"My father's house burned down, which had all of my records and my like production equipment in it. Your parents separated. Yeah. Oh man. So, so weird. So it's like I kind of symbolically. I feel like my hip hop career ended when all of my gear burnt burnt up and then, like I got onto the improv sketch group everything, no one got hurt. Nobody I hurt my my father and his wife were on their honeymoon in Hawaii, which is kind of sad. Mccain home in the burnt to the ground. Yep. What happened now having it was the cedar fires of San Diego in two thousand three. It was like a big several places burnt, yeah. That's a fucking drag. Yeah, but he's back on his feet or. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. So that was that was a sign from the universe. That's the way I look at it now maybe if I mean stop was not for you. Yeah. And I got into I got definitely further into the improv sketch. So how many thing when you decide to go to USC? It was just sort of like. Yeah. Films on skid. You weren't like film, nerd or going completely tried to I think I wanted to be. Yeah. I wrote an essay on like on space odyssey to get into the school, does your mother write it down. One. I, I'm pretty sure I wrote, but I also think that I copied some major portions from some blog post, I found on the internet. But it worked. I like so matter of fact, about this plagiarize now I can't get it. Well, when I was there, I was studying film, my friend, Dave mccarey, who has directed a lot of the shorts that I've made and was at us analysis. He's no longer there. Yeah. And we made a movie together called Briggs their watch a cool. Yeah. He was not going to USC but was in essence living with me. I was there. You knew him from San Diego. Yeah, we grew up together. Oh, exactly. Even working together. One time was in the hip hop. And he was, yes. It's not called the band, is, you can call it whatever you like group, you can also we were called instruments of intelligence, if you want to refer to us by our real name. "To the show, probably like twice a year. Yeah. But we hang out once a week, you know, obviously, I guess the schedules, maybe famously grueling. And so Sunday's or the only day that I really got to do anything and we usually eat up you live in Brooklyn. Now I live in the west village, like New York, I do I do I really like it a lot. I think. One of the takeaways, I'll have after this experience there in the garage. The new garage. Yeah, the new garage SNL you mean. Yeah. It's, it's, you know, obviously a specific way of living in New York because the job takes up so much of our time. And so much of, you know, my mental. State that, like I don't experience New York in the way that somebody just moved to New York would. Right. And that there are major positives that come with that. And like, you know, lows like I don't know a ton of neighborhoods outside of my own. Right. I don't get to explore but also like I get to like, you know, see, like Paul McCartney at an after party or something like that. You had I mean so it's yeah, yeah, yeah. So there's a the compromises worth it that absolutely. You don't get up to Morningside heights much. That's true. I tell you where we're right. I think I think that's a place. But no, I know what you mean. But that's the same with anymore. I lived in New York for years. But eventually, you know, you've got your four blocks, you've got the stores, you go to, and then you've got the things you do. And it's you know, I never went above fourteenth street, rarely things we know the people, you know, relatively the neighbors store. Yes. Yeah. Say laundry, I the bartenders. Yeah. That's a great thing about. New York it doesn't happen, too often other places. I don't think I guess people go to regular places but for some reason, New York you really have to live there. Awhile, walk down the street and everyone sort of million. Absolutely. It's awesome. Nice. Yes. So all right. So San Diego. I don't know that that's known to be a hotbed of comedy lines. I'm not sure what goes on down there. I know it's pretty and there's a beach and their seals in some places. You can see seal. Yeah. Sea world. So how do you like what, what are you doing as a young man? What are you doing in the in the high school? What was your position? Socially. I. Yeah. I think people thought I was I was a funny person. I don't even like saying that out loud, for some reason I always feel weird. Then it but yeah, I think they're out. I think you've established yourself as I think it's I think it's valid in. It's okay if you say I was a funny. Okay. Well. I was funny. People thought it was a funny. I one good for you making real progress today, yet throughout I feel like growing up and then. Yeah. In high school. I started doing I took drama classes, and they started an improv troupe my junior year place a little bit. Yeah. I did the tempest Shakespeare in high school. Yeah. Wow. John Paul saw tras, no exit heavy high school. Those are the two. They did. Yeah. Yeah. You know, exit and high school. I did. Yeah. Directed by our English teacher Brady Kelso. Was he like, was he the guy that was the cool English teacher? He yeah. People liked him a lot. Yeah. No extra movies. Yeah. Like, like classics. Yeah. No exit. That's the one where people can't get out of the room. Purgatory. Guys in a girl, I think, or no with the three people women in a guy to women and a guy that's the way we did it. Yeah. I don't I don't quite remember it, but it's, it's some bigger gory about life. Absolutely. Yeah. And as a seventeen year old, I understood all of the many layers.

"All right. Let's do this. How are you what the fuckers what the fuck buddies? What the fuck and ears. What the fuck Delic? What's happening Marc Maron? This is my podcast WT. F. Welcome to it. How's it going? How you holding up touching go over on this end. Oh. By the way, Kyle Mooney is on the show today from SNL talk to him a while back. Try to engage mister Mooney and some conversation. I think we did ok. He's a funny guy, and he does some interesting stuff on the show. So I was happy to talk to him. So that's going to happen in just a little while. Or right now, if you fast forward or in a little while if you hang out was, I can tell you so I've been doing therapy thing. I've been doing the EM DR therapy thing. And as I talked to you about it before, if you're just checking in, if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm I'm, I'm trying out EM DR which is a, a, a sort of a, an interesting therapy that involves seemingly, a toy some buzzers you hold onto alternating buzzers, or they can use I movement. I should know what it stands for shouldn't I? Oh, there it is. I movement desensitization and reprocessing EMT are I guess they've had a lot of success with it treating people veterans with post traumatic stress disorder and they're just applying to general trauma, I e being alive, childhood, what have you. Now again, a lot of you know, I'm not incapacitated. I'm not stuck in some, you know, tailspin all the time, but I just want to do some fine tuning is that okay? I'd like to do some fine tuning of the, the mental vessel the brain carriage. But the, the processes of AMD ours. Interesting because you in an hour, you sort of, you know, you reprot reprocessing event, you pick a target event that you see as some kind of source of some of your sort of trauma base thinking or bad thinking, or or something. Holds you in place of shame, self loathing anger. Whatever it is. Whatever is the, the, the bit of business that could use some tweaking, you, you find target for it and you, you fight. You sit in it. You, you put you say it. You sit in the feelings, you do the buzzers, and then you stop. And you check in with the therapist, and, and then tell her or him where your brain is now. And then you go with that, and it's, it's interesting to track stuff, because if you're a human, you'll find that you'll talk about an event, and you'll sort of circle around it, and you'll end up right there, standing in front of your parents, saying something leave me alone. Go fuck yourselves. You don't really love me. Stop draining me you guys are overwhelming. Some people say I love you. Mommy and daddy. Thank you. Do I question their wiring abilities. So all right. But that's going well, and as we drift closer to actual authoritarianism, it's nice to have your own shit straight better know who you are when the shit goes down. So least you can hold onto your brain. If your brain is wired correctly, and you're not susceptible to. To the mind fuck, the big mind. Fuck it, you know, it might help you out as we drift closer into a. Fairly clear authoritarian system, which despite anyone's desire, or, or, despite anyone that believes it's not happening. It's happening. There's a there's an authoritarian system, taking hold with a strong theocratic arm. But then just a basic sort of kind of mind fuck swiftly slope. No truth anymore. Kind of thing going on. Yeah. Everybody's got their own perspective, their own opinion. They're the free thinkers. It's amazing. How many of the free thinkers are just sort of untethered confident idiots with, with some new words and other people's ideas, but try to stay grounded jarred. Make sure your wiring is tight Wailua Kanye, I hike today. I saw bunny. It's you know, I was kinda scared up their someone put something my brain. I'll tell one second all birds wool runners are. "Yeah. No. That was that was like pretty early on for like, a female driven like girls can do it too. There's only wasn't before that very much of that nowadays. It's actually become kind of a big thing. As a reason why I'm asking is. Because my next puzzle piece another one of these buckets here is just as modern generation of female lead raunchy comedies. There's a whole bunch of them from like trainwreck. Bridesmaids sisters bad mom's how to be single. And while you know, this one certainly takes things too much. I would say crazier places and much more raunchy places. And certainly I think it's not concerned with writing that line with being a mainstream movie, you know. Certainly those kind of movies. I think have to be inspirations and they've paved the way for these kind of movie to get made. Yeah. Because there hasn't been many. Many big female lead comedies like this. And so it's it's interesting that that's something that's happening now. And clearly, I mean, there's some great ones or some terrible ones too. That's kind of a kind of comedy in general nowadays. It's really hard to make a good. And that's why I think I think this is better than most of those movies. Definitely name. Yeah. And I think it's a shame that this movie seems to have kind of been buried even among like indie film, connoisseurs eight twenty four release which and I know you're a huge fan. They usually do a really good job of shepherding these smaller movies to the audience that would want to see them seems like this movie just hasn't gotten that level of promotion and hasn't gotten that level of release and even though critically. I think it's done fairly. Well, it maybe hasn't done as well there other movies, and I don't know watching this. I was like there's no reason why somebody who loves any of those movies that you just name. Yeah. Wouldn't love this movie. Inaccessible art move now. Anyway, not at all not at all. It's funny. It's ridiculous. It's it's got a lot of great like humor. A lot of great. Just crazy moments and great performances by the two leads as well as the cast of all the other people that they encounter a lot of fun characters along the way, you know. Yeah. I totally agree. I think it's it's hopefully like I could see this movie that if it finds an audience that the people who love it will watch it over and over and over again, and we'll quote lines from it and just like people do with with super bad and other Judd appetite film. I hope so you know, it might be a Kyle Mooney curse. Because nobody wants Briggs me. Bury their really good was raise was awesome. Yeah. I've never seen any Saturday Night Live with him on it because I don't really watch it ever on that. I don't watch the show, but I'll watch some sketches online. I'm sure I've seen him in his movie career. I guess is just like he's going to make movies that are pretty damn good. And then they just kinda get hidden from the work. Yeah. And he's really the biggest name in this movie to he's not exactly a big name. Right. Yes. So what would your next? Okay. So returning to kind of the into the night theme..

I think it was Kyle Mooney who thinks he's a rapper some there. He and Connie we're gonna have rap battle. I think I got the impression that they sat that up or set that up because you wanted to come off as he's changed. He's about he's a much nicer guy because that's what it was all about at the end. I'm not I forget some of the rap. I'm I'm I'm not angry Connie, I'm a nicer Inguri, something like that. Famous people. I agree. This is a real. Horribly wrong. I'll get that.
