"Of the Boeing here. There was for the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reaction pretty makes so far the cardinals selecting a quarterback with their first round pick one year after selecting a quarterback with their first round pick. Here's how head coach cliff. Chris bury said he knew that Kylie Murray was the right guy. I don't know if there's anything specific. But just talking though, you coaches, obviously, no Lincoln very well. And hearing the impact he had on that program and the way handled things, you know, sitting behind one of the most prolific players in the history of college football, and and just waiting time and being a leader and doing things, right? That spoke volumes for the young, man. He is the guys Heisman Trophy winner. So the best player in college football. Also, not only the number one pick in the NFL draft the number one pick in major league baseball draft. He said, by the way that he's going to stick with football. Just in case anybody's where he's gonna go play for the Oakland A's instead of stayed around for the cardinals. Obviously cardinals are going to talk. Them up though, since they're the ones who drafted him. But what about the analysts? Here's Ron woolfe ly- the NFL's most colorful color analyst from ninety eight seven FM Arizona's sport's station. And what he told us this morning. There's a lot of people out there that are looking at this with a jaundice eye, and I understand why I do the desperation that is here. But when this kid if he likes it up the way that he's capable of lighting it up. I think people are gonna forget about that quickly. And then there's Will's colleague Vince Miranda with and Murata. He's in Nashville for the draft told us yesterday he thinks the cardinals should not draft Murray and stick with Josh Rosen. But today, here's what Vincent one of the things that I love about his game is it's been very rare in cardinals history to have a quarterback with the ability to demoralized. That's the term. I use demoralized defense by making plays with his legs. And Kyla Murray might already be one of the best ever to do that. Please. Please. Please, please. Can you do that? Could he demoralized other defenses especially everybody in the NFC? West please. By the way, our own Paul Calvi. See was the first local guy to interview Cuyler Murray and did Soviet satellite hook up at the cardinals draft party last night. He will join us in less than ten.

"Okay. He's almost as scary as this judge in your home state by God, what is up with this? What a travesty? This is a the prosecutors say these are federal prosecutors right way new district court judge whereas Newton district near it was Newt Messner. You're very wealthy town just outside of Boston Shelley m Richmond Joseph Bush, go a lot of names too, many names, along with another court officer helped an illegal alien Jose, Medina Peres geek out of the courthouse to the back door while an ice agent waited in the lobby. Are you kidding me? You go that way they have courtroom. Now how stupid today there in the courtroom? There's everything's taped in the courtroom. So they never did think on audio of these two talking about how they're planning to help this guy escaped. Did they not think they were going to get caught? I guess or are they think they're above the law. I guess she's been charged with obstruction of Justice aiding and abetting and a bunch of other charges. Indicted by a federal grand jury issued go to prison. For a while. I what is wrong with these people. I mean, you got her. You've got the California mayor who was to sorry. The Oakland Marya telling illegal aliens. Yeah. When he says coming right? You got this judge opening up the back door, but you know, what a on either coast. And if this had happened in California say, yeah. Par for the course, that's Massachusetts though. I know Massachusetts is pretty liberal. But still how as a judge. How do you do that? I see your bud the law as you said, she should go to jail issue. Really a long time. I think she'll be going to jail for a while. I'm believable. It's kind of an outrage. It really is. Well, don't forget about this. Now, we have the NFL draft last night. You know, what I actually watched the beginning of I knew you'd be locked in. No, it was purely by mistake. Channels couldn't find the remote. Hit the wrong button. On sudden, I thought it was like a concert 'cause when I turned it on all I saw was that the camera was I guess on a drone, and it was flying from the back of where these people were standing to the stage. But there wasn't anything on the stage. And then all of a sudden for the big NFL thing. And I went oh my God look at these people should have the draft in Nashville every single year right down Broadway in Nashville. That's where the clubs restaurants are with. There was about a hundred fifty thousand all my God. I was like a Taylor swift concert. It was like oh my God. Look at this. I would like to congratulate the fine people of Nashville and everybody else who came into town to do the right thing until the ginger menace. What you really think of him Goodell? They were booing everytime. He got up there. Thank god. And I'm fortunately the first time. They booed him of at least what I saw was when he was giving away those this season tickets for life for a hundred years or whatever it was they had the three finalists on stage. But you couldn't hear what they say. Because people are pulling I was like get this guy off the stage schist everybody him. So that kid that he's a little guy that the guy that went I that Kylie Murray is very small, but he was also didn't he get picked by like baseball. He's gone with baseball with football. All right. What he loves dolphins. Have you didn't hear this by the way, they get Christian Wilkins crepe pick, by the way defensive tackle from? Clemson. They call it a safe pick. But if you build in the trenches retainer, that's what you do. Okay. He over there up to four wins down your prediction count. They will get close to four with. That's right. The missing the best story the highest states, Nick, boss. Oh, went number to Saint Thomas acquaintance, man, brother local down here. NBA Draft 2019: Latest 1st-Round Order, Predictions
"And ladies and gentlemen, we have a new mock draft out Mel kiper Jr's three point. Oh is here with us. And we are looking forward to the draft. Mel will join us in just about an hour to talk about the new mock draft. But there have been some changes in the draft specifically one less quarterback. Now going in the first round then in mel's two point oh mock draft. So we have four in the two point oh mock draft with Daniel Jones from Duke rounding out of the last pick of the draft to the patriots in the first round of thirty two. There are only three quarterbacks now in the first round, according to mel's latest mock. And obviously a retirement might be a big reason why and the quarterbacks have changed as well. Right. As far as where they're they're going. Well, Cuyler he still has Tyler going number one derozan. Well in his last draft Cuyler going number thirteen to the dolphins. So now and this draft he hasn't going number one. He had. Dwayne Haskins going number six at a giant Kyle Murray. Going number thirteen to the to the dolphins. Drew lock going fifteen to the Redskins and Daniel Jones going thirty two to the patriots. So as you mentioned Daniel Jones now out of the first round, according to the latest mock draft by Mel kiper, just three quarterbacks Murray number one. The main says Dwayne Haskins at number six, and you start to hear reports that the giants may go defense was six and then was seventeen go quarterback. But right now twain Haskins at six and then drew lock sitting there at number thirteen for the dolphins. Does the only three quarterbacks in this latest first round. Yeah. Going to be very interesting because we know what the giants listen one thing. Dave Gettleman has made very clear he does not feel beholden to tell us his plan. And so I don't feel overly beholden to believe. A lot of what we're hearing coming out of the giants can't because if you've got a guy who's basic messages trust me, I got this. Well, then we understand he doesn't feel like he has to tell us the truth. So as we hear these things. Coming out. We also understand this time of year is about deception to an extent it's trying to manipulate the draft order trying to manipulate the opinions of certain players. So that you can try and put yourself in the best position to get the guys you ultimately want. So it makes it difficult to try and read the tea leaves it is although I have to say on cattlemans behalf. He said all of last spring saquon Barkley is a generational talent with the second overall pick. And that's where he went. Look, I think we all agreed. There has to be a quarterback in the giants future. Whether it's at six or seventeen trade now Cleveland, but it would not surprise me in the least if Dave Gettleman waited until the second or third round to take a quarterback this Dave Gettleman, he created that created, but he he made the term a more of a vernacular in the NFL draft hog molly's when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. He loves the big guys to hog mollies. And let's be honest. This draft is going to be decided outside of Kyla Murray. More than anything else about the big defensive lineman in this draft. The hog Molly is on the defensive side of the ball. So depending on your draft grades for your quarterbacks you could take one of those at six and then a quarterback at seventeen it all depends again on your on your draft great. If twain Haskins is highest on the board and draft grades. You don't pass that up. If you have a Dwayne Haskins drew lock. And whatever other quarterback equal in grades. You know, maybe use that seventeen pick baby can trade it up somehow to get one of those guys as I said, this always comes down to grades. Do. You have a choice amongst grades. Are you close enough in quarterbacks where if you don't get one you try and get the other? But we'll see we'll see, you know, one of the biggest changes in from the last two this for Mel was they had the patriots taken Daniel Jones a quarterback, and this one I serve Smith junior the tight end from Alabama going, and that would not be shocking at all you have really three out of the top tight end Hopkinson the kid from Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, and then Smith junior all three likely to go in the first round a three first round tight end to on the same team come on. And what would that tell you as we saw? The patriots jump into the first round and take a running back and Sony Michelle at the end of that. And now to see in the next year three tight ends going. We've talked about this. However, you want to split it. Last year were Quinton Nelson. Went in the top ten in the draft as an offensive guard. We saw roquan Smith going the top ten as a middle linebacker. The middle of the field is worthy. NFL is being built right now. And other teams are starting to catch up to what the patriots have done for years. The way that we've seen teams export that specific area and three tight ends in the first round would hammer that home not denying that. They are guys that are certainly probably more talented than usual tight end groups. We're used to seeing but it's also about value. It's why you see running back taking it to overall by the giants last year. I mean, the other thing is I think they're more interior linemen in this first round then quarterbacks right? Like, a not tackles guards and centers. There are more of those according to males latest mock than there are actual quarterbacks being taken which would be very unusual. So the top five in this new draft that Mel kiper put out is Kylie Murray. Number one of the cardinals Nick both the D N number two to the forty Niners. Number three. Josh Allen the outside backing backer pass rusher going to the jet number four Cornyn Williams. To the raiders and number five guy making a pretty big jump. Devon white going to Tampa Bay at five in the last mock draft he was number eleven to the Bengals now in mel's draft. He is sitting at number five number six twain Haskins seven Joon Taylor. The offense attack from Florida going to Jacksonville sweat, the D N going to the lions at eight Sean, Gary the D N going into the bills from Michigan and TJ Hopkinson. The tight end going to the Broncos at number ten. Here's here's what I wanted to talk to Mel about and one of the issues that I have laid on me big fella with with this draft comes, you know, some some point and one of them is there are few prospects in new first round projection who are making their debuts because of their combine performances. There are four guys who have jumped into mel's first round who weren't out there before again based on the combine combine performances. I don't understand that. I don't I don't understand that. If you wanna say. You looked at the combine to go back and look at tape of them. But to say, they're combine performance jumped them up that doesn't compute to me. Well, I think that's I think that's the assumption though, is because of their performance you went back and look and that. That's fair. That's why I want to ask them. How did this? Make you go back and study them more. Because if you're just basing things off the combine I got a real issue with that. Yeah. I I don't think you would do that or teams. But at the same time, you look at the positions of the majority of the players that would be involved in that. And I think this could be true for teams as well. It's interior offense. It is right. Three interior offensive linemen Terry McLaren the wide receiver, but when it comes to interior offensive lineman. You wanna talk about an area where the scouting grossly lags behind to actually great and overall draft. It's a difficult area for a lot of people to see and understand because you don't have the benefit of a lot of stats. You don't have the benefit of even the combine members necessarily always translating to production. So when those guys go and they paying and they flag in the model somewhere for what they do at the combine. And then you go back and spend some more time looking at a guy like Lindstrom who wasn't going to be a big name. He wasn't like, you know, Gary bradberry from North Carolina State won the Remington award this year. Like that guy was a stud Boston College was a middling. Okay. ACC team this year. So Lindstrom wasn't getting the credit. He deserved even being as good as he is. So you go back now, and even these NFL teams, maybe we're late to the party on some of these guys all of a sudden start giving them an extra. That's why I want to ask I just wanna make sure with Mel that because I'm just reading from the combine performance, and again, let's put a name. To those you mentioned McLaren the wide receiver who is one of the others. Chris Lynch reminder, you just mentioned from Boston College now. Number twenty one to Seattle Eric McCoy interior linemen going number twenty two to Baltimore. Right and the Garrett bradberry. The Senator from North Carolina State who is you mentioned one the Remington award is the best center in the country number thirty one to the LA Rams where they have an aging center, and John John Sullivan. And that was that was one of the things have been saying for the Rams the last couple of years that dynasties been built on the interior. If you land a guy like that good, Lord or you winning out it is. So we'll see how that plays out. Now, the one thing that I find interesting he he has drew lock the third quarterback Mel dozen his latest mock going thirteen in Miami. I'm telling you don't take out Denver at ten in Cincinnati of eleven in play for quarterbacks. I mean. Yeah. Denver made the play for Joe flacco. But John Elway has messed this up a couple of times with all due respect. I mean, that's just outside of getting Peyton Manning. He has not figured out the quarterback spot there at ten they might be in play for quarterback. And you have Andy Dalton with his situation with the Bengals and his contract situation. I, you know, I think that there's a really good chance that they could be in play with a quarterback there, by the way, by the way, Mel kiper Jr's mock draft not the biggest item related to the draft this week. That will have news for you guys. What more on that coming up later? This week

"And. It's crazy to me that they're not it feels like in Los Angeles. I know you're saying on your show where you're you have smart people who are criticizing the right, FOX. But when I walk around, Los Angeles, Lakers fans, LeBron LeBron how could LeBron do this. Lebron what a disappointment. And it just it seems incredibly unfair to me. It sounds like you wanna do a blame pot. So we can do that we can blame pie. Plus I wanna get into this kind of Murray. Charley Casserly thing with you. Because you are an NFL savant. And I feel like I smell something fishy. So we'll talk about that coming up next to out Saddam show. ESPN LA sit down show here on ESPN LA times hanging out with us today. All right. So we'll get back to the Lakers in a second. Okay. I wanna hear your blame pie in just a moment. But this Charley Casserly kinda Murray is interesting because there are people who are siding with Casserly saying that. Yes, there are these reports out there that Kylie Murray was not good interviews. He bombed interviews he bombed on the whiteboard or whatever when he's drawing up plays. And then there are people who are adamantly against it on the other side saying that's not true that this is just potentially subterfuge that it could be just the one team that this isn't necessarily a thing with multiple teams where do you lie on all of this? You know, what actually before I get your answer? Let's hear Casserly. First. Let's hear the comment that started all of this set it on the NFL network with Andrew Sicilian. Let's your Casserly. Well, he backhoe Kingsbury takes them number one. Because this was not good. This was the worst comments. I ever got on a high rate a quarter manually doing this a long time. Yes leadership. Not good case. Study habits not good the board work below night. Good night. Good at on any of those areas. See and grazing major concerns about what this guy's gonna do. Now. People say, well, we're going to compare them to Mahomes, we're going to run an offense like well homes. We're gonna run it off. Offense. Like Baker Mayfield. It is possible. But those guys are much different. I mean, those guys you'd have a question about their ability on the board you never questioned their leadership ability their work habits. They were outstanding in those areas. This guy's not outstanding those areas it showed up in the interview. All right. So Charley Casserly longtime GM. Most recently with the Texans. He had a stint with the Redskins. I believe as well. So what do you make of all of this? It's that time of the year..

"Missed from. The Doug Gottlieb show camera has a chance to be the number one pick in the NFL draft. And how we evaluate the number one pick is different than any other pets, especially at third round. So if I were to tell you that Kylie Murray comes into the National Football League and this year with the Arizona Cardinals clip Kingsbury as their head coach he has nine games of less than two hundred yards passing. He has zero games of three hundred yards passing would Cuyler Murray. Live up to the expectations in hype of being the number one overall pick. What in his second season? He had just two three hundred yard passing games and six games below two hundred dollars. Would you say that he was a good quarterback to be taken number one overall? Of course, not. That's a Russell Wilson. See Russel Wilson. Yes. He's become a very good. Maybe great quarterback in the national football. But he walked into a deal where the head the legion of boom not yet in their prime. They had a great running game of good offensive line. And he didn't have to do anything other than hand off the ball and occasionally struggle and complete a pass on third down the diminutive outlier quarterback. That's become a star in Seattle that Callard has moving on what to the giants in a year or two or something because his wife doesn't like Seattle. That's what happened is that our view of him is skewed because we're looking at him now and not understanding the context of where he was taken and how he was protected. Give cholera goes the cardinals. They had no offensive line. None. That's one of the reasons. Josh Rosen was bad last year and the expectations in that system is going to be the throw it all the time. 'cause that's what quarterbacks do that's clippings varies going to do to get the rest of what Doug said podcast searching the Doug godly show. And as always you can hear the Doug Gottlieb show. Weekdays at three eastern new Pacific right here on walks. Sports radio. "But I think it's a double edged sword Mun like you had that aspect of it were euro first time head coach in your with a bunch of guys that you work with in the past presumably, you're establishing workplace where you know, you're in the thority which challenge that much deserves running guys trust in hopefully there, you know. The they're going to be in a position where not only does he trust these guys they tell them the truth and to in order for him to make the most decision. He's gonna rely on on the love their input. But also the same time when you are the young for time head coach, then you're going to be one surrounded with guys too comfortable that you know, are going to buy into what what you're building as far as culture goes as far as the system goes. So I think kind of works both ways, and you kind of Kevin take the good with the bad me personally. There was some hires. That was really questioning is this guy. Just hiring him not based on his qualifications. But just with pass associations with them. Turn the guy six out to me most with that. But at the same time, I think there are some benefits with it. And is kinda just something that you got the you got to take with the bat against. Yeah. And it I mean that's kind of where I'm at with it as well. I I I see it and I go well young coach first time head coach. He's gotta have guys that he trusts in the room. He's gotta have guys who he thinks number one will be on the same page as him number. Number two, run the systems that he is familiar with and he wants to run and number three just having guys in the room that will give it to him real about certain players certain situations. Now, I spent brings out what what happens is when you when you bring in a bunch of guys to work under you that you're comfortable with there. There's the possibility of. Yeah. I mean, you're going to run stuff that everybody's on the same page in you know, it should be a potentially a well oiled machine, but you run the risk of just hiring. And I think this is maybe we're Spencer's coming from you run the risk. Maybe hiring a bunch of. Yes men. And I I don't that would not be good. And I not to say that everybody needs to call out. Zack Taylor anything like that. But if he's just kind of saying these things in dictating these certain things, obviously, he's the boss, but you know, I I'd like to think that he's hired guys to not really push back. But at least give there. Two cents and make it a valuable piece of two cents in you know, the other facet Spencer that I think goes into this all is the the carousel of the defensive coordinator situation. I think that has kind of turned a lot of people. Say turned a lot of people off. But it is the the positivity a lot of that has kind of dissipated when you're now six or seven coordinators down the pecking order at least, according to reports. Yeah. Well, thanks for calling again this week Spencer appreciated make make it a habit, buddy. Tippety? Yeah. Take it easy. Spencer paulhamus on the on the phone line there. We had another question from good friend Carlos Andrei. Oh, boy, I saw this one. Say it's a good one. But it's. Trading for Josh Rosen. I mean. There's talk that the cardinals are going to be hammered with Kylie Murray because of cliff Kingsbury and Steve time that GM they really liked Cuyler Murray. And even though you know, this is a new coach and even though last year's regime brought in Rosen. You know, they made move on. And try dangle Rosen out there for trade Rosen did not have a good rookie season. But that team was awful hot garbage. Yeah. So I guess your thoughts. Let's start with this. Your your thoughts last year on Rosen as a pro 'cause I didn't you were with us last year when we were kind of talking about some of these guys. So I'd like to get your thoughts on Rosen's professional outlook based on tape. You watch to him in things you saw about I didn't watch ton of Arizona..

I want a team. That's there. That's been there. Because it's a big game. I want to rely on you. By the way, we replayed play called Buckhead. This time we through the flag on the play. So I don't know if it's any solace to saints fans. Yes. Paulie completely fixed John's over he's able to move past that Brian Urlacher also stopped by we gave him an opportunity to erase one of the more embarrassing moments of his career when Tom Brady juked him in an open field and paulie played the role of Tom Brady. And I think he exercised his team. It's a little bit there earlier, very nice guy. He gave me a little pop. More of like, a gentle hug and rock me to the ground is very nice guy. Saquon Barkley pops you pretty good saquon kind. Did this shiver thing takes his hands and jams them under your armpit? Yeah. And I now have to circular purple marks armpit areas.

"The time is now seven forty five. It's morning edition from NPR news. I'm Steve Inskeep. And I'm David Greene. Kyla Murray can certainly play baseball. In fact, he was a top ten draft pick by the Oakland A's back in June. But he can also play football pretty well. He just completed a season as quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners and he won the Heisman Trophy. So what do you do if you're in his position to pursue baseball or football? Well yesterday Murray announced that he is filing paperwork to enter the NFL draft. And to talk about what that means for him. And both of these sports turn to Jeff passan who has been following his decision making process for ESPN. He joins us on Skype. Good morning. Jeff. Good morning, David. How are you? I'm good fascinating story of of this athlete. If he's if Murray's entering the NFL draft does that mean baseball's off the table for him. Not necessarily in that is the confusing in fascinating part of this whole story. The Oakland A's drafted Kyla Murray with the ninth pick last year and gave him a signing bonus of four point six six million dollars. And there is one caveat that he could go back to Oklahoma and play football for one year. It was almost like a parting gift for him. And the as thought that he was going to have fun at Oklahoma. And maybe throw a few touchdowns and be back in spring training and a fulltime baseball player the next year. Well, Cuyler Murray went out and had one of the statistically greatest seasons in college football chosen wins the Heisman Trophy, which makes everything. Harder. And suddenly now NFL teams are interested in throwing first round grades and potentially guaranteeing him even more money than he would have been making baseball. So you say baseball not off the table. Does. That mean, I mean, he he could be like a Bo Jackson Dion Sanders and actually play both of these sports professionally. I desperately wished that were the case as a child of the eighties who grew up worshipping. Bo Jackson and loving Dion. Sanders. I'm with the the rigors of quarterbacking in two thousand nineteen and the fact that coaches want you to be in the film room, all the time and learning playbook. It's just not realistic to think that Kylie Murray could be a quarterback in the NFL and a center fielder in baseball. Now that being said could he potentially place a minor league baseball in the off season in play football year? I want it to be true. I really do the the big question with Tyler Murray, though. It's not which does he choose. It's can he be successful in either. He has not played baseball barely at all since going to college. And the problem in the drawback with him in football. And the reason people are questioning his ability there. Kinda Murray is only five foot nine we haven't seen a quarterback that short in the NFL since Doug Flutie. So he's no sure thing in football either. Does this story? Tell us anything larger about sports in this moment. Yeah. That you don't have to specialize in. And this is something near and dear to my heart. "Going to be a little was he gonna fit better because it was New York, and that stuff will be a little more K. Like was that going to do it because I look around to the rest of the names on this? Listen, I'm not sure was Vic Fangio excite jets fans. Was that going to be the one where you looked and said, yeah. Because of the recent Vic Fangio's a guy that's been doing it in the NFL and a high level for a while. And I feel like it's now just getting this glove because the bears defense was that good this last year. Bruce Arians coming back. I I don't know. I'm looking at that one seems like the only one that I could say because Matt leflore like you would have looked at him and what he did in Tennessee and probably not been overly impressed. Eight eight seven two nine three seven seven six. It's first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. A situation that is getting increasingly more interesting to me is Kylie Murray. And what's going on? With his choice between baseball and football Cuyler Murray, the Oklahoma Heisman winning quarterback from this season was a part of their birth in the college football playoff Cuyler Murray. Has made it clear now that he is entering the twenty nineteen NFL draft now on the surface. You hear that and say decision made Cuyler Murray had to choose to enter the draft. He was an underclassmen the Oakland A's the team in major league baseball that drafted Cuyler Murray in the top ten of the major league baseball draft still expects him to show up for spring training at the end of February. But Cuyler Marie at least giving himself the option at this point. And that's become the fascinating bit of this. Is that Kylie Murray taking the option seems to keep falling in line with all these reports here in that he is more and more interested in the possibility of playing football that he is more and more open to this idea. Trying to stick it out. And seeing now that he's got the bug. Maybe I I don't know. What's changed for a kid that came into the season four million dollars richer because his baseball prowess landed him that high in the draft in a sport that is going to do considerably less damage to your body overall and one that physically quite frankly, his makeup is more built for at this point. But then we go through the season in the production is unbelievable. And he is a sensation in college football. And he is the electrifying driver of an offense that puts up unbelievable numbers that ultimately nets him with the Heisman Trophy. And so now. Kylo Murray who tied McShane Mel kiper said could be a first round pick. And Chris Mortensen are ESPN NFL reporter said Wednesday that was getting first round feedback regarding the NFL. Keeping an open mind about this, which I can understand like I can understand keeping an open mind up until a certain point baseball for anyone who's played football. The overwhelming feeling has always been man. But yet that baseball money fully guaranteed. You're doing a lot less damage like see Jeff's Marga, former Notre Dame wide receiver who made that decision many moons ago and seem better for it. Jeff passan are ESPN major league baseball insider went on sportscenter yesterday. To talk about the big questions surrounding Cuyler Murray's future. Now will an NFL team. Choose him in the first round will they guarantee him that eight plus million dollars and really entice them to play a sport that a lot of people who know Cuyler Murray expect him to love more than they do baseball. And and if they give him that possibility is he going to just not be able to turn it down. That's the big question with him four point six six million dollars is a lot of money to turn your back on. But if if you have a sport that you love like he does football potentially more than baseball. Can't he turn away from it? That's the question at this point. And quite frankly, if you're doing the math on that one what he could make on a first round fell contract as a quarterback fully guaranteed. Is pretty substantial. And if you're doing the math on that could the risk be worth that understanding the other side of that is injury. And all these things that are uncertain as would still hold his baseball rights, even if you did want to try football. I there's something I can't seem to get over there. But it's not my life. It's his and I'm getting more and more inclined to believe the Kyla Murray is probably going to pick the NFL like we keep hearing a lot of smoke eventually. And I know I'm borrowing a metaphor from our friend will Cain. We might have to acknowledge that there's a fire in this building. Eight eight eight seven two nine three seven seven six. Do. You wanna make a call coming up next. Is there one glaring omission and the recent NFL hires? We'll get into that next first and last year on ESPN radio and the ESPN app..

"With the front office of the Cebu? Now are the head coach of you can. Probably would be the best move. Maybe wanna think about trading back. And then there's that whole Josh Rosen. Obviously you made these comments back in October. And then the confluence of events since then have actually made it to where that could be reality. Now Kylie Murray's now number one overall. I don't care how desperate teams are for quarterbacks. And how shady this crop of quarterbacks is this year. But it is interesting that he did show such a a level of excitement and passionate. I mean, you know, big guys looking out for each other. But there is you know, for every guy that has come out in had success out of the big twelve. I mean, you think about you know, in Cleveland this year, what they were able to do you got a lot of flameouts and a lot of guys that didn't do a damn thing at the NFL level. But I mean, the reality is, that's that's just life. And that's what I was really alluding to in the last segment so much of this is where you get drafted. You know, who the head coach is what system is in place in what are the expectations. Are do. You have time. Time to grow. Can you have a season where you go out there and go to and twelve is a starter? When you take over in week three and throw twice as many picks. You do touchdown. Are you afforded that at time to grow and learn and mature and Cuyler Murray? Look he's Heisman Trophy winner. Clearly, he's got a passion for the game of football in has that passionate accelerated since winning Heisman Trophy does. You know, maybe, you know, young people are impressionable and keep in mind too. I think to that end. This is worth considering like he just finished playing his last football game. Right. Like, they losing the semi-final place. Pretty damn well, the football juices are still flowing, and it's still so fresh into playing baseball aliens, we playing football year and people have been asking about football all year any college football's ultimate prize just a couple of short weeks ago. So would it be fair to say that football might be closer to the front of his mind and baseball right now? I think it's probably safe to say is it also safe to say the young people can be kind of impulsive that's safe to say. Now Kyle Murray seems like a pretty buttoned up young, man. But really, what's what's important to him? I mean, look some people they just wanna be happy. Okay. And let's face it. What's the difference between one hundred million dollars in in thirty million dollars seventy million dollars? That's a lot of money. But my point is if you have thirty million dollars, you know, worrying about wearing next Meal's coming from mom and dad are fed. Everybody's good. So I don't think for some people the need to make all the money in the world is the most pressing thing. It's more about doing what you love in doing. What makes you happy and maybe collar Marie enjoys playing football more. I got news for you. He could be a hell of a baseball player and Marcus put together the list of like, the two sport athletes that were drafted by both leagues and the majority of these guys chose football. Bo Jackson, probably should have stopped the baseball rout. Amino. The hip condition was unfortunate with Bo. Dion Sanders was able to do both. But clearly ended up being a better football player. Russell wilson. He was drafted the forty first round. And then in two thousand seven obviously in two thousand ten was a fourth round pick by the Rockies safety say football is the best round for him. But Johnny Menzel remember that he was drafted in the twentieth round by the Padres and fourteen twenty second overall by the Browns. Clearly, he's continued to pursue the football route Jameis Winston, I mean, you're the number one overall pick football Tibo football, flamed out. Now, he's trying to play baseball. Maybe too little too late. Call capital football. Brandon Weeden football. Matt Cassel football. Eric decker football. Kyle long football the guys could've played hoop. Tony Gonzalez Antonio. Gates, Jimmy Graham, all of them chose football, Julius peppers chose football. The really the one guy that chose baseball is Jeff some margin. And for just the Marga. He wasn't projected being kind of a high pick was going to be you know, maybe a tight end slash wide receiver. I mean, you know, who knows I mean, he was a baller in college. Don't get it twisted. But the Jephson Marga was going to be, you know, make a big time paydays at the NFL level. Certainly not anything close to what he can make playing major league baseball. What's up DJ? Well, I think a couple of other examples are Kirk Gibson. He was an all American football player told the Saint Louis cardinals don't draft 'em in football. So of course, they did he went out for a senior year baseball. And then he went off to play. Dave Winfield was drafted in three. Yup. Three sports. I that's that's got to be something that never gets touched again. Yeah. I mean, a lot of them make the wrong choice. But I mean like guys down at Stanford. Chad Hutchinson there Chad Hutchins, he was a quarterback Chad Hutchinson. Played for the Cowboys. Right. And then he also pitched in the I don't know if he made it to the show or not. But sometimes, you know, you if you don't pick one or, you know, really focusing. Listen. Yeah. And if you're not good at one. Just don't get that second one. Yeah. And I I don't think I mean, remember what you know, what distraction that was for Dion Sanders trying to do both. And that was more about him trying to sell the the prime time brand, look, especially with the amount of money teams are investing these days. I don't think it's too much to ask any player. I don't care who they are. You gotta give me your undivided attention. You know what I'm saying? Like, if you're the Okinawa's sorry Cuyler Murray, you you gotta choose and if he chooses baseball, great, they will have a nice career. I make a lot of money could do a lot to you know, maybe bring back the African American influence in major league baseball. I mean, just look at the numbers, man. They're they're down every year. And he could be a terrific conduit towards maybe bringing some of those numbers back up. Football's the national pastime, though, I mean, let's be real look at the ratings people won't football in Kyla Murray. Hey, like, I said he's riding high right now Heisman Trophy garner and all this interest and he could play now. What are we also know about young people? They don't wanna way they want it right now collar Murray just watched his former teammate, you know, who he was the understudy to last year go on to play in the NFL this year and have a huge measure success offense rookie of the year maybe saquon Barkley, but one of the best young players in the game. And Baker Mayfield. All those first round quarterbacks. Played. So if you're Kyla Murray like let me see. I could ride buses and stay at red roof inns, and you know, maybe in twenty twenty one break in with the big club. And God forbid, I struggle like, you know, I could be traded. But at least that money's guaranteed. I think that's the long term safer play. But the instant gratification and. Do it now and have a chance to be impactful in twenty twenty and twenty twenty one. That's the football route one hundred percent. So it's really about what's most important to collar Murray. And what is he value markets? You know, he made an interesting point. Maybe let them try the football thing. And if he flames it's like, his baseball skills are going anywhere. Yeah. Exactly. I'd much rather be in the position of Tim tebow. Where are we used my athleticism in my prime to play football? And now I'm in my baseball announcing now, I'm in my thirties playing baseball compared to someone like Brandon Weeden who was the second round draft pick by the Yankees. Didn't do anything goes back as a twenty eight year old gets drafted. But now you pretty much pass your palm. You're you're twenty-eight-year-old quarterback. And no one wants your Winky, bro. Let's go to market San Francisco, real quick, Mark. You're on KABC. I wanted to talk about the forty Niners in you know, they're they're really good position in the draft. And I think they need to utilize it and really capitalize on the on the opportunities that having the draft. There's some talk. Oh, let straight for Brown or look look at Beckham. I I don't wanna treat fix for those guys we need to build this roster. And I think we have the opportunity with the second pick in each round. We need to capitalize on that. We had a bad year. Now, we're the good position in the draft. We need to use it. Let me ask you this. And I do agree that number two overall pick that thing needs to be roped off, and you either need to get me an elite edge rusher or maybe a shutdown corner. Probably preference would go to Russia. Got news for you, though. Pittsburgh Steelers are willing to move in Tonio Brown for a second round pick number two overall pick in the second round. I'm making that trait every time, man. Well, you know, there's two ways to look at it. This guys, you know, he's kind of a questionable attitude too. I'm not sold. I'm not sold. If this guy it's gonna to be a good citizen. There's some questions about his attitude. I'd always a great player. Nice to have them on there. But you know, it's not a sure thing with this guy. Could your problem? You're no, you're absolutely right. I mean, you know, personnel is a risk especially a guy like Antonio Brown, but damn that level of production. Woo. I mean, obviously, you'd have to have a a serious chat with them. And then kind of see whereas heads at, but I definitely just, you know, even Frodo Beckham junior for that matter. I think you'd have to give up more to get Odell Beckham junior at this point, he's younger, and you know, I think that there's been less to do than there has been around Antonio Brown. The last couple of years for sure, you know, it's funny. We always say that Mike Tomlin's is players coach they've had a tiny issue there the national anthem the kneeling issues they've had the issue. The Big Ben in Mason Rudolph the issues of Levy on bell, which is you know, contractual, but that thing played out so publicly last year, and then went they Antonio Brown. Steelers kind of a mess, man. But maybe that's kind of why Antonio wants out. Lots of times though, I will say this a change of scenery can do a guy some good. Appreciate the call. We gotta run. You are right though. This is year three for for Lynch and Shannon, just critical for this regime. All right. We got this date in history coming up. We'll put a bow on this conversation as well. Coming up on the other side, it is came and tonight. You're listening to the sports center. All.

Wow, it's hard to follow that. But if I was going to call it tell you, I'm I live out here in Oklahoma. And I'm so sick of hearing about Oklahoma is overrated offense.
