"The fantasy gospel according to brother Jefferson. I feel good. I know that it's a God. Someone. Okay, very good. Yes, sir. You know, I love fantasy football. And if love a fantasy football is wrong. I don't want to be right. But you see, I want to lead you down the path to fantasy glory brothers and sisters. So I ask is that you listen to the hymnal of brother Jefferson. Yes, indeed. All right, now I'd like to start you off with who's not him. These are the guys who will not, and I repeat will not lead you down the road of the fantasy glory, all right? And we're talking about Jerry Judy of the Broncos right receiver. The Chargers ranked number one against number two wide receivers this year, Jerry Judy's at number two, starting slot back Brian Callahan. He's done a great job of locking down the inside, so Russell Wilson not playing that great. I'm thinking something might get the looks. I'm saying stay away from Jerry Judy this week. JK dobbins is another one. He wasn't used in their two minute offense last week. Can Drake played a hundred percent of the two minute drill. Plus, your boy guts Edwards, Chrissy's coming back. He's coming back. I used to say you got to JK dobbins, brothers and sisters. He is not him. Let him slide this week. And then Kyle Pitts, I don't even think I need to say anything about it. Has he been him? I thought maybe this could be looking at the schedule. This could be a shootout. This won't be a shootout, no offense, Sarah, but your brother, Kyle Pitts, he's got to stay on the bench. Even healthy to play this week because he didn't play last week. He is. All right, now brothers and sisters. These players. Yes, I say these plays are going to lead you down the path of glory. They're going to lead you to the land of milk and honey, yes. All right, remind Dre Stevens. You guys know how I feel about mongering, right? The week one last year in the preseason, rich, you know this, I picked Monday out of the special team. And I said, that guy's got something. Book of ramendra, you have been reading from yesterday. And yes, sir. Here's a little weird stat, right? The browns are the 32nd run defense in this league. Oh boy. And he also ranked 31st in tackling and brother Stevenson, he leads the NFL with 50 broken tackles. So he will run buck wild this week against Brown EDL. Yes, Tyler Boyd. I just got a feeling that this saints Bengals game is gonna be shoot out. Joe burrow's gonna take his back at LSU. We might throw 7 touchdowns, he probably won't, but I think Tyler Boyd is in line for a huge game. And you know, I like to pick something that a lot of guys aren't talking about, and that's someone or something, his brother Alex pierce. Why receiver of the cult? Yes. His participation increased 75% in a week 5. He let his team targets. I think his snaps are going to increase because I don't know what's going on with Paris Campbell. And brothers and sisters on the road to riches and diamond rings. Real players, they do real things, and that is the gospel, the fantasy gospel, according to brother Jefferson. Can I get an amen? Let us play. Let us play. Brother Jefferson, can you damn the home plate umpire in The Bronx to hell? Is that possible? A man to temptation. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Evil.

"He doesn't do it very often. So that's kind of what it's been, but yeah, they're obviously they're moving forward defensively. They're going to be a headache for a lot of teams down the stretch here. And they're two in one. Good for them. Yeah. I think he sort of and this is what I had worried about initially. I do think that Justin Fields is growing as a passer, but he's had to not do that. He's had to do the opposite of that a lot of times. To where I don't know what comes. I don't know what you get on the back end of year three, right? And maybe there's a lot of that's just the independent work that you're doing. That can help negate some of the fact that you have to get out of the pocket really quickly sometimes, but who knows? But some neat little play calls there, I thought they were some of the end around stuff I thought was pretty cool. And yeah, good for them. I mean, they're winning, they're winning the games that I feel like, you know, the forty-niners game was, was your neutral field like slop world game. So you kind of throw that one out and you consider them like, okay, this is, they won a game that they were sort of even with their opponent in terms of not greatness. Falcons Seahawks. So I don't want to get carried away, but I did pronounce the falcons as the worst 7 win team NFL history last year. They were completely unwatchable. I'm coming around a little bit. Yeah, baby. I know you're really into what they were doing week one. I'm really into what they were doing for the first 15 minutes of week one. Okay, okay. Yeah, I'm not, I'm not on the bandwagon. I'm not gonna say they're wonderful or really good to watch, but you know, they go out to Seattle, Seahawks not very good, but still you gotta go from Atlanta Seattle. That's a long trip. Yeah, they've manufactured touches for Kyle Pitts a couple times today, and yeah, they got a little bit of juice in that pass Russian. There might be something here. They got their first one of the year. And I will point out, I reference it often because it is my Bible, the luck adjusted point differential, which I need a, I need to find a new acronym for it. It's LAPD right now. I need to make it like kings barrier or something like that. Just to point out some of the absurdity here, but very small sample size, obviously through two weeks, I just expect to see the falcons at the bottom of this thing, but they've been so bad in the red zone.

"Alrighty, giants, first round pass rusher, cave on thibodeau expected to miss three to four weeks due to a sprained MCL that was suffered on a much discussed play in the team's most recent pre season game, swag you are defensive lineman. How big a deal is it for The Rookie to miss this time? Well, it's a big deal because he has not a lot of NFL experience and these reps are very important when you're trying to get ready for a regular season, but obviously the news that came back about cake buns need is actually good news based on how it looked initially, but this time of missing reps and building that rapport with you guys is critical for rookies. I just hope when he gets back, he's fully healthy and there's no need, it's not a rush in his mind to get going. Will he agree with you all about the big picture here for cave on thibodaux? Let's go from the New York Giants to the New York jet one that I football the falcons take it on the jets Marcus Mariota gets the start for Atlanta and Tim, I know it just preseason games. I know it's a reserve level defensive back, but Kyle Pitts. Ridiculous. Come on, get it. Listen, that is a tight end, whether you want to treat them with a tight end or not. That is a tight end running right by a corner. Deserve or not. This hall was drafted to play corn on the National Football League, and he was trying to squat on. Kyle Pitts. It took him one catch Kyle Pitts to show that he's had enough work for the night. Here's Marcus Mariota connecting with lamine and K is in the back of the end zone. Nice throw right there on a line RTT. Yes, it is. Marcus Mariota is showing people that he's ready to maximize his second opportunity and that desert murder is going to have to. Pump the brakes a little bit there. And Desmond Ritter did play well last night as well, but it seems like Mario and is settling in to this starting role. And Tim, I think the falcons generally have been pretty impressive so far this preseason. Why don't we talk more about that offense? I think part of it is this. I think we all tried to not overreact to the preseason. Try. At the same time, you know, we don't want a hundred react to it as well. And I do think there is an element. Look, everyone's been doing jumping jacks about what Kenny Pickett has done in Pittsburgh and quite honestly, all the Pittsburgh quarterbacks. And everyone's all fired up about Trey Lance because he went four for 5 against the Green Bay Packers. And I think if you were going to kind of apply that same logic, you would have to be just as excited about Marcus Mariota who, by the way, through two preseason games has put a lot of good stuff on film, whether it's throws like we saw to Kyle Pitts and then a lot of days of kiss on the post or taken off and running and creating offense and then when you think about the fact that Arthur Smith has been with him in the past and there's a familiarity there and maybe there's an appreciation and better understanding of kind of playing the position for Marcus at this stage of his career. And so look, I think they're improved. I don't think there's any doubt that they will be better than they were a year ago. I feel that way and I think that Marcus is a good fit for that. But I also think we all need to say like this is also pre season. See, I was trying to get excited just for a minute because of preseason games and there goes Tim with his rational level headed football analysis. Let's turn now to the jets with you Robert and also Diana and hard to take away much from what you look at me. Look at that offense last night, obviously no Zach Wilson, no Joe Flacco. A Diana, when do you expect the jets to have Zach Wilson back on the field? Well, first let's give some credit to Joe Flacco, who was a little bit of a news breaker last night in his interview with Laura Rutledge, who shared Zach Wilson's progression right now, which is the fact that he's been moving around since he had that surgery out in Los Angeles over a week ago now. So that's really good news concerning we haven't heard anything about how Zach has felt since that surgery. And the sense I've been getting talking to New York today is that they feel really good that Zach will be able to go even before week one. But they're not going to take that risk. They really want him to rehab, he'll be ready to go. So I think in a perfect world, it's going to be when they feel most confident to roll them out there, but they are going to be smart about this and not take that risk. Robert, when healthy, do you think this is an offense that should scare people? Well, Phil, this is a complete projection because we haven't seen it yet, but this offensive skill group can get it done with the best of them. You're talking about that wide receiver having Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis, Braxton barrios. And running back, they got breece hall and Michael Carter at Titan they got CJ uzama and it's un it all comes down to the quarterback. That's what it is. Joe Flacco's won a Super Bowl, but can he still get it done at 37 years old? Zach Wilson, being out for so long, he doesn't have those reps. So I'm excited for the jets fans because they finally have pieces in place to go out and be successful and put points on the board, but once again, he's going to come down to the quarterback position and whether or not they can get it done there. They have people on the offensive skill group that can create mismatches all over the field, but can they deliver? Robert, you're right about, you know, in terms of the quarterback. Like the reality is it really wasn't a great rookie season for Zach Wilson. And so what is the improvement look like? And I think that's why so many people were kind of really upset about seeing the injury because they thought, all right, well, wait a second. That means we don't have these pre seasoned reps. And then I think the other thing you have to take into consideration is, are you healthy week one? Yeah. Or you better off being healthy week three. And that's something that you've got to deal with as you're trying to get a young player reps. One thing working in Zach Wilson's favor is that of the four rookie quarterbacks from the first round that actually started and played significant time last year. He's the only one that brings back the same offensive coordinator, Mike Lafleur, still at the control panels there for the New York Jets. Hey, so up next, after trading away AJ Brown, there's been some concern around the league about the Titans offense. Don't tell RG three that. He thinks they have the ingredients. For some serious success. NFL live is brought to you by Pizza Hut. No one out pizzas the hut. So the bills had one of the NFL's punter competitions during training camp. Rookie Matt ariza, we call them the punt God, officially won the job when Matt hack was released this week. What would he build this 81 yarder? Here's Josh Allen, who offered up an alternative nickname to the punt God that I think might be more appropriate. His nickname in college, I think everybody knows what it is. I saw something on Twitter though, you know, try to keep him off the field and he'll be the whole God. Not the punk God the whole God, so I saw it on Twitter. That's pretty funny. Don't tell him we said that. I mean, with the way the bills offense is humming right now, swiggy. That seems appropriate. Yeah. Yeah. Josh and that offense look like they gonna score every time they touch the ball. And when they don't met only gonna have to punt it like ten yards. So yeah, they'll be the whole guy. I keep saying it just feels like the bills year. I know we got to play the game, but still feels like the bills year to me. Let's talk about the Titans, though, is rookie quarterback Malik Wilkes is starting my leak will is starting to show some signs of improvement in training camp and his first touchdown pass and the team's most recent preseason game. He also rushed for 42 yards on 5 Gary. He's a great athlete. And this guy is fun to watch. However, as we know, Brian Tannehill is still the guy in Tennessee. He's looking to prove again why he can be QB one in Nashville, the Titans veterans saw a significant drop off in production last season after ranking top four both QBR and touchdown interception ratio in 2020. Even with the dip in production, Tannehill and the Titans still had the number one seed in the AFC, and he ranked 8th in total QBR last season.

"It's because it's not right to do. John Sally was going to FaceTime Rodman, but then we realized he didn't probably only had a flip phone, so he couldn't really face them. I mean, that's a hell of a flex. I don't like the flex either. I don't know. What do I need to flex for? If Al's not doing anything right now, he's probably playing golf. It could be. Yeah, he could be eating a steak. One thing he's definitely not doing is eating a vegetable. That's crazy to me. Okay, so mandatory mini camp for the New York Jets, and I know many of you might be sitting at home saying so what? And I say so what this. Okay? Okay, 'cause we're all talking about everybody else in the American football conference and rightfully. So the Buffalo Bills are Super Bowl favorites. The Miami Dolphins have totally retooled on offense now with tyreek hill there in the coach to a tee. Two and on is everywhere. Hashtag two and on is everywhere now. Okay, the Patriots of the Patriots. I said earlier to start the show, the Steelers are the most overlooked team and the AFC north because we're all talking about the Sean Watson and small massage towels and we're talking about Joey burrow and the defending champion AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals and we're talking about Lamar Jackson and the ravens and we're talking about the Tennessee Titans and we're talking about even the Jacksonville Jaguars more. The colts have Matt Ryan. The AFC west is the deepest division maybe in the history of deep divisions. What about the New York Jets? What about them? They got sauce gardener. They got Garrett Wilson. They got Jermaine Johnson the second, then they got priest hall. And then, and then they got on the field this week, and they're seeing Zach Wilson. Look improved. Playing fast plants smart. This is head coach Robert sala about the New York Jets quarterback year two. Obviously it's for document editor of rookie year. I mean, we all did. I did include myself. So just in terms of growing this, people are forgetting that he's got a young offensive supporting cast as receivers are young. His backs are young, the old line is just gelling together. He's young. And so for Zach, really, it's just a continued to progress and becoming the start of that starting quarterback and moving in the direction that we all know that he's capable of. He doesn't need to be Tom Brady this year. He doesn't need to beat nafi ends up being that. That's awesome. But that's not the expectation from the expectations for him to continue to climb that mountain that's quarterback playing his league. I think Zach ceiling is exactly what I think he thinks is stealing is, which is no limit to what we think he's capable of. And I mean that genuinely. To try to blow through the ceiling without really being a master of the one O one aspect of football is unfair and is unfair to himself. And to continue taking those steps for him. Yeah, he's a competitor. He wants explosive plays. He wants he wants like you said, he wants to be the best quarterback in the league day one, which we all want to be the best at what we do. But it's not about for him. It's not about being the best today. It's about being your best today. And whatever your best is today, trust that it's good enough and that you'll be grow into whatever your best whatever you are to maximize. And I believe it's going to be special. But it's got to continue growing. Coaches graduated from play boring. To a lot more of. A, what I say, much more rosy outlook there. That's better than play born. Remember last year's playbook. My God, just get rid of the football. My God, just get it out. Don't turn it over. He sounded like my fourth grade teacher, mister Robinson, who used to tell us every morning, good, better, best, never let it rest. To your good gets better and your better gets best. That's what that sounded like. You sure it wasn't Dr. Seuss? Jacked it from Dr. Seuss. That's what we were told every morning. That's what he sounded like. Cat in the hat. Yeah. Let me just say this. What did I say? Reverse. I think you said hat in the cat. Which is possible. Kat could eat a hat. Yeah. But that's just weird. Look, man. It last year was play boring. Be like Mike. White. That's a difference between be the Michael Jordan and cleats that now is in Cleveland for different reasons. But let me just say this. The ceiling, everybody keeps saying is mahomes. And I get what Robert solace saying is get down the nuts and bolts. You get the nuts and bolts down. That's when you can take chances and rely on your instincts and rely on your physical gifts. Everybody sleeping on the jets. Exactly. Zach put on some weight to sleep. Everybody keeps sleeping on them. I'm talking myself into this too. I need a few more weeks to go. What exactly are you talking about? I can't even talk myself into expressing what I'm talking myself into just yet. But he's right, the coach is saying they're young. Dude, they're young. They're young. And they are young and good..

"Run out and put it in the hole. Back behind the tree. Just so he could see 60 year old white guys going crazy and ripping off their shirts like Brandi Chastain and writing each other like ponies and he thought it was the greatest thing ever. And so the bartenders looking at his kid and the wife's looking at the bartender and he's and she's like, aren't you going to say anything to the land? And he goes, yes, good job. So there's four people in America that have holes in one of the hits. That don't know they don't have them. That is amazing. That's the kind of story that's in there. That is where is that going to fit in an SIP? Or ESPN piece? Nothing? No, no. I love that, man. That is great. What is the, I guess, most unique course you've ever played, heard of. You want to well, around the world once. And I'd like to tell Kyrie Irving this. I started in Denver and I flew east. They let me go around the world for a month. Remember when journalism had money? Yes. They had so much money. And so I said, well, hell, I'll spend some money I went around the world playing the most unforgettable holes in the world. And I collected them. But when I got back, we'll avoid quit the mulvoy. This is the new guy. So the trend is guy and he didn't want it. So I've been sitting on this. So me and my buddies, we go to the course, hey, he's writing a book about the 18 most unforgiving. Could we play your course? And they're like, yes, yes, so we had free golf for 20 years on this deal. But there's a hole in South Africa where you got to hit over alligators. There's a whole New Mexico that's three miles long and it's 50 feet around. Okay. There's an underwater hole in the Caribbean, but my point to Kyrie Irving is, I flew east and kept playing east and I ended up back in Denver. How did that happen? It's wild. It's not the planet is round. What do you mean in underwater hole? What are you talking about? In the Caribbean, you hit your shot and the balls are weighted and you scuba dived down and then you finish out the hole. That sounds very involved. It's fantastic. Can I tell you one more quick story? I imagine you're not measuring your pot, like you're not sitting there waiting for somebody to figure out whether the putt breaks out. There's no honors, just before the sharks get it in. It went ready. Right. When ready. Here's a true story. Also, I mean, they're all true. This guy, this pilot, air force pilot, 1965, Vietnam gets shot down above north into North Vietnam, goes into the Hanoi Hilton, the worst prison in all of North Vietnam. He's in a 6 foot by 7 foot cell I saw it, dark can't there's no windows. His name was colonel George hall from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He finds a stick. He's in the isolation for four years. Yes. Family thinks he's dead. U.S. Army air force thinks he's dead. He finds a stick and he starts playing golf every morning. Kisses his wife, gets in the car, drives through the streets of Hattiesburg, waves to the guy that runs the used car lot, waves to the grocery lady, pulls in, kids with the shoe shine guy, puts on his spikes, gets to the first tee with his three buddies, swings the stick. Well, he was a pretty good college player. So he paces off, say, 255 yards for his drive. Now he's looking at it. That's not 8 iron, 135 yards, hits the 8 iron, paces that off. Now he's got a 25 foot putt, played like that every day, shot even par when home way that everybody in town in his mind. For four years, he did this every single day, always at his club. He was finally released a 102 pounds. He left at a 180. Jeez, he comes to the podium at Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and the whole town's waiting for him, right? And he's about to give this speech that he's been thinking about, but suddenly he sees the grocery store lady. And he sees the used car guy, and he sees the shoe shine guy, and he sees his buddy and he starts crying. And he finally gets out, you people. This game saved my life because I was able to leave the cell. And I had so many people I knew in prison who died just went mad. And so that's what I mean about this book. Golf, because I was pretty much raised by my brother. 'cause I didn't really have a dad and my mom was sickly. Golf really raised me and it became my family, and so that's why this book is sort of my Valentine to that family of golf, which I know it's not for everybody, but I believe me. It really was woven through the fabric of my life. So help me go off while we love the game, Rick Riley here, a few more minutes left with the author writer right here on the Richard's judge, a beautiful story. I got to be honest with you, Matt. So what's your game like now? What do you got now? 6.7? Damn. I'm Catholic, but I've been going into even synagogues and telling rabbis that I shot a 63 at Bel Air, greatest day of my life. Every putt went in the hole. I made 9 birdies. The whole looked like an open manhole in New York City. I couldn't miss. And then the next day I had 82. And that's coffee. And let's go. That is graph. You play with Al? Play a lot. Every time I ask story? Al Michael stories are always welcome here. Hillcrest country club, 16th hole, me and Allen and another guy. And, you know, Al's not good. Sounds like this. He plays every day and he's not gonna be like, ow, how about we mix in a lesson this week? No, no, I got it. I got it. And he's so fun to play with. Of course. But he's terrible. I mean, come on. And we all love him. But he can't play dead. He's gonna play dead in the cowboy movie. He's terrible. So anyway, 64,.

"The game is the name of the new book just in time for Father's Day. You mentioned about giving it to your dad. That's right around the corner. You have the floor. These are 80s stories. So I should hate golf. My dad was a drunk golfer. Came home, violent, broke my mom's nose. We would all hide. We thought golf caused the hell in our lives. But then when I was 11, my brother took me to the range, and it was so much fun, and there was nobody drinking. And guys, dads were there, and they weren't drunk. And I had this probably unhealthy love of the game after that. And so for 40 years, I've been collecting stories that I think you're going to love about golf and the people, some are emotional, but a lot are just really great. For instance. In Ireland, there's a blind par three. Now, people in America never heard of this, but you can't see the green. You hit it over the hill and hope there's a green there. And in 1997, four people, all Americans made holes in one on this par three. They couldn't even see the flag. What's the difference? It was 162. Okay. So it was the greatest statistical anomaly in the history of golf. Maybe in sports itself. That night in little hinge bar, it's fantastic. And the bartenders just making Guinness has left right because in golf, you have to buy each other a drink. Everybody in the bar gets a free drink. And he's making and there's caddies in there that shouldn't be in there and the townspeople are in there. And it's just madness. And the waitress is making her whole rent in a single month. And everything's fantastic and tell the bartender's wife comes through the front door, holding the ear of their 6 year old son. And she drags him behind the bar. And she says, you tell your dad what you were doing this fine day, a little rascal. And he goes, oh, I was putting balls in the hole. He was buddy. He was hiding behind a tree, and a ball would come over and he'd run out and put it in the hole. Back behind the tree. Just so he could see 60 year old white guys going crazy and ripping off their shirts like.

"And I think it's sad. But it's still going to change golf, though. I mean, this is not going to work. We're not going to have best versus best very often anymore. The president's cup is dead as far as I can tell. The writer couple the PGA of America's side with the PGA Tour because you got to remember the tour doesn't control a single major. They don't have any majors. All they have is the president's cup and the players and a lot of Buick opens, which are what you're fine. They build your golf legacy. But they're in real trouble here because they don't control the biggest events. It seems to me, Rick Riley, similar to the NIL in college, football, where it occurred, and it sort of came out of nowhere. Nobody had a plan for when it was hitting. It's now left the station and people are still trying to catch up to it. And there's no answer for it. What do you think the answer is? The answer is the tour. I guess it's got to stop giving money to charity. And start having 48 player tournaments, no cut, stop worrying about the 125th guy and worry about the first guy keeping them. And take care of the cat. He's given they don't even have insurance, put them in a single hotel, so they're not staying in these terrible places they stay. And try to keep some of these stars from going because we're here in more and more. If they offer Patrick Reed $50 million. That's insane. I mean, there's no competing with that. Patrick table for one read who nobody likes. It just got $15 million. I mean, you know, I started this with saying I was a Phil guy not a Tiger guy. I guess I'm a Tiger guy now. I hear he's offered over 500 million and he didn't go. And you could say, well, yeah, his leg doesn't work. Again, he could shoot phone numbers. 9 7 two 6 and still make the money because it's not about the golf. I mean just sad. It's not about the golf at all. Because we were curious, right? We were streaming it. I watched the first two days. I just wanted to see what it looked like. And it wasn't compelling at all. There was nothing compelling about it. No, it's just vapid. It's nothing. I was curious to see what a shotgun start and professional if you will golf looked like. I had no idea what the logos for the teams meant at all. I mean, I didn't have no idea. If Trump Junior driving the drink cart, what do we got here? Can you buy me a drink card? Did you buy mode? Pimento cheese sandwiches and they had music. The fyre fest. And master's vest on. You see that? Any blacked it out. What was he thinking about that? And by the way, him stepping to the T with the images was real. They played money. That wasn't fake? No. That wasn't fake. The walk up. We thought that might have been fake. I thought somebody might have edited it, but no, it really happened. So here's my pitch for the book. Yes, sorry. Give it to your dad, and let him be happy because the fill book is really well researched. And really depressing. If you liked Phil, you're going to be really depressed with this book. But the gambling and the way treats, according to Alan ship nugget, he treats certain people, I always thought he was a great guy, but this is just.

"Audience. So help me golf is his new book. Why we love the game, The New York Times bestselling author here on the program. Let's jump right into it then, because what you just said about Phil needs to be explored a little bit more here. Well, if we can display what it is, the Saudis Saudi Arabia started a rival golf league and their paying stupid money. They're paying ridiculous money. They gave him 200 million just to play. He can shoot radio stations the rest of his life, one O three is one O 7. Yes. And never and still get the 200. There's no cuts. He's only going to be 48 guys about half of those are guys you never heard of. They play a three day deal, it's a shotgun. It's essentially the Walla Walla member guest. But they've gotten some good players. And these guys, and it's hilarious to hear them say, you know, hey, when we ask them, hey, you know, you're taken from a bloody monarchy. These people provided 15 of the 19 9 11 terrorists. They jailed dissenters. They kill gay people. They oppress women. What are you doing? And they never go, I'm doing it for the money. What they say is, like, Phil goes, oh, you know, I know, I know they've been bad. I know they've made some mistakes. But good golf can do a lot of good. Really? Well, that's a despotism. Well, Phil, the original quote that he said to Alan ship knock. Was the most honest statement that's been uttered by him. He didn't realize he was on the record. There's two fills. You talk to Phil and it's a lot of MFs and FU's and then you go wait Phil, this is on the record. I need something. And then he cleans it up for all his 20 sponsors. But he said, they're bad MFs. They kill gay people. And they killed Khashoggi, The Washington Post columnist. So yeah, so he's like, no, but I know what good golf can do. Yeah, that's like when Kim Jong il shot that 34 and everybody stops starving in North Korea. No, they didn't. That never happened. Golf is not going to fix a bloody monarchy, and that's who you're getting your checks from. So I hope it doesn't stain the white leather seats on your new jet. I'm just disgusted with him and Dustin and dechambeau and Taylor gooch and Kevin. They say a war not politicians. Are you human beings? 'cause these people are a terrible monarchy. What if somebody came you and offered you the money? Give me a $1 billion I wouldn't do it. It's easy to say. Right. What would you do? Well, I'd have to think about it. And I've got a real sense of the world. I would have to think about it. Sleep couldn't sleep couldn't look at myself in the mirror. It would destroy anything I've tried to build. They're talking about kicking Phil and probably Dustin Johnson. Well, Phil's already in the Hall of Fame. I mean, they kick him out of the Hall of Fame for this. People want this. I'm kind of wondering, I got to think about that. Today, the USGA guy, when someone asked him, now we're playing and live change how you a person, their chances of qualifying or perhaps the qualifying rules for the U.S. open, which starts Thursday and bought in Brookline. And the guy said yes. So if the majors start going, you're out if the masters says you can't come. I can't imagine this happening. But then they've got real problems. Well, I mean, Rick Riley here on the rich eisen show. Again, we had Alan chip nuc on the other day. And he said that the royal and ancient and the green jackets down in Augusto want no part of this fight that they want to have. They have one tournament a year. They want the best players. They want those passwords to come. And they will have nothing to do with this. Probably just continue on as scripted. It's probably true. There's 5 masters champions. Playing this thing. Right. There's 9 majors champions. The PGA gives out a lifetime exemption. The master's lifetime. U.S. open ten, ten years. I think you're going to say, hey, sorry, DJ and dechambeau. You won, but you're not allowed here anymore. I've already made the agreement. So I think the PGA Tour is in a world of trouble here. Well, and that is the case. And because even though I said I would have to think about it, I would eventually side with you on the issue, Rick Riley, but I'm admitting the amount of money if somebody came to me and said, I could go ahead and make more money right now on the spot, then you would make ever in the rest of your life doing what you're doing for the employer you currently have. I would sit there and think about it. Then I would think about what am I going to tell my children? What I'm going to tell myself, where am I going to be doing my business and I'd stay put. Right. Would be rich eisen. ESPN sportscaster, practically invented sports center, became a great podcaster, NFL, but switched to the Arabs and was a pariah, which is what you would be. Correct. And so I would not do that. What I'm saying to you, though, is that there's enough players that I think would think hard about it. And then go and join the live tour. Dude, I don't think Dustin Johnson even knows where Saudi Arabia is. He's so dense. Then that's ridiculous. Then I don't think he does. He's so dense light bends around him. That's how dense the man is. So I don't have a Phil knows. Bill's on record saying they're terrible people in bloody. Oh, but the PGA Tour is way worse. That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. Well, not dumber than Greg Norman, who is who you, by the way, quoted earlier in this conversation. He's the one that made it sound like, well, things got done and we're turning the page. Everyone deserves a second chance. You're right. He used all of the sports cliches that's normally done for somebody who was driving drunk. You know what I'm saying? Like who had that sort of transgression for their career or did something said something that was inappropriate, not what we're talking about here. He was just, you know, they've done some things and people deserve a second chance and it's just like, hey bro and then him well gray is always had problems with golf. He got screwed by bob toy out of the bunker and Larry mize are the most impossible chip. I've still ever seen in my life and know to be gay and all these people knocked it in. And so he's just been bitter. He's always been bitter. He came from a dad who didn't think he should ever have been a golf pro. He didn't like the way they treated him. He's very right wing, although this has nothing to do with right-wing politics. But he's not going to care. That he's taking checks from people that take dissenters and disappear them..

Off the field just how you know how to handle adversity, which a family, your girlfriend, you know, spending money all those different types of things. Really, he was helping you on that sort of front life front. I was quick to ask questions. Well, really? Okay. And so you asked him questions about all that and he and he gave like, what's the best piece of advice he gave you? The best piece of advice I would say he gave me and delivery of feet are. And just take every day where it is. Don't think in the past, don't think your future live where you feed our when you everything that you do AC in your way. Just trying to do it to your best ability, whether it's in this building or out of the building. So that's something that kind of sticks with me and I use that every day. Kyle Pitts here on the rich eisen show. What was your biggest adjustment last year? Now you look back, you know, you know what a rookie season felt like was like, what looking back was your biggest adjustment from Florida to Atlanta? I would say the I'm sorry. The mental part of it. Just being able to know that there are people, there are other athletes that you're playing against that may be slower, but smarter. So you have to it's not all about just raw talent. You have to be smart with the game. You got to know what he has with his leverage. It seems like that. So mentally just, you know, trying to be faster because I feel like the game is 90% mental. So to be able to beat him first, you know, mentally and know what he's going to do. That can help me on a 10% side with my matchup and do whatever obviously he's doing. So how do you think you'll be better at that this year? Is that the thing that you think you can improve upon the most in year two for you? I would say that that's definitely a staple in growth that I've been trying to get better at just being able to see things quicker and react quicker so that I can wear my match faster. Kyle Pitts here on the rich eisen show. I had you in fantasy last year, Kyle. I had you in fantasy last year. And I really enjoyed having you on my team. I need you in the end zone more this year. Is that wrong for me to say something like that to you? So directly. This year. That's what you just, that's just what you're saying. You're not saying God, of course, control that. In that order. You like it. So coach Smith and getting you in the end zone. How are we going to scheme you into the end zone a little bit more this year? I don't have that answer for you. I just would ever play this card. I got around chain when I met you. Okay, very good. And so coming up this year, what are your goals? Have you written them down specifically? Are you one of those? Okay. Letting them out. Where are they written down? Where you got to in my bathroom? In your bathroom. Okay. On a mirror, is that you've got to talk to a mirror. So you see them every day. Yes. Really? Is this the first time you've done that? Or you've done that your whole life? I started in Florida, but I would do it in my locker because it was a little different. I was suing her a little more. Sure. But I would say now the NFL I just, you know, when I wake up, that's something I see. Every day, and it motivates you and it gets, how does that work? What does it do for your small reminder of, you know, this is what you're trying to achieve. So you got to do it a certain thing to be able to achieve it. So that's the time to look at it. Okay. Kyle Pitts, you go on with yourself and say hi to your coach, Arthur Smith for me. And tell her and tell him that I wasn't having an agenda with you. I just wanted to check in with you and see how you're doing. Okay. And I wasn't, you know, gotcha, because he thinks I'm trying the gotcha stuff. And I'm not going to, I'm not that guy. I guess he got that in my head. So do me that favor and pass that along to him. Will you please? And I appreciate you. Uh oh. Be careful. Your head on a swivel in that locker room connell, okay? You'd be well. Okay. Yes, sir. Have a good have a good rest of your summer. Let's talk during training camp if not beyond. All right, sounds good. Okay, that's Kyle Pitts everybody of the Atlanta Falcons. What's going on in that line? That's a lot going on in that locker room. That's scary. It's like those guys hadn't seen each other in the wild, you know, they're happy. Did you hear a 12 letter? I thought that's what I heard. I was winning time in there, huh? Yeah. Boys will be boys. Okay, let's take a break. We'll bring out Rick Riley, who's here on the rich eisen show. We've got this book right here. It's called so help me golf. Why we love the game. Rick Riley, whose work I've admired for quite some time. He's got a new book out called so help me golf. Why? We love the game. The New York Times bestselling author is here. He's going to join us in studio in about 20 minutes time. So much to discuss in the world of golf, which is coming apart at the seams as everyone convenes in Boston, Massachusetts for the or pardon me, Brookline, Massachusetts, for the United States open this week. But joining us here on the Mercedes Benz vans phone line is only one of two gentlemen in the history of the National Football League at the tight end position to come out of the gate and his rookie season with a 1000 yard receiving campaign he is on the Mercedes Benz Vance phone line back here on the program. I think did we speak to him before the draft last year? I think that's what we did. From the Atlanta Falcons, Kyle Pitts, how you doing, Kyle? I'm not good how you doing? I'm doing fine. Where have we found you? Where have we found you? Where are you exactly right now? Where you are? I just got out of practice. It sounds like so did your teammates. It sounds like school's out right now, actually. Uh oh. I guess we should be continue to talk because we don't want to actually hear what's going on behind you. So walk me through what is a mandatory mini camp practice look like in year two for you. Like how it's going? Yeah. Like we walk me through like what'd you do today, for instance? Came out, we went over some situational things. Okay. I'll show you in game situations just fine tune in a smaller detail so that we don't have mental mistakes. And then we went over some other rare sound things and that was pretty much it. Okay, very good. And Arthur Smith year two. How are things already maybe a little bit different than year one? Kyle. I would say he's coaching me the same. Okay. So that part's not changing. Still coaching me hard and they're bringing the best out of me. Obviously, I appreciate that. But just taking a different more mature step and I feel like he's trying to help me along the way. So I appreciate it. Okay, when he coached, when you say he coaches you hard, can you give me an example of that? I feel like holds you to a high standard. And every detail matters, every snap matter, so just trying to get me to trying to help me be the best player I can be. So again, for an example after every snap, he'll come up to you and critique something that you've done, like what would that possibly be? For you. That could be a slight example. One example, or just maybe put me aside after practice and he'll say something or just maybe watch someone film you say watch this and maybe look at it this way and I'm going to okay. And that would just be some I'll go back and watch cheaper, whatever he trying to tell me to fix. You know, I make sure I fix don't make that mistake again. Okay. And then when he walks away, you mumble under your breath, something that you don't want to be here. Is that how it works as well? No? No. All right, just I'll be honest with you. That's the way I feel whenever I interview him. He accuses me Kyle. He accuses me of having an agenda when I speak to him. Always. He does. I have no comment. Are you saying it sounds familiar? Is that what you're saying? I don't want to get in trouble. No, I'm not going to. Okay. So Marcus Mariota is now atop the flow chart there. Clearly he and Matt Ryan have completely different games. What is your adjustment level and heat of yours on that front? Kyle Pitts. I would say adjustment just maybe that I would say is a major adjustment, but obviously like you said, two different plan styles. So Marcus is who he is and that's who he is. So I appreciate Matt for the my first year in helping introduce me to the NFL and start my NFL career up like that. And then Marcus is, you know, we're building a buyer along with the rest of the office. So how did Matt Ryan get help you get acclimated last year, Kyle? On the field, just, you know, different ways to try.

I remember two of the rich guys in show is on the air excited to talk to Doris Burke in about 20 minutes time. She's going to join us from Boston, Massachusetts side of the NBA Finals game number 6 tomorrow night she's calling it on ESPN radio. You know what I'd like to do? I'd like to have maybe we can ask this if Rick Riley, he's a man of arts and letters and such to use a phrase from the great movie unforgiven. He's got a new book out here so help me golf. Why? And maybe a 30 for 30 is necessary on this. Why does the National Basketball Association's last round of the playoffs called the finals? And the NHL's last round of its playoffs is called the Stanley Cup final. No S you leave that off for savings. French Canadians don't use this. Is that it? Let's do that hockey. Is that what it is? I think so. So it's a Canadian thing? I mean, think about some like I know some French can easily in a lot of time, they won't put an S at the end of a word that we would put. Right, because that's their second language. So are you saying that the Stanley Cup is called Stanley Cup final because they're using English as a second language? I'm not saying I'm phenomenal. I'm just the real reason throwing it out there is maybe that could be the reason. You're blaming it on the French just basically. I wouldn't say that. Is that not a question you have the answer to then? That's correct. I don't have the answer to it. And I'm asking. I'm asking. Could it possibly be? It's one of the commonly asked questions on Google. Why is it called final not finals? Yeah. And it's a shrug emoji. Google even said try and.

Patriots Beat

"Is in the huddle, it's so tough to kind of know what kind of defensive person now you're going to use, because he can be a running back. He can be a slot receiver. He can be on the outside. Like if he's in there with the fallback, you know, normally running back fullback, all right, we're going to take our slot corner off the field. We're going to put an extra linebacker. They're going big. Well, now you can't necessarily do that because all right, you put the sock corner rain well now he's the running back with the full back lead blocker and you're short in the box or you take the slot corner off and now you have a slot receiver out there and the full backs will loan in the backfield and you have an extra linebacker out there who has to go out and cover Patterson in space. So that's what makes this team so hard to defend NY Patterson so valuable. And since I'm going on a tangent anyway, this is what the Patriots should have been doing with Johnny Smith this whole time. He should be the utility player. But maybe they sought this week studying the falcons and we see it coming out of the mini bi week here. Yeah. And just really quickly, Kyle Pitts, I think Belichick really put this out there. This is not Travis Kelce or Darren Waller, right? This is not a jumbo wide receiver in a tight end number. He can block, you know, he can block. Oh, Waller can block. Well, it's okay. But he can block. I'm not saying George kittle or Rob Gronkowski, but he can block. So it's called him across between Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez. Yeah, it was a lot of praise. There was a lot of praise. I don't think this is, look, the Patriots have been great in zone coverage over the last couple of weeks. That's been the basis of a lot of these game plans that they've thrown out there. I do think that there is an element that you kind of go with what works on Thursday Night Football. You don't want to reinvent the wheel. But based off the numbers based off of some of the things that I've seen on tape, when you go up against a veteran quarterback like Matt Ryan, it's a lot harder to play zone. You know, because these veterans like that was always a thing with Brady, right? You can't play zone against Brady because he's just gonna sit there and pick you apart. Ryan doesn't have the weapons necessarily, that's scare you, but I really do feel like this is a have some sort of game plan wrinkle, whether it's jams, whether it's doubles, whether it's brackets or whatever you want to do against Kyle Pitts to take him out of the game. But I don't think that you can sit back in zone coverage. Ryan's numbers in zone are very, very good. Unless you really feel like you're front, which maybe you do, but unless you really feel like your friend's gonna dominate up front and just be in Ryan's lap all day long. It's a tough game to just sit back and cover to or cover three because Ryan's gonna know how to beat that. Yeah, yeah. But it's tricky because they've been their best in zone and this is where, you know, being are you a true game plan team?.

"I got. I got an interesting stats. Give on her that we can talk about but jacob. What do you think happens when montgomery comes back. I mean it's definitely be involved. But i don't know how her own continued to be involved in some fast. I don't know whether row will be because when montgomery has been healthy. Played almost all situations But we did see even blames back. We saw herbert still dominate the snaps. plan downplaying. The two minute often some So that's encouraging the arrest. There's no real answer. I think it will hurt. Montgomery you deal. Yeah i mean. I think he still someone. You view a top twenty four any back But i don't have in the top fifteen range anymore chris. The one question. I do have about herbert's usage this week. And it's sort of on answerable was how much of that was dame will coming back from coveted. He was symptomatic. And we know one of the symptoms of one of the longer term Symptoms is your shortness of breath. So was damian williams up to playing a bigger role. He only played ten snaps in this one That's the question moving forward. But i do think khalil. Herbert has some runway to continue to prove himself. It's just manage a tough tough slate of games before the by. They've got forty niners this week. And then the steelers in week nine and then they have the by and then david montgomery expected back by all accounts and they have baltimore. So it's just had tampa bay in tampa bay. They had green eight before that green bay solid. I mean see. herbert looks. awesome the baltimore matchup. I guess. I wanna see what because like pittsburgh's not elite against the run. Who was a couple of weeks ago that got them. He was the first one to score against them to sunday nights ago. I can't even remember him sir. But like they've give they give it four point five yards per carry two running backs. They just hadn't given up any touchdowns. Oh it was. Alex collins and collins had one hundred yards and a touchdown and so i don't know that he can't beat that matchup. What i thought was really interesting is pro and i just i. I went back and watched like forty of his carries this morning for khalil. Herbert pro football reference has with one broken tackle this year on fifty eight carries. I believe but three point nine yards before contact per attempt which would be second among running backs only chase. Edmunds has more yards before contact per attempt. Meanwhile david montgomery. According to pro football reference already has seven broken tackles and one point nine yards per yards before contact per attempt. So so that is double the yards before contact per attempt for herbert montgomery. But i mean. I will look back and i counted more than one mistake tackle. So it's really just a matter of what they actually consider a must tackle a missed tackle. Matt nagy said about khalil. Herbert he said you cannot arm. Tackle him we've seen that so he's tough. He's tough to bring down. I think..

If they're really going to go to trae lance then. I think that's going to be a problem for him. Okay anyway. he's a star player. Is michael pittman a star player four catches for one hundred and five yards and a touchdown on only four targets. He was started in sixty percent of leagues. Is michael pittman. A must start. He was having a pretty nothing. Game until that touchdown at the end right i guess he had three catches for like seventy arts before that. Yeah i don't know this again. It's it was a game where the weather was terrible. They couldn't really throw the ball. That effectively had four targets on twenty six pass attempts but that a result of the weather he he you know with. Ty houghton last week has target share way down so i think that's a concern but i don't know i don't think he's a must star wide receiver but i think he's in the twenty five to thirty range moving. It'd be hard to sit him into three receiver league. Put it that way. And then moet comes. Twenty eight percent rostered. Mohali cox another touchdown for him so his last four games. He has forty two yards and two touchdowns at miami fifty yards of baltimore. A twenty eight yard touchdown catch against houston. A twenty five yard touchdown catch at san francisco. He's finding the endzone. Only one of his touchdowns has been from inside ten yards. But it's five four three three targets from o. alley cox. It's just not the type of player that we typically buy into and he's twenty eight percent roster for reza he's a streaming touchdown or bus tight end. There's like seven guys who have similar roles who are in similar offenses like. I'm also not buying one hundred henry. I don't know if that makes me kind of an outline on this podcast. I feel like a does. But no i think hunter henry mostly a streaming touchdown bus tight end at this point to all right and that's pretty much going to do it for sunday night. "And mitchell both had eighteen carries for one hundred and seventy one hundred and seven yards and one touchdown. That's pretty amazing. How much you buy an ally. Mitchell rb to moving forward. He's the starting running back in a in a kyle shanahan offense and they've basically shown no interest in using anyone else. Really trae sermon. I think played to snaps in week. Six to michael hasty got three carries today sermon. I don't even know if he got on the field. I think that a situation where logical mitchell is. As long as he's healthy he's going to be the lead back in that should mean fairly efficient production and a decent chance of scoring a touchdown. I don't think he'll be an rb one at any point moving forward. I mean he'll have rb one weeks but he's not really involved in the passing game. So he's going to be a little touchdown dependent. But like i i would rather have larger mitchell than damian harris. Moving forward yeah. they're right. There are similar in that hersh. I agree i think mitchell's in a better running game. Yeah and i'm just you know. He's a forty niners running back and they always get hurt. So i know it doesn't so then they also have type. He's a forty niners running back in that he's really fast and pretty small and so you know if he gets twenty carries a game you you have to think at some point. He's going to break down. That's been the way it worked for pretty much. Everybody who's been in that situation. But jeff wilson's not coming back for i would think at least a month So allies mitchell's got some runway. Here okay and then as far as deebo samuel goes. I think we gotta just if anyone is still doubting him stop it. You had another hundred yard game. He's eight or more targets in every game and he's had a pretty easy schedule if you look at it. His four big games. They've been against detroit philadelphia seattle and the colts. Philadelphia's actually been good against wide receivers. But he's done well against pretty easy competition so there is that but he still has a super hard schedule going forward but i think the only thing that could slow him down as trae lance. Do you agree with that. Yeah i think that's probably true. I mean i guess if brandon. I you ever start playing better but i don't necessarily know if that's something. We can rely on at this point because he is playing a decent role. I think it's seventy two percent of the snaps or seventy two percent of the pass routes over the last four games. So it's not like i used to not out on the field. No i think samuel probably has to be viewed as a eight top six wide receiver. Moving forward to target rate has been. Oh man that is so high. i know. but he's got a kid as you're coming into the middle has been out. I look fifteen. Yeah top eight. I can't you can't name eight wide receivers you'd rather have in deebo samuel especially with a quarterback change potentially looming. Try it. okay. So i think we can do this right. So there's the whole list of wide receivers have been better than him. Get cooper cup. Yup yep.

Who Will Pick Kyle Pitts in Thursday's NFL Draft?
"All right. Let's have fun here with. Kyle pits blank will select kyle pits right. I think it's the falcons. I mean friscos. Been talking about this for some time. He doesn't think that the falcons are gonna take a quarterback he thinks arthur blank is all in on on matt ryan for another year to have a new coach and the new general manager. And here's the thing like if you trade down four. And i suspect it'll be teams interested in trading up to four to get whether it's trae lance macaroni justin fields. If you're the falcons if you move down if you move down you're not getting cockpits. That's just the end the conversation because either the bengals. The dolphins entertainment five or six and presumably. You're not trading with those teams already have quarterbacks. So that's the math you're doing and if you're not getting likely to march as we saw a report on monday for peter king that maybe julio jones could be moved with which seems crazy what they need a cap space Could you turn down for. Cornerback if the falcons you could but again what gives you more value in terms of making that football team better. I think it's how pet. So if i'm the falcons and i'm not taking justin feels matteo's trae lands i'm sampling. Taking cup pits. Janssen the blank blank. We'll take pets. I think it's it's atlanta. But i also be surprised if the team traded up with the falcons maybe even take pits like ryan saying you know the train up to the quarterback but you know teams fall in love your dallas. You know thousand the four but you know if a team really loves him that much and it's hard not to love that much than you could see. Maybe a team being overly aggressive. I think it was on On the nfl network this morning on good morning football there was a segment that they do with the giants traded up. You know. I don't know who is doing the job. Esau just a screen grab of it on twitter but the giants gave their first or second ebony ingram and something else to move up to four to get pits and it was you know something that on paper make some sense but you know. Obviously something is not likely to happen but still i would say it's four is where he goes. But the falcons do make some sense especially they decided we want from me jonesing. Another playmaker
