"Side and join us. Welcome back to NASCAR. America motor mounts and the Kyle Petty charity ride got started this past weekend. They are taking the green flag at Phoenix raceway side of the NASCAR championship race on NBC. So Kyle Petty cherry ride underway, once again, a full fledged effort this year after a pause for the pandemic the last two years, they're back in full effect this year, great to see it. And we are back here, NASCAR American motor mouse back here with Jeff Burton, Steve LUT and your phone calls. We're going to get started with William on the line. William, welcome to NASCAR America motormouth. Hey, Nate, thank you. So Steve and Jeff, my question for you guys is, do you guys honestly think we're going to see a type of Kyle Larson view to like we saw with this championship year last year? So Kyle Larson still is remarkable talent, but last year is going to be hard to duplicate. I mean, it was an amazing run, I mean, both in the NASCAR world, out of the NASCAR world, the NASCAR wins, the championship. Kyle Larson's going to have an amazing career. And I think it's unfair if we're going to continue to judge him off as initial championship year that is like one for the record books. Do I think he's going to go on and win a handful of races and be around in the later stages of the playoffs? I believe he will be. But I think it's unfair to expect him to try to duplicate what he did last year. I think he's going to get better all year long. I think he's a serious threat for the championship. I still think he's the best driver on the racetrack right now, driving for the best organization and the best manufacturer at the moment. So I think you'll be a threat. And the second part of your question, no, there is not truth in the rumor that Rick Allen has training wheels on his bike out of the car Betty charity. We all did ask that answer. Yeah, I think he did. We all went there on the answer to that question. Going back to the Kyle Larson part though, he spun, you were talking about earlier, Steven. I mean, he spun by himself at Dover, which speaks to, again, the level of the degree of difficulty of this next gen car. And is that can we kind of pin it on that? Is it just that he is struggling with figuring this thing out as much as anybody else as much as you seem more than just a mere mortal last year when he won the championship? Oh, I wouldn't put it a struggle, so this is why you should cheer for Kyle Larson. Because he's not going to ride around and take 8th or 9th or tenth is okay that he's willing to would you say he's willing to fail. He's willing to get close enough to the edge that he's okay. He's not probably happy about it. But he's okay to show the world that he's human. They wrapped. He got a little too aggressive. He got in the gas or something happened, the car got too loose and he spun out and I think that's what makes him who he is. Like I think that why he could jump at a dirt late model and he's okay if he gets beat by the trap champ. Yep, you're better me today. And that humble approach. I think that, you know, you got to go back and fill it the full scope of Kyle Larson. Everything he's been through. And I think his talent behind the wheel has matured. He has matured his comfort level as the organization. We all know Rick Kendrick very well as a mentor to just to put him in a position that it's okay. You don't have to be perfect. You can make mistakes and if you just give us your best that's going to be good enough and unfortunately for most, his best is really, really, really good. So I think it's just one more reason that someone could cheer for Kyle Larson. The guy spun out on his own and yeah, you know, was okay with it. Yeah. All right, let's go back to the lines. Chandler joining us. Chandler, welcome to NASCAR America motor mounts. Hey, guys. Now, I know this is a little bit early. I wasn't going to ask you guys this on Wednesday, but I'm really curious, we got a lot of good pain schemes, you know, for this weekend at Darlington and looking at all three series, the cub extending the truck, what is your guys that you're paying scheme? I mean, throwback payments came from those three different series. I'll be honest, I haven't seen a whole lot come out. I always love that we get to see them all. When we go down there, I saw Fox is going to put three different holler in favors in the booth. So we get to hear Richard and I can't wait to hit the king on a TV broadcast and $1 million Bill, and he bought a little bonus. This is going to be a lot to tune in for this weekend, but I think that Darlington has done a great job of giving this race that identity of this throwback to allow the teams and sponsors perhaps the one that don't get enough credit Jeff. When the sponsors get behind it, they really get great. Yeah, it's a great weekend. It's fun. You go down there and you see a lot of people that haven't been to the racetrack in a long time because they come and they see the car that they worked on or whatever it happens to be. Darlington's done a great job. I thought that bragging a little bit. I thought NBC did a great job of building that thing up and running with him and Fox is doing the same thing. I'm like, you I haven't seen them all yet. I like to wait the week of and start building myself up. So I haven't seen them all. Is there one involving you this year? Because there's been one in the past, right? You can throw back far. You can't throw back without final Jeff Bernstein. I'm not like, you know, no, no, you did. Passing aspersions that it's been that long, but you've been honored before on throwback weekend. He's a candidate for the NASCAR Hall of Fame. It's not like I'm casting aspersions on his career here. Oh, speaking of Hall of Fame, Wednesday, right? This decisions are made on Wednesday. So Wednesday show, I'm sure there's going to be some discussion. So many great options is going to be interesting to see who goes in. Good luck. I hope it's the guy set next to us to be great. We will have all the nominees and the inductees Wednesday. We'll learn who is going to be the pioneer winner, the modern award winner, all of that. So lot to come here at NASCAR motor mouse a lot today. We appreciate you joining us. Thanks to Ricky Carmichael, jet Lawrence, Lee debut for joining us as well. Talk to you next time..

"Have some thinking outside the box. All right, Carrie, what do I do here? Do you like Jimmy? Whatever Jimmy would do. Bring it around like Jimmy wood. Come on. Right. Drive better. Get to the race and there's a 48 just painted over the three on the side. Carrie, what are you doing? That looks much better. That's awesome. We got track house racing and underwear. Yeah, well, I mean, they do underwear. They do other clothing as well. Oh, okay. But yeah, so track house will have sponsorship from jockey. And jockey will actually be highlighting their made in America collection on both the number one and number 99 cars and multiple events this season. The new paint scheme got its first showing in Tuesday's Cup Series test session at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Chastain's car. Were they able to work in any of the American flag elements? Yeah, that's the sad part. I really wish they would have kind of hit that a little harder 'cause they really fell flat. We're kidding because the entire car is literally an American flag. So yeah, no, it's really, really cool. And so when you look at it, let me find these schedule here. They didn't have an actual schedule, but Chastain will have the sponsor for four races on his number one car. Suarez will have it for two races on his number 99 car to bring a total of 6 races between the two teams with the jockey sponsorship. Before we get into this weekend, one more tidbit from the past weekend, Bristol ratings were good, right? They were very good best Bristol race as far as ratings and viewership since the spring of 2016. So definitely. Wow, very good. That's a while ago. Yeah, and when you factor in people who are like, well, I mean, it's raining like every year at Bristol since blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and there were nobody in the stands, and that's why they were watching on TV. I say it this way because this is literally what I've been seeing on Facebook and Twitter and everything. And so they all sound that way. In my mind, when people say stupid things, this is how they sound. So, okay. I will say this. Yes, the turnout. We just have half of our listeners. They're like, I hate that guy now. You still keeps going. But so when you look at, sure, the stands were not a 100% full. I would say it's more full than we've seen at Bristol in the spring in a long time. Yeah. Especially when you had the COVID crowds, for sure, you weren't allowed to have full capacity, but before that, it had been suffering, and that's the whole reason they were trying to do anything that would work here. So from a turnout standpoint in the stands, it was pretty decent. From the radio. All that dirt. I would wear a mask anyway. Exactly. From the rating standpoint, you expect, this thing, people aren't really thinking about this. We had two pretty substantial weather delays in this race. And when you get any kind of a weather delay, you usually lose people and you don't get them back. So the fact that we still end up with over 4 million average viewers during this race, the entire race, that's pretty good. Maybe it was because they kind of knew it was only going to be a 20 minute delay as opposed to an hour delay. Well, we had an hour and a half delay in there. True, but they didn't know that. Well, that's true. They didn't know that. And then there was also the intrigue of, well, is this the end of the race? So there was a lot going on there. And but no, I think at the end, I think this is a huge success and they make sense on why Bristol after seeing the ratings come back in. We're like, okay, yeah, we'll do this again. That's all it took. I mean, I would imagine the TV package is a pretty big determining factor. That's where all the money is really coming from at this point. So I think once they saw that, it was a pretty big slam dunk of, yeah, we got to do this again. Next, we're going to hear they're going to put dirt on Sonoma or something. Oh my gosh, could you imagine only like half of it though? That would be cool. The whole thing. I prefer it to be like half and half because you'd have to decide dirt tire regular tire can I hold on to it on a regular tire? I think Texas without boring it's been just put dirt on the dog leg. Oh my God, they get the dog like they just get in the outside wall. Yeah, that would not be interesting. That would be interesting. That would not be good. It would be terrible, but awesome. Yes, I'm not sure how to think about that. Let's get into this weekend. We are looking at. Super speedway. I've been waiting all season for this. Yeah. So the things that we talk about here that we usually hear carry, what are they? Well, we've got terms like wild card, you're going to hit the lottery, crap shoot, restrictor plate, even though it's not anymore, drafting, and look out for the big one, Carrie. Oh, yes. That one too. So huge, you can hardly believe your eyes and team owners can hardly believe the amount of a toll it will take on their pocketbook. Just wipe out the field. Just gone, wipe out the field, wipe out the bank account, it's over, but Talladega was awesome. That's what's all I'm out. That's right. Oh, and this year we've got the next gen car for the first time on Talladega. Super speedway. Blah. Blah, blah. Yes. Well now we've had it at Daytona, but those tracks in my mind and you heard from Kyle Petty are completely different. They're not similar in many ways. They definitely are, especially with a car now. It's a little bit wider tal deg is going to be, it's going to feel like a totally different race track with how wide Talladega is compared to Daytona. How sweeping, how large it is, Daytona feels a little bit more compact, a little bit more constrictive,.

"Let's clump some of these guys together to get things going. Now we've got Alex Bowman, Ryan Blaney and Kyle Larson. Those are mainstays in the top ten. They are and for Blaney, I think he was surprised that he did so well on dirt because he qualified terribly was out to launch all week race shows up. He moves up through the field and at the end of the day, he's top 5, so I think that's better than anything he could have imagined. He got Joey Logano who won the race, the previous year, so not a big surprise at number three. No, but I think even still, I think we're all surprised that he is this decent at dirt. And he had a car that he said wasn't even capable of winning this time around. He didn't think. So I think the fact that he came home third, I think he's pretty happy with that too. A lot of happy people at the end of this race. Yeah, I guess so, yeah. And one angry Harvick. One of the best battles I've seen in a long time. Joking aside about the dirt and Bristol on that stuff, Tyler Reddick, chase Briscoe, just a couple of the best dirt racers out there doing battle at the end of the race here. And I'm looking at the running order. I'm thinking, okay, if they wreck who's number who's number three, yeah. Great. So they do rack and they do take themselves out. Tyler still finished second. Still on the verge of his very first win. I mean, he could taste it. Yeah. I felt bad because, I mean, it was obvious. He had this. This was his win. Briscoe dives it down in there in the final lap in the final turns of the final app. In an effort to try to steal one, pull off a slide job if he could. It didn't work. He slid up the track right into Tyler Redick and spun both of them out. I mean, I felt so bad for Reddick, and I felt like, man, this happens to him so often he's so close, so many times. And something happens, but at the end of the race, I will give them credit. So we got a guy who backed into a win and, you know, we've heard his thoughts on those kind of things. But for Reddick and Briscoe, in the moment, for this happening, if I were Reddick, I would have been throwing fists. Yeah, and it was the happiest crown conversation I've ever seen. Exactly, especially for knowing that the guy who did that to you already has a win and is already in the playoffs. I had been throwing fists. I wouldn't have been able to hold myself back. And I'm usually a pretty calm cool guy, but if you're going for your first cup win, you've got it sealed up like that and that happens. I'd be pretty pissed. So the fact that he was able to hold it together, as well as he did. And actually kind of blamed himself for whatever reason? I mean, my goodness, we all deserve to give Tyler Tyler Reddick a huge hug. And I think Christopher Christopher chase Briscoe should feel pretty thankful that that was the guy that he had the altercation with on the last lap there. So out of nowhere, this hack comes through at number three Kyle Busch backs himself into a win. Out of nowhere had no idea when shocked as everybody else, I think, crossing the stripe. But at the end of the day, it's his 60th career Cup Series win. Let's hear from Kyle. Yeah, I mean, it kind of stems back. I think the last ten laps or so. Hirschman just coming over the radio and telling me, you know, hey, keep in it, stay in it, keep in position, even though the guys behind us, they were falling off of us. And getting further away. But the guys in front of me, they were running hard racing for the win, obviously. And my car would just not re fire after The Rain delays for whatever reason took about 20 laps to get going. But those last few laps, I feel like we kind of maintained with them and at least kept them in our windshield. In case something did happen. And there you have it. The final corner there. Chaos ensued, I guess. And then we were able to make it through and steal a win back into one. So it feels good to get one here in this next gen race car feels good to win on dirt, a lot of caveats. Of course, Kyle's 9th on the all time wins list. He's been there since his last win. Wow. 18 straight seasons now ties the king Richard Petty for most consecutive seasons to win at least one race and then ask our Cup Series with 18. And of course, this is 9th Bristol win, of course this was dirt, so it's a little different. But 9 wins at Bristol, let's get into uncharted territory there. It is, but so like I have in the notes, is there an asterisk because there's dirt? Well, so it is technically two different tracks and it's listed as two different tracks by NASCAR, but if you wanted to lump them into one, you can because when you go back to the history of NASCAR, you also have to remember that these guys that had other wins back in the day had two cracks at Bristol, the regular Bristol each year, and now we're down to just one. If you're going with just a one, so I mean, I can see it. I can see, you know, putting it in there where this counts is the same track if you want to. We had two bouts with rain, red flagging the event and it really messed with my schedule. They really need to consult me on that. But yeah, they really should. Seriously. My goodness. The weather, the schedule, the whole thing. They need to go through us. Yeah, they should call Carrie Murphy first and be like, hey, Carrie. It's okay if we keep going. Should we stop it? Right. Do you need anything from us? Is there anything we can do? I would have called the race. Done, it's over. We're halfway. It's good. Everybody go home. I think fans are happy that you're not in race control. Probably. We would have missed out on that amazing finish. So I do want to give an ask our credit on that, by the way, because it was obvious they had a plan. And they knew that the track prep only would take 20 minutes or so. Once rains and stuff like that stopped and they stuck with it, they didn't immediately hit the button and say, yep, that's it. Sorry guys, bye bye. So I gotta give them credit. They did a really good job making sure they held out, make sure they got as much of this race in as possible, and they ended up getting it all in. And we saw an iconic finish like that. So.

"Carrie. Hey, what's up, Toby? I'm just looking at what's going to be for dinner tonight. And what is that? I don't know. What do you think I should go with? I've got everything at my fingertips here on DoorDash. I'm looking at the app right now. What do I do? What do I pick? I mean, you could literally order anything that you feel like. Anything, even if I want a dog food, I could do that. Well, I mean, your dog might be hungry. So yeah, do that as well as a side. Maybe some kibbles, maybe some bits. Right. Or maybe just kibbles, maybe just bits. Do you separate them out? Maybe should I do that? I've got two dogs. Should I give one the kibbles and one of the bits? Although I've heard, if you use DoorDash and get your own meal, your dog will probably want some of yours. Yeah, most likely. My dogs are always all over it. They want anything that we get that's not dog food. So I'm figuring out maybe I'll go through the whole show and figure out what I'm gonna eat. I don't know. It's one of those things that every day, it's like, what are we gonna do for dinner? What are we gonna do for dinner now? Immediately, I'm like, well, I'm not making anything. I'm not doing anything. "Because i feel like that. I don't want that to come off like an insult but but right you. You've just done a great job reinventing yourself. What about these roles and this chapter of your life and doing tv in these projects. Why does it work for you. Why has all of this panned out well for you. You know. I think for two reasons number one. I have to credit mom. Mom was very inquisitive person. And i say this all the time she just constantly wanted to learn and she constantly wanted us to be learning about myself and my three sisters and like we would go to michigan and early seventies. After they opened the racetrack. We would drive to michigan. An old station wagon. My dad would be at the race track practice in and we will go to the henry ford museum. We spend two days at the henry ford museum just walking around and seeing things and learning things so i think that desire to learn and that desire to ask questions and to try to find out and to move. That needle was instilled with me from my mom. I think the other thing that has helped me is. I'm a fan of the sport. I'm a i've been a fan since i was a little boy man and like i said when we started this just to be back in the garage it just to hear a race car run to smell that gasoline. You know what i mean to the sights. The sounds the fans debt. I mean that's just part of you know. And that's part of what i wanna be around so when i was a little boy in an nf. Said told the story many times. When i would go to sleep. When i was five six seven years old i dreamed about setina racecar hanging onto a steering wheel and beaten richard petty beaten david pearson and beaten buddy baker and kelly. Auburn those gas. I didn't dream about doing commercials for coca cola. I didn't dream about setina at a table and signing autographs. I didn't dream about being interviewed on..

Know maybe doing an episode to a follow up to this one with janet guthrie or to do something you know. That's a follow up to brad keselowski. The one we just did my deal with brad. Marty snider at msa. And i said this is in the middle of the pandemic. When nobody's doing anything nobody is doing anything. And you can't shoot things. And i'm thinking man. This would be neat to me. I'm watching tv. And there's so many car shows and they're great car shows you know there's great card we're going to customize we're going to you know make this car something different. We're going to sell this car. Whatever but the one thing. I never heard was. What's your sentimental car. Why do you love this car. That was the start of what i wanted to do. Was tell me a car that sentimental..

"Ways and changing the sport changing the demographic of the sport right off the bat. I mean you know when danika came along I think we saw a lot more fino's in the audience and we saw a lot more little girls come to the racetrack with their dads and with their parents I think now. We're seeing a lot more hispanics a lot. More latinos come into the race track And that's good for the sport. That's good for joy. Lugano that's good for denny hamlin. That's good for the entire sports. So i think this move only solidifies their place in the sport and they're based to grow what they wanna do One of the things. That is interesting as i've spoken with justin marks. He is a sharp guy. So this kind of doesn't surprise me that he's made a big bold move like this no. It doesn't if you go back. And if we just go back to how they started this team and The the you know they just basically they embedded themselves with richard childress racing Even though it's it's track house racing They are not a partner. They are not they are. They are not a subsidiary of richard childress racing day embedded themselves their team there and they run it the way they want to run it but they use all the same stuff all the same technology everything all the way one hundred percent and nobody had done that. This is a totally different model. Totally different model had never been never been attempted and they have come out of the box. You've got three or four top five or top ten finishes. They've run in the top ten consistently not not getting the finishes. They won't run in the top ten consistently And they're good solid top fifteen team and they're they're vying for that last spot in the playoffs in the very very first year so i think that speaks volumes so for for him to make a move like that And then to back it up with a move like this. You've got to put him on your list of people to watch because he is changing the way the sport does business too And i think you'll see other people follow this road and this model in the future on how they get into the sport. Another huge headline recently is Jeff gordon hanging up headphones in the broadcast booth. And he's going to be the boss over there hendrick motorsports. I mean all kinds. There's a seismic shift here going on in the sport in terms of leadership. Yeah and listen. I think that's a huge positive also and we you know sadly sadly You know with the passing of ricky hendrick Then then the team itself who who's gonna run it who's going to run it some day And we look at rick and his late seventies and you know my dad turns eighty four. Today could his birthday and we look at the owners. We look at roger. Penske we look at joe gibbs. We look at jack rouse. We look at those guys. They're in their late seventies and early eighties. So this sport is is is basically owned run and controlled team wise By a bunch of older gentlemen have put their heart and so in their life into the sport. So who's gonna come along and do it after them. And i think jeff gordon falls into that category of somebody who's put their heart and show in life into this sport And falls right in line with rick upset at me and times before rick hendrick may May have bought the land hendrick motorsports but jeff. Gordon built a house That's for sure he. He established it as the premier place to be and in the long island. So it's only fitting that he's there you talk about. Justin marks We talk about denny hamlin. talking to team We talk about Colleague racing starting a new team. There is an influx of new blood and new ownership And obviously we've had the new drivers coming in for years and years and years. But i think this is the most positive positive things we've seen in the sport in a long time and i think jeff gordon will be What he did as a driver may pale in comparison to what in his vision for what he has for hendrick motorsports and what it wants to do. It's going to be exciting to to check that. Out kyle larson huge massive year. This year we knew he had a talent. You put him in equipment from hendrick motorsports and he is absolutely exploded this year. It's it's been fun to watch. I mean how many races is this gonna win at many as he he won't that's kind of the way it is you know and i hate to say that and it sounds slipping. But here's here's what happens. And i think i think this is human nature and a lot of ways Obviously he's in better equipment and then then where he was going to ask you and i don't. I don't mean that. These guys work any harder i just think he has access to more tools and two more things that make him better driver they can make him a better driver here and we know there's different levels of teams so that goes without saying and that is not a knock against canarsie racing at all that is just a fact of life but i think if we if you look at people just all across the board all across the board if you have something you love if you have something you have a passion for And it's taken away from you. It's taken away from you and you can't do it and you're not allowed to be a part of it or or are you lose something And it's sad and you you you you you long for that you think about that When you're given a second chance and that second biden apple ninety nine percent of the people come back and they're more. They're more dedicated to more focused. They wanna make it work. They had a shot. They lost their shot. They get a second chance. We see it in football with with quarterbacks and players you see it in basketball teams where a guy gets cut moved to a different place And then he excels at the second place and you say well what happened about the first place. He'd never lost it. He thought he was going to have it forever. And a lot of ways i think. That's part of kyle larson. He thought once he got the cop. I'm gonna be here a long time. and then it was taken away now that he has a second chance and it gets focused his dedication his desired win. is a lot more intense than what it was the first time. I think he appreciates the sport more. And that's why. I say he can win as many races as kyle. Larson wants to way as long as that car stays during he can win race. I can understand that for sure..

"Patience to get it done there by the end of the weekend cow just may have his first atlanta win behind him. If you haven't used all your cow picks this is a good time to use the five car. He will most definitely be my lineup. Now a second guy to look at is the eighteen of cow bush. He seems to be the best of the gibbs guys right now and looking back four races kyle has top ten finishes and has wrecked upstage points in all but one stage in all those races kyle has to atlanta wins behind him and with that recent pocono win. The team knows they have what it takes to beat the hendrick camps. So it's a good time to consider kabua's for your lineup. And finally we'll look at the number one car of kurt busch. He's got three wins at atlanta. The second most laps lead among active drivers. He has a fifteen point. Four average finish their. He did right out here in march earlier this year. But you'll have to look back five races before he finishes outside of the top ten and you have to actually look all the way back to two thousand nine before he finishes outside of the top thirteen back in his dodge days with penske. The ganassi organization has found some speed recently. So i would consider the one car for you live this sunday. Well there you have it. That's atlanta motor speedway in a ball of wax. "This is the final land weekly on the final with us once again. Is kyle petty. Welcome back to the program. Be here man. Good to be here okay. So what's the update on your kyle. Petty charity ride. You've had a couple of years off now. Because of covert right. We did not do it again. This year about that so You know with with with the pandemic last year Being may And depending mcclatchy we kind of put it on hold. We were going out in the phoenix area to do some stuff And this year. We were just so uncertain just still uncertain by the time you get the december january february. When you got when you got to pull the trigger on it we were still there was still so much uncertainty about what was going on with the vaccine and what was going on in the world so he pulled the trigger again. We'll probably do something in september october. A small ride here on the east coast but The big ride will return in two thousand twenty two. I promise the big rodwell return. Well that sounds great. Well you've got a lot of other things going on as well A new show called dinner drive with kyle. Petty it's a good thing that your name is kyle petty because it was in the title. That's what i told him. I said what if you want to fire me and get another host. They had to change all the graphics. I said it would have been easier just to leave it. But i listen. I am really excited about this journey. We go back to the pandemic. i'm setting at home. I'm thinking about you know shows and things. I'd like to to be watching or things i'd like to do and i thought you don't want to so many cars shows. I don't wanna do a car show per se. But i wanna use the car to get to the person so We started talking about it now. I was having a conversation with a free and we started talking about sentimental cars cars that we just grew up with. You know sixty eight ford station wagons. You know what. I mean to chrysler imperials and you're thinking you know. These aren't these aren't aren't like classic cars not mainstream cars. But they're sentimental car so The concept is you find somebody you ask them. What their sentimental car is that leads and says well. Let's go to dinner. You know and we jump in the car and we go to a restaurant and then we just have conversation And it's been fascinating. Been fascinating. i. I have i. We shot eight episodes this year I'm really proud of him And listen i say this. And i want to go ahead and preface this before anybody watches it. We're a week away week. Away from from the premier but The thing is i come up with all the questions because these are questions. Cow petty wants to know. But he's questions. You may watch it. And say i didn't need to know that but just remember cow. Patty needed to know that. That's why i asked that question I did dale. Jr. richard petty and mario andretti from the racing world. herschel walker. They love the third And rick flair from from the sports world from other sports and then was fortunate to do Darius rucker and pit bull mondo upper s from From the music industry. And it's such an eclectic group The conversations go everywhere from dell dell juniors concussions And what what that meant to him and his career to what the city of charleston means to to to to darius rucker to You know the passing of ric flair son And i'll wait. Armand going up little havana in miami. So the conversations are good And it's just it's a fun show. And i know i rambled but it's just a fun show you're the guest you're allowed to ramble speaking of guests. Do you find that there. Maybe more comfortable in in that scenario rather than a big sound stage for tv you know what. Here's what i find I think they're more. I think these guys and obviously there's a lot of them. I knew i already knew so. It was just a conversation between friends Just a conversation that we had danced around. Probably but i never really asked. But i think they're more comfortable because It's somebody's sitting across the table from them. That they know you know has has been some of the same situations you know you put yourself out in front of the public and you failed You know it's not all about success. Sometimes everybody just wants to know about the success part of of doing things but there's a lot of failure in that success and You know. I think it was a fascinating. Everybody knows i love music. I love music. You know so talking to darius rucker you know here's a guy that went from pop music to country. It's a totally different genre. You know what kind of what kind kind of intestinal fortitude to take the switch streams and in the middle of a career But at the same time you know. And he's like this here. You're playing out. And i'm like yeah and it's a lot scarier play and play music hitting balls. I can tell you that because it's something you're not comfortable with so I think they're just comfortable just talking about things. Absolutely the show is dinner drive with kyle. Petty it premieres on the circle network thursday july eighth at eight. pm so check that out now. One of your guests is pit bull. He's made news the recently. I mean earth shattering news with track house racing. I mean that's pretty timely. Right i couldn't believe it. I.

"Toby christie founder and editor in chief at toby christie dot com. That's a good thing. Because i mean that's your name kind of be weird if it wasn't me right it's amazing how the that's slid right into place. Yeah if somebody else founded it. that'd be kind of weird right. It's crazy foresight. Don't get how that even worked but you made it work. Yes so we got lots to get to. I mean this is a pack show as always been during the season. It's a pack show during the off season. We need to fill. We do a lot of fill. It feels like we've had more to talk about even than usual here lately. Though it's been really packed shows all of a sudden that's true. I almost feel like we're we're undercutting some of the stories because some of them are just massive. Yeah feels like we should be like turning us into to our show. Now that does. I mean i love doing this show at all but man Two hours would really put me out. I think yeah for those who are listening at home carry. It does all the editing and mixing and getting everything perfect. So when you hear this go into your ear hole in it. Sounds wonderful compared to some other podcasts. Out there it's carry all they work on that so that's why he's kind of like no no no two hours. Yeah yeah it takes a little bit. I mean i gotta be honest. it's. I'm really good at what i do. But at the same time it still takes a bit to put all this together and you know there's different versions there's a radio version and a podcast version and the youtube version. And i mean it's getting to the point where it almost is. Two hours worth of stuff versions versions. everywhere is a version. Yeah they did some road course racing this past weekend i hear yeah. They did and You know it's pretty good but you think of carry. I liked it. i liked it. I mean it's a long track. Yeah so you get a chance to. I mean you. Don't miss much even if you take a nap. I think i missed two laps. Yeah yeah cautions are brutal. Well yes i had forgotten about that. I mean oh my gosh. It's like a half hour. Yeah when you build in to cautions during the day for stage breaks. That's already bad so and this is one of the few tracks. I guess these days on the nascar schedule that has the kitty litter. The you know the gravel that they they have to avoid certain areas. Yeah which you know really makes things troublesome when somebody gets stuck in that you've gotta stop things to get them out. You could argue that. Local cautions could be used especially to four mile track where there's lots of time before cars get to the trouble spot but Nascar does not do the local caution thing. They used to back in the nineties when they had the officials kind of running things of the road courses but they said no no. no no. We'll do this whole nascar style thing and of course everyone bunch backup not good. No let's get the thing. Moving takes too long. Unless you want to load all your commercial breaks into it which they still don't do them. They'll show us caution commercial-free caution flag period and then bacteria out. We'll be right back. It's like why would you do that. Whatever one thing. I noticed is wisconsin's wisconsin. Wisconsin is sonian. 's wiscon- was people from wisconsin. They take their shades seriously there. Yeah they were hoarding. Mesh shade was amazing. I mean when they they couldn't find a forest shea they they made their own shade with a ten by ten canopy things but It must be brutal under the sun. There i guess okay and the official terminology for what you call wisconsin or tonight Wisconsin yeah wisconsinite. You can also badgers cheese heads or scotties heads. Yeah all right. So there's that well thank you for that Piece of useless knowledge pulled up real quick since we had some debate about what they were going to be called. So right.

"I'm sure and i respect the heck out of that guy and and just marks as well all right. So let's you've driven xfinity cars and trucks. You know what the cop cars are. They're going to road america. What as a fan can we expect. What what do we need to look for up there. You know the heavy cars. You know what we're going to be the cool place. Where are they going to be the trouble spots. We're going to be the places that we need to watch for as we watch the cup cars run here for the very first time any carbon. They're actually do have some experience in in that type of car there. So it's honestly something where i think you can expect a lot of side by side racing but the track is very narrow. It's it's something that i think will affect where people wanna go. That's the straits are so long that have guys too wide already or you're gonna go. Are you gonna use the grass. I mean when i raised there and skip barbara series. When i was fifteen we did pass able in the grass there because it was a little bit too narrow so i think there's there's so many things to do there. It's all about the high speed corners as well. Don't make a mistake in the kink if guys make a mistake in the cake that's a big issue but also you're gonna put yourself in a bad position into canada corner there at the end of that straight so. I think it's going to be a great race for the cup cars. I think it's going to be something that people have been looking forward to. I think the crowd is going to really love it. And i mean i can promise you that. I actually don't know what time the race is. I plan on watching myself. Because i assume it's not the same time as ours now. It's right after a full day of racing on. Nbc indycars noon middle high. When that's over. Go back to the fridge. Refresher beverage come right back nascar. In the afternoon i appreciate. I've never been a road. America so i have a page after that bringing down so when i get up in the booth. I sound like the kink on the backstretch. Candida corner the carousel. I'm starting to get some of the all the all the different corners and stuff but we also found a gym a complete gem of tile painting. Now we see why you're kyle petty fan and all about the hair fan right here. Has some hair this athlete. Full of success. I mean i have never seen anything like that before. "Okay. So. IF THEY WANNA. Go National, though which they have done. NASCAR is now a national enterprise. There was a time when North Carolina and Talladega. Places were where NASCAR was, but now. It's not only just in the southeast. Okay, it's other places now. Okay, and only two of the top ten drivers are from the southeast. Okay so if they want to go national. This has pretty much what they have to do. Another driver Kyle Petty has supported this quote a huge moment. This is probably something they have to do, but in the short term, this is something that they're. You're going to have to wade through in terms of their fanbase. And it's a problem to begin with Okay Nascar's growth has not been successful. This, move to go national and kind of change it into an all American brand as opposed to something southern with the confederate flag. A lot of fans are abandoning the sport. The Daytona five hundred. Most recently had approximately seven point three million viewers. Whereas in two thousand fifteen, that number was thirteen point four million. During this time, NASCAR has made efforts to diversify its brand values. It's doing everything right okay. And this obviously this year this has been under the cloud of covid nineteen, which obviously has affected the way crowds or managed and the way to really gauge. What's been going on here? In terms of growth of the sport has been very difficult, and what the reactions to some of these changes has been has been very difficult to gauge because of covid nineteen with that being said yes, the pandemic any pandemic has presented a set of challenges for any organization and a lot of my a. podcast listeners are fellow podcasters. The by youtubers have said this before bloggers, all types of very creative people. And what the pandemic has done is it has created a situation where people's routines disrupted and especially with podcasting for example, people listen while they are commuting, or they might be on their lunch hour. What have you and then those those things in their schedule? Their routine has been disrupted, so it's been a challenge for all of us. But it comes with some perks..

"Sorry about that. He's titan in the car. They all four. On the car in may have felt the vibration wheel been looser something running time. Have that problem? I think before this. Rusty Wallace have been posted back in about eight position as he makes that pitstop goes back onto the racetrack one hundred and seventy two laps or on the board. I tell you the driver would probably need to keep our on. We say this almost every time we come to you. And that will be Bill Elliott. He doesn't ever really force the issue in the early going. I can't think of how many times over the last three or four years. We watched income to this racetrack and just ride along the lead lap. Keep the leaders within a half a straightaway. Then in that final round of pitstops, or whatever all of a sudden Elliott is right up. There navy playing a waiting game here today. Although the white Kyle petty is getting around this racetrack. If nothing changes on that car. Nobody can play a waiting game because he's going to be long Johns across the stripe heading back toward turn one and has right now almost two-thirds straightaway on island Wicky been watching Bill. Elliott's progress all year and a lot of folks say well bills just not have the kind of year he's used to with only one victory in that coming just a short while ago. There are a lot of fellowship. Love loved to have the kind of year that Bill Elliott has going right now. Other than the boy, go back and change of you, the ROY pageant flat power or something like that. We'd being good show. But there's not the new right now. Bill Elliott showing third spot in the points at thirty five hundred forty one to six points ahead of fourth place. Geoff Bodine against the fact that Bill has but one victory. This year is given the connotation of bad season. But they happen consistently all year had a bad year. At all. It's just the fact that most of the fans are so used to Bill Elliott winning you know, almost every other fourth and fifth race. And when you finish second or third or whatever they figure you're having a bad year. But that's not the case for Bill Elliott long with several other drivers in that same category. One hundred seventy six laps on the scoreboard. Kyle petty continues to just eat around this racetrack. And Joe or watching him come through one or two. He doesn't seem to be having any Hanley problems at all. I tell you what he's grown up a little bit too in this respect, we talk about that the other day. You don't see Kyle with that car a place where it doesn't need to be. If he runs. On traffic, and there's plenty of room to get by he'll make the move to the side or inside. But there isn't it doesn't take those chances. Like he wants to talk about a lot of different drivers using erratic lines here today Borgen's keffer, we call attention to ticket real high lines dare Walcott some of the drivers click mild from the very start as head his card nailed white down at the bottom of the racetrack. He's not working back and forth with the steering wheel. When it comes through here. He sips the car. One time just ride so smoothly off turn.

Who's won many many times here at the North Carolina speedway. And as a hit the front straightaway across the start finish line already case freighters now just about a half a straightaway behind so Kyle petty is really setting pace that nobody can keep up with these off turn number two and heading for three Kyle petty moving down the back straightaway. All by himself a good distance of lab traffic. He will be distance between himself after he clears father, Richard watching the battle back for the six position rusty Wallace. Dale Earnhardt, really go. It added about the last four or five laps. They approach the entrance to turn over three right now. And Wallace is going to get that spot away for. Dale Earnhardt and four Dale Earnhardt Chuck into that position behind rusty Wallace. And just ahead of Ricky read. Meanwhile, Mark Martin is still situated back in seventeenth place with twenty four cars on the lead lap at this juncture of the afternoon. One hundred twenty eight laps aboard of four hundred ninety two. If you're just joining us, we've had a total of three caution flags this afternoon, Jim bound and Tom kindle got together on the twenty ninth laugh, Tracy, Leslie, spun on lap, number forty five had Jeff Purvis lost Benton his machine on the seventy fifth lap, and that has been at otherwise clean and green here in the early stages of the AC Delco five hundred quickest lap of the day. So far was the second lap of the afternoon. Ken Schrader at one hundred forty three point nine four three miles an hour. So he leaves the Holly farms lickety-split award at this juncture the afternoon one hundred thirty laps. In tile now has almost a full straightaway over second-place Kenny Schrader is he heads back down to.

He said bit row goes it is tough. Meanwhile, Kyle petty got himself caught up in some race traffic moments ago. What happened three and two tenths second lead. Over second-place Ken Schrader has now down to a second and a half hut. Kyle petty is worked his way free of race traffic now at begins to pull away. One more time close call for Kyle here at Kirk black scared of running directly, I head of and like vampire going down through the car, although sideways as was just making his booth behind that car invasive move down to the inside of the track cleared, the car very obvious now that he has broken free of that lab traffic that he still has the handling capability to get around this racetrack already. He is pulled away even more on tennis raider. Although the traffic factor made a big difference to allow straighter close up some of the daylight between the two now again, Kyle petty with clear sailing directly ahead as he moves over to Joe more Joe he's pulling away already again. He's again. Car separating himself in the second place park petty Schrader mild petty now approaching his father Richard about a half a straightaway. Separating the two before he'll put Richard a lap down. Looking behind Ken Schrader a good distance back to the urban car. Kalicki and Harry Gant also separated by about fifteen or twenty Carling's one of the quicker cars of the race track. Now is Ernie Irvan. Remember he made that unscheduled stop on the pace lap today. Because of the ignition problem worked himself back up the fourth spot at just a lap and a half ago went to the inside of Alan Koichi grant third place away from Koichi now's pulled away from Alan by some eight or nine Carleen, so Kyle petty leads with straighter second Ernie urban now up into the third spot. Meanwhile, back in the garage area Tet musk grave has retired for the afternoon with them as Winston Kelly early afternoon. What problem well motor here today? Pretty. Clinton huger with the cut competition for the rest of this year nineteen ninety one well joint being under. But annoying. No driver. Ted must break out of this afternoon. Just a little over one hundred and twenty five miles in the book here this afternoon. The Tricia rates not been all that high seems like when a car start really dropping the wayside a little past the halfway point. So far only four cars shown out Charlie Baker, Tracy, Leslie, Jeff and Ted must grave heard from there..
