"That's what he's won consistently up near the top of the league amongst tight ends in terms of yards after the catch per reception. He obviously doesn't have the table at the Target share that a guy like a Travis Kelce has for instance where you could really rack up raw react totals, but just in terms of creating with the ball in his hands, he's really really good in that department. I don't know if he's dead a quicker as kind of agile through his route brakes as a guy like Hernandez was but he is that player that you know you go and you watch her Nana's old tape, they really obviously they had drunk so that that's part of the package he was somebody that they were always constantly moving around. I remember them running him having him run routes as a running back out of the backfield at times, you know, that's the type of thing that you could do with John who is kind of harken back to some of those Aaron Hernandez little wrinkles in the Playbook. I think he definitely fits that archetype. But again, I think a lot of that in the Gronk one, I think a lot of that worked because they had Rob Gronkowski. Yeah, and you don't like Johnny Smith is number two, I think makes more sense for the role that he would play. You don't want your loan tight end in the formation lining up in the back and like I don't know that that makes a ton of sense. And the question is is if you compare ja Tu and let's say they actually believed in Devin asiasi as an inline option because obviously did block pretty well last year, right, but then like your your number one tight end is your second best friend. I feel like you're just getting into this really weird cuz they're they put a lot into the pay structure. Right and all of that and John is going to be your highest paid tight end. He's going to be your best tight end. We're going to have him essential filling a number to roll. I just think that there's there's boundaries there in terms of how they usually operate and I'll say cuz I say it every show I have to say it take a drink cuz I said they're going to be uncharacteristically aggressive. So maybe they break the mold this year, but I just think there's boundaries to how they usually operate to make jonnu Smith a tough sell a little bit outside of their traditional birth. Boxes that need to be ejected. That's right, but they love versatility. They really do versatility. They love guys that they can move around he can certainly do that. Last one here Gerald Everett. This is now back into like the affordable tight end mark. Gerald Everett and five million dollars presents a ton of value because with the Rams their offense is really run through their wide receivers in their backpacks. It's not really a very tight and heavy offense. It didn't have a ton of opportunity playing in that big bass scheme. You give them some more opportunity. He certainly got some receiving skill. You can watch it. You can see it when he does get the chances to gain any can block a little bit. I think that Gerald ever it's a nice guy to kind of look at it what he could become in a year or two in a different system that really, you know, kind of amplifies his skill-set at the tight end versus what I was doing with him where he was really a fourth or fifth option at best. Yeah, I I like eifert kind of like you said because of the upside. I think he's a guy that talked about checking boxes. He checks a ton of the boxes for the Patriots in terms of size in terms of athleticism. He just dodged necessarily have the resume given a ton of opportunities. Some of that was a system. But.

"So let's take Corey Davis and my last name on my list and let's pair him with Curtis Samuel and what now you have a job in Corey Davis is going to play the X it's going to play outside and you have a guy in Curtis Samuel has your Z off the line flanked or whatever you want to call it receiver that can move all around the formation. I actually found at 3 a.m. From way back when Curtis Samuel was in the draft. I didn't I didn't remember this until I was searching my handle with Curtis Samuel's name for a video and I read realized that Curtis several used to play running back, right and that was his name. No role in college and his initial position in college. So he's got vertical ability at 431 speed and he's got bulk carrying ability with a running back background. So he is your sort of Swiss. Army knives versatile guy off. The line is from a jet. You're moving around. The formation Davis is your outside guy with your one-on-one coverage winner. That's an offense right. Now. You're starting to have complimentary pieces Curtis Samuel right off it around nine million dollars for David speaking 16 to Corey Davis to give 9 to Curtis Samuel here at that 25 for two is what we talked about all the time right now. You have an offense now, you have two complimentary offensive weapons that are going to be difficult to match up against that are going to be able to create mismatches across the field because the Patriots are going to be able to move those guys around and be creative with them exactly. That's what we're looking for. And you know, I think then you add a tight end to that whether it's Henry and now you're kind of spending a lot of money, but you're gonna have a pretty good offense or it's trading for Zach ertz, maybe yep. I like Tyler eifert who I don't thinks being talked about enough. I think I've heard, you know, he's played on some irrelevant teams radios in Cincinnati. And then he was with Jacksonville last year. Just you know, they're black holes their football black holes not really seen him, but he can play is he Henry know is he hurts based on what we saw last year if that regression holds he might be about that level, you know, you added him and now you have you know, not an elite number one side end, but the number one tight end and then Jacoby Myers, you know now suddenly there's a role for him. Now if Edelman comes back even though he's hurt he can maybe play a reduced role a situational role where there's less of a workload you figure out you sure you're doing it running back cuz James White's free agent, like now, you're putting it offense together where again if you spend twenty million dollars on Hunter Henry and twenty million dollars on all sides effort. You have a ton of star fat power but especially without a quarterback like that's not those players are hard to defend and Hunter Henry and all Shaun Geoffrey. But if you just add Hunter Henry and all Sean Jeffries the last year's Patriots offense. Yep. That tough to defend their not that much better. I think with those guys like the reason why I love a guy like Samuel as I mentioned the versatility in the ball-carrying..

"Embellish am interested but it's going to be you know, can can you look Juju Smith Schuster in the eyes and see yes. I'm going to you know, I'm going to tow the company line. I'm going to be what you want to be. I think the the concept that busy Spell check sucks all the personality out of his players is a little over right Rob Gronkowski. Look, he's not the guy he is now in Tampa, but he was able to have a personality Tom Brady certainly social media page later Years in New England was able to have a personality which seemed like JC Jackson talks a lot. Yeah, we don't talk about it. But he what did he say before surgery training camp last year. I can cover anything else. He talked about Juju after that. He I don't remember that one. But I remember that I can cover anything. Yeah. Yeah, you know, he does talk a little bit Ginger tell us a lot though, you know, it's basically the whole, you know, Bill won't cuz he uses shows social media. That's overblown. I I do think there's an element of it to dancing on the logo stuff right bills not going to want that. The one thing he does one is bulletin board materials. So I think it comes down to conversation and basically, you know, his pitch to Juju is I can get the most out of you. You did a really good job growing your game I can help you with. Keep growing it, but you need to cut back somewhat on the social media. Does he believe we'll Juju agree to that and we'll build trust Juju to agree to that becomes the question but there are no Jews a special talent. He's not a unique talent. There are other guys for roughly the same price. We're going to give you roughly the same thing. They might not be as young but how many receivers truly get a second contract the Patriots. So that might not be something bills worried about but he can go elsewhere find guys who can give him the same production bill can who aren't going to be dancing on logos. So that might be, you know, kind of like the breaking point for that one. Yeah. That's the biggest thing. I think on the positive end for JuJu's first of all, he's got that great inside-outside versatility the.

"I just think with them, right they look at value our how do they value their not you're not getting him for what? Is it? Six games? Right? Yeah suspension the first six games of his contract and he served he survived those games at the end one. It's one game. Okay, so then yeah, like maybe he's an option I again with I just I I've said this before he's going to be probably top three paid received. Free agency, right? If not top five. I you know, if you're going to spend twenty five million dollars at that position give me a $15 guy and a ten million dollar guy instead of just 125 million dollar guy. That's just thought, you know, the Patriots need more than one receiver more than one established receiver. Can they go to the draft sure, but what are they really have four nfl-caliber wide receivers on this roster? I you know what Julian Edelman status is going to be during the year. N'keal. Harry obviously is still a project to Mere bird is a third fourth receiver. Maybe he's not a guy you count on a Jacoby Myers is the closest thing they have and she's even you know, he he shouldn't be your first receiver. He should be your third or fourth. So right there you need at least two. If not three guys, if you spend all that money on will Fuller all that's going to have to happen is we'll Fuller's going to get double-covered and yeah, Jacoby Myers has a slightly better year than he did last year, but you're kind of just right back where you were they need to have Optimum. They need guys who will stress the defense from different points blowing twenty million dollars on will Fuller. Well, he's a good player doesn't solve that it needs to be multiple players. They need to build an offense not just a bulb talent and what it's going to cost them to bring in will Fuller I think handcuffs them in acquiring some of that second level talent that they ultimately need to get back into contention. Yeah, I agree with all that. I think the biggest thing was off though just to play Devil's Advocate is that the Patriots have been the slowest offense in the NFL for two years, right? They've been I would say even arguably three years if you want to go back to the 2018 season, even though I'm with a Superbowl not offense had issues certainly during the regular season that time that's a really big issues and will Fuller when he's healthy and that's that's a big if if he's healthy he comes in here and he brings a level of explosiveness that they have not had since I guess Brandin Cooks, right? They they just haven't had somebody that can truly explode and create big plays for the offense..

"Really prototypical Patriot type of player Patrick Stewart is probably going to be a top ten top 15 pick but he's definitely a patriot type of corner, press 15 to 25. Maybe. I don't know. It depends on who you ask for. Now on Caleb Farley has a lot of people dead. Spooning as well because of his athleticism. But either way he's going to be in the top ten top fifteen of the NFL draft JC horn I think is another guy who might be the most physical Corner in the entire draft, right? He plays a really physical brand of football both against the past and in run support he can tackle he can really play press man coverage. He's got fluidity. He's got all the man coverage skills in the world that you're going to want to stop all skills is. Lengths. He went to South Carolina just like Gilmore, right? You know there there's a lot of things that he resembles in a patriot type of corner as well. So there are guys in the draft especially at first round conversation at fifteen that the value is going to be there and the skill set and the translation into the Patriots defense is 100% going to be there now. None of us really want our closing time for the Patriots to take the corner in the first round necessarily, but if they lose a guy like Gilmore, they need to have somebody in that spot that can start and play productively right away. You can't really go off. With all let's see what happens with Joanne Williams at that spot or let's put Jason McCourty there at that spot of his age. I think that's a losing proposition. So somebody next to the other side of Jesse Jackson may be a ready tailor-made corner and I think it's there's a bunch of options in the first round there that I just mentioned. I don't know if Farley is necessarily their type of guy. He's pretty raw but Patrick's aren't and JC horn in particular two guys that definitely check a lot of boxes for the Patriots. Yeah. And I mean, I it's an interesting point about Gallup you kind of just trade one need for another I I'm still you know, I think they can get a first-round pick them trading in to the top fifteen within they're not going to do that. But again a team like the Packers that the windows so small, what does that first round pick really do for them right by the time that guys ready to go off is Aaron Rodgers even still there? Okay. So like I look at that and I think it just makes all the sense in the world for them to bring in a veteran. There's not a ton they can do with that pic. I know you have to figure out the cap side of it but the dog As Belichick lights to say can be maneuvered so I'm not I don't know like if you trade for a guy like Michael Gallup, right who you just brought up.

"That was I would say arguably the worst part of their job. Last year was setting the edge of the defense John Simon Chase winovich really struggled in that role of annoyed did not so I think that this is an easy one and easy one to decide that they should go after him I would get sick and I guess I'll just to backtrack something I said cuz I saw somebody I can remember who points us out on Twitter. There is I guess technically one more patriots satellite campus out there now that's down in Tampa and they do have some linebacker wage depending for agent. So maybe that's competition but it's a different scheme that right, you know, it's not the like the Patriots gave me add two braids becoming more and more the coach. He might take over the defensive side of the ball at some point, This is Todd Bowles of the defense is a very good defensive coordinator. He just won the Super Bowl basically, so I think the other thing was going down there I will mention is that maybe more so than brown noise extremely close with Robbie G as he calls him Rob Gronkowski those who were really good friends in New England. So maybe if you're looking for a Tampa Bay connection, I think it's actually be on Brady wage. It might actually be wrong that could really appeal to Kyle Van Noy again. I think the biggest thing is though is that he knew that Bill Belichick optimized him here in New England. He knew that his skill-set was best song by Bill and I remember he went on I can't remember I think was a Bleacher Report podcast or something like that where he said, I got to New England Bill kind of gave me like a three-step plan of how he was going to use me in this defense fact. I kind of had an epiphany of like, wow, this guy knows exactly how to use me correctly. This is exactly how I should have been playing my entire career and he really turned it around with the Patriots. This would be an awesome move for the pass. This is exactly the type of player the type of situation that they needed somebody that they have a past relationship with that. They can bring in to add to the front seven. I couldn't really think I had never thought of this was a possibility cuz I think he actually had a pretty solid season, you know, you just as a you know, we did last week the cap casualties as a cap casualty. They have Andrew van ginkel who isn't Vannoy but isn't a bad player at all. Solid player so, you know, there's not a nine million dollar gap between the two of them..

"So mad so mad five minutes running around my house so this is on an actual computer. Because you don't have just one of these like little snow. Yeah now on now. My normal set like i had to find a wired mouse somewhere back in our storage room and then that got me there. Then my keyboards not connected and can't connect your keyboard made it happen man. Somehow it paid off now. All your hard work has paid off. Look gotten on here. You look better than ever. The shows go and fantastic. Nobody even knows that would have happened if we didn't talk about it. That's how good you were in. Everything paid off. Another guy went to work. You know played his ass off You might did something here with the bluetooth. There played his ass off has done nothing but by in and he gets cut one into a thirty million dollar guarantee. Down there in miami calvin noise out of the miami dolphins. Have you heard this. Did you know this while while you were searching for a mouse. That had a wire. On calvin noise been cut from the miami. Dolphins is that not shocking insane. In not expected at all which i guess is the exact same as shocking. It is shocking to me. I mean this is the first. I'm hearing of it. I've as i told you. I've been kind of off the grid the last hour so how many years was the into. How many years was the deal for here. Deal thirty million dollars in guarantees one year in six sacks. Thirteen games in his statement through mike garafolo. I'm surprised and disappointed in their decision. As captain i gave my all to the team. I fought through a painful hip injury during the season including spending and night in the hospital. After a hard fought. Game for the miami dolphins i was brought there to be a leader and i know my teammates looked up to and respect to me. I'm looking forward to making an impact on my team on and off the field calvin noise now a free agent from what it sounds like even though another report said that they're looking to trade or restructure after he puts that statement out. Nobody's gonna trade anything that way for him to get into free agency. This is wild. This is shocking and this is why players have to take as much money as possible whenever they can get it because these situations are alarming for everybody well. There was ever a player that felt safe in their position. I feel like from an outsider looking in who was kind of nygard for this guy. He had a good year. He's a leader. He seems to kind of be like a one of the rocks on that team. Eh one looks too but it. Just this one's weird to me. It doesn't make sense. Why would maybe. The team was trying to trade him to put it out. He mess up their possible trade candidates. Now in what. I'm thinking is potentially. There's some behind the scenes right. Is there potentially something monsignor if they get them off the books they save ten million dollars which okay ten million dollars is great or whatever. But are you gonna use that. Ten million dollars to replace. Calvin knowing i mean unless they get gronk which is what rodney rich said was potentially going to happen or to shawn watson is coming in there. I don't know that makes it makes embolic dolphins fan here. He has been distraught. The last forty five minutes or so you think about the two of fits magic thing when they named to a starter. It got released before the team did and now this to. Oh what's going on as a shit. Stay since ever since they lost. Snowflake remember as let fucking snowflake gets stolen brain underneath them right underneath our noses. Snowflake it's in her jacked doing please. We need an you got it all right. Go for that franchise. What are they doing. Same old dolphins. Well you could get something you could get a lot for acc- for calvin elena trade. I feel like he's not like someone that's untradable. You could definitely get some value going back to what you were to send you kinda just hit me. You're thinking that they were potentially telling him that he might be traded easily. Nana let me pick where i want to go. At least i have a bentley with a drop top right now. I am not going somewhere. You're thinking that potentially is how this whole thing played out but it it's definitely a possibility to where yes they said. Hey we yeah. We are shopping. You and you could kind of so big wrenching. There couldn't be. Oh no here we go. Let's put this out now. I get to choose. Yeah by the way. You're not trading me okay. I was caught. They cut me. What are you gonna do now. It's already out there. Mike care fola. He said it now. We'll have cameron say that. It's not official. Okay we'll see if that plays out. I'll give a fucking statement that would be. That is what happened by the way which we are not saying it is what happened. Okay not saying at all. We have to live in these fantasies. Abo- shit because that's what this world is filled with. We had no idea. Calvin was potentially getting cut this morning. There's reports on the nfl everyday. This was never thought of. This is a wild tom right now. When do you think he would have been privy about this. Because the one of the first tweets did say like. Oh it's maybe expected but like last time we talked to him and everything like you like you said like this is a complete jock like do you think this just happened like today or yesterday over. The wheels really started moving on this what happened. He thinks he got a twitch stream. What happened. I don't know because they would. You would think they want to trade him if they wanted him off the team. Yeah let's get something for him. He's still young enough. He still productive these natural progression. Now is you go back and sign with big bill and the patriots. Cameron wolfe has responded. I'm told a pay cut was discussed. With calvin who is prepared to move on. Trade option still being explored but released coming if none found his tenure in miami was short lived more tax base for dolphins to use free agency a good draft for versatile. Linebackers two okay. We'll just draft a replacement for this dot. That person be a leader in the locker room. Okay that person's been around the person's one before that person will be able to potentially guide people whenever coaches can't talk to him and maybe make them better football or whatever Draft one of them for sure played with flora's. I mean all the guys in the draft all the free agents have been with flora's in their career led the team last year. I mean it's it's absolutely brilliant pat. It's fucking brilliant that's dolphins fan jumpy weighing in on the entire thing. What's that he's this really fucked up really fucked. The thought was like eight to shawn. Watson potentially commented kyle van noy load up that defense dumpy and i assume a lot of dolphins diehards which we know that the mouth probably fickle among probably not as big as maybe other places but for good reason. Because there's a lot of other things in miami to do and the team hasn't been grateful. Dumpy was living in real life fantasy surfer while this is it seems like it has. This is the house of cards baby that just came crashing down this move to say dolphins..

"We were getting ready to talk about. God knows what. But mike garafolo from. Nfl network just dropped a bombshell. He is now piggyback on camera wolf said and he is confirming. The dolphins have informed linebacker. Caveat no he will be released so as we were sitting here recording it. We were talking about what can happen when the dolphins potentially release. It is now official. Kyle van noy is no longer miami dolphin. Jacomb your thoughts. It really comes down to the leadership right. I mean i think you know whether it was on the field off the field. Vanoy was always well-spoken. You think about that patriot system and the floor is connection. What i see here is the who's going to step into that role. It really seems like it's drum baker's time to shine but you know this is the time to make the contract to give him do patrick because once you get to next year. It's only become more expensive. I think that's the one thing this dolphin staff. Chris greer especially really understands that the fact that you really can't if you're going to resign a guy you cannot wait till the final year Because it gets really expensive. But josh overall again this means the dolphins are really going to try to get a different players. They're going to try and make a lot of booze and who knows. We thought they'd make a couple of wisdom predency. Maybe they're going to end up trying to be big spenders yet. Jake and some of the names thrown out there. We we heard hassan riddick. I believe it was a armando. Salga mentioned him. We know is a versatile player guy that you know many dolphin fans one in the draft a few years back so that could be a guy that they throw a large contract at and then there's lavar david linebacker for the tampa bay buccaneers. I know everyone saw him flash throughout the super bowl throughout the playoffs. So those are two names that you know could warrant those big contracts and again. They could be a little bit more of what the dolphins need in the middle et. Defense amid calvin brings but again. It's just crazy that a year ago. They brought in cavenaugh to be that leader to do all the things that you know from our standpoint you know. And from what we hear from the coaches he went out there and did exactly what they pay them to do but to move on after year. I mean this is just a testament to just how big of a wildcard. The miami dolphins are under brian floor. As you know we can't say that enough. You know just how you can see here and you can. It might not draft quarterback at three that you know they might not do this and that no one knows what the what they're gonna do. And this proved calvin noise. Brian flores guy brought him here to be that leader that defense again by all accounts he was that but they're moving on. I'm excited to see what the next step is gonna fishes podcast. We're going to hear some another nugget. Drop about who the dolphins are potentially signing. But this is just madness man and it's all on top of those birthday. Wish him a happy birthday. Happy birthday quarterback onto its sending this whole thing around him and a while. What a day man. What a day you mentioned it before the break. And i think this is where we should wrap it. Up jason mcintyre. Espn deshaun. watson was at the cannella fight at hard rock stadium. You set it mortar using this cap space to help finagle a watson. Deal based on the entire intel mcintyre has heard. I'm putting miami ahead of carolina. Now is the leader in terms of signing to shawn watson retreating john watson and on top of that mcintyre double down. So it's obviously it's all speculation but as people who cover the seam insert reporting that something like that. I know everyone gets mad. Talking about the shawn watson. he doesn't bid it's the chemistry. The contracts gonna put us back but as we see here as we see with someone like bed. Noy money is really adjustable. It seems in terms of the cap space and the vanoy cut is just a side of that. And obviously we're not gonna sit here and celebrate it We're wishing nor the absolute best user. Treat have in miami. He was always around the ball and he was a playmaker. And that's what the dolphins needed..

"Off. Is the gift that keeps on giving welcoming insider radio my name. Is jake mendel. Joining the is josh outs. And joshua the offseason you know as people who create content about the ball. We expect this to be the slow period. Obviously we're not recording as much in terms of preparing for free agency that still. Oh my god that's only two weeks away but news broke today. Espn's cameron wolfe is reporting that in a move that nobody was expecting. Kyle venoy might be on the chopping block from the miami dolphins as the two sides. Continue to talk it out and see if they can reach a deal. Just sent me this via twitter. Dm what what went through your mind. When he first kind of rent it for me jake and i think what's most shocking is. We know that he has familiarity with brian floors. No is brought here to you. Know run this defense. In a sense we talked about in previous podcast. Every week there was one captain named on this roster and it was called in noise so when you think about that when you think about how much he meant to this defense it is a little bit of a surprise but nine point seven five million in cap space free up. We'll talk about you. Know what this means for some of those young players who you have to be excited about you know you had to say about in japan kinkel because he looked like a whole play you know. He took that leap in from year. One to year two and coaches raved about jerome baker guy who was a little bit hesitant to to crown him like some fans but he came on so it means it means a lot of good things for these young guys but it would definitely hurt to this defense. The veteran guy again. That has all this familiarity with this defense. Brian floors right hand. It seems to cut him now. It means the dolphins a free up space to do something. And i don't know what that means jake the first obviously we pulled together a little bit of research before recording. This show. the first article. I saw was a pro football talk story about when the dolphins signed van noy and it was basically was praising the dolphins about how their vision how how they're not making the mike wallis the denounce other beach signings anymore. That this is the right idea. This is the right direction. The dolphins are going in and your we. Are you later talking about a cap casualty. And i think this is a really important concept because whether we're talking about the dolphins signing aaron jones whether we're talking about the dolphins traded for deshaun watson. There's this idea out there that that the cap is this very solid thing that cannot really be maneuvered but but that can be further from the truth. 'cause i looked up this calvin contract fifty one million dollars over four years. Fifteen million guaranteed at signing and thirty million dollars total guaranteed. I smashed the panic button. When i first read that josh. Also go no. We're going to go back into cap. Heller feel good year. You know i. I went straight to the panic. By and i know i'm not one to usually do that. But that's what i did. And then then i look at this this deal. The cabinet preventative. Next year is right around. Fourteen million dollars keep in mind. We don't want to sign. Aaron jones for twelve million dollars. Keep that in mind But that number drops if the dolphins were cut knowing the dead cat hit is four million dollars which the last couple of years looking at the dolphins dead cap. It doesn't really seem like too much. And then next year they were to be dropped..
J.J. Watt is leaving the Houston Texans
"Talk about it real quick here about the current state of the nfl. All right to shawn watson is going to be somebody that's talked about if this is the way the. Nfl becomes with high super caliber superstar quarterbacks wanting out of their russell wilson is somebody you would never think whatever asked to be traded or moved or anything other than go hawks matthew stafford we thought he was potential gonna die on a football field while wearing alliance jersey because he would never ever come out and say hey. This is not for me anymore. Okay i would like to potentially go on and have success somewhere because when legacies are talked about hall of fames or talked about. I just heard what happened. philip rivers. I would like that not to happen to me. But this is not the type of guy i am at all now got. Jj watt not that type guy at all by all accounts. He's going in saying. Get me out of here. That's when it gets interesting because now it's not you know because back in the day they would move somebody is they're labeled a distraction. Let's get out of here. Let's go do whatever now. It's like all of the biggest name players that you would never expect a walter payton man of the year potentially the greatest philanthropic person in the nfl is potentially saying you know what i mean a new landscape. I'm intrigued to see how this continues. How each of these situations gets talked about judge in how many of them actually happened. Because the seahawks without russ stink. The texans were out the shawn watson. Probably gonna stink now without. Jj watt not to jj watt winning. Them games good player. I mean he's a great player. He's gonna play well somewhere else. Wide jason ring. It's like all these teams are are potentially at the mercy of their big name
Patriots Defense Needs Fine Tuning In The Off Season After Run Defense Dooms Playoff Chances in Miami
"Let's get into a little bit of games specific stuff everything again. Obviously a nice run defense is a thing. I don't think it matters much in the long run. But this was for against a dolphin team that really doesn't Rush the ball that well. This was fairly surprised. Well, I just think it comes back to the fact that really all year long. I've kind of thought that flying under the radar was the Patriots lack of first and down first and second down Edge Defenders game that can really said a sturdy edge of that's the scheme that they're going to continue to run moving forward and they're not going to go to some of these one gabbing penetrating style defense has that we see more and more across the NFL if they're going to stick to the boss two gabbing style. They are going to have to upgrade at Edge this offseason whether it's a guy in free agency that they bring in or someone like that and I think last year was Van Noy and Collins and and suck on and so forth. I think we got a little bit. I don't know. I think Bill thought that he could plug in play certain guys there like a Simon like some of the rookies like a winovich and it just hasn't really worked out that way. So I yeah, yeah, and and that I think has been the linebacker level is a problem too. I think really the whole front seven needs an upgrade in a lot of spots and they could use a nose tackle. Certainly that could eat up some blocks in the song. Along with Lawrence guy, but not being able to set the edge of the defense and really failing multiple times and doing that today. That was a big big problem for them against the Rams as well. It's been a problem all year. The Niners game with the Niners ran all over him that was often off the edge or attacking those Edge Defenders. So guys like John Simon, you know, he's a great Patriot. He's at that lunch pail type of guy bring the heart hath to work all that kind of stuff. But at the same time that player maybe works out a little bit better when you have a Dante Hightower and you have a Kyle Van Noy and you have Jamie Collins you have guys on the defensive or I can defeat box. And now when they don't have that Talent around a John Simon is easily exposed and if somebody that's a little bit, you know more in the conversation as like a regular every-down player, which has been a major concern on the edge setting setting the end of the defense against the Run. We all want to talk about why when if it doesn't laying why would if it doesn't play well that big thirty five yarder you can see that's cool. Winovich isn't playing. He got bullied right off. The ball doesn't do enough dream aswell yet. You know, I mean it is what it is. Right? And and that's just a this front seven of the defense was a concern going into a year. It was a concern all season long and then it kind of figured itself out in certain matchups against Baltimore against Arizona. They had some good run defense games, but they'll big picture and large picture is that the run defense in the front seven needs a lot of fine-tuning in the offseason. That's for

"That winning pedigree from his time with the New England Patriots and he's the guy isn't he the guy who who delivered the dagger to Tom Brady's career into a sixteenth our carpet last pass yeah he caught the last pass that last pass from Brady obviously you know and Mike how sharp would you be not very if you saw him sign with the patriots two years nine million I mean at the E. one of the reasons why the patriots handle free agency in these weird trains like the Kyle van Noy issue trade where you're basically trading you know a fifth round pick for Kyle van Noy in a seventh or whatever that was you know that's where the patriots really make Hey and they turn these guys into really good players how thankful by the way musk Kyle van Noy B. to the New England Patriots and a bill ballot check into Brian Flores quite honestly for putting him in position to be a great player Mike I voted Kyle van Noy is one of my all pro linebackers last year and now he gets whatever fifty six million dollar contract with Miami and all I'm saying is that I want to know on bill Belichick's grease board right now in his office or right now in his home office which is where it has to be I want to know on his grease board I want his ten guys right now that he is waiting for the market tech caving in on and it which is in its in the process of doing and then he's gonna swoop in like a vulture and he's going to take a low cost guys let's say the week of the week after the draft maybe even a quarterback who's to an old all time against New England Patriots at would be cam Newton and that is the corner square and PFT bingo that's one of my favorite favorite stats to point out and I don't think the cam Newton fits in New England but that that's the kind of idea the longer this process goes the financial demands drop guys become available and Bella check swoops in and bargain shopping gets value dollar for dollar better value than anyone gets in free agency all right we're gonna take a break we're turn anybody who pays attention to the NFL new the Todd Gurley was gonna get cut by the rams one person didn't see it coming you'll be surprised to find out who that was we'll tell you who it was right after this something be your nose hubs so congested use the Vic side X. Basil spray starts working in seconds and lasts for up to twelve hours if you can bring a whole new nose.
Tom Brady Becomes a Tampa Bay Buccaneer
"Because I don't want to run out of time I do want to touch on what transpired in patriot world today yes Tom Brady is now Tampa Bay bucs the it is borderline old news now because it's a couple days add the reverberations will go on for a very long period of time there after but the news itself is not breaking today you did have a couple of moves that were breaking news today in New England give me a read on the two sidings the patriots had brain a couple of the guy I talk play for my jets this year not a bad player as a matter of fact and the return of Brian Hoyer to potentially compete for the starting quarterback job there in New England give me your thoughts on both to two months yeah I think they're directional moves I think as soon as you know sort of the cold side Philip rivers you know a lot of people around here we're thinking that you know reunion with lawyer or maybe even Jacoby percent was up author bility I think the horrible exactly he's got he's got great knowledge of this offense he knows that locker room he does the coaching staff so he'll come in and help you know if not compete for the starting job to always be a great sounding boards for Jarrett Stidham you know who's kind of a presumptive you know successor to Brady a fourth round pick out of Auburn last year so a great locker room guy you know like I said very knowledgeable and you know one thing about Brian Williams when the patriots won the Super Bowl against the rams two years ago he was universally wanted by his teammates for his ability to run the scout team and kind of morph into the opposing quarterback down the stretch in the playoffs run so really good guy really good signing I just just make a lot of sense for him to be here you know Brandon Copeland the guy who did the patriots has seen up close for a number of years now where they pay it you know in the at the I got at the Coachella tickets Oct glowingly about the past seems like the patriots have a guy you know good special teams guy and also has that versatility that the patriots love in their life back together can rush the passer he can drop in coverage you can play the run picnic walk a lot of guys in free agency this week Kyle van Noy Jamie Collins in the Robert so really need to restock that line backing core and feel good start getting brand coke on a guy who they had interesting last offseason but weren't able to

We undefeated so we're good to Kyle Van Noy question tile am I being blamed for collapse of the New England patriots towards the end. I give you credit. Hey let's talk about some serious being named Watts. Payton man of the year is a massive massive accolade the NFL. It's not an easy thing to accomplish. You're going to be good human. It's one care for the rest of your life. I was walk straight man of the year for the colts. I still. We'll talk about it and remember it to this day. But some of those people that choose to go off the top of those awards viral moments for being terrible. I gotTa tell you a quick one. So the Patriots do One they give every year. It's the Ron Burton award right. And they don't tell you I go up in front on a all the sponsors for New England all my players and I say I'm so thankful for the family of Ron and before I even thought about it I almost said Burgundy and I and my body just like stop up and then one of my teammates.

"By an absolute legend a super bowl champion a man whose brain is just as bigoted heart. He runs the all Pro Dad Organization which helps men become true leaders leaders of their family. He was in Indianapolis for a long time. Tampa Bay for a long time. He was a steeler. Now you can see him on football night in America on NBC NBC. He was also a part of the Blue Ribbon panel which selected the NFL all time team which continues this Friday evening at eight eight PM Eastern on NFL network with rich. Eisen Chris Collins Worth and Bill Bell Jack Ladies and Gentlemen Tony Dungy Pat Coach. How's it going? How's life? How is everything in the coach Dungy world? Well I'm doing well. We just landed in Atlanta where actually broadcast in the game game Thursday night. Thanksgiving Game Falcons and saints so fired up and having fun. Well I think you do a great job on television because not only. Do you have an incredible resume but your ability to break down nuances of things is a lot of fun to watch speaking of breaking things down that blue ribbon team that our panel that had to decide the NFL all time team. How that was that whole process? Who else was in there? And I'm sure you enjoy the hell out of that in my right. It was a lot of fun. It was talented. No because you're trying to compare people people from different eras where statistics aren't the same. Don't mean as much You know you've got to figure out who was dominant and their era and compare them looked dominant minute today Great to be on with some wonderful people bill Poland. Obviously you know well bill. Belichick was amazing during the whole crosses a great historian. I think you're saying some of his personality. Come out on these show. A lot of the writers have been covering the League for years but it was it was difficult trying to go across generations and compare people. That's always the conversation between Jordan in the Bronx and players from the past and players of now is like well if Jordan had the same same training and technique practice at the guys have now. How much better would he be in for the guys of today going back then? If a guy was six four eight three hundred and fifty pounds assume assume he would have been a dominant offensive tackle back then to. It is very difficult to do that. Yeah and you look at Like Don Hudson who You know caught a thousand in yards worth of passes when the rest of receiving core in the League was averaging two hundred and fifty yards or three hundred. How do you compare that to what Jerry Rice? Then in his era and that's those are the conversations we had. He was pretty incredible. Well I think you guys have done a great job as far. I'm enjoying that show because you don't get a chance to see bill belichick act in a way that he's acting in this he's breaking things down from the history of the game you know you're talking about a guy who's had the most success in the history of coaching football to listen to him be a host. The show has been fantastic. Let's pivot now. At what point. Do you put Lamar Jackson on the. NFL's all time team is that now or is it next week Act We had I had Robert Griffin third. Going the same thing if you remember. He came into the lake by storm with making these seventy yard runs. And then how do you defend that. And Lamar you're playing outstanding planned fantastic but Let's let him stay healthy number one and then number two. But these pro coaches. Here's what I think is is going to happen. You Know Pat. How normally in the spring college coaches come to visit You're not as to get ideas on how to do things in place place. You're going to see all these different coaches go visit Alabama and visit Auburn and visit Clemson. And how do you guys defend these read option defend the RPO. You're going to see a different set of defense. WHO's next year Because the ravens have taken everyone by surprise with this offense that is what happened to rg three. And what happens to the wildcat. But I assume Michael Vick had a long run of success. How do you stop something? That is almost very difficult. Got To prepare for because it feels like Lamar Jackson can go off script and when somebody goes off script and can make a lot of places that's hard to prepare for right because you're training and practicing for if this then then this but with Lamar it's a complete different animal my Roland. You're absolutely right. It's like playing against Barry Sanders. You do everything right. You have a guy in position to make the play. He can't can't make the play because he's not a good enough athlete. And then Lamar goes forty yards with something that you had technically played right so that that's the problem album with him and the other thing I didn't think he would be able to do. This quickly. Is throw the ball so well so accurately and with so much poise from the pocket. I expected to say the-these Ron and and make him play. But now Uley people open. Because you're crowd. In the line of scrimmage he's hitting them at about ninety percent that's incredible edible. It is something to marvel at every time he steps on the field. He's made the game very exciting to watch it on the flip side of last night's game this. La Rams team looks completely dead. I'm in coach. They look bad. What is the big difference from last year whenever they were in the superbowl now granted and perform great and they might have got away with one fastener freelancer in New Orleans but last steer they took the world by storm this year? It seems like they're just have one big dud coach. What can happen in three hundred sixty five days to have that big of a change in a team they have lost off their Mojo on offense and I really think it starts with Todd Gurley? That was the hammer that they had. You had to kind of defend him like defend Lamar. We've got to commit everything we've got to stop the run and that opened up some easy throwing lanes. Well now they're not getting that and Jared Goff has to to create those passing place and it just. This hasn't happened so far so I think they've got to get their offense going again and specifically that run game. I think they're done for. I don't like I. Hey I heard your comment about the forty nine. Don't sleep on the niners now this. I don't think this game is going to be a twenty one point gain next week. I'm looking forward to seeing that. Because the there are some athletes on the forty niners. You love that you love defense. You love good defense. I think the forty niners team. I didn't give them enough. Respect your credit early because they hadn't played anybody anybody then they should have beat the seahawks if you make another kick and they've had a couple of big wins but this ravens team. I think the niners defense really feast on teams. That don't have good offensive of lines this Baltimore Ravens Offensive Line seems to be legit. You see things differently no they are. They this is GonNa be a great match up because you've got a tremendous offense and lying going against all those number one draft choice the offensive line and I think people if you love football. You'RE GONNA love to see this now. The thing I think believe it or not. Give San Francisco a chance this Monday night on the West Coast coming back losing a day. they're going to have to get that energy back they're young team and I think they I will but the the forty niners half day advantage on them. That is a big travel to I mean they. They have it at home though. I believe which is good for them. And it's tough to Get back until early this morning. And now you've got kinda rest up and try to get going so and then San Francisco. A lot of problems to prepare for. Their offense would kill kiddle back. They're able to run the ball now. It's going to be it's going to be a great game. I think I think so too. I'm excited for it. Those are my top two teams right now. My number three team and I think I only we have on there because of how dominant their defense has been in their special teams but their offense hasn't been able to click just yet. I assume they'll be able to figure out by the playoffs. Rex Ryan said I. I would love to coach against this New England Patriots team now granted. I don't think he's paying enough credit to the defense or to their special teams. But what do you think's going on in New England on offense side of the ball is in a lack of a weapon. Do you think they'll get it. Figured out by the time whenever it all he really starts the matter and now I think this is what they're going to be. They lost their center. It causes struggle. They're left tackles in and out they don't have big play receivers This is the team and they won the Super Bowl back in two thousand. I WANNA. Let's say two thousand one or two thousand three just like this with a running game and great defense opportunistic special teams. They know how to play that way. And you know uh-huh Peyton Manning Super Bowl in Denver that way with great defense good running game and timely passes. I think that's what you're gonNA see home today if they can keep home field advantage now if they lose another game and they have to go back to Baltimore. I don't think anywhere in the world. They went in Baltimore but if they get Baltimore up there in New England. They've got a chance. How big is field advantage for the defensive side of the ball? Oh a two on one. The other team has gone silent. Snap count that. That creates a lot of advantage for your defensive line weather condition for New England. They know how to play in that sloppy windy weather and just been at home resting up. Having your fans there the energy you get from them You know.

Loyd those Primetime Games there are some players that you've you've seen them that whenever the lights come on everything. KINDA gets a little deer in the headlights. If feels like prime time is something that happens every week for the Patriots. It's yeah it's a blessing to be on TV for the family. That's for sure My family doesn't get too many games so it's blessing that they're able to see all the way on the West Coast so I'm always excited plough on prime time for them Try to make a play for my mom and my dad and and you know honestly for some players. Quick-hit thoughts on the Patriots' win over the Bills
"Patriots sixteen to ten win over the bills in Orchard Park. The bills made this a game after a very slow start but there would be no magic when Barkley Barkley replaced an injured Josh Allen Greg who bravely locked up the Patriots in this kind of didn't see a lot of offense on display in Buffalo. No you asked you know going into this game. The bills make a statement or did the Patriots do Patriot. I guess it's both because the bills made a statement they made Tom Brady look worse than any has in in a long time. This was his lowest passer rating since two thousand six in a game. It's the most passes he's ever thrown in a game without getting to two hundred yards didn't even get close closely at one fifty. He was under fifty percent completion. They had seven drives where they went three and out they had only a couple apple more where where they got one first down they did nothing offensively and late in the game they were inside the five yard line with a chance to go up to scores and and they smartly kicked a field goal and I thought that was bill belichick saying this bills defense is is too good for us. We need to just go up six points. That's the kind of defense buffalo played but they get a special teams touchdown they knockout Josh Allen in the fourth quarter and they do a lot of things defensively on their own to get the Stop ATM in my tracks the decision fourth and goal to go for it because it feels like a patriots thing that they would go for it and since the moment but you're right they had that much faith the defense which they should be doing defense is incredible and the bills just weren't moving the ball. I mean you locked up New England but if someone had told me that you would have held Tom Brady eighty two three point eight yards per attend sub Gabbard so if you would have given up only sixteen points to this offense and if Frank Gore would have run for one hundred and nine yards at six point four yards spur Kerry I would have plucked up the bills. I would've thought they're going to find a way to they're not an explosive offense but find a way to get seventeen points. I mean the difference was the punt return touchdown. The Patriots scored the Patriots offense only scored ten bills offense scored ten and the Patriots Defense was very lucky to hold the bills to only ten because the bills did do a better job especially in the second half moving up and down the field but the situational defense that the Patriots have especially in the red zone with Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy and everything that they can do was really special today. You're tipping your tap. Your tipping your cap to a good bills defense and a well coached team. But how much of this does it raise any red flags for are you on the Patriots offense. It's a long season. I said going into this game. I didn't think their offense was nearly up to speed their offensive line. got pushed around. I think this the bills defense had a great plan for them. I mean yeah they have to be. They're going to be a different team in December one way or another whether they're better or worse. They're going to be totally different the fact that they we're able to sneak out a win was

"Well, it's funny because Jimmy Varietes on our staff is one of those voters voters, I think she's new to the panel. And she was talking to Robert Clem co about who to vote for it. I couldn't quite hear them. And I was sitting next to Connor or so Clem Cohen Veran tests or two seats down from me. It's Connor or right next to me. And I leaned over to Connor. And I said, you just know the voters are going to get lazy and give this vote to settlement. Don't you because they're not going to try to sort out the defense? And apparently Ginny had just at that moment said I think I'm voting for element to clip. Geico. So it's an they thought that was funny. But you know, what people Ginny she's putting a tough position there to vote defense in the middle of the game. Because so much of what a defender does is not reflected on the surface, and it's certainly not reflected in the stat book. So I understand how Eshelman did get the vote. And I don't think it's a horrible vote. He did some important things in that game. He was by far the biggest guy in their offense. But once you get a chance to look at the film, and I would not vote of this way after the game. So I would have been guilty of. I don't know who I would have I probably would have voted Gilmore after the game. But once you look to Gilmore little bit. I know. Yeah. I know we did. After seeing the film. My guys Kyle van noy and next to be Hightower, and then probably Gilmore but van noy did in. None of it's so shows up on stats, but he did everything that made the game plan goal. So those six men defensive lines. He was up on the what amounted to the weak side. He played wherever the tight end was not. He was opposite. The tight end he often walked out. Over the wide receivers as part of that six D line. And he jammed those receivers we wondered about that, Gary. If they would Jan those tight split receivers..

"It is the bar. All right time for the winter, Sony basilic. Well, this is one of the best offense allies of football. We recognize him for a while to Dallas Cowboys big win against the Detroit lives, forty six forty four. And it's because of the big guys up front. Eighty three yards rushing. One hundred fifty two of those zero sacks only two quarterback pressures. We tell you what that group brought got it done. I mean, they're they played really. Well, they're doing it without Travis Spradlin the center a lot of credit. While this offense a blonde for Indianapolis is now going with a six member on the field. Mark the Lewinsky the former Seahawk extra offense wanted and I intend New England thirty five. Handoff straight ahead running towards the left now cutting to the right is Wilkins with a nice move for five yards. Lewinsky was in there on the block second and five with eleven thirty five to play in the third quarter. The colts really wanted to get the run game going. It just hasn't happened. So far today, and that's because coming into the patriots weren't very good twenty seven the NFL giving up one hundred twenty one and a half yard game. And that's after only give it up fifty six last week before last week. They were on the worst the NFL Paschal. The motion man's second and fought big hole for Wilkins shoots. Roy Wilkins to the twenty right up the middle to the fifteen each quarrels inside the fifteen blocks from clarkin Kelly sixteen yard rip for the rookie. And the colts are in the Buffalo Wild Wings red zone hit the Buffalo Wild Wings for their five dollar game day deals. Great hall. I mean, it was big enough older drive with those Ford trucks through. There was nobody on the backside at all. The work you running back Wilkes gets up and Wilkins is now banged up heads to the sideline replaced by highs. I intend from the fourteen of New England. They give it to Hines Hines trying to squeeze all on that right side. It gets tossed back. The other way by Lawrence guy. Kyle van noy also in there, no gain on the blind cave. Acquaint Lawrence guys gets the penetration gets the initial hit on high heights tries to cut it back. But there's this no one nowhere to go with that rested. That patriot defects. Warning signs flanks locked from the gun ten twenty three to go. In this third quarter. Three receivers to the left one day the right trailing twenty four to three. Look takes the snap. Endzone left side. It's Eric for the touchdown. Devin mccourty. And the colts offense signs of life. They get the coverage record broad. It's a corner route. Just beats recording. Just a very basic route before does not do a good job. Steph had distance between without ball's road, the balls right on time right on target. And remember the kick return thirty two yard set it up for Indianapolis and Eric Hebron, the former Detroit lion signed a two year fifteen million dollar deal. Touchdown grant the export for good a Terry. He muscles at through. And the colts cut into the New England lead. It's twenty four to ten nine forty eight remaining third quarter from Foxborough.
