"Keep things focused on baseball. But another good text from the 415 so much focus on baseball and rightfully so but enjoyed all the college football games so much yesterday. Absolutely. College football is back. U C L A taking down LSC with the Rose Bowl. How about that huge moment for the Pac 12 Merce Bruins taking care of business against Eddie? Oh, and the Tigers That was really cool to see and the Pac 12 needed it, man. The Pac 12 needed it bad because Montana upset Washington. The ranked Washington Huskies. I believe they were the fifth ranked team to lose to an FCS opponent dating back to like 2007. When Michigan felt the Appalachian State in that iconic game that we will never forget Washington Now going down, it just I think it was the first one in five years. Fish North Dakota State beat like Iowa State or something five years ago, but Man. Great day for college football cow Also lost in Nevada. Stanford lost a Kansas State yesterday. So a tough day for the Pac 12 and in many regards, but U C L A looking like a top contender in the Pac 12 South for sure. And we will continue to keep our eyes on that. This is the last Sunday without NFL football, and I'm certainly as a red zone junkie. I'm thrilled that the NFL will be back here last Sunday without football until I think Presidents Day weekend of the weekend after this year with the extension of the sea. In 17 games now, so I am very much looking forward to talking football with you here on these airwaves in the coming weeks specifically 40 Niners quarterback situation so much to unpack in that regard, but so much you're preparing for today. In terms of this Giants Dodgers matchup like I mentioned early in the show 18 games in the books between these two tides. This season nine and nine, and the margin of error between these two sides has been also thin. The Giants winning several games late on, you know like a Will Smith stepping off the first base bag, Darren Ruff's check swing Cody Bellinger air mailing a ball over the third base bag at Oracle Park earlier this season. The Dodgers have also beat the Giants and narrow fashion A few times. Tyler Rogers had some tough moments. Early in the year at Dodger Stadium. Given up that walk off home run to Will Smith nearly gave up a walk off to Albert Pujols, who might talking to me that made that catch so Already just a tremendous season for this rivalry. Both teams head into Sunday night baseball on ESPN and can be are at 86 50, and it's been. It's been a lot of fun to watch. It's been really cool. And these these games as a writer have taken a toll on me. Because a little bit about my writing process. I usually start, you know. Putting my game story together. We've got to have the game story published by the final out. I usually start putting it together around the seventh inning. And with these Giants Dodgers games, I've almost either had to rewrite everything or just wait until the top of the ninth to just, you know, get ready to go and get everything down on the papers that we we have something to present to readers the final out, But these two teams have played so many games have been decided by inches and it's been It's been dramatic. It's been fun. It's been intense. There's no reason to expect that Sunday night should be any Different Walker Buehler, Cy Young candidate going for the Dodgers, and one thing that I want to get into want to hear your perspective on it. We can be our is the number second executive bullpen day for the San Francisco Giants Gabe Kapler going with Dominic Leone and as I mentioned, the reason the Giants manager is going with the right hander is likely because he anticipates trade Turner, Mookie Betts and Justin Turner and three of the top four spots. In that lineup. Max Muncy has hit second for Dave Roberts Dodgers team and so it's important to have a right hander on the mountain neutralize that part of the Dodger lineup. The Giants expected They will have most of their top bullpen arms fresh Tony Watson able to go today. Tyler Rogers able to go today, Jake McGee able to go today after all of those guys were down on Saturday night, so the Giants had a bit of a deficit there against Julio Urias having to rely on Sammy Long, Jose Quintana, Kayla Barrier. John Bravia. Some of the guys at the back end of that bullpen depth compared to what you would consider the back end of the actual bullpen and Leone Rogers. And McGee and I received a lot of questions a lot of texts as well about why the Giants aren't digging into their minor league pitching depth and bringing up a starter from Triple A or double A And, quite frankly, the reason is no one's ready. You look at this giant farm system and the top pitchers in the system Right now, The top pitchers in 2021 have been Ryan Murphy, who's terror it up, fifth round draft pick in 2020. He's up at high a Eugene throwing the ball extremely well. And Kyle Harrison, who was last year, pitching for the daily South Spartans out and conquered, he was bought out of his UCL. A commitment by the China third Round draft pick in 2020 High School Kid has had a really good year with the San Jose Giants. We're gonna get into their development with Marc de Lucchi around 11 30 this morning when we talked Its prospects. But the Giants don't really have guys at the top of the farm system they sent Matt Frisbee. Spring training invitee from double A to Triple A during the first half of the season, thought that he might be able to help this Giants team didn't happen. He got sent back to double a Sean Jelly recently got the promotion 2018 2nd round draft pick out of Kentucky. He recently moved from double A to Triple A, but he's not missing bats right now, and when you're not missing bats when you're not generating strikeouts and whiffs, it's difficult to bring a guy like that up to the major league level in the midst of a pennant race. You know the other guys the Giants had in Camp Tristen back. Out of Stanford. He was someone who the Giants thought might be able to help them at the end of the season, dealt with an injury this year and just hasn't pitched a whole lot and then Kywe. Tang was the other right hander who was in camp, but he was probably behind a map for his be Sean Jelly and interesting back. So back in spring training. Back in Scottsdale, Gabe Kapler sat down and said, If the Giants go through and burn their top 678 options they're going to need 9 10, 11 12 and those four guys to be able to help them at the end of the season and their development trajectories just haven't played out in a way where the Giants can rely on them. So when you've got a situation like the Giants do this week where Johnny Cueto needs to go on the I l After that Tuesday, start with the right elbow strain when Alex would test positive for Covid 19 still symptomatic. As of Saturday, running a fever got body aches and chills. Not gonna be able to help the Giants for at least another week. Potentially more. You have a decision to make. The decision is, Do you go to triple A and bring up a Scott Kazmir or Logan? Andrew Sick or a Matt Shoemaker, who none of those three guys, All of them have majorly experience. But none of those three guys have thrown the ball particularly well for the river cats this year in the PCL, or do you rely on a bullpen that is ranked At or near the top of the major leagues in e. R. A throughout this season to cover nine innings against a really difficult Dodgers lineup, and I don't think it was much of a decision for the Giants to make here. I don't think that Farhan Zaidi and Scott Harrison gave Catherine the coaching staff. We're overthinking it too much and saying, Hey, let's give Sean Jelly a shot here. He's not ready. I don't think they were sitting there, saying Matt Shoemaker had one good start out of three at Triple A Sacramento. He can give us four or five innings. Bring him up. I don't think that that was really a part of the calculation here. The Giants essentially are using bullpen games out of necessity. This is not something that any team wants to do..

Marc de Lucchi Dominic Leone Justin Turner Matt Frisbee Johnny Cueto Leone Rogers Kyle Harrison Tyler Rogers Sammy Long Jake McGee John Bravia Cody Bellinger Albert Pujols Ryan Murphy Scott Harrison Jose Quintana Andrew Sick Will Smith Julio Urias Mookie Betts

"I guess we just kind of have to add it to the list. But, uh, I'm seeing changes down here in the minor leagues on a day to day basis. I don't think you would ever think of it the major league level. This is kind of the breeding ground for all of the experimental rules. You know the runner at second base rule that we're now seeing in the big leagues that I think is going to start to go away soon. Is something that we started here in the minors four or five years ago, and there are a whole laundry list of rules that they're trying out in the minor leagues right now that you have to wonder if maybe they'll make it to the big leagues, But he had to get back to your point. Uh, not a fan and I saw that as well that I guess it's going to be a thing going forward, but Hey, it's just It's the sport that it is baseball right now. So John, I had Joe on on a podcast last week, and we were kicking around some of the names in single and I think everybody's interested in Luciano and Kyle Harrison and all the big name guys, But you came at me with one Hira Palmyra's. There's a guy that people need to start paying attention to. He's hitting 3 22 down in single A ghetto ps over 1000. He turns 21 about 2.5 weeks or so he's got eight home runs himself. I know that everybody is focused on Lucy in his power to leave that high rope. Ah, Marissa to Cuba. You were pretty have done this guy like This week. Yeah, it's a fun Santo's 18 to where it isn't just Luciano and Luis motto, So they're rolling out of line up every day of 78 prospects, which is just not something you see, really ever that the class a level most talented team at San Jose has had in over a decade and, Yeah, higher Open Marsh. He's a left handed hitter. With power. He he's finally tapping into that power here in his second pro season, you can really see the potentially to a 430 ft homer. Yesterday. He had a couple of days last week. Eight hits in a row, Uh, nearly nearly broke a league record, which is stood for for almost 100 years. So really impressive stuff from high rope amorous and he plays a strong corner outfield as well. Good arm plays right plays left. He's only 28 years old. Part of a great international signing class. You know, a lot of attention gets made to the draft and understandably so every June in July, But the San Francisco Giants had an international signing class in 2018, where they locked in Marco Luciano. They locked in Luis mottoes and they locked in higher open Mars. These are the three Big names. They were all teenagers back then, uh, Luciano and Marcos actually are still teenagers, But I think this is a class that down the road you're going to say, Wow. I mean, giants really did something. This was the previous regime to this was 2018, and I think they deserve a lot of credit for for some of the players that they were able to find. It's a scout and then eventually signed and now we're seeing them go through the development process. And you know, we were just talking a little while ago about the The 21 draft Hobby was just a few days ago, but one of the guys that's hot and it was kind of a surprise. Jimmy Glow Winky and I know that you tweeted out that that he was hot the other night. There's just There's a lot of guys on this roster. I know Luciano as you said. It's kind of the headliner, but there's a lot of guys in this roster. Who Who could be a future guys on size? Yes, and I'll give you another name that that I think is someone that people should be paying attention to. And it's Casey Schmidt over at third base. He was the second round pick for the Giants last year Giants of Patrick Bailey in the first round, the young catcher who actually just joined San Jose this week, and then they took Casey Schmidt with their second pick, and When I talked to Kyle Haines, the farm director about Casey at the start of the year, he said, You know, we felt like we hit the lottery with this guy. We think he's Matt Chapman over there defensively over at third. Wow..

"NPR. The All Star break. Crowley in four Copes here Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Here. Adam Copeland on pop and one this morning. Home run Derby tonight at Coors Field. I cannot wait the balls not stored the human or The temperature. Apparently expected be warm. And Karl Ravech of ESPN saying that the wind is gonna be blowing out to right field tonight. So Shohei Otani, Joey Gallo, Matt Olsen one soda, the four left handed hitters. Might be a good bet. All weekend long. I've been saying my pick for the home run Derby, Pete Alonso to repeat. That slugger won it in 2019. And I always think that players in their first derby have a bit of a challenge to figure out the pace. Figure out the timing. Figure out Their comfort level. And so I always like to go with a proven guy in the home run Derby. Peter Alonso my pick, but And learning that The human or is not in place in terms of storing baseballs and learning that the wind is gonna be blowing out to right field and knowing what a short porch they have, and right at Coors Field could do. Maybe Joey Gallo. We're models. Some of the Oakland A's could be really good picks. Otani and Soto matched up in round one. I cannot wait to see that I also am a bit nervous. To see Shohei Otani tonight because there is so much pressure on him to perform this week. He is the greatest show in baseball Greatest show we've seen in a long time. And he's someone who doesn't take batting practice on the field pre game with the Angels. It's not all that uncommon. Buster Posey doesn't take batting practice on the field for the San Francisco Giants. Will be days where Mikey Stransky doesn't do it. When he is recovering from an injury or need to blow because he's the chance. Brandon Crawford, really the Giants only everyday players. But Little nervous for Shohei Otani. Because I really want to see him blast baseballs at course field and I think that with the wind blowing out to right To be really fun, But there are some other left handed hitters, and he's matched up against one in Juan Soto. Who could make it a quick and quiet night for him if things don't go his way immediately. Before we bring in Murph and Mac this morning to talk a little bit about the Giants first round draft pick Will bedding are out of Mississippi State. Lot of Giants fans who followed the draft closely, and I can't imagine there are a huge percentage of Giants fans who follow the draft closely because as a beat writer, I hardly followed the draft closely. One of the Jazz take high school short South Korea Watson out of the Miami area. They ended up going with Bednar. Sure thing. The right handed pitcher out of Mississippi State. Great fastball, tremendous slider. Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbyn, who saw bedding are shut down his team six innings of no hit ball on a clinching game three performance, the College World Series first off. How about that? The biggest stage in college baseball. He went six no hit innings in a win or go home game. Against one of the top teams in the country. So the Giants after like that, he said, that he's got a dragon fly slider and you have to see it to understand what he's talking about. But this pitch whips across the strike zone right to left. And so the Giants address the biggest hole in their farm system, right handed pitcher. He will immediately become the top right handed pitching prospect, maybe the top overall pitching prospect in the giant system up there with Kyle Harrison, the left handed out of day LaSalle, who has taken the third round of the 2020 draft, and by drafting Bednar, a college player who is likely to sign for an under slop deal. Those who really want to get into the intricacies of the MLB draft. It will save some money to potentially go after Polished, high school kid in Round two or round three. Who's looking for first round money. So that is why you saw the Giants go with the Mississippi State product, who was generally ranked around the 25th to 35th best prospect entering the draft, but the Giants take him at 14. They thought that his performance in Omaha gave them reason to believe that he can shoot through this farm system and help the team in the major league level within the next few seasons. And if he's helping the team in the next few seasons, Murph maybe will. Bednar will be in the city Connect Jersey One day. That was solid breakdown, by the way, and everybody wants to know about Will. Clark. Will Clark will Clark. What about my man? Chris Stratton? I know no love for Christmas and forget Chris Trap. He was supposed to be the right hand. He was will Bednar? Yeah, he was the right handed out of Mississippi. For Stratton also had like a five B All right, Well, it wasn't the CDA. You know, it wasn't the college World Series MVP, but I was thinking they've done this before. Yeah, they have within the last decade. They've done it forced me to look up, Chris dead. He's in the bigs. Speaking for the pirate. He's doing a fine job for the Pirates out of the bullpen. Shut out. Chris Stratton? Yes? Yeah. Good giant. And you said he immediately becomes the top right handed prospect. Didn't the guy who was here this weekend pitch one inning. Wasn't he supposed to be the guy Tyler Beatty 2014 out of it, But he was supposed to be the guy in 2014. He was supposed to be the guy in 2017 18. Now. I'm not so sure He's the guy. You got him for one inning. You got to prove one inning. One inning of three runs. Yeah, exactly. I was there. Friday night, buddy. I saw him with my own eyes. The uniforms. There they were. They're undefeated in the city. Connect. Don't know I didn't. I didn't react violently. Yeah, I did not react Text line. Did the text line. What are you gonna do? I don't know what's going on kids. It's the kid factor, but kids like him. I got him. I got my kids that weren't Jastremski City Connect. I was also I was surprised by the number of People who bought the jersey I thought it was you went to the frigging dug a story to stand in line. There were a lot of people instead, he connect gear. Yeah, I got another just totally off topic. But they're selling a T shirt at the dugout story that says San Fran. What the hell is that? What's going on? Really bad It's going on. There's whatever the opposite of city connect. Is that that is Yeah. Yeah, Anyway, that's neither here nor there. Uh, the city connects are are are they're going to have to engender good feelings after this weekend. Well, they have to and the next.

Joey Gallo Chris Stratton Karl Ravech Matt Olsen Brandon Crawford Adam Copeland Pete Alonso Shohei Otani Otani Kyle Harrison Peter Alonso Mikey Stransky San Francisco Giants Tyler Beatty Chris Trap Chris Soto Buster Posey Monday 2019

"You know, I don't think with those two guys, I mean, you know, but it is something that's going to continue. I mean, the Cardinals are not going to be any less paranoid that worked in this series. It's still going to happen. They've had a few a Joey Votto had some really strong words to say about the calls. Yeah, yeah, They've been a little, uh, They're always annoying, aren't they? Yes, she cardinals. Right, Right. That's what they do. Sure. I tell you that the three teams that you know it's in season playoff games Dodgers A's And cardinals and you know, that's not anything new for all of us who root for the Giants. That's kind of how we feel. So when you get to that point, little things from those three teams tick you off a little more better teams real so and when it happens, you just kind of go. It's the Cardinals. Yeah, we'll be ready, Paul and I'll be ready next Friday. We'll be bringing our our vocal cords there. A couple more things to get too much for the weekend starts here. One is Buster Posey. I mean, I know again. You're not in the training room. You don't have the X rays or anything but just kind of reading the tea leaves. You know, this thing is the left thumb is the glove thumb. I mean, you know you don't want to go catch Logan webs fastballs with that thumb injury and I don't even know about his ability to pinch hit, but they're talking if they put him on the I L they could bring them back next Friday in ST Louis. Would imagine puts his all Star game in the jeopardy so just kind of a developing story there. Yeah, I think I think the all Star Games in jeopardy even if he plays because we play as I would doubt that he'd be 100% a storm brews. Then they're bad. They don't go away. They hang And when you've got one on your left right where he's got it in the in the knuckle at the base of the film that you know that's where you catch the ball off of And, uh, And I mean, I would he, he might be able to hit before he could catch. So I mean, those things have a mind of their own. They can be gone in three days. It take three weeks. And you know what Buster? I mean, the one thing that Buster is you. You know, you have to take what he says with a grain of salt, because he's not always going to give you the truth. He wants to play. He wants to. He wants to play. But you know, you have to protect them. Even when the times he won't protect himself, So that's his. That's his history, and we'll just wait and see. I mean, he'll get there today and play catch. They'll make a maybe pick up a bad pick. Couple swings, but if it's still there, he won't show up. Yeah, so definitely something to watch and like you said All Star Game in Jeopardy and Mike. It's so funny. The difference between The NFL draft in the MLB. The MLB draft goes down on Sunday. We didn't devote the last six months of talking about like we did with Trey Lance and Matt Jones and that whole deal and yet, you know, for Giants fans. This is everything This is supposed to be, you know, Farhaan at his best, and Michael Holmes, the scouting director. He's drafted 100 Bishop and Patrick Bailey and Kyle Harrison at a daily salad. You know, I don't expect you to have the draft board lockdown, Mike, but it brings back memories for you. I'm sure Draft weekend. It has become a bigger deal. They televise it now and the Giants of the 14th pick. So just you know any any thoughts or feelings going into another major league draft and I mean, I'd say what position do you want, But you always want pitching right? And then you'll always want just my good players. Breaking news, right? Yeah, but it's still crap Shoot. I mean, you could get what you think It's just going to be a slam dunk going to happen. If you get the first pick, and still it doesn't it doesn't produce. So I mean, there's always that question Mark that wraps around the draft as to who got Who the guys are that are going to be your best guys. It doesn't It could be your 30th pick. I mean, you know it just it's baseball. Um, but it's exciting. And I know when you're a player in coming out of high school or college when you're eligible It. It absolutely stays in the vacuum mind. I mean, you know you're getting so much more publicity about it that the topics you know, they know they're going to get drafted. But then there's a ton of guys that just want to get drafted. They don't even care where it is. They just want to have a chance to go. And And those are the kind of guys that I root for. You know, the guys that, uh, they get picked in the in the last couple of rounds. You know where you know, but The flag. Take care of At the 20th picks. It's just as intense as the flag that the person who is number one in your your team draft that year. It's just as intense as the flag that he carries because you're representing your family. Your high school, your college, your coaches and all the people that have supported you. It's an emotional time. It really is, But I look forward to it and I'm reading the pre draft picks. We all are so hey, but that's not the most important thing this weekend. The most important thing. The new unions are getting rolled out tonight, you know, and you guys have to get these units. Well, that's what do you say that Look who just walked in my Let me let me think. Was this some sort of surprise attack? Honestly, it's a co. It's coincidental. At the very least, you just brought that It is a surprise attack and you know that you have to understand you guys are getting you're getting Mario Paliotta, who is our senior vice president. He's a marketing guy, but he's also no club. And nothing is more sacred tomorrow than a uniform Looking just looking it, Mike. He just walked in Carrying a box. Mario story. Paliotta. Look at Mike, The Mike and Mario show..

Matt Jones Joey Votto Trey Lance Patrick Bailey Paul Kyle Harrison Mario Paliotta Michael Holmes Cardinals today Sunday 30th pick three weeks Giants Paliotta Buster Posey Mark two guys three teams Logan

"Oh 45 and 6 80. Joe Ross back to work, and now the Nationals have one. Nothing. Lead number two Wilmer Flores against the Bay Area native Joe Ross pitches and Flores takes a fastball right there for a called strike. One Kyle Schwarber. Leadoff home run has put the Nats on the board. Flores, who had the game when he hit last night in extra innings Game two of the doubleheader. Take this slider a little bit low for ball one. So Wilmer, but it's still waiting for the Wilmer floor is that we watched all last year. Just shoot line drives all over the ballpark. That guy hasn't showed up yet. Here's the 11. He hits this one hard on the ground, but right into the defense or Josh Harrison. Shaded up the middle field of it. And throughout Wilmer, not Kyle Harrison. Kyle Harrison is a guy that we've been thinking about a lot because Kyle Harrison has Got off to a tremendous start to his minor league career. He has a young Bay area native himself. Joe Ross went to two Bishop O'Dowd. Kyle Harrison went to day LaSalle off in the East Bay and Kyle Harrison was picked by the Giants. And is having his first game experience as a pro. Here's a fastball to Brandon Belt High Ball one and he just mowing people down for San Jose. You have a chance to go down and see him. Be fun to watch him. I would think A little erratic, but he's a teenager pitching in a ball and striking out a ton of hitters. Here's ball 22 belt, too, and oh, Anyway, so I I just for a minute there confused Josh Harrison, longtime Big leaguer playing second today to the Giants, Little slip, They get Kyle Harrison on the mind. He's He's very exciting. Maybe already the most exciting Giants pitching prospect felt checks his swing on a fastball away, but he went, according to the third base umpire, Chris Siegel. That's unlike Brandon Belt. That pitch was not close. It's a belt who doesn't chase very often to account, especially instead of three. You know, it's two and one. Ross delivers felt hits a ground ball to the right side. Playing deep at second is Harrison and his throw to first in time.

"The Waterboy and I here during the break and are can be our fantasy Baseball league. There are two teams named after Mike Talk, Man. What I was like. Let's talk about it together with his top block. It was a pretty funny name. The funniest part about all this is my talk is not owned in our fantasy wig, but he is hitting Grand Slams down in Texas. Look, I'm not here for the Brandon Crawford slander if you got if you got Brandon Crawford, Reel it back, dilute intakes. Save it. I don't want it. Take a walk. I'm not here for it. The Giants are not in first place. They're not doing what they're doing without Brandon Crawford. He is the best player at least playing the best on the best team in baseball. Get a 51 of text, and I'm not coming at you specifically 50951. Excuse me. They just say, Dial it back on Crawford. He's an all time He has an all time. Great. They're saying he sucked offensively last few seasons. I don't know what you were watching. Because last year I watched him put up the best O P s numbers of his career, albeit in a 16 game season were 60 games in right now, and he's performing. Even better. He's the best Giants shortstop of all time, So we were going to put together a roster or a line up of the best players in each position. He'd have to be in your lineup. So yeah, for me. He's an all time great San Francisco Giant. I put together that list of top 10 homegrown San Francisco Giants and I got the, uh somebody texted it, and I can't believe I forgot this guy. My apologies to the Dominican Dandy one. Marshall should probably be on this list as a top 10 all time. Great San Francisco Giants five pitches from three arm angles, Frank Robinson once said It was like he Through 15 different pitches anyway, We'll make the connection now with Melissa locker on the, um, a guest line, and Melissa is a great job covering minor league baseball for the athletic and she checked in with her here. Is that Sam long supposed to make his debut at some point in the game today? Maybe not as the starter Zach Little announced last night by SF Giants media relations as the starter today, so we'll open it up. Melissa, you do a great job you're giving me every day. The information I need from the minor leaguers who could be here. How is it been? How's the start to the season? Ben, You got minor league baseball to write about. Yeah, well, thanks, Adam. I'm glad somebody's chicken that daily threat out because it is taking a bit of time to do every night. But, yeah, though it's been good to have it back. You know, it's almost like it was away for a year and you forget what the rhythm of the whole season is, and, you know, obviously, things are not 100% normal. And yet it does feel pretty normal, which is awesome. Considering everything that all these guys went through last year without having a season so still getting used to the new new league names and kind of the flow of different affiliates in different places, But Still minor league baseball, and it's been a lot of fun. You have a new league names and the teams. I mean, like, I know the new The Eugene Emeralds have been up there for a while, but other Giants affiliate now you've got to get used to them as the high A team in San Jose is the low a team. Is there a league or a team or an affiliate? In particular, you've found the most interesting or maybe the most exciting based on the talent that Eugene team has got a lot of really interesting players. Obviously Patrick Bailey, the topics of the Giants took last year went directly there to make his pro debut. Will Wilson who they didn't get the The play a minor league season after acquiring him from the Angels last year, and he's put up great numbers for them. 100 Bishop was supposed to be playing there. He's been hurt since the first week of the season, but I assume we'll get back there as well. So that's been a fun team. Caleb Killian, you know, just killed it, like his name out of the rotation in Eugene is already up in Richmond. So that's been a lot of fun, too. And then, of course, you know that low. A San Jose team has got Marco Luciano Lewis mottoes Alexander Canario, Kyle Harrison. So a lot of really high upside players who started off like looking like high outside very inexperienced players, and it really hit a nice stride over the last few weeks come together as a team, so a lot of good talent all up and down the Giants organization. Right now, you get to sit as a sooner rather than later. If you want to see some of these guys because they may not be there for that long. We'll see what happens. But I guess that's maybe my next question for you is how has the end? I've seen this with the Giants a little bit because As of Covid, and because they still had to sort of keep teams and pods and with each other. They have not been able to call up anybody directly, like from double a to the majors. Not that you see that a ton anyway. But on occasion you'll see players sort of skip or wrong or a level of the minor leagues. And I was thinking about this last weekend actually was listening to the Giants pre game and they were doing this state in history on Jason Schmidt striking out 16, Florida Marlins and one of the guys he got in the ninth inning was Miguel Cabrera. And I was thinking, boy, that guy came up. From double a to the majors and help the Marlins win a World Series in 2000 and three. So what's the situation right now? With calling guys that they have to come from? Triple A. You can move guys from double A to triple in. The Giants have been moving guys up and down. It seems like over the last couple weeks. Can you explain that to me a little bit?.

"Should have in mind when it comes to giant system and three guys who may or may not pan out. That's the nature of having prospects. That's the nature of development. But there Sean Jelly 2018 2nd Round draft pick out of Kentucky Stuff. Cory third round draft pick out of High school in Utah and then Kyle Harrison, the 20 23rd round pick out of Dallas. Al out conquer. Kyle Harrison is really the guy who's climbing the ladder in the prospect rankings. Right now there's a lot of people were put on notice by his performance down and in Trucks who felt that you know, he was kind of an undervalued gem that the Giants gotten If you were called back in June, they built their draft class around, you know, putting a package together to convince Kyle Harrison to forego his commitment to U C L A, which was a strong one to play for the hometown team. And I'm not sure any organization other than the Giants could have done that. But they had the cash being the local team. They built their entire strategy around him. So Kyle Harrison is definitely going to be named to watch in the system for the next few years now. You see up in the major leagues by 2023. Probably not, but it's going to be a long, exciting build up with him much like it's been with Marco Luciano. One of the names that we've talked about in the past, as it pertains to kind of filling out or are extending the Giants rotation was Jon Lester. It seems imminent that him in the nationals are going to get a deal done. Is there anybody out there? And sort of a Lester like mold? Obviously, with Harris being former Cubs employees, there was a connection there and all that. But is there a guy who kind of fits that veteran who can come in? Give you a couple of years? Maybe help some of the young guys through the system? Help this team win something like that? Is there a guy out there that that strikes you is Lester like Uh, maybe Brett Anderson. Is he still a free agent? I mean, he's the guy who, you know. Look, if you're looking for a less or type pitcher you're looking for someone who is either going to be your fifth starter or someone who's going to compete for a long relief role. So I wouldn't say James Paxton, even though I think that he would be a great addition for the Giants, right, especially on a multiyear deal. Get him on the books for 23 years and hope that he figures it out, gets back from the show. But if you're looking at that left your caliber, I think that Anderson's the name that comes to mind and I do think they need to prioritize left handed pitchers. Point. They don't have a whole lot coming through, even though they like Connor Menace and Anthony Banda to really under the radar like we're going in the weeds If we're talking that part of the rotation, but yeah, so it's really hard to say without having the full list in front of me. But Anderson just top of mind because you know he's hey was in Oakland is always available, like their clubhouse guy, and you could probably sign him on February 15 for you know $800,000 with a million and a half, and instead of how many guys are the giant's gonna sign about five days before Or string. Spring training starts, obviously, like 345, and they're all probably gonna be pictures. Yeah. Oh, these balls doing this, but the giant seemed like they really like to push it. Well, and they like to push it, and they are successful in acquiring these guys because they leave spots open for them. If you look at the Giants rotation right now, it's Kevin Gossman, Johnny Cueto, Anthony DeSclafani, and Alex would attack least three of those guys have major question marks in Quito, DeSclafani and Alex would so if you're a free agent thinking, who should I signed with the Giants, or should I start with the Padres? Yeah, you're gonna Have a much better chance of winning a rain with the Padres. But you could also pitch in the fifth spot in the Jazz rotation through July and get traded to a team that could run a ring. And so you're gonna have a lot more opportunities to build up your value in San Francisco than you would elsewhere and the Jazz have improved the good reputation right now, at least under for anxiety of helping pictures bounce back from aggression, and so there's just good opportunities. It's a good organization right now. Her creation standpoint, they believe that creations Have said that when they'd come in on those might early deals opportunities to win starting job. So that's that's what I think things stand. All right, So let's get back to these prospects. Excited earlier, Luciano moves up in the B A top 100 number, 12 overall, I don't think that surprises you in the least bit. You're a big Luciano guy, and then you get Bart Barton Rama's falling a little bit, but Not not too much. I mean, 41 to 28 for Bart, or in front of sorry from 28 for Bart, going from 58 to 83 for Ramos. There's a bunch of you guys to come in every year and in those guys traded some water, all things considered on the list. Um, does any of that shock you? It all given just sort of this last year, and how little opportunity some of these guys have had to get, you know, serious at bats with either being the alternate Cider Instructional League. It's just been a weird year. Obviously. You're not shocked about Bart not shocked, not Ramos. And the only thing that I would say about Marco Luciano is I did not see the list today, but I can't imagine he's not a top 10 prospect in the lake. As you said, I am is high on Marco Luciano has anyone and that is fully based on all the people that I've talked to the Giants organization who believe that this guy is going to be a star and is going to reach the major leagues sooner than people anticipate. I would not rule out if all things were normal in the minor leagues this year, I really wouldn't rule out the end of 20. 21. I just think that this guy is dripping in talent. You know, he's not necessarily a one Soto or Ronaldo Jr. Who you could just speed right through the minors there. So were many holes in his game when I saw him at summer camp last year, But he clearly has the talent. He clearly has all the physical tools and it's just gonna be a matter of getting him the necessary wraps. If they can run him through double A and get him some great opportunities this year. Get him five a bath on a daily basis. And the sky's the limit. I really mean that the Giants haven't had a prospect like this in a while. That should get everybody excited for for obvious reasons..

"Way to help those less fortunate this holiday season. So I got a question. Our way. Later this for you. How often Do you go hang outside the barbershop and talk about Giants mandolin prospects in Walnut Creek. I don't stand outside the first go inside, talking about I know that. But listen to Kruger was like, Yes, we talked about all the time. The barbershops Walnut Creek. Well, because here's the thing I gotto Modules Barber shop in downtown Walnut Creek. Okay. And I've gone there for ever since I've lived out here. Good. Good spot. Um, now you now everybody kinda kinda knows me So I always get the sports questions. But I swear the day list South factor out here and Walnut Creek and conquered. Is just huge, and people have asked me three times I took my son this weekend. The guy caught saddle up next me outside. It was cold. And he said, Hey, you seen Andrew Harrison? I didn't see him pitch once, Uh, you know, I didn't see him pitch at one time, and he's like, Oh, you know the deal of South kid. He's a lefty, Strong heart. And then the other day it came out that you know that. Chance general manager saying that this kid Kyle Harrison, I should say not Andrew years and that's the Kentucky Kid. Tyler Cars. Yes, is throwing almost 100 miles an hour on the Giants, you know, basically paid their first round pick below slots. They could pay this kid. Out of his UCL a commitment and a lot of people said it's not so hot, but you know people like people are big on day LaSalle Man. It's unbelievable. The delis huge love the image crew on that Creek Barbershop talking Giants prospects just chilling outside. With a mask on I hope since we're, uh since we're shutting out the barbershops let me go and shut out Chino's barbers garage and Sarah, thanks to the home Latino. I have to say that my barbershop conversational experience. Larry is radically and I mean radically different. Then then your barbershop conversations now stand in one's better on ones, ones worse, just saying Just different sets of conversation. Oh, I can I get a lot of giants a lot of Niners a lot of warriors and a lot of lot of local kids like Let me give a shout out to Mr Bicke. Everybody. Just let it has been my barber for going on about 18 18 years now way have great conversations or one sided. Uh, He doesn't have the baby talk back, but yeah, I'd like I'd like to thank you for being my companion. For all these years. You'd probably get more people asking you questions, Tom. That idea because everybody recognized. You know when I'm shaving my head, they don't bust in the bathroom maybe doing in there. Tober. That's a different conversation. If you bust into the man's back, it's been a while since I've I've got to seem Amantino because, well, you know the Rhona So maybe the conversations have change. Maybe they are talking about high school pictures. Maybe a t knows Barbra's garage North Bay High Center for they are you know what? I don't know. Things might have changed. I just simply don't know. You never know. Yeah, there. It happened now, not now. Sorry happen. We're not talking high school. We're not talking prep sports diplomacy. I'll give you the other one. I'll give you the other question. I get all the time. Yeah, e I got it for years. What? Carrie, really.

"But the first day he came up after that three weeks, he looks like a gold glove. Third date, So I got it and I gotta hand it to the defense coach at the Iowa Simple, Okay? Am I right in saying that you look at that talent pool Joey Bart's one of most talented players on the team. Well, you know what I mean? Yeah, I mean, you say top 15. I would agree with that. But it's hard to judge based on the simulated games, you know? Look, you see, Very athletic. I mean, he made a throw yesterday that I thought was unbelievable. He makes good cop solid contact on the ball. I think all things being equal. I think he should probably be on the team. I don't I don't think that's a controversial opinion. But you know you can't just judging. I mean, these are not major league games. These air games against your teammates with no cracks. No fans in the stands. You know nothing. Nothing like that You're not facing, you know, Kershaw and Bueller every day on and whatnot, So I mean, I think we'll get a better sense of it when he finally does get up here, and hopefully it'll be this year, But, yeah, I mean, if you look at the talent, you know Ah, on the team right now, and there's a lot of journey men on it. Is there some older players who have not done well in recent years, we need to re prove themselves. It's a fair statement. Where you say, were you were you when they drafted Patrick Bailey? Did your eyebrow raise? Sure we talked about this with you before, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you know made you think, huh? Is going on here. Well, I mean, uh, Look, I have spent a lot of times talk talking to Michael Holmes, the amateur status director, and he's a real stand up guy. And if he tells me that it's that they love Bailey. I believe him, Okay, but I think there has to be an element of You know what? We didn't wrap this guy, Bart. We like this guy Bailey. We want to cover ourselves here that the most important defence of position we have. And if it turns out that Joey Barton is actually everything that Bobby Evans and that administration thought he wasn't everything that baseball America thinks he is. And and Patrick Bailey turns into a great like that, then we have one of the best trading chips you can possibly imagine. Imagine what you could get for a young, everyday catcher like that, So it really kind of to me was a no lose situation, but it's hard to look at it from the outside and not be a little suspicious about why they took a catcher. Two years after they took a catcher in the first round. Do, you know, just sort of inside baseball question. Shifting off a Bart here for a second. This Kyle Harrison kid who signed from day LaSalle. Nobody watched him pitch in high school loved him and he signed for way over his slot. 2.5 million. When the slot was 710,000. You know, what do you know about that, In terms of you know the giant's going above and beyond pain and extra tax to get this done in? Is there some buzz around that pick as I know I know the kids on the 18 but that could be like the steel of of the draft. I I think so. And, uh, you know, you might want to put morning music on your m o u R n i n g because the reason they had to pay him 2.5 $1,000,000 when his slot with $700,000 was to keep him from going to U C l A was there were no man. No, no, if you if you have an 18 year old who's that talented Any ends up getting first round money like that late first round money like that. It's real simple. They had some talks within before the draft. Every team does this. It's not They may not be, you know completely by the books, but its not unusual and you get a sense about what it might take to keep a high school kid that good from taking the college scholarship, and the Giants got a sense that he would You know, he would. He would come to the Giants if they gave him that kind of money, And that's what happened and that the tax thing is not a big deal. We're talking pennies here. The way it works is you're given a draft pool. In a giant's case. It was $9.2 million for the seven picks. So, um If you're allowed to go 5%. That's the league gives you the rules. Give Youa leeway of 5% s. So in this case, what are we talking about? $160,000. You could go for $160,000 over. You just have to pay. 75% tax on on just the over ridge. So let's say they were over by the whole amount. That means that that their draft was 9.2 million. They went to 96 So now they've gotta pay another 300,000 then goes to 99 Now, after that, that they go beyond the 5%. Then they lose a draft, which they definitely didn't want to do. They knew all the math before they started this whole thing out, and they stayed within the 5% so it's just a few more bucks out of the Johnsons pocket and they get deeper draft pick. So kind of the theme of the 2020 camp is The Giants should be good in 2022. That's the theme right between part and Bailey and we haven't mentioned Luciano and and all that radio Sharabi Oh, Ramos. Right. There is some. You know some of these. I mean, the younger guys you mentioned are still pretty wrong. They're going. They're going to need time. Luciano is the one guy even from the moment they signed him, and through the time he's been with the organization, you look at him and you look the way he swings the bat and the sound coming office that and he's the one guy, you know. You know what One. Soto came up when he was 19 or 20. This could be the one guy who's the Giants won soda right now. It's just too bad that this he's lacking that development here this year, among all the other prospects. Henry. Good stuff. Do you have a cardboard cutout going? There is there's a Jew can insert a joke here Right? Like there's been well, The problem is that they charge by the square foot and I'm a little short on cash this week. I was going to say no, I don't want Henry. The joke could be. You know, like your girlfriend has been saying you're a cardboard cut after last, you know, six months, right? Yeah, Here's one really thing really quickly that I want to see this battle That's gonna happen. Okay? The executives I've noticed have been enjoy watching these inter squad games from behind the plate in the seats. I think that's where they're going to want to watch him during the season. But you would imagine that's what put cardboard cut out so they could be seen from the center field camera and I just want to know who's gonna win the cardboard cut out people. Or farmhands ideas and his own office going to be interesting. All right. 500 words. Yeah, And you could get some jokes off on some of the guys if they're a little more wooden some of those interviews like I tried to interviews this, this certain executive, But I wasn't sure if I was talking to the cardboard cut out, you know, And they should bring station bring courage reader back and sit in there. So you'll have Woody being would bind the plate. Ah, no, we gotta have we'd have the cardboard cut out of what's his face from Toy Story was like here. The actual Thie actual Woody. That's what Yeah, is the actual What? What did what do you have A last name? Now you share a body. Just Woody. Okay, Buzz Lightyear had a last name like only the first and only time I'm going to get a woody on the radio. Well, and sometimes in the morning, we get a little frisky, and that's how we keep it. That's how we keep it zoo like around here, All right. Hey. Ah! Good stuff from Rayna Every morning, buddy. Keep it going and thanks coming on. All right. You got it. There is on copes. You know, if Polly was here, I would have to, you know, do what? I do know that cardboard cutout riff. I was on the right into a Woody Allen bit, buddy. Come on, man. You know what? He had one of his bitch. We're sort of at the end of one of the end of one of his segments. He just kind of said he goes. My father and get terrible news. He was laid off at work. They developed a little device that does everything my father did, but does it better than he does. Terrible news was my mother rushed out and got one herself, So they got it. All right. Okay. There, you get a little wood man for you Close to.

Tomei, Jim Thome Foam. Yeah, That's what I call them executed one that used to get me as a kid was Nomar Garciaparra. I used to go Nomar Garciaparra that there's a lot of ours and a lot of peace. It's kind of cute, Young copes, mispronouncing Garcia. Persons are Are you two Probably have a problem with that is I was looking at him and root for the Reds. You know, that's what's true Note memory. My Nomar story When I chased him at Fenway after he had a showdown with Tim Hudson, they talk smack to each other, and I always had to look for the different angle. Is the Examiner guys, The afternoon guy? Susan Slusser in the Chronicle, Howard Brian the Mark they were going to the game story. I had to come with a featuring Lee. Did you ever read the Examiner? Copes Thie? Afternoon, Examiner May I don't think we got it. I know it was. It was like the jock block light like, but our whole mission was we had to come up with a different angle. You had to pick a featuring a angle out of the game story, which now days by the way is day Rigor like you think the Henry Sherman to the world to carry Crowley's of the world. They can't write. The Giants defeated the Dodgers 3 to 2 Tuesday night. You didn't write a gamer behind seven innings from, you know Kyle Harrison or whatever you know they can't do that. You just gave Cowher's and start by the way. That's seven nights out like that get started. Good start. I think I think you got in my head when I was pouring my coffee. You're tossing out his e r A's in the ones I was looking at it. I was like, Do this. Get a sick, tense for 12. Heard about for a while. Not going. Why? Just let him He'd just keep breathing, son. Just keep breathing. Don't talk about him too much Lay low, but he don't know about him too. Work on your work on the side will get you when you're ready to put away no more. And Tim Tim Hudson when he was prime Young Huddy, and he was so ferocious, stewed and he he was backing down to nobody and the Red Sox were pretty bad at that time, and Nomar was bad. A hut he came up and in on Nomar, Nomar stepped out and gave him a look. And then Hadi Hadi gave the look right back. Like what? And then I cook took kind of a step towards him. You know what I mean? Like, Like, What do you looking out? Let's go. You know, I mean, how do you was in the court? It calmed down pretty quickly, but I took note of it. I was like that's gonna be my feature angle for the game. Getting Hudson pitch fantastic in that game. I want to go back and look at that game long. I want to say he went like eight and 1/3 or something. He shoved, dude. But I was trying to find Nomar couldn't find it couldn't find him and I was running late. Fenway was like the last guy in the parking lot or last guy in the clubhouse, walking to the parking lot in that rat infested Seward damp Fenway tunnel. Smelling bad, bad hot dogs. Whatever, and I ran up, introduced myself and he doesn't even look at me And I said, I gotta talk to you about that Tim Hudson in your in your instant today, and he's looking straight ahead. Don't start ass man. Start s just kept walking on his blue eyes like, well, there's quote. There's my quote one of the line. Did you quote I used the quote was dosed artist starts present anyway. Anytime I hear no more is what I think of, and always just about what a balls out pitcher Tim Hudson. Okay, so this is where your 4000 s O would have been. Summer. Summer or spring. I got out two months and start third start of the year at Boston. You know, like eight? No, he get banged around this. Okay? Another one. Then at Fenway interested we were that was weird there for patriots day that first time around. I remember that. Maybe it wasn't 2000. That's his only student 99. That was his only start at with a late 99. Did they go there late? 19 nineties. I only took over the all Star break. I'm pulling it up for you. I'm dying to hear this buddy. See, you know Margo Ferrara. So what happened here? I got I got Tim Hudson at Boston in August of 99. Okay. How do you do? He goes eight innings there. Four hits. Yeah, one earned. Yeah. Vin Case to watching to give up a bomb lowers the rate of 2.7 is won the game. He's won the game Six to those are the 99 Red Sox who wanted playing in the CS against the Yankees, right? So that was in Hudson. It just came up in June. So he was in the big show like six weeks. What was the date on that August? What, August 19th? He? Yeah, He's been the bigs two months and he was bowing up on Garciaparra. That's what the deal is. Garcia far was like what? What would he want A batting title. At that 0.99. Yet he probably had it might have been the trying to find his numbers that have been the year he did it. Yeah. Anyway, we should get rolling in the morning so we can jump back into the honey Omar, 220 wins, dude. 220 wins for Tim Hudson and in a World Series ring. E mean, game seven start could have gone better Could've gotten waiting like 22 3rd or something wasn't one, too. If that didn't want want, that's a light out and did yeah, but still to 20 bro to 20. "1045 and six sports leader I'm curious about about this giant's roster situation with guys who have not done Ah, whole lot of work since coming back, and I know Capital said that Brandon Belt had had taken some grounders yesterday. He hitting the cage, but I guess like it I guess everybody's on minimal work, right? I know everybody's hitting, probably on the side and throwing bullpens on the side in the live game action is is minimal, and that's probably for everybody across baseball. But thie The roster situation is a weird one. I just, you know, find it out yesterday that Billy Hamilton shows up and I was thinking, you know, Is he going to be ready to go for Thursday? We're a week away that video, bad side a settlement in practice, but again, how many has anybody had and again the questions About what the Giants are doing. And I'd love to pick somebody's brain about this what they're going to do with the the young arms because you've got this whole system and everybody does again. This is every team in baseball has got this whole system of minor league pitchers specifically ones you just drafted. That obviously you're not going to Todd Van Poppel. Anybody like nobody's ready tow to go straight to the bigs right now. Who's the guy from a couple years ago? Who did that with the Royals? The 2014 Brandon Finnegan hey, had pitched like in the college world. Siri's, and then he pitched In the regular World Series like in the same year. Like in the same calendar year. Yeah, not not a little bit more of an accomplishment, I guess than David Aardsma right Dinars would go pretty darn close from Rice almost straight to the bigs. Not not quite. But he kicked around the majors for awhile. There aren't stuck around for a minute. Isn't his claim to fame is he passed Hank Aaron, right for the first name alphabetically in baseball history. You need to go look for Four letters in a R D right before you got a new one pretty good anyway. Yeah, I'm curious about what they're going to do with the with the arms because, like they just signed Kyle Harrison talking. You're not going to throw him. Assume they're gonna put him in the player Pull these 18 years old. You probably just have a throwing program Sean Jelly They're not gonna add. But they keep adding, keep adding hitters and keep bringing up names that we should be paying attention. Tio, these Jose Siri's and Toribio and and Will Wilson, so lots of guys too, to keep an eye on. My guess is we try to make out this roster. But again, we don't even know who's playing third base on Thursday. Is Evan Longoria going to be ready to go? And if not, what's the What's the rotation here? How do you spend guys around? How do you drop somebody from the outfield to the infield is going to be. Is it going to be Du Bon is going to be McCarthy like the names. We were thrown out earlier, anyway. Quit tracking cast pretext line before we make the connection with Murph Ortiz. Cute, Dave. 209 checks in on the cash. Three takes on it says gave had mentioned the team had spring training prior. Yeah, they did that spring training prior another get summer camp. Now they're having it now. Does it really matter? Uh, seven or seven seasons, Wonder of Richard Sherman listens to a lot of Rodney Dangerfield. No respect, no respect at all. I figured that's what it is that the reference he's making there. He gets no respect. But then again, we got to that point with Sherman last year where it's like Nobody said anything about you for a while and you give, you know because we're playing good football. The whole thing with Baker Mayfield was so bizarre the claiming the Baker didn't shake his hand because, like I did mental video The check is a go. Yeah, That's the term. You said. I must have blacked out. Totally missed. It must of blacked out for 15 checks in and says comes great. Sherman and Kappler Sound no. And memory says the end. Yeah, we're keeping an eye on Evan Longoria this weekend. And what? What is he gonna play? That's on us. That's our sound editor on then one more here from the For a ways there's a happy belated birthday to Polly Mac Pauline Max out today point back out today and Monday. He's get a little little vacation here in California. I think a little social distance vacation anyway, Murph. We've made the connection for the face off. It's Me And you today, man. What's going on? You and me, kid. You ready to do it? I'm ready, Dude. Policies up. What's called the Emerald Triangle. Do you know about this Emerald triangle? Now I the one Emerald note I have is the Wizard of Oz. Right? That's the Emerald City. Yeah. Eugene in the Emerald City is Yeah. That is correct. But I do believe Oz doubles as the Emerald City I do believe doesn't know I'm not a I'm not a non PhD doesn't rate as much An honest that's very true, dude. Very true. Would a would you move to Seattle? Could you handle the rain coast? Could you handle it? You know, dude, Rain is one of my least favorite like The cold is okay. I could get away with the cold. The rain. I hate all interesting. Actually, I actually I have a deep affinity for Ray and you want one of my biggest pet peeve ever is tied to a little league has time to rein dude, because when you're a kid, you get to baseball practices a week. You get like a Tuesday and Thursday for an hour and 1/2 and like As as a 10 year old. That's all you wait for that you get school all day. Then he had a baseball practice. You get your games. Did you get like Sometimes you get one on a Wednesday night and then one on a on a Saturday morning, but for having the clipboard right now, But this fired up if it rains like you do as a kid, If you see it's like rain on a Friday night, and you got a baseball game Saturday, there's no question that since I have done deep neck deep into the world, a little league and by the way was one year ago this week that we were having that run..

"I'm starting to get the fields for I'm starting to get the A smurfing back with him started Get the pangs start to feel the The encroaching baseball season. It could be fun man. It could be some fun. It could be weird could be a scope into what the Giants are doing in the future. By the way, an update little bit they signed. What's that kid's name? Kyle Harrison. The left handed pitcher out of the daily He finally reached an agreement yesterday. He was the number 85 overall pick in the draft about a month ago. Right early June is that when that happened, left handed pitcher was committed to you and was heavily committed. I think they thought that if he was not drafted his eyes he was he probably was not going to go play professional baseball. This is what some of these teams deal with is You got a kid who's committed? You want to draft him? But if you draft into high, you wasted draft pick on a guy. I'm telling this story like third. Third person through the grapevine third degrees of three degrees away four degrees away. Tyson Ross played played high school baseball out here in Oakland at Bishop O'Dowd, his brother, Joe Ross, do Gerard Washington National. He's opted out of the season. I don't think Tyson Ross had been picked up since the Giants let him go. Bottom line. Tyson was when I was a sophomore in high school. He was a senior. He wa I want to see he came in second for M V P of the jail. The Hayward area athletically thatyou're because Jason Castro, I think when the VP. Now Castro went down Stanford They went super Regional. He was a monster. And then and then, actually, Jason Castro made it all the way to the big leagues and made the final out of Matt Cain's perfect game. He sees every day on a decent career that I think is a Minnesota twin. Now was an Astro for awhile. He's bounced around, but he was he was a good player, Castro Valley High But bottom line is is both of these guys. That sort of applies to I want to say that Tyson Ross had already committed to cow by the time scouts. We're talking about the major league draft, and I think both of his parents are our teachers or take education very seriously, And I kind of told him like he's going to school. He's not gonna go play baseball till after he's done with school again. I'm hearing this. I'm sure there are people out there who know the Rosses and I'm Telling you this story like four degrees away from people who I know who know him who know people who know people who know people but Jason Castro. Same thing. He might have been taken much higher out of high school. I want to see the red sides drafted him, unlike the 25th round or 30th rounds. I'm like that, but he's already committed to Stanford. They knew he was going to go play ball there and he comes out in his a first round. Draft picks. So Kyle Harrison, the giant selected him Number 85 overall left handed pitcher. He got 2.5 $1,000,000 signing bonus, which is like I said, above the above the pace lot for number 85. Get this and make with what you want of high school baseball stats, but it's kind of fun. When you see a guy who's I feel like that right guys in the big leagues are probably the best from wherever they came. Whatever you know, wherever whatever, Cracker Avenue are street of the country there from every kid played in a league with a guy who is the most dominant guy in the league, and I feel like that's what the big leaguers are there. The collection of those guys Cal Harrison in high school get this. He went 21 1 with a 1.19 tiara at day LaSalle. He also last year as a junior went 10. I know The 1.26 tiara Hey, didn't allow a run last summer pitching for the U. Eighteen's team USA World Cup team. He struck out 12 in 10 innings. So hard throwing left handed pitcher Okay, I'm in. I'm all for it. All right, let's get to some stuff from from yesterday and it actually just real quick, actually on the Kyle Harrison note. He's an interesting case because we've seen Patrick Bailey show up now to camp right. The Giants put Pat Bailey, who is their their top hitting choice or her top offensive selection in the draft in the player pool, just Because I think they want to make sure he's getting work. I wonder what they're thinking about the pictures. If they think a time off for the pictures is okay or time away, is OK that we could just give them a program and maybe save the number of innings of the stress on their arm. For the time being, could be Shawn Jelly. Also another guy, young guy who's not in the pool, so it seems like maybe this is by design. Not that I would expect a young guy like like Kyle Harrison to just 18 years old pop up it at Oracle parking the Giants player pool, but they now have three of their top pitching prospects. I believe you are not At camp, so the hitting prospects are because they want to get work pitching prospects. Maybe it's it's taking a little light on the arms but something to pay attention to, as we parse through the season anyway, so sound from Gabe Kapler yesterday. This is what we were just talking about his focus on the pitching staff relative to the hitters. Now he's saying he thinks the hitters they're just going to struggle in General Kate No. I don't know if he's just Sadie. It's a timing thing. I don't think he's slamming his guys. I think he just knows, Hey, that hitting is going to be an issue. It's going to be a timing thing. And the other thing to consider here is with these hitters. You will very seldom if at all, I think she a picture twice or three times in a ball game. Right, especially early in the season, Like what's the over under on Johnny Cueto Innings pitched on on Thursday of next week. 3.5. If he gets through three. I'd say that that's a hell of a relevant outing on maybe he's maybe he's more ramped up to that. Maybe he's good for 75 pitches and go four innings or five innings. And, of course it's It's how economically are, too. But Clayton Kershaw, I'll be a good litmus test for that. He's a true ace. Right? See what Ace Khun do on these. These either sort, pitch counts or or differently, manage ballgame so Ah, Here's Gabe Kapler yesterday talking about how he's more focused on the pitching staff than the hitters, and he tells you why. In all openness. I am much more focused right now on on the pictures. I tend to think that hitters are behind pictures and so I expect some struggles at the plate. In spring training and even this short and modified camp. It just takes a little while for others to catch up pictures, and I am uber focused on things like discounts.

"US returning catcher whose you know plus catch and throw guy but also has really strong contact in the zone in in some developing power that we're really excited about from both sides of the plate and anytime you can add a switch hitter with with that those types of contacts guild out into power you should probably do it if that's what alternately comment that the papillae what was that gotta be a first round pick this year Scott I'm gonna jump a few pics to the you're the fifth pick that you guys made because he's a local guy in the call Harrison from DeLaSalle and and a lot of people know that he was he was committed to UCLA far hot made some comments yesterday that that you guys are very optimistic in terms of signing him so so what went into the call Harrison pick and and what do you think happens next with him yeah we were ecstatic that Kyle Harrison still on the board at that pick he's left handed starter who we've been targeting for awhile our scouts loved watching Kyle compete and we have strong conviction in his fastball command ended this action we can get a chance to be a meaningful part of our rotation for many years to come additionally we we talk to many young high school hitters some of the most talented ones in the country and many of them said that comparison was I started they had faced all year which is high praise when there's that level of consensus among hitters and again he was the guy that our scouts talked about incessantly leading up to the the drop and we just didn't know if you're gonna be in a position that I dropped him and and we're thrilled we got the opportunity to do so especially knowing that he's a local kid Scott I the the only way over a regular sports fan can sort of attach themselves to a draft is maybe if they do a fantasy draft and and I've never had a friend leave a fantasy draft and think that their team stock like everybody always loves everything that they do in the draft the day after it of course you know that life takes over it goes a certain way but just in in all of your history in the game have you ever walked out of the draft and just had some questions or discomfort about the way things have gone oh absolutely yeah I feel like.

"Safety with Kyle Harrison who is the general manager for Top Gun ranger in Houston Texas as we went to break tile you got cut off on the topic of gun safety is not a question but it's a it's a mandatory situation want to finish up what you're saying absolutely so firearms can be dangerous if somebody doesn't know what they're doing in handling so we take farm safety very very seriously here unlike other regions though we make it a point of education and teaching right or knock a commonality we're gonna help walk you through what you today correct she can learn and that's where everybody can be safe with firearms well let's talk about that for a second what what is the age limit for someone to come in there and use your range so the youngest we will allow is ten and it'll be with a guardian somebody wants to come by themselves are there to be at least twenty one okay and the first time I came in there I had to fill out a documents sometime we did online only know what it was but something had to explain what that document was in now that I feel that once I didn't have to do it again you give me a little tag or whatever but what I'm sorry you didn't give me tag you just had your computer what what was that and what is that restricting restricting felons from getting in there what is so right I can't do background checks heard the FBI on just random people somebody has to be buying a firearm so we do is we have a liability waivers so part of it it sure is that you read every renewal before you go out there and it does if you don't follow the rules you get hurt right that's your own fault the other part is to make sure that if you're Fallin if you've done anything that would prohibit you from owning a firearm that you're not using our facilities as well okay basically you have to get your liability protection for you guys and so on so forth the problem moving on from there talk about how a person would come in and use your range because I know you have a couple different options that they can use of the you know just one day a rented for a an hour or whatever or memberships and so forth give some idea how people would be able to utilize your program yeah not a problem most people we are a public range which means we're open to everybody there are private facilities with her membership only we don't like that model part of our goal in the twenty five years we've been open as we want to educate and teach people you can't do that if you have a private facility I just makes too hard to resell somebody wants to come and shoot a camper I'm gonna be able to only fifteen dollars it guarantees you an hour for not busy you can shoot as long as you like so now if you want to take advantage of some of our videos like our largest final selection of the state of Texas we have over a hundred hand guns to choose from you can read those we have a large selection of machine guns and then all of our classes we offer I'm sorry man I'm laughing you take it so casually okay we've got a hundred and guys I get that right you you've got all kinds of rifles and you've got all types of shot guns and you've you've got it all the typical type assault looking rifles I've shown the most Amer semi automatic but when you told me you had automatic that people without automatic license could shoot I was like wow that's interesting that be fun to try but then when I looked over your counter in fact when there was a I heard it you've got something that looks like to me and I'm not no guns but it looks like a bar like a Browning automatic fifty caliber machine gun back behind the counter what is that monster so that's you're very very close so this is the Browning nineteen nineteen so the mod deuce is the one you're talking about the Browning M. two that's the one that should fifty cal rounds this is the predecessor to it this one shoots thirty caliber bullets so like thirty Oct six seven sixty four fifty three okay is it you know I could just money Arnold Schwarzenegger picking it up off the ground the caring that right existed my savvy you need to be Arnold the carry on like that thing around I think we have like fifty sixty pounds of heavy this amazing but it is a market that's that's an amount and you just get behind it and dump some rounds down range of fun right it's a good way to relieve stress and specially right now everybody's pretty tense so the way for us to keep the staff loosen some of the customers no doubt so let's talk about for a second here gun safety equipment what did for me to show up there I mean you can rent everything right I'm sure you can read everything you need but what is typical I should come in with us should be prepared what should I dress like or pretty casual as far as dress code goes if you want to wear flip flops more power to you might burn your toast with tomato Pratt I highly recommend usually loose fitting clothing with very minimal exposed skin right long sleeve shirts pants those are typically passed with closed toed shoes you know catching brass top brass down your shirt is not fun so from ladies who don't cover up the cleavage that kind of stuff but honestly if you wanna come in skimpy clothes and flip flops more power to you it's just not gonna feel great when you get hit how far is on the right equipment goes like I. in ear protection I have my own retirement pretty avid shooter obviously I work here and and quite a bit of our customers have their own but if you don't have enough time to kill I've never been to any facility not just ours but doesn't have some L. E. is because it just it doesn't make sense that god yeah the price range on those things are ridiculously cheap I mean if you're sure the lowest level stuff you can get it for almost nothing if you're gonna make a hobby out of this and if you know if you make a hobby out you probably want to step up you know just a little bit get it moderately priced stuff if there's places around town I I think I was talking to you about it or I got some money I custom molded to your ear protection I got from an audiologist even those in my opinion a relatively cheaper the pair of entry for the hobby right like buying a gun so yeah that's that was my wife was asking about that good good good memory bad which speaking of wives have to go back to when I was married to for my daughter's wife this is like my previous marriage and the family owned a gun range it's no longer there was called A. NG gun region because of Sardinia Jim's gun range but it's gone now one of them died unfortunately there are they when you go in there they had all kinds of stuff that was interesting to me that they Chad competitive shooters and cops with most of their that was their clientele right do you guys have that you have competitive shooters and cops come to your place for sure for sure so you know we're centrally located so we get everybody from the whole city right being in the Galleria part of town we do host so how we have done in the last couple months because it's been a little nuts but we do host competition where you run and shoot move and shoot and we have also different ones where you have like dueling trees that you have to keep your phone it quickly and doesn't deserve it but I didn't see any trees in there do you have trees in there somewhere I do expect it no way we don't leave it out all the time because if people aren't paying attention those two rifle at some of those steel targets and also damage the targets that they're they're expensive so I don't wanna leave amount once were so do I have to be a member because I am going to join up as a member by the way but just curious do you have to be a member to get all that back door stuff you have another old roommates who might none of the Rangers just the equipment I have it locked up I could just bring it out and put it on the you know you just need to let us know and then if the rental cost of it because I have to close the day down for a couple minutes but yeah just let us know we'll put it out there for you cool I'm gonna try that because it doubles wanted to sign shoot those things I would ask you to other questions he just bought a bunch of shot guns and rifles what is the limit do you have allow those and if so how and what limitations sure bring your second bring rifles a shot guns we only allow buckshot and slugs though your home defense stuff or not or not the facility you want to take it to the practice burgeoning right you want to take that to an outdoor facility we can move around so seconds for us you're gonna be home defense themselves bring a person family and for rifles you can up to three weeks.

Browning M. two that's the one that should fifty cal rounds this is the predecessor to it this one shoots thirty caliber bullet so like thirty ought six seven sixty fifty one three okay is it you know I could just money Arnold Schwarzenegger picking it up off the ground the caring it right it might have a you need to be on all the carry on like nothing around I think we have like fifty sixty pounds of heavy that's amazing but it is a monetary thought that that amount and you just get behind it and dump some rounds down range of fun right it's a good way to relieve some stress and especially right now everybody's pretty tense so the way for us to keep the staff loosen some of the customers no doubt so let's talk about for a second here gun safety equipment what did for me to show up there I mean you can rent everything right I'm sure you can find everything you need but what is typical I should come in with I should be prepared what should I dress like for pretty casual as far as dress code goes if you want to wear flip flops more power to you might burn your toes with the minecraft I highly recommend usually loose fitting clothing with very minimal exposed skin right long sleeve shirts pants those are typically passed with closed toed shoes you know catching brass top brass down your shirt is not fun so from ladies who don't cover up the cleavage that kind of stuff but honestly if you want to come in in skimpy clothes and flip flops more power to you it's just not gonna feel great when you get hit so far is on the right I think goes like that I use in ear protection I have my own retirement pretty avid shooter obviously at work here and then quite a bit of our customers have their own but if you don't have enough time to kill I've never been to any facility not just ours that doesn't have some they'll let you use it just it doesn't make sense does not the price range on those things are ridiculously cheap I mean if you prefer the lowest level stuff you can get it for almost nothing if you're gonna make a hobby out of this and if you know if you make a hobby out you probably want to step up you know just a little bit and get a moderate price stuff if there's places around town I I think I was talking to you about it or I got some money and custom molded to your ear protection I got from an audiologist even those in my opinion a relatively cheap for that area of entry for the hobby right like buying a gun so yeah that's that was my wife was asking about that good good good memory may have which speaking of wives have to go back to when I was married to my daughter's wife this is like my previous marriage and the family owned a gun range it's no longer there was called a NJ gun Rajan causes are leaning Jim's gun range but it's gone now one of them died unfortunately there are they are when you go in there they had all kinds of stuff that was interesting to me that they add competitive shooters and cops with most of their that was their clientele right do you guys have that you have competitive shooters and cops come to your place for sure for sure so you know we're centrally located so we get everybody from the whole city right being in the Galleria part of town we do host so how we have done in the last couple months because it's been a little nuts but we do host competition where you run and shoot move and shoot and we have also different ones where you have like dueling trees that have to out shoot your phone it quickly and does if if I didn't see any trees in there do you have trees in there somewhere thank you it's that had no way we don't leave it out all the time because if people aren't paying attention those who rifle at some of those still targets and also damage the targets yeah they're they're expensive so I don't wanna leave amount less work so do I have to be a member because I am gonna join up as a member but would be just curious do you have to be a member to get all that back door stuff you have another old roommates who might not another Rangers just think women I haven't locked up I could just bring it out put it on the which you know you just need to let us know and then if the rental cost of it because I have to close the day down for a couple minutes but yeah just let us know we'll put it out there for cool I'm gonna try that because it I've always wanted to spot shoot those things I would ask you to other question for you just brought up myself shot guns and rifles one of the women do you have allow those and if so how and what limitations sure bring your second bring rifles a shot guns we only allow buckshot and slugs so your home defense stuff or not or not the facility you want to take the practice burgeoning right you want to take that to an outdoor facility we could move around so seconds for us are gonna be home defense themselves bring accomplishment them all and for rifles you can up to three weeks I think you just can't use armor piercing rounds or anti five medical thank you for asking sold me this is just for me this in the radio shows that this is for me on my five five six I've bought some five five six eight green tip and some that don't because I think I was told not to use the the green tip it has our range what's the difference a green tip is armor piercing so if if you missed any of your shots then I've still baffles the fed up right in case you don't have the rubber balls those green tips wall damage my still baffles Dr and so the regular bullets are glad with copper copper and they don't just affect you so that's armor piercings I mean what would actually go through the side of a car automobile twenty two rounds probably go right to the side of a car so definitely all right we'll come the end of the segment I've got a few more questions to ask if you can hang out for we've got only one more seven minutes segments so we can hang out we'll be right back with Kyle Harrison and meadow once the radio show Jerry Chun heard weekday mornings nine to noon on talk radio six.
