was had a nice couple of weeks before the injury. I've always kind of liked him, but you would see it only in snippets and that's typically the young player you see it in snippets and you have like three games or like what is this guy doing or where is he? He had put together a nice couple of weeks. That's a real, that's a real bummer, and sat around ski. I don't know of many commentators who get as excited for run of the mill basketball plays as Antonio Daniels who I love as their color commentator. Every time Thomas said her instinct just shoots, all he has to do is shoot. Antonio dinos gets so excited because tomo Cedar ansky's go to play on offense is passing up shots. So when he shoots Antonio Daniels goes crazy it's look, it's because he just hasn't shot the ball much this year. I think he I mean, you look at his points for like 36 and it's extremely low. And so now, in fact, the game that Kyra Lewis Torres ACL was Willie had to start with a green had started he was basically he was going to play chira at the end of the first and third, he was playing saddle with the start of the second and the fourth. The game chira towards ACL was the first game that he was like, all right, I'm going to a 9 man rotation. Car is the backup point guard said I was going to be on the bench. And just like that. And now saddle's gonna have to be forced to really he's going to have to be more of a score. And I think you saw that a little bit in the San Antonio game. He started to get more shots up, but he's going to have to step up. Nikhil Alexander walker, who we talked about a lot in the preseason podcast, I think is better as a 6 man. I think that's the role that is the best for him in especially where he's at right now. But he's going to have to start making more shots, saddles going to have to do it and they may have to figure out how they're going to get another boost out of this backcourt. One of the things about devonte Graham, we going back to the Zion conversation, a lot of what this team does would be solved by having Zion on the floor because of what he is. But they built this team around Zion being able to play 15, 20, 25 minutes. At point guard every night. And so a guy like devonte Graham looks better next to a Z because he's going to get way more open shots than he is playing next to just just a brand Ingram. So Brandon in this last stretch, ever since you mentioned the 5 and 5 Mark, I think that might be right after Brandon and Willie green. I remember being at practice and where we do interviews at the pelicans facility, Willy green's office is right to our right and it's got some big windows and it's hard to block. And Willie green and Brandon as he put up as he put up any decoration ship because you know if I'm like Alvin gentry didn't last long stand didn't say anything last long. Am I gonna even bother hanging up some pictures in my office? Is there some decorations in there? He's got a very big TV, but he does have a lot of pictures hanging around. I will say that and one thing. And to be clear, I'm just about to coach. Well, I think Willie green's done a fine job and they're committed to him long term. I'm just making sure. And I will say this. Stan van Gundy when he took his office, he converted his office into more of a conference room, like he kind of just he takes out the single desk and he wants his coaches to meet in there. They have now converted it back to a regular coach's office, which is what I noticed during this meeting with Brandon. Brandon sitting on one side of this, Willie sitting there. It's a 1520 minute conversation. And we've asked both of them about it and obviously they both kind of tried to play it down. But since that meeting, Brandon has been much, much better as a facilitator. I think he had a 12 assist game, a couple of weeks ago against Dallas. I think he had 9, the other night, he probably should have had 13 to 14 against the spurs on Sunday. But Brandon is starting to kind of come into his own as well, which is why I.

"Now, Ingram's been out of the lineup with this hip injury to and without Zion in particular without both of them, it's just not a group that's really, I mean, they can be competitive, but they're not stable. And so under those circumstances, this record, the worst record of the MBA makes total sense. They just do not have the personnel to do more than kind of compete in these games. And I think Jonas valenciunas is really helped in that regard. If they didn't have him, I don't think they'd have a shot in any of these. They would be worse than Sam prestige G league team. Right, the blue. The Oklahoma City blue. Yeah, valenciunas, big winner, because he gets to do whatever the hell he wants. And it actually is nice to see him taking advantage of a team that didn't have Deandre ayton. And he had an advantage they went to it and he was successful at it. I also think like they're competitive. They're trying hard and I think you could tell just by how many times they have van Gundy, like remarked upon how well they were defending. That wasn't the case last year. So if we're looking for silver linings, it looks like they're, you know, they're getting after it. Yeah, I guess. They're like, they're showing up to work and they're doing it, man. Well, they definitely played some national TV defense against the suns. That's for sure. They showed up. They were blitzing Chris Paul. They were forced to turn over. They were right there up in the ball. That's a nice proof of concept for them in what, you know, even defensively. They've been trying but haven't really been great shakes on that side of the ball this season, but to see games like that where even like it's Kyra Lewis pushing the ball. You know, getting up, getting steals. It's your young guys who are creating that kind of havoc. That's a good sign for them. Yeah. Did you see anything from any of those young guys because it's funny that we focus on some of the top line names, but this team is still pretty deep and just like interesting young guys that I'm not totally sure what to make of them. Lewis Alexander walker, herb Jones our guy, Troy Murphy. There's a lot there like rob does anyone like jump off the page is like, oh, this guy's for sure a rotation player, maybe even something more. Yeah, is this just you clearing out for me to ISO on her Jones? Is that what's happening right now? It's going to happen if you do this. I'm just giving you your opportunities, man. I mean, I'll say this about herb Jones. Some guys get tough defensive assignments by default, 'cause like no one on their team can do it. He's the other kind of player who's actually has the chops to guard some of the tougher assignments in the NBA. And you can tell he's a defender because of two things. One, the way he moves, the way he navigates around screens, way positions himself very intuitive on that side of the ball. The other thing is how high he wears his shorts. That dude has to be a defender. That is just exactly what that tells you. The question is, is he ever going to be able to do enough offensively to keep defenses honest? Big TBD, but having Zion on the floor, having Ingram on the floor, we were just talking about the effect that Kawhi can have in terms of creating open shots for other guys. He just needs the relief of playing with stars, I think. Because he can be a pretty good player. And otherwise, they have a lot of interesting young guards, but they're the kind of interesting young guards that don't exactly help you win right now. So it's like it's more flashes than it is consistent strings of quality play reliable play, good systemic stuff, they're just not there yet in terms of Kyra Lewis and the kill Alexander walker. That cohort. Right. I mean, this is what they should be doing. If you're not going to probably win these games, you should be getting the young guys wrapped, see what you have. And this is exactly what the Lakers, for instance aren't doing. They're not buying low on young guys and seeing what they have of them. They're counting on veterans in their last gasp, trying to produce something just to get them by. So that's something, right? Well, and this is where you get to the dissonance of them letting Lonzo go so they can get Garrett temple and tomasa to ramski, then they're not going to play to masato ronski. Garrett temple, sure. That's fine. He's been coming off the bench, give him some good stuff. Like, what are we doing? Why he's competing visions? Well, there's also this last night, I tweeted out, you know, sort of incredulously like, am I really supposed to believe that the sons of this ass? Like it's just impossible, right? And somebody hit one guy hit me back, well, or the alternative is these pelicans players are better than you thought they were and I'm just like, nah, that's not the alternative. They might be some other alternatives. But that's not the alternative. Yeah, and then Chris Paul was just like, oh, I'll win this game and then passed out 20 assists or whatever. Exactly. But it had a nice moment with Willy green afterward. What a heartfelt talk of the heartstring there. All right, let's move along here to another team that's not doing too well. The Portland trailblazers, rob and I talked pretty extensively about their defense last week. I do want to talk about Damian Lillard here because he also ties into, I guess James Harden, who we're going to talk about in a little bit. But it seems like he's struggling, and I think the big question is how much the rules are affecting him. It doesn't seem like he's different athletically, like maybe he's heard or whatever just seems like something's off. And I think you could say that about a lot of players of his similar type try young harden, et cetera. Are you worried at all about the blazers first and foremost, considering that they're three and four and then just lost to the sixers without half of their team. In particular, all of their good players. And are you concerned at all about Lillard maybe not being able to be the guy he used to be in the past because of these rule changes to take them by the scruff and like bring them into competitive 7th seed tour team? I'm not concerned about the blazers because I'm sorry, the team that's been a 7 seed ceiling 60 type of team..

"His body. But I would be real tempted with like two or three people in my staff that I would really trust and be like, what if we went completely outside the box? Like, if this guy is leaking that we're the worst all the time, the organization isn't the right organization. Should we just try to make sure we like, what could we get for him that we know would be healthier? We're speaking my language. I know, I know Daryl would take Zion. I mean, I know it sounds crazy. What's he worth to next? He's worth everything. But for first round. How many times you can bring a Bo be top of it? I'm just throwing you guys out. Randall? Is it RJ Barrett nix? We were on to the next offers, because I mean, it would have to be such a monumental package because if you're gonna keep the pelicans New Orleans, you actually have to keep Zion, the sales, the marketing people, the business side. They all get involved, and then you can't do anything. They put signs on and of course you do. Of course you do. But I think you're shit and bricks about it. Absolutely, you're doing all those things. This is the most name. And on the flip side, everybody, and I even talked about on this part about could Zion be the one who doesn't. I thought it was gonna be Lucca, potentially, but Zion from a health standpoint has to take the extension. Yeah. He's never made the real money before. Okay, but then you're asking like with the push of labor versus management here, we're Ben Simmons tried it. You know, dame may throw it out there. If this year doesn't end right with three years remaining, these are, again, the unchartered territory of this stuff where would Zion be like, okay, thanks for the extension. Now I'm out of here in a year. You know? We joked about towns doing it and then you finally seems like he's sniffing around, but it took an extra year. I don't know what they do. But I'll tell you this. Ingram for Simmons is still a fun something if I need to get a little more from Philly. I think England has more value than Simmons for adverse reasons. But I think there's that too much. Can I get Simmons and maxi and a pick? You probably be able to get a piece of the guard stuff back because they brought in Graham. They got Kyra Lewis. They've got my number one pick for New Orleans painting with. It's pretty good. It's pretty good. I got to know what's happening with Zion. Yeah. Because Ingram, well, when they said he had a Jones fracturing though, he'll be ready for opening night. It's like, what chance? What fucking opening night 2023? What night? What year? I don't know. I don't know. The Jones fracture is like fucking brutal. Go Google Jones fractures. Rough. Anyway, under is all around probably a couple of lacks. I don't like anything they did. I didn't like the Lonzo Ball thing. Down shoot is sure. They're able to get rid of blood cell, but when you're touting like, hey, we got rid of the atoms, blood cell contracts, and you go, you're the same other fucking who signed the sign and traded for those dudes. Well, now it's a party that we got rid of the contracts. You just did this. And watching drew holiday in the Olympics. Yeah. Why don't you keep your holiday? Look yourself in the mirror. You could have had drue holiday Ingram and Zion. That's exactly right. That's exactly right. I think it's honestly Griff's a nice guy, but that one of the worst GM jobs we've had in the last 15 years. I disagree with everything he's done, but he stands gone, 'cause that wasn't helping anything. That was also terrible. San Antonio spurs 29 and a half. House is this your least favorite roster? Is there another roster? This like, Mark. I can't name I could look it up and but I can't name 5 spurs right now off the top of my head. Marine white..

"I'll let's get to the pels though here at forty and a half yes. So the p- the new orleans pelicans last year they had a thirty one forty one record but they had the differential of a thirty nine win team. Over in eighty two game season they underperformed their point by the fifth. Most in the entire nba changed over their roster pretty significantly. They lost lonzo ball in that sign and trade. They traded stephen adams in eric. Bledsoe for valentinus. They brought in devante. Graham and sat randy. And gary temple and vegas thinks they're going to be better even than there the differential that they underperformed there over under is set at forty point. Five willie green is now their coach and as a stamping gundy Obviously things didn't work out. But i i mean i don't think they upgraded it coach so i thought stand did a pretty decent job with the point zion south. I assume green will continue that But y'all countered that. I think that was the biggest disagreement that i had with van gundy was that he went for the bucks style. Defensive concept without having the rim-protector that the buck the real protection that the bucks do then involved away from that a little bit. But here's the thing though. Danny like i have worse defensive personnel this year. I i wanna unis is worse than stephen adams i value. This was better than atoms last year. But i don't know that i've always it's it's i mean digress. Were able to stick it out better than i thought they were. I i mean i don't. I didn't think it was in tunis doing that. I think stephen outspoken well and you could make an interesting argument. Center is the most important defense position that like in terms of like. Let's say like rpm ep. And all those that adams took the brunt of new orleans defense being shitty and valentinus got the line share the credit of the grizzlies defense being better even though maybe to other parts like. That's a fair arguments now. You know who knows what's happening. Jackson hayes as i guess he'll be slightly improved They they don't really have any kind of a backup power forward. I guess that's going to be brandon. Ingram You know i i mean can green get ingram in zion to defend better than having their their little or maybe they'll be a little bit better But obviously devante graham and kyra lewis are a big downgrade from what lonzo ball was giving him. A at the point Josh harto be back although he missed a bunch of time down the end. Trae murphy's rookie. I think he could maybe help sadder and ski and temple. Your kenna solid system defensive. That's that they didn't have last year so happy. You say maybe they're appelt the same in terms of personnel. They were last year that's reasonable. I think it's reasonable. But i would say they're a little bit worse but i think it might fit together a little better but i think overall talent. I think there will worse. Yeah before they really started breaking out the tank like the last five games that year they actually had shown some strides under van. Gundy and were defending better. I mean there are one of the worst in the league over the first half of the year. Soap but abby. I don't see this team being a top half the league defense under almost any circumstances probably their bottom tonight. I don't see it likely that they're going to be much of a above that so Then the question becomes how. Good these guys on offense and you know that that's a question. What were they last year. Offensively twelfth overall. I think they could probably improve on that at the devante. Graham is better offensively than i think what they had a point guard a year ago he also gives them off the dribble three point shooting which is not something that they've really had either now. Cara lewis nikki logs under walker is your david griffin. Presumed porn of his beefs with bengali. Used didn't play those guys enough and or those guys now going to be playing. Are they going to be good or are they going to be pretty inefficient. I don't know you know grandma at least can shoot though at point guard which is nice I i think they should have a little bit more shooting than they did last year. Valley tunis is a offense of upgrade. I think quite a bit on adam. Yes As a finisher scr screen senator about the same. But he's he's a solid roll man hopefully he and zayn can be staggered a little bit But of zion is also controlling the ball up top. Then you can get away a little bit more playing a center. Who can't shoot date you're forgetting about. Valentinus is forced basing. Yes of course. A mutt apologies. yet unfortunately i'm not important enough for david griffin to mention that. I should put that in a tweet. Otherwise i would be seeing that as well. So take david. If you're listening please make make sure that you. Are you message me so so. I don't forget about that The next hour to discuss your team This is a tough one to forty and a half again. No i just think it always seems to go wrong somehow for these guys it just dot. The other thing we're forgetting to is. Zion was totally healthy all year. Yeah he does. He missed a missed. Eleven games last year and eleven is will Some of those were. I think he probably missed like five. At the end of the season i was right point. They were once they were done yet. Glaring competitive portion of the season. He was out there. He was out there lot. Ingram minutes to like i. I'm hopeful that he's gonna be able to just you know this is what he's going to be now healthy again but out of i want to count on that necessarily yep so the biggest argument that they go over with our to. Maybe there are some modest defensive improvements just because they were so bad a lot of last year and they improve that even over the course of the year in zion takes another step forward that point zion diabetes. He's incredible this'll be h twenty one season so like there's there could be a lot of room room. There and also the organizational incentives have been david griffin might be gm inc for his job so they need to give up some of their draft pick. Were chest to get better. I think that griffin would not hesitate to do it. However i'm gonna fall back when i'm really torn which i am on this line of this is well set one. I back on a couple of different tests a couple of different kind of concepts that we've used over the years and no runners one of them is the five games over five games under so do i think it's more likely that the pelicans win forty five or thirty..

"A good player and I think part of it, you know, you don't always want to rely on contract values as the calibrator who's actually good or not. But like Devonte Graham in a relative. They were both regions Devonte Graham got twelve million a year and Lonzo ball. Got twenty. Yeah. I think I would rather pay Lonzo twenty than Devante twelve. They also obviously get Tomas satoransky and Garrett Temple. And I don't think that both of those guys can be like, useful bench players. Like, they'll be like New Orleans seventh and eighth men this year. I would say. Yeah, no help. And having having, that stability in rotation is, is very good. That also means that tray Murphy is put in a situation because you only he'll probably only play significantly if he's doing really well. And that is, that's what you want for a, for a young guy in a lot of circumstances, especially if they're kind of worn, a complimentary Roll is dead. Get the opportunity. Make the most of it and if you don't then you're not you're not getting out out there. Getting crushed every night. Yeah, I don't think it's going to happen to him. Anyway. Yeah little tree Murphy. I think his look phenomenal. Did some really, he's looked absurd. Great. I think don't U Marshalls. Look really good at summer league as well. I would expect him to really get some substantial minutes this year as well. I did not they re-signed DD Lozada. I'm not really a d d guy. I've never totally gotten that wrong and Willy hernangomez, you know, depth inside. That's great. Although another post big, which is interesting next to Zion Williamson. Yeah. Look, I think the scene is probably better next season than they were this season, but I think it's going to be more of a function, not of the machinations of the front office, but of just guys getting better, Brandon Ingram will get better dialogue. He hit better nickeil, alexander-walker will get better, you know, whatever happens with Jackson Hayes, you know, just mentioning the fact that he seems to have a potential job. It's at some point in the future given that he was arrested. What was that two weeks ago? Something like that? Yeah, so, you know, those guys, if you know, Jackson has playing off Kyra Lewis, obviously will get better as well. Tree Murphy, I think is a really good addition and nausea Marshall get better. I think they're going to show internal development and growth and they're going to win more games next season or a higher percentage of their game because of that. But I don't think it's going to be because of what the front office did. I think the front office? Probably hamstrung them more going forward in the office with this offseason. Look over the last 18 months. We've all had these big events that we've had postponed, and we haven't gotten a chance to dress up nicely in a while. "Angle of all this. Because i think that's really interesting. They have now opened up up to thirty six million dollars cap space presumably according to reporting from mark stein and others for kyle lowry and maybe twenty five. If you include josh heart. And i think they should try to resign josh heart and i think twenty five for lower fair and might get it done. They traded two first round picks to get off this money and for rebuilding team sub optimal to do that however they have a whole crap ton of pick still coming from the lakers in the bucks they put protections on this lakers pick just in case and those are non trivial protections. We saw almost just in case scenario happen to the lakers. Last year where they ended up falling much lower in the standings then people thought and obviously they're trying to be next year's sons slash hawks where we have a transcendent young talent. We have another very good young talent. We need an organizer like chris paul or we need like we need the art chris. Paul sledge book dumbo donovan. Danilo gallinari clin cappella veteran editions. Valid shoes can be our cappella to me. This is interesting for a couple of reasons number one. Those sons hawks precedents are it's apples. It's apples to oranges to some degree. Because the sun's we saw the bubble and we could tell they were onto something. New orleans has no proof of concept yet with this team doing anything serious other than losing a whole bunch of close games in the last two minutes. Unlike the hawks they don't they have they have the transcendent young. They have their trae young. Which is i on. The hawks who i guess don't have a good player. Another good young player quite as good as ingram. But the hawks were just loaded with all of these young support guys in hunter reddish herder blah blah blah. Who were ready to take step up. I'm not sure the alexander walker. Kyra lewis group is quite at that level and the other thing is like two sons. Became a great defensive team. The pelicans have been in abysmally bad defensive team and i'm not sure what their roadmap to being an okay defensive team is so. I'm a little less optimistic that they can be next year's sons and hawks but if zion is that good i don't necessarily blame them for using one of their last remaining big cap space ships to to try gooney. What do you think of what of what they're up to here. Do you think they're overshooting. This is this like anthony. Davis point over there just rushing to fast to appease young superstar. And they're going to end up regretting it or or. Do you think this can work. I just don't think they have any choice. I mean you go through three coaches in ten months. At some point it people are going to start looking in front office and saying you know what's going on here. So there is no margin for error. Here they need to make the playoffs and be competitive in that playoff series and try to win a series if they if before this thing potentially blows up is i on williamson going to management and saying i want out of here. You know you guys. I'm not going to waste my career here with you know toiling in mediocrity so i agree with you that ideally you would like to have a slower rebuild and i would always think about bringing lonzo ball back know. I don't understand how guys twenty three years old he's younger than christie arte. Who's about to go in the lottery. He's going to be really really good for somebody next year. If i'm the pacers or you know the the hornets like i'm doing anything. I can get lonzo ball on my team next year so i just don't think that they that they have a choice of this. Just you know something that they that they have to do. These guys want to keep their jobs and keep zion town. They could definitely make a leap next season. If they gotta lowery type in as play guard they just need to figure out some kind of defensive identity and i think the offensive identity is also a little bit less clear that it will get trae young offense onto himself identities trae clink cappella boom done and we didn't even mentioned john collins who there is some optimism. Now that atlanta's going to be able to resign him. We'll see what happens after. I keep saying july first when it usually is whenever the day is and chris. Paul and devon booker. You know what the offense is. More or less going to look like in phoenix. I new orleans we went from. Oh why aren't they using zion as a ball handler to. Oh my god points. Ion is mashing people all over the floor. Okay but what's brandon. Ingram really doing while. Zion is doing stuff is he that useful. Okay now. here comes. Kyle lowry like they have some. There's a ton of talent the roadmap on both ends of the floor just isn't isn't quite as clear to me and give me like i i am. I think lonzo is one of the most interesting players in the nba. He i think we have no choice now but to believe that the three point shooting israel thirty seven point five percent two seasons ago and remember that includes the bubble where he just missed everything. And maybe you just throw that out because it was weird there was a long lay-off thirty eight percent last year on eight attempts game. His his off the dribble threes are awful. His spot up threes are great. And i've had. I've actually been surprised by the number of teams who i didn't think i mean we all know bulls-knicks all the teams that need point guards and catherine i've been surprised by the number of teams that have. Let's say lead ball handlers already. Who are wings or or bigger guards who have asked me how lonzo would fit with their team. Because they're just intrigued by the kind of the verve. He would bring to their offense like he's fun to play with. He makes the extra pass. And i've heard that he in zion are pretty tight like i'm. I'm surprised that new orleans appears ready to move on. And maybe they're not even ready to move on. Maybe lonzo is just like if kyle lowry just using this as a stalking horse. Well that's our plan would spring back. Lonzo bring back josh heart and let it roll. I i don't know schmitz what do you. What do you think of what they're up to. Well i think it's interesting looking at the player. Lonzo is now like in the pre-draft process during his draft. There are a lot of people who were questioning. Like is lonzo a point guard. You know it kinda sounded crazy at the time just because he was such a good passer and you so electric in transition and all that but looking at it now like i think they're right. You know what. I mean like he. He's like three indy utility guard. Who moves the ball can shoot and has great defensive instincts right and so you can. That's why those teams you mentioned with those. Big playmakers are intrigued by him. Because like he doesn't need to pound it fifty times. You know to have an impact. And i think that's why he's gonna look really good on like winning teams. I agree with both you. I think he's incredibly underrated Just because of the basketball q. The ball moving style. And i think the three point shooting is gonna stabilize. I mean i remember watching him at chino hills. He would pull from from forty and like knock down knockdown knockdown funky mechanics. But he's always been able to make deep threes. It's just like the consistency of it. So i i would love to have him on my team. I think he's actually a good fit with zion and then you know they're not going to turn things around with the seventeenth pick but they can still get a good player there You know you talk about like the defensive identity. I mean manga. Rubas maybe the best defender in the draft. You know He's coming out of row. Madrid obviously same club has luca completely different player. But you know. I watched him against team. Usa and he was guarding kevin durant. He was guarding jason tatum. He was guarding. jeremy grant. You know..

"Radio. So, Jeff, what is the with that in mind aside from the coaching high, and I know the coaching hire is going have a lot to do with what The answer to my question is probably going to be, But just purely in terms of the roster, the pelicans got to really good young players. And a lot of teams would love to have in Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. What is the off season look like for this team? What should the goals be for the pelicans this offseason? Well, you're right, obviously yet identify the coach and then come up with a plan that reconstruct this roster. I think last season's trade of drew holiday to Milwaukee. It ended up backfiring on the pelicans. I know why they didn't. They wanted to kind of get some more assets and drew holidays. Timeline was not on the same timeline with the rest of the roster. But the fits that they got back. Even atoms, and Eric Bledsoe does have not worked out and I think they're going to have to go back in to this, you know, Lab and try and figure out what the best Fits are around Zion winds and the fact that they play the offense through him. Now he's point Zion. They've got to find shooters, one of them They were one of the worst shooting teams in the league, and you just can't have that. In today's NBA game. You've got to have people that can fill it up from outside, So I think wing players In the veteran free agent market on the trade market. And then, of course, they have a upcoming lottery pick that they can also add to their young arsenal. They've got some young talent, Sean. Besides Ingram. I mean, they like the development of Jackson Hayes and McKeel. Alexander Walker, Kyra Lewis from a year ago there topic There's some pieces there. There's some talent, but it just hasn't quite fit right with the current makeup. We haven't even brought up the name Lonzo Ball, which, like two years ago would have been crazy because we probably have been talking about his dad by now. But LeVar is kind of disappeared a little bit. What about Lonzo Ball? What's his future with the organization? Well, I think it's very much up in the air along with Josh hard, another restricted free agent. I think that will be determined by the new coach. The new coaching regime in conjunction with David Griffin. I think there's a good chance that he does come back. Because Zion Williamson Brandon Ingram enjoy playing with him, but he's going to be very expensive. And if you're looking long term, I think that could be the question for David Griffin, can they afford to bring Lonzo ball back? At his price tag. When you know you're going to end up playing paying Diane Williamson and Brandon Ingram major deals here in the future, Yeah, you know, and we're talking to Jeff Duncan of the athletic covers the pelicans. I guess, Jeff before I before I let you go. Just you and I kind of talking this whole thing through in the names are getting thrown around. I mean, when you think about what the pelicans Have done the last few off seasons trading or trading Anthony Davis, one of the best players in the league trading drew holiday, a really good point guard. There's a lot of stuff on that Russia I mean, they they've landed, you know, with their bread kind of jelly up, even though they're not a playoff team right now. It really feels when we rattle off the names of some of these young players, especially Zion and in, uh Brandon Ingram, obviously That there should be a lot of optimism is is there a lot of optimism surrounding this team if they get this coaching hire right? I think there's a lot of cautious, almost show me optimism, you know? I mean, if that makes any sense, Shawn, I think fans of then promised so much here. Obviously, they loved the development of Zion Williamson. I mean, he was putting up unprecedented numbers last season in this is second year. He's only 20 years old. So there's a lot of reason for optimism around Zion. They've been. I think disappointed the fan base so many times here and promised that things were going to turn around, and I think they're afraid that go all in right now until they see Exactly. You know, some winds on the court because it's always it feels like hope. This promise here and it never materializes. Yeah. Is there concern long term with Zion just over body type and things like that? I've heard a lot of that. But the pelicans invested. Heavily in their training staff. Aaron Nelson, the head of their medical team, here is one of the best the most respected in the league. And I think they feel like they've got a good bead on him. You're you're very much right, though I mean he is a unique Physical specimen. David Griffin likes to call him a a population of one. We really haven't seen another player like this in the NBA with his explosiveness and frame. And so that's something that he's always going to have to stay on Top of. I expect him to come back next season in elite conditioning. He really hasn't been in top shape because of the injuries since he's been in the league, and I think if he does that We could see him take it to a whole another level in the future. Yeah, And I would imagine the last offseason was I mean, it was hard for anybody to do anything because of the pandemic so that that that could be something for sure. To keep an eye Xeon with a full normal off season without a pandemic would be something to keep an eye on. No doubt about that. Jeff Duncan, the athletic covers New Orleans pelicans, Jeff really appreciate you making time and enjoy the offseason. Enjoy the rest of the playoffs, and I hope to talk to you again. Down the road. Thank you. Yeah. Thanks for having me on shine. Have a great weekend. Take care. Thanks, Jeff. Appreciate it. Jeff Duncan joining me here on CBS Sports Radio. I would say the closest thing I can think of for Zion like if I'm making a comp. Any population of one is a really good way to put it. He's a very unique player. And maybe this just goes to illustrate how unique he is, is that I almost feel like I got to go back to like pre Phoenix, Charles Barkley. Like early in the early in his NBA career. Charles Barkley round Mound of Rebound Charles Barkley, who was he was fat when he got into the NBA, but he was crazy explosive. And then he got into a a normal weight program, and he got into a, uh, better nutrition. Even though he was living in a city where you can find a cheese steak on every corner, he managed to slim down..

What's going on with the New Orleans Pelicans?

"This year's deputy f team the new orleans pelicans. I don't know what baker this team you can catch them on any given night and it's a completely different experience than the last night. I don't know if the players make sense together. Actually i'm pretty sure they don't. I don't really know what the overall philosophy is. I don't know if they're trying to be a playoff team if they're trying to be rebuilding. I'm just constantly confused and there are some optimism because they want a couple of games around people here they go here. Zion and then they get killed last night by the bulls and have one hundred thousand breakdowns. And i guess my first question to you is the pelicans what the fuck you. How many exclamation points can we tack onto that. Wt fd think. But i was hoping you could answer this question. Because i think you're spot on in that it's so much depends your view of this team on when you catch them even just like what stage in the season. You caught them because for a minute. It looked like they were going to live up to their personnel and be a tough minded offensive team. Scrounging out offensive rebounds to get points and just kinda struggling on that in because they're spacing issues the script has completely flipped. And now this is all of a sudden very competent offense. I think park has really driven by brandon. Ingram is i ion williamson. They're making that part of it work but the defense. Jesus christ i mean it is. There is inconsistent defensively as really any team out there. Yeah i would say other than brooklyn. It's the team that's most likely to give up one hundred forty on any given night to any team. That knows what they're doing. I so if you actually look at their stats and you haven't been watching that much and you look at the stats and you look at williamson in ingram and all right. Those guys are having good years pretty efficient. And then you look at lonzo and you look at bledsoe. Lonzo shoot thirty seven percent from three so she and forty percent so going into the season like well. Their guards can't shoot. They're not going to be able to have enough space. Well their guards are actually shooting. Okay but then. When i watch everybody together. I don't have a five-man line-up that i liked like yesterday. They're playing Kyra lewis with He he got a little more run and he's really interesting. Rookies really fast. He's little darren foxy and gave them an energy that i was like. Well maybe this. Maybe i would like this version of the pelicans more. If fast you know now unleash sign a little bed. Go up and down a little bit more. But i still don't know who the other two teammates would be with cairo. Lewis design and branding. And i guess the fundamental question for me is do zion and brandon. Ingram makes sense together on a team. That's actually trying to win the title. I think they make sense on offense but the question was i on really broadly. As who are you going to put the five that's gonna make up for all. He doesn't do defensively right now. That's always been my issue with the idea of playing small and we are putting him at the five his rotations is. Aren't there really the pelicans as a team. If i were an opposing coach. I would say this is a team. We can beat him rotation every they are. Pass away from defensive breakdown every time out on the floor and keep moving the ball. You keep doing what you're supposed to do they will they will mess up in a whether it's undersized guy in the corner doesn't quite rotate over all the way. Jj radic or josh. Hart they try hard. They do what they can. But they're not equipped to be helped rotation defenders. If a guy like zion isn't going to be one so i mean i'm i'm kinda bullish on the anger rooms ion depot in general but i am really struggling to see how you put together those lineups. I can see how they kind of got into this conundrum where they clearly wanted to have some veterans early. Some veterans fell into their lap in terms of what was available and trying to get some pics and make their other moves but long term. It's a weird team to build with. And then you get lonzo into this conversation to and what they want to do with him. It's it's kind of messy.
