"I know you want it last year, and you bring everybody back. Go get guys that are going to give you depth that are gonna play positions. Help you go back to back and repeat as champions in a quarterback. That will be what third on your depth chart doesn't do that. And I know like we get all kinds of listeners. We're cleared in a lot of cities in Florida. So a lot of you down there probably are biased on this that you know you. You watch University of Florida football. You're a Gator fan, and so an SEC country. So you might be You might think Kyle Trask is has a bright future. Well, I'm here to tell you that he doesn't And when you're already low on picks, why take a quarterback who has what? Maybe a 3% chance of being a good starting quarterback. Take someone in a position even if he's not going to be a starter. Take somebody something. Take someone in a position. Where if you suffer an injury Your depth is weak. Your depth is low. This guy can go in and play. So I bought the bucks. Screw that up. I think that's going to be a pick. They ultimately regret. Why. Why waste Second round pick. You find good players in the second round. Why waste one on a guy who Likely won't see the field. You've already got Josh. They soldier diameter of Josh Rosen. But you, Blaine Gabbert stinks. I get it. There's not a young quarterback, but why? Why even worry about that right now. You thought Jamis Winston was your future? You signed Tom Brady in free agency. Maybe you'll find another guy there in two years. I just that that pick I think most people looked at Kyle Trask is a third or fourth round pick to take him in the second round. When you've got the greatest quarterback of all time on your roster made no sense to me. It's not like back in the Patriots days where Bella check would always have extra picks and could use a pick on Mallet or Jimmy Garoppolo or one of these quarterbacks because he had two or three, third, second or third round picks. You're low on picks. You take Kyle Trask. There's no chance of ever play there. Maybe you disagree with me. You think he's got a bright future 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. We're starting this hour by talking about teams that had the worst drafts if you're ticked off about your team's draft You think you think your team missed it? Missed? The mark blew it 855 to 1 to 4 to 27 event giving another 10. Or maybe you want to debate the bucks thing with me or the Trask point. Another team that I think Crapped the bed. The Saints. You know it's bad. When your own coach Sean Payton comes out and says after he makes a first round pick, we wanted to trade into the top 10 and get a corner. 99% of the time. G. M's and coaches after the draft tell you This is this is the player we wanted. This is the best we could have done. We love our draft class. We couldn't be happier. The Saints fall into that 1% where they're like, Yeah. Patrick Turner. We really didn't want to take this guy. We wanted to move up into the You know, to the top 10 to the eighth or ninth pick or You wanted to get to a point We could take one of these elite corners. And then we got stuck and we took this guy. That's how it reads to me. That's how I took that. So how could I give them a good grade when they've identified an area where they're not good where they're lacking? And then they fail. They come right out and total transparency, which I respect. But they pretty much tell you in Coated terms or in euphemistic terms. This is not what we wanted to get out of our draft. They don't even like their draft. So how could I? So I'm down on the saints and the last team. I'm down on here. And I know they didn't have a, um No, they didn't have a ton of picks. Because And you were you, by the way. We also have a lot of Louisiana listeners who I'm sure, um Although even if your Saints fan how can you like what they did? 855 to 124227. The last team. I think that really that really blew it with Seattle. No, they didn't have all their picks because of the jail in Adam's trade. Um You mean? I just can't You only have three picks. You only have three picks. It's not like you did a ton in free agency. So I guess my point there is it's not so much about the players. You drafted? It's about how You really Didn't find enough ways. Do a make your team better this offseason in B. Pacify and placate your quarterback. You're Russell Wilson is not He's not pulling an Aaron Rodgers. It doesn't sound like it's that Acrimonious where They can't mend fences. I think that things can get smoothed over in Seattle much better than Green Bay. They made a trade. They've made trades. For NFL players and they've given up draft capital. The problem is they didn't do enough in free idol. They.
'In Golf?': Nick Saban Responds to Jimbo Fisher Comments
"It seemed like every day. There's something about nick saban in the air. We had him the other day. Then jimbo fisher talking and now. Nick sabin has responded. He was in mobile alabama. Last night of speaking at my god for each team focus event and he decided to respond. Well he had no choice. She was surrounded by a group of media members to ask about jimbo saying that sabin was going down. So it's got to ask your friend. Jimbo said yesterday that Some quiet while you're in tuscaloosa. He was in a here but was nowhere that he used his. You have any response for a golf football field. Come a day but is that. What are you talking about football. Thank you was used to be almir. Noontime basketball league. I guess we're no longer partners to come to that. Because they have a really good team really good program and You know they're getting better and better all the time. And there's a lot of challenges in the sec. And they're certain one of them certainly one of the up and coming programs and he's always been a great coke to the great job for us when he was with us and he's had a great career as a head coach so You know it's going to be a challenge for us. No doubt when we them

"Then the Bears don't have 1/4 round They have 3/6 round picks the 24 37 44th of the round and then no seventh rounders, So we'll see what happens as we go, but it's nice to hear Bears fans. Excited instead of yelling and screaming and easily could have happened. It easily could have happened if they would have sat there and waited and stated 20. Maybe taking the offensive linemen out of a nice, But then they would have had to grab one of the other quarterbacks and went the second round of the third round. And not nearly as good as Justin Fields. Let's go to Evanston, Our guy, John. Hello, John. Hey, guys, How are you doing? Well, You know? I'm looking at the situation with fields and I think that a quarterback should be working over the playbook with him. Someone that Ah Pretty much went through the same thing when he was a rookie. And how he was taught to play book, you know, and just, you know, keep keep feels relaxed. Let him ask questions if he needs to, but Do it with a fine tooth comb. Maybe, you know, do some shortcuts in the playbook that maybe will help him remember the place. Um I just think it's Ah, It's a better idea. The letter quarterback work with him, and as far as when he should go on the field. I think that whoever works with them should relate to the coaching staff. You know when he's ready, because not only will be the playbook, but you've got to feel comfortable that he could read defense's and go on the field that actually Be comfortable with the surroundings. You know that he's dealing with and when he goes up to center, he has more than just a nice idea of what's going on. He knows what's going on. And he can make the play. He can call the play. But, you know, let him take his time. I don't want to see him on the field the first year because it's gonna take at least a year for him to memorize that playbook and get comfortable with his teammates. And what not be able to ask the questions that he's going to ask cause he's gonna ask questions during the game as to what's going on. And just the longer he takes to get in there, the more comfortable he'll be when he does get in there, and I think the quicker things will turn around for the Bears because you'll have a quarterback that Knows what he's doing and act like he's in charge out there. You know what I'm saying? John, I appreciate the call the one thing and I think that you know they have Nick Foles. I'm not sure what they couldn't do with Nick Foles. And they have Andy Dalton, and they are guys that it's interesting because in some sports, there's no reason for the quarterback to help the younger guy. Really? Because, um You don't want the younger guy to take your job and Andy Dalton and Nick Foles spot they're getting paid. They should do whatever they could do. It would only make them make things better for them. And from what we hear from Nick Foles and Andy Dalton. These guys are interested in helping the guys when Andy Dalton was signed back in March. He talked to the media march 18th and was asked if he would be okay if the Bears actually drafted a quarterback. I think that Z kind of part of it. I've been I've been the starter and help the backup throughout my career, and so I think it's what you can do to help the next guy, you know, we'll we'll see if that's the case and what we do in the draft, but No. I've got no problem with that. I mentioned how we had the guy from our legs. Dan Schachte on last week and our lands guy, just an awesome one. And this is really quickly just some of the highlights on Justin Fields, who they had listed as the third quarterback. They had a Trevor Laurence Mack Jones and Justin Fields. Okay, so you do not have Trey Lance there, then they head Zack Wilson. Fourth Train lands fifth. Kyle Trask, sixth. While Justin Fields won the Big 10 offensive Player of the Year award full seasons and was the second team All America in 2019 made it all the way to the national championship in 2020 came up short to Alabama, clearly talented enough on multiple levels to be a big time Pro has tremendous arm is one of the best athletes at the position to ever come out, and he plays with the slow heartbeat that exudes confidence. An ideal fit for a redshirt year. The NFL top shelf athlete competitors for the position that is a credible dual threat can create something out of nothing with his legs and will gain plenty of yards. After contact. He has the body of a thick running back, and we'll truck over. Defenders can launch the ball with a simple flick of the wrist has good deep All accuracy isn't afraid to test it tremendous balance and lower body control to consistently give him a dependable base to throw quick and explosive when he decides to run, durable, shakes off arm tackles can take and give a hit. He sees the field understands what he is seeing. We have seen him with excellent ball accuracy and placement over the past two years at all levels Short medium and long. Did he miss or overthrow wide open receivers? Yes, but not many. And if you haven't missed a few you haven't played an impact player was starter ability. So that's a pretty darn good breakdown of Justin Fields. The Bears quarterback that the question is. How long exactly will it be before he actually gets out on the field? Yeah. That unproven as he is, is a rookie just to hear that be described, and that be the Bears quarterback is something that doesn't seem real. It doesn't. It's like there's like we're talking about a quarterback who was drafted by somebody else, or we're watching a movie like It's not embarrassed thing. And a nice, smart terrorist. You know, hell take he'll take chances. He has the good accuracy of deep balls. And that's one of the huge problems we have with Mr Risky. There were other things couldn't read defense have been when he did throw deep They were he could not complete him. Let's grab another call. Let's go on North side, Derek. Hello, Derek. Hey, How's it going, fellas going? Well, listen, you're you're not gonna have two systems. The only gonna have one. That means that you will listen to what pace At his interview, he said. We have the infrastructure here. To create a system and create an environment that justice feels to thrive and that's the case. Then you're not going to create a second system for Andy Dalton to thrive because Eddy Dalton is not a mobile quarterback. He is a pure pocket. Pass it So you're not gonna just it feels can't learn on the sideline off system that isn't tailored for him, primarily Dissolution that was being said looking what Maggie did with Mrs Stravinsky. I think that on Lasky said it best. He said, negative is going to have to do something with Justin Fields He refused to do with Mr Comiskey. He didn't tell offense. It was completely around what they can't can do and what he can't do to bring him along. Slowly. Justin Fields is negatives. Last sense I'm gonna eat paste. Uh, itself. What happened right in the middle. Eric appreciate the call Derek Reese of a great point, And as soon as he started mentioning it, I was thinking about it. And yet Andy Dalton is going to be a different, crowded quarterback that Justin Fields is, but the one thing is, the fields can actually play from the pocket and that may be where he needs to get better. And learn in the NFL. I'm really eager to see how it all plays out. I'm eager to see how it works. I'm eager to see what happens when they get the weirdest part about the draft and the NFL draft is Okay, we are today. May 1st there will not be a game until September. So it's bizarre. How we get to wait three months now, 34 months before we actually get to see football being plays you got May June July August September CF four full months before there's gonna be games the count Now we'll see over the next couple of will see over today. What the what else? The Bears pick up then what other undrafted free agents they pick up and then how they do this as they get out there and to have O t A's and I know that a.
Heir apparent? Bucs draft Trask as Brady backup
"Super Bowl champion Buccaneers used the last pick of the second round of the draft to take Florida quarterback Kyle Trask as a backup to Tom Brady Trask true for almost 4300 yards and 43 touchdowns for the Gators last season.
Final 2021 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings: Trevor Lawrence and Then What?
"So guys let's start off with the quarterbacks as this is probably the least eventful group especially because we just let mark handle this position group. Because that is his forte his speciality. We don't even really need to go through the ordering or anything specific with this one as we're going to do it the other position groups but the thing that's worth noting is it. Mark was highly reluctant to really go past mack jones and then after thinking it over he threw in kellyn mind. Davis mills kyle. Trask jamie newman. And that was pretty much it so i think we can all agree here that the quarterback class in in this year's nfl draft isn't exactly very good on the back end. There's a lot of really good talent at the top but as we start to push towards the second and third round like we don't even have a third rounder in this group. There's not really a lot of good options now. It doesn't really tier that way. Joe obviously you have the tran said quote unquote time trevor. Lawrence. and then. There's a lot of debate on who that actual second quarterback would be adjusted sales from ohio. State zack wilson from byu. Mac from alabama. It seems like the jets. Presume that zack wilson from byu. And i mean. There's a lot of rumors that three the san francisco forty niners are really all in on mac jones but we'll find that out next thursday. It's gonna be interesting. I mean outside of the top five quarterbacks in legit all five of them could go for the giants would be ideal for the new york giants. That would be absolutely but outside of those five. It's it's kind of a crap shoot between callum on. I'll trask davis mills. Yeah i actually wasn't surprised to of see the look of pain almost on mark's face when he had to we almost twisted his arm into throwing out his like second and fourth round quarterbacks. This is a very top heavy quarterback draft class and part of that could just be the position. Where if you've got a quarterback who is able to be accommodated starter. He's probably going to be a first rounder and probably a high first

"New Year's Eve Eve to you. Scott Reese carry Crowley. Playing out the string here a couple of good weeks on KNBR these sports later. It's been fun. They haven't kicked us out. Yeah, thank you Know they still got 24 minutes to officially kick us out. Not unlike the Florida quarterback has been kicked out. No, he's back. He's back comes must look really bad for that back up, So I just know just threw a dime like a 20 yard pass to the sidelines. So, but Kyle Trask, who has been touted as a potential first round draft pick, and now he's like in and out, alternating with Jones, the backup for a Florida as the Cotton Bowl is in full swing. Still What every 10 minutes into this game, and it's 17. Nothing Oklahoma over Florida. Yeah, just a nightmare for Florida, which had nearly every good player on this roster. Opt out aside for Cal Trask, who presumably is trying to play his way into a better draft position, potentially for the 40 Niners, and it's not. We're not working. No, too early picks on and X and they nearly threw another interception. So we should change gears. Indeed, that's enough. Florida Gators about the Cotton Bowl. You're probably watching the cotton. I'm sure Marty Larry's tuned in Gator Span S O. We teach this before the break. This is such a complicated question in 2020, but Bay Area Sports person of the year. Really difficult questions really hard question because you could go team by team and ask who's the Giants Player of the year? Who's the Sharks? Player of the year? Who's the Warriors? Player of the year? Since Steph didn't play Baird basically at all into? You're basically looking at Eric Paschal, right? I mean, you know again, I mean, so that's the thing and you just go down. You go up and down 40. Niners is a different discussion, but Now, If look 40 Niners, you do have the playoff and Super Bowl run in January. So technically since that is 2020, you know you could look at this a little differently. And you could throw out of Raheem Mostert, I guess, but it just doesn't seem now that feels that feels ages ago. I was like you're cheating. I haven't started balding. Yet when? When the 40 Niners were back playing in Miami in February, so Yeah, it's uh It's probably Eric Paschal for the Warriors, right? I'm having for the Sharks its team of mire like that's you know, it's it's It's that kind of year, right and Amazing to juxtapose that went at this time Last year I was doing these shows and I did a look back at the decade in Bay Area sports giants three titles warriors and we all know about that dominance. 40 Niners have been do the Super Bowl and were on their way to a Super Bowl. I mean, things were looking really good for the San Frisco, 40 Niners franchise and now All three of the major sports organization and you throw in the Oakland A's who did make the playoffs this season. Just it's just a different year. Well, and that's the thing right. I mean, you gotta look almost instinctively toward the one team that did make the playoffs right? Not only make the playoffs but when a serious for the first time in forever, but And you were looking at this during the commercial break and we knew it was bad, but I don't think either one of us realized just how bad the A's were from a batting average standpoint. Last year. I hadn't remembered it being this bad. But if you throw out Tommy lost Ella who came over, you know two thirds of the way into the season and hit 2 89 in 27 games and Jake Lamb, who was an emergency pickup you when Chapman got hurt and had to 67 in 13 games, If you talk about the guys who were with you were regulars from start to finish. The highest batting average in that lineup was marked Canada to 46. That's that's almost impossible. We have been taught to devalue batting average because baseball teams too, but not that not that much exactly like there's got to be someone hitting above 2 50. If you're making the playoffs, I don't know how the A's did it. It's obviously the cushion top teams in the league doing that. So maybe we should be devaluing it completely. I don't know. I guess you had a lot of home runs and the pitching was great. And that's the answer. But my goodness, Liam Hendriks, Chris Bassett carried that. Yeah, I mean it. Hendricks is probably the guy Patrick says he's got to be. So Are you comfortable saying anointing? Liam Hendricks is the Bay Area Athlete of the Year in 20 sports per sports person of the year. I am not okay because This is the year if you're ever gonna do a lifetime achievement award. This is the year to do it. That's so cheating. Tara VanDerveer. Okay, Well, this is so I'm glad you said that because that would that I was gonna go there. Chief deserves it. Then it's not just a lifetime achievement award. She also just became the all time winningest coach in in history. That's what basketball so I'm in agreement. Tar gets my vote, too. Doesn't she have one of her? Better? Better teams ever. By the way, they're number one in the country right now. So Tara VanDerveer is the Bay Area Sports person. The Iran Net. I'm so glad you were a baby with the fill in host Murph in Mac went with. They did there Murph and Mackey awards a few weeks ago before they took their holiday break. They went with Mikey Stransky. Finished eighth in National League M V P voting. Yeah, I mean, you know, sure, although I would argue again, it's sort of apples and oranges Mikey Stransky, Liam Hendriks. But you know, one guy was the closer of the year. And you know all of baseball, at least the American League right on an all Star. So you know, I probably give the nod to Hendricks. But it's you know, again, it's It's apples to oranges, Mikey.

"5 31 On a Wednesday afternoon on news radio, K L. B. J been clinics and Nick Heidi sitting in for Jason and Vito Big, thanks to Brian Davis for joining US last segment to recap last night's Alamo Bowl game. There's a lot to be helpful, helpful Texas fans. It's There's a lot of positive sides. There's ah, a lot of young guns to be excited for, and the future is bright for this Texas Longhorns teams. It's gonna be a long off season with Ah, lot of a lot of questions to be to be answered, but There will be a season next year, and that season will be filled with the young players that are hungry to make their mark on the Texas Longhorns and even better we should know who our leaders are, You know, with the marriage over Shawn on be John Robinson like way know what the blueprint is now, and it's just go out there and can you build it and have what you build? Look like the blueprint. Tonight. The Cotton Bowl takes place in Dallas, Texas. Number seven Florida takes on Number six. Oklahoma is a strange situation because this is a a Florida team who looks rather good. All season long had had to Three pretty, You know, strange losses and in Oklahoma team who started out so poor and finish the season hotter than a deep bowled stove. This is in Vegas. This is what we call the huh? The line started out where when they announced this game, Florida was a three point favorite when the lines opened up right now, as it has you have it in Vegas, Oklahoma is an eight, a half point favorite. And that is because three of Florida's top pass catchers have opted out this week for this game tray Von Grimes kid Darius Tony and tied in Kyle pits all will not be making the trip to Dallas tonight. And that leaves quarterback Kyle Trask. With the whole lot of nothing on a team that lives and dies. On the past. Their rush game has been pretty mediocre the SEC for their team this year, I cannot be What wonder heist the line, Not a little more for Oklahoma. Cal Trask, who is One. There's an argument to me that he is the top passer and in college football right now is going to be really shorthanded tonight in this Cotton Bowl. Yeah, but what we were, what were we doing yesterday talking about valuable time. But how's Texas replace? All these guys are after them and how they just I mean, Look, Florida it's been a while since they were at the top of the cultural world, But they're still Florida. They're still recruiting and a huge hotbed of high school football. He should be able to have guys come in there. Now they do run a pro style offense, so maybe you're gonna have issues. You can't either run your full offense, So you have to simplify things for the young guys. But I'm taking Oklahoma and I'm taking them just because of their experience in this moment of being played and the bowl games, and they have a champion's pedigree. But I think it will be. I think I think Florida will go to go out there still do a lot of what they want to do. Oklahoma six straight New Year six Bull, Florida's third in a row. This will be a very telling game for the future of Oklahoma, a team that like I said to start the season, they were cold. They didn't know what they were doing. Their offense had no rhyme, a rhythm and Forces into the season. They must treat away toe almost make it to the cultural playoffs. A ended up being number six in the country, a big surprised too real most of the cultural fans out there who who thought he was gonna be either coastal Carolina or really anybody but Oklahoma. But they finished the season so hot and so prepared for next season that it's It's an Oklahoma team. That is scary, and it's a team that I would not want to play right now. And I would not be surprised if Oklahoma wins his game by two touchdowns. Their their freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler. He is Really somebody to be reckoned with here in the next couple seasons and but player that Has maybe the brightest future in the big 12 and a guy that we will see in New York, the Heisman finalist here in the next two seasons, But this Oklahoma team is, I think to make a statement tonight that they are the future of cultural and potentially maybe we will finally see Oklahoma holding the national championship trophy here in the next two years. I mean, look, if we're based on how this game works out tonight, you could be very excited about big 12 the next couple years because you're gonna have to really good young teams in Oklahoma and Texas that should be fighting for this thing. Um, I do think that this is gonna trust Lincoln Riley. We talked about how awesome Tom Herman is in ballgames. Liquid rallies where I feel like he's gonna have his team ready. And it's just going to let you know whether Florida could come in there with their their physicality of the SEC team, which who knows if that's real or if that's manufactured by certain broadcasting companies, But You know if they can, then? Yeah, you're you're you're set up and Oh, my God. How nice. Would it be? If well, Oklahoma gets upset will be faced with the high of Texas and the lobe Oklahoma. This isn't so it's funny and college football, you'll see. This is mostly in the S E. C. I have a lot of buddies that went to schools of the SEC and For some strange reason. The SEC is a conference where they root for each other in bowl games..

"And if you haven't heard of me, you know, s O. I'm with CBS Sports Radio. I typically do the weekend overnights here. You can catch me on a Saturday into a Sunday. 2 to 6 on the East Coast. It's 11. To what 11 to 3 on the West Coast. There we go. Math. I was never great at it. So happy to be in for J. R Today now Let's talk about a little bit. With the Heisman here, Okay, Because the Heisman is I mean one. It's a massive award. Right? There's something to be said for being named the best player in college football. Whether or not you're good pro right? There's different guys over the years that have won the award, and when they go pro, they don't become anything. The most notable part of that is Tim Tebow, whose claim to fame at this point is being a minor league baseball player for the last nine years or whatever he's been doing like that. That's I mean, that's Tim Freaking Tebow we're talking about. That's a top of the line all time Great college football player, But he won the Heisman and how great he was a college player that adds to the gravity of winning the award, putting yourself on that kind of status. And who are the guys that got nominated for this year? Well, Some great days. I mean, the candidates are obviously great selections. You don't get to be I Heisman finalist and be some kind of schlub. But let's run down the list. Real quick, so first choice. Is Kyle Trask. Now Kyle Trask quarterback in Florida, and he's got the numbers. If you're making the raw numbers case, Kyle Trask is your guy over 4000 yards passing He's got this thing is wild. He's got 43 passing touchdowns 43. He's got 43 passing touchdowns and five interceptions. So Kyle Trask. Amazing season really good player. Fun prospect. There's there's a lot of good things with Kyle Trask just went toe to toe with Alabama in the S E. C championship game. Now they lost that game, and that's really the knock against Kyle Trask. If you're going to make the case based on How these things typically go being eight and three, losing the last two games and one of those games being a lost ls you He's probably not winning the award. As good as the numbers are the fact that he's a quarterback and this is typically quarterback award. I don't think I'll Trask walks away with it. I think it's good that he got the nomination. He certainly worthy of that. But It's called football talking about. I mean, is this the establishment that rewards people for losing? No, No, they're not. So I mean, you could make the argument with Texas A and I'm not getting in right? They gotta lost its Alabama. It's not good enough. So they're out like it's it is what it is you you've got to be undefeated. That's usually what they're looking for, or I lost. You know, you can't have three so Don't see that happening for Kyle Tres. Next guy nominated Trevor Laurence, which is not a surprise. And Trevor Lawrence is one of the best prospect to come out the draft in quite some time. So you look at that you go. Okay, Well, yeah. Trevor Laurence of Of course he's nominated for the Heisman. Is he gonna win? What are his chances? I don't think they're very good. And this is where it really gets Interesting because for Trevor Laurence, he doesn't have the numbers right? Trask has the numbers in every way. He looks great. But for Trevor Laurence, it's the idea of Inouye career achievement. I mean, you look at what he's done over the course of his career for the numbers that he's put up for Clemson to be where they are losing to Notre Dame previously with illegal alien beating Notre Dame pretty badly. Just like last week. Those things go to Trevor Large. The idea that he's the walk in number one pick in the draft, those kinds of things matter. So when you pile all that up the gravity of Trevor Laurence the achievement of Trevor Laurence and what the team has done this year. You can say he's the best talent. In college football because he's a quarterback that is the top of the line quarterback prospect. But is he the best player in college football this year? That's a different conversation. That's that's a little bit different, You know, So that's the problem for Trevor Laurence. He's not the best player. He's not having the best season in college football. He's not the guy So now you get to the last two guys. And, interestingly enough, the last two Heisman candidates are teammates. So here's the real intrigue of it all, is Mack Jones quarterback and Alabama and Devante Smith, wide receiver. Alabama. So now you've got two different guys on the same team that are directly connected to each other quarterback in the running game connected sure, but not Absolutely connected to the hip. Unless you've got a running back that catches, you know, 70 passes in a year. It's just a little bit different. They're not exactly the same, but they're related. When you've got the wide receiver who is catching all of his passes from the quarterback, you have to make a decision between with both of these guys were nominated for the Heisman. You've got to choose which one is more responsible for the numbers and the success. Then the other, and that's a tough thing to do. That's a tough thing to do. So how do you do it? Right. How do you solve the problem of Devante Smith or Matt Jones? And who's your Heisman winner?.

It's it's just a fun time and a uncharacteristic time in the way of sports and how this year shakes out right. Like you think of Christmas. MBA, totally natural, but the start of the season and Christmas and en bas so trying to figure out what all of these brand new teams look like in abbreviated off season. Um, who's met expectations, for example, John Grant you put up 44 last night. I'm all in on that. I love me. Some John Durant couldn't be a bigger fan. So you see that you see Kevin Durant. All sorts of fun things. Obviously across the MBA. We're gonna get all that kind of stuff. The MBA juju Smith. Schuster has gotten a strong talking to. He won't be dancing on midfield anymore. I think that's a good decision. But we'll talk about that a little bit more later, although Tic Tac must be furious, so we'll talk about all of it. But first thing that we got to get into here. Would be doing a disservice if I did not do this. They just announced the Heisman candidates. Okay, so that's we're looking at right now is this evening We got the list of the top four people that have qualified to be the Heisman winner. So who are those four people, Vince? Well, that's a great question. Allow me to answer that for you. So let's start. With Kyle Trash. Kyle Trask quarterback in Florida. Just just a big, strong guy. You know, just one of those guys when you see him throw a football. The mechanics aren't always there. He's not the cleanest, smoothest passer. He's not this proto typical guy in that way, but When you watch him throw a football and you see the place that he makes you go while this kid is really got something special. It felt that way. Last year, he took a massive leap this year and for Florida they were, you know, they were in the top five Top six for the majority of the season, so Heck of a program. Kyle Trask at the center of that, and on the basic numbers of this 4125 yards passing 43 touchdowns by the way for Kyle Trask, 43 of them. And five interceptions. So heck of a year from Kyle Trask well deserving of being in the Heisman race, and now he's in the final four. Trevor Laurence. Surprise. I don't think anybody could have possibly imagine the Trevor Laurence of all people would be in the Heisman conversation. Yes, Trevor Laurence obviously was going to be here. We figured he'd be here before the season started. We figured this Ah, year ago that he'd be in the Heisman conversation this year. We figured two years ago, he would be in the Heisman conversation this year, so to find out the Trevor Lords Has been selected. It's like Yeah, um, tell me something new, but Here's the thing for Trevor Laurence, you know, had Cove it So Mr Big game against Notre Dame earlier in the season, obviously shredded Notre Dame later in the season, about almost 2800 yards passing 22 touchdowns, four picks the Golden boy, right and Trevor Laurence being the guy that at the center of Clemson Number two team in the country. Just been the phenomenon his whole career the guy that Jets fans are losing their minds over because they just blew a game by winning and now with one win there out of the Trevor large sweepstakes, so Trevor Laurence he gets in. He's listed in the Heisman finalist. But then here's where things really get interesting. Matt Jones. Alabama. Nominated for the Heisman but also Vontae Smith. Wide receiver at Alabama nominated for the Heisman. So now you've got two guys that directly impact each other in the quarterback and wide receiver and you're trying to figure out Who's worth more for the Heisman than the other. That's what's so incredibly fascinating about all this, because here's the thing Kyle Trask, as as amazing of the season is he had Again. 43 touchdowns in five interceptions is no joke. He's thrown over 400 yards a bunch of times He just played Alabama in the S E. C championship game took them to the limit like that dude can play. But Losing it. L s u three losses on the season. It's just not enough. It's just not enough. Is Kyle trash going to win the Heisman if you want to make a case Go for it open to hearing it, but I can't believe that he's going to win the Heisman over these other three guys. I don't see Kyle Trask winning this thing. It's not for him. Honestly. Same thing for Trevor Laurence. Don't see him. One of the Heisman is you're either Great season. Great player. He's going to be the number one pick in the draft. He should be the number one pick in the draft. There's no doubt in my mind that he should be the number one pick, whether it's the Jets. Whether it's the Jags. He's got to go number one. But Based on this season. What happened this year? Is he the best player in college? Football? No, he's not. So I'm not gonna qualify him. I mean, it comes down to Matt Jones and Devante Smith and who you think Out of those two should really win the award. And if you want to talk about it, I'm happy to take calls on this for like an hour. So let's roll with this. Let's have some fun. If you want to get in on the Heisman conversation, Who do you think should win? They just made the nominees here. Kyle Trask, Trevor large. Mack Jones, Devante Smith. 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. That's how you do on the show 855 to 1 to 4 to 27 on Vince Quinn, By the way in for J. R will come to you.

"On me the more I've watched them play this year. He'll Trask I was like, I thought he was not impressed with him last year many people like to me one games and that's good like he had good stats and stuff. But Kyle Trask is made so many. NFL level throws this year great ball locations actually down the sideline of back shoulder throws. I am so impressed with him. Kyle Trask reminds me a lot of Drew Brees where he's a guy who his wife is accuracy. His ball location is phenomenal. He's a good decision-maker. He doesn't have the strongest arm in the world. But I look at Kyle Trask and go he's a taller version and Drew Brees and if Drew Brees does retired long way, I desperately want to see New Orleans draft Kyle Trask. I think you'd be a great fit there. I mean imagine the dynamic dual you would develop between Kyle Trask and Michael Thomas in New Orleans. I mean his ball location thrown a Michael Thomas would be phenomenal and then also imagines how trash being coached by Sean Payton like, oh I want that so badly. And then there's mac Jones, Alabama quarterback, and I wonder if he's going to enter the NFL draft this year. I think it's a first round pick if he does he's at least in the conversation for Scherer. Really. I mean if if he enters the draft the number three quarterback off the four is going to be interesting because a team like for example Caroline if Carolina is the third team in the NFL draft who is picking a quarterback. Would they take Zach Wilson on the BYU or would they draft Mac Jones Alabama? It's actually a real conversation. I'm ahead of go. Mac. Jones has made a name for himself in a very very well and I mean Mac Jones play style reminds me a lot of Matt Ryan and it's kind of funny both Matt Ryan Matt. Ryan was coached by Steve sarkisian in Atlanta. The current offensive coordinator at Alabama right now is Steve sarkisian coaching Matt Jones. Maybe that's why they're footwork in the pocket looks similar, but both are not super mobile..
Harris scores 5 TDs, No. 1 Bama escapes No. 11 Florida 52-46
"Najee Harris scored five touchdowns made number one Alabama to a fifty two forty six victory over seventh ranked Florida in the SEC championship game Harris had two rushing TD's and three on passes from mac Jones who also had a stellar night passing for four hundred and eighteen yards Harris says it's not been an easy year a lot of those happen this year but the cold of course all the injustice that has happened let distractions out there a lot of stuff going on those take seriously arm but you know just to have these hats on of course the designer you know because we at first we know who's going to play or not Florida quarterback Kyle Trask was also impressive throwing for two touchdowns and four hundred and eight yards passing Gary McPhillips Atlanta

"Yeah, you bought us Well, you took control on that like that. But I was in your camp. I didn't think that there was a Niner to rule. This one touchdown is what's so hard when you get those plays where there's like, literally 22 bodies all sandwich together in about a five yard radius. Um, you just You need to see like the football coming out of the arm and clearly reach across the plane of the goal line. But we didn't see that black. I'm always in your camp. You know that? Oh, that I appreciated. Are you in my camp, but the ball's going to Kyle Trask. I am. I am surprised that he stayed in the shotgun and not just sneaking from under center from the one inch line second and goal. Trask out of the gun. Tony doubles back now motions wide to the left. It's trashed the whole way He's upended in the backfield. He lost the football. Then Alabama has recovered. Oh, what a disaster for Florida. There is a flag down at the goal line. In the initial signal is off sides against Alabama. Outside. On the defense number, 28 half the distance to the goal replay. Second down. Wow. That's on the corner. Josh job Alabama had come up with the stand on the goal line forced the fumble. And now Florida keeps it. They have another opportunity. Not only did they get to stop me, Cal Trask was stopped at about the two yard line. He was even close on this one, and the football gets knocked out. Great penetration early on in that play, But Josh Joe called for offsides gives him half the distance penalty. Will Anderson force that fumble again for Alabama? Now? Trask is under center. Hi formation. Couple of tight ends Tony in motion left to right dressed. The handoff. Damien Pierce off right tackle He knifes in touchdown. Florida Gators take advantage. Alabama called for the offside. No fumble. Instead, it's a Florida touchdown, and now they are within a score 45 37, even though Florida's not played their best game. They're still hanging around this one, and they've had a couple of very fortunate calls that have gone in their favor. But they continue to battle in this one, finally turning around to give the ball to a running back that punches in For the to the end zone, looking to cut this down to just 27 point lead heaven. McPherson, the Alabama native with the extra point and with 6 33 to play, It's now number one Alabama leading number seven Florida 45 38..

"The only receiver left four wide to the right from the left hash mark. Trask along count under 10 on the play clock, another keeper for the big quarterback Trask off right guard inside the five, lowering the shoulder down to the three. So another keeper for Kyle Trask, second and goal now at the three Nick Saban's on the sidelines, basically yelling at his defense. You know what they're gonna do, because that time the same thing Alabama just out to the extra receiver, So they had four down linemen and one linebacker in the box. And so Cal Trask is looking at saying I got numbers. I got five offensive language. Just cover them up. I'll do the rest on my own second and goal at the three from the left hash Mark Trask hands to his running back, make one right slices in for the touchdown. Florida still in it here in Atlanta. They cut it to a one score game. It's 35 30, Alabama. Two great blocks on that plane number one, Stuart Reese, the right guard ends up climbing up and he gets a block on Jordan battle and then Kyle pits comes and seals off the back side and kind of like a trap style block. Those two guys were critical and getting right into the end zone. Haven't McPherson, the right foot kicker, high snap. Finn puts it down and the kick is good, so Florida has scored 14 unanswered to begin this second half. It's now. Alabama 35, Florida 31 With 18 seconds remaining.

Chris Doering talks Florida and Georgia
"We welcome in chris during Who gives us her. Quite a look ahead to tomorrow's game. Chris in most years florida hosting lsu of the sec this week. It's been pretty quiet. I am curious as you know those two teams so well especially from florida side What what are they thinking as they get one of their bitter rivals in a bitter rival that they are a prohibitive favorite. It is weird. Isn't it paula. Me and thinking back to win. This game was originally scheduled. I thought most lsu people felt like we're gonna get a chance to play later in the year we'll get healthier. We'll get miles brennan back. We'll be in better position. And i would argue that. They're actually in a worse position now than when they were originally scheduled in october. So i it's kind of a weird dynamic with a lotta florida. Fans looking forward to sec. Championship game next weekend for me. This is all about. Florida has nothing to do with their opponent. Lsu it's about getting right offensively full full-fledged dress rehearsal right costumes everything. Let's go for what we're gonna do next week. I i honestly been kind of disappointed with florida's offensive performance. The last three weeks dating back to the vanderbilt came. Because they just look inconsistent. They look like they walk through a haze periods of time. They look like they're not executing and part of it's their own fault for looking so good against arkansas in the second half and missouri against georgia. We set the bar pretty high for them but focused level has not been there for a full sixty minutes. I want to see all fence. Get back to executing at the level. They were early in the year defensively. Let's get some things shored up. Let's figure out how to keep from giving up these long passing plays. Let's get generate some more pressure on the quarterback. Let's be able to to penetrate and stop the run something. I thought they did. Well against tennessee last week but The thing i'm gonna keep my paul. What are the numbers for. Kyle trask because obviously this is a game as you said against a A bitter rival one. That beat florida by fourteen. Last year florida's got a chance to return the favor but they also have a chance to outduel in back to back weeks what mack jones get did against the very same defense. And don't think that winning the heisman trophy is not something that dan mullen really wants. For contrast and something that will help his program significantly going forward in on that subject. How do you compare. Kyle trash to meg jones. And that's really his main competition now and that we know we know what had next two weeks especially next week but what what what what separates college trask. If anything well first of all. I love both of these guys you know as a former receiver. I love the the accuracy. I love the the the way they re defenses and get the ball to the right guy. On what the defense is dictating But i would go back and say kyle. Traffic is probably had a tougher. Time than what mack jones at and. That's not taking anything away. From mac ios but look at how. Good this offense of line is for alabama. Look at how well they've run the football over the last six games or so look at what. Najji harris has done. Devante smith the reason why iraq jones's numbers look so good on the deep passes over twenty yards and no disrespect. Mac has been really accurate. But when you're throwing a guy that's five yards behind the nearest defender. It makes it a little bit easier. So again i think without the run game florida certainly not able to run the football very well. I don't think they're offensive. Line is the most consistent So i think the load that kyle. Trask bears a little bit harder to to carry them. What jones does now with that being said. Look at the weapons of florida has i. I don't think i've ever been able to say at least in recent years. That florida has more receiving weapons around their quarterback than what alabama does. They've been absolutely loaded but Looking at the way that that not only kind of is utilized trayvon. Grimes justin shorter. All those receivers. Jacob copeland has come on as well Forgetting about tony. Who might be one of the biggest Factor mismatch guys in the sec. Right now but the way. They use the running backs as well. That was something that we saw against georgia so a lot of different guys. That are helping. Kyle trask out. But i think with the advantage that alabama has on the offensive line and that run game to complement the throws down the field. I think kyle may have a little bit more of a impressive Season just because of how much he's had to do himself chris. Couple of games. I want to ask you about one. Particular auburn at mississippi state mississippi state has been up and down we. We've been through that conversation. But i'm really curious about auburn. Because they've had some really good moments this year and then some clunkers especially lately. I know what you're doing here paul. You love it. When i go off on auburn and it's been up and down year with them right early in the season. I was really down on him. I was starting to get A little bit more positive with the way they were able to run the run the football figuring out who they were with take bixby and that offensive line and then they got hit with a bunch of injuries up front Bixby was was banged up.

"Is the college Football Rewind for the first time in four years. Florida wins in Jacksonville. Dan Rubinstein, co host of the solid verbal podcast gives us his thoughts on Florida's win over Georgia and what it means for both teams over the next month. It's time. To talk about the cocktail party. Is it still called that I have no idea. But it's Florida. Georgia, Georgia, Florida Whatever you want it to be. I wanted to be as entertaining as it wass. Absolutely, especially if you're a Florida fan. But Georgia looked like it was going to be all dog all day. Early on, going up, 14 nothing before you had a chance to make yourself a sandwich, and I don't know flush a toilet. Seven, Florida kept the faith slowly started hitting receivers Kyle Trash got into a rhythm spread the ball around Kyle pits eventually gets hurt. But nonetheless, Kyle Trask was getting into the running backs was getting it to receivers. Help was everywhere, and Georgia beat up on defense just didn't have the depth just didn't have a play to play to hang with the Gators and on offense. Stets and Bennett wasn't the answer. He goes down. Heard he hurts his shoulder. It's an A C sprained Juan Mathis was not the answer, and to George's credit receivers were open receivers were getting behind Gator DBS, and they just weren't getting the ball. And if we're going to talk about a team good enough to win the SEC East and perhaps get revenge on Alabama. It's not going to be Georgia this year. It doesn't seem like it's going to be. Florida has their own issues on defense. But there are none. It looks like right now on offense. They couldn't really run the ball. But again, it didn't matter. Kyle Trask looks like a Heisman caliber quarterback period, which is amazing from where he came from, not expected to contribute all that much to not only closing the gap between Florida and Georgia. But surpassing the dogs throwing for 400 plus yards against still a very good dog defense, even though it's beat up incredible to see his development, his evolution as a Florida gator and now in the driver's seat of the SEC east. Wow. What What a story for Kyle Trask and the Gators, Florida also very good on third downs, though some of that is yes. Missed open receivers for Georgia. Nonetheless, Florida is your cocktail party champ and a strange year. Strange things happening. This kind of felt normal for once. I don't know. "Did in the opener against Vandy. Yeah, they won the game by five points, but it was sluggish to say the least. I'd like to see them again. I know they're playing without their best receiver with augment, But I would think they may be ableto hang with Florida if they could get some pressure on Kyle Trask, your take on this one. Yeah, Again. I know there's a lot of trends favor, detective saying, and I will look at what I see the eye test. I cannot back telling month in a big spot now playing at home in Kyle Field, would it shocking at Texas A and M strikes? The upset over Kyle trashed in Florida? No, not at all. I mean, you know anybody could be knocked off and then any given Saturday. We know that I just looked at the secondary protective saying that my soul Mack Jones put up 400 yards. Plus, they're given up to 92 for a game and trance just to me. We're going with that combo between transfer. And pick They have something going the way Jo burrow on Jefferson and Chase did last year. I'm gonna go with the hot steam with Florida. No. Defensively. They haven't stepped up now, one of my better selections for the weekend, but I was going to Florida picked them is the best team in the East. I'm not backing down. I mean, they haven't shown me anything. They're not believes that they are, in fact, the best team over Georgia. I'm gonna stick with Florida lay in the small number 67 with the Gators on the road and Kyle field He's Jolie See at go for the two follow. Joe does a great job right now. I just want to update the Padres have loaded the bases with two out Eric Hosmer, who homered earlier off Kershaw is batting.

"A big completion where he's extending the play through the ball literally goes right through a Falcons Defenders Hands Landsberg completion for the bears but that really wasn't. Play, that should of completion there were little moments like that where you go nick foles really. Has a lot to be desired but at the very least he was way way better trubisky than trubisky simply for the fact that he was finally throwing the ball downfield it's like, thank you, goodness. Please elise the bears have a quarterback who isn't just holding onto the ball not throwing verdict two guys who are wide open downfield. I I hope that. Nick foles is the answer. Long term for the Chicago bears I'm not sure that he is time will tell. But one hundred and ten percent. He is a much better option than Mitch Trubisky is and I just man I'm so glad that. Nick foles is now the quarterback risky in fact is no longer the quarterback in Chicago. Now, the Falcons had an opportunity to win this game. It was Atlanta Atlanta had the ball one minute fifty three left down four points. and. The Falcons were in fact even driving. When that Ryan Falcons quarterback threw an interception it's like Oh that's painful. The bears are playing cover to matt throws. This corner route just hangs up in the air almost as if you didn't see that there was a safety they're. Like he didn't realize it's one of the easiest interceptions. Safety is ever GonNa have where Matt Ryan Got Drive that ball against cover to to the sideline. I just wondered the Falcons at this point have A. Culture Really of blowing leads happen. So frequently in Atlanta that they below a fourth quarter lead. It's got gotta be in their heads at this point where they're thinking men were up we can't blow this lead. We can't let what happened happened in in the Super Bowl. The can't do what we did against the cowboys. Now, the bears like we can't let what happened against Chicago. And it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. For. ATLANTA. And, unfortunately, I believe they need to hit the reset button. Didn't need a new coach they need new leadership need to try and make some changes. It's crazy. The Falcons even had the ball. Late in the game with the lead, before the bears took the lead, the Falcons had the ball four minutes left with they were up twenty six to twenty three or three point lead. And the Falcons called three straight passing place just completely crazy to me I'm like..

"It's hard to watch. He treats the media like they're his friend and I I don't know if I don't really consider myself part of the media because I try to be I, consider myself a storyteller even though it's not quite true. But, let me tell you the people at a press conference after a game are not your friend the people conducting those interviews, writing stories Monday morning, the Sunday, the NFL game in New York especially. Do not help them they. They will burn you for money in an instant. The first question of the day, for Sam, darnold was. You had three interceptions take me through those three interceptions. It's don't answer that your answer should be some form of a f you know and instead for some reason. Sam Darnold did he took them through every single interception and I'm watching thinking stop talking? Stop talking. Holy Cannoli, he's still talking looking at my dad down watching dealer Mike Sam stop talking shut up dude. And I've said before that. The only reason the jets should draft a quarterback in the upcoming draft is if they believe they need to replace Sam darnold because. His spirit is broken or confidence is just completely shot. And in that press conference Sam darnold looked. I don't know. We'll see how the goes on and that post game press conference he looked beaten dejected and lost. And I'm sitting my dad and I were watching this and I'm looking at my dad and wondering like. Where Sam Darnold Dad whereas this dudes father? What's happening here? Why is nobody helping Sam darnold like I mean the jets media PR team is just Failing him horribly, why is no one ushering out of the room telling him to shut up say a little bit less at a press conference I don't understand. I just oh my gosh. You know what? Sam Darnold has problems but You Watch. The dude play football his talent is undeniable. He looks a lot like you did at USC where Sam is really good and he'll elevate your team a little bit but he's got some game break like watch watch Ohio state whereas USC when I was in college. There's bad throat. There's an ugly interceptions. Yes. Still see that couple years out of college It's like, Okay Sam's got to get better at some point. But. It still makes me sad to feel like Sam darnold development is a massive missed opportunity where the guy has the talent and he's never had a good team around him and he's never had a good coach. You can say, wow, i. feel good about this coach and let's talk about that coach because. I gotTa say first of all, my number one message to. Any young quarterback whether they're in high school college I believe it or not I do talk to some guys that are going to the NFL and I always tell them in avoid a bad program. Avoid a bad organisation avoided bad college football program or an organization or franchise avoid them like the plague because. And this is not just football advice. I guess honestly either. You do not want to work for a dysfunctional station a bad company with bad leadership poorly run. It's not good for you as a human being if you can avoid it, do it now some of US jobs and we can't avoid it, and that's a painful reality of life but if you can do not work for a bad organization. I look at Jonesboro I. Think you'll borough has a better opportunity than Sam Darnold to do..
