Jeremiah was on the program In the first hour. Ian rapoport Here in our number two. There's just been news absolutely everywhere breaking over the weekend and And certainly because of the nfl draft and This this next guest right here. On the rich eisen show was a news maker to say the least. Because he and john lynch and funded the program jet york got together and decided to trade up to the third overall pick in the draft and then that was the biggest mystery going into the draft solved on thursday night with the selection of trae lance. Kyle shanahan here on the rich eisen show head coach of the forty niners. How're you coach. Doing good rich how you doing better for talking to you man. You're you're you're you're press conferences were must see television. Are you aware of that over the last several weeks. I have been made aware of that. I don't know if that's my total goal. No to try to change that. I know you are not put on the planet to have must see television Press conferences. But you know you traded up your aggressive and then you could not have been more honest with the with the with with the way that you are assessing everything. Let's walk into a. When did trae lance have you. Did he have you at. Hello walk me through the process of when you decided. This is the kid for us. I think that's i mean. Obviously everyone wants to know that. And that's a hard time not explaining the answer exactly and then i realized explained. That will probably take me an hour. So i ended up giving way too long of answers Someday maybe i'll write a book on blake. It's not just as simple. The first time you see him. It's a slam dunk. Yes and that's what. I was trying to explain that. When i looked at him in january. The first time. I've finished with a tape. I was just gone through about four games and I collected a bunch of stuff and send it over to john night and i was so excited and intrigued by the stuff that you can do with them. And you'd look the part in so many ways is a quarterback and then look into the running elements. So i was kind of just an amyloid with all that stuff from the get-go And then when you move out to the spa we do. You got such a long process do it. The right way so the way. I felt at the beginning back in january. I'm not gonna just sit there and allow myself to be in stone. I always joke my wife my wife crazy but the way by houses I think. I like something but then i tell her every single thing. That's wrong about it. I tell the the real estate age everybody and then she's almost in tears thinking i hate it and then my car i want that happen and i'm like i'm just checking my cell. And the like we love him from the beginning but then you got you know we. We were trying to make that trade early february. So and i think we gotta done a little over a month ago but for about two and a half months. I'm looking into everything and try not to jump to conclusions. Too fast but Interviewing every coach interviewing every scout having guys come in. I'm trying to. I don't want people in our office to know which way i'm leaning Because you can go sydney so different directions and they're also good candidates But just to play out the process the way we did too where i got to know the kid after watching the tape. And that was kinda the coolest thing to where i really started to like trade as a person As a person to be the quarterback your team just believing the leader. It could be How much she gets so can how important it was to him. And i think the best thing for me was if i would have done the process the opposite way and so i was trying to tell peter on this weekend but if i would have done the kid i i probably would've fell in love with the guy and then i would been like man. Do i hope this match and and and that's kind of when you know the guy did the tape. I which i felt so good about which you know you played the two thousand and twenty season on those kind of scary..

"One of the sharpest minds and our business and The the guy who longwood lynch and jed york who's gonna be on tomorrow show The owner of the niner said. Let's choose trae lance who on his behalf on behalf of forty niners fans. I'm so happy for them. What a choice. I think they nailed that choice. They nailed that choice. And i think he was the better choice out of out of everybody that was out there in terms of upside. And that's not. That's not anything against justin fields. I i know that sounds like it is. But i don't know i just think that trae lance has got a huge upside in the national football league in the hands of kyle shanahan. He's in great shape. Chris brockman we already eight jones. Our number one you said. He's like a minivan when you wanted. You wanted a sports car a little flash well. Here's a sports car. Sports car was free agency. I enjoy free agents really enjoy that. It was a top down crews in the beat. That was good. That was your that. Was your mentor. World peace racing. An economy car through. Westwood aren't okay. I feel you that right faye on Tj jefferson good to see you. You want a defense. That's all the dallas cowboys gave first Couple rounds i told you get too involved with my dealings but you know we. We had some talks. And i said look guys defense. That's the way we need to go and they listen to. Well me about it on twitter during the first round because i stay off at i'm you know i don't have anything spoiled you know and plus you know but i do look down at my phone to see some text. If there's people trying to reach me the information glean you were very upset. Based on when i started scrolling up on the rich eisen show text exchange when the cowboys traded out at ten with the eagles like the urine. You're you're you're not happy about that. I did an odd trade party. I don't like dealing with the eagles. Oh plus i was mad at carolina to start with me in a bad mood. 'cause they took jc horn and then ser tan went in this or corner for you. But then i realize this is going to go our way and we made the move down and mike. Parsons is the man we love chatting with him. We love chatting with him. Linebacker cornered tackle and corner linebacker. That's it man. Those are first six. We got chauncey golsen with the pick. I believe some the be really watching his career and shirt because he blows up because because we got the could've taken parsons right. There and the eagles wanted to move in front of the giants before they could take devante smith and the fact that the cowboys said guests to the eagles is the reason. Why maybe if the giants giants wanted devante smith. They're like we'll trade out and get a one and a four from the bears so they could trade up and take justin fields. I mean that's the domino tumble the fact that the eagles like we want the pick. Jerry okay no problem. We'll take a three from you. We still want michael. Parsons you go ahead web. No problem that scott screws the giants. We know it helps you. But here's the giants go ahead. We'll take eighty fourth overall. We still want mike. Parsons gonna run. The risk of the giants taken him. That's for sure but then bears trade up for justin fields by the way the giants get a one three and a four in next year's draft the trade down and they got the guys they wanted to and we talked all week about gettleman never trading down and it was the genius move. Thought it worked out. It seems like who seems like i mean. The bears seemed like they gave up a lot. But we'll see bears fans are tax rate. I know because they feel like that. Because the reason why bears fans are ecstatic. Right now is because this is what we hit. When when when andy dalton was announced as the new quarterback in town and then whoever whatever millennial runs their twitter account tweets outdoor photograph of dalton. A bears uniform says qb one on it at the moment. That was true. But you don't say that sort of stuff. And i made a choice. Like it's one of those choices that you make when you're sitting in a host share and there's a million things going on i'm like do i actually after justin fields choice mention that maybe just somebody take a look at the twitter feed. I can't get on twitter. I don't get on twitter. It's kind of a passive way for me to remind everybody at home. Remind everybody at home. That are not on twitter just in case they really think that it's a passive way for me to form that and also talk about what's on the screen right now on our peacock feed it's that. Qb one tweet on march twenty fourth and but that means that might be some twenty two twenty three twenty four year old who. I'm calling out on the draft. Do i do that do i take that shot. Do i make that shot. That's what's in my head in. The answer is yes. I took that shot now and the reason why the bears fans are thrown about justin fields is two two reasons. One that when the trubisky era that we all saw coming to an end when they all couldn't wait for it to end and it finally ends the the the pot of gold at the end of that rainbow was not in the mind's eye of bears fans in the form. Of andy dalton. In and nick foles competition. That's not what they had in mind. That's why when they when when they heard that russell wilson might be in the ether gal. Let's absolute take that yolo shot at russell wilson that falls flat. No here's qb one. Andy dalton running like really so. That's one of the reasons why they're excited about justice. Feels the other as you covet. What you see. And that's right in the middle of big ten country. And i'm sure everybody saw every down of justin fields career once he hit the ohio state university so they saw what he could do. They could do on the national stage against clemson this year. They thought he could do and what he could do. What he could do. Is not what. Andy was going to do this year. So let's go to work and it's aggressive and it's a smart move by ryan pace because if if you're sitting here saying okay if you're sitting here and knowing that you're hotseat with your fan base and kudos to the owners to basically say you're still have a job and go do what you wanna do. Not many people usually get a chance to choose a quarterback in the top two of a draft. Have that not work out and then have an opportunity to move up again in the first round draft and choose another quarterback and also hire another coach.

"Episode number thirty to the gold standard podcast part of the niners nation. Podcast network. i'm rob stats with me. As always is eleven black. What's going on eleven. Oh feel pretty good today. Working nights on my day job and woke up. This would be wednesday afternoon to some great news. This is the ricky watters edition of the gold standard podcasts. I see a smile on your face. You like that don't you. There's just so many ways you could take the ricky watters thing blair jerk you can go positive and negative with that one see. Both of those can be true though. Right like ricky was kind of a jerk. Any was also a really good player. Dude had like three touchdowns in the super bowl. Nobody seems to remember that if he wasn't such a big jerky it'd probably be in the hall of fame because he probably would have gotten more opportunity later in his career and his numbers are borderline hall of fame as they are. That is very good point. And you talked about waking up to the news. How many times have we said on this. Show that this is going to be an off season. Where literally you wake up and check your phone and say oh. Guess what this morning. When i looked at by phone the two i sort of came out of my mouth. Were oc- 'cause trent williams is back with the forty niners. It is a six year deal. It is a hundred and thirty eight million with like a thirty million dollar signing bonus. I think he gets like fifty five million guaranteed box. Congratulations trent. what was your first reaction. Didn't matter the cost. They had to sign him like not getting him. I put it out on twitter. Not getting him resigned. In the contention window there was no chance of contending in twenty twenty one if they lost trent williams because that offensive line would be garbage. Because he's really the only one on the offensive line. That's really good at pass. Blocking tomlinson's not bad. I think brennan skill probably surprised people at that point center was a complete unknown and obviously glitches pretty terrible at pass blocking so getting him. Having both your tackles bad pass blocking the chances are whoever replaces trend williams would be a bad pass blocker. you were going to be pretty much screwed. I mean maybe if you went and got the guy that we're probably going to be talking about an later topic on this. Podcast show watson maybe you could still contend but he would have to have an mvp level season so it was a must do. I don't care the money and while the money seems large one is worth it to he. Reportedly we don't have all the details yet but reportedly made it pretty team friendly in year one and three in reality they can get out of it in probably four years without a huge dead cap so it's not like they're truly tied to him until he's thirty nine like he stated he wanted to play till and you brought up a good point with broadscale because he's been all over the place you know he hasn't really had a chance to sort of solidify one spot work at one spot you sign williams now. You've kind of steadied things on the offensive line. Everybody has their role right now. Williams tomlinson mac. Bronze skill glitchy. I think that bronco could be better in twenty twenty one which i think makes mike mcglinchey a little bit better also because there is a cohesion that has to form along the offensive line. There are a lot of ripple effects this evening. And i think that's one of them. I think overall it just makes the offensive line better yet. Burn skills somebody that. I'm i'm excited to seeks. I think he could be an above average. I don't think he's going to blossom. No pro bowler But i think he's going to be above average the bronco we saw last year. He reminds me as the offensive version of. dj read. We've seen dj read when he was with the niners he was getting thrown around nickel corner. Safety cornerback on the outside all over the place never could solidify himself never quite Blossomed and then it goes up to seattle and he's able to just play one role and suddenly. He's starting caliber player. I think bruns skill has been treated much the same way just on the offensive side. They keep moving around filling in gaps due to injuries. Here and there you know. He's played tackle and staley was hurt. Two years ago. He's played center. He's played guard if it just as a guard i think he can blossom into a really good player and i have mentioned it a few times but i keep going back to joe thomas talking about kyle shanahan system when it comes to the offensive line. He said the way the system works. You don't have to have five studs upfront. You're not asked to just lock somebody down for three four five seconds at a time. And that's massive especially when it comes to look are gonna be spots on your roster where you don't have a pro bowl player. I know we don't like to admit that as fans we want to have studs everywhere but that's just the way it is. You can't pay everybody. You're gonna have dudes that are average to below average so you can have a spot on your line. Where one of those guys doesn't have to be a stud. That's huge for you to still get production out of that guy in that system. That's how you get complete teams and build complete. It gets back to what i said. Couple months ago to tie into a different. I've said the niners have the star players any they don't need more stars. They have kittle. They have i you go. I think he's going to be a star. They have deebo. who is i think. Limited in certain aspects of the wide receiver but what he does is truly unique and is star level. You know the the end arounds the short yardage the after the catch. He's a star in that way. Bose's obviously star. Fred warner's star. I wouldn't quite put. Eric armstead jimmy ward there. But they're they're close. I would say like it wouldn't surprise me. If they make some bowls in their career they have all the star players. They need they just need to shore up the other areas. I forgot about trent williams williams's star but they need to shore up the other areas and then they will be a dominant team and that is what they've started to do with guys like alex mack and you know what i love about alex mack. In twelve years a pro. He's only missed games in two seasons. That is exactly what the forty niners need. And it's a trait that Is not alone in with mac when it comes to the forty niners free agents sambuc on the linebacker that the niners sign also rarely if ever misses games. I feel like i liked that adjustment by the forty niners. They have seen the light. They know now that while anybody can get hurt. You can't keep taking risks on guys with sketchy injury histories i like the histories of the two guys they brought in all right everybody here that make a mental note episode. Thirty two of the gold standard podcast. If those guys get hurt is where rob stats career at the and destroyed their season. Don't you. I mean anybody can get injured. Yes but injured. Dudes tend to get injured more in the niners have stopped bringing those guys in which i love max gonna be thirty six He's not the same guy he was but he's still allowed only one sack in six hundred thirty three pass blocking snaps last year. So it's gonna be a vast vast improvement over what they've had at center. Sorry her own aggressive. Sorry not sorry. But that's with matt ryan. Who's not exactly. A mobile quarterback.

"The packers thirty two eighteen on saturday and heading into the weekend lindsay. You wrote that you were really excited to see this. Coaching matchup between matlock floor. And sean mcvay. What stood out to you in the battle of the minds here. Yeah i mean because these are two guys who know each other so well and you know. They're very much part of the same coaching tree. They both worked under kyle shanahan about the flora then works Under sean mcvay. So they have very similar offensive philosophies but that was just a game that was full of really interesting. Coaching matchups mallon floor wine. That batch up by far the packers had the better game plan. They were the better team better coach. All of this and sure aaron. Donald was not at full strength. You could tell that. He was very clearly hampered by the rib injury that he suffered during the wild card round but it was just a very impressive performance overall by aaron rodgers and certainly by matt leflore and that entire coaching staff the packers put up four hundred and eighty four yards of total offense against basically the best defense in the league. talked about aaron donald. Who's just a generational talent. Not being at full strength. But how is this packers offense. So effective saturday night. We'll everything they do. Obviously starts with aaron rodgers. Who just seem to have this innate mastery of what was coming and it kind of went viral on twitter a little bit because so many of fox's camera angles shown face on with aaron rodgers where you could see the moment that he realized what was coming that he was able to diagnose the coverage and dictate the play based on what was coming and the offensive line played really well protecting aaron rogers. He was barely touched. I'm not sure if his jersey had a single grass stain on after the game. And you know when you're not getting pressure on a quarterback and you're running the ball really well and you have davante adams who's one of the best wide receivers and football. It really wasn't even a close match up. And you know. I know a lot of people in green bay throughout packers land. Were wondering this is the best defense in football and it has to make you wonder. If that's the way that the packers aaron rodgers played against supposedly the best defense in football. What are they going to do for the rest of the

Thirty-two NFL Awards

"Every week on this podcast given out. Nfl awards app. The week is over. This could be a bit ambitious but thirty two teams thirty two awards. Let's go we're gonna call this one the best six and ten team of all time award but the washington football team stepped up so now he renamed it already way to change the word on the fly in the moment with breaking news the best seven and nine team of all time award the washington football team now can we say that definitively it may be too early to say last year tampa atlanta both went seventy nine. Those teams didn't even make the playoffs so the early lean is that washington could be the great one of all time. But we don't know yet. Speaking of that game. The clockwork orange award goes to the new york giants because they had to watch i at one point. This season banned myself from nfc east games. I said i wouldn't watch any until the teams are over five hundred. I watch step drop sixty two instead of being super locked into washington philadelphia. And i don't feel like i miss much. I know there's a lot of controversy would get that. Maybe a little bit later but imagine having your eyeballs taped open like clockwork orange and being a member of the giants having to watch that game. Nate sub-field now. Look we can sit here and be upset about it but you could have gone seven nine and got into the playoffs. So how sorry. Can you really feel for the giants the skeletons on the zahara award. Yes some of these awards. We referenced. his some won't get boy when you do get a weird one. You're gonna go man. I get that all right. That award goes to the. Las vegas raiders. Because at the beginning it looked promising. Nice little boat trip trade. Some spices await were crashing into rocks. Not a big deal here. Some locals gathering on the beach here to help nope now. We're marching to our own death in africa so it was very pro gruden. Hey maybe this gruden guy knows what he's doing and then you're like wait. Does this actually suck again. The drought continues. The raiders have not won a playoff game. Since two thousand to the notre dame award that goes to the green bay packers great record high green. Bay's really good. They're thirteen three though the one seat but nobody outside of their own fan base is rooting for this team. Not only because of the history of hatred. Although i imagine there's way more anti notre dame stuff out there than it is anti green bay but no one trusts you. Yes you're thirteen and three but that's three. Nfc conference championship game losses in the six seasons. A couple down years. They've turned this thing around. They are the one seed. But everybody's kind of overt already before. It's even started the parent's weekend award that goes to the new orleans saints. You guys know the deal parents weekend. There's a dad he wants to stay out with you guys. And he's older he's a little beat up and you're like i don't know like we're going to go out. We can't say no. We respect him too much. It doesn't look great. Doesn't make a ton of sense on paper there's some bad stats in there. But you have to let them do it. You have to let them try and the thing is is you and your buddies like there's no way does this is going to end well. The iceman award that goes to the dallas cowboys man and dangerous. What is with this jolt. A don't let us get hot. This is insanity when this was part of the story lines throughout the cowboys broadcast. Yes you on three in a row. Cincinnati san francisco and philadelphia yay. Then you lost the giants at home. You came in eleventh in the nfc but if you were to get in look out. This is now. It's our time you were eleventh in your own conference dangerous. You had sixteen games to prove that you're only dangerous to your fan. Base is or perhaps the understanding of what the word danger beans the g. league award san francisco forty niners. They had twenty eight players. At one point on i r or another injury cova list which was most in the league. They use the most. I are slots. They lost the most games to injury in the nfl. And even with losing record my coach. kyle shanahan. i can't believe how competitive they were. All season law the dabble award. That goes to kirk cousins in the vikings bike. He's gonna win. Nah no one really cares are one in five star people already over this team so their disappointing season was so disappointing so early that it was just all of a sudden just completely off the radar even though they turn some things around there a bit in the middle of the season with dalvin cook but watching cousins dance reminded me of daboh announcing his tiktok account hickory vickery dot mouse ran up the clock coast. Sweeney's got that drill and now he's on tiktok.

"Has even pass breakup. But he's a really really big football player. Yes better like advanced stafford tackle that like who cares about that nova. Nobody's gonna say what's your average depth attack. Where you mentioned your albany stops you have. He has better missed. A tapa percentage in the other guys like nobody's gonna so i don. I think that jimmy ward should have made it over jamal adams because all he does is get sacks key probably couldn't cover me but whenever you're not gonna go to bat and get upset about jimmy ward so those are pro bowls a lot of injuries. We talk about quarterbacks as of this moment. byu is playing. They are up thirty five to ten at halftime. Zap wilson is seventeen. Twenty one has or three hundred hundred yards. Which is amazing which is insane. Yes rush or has thrown for three touchdowns he also three carries or twenty three yards. He has a ran for two touchdowns so he's accounted for all five of byu's touchdowns Essentially playing seven on seven. They're not. I mean he's standing back there all day but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy that doesn't mean we have to take away from his performances playing really well. We we'll talk about zap wilson ad. Nauseam i imagine as well as all the other veteran and rookie quarterbacks draft arizona. On saturday forty niners opened up as three and a half point underdogs which is going to acknowledge that the forty niners are have a backup quarterback and he plays and they all play like backup. Quarterbacks i've been burned weeks in a row by that and baker says still not. Yeah i don't know but that line is now moves today. I bumped up to five before we came out which still out of backs not enough. I like like double digits like. That's kyle shanahan respect right there for vegas about causing more was favored by three points against josh allen. Thousand state like think about that. Josh allen might be like the afc championship game. The malls was favored And they were favorably genrette against dallas. There were three point favorites. You know obviously lock right. So grill off with the niners. They just haven't been super accurate. So i would hop on that arizona's playing for something you know. They're fighting for a playoff spot. Obviously at home not not sure how of an advantage that has forty niners in. Kyle shanahan if you hit on this. He looked really demoralized today. Like this was the first time. I saw him in outside Because he was just trying to feel the roster right now like. We don't have a luxury of like plan younger guys. They've got like we're trying to get.

Jalen Hurts inspires Eagles to victory in first NFL start

"At least for one week philadelphia. Eagles fans can feel confident with the caliber of play. They got from the quarterback position and jalen hurts leading philadelphia to the outright upset as an eight point. Underdog against the seemingly unbeatable new orleans saints. The eagles offense showed a little bit of a pulse and the saints defense was nowhere to be found in the first thirty minutes where they surrendered more than three hundred yards. It's kyle shanahan could've done his job. The eagles would have been or would be right in the thickens. Visger that divisions a mess. I mean every time you want to give them credit for making strides ford. They they pull you back in and like you said kyle shanahan and company allowing washington to get the improbable win. But i digress silly. Despite the washington win increase their playoff chances by about seven or eight percent. So there's still a fighting chance you mentioned this game and that's what it came down to is getting out to a quick start. Philadelphia thought for the first thirty minutes. Did a really good job. And they control the trenches. Which is a little shocking. Because you had this. Eagles offensive line that was was really depleted. You've lost peter's as well in that's against one of the more talented defensive front fours in the nfl. The new orleans saints miles sanders woke up and decided to contribute. You'll get the eagles offense. Ten point four yards per russian. At first half fifty percent rushing success rate for explosive runs all in the first half. Doug peterson game plan to me was was pretty good. The script resolved the playcalling was decent in. the eagles. did enough in the first half to hang on for dear life in the second. Come away with that win. And and keep themselves alive defensively. I thought before what feels like every single starter for the eagles left the game in the second half. Billy did a nice job defensively in that first. Thirty minutes stanzas. Well three point six yards per play allowed thirty three percent success rate allow tastes. Him only ran at twice in the first half. He was semi accurate throwing it. What it was just really short. Four point three yards per attempt in that first half so across the board that might have been the eagles best half football. This season they were. They were fantastic in. It was certainly against a team that had more talent. It just looked like philadelphia. Wanted it more along. The lines of scrimmages

"kyle shanahan" Discussed on Niners Nation

"Except for two or three bad plays, I've been really good this year. That's the difference between a really good player and a piece of crap player is two or three plays a game. If you can't stop those, you're not any good. The good players do not have those. They don't have plays where you completely miss your block in your side of the field. The quarterback gets hit and fumbles the ball away and your team loses it. They don't have plays where when your you're teams trying to throw a thirty yard pass at the end of the game to try to win, you can't slow down you're. Man Enough. For Your quarterback to make Damn Hail Mary to the end zone at the end of the game. That's the difference between a good team and a bad team two or three plays from everybody and if you don't get that, then you shouldn't have the job that you have i. don't even know where to start with what he said because every step of the way it was like, what are you talking about? I mean, we we can start with you know as he said one or two in reality it's two or three. He was downplaying it like you would probably want to. But like you said, you can't you can't do that and I think the biggest difference for him is even if you want to say he only has two or three bad place which I would argue he has more than that. But. If you WANNA say only has two or three, his are so agreed. Bad. that it takes it to a whole `nother level. There's a difference between having a bad play where you beat but at least you kind of pushed the guy to the outside, make him come around a long way gives a quarterback time. He's not even doing that when he messes up on a play he whiffs and he gives a free shop. I it is terrible. It's as bad of a snap as you can be, and he has two or three of those in a game. That's horrendous. That's if you weren't a first round, pick your, it'd be on the sideline. Me Let's be honest here. If he wasn't a first round pick, he probably would be on the sideline. But then you also get into. You know all these thirty second clutch. No, it's only thirty clip because he had to put something on twitter mean. We Watch the Games. Even. A casual fan can watch the game and go holy crap. That's a bad offensive line. Even a casual fan can watch the Games and go wow that whoever that right tackle is getting beat constantly. Its heart. It's that bad it's not hard. I don't know. Yeah. There's a thirty second clip on twitter that's just showing what the problem is. It's not saying this is the only play. If, you want all the place boasted. I if twitter can take all that. Yeah. The problem only thirty seconds by no I think he's right in that. We don't always know which guy the linemen is responsible for based on the front and the play that you're running. But when I see you one on one with a guy and there's nobody else around and he blows past you like. The bowl. He looks like the bowl with the Cape You. Right that's I don't need to know the play call for that. Clearly, that's you screwing up. So it just but it's not I don't mean to just focus grinchey because that comment pissed me off but Trent Williams last week. Oh, except two or three plays in two or three penalties I had a clean sheet paths protection like dude. What is with this team Levin? How can you keep saying safe for one or two plays? I did a good job light do they not understand how many close games that they play last year that they won because they made those two or three plays now all of a sudden they don't matter. You can just throw those aside like where'd this mindset come from? And I don't get it because this team. Of. Pretty much all the teams should know the value one play because they lost the super bowl because of one boneheaded play on defense. If that tyreek hill deep ball doesn't happen they're super bowl champions and there's no more of this quest for six and I would think that the fan base is still in their euphoria of a super bowl win. So the niners being two and three wooden matter as much as it does now. Yet. Here's the team I. Mean I I don't get it you they should know. More than any other team, the value one play can half and when that one play in this scenario is the quarterback getting destroyed. put it. I mean. What do you talk about your job is to make sure the quarterback doesn't get hit let alone get annihilated with a free shot. So that's simple I don't understand that whole mindset I. mean you talking about one play look they became the number one seed one play that stop on fourth down where they kept one inch tuna goal line like literally one play the last play of the regular season. I don't understand how these guys can keep saying that I'm assuming when they go and watch the film the coaches are saying, Hey, you got blown up on this rep that sucks. You can't do that anymore and I don't know Levin is if it is it a Kyle Shanahan issues that what he's telling, you guys like trying to pump them up like, Hey, you're not as bad as everyone's saying, we just gotTa. Shore up a couple of things, and then we're good but if That message from coming is coming from him. It's the wrong message right now because it's clearly not helping I don't know what Kyle saying behind closed doors he could be having a different tone behind closed doors nobody knows. But what he's saying to the media is a very, very, very similar tone. So it could be these guys just mimicking that. Hey, I gotta deal with the media I mean we all know there's very few players who cared a deal with the media very few. So they might just be mimicking what their coach is doing to the media to get through it. But that's the wrong thing because it allows them to have an excuse and you don't want excuses they need to be saying the coaching to be saying we. It's that simple. I'm making you use your bleep button because I think it's important to stress the point that. They are messing up that that's all there is to it, and they need to admit that because admitting it.

The top waiver-wire pickups for Week 3 of fantasy football

"Tap waiver wire picked for me this week. Is going to be 40 Niners runningback Jerick. McKinnon makes sense. McKinnon is available currently in 73% of ESPN League, so widely available and with the most injury, coupled With Kevin Coleman also being gone for a couple of weeks. This seems like an opportunity for the big free agent signing for Kyle Shanahan Step up and have Ah productive week and at least for a couple of weeks. I think he's the at least for this week. I think he's definitely the best ad long term. Maybe not because most it will return. So if you're just looking for help for this week, maybe a couple of weeks. Jerick. McKinnon is your best bet this week on the planet Jets, other playing A. Who cares? The Giants there. Still, I stayed in New York and you look the Giants Steelers. The Bears have run the ball on the Giants, and they stayed in New York. They're playing the Giants, so I would think that that's they're going to try to ground and pound. This is saline advice is always from the update and grapple is positive, right? Like they think he's gonna play? Yes, Okay again, though, it's it's obviously Tuesday, so it's hard to say anything definitively. But my cannon is the top waiver wire pick up, especially If you're hurting at running back, and if you have sake one if he had most, sir, if you had McCaffrey, and now you're starting to Sergio. Look, Yorgos got to start Jamal Williams from crying out. I got Jamal waves in my story. You might be hitting your waiver wire to pick up Jack Kennedy on the can, For sure, he's gone in one of my All right. Who else? Hide Let me fire Rams running back. Donald Henderson was highly drafted. You have Malcolm Brown, who left last week's game with a finger injury, along with Who's the other Ocampa and left with a rib injury as well. So Darnell Henderson stepped in. I think I believe you had 80 total yards from scrimmage. So Donald Henderson is my second ad. He is available in 54% of leagues. 50 44. That's good Darnell game this week. Rams and Bill's about it to Owen omits to know that those of a good man, that's an exciting game. This's now I'll give you a couple of guys right here. One's more of a long term play. The other is going to be a better bet. Immediately, but probably not for the long term. Joshua Kelly, Los Angeles Chargers, he is it looks like he has stepped right into the Melvin Gordon roll from last season. Austin Heckler obviously, is the main running back that you want with the Chargers. Things were better. With Justin Herbert under center. It's undeniable. Tyrod Taylor comes back. I'm I'm not nearly as enthused, but I have a hard time believing Anthony Lynn is just going to give the ball back to Tyrod Taylor. If Justin Herbert continues to be productive, why

NFL fines three head coaches $100K each for not wearing masks on sidelines

"Up weak, too. Showcasing Las Vegas league was coming down hard on those Who haven't been following protocol. Last week, NFL sent out a strongly worded memo that said coaches had to wear masks on the sidelines and the NFL felt like there were three coaches that didn't do it this weekend. Vic Fangio, Denver Call Shanahan, San Francisco. And Pete Carroll in Seattle. It find each those head coach is $100,000 and find each of those teams $200,000 over a million dollars in fines for not wearing mess and the league might not be done after watching tonight's game, ESPN insider Adam Schefter, noting the three coaches who have been fined. Vic Fangio, Pete Carroll and Kyle Shanahan. But the league may not be done. Shafter referencing the Monday night football game, Raiders coach Jon Gruden seen wearing his face mass, like a changed rapid times during the wind. Over the Saints. After the game, Gruden telling reporters, quote I'm doing my best. I've had the virus. I'm doing my best. I'm very sensitive about it. I'm calling plays. I just want to communicate in these situations that if I get fined, I'll have to pay the fine, but I'm very sensitive. About that, and I apologize. New York Giants Confirm Saquon Barkley Tore ACL, Out For The Season

"There are terrible injuries all over the NFL yesterday alone. Nick. Bosa. From the niners Saquon Barkley from the giants both suffered torn ACL statistics show that through two weeks nfl record twice as many significant injuries as last year. It's actually at least six players suffered a torn acl including just recently Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin Eleven, injuries to starters in the one o'clock games alone John Do you think these injuries have something to do with the fact that there were no preseason games. Well. For example, the Rams don't play any of their starters in preseason games I think is in the spirit of your question i. think it has something to do with no camp no real camp they kind of shotgun training camp and I don't know how you could make the opposite argument that it has nothing to do with it. I wouldn't tied to preseason games what I would do it to the fact that there was very little tackling. Yes in. The game started and the other thing is I know Kyle Shanahan the niners felt like the field wasn't ready like the field I think he played in the meadowlands and he's got play there again next week because he played the jets and now he's GonNa, play the giants. Players on both teams going down. So I don't necessarily think that the facilities were one hundred percent prepared either I think again, I think the spirit of your question is the fact that they fast tracked everything and started the season. Because of Covid is that having any do with the injuries I don't know how you could say it doesn't I think it has to yeah. I mean I I completely agree I mean between training camp and preseason games where guys at least get a sense for what they get a reminder of what getting hit is like. I think they're I think they would be better off. It is an extraordinary number of injuries and none worse than Christian McCaffrey who's gone for four to six weeks and his the stalwart of my fantasy team just loyal to John Ireland how about? Yeah. I cleaned your clock thinking Matt Ryan. But. How about how about Saquon out for the year? Yeah. Entirely out for the year Bosa gone for the with a tornado. And that means that the giants I. It might be a race between the giants and the jets who the worst team football is. The whole new. York City area has to just garbage football teams because the jets are a mess and now the giants have no running game. So it's going to have it's going to have after-effects. All these

Would Tom Brady to the 49ers make any sense?

"NBC. Sports Boston's Tom. Curran told our old friend Chris Mad Dog Russo on his radio. Show that the chatter chatter connecting. Tom Brady to the forty niners as quote real now again. I heard that in India by the way before went on the air and said it. I had heard that Which I dismissed it as A. That's ridiculous and then I would assume the heard it as well and because he's a master at disseminating information played it. As you know I got an idea. This is crazy but out here you know but that that was as early as Friday Thursday. That was kicking around here. Jimmy Garoppolo the details of it are pretty fascinating the time that current said it was from both sides. Oh of course. Tom Brady wants to play for the forty niners. He's looking around the league possible teams to play for that. I can't come up with a better pick. Not just because he is his favourite teammate. And I mean that's the starting point. The next would be how how good they are and how Santa me everything's raincoat. And the fact that the forty niners have some mutual interest. According to this report is what and put yourself Garoppolo shoes. You have a really. You got traded from Tom. Brady's team across the country. You have this great ending to the season with the niners. Then you play your Tom Brady in two thousand nineteen you blow out your knee. Very frustrating comeback. You improve as a player. Maybe you're not all the way there where you're superstar. Maybe you'll never be that guy but you have a better season than Tom Brady. Your team goes to the Super Bowl and has a double digit lead in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl. And now you're hearing that the guy that you had go three thousand miles across the country to get out from under Mike. Come back to you. That's a tough situation stinks. But I would say that you look back when the trade happened. There were whispers that the forty niners had inquired about Tom. Brady not even whispered. I mean that was out there. And secondly if you're Tom Brady and you you're gonNA leave Josh mcdaniels in this embedded patriots environment for team x and you have no idea what really is happening to the one team. I could trust if I'm Tom Brady going teaming with Kyle Shanahan and seen how that two year process will play out the first one where I thought this is the first brady remember. It makes sense on his side. I don't know how it makes sense for the forty niners but it does make sense for Tom. Brady well there. There is thought that Jimmy G. Kyle Shanahan you know aren't a perfect match where he's not doing what? Kyle wants reading answers on every play and that maybe Jimmy G. doesn't always have the answers wash the fourth super bowl. Look if you're trying to compare the ability to win before the snap or the mental ability of quarterback comparing someone at Tom Brady. You're not going to end up looking great but I think that's some one where Kyle Shanahan would look. That's the advantage that Tom Brady would give to them that he would. He would know all the answers and and as crazy as it is. I mean I'm not putting this as like it's the answer but pf for instance. Had Tom Brady as a much higher rated quarterback last year and. I don't think that's crazy. I think Tom Brady led similar or better level. Brady's entire two thousand nine hundred thousand season under the microscope that Jimmy. Jeez fourth quarter was has been under. And you're going to see a guy who failed over and over again with the New England. Patriots feels tremendously shortsighted. If the niners went this route I mean Brady is going to be what forty three and August. He's showing signs of slippage. Garoppolo is a guy that still in his twenties. What is take? That doesn't make sense right. What what do you do in two thousand? Twenty three cents. I think if you have to think long you don't because if you're Kyle Shanahan you're up twenty eight to three in the Super Bowl you'll lose. And now what are the Falcons? They've never been back. They're not the same your window. That's the thing that's you know. I experienced it from two years ago with the chargers. At twelve and four beating the ravens going New England. It's tied at seven. You feel like okay this is great than Brady gets the best of you. You come back following year and people are picking win the Super Bowl to win the division. You've already be Patrick mahomes once maybe you figured it out with Derwyn Jones and it falls apart. You can't like there is no law window in the NFL FAST. But the so just go get it. Go Win the one championship and worry about one mile scenario to also just indicate that they don't that Jimmy Garoppolo is someone that they're invalid about long-term because I think there is a. There are a number of quarterbacks are there are situations where of course they would not want to jump off a guy in his twenties but if they considered a move. Like saying this one specific. Don't feel great about Jimmy D but I'll tell ya I'll tell you who is excited about this. I mean If there is a perfect situation or to get patriots this is it. I mean this is this is this is. This is what I as a selfish fan would have wanted. I I've said on this podcast. I don't WanNa see. Tom Brady played poorly in any uniform. But I'd rather have played poorly in another uniform and the Patriots and this this story here at least I would think we talk about Patriots fans all the time. It's all you ever bring up. I wish I could jump off of it but this would bring me back in. I mean I think it comes down to this. This cow Shanahan Jimmy. Garoppolo holds them back right now and if he does then sense to look into it. I guess if you're interested US coachspeak but they absolutely believe it is is a better than guy be do. I think my team has a better chance on a super bowl with Tom. Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo next year. Because if I believe. It's Tom Brady. Guess WHO's coming to play quarterback Tom Brady. This is too good having that some pink upright there Jimmy G. wants back with the Patriots as starter. I'm I mean you can't just sell that down the river as an organic happening that feels to me like a prepackaged preplanned plot hatched years

What one thing Kyle Shanahan would have done differently in Super Bowl

"Shanahan first public comments post the Super Bowl indicating he thinks the way they ended the first half was one of the reasons why they were up in the in the fourth quarter quote. I think that's one of the reasons why we're up. Ten in the fourth quarter and quote also thinks Jimmy Garoppolo one of the main reasons they got the super bowl quote. Jimmy is one of the main reasons we got the super bowl times by pal shot at hand. I'm telling the first comment obviously defend his quarterback. Doc Look no one's defended. Shane had play calling for the last few days. More than me. I think the criticism of him throwing the ball has been way overblown. But I'm still critical of of how we handle the end of that first half yes. It's why they were up ten but I do believe he should of anticipation that Patrick mahomes against gas line of Defense in the fourth quarter was a bad bad matchup and they should have tried to take the point when their offense and the defense. We're both dominating capital Biracial Shannon. I'm buying this is exactly what you want to hear. The leader is conviction. You don't need him lamenting this loss. Nothing's going to change. Don't keep watching the titanic over and over again as for starting next year. Of course you should. He's not not only was a good game manager but he had the best pass completion last year referring to Emmanuel Sanders. WHO said he's already watched the Super Bowl five or six times and every time? It's like watching the titanic padded down. Frank do you know that feeling by herself. Shanahan year his goal was not to give the ball back at the end of the first half. Let's remember the offensive offensive. Pass interference call. They should have been down there kicking a field goal going ahead by three points. The issue was those two drives after. San Francisco's I'm sorry after the Kansas City scored that was the issue in the fourth quarter. They did not lose a game in the first half. I don't have a problem with it and bob run a CELENA BY I. AM selling the nonsense agenda. Have I remember sitting here thinking Tom. Brady's watching this going for a minute. Forty three time outs give it to me. Give it to me. Every coach in the League was saying. What are you doing Janet? Hey and you're asking. What are you doing Bob? I have to say respectively. I'm selling you. What were you doing with your super bowl? Pick because they never came in. You never made a super bowl pick right here except Francisco within Cisco Forty niners. Here's your deduction Emily Kaplan. I mean this was not blackstone but about as good as you can do it as well. You're here you're super bowl. Pick and we move on fire sale to raptors one nineteen pacers one eighteenth the champs who you can never talk about coming coming back from nineteen down to get the win. They now have won twelve straight if a defending champion warriors team where he teamed one twelfth. You'd be writing love sonnets. In IAMBIC pentameter

Junior is with us. Good morning someone needs to be on my side and commercial breaks I. I have chosen you my friend. That Guy Welcome to team Chad. All right here we go three years ago following a super bowl loss to the Patriots. So then Falcons offensive coordinator Shanahan stepped off the team plane. Having blown the biggest super bowl lead of all time yesterday. The niners now head coach Paul Shannon and had to make that dreaded walk once again niners all pro China and George cadle said quote it was brutal to see Shannon hurting after their loss naked. We Chess Watch Kyle Shanahan blow yet another super bowl. Oh this one's painful is the guy I've been calling the best offensive line football all year. Long Andy d read neck and neck and one does fear that he just inherited from Andy Reid. The monkey that was on the title of Brilliant Offensive Line Brilliant play designer and yet has some really odd tendencies in the biggest of spots. And so. Here's the thing. I can't say Shane and blew the game for them. Kyle Shanahan designed the game plan. That had him up. Twenty to ten right kyle. Shanahan did a lot of really good things and made the most of what I consider to be a very limited quarterback but much like that Atlanta Super Bowl. There are a couple specific moments that you look at and you say man. What are you thinking and the end of the the first half is a coaching travesty? And I know coach will tell me why I'm wrong but you won't John Lynch who was begging for the same time out. The whole world was and and the message is sent to every phase of his team quarterback..

The Chiefs Win the Super Bowl and the Niners Blow It, With Cousin Sal

"Did the chiefs witness or did the niners lose this. And if the answer is both what is your percentage split. Okay well it has to be both. It has to be both because it's no coincidence. That now mahomes five and in games that he's been down double digits so you got that but it's also no coincidence that Kyle Shanahan in his last fourth quarter Super Bowl drives that he's called. Yeah as gone three and fumble six and pont. I'm stealing this off the Internet him. Sorry for whoever did this foreign pont five point three and pont seven turnover downs to an interception. ooh though I wanNA say San Francisco some as a sixty forty San Francisco right there is that fair. Well you left out the part that in his last two fourth quarter overtimes. Where's the offensive coordinator for the Falcons Against Patriots? The other time outscored forty six to nothing. Yeah I look at it this way you know. I had the big bet for plus three seventy five before the playoffs on San Francisco. It's twenty ten. They get a pick. There's twelve minutes left. They have a phenomenal running game that ends up finishing the game running for seven yards a carry. Yep like twenty twenty one carries the one hundred forty plus yards. I felt like the game was over. And I know Mahomes is on the other side line and they've come back twice but they have literally literally the perfect team in the league to run out a game like that up ten with more with momentum with everything you want and the play action was working And they had really figured out a way to control the pace and when you look at those last three drives it felt like that she switches sending the house and and like screen passes. Were there just all kinds of things that were false starts in the manner side not running when they should have one Bad plays as and I. I don't I never liked to use the word choke with sports because these guys are much better than we are but they've really blew it. That is one of in one of the all time and we blew it super bowl losses. In my opinion I thought they right. They kept their foot off the gas and first of all it happened at the beginning. The end of the first half an in what happened with that time management there will chant ended. DidN'T WANNA use a timeout. Looked like he was just happy content to go in the locker room ten ten yet but then gets a first down like to the forty about right and then as timeouts and then the drives fizzles but who knows if you start that drive. What one one twenty seven instead of like thirty seven? It's a different story. So yes we hold that thought right but so it's a key moment for a couple reasons. One they don't call time out before the chiefs chiefs punt so another forty seconds runoff by the time they get it. There's a little under a minute. Left there on their twenty. I was watching it thinking. They're so afraid of the chiefs chiefs. They they don't even want to leave a scenario where mahomes might get the ball back with thirty seconds left to reverse but at the same time if you look at the way they played pretty much this entire Gabe it was really kinda playing not to lose you. Know they had feel goes over and over again and they had a lot of like third and five and third and four zero where they you know they technically. If you're really going for the jugglers down territory at least a couple times. They're always happy to settle settled for three. The fourth in two was pretty egregious in the second half just because I don't know that I never felt like they try to grab the game by its throat. And and you need points to beat the chiefs team but when you think about the first forty eight minutes of that game it could have gone better for them because they didn't try to grabbed game by the throat but they're still sitting there with the lead up ten with the ball with the running game. That's gashing the chiefs and I think it's a colossal. We blew it lost. Like even if you go back to the Seattle pats game where Where the Malcolm Butler pick Seattle was still making plays to win that game? You know the pats came down. I'm from ten same way but Seattle is still like throwing haymakers back. They got that huge pass on the on the crazy long ball down the field that set up the Lynch played. You know I I just felt like the niners really rolled over the last ten minutes. And that's before we get to the defensive side of thing. It was really rough. I kind of in disbelief. That they'd when Super Bowl. I know you're bummed but I'm thinking about this from the other way. I think like I think he'd wake up tomorrow. Morning more bummed if Jimmy G. drove his team down the field this guy you got a second round pick forward we added for and won that game. You would've won money but all the Jimmy Jeez better than Brady. What's Brady doing? Brady inserts himself. In commercials is yeah. The Patriots are pathetic. I think we would have heard that would have been the narrative if the forty niners at one that starts a you know either way. I think we're going to start talk about starting earning a dynasty and I feel like we'll get we'll talk about odds next year's odds men and I'm sure but Patrick Mahomes is starting that right when you have a quarterback that just comes comes back. It doesn't really matter what's going on. Seems to not get flustered at all. Yeah that's a scary scary team. But I wanNA give the chiefs a little credit their running game the the biggest Sucker bat was like the forty niners minus thirty three and a half yards. I think it was thirty. Six thirty three right in there over the Chiefs it ended up one forty one to one twenty nine San Francisco and that's misleading. Because Patrick Mahomes in one of the worst Super Bowl bad had beats I can remember had forty four yards before he kneeled down has over on the twenty nine and a half for loss. Fifteen yard three kneel. Downs ended up with twenty twenty nine. So they really did have more rushing yards and San Francisco and you never ever would've thought that and that that's why they won the game that and the third and fifteen play I thought in the fourth quarter. It was why they want. I WANNA go back later to all the things the niners did wrong. And you're right. We should praise the chiefs. They had an awesome come for behind victory. They think were what the fifth team to win a super bowl. Where at some point in the playoffs they were down ten? I remember seeing that that tweet somewhere hold on. Let me find that ten three times. Scott Scott Caz Mar he said Only four out of fifty three super bowl. Oh winners trailed by ten in the playoffs until tonight. Nineteen seventy six raiders. Down Eleven to New England. The Sugar Sugar Bear Ham at the game. The first horrible horrible football US ever had two thousand one patriots snow game. Some people got Tuck rule game called Snow Game. Two Thousand Fourteen Patriots Seattle Two thousand hasn't Sixteen Patriots Atlanta Down Nineteen the Patriots. Were somehow involved all four times. This happened until Nice until today. So now we're talking five out of fifty three where they've trailed by ten plus and the chiefs became the fifth team to do it. So there you go so I They deserve it. They're the best. I think they're the best right. Ravens got picked off bad job by them chiefs to the best

Super Bowl 54 Recap

"Kansas City Thirty One San Francisco Twenty air it. It is Mitchell as he's been waited his whole damn life to make that call and cheese fans. They've been waiting fifty years for their team to Hoist Lombardi and it finally finally happened on this. The second of February two thousand twenty the Kansas City chiefs are the super bowl champions after that thirty one to twenty win over the San the average Cisco Forty nine dollars a game in which they were down like they were all their postseason games by double digits. This time in the fourth quarter and yet Patrick Mahomes and company would not not be denied. Dan Heads here the around the NFL podcast presented by little caesars. And yes I'm coming to you from a hard rock stadium that is filled with heroes mark. Sesser Chris Wesseling and Greg Rosenthal. What is up boys? Hey Dan still filled with some chiefs fans and employs employs. Usually I feel like we start the taping after midnight. got going a little quicker like there's still an MVP chant going on the exciting. These fans. Don't WANNA leave. They've waited. You know half a century for this. Yeah usually when we're here it feels like we're ghosts like passing passing through a stadium and and and you can't. You're not sure if you're humid or not until you get back to the hotel but in this case where here. The field is is covered in confetti. Where on the third level the really Nice hardrock stadium here in Miami was great Super Bowl Week? A lot of fun a great city for a super bowl the eleventh and Super Bowl in this area which is most just past New Orleans and If you're a cheese fan this was the dream come come true and I got to watch the second half of this game in the seats With my cousin Matt and I just you know watching an older gentleman guy looked like he was in his fifties with his wife Cheese FAN IN JERSEY. As that game it became clear. After obviously the Damian will even before the Damian Williams run that clinched it it was becoming clear then the Williams touchdown and then there was this release. Like Oh my God the chiefs are GonNa win the Super Bowl and it was a well-earned win and one that didn't look particularly like it was heading in this direction even halfway through the fourth. That's quarter the chiefs to me. Their players and coach Kinda remind me of the fans. It's been so long since they got that Super Bowl in Randy read. It's been so long a guy like Frank Clark find his way there. Honey Badger finds his way to Kansas City to make this happen. Terrell suggs is lucky enough to come along for the ride at the end of the year. A lot of I just find their way to Kansas City and end up winning this one and you're right fourth quarter at midway through the fourth quarter forty nine hundred ninety five point six percent win probability. I know that's not your stat. The latest evidence that people need to stop talking about win probability it means nothing other than a twitter talking boy. It means it means it's unlikely the other team's GonNa win and now know Kyle Shanahan. Would it peaked at about ninety nine point wait. Six percent against the Patriots early in the fourth quarter always had ninety five point six percent. The percentage. I don't think takes into account Patrick Mahomes uh-huh it just doesn't or the chiefs offense or Andy Reid like the way that you have to dominate Patrick mahomes and make his life. If uncomfortable for sixty minutes I think is the hardest thing to do in the NFL. The forty niners balled out on defense. Not Unlike I believe the the Seahawks balled out on defense against the broncos. They did so many things right for the first three quarters. I think in a lot of scenarios and with a lot of quarterbacks that game would have been twenty seven to six at with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and they're never could've been a comeback but mahomes got out of a lot of plays blaze. That could have gone worse. He had a lot of negative. Plays the chiefs defense. Did just enough and it just shows you. Yeah you can. You can do a lot while. They held him to five point three yards per play which is a very very low number for the chiefs and she's still put up thirty one points in nine drives. They barely have the ball. They still went over not surprising. Because that's what they've been doing for for months and months and if we had one kernel of information going into the for the last two weeks to to base our analysis on that the chiefs and Patrick Mahomes I would open the third quarter with back to back picks by Patrick Mahomes and that the niners would be nestling a twenty two ten lead minutes into into the fourth. You would think this is a perfect setup for San Francisco to run away with this thing but if you give Patrick Mahomes even ten minutes to operate and it gets hot. Aw everything's off the table. Fifty fifty two and a half minutes of game time the niners down day and I remember thinking as has the game was reaching as it's ticking through the fourth quarter and they have a twenty two ten lead and thinking what made the chief. So unstoppable all when they were humming the regular season but especially in those two comebacks in the AFC playoffs it. was that big play ability. That the niners there's through their dominant front four. Were taking away. Mahomes running for his life just by his brilliance kept the game close because is almost any other quarterback decided. Lamar Jackson has a couple sacks. Fumbles and the game gets away. Like what Von Miller Cam Newton a few years back but he was able to stay on his feet. Keep the game from getting away and the what really sticks out to me at that moment again. Midway through the fourth quarter after the tyreek hill catches is overturned on review. And you feel the entire building is psyching up. It feels like the niners are about to make the big play. Plays away from winning the super. Aw It is third and a miles third and fourteen. I believe third and fifteen and I leaned to my cousin Matt. I said the most likely play. Is You get try to get half of this back and then make a manageable fourth-down fourth and five and get it done. But no that's not what the chiefs do that's not how they operate and even a game where they never made any big plays with the season on the line mahomes dropback. This time found tyreek Hill West on a busted coverage and that changed

"Sedgwick is a senior writer at ESPN and discovery. Recall Shanahan since two thousand six seth. This Sunday we have a battle between two highly respected head coaches in Andy Reid in Kyle Shanahan and Andy. Reid has been coach for twenty one years and has sort of become a lovable folk hero around the league. How would you describe? Kyle Shanahan the hand. Well I don't think kyle is the lovable folk hero of the NFL. That's definitely for sure. He's a younger guy. He's kind of an assassin and we got everybody who in the League who was rooting for Andy Reid. He's older he's been around he's you know he's had a lot of horrific playoff failures. People kind of think kyle will get his and I think you know. Oh that's interesting going into this game because they both have super bowl scars. You know. You have Andy Reid from the two thousand four season when they lost by only three points. Patriots we'll deal down in the second will took away as it gave us a pause at as much as you have to respect the eagles. It's still remain. Hey painful and then of course you have kyle scar. And that's maybe a bigger one when they lost twenty two three lead a couple years ago important research. The one of the ways in which Indian Indian Kyle are similar. Seth is that they are both brilliant offensive minds maybe the two best offensive coaches in the NFL and Shanahan in particular. I think is seen as something of a football genius these days despite twenty eight to three. I don't know if you you watch the show succession. SAYS BUT PEOPLE COMPARE KYLE to Kendall Roy who for those who don't know sort of the Ceylon of this wealthy family really. He looks like the actor. But I think it's also because you know. He's the son of a famous legendary coach. Mike Shanahan is one of the most famous coaches of all time and also he seems to have that sort of cold blooded killer personality. Do you think that's fair. Yeah there's no doubt and I mean if you're someone like Kyle you've been raised in football when Mike was really making his run with the Broncos and they were winning super bowls also kyle was a teenager and so he would just hang around his dad nonstop remembers from your time in Denver goes in there All of them. I mean it was. It was a great time. I just go into that run. And they won the Super Bowl my senior in high school which was real need. That was back. When they didn't have wireless cord so I was always the the cord boy holding hold on my dad's cords which got made fun of a lot for it? But have to that Green Bay superbowl wireless the next year. So I think they the only one one more because the record-holder is what I always tell. My Dad was really fun. And he's just had exposure his entire life from such a close proximity to those types of moments moments. Kyle is a coach you know. He loves being alone in his office. Looking at film trying to unlock walk any weakness in the defense when you get them going on something if he's outside of facility he can be like incredibly funny and cool to be around but when he's in the the facility I mean something switches him one of his very first meetings with forty niner staff. He actually said look if I walk by in the hallway and you say hi to me and I don't even respond. I'm sorry in advance. Please don't take it personally. But I just get so geared up and so in my head like humans like detaches from the known world as as you mentioned Kyle was steeped in the game from basically when he was born he goes from coaching wide receivers to becoming an offensive coordinator at a very young age. Each what were the early years of his career like he's always been a great offensive mind even in Washington and even Cleveland went. He didn't quite get the credit that he deserved deserved. Kyle of course was the offensive coordinator for the BROWNS for time only a year. Everyone always sort of wondered why he got out after a year. Of course now. It's obvious but at the a time people kind of looked at Kyle differently K.. You know is he being a little petulant you know or things not going well so he wants an escape route. He wanted out so bad that he went to the head coach with a list of thirty thirty two points as to why he wanted out. I don't know if the thirty two but the other thirty two teams but he. He came to head coach and said this is one out here. My thirty two the reasons why and they released him from his contract. Something that I think strikes me about some of those teams that he coached coached. THE OFFENSE CLEVELAND WASHINGTON HOUSTON ATLANTA. They were all really good. Offenses maybe underrated. In retrospect yeah no doubt and he did it with different types of quarterbacks and I think that's one of the most interesting things as you know he did it with Matt Schaub he did it with. Rg Three he did it with Rex Grossman that's one of the marks. Of a good coaches you know. Can you adapt and you you know you talk about his dad. His Dad beat the Patriots during the Patriots. Early run which was a defense of dominated team with Jake plumber with any canal. I mean these. You know it wasn't like you had John Elway the entire time and so I think it's one of the things that Kyle learned was that you've got to be able to stay ahead of the defense on offense regardless of personnel. You mentioned that Kyle coached with a lot of different quarterbacks over the years when he was rising up as an offensive coordinator how did his approach evolve evolve by the time he arrived in Atlanta in two thousand fifteen as their offensive coordinator. Well I think that he was one of those guys. That was kind of underrated. Did which is kind of weird given that you think about him is coming in being Mike Shanahan sign and being overrated. If anything I don't think people realize just quite how good he was when he got to Atlanta. You had a deep roster a veteran quarterback and you know they really so we took off the freemen rivals glow chose to cash out they feel Julio into Green Bay territory stiff arm into fifteen. Hey Ryan steps up with a pocket Matt Post. Does he story the wrestling for the ball. Game is over twenty years to. Here's to Super Bowl. So the Falcons make it to super bowl. Fifty one against New England. And it's in Houston Seth you and I are there were in the stadium. Falcons fans are thriving. They're happy vibrant vibrant. In that moment. How do you remember feeling well? I think that when Brady threw the pick six at the end of the first half is when I was like AAC. Wow this might get out of Control Shotgun snap. Because he throws short pudding talk radio looked exposed host and the Patriots looked exposed. And it just looked like it was the Falcons Day and then they came out in the third quarter score touchdown. They're up twenty three and you're like this is insane because not only are the Patriots who no matter what win or lose. Always play an exciting super bowls. They'RE GONNA lose a blowout and then it was an epic collapse. Kim Stamp on thirty two minutes of your comes through his the TV leaks. Matt Ryan Get Strip sack. That's kind of the beginning beginning. It felt like I want a horror movie but that doesn't feel quite right to capture the level of dread in in the stadium. It was kind of like a slow moving train wreck where this kind of error of terrible inevitability begins to slowly sink over the stadium and then with five minutes left. Atlanta's up by a score. What happened the Falcons just completely Wheatley self-destructed there at the twenty two yard line with just over three minutes left? All they need is a field goal. They are super bowl champions. If they get it I down to the twenty-three they hand off. They lose a yard second down. Matt Ryan is sacked again. He goes to the thirty of New England. It's a lawsuit third-down. He completes a pass to get them back into field goal range only. There's a holding penalty eighty and the next thing you know it's third and like thirty one and it's like what do you do. I don't care how brilliant Kyle Shanahan is. There is no play that that he has for third and thirty one and the Super Bowl against the New England patriots then the Patriots skip the ball back force overtime and the rest is history. No in the first overtime tossed it to white left so right side. Why don't cut back? And he well JAS white has has won the super bowl or New England every now and then that game comes on. NFL Network on on replay. And I still have no idea how the falcons completely lost that game. It just seems like they should win every time you watch it and you know Kyle took the blame for that. I mean people really came after him. Arrogance is what did him in electronic get cute seem to be what did Shanahan in that. Circumstance stands we have anointed him that genius and he tried to do genius stuff when all they needed to do. Run the ball. That's it. Run the ball three times and let your kicker kick it in a dome instead. They didn't even get any time off the clock. Kyle's and aggressive coach. He remained aggressive then and it completely backfired on him. It's one of those things that stuck with him. I remember every single play and I will go over those for the rest of my life That's it's kind of the life we live as coaches and that's magnified in the Super Bowl but also that case in every game and in terms of the use the words I blew it. I don't look at it that way. I believe this an opportunity and you know we didn't get it done. I'll go back to every play through that for for the rest of my life. It's a scarring on him and it's a black mark on his resume Eh. But in the same sense he wasn't just on him. I mean they had a twenty five point. Lead in the defense couldn't get any stop at anytime on first down second and third down fourth down on two point conversions. It wasn't just his fault a month after that game he was at the. NFL combine he met with Bill Belichick alone and they met for hours and he wanted to talk to bill about being a head coach but he also WanNa talk about that game and what went wrong and it was something that Bella L. A.. Check really respected. That Kyle had gone and done that. And I actually think it helped pave the way for the Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Coming up how. The forty niners landed their franchise quarterback.

"Heard a lot of people say dope in a little bit of A. We'll go so we can see them. rings coach. I I think because I've been saying that you do. I tried. I tried America and my goal is to be All right coach. Speaking of coaches cow Shanahan is making his super bowl debut as head coach last time he coached in the Super Bowl. It was three years ago. It was super bowl. Fifty one John and he was the offensive. Coordinator of the Falcons. When the Falcons Boo Twenty eight to three lead to the Patriots he then went home empty-handed even though a few seasons have passed? Shane remember the lessons. He learned in that game. There's definitely parts that Super Bowl that I would love to have back and stuff i. It was very hard on myself but you know the whole narrative of what Iran that we would have one. I know that wasn't the case. I know it went into that game and all the stuff that happened. So that's something to bother me. I won't say that I ever relaxed Super Bowl especially with Tom. Brady having a bowl. But that's something that keeps you humble on board every single moment until the game's over coach. What do you think Shanahan can learn from what happened in that game that he can take into this super bowl matchup against the chiefs? Y you see what he learned even this this past game where every every inclination of an offensive coordinator who is also the head coach. When you've got a quarterback blake link Jimmy Garoppolo in an offense like he has is the throw the ball more but he was he was he was a yeah? It was going well. He was limited to eight passes. which is an incredible all number to me? That's a direct reflection of what he learned and you go through a lot of lessons in life but in the NFL and when you go through a lesson that's as painful for as the one that he went through you're gonNA have a plan in place. In in in his defense. There was a head coach who could have trump them at any point on any those different drives and now he is the head coach. I'm sure he's going through that situation. Ideal you're in that situation being up as much as they were. But he's GonNa cover that with his coordinators maybe in a way that that he wished it had been covered when when he was in the same spot. Or the other. And I understand Shanahan's point and I'm not attorney relitigate super bowl fifty one but his that we couldn't just run it every single time at kind of true what's also true is run it or or not. They were not taking the play clock down within five seconds as when you have that type of lead especially late in the game has changed winning. You still have a lead you absolutely have to do. And and what was the most critical of all the errors was what they did or more accurately what they didn't do after. Julio Jones made the catch that it should iced the game that catch we thought it was one of the greatest catches. Who's right there alongside? The Mario Manningham catch the Super Bowl. You one where it's like. Oh my God how did he make AAC that throw and that catch will now they are going to win. Third the twenty two yard line up eight points inside a four minutes if you just were too and I know you can't you. You wouldn't just take knees in that spot if you trust your field goal kicker the game's over and said they put themselves in a position where they took sacks where they stopped the clock and that's why the Patriots were able to come back. But I do think you learn from that. I think it's unfortunate that he had to learn from it and that painful of a fashion but two coaches point. I think he has shown shown that type of growth as far as style. And this is something you guys did so well in New England that you did well in your coaching stops style. points are fake. It is not about how how you win. The game is about. Did you win the game. There comes a point in a game and the niners. I'm MM CERTAIN THEIR THEIR BEST game plan and their hope is that this happens in the Super Bowl. We're opponent is no longer your opponent we're opponent is the clock and once that happens in your game plan has to go out the window and you start playing against the clock especially since they changed the onside kick rules to where it becomes an onside kick game. You've essentially lost which is different than even during that Super Bowl. So that's I think Shannon has learned even if he's doing a little revisionist history as far as what happened Super Bowl and I think we have seen in these playoffs so far. Yeah when you find yourself on the wrong side of Super Bowl history you. You're going to remember the lessons that come out of that experience. And I think that last week's game against the packers an example of Kyle Shanahan growing as a play call because I haven't met an offense coordinator that doesn't want to throw the ball all around the yard but the fact that he was able to stay with the run to the tune racking up nearly three hundred yards rushing and only allow in your quarterback to throw the ball eight times. I think that that's significant growth. But that's also recognizing housing the strengths of your team and playing to them. If you look at Super Bowl fifty one. When they played the Patriots they had success running the football in the first half? So you would think if if something's working let's stay with it and force them to stop it when they forced them to stop it when they stop it. Then we'll come up with another way to be able to try to have productivity on the opposite side of the the ball but you make them stop what you do. Well I and if they never do it well. That's to your advantage. So I think that that's a big thing that he can take out of it but I also wonder how Kyle Shanahan will do on this stage and terms of overall game management. Because it's different when you think about it from a play calling standpoint as opposed to managing the game feeling the heartbeat of the game and making decisions in real time recognizing the pressure in the magnitude of the moment. So that's something to watch for. Now he's got a great resource in his family tree tree. His Dad has been on that stage multiple times. So I'm sure you can lean on them from that but I'd be interested to see how he handles that because the super bowl is not just any other game and if you try to sell that to your team what to yourself. You're only doing yourself a disservice when you when you look at decisions that oftentimes we're so results oriented and I get that so you also have to look at the process to how you got those resulting and was that flawed as you move forward and they weren't running the ball very well in the second half and I. I think there was this mentality. Would that offense they were. They were the I believe the best offense in the league that year the eight highest offenses in League in League history so there was that the mindset of. We're going to go win this game as opposed to. We're not going to lose this game and when when you look back at things people criticize you weren't conservative enough but if you get to conservative then people criticize the other way and say you're one of the eighth best offenses ever in NFL history. But yeah you went into a shell. So it's IT'S I. I don't think it's completely fair to just retroactively. Look at this and say you know I. It's all you're listening. You're totally right. And I could see you already. percolating with the chiefs game plan with what the chiefs did in the second half against the titans when they were once they got up eleven and they started it just running the football. If Patrick doesn't complete that third and six bomb Sammy Watkins. Put the game away if that goes incomplete and now all of a sudden it's like wait you guys were it just annihilating them through the air. Then you start running. It had been old Andy Reid. You know exact from the game. That's exactly what it felt like it where it was headed there and so I totally understand. I think it's a really good point. The point I'm making is for that specific game. You when you say. Let's go win it. They want it when Julio caught out that. Pass when when you're when you're at the twenty two yard line inside a four minutes up eight unless again unless you're field goal. Kickers torn his hamstring. And you can't you're indoors with a chance to go up. Eleven and make sure the other team has no timeouts left that what the aggressive play was to Julio and you won the game there and they kept their foot on the gas. They're calling two more plays on. Dr Knocked him out of field goal range. That's the part that it does appear. Shanahan certainly has learned for Shannon's about to play a team who who raised a twenty four point deficit themselves.

Hot Seat Szn: The NFL Coaching Carousel

"Dan You talked about. How if it's only been a year? Sometimes a team will say. Let's give this guy a chance to turn things around. But it's been a couple of years in in Detroit with Matt Patricia. Why do you think that team came out before black Monday? And said we're going to hang onto him despite the fact that he's one In two seasons as many games as Jim Caldwell one in a single season before he was fired in Detroit I think the key is bob coined the GM right he comes from New England. He gets rid of Caldwell he goes and six out Patricia who knows from New England and he has sold ownership on. We can build this thing. Long-term here's what Martha firestone foreign said about her decision to bring back both former patriots quote. We expect to be a playoff contender. We expect to play meaningful games in December as she's referring bring to next season when she brings him back whatever he's told them about here are signs that it can work. They've bought whether they're correct or not. I think you know the former New England crew. That's running the Detroit. Lions has convinced Detroit Lions Ownership. Here's why this can work here. We're sorry it hasn't worked right away but two years isn't long enough. Give us another chance. And we'll see how much does the GM matter when we're looking at these teams in trying to evaluate whether or not they're going to move on from their head coach well matters a lot. It commensurate a couple of different ways one. How tied together are they did the GM hire the coach? And right now when when Quinn goes Detroit cold wells already there. You figure we'll cold well. It's not going to last because Quinn's GonNa WanNa bring in his own Guy Lo and behold that happen happen so if you are the guy that the GM hired that might help you if you are the guy that GM hired but it's going poorly and you're the the first guy the GM hired then. Recent history has shown us that you are the one in trouble and the GM is not there are coaches out. There that will tell you that. GM sits in the owner's box. He talks to the owner all game. He's the voice he hears while the coaches are down there on the field losing and it's pretty easy for the GM that kind of position himself. Like hey this isn't my fault. Let's make a change and try it another either way. I do think there are situations where you see more and more around the league where it goes in the other direction where. The coach kind of picks up in San Francisco. John Lynch came because Kyle Shanahan wanted wanted him in Buffalo Brandon. Beane came because Sean McDermott wanted him so I like that. Formula Teens are using now or they get the coach. I coach brings in mm somebody. He knows he can believe in. They understand the salary cap in the same way and can do all that administrative stuff together. I think that's that's a formula that looks like it's working in a few spots.

NFL Week 8 Monday Night Football Betting Picks: Miami Dolphins at Pittsburgh Steelers

"Welcome in to the the board podcast powered by Fox bet week eight Monday night football edition dolphins steelers y'all are pretty excited for which would be a barn burner of a football game I'm your host firm joined by my colleague coast the one the only pain insider lots of enthusiasm I'm trying pain I'm not a premature whistle blower like we saw in Nashville but I still haven't positive mindsets get this thing going believe it you can achieve it and it wasn't the results were looking for either the college or professional football rain six but we persevere we continue to plow ahead and no we have a long season left in front of us so as we do every Monday we'll start the good the bad and the ugly we of course Dr Chow waiting in the wings to break down what the JJ watt injury means for the Houston Texans and he'll update us and some of our favorite quarterbacks the pain. Let's go glass half full what did you see this weekend that had you excited and brimming with optimism where do we start so much Scott the forty niners because I always leave things are more impressive when prior to the game it's not supposed to look that way so we a significant professional money come in on Carolina so it makes the win even more impressive to me personally because I just feel like they exceeded expectation and I managed and I think we both did here right to avoid this game now we dead value is certainly on Carolina like numbers wise right when you look at the number got six six and a half earlier in the week like Mason Rudolph was catching that same number in his first start ever on the road so value is I get it but I think we talked Thursday which is like a horrific matchup right Carolina doesn't have left tackle Bosa continues to like full-blown just eat out there I think he's got the highest pressure rate he's on pace to set the highest pressure rate for any rookie in NFL history right now kyle kind of talked about this the one above it average pass defense he played he struggled against earlier in the season which was Jacksonville the forty niners would obviously be even tougher than that he was the most inaccurate quarterback in terms of completion percentage expectation of sixteen percent below expectations the worst so far this week and we saw that at there wasn't very good can't stop the run we talked about that Cohen Short once he went out for the season and there was a big check mark there offensively from what I'm what I'm seeing from the forty niners is is Kyle Shanahan is just ahead of his time with what he's doing even though it's very basic right it's I think he's in this concerts jokingly kind of the real inventor of the exotic smashmouth right the ball is just like spread around there's all these interchangeable parts wide receivers are getting handoffs but like at its core it's very simple offense and I think the scary part here todd is like you look or seven and no right now in the NFC but they're without their left tackle there without the right tackle there without their versatile full-back call us check and I think I could wrong about this and it's probably not worth the money was paid but I feel like Jimmy G. has another gear that we haven't seen yet either which makes this forty-nine seem really scary well and I think some of that's got to be by design if you're Kyle Shanahan why reveal all your cards when you don't have to right now and then there's no doubt that Jimmy G. High profile passing attack is somewhere there I imagine as they can can you to build chemistry with Emmanuel Sanders able to get into the end zone and his forty niners debut it makes his team even scarier and I know pain we don't talk a lot about futures here because guys don't have access turn prices and you Never WanNa do hyperbole but right now when you look at the NFC or the forty niners the team to beat the more complete package outside of experience levels than the New Orleans saints tough to you obviously love with the saints are doing especially defensively that front seven has really taken another step I do feel like whoever gets home field advantage because the saints home field advantage so massive you'd give the you'd leaned that way with ever team had home field advantage certainly the games get a little bit tougher here in the next few weeks off for the forty niners so we'll see what they're made of but man ah X. still kind of leaned saints especially if they were the team that got home field advantage going to be interesting NFC playoff picture definitely a number of teams on their best day more than capable of putting up crooked numbers and more importantly getting stops on the defensive side but aside from the forty niners pain or are there any other teams and our individual performances that really stood out to you Daniel Jones right if you're a giants fan you have to pretty encouraged in whether you could've met seventeen or six I mean that's it's kind of a relevant at this point you know and I liked I saw accuracy wise again delivered a completion percentage five and a half percent greater than expectations four touchdowns no picks and I think that that last part there with the no picks is really impressive when you look at how aggressive he was six most aggressive quarterback in week eight so far obviously two games tonight but of all the quarterbacks that have played so far six most aggressive and the other thing is when you look at how he's doing it right now in general young quarterback he's been pressured a shit ton right forty six percent of its drawbacks pressured on the season most in the NFL among qualifying quarterbacks and he's this young young he hasn't flinched yet so I I really like I think you have to be happy for your giants fan of what the future could be with Daniel Jones so fantastic performance although in a loss did did get back door there so I know a lot of giants backers were happy that was the sharp side again closed five and a half some places so Daniel Jones got the pros money and look good again that he did one ill advised throw cost him dearly early in the game came back up the fumble yeah it was the fumble that probably could have gone I mean you it's a turnover no matter how you slice it but interception fumble just not sure he's doing it to throw but for anybody to watch that game was interesting there was a bad penalty at the tail end of the first half where the giants allegedly rough the ultimate leads the three for the lions and changed the dynamic a little bit in that context wonder if the giants would have actually had a chance to win that game outright if things had played differently but for alliance do nothing but bad luck I guess they wrote a break or two in that extra appointments made things a little wonky to some of the decision making it the nail to me how to chase a two and it's one of those things where you just start chasing points and you open that Pandora's box and if you don't convert things continue to create that downward spiral but a good performance from Daniel Jones you mentioned his second career game over three hundred yards four touchdowns then a nice job against a depleted lions secondary with the good I want to add one other into it of course it was in a losing effort Mike Evans yet again puts up Gargantuan numbers eleven catches hundred ninety eight yards and two touchdowns but one of those things that I'm not quite sure why the bucks don't look for Evans and crunch time when he was the stat stuffer all game long and the titans apparently had no answer in their secondary starting to get doubled a little bit dried movement of the slot to get them open and got doubled again so you know he had forty four percent of the buccaneers area are gesture die but obviously not enough however no you want to praise him and you probably didn't turn on the game quick enough but he did have the bad drop on the opening drive in the end zone the bucks were forced to settle for three instead of seven I did I did see that drop bring it up I do want to ask you about that when you throw through a little bit of congestion I know Matt Melons in your hands catch the ball all right so I wanted to find out so you your opinion is now well documented around Mike Evans if you're going to be elite God damn elite all right so that that's where I'm going with it was just really annoying game not going to complain right side wrong result and you go into halftime with the two hundred fifteen yards seventy one yard edge you trail that's a problem and then I thought we were gold right you fight your way back you blow you get up six late in the third quarter and then you know you hope officials can do their job good for Devon white by the way rookie did a fantastic job there sniff out fake laid to feel them out it was like a WWF and I believe they're wwe now but I'm old so wwf like a clothesline he just sent the snapper into orbit there in the all clearly comes out its return for a touchdown of course they blow their whistle so you can't you can't review it and it was a turnover on downs anyways because it was fourth down so said of a seven air when bucks up three with under Ford ago we were still down four in the problem is that you know you're not gonna your situation where it's four down territory or not kicking field goal to cover the spread for the good guys chase kicked to feel go forty eight yarder right through the UPRIGHTS two minutes to go get outta dodge with a one point loss single text bruce and eh lepers no team bet the board it's all about covering the number not winning games outraged good guy might have done it now if the good come the bad and this one is tough for me to kind of put down pain because I think they were very good for three quarters but it's the kind of game that you have to win on the road you're at the tail end of it's been a mammoth road trip the Oakland raiders finishing the game against Houston Texans were nearly two yards per play better as far as net is concerned and you look they did give up some penalty yards and everything else they had the football a lot less but they had an excellent chance to win the game on the road they outscored in the fourth quarter and to Shawn Watts and make some let real place to get the Texans the outright victory Deshaun Watson in Hopkins it's like the Russell Wilson Lockwood combination those two geysers like carrying goddamn franchise right now because Bill Brian is just continues to be a mess anyways I hate being singular play guy but you're one and you have a chance to kind of I don't WanNa say ice the game with your offense but certainly go up eight or if you decided to be a savage go for the to to put it up nine and there is a plan like second and six from the Houston twenty four in Gruden calls a run play and you'll lose a yard and now you're backed up to third wall and then you Veasley incomplete there and and you settle for a field goal only go for I love Josh Jacobs but the Texans Defense is superior against the run than it is pass in the Texans secondary isn't link absolute shambles with injuries right and they were down another starter who got injured in the game and as an offense you got tyrone Williams back and Jones who you trade four finally like kind of got into the fold now that he understands the offense after you were healthy as you've been at receiver like virtually all season attack the weakness man put it in the air instead then do that in that one specific drive could've put him up potentially two scores if they'd went for two and you rely on your defense against Watson and you got burn so to me there is some some mismanagement there was some playcalling late in that game as you kind of alluded to but they did blow sure well you mentioned mismanagement pain and it's funny you use such a word choice where do we want to go to Chicago bears and how they handled their performance against the chargers so I didn't watch the game because I couldn't dedicate enough time to it I'm GonNa go back and actually watch today it's one of those games that was really intriguing to me because guys that uh yeah I work with love the charger so much and they with the chargers plus four and a half and plus four I didn't see it so when there's games that's where my guys like adamant that this is the side and I don't see it myself on my I gotTa really pay close attention to this and because I have add I can't do that with like watching games so two one on and watch today but as I'm like tracking the play by play and now that I'm like looking at the data we just download it charges were not decide and we had this debate all week long and you may see something different but the charges were not decide but I'll let you share what you saw from the data I mean I'm just looking at just like two hundred and thirty one total yards of offense in the year two thousand nineteen on the road and you're only getting what would have been like three point two closing number I don it doesn't look like just by all the data that that was the right side

"Well where the forty Niners were also kind of lurking around the edges waiting to see if Levy on bell was going to be interested in not going to the jets. Well, don't forget this reunites Kevin Coleman with Kyle Shanahan and Coleman. Probably had his most productive season the year. The falcons went to the Super Bowl when Kyle Shanahan was the offense. Coordinator kind of that complimentary back to devante Freeman. So maybe he intends to use Coleman. Exactly the way he was used in Atlanta. Yeah. No. I listen. I've always been a fan of jerick. "Speaking of your dad actually wanna play this. This is know Colin cowherd was trying to do a speech about why the giants. It doesn't work out with Odell Beckham and he's saying that you know, Odell Beckham a little crazy, a little sexy and the giants. They are the opposite of that. And this is what he said about the giants and their history was star share. You look at the history of the New York Giants look at their stars Mark beforre, Phil Makanji, David Tyree, Jeff, Hostetler. Phil Simms. Anybody, anybody got an Espresso, even your stars are boring. Who I mean, you know, he did a really good job of trying to not name like the biggest stars, which would be who I, I mean, Lawrence Taylor. I mean, yeah, sure. Lacks co bursts. Well, I mean, there's been a number Jeremy shockey. He's been there. It's been like this choir boy setting, Tiki barber. Was he acquired Boyko? Everybody hated him in the NFL. Pretty sure I get the I know what he's trying to say. It is kind of an understated organization, the Maras or that type of family?

To five. Forty pre-game six forty first pitch. You're on kmby are six. Seventy sports leader I have here my hands A list of names that John Lund and Kevin Franson we'll have on their program starting at three o'clock here, on be our Brian Sabin Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo line and France and down at. The Niners facility and Santa. Clara training camp ongoing and even aware in the early stages of it seemed to, be going smoothly The training camp Just, like spring training a major league baseball gets. You work in, don't get, hurt of course talking about two completely different sports football is almost designed for you, to get hurt but I think you've already had a couple of situations where guys have gotten hurt season ending injuries. In training camp I think the Packers lost themselves a linebacker to. A ligament, injury, the chargers yes the chargers lost an. Oft injured player he's a cornerback tore. His achilles, tendon once again you just I guess the knocking sound if it doesn't work with this. Gigantic Winston, on, the microphone but you just knock on. Whatever surfaces close to you that the. Niners who, are better With talent still thin and a lot of places you just hope that guys don't get hurt you up the frontline frontline guys don't get hurt and you hope the guys that, aren't even necessarily household names with the Niners if they don't, get hurt. Either because they need the depth and. They're kind of still in a position at certain positions where, they they'd figure out who, can play, in who, can not play but injuries that's just, a part of, the deal you. Just hope us under those serious career ending or season I should say ending injuries but yeah Kevin Francis John Lund down. At the Niners facility Kyle Shanahan Jimmy Garoppolo and Brian and of course to talk about the giants speaking of the Niners, and compensating about what's happening down there at Santa Clara Eric branch covers the Niners for the San Francisco Chronicle will. Join me look bit fifteen minutes or so away from now and we'll get the latest, and greatest song what seems to be very professional and quiet thankfully trained camp for your San Francisco forty Niners this is back? To a story that we, started talking, about and, I haven't checked the internet's as of, late I I, can only assume. I don't even need to check that urban Meyer is no longer the coach at Ohio State right he's he's he's he's. Still there still has a job arrest does job as the head coach of Ohio State football the Ohio State pardon me, yes because you could get it confused between Ohio State in the Ohio State sorry didn't mean to make that air The football coach at the Ohio State University has not been. Fired, yet he's still has a job How is that. Again it just it, must be paperwork it's gotta, be paperwork it's urban Meyer is bad for business, so one with think as I told you. Earlier urban Meyer lost the sponsorship to Bob Evans restaurants which apparently is. A big thing in Ohio Never heard of. It I guess it's good food who. Knows a remind lost, his sponsorship he's bad for, business for Bob Evans restaurants when does urban Meyer, become bad for business for the big business That is the Ohio State University football Iraq witted guy that was not a very good guy It's the things you shouldn't do been doing those. Things even when he was at, Florida is. Doing things you should do wide receiver Here's the thing. That baffles me about it And I have to try to be baffled about this, situation because if you really think about it it'll. Turn your stomach because of the domestic abuse Allegations at this point it it happened You're, rolling thick with a. Wide receiver coach I could see it this guy was, your longtime, defensive coordinator, or your longtime offensive coordinator but man you stick. In. Your life, for, the wide receiver coach I, mean listen I get it that coaching it's it's a real tight and. Sometimes not, necessarily the good weight fraternity. But man you gotta. Wire receiver coach, that's a habitual lines stepper. To me it's a little, bit, easier, just go ahead and, say hey man this point to work but now wide receiver coach very important to urban Meyer and so important to the point. Where he forgot dot some minor details all right Details When asked about this coaching Is unfortunate ability to keep his hands of his. Just. Definitely not. Let's sale through that loophole anyway. So Kyle Shanahan the forty Niners head coach obviously grew up around our age. Yes. He grew up a little Wayne fan obviously. And when he had a son with his wife, he named his son Carter after a little Wayne. That's that's a little wins name, given name birth name? Correct. Also, the name of the album's Carter Carter to right, of course. So what is a little wind do? What does we do? "Last year matt with kyle shanahan numbers home was arguably as good as aaron rodgers so i went through the entire nfl i picked solely on quarterback i have brady beating breeze and as i look at it the only time i struggle with this you could say matt ryan jared golf but i think this right now jared's playing better than matt ryan and i think right now tyron taylor is better than blake border in this moment because of his mobility so when you look at this bracket dea kinda by best port quarterback went in the playoffs yet one i agree with christine that it's kind of creepy creepy look it's kind of miro mugshot yana collection of heads yes and then they did the fact that you black the mountain only brady using color you of weird that would that's a little weird i knew at that of but i will say that i have a hard time arguing that pole when you look at that it but i like the i think the thing that would change that for me is if you had a unit that was a once in a generational unit did you ever phase one of those yeah the the ravens in two thousand okay told us so we go to play now i'm sorry if you have a if you're facing like an all time by the way what was the denver secondary couple of years ago it was called the nofly zone north flies aren't they can change best quarterbackrunning so you've got has got a great defense but is there one guy that you look at and say if we don't find a way to double team that guy every single play he's going to wreck this game now is that they've got a lot of really good griffin's good player hundreds good player led built joseph's a great player.
